Fluent Freshman - Part 24
PREVIOUS
“What do you MEAN Smithy is in the hospital with a stab wound to his stomach?!” Nicky’s own voice is agony for his hangover but honestly, how the fuck else was he supposed to respond when he had asked Andrew where FF was and gotten that as a response.
“Calm down.” Andrew says and he looks tired, looks stressed, and maybe even just…a touch nervous?
Nicky isn’t as good as Neil at reading Andrew Minyard. He doesn’t think anyone will ever be as fluent in the language of Andrew Minyard as Neil Josten but Nicky has picked up some key phrases.
He can see when he’s making a joke that is a step too far. He can see when his cousin wants to kiss Neil but is holding back. He can see when his cousin is stressed.
He can see a guilty curve to Andrew’s spine.
“Andrew, answer me honestly, did you stab my sweet baby freshman?” Nicky asks and he’s not sure if the nausea he feels anymore is from horror or from the sheer number of drinks he had put in his system the night before.
Roland usually cuts him off before he gets this level.
Roland also has a habit of pouring heavier when he’s stressed.
Roland also also tends to make complicated fruity drinks that Nicky likes when he’s stressed.
Andrew’s jaw tenses but it’s Neil who speaks up, “It was an accident. It happened during a fight.” Neil says and Nicky throws his hands up in the air.
“You got into a FIGHT with my sweet baby freshman? Sweet little Smithy? The boy who made brownies that made me feel kinda straight for a dead woman?!” Nicky exclaims and sees Andrew and Neil open their mouths to say something but, “I promised him that if he wanted I’d get him something hard that’d mess his GUTS up but this isn’t what I MEANT.” He lets himself collapse dramatically over the table.
“Nicky, shut up!” Kevin hisses from his spot on the couch.
“When the fuck did Kevin get here?!” Because seriously, how fucked up was Nicky last night that he doesn’t remember Kevin coming on this Columbia trip? Where’d he sit? He couldn’t really remember coming over after Thanksgiving. Had Andrew put Kevin in the trunk? Had Andrew put Nicky in the trunk?
“He came with Wymack.” Neil cut in before Nicky started testing reality. “Wymack is at the hospital since he’s…uh…he’s the…”
“Medical Power of Attorney” Andrew answers.
“Yes! Thank you, the Medical power of attorney for Smith. He needed surgery and Wymack wanted to be nearby in case he had to make any pressing decisions.” Neil explains and yeah that tracks, he knows a little bit about FF’s family and knows that aside from his grandma on his dad’s side the rest can go take a long walk off a short volcano observation platform
“Okay, that explains why Kevin is here….how?! Despite all of the unwarranted advice, Kevin is not a medical professional.” Nicky says before turning to Kevin, “So Kevin, what insane Exy-related reason are you here? Don’t lie and say it’s because you want to sign the get well soon card.” He hisses.
“Fuck you!” Kevin spits, “I need to know how long Smiths is going to be out of commission and what his PT is going to look like. He was supposed to be starting during the spring season.” Kevin growls.
“There it is!” Nicky throws up his hands.
“Nicky, just calm down!” Neil pleads.
“How can I stay calm? Andrew stabbed Smithy! So not only is my favorite freshman in the hospital Andrew’s going to end up back on those god forsaken meds again!” Nicky shouts and buries his face in his hands.
“Smith isn’t going to say that.” Andrew’s voice is calm but Nicky can hear the slight edge.
“Oh yeah?” Nicky asks because he could see FF promising to never mention who stabbed him if Andrew would just spare his life. FF was going to be even MORE of a disaster when it came to his anxiety around Andrew. Nicky wouldn’t be surprised if his friend just straight up dropped out after this. His cousin is safe but he’s absolutely going to lose his friend.
“Because he’s saying Romero Malcolm stabbed him.” Andrew finishes.
Nicky sits up.
“Wait, what?” Nicky asks.
“Last night Romero Malcolm was at Eden’s.” Neil says voice even in a way that lets Nicky know that he’s trying to stay calm, “Smith recognized him, heard he wanted to grab,” Neil swallows thickly, “…grab one of my friends and saw them looking at…” Neil trails off and looks to Andrew who shakes his head, “…around for someone to grab.” Neil seems to decide and Nicky knows when something is being hidden from him but he’s more interested in the story than what Neil is hiding at the moment, “He got Romero’s attention so that he wouldn’t do anything bad in Eden’s and let Roland know to call help. He went out alone into the alley but Romero didn’t follow him.” Neil explains.
“Oh thank god.” Nicky sighs.
“Because he’d alerted Jackson Plank was lying in wait to ambush him.” Neil continues.
“Oh dear god.” Nicky exclaims.
“He uh…” Neil looks to Andrew who shakes his head again, “okay we don’t know exactly HOW Smith managed to do it but he beat Jackson up pretty bad.” Neil explains.
Nicky feels his brain stop working.
He has watched FF trip over his own feet, walk into four different trees, and almost sprain his ankle walking across a flat surface. He knows FF has been watching self-defense videos and had even gotten some pointers from Matt but even Matt had told him his better bet was probably just to yell “WOW WHAT’S THAT OVER THERE?!”, point behind the attacker, and run as fast as humanly possible away from a fight.
Neil is still talking.
Nicky boots back up quickly.
“…a gun. He tackled Romero into Andrew and Andrew’s knife ended up in Smith’s stomach on accident while they were wrestling for the gun. Smith is the one who said he’s going to tell everyone who asks that it was Romero. He even said it to me.” Neil says with an awkward laugh.
“And you believed him.” Andrew says and there’s warmth in his cousin’s eyes as he looks at Neil and teases him.
“And I believed him.” Neil confirms.
“Okay, so you swear to me that you did not INTENTIONALLY stab my BFF?” Nicky asks looking at Andrew seriously.
“BFF, seriously?” Kevin asks.
“Best Freshman Friend.” Nicky answers quickly, “Don’t worry Kevin, you lose out to Matt in all regards for my Best Senior Friend.” He says.
Kevin just flips him off but Nicky turns his attention back to Andrew, “Andrew, I need to hear it.” He says .
“I did not intentionally stab Smith.” Andrew confirms.
Nicky lets the horrified nausea leave him with only his hangover nausea.
“Okay, we can work with that.”  Nicky leans back. “Have you heard from that Agent?” he asks looking at Neil.
Neil nods but then looks nervous and shoots a look towards Kevin, “The FBI is sending Browning and a field office agent to talk with us but…Ichirou also contacted me.” He says and Nicky watches as Kevin perks up.
“He did?!” Kevin squawks looking around like he expected the head of the Moriyama family to appear from the shadows.
“He wants to make sure we do our part to keep the Moriyama name out of this. He is going to deal with Romero and Jackson himself.” Neil says looking nervous.
Nicky clenches his eyes shut, “Well you’re not going to mention them right?” he hears Kevin ask.
“Of course not Kevin.” Nicky hears Andrew hiss.
“Good.” Kevin says.
There’s silence in the wake of Neil’s statement.
Nicky takes a deep breath and wishes his head was a little less agonizing. “Why aren’t we at the hospital to see Smithy?” he asks because he has nothing he can do about Ichirou so he may as well put it out of his mind.
There is some grumbling.
“Wymack said that he’ll just make us sit in the waiting room without any updates.” Neil says. “We’re picking up Smith’s grandma from the airport and she’s our ticket to getting an actual update beyond ‘not dead yet’ from Wymack.” He adds.
“What, you really can’t get updates without Wymack?” Nicky asks.
Andrew looks at Nicky and Nicky can’t read a single thing his cousin is thinking.
“What’s Smith’s first name Nicky.” Andrew asks.
“Oh God fucking Dammit.” Nicky’s head hurts too bad for this.

Comfort
Tumblr media
Bucky x GN!Reader
Description: three instances of Bucky associating someone stroking his hair with comfort.
Warnings: fluff and angst, mentions of illness, period-accurate toxic masculinity, mentions of nightmares, no y/n used, only pronoun used is "you"
A/N: this is based on something I wrote for my self indulgent self-insert OC Juniper, where Bucky tells them the story of the first two memories and then decided I wanted to also do an x Reader with a similar idea.
-------------------------------------------------------
1930
One time, when Bucky was young, he was hit with an awful bout of illness. He felt like there was a hundred pound weight on his chest, and he couldn’t stop coughing. Steve kept trying to sneak in to go see his friend, but would be shooed away before he could actually see his friend. Rebecca, Bucky’s little sister, would slip notes from her and Steve under his door as often as she could, trying to remind him he wasn’t alone. One night, when his sickness got real bad, his mother came in to sit up with him. Since it was the Depression, she would be up pretty much every night working on sewing alterations until her fingers cramped and bled. But tonight, she was staying with her Baby Boy. She rubs Vick’s on his chest in hopes of soothing the cough, and sits by his bedside. When Bucky’s coughing gets so bad that he can’t fall asleep, she sits on the mattress next to him, running their fingers through his hair until he falls asleep. She saw how much it soothed him, and from then on whenever he was sick she would stay with him, running her fingers through her son’s hair to calm him.
1942
Bucky was an adult now, dressed in a soldier’s uniform and trying to pretend he was proud of that. He’d just gotten home from the Stark Expo, and found that his mother and sister had stayed up to wait for him. Rebecca hugs her brother goodbye before heading to bed, but Bucky and Winnefred stay up late talking. During the conversation everything hits him at once. He’d spent the entire day forcing a smile and pretending to be brave, being strong in front of his date, of Steve, of anyone who saw him and saw a young man ready to take on the world and fight for his country.
When in reality?
He’s been terrified ever since he learned he was drafted.
He broke down in front of his mother, telling her that he’s not ready, that he’s scared, and that he hates that he’s scared. That he’s a coward. But his mother shakes her head, and hugs her son tight. She doesn’t tell him to “man up” or that he needs to “get ahold of himself”, just held him and assured him that it’s okay, that he’s not a coward, that he’s not weak for being afraid. She took him back to his bedroom, getting him settled under the covers and sitting at his bedside, stroking his hair the same way she did when he was young.
“Rest now, James,” she whispered, brushing his hair out of his eyes, “you don’t have to be strong tonight…”
Now
Bucky woke up screaming, drenched in sweat. He tried to take deep breaths, to calm himself down, but the nightmares that had forced him awake still ravaged his subconscious.
“Bucky?” He whipped around to see you, eyes tired but still filled with concern, “are you alright, Baby?”
“Yeah,” he gasped out, running a hand through his hair, “yeah, yeah, I'm…I-I’m…”
“Oh,” you cooed, wrapping your arms around him and laying your head on his back, “oh Sweetheart…”
You hugged him close, and pressed a kiss to his shoulder.
“Can you feel my breath?” You asked, running your fingers along his stomach. Bucky nodded, “good, Buck. Can you follow my breathing?”
He matched your breaths as best he can, and you held him until he calmed down. Once his breathing evened out, you pressed another kiss to the crook of his neck and smiled softly.
“What do you need to feel better, Sweet Boy?” You asked, “what do you need to go back to sleep?”
Bucky chewed his lip for a moment, trying to decide. His mind drifted to his youth, to his mother carding her fingers through his hair and the feeling of serenity it brought him.
“M-my hair,” he murmured. You looked confused, “will you stroke my hair for a bit?”
He didn't give you a chance to respond.
“Sorry,” Bucky's blue eyes wouldn't meet theirs, “that sounds stupid, but my Ma used to do it when I was younger but–”
“Shhhh,” you slid in front of him, “it's not stupid. Of course I'll stroke your hair.”
His blue eyes met yours, relief flooding his gaze.
“Lay back down, Sweetheart,” he settled himself on top of you, laying his head on your chest and listening to your heartbeat. You cradled his head against your body, running your fingers through his dark hair. His eyes were already starting to feel heavy, and he nuzzled into your neck, a little hum escaping him.
“Get some rest, Bucky,” you pressed a kiss to the top of his head as he started to give in to sleep, “I love you.”
The same feeling of serenity overtook him, and Bucky drifted off in his partner's arms.

“And you know what? Even if you are only 8, I’m sure Pops isn’t going to turn you away. He’s gonna love you, Reader. You are just that darn adorable.”
She digs her head in his shoulder.
He snickers, feeling her face hearing up
“Aww. You’re so cute, you know that? What happened to the bold rascal?” he teases, gently stroking her head and hair.
The only response he receives is a gentle swat from her tail
Ace laughs even more.
“Aww, is that your way of saying you’re shy? “he says, pulling her closer.
“And a bit of a brat, aren’t you? Don’t think I missed that tail swat. But I can’t stay mad at such a cutie, now can I?” Thatch snickers, ruffling her hair
“Hmm... I need to bring you to Pops. You’re getting clingy already.”
She gasps and shoots up
“Am not!”
Ace laughs a bit.
“Are too!” he says, playfully poking her nose.
She pouts
Thatch grins at their interaction and gestures to Ace, who nods slightly; he approaches the girl slowly and suddenly digs his fingers in her.
She shrieks as he starts tickling her as she tries to wriggle out of Ace’s grasp
Thatch laughs loudly at seeing her struggling.
“Heh.. that’s adorable,”
She begins flapping her wings, getting out of his grasp, and flies up and out of the Storage room, giggling
“H-Hey, come back here.”
She laughs, looking back at them as they try to catch up to her, a similar emotion on their faces; as they chase her, she fails to notice where she is going, crashing right into someone.
“Ow, So…rry?” she begins, but her words die out as she sees who she crashed into, as right in front of her was a man the size of a mountain.
She wraps her wings around herself, coiling her tail around her body in a similar manner as she tries to hide from the man in front of her in fear.
The man is none other than Whitebeard himself, looking down at the young stowaway.
“Hm... who are you?” he asks, glancing at the men who run and stop behind her.
Ace laughs, pointing at her.
“We found her below deck. She says her name’s Reader. Looks like she was exploring before we happened upon her. Probably didn’t even know she was on our ship.”
She whimpers, wrapping her limbs tighter around herself until someone slowly steps closer and kneels down next to her; she takes a peek, spotting a man whose appearance reminded her of a pineapple
Marco smiles at the girl.
“Hey, kid. Don’t be scared. I’m not gonna hurt you,” he says softly in a soothing tone for her.
She stares at him but makes no movement to release her defensive stance
He approaches slowly before squatting in front of her.
“Look, I’m the first division commander of this ship. It’s fine. You’re in safe hands. And that guy you crashed into...”
He points at the big guy.
“That’s our captain. Edward Newgate, but most of us just call him Pops. He’s a real sweetheart. But he can be a bit of an intimidating when you first meet him.”
She sniffles, glancing at the man towering next to them and back to Marco, and then glances at Thatch and Ace behind her
Ace and Thatch smile, seeing her look at them.
“Don’t worry,” Ace says gently
“Pops, he’s not gonna hurt you either. No way.” Ace confirms
“Marco’s right. I know he may look intimidating, but he’s like a father to all of us; he would never hurt you,” Thatch says, backing his crewmates up
She glances back to Marco in front of her
He’s still smiling softly at her, not pushing her to come out of her defensive position.
“Do you want to come say hi to him?”
She nods, slowly unfurling herself
Marco gently grabs her hand, walking her right up to Whitebeard himself. He gently nudges her forward so she and the captain can meet each other.
She glances up at him, stretches her wing, and slowly flies up so that she is face-to-face with him
“..ny…mi…ter” she mumbles
He raises an eyebrow
“What was that?”
“You look funny, mister,” she mutters
Whitebeard laughs uproariously.
“Haha! Do I look funny? That is quite an interesting description, young lady. I mean, I suppose I look a bit weird but funny? You’re the only person to ever say that to me.” he snickers
“I like this one, bold one,” he says, glancing down at his sons
“And she’s pretty feisty, I can tell. Not too many kids can call Whitebeard funny,” Thatch adds in
“She’s one of a kind, that’s for sure,” Marco says, smiling at her
“She’s a clingy one, too,” Ace adds
This snaps her out of her shy, fear-filled state as she flies down and barrels into Ace
“Am not!”
Ace laughs, catching her.
“See, clingy!” he says teasingly.
“And a brat, can’t forget that,” Thatch scoffs.
Whitebeard laughs louder, amused by his crew’s responses
She hmph fluttering away from the pair and closer to the giant; she began buzzing around him
Whitebeard chuckles, amused by her playful behavior, as he begins playing with her, making her flutter around.
“Heh, you’re a real-spirited kid. Almost reminds me of a certain someone I know,” he says, looking over to Ace.
“Are you a dragon? You’re big like one.”
Whitebeard laughs at her question, amused by the comparison.
“No, I’m not a dragon. I’m a Human, just a very, very big one.”
“Do you know much about what a devil fruit is, kid?” he asks her
“Yeah! Mister Sabo told me about it! They give you these superb powers, right?”
Ace’s eyes widen
“Oi kid, come over here a sec.”
“Hmm?” They dive down towards the three men
“What?”
“Who did you say told you about a devil fruit?”
“Mister Sabo!”
Ace grins
“By any chance, did this Sabo tell you if he had a devil fruit?”
“Yeah! He said he had a Mera Mera fruit. I thought he was a dragon since he could make fire, but he said he wasn’t a dragon.” She pouts as she says this
“He just ate the Mera Mera and was a fireman! And it’s so funny, 'cause there was this grumpy guy called Dragon, and he wasn’t a dragon either! I was so sad,” she rambles on
Ace burst into laughter, igniting his hand on fire in a similar fashion Sabo had done back then
She looks at it and glances between the flame and Ace’s face a few times
“It’s you!”
Ace grins at her before extinguishing the flames on his hand
“It is me,” he says, confirming the little girl’s discovery
“Mister Sabo said you and him had the same mera mera fruit, which is never heard of!”
Ace nods
“Yup, that’s about right. Me and Sabo both ate a specific type of fruit known as the Mera Mera no Mi; I got really hurt a while ago, was gone for a minute there, which is why we think the mera mera appeared again, and he ate it, so now we both have it’s power” he said pointing to a big scar on his chest
“That’s so cool!” She squeals
“Ah! Are you okay? That looks like a pretty big scar!”
Ace chuckles
“I’m fine now; got seen by the best doctors to get a look at it; one of them is the guy behind you!”
She glances at Marco
“Mister Pineapple did?!”
Marco stills as her comment slight red tint growing on his face while Ace and Thatch start laughing uncontrollably; even Whitebeard lets out a snort at her exclamation
Marco sighs, shaking his head with a slight smile on his face
“Really are a little Rascal,” he mutters
“Yes, I helped patch him up a while back, used my devil fruit,” he said as his body ignited in flames
She gasps
“Did you also eat Mera Mera?”
Marco chuckles
“Not quite. I also ate a devil fruit, but unlike Sabo and Ace, I ate the Tori Tori no Mi.”
“Wah? There’s more than one type?”
“There are hundreds, if not thousands, of them. Each grants you a different power.”
“Superb! Mister Pops, what about you? What fruit did you eat?”
“Me? Well, I happen to have eaten the Gura Gura no Mi. It was a long time ago when I ate it, but it’s a very powerful one. It allows you to control earthquakes and vibrations.” Whitebeard explains with a smile on his face
“That's so cool,” they squeal
“It certainly is,” Whitebeard says, smiling.
“I can do all sorts of things with it, like this.”
He raises his hand, and a massive shockwave emanates from it, shaking the Moby Dick to its core. It even causes the little girl to fly backward into Ace’s arms.
The tiny child squeaks, her coordination being thrown off at the sudden movement
She takes a second to get her surroundings straight but marvels at Whitebeard’s display
“Haha, see what I meant? Pretty potent fruit, huh?” Whitebeard asks, seemingly pleased that the girl is so engaged by his abilities.
Ace takes this as a chance to play around with the little girl a bit, holding her and swinging her slightly as she lands in his arms.
“Ah, that reminds me, Reader, you hungry? I can prepare you something. Got you this in the meantime,” he says, throwing an apple her way
“Thank you! Here!” She says, coughing; the others look worried; their worried stares soon turn into something else as she coughs up some gold coins, offering them to Thatch
They just stare at it dumbfounded as she coughs up gold coins.
“What the hell?!” Thatch exclaims
“Watch your language around her,” Ace says, slapping the back of his head
“Why you…” he growls as they begin brawling
Reader flies above them, laughing at their interactions
“You have a wild family, Mister Pops”
Whitebeard sighs, chuckling at his son’s antics.
“Oh, you have no idea, girl,” he chuckles
Marco laughs quietly at the both of them,
“Settle down, boys,” he chides them, not moving to try and settle the argument between the two of them; as Reader continues laughing at the chaos unfolding, Whitebeard glances at her.
“Man… you’re gonna be a real handful for all of us, aren’t ya?” Whitebeard chuckles
Tumblr media
I was intending this to be a real short one but then I couldn’t find a place to stop it without it being to sudden so I just kept going I found a place I could have cut it but then I was like nah, we need more.

