Heya! I wanted to ask about your fic, "Moths Fly In Packs", that I wanted to know for a while. Forgive me if it was answered or not:

What was your main inspiration for the actual story? Was it just a Rise AU? Did you automatically create Salena for this story? I wanna know the origins of story and what got you writing the first chapter!

Aight so this is actually one of my favorite things to talk about cuz my ass cannot shut up about this fic but it was quite a few things that got mushed together to create the fic

First off, it was originally gonna be a comic! I just got heavily back into Rise after watching the movie in January 2023 and yk the show was cancelled for a while now. I really missed the show and already read through like every headcanon, x reader, and whatever the fuck I could find at the time so to satiate myself, I decided to make a story of my own! That was kinda already the drill for me anyway; if there's a piece of media I adore that never got the love it deserved, I continue the story myself

It was gonna be a comic focused with the boys as the main characters just like the show and would be seen as a continuation. I wasn't planning on releasing it any time soon since ya know... comic but Salena was indeed still gonna be in the story. She was just gonna be a more minor character? Not background, more like on the same level as April or Splintz; pops up often but not always

And then I realized that was a stupid fucking idea cuz no way in hell I would ever survive the torture of making comics :D I don't even enjoy making em for the most part so yk-

I had a different idea on the side. I was thinking it'd be interesting to have a separate fic version of the story but told from Salena's perspective so the audience would understand her more. But then as I kept developing the story, I realized this was the more interesting version anyway! I had a shit ton of ideas and a lot of topics I could critique and commentate on. It was genuinely fucking interesting the more I looked at it, even tho I was hella nervous no one would care for my random ass OC enough to accept them as the main character over the boys-

On a more personal note, I was going through a lot of shit prior to rejoining Rise which made my senior year of high school get a very depressing start. But in a way, watching the movie and the show saved me. Not even exaggerating, this show's done a lot for me than I'll ever be able to express. When I thought about making the fic and settled on it being the story I tell, I wanted to express all my feelings and hardships I've been through. I wanted to explore them through Salena and externalize a lot of the messages I learned and Rise felt like the perfect outlet for that; the characters just genuinely fit

That's the real reason why I had the first chapter out in like a month or two. I wasn't even sure whether to post it, it was entirely an impulse move. But I don't regret it one bit

I really do hope this story find the people I want it to. People who felt just as alone as I did, I want them to know they aren't. There are people out there who understand, who've been through the same, and who've survived and gone onto thriving. I wanted Salena to feel relatable to them since she's quite literally the first character I've made who's truly based off of myself

On the flip side, I also hope it'll reach people who have no idea what I'm talking about and haven't ever experienced what Salena has. I want this story to be an opportunity for them to step into someone else's shoes and learn how to empathize. That was why I loved books as a kid; they helped me learn to empathize. So maybe, my story can do the same. Help people to empathize with folks like Salena who are struggle and have no idea how to say so

Sorry for the long ass ramble. I genuinely do believe the origins of this fic is extremely interesting so I really love talking about it ;w;

honestly this isn’t as much to do with her as a character as it is to do with the people who’ve played her but she has done so much for my self esteem in a really roundabout way. as someone with dark brown eyes and frizzy kinda untamable brown hair reading fic about her helped me appreciate more things about myself.

if you struggle with self image i really cannot recommend highly enough finding a character who looks and acts like you and reading stories where someone is absolutely, irrevocably in love with them. whether that’s platonically or romantically. i know it’s weird but being able to look in the mirror or at some aspect of my personality that i don’t like and say “that’s still lovable” is WONDERFUL.

Random Cars thoughts I think about all the time pt.1

It’s currently fairly late (early?) and I can’t sleep so imma talk about things in the cars universe that I think about near constantly. Ok 1 2 3 GO

Mater private eye

Dude I think about this short all the fucking time man, but do you know what the best part about it is imo?

This character design RIGHT here. DUDEEEEE ok this might just be my sheer adoration of classic/vintage cars but this bitch showed up and I went feral a bit. First of I cannot believe they created such a bomb ass character for this five minute short and he’s just never seen again but dude it fits the 1920’s theme so perfectly, the way they’ve exaggerated the front fenders to resemble the turned up collar of a trench coat, the way his roof resembles a flat cap like it’s literally so COOL MAN. I actually can’t stress enough how excited my pathetic little monkey brain got when I saw this design for the first time. The fact (In my opinion) that they were trying to mirror the car seen in peaky blinders (1927 Bentley 6.5 litre) is also extremely cool as you can see the whole gangster element really come through in the character before he’s even properly introduced RAHHHH. I’m so incredibly biased about this because this design alone hits like three of my hyper fixations at once but RAHAHRBHAHAHSBS HES SO FUCKING COOL I NEED TO OWN HIS DIE CAST AHHH

The Thomasville racers

I would just like to state my love for the thomasville racers. YES I know they play a moderate role in the third film and get plenty of screen time I guess but in my humble opinion THEY DESERVE MORE. Do you have ANY idea how hard a prequel movie/series would go (I KNOW ITS EXTREMELY UNLIKELY AND KINDA IMPOSSIBLE) I would give a kidney to see these characters in their prime, just from the flash backs of their races I just know it would be so much fun to watch. Seeing them interact with Doc would be an absolute highlight, being able to gauge their own personal relationships with him, Louise’s feelings towards him (fucking pop off babe love her) it would all be so interesting to see and I would start backflipping irl if Pixar EVER announced they were going to expand on them as characters. Also river is the best I didn’t talk abt him here because I don’t have any immediate thoughts but be’s silly and I enjoy him.

Car biology

Now there is one thing that comes to mind in this fucking fandom when you talk about car biology, and that is the obvious how the fuck do they reproduce. DOESN’T MATTER I HAVE A BIGGER QUESTION. Are their eyes wet. Hear me out here ok, cars cry, we see it happen and there’s implications at multiple different points throughout the franchise that they have tears. Does this mean their eyes are wet??? Or are they crying wiper fluid or something? I feel like that would make sense but the line between what are bodily fluids and what are yummy delicious beverages is so painfully blurred that It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re chugging wiper fluid too. The eyes are wet argument is overall kinda silly because we see lifeless car wrecks in some of the shorts and the windshield is still intact! So this presents something worse than eyes are wet, it implies that the car itself is like an exoskeleton and all the meaty important parts are on the inside! Yay! I only say this because we know they have brains obviously and it’s mentioned in some official book that I can’t remember the name of right now but it’s CANON they have brains. So are the brains MEAT? Because if the brains are meat then the eyes are probably squishy too!! But if they have windshields and we think about the exoskeleton thing are their eyes just freakish gelatinous cubes smushed behind the windshield? BUT IF THATS THE CASE WHY DO THEY NEED EYELIDS? I’m aware that this is all highly stupid and trivial but Pixar made too many decisions with absolutely no was to explain them in a child-friendly way and ultimately backed themselves into a corner about stuff like this and now there’s sleep deprived neurodivergents on tumblr dot com trying to pick up the pieces.

Anyway that’s it for this one I might post more of these in the future because it’s fun to just rant about ridiculous shit for no reason lmao

I know, Twitter situation kinda sucks, but it clearly has its benefits, if you know what I mean ;))) I always love reading your fob lyrics analysis, for one, it makes me listen to the great old songs time and time again. And speaking of which, it seems, a lot of Pete’s songs are like a classic “angst with a happy ending” type of fic, with a lot of recognisable tropes in it. And it’s amazing. What do you think, if he was an active fandom member (any fandom you can imagine), what kind of author would he be? What kind of stories would he write? Would he engage with his readers? I think Pete Wentz has an intensely fannish personality. He speaks fan-language with a fluency that would be hard to fake, I think, and he's done it all along. He had an *LJ,* after all. And when he talks about pop culture, he just approaches it from the angle of a fan. His radio show was instructive on that point, because he was playing off of a guy who was very clearly not fannish at all, and he would say things like, "I always wanted Rihanna to end up with Drake," or "I read this book and it was like I couldn't think of anything but this book for days," and the other guy was like, "...okay," and I was just like, Pete, darling, you need to get a fanboy around you. I just think he's definitely a fan at heart, and not just in the sense of being a curatorial fan of things, but in an active, creative, shipper-y way, like wanting Rihanna with Drake. There's this podcast he did once that I can't find right now where he analyzed a Hallmark Christmas movie and there’s this part where he’s like, “What’s the deal with the guy’s manager, like, I thought he was in love with the guy,” and I was just like, “Yeah, Pete, because you think in Fanfiction.” He often thinks in character and not in plot, and that's the hallmark of a fanfic writer, really.

