Author: Alexandria Bellefleur
Series or standalone: series
Publication year: 2020
Genres: fiction, romance, LGBT+, contemporary, retelling
Blurb: After a disastrous blind date, Darcy Lowell is desperate to stop her well-meaning brother from playing matchmaker ever again. Love - and the inevitable heartbreak - is the last thing she wants, so she fibs and says her latest setup was a success; Darcy doesn’t expect her lie to bite her in the ass. Elle Jones, one of the astrologers behind the popular Twitter account Oh My Stars, dreams of finding her soulmate. She knows it is most assuredly not Darcy - a no-nonsense stick in the mud who is way too analytical, punctual, and sceptical for someone as free-spirited as Elle. When Darcy’s brother - and Elle’s new business partner - expresses how happy he is that they hit it off, Elle is baffled. Was Darcy on the same date? Because...awkward. When Darcy begs Elle to play along, she agrees to pretend they’re dating to save face...but with a few conditions: Darcy must help Elle navigate her own overbearing family over the holidays, and their arrangement expires on New Year’s Eve. The last thing they expect is to develop real feelings during a fake relationship.

Just read the like "stars" rom-com trilogy by Alexandria Bellefleur, and these were my main thoughts:
Written in the Stars:
Super cute, and definitely my favorite. It set the bar high. I feel so very robbed that this is the only one of the three without an epilogue. I need more of Darcy and Elle. The little appearances in the following books are just not enough.
Hang the Moon:
I know it was basically his book, but I wanted less of Brendon. I liked him okay in the first book, but there was way too much of him here (again... I know). I literally wanted more of every other character. I wanted more of Annie with every other character.
Count Your Lucky Stars:
I love Margot and Olivia. I really wish this was about Elle and Darcy's wedding instead. Also, it didn't make sense that they still needed cake and other stuff too. The wedding was three weeks away, they really should've only needed a replacement venue... nothing else changed.
Just general thoughts:
I think I was offended by almost every one of the little horoscope lists lol
Honestly you could probably just skip the second one
I know they're romance novels and everything that comes with that, but I want more depth. Nothing too dramatic, but just I want to see more. A whole universe. I wouldn't be mad if the first and third books were turned into separate trilogies tbh. At the very least sequels would be nice. I want more of everyone (except Brendon lol)

For You, I’ll Hang The Moon
The air was crispy, the waves were crashing onto the sandy beach, the same old playground equipment was there, and I was reminded back of that day in 2013.
I know you will probably not see this, but this is a post for me, and if you do see this, I hope you remember this memory too. It was 11/17/2022, 3:30AM, I didn't want to go home after the gym, knowing I wouldn't be able to sleep, so I decided to revisit a memory I had not been to in almost 9 years. I passed by the parking area that we used to stay at in the car and take our cuddled naps at on Sundays. I almost got stuck in a pile of sand that was deep, but I managed to get my car out and find parking to get off and walk around the beach area. I sat on the bench and looked around, the same place we visited that early morning after you told me that night that you loved me, and we woke up to walk on the beach and take in the beauty of the wonderful night we had created.  I still remember us taking pictures that morning with us on the slide, and on the rocking animal, and just being together. What a wonderful memory.
I sat on the bench and looked around. I looked up at the sky to see the stars shining so bright, trying to find a shooting star to make a wish and witness the beauty of a star passing by the night sky. I looked around and I could just remember that day, the smiles we had, the fun we had, our first night sleeping together, the love we developed. I walked towards the slide I sat at and climbed up to get a better view of the stars. I saw the moon and I remember the song I dedicated to you years ago, from the musical Bombshell, Hang the Moon from SMASH. I stood on top of the slide and sang the song. I even dedicated it to you by using your name E. The memories flooded into my mind, and I finished the song just staring at the moon. I looked up at the sky just hoping I could see a shooting star to make a simple wish, “I wish I could be happy again; I wish everything could go back to the way it was” and after staring at the sky, I finally saw the shooting star, made my wish and I cried while making it. it was super emotional for me, but I witnessed the shooting star, made my wish and I ended up crying as I staired at the night sky. It was the first time I cried in a while. I looked up at the sky one more time before heading back to the house and I walked to the car and left the place where I once had the time of my life with the man I loved so deeply.
That was the night I cried for a long time, I miss you, I miss those 9 years, but life had its plan. But always remember, and for you darling, I’ll hang the moon.