“You get on that plane and I’ll drop you as a client.” Jake’s voice rings out from your work phone.
“What the fuck, Jake, are you serious?!” You seethe, practically red in the face.
You have been on the phone with Jake for the last hour – Liv refuses to pick up your calls after you blew up the group chat, rehashing your argument with Jenna. Desperately pleading to fly back home because you couldn’t stand being in the same city as the actress, at the moment.
You couldn't even think about her words without it making your blood boil.
“Fuck yeah, I’m serious. Do you know what time it is here?”
Glancing at the clock it read 3:46 A.M. EST, you roll your eyes. “It’s just past midnight in L.A. You won’t die if you don’t get eight hours of sleep.”
“Be quiet. I don’t wanna hear another word from you.” He nearly shouts and you imagine that one vein popping through his forehead. You liked to stare at it when Jake goes off on his shouting tangents at you.
He never notices that you're not paying attention.
“Maybe we should get Liv on the phone or maybe Sarah?” Link glances at you worriedly.
He hates seeing you so riled up, so he often played the middle-man with your quarrels against Jake and Liv.
“Liv says she doesn’t wanna hear it. Sarah says forget it and I’m saying, I’m not fucking around this time Y/N, this is your last chance. I’m over your shit.” He hangs up the phone, leaving the line dead.
You jump face-first into the stiff bed, groaning loudly.
“Looks like you’re outta luck.” He pats you back, leaving you to sulk alone as he shuts the door. “Try to get some sleep.”
There was no way you ended up in this situation.
You guess, it was fair to acknowledge your recent streak of bad behaviour. First, it was tame — ignoring your phone, running away to party, getting mixed in the wrong crowds – eventually, Link had to start dragging you out of bed by the legs (sometimes kicking and screaming) just to make it in time for a gig.
You’re not sure when all of this started. All you knew is that you were so tired. You just wanted one second to breathe; to feel like that young child again, with hopes and dreams. But no, someone was always hovering over your shoulder ready to drag you away to another event you could care less about.
You close your eyes, allowing the jetlag and exhaustion to set in as your body moulds into the mattress.
–
The next day, you find yourself standing in front of Jenna’s hotel room. The large double door looks menacing and faintly, you can already hear a bustle on the other side. You really didn’t want to knock but you know what was on the line so you swallow your pride and raise a fist to knock.
But before you can knock, the door is opening revealing a girl, with dirty blonde hair bearing a semblance to a certain actress. “Oh, hi!”
“Hello.” You greet warmly.
“I’m Aliyah. Jenna’s younger sister.” She holds her free hand out.
You shake her hand, “Nice to meet you, I’m–”
“I know who you are.” She smiled then laughed, “Everyone knows who you are.”
You chuckled, shyly nodding. “I guess.”
“Are you two done?” Jenna suddenly appears, yanking the door wider so you can see her. Her makeup complements her well; the green bustier two-piece looked expertly crafted just for her; and the way her hair fell in soft waves framed her face nicely.
“Hi…” You say a little vacant-sounding.
You don’t say anything else.
From the corner of your eye, you see her sister’s raised brow but you think you’re imagining it because you can’t keep your gaze off of Jenna. The actress raises her brow at you, impatient.
“What did you need?” She asks.
“Uh—I wanted to talk, about last night."
Jenna watches you momentarily before rolling her eyes; pulling you inside with a rough yank. “Get inside before someone sees you — Aliyah close the door.”
You stumble, still a little dazed but the smaller girl’s nails are gripping your arm painfully making you snap out of it.
“Ow, ow, ow.” You whisper, not inattentive to the multiple people scattered around the large room.
“Guys, this is Y/N.” She ignored your complaints and pulled you past the foyer into the living room – her entire team had taken refuge in the room to get the star ready for a day of press interviews.
Various echoes of your name and greetings are sent back to you but you certainly don’t miss the awkward tension in the room started by your sudden presence.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt, I can just go.” You point behind you.
“Nonsense.” An older woman that looked kinda like the actress waves off. “It’s great to have you here, Miss L/N. Jenna was just talking about you.”
“Oh please, just Y/N is fine.” Shaking your head bashfully, briefly wondering what she could be telling her family and team about what kind of person you are.
“I’m Jenna’s mom. That’s her dad, her other sister Mia, and her brother Markus.” She points and you try to keep up with the names of the people she’s throwing at you; Jenna’s family and team included.
“It’s so great to meet you all. It’s not hard to see that Jenna is so loved.” You say sincerely.
“We try our best.” Her dad says looking appreciative of your words. You smile at everyone and it seems to ease a bit of the tension in the room.
You didn’t see Jenna rolling her eyes again (her favourite to do around you) disregarding the encounter; she hides the surprise she feels from your genuine compliment.
Last night's argument with you, still burning in her brain.
“What did you want to say?" She says a little bluntly.
Watching as everyone turns to go back to what they were doing, you look down at Jenna. “Um… I wanted to apologize for last night. And call a truce, maybe over dinner?
She looks surprised not expecting you to be the first one to give in. “Oh…”
“Yeah…”
“I appreciate it.” Jenna cuts in, “I’m sorry too… a truce sounds good. Sarah got mad at me too, for what it's worth. She even said I was whining.”
Jenna jokes, dropping her walls a bit.
You rub a hand on the back of your neck, chuckling, “Good to know.”
“I can’t do dinner though.” She shuts her eyes as if remembering something.
“Oh, that’s okay. Maybe another time.”
“Or maybe… you can be my date to the Scream cast dinner?” She offers, looking a little hopeful.
“Are you sure?” You chew your lip. Ignoring the word date.
“Yeah! Totally, you can meet everyone, it’ll be great. Not to throw anyone under the bus but they’ve been trying to meet you.” She says sheepishly.
You laugh, dropping your walls just a tad. “Sure I’ll be there.”
She smiles warmly, satisfied with your answer. “Yeah, it’ll be great. I guarantee there’ll be paparazzi, so it’ll be good for publicity. They’ve been hounding me since I landed, my dad nearly pushed a guy in the airport. I couldn’t even walk to the door by myself at the SNL dinner cast party.”
You lose a bit of the smile but Jenna doesn’t see, laughing at her memory of the paparazzi. You blink around, making sure no one saw you, it might give them the wrong idea. “Uh, yeah sure. I’m good with whatever.”
“Okay, cool.” She shoots a thumb up, walking away from you. “I’ll see you tonight?”
“Mhmm.” You smile, waving goodbye to everyone and booting it out the door.
Unsure where the tension in your chest is coming from you swiftly walk to the elevator; aggressively tapping the button as if the elevator would come faster that way. And practically throwing yourself in the metal box as soon as it opens.
You miss the entire pandemonium that implodes in the room when you leave.
“Holy shit?” Mia exclaims.
“Language.” Her mom chastises.
“No, holy shit, indeed. Jenna oh my god what did you do to that poor girl?” Aliyah walks past Jenna to grab a bottle of water from the fridge.
“What are you talking about?” She looks at her sisters confused.
Mia’s rolling her eyes, standing up from the couch. “Did you not see the way she was looking at you?”
“No? How was she looking at me?” She turns to her mom who had a hint of a smile on her lips as if she knew something. Jenna was starting to feel left out.
“She likes you, Jen.” Her brother speaks up, not even bothering to look up from his phone.
“What? You guys are crazy. We barely know each other.” Jenna starts shaking her head furiously, turning to Enrique, her stylist and close friend. “Enrique, tell them they’re being crazy.”
But he shrugs, sharing that same Cheshire grin her mom had. “God, not you too.” She clamps her eyes shut with her hands.
“Hey! Watch the eyes!” Her makeup artist warns.
“Dad?” She drops her hands, pleading at the silent man, who, she knows is listening. Why do Dads do that thing where they let everyone argue, only stepping in when the Mom asks for backup.
He remains in character – staying silent.
“You guys don’t know what you’re talking about. She was literally here for five seconds. How could you possibly think she likes me from that.” Jenna turns to everyone else.
“I don’t know, Jen. The eyes never lie.” Mia says, privy to the way your smile fell when Jenna mentioned being spotted for publicity tonight.
“I’m– I’m late for interviews, I need to go,” Jenna mutters, grabbing her purse and walking to the door.
“This is gonna blow up.” Your producer says from beside you.
“I don’t know. I still think it’s missing something.” You sigh, sliding the headphones off as you slump onto the plush leather seats.
You sneaked off to the studio not too far from the hotel in lower Manhattan. See you would have told Link or anyone really, but you were trying to be discreet. And Link is one ‘ol snitch and the personal fun police.
It seems after your fight with Jenna, Jake and Liv put you under strict instructions not to leave the hotel unless accompanied by someone from your team.
You’re not a fucking child. You don’t need a babysitter. So here you are, with your producer in the studio trying to record this damn song you’ve been stuck on for three months.
“Maybe it’s time to scrap the song then.” He offers. “It’s never gonna be done before Coachella.”
Immediately you are shaking your head. No, this song is special, you can feel it. If only you can get your head out of your own ass long enough to find the damn words.
“No, just– just put it on hold. Let’s work on something else.”
He sighs, clicking the screen to pull up another file. “Your call.”
The buzzing of your phone against the wooden table echoes into the silence that grew as you waited. “Ah fuck.”
Reaching over, you grab the phone and are bombarded by a flurry of texts and missed calls.
Some from Jenna, some from your bodyguard and driver, most from Link.
Jenna’s is the first one you click.
The phone rings three times before it gets picked up. Muffled, loud voices are all you hear at first before she eventually speaks up, “Hello?”
“Hey, I am so–”
“Where the hell are you? You’re ten minutes late. We’re all waiting for you.” Her tone is sharp and snipped.
You had fucked up.
“Fuck… I’m sorry, I’ll be right there– there was…. uh.” You stand, gathering your jacket and silently bidding your producer goodbye as he looks on confused. “There was a lot of traffic. I am so sorry, I’m trying to make it as fast as I can.”
She sighs through the phone, “It’s…fine. Just get here as soon as you can, please.”
A little white lie never killed anybody.
You make it to the restaurant in record time. Pushing through the paparazzi camping outside the restaurant doors. Do they have no shame? Clearly not as they shout Jenna’s name at you; asking if you were there to see her, trying to get their piece of the scoop. Thankfully, the security guard had seen you and personally ushered you to the cast‘s table. Someone must have informed them that you were coming.
You’re still blinking away the spots in your vision from the camera flashes when you feel an arm pulling you down to sit.
“What took you so long?”Jenna asked assertively, scanning you.
“I told you. Traffic.” You plaster a smile at all the eyes on you, subtly shrugging Jenna’s arm off yours with a little bit of attitude.
You don’t miss her clenched jaw. Plastering a smile in front of her costars who were trying their best not to gawk at you. "Well, where were you then? No one could get a hold of you, we were worried."
You tried your hardest to school your genuine surprise at her worry. "Sorry. I was working. My phone was off."
“Hi! I’m Melissa, it’s so nice to meet you, I’m a big fan.” A brunette extends her hand from across the long table – interrupting Jenna before she can say anything else.
You make the usual greetings, introducing yourself to Jenna’s costars and colleagues. You felt a bit like a trophy wife if you were being honest. Like eye candy on her arm, serving only to make her look good. Upon that realization, you feel a little flushed. You’re not sure why, that is the whole point of this whole thing.
Her castmates have been sending you two knowing eyes over dinner — giving Jenna inconspicuous smirks and smug grins as if you couldn’t see. You keep your head down after the pleasantries are over and the main courses are brought out.
Grateful, you don’t have to talk about your upcoming projects any longer.
“What’s wrong?” You nudge her elbow, noticing how she was pushing away some pieces of food on her plate.
“I don’t like apples.” She mutters.
You can’t fight the smile that creeps on your lips but you don’t tease. “Just push them off to the side and I’ll eat it.”
She looks at you. “You sure?”
“Yeah, it’s no big deal.” You shrug taking a sip of your wine.
“That doesn’t gross you out or anything? I know some people are weird about that sort of thing.” Jenna explains.
“Dude, I’ll eat your apples, chill.” You laugh.
“Okay, thanks…” She mumbles, still looking at you but you turn, talking to Mason and his girlfriend.
Jenna feels a nudge on her side. “What?”
“You two are cute.” Jasmin smirks. “And Y/N L/N? Not a bad catch at all.”
“Stop.” Jenna blushes. Unsure if she feels uncomfortable that some of her close and respected friends believe this lie so easily.
“Hey, give them some space!” The security guard shouts as the paparazzi come rushing toward the door as soon as the cast steps out.
You were standing in the lobby waiting for Jenna. “Shit…” You hear her mutter, watching as she searches for something in her bag.
“What’s up?” You ask.
“I forgot my sunglasses in my room. The flashes hurt my eyes.” She frowns. Wordlessly, you fish the pair you stashed in your jacket.
“Here, wear mine.” You hold the glasses out, watching as she just stares at it. Rolling your eyes, you push it toward her. “Dude, just take it.”
“Thanks…” She mumbles, sliding them up her hair.
You walk ahead of her, holding the door open as everyone trickles out. You’re regretting giving Jenna your only sunglasses cause the flashes are bright and it’s making your eyes water.
“Go ahead,” You usher, only leaving once everyone’s gone ahead of you. You trail behind ignoring the various men with large cameras chasing you as you walk down the sidewalk.
“Y/N over here, please! Just one photo.”
“Y/N, just one photo of you and Jenna, please!”
“What do you have to say about Vegas?”
You ignore them keeping your head down trying not to fall behind.
“Where’s Y/N?” You hear over the sea of nameless faces.
“Right here.” You say, sliding in beside her.
You miss the subtle sigh of relief she lets out.
“You can’t just walk behind everyone like that.” She grits, frustratedly.
"I tried to keep up." You mumbled like a scolded husband.
The shouting increases when you stand beside one another; practically rendering you blind with all the flashes. “Dammit.”
You place an hand on her back, pushing her forward. “Put on the sunglasses and walk.”
“Y/N, please over here. Jenna!” The shouting is constant and blurs altogether all at the same time.
“Ow.” You feel Jenna tumble when someone bumps her side causing her to bump harshly against you. Firmly, you grab her arm to preventing her from falling and pushed back against the crowd to check on her.
“Are you okay?” you ask worriedly as she fixes the lopsided glasses. “Yeah, yeah. I’m fine.”
“Hey. Watch it–” You grit at the closest person holding a camera. “It wasn’t me.”
The man insists, still shamelessly snapping flashes directly into your face and you begin to grow angry, slapping the camera out of his hands. “I said fucking watch it, asshole.”
You glare for a brief moment as the shouting gets impossibly louder. Knowing if you didn’t pull Jenna out of this, chaos would ensue. You link hands and drag her through the crowd, briskly walking to her castmates who shared looks of concern.
“Are you okay?” You ask, still walking but now barricaded by security and her friends.
“Yeah, I’m fine, I promise.” She squeezes your hand but then sighs, “You shouldn’t have done that.”
You scoff, “Are you serious? That guy pushed you.”
“It was an accident and you kinda overreacted.” She whispers lowly.
You clench your jaw, dropping her hand — Not wanting to blow up in front of her colleagues, you walk swiftly ahead.
You don’t talk even when you are both side-by-side being driven back to the hotel. Her driver has the partition up halfway but you see the nosy glances he keeps making at the rearview mirror as you and Jenna sit in silence; acutely aware to the growing tension between you and the actress.
You refuse to speak, just looking out the window as other cars pass by on the street.
“Are you done ignoring me now?” She speaks up but you still don’t want to talk. “Seriously?”
“Y/N all he did was push me. A little shove, that’s all. I’m okay. What’s not okay is the phone call you know we’re going to get from Liv and Sarah about that guy’s camera.”
“He deserved it.” You mumble through the palm holding your head up.
“I’m not saying he didn’t but you can’t just be aggressive to paparazzi like that. It’s exactly what they want.” She reasons, turning to you. Hoping you’ll finally look at her.
“I know…”
“Look at me, please?” She places a hand on your arm.
You turn, keeping your face impassive.
She sends you a shy smile then laughed. “I mean it though, thank you for having my back. My Dad is gonna think this whole thing is hilarious.”
“Why?” You can’t help but join in.
“He’s a cop, so he’s a little protective. He’s been waiting to shove away a pap for the longest time. He’s gonna be so mad you beat him to it.”
You laugh imagining her father’s reaction.
“You haven’t seen Scream? Not even the original?” Jenna turns bewildered like it was the most blasphemous thing she’s ever heard. You were in her hotel suite, watching movies. For some reason, Jenna invited you over to her room after being dropped off at the hotel. “How? You’re an actress.”
You couldn’t think of a good reason to say no so you accepted.
“Yeah, sorry. Jeez. Way to sound like a film snob. I didn’t know there was a checklist of movies to watch before becoming an actor.” You snort reaching for more popcorn from the bowl beside you.
“Shut up.” She hits you with the remote. “How have you not seen any of the Scream movies? You’re literally going to my premiere tomorrow.”
You hold up your hands in surrender, throwing a couple of kernels in your mouth. “Sorry, they’re not really my cup of tea.”
She rolls her eyes, snatching some popcorn from your hand, ignoring your protests. “Oh sorry, I forgot we have an action star in our midst.”
It was your turn to hit her arm, “Shut it. I just mean… I haven’t found the time to sit and watch them. They’re not exactly short films.”
“You’re in the MCU and Dune. Don’t talk to me about long movies.”
“Touché…” You can’t beat her there. They are ridiculously long movies. Probably why you’ve only ever seen them during premiere night and never again. “Well, put one on then. Let’s see what all the hype is about.”
She grins scrambling for the remote. “You’re on.”
You wait for her to pull up the Scream catalogue, chuckling at her visible excitement.
“Hey, why did you become an actress? and singer while we’re at it, Miss Grammy winner.” She nudges your shoulder.
You snort, shoving her lazily. “Shut up… Do you want the press interview answer or the real one?”
She raises a brow, immediately deciding. “The real one.”
You nod, feeling like she would say that.
“My mom... She was a rising star in the 80s but something happened and she never got to live out her dreams. When she had me she put me through all of the arts. I bumped and failed with most of them but acting and singing kinda stuck… I guess she saw those were the only two things I could stand so she pushed and pushed, it led to Jake discovering me and here we are.”
Jenna stays silent processing your story, she doesn’t miss the slight solemness your tone had taken. "Why do I feel like there's more to it than that?"
You chuckle, licking your lips. "Caught me... it's why I don't talk to my parents anymore."
"Oh..."
"Yeah. As soon as I turned eighteen I cut ties with them. She got too controlling, wanting money, wanting autonomy over my career so I took Link with me and moved to L.A. and did it on my own. I think... at some point acting became a spite thing with me because of her.
“Spite?” Jenna asks?
“Yeah… it was all I’ve ever known for a long time until I started making music. Probably the only time I’ve ever felt sure about a decision.”
"Oh..." Jenna finds herself saying again.
"Uh–sorry. I didn't mean to make it weird. We can just forget about it." You curl into yourself, tugging the blanket to your lap.
Jenna blinks, feeling dumb that she's made you think her silence is a bad thing.
"No..." She grabs your wrist. "Thank you for sharing with me."
You look into her eyes, feeling a bit small at her kind eyes. You know it's not out of pity but you couldn't help but want to close up again.
Pulling your hand away from her grip, you cough. "Of course, we're friends now."
"Oh, are we?" Jenna ignores the drop in her chest when you pulled away like that. “Okay, what’s the press answer then?”
“That I watched the movie Cabaret when I was younger and wanted to be like Liza Minelli.” You admit.
Jenna scoffs, “That’s literally my answer.”
“Is it?”
“Yeah except, it’s Dakota Fanning in Man on Fire.”
You chuckle, “doesn’t Denzel die in that one?”
“Yeah and what about it?” She raised a brow.
"But see, don’t fight it we’re meant to be friends... we even share the same answer."
"Shut up, dummy. Every actor has some sort of answer like that.”
Eventually, the two of you start a marathon of the Scream franchise. Which in hindsight, is kind of a bad idea seeing as it was way past midnight and the other actress still has a long week ahead of her. It seems like the events of the day catch up to her cause you feel a head slipping on your shoulder; distracting your focus halfway through Scream 3.
Jenna had fallen asleep with her head on your shoulder. You fight the urge to tense up not wanting to wake her up. She looked like she needed the rest and you relate more than anyone to her exhaustion.
“Jenna…” You lightly tap, “You fell asleep, you need to go to bed.”
She grumbles, whining in her slumber. You feels your cheeks warm when she unconsciously moves to snuggle closer to you, throwing an arm over your waist.
Fuck.
Really?
God, I am not your strongest soldier.
“Jen, seriously. Wake up.” You shake her arm.
“What?” She complains, her words muffled by your collarbone.
“You need to go to bed.”
The feeling of her soft lashes brushing against the material of your shirt as she blinks sends a shiver down your spine. “Oh…”
Jenna mumbles mortified. Quickly pushing herself off of you, unable to look you in the eyes. “Sorry.”
You don't mention how she might have punched your stomach and that you were desperately trying not to cough.
“S’okay…” You shake your head softly. You couldn't help but notice the way her hair fell over her eyes messily.
“I’ll see you tomorrow?” She asks once she regains her senses, waking up from her short slumber.
Something tells Jenna she won’t be sleeping with how fast her heart is pounding; uncertain as to where her sudden anxiety is coming from.
“Yeah… I’ll be waiting for you inside.” You stand gathering your belongings.
“Wait, you’re not walking the carpet with me?” Jenna pulled a face.
You raise a brow, “No? At least, I wasn't told I had to. They just said I had to show up.”
“Oh… okay.” She nods then sighed, long and profound.
You continue to raise a brow but don’t say anything. Not wanting to push her. You remember the last time you guys fought and are immediately turned off. No thanks, not trying to open that can of worms.
“Okay. Goodnight then.”
“Goodnight, Y/N.” She leans against the door.
Her premiere is a success. After borderline shoving you inside a tinted Cadillac, Link brushes your vintage Prada gown down; making sure you are in tip-top movie-star shape. You don’t walk the carpet, instead heading straight inside – making headlines.
Your every damn move is a headline these days.
Silently thanking whatever God was out there that you didn’t because the way your jaw dropped when you see Jenna was downright embarrassing. Your reaction would surely have been a running piece if cameras were around.
Your managers would love it though.
Link had to forcefully elbow your side as Jenna walks up to greet you.
“Wow…” You manage to say. “You look stunning Jenna.”
Jenna was glad for the dim lights in the theatre, “Thanks.” She blushes, casting her eyes down.
“You look great too.” She scans you up and down, suddenly feeling warm under her gape.
Maybe it was the way her makeup is done or the deconstructed tuxedo for a dress that she had on tonight but she looked more mature, intimidating? Like she could throw you around a little and you’d just gladly ask her to do it again.
Wait, what?
“Thanks… Link and I should head to our seats but I just wanted to congratulate you. This is seriously amazing.” You express sincerely.
Jenna flushes more, waving you off with a huff and a lazy hand. “Please.”
“Seriously!”
Link coughs loudly, interrupting the bubble you and Jenna found yourselves in. “Okay, someone’s a little impatient. We better go.”
A hand reaches out, grabbing you. “Do you wanna, maybe, I don’t know. Sit beside me?”
You turn, surprised. “Oh? What about Enrique?” You glance at her stylist standing just behind her pretending like he wasn’t listening; fiddling on his phone.
“I’m sure he won’t mind switching to sit with Link, right Enrique?” She turns, asking her friend.
He grins widely, “Nope. All good with me!”
“Perfect!” She smiles at you, still grabbing your arm.
“We’ll be down there!” Jenna calls out to Link and Enrique linking your fingers out of nowhere as you walk to beside her costars.
You still don’t say anything when Jenna wraps herself around you when you make it to your seats, waving as people cheer with a large smile before pulling you to sit down.
Only then did she pull herself away, “sorry about that.”
“All good.” You mumble after realizing what happened; turning to face the large screen.
Perfect photo op.
“Hey is that sharpie on your dress?”
“Yes.” She sighs.
The rest of the night goes off without a hitch but you can’t stop the growing unpleasantness in your chest. You decide to brush it off and save face for Jenna’s night. Your sulking and feelings can wait in the privacy of your own four walls and definitely not at a high-profile movie premiere.
By the time you found yourself at the NBC building in a random dressing room at the SNL studio, waiting for Jenna’s monologue you forget all about it. You lay lazily on a stiff and most likely old couch, scrolling through your phone.
A knock on the door has you pulling off your headphones. “Come in.”
“Hey Y/N.” A head peaks in making you sit up briskly. “Aliyah, hey. Is everything okay?”
“Yeah, yeah. Just uh– Jenna’s asking for you.” She sends a sheepish smile, the corners of her eyes crinkling.
“Oh,” Your head perks up. “Is she okay?” You question, following the smaller girl past hallways that all looked the same; trying not to bump into the various stagehands buzzing around.
“Yeah, yeah, she’s kinda freaking out, though and… we can’t get her to calm down.” You both stop at a closed door.
“Oh… why me?” You couldn’t help but ask.
“Uh… okay she didn’t exactly say you but I saw your episode and you were hilarious and who better to talk her down than someone who’s done it before.” She flashes a large grin before opening the door and shoving you inside.
The room is empty save for Jenna dressed in a short-legged suit. You force yourself to blink, reminding yourself that you are on a time crunch.
“Jenna.”
She snaps her head at your voice, and a noticeable tremble in her fingers is the first thing you see. “What–what are you doing here? I thought you’d be in your seat by now.”
“Your sister asked me to come.” You admit, walking forward.
“I’m fine. Go to your seat, I’ll see you after the show.” She turns her back to you, looking over sheets of paper with multi-coloured inked notes scribbled on every open space.
“Take a deep breath for me, Jenna.” You walk closer, slowly bringing the hand tightly clutching her notes down. The bones in her fingers relax as she drops the paper. She doesn’t say anything when you don’t disconnect your hands.
You find yourself standing much closer to her.
“Take a deep breath.” You repeat.
Jenna closes her eyes, inhaling a long, deep and audible breath in then out. She clutches your fingers as she does so, unconsciously leaning back against you to ground her bubbling anxiety.
She stays in your hold with her back against your chest: a death grip on your fingers. Your swipe a thumb over the skin of her hand. “It’ll be okay…”
“Thanks…” Jenna looks into your eyes, taking one last deep breath.
Briefly, you hold her gaze feeling tepid under the intense look in her eyes. You can’t tell what they're saying but for some reason, the way her dark pupils seemed softer under the fluorescent lights had you under a spell.
And for a fleeting second, you thought she was leaning in closer to you — eyes flickering to your lips.
“Don’t mention it.” You drop her hand immediately, taking wide steps back.
Not liking the way her eyes flickered down.
You don’t like what that could possibly mean.
Jenna’s turning rapidly, pretending not to notice as you take sizable steps away from her. “What did my sister say?”
You laugh, shoving your hands in your jacket. “That she liked my SNL episode and thought someone who’s done it before can talk you down.”
“Talk me down?” She scrunches her nose.
“Don’t shoot the messenger.” You shrug.
“Your episode was okay.” Jenna turns away to face a mirror, brushing away her bangs.
You take the bait, glad she wasn’t trembling anymore. “Okay? I got the whole cast to break, it’s considered a classic. It was nominated for an Emmy that year.”
“It didn’t win though.”
You scoff playfully, “I’m leaving. You clearly don’t need my help anymore.”
She laughs obnoxiously as you stomp out of her dressing room. “Wait.”
You stop just before you open the door. “Yeah?”
“Thank you… for talking me down.” She tucks a hair backs, a little shy.
The small smile creeping on your face is hard to subdue. “Don’t mention it. Now, go. You’re gonna kill it.” You wink, exiting the dressing room.
“She’s all good.” You tell her team.
“That’s it? She hasn’t calmed down all day, it takes you – what, five minutes?” Enrique crosses his arms. Jenna’s mom smirks, patting his back then walked past him and into the room as the rest of her family slowly trickled in; her sisters staring at you intensely.
“Uh sorry?” You blush furiously, walking off in the other direction to find your seat.
Jenna kills it, but that was never a surprise. You can tell she’s nervous throughout her monologue but after Fred Armisen does his bit – from beside you, which had been a pleasant surprise. She begins to grow confident, feeling pleased with your embarrassment when the camera pans to you and Fred.
You’d get her back for that. Making a mental note to cook up a special revenge plan, just for her.
Eventually, she falls into the role naturally. Nailing her punchlines perfectly, working the crowd like an expert, and exquisitely performing her skits. It’s a shock to you when you overhear someone behind you say she’s never done live stage work before.
She's so natural at it.
It's a privilege to watch her perform.
You nearly die when she changes into a red suit as she introduces the musical guest of the night.
Actually, you begin to slide off your seat when she comes out in a pinstripe suit — a reference to the Addams family you overheard in passing.
When credits roll and the ‘LIVE’ sign turns off. You remain in your seat. Unsure if you are just admiring her or if it’s ‘cause your legs no longer functioned. You can’t fight that admiration as it grows when you see how supportive her family is as they cheer her on and celebrate this win as one unit.
You smile, wishing you can relate. At least some people had that in their lives.
A part of you thinks it makes the whole world’s difference, having a support system like that. But you would never know.
Silently, you slip out the stage doors and back to the random dressing room you’ve decided to take refuge in.
You narrowly miss Jenna trying to find you through the masses; her smile dropping a bit when she realizes you’re gone.
–
You don’t get a chance to personally congratulate Jenna because Link was bursting into the dressing room — after complaining about trying to find you for ten minutes. Rambling on how you’re needed back in Los Angeles and there was no time to say goodbye.
When you catch the other actress it’s by pure stroke of luck. You're going through checkout at the hotel, waiting for Link to do all the work as you wait behind him.
You feel slightly guilty that you're just leaving without warning.
You should send Jenna a text, right? But would she even care if you left so suddenly? She did want you out of the city just a few days ago.
But then, you two literally just, might’ve, maybe, almost kissed/shared a moment in her dressing room, so who knows what you should do at this point.
You feel a migraine forming at the base of your skull, the longer you thought about the other actress.
“Y/N?” A voice breaks your self-deprecating thoughts. You turn to see Jenna with her team and family trailing beside her.
Jenna’s smile falls when she sees your bags. Her family walks ahead but you certainly don’t miss their curious eyes as she stops in front of you.
“Where are you going?” Her eyes keep flickering between you and your bags.
Link avoids her sharp, accusing eyes.
“Back to L.A. sorry I was just about to send you a text, actually.” You confessed, a little ashamed.
It felt like you got caught doing something you shouldn’t be doing… like when you lie to your long-time partner about the real reason why you want some time apart.
“A text?” She raises an unamused brow not liking your answer.
“Yeah, Jake wants me back in L.A. Uh– sorry, was I supposed to tell you?” You ask, a bit confused.
“Tell me?” She scoffs, face dropping. “Yeah, you’re supposed to tell me. I was going to invite you to dinner to celebrate with my family and the SNL cast tonight. But you weren’t even in the audience anymore by the time I finished.”
“Sorry… I thought you’d want to celebrate with your family.” You shrug lamely, torn between feeling guilty and confused at her reaction to the news of your sudden departure.
She made it feel like you were trying to escape.
“Well, I thought–”
She cuts herself off with a huff then looked back as her family waits for her by the elevator.
“Thought what?”
As if remembering she was still out in a very public setting, after hosting one of the most recognizable programs in America; Jenna blinks out of it. Shoving her feelings down.
“Nothing. Have a safe flight back to L.A. I’ll see you in a few days… or weeks” She mumbles with an edginess to her words, walking away before you can say anything else.
“Tough break, buddy.” Link pats a comforting hand on your shoulder as you were rendered speechless. Unsure if you should chase her down and apologize.
Damn can she walk fast in those heels.
But, why would you be apologizing for having to do your job?
But the way her brow creased like she was actually upset caused an unpleasant drop in your chest. Not enjoying how she was upset and that it seemed like it was all your fault. You? Nah. Maybe she’s still dealing with other stuff and is just taking it out on you.
It wouldn’t be the first time.
“What. Just. Happened.” You turn, aggressively snatching your card from the hotel worker who definitely enjoyed the show.
“Are you blind?” He scoffs then walks away from you.
“What do you mean? Link… what do you mean?”