Anyway, I have long had a story half-drafted where Pete accidentally becomes a BNF in his own fandom and is writing this epic star-crossed sci-fi AU about him and Patrick that he's trying desperately to hide from Patrick and also from all of his avid readers who for obvious reasons CANNOT KNOW that the story is being written by Pete Wentz hahahaha. Someday I will finish this story, because I adore the premise so much.

I think he would be a furiously productive author, because I think he just writes all the time. I think he wouldn't be much into editing (based on his comments about why he's never written another book). I think his stories would be more like LJ stories than AO3 stories, by which I mean LJ stories had a different feel to them, would sometimes end ambiguously, or have these intense inexplicable metaphors. Which is not to say AO3 stories never do that! And I love AO3 stories!! But Idk, when I think of the way Pete would write a story, it would be in that old-fashioned LJ way, and I think people who read on both platforms probably know what I mean? I think his stories would be full of soulmates and also massive amounts of confusion about being soulmates lololol

And I think he would ABSOLUTELY engage with his readers. He loooooves engagement, really. You will never convince me he's not lurking on every single social media site in some way, shape, or form, spying on the fandom. Probably less now than he did when he was younger, but I remain convinced there's still a secret Pete Wentz Tumblr out there. Pete Wentz was into the engagement before a lot of celebrities realized it could even be a thing. I think he'd answer every comment really thoughtfully.

Creeping into your inbox with the great joy that we have such similar taste in horror! I was wondering what your favourite horror movies/shows/books are? I'm always on the lookout for more stuff :D

Oh! Well. *◡*

Some off the top of my head (shoving this under a cut for the long, rambling opinions in which I hope you find something useful). 

Movies: My current, contemporary favourite is definitely The Witch. It’s peak everything - period-piece, atmosphere, folklore/religious horror - everything I love. Absolute masterwork of minimalist horror.

As for what’s stuck with me, The Mist - took it like a fist to the face and still think about it all the time. There’ve been some other decent religious/folky horror stuff I’ve like over the past few years - Let the Right One In (book and movie both) The Omen (excellent buildup) and more recently Antlers (doubles as a monster movie), because I am obsessed with Wendigo lore. I know they’re kinda spoopy now but when I was a tween I was also a big sucker for The Village and Signs, ha. Again, mostly for the atmospheric buildup of dread, and The Village for its evocation of folksy, Puritanical horror. 

I’m a sucker for some monster movies as well, even semi-trashy ones like Cloverfield. I love the big monster-reveal moment. Prometheus, for the same reason. More interestingly, The Host (which is Korean) but adjacent to that are some of the classic Japanese horrors like Ring and the Grudge, especially The Grudge - both versions - which changed me forever. 

Series: Midnight Mass (just a Bloodborne modern AU honestly) has some interesting ideas on life after death, and Hamish Linklater’s performance is to die for. I’ve watched it twice and loved it both times. Archive 81 for the spooky ancient-god/slow burn dread. Huge fan of The Terror series which I think you know (I love Jared Harris, the best modern-day Cassandra if you take Chernobyl into account, and nice to see Tobias Menzies playing someone way less pathetic than Edmure in Game of Thrones lol). The book is a little more dry but still good, and I just started the series’ second season (Infamy) and love it already.

 Also worth mentioning a French series called Zone blanche (translated as Black Spot of Netflix), a little under the radar, which was great. Very much the subtle “the forest is a dark place beyond human understanding” vibe. I’m actively still going through Del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities but enjoying the variety of episodes so far: "The Outsider" (which frankly I just read as a queer/lesbian awakening story) and "Pickman’s Model" in particular (cannot avoid Lovecraft lmao, I’m so sorry). 

I don’t know if I can add the absolute incontrovertible masterwork that is Dark here, though it has some very, very itty bitty inconsequential minor horror elements. But I will watch it again and again until I die. 

In addition, some looser, genre-defying or multi-genre “horror” works like Get Out, Attack the Block, and the Southern Reach Trilogy (book only, the movie just couldn’t capture the peak high concept eldritch horror).  I would add the recent film The Wonder to that which has very subtle religious horror elements but is not supernatural whatsoever. I adored it. 

For books, any goddamn thing by Joyce Carol Oates but especially "Poe Posthumous; or, the Light-House" as I’ve made abundantly clear already; also I’m currently going through this excellent treasure trove of short horror stories collected in this post here (there is a second list somewhere too, if I recall, and they are even sorted by sub-category!) 

At the top of my must-watch list is Lamb right now, and eventually The Ritual and Midsommar, as well as The Lighthouse for obvious reasons. Any other recs are always welcome! I took two classes in CEGEP on Gothic lit and horror films and learned, fundamentally, that the horror genre is an incredibly useful and dynamic way to chart humanity’s anxieties over the past two centuries or so. (Dr Kris Woofter if you are still out there, you absolute hero, those were the greatest classes of my then-short academic life and I carry them with me always; or tucked neatly under my floorboards, where they writhe and groan ominously.)

End of the Year Game Tag

Part 1: Fandom Faves

01. Favorite new fandoms of the year

OOOOOO I think I joined a heap of new fandoms this year. Top favourites would have to be Heartstopper, Moon Knight, Daredevil, SuperBat (DC), and The Umbrella Academy.

02. Favorite new ships since this year

Obviously Nick/Charlie, Superbat, and probably Steddie (even tho I'm not up to their season in Stranger things yet lmao).

03. Favorite anime/TV show of the year

I think Moon Knight has to take the cake my dudes. I haven't been that hooked on a show in ages.

I'm not really an anime watcher, so I don't really have an answer for this. But my gf has been trying to get me into Fairy Tail so I'll pick that one I guess ^^

And of course, my all time favourite show is Doctor Who

04. Favorite movie of the year

Turning red was amazing, made my best friend cry.

I do have to give MoonFall an honourable mention, that movie was batshit crazy and I loved it.

And even though it technically came out in 2021, I watched it in January this year so SPIDERMAN NO WAY HOME is gonna be my favourite movie for the year.

In terms of my favourite movie of all time, I love Legends of Ravaging Dynasties and How to Train your Dragon.

05. Favorite character of the year

Oh god this is hard...

I'd have to give it to either Steven from Moon Knight or Elijah from The Originals!

And of course Andrew Garfield as Spider-Man has to be up there hehe.

But my favourite character of all time is Captain Jack Harkness from Doctor who. That man is EVERYTHING

06. Favorite soundtrack of the year

Ooooo interesting...

In terms of newer sound tracks, I'll give it to Tick Tick Boom (another one that came out last year but I only watched it this year).

For older soundtracks, nothing will ever top HTTYD.

07. Favorite book/manga/comic of the year

I started The Promised Neverland this year and it was pretty cool!

Overall, Stuff That Scares Your Pants Off is such a good book and I don't know why I love it so much.

08. Favorite game of the year

I'll give it to The Quarry, Cult of the Lamb, and Stray.

Overall, I'm a sucker for Minecraft, Skyrim, and The Sims.

09. Highlight of this year to remember

Probably moving out! That was a huge achievement, and to do it with my girlfriend was awesome.

10. Favorite Tumblr moments of 2022

Like many others, TickleTober was my favourite moment this year for the community! And not just seeing everyone creating throughout the month, but seeing the support and encouragement and hype for each other was lovely!

11. Favorite fan art of the year

I'm such a sucker for anything that @sleepysheepytea draws cause it's just absolutely adorable (even though we don't share any fandoms I still cannot get enough of them).

I also only recently discovered @vqler 's art and HOLY SHIT ???? very VERY talented people on this app...

@ticklishfanart has some adorable pieces !!! Mostly for MHA which I haven't seen but like COME ON LOOK AT THIS, AND THIS!!! HOW COULD YOU NOT LOVE IT?

