I think that anyone who claims male characters are just as sexualized/objectified in media like comics, anime and manga, using the "well they're drawn as brawny and muscular" are either bullshitting or willfully ignorant. I mean, not denying that beauty standards are toxic for men too, but "objectification/sexualization" goes far beyond skimpy outfits and body types.
Only women in comics will be drawn with impractical and often anatomically impossible poses regardless of context, in ways that sacrifice storytelling. Only female characters will be sexualized when unconscious, victimized and dead. The same thing doesn't happen to male characters, unless its intentional satire.
Do I want the same for male characters? No, but my point is that compared to men, there is much more pressure for female characters to look "sexy" in every scene and look conventionally attractive regardless of personality, role or background.
Batman has a six-pack, but at least he won't be drawn with his ass, groin and chest sticking out in a scene supposed to be dramatic.

I think it's a really good thing that you're one of the people who's doing these edits tbh. And I hope you won't take that the wrong way. But I've seen it multiple times where women have done the same style of edits that you do, and every time those "fixes" broke out of containment on tumblr, politics were immediately ascribed to those editors, they were harassed for being alleged "SJWs", and they were called out as having been "disrespectful" of professionals in the comics industry. I understand in your time doing this, you've perhaps witnessed similar attempts at starting bad faith discourse. Anyways, I'm just grateful for a guy doing the same thing as these other editors in the community. Because at least that broadens the conversation and doesn't get anatomy and clothes fixing edits or even cultural sensitivity edits immediately dismissed out of hand for just because they came from a woman editor.
tbh the simple fact that i don't use any other (more functional) social media platforms has probably been a Much bigger contributer to me not getting harassed as much as the lovely ladies and nonbinaries who do the same work. I post on one side blog that was shadow banned for about 9months on a dying micro blogging platform and no where else. I've been mistaken for a lady plenty of times in the history on this blog, mostly because I don't post about being a man who loves men on this blog very often, but the harassment begins and ends after blocking like 3 or 4 people each time.
plus I don't answer bad faith asks unless there's something novel or funny to say. so the fact i don't give them any attention and this platform doesn't algorithmicaly reward that kind of behavior really helps keep things tolerable for the most part.
but yeah, having a white adjacent homosexual guy (ie the type of person who gets the absolute least out of criticisng comic depictions of women and minorities) to point to when someones being a shit is probably helpful.
but also a thing that gets missed a lot, is that the biggest open secret about me and this blog... is that i Am a professional artist. (i do marketing and illustration work(think the ads that show up on eschergirls more than comic books)) and i have a lot of thoughts about the brand of folk who call this type of thing disrespectful. namely that I'm pretty certain most of them 1. arnt professional artists or are Very new at it, and or, 2.have some weird hangups about art as like a concept that they need to get over instead of making it other people's problems.

NO BUT FR. YOU CANNOT COUNT THE AMOUNT OF TIMES I'VE SEEN PPL DRAW RHYS LIKE A WOMAN YOU'D SEE ON @/ESCHERGIRLS.
rhys is like . just a completely average mantwink in tftbl i could go to downtown boston and find 30 20-somethings that look exactly like him crawling around the financial district. i don’t know where people got the hyperfeminine rhys from, he looks like he could get hammered off of two cans of beer

OK, WOW.
@staff You are hiding my thoroughly community-labeled and entirely innocent legitimate tasteful artwork FROM ME.
I made this post with my alternate account, @rubyjones https://www.tumblr.com/rubyjones/718320702296555520/ruinous-attraction-cover-art-progress/
It contains a tasteful drawing of a nude embrace in which no private parts are visible. It is firmly within your TOS. I labelled is as Mature and having Sexual Themes to be on the safe side, because I am responsible, not because sex is actually going on - it's not!
Yet I cannot see my post in my own feed.
By going to the post on my other blog directly I was able to reblog it to ask my followers if they could see it. But I can't see the reblog either.
I've seen @eschergirls have the same issue.
Whatever you've changed in your algorithm has gone SERIOUSLY wrong. What is the point of having community labels if you then hide posts from people who have set their settings to show mature content??
I'm really sad people won't get to see the culmination of over a year of work.
[Edit:] OK, weirdly, it showed after i posted this. Maybe they are doing extra scanning on images labelled mature?? If so, it takes a looooong time.
[Edit 2:] Hahaha, guess what just popped up at the top pf the post - just under the community label:
Tumblr media
I'm screaming. I have requested a 'second review' in the hopes that a human will see this and realise how broken their system is.