Imagine a life in Louisiana New Orleans, 1920.
Your a nice little lady, dragged to a nightclub by your friend. You didn't want to go initially due to the recent murders, but mimzy just had to go for her "reputation "
The loud music played as mimzy was surrounded by young men, most likely trying to get in her pants, er skirt. Mimzy always loved that kind of attention. You on the other hand, did not.
But of course, being near mimzy meant her little fan club of boys would sometimes drift to you aswell.
"Whats a fine doll like you doin here with a tramp like mim?" A young man spoke up, his cheeks flushed to show how many drinks he had so far.
"Shouldn't you be with the rest of your troop? You know, cheering for mimzy instead of belittling her?" You inquired, not even sparing the man a glance as you swished your whiskey in the glass it was in.
"You're right..." The boy spoke "but would you believe me if I said i fell in love with you from the moment i saw you?"
You knew it... these boys playing grown ups used that same line everytime they were around you.
You rolled your eyes to his response "nice try little boy but I dont play those games, so how bout you run along and try that on the next poor broad you see?" You waved your hand to shoo him away. "Maybe you'll have better luck next time-"
A tight grip was held on your wrist making you look up from your drink.
"So your just going to brush me off like that huh?" The drunkard looked into your eyes, previously clouded with lust was now darkened with anger "do you even know who I am, little lady?"
The man's grip tightened, making you wince.
You opened your mouth to tell him to let go but before you can even get the words out of your mouth, a gentle hand was placed on your waist and another vice grip on the man's wrist.
"My, is that any way to treat a lady, young man?" A cheery voice spoke up "every gentleman knows not to raise his hand to harm a lady, especially a lady they are courting"
The drunk young man let go of your wrist. Looking up at the brunette who has yet to face you.
"I think its time for you to go little boy" the brunette pushed the boy to the ground, watching him run away until he was out of sight.
The brunette turned towards you, revealing a handsome man around your age, a tan complexion accompanied with matching dark eyes and a shiny smile "are you alright my dear?" His voice was ever so cheery, just like his smile.
"Thanks..." you replied, rubbing your wrist.
"The names alastor, pleasure to meet you sweetheart! Quite a pleasure!" He held his hand out in which you shook.
"(Y/n), the pleasure is all mine" you were skeptical of him.
"What brings you here by yourself?" Alastor spoke, his hands now behind his back.
"I'm with a friend, mights heard of her, her names mimzy" you pointed over to your short friend who was giggling away, throwing back glass after glass of whiskey, bought by her little play things.
"Your a friend of mimzy? What a coincidence!" Alastor laughed "she invited me out here but I couldn't find her, shall we go greet her together?" The brunette held his arm out in an attempt to escort you to the little flapper.
You hesitantly took his arm and followed him towards your little pal.
"Mimzy!" Alastor walked towards the blonde.
Mimzy looked up from her crowd and smiled. "alastor! I was wondering where you've been!"
"I was searching for you when I came across one of your friends who had some trouble!" The man gestured towards you "you never told me you had such a pretty gem!"
"Yeah, she's a real looker ain't she?" She winked at you "though I'd love to talk some more, I was just entertaining some of these folks" she gestures towards the crowd of boys.
"Don't let me keep you mimzy" Alastor waved in dismissal and walked back to you "my it is crowded in here"
You nodded "This kind of thing isn't really my style" you waved at the crowded place.
"Me neither, mimzy always insists that I come" alastors smile stays bit his eyes show his distaste for this place before lighting back up "say, I know this nice place down the street, what say we ditch this place and head for a meal?"
Following a man you just met into the night? Couldn't be more of a death wish... but he didn't seem all that bad, plus he and mimzy seemed to be on good terms so whats the worst that could happen?
"Yes please" you sighed, smiling.
"Aha! That's better my darling! I haven't seen you give a proper smile all evening! It sits you!" He bellowed, holding his arm out to escort you once again.
Once you left the building, it didn't take long for you two to fall into conversation.
It turned out that alastor ran a radio channel, broadcasting about this and that, more so about those pesky murders as of late.
Alastor had learned that you don't usually go to these things due to the way men look at you with a lustrous gaze, so openly at that. Instead of following mimzy on these nightly activities, you would stay home and tend to your little restaurant.
"I know it's not really suitable for a lady to be owning a business, but if im going to end up cooking for a man, might as well get paid to do so, am I right?"
Alastor couldn't agree more, letting you in on some secrets his mother had told him about cooking.
"Your not so bad al" you laughed after he had told you a particular dad joke "not bad at all"
Now, alastor was never one to indulge in romance, but the way you smiled, the way you set your dreams to be so big... he couldn't describe the feeling it left... but it was addicting, more addicting than the screams he would entice almost every night from his victims. Yes he originally planned to kill you, but after actually getting to know you, he couldn't bring himself to do it.
"Thanks..." his voice was quiet "your not bad at all either"
The night went off without a hitch, you even let him walk you to your house which just so happened to be connected to your restaurant.
"Do drop by if you get a chance, I'll try out that jambalaya recipe for you" you smiled, leaning on the open door.
"Wouldn't miss it for the world, darling!" He bowed before walking down the empty dark street.
The next time mimzy invited you out, you didn't hesitate to accept. You hadn't heard from alastor since the delightful night you two had.
Mimzy gave you the address and promptly hung up the phone.
You didn't want to be late, so you ended up being early, too early. The sun was only just setting, casting a golden hue onto the city.
You had hoped the doors would be opened but you're luck ran short on that part.
It was a chilly evening. That much was clear as a breeze brushed by, making you shiver.
It wasn't long until mimzy came by and the nightly routine began.
Boys flocked to mimzy, buying her drinks, and a few stragglers found their way to you.
The boy from the previous night came back, looking up and down, lust evident in his eyes once again.
"I'm guessing you came back in regret?" His nice guy act was no doubt gone, revealing his true colors.
You scoffed and continued to listen to the music. Frank Sinatra had such a heavenly voice...
Your thoughts were interrupted by the man yanking your hair "listen here, you harlot, no one ignores me... so here's what we're going to do" you felt something sharp and cold press against the opening of your dress on your back "we're going to walk out of here, got going to be a nice birdie and not make a peep, understood?" His breath fanned into your ear, reaking of alcohol.
Fear ran cold in your veins as you couldn't do anything but gently nod.
You trembled, making the man's eerie smile widen as you felt something poke at your back.
As soon as you got out, the empty street revealed that no one could help you now as he led you to the alley beside the building.
Tears pricked your eyes as he shoved you into the brick wall as he squished his face into the crook of your neck, inhaling your perfume, the perfume you wore for alastor.
"Please stop" you managed to sob out.
It echoed out of the alley, and right onto the ears of the man you'd hoped to see.
He was standing outside of the club, debating whether or not he should enter. Would you be waiting for him? Has he been on your mind constantly, just like you have for him? Has he plagued every crevice of your brain just like you have in his? Or did you think little of the evening between you two, and gone back to your life...
His thoughts were interrupted by your sob.
His blood ran hot in his veins... you were here, but instead of having fun, you were in an alley in god knows what condition...
He walked towards the alley, everything seemed to be in slow motion...
There, before his own eyes, you were crying, the sleeve of your dress pulled down as the man behind you shamelessly grinded into you as he pulled your hair, biting into the soft skin on your shoulder.
"I thought I told you to behave..." alastors voice was heard from the opening of the alley "especially with a lady"
The man looked up from you with a glare "stay out of this, you square" he pulled out the knife and pointed it towards alastor making your eyes widen in fear of him being hurt to save you "unless you want me to cut you up"
The sight of you being worried for him made alastors head spin with glee, but this was no time for that.
"Darling Belle, close your eyes for a moment, will you?" Alastors smile was strained yet firm as a murderous aura clouded the alley way.
You did as told, wanting this night to be over with.
Screams were heard. Alastors hands moved quickly as he used his brute strength and adrenaline to break the man's knees backwards and draped his coat over you.
bones cracking and blood spilling filled the alley way along with the sound of alastors giggling.
Before you knew it, it was over and the man had passed it from blood loss and pain.
Alastor placed his hands on your shoulders as you trembled, bruises and bite marks all evident on your body as he guided you out of the alleyway.
"Sorry you had to experience that, darling" alastor apologized like you had seen him shirtless instead of him killing a man.
It took you a while, but you eventually spoke.
"Thank you... alastor" your head leaned against his chest as you felt tears start to form once again.
Alastor was never one for physical touch, but then again, he wasn't one for regular emotions, relationships, or even human connections, yet you bypassed all of his limits.
He sighed, and held you close.
"Its quite alright darling... " this was all new to him, so it didn't conquer to him that it would be the wrong time and mood for his next words "I could never let anything happen to you... i love you..."
You froze, slowly looking up at the man who held you so tenderly in his arms in the middle of the empty street... those words were spoken many times to you... your ex fiance before h ran away with his mistress, your family before he disowned you leaving you to fend for yourself in the harsh city, and your guy friend who supported you after the disownment who had confessed to you as you stayed at his apartment, running the friendship and trust... how could you ever trust anyone who spoke those words?
Alastors hold around you was gentle... it was comforting... you had only known him a few days, a week at most, having only met twice... yet he said he loved you?
"You love me?" You inquired... no longer liking the feeling of his arms around you as they felt fake
"I love you... " alastor smiled, though it seemed nervous as your gaze made him feel like he had something stupid...
Inspired by the song "something stupid" by Frank Sinatra.

Session 4: Adding Details
Ever since the last painting session with Leon a few days ago, he's been a lot more lively. He jokes more, laughs more, and flirts a lot more. Specifically with you.
It's only been a couple hours into the next session and he's already called you 'sweetheart' five times. You counted. Hard not to when the man decides to put on the most seductive tone to say it, honestly.
You've begun to reciprocate Leon's flirting since clearly he's not one to hide what he's after.
"Alright Romeo, I need you to stay still and in position for just a few minutes longer. I don't think you want me to accidentally paint you with those goo-goo eyes." Watching his poorly hidden panic made you giggle, his eyes averting to somewhere to the right. "Actually I need you to keep your eyes up here, not over there."
Leon groaned and rolled his eyes before turning them to look back at the spine of the easel, doing his best to hold a lax expression. "You're making this difficult. You have the picture!" He complained, eyebrows raising as he gestured to the stand sitting next to you.
"Yeah but- sit still- you're making the same goofy look in it like you were before." Once he resumed his position, you walked over to him from the easel to get a closer look at his expression, humming softly all the while. Leon was beginning to sweat, mostly due to having to sit still for as long as he had but now partially from your sudden proximity.
After getting a good look, you walked back over to the easel to continue painting, to which he let out a small sigh. He wanted to get to know you more, he should've tried that before you started the actual painting, but better late than never.
The man kept quite for roughly thirty minutes longer while you added smaller details to his face on the canvas, using probably the thinnest paintbrush he's ever seen.
"Is that thing even adding paint to the portrait? Or are you just pretending to get me to sit here longer?" There was that suggestive tone again, and maybe it was your mind playing tricks on you as they began to strain, but you could've swore he did that cheesy eyebrow wiggle at you.
You shook out your arm to give it a good stretch before placing it back where it was. "It's doing something. Don't get your panties in a bunch."
Leon threw his head back with a laugh at your response, causing you to give him a quick glare before huffing out your annoyance. "Alright, clearly you're growing antsy. Let's take a short break." You stood up from the swivel chair and rolled your shoulders back, cleaning off your paintbrush with the solvent sitting next to you in a small mason jar. You had a couple of the windows open due to the fumes of the paint and solvent, so no worries there.
"Thank god..." Leon stood up with a loud and exaggerated groan. He wasn't young anymore, holding even a relaxed position like that was hard work on the body. "Thought I was gonna lose my legs." The dramatics this man possessed was funny, you had to admit.
"It's not that bad and you know it." You set down the paintbrush and turned around to see him mocking you with his hand. "Do I need to circle back to calling you a toddler? Cause I will."
Leon used the hand he was mocking you with to wipe across his eyebrow before letting his arm fall back to his side. "There's no need for extremes." Your lazy eyebrow raise at his response was all he needed to immediately follow up with "Sorry, ma'am."
It didn't sound genuine, but you'll take it. You nodded before walking over to the bathroom, scrubbing the paint from your hands to the best of your abilities. You had to use dish soap since oil paint was hard to wash off, that oily sheen was a pain in the ass when trying to hold a paintbrush.
The painting was really starting to come along. You worked fast while still remaining diligent. Oil paints were difficult to use, needing extreme patience due to how slowly it dried, how easily it could smear, and how hard it was clean off. No matter how nice you wanted to dress for Leon, you had to wear your painting outfit: A designated cheap and oversized outfit you picked out years ago for the sole purpose of taking a beating. You would wipe off your paintbrushes onto it to avoid having to use a paper towels or a rag each time.
Regardless, you were still as cute as ever to Leon. In fact, seeing you care so much about your work to be covered in paint was only making him fall for you more. Oversized clothes looked real good on you, so good that he'd been busy thinking about how you'd look in his clothes, hence that nearly blissed out expression you had to snap him out of earlier.
You both decided to sit over in the living area, Leon splayed out across the soft rug to give his joints a rest. He'd gotten a good look at how the painting was coming along before assuming his spot on the rug.
It was non-stop compliments from him. You could handle compliments, you've heard so many over the years regarding your art, but Leon's compliments were different. Instead of only complimenting the art, he decided to slip in little comments about you directly along side them.
"I went back to the White House over the weekend to look at the other portraits you'd done..." He started, head resting on his arms as they laid behind his head. "Just to get a feel for how mine would look once it's done."
"Is it living up to the standard so far? There's quite a bit more that needs to get done, and then it has to dry." You looked down at him on the rug, massaging your hand so it didn't cramp up more than it already had. "There's no standard for you to live up to, sweetheart. You could draw a stick figure and I'd be blown away."
You laughed at the suggestion, turning your head to look out one of the large windows to try and hide your smile. Wooing a painter was easy, apparently.
"You're just full of little accolades, aren't you, Mr. Kennedy?" You sighed, resting your chin in your hand as your elbow sat on your thigh.
"I can't help it. Being painted by such a pretty girl brings out the worst in me." Never in all your years of being alive had someone worked so hard to flatter you. Every single comment he made included something that had you flustered and struggling to respond.
Leon sat up on his elbows and looked over at you, that smirk as clear as day. He loved the way you could barely handle yourself at his compliments. "What're you thinkin' 'bout over there, angel?"
You let your hand fall into your lap as you looked back at him, giving his smirk a soft smile in return. "I could ask you the same question, calling me all these nicknames and such." It was only fair of you to ask, curiosity getting the better of you.
A little caught off guard, Leon hummed and pursed his lips, eyebrows furrowing slightly as he thought. What was he doing, exactly?
"Well, whaddya think I'm doing?" Yeah, that was good. Instead of answering himself, he'll just drag it out of you. "Well, if I didn't know any better, I'd think you're flirting with me." Your smile turned a bit more mischievous as you leaned towards him.
"Well, you'd be absolutely right, then." He responded with a chuckle, lowering his volume so he could fall right back into a seductive tone. "I got lucky enough to get my own painting. Even luckier to have you be the one painting me."
You gave him a small "mhm" as you nodded your head slowly, your tongue peaking out to wet your bottom lip as you listened to him talk. It took awhile, but eventually you managed a reply. "So... what exactly are you looking to do with all that sweet talk, hm?"
"Take you out on a date." His response was fast and it caught you off guard. Leon was so forward with what he wanted. When it came to the few people you'd dated in the past, you had to practically drag any sort of info from them. Your silence had brought him to sit all the way up now, body facing you as he sat with his legs crossed. "Is it working at all?"
It took a couple more seconds for you to nod, moving your hand to cover your mouth as you giggled. "Yeah, I think it is. Might need to keep it up just in case, though."
"Bummer, now I get to distract you even more while you paint me?" You stood up and placed your hand flat on his face, gently pushing his head back as you walked past him. "I'll paint on you if you distract me."
The session lasted a total of five hours, pausing for a couple breaks in between. You were now thoroughly painted out; hand cramping, eyes straining, and even with the windows open the smell of the paint and the solvent to clean it off the brushes had given you a slight headache. Leon was definitely tired also, given he actually fell asleep in the chair.
You decided to call it a day at that, patting him on the shoulder to wake him. "Time to get up and take your meds, old man." Leon startled awake, sucking in a harsh breath through his nose as he reoriented himself. When did he fall asleep?
You had already walked into the bathroom to wash your hands off, giving him the opportunity to wake up enough to stand. He yawned, walking over to look at how far along you'd gotten.
The painting immediately pulled him from his sleepy state, eyes widening with shock. You said you still had quite a bit left to do and it looked like this? It was like you'd ripped this straight from the 17th century. Leon was in awe. He looked good in this- no, far better than good. You'd captured his likeness better than the photo.
Seeing the man staring at your painting with his jaw dropped after walking out of the bathroom made you smile. "You like it?" You asked quietly while shaking your hands out as you hadn't dried them off all the way.
"No, I love it. You've got magic in those hands of yours, sweetheart." Leon crossed his arms, walking over to stand right in front of you. You clicked your tongue at him before your hand in front of him dismissively. "I wouldn't say it's magic, just years of drawing and painting endlessly until I got to the spot I wanted to be."
Leon closed his eyes and shook his head playfully, chuckling as he did so. "So humble of you." He followed you back over to the easel, watching you cover up the paints you were using with curious eyes. "About that date..."
You cocked an eyebrow, looking up at him through your eyelashes as you continued to carefully cover your paints. "What about it?"
"Just wondering when and where you'd want to go." The man grinned at you lazily, doing his best to disguise how nervous he actually was. "Hmm.." You glanced over at the wall clock you had sitting far above the light switches next to the entrance door, taking note of how late it was. "I'm pretty tired and I'm sure you are too, but how about we order something to eat here?"
Leon seemed surprised by your suggestion, grin widening as he nodded vigorously. "Plus, I am not going out looking like I just got assaulted with a paintball gun."
The two of you decided on something easy; pizza and soda. Leon opted to wear one of your many aprons to avoid getting any grease on his suit which made for an easy joke about him being a house-husband. Even though it was a technically a first date, both of you felt so comfortable with each other already, like you'd known each other for years. It was strange, but in a good way.
Leon was easy to get along with once he opened up. He really was a charming guy, even managing to get you to laugh with those corny ass dad jokes he loved so much. How such a man had gotten away with being single for so long baffled you.
The same went for you. Leon felt like you being single was just a fluke. There was no way someone as talented and gorgeous as you hadn't been swept off your feet yet. It was selfish of him for thinking it, but fuck was he ecstatic about that.
It was about 11pm when the two of you decided to call it a night, the hours spent bonding over random, seemingly meaningless stuff had really loosened both you and Leon up.
"Am I able to come back tomorrow and see you?" Leon asked in such a soft voice, motorcycle helmet in hand as he the other rested up against the doorway leading out of the building. He felt vulnerable for wanting to see you again like this.
"I won't be here tomorrow, need to give my hands a bit of a break." You giggled quietly, holding your palm out in front of him for emphasis. "But I can give you my address if you want to visit. I don't mind."
Those butterflies in his stomach fluttered at your proposal, barely able to nod after feeling his phone vibrate in his pocket once you texted him your address. He tried to act confident, having gone over every scenario possible in his head, yet you'd gone off script and he wasn't quite sure what to do anymore.
Seeing how flustered he'd become, you waved him closer, smiling as he bent over slightly. Leon thought you were gonna whisper something to him, that thought alone had him blushing, but feeling the gentle press of your lips against his had him struggling to breathe. He barely had a chance to react before you pulled away, his lips parted slightly as he stared at you.
You reached up and gently patted his cheek, running your hand along the stubble that had started to grow back. "Let me know when you wanna come over tomorrow, alright? Give me a little time to get dressed. I've looked ratty enough around you."
Leon wanted to protest that statement, you were far from ratty, but you just shushed his stuttering and nudged him out the door, giggling as he stumbled down the steps. He kept turning his head back to look at you every couple steps, feeling like some lovesick teenage boy who couldn't get his feet to work.
He was a little scared to drive home considering how uncoordinated he felt, but he made it back in one piece. Once sat on his bed, all he could think about was you and that damn painting. Leon didn't know what he was expecting when it came to that, honestly, but you seriously outdid yourself in his eyes.
Then you just had to flirt back with him, agree to a little date, and kiss him? Do you even know how hard it was to hide his boner from you?
He really did feel like a teenage boy, a simple kiss having him harder than a rock. Not to mention the drive home was uncomfortable since he had to position himself just right on the seat or else the constant vibration from his motorcycle would seriously cause him to crash.
Leon was weak. He hadn't felt this way in such a long time, but he guessed the newfound attraction came with the subconscious acceptance of his retirement. It's what made sense in his head.
God did he want you, masturbating in the shower to you wasn't enough, he needed you. All he could think about was your soft hands touching him, his hands all over your body, maybe even those pretty eyes of yours looking into his as he loved on you all night long.
The age gap was a bit of a worry to him in the beginning, mostly being insecure about his own age, but that worry was quickly brushed off when you kissed him tonight. You were a big girl. You knew what you wanted.
Leon felt so lucky that you reciprocated. All he'd felt since his retirement was grief, guilt, and pity for himself. Now you had him feeling like he was on top of the world and he couldn't ask for anything more. This little bit of sweetness in his life was so enticing, and of course he was going to follow it for as long as you'd let him.

Okay Cherry if this is any good indulge me by going wild with this prompt loosely based on my life at work. If it's not good then this never happened lmaooo!
Picture this, Eren works as a salesmen for whatever company you want and one of his charges has a sweet secretary type who always starts off the phone call real formal but then slips into this cheery, almost flirty tone as she rattles on about her bad knee or the latest video game or her yarn order out for delivery last she checked 20 minutes ago (a lil self-indulgent, i know).
He always indulges her and even shares some insights on his life too so now they have each other's sun signs, favorite color, and worst month before she passes the call over to her boss to make the weekly orders.
But one week he's in her city, kinda like a "stop in and say hi to your clients/rep the company" type of deal and he finally sets eyes on the sweetheart who always has a comeback for whatever silliness she gets him to say and dammit if this man didn't almost fallover when he sets eyes on that pretty face. And fuck him side ways when he catches her retreating to the back room. He'll obviously be around the next day around closing time to hopefully take the little lady out (and give her the deepest backshots) before he has to fly home next week.
AHFHDHRJDGSHS babes your mind!!!! >>>>>> this is so genius!!! 🫠🫠🫠 I hope I can do it justice tbh because this has my wheels turning! And thank you for all the beautiful asks you sent me, I’m so sorry it’s taken this long for me to get around to them. But I promise I will be answering them all VERY soon!! 🥹🫶🏾
Eren always strived to be the best at what he done. Whether it was athletics or academics, he always excelled above his peers in every area. The same applied once he was hired as a salesman for the Mercedes Benz dealership in his city. It didn’t take long for the young associate to find success in his career field. From his devilish good looks to his suave charm…possessing the gift of gab that could sell flames to the devil. It didn’t take long before he was the highest earning employee in not the district but soon the region. In a year’s time, he had worked his way up to regional manager and oversaw the entire store.
it came with big responsibilities but even bigger perks. He got to travel to all these places on the company’s dime. Stay in lavish hotels, work poolside and even party all at their expense. But it was to be expected of a young, handsome bachelor like himself. Even so, he was as cautious as he was reliable. He worked hard to maintain his standing but he’d be lying if he said he didn’t long for the companionship of another person as well. Luckily for him, he found it in the form of someone he’d least expect. While sifting through a new client list for potential tools and parts for the auto repair team, he came across one that he had never seen before but soon, he’d become even more acquainted with them..or rather, the person who was always on the other end. Yes, the sweet, cheery voice of the babe who answered every phone call. The one who always addressed him as ‘sir’ or Mr. Jaeger and would relay his messages with efficiency along with a ‘my pleasure’ in the most angelic voice he’d ever heard. One that sent flutters all throughout his body each time he heard it. Eventually, he had to know the name of the little lady who had him grinning from ear to ear as he sat with his feet propped up on his office desk. “And to who do I have the pleasure of speaking to, miss? I’d love to put a name to that beautiful voice.” Naturally, she divulges him and reveals her identity. “The name’s (y/n) (l/n). Of course, sweetheart and love suits me just fine.” As he had spoiled you with the sweet pet names. That you’d return with a quickness and send him into a blushing fit. Very unbecoming of the normally collected and stoic man. Eventually, he’d keep the conversations going on a bit longer than anticipated or allowed just to hear more from the once anonymous woman; finding solace, comfort and routine in hearing about work and personal affairs. Chatting it up with you long after the business side of things had been conducted.
time went on and the two of you had grown quite fond and accustomed to the regular phone calls that ensued almost three times a week at this point. Laughing and joking like old friends whom had known each other forever. “I swear, I call at least three times a week and you always answer. Do they ever give you a break?” “Poor things, they’d fall apart without me. Besides, it’s not all bad. I get talk to you so I’d say I’m pretty lucky.” Of course, he loved the flattery. You would find anything to speak on just to keep the conversation going. From your newest crochet project, to his recent acquisition of those new sneakers he’d had his heart and sights set on for a while. Everything from favorite foods, TV shows and colors were revealed in the calls. The funniest perhaps, may have been the topic of astrology and zodiac signs and he had not the slightest clue about that but by the next chat, he told you his sun, rising and moon and you couldn’t help but to chuckle at the fact that he could rattle it off so easily now. “What? A man can’t get curious? It’s interesting stuff.” “Absolutely. I just think it’s so cute. Maybe we can talk about it in person one day over some coffee.”
he holds you to that offer..about a week or so after that conversation when he pays a visit to your workplace as part of a client check in. Essentially shaking hands to maintain good relations with the vendors. But it wasn’t until he went up to the reception desk that he’d get the shock of a lifetime to learn that the pretty lady sitting before him was the one behind the beautiful voice that he chopped it up with almost daily. Big, bouffant curls, round glasses on that gorgeous face with a divine complexion and the most innocuous of eyes. His heart thudded and his face visibly flushed red when you told him your name and extended a hand to properly introduce yourself. It doesn’t take long for him to return it and with a kiss to boot. “I’m happy to finally put a face to that adorable voice.” Smirking as he proceeds to turn and address your other coworkers, who were mechanics and techs, but it’s when you get up to head to the back room; inviting him along under the guise that you had some paperwork for him to complete. And he follows with bells on!..
once you two are alone, all bets are off along with every article of clothing on your bodies. Propping you up on a countertop and grasping the backs of your thick thighs because they looked too good swaying in that tight skirt. Only after a very intense makeout session. Shoving your tongues into each other’s mouths as if you were long distance lovers and not perfect strangers. Even so, it didn’t let up there…peeling your top off and groping those beautiful tits that fit so perfectly in his palms. Taking those sweet little brown nipples into his mouth and suckling as you rode his fingers that he shoved knuckle deep into those thin lace panties. “Mr. Jaeger…” crying out so sweetly that it made his cock twitch in those slacks. Hastily pulling it out as he smirked against your lips. “Please, call me Eren, baby. We’re past the formalities, aren’t we?” And that much was apparent by the way he propped your leg on his shoulder and looked into your eyes as he finally slid inside of you and began thrusting up into you. Feeding you deep, long strokes without so much as a second of breaking eye contact. Your head fell back for a second and he secured it with a hand to the back of your neck. Moaning and whimpering but trying to remain quiet because you’d be fired on the spot if caught. “Eyes on me, sweetheart. Look at me while I fuck you..” spoken like a man who knew exactly how to handle a girl like you. Giving you the best dick you’ve had in ages and possibly ever!.. “you’re so tight..fuck.” Grunting as he buries his face into the crook of your neck. Leaving soft kisses along the curvature of it. You’d claw your freshly done nails into the flesh of his exposed shoulder blades; right over those tattoos he got done when he was younger. Begging him not to stop as he pounds your pussy relentlessly.
“Right there! Oh shit..” only retracting long enough to spin you around and hit you from behind. Leaving smacks on that big, plump ass that rippled with each stroke. How simple, innocent conversations about knitting and TV shows had turned into this juicy little love affair so quickly…you guys would never know. It could be attributed to the subtle flirtation or the bubbling sexual tension that could no longer be ignored by either party. Regardless, the two of you were knee (or balls) deep rather into this illustrious rendezvous. From the counter top to the coffee table where he fed you collapsed backshots. The whole thing went on until you both reached your peaks. “C’mere, baby. On your knees” ushering you to your feet so that he could paint that pretty face and tongue with his nut. To which he’d kiss you afterwards..
needless to say, he was quite smitten with you after that day. Even having flowers delivered to your desk before you arrived for your shift. Rather than communicating via company lines, you exchanged phone numbers and started texting. Where he phoned you up and invited you out to a nice dinner. Underneath candlelight at the finest Italian restaurant in town. He was a complete and total gentleman, who made that week one of the most memorable you’ve ever had.
something told you it wouldn’t be the last you’d see of the smooth talking salesman