Finally, @ssnicker-doodless has some super cute sketches that I've seen around the place.

Again, not a lot of fandom crossover with people (perhaps down the track I'll commission 👀). I need to find artists who share fandoms with meeeee !!! (though as I'm typing this I swear to god there's some moonknight fanart I've seen and I can't find it SJDHALKSHAS help). If there's any artists out there who have similar likes to me PLEASE send me ur username (or a username of an artist you like) in the ask box !!!

But I mean the fanart someone drew of When Bats Hum kinda has to be my favourite right??? It was so cute, so well done, and meant absolutely everything to me.

OOOOOO Ok I have a few for this one. 2022 was a pretty big year for me in a number of different areas. - I hit 1,000 followers (holy shit) - I posted 45 new fics (which is insane I'm so pleased) - I completed the entire TickleTober Challenge coming up with my own original prompts (crazy) - And I'm slowly reaching out and talking to people in the community and I'm so keen to make some more friends !!

15. My own best fic/post of the year

In terms of the fic that did 'the best' I'm going to guess it's one of the heartstopper ones? Mayyyyybe a Moon Knight one?

OK DAMN heartstopper wasn't even in the top 3 ??

My top 3 fics overall are 3rd - Cold Hands, Warm Heart (Sanders Sides) [75 Notes] 2nd - Out of Control (Moon Knight) [86 Notes] 1st - Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better (MoonKnight) [105 Notes]

The one that I'm the most proud of this year is definitely Giggles in the Dark (Heartstopper). I loved imagining it, writing it, reading it, just everything! It holds a very special place in my heart! (and it did pretty well too so maybe people could feel how much I liked it lmao)

I mean I don't reeeeally have any fics I think are 'underappreciated'? But I guess I'll put either Magic or Claws (both TickleTober fics lol, 25 and 26) on there? Magic is a pretty fun one that I had been thinking about for a while, and Claws I thought was pretty clever.

Hinata Hyuuga

I started Naruto when I was 10-11 years old and that was the period of time when I began to lack of confidence and I began to be pretty introverted. And well, I was relating so much to Hinata so I immediately got attached to her. Also I grew up with her in a way, and seeing her becoming more confident and strong, while still being very empathic and sweet, she became like a model to follow in my eyes. It's really one of the character who had the most impact for me so yeah, Hinata will always be Best Girl to me <3

Natsume Takashi

Natsume Yuujinchou is my favourite anime, especially because of this sweetheart. I’m very moved by empathic character (you’re gonna notice it with the charac I’ll pick lol). Natsume has such a sensitive and sweet personality, I loved him instantly tbh. Also, the fact that he is careful to not get too close because he fears to bother them or to get hurt...well, I totally understand that feeling ;;  And seeing him being more open little by little, and warming up to people, it makes me feel happy, so yeah, it’s a character that makes me feel good and warm inside =v= 

Makoto Tachibana

I think everyone following my blog is aware of my love for him xD What can I say more. Makoto is THE friend everyone would like to have ; he is a sweetheart, he is adorable, he is caring toward his family and friends and he is the best to comfort people. Simply, he makes people happy, putting the others before himself sometimes (#protecttheboy), and really you cannot see this guy and not feel the need to smile back at him <33 this boy needs to be loved as much he loves people, so here, TAKE MY ALL MY LOVE MAKOGOD <3

Tifa Lockhart

My beautiful, strong, confident, sensitive and caring girl <3 I think Tifa is an amazing female character. I love her personality so much and even though she can kick ass, she is still a pretty calm and sweet. She is confident but humble, strong but adorable, sensitive but sassy when it needs. I really love all those sides of her <3 also she is one of the reason that made me realize that I wasn’t that much straight XDDD

Fai D Flowright

He is the first character that made me turn into protective mode (;v;) He is such a tragic character, and despite all the pain and horror he went through, he is still such a lovely man who just wants to take care of his loved ones. He suffered so much but he has still love to give...even though he doesn’t love himself ;o; I swear I just wanted to jump in the manga each time to hug him and comfort him. Yes he is funny, and cool and beautiful, but that’s definitely his fragile side that made me appreciate him even more. 

Clear

I started playing Dmmd for the gay boys...I ended it by getting a son to protect. Clear is a kinda a mix of everything I fall for : empathic, sweet, strong and a bit unconfident. But also he is SO INNOCENT, SO PURE!!! he has this childish innocence that makes me melt all the time ;v; so when the angst came, I just cried for him. I don’t know how much tears I cried because of him, his story touched my heart so much and he deserves only happiness ;; also, he sings (yes this is a very good reason to love him too xD). Anyway, I love this angel so much <3

Tomoyo Daidouji

She wasn’t immediately one of my favorite girl. I appreciated her kindness, the fact she was always so caring toward her friends but also her fun side, like being a kind of groupie of Sakura xD it’s when I finished to read all the manga when I was older that I realized that she was such an amazing character. Without spoiling, she is definitely the type to sacrifice her own needs as long as the people she loves are happy. She’ll be happy either way, without any resentment or regrets. And I think that’s something to admire. Also...she can sing xDD

Mihashi Ren

My maternal side activated at the sight of this baby boy. I was older when I began Oofuri, so I was less shy, still pretty unconfident but I was hiding my anxiety inside all the time. But Mihashi was expressing his anxiety through his expressions and his acts. And when I saw him I was like “yep, it’s my inside-self personalized there”, that no one can’t really see. So obviously, I’ve been right away attached to this character since I was relating to his social struggles and his lack of confidence. But the most important fact is that Mihashi is always doing his best, and he tries to be better all the time, fighting against his anxiety and trying to believe the words of people who praise him. He is so inspiring to me ; more than just seeing myself in him at that time, he became a character that gave me the desire to control better my anxiety as well ;v; 

Levi Ackerman

Ok Levi is a bit different of all my previous crush characters ;) I’m gonna admit, I first liked him because he was such a too cool charac xDD loved his design, his sort of grumpy personality, his badass side too etc...but through the chapter, we all discovered a protective and sensitive side of him <3 I also love so much his honesty ; he assumes his beliefs and won’t hesitate to shake a bit people for their own good. He is also very smart and combined to his agility skills, he is such an amazing fighter, and he never hesitated to put his own life in danger to protect others. But he has a violent and controversial side due to all the trauma he went through, so that makes him even more complex. And that’s why I think he’s the best charac of snk, and also one of the charac I love the most~

My reason to love her is kinda close to Levi’s. She appeared at first as cold and determined but she is much more complex. Through the manga, it becomes clear that she is a broken person with depression and PTSD who find a reason to keep living when she fell in love with Roy. She is ready to do anything for him to fulfill his dream even though she will have to give up to a part of her humanity (but also femininity). She is such a selfless character and basically she is following her heart. And for a character that appears strict, it’s such an adorable and touching side of her. And this sweet side appears from time to time, when she adopts her lil doggy or when her fragility breaks through the shell in some situations. I will end with obvious point too like, she gorgeous and strong, so yep, an amazing lady indeed ;)

three ships: I too must go for lemonberry ice and doctor/master. they both live rent-free in my brain at all times. but the third one……..kakashi/obito/rin. naruto always lives rent-free in my brain as well and those three for sure. let kakashi be happy goddammit

last song: all I want by kodaline! I’ve been looking for songs for a Specific Character I Cannot Reveal For Fic and that song does not fit on her playlist at all (very few songs do…….) but I was thinking about it so I went to listen to it.

last movie: oh my god, I rewatched camp rock last night. I’ve been digging through a lot on disney+ lately. it was, fine? always fun to see super young jonas brothers, at least. and I think the songs were pretty good. I remember really disliking the sequel so I will probably not rewatch that.

currently reading: rereading t*witches; literally JUST finished the fifth book, don’t think twice. I don’t necessarily recommend them but it’s nice to relive the childhood nostalgia. as I’ve mentioned the dialogue is almost DISTRESSINGLY so 2001 it’s alternately painful and hilarious, and it gets me every time. my favorite book when I was a kid was the ninth one, split decision, like my copy of it got really beat up bc I reread it so much, and I’m really excited to get to that one.