Hang the Moon by @alexandriabellefleur
----------
Date Read: January 26, 2024 - January 30, 2024
----------
Hang the Moon is a beautiful follow-up to Written in the Stars and author Alexandria Bellefleur manages to bring both Brenden and Annie to life in this book. Brenden is a sappy, rom-com-influenced guy who will go out of his way to show how much he cares for and adores Annie, who doesn't really believe in the whole love-at-first-sight, rom-com tropes. Annie is also only visiting Seattle for two weeks because she's about to take a promotion that will have her moving to London. The countdown is on to woo Annie and to convince her to stay in Seattle where not only Brenden lives, but his sister Darcy lives, as well, who just so happens to be Annie's best friend.
Brenden has some wonderful plans on how to spend time with Annie which always seems to go a bit awry. There's the Ferris wheel incident, the karaoke incident, the drive-in incident, and so on. However, despite most everything that Brenden plans going sideways, Annie still finds him endearing and perhaps even smitten...?
When it comes to the romance genre, I enjoy reading sapphic romance. That being said, the fact that the author was able to keep me engaged in a hetero romance says a lot. Her writing is beautiful and I really enjoyed getting to know Brenden and Annie, inside and out. That's especially saying a lot, because I wasn't too big of a fan of Brenden in Written in the Stars. I'm grateful that he set Elle and Darcy up for their first date, but man does he like to interfere in his sister's life!
Overall, I'd give recommend this book.

She eyed his order of Greek-style poutine hungrily. Her Gyrito had been satisfying but not the most filling. She plucked a fry from the basket and cradled it with her other hand, careful not to drip grease all over the counter as she brought it to her mouth. Her taste buds exploded with that one perfectly balanced bite of feta cheese, tzatziki sauce, and Kalamata olives. She groaned and plucked another fry from the paper boat, scarfing it down before going back for one more.

Hang the Moon by Jeannette Walls

4.5 out of 5.
An ARC from Netgalley, courtesy of Simon & Schuster, with a scheduled release date of 23 March 2023.
Sallie, born at the turn of the 20th Century, adored her father, Duke Kincaid, and the feeling appeared to be mutual. Her life was one of comfort and privilege as Duke was the big man in the small town they lived in. Then while trying to teach her three year old half-brother how to be more daring like their father, there is an accident and young Eddie is injured, leading to her beloved father sending her away to live with her late mother's sister.
What should've been a month or so of exile turned into nine years, Sallie only going back to her home once her stepmother died. Headstrong, Sallie has plans that are very different from that her father has in mind for her. As they butt heads, secrets and scandals from the past change Sallie's relationships with almost everyone, but especially her father.
I was taken by the cover of this book when I first saw it on Netgalley. That fascination was increased by the short synopsis provided there. It was difficult holding out reading it, but I wanted my review to be closer to the first of 2023 when readers are making their Anticipated Reads lists.
I was swept away almost from the start, deeply invested in the lives of the people portrayed here. Sallie, obviously, but also Tom and Eddie, Nell and Aunt Faye, and even Duke himself. I recognized these people because I knew their like from my own childhood. Walls had me deeply invested in these characters to the point of reading virtually non-stop all day and into the evening.
This is how the best historical fiction should be written, weaving real events throughout the fictional story. Sallie is a person I could root for, shake my head over, but always want her to succeed. Not on Duke's terms, but her own. I honestly and sincerely would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good read, who delights in losing themselves in a carefully crafted tale that mixes almost gothic elements with resilience and determination, set in a time of massive change in the world.

The sequel to Written in the Stars is HERE!!! Kind of. This book follows a completely different couple, but I'm okay since Elle and Darcy do make appearances. Darcy's best friend, Annie, who is in town on a visit, and Darcy's younger brother, Brendon, who runs a dating app company. Annie says she has sworn off love and wants to just continue her life in a job she hates. Since Darcy is out of town when Annie comes in, her younger brother, Brendon, promises to keep her busy till she comes back. Will Brendon help Annie find love? Or has she just been looking for love in all the wrong places? Maybe it's been in front of her the whole time? Read and find out!
I really enjoyed this book. I got to see all my favorite characters again. Also I got to hear more of Darcy and Brendon's back story, about what their childhood was like and how Darcy met Annie. It's a really sweet book. It's not only a book about romance, but on how changing your life and the way you see life is a great thing. Taking chances and risks could even make you happier! Just like Darcy decided to take a chance on Elle after a major heartbreak, Annie needs to decided if she's ready to renew her faith in love and life. (SPOILERS) I did feel though that Annie and Brendon's relationship was a little rushed. Not only by them, but their friends as well. But as my parents say, "When you know, you know. Why wait?" Which, I guess so, but this isn't about them.
If you loved Written in the Stars, I would highly recommend the sequel. I heard that there is a third book coming out soon, so stay tuned for that review!
Until next time 🍷📚
