C!Venti belongs to me

I saw an ask that said Kinger does audience participation acts that typically don’t go well and decided to write a little fic about my Freak/Audience sona being called upon to participate.

As soon as Kinger came on stage, Audienti groaned, or they would’ve if they could make any noise as they were at the moment, their abstracted eyes rolled in a circle and the smile plastered on their face fell ever so slightly. It wouldn't do to look bored at the moment, the rest of the audience would take notice and they really didn’t want to get torn asunder at the moment, so they didn’t immediately get up and leave.

Honestly, a magician in a place like this, a digital realm where almost anything is possible, it was almost laughably unfair to the freak, how could his silly little sleight of hand tricks compare to the likes of what Caine, as vile and sickening as he was, could do?

Truly his performances were only a little entertaining when Ragatha was in on it, and judging from the apprehension on Kinger’s face, Ragatha would likely not star in today's show, a true pity.

Half listening, the hare held no surprise when Kinger asked for an audience member to participate, he always seemed to be somewhat more aware and fearful when he had to do that. Audienti hadn’t the slightest clue as to why Caine allowed or asked for these kinds of events, they always ended the same, ragdoll and chess pieces thrown across the stage after the chosen participant failed to follow through with the ‘partition’.

They understood why, the desire to rip those digital avatars apart was a strong one indeed, and it was very rare such an opportunity arose when it came to the magician and his assistant, but for ONCE couldn't they at least play along and complete the magic trick before going feral? Was that truly too much to ask for?

At least if that happened then there would be something new in seeing the two freaks look relieved that things finally worked out before being brutalized.

Suddenly, a blinding spotlight shone on Audienti, they flinched from it and mentally snarled, of course they had to sit right beside the one chosen to participate-

“You! With the long ears! You look bored so why not see the magic close up?” Caine called out.

Audienti froze, eyes widening as they realized that it was them who was chosen to participate. They glanced around at the rest of the audience, all of them staring right at them… waiting, eager…

One part of them wanted to refuse, to shake their head and sit back down, to ‘graciously’ give one of their seat mates the spotlight. Another part of them wanted to run down to the stage on all fours and tear Ragatha and Kinger apart and decorate the stage with their entrails.

Yet another part of them was trembling in fear as they moved against their own will, casually making their way to the stage, spotlight following, terror threatened to choke them, tears dared to well in their eyes, a whimper would’ve escaped them if possible… they glanced at Caine but quickly looked away before they could really see his expression.

Their other self, the beast, the broken bird, Frenti, pushed against their skin from the inside, threatening to rip them apart and break free, one heart turned to two and the twin beating would’ve drowned everything out if not for the fact that Audienti had better hearing than most of the carnival.

They stood in front of Kinger, struggling to breathe with four lungs as Ragatha instructed them to step into a box.

They almost, just almost, shook their head, but it was like one of the twins' ribbons caught their neck, and so they nodded instead and stepped inside. The door closed behind them and suddenly the voices outside were gone.

Disgust and revulsion crawled over Audienti’s body as they sat in the box, their multiplied organs threatened to burst from their body, Frenti’s mind pushed against theirs, normally if they were here while a show was on their other self couldn’t take control, but it seemed that now that they were part of the act… that was no longer the case.

The hare suddenly pressed a paw to their chest when their ribs shattered under the relentless pressure of their frantic double hearts and four lungs, a strangled cry escaping them as bone tore out of skin and every nerve times two screamed in agony as their entire body shifted around and spat them out, replacing the mimic with the beast.

For a few brief moments, Audienti and Frenti’s minds were one in the same.

The world unraveled as memories returned, this was all a game, digital VR, a wonderful circus for all ages, beta testing, a virus the likes of which did not seem natural, talk of ghosts and curses, bodies lined in beds, patches and patches, troubleshooting, there was supposed to be another game loaded the headset wasn’t supposed to run The Amazing Digital Circus, they weren’t supposed to be here, oh GOD this looked so much more tame on the screen, get the headset off get it off-

The door to the box was opened, Ragatha and Kinger stared in horror at the grizzly sight within.

Two skeletons, fused together, sat in a pile of gore and viscera, as if the audience member inside had exploded, and when the door opened the ‘explosion’ rocketed out and went as far as splattering members of the audience, who began to laugh, boo, and even scream.