“Caring Is Creepy” - The Shins
The world ended the day after you bought your homecoming dress, a long deep forest green sequined sweetheart a-line gown. Chosen by you because the neckline perfectly showed off your prized gold daisy pendant. The biggest issue of September 26, 2003 was turning in your biography of Renoir for AP English and remembering to grab your guitar out of your locker after art club. Little did you know that as you walked home after school with your headphones on and your guitar in hand, you were hearing the last lyrics that you’d ever hear before everything changed.
“Hold your glass up, hold it in
Never betray the way you’ve always known it is
One day, I’ll be wondering how
I got so old, just wondering how”
Twenty years later, hardened by life in the Denver Quarantine Zone and gently softened by your now comfortable life in Jackson, you’re still waiting for your first dance.
Life has always revolved around art and music for you, never allowing anything to take away your creativity. You create for yourself using art as a way to soothe your thoughts and anxieties, you create for the Settlement of Jackson to give back to the town that has given you a good life for the past five years, and most importantly you create for your students at the school you’ve taught at since your arrival.
Teaching was never your idea for a career, much preferring the company of animals to kids. You always planned to escape your small Colorado mountain town and move to Denver to attend veterinary school… then the cordyceps came for everything. You did find your escape in Denver, though it wasn’t to grow up and find new friends and learn new things, it was to survive… everything and everyone else gone besides your protective neighbor Helen, your school backpack, and art club messenger bag.
The fifteen years spent in the Denver QZ tried to steal your colors and mute your songs, joy becoming more difficult to find as each year behind those giant iron gates passed. The only happiness being supplied by your small group of friends and your students in the desolate school you spent ten years teaching at, only working there because you were young and still remembered most of your high school education.
You arrived in Jackson five years ago. Taking the opportunity to leave Denver happening when Helen’s sister made contact, the two of you escaping through the wasteland of the world for a better life up north.
Now, your life has color, supplied by the paint you make or what the patrollers bring you back.  Your life has music from the CD player in your house and your guitar you strum. Jackson has filled your life with so much purpose, your weekdays spent teaching your impressionable students, your Satrudays spent working at the library you run by yourself out of your classroom. Yes, it's comfortable here, you spend your evenings with your mismatched art supplies and song book, but once the moon sits high atop the mountains, your nights are spent alone with only your cats Ripley and Penny in your small cottage. Laying in bed every night you try to silence the thought that there’s nobody in your life who creates beautiful things for you. Too many nights you find yourself thinking about the man that lives down the street from you… Joel Miller.
He’s so intimidating, beautiful and caged off, like an art piece you’d pay admission to be able to stand near. The most handsome face you’ve seen, soft and full lips always hidden under a frowning mustache resting below his large hooked nose, his brown eyes always focused forward in thought underneath his furrowed brows. Dark brown wavy hair matching his eye hue with gray streaks painted throughout. A strong and broad body hidden underneath his tan flannel lined jacket, tall and big, so big, somebody you’d imagine was born a protector. His hands, also large to match the rest of his features, capable hands that you can tell are efficient of any task you ask of them, thick yet dexterous and handy. His skin golden toned, born that way and bronzed by years spent outdoors. You sketch him in your notebook, your precious pages being depleted by trying to master the lines on his face. Maybe you could get the minute details if only you could stop being so afraid of the feelings he stirs inside of you.
You’ve been enamored with Joel since he first showed up to Jackson, your life, and everything you’ve tried to avoid for years, being upended by the presence of one handsome stranger. Walking into the Tipsy Bison to drop off some extra shoelaces and push pins for the community swap basket, your eyes dart over to the long communal table where Maria and Tommy are seated with two strangers. Your first spot a small teenage girl with a tight pony tail and a tattered sweatshirt talking animatedly with her mouth full. Sat next to her bent over a plate of stew untamely clutching a fork is a man with a curly mess of graying hair and a permanent scowl plastered on his handsome face. You note his strong jaw as he chews his food, his eyes stare straight forward void of kindness, you wonder when was the last time somebody created something beautiful for him. You know then he’s the most handsome man you’ve ever seen, so intimidatingly sized and looming even in his seated and hunched stature. You quickly flit over to the corner where the basket is and deposit your items. You turn around to head back to your home when you notice the handsome stranger looking at you. His eyes dart away and you make your hasty retreat out of the tense room. You go home that night and write a song about a once warm and inviting cabin sitting in the woods now cold and desolate with tattered floor boards and a cracked window.
That girl you see at the Bison with him, Ellie, shows up in your class the next week. She quickly becomes your favorite student thanks to her love of art and her smart mouth. She’s always eager to learn in the mornings before heading out with the other older kids for patrol and community training. She doesn’t shut up about your handsome stranger, Joel, he’s from Texas, he’s grumpy, he hates scrambled eggs. He’s not her father, but he’s her protector, everything she tells you makes you think about him more.
Sometimes you’ll pass him on the street, always tucking your head down and continuing to your destination eyes planted on the ground. One night you see him with Tommy at the Tipsy Bison in the corner drinking whiskey, your eyes staring unblinking before you realize how anyone could look over and see the way you’re ogling, quickly making up a reason to your friends why you need to head home. Seeing him stirs up so many foreign emotions inside of you, but you like the rush. You like having your little crush, as long you can keep your distance from him.
“Jeez, what were they thinking when they named those bands? The Shins? The Strokes? The Yeah Yeah Yeahs? Did every band just pick a random word and put The in front of it?” Ellie questions as she peruses your CD collection while you grade papers. With training for the older students cancelled due to the Winter snow outside, Ellie decides that you needed company.
“Seems like it, doesn’t it?” you answer. “I’ll have to play them for you one day, those were some of my favorite bands when I was your age.”
“Really? Wicked! I’d love that!” She excitedly says smiling at you. You return her smile, happy for the bond that the two of you share.
You look back down to continue grading papers as Ellie returns back to your CD book. “Joel loves music too, wonder if he’d like any of these,” Ellie mentions not noticing how your pen pauses at the mention of his name.
“I’m sure there’s something in there for everyone,” you tell her as you stand. “I think we should get going El, before the sun sets. You go head home while I close up the school.”
“Okay, thanks for letting me hang with you, this was really fun,” she says as she grabs her backpack.
“Of course El, see you tomorrow morning.”
“Bye, teach.”
As you watch her happily stroll out of the room, the thought plants in your head that she’s only a couple years younger than the age you were when the outbreak happened. You know she’s in good hands with Joel, but you also want to hold her closer and nurture her.
Winter turns to Spring and the sun stays up longer, allowing patrollers a better chance to scavenge and bring their finds back. There's a wish list posted in the Bison above the communal basket. Residents ask for a broom, a TV input cable, a glue gun, crayons, other utilitarian items to help make life easier. You think about writing down the one thing you wish for the most, a new CD player. Your prized possession finally spinning its last song a couple of days ago making your home much quieter without your constant companion of music. The irony not lost on you that your just as old guitar lays silent against the wall, the crack on the neck finally breaking from overuse and rendering it useless. You don’t write down your main wish, instead writing down that the school needs chalk and you need a new oven mitt.
“Thought I told you not to touch my stereo kid,” you hear the deep timbre of a Texas accented voice behind you. It causes your heart rate to rise and goosebumps to spread along your body. You freeze in your seat on the floor as you try not to let your internal panic show. Joel is home. Of course he’s home, this is HIS home and you’re in it breaking HIS rules listening to your favorite mixed CD on HIS stereo system that’s much grander than your pitiful broken CD player. Why did you think this was a good idea?
“I know! Relax! I’m being active in the community like you asked me to,” Ellie responds as you both turn your heads to look up at him. His deep brown eyes bore right into yours, he gives you a half smile as you stare back at him mouth slightly agape. Joel Miller is in Joel Miller’s house with you.
“This is the teacher I told you about, her stereo broke and I know how important music is to her… kinda like how it is to you… I invited her over so she could play me some of her stuff,” Ellie reasons as you start to pack your backpack up and stand.
“Mm,” Joel grunts out before turning to you and reaching his hand down. “Nice to meet you, I‘m Joel.”
His big hand envelopes yours as you softly grab it to say hello. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to overstep any boundaries. I really appreciate her offering to help me. My stereo broke a couple days ago and she knew it upset me.” You nervously stammer feeling like a 13 year old in trouble again as you begin to fiddle with the gold daisy chain around your neck.
“Don’t worry, about it, please,” he urges looking over at Ellie, “I can of course look past it kid if it means you’re getting out of that damn garage.”
“She has way better music taste than you have old man. None of that twangy sad music you like.”
You start to feel antsy as Joel crowds the small space around you.
“Thank you for this, Ellie, I really appreciate it, I do need to head out though, I promised Helen I’d help her at the Tipsy Bison.” You’re not due for another hour but you can’t fathom the idea of being in Joel’s house with him inside.
“Oh, okay. Well, you’re welcome back whenever you want, right Joel?”
“Uh— of course. S’pose any friend of Ellie’s is welcome here,” Joel hesitates with a smile, his deep brown eyes crinkling in the corners.
“Thank you again Ellie, I’ll see you tomorrow, make sure you bring your notebook,” you say as you turn to walk out the door.
You smell the distinct woodsy smell of Joel’s house on your clothes and you hope it’ll linger for awhile. You almost trip when you realize you’ve left your favorite mixed CD in Joel’s stereo.
Weeks pass, and the weather gets warmer. Your mixed CD is now a victim of your inability to be anywhere near Joel. Either Ellie decided to keep it for herself, or Joel's decided you don't want it back. It's actually kind of a nice feeling, like old times when you'd forget a CD in your friend's car or in your locker over Winter break. It's not like you have anything to play it on still, your house is still silent, save for the purring of your cats or whatever song you can hum to yourself.
It's a day hotter than usual in the Spring and all you can think about is getting home and taking a long bath after helping out at the community garden. Your hurried footsteps pitter patter against the warm asphalt in front of Joel’s house. Your heart always begins to race as it comes into view, once in awhile you'll get to steal a glance of him leaving for patrol at the same time you're heading to school, you like those mornings. Today you’ve certainly lucked out. There he is, in his yard working on repairing a broken fence post. Your steps begin to slow as you see him set the hammer down, wipe the back of his hand across his sweaty brow, and stretch his back. You panic at the sight. The thought of him seeing you in the state you’re currently in, skin all sweaty and covered in dirt with your hair a mess. You pick up your pace not seeing the divit in the road. A trip and a fall ends with you landing hard on your stomach and knocking the wind out of you. You can just make out the sound of heavy boot steps over the noise of you gasping for air.
“Whoa whoa whoa, you okay darlin’?” Joel asks as he bends over, his broad body looming above you. “S’alright, s’alright, breathe.”
You look up at him, and notice how the sheen of sweat against his skin makes it glow almost golden, the freckles on his neck underneath his gray t-shirt more prominent in the sunlight. You’ve never seen him without a jacket or flannel, and now you get to see how his biceps strain the fabric of his short sleeves when he reaches out to put a comforting hand on your shoulder. You can’t tell if you’re still panicking from your fall or the stress of Joel seeing you as pathetic as you think you look. He called you darling and you feel like a fool.
“I’m okay. I’m sorry. I’m okay.” You gasp out as you try and stand up before it hurts too much and you let out a whimper from the pain.
“Hold on, hold on, there’s no need to rush, you took a mighty fall. Ya’ got a big cut on your knee, let me help you.”
“No, no, I’m okay really, I… I’m really okay.” You try to calm yourself, losing terribly against your raising embarrassment.
“S’alright now, I have some peroxide and bandages in my house, Ellie’d kill me if she knew I left you injured.” Joel implores as he reaches his hand out. "I want to help you, come here."
“I— okay,” you grab his hand, “I— don’t want to bother you.”
“Now, I’ll have none ‘a that, come on.” Joel helps you stand and steadies you with an arm around your waist, the adrenaline of being as close to Joel as you are now making the pain fade.
You slowly make your way up his walkway, Joel's hand splayed against your stomach, your head close enough to feel the dampness of his sweaty shirt against your cheek. The realization not lost on you that now you're headed back into his house for the second time.
“Here you go,” Joel says as he helps you over to his couch. "Just relax for a second, I’ll go grab everything."
You take a look down at your bare legs, marred by dirt and gravel bits mixed with your blood. Nice job, one knee doesn't look good at all.
The last time you were here you were far too anxious to focus on anything besides Ellie and the music coming out of Joel's stereo. Your solitude now allows you a chance to look closely at Joel’s living room.
For somebody with so many stories swirling around town about his gruffness and irritability, his home sure is warm and inviting. Wood carvings on shelves, a couple of old sports magazines stacked on the coffee table, a chipped owl mug sitting atop a book on the side table next to a chair. Very domestic and comfortable for a single man and his adopted daughter, you like it.
Your eyes roam along his walls, pausing where you spot a painting of yours hung up near the front window. How did he get it? You’re sure you traded it to Tommy for a small flask of whiskey a few months ago.
“Don’t have any large bandages but I got a gauze roll,” Joel startles you as he takes a seat on top of the coffee table across from you.
“That’s my painting?” You question aloud surprising yourself.
Joel turns and follows your eyes to the small piece of paper on his wall. “S’good. Had a painting like it above my bed before… everything. Saw it on my brother’s wall and asked him if I could have it. Reminds me of my old home and my life before… everything.” The last word coming out as a huff, like he still doesn't know what word to use for the last twenty years.
“They remind me of home. I was always drawn to painting the wildlife I grew up around,” you say as your eyes remain on your painting. “Herds of elk used to live near my Dad’s home in the mountains, I used to hear their calls during the mating season.”
“S’nice to remember those small moments, and I guess your painting helps me.” Joel admits as he delicately lifts one of your legs up into his lap, your attention returning back to the reason why you’re here. You feel the soft strength of his thighs cradle your leg, your heart feels like it’s going to burst out of your chest, you rapidly breathe in and out hoping he blames your panic on the threat of the peroxide.
“S’gonna sting,” Joel says as he tips the bottle and pours the clear liquid onto your knee. Your breath catches in your throat as it hits your sensitive kneecap. Joel bends forward and gently blows on your wound, you suppress a whimper feeling slightly dizzy when he glances up at your face. “Doin’ alright?"
You nervously chew on your bottom lip and nod. “Yes, sure, yes,” you mumble, “I-I’m okay it just hurts a lot to move them.”
"That asphalt is a sucker," he gently reassures as he picks up your other leg and places it on top of his lap.
“S’bouta sting again,” Joel warns.
The peroxide lands on your knee as you still try to control your breathing. You focus your thoughts on the burn and not on Joel’s fingertips resting against the depression on the back of your knee. You’re sure your lightheadedness is only from his touch. He blows on the peroxide as it bubbles again,  your heart skipping a beat when his deep brown eyes meet your eyes. You sense that he knows exactly why you’re responding the way you are. His brows furrow as he picks up the bandage, focusing on the task at hand, lifting your knee higher to begin wrapping it.
“Place a finger here so I can wrap your knee,” Joel instructs you, his direction just as gentle as his touch. “Let me know if it’s too tight for you.” His hand tightens around your knee as he uses his other hand to slowly unravel the gauze around your leg. “How’s that?” He asks as he places your wrapped leg back on the floor and lifts your other leg higher to start on it.
“Feels good, thanks,” you say as you bend it back and forth.
“'Course.”
You place your finger on top of the other bandage without Joel asking, he smirks at your help as he begins to wrap the gauze around your other leg.
“I’d try to take it easy the next few days, give you a chance to heal,” Joel utters as he tucks the gauze in and smooths it down.
“I know, I will,” you say as you move your leg out of Joel’s hold and put it on the floor. “Thank you, again for all of your help. You really didn’t have to.”
“Please, you don’t have to thank me. Like I said, Ellie’d kill me if she found out I left you hurt in front of my home,” you both share a smile at the mention of her name. “She sure talks about you a lot. Should be thanking you for giving her a reason to love goin’ to school. I’m thankful for you being there for her.”
“She’s one of the best parts of my day," your cheeks heat as he secondhand compliments you.  "I love having her around, she’s always so eager to learn."
“M’glad to hear you like her as much as she likes you. She's always showing me some new art way she learned from you or talking about a band she wants to hear that you told her about.”
Your smile grows as you hear how much you matter to Ellie, especially spoken out of Joel’s lips. “I didn’t know I meant that much to her. She’s a special kid.”
“She is.”
You both nod and smile at each other, the moment turning more awkward as you both maintain eye contact. It feels like he’s looking at you under a microscope, as you softly clear your throat.
“Well, I should get going, I’ve already taken up enough of your time. I really appreciate everything,” you cut the tension as you start to stand from the couch.
“S’no problem at all.” Joel quickly gets up and places a hand on your back to help you steady yourself while you move towards the door.
He opens it and helps you down his walkway, still keeping a hand on your back. You glance over at his abandoned tools strewn across the lawn. “I hope I didn’t keep you from finishing your fence.”
“I’ll manage. Take care of yourself.”
“Thanks Joel, you too.”
You try to walk as confidently as you can towards your home as you feel his eyes follow you. You’ve never been so thankful to see your little cottage, escaping behind the protection of your front door.
That night you paint another photo of an elk, this time with golden toned fur and deep brown eyes.
Saturday mornings are always busy for you, never allowing you the luxury to eat pancakes at the mess hall like everyone else on the weekends. Usually you're always turning to the left while everyone takes a right heading to breakfast as you're rushing towards the schoolhouse to start setting out books for the library. This Saturday you’re moving slower thanks to your injured knees and the large box of books that patrol have brought you from their runs.
“Mornin’," Joel says as he quickly heads towards you from the mess hall exit. “Lemme take those for you.”
“Oh, Joel, hi,” you pause in your tracks as he stops in front of you and grabs the box out of your hands. “You really don’t have to take—"
“None ‘a that,” he shushes as he effortlessly lifts the books higher. "Where are we going with these?"
"Oh, just over to the school house for the library."
Joel nods as you both head towards the school, Joel slowing his gait to walk alongside you.
“How are the knees doing?”
“A lot better, thanks.”
“Glad to hear.”
You fish the key out of your pocket, unlock the door, and let Joel follow you down the hallway to your classroom.
“Just right in here. You can put the box on my desk,” you say as you turn on the lights on.
He walks in and places the box on your desk. You notice the way his eyes roam around the bright mural on the wall you’re currently standing in front of. “Wow,” he says moving his eyes to yours. “I haven’t seen something like this in a long time.”
You smile at him then turn and face the mural. “Goodness, thank you. I just finished it a couple of weeks ago. I really wanted to make sure the kids had something fun and colorful to focus on while in my class. It was hard working in this plain room.”
Joel slowly walks over and places his hand on the cold cinder block wall. “Bluebells. Texas’ flower,” he faintly whispers.
You watch him as his large finger traces the outline of your painted indigo petals. You feel like you shouldn’t be allowed to see such gentle tenderness coming out of such hard and strong hands. You remember how delicately he touched you as he bandaged your knees. You realize that there once was softness surrounding all of Joel, the permanent grimace and rough reputation for him brought on by the harshness of the world he now lives in.
He feels your eyes on him and turns to you. “Where you from?” he asks, curiously gazing into your eyes.
“Colorado… I was in the Denver QZ.”
“No, where were you from before everything?”
“Sorry, still Colorado, just more in the mountains,” you say focused on the columbine next to the bluebell. “Florissant to be exact. It’s a little town famous for dinosaurs. My students love to hear all about dinosaurs. I was very lucky to be where I was when everything… happened.” You grab your daisy chain and hold it between your fingers as you look over to meet his eyes focusing on you.
“S’a nice state. Went skiing there once as a teen, had plans to go again before… everything.” Joel turns to focus in on the bluebells again.
“Big of a Texan to compliment Colorado,” you joke as you grab your library supplies from your desk.
He smiles a genuine smile, forehead wrinkling as he chuckles and shakes his head. “Good one. Did y’know you forgot your CD at my house?”
“Sorry about that. I figured Ellie just decided to keep it for herself. I don't mind, not like I have anything to play it on right now”
"I ended up listening to it. S’different music than I listen to but it's good. Had your name written all over it in Sharpie, forgot all about mixed CD’s.”
“I know I’m really fortunate to still have my CD’s, I don’t know what I’d do if I lost them,” you say as you begin to place down your hand painted placards on different desks.
“Can I help you?” Joel asks as he watches you work.
“If you’d like, just pick up a pile of books and put them on their respective tables. Children’s, Mystery, Romance, Non-Fiction, Sci-Fi, Miscellaneous.”
“You do this by yourself?”
“Usually, I sometimes have help but I think everyone here works so hard during the week they like their slow Saturdays, I can’t ask them to give up sleeping in.”
“Hm. Sleeping in. Must be nice. Can’t do such a thing. Ellie would sleep all day if I allowed her.”
“You’re right,” you say grabbing more books. “Must be nice. I’m wide awake at 5 almost every morning.”
A soft chuckle from Joel's mouth makes you hide a smile, you like when you make him laugh.
“I take it with a title like ‘Burning Tenderness’ it goes in romance?” Joel jokes. You like it.
“Well, I’d fire you on the spot if you placed it in non-fiction.”
The two of you expeditiously work around each other setting up the library finishing a half hour before its opening.
“I’ve never gotten done this early before. This is the third time you’ve helped me this week,” you say as you sit on the edge of your desk giving your aching knees a break. “I feel like I owe you something. Is there a way I could repay you for your generosity?”
“Those bluebells you painted,” he pauses and breathes out, “do you think you could paint some ‘a those for me on a wall in my house?” This is a new look for him, shyness, as he focuses back in on the mural behind you.
“Oh wow. I’d love to. I can start it anytime. Just let me know when you’d like me to come over.”
“D’you want to come over Monday after you’re done at the school? I told Ellie I’d spend the day with her tomorrow.”
“That sounds good,” you reply not believing your luck that Joel Miller is inviting you over to his house.
The two of you are stuck again in a silent agreement. Both of you not knowing what to say, yet also okay in the shared quiet.
“Should probably head out and start my day. Taking this as payment for my work today,” Joel says holding up a book.
“‘As I Lay Dying?’ Didn’t pin you as a Faulkner fan,” you say as you open your logbook to note the title down.
“Liked the horse on the cover.”
“It’s a good book. Enjoy it Joel.”
“See you Monday. Good luck today.”
“Yes, Monday,” you respond as you try not to smile too hard. “Thanks again for all your help.”
“'Course,” he says as he stands in the doorway, his large form taking up most of it.
Back home after a busy day you sit in your favorite chair and your cats on your lap and sketch bluebells until you fall asleep pencil in hand.
A/N: Thank you so much for reading! Chapter 2 will be posted within the next week. Obviously I’ve edited the timeline a bit. In my head, Joel and Ellie never went to Colorado. I know, I know, but like I said, I’m being selfish and want Joel to have his happy ending. If you’re looking for angst and/or conflict, this is not the fic for you. This is the story of Joel Miller’s ideal life after the past 20 years tortured him. Also, for all you smut nuts (!!!) chapter 5 or 6 will be explicit. I want them to take their time because once they sleep together, all bets are off.