I’m also like a chapter and a half into the first lord of the rings book and really looking forward to reading more and I BOUGHT THEM but sometimes like, reading a physical book is not enough to fully distract my brain from the 28 Long Years Of Rampantly Unmanaged Anxiety I’ve been dealing with, but reading on my phone or my laptop has been usually fine??? but I’ve been reading t*witches on the internet archive and lotr is also there so when I finish barreling through t*witches, I can read lotr there if I want!!

I also usually have a ramona ebook on my phone right now for when I just need something Without Any Stakes At All, Whatsoever, and the one I have right now is ramona the brave. it was my FAVORITE when I was a kid and my first grade teacher read the books out loud bc it has the story where ramona shouts GUTS! when she wants to say a bad word. THAT was intense, to a six year old. as an adult I think my fav is ramona and her father, bc it’s very sweet.

currently watching: AS WE SPEAK I am binge-watching lizzie mcguire. well, binge-watching-in-the-background. (I’ve also been working my way through my childhood disney sitcoms.) BUT ALSO I keep up with abbott elementary and animal control and I’m hoping animal control gets better? it’s okay, it’s decently funny, but I’m still not sold on it yet. abbott elementary is gold, though. (not a current watch BUT spring baking championship starts on the food network next week!!! I love the themed baking championships. also kids baking just ended on monday and every single season I cry over all the sweet tiny kids doing their baking they are so damn adorable) oh my mom and I have stalled in our murder she wrote watch with a season and a half left bc the quality has kinda, dipped. I think the first seven seasons are the most entertaining.

currently consuming: water! I never drink enough of it. it is, a struggle. I am drinking more than I was, for sure, but it is, still not really like a GREAT amount. I am……...working very hard at it………...and it’s very frustrating.

currently craving: something I can really take a bite out of. a big cinnamon bun…...a hefty piece of cake…...not necessarily craving this but some day soon I am going to get delivery from red robin and get the MADLOVE BURGER. by god, that burger.

additionally, if it's gonna rain I think it should thunderstorm. we've had a lot of rain lately but like NO thunder and you can't really hear the rain at all and it would just be nice to have a good decent NON THREATENING thunderstorm. and for a while, too!!!! the last one we got was a hot ten minutes. I want some substance.

andromeda: doing this one for death and taxes! Nathaniel Ash is a rich man's son who is by day an engineer for the spaceship and by night a mysterious & suave theatre performer for the upper class. Winifred Storm is a politician's daughter who is, on the surface, perfect--and is, underneath the surface, about to absolutely snap.

aries: Sometimes, there is no deus ex machina. Sometimes, there is no last-minute change of heart. Sometimes there is just a boy with a gun, a girl with a bomb, and a single choice to be made. (from DAT.)

cassiopeia: hmmmm ever? I think my favourite scene (that i've written--i have ones in my head i'm super excited for) is, probably... this scene in GFW2 when the magic in the air makes everyone's thoughts audible. aaalllll their thoughts. it shows you what all these characters are feeling, what they're trying and failing to repress. (It's also the first hint that Tasya, a character who wasn't nearly as important in book 1, has some hidden sides to herself.)

draco: Corey :D

hydra: i'll do this for Secret Wip >:) . i love it because it's this epic-scale high-stakes fantasy, and i'm having much fun with the magic system. (Plus, i'm having a good time figuring out the characters.)

libra: it's hard to pick, but i think either Charlie & Eleanor (from rose librarians), Tasya & Rowan (from GFS), or Oliver & Corey. I can't really describe why, I just Like Them and their dynamics.

pyxis: in GFS, i just kinda want to show, like. even if you're struggling. even if everything has gone to shit. you can still find happiness. your world is ending, but the sunset is beautiful. you're alive. In Val Saintly, I want to show that... idk. you're allowed to feel things! it's not healthy to try and not feel things. And in Oddities, I want to show that there is always, always a place for you, whether you know it yet or not. Everyone belongs somewhere.

ursa major: the scene in gfw4 where Tasya gets to break down and cry in the rain and no one judges her. she deserves it.

canis major: it depends on the story, but usually character-driven, i think.

pavo: e v e r y t h i n g . tv, movies, books, family, friends, things people say, things people wear, things people do, songs, the weather, fuckin. everything. i cannot stop being inspired. i have more ideas than i can count and idk what to do with all of them lol

phoenix: it varies, but the general way i develop things is just... get some ideas from that Inspiration that's everywhere, then keep asking myself questions about it. what if, why does, why is, who does, who is, what is, where does, etc.

virgo: i'm a diehard fantasy fan so i LIKE the chosen one. especially the twists on it, such as reluctant chosen one, evil chosen one, and chosen one who chose themself. i also absolutely adore the wise old mentor trope.

So- my thoughts on the episode. Spoilers!!!

Dan's exit could've been interesting and it wasn't really, but it was a very normal human thing to do and Dan has been played straight as a very normal human guy, so makes sense.

I'm happy they recruited Ace and Tegan to UNIT rather than continuing Ace's charity story. They already seemed to do everything they could with it in Big Finish and the ACE book and it doesn't fit on-screen Ace well at all. She could've given the company over to someone else or be using it to fund UNIT when the government doesn't want to, but being in the field rather than behind a desk is... mmm. So much better. (I'll have to edit my longfic draft a bit, I was waiting for the episode to come out to add her section, but not too drastically)

I didn't expect them to confirm Tegan/Nyssa one way or the other. Farewell, Sarah Jane is nice, but the Doctor Who Lockdown stories that weren't for the book have been almost completely ignored thus far and I doubt that'll change. For instance, Big Finish gave present Ace a K-9, (in her weakest story imo) but it explicitly wasn't Sarah Jane's.

They also don't outright deny/confirm other expanded media either. "Three decades for me" could mean a number of things, including new meetings with the Doctor getting lost in Ace's short-term memory thanks to Brax and she just didn't age much until she was put back in her own time after Gallifrey.

There is a very particular itch for the Master for me that only Sacha Dhawan has scratched and Rasputin and taking the Doctor's body presumably for the extra (now possibly infinite) lives, something he's always wanted to do but never quite succeeded in doing- letting him actually do it, all felt very fresh.

The past faces manifesting in their mind during a time of terrible danger thing hasn't been done on TV I don't think, and it was done in the perfect surreal way.

The hologram 5 and 7 were adorable. Five comforting Tegan about Adric and Seven making up with Ace and acknowledging she's grown up and he's proud of her on-screen. (Chibnall you actually remembered that he's basically her dad when so many writers have forgotten that especially with the few modern-day Ace stories.)

I felt very teased with the possibility of a Thasmin kiss. They didn't have to, but that left something balled up in my chest. The ice creams were quite literally sweet though.

All of the bad guys are just fodder for the Master, that's kinda meh. His plan being trigger every volcano on Earth to cause a doomsday rather than just hyperbeaming it with his death star planet is a very Classic Master plan though.

Kate didn't do much and that makes me sad. Still no Osgood=homophobic. I don't make the rules. At least she's not dead, even though Chibnall could do so justifiably, since the (Jenna Redgrave) Kate is his character.

The plot is messy but there is a through line and it comes to a decent conclusion after that huge rollercoaster.

Companion support group is an official thing now I thought that would only ever exist in fanfic and comedy skits.

The end... I'm sorry. I just didn't like it. I never liked 10, he's my least favourite Doctor. I'd have preferred if they did half the regeneration here, fade to white, credits roll, the other half in the next special, because while I love David Tennant in other roles (especially Crowley) I cannot stand his Doctor, think he’s overstayed his welcome and wish I could ignore it.

Overall I think it's a good story and it has all the love for classic who that I wish the 50th had but didn't. Better written than DotD? I don't think so, but I like it better. (For one I actually like most of the characters involved, not only 3 of them) It definitely feels like a comfort episode, very self-indulgent, very camp and fun, fanfic-y but in a good way- but also this thing is a straight-up whole action movie, not an ordinary special.

Also you can still 100% tell that after series 10 Chibnall binge-read the VNAs, has the same vibes as the books, including one I was reading last night. To be fair Transit is all about space trains but that's just a coincidence I totally forgot there'd be a space train in the episode .

