Fëanorian caffeine habits

Fëanor: does not consume caffeinated beverages, is an ass about it. Still only needs 0-3 hours sleep a night.

Maedhros: black drip coffee but only because he can't be bothered to think about other options. Tips generously.

Maglor: tries a new fancy drink every day. Gives unsolicited review of it to whoever is around. Tips generously, expects to be adored for it.

Celegorm: drinks some weird coffee substitute like dandelion root and makes a big deal of how much better it is. Makes it himself.

Caranthir: 8 cups of very strong black tea, no milk no sugar. Brews it himself because no one else gets it right. Orders the tea special from across the Ered Luin. Complains incessantly when he has to drink subpar tea.

Curufin: fancy pourover when he's having it to stay, otherwise downs an espresso (with sugar but don't tell) in one sip at the counter and walks out. Does not interact with staff, does not tip (why should he subsidize their wages? Not his problem.)

Amrod: iced latte all year round. Bypasses the tip option (by accident?), says, "oh whoops, sorry, next time!"

Amras: glares at Amrod when he doesn't tip, then stares at the menu before ordering the same thing he always does (Americano with room for cream). Tips extra to compensate for Amrod.

Democratically elected Fëanorian Return Order

Last week, I did these polls to determine (assuming the Feanorians can/will/may return to Valinor, either from Mandos or, in Maglor’s case, from wherever he is, alive or not) their order of return, considering their crimes and their trauma. I did one for which one would return first and which would return last in order to calculate their return order most accurately by adding the two together. Each percent point on the "first" poll gives a positive point and each point on the "last" poll a negative point, resulting, in theory, on a score for each of them between 100 and -100.

While there were deviations from the final result in the individual polls, the overall final result seems to be pretty much the consensus I have seen in the fandom.

Notes:

- It was left to the judgement of the voter how Maglor would return, whether from Mandos or Middle-Earth or something else. I felt that assuming he died after the first age would take away the trauma but also potential healing of his wanderings? He is a complex case, okay. He can die whenever you think he dies, and he can also not die and return by ship, so in his case, again, I just specified that he would return.

- I think a lot of people might have voted for Amrod when they meant Amrod and Amras return together. It was actually difficult to decide what to do with the twins - I did want them as separate options and didn't want to skew the data by including both separate options and one that lumped them together, so in the graph, I am including them together as well, using their average.

Here are the results of the first and last polls and the calculated final score:

Fëanor: 4 - 54 = -50

Maedhros: 6 - 20 = -14

Maglor: 11 - 6 = 5

Celegorm: 1 - 14 = -13

Caranthir: 29 - 0 = 29

First impression: same as maedhros, i didn't think that much about the feanorians at first ngl. i think if i had known about the fandom before i read it i would have been more attentive but i had 0 interaction with any other tolkien fans before i read it

Impression now: he's so tragic. i think he's the most tragic out of his brothers.

How do you actually translate Ar-Feiniel in Witcher's context?

As elves trace their lineage & anything after aep is usually their mother's &/or father's name (or both, as in case of Avallac'h), I bastardized Caranthir's second name as "of Feiniel's house." However, that's just me & has 0% linguistic credibility in either Tolkien's or Sapkowski's universe. To my knowledge though, neither the prefix Ar nor Feiniel mean anything in Elder Speech.

In Tolkien, Ar-Feiniel is the other name for Aredhel. Aredhel Ar-Feiniel, Aredhel the White Lady (of the Noldor). And considering Caranthir's creation story in TW3, I always found the notion of giving him a connection to Aredhel interesting. Aredhel's tale is one of the more uncomfortabe ones & VERY in the vein of the Witcher (If you don't know, search for Eöl & "It is not said that Aredhel was wholly unwilling."). She also mothers Maeglin. And Maeglin's, well, ...

After seeing that which feanorion is least trans poll i want to elaborate on my gender/sexuality headcannons for the finweans so lest go! Feanorions first.

Maedhros: he/they/she. ive said before that i HC Mae as having kleinfelter syndrome and i think part of the reason he's considered to be so striking in appearance is because instead of having the genderless androgyny of most elves he sort of expresses both extremes of gender at all times. He does not identify as genderfluid before his death. Very much understands that Something is up but hahaha we dont have time to unpack that. Also very much feels beholden to the identity of feanors *Eldest Son* and his identity as Heir. After rebirth they default to they for a while but eventually become comfortable enough to really enbrace their fluidity.

Maglor: ... i am so sorry but he is Extremely cishet imo. Very bohemian about it, definitely has Tried it all but came to the conclusion that no he is a man and he likes women in the end. Very much a wife guy. HOWEVER, it is important to me that almost everyone assumes he's gay or trans because he is deeply flamboyant.

Celegorm: he's cis insofar as he's not trans. I legitimately think in modern au he would have a fursona and he would consider that his gender, extremely based of him. Very bisexual but not at all romantically inclined. Also he only uses the bi label so he can clapback at people.

Caranthir: Agender, Asexual, Aromantic. Has got 0 time for any of that. Knows he's triple A but cannot be bothered to change pronouns or correct people so uses mostly he. This is regardless of his agab because i think he looks pretty similar to his brothers and so ppl usually assume he's male. He is married but its a queer platonic situation and he has a similar relationship with Haleth.

Curufin: He takes after his father, bisexual man. It makes 0 difference if he is trans or cis imo because i think he has always identified as such and was raised male pretty much as soon as he was able to verbalise his identity. Shocking lack of identity crisis in any situation, very secure in his identity to the point of being well... a bit of a dick to those who are less confident.

Amrod: Pansexual aro af. Doesn't really differentiate his attraction to others between platonic or sexual but also doesn't really care for romantic relationships. He is a cis man but he's also a theatre kid and thinks drag is very fun and absolutely an art style.

Amras: is panromantic and asexual. He is almost comically romantic. He absolutely finds The One like every 6 moths and is absolutely devastated every time it doesn't work out. Actually writes romance novels and even bodice rippers but finds real life sex to be gross messy and deeply awkward so he sticks to fiction. Is Cisn't. Like he's a man most of the time but he gets Too In Character sometimes and will occasionally just switch gender until she's finished her next book and then go back.

he spies celestial bodies without names , each one a compendium of unwritten stories ( different times / different places ) , and knows that they remain on course . caranthir lowers the sextant and fastens it to the belt at his hip , gloved fingers nimble despite the weight of iron armour . it is late –– though within this cosmic rift it is always early , timely , late / yesterday , today , tomorrow –– and there are not many crew - mates left upon the deck . for his own purposes , sleep rarely graces him with its presence . ( a thousand years he could stand like this , his heart a ridge of mountains / a songbird of this wild place . ) it seems that the witcher is not so different .