tags: no minors, smut, pure porn, fluff (lil bit), angst, daddy kink bc y not maybe some innocence obvi but ya
it's the summer of 1980, porn was the ultimate career that anyone could get settled in. especially, if you're hot. Paris, adjusted her white tank pulling it down hoping to impress someone. she sat in a kind of dingy office, many men and women were around her. Paris had never done anything like this before, in fact she was a virgin. but loads of other girls make money this way, and she's interested in trying something new.
"Paris Smith?" her name was called, she stood up and walked confidently towards the door. in she walked into a tan room, a woman and a man sat in there.
she noticed a camera behind them, as she sat on the couch nervous. she picked at her nails, staring at them, they were talking about her.
"alright, sweetheart," the man spoke, he looked young. he was beautiful, blue eyes, long wavy hair, and the prettiest pink plump lips.
"lemme see your tits, baby," his voice interrupted, she took off her shirt. the man and the girl both looked at each other. his face, with a smirk.
"those are real right?" the woman asked, writing something down. Paris nodded her head before speaking.
"yes ma'am, I've had no work done," Paris smiled, quickly. the man nodded slowly.
"got some nice legs," he mumbled," take em off for me. real slow." his eyes pouring into hers. the woman was writing stuff down, watching you through her glasses at the top while the man never took his eyes off of her.
she turned around unbuttoned her shorts, before bending over and pulling them down, slowly. she turned her head to look at them, the man was admiring her almost. he thought she was gorgeous, how'd she get here? her tan skin dark against the white panties she had on, a pink bow sat on top of her panties, they were high cut. he shook his head looking down at the paper.
-tan
-young
-blonde
he only had three notes about this girl. he nodded at the woman next to him. she nodded, a tight lip smile.
"we'll call you,"
she huffed on her cigarette, anxiously waiting for the call. it's been three days, she wanted to know what was going on. something, anything. the phone rang, she ran towards the kitchen grabbing the yellow phone off the wall her hair flying.
"hello?" she asked, hopeful but nervous.
"Hi, is this Paris smith?" a woman asked, sounding cheerful.
"yes, ma'am. can I ask who this is?" Paris asked, chewing the inside of her cheek.
"yes this is, Karen. we met the other day," she started, "I wanted to contact you to let you know we've made a decision. "
"oh okay," Paris gulped, she wanted this.
"we've decided to take you on! you'll be with the man you met the other day. he'll be your scene partner most of the time. they call him, billy the kid. ya know the cowboy?" she laughed, shuffling playing in the background. Paris grinned, and did a small happy dance before responding.
"okay, awesome, when do I start?" Paris asked, trying not to sound too happy. that man she met the other day, made her feel some type of way plus he was hot.
"hold on, sweetheart. I have to get you introduced, a solo scene or two," Karen said, chewing on a piece of gum now.
"okay," she gulped now nervous, she's never done anything like this before. she's a virgin and and she's never touched herself so she can't imagine, she was fine because sex looked easy but that's different being on her own.
"so william, aka billy, is thirty years old okay? hope you don't mind too much, he was quite fond of you," Paris blushed, she thought he was her age.
"you've had sex before right?" Karen asked, Paris looked around before nodding.
"yes maam," Paris mumbled into the phone. Karen was sitting in the same room with William, he was listening to their conversation. he smirked, he knew she was a virgin.
'liar' he mouthed at Karen, she rolled her eyes ignoring him.
"okay sweetheart, come in tomorrow at 10am and we'll talk okay,"
Paris stood outside at a cheap motel, she grimaced to herself and looked around. hookers and drug deals all around her, she felt excited and it was only ten am. she double checked the paper that had the address and room number on it, she looked around before walking to the left side checking a few doors before climbing the stairs and finding the room. before she could knock, a naked girl ran out bawling her eyes, holding her clothes close to her chest. her eyes in shock as she looks inside a film crew and a bed, was really that was in there. she gulped feeling nervous, then seeing him. he smiled a welcoming smile before saying,"hope you're not taking her place yet, you ain't ready for this honey," he rasped, he wanted to see her reaction. she gulped, blinking her eyes slowly looking away. he laughed, her cheeks felt warm.
"you don't know what I'm ready for actually," Paris snapped, feeling annoyed this man is undermining her.
"ooh did I upset you?" he stood tall over her, she just now noticed he was shirtless, his chest and arms toned with a perfect size waist. her eyes searched his face before looking at his chest, again.
"no,-" before she could finish, she bumped into the bed and fell. she looked up at him, he crouched slowly not breaking eye contact.
"no, what?" he asked, brows furrowed slightly, his gaze seemed softer as he reached out to touch her hair. two fingers grabbed the ends pulling gently, then letting go.
"oh my God you're here! William leave that poor girl alone, you're not workin with her just yet," Karen walked up to her grabbing her hand and pulling her to the small bathroom.
Paris' cheeks were red, and William knew it. he smirked to him, watching her long legs take her away. she caught a quick glance, back at him. his eyes racking her body, before their eyes met and the bathroom door shutting.
"put on this white set, goes with your innocence then when you're done come out and we'll decide if you need some make up," Karen said eyeing her, "by the looks of you though, we won't need it,"
Karen shut the door behind her, leaving Paris alone. her long wavy honey locks reached her mid back, she looked at herself in the mirror feeling nervous and scared. she swallowed the feeling as her heart thumped hard in her chest. she sliding off her shorts then her tank top, sliding off panties. luckily she wore no bra, she slid the new white panties up her legs. high cut. she thought, she put the white lacy bra on. she noticed pink bows on the waist band, and in between the cups. Paris noticed how the white looked against her tan skin, she loved how it made her look. she grinned, looking at herself in the mirror. she turned around flipping her hair over her shoulder, she looked at her back and down. she looked hot, she thought.
a knock on the door, interrupted her. she opened it, Karen grinned and whistled slightly.
"you look so beautiful, doesn't she boys?" she pulled her out by her frail hand, Paris giggled as Karen spun her around. the men nodded, but William did nothing. he stared at her, before swallowing and looking away. Paris was kind of disappointed, she felt hot she wanted to know she looked hot.
"alright, let's see what you got. just touch yourself, and look at the camera okay? look pretty, and have fun." Karen led Paris to the bed, different sheets lay on the bed with different blankets. a white silk sheet, Paris crawled on the bed sitting on her calves. she watched as William stood farthest away, still sneaking glances.
"will is gonna watch, since he'll be your partner for the most part, and but if you want him to leave, just say so. you're the boss," Karen said, close to Paris, tapping her shoulder comfortingly.
"alright, andddd action!" Paris frozen but nodding to herself, she laid down on her chest on the bed. propping her ass up, arching her back. Paris flipped her hair to the side, before rolling over to her back. one of the cameramen picked up another camera getting a different angle, scanning down her body. she stared straight at the camera, she smirked biting her lip sliding her hand down to between her thigh whimpering touching herself ever so slightly. Paris sat up slowly, bending over her cheek laid on the pillow, her ass and pussy facing the camera, as she began rubbing herself. she was so into it, she didn't know what was going on. tom watched as she shamelessly rubbed her pussy, his cock hardened at the sight. what a star, he thought. he watched as Paris slid her panties down her legs, the other camera getting a close up as she ran her fingers between her wet folds. she moaned before sticking in one small finger gasping before doing another. William watched as his dick felt like it was about to explode. wet sounds squishing as she plunged her small fingers in and out of her, her body lay flat as she clawed at her tits. she cried out, pulling her now soaked fingers into her mouth sucking on them. she winked into the camera before their eyes met, her mischievous grin dropped and her cheeks turned before Karen handed her a robe covering her. everyone else started talking, looking at footage, or taking a smoke break.
"I can't believe I did it," Paris giggled to Karen as they smoked outside, the robe fell off of her shoulder before william walked out. he gestured for Karen to leave as paris' hair blew in the wind as she watched the palm trees blow around. the sky was Grey and the ocean wrecked the sand. Paris smiled at the view, before she noticed Karen wasn't there. william sat next to her, staring out.
"pretty ain't it?" his voice deep, Paris nodded.
"listen honey, If we're gonna work together I'm gonna need you to stop playing this nervous act. you can be innocent or whatever but we're gonna have to be cool before your pretty self sits on my cock," he sighed, looking over at her. she snapped her head towards him, he shrugged.
"I'm just sayin, honey," Paris was upset. how could be such an asshole? she thought, or well she thought she was thinking.
"I'm not the asshole, I'm being realistic. it may be porn but I try to enjoy it and you should too." william snapped, Paris scoffed. William looked over at Paris with a look of disgust.
"then why the hell was that girl crying when I got here?" Paris crossed her arms over her chest, Williams eyes went down to her perfect tits before laughing.
"because of an orgasm, I gave her. fucked her, stretched her, tasted her, she came everytime. the last time she started crying her eyes out saying,' I can't, no more,' " he rolled her eyes, shrugging, "one day soon that'll be you,"
"you won't be able to make me cum," she spat at him, brows furrowed as she puts out her cigarette smashing it into the metal fence.
"and for the record, I'm doing this for money. not for pleasure," she said, bitterly. William sucked in a breath before stepping over to her, towering over her small frame. she stood stall, not faltering. he smirked down at her, his hands gently reaching for the belt around her robe before pulling it open. the robe exposed her perfect body, she gasped trying to close it before william held it wide open only towards him though.
"I'll show you pleasure, babygirl," his voice rough and deep, "and you'll still get that money, maybe even more. I'll show ya how it's done," his eyes racked her body, over and over. taking in every detail.
he closed her robe back up, her mouth agape at him. he grinned, before saying, "baby, close your mouth before I close it for you," he laughed in her face, turning to walk away before saying,"you're a real star, by the way,"
"I can't believe him! of course, he's just a cocky asshole," Paris groaned into her bed, her roommate laughed.
"emphasis on cock, girl you're lucky. I've seen a couple of his films, and he is good. you can tell it's real," her friend, Rachel, grinned mischievous. Paris sighed, sitting up. maybe she should watch something of his so she knows what to expect?
"do you still have those films?" Rachel smirked, giggling.
"yes girl! they're hot as hell, here I'll get em," Paris sat up, her shorts wedging slightly and her big tshirt falling off her shoulder. Paris laid on her stomach waiting for Rachel, she thought about William. he was so hot, but twelve years older. Paris is freshly eighteen, it's a bit weird, but at least it's legal. she couldn't help but laugh out loud at her thoughts as Rachel entered.
"alright girl, I got billy the man and cowboy, which one?" Paris thought about it, cowboy seemed good to her but so did billy the man.
"you pick, you've seen em," she shrugged, Rachel nodded putting in a vhs. the screen went blue before turning black, then it opened to a scene.
william was in a bar, he was dressed as a cowboy. tight blue button up, with tight brown pants with cowboy boots, and a hat. Paris watched as he threw back a shot before the bar tender asked, "what else you'll be having?" it was a woman, she wore her dress low with heavy make up and big hair.
"you," suddenly William grabbed the woman and picked up the woman, as she placed kisses on his neck. he carried her over to a booth as he laid her down on her stomach, he yanked up her dressed before crouching down. he spread her cheeks open, before spitting on her pussy. he then quite literally devouring her, his tongue swirling around her clit, sucking on it, back to swirling his tongue up and down she pressed herself down on him. he spanked her, hard.
"mhm, no," he mumbled into her, pulling away. her moans and whimpers stop, as he pulls himself out of his pants.
"he's huge, rachel," Paris gaped, Rachel laughed clapping her hands. Paris watched as he fucked the shit out of that woman, she was screaming and clawing at him before he grabs her wrists planting them above her head. he leaned down to the woman's ear, whispering.
"such a fucking slut, you like that?" he plunged into her from the back, her screams loud as william moans.
"fuck, suck me now," he breathed, pulling out her hole clenching one last time.
Paris couldn't help but think about the aching feeling between her thighs. she was soaking, so wet than she'd ever been. surely, soaking through her shorts. she crossed her legs, rubbing her thighs against her heat. she couldn't help but wish that was her. the woman swallowed his largely endowed member almost all the way, she watched as William through his head back in pleasure. eyes screwing shut, as he came into her mouth. he pulled out of her mouth, a string of cum following.
then it ended, Paris knew she was fucked. she was so horny, she told her roommate she was going to bed before turning on the other film and touching herself. she came several times that evening, she washed her sheets and took a shower.
she was at a party hosted by the industry, she walked in a tight short black dress, and some heels. music bumped, people were doing coke, smoking weed, or just simply having a good time. Paris sat in the corner, before she noticed a man coming up to her.
"hey, I'm jessie," his southern accent smooth, she nodded and shook his hand that he put out almost instantly.
"paris," she nodded, she sipped her champagne looking around for anyone or anything.
"I love your new tape, you're gonna be a star," Jessie said, closer to her. Paris gulped, extremely anxious.
"yeah, she is a star." Paris knew that voice, it was him. she watched as Jessie nodded before walking away, Paris scoffed grabbing another glass downing it.
"woah, slow down, baby," william laughed, she glared at him. of course, he came over to be an asshole.
"why did you come over here?" Paris quipped at him, he shrugged grabbing a glass of champagne and sipping on it. his blue green eyes racking her up and down. he wanted to tease her.
"oh no reason, you look good tonight. not as innocent of course. white is more your color," he smirked, stepping closer. Paris looked up at him, smirking. two can play at that game she thought.
"yeah, well, billy the man, you look good as a cowboy," her pink lips etched into a grin, his knees felt weak. he arched up one eyebrow.
"why do you think I said you look good in white?" he asked her, his fingers gently touching her brushing her hair out of the way. his fingers touched her colar bone, chills appeared on her skin. she looked down, before gulping and replying.
"I've seen why they call you billy the man, and let's just say, I touched myself to you and creamed everywhere," she smirked at him, his dick hardened, as her panties filled. she cleared her throat, stepping back from william. the rock music played, lowly. the party had died down, they both didn't even notice, william, grabbed Paris pulling her away.
"where are we going?" Paris asked, nervously william ignored her. pulling her into a broom closet. he pushes her upgainst the wall, she gasps. her back to the wall as William stood over her. looking down, his eyes much darker.
"to show me, what'ya got," he leans down and kisses her, his lips enveloping her into him. her hands unsure where to go, slowly going up his chest, william impatiently places her hands up in his long wavy hair. his hands racking up her body, pushing up her dress, his toned arms picking up her from under her thighs shoving her deeper into the wall. she moaned into him as he started sucking on her neck, licking, and kissing. she cried out, he placed a hand over her mouth.
"shhh, be quiet, honey," he grinded, into her. she soaked against his crotch. surely leaving a wet spot on his pants, william didn't care. he wanted to feel her.
he grinded his hardened self into her, she threw her head back in pleasure whimpering into his ear, he moaned quietly. no girl ever made me feel like this and he wasn't even inside of her.
"fuck, baby, so wet for me." he rubbed her clit, her juices coating his fingers, he rubbed with his two fingers, in circles wanting her to cum.
"fuck, will- " he stopped her placing a hand over her mouth, "daddy, I want you to call me daddy,"
Paris suddenly feel like she couldn't control herself anymore. her eyes rolled in the back of her head, as she shook and clenched around nothing. he pulled her hand out of her panties, pulling his fingers into his mouth sucking her juices off holding eye contact.
"that was easy," he mumbled into her ear, amusement in his voice. he sat her down, before looking down at his pants, a wet spot right on his crotch. he didn't care, he honestly wanted to inhale the scent. Paris sat there unsure of what to do, clearing her throat. he planted a wet kiss to the side of her head. she shook her head.
"what about you?" she asked, quietly. he smirked, laughing.
"what about me? you want my dick in your mouth that bad?" he asked, scanning over her body again walking slowly towards her. her back hit the wall, again. she looked up at him, nodding.
"well, I came. do you not need to?" she asked, almost innocently. Williams cock was hard, too hard. he did need to cum, but he'll save it for their scene together.
"nah, I'm good, thank you though," he smiled quickly opening the door, he stopped. Paris peaked around seeing, Karen. fuck, they both thought.
Karen had her arms crossed, with a annoyed look on her face. it was obvious things happened between the two, no doubt.
"seriously? can't keep your dick in your pants for five fucking minutes?" Karen spat, then looking at Paris before sighing.
"come on, let's get you home. will, you and I will have to talk."
"save it for the cameras," Karen crossed her arms, "seriously. you don't need feelings getting involved,"
William scoffed, rolling his eyes before puffing on his cigarette. Karen stared at him disappointment, and slightly disgust.
"she's fine, we were just having a bit of fun," he didn't make eye contact with her, Karen groaned at him.
"she's young, will! she's practically a child who just so happens to be of legal age. you all have different mindsets, she's eighteen and you are a literal grown man. she is your scene partner, not your own flesh light." Williams nostrils flared, smashing his cigarette into the railing.
"oh my god, all you ever do is complain! she's young and? I was helping her out, is all. she threw herself at me, and yeah. I was into it, " william seethed stepping towards Karen, her back pressed against the railing, the salty air blowing.
"but, maybe I started it and I wanted it, wanted more." Karen pushed him back, glaring hard at him.
"save it for the fucking cameras or else," Karen walked away, her tight bun becoming unraveled slightly, her cotton blue suit feeling tighter than normal.
Paris was mad at William, she could've lost her job. she got $75 for her solo scene which is the most they give out at the time, she was satisfied with herself. she was cleaning the apartment, music played as she danced around the apartment. the phone rang, she ran into the kitchen grabbing it.
"hello?" she asked, it was quite till she heard him .
"hey honey, I need you today," william spoke, she rolled her eyes.
"for work?" she asked, william chuckled.
"yes, doll. Karen told me to call for her," Paris felt unsure, what if he was just tricking her.
"can I talk to karen?" she asked, almost embarrassed.
he scoffed before replying, "you don't trust me honey,?"
before she got to reply, she heard Karen's voice. she felt better knowing she was talking to karen about work rather than him.
"hey sweetheart I'm sorry it's so short notice but I need you to be here within the hour, come to this address okay?" Paris nodded writing down the address, nervousness bubbling in her. she was finally going to fuck billy the man. Paris felt like her heart was going go explode out of her chest in the back of the taxi. her nails pressing into her palms as hard as she could, her jaw was clenched and she stared out of the window. she passed palm tree after palm tree, looking out at the beach. the taxi came to a stop, they were at the beach entrance. her eye brows furrowed.
"we're here," the driver spoke, gruffly eyeing her from the rear view mirror. she handed him a twenty, before stepping out. the taxi pulled off fast, her sundress moving around her thighs. she walked down to the entrance, her flip flops covered in the hot sand. she couldn't help but smile at the salty air. the sun was beating down on her, she kept walking till she spotted Karen of course yelling at William.
"where is she!? the hour is almost up!" Karen looked so anxious and stressed, Paris sped up her walking speed.
"we have to start shooting, william, and if she's not here I'll have to call someone else," Karen frantically, swung her hands around as William turned out. his brows furrowed from the sun, he smirked at Paris. her dress was see through in the sun.
"hey good lookin," he called to Paris, karen screamed excitedly.
"you're here! fuck, go put on this suit okay? there's a small out house over there, we have to start shooting, like now! now go!" she shoved a red one piece bathing suit in paris' hands. it looked like the baywatch suits, Paris had always dreamed about being one of those girls. Paris nodded walking off, taking a quick glance at William. he was shirtless with short swim shorts on, his tan skin glistening, his broad shoulders, toned arms and chest. Paris quickly turned around meeting Williams eyes. he winked back at her, she could feel her cheeks heat up as she scurried off towards the outhouse. she pulled open the curtains, slipping her dress down her shoulders to over her hips to down at her feet. she slipped off her panties, sliding on suit. it fit her like a glove, and gave her breasts a push up look. the red suit extremely high cut, with her whole ass out. she couldn't help but feel extremely exposed, no one was at the beach where they were at but still. she felt nervous.
she picked up her panties and dress, walking out. she held her clothes in front of her, knowing her ass was out she wanted to feel covered a bit more. she walked over to the rest of the crew, william was the first to notice her but didn't say anything.
"you ready sweetheart? alright, so you're a life guard and william is.. a beach goer," Karen said, hesitantly.
"wait, isn't a cowboy like his thing?" Paris, asked her brows furrowing in confusion.
"baby, I'm all kinds of things," he laughed, Karen shook her head as Paris still looked confused.
"we wanted to try a different scene, see how yall both do," Karen smiled, rubbing paris' arm before loudly yelling, "let's get this show on the road people,"
Paris wanted to scream, or drown herself in the ocean. she could not believe this was happening, she stood in the water with her toes in the sand as William laid down on a towel. she was supposed to approach him, and start the scene. she was so nervous, but yet so excited.
"and, action!" a voice called out, two cameras from a far and another cameraman behind her scanning her face and body. she walked towards william was, he laid there with his eyes closed hands on his stomach. the cameraman followed closely behind her making sure to catch an angle of her ass and in between her legs. she cleared her throat at William, he peaked an eye at her open.
"sir, no sleeping on the beach," she said, standing a top of him. his blue eyes opened, a playful grin on his face. he chuckled at Paris, he sat up on his elbows.
"oh yeah? what are you gonna do about it, life guard?" he asked, a playful smirk on his lips.
Paris gulped, before responding.
"I could write you up?" Paris suggested, william laughed standing up.
"or we could forget it ever happened," he suggested, lowly. she looked up at him as his fingers traced her thighs, right up by her hip bones. she shuddered, william leaned down to her ear.
"I can't wait to finally feel you," he said, too low for anyone to hear but him and her. she gasped before william placed a wet hungry kiss to her parted lips, his tongue slipped in as she remembered what he liked. she kissed him back with the same energy, slipping her fingers in his waves. her tongue traced his tongue as his hands roamed her body, kneading her ass flesh to her back, to finally her tits. his thumb softly rubbing her hardened nipple, she let out a little whimper as william leaned down to her ear licking her ear lobe then his tongue tracing down to a spot below her ear. she moaned tugging on his hair. his left hand slowly went down her body, rubbing her. she threw her head back, moaning. william licked down her chest pulling her straps down, exposing her tan breasts her pink nipples hard against the salty cool air. she sucked in her breath, as william took a nipple into his mouth. she whimpered, this time she felt herself pooling in the suit. she looked at william with pleading eyes , his eyes met hers as he wrapped his arms around her pulling her onto the towel down with him.
Paris was so horny and william was full on teasing her, he had barely touched her as she was a moaning wet mess. william laid down on his back, pulling Paris on top of him. he groaned as she straddled him, she moaned feeling him against her.
"forgot about that write up huh?" he asked, his voice low a smirking playing at his mouth. she grinded against him, as billy looked up at her. he bit his lip, before pulling her lips to him again.
"mhm, slide your suit over baby," he said against her mouth, her hand slid down pulling her suit over. Williams hand played with her clit, rubbing in circles with his thumb while his other hand pulled himself out.
"you're gonna ride me baby, wanna see them pretty tits bounce," he said, she nodded. preparing herself as she placed herself on top of his tip, she was soaked no doubt but william was huge. her roommate said he looked about 9 or 10 inches. she gulped at the thought, she slid down him slowly. William groaned, loudly.
"s-shit, so fuckin tight," he mumbled, his eyes closing. Paris was in pain, but soon as she took him all in and adjusted he hit this spot. he felt her clench around him, he couldnt help but smile.
"so easy," he mumbled, as he wrapped his arms around Paris lifting his hips up taking over. his arms wrapped around her waist as her plowed into her, she screamed as william hit her g spot over and over.
"fuck, baby, you feel too fuckin good," he moaned into her neck, she threw her head back lost in euphoria. her juices coated his cock, dripping. William had lost himself in her, listening to her moans and whimpers. he quickly flipped them both over so he was top, pulling her legs above her head, he grabbed both her wrists pulling them above her head.
"want daddy to keep fucking you, honey?" he asked, pulling out teasing between her wet swollen folds. Paris felt like her body was on fire, she felt tired from cumming so much but she wanted to show she could do it.
"yes daddy, please, keep fucking me. I need to feel all of you," she moaned, william groaned before shoving all of himself into her at once. she cried out, her eyes closing. he let go of her wrists grabbing her jaw, her lips puckering.
"fuckin look at me while you take my dick," her eyes wide, tears brimming as william plunged into her over and over. she moaned loudly, william held her face, noticing her eyes watering.
"yeah, take it, baby. you gonna cum for daddy again?" his hand played with her clit while he fucked her. she felt all of him, she was losing her mind.
"yes daddy," his hand on her throat, applying slight pressure as he moaned into her.
"oh fuck, not gonna last much longer with you saying all that," Paris cried out, as william picked up his pace. yanking her on hips as he slammed into her, her legs wrapping around his tight waist. his large calloused hands under her back pulling her close, her head hung back mouth a gape. William moaned, as he became sloppy yet still quick. he pulled out, finishing on her naked body spread out all over. on her tits, stomach, and right above her swollen pussy.
william was out of breath, standing up before helping Paris up. Karen rushed over with a robe, before paris' legs shook so much she had to be steaded into william. Williams arms grabbed her, a laugh erupting from his lips. Paris' skin pink and sweaty, her hair a mess, her lips swollen but william thought she looked beautiful still. Karen placed the silky robe around her shoulders, Paris felt like she was going to fall over.
"wow, will, you really got her," Karen laughed, as Paris giggled quietly. william laughed, picking up the red suit. following behind the girls, william couldn't help but think about Paris. she seemed so innocent yet so sure of herself.
"how about we go and celebrate yalls first scene?" Paris drank a water bottle, slipping on her dress forgetting her panties. she didn't know where they went, she didn't know william had taken them.

Finally free of Hawkins Billy makes his way back to California after years away where he makes a special stop at his favorite diner.
Word count: 8925
No warnings!
“One all American breakfast, extra bacon, extra crispy, with a black coffee, extra hot. Banana nut French toast with a side of sausage and orange juice and an Ella’s original with water, coming right up.”
The sun had just barely made its home in the sky for the day yet the diner was already bustling, silverware on ceramic plates and chatter mixing into an ambient background noise that mingled perfectly with the wafting scent of brewing coffee and frying foods. Large windows let in unfiltered light to bathe the small diner in a natural glow and despite the early hour, most everyone seemed to genuinely be enjoying the welcoming atmosphere the building was bringing in, content, and some admittedly sleepy, faces all at peace.
“Thanks Hun, you’re the best.” A wrinkled hand held out the menus for you to grab, her other one patting the top of your hand in a silent ‘nice to see you gesture’ as you grab them.
“It shouldn’t be too long of a wait, most of the morning rush has been seated and served.” Tucking the menus underneath one arm you turn your attention to the toddler seated next to the older woman to ruffle his hair. “Would you like some crayons, little man?” Flipping the paper place mat in front of him over you pointed to the drawings and little mazes printed on it, all things he’d seen many times before but was nonetheless excited each and every time you showed him them.
“Here you go sweetheart.” The bell over the door chimed while you were grabbing the cup with worn down and, unfortunately, mostly broken crayons, so you call out over your shoulder that you’d be with whoever had just walked in, in just a minute. “Who’s the lucky person you’re coloring for this time?”
Having known the Hannigan’s from the summers you’d spent with your grandmother, you’d become quite familiar with their kids and in turn their grandkids and had several juice-stained pieces from Jackson pinned to the fridge in the kitchen of the restaurant. You didn’t get to hear his answer, the door chiming once more covering up the gentle reply from the timid kid so you just nod to pretend that you’d heard what he said and then promised to be back soon with their food and to check on his masterpiece.
By the time you made it back to the podium up front, no one was there to be found. A quick scan told you that whoever had come in had either gone to the counter to pick up an order or had gotten too impatient and simply left.
“He already left, sweetheart. Grabbed some pastries and booked it.” Helen reading your searching face gestures to the small glass display to illustrate her point. “Must’ve been on the road and in a hurry, I didn’t recognize his face, real quiet kid too, he didn't say much.”
“Thanks for taking him, I got caught up talking to Jackson about his art.”
“If only I was thirty years younger, he was a cute little thing.” Helen waves away your thanks in favor of cooing over the mystery man with the sweet tooth and how she would’ve eaten him up back in her day.
“Your mailman is going to be heartbroken.” You shoot a quick glance over the counter to see Sabino still cooking and take the chance to lean over the counter and gossip about Helen’s love life. “ The sailor, too.”
“Honey, there is plenty of me to go around, even at my age a good time is a good time. You should really be getting out there too, we can manage a shift or two without you, you know? The place isn’t going to crumble if it’s just us and you need to have fun while you’re young.” In between stories of her rendezvous Helen loved to urge you to follow in her footsteps and take the good that was offered, or at the very least spend time anywhere that wouldn’t leave you smelling of burnt coffee and fried foods. Her own kids had grown and left some time ago and she’d taken to you with an almost maternal, maybe more older sister role and was no stranger to worrying over you.
A pair of plates scraping as they slid across the tiled ledge drags your sight from Helen’s scrutinizing, albeit well-meaning gaze to a plate of French toast stacked sky high with whip cream, chopped nuts, bananas and powdered sugar and a much more modest one of eggs, hash browns and bacon. “Better get that, Jackson hates when the whip cream melts before he can eat it.”
It wasn’t that you weren’t interested in going out; California was thriving –the place to be with seemingly new things coming out every day, but you needed to save. A car wasn’t going to buy itself and waking up at four every morning to catch the bus to make it to the diner on time wasn’t something you wanted to do forever and as much as you like rooming with Lisa, a place of your own was eventually the goal.
Your shift passes slowly after that, thoughts of what girls your age were doing occupying your mind, daydreams of nights out and shopping trips mixing with the fried scent of reuben sandwiches and chicken tenders as the morning crowd bled into the afternoon lunch rush.
Helen’s words left you longing for both the things you were missing out on and the parties you’d gone to in high school. You hadn't realized just how much you’d missed having simple mindless fun until today. The memories of his laughter echoed in the back of your head through your afternoon chores and well into the evening, your dreams were water colored that night, pretty but distant and just out of reach.
“Morning Hun.” Sabino, the only person to get there earlier than you, sat at an empty table with a mixing bowl full of fruit loops in front of him and a steaming cup of coffee which he slides to empty space on the other side for you to enjoy.
Sliding into the seat, you lay your head down on the table and wrap your palms around the warm ceramic to both enjoy the last dregs of sleepiness and allow yourself to fully let the approaching work day settle in in the peace of the morning. After a good ten minutes had passed, the bell on the front door chimes once, then twice– and finally a third time to let you know Helen, Marie and Dennis had made their way in and that it was time to chug your now lukewarm coffee and start getting things ready.
The morning prep goes fairly painlessly and as the sun creeps up people began to trickle in, all of them just as heavily lidded and reluctant to leave the cozy promise of beds and sleep that came with nightfall as you had been, but perking up at the smell of coffee and grilling bacon that saturated the air .
“Welcome to Cecil’s, will you be dining with us or ordering to go?” It was barely fifteen minutes past the hour when the bell chimes signaling another customer had come ambling in. Marie was hosting today and you can just barely hear her greeting the patron with an enthusiasm that could only come from someone who was as new to the workforce as she was, fresh faced and eager with everything ahead of her.
There was a longer than usual pause and you heard Marie speak again. “Sir?” Just a few more seconds pass and a deeper voice responds with three words that had you craning your head to peek around the corner where you’d been setting out the pastries.
“Coffee, to go.”
Marie repeats his order to confirm. “One black coffee to go. Can I get you anything else this morning? They’re just putting the pastries out, we make them ourselves.”
“Just the coffee, thanks.”
“Yes sir.” Knowing you should probably brush it off as someone who just sounds familiar, you find yourself quickly stacking the last of the muffins and closing the display to finish before Marie is done pouring the coffee to get a glimpse of the man up front.
Rounding the corner you make it in time to see Marie putting the pot of coffee back, she’d given him decaf on accident, with no one else up front. “Marie?”
“Yeah, hun?”
“Can you cover for me real quick? I need to check on something.”
“Sure thing, honey.”
He was still there, sitting with one hand resting outside the window of his car holding a cigarette that he wasn’t smoking, head tilted back and eyes locked firmly on the roof of his car, the coffee he’d just bought was placed on his dash with the lid popped off and several sugar and creamer containers were open and emptied alongside it.
To everyone, including yourself, he looked to be just another man who was taking a moment to collect himself before the start of another day. To those who paid just a little more attention he looked nervous, the hand holding the dwindling cigarette shaking slightly at the sound of your approaching footsteps.
“Billy?” He could hear the sun in your voice, feel the warmth.
“Hey Princess.” He offered an easy toothy grin as if him stopping by to say a quick hello was a common occurrence.
“I knew I recognized that voice. I didn’t know you were back in town, are you visiting family?”
“I’m just here for a few days on my way through town, then I'm heading out.” Billy flicks the butt of his cigarette to ash it, the cherry burning upwards on a smoke he’s only taken one drag from.
“That’s a shame, it’d be nice having you back around. You always had a way of shaking things up.” The chime of the bell over the door alerts you to Marie before the call of your name does. “Stop in for breakfast before you go, yeah? I’m on for the next three days, all opening shifts. I’ll have our chef Sabino make you his famous peanut butter banana nut waffles.”
You pat the hood of his car a few times and bid him goodbye over your shoulder while making your way back into the well-loved diner for the rest of your shift, a skip only your coworkers would notice had been added to your step.
After two weeks had gone by, you were sure that Billy had simply come and gone, sparing a quick stop to say hi to a highschool friend before disappearing to wherever his final destination would be. The coast was your guess, somewhere quiet, but not isolated where he’d always be close to the water. He’d always loved surfing on warm days where he could relax while digging his toes into the sand and watching the waves lap at the shore on the cooler ones.
It was a short meeting but it left a lasting impression on you, memories flitting through your mind while you worked for the rest of the day.