Book review: Romcom

Today I'll be talking about one of my absolute favorite books:

A Marriage of Anything but Convenience by Victorine E. Lieske

Now, I read this one a few months ago, but I love it so much I just had to review, and recommend it!

I don't even know where to start with this one.

A Marriage of Anything but Convenience was the first romcom I read. Before this one, I had it in my silly head that all romance books were smut. Why did I think that? I have no idea, but I did.

I started reading A Marriage of Anything but Convenience after reading a very dark and disturbing book. I may review it later so you know what you're getting yourself into. After reading said dark and disturbing book I was kinda spooked. I was also house sitting at the time, which doesn't help anything. Neither does my true crime fascination. Since I was spooked, and sleeping in a strange house, I decided I needed something to distract me. So I went to find the silliest, goofiest sounding book I had on my kindle.

And this is what I decided on. And I'm so glad it was!

Here's what the back cover says:

It was a simple marriage of convenience. Just two years. What could possibly go wrong?

Nara couldn't believe it when her father came up with the crazy idea that she needed to marry Mr. Stuffy himself. Derek Marshall. Sure, he was stinkin' gorgeous and made her insides quiver. But marry him? She was on her way to getting her dream job as a fashion designer. Well, on her way if you counted getting coffee for someone who had her dream job.

Derek has been in love with Nara all his life. But how can he possibly get her to see it? He's not cool like the men Nara usually dates. He gets tongue-tied around her. But now they're married and all he can think about is the clock ticking down until the divorce date.

Can he show her how much he really cares?

Now for the actual review!

First of all, I need to say I love the characters! Nara and Derek are both adorable. They are so very different and it was just so cute! Nara is fun loving, and a little silly. Derek is "Mr. Stuffy". What I pictured was back always straight and a serious look forever on his face.

But that all changed with Nara. Nara was determined to make him loosen up during their two year arrangement, and that whole situation was hilarious! There were a few times where he agreed to do things with her, because he knew it would make her happy, even though it was NOT something he was comfortable doing.

I laughed the entire way through this book until I cried! It was so cute I was squealing! I cannot express how much I love this book!

Another thing, that some might not care about is references. I LOVE references to other books, movies, shows, really anything that I have seen, read, or listened to. This one's got two!

First is Magnum P.I., which I enjoy watching. Only the original with Tom Selleck though!

The other one I feel like needs a bit of back story.

Like I said, I went into this book thinking there were probably going to be nasties, and I wasn't sure until I saw this reference. It was fricken VEGGIE TALES!! I was so excited when I saw that! I grew up watching Veggie Tales, but once again, only the old ones, and as soon as I saw the reference, I screeched "IT CAN'T BE GROSS NOW! NOT WITH VEGGIE TALES!" And I was right!

Later I did see a review saying it was boring because of the lack of smut, but seriously, I don't think it's EVER necessary.

And last, but certainly not least, triggers.

There is absolutely NOTHING in this book, that I found, that could be a trigger. Like I said, no sex. There wasn't even swearing. It was beautifully squeaky clean! My favorite kind of book!

Also, I did get this book for free on Amazon, but it wasn't an ARC. I'm not sure if it's still free or not, but it's definitely worth the look! I did end up buying the paperback after reading it. So I could display it and lend it to friends!

Sero tries to make sure that izuku gets some rest

They’re both kinda insecure, izuku more than sero, but still; and they make sure to reassure each other as often as possible

Sero likes listening to Izuku’s ramblings and finds them cute. He has told izuku this, only for the poor boy to imitate a tomato

After Izuku has been particularly reckless, Sero takes advantage of his quirk, wraps Izuku in bubble wrap, and tapes it there

Tokodeku:

Jocknerd bf and goth bf, we love to see it

Tokoyami teaches izuku how to sword fight

They start a dnd club at U.A.

Izuku talks to dark shadow a lot, Dark Shadow approves of him, and has claimed the spot of best man at their wedding

Izuku comes up with ideas to help Tokoyami gain control with Dark Shadow

Dark Shadow is very protective over Izuku, no matter how many times Tokoyami tells him that he can take care of himself, Dark Shadow will put himself between Izuku and any form of danger as often as possible

Dekoyama??? Aoyama/izuku:

Aoyama gives him makeovers, obviously

Aoyama drags izuku to the mall and tries to revamp some of his wardrobe, but he actually finds the “pants” and “flannel” type shirts cute

They help each other train their quirks

Aoyama is trilingual, and teaching izuku English and French.

Izuku always brings Aoyama home some new cheese

Y’all, I love them so much. There needs to be more aodeku content

Monoshinsou:

They have people watching dates. They come up with stories for the people they’re watching; their job, family, background, etc.

They judge people together

They call each other “love”

They’re both dramatic bastards, who will flop onto their lovers lap and proclaim their death due to a minor inconvenience

They jokingly sh*t-talk class A

Shinsou said “I love you” first, and it was because Monoma brought him coffee to class

Monoyama:

They go shopping together and pick out the most dramatic pieces of clothing for each other

I love them so much, please 😭✋

They have tea parties every week, where they sh*t talk everyone else and gossip

They both actually make clothing, they’ll go fabric shopping together. Gift exchanges are often articles of clothing that they’ve made for each other

Momomei:

They work on gear together!!!

Momo makes sure that mei gets some sleep

Mei helps redesign momo’s suit

They often work together with izuku to work in gear and such

They actually got together after izuku introduced them. He had been working on gear with mei, and studying with momo and he thought they’d hit it off. He was correct

Shintsuyu:

Dude they’d be so cute

Tsu is a vent gremlin, and you can’t change my mind. So she and shinsou will play a game where they try to find each other. Tsu is in the vent and shinsou is in the classrooms. Shinsou will try to find whichever vent she’s in, or she’ll find whichever classroom he’s in, in 20 minutes or less

I always headcanoned tsu as a dog person, so they’d have two cats and two dogs, and a bunny that they named Deku

They like comparing their friends to animals, hence the bunny, Deku

Kamideku:

Kaminari is a flirt, and izuku does n o t know how to handle it

Kaminari likes listening to izuku’s ramblings, and can keep up with them. He’ll ask questions on things too, and Izuku has never felt more appreciated

KIRIDEKU, MY BELOVED:

They ran into each other one night in the common room after both having nightmares. They talked about middle school, how they were both bullied, izuku’s quirk coming in late, katsuki being abusive, kiri being bullied because his quirk wasn’t “cool.” After that, they were practically inseparable.

They started going on dates, not that either of them knew they were dates. The entire class knew, so did the teachers, so did the rest of U.A. Kirishima picked up on it first after a comment from Mina, he had is realization.

So, he started courting Izuku. Not thag izuku realized this. He brought him flowers on most ‘dates,’ he bought him hero action figures whenever he could, he complimented him until Izuku was red in the face (which was honestly very easy.) Still, izuku remained ignorant to the fact that he was indeed dating Kirishima.

The final tipping point, was due to Uraraka’s help. She was quite tired of watching the two of them pine for each other. It was amusing for the first couple months, watching Kirishima try so hard, and Deku being totally oblivious. However, she took pity on her friends after a while.

So, Uraraka devised a devilish plan to get the two together. She involved Mina, Sero, and kaminari in this plan. What was the plan, you ask? Oh, simply to trap the two in one room until they broke through izuku’s obliviousness.

Kirishima finally “straight” up admitted his feelings, to which Izuku had the sudden realization of “oh my gods, have we been dating this whole time??” Yes, Izuku. Yes you have.

They have two anniversaries after that.

Let’s be honest, they are really, annoyingly, horrifically lovey dovey. Kirishima brags about having “the manliest and bestest boyfriend in the world.” Izuku flaunts his many PowerPoint presentations on how talented and incredible Kirishima is

Uraraka doesn’t know if she did the right thing by helping them. She is so tired

Tsujirou:

Jirou makes playlists for tsu

The few sane ones in class A, I swear

They go on walks in the rain as often as they can

They go for dates in the bookstore too. They each pick out an album and a book for the other to listen to and read

Jirou started liking tsu after the crew saved bakugou. Jirou sat with tsu after momo, Iida, kirishima, Todoroki, and izuku apologized and sat with her. They had movie night, and Jirou joined the Bakugou saving crew and tsu with taking well into the night. She just appreciated how much tsu cared

Tsu started liking Jirou after she helped Iida, momo, and izuku try to keep the class in order. She appreciated how diplomatic and calm she was

Jirou would talk to izuku all night long about how gay she was, and how adorable tsu was. So, izuku decided to try and suggest ways for Jirou to ask her out.