Caine narrowed his eyes, but graciously floated over and jabbed the sharp end of his cane through the right skull of the unfortunate victim, finally granting them the temporary release of death. He supposed this torture was punishment enough for Frenti’s failure to play their part, after all, he had techincally called upon Audenti, not Frenti.

You: He makes me laugh and has a beautiful voice that can convince me to do anything?

Traveller: Including paying his drinking bill and leaving Dragonspine for more than a few days

You:... Paying his bills sometimes. Leaving Dragonspine, not so much.

(If you're wondering, yes, you did find Venti. And no it wasn't in Angel's Share. He was stuck in a tree, and it wasn't easy getting him down but when you did, you were met with many kisses on the cheek and a drunken love confession from him.)

I've been up way too late but I wrote a tiny bit more of a oneshot for the fae AU I posted about. No clue when this will actually be finished so have an excerpt, lol.

"May I have your name?"

The breeze gently brushed against his skin. It raised goosebumps.

"...It's Venti."

"How lovely! Thanks!" the spirit chirped.

The bard's mouth went dry. He choked, the air within his throat coming to life and pulling at something that shouldn't be pulled. Something deep within him snapped off like a twig being ripped from a tree in a storm, vanishing in the spirit's direction, leaving a hole he'd previously never noticed was filled.

He felt very cold.

"Well, then, allow me to introduce myself," the spirit giggled, "now that you've so generously gifted me material."

Glowing strands of breeze coalesced around it into a sphere, obscuring it from view. It grew and grew in size and intensity, forcing the bard to shield his face, until it was larger than even him. Then it unravelled, the strands peeling off and evaporating into the sky.

The spirit smiled, newly formed hands toying with faintly teal braids and brushing a leaf off of his shorts. The same shorts the bard wore.

"I'm Venti!"

The bard spluttered. "But you're not- I- I'm-"

Why couldn't he finish the sentence?

The spirit's smile widened into something sharp and predatory.

"You're nobody! You just gave me yourself, remember? Don't worry, I'll take good care of it for you."

The bard didn't know what to say. Venti's unblinking gaze, eyes softly glowing teal and green like the woods around them, pierced through the bard's own. He shivered. He couldn't look away.

"Why don't you sleep for a while?"

As his legs gave out and his vision faded, he finally understood the warnings about the wind.

If I had a nickel for every time I was in a fandom where Christianity did not exist but somehow characters had functional Christian guilt, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice..

This is referring to Genshin where for some reason worship of Barbatos follows Christian conventions (nuns wearing habits, Christian style worship, cross iconography, ‘sins’ like alcoholism being punished- ironic with how Venti behaves, and other things I’ve probably forgot).

Barbara and Jean are so interesting to me, they both are religious (the only characters having crucifixes in their clothes and Barbara being the literal deaconess, both daughters of the Seneschal), and there is clear conflict between the restrictive practices of the Church compared to how Barbatos actually wants his people to have freedom (a nice nod to actual Christian doctrine vs practice). Also the implications of Jean actually meeting Barbatos are so interesting, I wish they were explored more fully.

The second (or first, I was in this fandom before) was the dream SMP, where Church Prime & the Holy Lands were a repeated part of the storyline, with worship and even exorcisms being included. This lead to a lot of C!Tommy designs with crucifixes or rosaries, because the Church prime also had Christian iconography (the cross, pews etc.).

Anyway I love franchises having faux Christian influences (even if they’re like some animes like evangelion and death note which literally only have them for aesthetic purposes which I find hilarious) especially if characters are portrayed with pseudo-Christian guilt, I will eat that sort of portrayal up every time.

THE GRAND POLLS SHOWDOWN OF WONDERCON 2023

Had a blast from tabling at my first Wondercon with some friends, and we did a poll each day to see people’s fave character. The final showdown win between Venti and Wanderer was made possible by all of the Scaramouche/Wanderer cosplayers who came by repeatedly to illegally add votes check on the polls lol. The bottom two doodles were the freebie stickies given out at the con as thanks to the attendees for doing their civic duty. XD

C!Venti also known as Frenti (Freak Venti) and Audienti (Audience Venti) feelings towards the rest of the cast under the cut

Caine

Frenti: Terrified of, hates, no words exist that can describe the hatred they feel for this horrid AI who has caused them so much pain and suffering. When they first appeared Frenti lashed out and attacked Caine constantly before being put in their place. Absolutely cannot stand being alone with him, but listens to him perfectly.