Y'know.... I know @eschergirls was started to bring awareness to sexism in the comic industry present in how they draw women characters....
But it's really helped my outlook on art.
People, in general, are not as hard pressed about the anatomy of my drawings as I am. As long as it looks good, and nothing looks really weird at first glance, it's probably fine if things aren't 100% properly aligned.
To be clear, I am thinking more along the lines of it being okay if a character's neck would be abnormally long if they were standing up straight because you wanted to be able to show more of the face, and less about the broken/rubber spine syndrome women develop to be able to show T&A. But the same principle applies to both.

A redraw of the Lady Death wrap around cover, inspired by eschergirls. Changed lady death’s pose to not have her neck twisted 180 degrees.

I saw this screencap rolling around Twitter so I decided to take a crack at demystifying what’s going on in the anatomy here. Swivel waist, pelvis a mile wide, wait what the heck is going on with her knee? Why does it look so... curved? And what is that calf?
First, I drew the blue line to show the centerline of her body - ribcage pointing to the left of the image, SUDDEN SWIVEL HIP, pelvis pointing to the right. Poor spine. (Also offered an alternative to the clown boot.)
Onto the analysis. So immediately we can see that her hips are shaped... funky. I don’t even know how to describe this. But based on her overall body type, the iliac crests (top of the pelvis) shouldn’t be too far below her skin - except, that places her hips in very different locations. CONCLUSION: Wildly asymmetric pelvis.
The femurs? You can see the outlines of her quads, which gives us a hint about where the femurs are, and again, the great trochanter shouldn’t be far from the skin. Except! Those two points are way out of alignment with the pelvis. CONCLUSION: Wonky femurs.
The line on the right knee indicates the bottom of the femur. So the kneecap should be just below there... but wait, that knee keeps bending for quite some time, well below the armor boss. CONCLUSION: Two right knees.
And her right calf? Either every day is Right Leg Day, or her tibia is shaped like a Cupid’s bow. Since this is a skeletal analysis, I’ll go with the skeletal explanation (and because I think it’s funny.) CONCLUSION: Wibbly leg!
In the last pic, I took this skeleton and used it, and the contours of the original, to sketch her standing straight up. Please click for fullview. I think it’s beautiful.

@bad-comic-art posted a cropped version of this panel recently. A lot has been said about it, mostly in regards to Starfire’s breasts that don’t appear to be attached to her body and her waist. A couple really great fixes have been posted, too. But I wanted to post the whole thing so I could point out a few...less noticeable sins.
Starfire’s hand is a claw. I won’t blame anyone for not touching that, hands are hard.
Her forehead is huge
her thigh curves in a way that thighs do not curve
On one leg the high point of the boot is on the front of her leg while on the other it’s on the side (I can’t believe this one wasn’t fixed before it went to print, it’s glaring at me, and such a simple fix)
Her - and this is the big reason I posted the full panel- her legs are not the same length
It’s hard to tell, but her extended leg behind Red Hood and Arsenal doesn’t appear to have a foot, it looks more like a hoof
Red Hood’s chest is concave
the shading on Red Hood’s knees and calves make him look like he has goat legs
Red Hood’s clothes cling perfectly to his legs but they also don’t, making his leg shape look really weird
Arsenal’s arms are larger than his head. Archery doesn’t give you muscles like that. Archery gives you back muscles.
Yeah. Just a few.

When you gotta go you gotta go. >_>
I feel like this picture has one really obvious caption, but I'm curious what others come up with.
So let's do a caption contest!  What's she doing/saying?  What's happening?  Be creative!
Captions can be submitted here through reblog or reply, on the main site using Disqus, or through email at [email protected]!
Funniest/most creative captions win! I'll pick the winners in 2 weeks.  Winners can choose a prize if they want (from extra Steam codes I've collected over the years) but you don't have to claim a prize if you just want to participate for fun!
Good luck everybody!

Did a redraw for the D&D Arcane cards cover.
I think the original one has either a Yennefer or a yuan-ti situation going on but her torso was way too long and bends strange. The face was strange and disproportionate too, and the hairstyle made little sense. I also don’t quite understand what is going on with the clothes, there are just so many layers and they aren’t really held up by anything.
Anyway, I tried to make her look like a high ranking wizard, gave her a spellbook and a component pouch, and an elegant gown while keeping the colours, design elements.