She did not end up getting to ask her out though, as Tsu walked up to her the next morning f and asked if she wanted to go on a date. Jirou said yes. Izuku cried

They’re both quite awkward when it comes to romance, but neither of them will shy away from facing the truth. So, Jirou made izuku a playlist filled with love songs that reminded her of him and sent it to him. Sadly, izuku is dense as hell.

So, then, after thinking that Jirou had done so much for him, izuku made her a playlist filled with love songs. Jirou took this to mean that izuku had finally picked up on her feelings, and accepted them.

So, they started to go on dates. Not that izuku knew this, as he is dense as hell. All leading up to izuku finally confessing his feelings on one of their ‘dates,’ to which Jirou responded, “dude, we’re already dating? Aren’t we? I- I thought that was obvious??”

At least once a day, Aoyama will proclaim that Tokoyami “shines almost as bright as he does, in his fabulous emo way”

They sword fight, and come up with really dramatic scenarios and scenes that they’re in

They bond over being in the izucrew and their shared love of swords. Aoyama took fencing classes in middle school, and Tokoyami got into sword fighting after watching it in pirates of the Caribbean as a young child. He is self taught and watched countless videos on the art of sword fighting

Tokoyami asked Aoyama our by dramatically presenting him with a dagger and going “will you accompany me on a formal outing as my lover?”

Shinyama:

They flirt constantly

No really, it’s getting quite annoying. Someone please stop them.

They both plop down in random areas and proclaim their deaths, the difference between them, is that Aoyama will burst into shinsou’s room, and yell “love, I’ve been murdered. Mourn for me” while plopping down on shinsou’s lap. Shinsou can be found laying face down outside aoyama’s door, and when Aoyama goes to open the door, he just goes “I’ve been murdered.”

^^ one time, shinsou did a very fun Halloween prank for this, where he poured fake blood all over himself for Aoyama to find him an hour later, asleep.

Iiyama:

Aoyama enjoys making Iida blush, obviously. But he takes joy in doing it specifically when class is about to start. Aizawa is tired of his shit

Everyone in the izucrew is close, but Iida and Aoyama started to get close after Iida told the crew about Stain. Aoyama wanted Iida to know that he wasn’t alone, and that he wanted to help him. So he started packing extra cheese for lunch and giving it to Iida. Iida was very confused at first. But this was Aoyama trying to court him. This was only made apparent by momo and Jirou telling Iida that this was aoyama’s attempt at expressing romantic interest.

Aoyama flirts with everyone, that’s just who he is. But with Iida? Oh it was tenfold. The poor boy was red in the face constantly. Aoyama was a persistent little bugger too, following him around and calling him ‘mon amour’

Kirikamideku:

They train together, and kiri and kami always appreciate izuku’s analysis snd ideas

Kiri falls even more in love with izuku and kaminari when they go off on rants. Izuku rants and kami can keep up with him so he asks questions about it. Kiri loves to watch his boyfriends go on rants, I don’t make the rules, but I do enforce them

They started to get closer after kami and kiri found bakugou causing a ptsd flashback (could be on purpose of an accident, up to the reader.) they stated with him and tried to talk him through it. After this, izuku started to tell them about having been a “late bloomer” and being bullied, etc. (I don’t know, man; I tend to over share after flashbacks and after panic attacks)

Izuku tutors them in several subjects, but kami tutors them in English. Kiri just falls in love with his smart boyfriends

Izuku is teaching kami JSL and kami is helping izuku with English and Italian (personal headcanon that Italian has been one of kami’s special interests) kiri loves to listen to them, and finds it relaxing and calming to hear them do this. When he has panic attacks, he’ll ask them to tutor each other in different languages

An unbearable pain runs through your entire body, causing you to flinch and to reflexively pull away your hand from the source of the sudden pain, bringing your mind back into the real world after you had left reality a few minutes ago. Too lost in your own dark thoughts, you did not even notice how you apparently were on the verge of adding the wrong ingredient to the greenish bubbling substance seething in your cauldron in front of you. Luckily, your best friend and helper in need, Draco Malfoy, was right there to prevent you from blowing up the entire classroom by grabbing your wrist and pulling your hand away.

Your look back and forth between him and your cauldron, his eyes full of shock from your sudden harsh reaction at his touch and how the tears have formed in your eyes immediately after. Gently wrapping your fingers around your own wrist, you quickly avoid his gaze and look down at your lap.

“You almost caused a huge explosion, Y/N! Where did your thoughts wander off to again?”, Draco rebukes you in a calm voice in order to not let Professor Snape hear him, but you can hear great concern within it. “Is everything alright?”

“I am sorry”, you answer softly, but still do not look up until Draco lifts your head up slightly by gently placing his finger under your chin, forcing you to look at him. Your eyes immediately meet his gray ones, and your cheeks take on a delicate pinkish tone before you discover something in the corner of your eye a second later. Something directly behind him that suddenly attracts your full attention.

Your boyfriend, Theodore Nott, who – to his anger – was not assigned to your group today, watches the scene with narrowed eyes and when you finally notice how this situation must look in his eyes, you slap Draco’s hand off your face.

Instead of saying something, Draco notices the terrified expression on your face and follows your gaze so that the two of you are now looking over to your boyfriend. Theodore now has a little smile on his lips and the air suddenly fills with an uncomfortable and overwhelming tension as he and Draco stare at each other, fighting a silent battle.

However, said mischievous smile on your boyfriend’s face quickly disappears after Professor Snape appeared behind him and smacks him with one of his books, making it hard for you to suppress a giggle.

“I still can’t understand what you like about that guy”, Draco shakes his head in disapproval as he turns back to your project with a sigh, fading out the world around him while working on the potion.

In fact, he could not understand it at all.

In his eyes, you are the most beautiful, loving being that he has ever seen in his entire life. He just cannot understand how someone like you can fall in love with someone like him. Theodore Nott, who always treats you incredibly bad, who never gives you the attention you truly deserve, who does not make you happy in the slightest bit. Draco had to watch him make you cry many times. He watched how the most beautiful and kindest girl in all of Hogwarts, probably in the world, was hurt. Draco was at your side immediately, to give you comfort even though it broke his heart every time he saw you cry. But no matter how many times he told you to end things with him, you would not listen.

Your love for him was stronger than the pain he causes you is what you would always tell him.

However, what Draco does not know, even though he is your best friend, is that you never actually loved him. Your parents arranged your relationship, and you had no choice but to obey their wishes. The maintenance of your family’s pureblood status is more important than your happiness, the union with the Nott family is more important than you will ever be. In the beginning you still had hope that your arranged relationship might turn into something real, but you were quickly taught otherwise. Since the moment your parents agreed to the contract, Theodore has made your life a living hell, causing you not only psychological but also physical pain, which obviously no one knows about.

Not even Draco.

Whenever you came to Draco, crying your eyes out for the hundredth time a week, you had to hide your wounds, the numerous bruises that spread over your entire body, but Draco’s presence could always calm you down. He gives you the strength to get through all of this, even though he is actually the one your heart belongs to. It has always been that way, but you know he is too good for you. A girl like you would never deserve someone like him.

“Would you like to come to the courtyard with me during the break?”, Draco’s words tear you out of your deep thoughts after he has not received an answer to his previous question, as expected. “Today is a beautiful day, the sun is out, and the fresh air will certainly do you some good.”

Feeling his pitying look on you, you look at him and force a gentle smile onto your lips before you nod and lower down your head again. You hide your hands in the sleeves of your black cloak anxiously and place them on top of your lap, trying to refrain them from trembling.

The end of the lesson comes sooner than expected and you help Draco to clean up your utensils before you make your way to the courtyard together. Unfortunately, you do not get very far, – you only get to the door, to be precise – when your name is said behind you, pronounced by the voice that you would like to escape from immediately.