The trailers were just coming to an end when you’d finally made your way into the theater, the opening scenes filling the screen while you balanced your popcorn, soda and candy in one hand and your purse in the other, the narrow aisles seeming smaller with every seat already full for the debut showing of Terminator 2. Even in the dim lights, it was obvious tonight was going to be a sold out show.
“Do you mind if I sit here?” Every empty seat you managed to find was filled by a bag or stray sweater to signal it was being saved for a friend or already taken by someone who were making a quick dash to the concessions for a refill on popcorn and coke, having already downed theirs during the ads for upcoming movies and new products.
“I’m sorry my friend is sitting here, she just went to the bathroom.” Linda Hamilton’s voice booms on the speakers just as the girl was talking, her words hushed and nearly lost by the on screen presence, but the apologetic expression was more than enough to let you know exactly what she had said.
A shout of your name brings your attention to a row towards the back where you were surprised to see Billy waving you over, his tenor deep enough it cut through the boom of the music sequence to show you that he was pointing to where there was an empty seat next to him.
You had to squeeze past more than a few people to reach him, awkwardly shuffling sideways while being sure not to step on anyone’s toes as you made your way down the aisle to where he sat next to the seemingly only open seat left in the theater. “You always were there in my time of need, I might just start to think you’re my hero.”
“You’re here on your own?”
“Sara was supposed to get here earlier to save seats but she called last minute to cancel.” You had a sneaking suspicion that her sudden change in plans had something to do with the new coworker she’d met last month named Michael, his name had been popping up in more and more of your conversations and you knew it was only a matter of time before her work crush turned into something more. Juggling your stuff, you managed to get your sprite into the drink holder and tuck your bag underneath the seat before collapsing into it with a relieved sigh. As used to being around strangers and making pleasantries as you were from work, it was nice to settle beside someone you knew on your day off.
The movie was ok and Billy was sure he would have liked it had he gotten more of the story but his attention was divided between you and the big screen, his eyes having a hard time choosing between the fast paced action scenes up ahead and your delighted face as you crunched away on your treat. In that hour and a half, he learned a few things: you like to talk during movies, soft enough that only he could hear your whispered commentary and jokes, you alternated between salty and sweet, for every few handfuls of popcorn you would toss a mouthful of reese's pieces into your mouth for balance, and no matter how many times he declined your offer of snacks you’d always offer again a few minutes later, never content until he was eating too.
“Did you see the Hospital escape?” By time the movie had ended you’d made your way through all of your Reese’s pieces and soda but still had about half of your popcorn left, you were clutching it to you and still snacking on it as you recited the film you’d just seen back to him in a dramatic play by play. “I never saw the first one, but Sara had insisted this was going to be the ‘it’ movie of the summer. You saw the first one, right? How did this one hold up compared to it?”
Like it was a habit you’d been doing forever you leaned against him, your head resting on his shoulder as you walk through the lobby and towards the parking lot, the tub of popcorn being shoved into his view from time to time in your never ending bid to feed whoever was around you. He tensed at the contact initially, but relaxed as you walked in stride with him, the warmth of your head against his bicep bleeding through the denim of his coat. The arm that wasn’t clutching the butter stained container to your chest looped its way around the arm you were leaning against to offer you an easier time keeping pace with him.
Outside the sun had reached the final stages of setting, the darkness crowding the streaks of crimson and orange and snuffing out the last of today to get ready for the morning to come. It was still warm, made bearable by the breeze that drifted in from the west. You walked absentmindedly with Billy to his car, side by side like no time had ever passed and waited until he was by the driver's door to hand him the rest of your salty snack before wishing him a good night.
“Hey, wait, you have a ride?” He rested against the car with one arm, the other digging into the pocket of his jacket to grab his cigarettes and lighter.
“I walked here, Sara was supposed to meet me at my apartment and we were going to head here together since my place is just around the block.” Your thumb pointed behind you to show the direction you'd be heading and to give him some reassurance that you didn't have far to go to make it home.
Billy opened his mouth to say something. He'd wanted to insist on a ride, tell you to be safe, ask if you were sure; instead he pursed his lips together and brought the lighter to the end of his cigarette and just nodded.
“I’m glad I was able to see you one more time before you left.” He wondered if you could feel the way his body froze when you wrapped your arms around his frame to give him a quick hug, thanking him for watching the movie with you, or the way it relaxed as you did that same little squeeze right before you let go to say goodbye, just as you’d done since you were kids. He thinks you did when you turned back around for another hug, a fast one, clinging to him for the briefest second almost like you were making up for the goodbye you never got to have back then.

If he thought back far enough, he could remember what it was like before, before his mom had left, before Hawkins, before the mind flayer.
You’d been together from the start from kindergarten with Mrs.Mayo, where he’d been paired with you as your walking buddy. Your school in California had been a lot different from the one in Hawkins– rows of buildings connected like a strip mall with no hallways. The school had been fenced in of course, but they had you pair up for safety anyway and when it came time to take you to the cafeteria or the play area they’d line you up and have you walk side by side.
Everyday, multiple times a day he’d find himself next to you, marching in rows to get lunch or visit the library, but he never minded, you were nice, you liked to talk and you always shared your animal crackers on the walk back from the elementary rooms to the preschool and kindergarten area.
It didn't take long for his teacher-assigned partner to become his best friend.
He’d spend recess walking on the wooden beams that lined the wood chipped area of the playground, balancing on the thin strips and pretending you were on a pirate ship and walking the plank. Billy remembered taking turns with Selena, you and Andrew on the swings, competing to see who could get the highest before jumping off and bragging that he’d be able to swing high enough that he could loop around the metal bar. He’d hog one of the swings for the entire play time trying to soar over the top but had never managed to.
Even in class you’d been together, your desks arranged into pods of four that made up the ‘blue group’ were pushed flush together, blue construction paper taped to the forward facing side with your names written in your own messy scrawls. No matter how far back he’d thought, there was never a moment you weren’t a part of, something he’d only realized after replaying your night at the movies together.
It was an easy friendship to have.
It became a hard friendship to maintain.
You weren’t oblivious, he knew you weren’t, you’d seen the change. You heard the way playground roughhousing had evolved into high school rumors of vandalism, hookups and bullying, but Billy was still Billy, at least to you and when the lunch bell rang, he'd wait around your classroom and walk side by side with you to his car where you’d pile in with a mixture of his friends and whatever girl he was with that week.
“Let’s get Jack in the Box, those tacos have been calling my name since the second period.” Sid had one arm looped around your shoulder and one around the driver's seat where he was patting Billy’s chest to emphasize his need for the fast food tacos. “I’m sure our girl here could go for some onion rings.” He jostled your shoulder knowing if anyone could sway the vote for today’s lunch excursion that it’d be you.
“Curly fries do sound really good.” His eyes were on you, visible through the rear view mirror.
“Can we get McDonald’s, Billy? I’d die for a milkshake right now.” The front seat was occupied by Amanda who was using the visor’s mirror to swipe on some lip gloss.
With one hand on the wheel and the other on Amanda’s thigh, Billy backed out of his parking spot, the rubber of his wheels leaving black marks on the pavement as he peeled out “A milkshake sounds good to me.”
“Come on man, even she wanted Jack in the box.” Defeated Sid slumped into his seat, a pout on his face at the lost opportunity to fix his midday cravings.
“An apple pie sounds good, too.” Your hand found Sid’s arm to give it a squeeze.
“I didn’t want an apple pie.” Through the mirror you could still feel his gaze, heavy, intense, and entirely focused on you as the car sped down the road towards town.
At the time it’d seemed like a good idea, in his mind at least, to push you away. It’d be easier for you both if you were the one who chose to walk away, he’d had plenty of experience with that and he knew if that was how things ended, he would at least be ok.
You’d known he was going to move, a few of your friends had gotten together in the dried creek behind his house to get wasted, say goodbye with jokes and talk about how he was planning to blow that ‘Midwest shithole’ that Susan had found for them in the middle of nowhere. You’d all stayed well past the setting sun, watching the running oranges and red dampen into a star-smattered sky while passing around the cheapest bottle of vodka that Wayne had been able to get his hands on.
The burn of the cheap booze sat in your throat even after the bottle had been handed from you to Billy to Wayne then to Sid, the bitter taste masked only by the bottle of apple juice you’d been nursing on the side.
“This year is going to blow without you man. Why’d your sister have to go try and run away like that?”
“She’s just a kid.” You defended.
“She’s not my sister.” His first answer overlapped your own. “She’s not my sister.” The second a much firmer response.
“Right, sorry man. I’m just bummed you’re leaving.” Sid raised his hands in defeat and the stereo pausing before switching to the following song, Rock you like a hurricane, was like an awkward punctuation to the tense conversation.
“It doesn’t matter. I’ll be back here the day I turn eighteen. There’s no way I’m staying in that backwoods hell.” A breeze kicked up, warm but with the barest whispers of the impending winter, and you’re hit with the scent of cigarettes, liquor and cologne.
“Hey, Billy!” A little further down the dried creek Amanda calls out, she’s got a bottle of something brown clutched in her hand and two of her friends flanking her on either side.
“It’s about time you showed up.” Billy’s grin is wolfish when he pats his leg to invite her to sit on his lap, the excuse of there being nowhere else to sit leaving his mouth before she could make her way to the over crowded couch.
Things picked up from there, a bottle being passed between friends turned into more cars pulling up and beers being handed out as people clapped Billy on the back and told them they’d miss him, plans for the following summer already being made with liquor fueled optimism.
It was around three when people begrudgingly began to make their way home, designated drivers towing their drunken friends into their cars where they’d shout a final goodbye over the idling engines and milling people to Billy who just waved them off in favor of sucking face with Amanda.
“Hey man, we’ve gotta get home. My mom gets up at five and if I’m not home she’s gonna ship me off to Indiana with you.” Wayne stood behind the couch, fingers gripping the backrest and shaking it to get the pair's attention.
“I’m a little occupied.” Amanda’s lips stayed busy against his cheek as Wayne continued to whine about Sid being too drunk to drive them home.
“School starts in a couple hours, Billy. We could really use a ride home.” He didn’t respond to you at first, instead tilting his head so Amanda could continue to lather him with attention.
“Come on man.” Wayne shook the back of the couch hard enough it rattled you as well to no response other than a middle finger in his face. “Why don’t you try, Honey? He likes you better.”
“It is getting really late, Billy, would you mind taking us home?” Billy’s head lolled to the side and for a few seconds you felt like he was scrutinizing you, his blue eyes hardened for the briefest moment before softening and ultimately shifting to annoyance.
“Let’s go.” He patted the side of Amanda’s hip to tell her to hop off. “I’ll be back, Honey, wait for me here. Let’s make this quick, I have better things to do than drive you three home.”
“Told you he’d do it if you asked.” Wayne’s breath reeked of cheap beer when he leaned in to try to whisper that to you but the words simply went in one ear and out the other, just barely registering in the back of your mind.
He’d called her Honey.
He’d called her Honey and that shouldn’t have bothered you, but it had, more than the cold shoulder he’d been giving you for the past two months. It was a sting, sharp and quick, like the jab of a needle to see how pleased he was when she smiled at the nickname he’d only ever used on you. That had been your name since you were small, it was what everyone had called you, and it had never been all that special, not until it was given to someone else.
Sid’s house was closest and it took both Wayne and Billy to nearly drag him into the house, he’d been well past drunk and found the entire thing funny as the two wrestled him into a standing position so they could get him to walk with them. Wayne was next, a lot more sober than Sid, he offered Billy an arm around the shoulder squeeze and a “Keep in touch man.” Before he was off to climb in through his window.
When he’d pulled up to your house you didn’t reach for the handle, instead turning in your seat to face him. “Did you want to-“
“I’ll stop by tomorrow before I go.” He didn't miss the way your smile faltered as he said that.
“Promise you won’t forget me in the chaos of the morning before you go?”
“I won’t forget you, I promise.” His arm twitched against the back of your headrest where it lay, the habit of you hugging him before leaving his car ingrained into him. It was a small movement unnoticed by you, but a moment of weakness to him to see that he’d been expecting, wanting, that last hug.
“I’ll see you in the morning, Silly Billy.” The nickname got a smile out of him, the first one he’d directed at you that night
“Bye, Honey.”
Tumblr media
The next time you see him, you had ended up missing the bus by a few minutes, the fading red of the tail lights grew dimmer as they ventured further into the night. The heavy rain obscuring them and your hope of making it home far quicker than it should have on a summer night like this. It was warm at least, so it could definitely be worse, you reassured yourself, the air stifling despite the waters rushing down your face in rivulets and drenching your uniform with each trudging step forward, it could be winter.
Home was easily more than an hour and a half walk that you weren’t willing to take at this time of night, and the diner’s doors were locked until Sabino made his way in the next morning. A hotel would be too expensive so you turn to walk towards the edge of town hoping that Marie would be home and not at her night shift at the nursing home.
“Get in.” The roar of an engine reaches you before the lights do, muted by the downpour that had left you soaked to the bone and ready to throw down the fifty dollars for the cherrywood hotel that would assure you a bed and a shower in the next few blocks, even if it would be for less than eight hours. Your body tensed for the second it took you to process that the car that had pulled to the stop beside you was the same bright blue Camaro that had left the diner a few hours before you had and once it sunk in who the furrowed brow and rumbling voice belonged to you were more than eager to climb into passenger seat and melt into the leather interior that smelled faintly of cigarette smoke and cologne. “What the hell are you doing out here, you’ll get hit in this weather.”
“I missed the bus, a table of six walked in right before closing and I just got out.” Water still drips from your hair and lingeres on your lashes before splashing onto the seat belt you were strapping across your chest. “I was heading to a coworkers to see if I could spend the night.”
A cigarette stayed tucked between pinched lips while Billy exhaled a sigh,he’d gone straight to the laundromat after grabbing a burger to go and had spent the last two hours on a hard plastic chair waiting for his clothes, which were all crammed in his back seat, to be done. “I’ll give you a lift, you still staying on Lakeshore?”
“Are you sure? It’s a little out of the way.”
“I was heading that way, I’m staying with an old friend until I find a place of my own.” The key with the tag ‘Cherrywood Room 218’ was burning a hole into his back pocket at the lie.
Billy’s knuckles were white, both hands wrapped tightly on the wheel with his thumb tapping against the hard plastic, the sound of the heavy rain pounding the top of his car had muddled with his racing thoughts of what to say until it was a cacophony of white noise that spurred on his anxiety. He’d gotten this far, taken years to heal, made it back home and was seated by you. He knew what he wanted next but being here alone with you had him feeling like he had when he moved away when he was seventeen, unable to express what he was feeling. It boiled his blood to feel helpless in a situation.
“You’re staying?” Just two words, spoken in no special way, warms him, stoking a growing feeling that you’d been feeding with each interaction, with each touch and act of compassion. He knew that he had a lot to fix, and that you weren’t the answer to how he would do that, but you were an ember, crackling quietly as a source of comfort he’d never known before, creating cracks in the wall he’d hastily boarded his heart up with all those years ago when his mom had left.
“I’m sticking around for a while. This place feels like home, you know?” He’d have to break the rest down himself, take steps to the life he knew he wanted, but he had a foundation, a place that wanted him.
His grip on the wheel loosens, the tension from just minutes prior lifting with the contended hum you answered with as if you had just given him permission to allow himself to want to stay.
The drive passes quickly after that, with your head rested against the window watching the rain race against the chilled pane of glass and the both of you wrapped up in your own thoughts, neither of you seeming to realize you’d made it to your driveway until the car went from smooth cement to the crunching of your gravel driveway.
You linger in the car for a minute, your hand on the handle of the door steeling yourself to be drenched again. “Thanks for the ride, Billy.”
“It’s not a big deal, I’m staying just a few minutes from here.” Again the key feels more present in his pocket, reminding him of the can of worms he was opening by allowing himself to take this time with you.
“I’m glad you’re sticking around, senior year just wasn’t the same without you around, I missed having you there.” The volume of the rain increases as you crack open the door. “Thanks again for taking me home, the next time you come into the diner, desserts on me.”
“Take this.” Before you’d fully opened the door Billy shrugs his coat off, the same brown leather one he’d had since you were fourteen, to hand to you, his favorite one he’d never let anyone else wear, let alone borrow before tonight. He lingered for a bit, watching you run the short distance to your front door with his coat held above your head, the leather he’d taken such care of getting drenched to spare you from getting any wetter and only backing out of the drive once he could see the light spilling from your living room as you walked into your apartment.
Any plans he’d thought of having for the following day were forgotten as he decides that pancakes sound perfect for tomorrow’s breakfast.
“Good morning and welcome to Cecil’s, I’ll be your waitress today.” It was early, the gray of the sky muddling into the blue of early dawn, but you were wide awake, the smile on your face genuine as you greeted the third table of the morning.
“I was in green all day.” Jackson is already hard at work on his newest masterpiece, the blue crayon running against the paper to fill the sky like he was in a race against time to complete it.
You glanced at his grandmother for context and she explains that they had a chart for behavior, green was good, yellow was for needing a little extra direction, and red meant they'd been having a hard day.
“Well it sounds like you’ve earned yourself a treat, I'll be sure to tell our cook to make your pancakes extra special. After all, it's not often we get someone who managed to stay in green all day.” The boy beams at you, obviously enjoying the praise and the promise of an extra special breakfast for his good behavior at the daycare. He’d always been a good kid, and you were happy to celebrate that, but you were especially proud at how he’d been so excited to tell you about his accomplishments.
Helen grabs you the moment you put his order in with Sabino. “I’ve got another one for you, honey, Chelsea’s running late again.” The pause and pointed look before she said again was telling. Chelsea being on time was more unlikely than snow in December, but at least she always showed.
You could just make out the mess of blonde curls over the high back of the booth, styled to perfection but made to look effortlessly natural. “Welcome to Cecil’s, I’ll be your waitress this morning. Can I get you started with some coffee?”
Billy looked at ease, he almost always did, one arm tossed over the back of the booth and a bored look on his face. His jaw is tense, a nervous tick he remedied by placing an unlit cigarette between his lips.
The filter between his lips being crushed when he offered a tight lipped nod and slid the still upside down ceramic cup to you.
He could swear the sun broke through the clouds at the same time you smile, maybe even believes it only had because you did if it hadn’t been so embarrassing, dusting the gray expanse with gold to match the warmth of your grin as you rattled off the specials of the day even though you both knew he was getting the peanut butter banana nut pancake stack you’d promised at the movies.
Your pencil, a stumpy little thing just barely long enough for you to hold, had been scribbling on the notepad you carried in your apron, writing an order down he hadn't placed before you had even finished telling him about the soup of the day. “I’ll be right back with your food, Billy.”
Wafts of smoke start to lazily float up the moment you walk away, twirling in wispy gray lines before dissipating into the air. Billy isn’t sure if it’s the rush of nicotine or the comfort of routine but he can feel his muscles losing the tension he hadn’t realized they’d been holding since he walked into the diner, the simple act of doing so being a submission on his end. With all of your prior meetings being on his terms and in his places of comfort walking into a place that was so inanely you felt almost vulnerable.
Less than ten minutes had passed when you were back at his booth with a plate stacked high in one hand and a steaming mug in the other one, the look on your face is all too pleased as you set down a mountain of banana nut pancakes smothered in peanut butter and drowned in syrup. The sight of it alone is enough to make Billy’s teeth ache.
“I brought you some cocoa too.” The mug you hand to him was full to the brim almost to the point of overflowing and topped with a more than generous handful of mini marshmallows the top of which were sprinkled in cinnamon.
Exactly the way he’d taken it since you were both small and had spent your first holiday season together.
The house smelled of chocolate melting into perfectly buttery cookies, splashes of vanilla and sugar settling the house into a holiday haze. On the couch next to you Billy was curled up into himself, half of the blanket you were under was draped over him as you both nursed the cups of cocoa his mom had made you while you attempted to warm up from the day you’d spent playing outside.
On the tv a year without Santa was playing and Billy’s mom sang along to the tune of Heat Miser’s song, your own mother alongside her working on cookies for when Santa made his way here the following morning.
Billy’s attention is ripped away from the screen when he hears your mom calling a name, a name he doesn’t know, and you hop off the couch with your cocoa still in hand to go help her with the cookies.
“Your name isn’t Honey?” The revelation was clearly a shock, his eyes were large, comically so as he repeated the name to himself, your actual name feeling weird and clunky on his tongue after having known you as Honey for the past three months at school.
“You thought my name was Honey?” Billy could feel his face burn at the giggles that caused, both yourself and the two moms in the kitchen cooing over the fact that he’d been calling you Honey this whole time.
“That’s what the teacher always calls you.” He could feel the heat of embarrassment creeping past his face to his ears.
“That’s silly, Billy, that’s just a nickname.”
“Yeah, well…I like that name better.” He took a hasty swallow of cocoa to cover his blunder and coughed as it went down the wrong pipe, the whole ordeal only bringing more attention to him.
“That’s ok, you can call me Honey.”
“Thanks Princess.”
“I'll be back in a bit to see how you’re enjoying the food.” Not if he was enjoying the food, just how he was enjoying it. Billy had been known, by those close to him, to have a notoriously big sweet tooth, he’d done well to reign it in, instead focusing on working out and keeping in shape but he’d never been able to say no to baked goods especially if it was you who was offering them.
When you make your way back around to him, coffee pot in hand to refill his cup, he’d already polished off the cocoa and a third of the pancakes.
“How’s the food?” You spare a cautious glance around to the other diners to assure they were all content before setting the pot onto the table and sliding into the seat opposite him, the worn leather making you scoot more than glide across the bench seating to be directly across from him.
You’d asked him right as he’d taken a bite of his pancakes and he did his best to say it was delicious around the mouth full of sticky cakes which only earned a laugh from you and a glare from him.
“Are you on break?” Billy takes a quick sip of the too hot coffee to help clear the food in his mouth so he could talk to you.
“Not for another few hours but I’ve checked all my tables and can spare a few minutes.” Your hand reaches across the table to steal his fork and uses it to cut a chunk of his pancakes that you steal a bite of. “We really do have the best pancakes.”
“Do you always steal your customers' food?”
“Only the ones I really like.” It was an old game between you two, shared food, stolen food, some days he’d steal your cherries and you’d take his pickles anytime his food came with them. Seeing you slip into your old role so easily brings a smile to his face.
“Do you want to go out sometime?” It slips out before he’d wanted it too, the words leaving his mouth before they get a chance to fully form in his head. He’d been wanting to ask you,in a far less crass and direct way but the question lingered in the air unable to be taken back.
“Like on a date?”
“Yeah princess, a date.” It was already out there so he doubles down, layering his voice with that thick charm that he’d practiced, and perfected, over the years. Leaning in, Billy let the knuckles of his right hand brush against the top of your folded hands that were resting flat on the table, you were soft against his own battle scarred skin.
“Sure Billy, I’d love to.” It was a fast answer, instant really, an eager response and the matching grin you held on your face has him retracting his hands back to his own side, both of them landing in his lap before they slid down to his knees so he’d have a place to rest them. What did he normally do with his hands after someone had said yes? “I'm free. Friday night.”
You weren’t but nothing worth doing was going to be happening on a Wednesday evening and trading a shift to soothe the fluttering in your stomach that had been building since your first run in in the diner parking lot seemed worth it.
“I’ll pick you up at eight.”
Tumblr media
“Are you just going to wait by the window?” You’d been hovering in Lisa’s peripheral for the last ten or so minutes, alternating between checking the window by the door and double - then triple checking that you still looked ok in the little circular mirror that was older than you were that was pinned to the wall. “You’re going to pace a hole into our carpet.”
“It’s been awhile.”
“That you’ve been on a date or that you’ve been with Billy?” You held her full attention now, Lisa’s body twisted on the couch so she could rest her torso on the arm rest and watch you with an amused gaze. The name ‘Billy’ came out in a lilting way telling you she already knew the answer to your question.
“I’ve missed him, y’know?” You wouldn’t say a piece of you had been missing, but his absence had been felt. It was felt in the way you’d hear a car peeling down the street and your head would still turn, always expecting to see the blue build of his Camaro and to this day you still get an extra cherry on your milkshakes because he’d always stolen the one off of yours for years. Having him gone was like losing your favorite sweater or chapstick, you know it’s gone yet you still find yourself searching for its comfort.
Lisa’s eyes study your face for what felt like an uncomfortable amount of time but in reality had only been a few seconds before she turns back around on the couch sliding down into the divet she’d made to continue watching whatever had been holding her interest before. “Make sure he has you home before midnight.”
This time when you heard the roar of an engine pulling into the spot in front of your apartment you know that as soon as that door opened you’d find the perfectly polished metal of Billy’s 1979 Chevy and Billy himself on the other side waiting for you.
You can smell it the moment you’d climb into his car, a warm, greasy, salty scent that makes your mouth water filling the air. Nestled between your two seats you could see a white bag, still warm enough you could feel the heat radiating from it, with bold red lettering and the paper turning translucent from the grease seeping through it from the fast food inside. “I haven’t had this in years.”
Billy had his foot on the gas the moment your seatbelt clicked into place, the music turning up as he turned onto the street and began to drive you towards the edge of town. This time settling into the passenger seat felt right, like sliding on your favorite sweater that you’d worn over in time, like it was your seat again.
Small talk fills the short ride, your excitement over him being there and his slanted half smile coming easily, like no time had ever been spent apart, your comments being met with sarcastic banter and teasing remarks. The drive ended up going quickly and finishes with him pulling into the empty parking lot of a park you’d often pass by while running errands, the dark stretch of playground and grassy fields being illuminated by the pale moon overhead and the filtered yellow of the lampposts littered around the area.
The two of you sit on the play area, bypassing the splintering picnic tables to sit on the faded black plastic of the swings, the chains digging into the meat of your palms as you held onto them to help keep you in place while your legs folded in and out to get just enough momentum going for a light swing.
“This seemed so much bigger when we were younger.” You can still see his blonde curls leading the way around the playground, frizzy from playing in the hot summer sun, and still hear his voice excitedly telling you about the seven foot wave his mom had let him surf on his own over summer break.
Beside you the paper bag crinkles as Billy digs out the food he’d gotten for your date and you’re handed two tacos and a large curly fry. “Haven’t had this since junior year, there’s nothing in that shithole but cows and corn.”
“You still remember my order.” The swing drags to a stop when you push your heels into the soil and wood chips below, two deep divots forming in the material at the base of your heels as your movements halted.
You go for the curly fries first and the memories of lunch runs and late night drives hits you before the salt registers on your tongue, the way he’d always grumble about crumbs in his car negated by the salty treats he always seemed to have around for you.
Billy had always been unapologetically himself but it was only when you’d begun reminiscing on both your shared past and the years apart did you truly get to see him as he’d been in your memories, eyes bright and that deep hearty laugh of his twisting your stomach in knots that only his smile eases.
The rest of the night passes like that, stories shared between bites of food, jokes that weren’t nearly as funny as the way you two were laughing at them made them out to be and every so often his knuckles brush against your own as the swings sway with your movements. You stay in the park until what you could only guess was well past the curfew Lisa had given you, the cars having long since cleared the road.
It wasn’t until his car pulls into your parking lot that he kisses you, there was lull in conversation as you sat in the passenger seat with neither of you in a rush for the night to truly be over. You’d just finished telling him a story about graduation and how Sid and Wayne had almost made you miss your turn to walk and you have the biggest smile on your face.
You were always smiling, sure in him as a person in a way it took life-altering events for him to be in himself, even now as his fingers hesitated moving gently against the swell of your cheek. He’d been good at this before, it came naturally to him; a flash of a smile, a compliment here, a light touch there and whoever he was with was putty.
When his lips brushed against yours it was light, a soft glide of his lips that made your lips tingle. The initial kiss was enough to make him hungry for more, his own slightly chapped lips pressing against your own more eagerly, the hand that was just barely ghosting against your skin now cradled your face, holding it firmly to keep you in place as his lips moved against your own. The kiss had a sense of urgency to it, longing and needy but with no end goal in mind, he took and you were happy to give.
You couldn’t be sure how long it lasted, was it a long kiss? Short? Time had slipped away, moving around the two of you, just for this one moment, the moment everyone but the two of you had seen coming since fall of ‘72 when you’d intertwined your little hands for the first time and instantly bonded.
Billy broke away first, his lips kiss swollen and slick, but he remained close, his half lidded eyes, normally so icy and sharp had warmed to a softer shade of blue as they stayed level with your own, drinking in your own dazed but entirely pleased expression and only darting down to watch the way you bit the corner of your lip, chewing on it with a giddy smile.
“Wow.” He couldn’t help but snort a laugh at that, your genuine response simple but so endearing, that same sunshine bright smile on your face as he laughed at your awe-struck answer to your very first kiss together.
“Wow?” He was sure you would be able to warm up even the dreariest of Hawkins winters with the way you were looking at him, eye bright and taking him in like he was the one who could thaw a cold Midwest January day with just a look.
“I’ve been hoping you’d do that since you drove me home back in August.” There was a breathlessness to your voice with the kiss itself not being too heated, but the thrill of how perfect it felt to have him mould against you stealing the air from your lungs all the same.
You would have stayed there all night if you hadn’t had a shift the following morning but the late hour didn't stop you from stealing one more quick kiss before bidding him good night.
“I’ll see you in the morning Honey.” This time as you climb out of the car and he promises to see you the following morning you know he’ll be there.

