Here and Now
(Somewhere, sometime, repeatedly, many, many years ago…)
<<It’s time… again.>>
…
(And then, once more.)
(April 29, 2011: 11:58:47 Universal Standard Time. Her Office.)
“…”
“…say what you want to say.” Itchy intoned coldly to the Warmaster.
Hazuki ignored the little blighter, still focused on that blue marble on the horizon, her eyes unblinking.
Ignoring the large amount of food and tea she had consumed to distract herself… Even she, the most blessed agent of the Officios, the coldest of all killers, found herself full of rage on this most ruinous of nights.
The Egg’s energy above the fortress continued to ebb and flow, practically leaking with anticipation.
Hazuki knew what was about to happen, and she KNEW she could prevent it, interfere with that creature’s plans.
But the Incubator of the First Officio, the Primus inter Pares, forbade it. Not one member of this elite cadre would leave Luna to fight the laughing terror.
Of course, it was blamed on the possibility of an Akashic storm caused by Walpurgisnacht’s natural energy blossoming into the noosphere, and based on the precedent endorsed by the Tokyo Consensus and the Great Exile (and, for those with knowledge of the Egg and the one officially known as ‘Faust’, the possibility of a different cosmic entity using the Witch of Witches as an excuse for more unending terror)… but Hazuki knew.
She knew what the Incubator wanted, what the Plan required.
And, what’s worse - she UNDERSTOOD the creature’s reasoning. It was, as always with the Incubator of the First, a logical decision based on the parameters set forth in the Great Plan.
But even she, Hazuki Amane, Warmaster of the First Officio Assassinorum, Supreme Leader of the People’s Imperium of Syraqhanistan, Most Honourable of Commanders, Killer of Kings, the Light in the Dark and the Blessed Lady’s Harbinger…
Even she hated this. She despised that she could no nothing, and she despised that she understood what it meant for herself and her elites to remain on Luna as Terra began to burn.
“…tch.” The First said with a grunt. She stood up from the table as the sand in the symbolic hourglass almost completed it’s descent.
She ignored the wiggling tail of the alien on her desk, and instead swung her coat and it’s golden decorations over her shoulders with a single swift movement, summoning her Shield, a machine of blessed gold, to her side.
“Where are y—” Itchy began to whine, before a glare stopped it.
“I’m doing as you asked. I’m guarding the Moon from any potential threats. Myself and the Officio will be on standby, alerted to any issues at a moment’s notice…”
She glanced once more over to the Incubator, and to the hourglass, which had almost reached it’s limit.
“Incubator, this base is now under lockdown, as per your instructions… I suggest you get to safety.”
She began to march from the office as klaxons began to blare as the Moon felt the movement of blossoming magical energy cascading across the emptiness of space, a seething, burning light barely being suppressed underneath her shield, her boots ringing louder than any of the alarms.
“I wouldn’t want you to get hurt, after all.”
The final grain of sand fell from the hourglass, and the Noctis Aeterna began, as the despairing witch of all the world’s stage made itself known.
Walpurgisnacht had arrived once more.

I once had a friend watch me on discord call as I essentially “streamed” writing a fic because I signed up for an ao3 event and I wanted to write the fic but I couldn’t get myself to actually do it so that was the method we came up with
And having to rewrite a sentence over and over again in front of her felt like the equivalent of knowing you need to double jump in a game but you can’t get your character to do it, they’re just doing small jumps and you have to keep restarting it