“Excuse me, where do you think you are going?”, he asks you reproachfully and you turn to him, your throat dry and your hands already shaking again.

“I- We wanted to go to the courtyard because today is such a lovely day and-“

“You said you wanted to spend the break with me today, remember? Like we always do”, Theodore snaps at you out of nowhere and his gaze switches between Draco and you.

“No-“

“Well then, come with me”, he says possessively and pulls you towards him by your arm, making you whimper in pain slightly before you bite down onto your lower lip to silence yourself. The dark bruises on your skin burn terribly under his touch.

“B-But I actually wanted to go with Draco-“, you try to talk to Theodore, but he only throws you a disapproving glance and just by this tiny gesture, he changes your mind. “O-Okay. I will come with you.”

Roughly and rather violently he pulls you through the corridor as you turn around to take a last look at Draco, who sadly watches you leave, and you form an ‘I am sorry’ with your lips before you disappear around the next corner.

Slowly, Draco lowers the hand he used to wave you goodbye and directs his gaze to the floor. In the next moment, he angrily throws his bag onto the solid ground with all of his might. Other students who are now rushing out of their classrooms into the hallways bump into him, but he remains motionless in their midst. Draco clenches his hands into fists as he thinks about how you are being treated. If only he were able to somehow help you to understand what a healthy relationship would look like. If only he could show you how he feels about you without you immediately ending your long-lasting friendship. That little spark of hope he still had has almost completely vanished.

You would never choose him. He is a Malfoy, a monster, a nobody.

“Draco”, a voice suddenly calls out to him, and he turns around only to see how Pansy Parkinson walks directly towards him through the now empty hallways, a book in her hand that she holds up into the air. “I borrowed this book from Y/N but I can’t find her anywhere and I do not have a class with her today. I thought you could maybe give it back to her.”

“Yes, of course. I will”, Draco replies, and she hands him the book before she walks past him, on her way to enjoy her break. Draco turns around again, his gaze focused on the hallway you disappeared in earlier, running his fingers over the cover of your book. Sighing deeply, he picks up his bag from the ground and shoves the book inside. Making the decision to look for you now to return the book, he slowly starts walking. In doing so, however, he does not think about the consequences his appearance could have for you.

Searching for you around the school, he wanders through the long corridors of Hogwarts, only occasionally meeting a few other students on his way since everyone seems to spend their time outside today. Every time he hears voices, he hopes it is you, but he gets disappointed every time when only a few first years scurry past him. Almost giving up his search, he suddenly hears a loud and very aggressive voice echoing through the empty hallways and he stops in his tracks.

Draco is not able to understand the words that are uttered with such incredible anger, but an uneasy feeling forms in his guts which finally causes him to follow the voice until he discovers two silhouettes at the end of a corridor.

“How many times have I told you that you must obey me, stupid slut?!”, Theodore screams at you in rage continuously, his hands tightly around your upper arms to keep you in place, in order to shake you vigorously and to have you under his control.

“But I have-“

“Be quiet!”, he interrupts you furiously and his grip on your arms becomes even harsher, probably leaving another painful bruise behind while you have already given up on trying to hold back your tears and defending yourself. You will just let him do to you what he always does.

You know you have no chance against him anyway. He is too strong for you.

“B-But-“

“I said shut up!”, he yells at you again and before you know it, you feel a stabbing pain on your cheek, which starts to throb immediately after a loud smack has sounded throughout the corridor. Looking at him in shock, you press your hand against your sore cheek while he prepares for another slap.

Before he can hit you again, however, he is suddenly torn away from you, and you sink to the ground immediately, your legs unable to hold you up any longer. Draco, who has watched everything, jumps onto Theodore, punching him directly into the face and pushing him down the hallway, away from you.

“You dare to mess with me, Malfoy?”, Theodore grinds his teeth angrily, blood dropping from his nose to the ground.

“Never lay a hand on her again, you bastard”, Draco threatens and as soon as he has uttered those words, he is thrown to the ground with Theodore on top of him, hitting him over and over again.

Crouching down against the wall, your entire body shakes and trembles from your heavy sobs while you have to watch how Draco gets hurt. Because of none other than you.

“I always knew you had a crush on her”, Theodore laughs maliciously as he grabs Draco by his collar and gives him another bone-cracking blow right into the face. “Unfortunately for you, she is my girlfriend. Or should I say fiancé?”

“Nobody wants to be with a monster like you”, Draco spits out and finally manages to gain the upper hand. Now he is the one who hits your boyfriend like crazy, showing absolutely no signs of mercy. “What you did to her is unforgivable and must be punished. Never even think about getting near her again or I will not retain from using an unforgivable curse on you!”

With these last words, Draco finally knocks him out successfully, Theodore’s body showing no more movement beneath him, while Draco needs to calm down his rapid breathing. Losing no time, he quickly gets up, giving him one last kick – just to be on the safe side – and comes running to you right away.

“Hey, hey, hey, sweetheart. Everything will be alright now. He will never hurt you again, I promise”, Draco comforts you and takes your shaky frame into his arms, transferring his warmth to you. He soothingly rubs his hands over your back, very gently in order to not scare or hurt you, and lets you cry into his shoulder. Gasping for air from your bitter weeping, you clench your hands into the fabric of his cloak. Draco carefully takes your face in his hands, his gaze immediately on your red cheek, and then directly looks into your reddened eyes.

“I am so sorry. I should have been here earlier. Oh god, I did not know what he was doing to you all this time”, Draco apologizes to you, so much suffer evident in his voice and eyes at the sight of you. You needed him so badly all this time, but he did not notice. He did not know what was happening to you whenever he was not around. He had no idea what you had to endure and how much you suffered.

“D-Draco”, you sob, but no intelligible words want to form in your mouth and instead he takes you into his arms again, is your support. The physical pain that he is feeling because of the hits he took in is nothing in contrast to his internal suffering by seeing you like this. If he had only been more persistent, it might never have come to this.

“Come on, I will take you out of here”, he gently whispers to you and as soon as he perceives a tiny nod from you, he lifts you up into his arms and carries you towards the hospital wing. Once there, he reluctantly hands you over to Madam Pomfrey who takes care of you immediately.

Several minutes pass, which feel like unbearable hours for Draco, until Madam Pomfrey comes back to him. Draco jumps up from his chair and gives her a worried look right away.

“She is still in a bit of a shock, but she is responsive. Before you talk to her, I should take a look at your injuries first, Mr. Malfoy”, she explains to him, but Draco does not even think about getting himself checked as he is already on his way to see you.

With an exhausted look and an occasional tear running down your cheek, you recognize his blurry frame in front of you. His usually perfectly styled hair is disheveled, spattered with blood, his face also covered in blood and a black eye is already looming around his left eye. But his only concern is you.

“Y/N, how are you?”, he asks you and comes to your side, gently placing his hand, whose knuckles are bruised, on top of yours and squeezing it slightly.

“Thank you”, you say, your voice rough and weak, but you manage to bring a smile to your lips.

“Not for that, please”, he denies and now takes your hand tighter in his. You can tell that he blames himself.

“I did not know what he was doing to you, otherwise-“

“You saved me, Draco”, you interrupt him softly and run your thumb over the back of his hand. “I could not step up to him.”

“You did not have to, sweetheart. You did everything you could”, he comforts you and his eyes become sadder from second to second. “You should have told me.”

“I couldn’t.”

“I know. That bastard, if I seem him again, I swear I will-“, Draco starts off, but when he sees your expression change, he quickly interrupts himself. “It is over now.”

"I don't want to be forced to marry him."

"You will not, I promise. I will talk to you parents, okay? It will be fine", he softly assures you.

“Is it true what he said?”, you ask after a bit of silence, your eyes suddenly full of hope while your heart beats faster. “That you have feelings for me?”

At your words, a big smile forms on Draco’s lips and he nods in agreement. He does not avoid your gaze but looks at you more lovingly than ever.

“I love you with all of my heart”, he confesses, placing a feather-light kiss on the back of your hand. However, you suddenly pull him towards you by his hand and place a gentle kiss on his lips, making both of you smile.