YOU MAKE IT FEEL LIKE CHRISTMAS
— a holiday addition to the dadrry universe 🎄
Tumblr media
❅ ❅ ❅
Red wine is an elixir of reminiscence.
As twilight fades into dusk, you let the velvety Cabernet Sauvignon warm your bloodstream and bring forth memories of the festive seasons gone by. Childhood recollections of sneaking down the hallway before sunrise, captivated by the magical scene made by the plump man who somehow slid down the chimney. Wrapping presents galore while sitting by the twinkling evergreen, the stacks piling higher and higher each year. Baking desserts and listening to Christmas music, the scent of gingerbread mingling with the seaside air. All those moments were nostalgia happening in real-time, engulfing you until they unraveled like a ribbon box of wistfulness.
You're lost in a blissful reverie while watching Harry swiftly round the kitchen island. He's eating the last half of a frosted cookie and untucking his black henley from his sweatpants.
"You've gone quiet on me," he says while chewing, his fist raised to his mouth.
Your vision breaks away from him and refocuses on the entrancing flames in the fireplace. "Just thinking."
"'Bout what?" he asks, reclaiming his glass of wine that he abandoned on the mantle shelf.
"How this will be our eighth Christmas together."
He whistles in a decrescendo and sits next to you. "Really? How are you not sick of me yet?"
"Trust me, you push the limit sometimes."
"Only because I love you."
You roll your eyes affectionately, then say, "I was also thinking about how emotional I'll be tomorrow."
Harry smiles as he begins soothingly rubbing your back. "You always get emotional on Christmas."
At the mere thought of it, you flatten your lips and look at him miserably. The childlike wonder you'll get to witness is nothing to shed tears over, yet you can't help but know you'll feel the pitiful pull on your maternal heartstrings.
"I'm a mess," you say defeatedly.
"No, no, no. Come here and give me a hug." He instinctively reaches for your hand and tugs you toward him. "Bring it in."
You clumsily situate yourself in his lap and curl into his warm body. Your muscles relax, but the tears still spill over. It's irrevocable.
"Why are you crying?" Harry croons, propping his chin on your head and swaying you consolingly. "Hmm? You break my heart when you cry."
Sniffling, you bury your face into his chest and mumble, "She's growing up too fast."
His throat bobs. "I know. It hurts me too."
"But it hurts, like, deep in my soul. Sometimes I physically feel the ache when I look at her."
"She's three." The featherlight touch of his fingertips trails up and down your spine. "That's still young, yeah? And don't forget we've got a new little baby."
"She's our firstborn, though," you say mournfully, staring at him. You remember exactly what it felt like to hold her for the first time. She changed everything for us. It feels like it was just yesterday when we brought her home, and now she's walking around and doing things all by herself. Where did the time go?"
"I don't have the answer to that, sweetheart," Harry replies, his eyes darting over your distraught face. "Time goes by too quickly."
"She starts preschool next year." You shake your head in disbelief and gape at him incredulously. "Harry, do you hear me? Preschool."
"I hear you." He looks genuinely concerned as he shifts his legs in order to hold you better, cradling the sides of your head to stop it from shaking. Smart of him to do so since the wine is making you a bit dizzy. "Hey, I hear you. Always. We'll cry in the car together when we drop her off on her first day, deal? Right now, let's focus on tonight and enjoy Christmas Eve. Let's watch our babies grow one day at a time."
More tears sting your eyes and nose like a thousand tiny bees. "Do you feel it when you look at her?"
His features turn sad, yet a ghost of a smile still appears. "Of course," he whispers. "It's embarrassing the number of times I've teared up just from watching her simply exist."
"You know what always gets me?" you ask thoughtfully. A tender kiss is planted on your forehead in encouragement to continue. "When she brings you seashells. It kills me every time."
The corner of his mouth twitches. "I hope she never stops doing that. It melts my heart."
"She's so sweet. We're raising such a beautiful girl."
"Two beautiful girls."
You pout, feeling overwhelmingly sentimental. "I want to wake them up and snuggle with them."
"Don't," he says with a wary laugh, "or they'll be cranky little devils tomorrow morning."
"I love waking them up, though."
"So do I," he agrees in a way that is so sincere it makes you even more emotional. "Although tomorrow we'll be the ones woken up first."
You sigh dreamily. "That's true. I love it when they open their sleepy eyes, and the first thing they see is me. And then they smile."
To provide your children with a sense of happiness, even if they're not fully conscious of it yet, is the greatest gift you could ever possess.
"Being their first smile of the day," Harry says softly, "is what being a parent is all about, you know? Getting to see their faces look more and more like yours each day. Hearing them laugh and holding them in my arms. I always think to myself how fuckin' lucky I am to be their dad."
Letting a teardrop fall, you finally succumb to the wine-drunk dramatics. "They love you so much."
It's his turn for his eyes to sparkle with tears. "They're my girls. My best friends."
"You are everything to them. The way they look at you and listen to every word you speak is so amazing. I can't think of anything quite like it."
Tracing the pad of his thumb across your cheekbone, Harry says, "They have my favorite parts of your face. When they smile, their eyes shape and light up the same way yours do." He hums thoughtfully and smoothly dances his gaze around your features. "Got their mom's nose, too."
You wipe your tears and take a sip of wine, letting him continue admiring you like a work of art in The Louvre. You do the same to him, obsessed with how the light from the flames flickers over his skin. Your lucky stars are definitely out tonight.
"I want you to get grey hair," you blurt, not even realizing what you said until Harry retracts his head with a bewildered expression.
"I beg your pardon?" he asks through a shocked laugh, reaching for his wine glass. "I'm only thirty-two! Good grief, woman."
Shrugging, you imagine the inevitable physical change. Maybe the one curly strand of hair that always falls over his forehead will start to lighten into an ash color. Or perhaps it'll start with his stubble turning a salt and pepper two-tone. Either way, you know you'll be all over him when it happens.
"It'd be hot, just saying."
"You're a dirty liar," he murmurs around the rim of his glass, his voice slightly muffled.
"A dad I'd like to fuck is what you are. Sue me."
Harry smirks gradually, his lips stained a delectable shade of scarlet. "What," he enunciates slowly, "has gotten into you tonight?"
"Nothing," you say coyly. "You're just really attractive when you drink wine."
His pupils appear darker and more dilated as he intensely stares at you. His cheeks are tinted with a flush due to the alcohol. Whenever they draw up in a smile, his dimples emerge, and he's genuinely never looked more kissable. Because his mouth... oh, his mouth.
When Harry sets his wine down and finally lingers it near your ear, his berry-scented breath sending shivers across your entire body, you're his entirely. He then speaks in a drawl that makes you tighten your legs around his waist. "I think this wine has gone from here" — he hovers his fingers over your stomach and then trails them up to your temple, tapping twice — "to here."
You swallow a noise of desperation. "I want you to kiss me."
Nipping your earlobe, he asks, "Where, baby?"
"Your choice."
"Sure about that?"
"Yes. Don't test my patience."
He doesn't say anything and promptly lays you down on your back, the carpet providing cushioning as your husband hovers over you with his hands placed on either side of your dizzy head. The room spins, but all you focus on is him.
He takes his time and leaves slow, practiced kisses on your lips, coaxing them open with his wine-flavored tongue. It's clear as day that he's never lost his temptation. If anything, it's grown now that he knows how to get specific reactions out of you. Like if he nudges his nose against yours, you'll take control of his mouth. If he reaches for your ankle, you'll spread your legs further apart. If he walks his fingers down your inner thigh, well, you won't hesitate to flip positions.
Eight years with him proves he knows every instinct of your body like no one does.
"Harry, we can't," you say when he starts rocking his hips. "I'm not cleared yet."
He stops and groans against your shoulder. "Fuck."
The doctor hasn't given you the green light to have sex again since giving birth a month ago. If you're being completely honest, you're almost dreading when it'll finally happen because of how it felt after having your first child. It wasn't pleasurable, it didn't last long, and you weren't feeling the best about your postpartum appearance. Harry had been gracious and attentive, but for lack of better words, it sucked.
"Did I ruin the moment?" you ask, your skin prickly with embarrassment.
"No," Harry breathes out. "Hell no. Look at you, baby. I'm unbelievably hard right now."
"Should we... can we—"
"We can just do foreplay if that's what you're asking. It's completely up to you."
Your tipsy brain thinks of one thing and one thing only. "Thigh."
His eyebrows twitch as he licks the corner of his mouth. "Hmm? You're mumbling."
"Thigh," you utter again.
"My what? I can't hear you over the fire."
"Harry," you grit out impatiently. "You know what I'm saying. Please, before the mood is actually ruined."
"You wanna ride it?" he asks for confirmation.
"Yes. Now shut up."
"We have to be quiet, darling."
"I can be quiet. Can you be quiet?"
"With you on my lap? Probably not."
Looking up at the ceiling and taking a calming breath, you say, "This is so risky. I hate you."
Harry tuts. "Why do you hate me?"
"Because you're so..." you trail off, searching for the right word. "So alluring all the time. And I can't help myself when you look at me like you do. It's aggravating."
"Personally, I think it's just your hormones talking." He hikes a thumb over his shoulder. "The baby monitor is on the couch, love, so don't worry. We'll make this nice and quick."
"Fine. Okay."
He stretches his legs out while you position yourself over his thigh. Your underwear is already damp as you begin slowly grinding over the thick muscle. He's hard under his sweatpants, a sight you've missed seeing and being able to do something about it. His hands latch onto your waist to guide your movements, and he moans as his whole body shudders from the first sexually intimate contact he's had with you in a month.
"Someone's got an appetite tonight," he says proudly. "It's okay, so do I. But we gotta be quiet."
A salacious thrill runs down your spine because of his determination to get you off. As you use his thigh and grip his shoulders, the fire beside you heats your already ignited body. He searches for your lips, his skin glowing, eyebrows pinched with pleasure. His broad chest provides support as you lean into him, feeling the pulse of your forthcoming orgasm grow stronger. You need it desperately. You're attempting to keep any noises from escaping, but it's been so insufferably long since you've felt him this way. Moans, whimpers, and panted breaths unabashedly break loose.
"Look at me," Harry says lowly. "What did I say? Do I need to cover your mouth?"
"You're making noise too! Don't—"
His large palm covers the lower half of your face, cutting off your sentence. "What did I say?" he repeats.
You roll your eyes and continue circling your hips over him to offer some relief. "I'm almost there," you mumble against his hand. "I'm close."
"I'm so gone for you," he murmurs, removing his hand and kissing your neck. "You're something else, do you know that? Gonna make a mess on my lap?"
You whine into his mouth. "Yeah. Do the thing."
Harry purposefully flexes his thigh muscle, the movement putting heavenly pressure on your clit. It does the trick, and you come as he stifles your moans so no innocent ears hear, his own groans muffled as you kiss through the climax.
"I missed doing this with you," you whisper, grinding against him one last time.
"I know." He grunts, his body stilling. "I know, honey."
"And I love you. You're so good to me and our family."
"We're perfect together, aren't we?"
"So fucking perfect," you say as your eyes flutter shut. Every breath you take is heavy, your lungs filling with pure contentment.
"Let's get you cleaned up." He hooks your legs around his waist, and his elbow accidentally knocks over his wine glass. Dark red liquid pools on the hearth, the dying fire reflecting off it. "Shit. Goddamnit."
"Harry," you groan as he clumsily untangles himself from you and jogs to the kitchen.
❅ ❅ ❅
Your eyes shoot open when a startling noise resounds in the pitch-black bedroom. It doesn't register until your mind slowly fades into consciousness, realizing it's Harry's ringtone.
The bedside clock displays 5:39 a.m. It's Christmas morning. Who in the world is calling so early?
You remain still until Harry is eventually woken up by it. The mattress creaks as he stands and takes his phone to the master bathroom. You turn the bedside lamp on, and after five minutes of incoherent mumbling coming through the cracked door, he shuffles out with a crease between his eyebrows.
"Who was that?" you ask sleepily while stretching your legs under the covers.
Harry silently paces before saying, "My boss."
You yawn and rub your bleary eyes, then lean against the headboard. "Wishing you a Merry Christmas? That's nice of him."
"No," he replies in his husky morning voice, blankly staring at the wall behind you. "He, uh... he asked me if I could come to work today."
Silence pierces the atmosphere for several seconds before you finally ask, "What?"
"He said three people called out already."
You whip your head toward the clock. "It's not even six yet."
"Tell me about it," he says with zero emotion. I don't even know what to say. I told him I'd call him back once I've woken up a bit more."
Harry is most prone to being grumpy in the mornings. You hate that he's in a sour mood before the sun has even risen.
"Just tell him you're not going to. We'll get jumped on in less than an hour to open presents."
He runs a heavy hand down his face, stopping it under his lips. "It would only be for the first half of the day. I can make it back home for presents in the afternoon."
"What are you talking about?" Either he's sleepwalking, or he's gone mad. Maybe you're having a bad dream. "Christmas is an all-day thing, Harry. It always has been."
He struggles with words before saying, "My work relies on me. I need you to understand that."
Now you're wide awake with irritation. "Are you joking? You're on paternity leave. Never in a million years would I have thought you'd put work before your family."
The first nerve is struck, and it's written all over Harry's face.
"That's such a fuckin' low blow, and you know it," he says angrily. "I have always, always put our family first."
"You're sure as hell not doing it now!" You throw your arms out to the side and get out of bed.
"You're starting an argument on Christmas? Really?"
"Yeah, I am," you reply pettily.
Harry towers over you with a clenched jaw, pointing at his chest. "I demoted myself so I could be with my family more."
"Oh, don't you dare pull that card on me."
"I'm not pulling any card on you! I'm defending myself for crying out loud!"
"Lower your voice," you hiss at him. "Our daughter doesn't need to be more upset than she already will be when she finds out her dad isn't home on Christmas morning."
You struck below the belt, and now he's wounded.
Harry's stoic expression crumbles into one of devastation, his shoulders sagging with undeniable hurt. "Can you just listen to me?" His tone wavers with emotion. You immediately lower your defenses and swallow down guilt. "Please," he adds quietly. "I hate arguing with you. I hate it so much."
"I'm sorry," you choke out, hiding your face in your palms. "I didn't mean it."
Strong arms wrap around you, his hands spreading on your back. "I know you didn't mean it. We both need to calm down, okay? Can we sit?"
You nod and mumble, "Sure."
He lowers you to the floor and says, "Let's just talk this through. Tell me we're okay. Tell me it's just holiday stress getting to us."
Your head starts to pound from how deep your eyebrows plunge. "Why are you speaking like that? We're fine."
Harry's tired eyes bore into yours. "Because we're saying hurtful things and the thought of losing you is unbearable."
"You're not losing me. I'm allowed to be frustrated."
"Then please let me know what's going on in your mind. I always have to remind you to talk to me, otherwise nothing gets resolved."
"I already told you," you say while playing with the knotted string on his pajama pants. "I don't like how you're considering going to work instead of being here. That hurts my feelings."
Harry kisses your face and murmurs, "I'm sorry, love. It's early, and I'm in a weird headspace. It's all that damn wine we drank last night."
"Do you have a headache?"
"A brutal one."
You rub your temples. "Same here."
"Listen," he says, "I'm halfway through my paternity leave, so I think a part of me feels guilty for refusing to go in, considering I haven't worked the past month."
"I get that, but can you understand where I'm coming from?" you ask, still being showered with his tender morning kisses. "Any other day, I'd be fine with it, but it's our baby's first Christmas. Look me in the eye and tell me you'd seriously rather be at work prepping food for rich people who need to dine out for the holidays."
"You know I'd rather be here. I always want to be here with you guys."
"Then call your boss and say you're not coming in. You can't always be a yes man. Otherwise, you'll get walked over."
"Am I really a yes man?"
"Sometimes."
He slumps against you. "I don't want you to think I don't fight for our family."
You frown. "I don't think that. I will never forget when you demoted yourself. Yes, I was furious when you first told me, but then I realized how important it is for you to be present and bond with your children."
"I'll call my boss and tell him no." He hugs you and gives you a sweet smile. "Only if you promise you're not mad at me."
"I'm not mad," you say, fondly pinching his cheek. "Now get your butt up and bring me some Advil."
He gestures a salute. "Yes, ma'am."
❅ ❅ ❅
You're woken up again, this time by a slight pressure on your legs and two little hands shaking your shoulders.
"Santa came! Mama, Santa came!"
"Shh, shh, shh," you hush her lisped voice as you open your eyes. It takes a minute to become aware of your surroundings, and you eventually see Harry passed out on the bed by your feet, wrapped in his white robe and lying on his back as he sleeps. After your talk, he took a shower to clear his head and must have fallen asleep again.
"Can you wait until I get your sister up?" you whisper. "Then you can jump on Dad."
She nods, her messy curls bouncing every which way. You quietly get up and wander down the hallway toward the nursery. Surprisingly, your baby girl only cried twice throughout the night.
Once her diaper is changed and she's dressed in a festive onesie, you return to the bedroom with her cradled in your arms. You're greeted with a barely awake Harry, who is trying to tame the wild beast. Playful growls followed by shrieking laughter echo off the walls. You could've guessed that she wouldn't listen.
His eyes instantly soften when he sees you holding his new favorite person. "Why is your little nose all red?" he says to her. "You look like Rudolph."
You pass her over before sitting on the edge of the bed. "She loves untucking her arms from the swaddle at night, so she gets cold. She's an escape artist."
"A cute escape artist," he says, looking down at his girl. "Look how cute you are. I'm gonna eat your cheeks. I'm gonna do it!" He pretends to munch on her chubby cheeks until her happy noises fill the room.
After thirty minutes of warm snuggles in bed and letting the sunrise peek through the curtains, everyone eventually gathers in the living room to start the day. Harry, now in a much better mood, immediately goes into full dad mode so everything runs smoothly and no one is crabby on Christmas.
"What can I make my lovely wife for breakfast?" he asks, dressed in jeans and a red knitted sweater.
"French toast and eggs, please," you answer, feeding the baby in your lap a bottle. She has a little Santa hat on. "Can you grab me the burp cloth?"
"Got it." He turns to his daughter, who's watching cartoons on the TV. "Lovebug. Come here for a second."
She gallops over to him, and he swoops her up to set her on his hip. "Hi," she says.
"Hi, sweetheart," he says while fixing her loose socks. "Dad needs your breakfast order."
"Reindeer pancake!"
"And?"
"Juice!"
"And?"
She hums, thinking long and hard. "Cookie!"
"Uh-oh." Harry gasps, looking at her with wide eyes. "Haven't you heard? Santa ate all the cookies!"
Her face drops. "Why?"
"We left them out for him, remember?"
"But… but why?"
"Because that's the spirit of Christmas." He kisses her cheek and then sets her down. "Go organize the presents while I make breakfast, okay? No peeking. Behave."
Once the family has full bellies and excited smiles, it's time to open presents. Everyone has their respective piles stacked in front of their feet, some from under the tree, some from the four stockings hanging on the mantle. It's crazy to think there used to only be two there.
"Who's going first?" Harry asks with a steaming mug of tea in his hands. He sits beside you on the couch and carefully slides the portable bassinet closer. Her Christmas plans are getting milk drunk and sleeping all day.
"Me!" says your daughter, crawling into his lap.
"All right. Pick a good one, little lady."
She chooses a rectangular box from the top of her stack. "That's one you need to open with your dad," you tell her. "Harry, open yours that has the same wrapping paper."
He grabs an identical-looking present and helps tear open both boxes. After pulling out the tissue paper, he picks up a pair of white aprons, one big and one small, with ladybugs stitched to the fronts. You tried and failed to find ones that said lovebug, but you figured the sentiment would be appreciated.
"A ladybug!"
You take a candid picture of her with your phone. "I know, baby. You and Dad can match when you cook together."
Harry squeezes your shoulder and whispers, "Thank you."
It's your turn next, and you choose a gift from Harry. You open a small box that contains a gift card to a local spa establishment.
"You deserve a day without me or the kids," he says softly. "I'm forcing you to not be a mom for a day."
You look at him while holding the card to your chest. "Thank you so much."
"Word on the street is that they give better massages than I do."
"Well, they've got some tough competition."
Harry laughs and kisses your cheek, then picks out a gift you've been waiting for weeks to give him. He didn't ask for it, but you like to surprise him. He unwraps it with a giddy smile, eventually pulling out two picture frames crafted from an assortment of seashells.
"I made them using the shells she's brought you over the years," you explain. "I hope you don't mind."
Harry runs a hand over his mouth as his eyes dance over the two pictures. One of them is from when his baby girl was born a mere month ago — the two of you sat in the birthing tub with him staring at you with a breathtaking smile after she clung to him. The other picture is from the day his first daughter was born — him sitting in the hospital bed while holding her with his forehead resting against hers, his hands almost taking up her entire body.
"That's you, lovebug," he says to her while pointing at the picture. "Look at how tiny you were. You changed my life that day and made me the happiest person in the whole wide world."
"Me?" she asks curiously.
He taps her nose. "Mm-hmm. And look at you now. All grown up."
"Do I still make you the happiest in the whole wide world?"
"Every single day. We're each other's first smiles forever, right?"
She nods delightedly. "Yeah."
Harry hugs her tightly and then glances over at you, doing a double-take when you bring your knees to your chest and inhale deeply. "Are you gonna cry?" he teases with a smirk.
"No," you reply unconvincingly, clearing your throat and not-so-subtly wiping the corners of your eyes. "Okay, who's next!"
After a bunch more presents are unwrapped, toys and sparkly bows scattered on the carpet, there's only one box under the tree with no name.
Harry crawls over and grabs it. "This," he says theatrically while standing, "is for all of us. Let's have mommy do the honors."
The box is set in your lap, and Harry stands before you, bending forward to place his hands on your thighs.
"You're way too close to me right now," you tell him.
He glances up at you through his eyelashes. "I need to gauge your reaction."
You roll your eyes and begin tearing the tape on the box's seal. Once you open it, your heart skips a beat when you see four plane tickets sitting on a bed of sand.
"Surprise," he whispers.
Mouth agape, you take them out and flip them over to read the tags attached.
Your tag reads: For my wife. Italy the first time made us fall in love all over again. Let's do it a second time.
Your eldest daughter's tag reads: For my lovebug. I'll buy you all the raspberry gelato and ciabatta bread you want. I'll even throw a lasso around the Italian moon for you to keep.
Your newborn's tag reads: For my baby girl. I'll show you the sea that emulates your beauty. You'll show me how lucky I am to hold and love you.
In all your years of knowing him, you don't think he's ever done something more romantic than the scrawly ink attached to a gift from a memory so dear to him.
"We're seriously going back to Italy?"
He crouches and squeezes your thigh. "End of July."
Your daughter doesn't quite understand the significance of what's happening since she was small when the family last went, but she's smiling as she absentmindedly sifts her hands through the sand.
You lean forward and give Harry a hug. "You're so perfect. Thank you. I can't wait."
"You're welcome. Come with me for a second," he murmurs in your ear. He heads to the kitchen and quickly dumps the rest of his cold tea into the sink.
You follow him into the bathroom, leaving the door slightly cracked. Harry flicks on the light and then stands in front of you. "You," he emphasizes while cradling your cheeks, "are the fuckin' love of my life."
You accept his fervent kisses and mumble against his mouth, "Did you like the seashells?"
"Are you kidding?" He kisses you once more. "I almost lost my composure out there."
"See? I'm not the only one who gets emotional."
"I love you so much," he says, soft and sincere. "This will be the best trip of our life."
You admire his bright eyes and dimpled smile. "I'm so glad you stayed home. You make it feel like Christmas."