Audienti: The strong dislike is still there, but it’s different, rather than a seriously personal hatred, Audienti hates Caine like how one would hate a diseased rat, he makes them feel icky, filthy, stretched, warped, wrong, and unclean. Only his power prevents them from attacking, that and the rest of the audience wouldn’t like it if they put a stop to him.

Kinger

Frenti: Oh god what the fuck get that thing away from me I don’t like it’s eyes or how it’ll yell randomly or how it shakes ugh ugh bad no I am cowering in a corner like a cat reacting to a vacuum cleaner. Do not put them together, anxiety beast hare reacts poorly to twitchy chess piece that yells out of nowhere.

Audienti: Boooorrrring, boring boring boring! Yawning, booing, 0/10 stars, I’ve seen Caine do more interesting ‘magic tricks’

Ragatha

Frenti: Soft and nice, would like to hug, trailing after like a puppy, doesn’t like tea but will drink some for her. Definitely feeding off of Ragatha’s ‘motherly’ vibes.

Audienti: Liked her better as an acrobat, but the cleaver in the face all the time gets her points. She’s hardy, fun to watch her hurt, didn’t taste very good that one time Caine deep fried her, wonders if she has a candy heart and if they can eat it.

Gangle and AI Gangle

Frenti: Sad friend! Deserves better, has a terrible sister who scares me, wants to cut them apart so maybe Gangle will be happy, scary when her sisters mask breaks, hovers too close, not a fan.

Audienti: Similar dislike as they have for Caine, only somehow both more and less intense depending on if it’s AI Gangle or Gangle, finds their shtick boring and finds AI Gangle’s puppetering too stiff to enjoy how morbid it is.

Klaufmo

Frenti: Get that the fuck away from me, oh god what if it makes me abstract?! Jesus Christ I hate it, AI Gangle you suck! Will cower in one corner of the stage if forced to perform with ‘Klaufmo’ and Jax isn’t also there.

Audienti: Even more disturbed by ‘him’, oh god what the fuck this is more disgusting and unnerving than Caine and Ai Gangle get it the FUCK off the stage NOW.

Jax

Frenti: Indignation over how he’s taller than them despite rabbits being smaller than hares, even though he’s a dick the fact that he’s similar to them (Rabbit and Hare) is comforting. He looks huggable but isn’t and that’s upsetting… I want to play with him, why won’t he let me groom him that’s so rude!

Audienti: Favourite performer ever since Ragatha stopped being an acrobat, likes how similar he feels to them, fun to ‘play’ with too! Hard to catch but when caught he makes the best expressions because he rarely makes them. This is my blorbo I like watching them suffer.

Zooble

Frenti AND Audienti: WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG NOPE NOPE NOPE IT HURTS TO LOOK AT THEM CANNOT COMPREHEND WHAT I’M SEEING THE CODE IS WRONG!

Pomni

Frenti: Doesn’t want to hurt or scare at all, tiny pretty delicate doll girl, enamoured by, very fond of, please don’t be scared of me I want to be friends! How can someone so harmless be in a place like this! I will fight anyone (minus Caine) who hurts her!

Audienti: …. Complicated feelings, her performances aren’t the kind of thing I like, she’s just a pretty doll, not scary or creepy looking, too pathetic to really enjoy the suffering of… I… don’t like it when she suffers, it makes me feel bad to see her breakdown on stage, her dancing is… nice… For some reason this feels right even if it’s… boring.

Bubble

Frenti and Audienti: Bubble.

Frenti at current time is simple and kinda feral, they used to be more human but overtime they’ve sort of reverted mentally bc of what’s been done to them. Audienti is a good example of the smarts and creativity Frenti originally had, just twisted and morbid.

Every time, there is a festival in Mondstadt, (especially Windblume) Venti drags you from Dragonspine to the city, to celebrate and drink, (also to force you to socialize with other people).

You don't really like leaving Dragonspine or being in the sun, but you do it because you love him (and he gave you more apples than usual around this time)