“I love you, too.”

authorial bias and intent

first, I think you can draw a pretty solid line between "alice and jasper are not into show" and smeyer's religious background. if you pay attention to how the various canon couples are framed by the narrative vs how much physical affection they show in public, it sure tracks with the idea that smeyer grew up steeped in purity culture (the conservative christian fundamentalist, purity-ring, virgin-until-marriage-or-you-can't-get-sealed-in-the-mormon-temple kind, not the fandom kind.)

rosalie and emmett are big into PDA and legendarily horny, and their relationship is characterized as "shallower." coincidence? I think not.

contrast the protagonists. edbella's whole "alas, I cannot kiss you too passionately lest I smash your face in like a rotting jack-o-lantern" thing is both the perfect excuse to Leave Room For Jesus and also a source of great sexual tension. it allowed smeyer to have her purity cake and feed her horny tween audience some titillation, too.

and she absolutely adores alice as a character, so it makes sense that she'd give jalice her version of a "perfect" relationship. but at some point (IMO, the point where they're standing in an airport creepily staring at each other instead of hugging) smeyer's vision of an ideal relationship diverges pretty substantially from most of ours (though not all. I've had plenty of aspecs tell me the lack of pda resonates with them!)

to give credit where credit is due, she also seems to have been trying to characterize how a relationship might look different when a) it's 50 years old, and b) it's between people with ~freaky psychic emotion powers,~ but I agree with you that the execution in book!canon falls somewhat flat. she didn't really take the time or care necessary to convey that this is a ~special and unique~ relationship; we're just told it is and then we're shown jasper and alice...not touching.

the whole thing feels like a simple case of intent not quite coming through in execution, mostly because smeyer didn't spend much time or energy describing characters who weren't edbella.

by my count, movie!jalice get more onscreen interaction (3 kissing scenes! he hands her a tiny flower! there are multiple counts of uncensored handholding!) than any other couple besides edbella. (jalices can't help but win, ok)

my guess is that this change comes from film being a more visual medium with a limited runtime. it's a lot easier to convey "these two are a couple" via kissing or handholding than it would be via...intensely staring at each other (besides, 60% of the franchise is edbella intensely staring at each other. that's their thing.)

fan interpretations

this is great news for us as fans, because we get to pick and choose. do we want jalice to be Chaste And Private, or do we want them to be fully making out in front of the entire wolf pack? canon either way.

I tend to fall somewhere in the middle, myself. I think the idea that they’re fairly private tracks with jasper’s character—he’s not a showy guy, he’s super overprotective, and he definitely views their relationship in a very ~sacred~ light. alice is a much showier character individually, but when it comes to jasper, she seems fine either way and happy to accommodate whatever his comfort level with pda is.

but I don’t think they’re so extreme that they won’t show physical affection in the presence of friends and family, or to the point of staring-but-not-touching after a separation as dramatic as the one in New Moon. that’s where the line is for me, anyway (and it sounds like for you, too. high five ;D)

basically, writing twilight fic is always a balancing act of “how much do I keep from canon/which canon do I choose?” and this is no exception.

Toothiana Concept Design Review

As promised, I tried to hunt down every single design of her and I think i got them all. (Or at least most.) It’s the Queen’s turn lets go, starting with her book designs!

According to Joyce, this is one of the earliest designs for Tooth. She started out as a suited human and not as a human-bird hybrid. If you squint you can see a widow’s peak/hairline on her head. She gives me more super hero-like vibes in this one and the peacock feathers are interesting! I can’t say I’m a fan of it. Below is another book design I found that is VERY similar to this one, so I grouped them together.

Rating: 4/10 Glad he made her more bird like.

As a bonus, here is the design for Tooth as a child. Her toy there looks almost like a tooth but I have no idea what it actually is. I like how u can see a tiny curl of her hair under the hat. Otherwise I don’t have a lot of thoughts on this one.

Rating: 4/10 Not a fan but this exists I guess. BUT SHE ALSO HAS A SWORD.

A tooth that appears in the Man In The Moon Picture book. (Heh it almost looks like shes hanging onto Aster’s sleeve here.) I just noticed shes got an F symbol on her bag that she has on the belt of her childhood outfit. She looks kinda angelic here ngl. Very wintery colors. Rating: 6/10 Wish she was more colorful just a little bit

THERE SHE IS. THE FINAL BOOK TOOTH. Her feathers are absolutely stunning and the feather-puffy pants combo is  A LOOK(A good one). The only things I got that bother me is how round her head is at the top. If it had longer feathers that stuck out it’d look a little less weird. And one other thing

Ear Feathers?????? Don’t know why but this AINT A VIBE. Rating: 7/10 looks like a queen and the swords are badass

I cannot stress enough how many movie Tooth designs exist so buckle up.

Starting with a mysterious human looking Tooth, this design surfaced from this post 8 years ago. The original poster claimed it wasn’t from the movie credits and I couldn’t find any other trace of this design so it’s dubious at best. However I included it just in case it was in the movies/plans at some point of production. (I’m a little skeptical but oh well.) I do like how her outfit does look similar to real life outfits of her home region and she just looks gorgeous here.

Rating: Dubiously Canon/10

This one feels more stylistic but damb I gotta appreciate how intricate her feathers look. Looks like she’s right out of a storybook and it’s very appealing.

Rating: 6/10 Not many thoughts just love her

A fascinating one I found in my search. This was one of three designs that had Tooth in a mask but if you squint you can see she has a knife/dagger. So she would have had that blade wielding quirk like her book counterpart. She looks a bit more human in this one(At least in my opinion) The little flared collar is a nice touch that I oddly like. She looks like a fairy queen here for sure. She almost reminds me of a fencer Rating: 5/10 Good but too human

The other masked Tooth! There are, a lot of thoughts I have about this one. The colors are GREAT and so are her wings. Her body however reminds me of the suited Tooth design Joyce had drawn up. It looks almost like shes wearing a shirt with holes in it over a pink one and I just don’t know how to feel about it. Something is just off about this one.

Rating: 3/10 Wings r great throw the rest away

Another rare Tooth. She looks very similar to the one above and still has that mask. Or it could just be her actual head and not a mask this whole time! What a twist. Anyway, given the lighting it’s hard to tell what her base colors were but I’ll work with what we got. She’s a little less colorful looking than the other Tooths so it’s a little disappointing. Her wings are still quite impressive in my opinion.

Rating: 5/10 It’s nice but very one note in this concept image color wise

Now this Tooth is an interesting one. She ditched the bird theming all together and is more butterfly themed. She’s more humanoid here but something about this design just hits a sweet spot for me. It’s very simple but I can’t explain it. Also I’m weak for her head covering/hood(?)

Rating: 8/10 Ignore the very blue white haired Sasuke lookin guy in her arms

Excuse the very poor image quality here. I could only find it in this resolution so we gotta squint on this one. This one.. Call me weak but its one of my favorites. Her puffy pants make a return and they look like actual clothes! Her feather-cloak is a nice touch. I *think* this Tooth has hair if you look close but it’s hard to tell. It works in this design oddly works! Rating: 8/10 No complaints! Just that its so JPEGY AAAAA

Oh man Y’all I

Her energy itself is powerful. This Tooth feels older than the final design and has a very seasoned look to her. Call me a simp I DONT CARE. She’s such a queen here and I can’t get over it

She lives in my head rent free and I will never ask her to pay rent. I’ll PAY HER. If I was forced to pick a favorite Tooth, it’s this one. She has fantasy elements and traits that remind me of an Indian Queen.

Rating: 10/10 Y’all already know i simp for this one I dont need to put anything else here.

The final Tooth having gold feathers to imitate jewelry is just as good so I have no complaints about her. Her eyes are absolutely stunning

They sort of remind me of a mosaic with light shining on it or gemstones even. That and her eyelashes are so on point. I fuckin ADORE THEM. No lash glue needed those are all natural baby. Additionally, she’s very humming bird themed(which is excellent) but her wings actually look more like dragon fly wings

Curious since they are one of(if not the) fastest flying insect. It makes sense when you see how fast Tooth can zip around. It never occurred to me until dragonflies came around this season and I watched them closely. Overall I adore this version of her all the same.