OOOOH THE BOYS uhmmm what abt gross daddy butcher ! butcher who's possessive of his little girl, keeping her locked up tight, hidden away from anything and everything that could hurt her.
Now Daddy Billy is a goOD DADDY. I feel like went a little crazy with this but the bugs in my brain wouldn’t let me stopp. Cough cough, my fatherless behavior, that’s the bugs.
Tags: incest, stalking, debugging, noncon, manipulation, daddy issues for REAL ૮₍ ˃ ⤙ ˂ ₎ა♡
Daddy Billy who would would have Grace looking after you your whole life so no one hurts you. That means he was never around, but that was for the best- that’s what he’d tell himself at least. You aren’t just the most important thing in Billy’s life, your the only thing important to him. Billy is motivated by your existence alone, running towards a finish line, checking off names on a kill list to make it safe enough of a world for you.
The first time you meet Billy Butcher is at a bar close to campus, you’re out from Grace’s nose for the first time in your life, trying to have all of the normal-young-adult experiences.
That’s when you meet a man old enough to be your father.
He’s rough around the edges for sure but there’s something about the older man that seems to be dragging you towards him. Maybe it’s the fatherless behavior your friends always rib you about. He’s tall, undeniably handsome and has a sexy accent. His black hair and beard is peppered with gray, he’s got a jagged scar above one eye and his hands are covered in bruises and scratches.
Billy introduces himself with his real first name, testing the waters to see if Grace had told you anything she shouldn’t have. You introduce yourself with a clueless, glossy smile. He buys you a fruity drink and you laugh at his jokes. He lets you bitch about the stupid frat guy that just broke your heart, he even offers to kill ‘em if you give Billy his address. You laugh that off too, but there is intent behind his words that you don’t pick up on.
For a second Billy feels like the most normal person in the world. You’re not the daughter he’s been keeping tabs on since you moved to the city— now mere inches away from him instead of states apart. And he’s not the bastard everyone else knows him as, crawling around in your peripherals looking for a chance to pounce.
He shouldn’t have invited you back to his place, but you were far too drunk to walk home alone- plus his apartment is just around the corner! You wobble on your heels following him inside, and Billy catches you.
You start babbling and hiccuping and squirming in his arms. You’re body is feeling heavy and your head is foggy, usually just one drink doesn’t get you more than a little tipsy.
“How’s about Daddy takes care of you tonight, sweetheart?” And you giggle into Billy’s neck, nodding and running your fingers through the rough hair on his face.
“You- you wanna be my daddy?” You look up at him with lidded eyes, he brushes a fallen eyelash from your cheek.
“That’s all I’ve ever wanted.” You don’t catch the subtext between slow blinks, looking up at your father with no idea what you’ve gotten yourself into.
Billy makes a mental note to not dose you this strong next time, he almost feels bad at how out of it your are. But you also fall into the mattress so easy and you arch your back so pretty when Daddy’s hands paw at your ass.
He fucks you raw and deep. You cry out for your daddy and beg to be his good little girl. You want nothing more than to be a daddy’s girl, even barely conscious. That burns in Billy’s blood, pumping into your poor pussy even harder. He’s got a lot of making up to do.

Dean would never consider himself soft. Sure, he was good with kids, but only because he basically had to raise Sam by himself. Those experiences in his own childhood slipped from his hands like sand in an hourglass, and that little ball of softness went right with it.
Until one case in Louisiana, when it practically fell right into his arms.
He and Sam had been there tracking a coven of witches in New Orleans, like something straight out of American Horror Story. Based on the news reports, the victims were all friends or family of one of the suspected witches– likely her initiation into the group, to prove she was worthy. A young girl had gotten caught in the crossfire, simply because she was roommates with one of them, and accidentally led the Winchesters right to the coven.
He’d seen you right before they began the real hunt, having gone back to your house for a final round of questioning. Truthfully, he’d gone by to flirt his way into checking the house for any hex bags, but your witchy roommate was good about keeping it out of her living space. When he didn’t find anything, he couldn’t seem to deny your offer for a cup of coffee, while you did your best to inquire about the case.
“Why do you think Rebecca is involved?” You asked, somewhat nervously.
You sat across from Dean as he sat on the couch, cross-legged in a papasan chair, one hand tapping your thigh nervously and the other holding your floral patterned mug.
“We’re just trying to rule her out as a suspect, Ma’am. As soon as we do that, the sooner we can get to figuring out what’s been happening around here.” He had reassured you. “Are you sure you haven’t been noticing any irregularities in her routine?”
“We have each other on some tracking app, just to be safe, y’know? She tells me that she leaves her job at 7:30 every Thursday, which is a fifteen minute drive from here. Rebecca would always tell me when she should be home, just in case anything happened,” You sighed.
Dean’s eyebrows raised as he waited patiently for you to continue.
“About three months ago, she just kinda’ stopped doin’ it. She’s been going out a lot more than normal, with a big group of girls– met ‘em at work, she said.” “Do you know where they’ve been going?”
“Mostly just to clubs around town. I checked one day because she hadn’t been home all night and I was worried. Her last location was some place near Lake Pontchartrain, a few miles deep into the woods. I tried finding it online, but nothing turned up. Rebecca hates being outside, she hates camping and all that stuff, so there’s no reason for her to be there.”
“Do you happen to have an exact location?”
Your head shook. “It’s a big area, not a lot of cell towers.”
Dean leaned forward and took your hand, which had still been tapping against your leg. “I’ll take whatever you’re willing to give me, Sweetheart.” The next night, a Thursday, Sam and Dean had tracked the coven down to some ritual spot in the middle of the forest. It didn’t take them long, considering that half a mile out, they could hear terrified cries for help.
They found you, tied to a tree and begging for your life as the witches teased and taunted you– even the girl who you told them you considered your best friend.
“You know, Y/N, you’re just too sweet sometimes. You even let an entire coven slip under your nose, because you couldn’t think for a second that your best friend would ever hurt you.” Rebecca sneered, kneeling in front of you and tracing the swell of your cheek with a knife.
“Please, Becca, don't hurt me, I won’t tell anyone!” You cried, tugging against the ropes that cut into your wrists.
Dean was ready to jump out and kill her right then, but Sam’s arm across his chest kept him at bay. For now. “Don’t hurt me! Please, spare me. Killing you is the key to getting everything I’ve ever wanted! You’re the one who kept telling me to do what I wanted for once!” Dean watched as the large bonfire cast an orange glow over your terrified features, and his chest ached that he couldn’t quell that fear. It made him think back to Lisa, how much he cared for her. Only after a week, wasDean absolutely enamored with you.
It didn’t take long for the brothers to swing into action, killing the witches with surprising ease. They were plenty in number, but their skill couldn’t rival the brothers’ experience.
As Sam cut your ropes, Dean was chasing after Rebecca as she chanted out a string of Latin. By the time he killed her, the damage had been done and you were writhing on the forest floor, water coming out of your mouth like there was a well in your lungs.
You collapsed into Dean’s arms, grasping at your throat as your eyes watered, chest heaving through the pain.
“Find the fucking bag!” Dean yelled, maneuvering you on your knees, face pointed at the ground as you drowned in open air. Sam dropped to the ground, fumbling through piles of leaves and dirt to find the offending item. In the scramble, the hex bag was kicked near the fire, causing Dean to yank his gun out and shoot it, breaking the spell.
You gasped for breath like a fish out of water as you coughed up the last of the water wheezing and panicking from the fear. “It's okay, you’re safe.” Dean comforted, holding you to his chest as your body was wracked with sobs.
“I’ve got you, Sweetheart.”
When they were leaving town, Dean made one last stop to visit you in the hospital where you were recovering.
“How are you feelin’, Sweetheart?” He asked, sitting next to your hospital bed. The doctors had decided to keep you for observation for a few days, citing potential damage to your lungs.
“Like hell,” You said with a grin. “Y’all headin’ off?”
Dean nodded. “Gotta head back home. Do you have anywhere you’re planning on going once you’re out of this dump?”
“Not really. I don’t have any family I’m close to, so nobody to couch-surf with. I’m definitely leavin’, though. ‘M not quite sure where I’ll end up.”
He could hear the tinge of sadness in your voice. He knew what it was like to not have a family, a place to call home. He knew it all too well.
“Come with us.”
The rest was history.
Dean couldn’t help but think back to that day often. How lucky he was to have saved at least one life that day. Your life.
He often felt dirty. You were a bright young girl, who could’ve had a great future, had you not been caught up in the mess of their lives. Not once did you ever complain, going with the flow and learning what you could to help them. You were so selfless, almost to a fault; you put up with his temper, his yelling, and when he was feeling particularly annoying. You helped clean his wounds when he was hurt, and when he was once sick, you made him tomato and rice soup, that tasted just like what Mary would make when he still held his innocence.
Dean took his whiskey neat, while you stuck to those same girly cocktails that Sam swore he didn't like.
You were too good to be tarnished by the likes of Dean Winchester.
Dean would always be an eternally bitter man who was constantly angry at something. He rose early due to incessant nightmares, drinking black coffee at three in the morning to stave off his near constant exhaustion. When those nightmares were about you, as they often were, nowadays, he would poke his head in your bedroom just a few doors down, his heart rate calming at how soft you looked, wrapped up in your blankets and a small light on your desk casting a warm light around the room.
Your skin would always glow under the light, illuminating your features and the curve of your nose, how your hair fell into your face and how you would let out a wistful sigh every so often.
You were such a stark contrast to the man who stood in your doorway almost every night. If Dean was marble, you were a flower that could be crushed under it. He was the knife, you were the sacrificial lamb. No matter what universe, Dean would ultimately be your demise, just like everyone else in his life.
As he would gently close the door, he would take one last look at you and whisper one sentence.
“You’re too sweet for me.”

Hi! Could I request ADA members with a s/o who stopped paying them so much attention because they decided that Kenji is their child now and that they'll protect him and show him tons of love? (Not sure if it's understandable so - s/o is playing with Kenji instead of spending time with (character))
I hope I got it right lol please beat me if I did
ADA members with a s/o who 'parents' Kenji (Atsushi, Dazai, Yosano, Ranpo)
Atsushi
You don't work at the ADA and being friends with the members is important to Atsushi considering they're his only family
So seeing you get along so well Kenji makes him happy - he sees him as a brother in some ways
But having him encroach on his time with you has made him a little jealous - he's working on it, but you come to the ADA to visit him not Kenji
So seeing how much time Kenji takes up? A little difficult to take up
You even say "where's my boy?" when referring to him
Excuse you? He's your boy
The orphanage did not help him when it came to relationship stuff like this. He is a little needy for your time - sue him, he just wants to be with his s/o
Will try to now avoid having the two of you meet up at the ADA or meet his coworkers so he can get as much time with you as possible (it doesn't work. they always find him.)
Dazai
He thought it was great at first
Tried to tease Kenji by pretending to be his dad
Would annoy Kunikida too
"Oh, sorry, my son needs help, I can't do paperwork right now. Maybe next time!"
Since you and Kenji are so close he'll try to make him do tasks he doesn't want to do - if Kenji is coming over then he will make that poor boy do any sort of housework he was too lazy to do
He is annoyed though when he has to act PG-13 around him because you would beat him otherwise
You also let him join your lunch dates occasionally along with Kyouka - it's just downstairs, why would you force those kids to pay for their meals?
You take them around the city too - Dazai is of course forced to join you
No point in arguing, he's basically forced to act like their dad for the day
At least he gets compliments for it
Yosano
She's really fond of Kenji - he's a sweetheart, an angel
So I feel like she would be pretty ok with being more friendly with him
Convinced you would hangout with Kenji when she's doing her "operations" since they might take a while
He would get you two to go on fun dates though - probably some cottage core stuff like picking fruit trees
It's mostly those two doing the picking while you come over and bring them water and snacks
She doesn't have the heart to be jealous about you giving a lot of time to Kenji
But she is very honest with her feelings if she starts to feel left out
She loves Kenji but she has her limits too
Ranpo
He definitely plays along with it
The man is childish as hell but I don't think he would get upset at something like this
If anything it's the perfect time to but into the situation and be annoying
He drags Kenji into pretending to be 10 and going to stores with the two of you so you can get good deals or free snacks (they're all for him)
It does lead to Kenji following him into his lunch dates with you though, which he hates because he can't ever let Kenji pay for himself since he's so young (childhood trauma is real)
He definitely plays up being a "fun dad" around him and Kyouka, especially when you're around
Convinced he's relieving the time he had with his parents before they died, so that's part of why he enjoys it so much
I'd do more but these guys are probably the most interesting for the prompt tbh !?

His doctors made you all sit down and had the upsetting talk that you were dreading since you had entered the hospital.
You weren't even listening to him because your mind kept drifting towards the last conversation you had with the man you had loved all your life, that's not how you wanted to leave it behind, you didn't want that to be his last memory of you, the one that ended with anger and resentment.
You'd never be able to forgive yourself for hurting your father like that. When the doctors told you that he was stable for now but we needed to prepare ourselves for all possibilities you breathed a sigh of relief, you just wanted to lay next to him like you used to do as a child every time you had a scary nightmare and this is exactly what this felt like..A nightmare.
“Go home sweety..get your sleep and then come back “ you heard your mom's voice but shook your head in response.
“I am not going anywhere until he's up” you told her so she nodded in understanding.
“He's fine..he's conscious but he needs his rest, you heard the doctors”
You heard them all too well but you had to tell him that you loved him, as you made your way in his room he did give you a smile, that made you feel a tad better because then you were able to hold onto him and tell him how much you loved him and how much you didn't want him to leave you.
He didn't say much but he clearly expressed to you that he loved you more than anything in the world and he even jokingly asked you to not tell your mother that he had said that to you. For a moment you felt normal, the way things used to be before your world turned upside down and you were glad that you had that conversation with him before you went home that night because he didn't make the night..he didn't survive, he left your mother as a widow at such an young age and you had truly lost a parent now.
You weren't even there to see him take his last breath. When Daemon knocked on your door late at night and you saw his tear stained cheeks you knew what he was going to say and perhaps he'd have hugged you but losing a parent was one of the worst pain imaginable, he had lost both of his parents and he could imagine what you were going through in the moment.
He knew you wouldn't want to be held or touched at the moment so he just stood there and allowed you to break down on the floor, he watched you wail and cry for what felt like hours, even though it has barely been a few minutes, when he wasn't able to take it anymore he stepped inside the room and bent down on his knees to pull you into his arms.
“Take me to mama please..I need mommy” your broken cries broke his heart as well but he knew he'd have to be stronger so he could take care of you.
“I know sweetheart.. I know you do..i'll take you to her love” he whispered softly in your ear but he knew nothing could have made you feel better in that moment.. nothing.
The funeral was to be held five days later, your father had stated his wish beforehand and had asked for all the family members and relatives to be there. That included his real brother and his family. As your mum's sisters arrived you let go of your mum, perhaps that's who she really needed at the moment so you stayed in your room, numb and motionless, reality still didn't seem real. Daemon came to check on you and he brought something for you to eat every time he came but you didn't say a word to him, you couldn't.
On the day of his funeral, the rest of the family members kept showing sympathy towards you but you only felt anger towards them, none of them visited him once he had disclosed his illness with the world so their presence and tears only irked you further.
Everytime you looked at Daemon you found his eyes glued to you, he was worried about you, that you could tell. Your father had left a will behind where he stated that he was signing off the 10 percent of his shares in the company to him which in your dad's case was a fortune to handover to someone and a part of you felt relieved that he hadn't looked over everything Daemon had done for him. Rest as expected would belong to you, your mum got the mansion and he had left enough for her that she could live her whole life luxuriously without even lifting a finger of her own.
But all of that was given, what shocked you to the core was the letter he had left for both Daemon and you, a letter that stated his consent, his blessings, he wanted to tell you both that if being with each other was what brought you two happiness then he didn't want to take that away from you two and he didn't want to hurt you most of all, even during the last conversation you had with him he didn't give you an indication that he was willing to bow down to your wishes so that really came as a surprise.
As the funeral ended, everyone moved to the mansion for the dinner but you couldn't find Daemon anywhere, it's been a week since you even had a conversation with him and now that the funeral was over with you were finally able to see your reality for what it was. Your father was gone and he wasn't going to come back no matter how much you wanted things to go back to the way they were, that part of your life was over but you were still here and your mum was here and you knew you'd have to take care of her now the way he did.
Your mum had support around her in the form of her sisters and other close friends. You did as well, Rhaneyra was there for you every moment you needed her but right now you didn't need a friend, you needed your man.
When he opened his door he was still in the black suit he had on for the disposition but he had taken the jacket off,
“Are you busy?” You asked him so he gave you a small smile, very small, it would have gone unnoticed if you didn't know him as well as you did.
“Did you umm read the letter?’ you asked him so he sighed in response. He wasn't sure he wanted to talk about that so soon.
“Did you?”
“Mmmhmmm..i did “ you looked down as you answered him, your fingers were fidgeting so he grabbed your hands in his and made you stop shaking, as you looked up at him his eyes were staring down at you,
“You can talk to me my sweet Pixie pup, you don't have to be alone in this, don't have to suffer alone..” your eyes welled up at the sweet sound of his voice.
“I feel guilty..i feel like i wasn't a good daughter and i feel like he was disappointed in how i turned out to be” he placed his one thumb on your lips as you said that, other one wiped your dripping tears, your lips were trembling and he knew your father's out of nature behavior in his last days would lead to you feeling this way, that's what he had feared.
“Shhh that's just untrue, your father loved you more than anything in the world ..that never changed for him, he was just trying to make you stronger and didn't really know how to go about that”
“You promise?”
“Promise, i knew him and nothing mattered to him more than you and your mum” you nodded as he said that. You really hoped that was true.
“He was your friend…I'm so sorry that you lost him again” his eyes teared up as you said that.
“I know..I'm sorry too”
You brought your hands up and ran it over the seam of his shirt, he was so close to you and you had missed him this close to you, none of you were drunk at the moment and you really wanted to kiss him.
“Why write a letter, why didn't he tell us himself?” You asked him so he looked at you for a moment, he knew the answer, you did as well but you wanted to see what he had to say about that.
“Perhaps he thought he had more time” You nodded as he said that.
No, that wasn't the answer you were looking for.
“Ummm i should go and check on mum downstairs “
“Alright” he stepped away from you as you said that and you swiftly turned around to leave. He watched you leave and the door shut on your way out, taking a deep breath he ran his fingers through his hair and he wasn't really anticipating for you to come back but you did, you opened his door and this time as you got in you locked it.
Standing against the door you stared at him for a moment before you walked towards him and kissed him. His hands immediately went around your hips as he pulled you closer to him, he had waited enough and he wasn't going to wait no more, he wasn't going to sacrifice anymore to please his best friend's soul, your father was gone but he was still here and he loved you and you loved him and he was going to make you happy for as long as you'd need him in your life.
You pulled away from him barely for a moment just to breathe in before your lips clashed again, your fingers were already undoing the buttons of his shirt and he didn't stop you either. You didn't want him to stop tonight, it almost felt blasphemous to indulge in your lust on such a day but you needed him, not just by your side but all around you, you needed him up close and inside you, you really needed him and you weren't going to sleep alone and cold in your bed tonight.
As you jumped into his arms he walked you a few steps and laid you down on the bed, his breaths were heavy that mirrored yours, passion was swirling in your veins, it's been almost a year since he had returned in your life and you had gone months craving him the way you did at the moment. You didn't want to wait anymore.
He wanted to get a verbal confirmation but as he looked into your eyes he didn't need your words anymore, he didn't want to talk, he just wanted to fuck you tonight and turn you his, make you his girl that he knew he was going to protect and cherish in every possible way.
As you sat up to pull him into the bed, his hands sneaked around you and he unzipped your black dress, your underwear and bra was discarded quickly as well while you unbuttoned his pants and then took his shirt off, burying your face between the crook of his neck you took a deep breath, like a drug his scent he intoxicated you almost instantly,
“I love you..I'm so in love with you it hurts me but I would never want to stop hurting this way Daemon..” you whispered in his ear and your words made him shiver in all the good ways.
Sure he had been in love before, sure he had spent countless nights tangled around his ex wife but the euphoria he felt in that moment was unreal, he felt alive and he felt younger than he had ever felt in his life. In that moment nothing mattered to him, not the fact that he was two decades older than you, he didn't remember that little girl he knew, he just wanted to spoil the woman that was writhing in his arms and clinging to him as if he was everything she'd ever need in life.
Grabbing your bare thighs he opened your legs apart and a sweet giggle escaped your throat as you laid back down on the bed, after such a long time you didn't feel any pain you just felt that sweet sensation that was coursing through you from head to toe, your smile disappeared and face contorted as you felt his cock thrusting in your wet cunt in one quick motion.
"So fucking beautiful"
A countless times in your head you had imagined how this would go but nothing could have prepared you for the pleasure you were about to receive. Sure you had sex before with someone you thought you could marry someday but he never made you feel this way, how could he when you were born for the man that was on top of you at the moment.
“Look how well you're taking me sweet girl”
A moan escaped your throat as he placed his forearms next to your head and trapped you underneath his body, his lips trailed all over your face and your neck as he thrusted in and out of you slowly, torturously slow, he wanted to take his time, make this a night you'd remember not for the loss you had suffered but for the love he was willing to offer you all your life.
Your fingers trailed over his back, nails dragging over his satin skin and as you moved your hands down and clasped those firm cheeks between your fingers he let out a grunt, a deep manly grunt that would be the subject of your wet dreams for years to come.
He was your dream come true and you never wanted to forget that, you wanted to engrave this moment in your head so someday if you'd end up taking him for granted like your father did you'd remember how much you had prayed for him to be yours.
You wanted to treat him like the man that he was, a man like him deserved to be worshiped in every possible way and you were going to worship him in all the ways you could.
You wanted to keep your life in his hands because that's how much you trusted him.
“I'm going to..ohhh godd” your words got cut off as a wave of pleasure traveled through every inch of your existence.
“Gonna cum hmm? That's okay my love..i do intend to make you crumble until you're all spent”
“Mmmm well that too but–” a loud moan spilled from your throat as your orgasm hit you out of nowhere, and as your walls clenched around him it took everything in him to not spill inside you right in that moment.
“Ohhh God oh God oh goddd…ohhh my-- ” you kept mumbling under your breath as you rode your high and he gave you a moment of peace, he was still, he didn't move at all but after a few seconds he grabbed your thighs again and wrapped it around his waist as he began to thrust again..
“What were you going to say before?” he whispered his question in your ear and it made you smile, you felt a bit hazy, your body felt lighter underneath him as if you were floating on a cloud, your clit was still tingling from that mind-blowing orgasm you had just experienced.
In that moment you understood why Cassandra was so obsessed with him and why Stella wasn't able to let him go. Not that you needed sex in order to feel that way about him, lucky for you he didn't belong to anyone else anymore. He was yours.
“Someday I'm going to marry you and you can't do anything to stop that”
You mumbled softly and watched his face warm up, blush arose his cheeks and there was that sweet smile on that beautiful face that always made your heart flutter.
“I have no choice huh?”
“Nope”
He kissed down from your neck and then caught your nipples between his lips as he sucked on them one by one slowly, thrust after thrust he ruined you more n more, nothing would ever feel as good as he did in that moment, his fingers linked with yours and the sound of his ragged groans and grunts indicated that he was close, well that and the way every vein on his cock was pulsating inside you.
“Uncle.. please”
“Good fucking girl of mine...you can't ..oh fuck” he placed his head down between the crook of your neck as he came, hips kept moving on its own, your arms curled around his neck and legs entrapped him completely as you stroked his hair, and as you felt his warm cum fill you up you shattered again as well, you gave yourself a moment to realise that the man you had lusted for all your childhood was spilling his release inside you and was taking you in every possible way.
A part of you still felt as if you were dreaming still because you couldn't comprehend the reality, your reality in that moment was prettier then any dream your mind could have conjured, once he came down to his senses he collapsed next to you as he didn't want to crush you under his weight, though you'd not have mind one bit.
Both of your breathings were still ragged from the act-
“Wowwww..okay..you're no old man like you keep telling me in order to deter me”
He chuckled as you said that,
“well I have a few good years of sex left in me it seems”
“Will make it count”
After taking a much needed shower he wrapped you around in a warm blanket and snuggled you, perhaps you could have stayed up and had a talk but your body felt so relaxed that it didn't take you long to fall asleep in his arms.
Next morning when he woke up you weren't there next to him and his heart clenched, he was hoping to wake up with you but perhaps you needed to sneak out of his room before your other family members would see you doing so. They didn't know yet and he wasn't sure now if you wanted to disclose this relationship in public considering everything. He grabbed his phone to give you a call but a text you had sent him made his heartbeat speed.
“we need to talk”
He was immediately anxious by that.
Suddenly he didn't feel so positive, he felt nauseous instead. Did you regret last night? Maybe he should have controlled himself, you had just lost your father and he shouldn't have fucked you like that as soon as he was gone.
Especially when he knew the truth.
You were currently in your mum's room brushing her hair because she wasn't feeling well, well your parents' room if you were being honest with yourself, it felt hollow without him though. Growing up your father was a very busy man and there came a time when you were used to not seeing him for a long stretch of time but at least you knew he'd always come back.
“I hope you know that he never wanted you to feel as if you weren't enough for him..he loved you more than anything” your mum mumbled softly so you gave her a smile.
“I know mum..I hope you know that too …ummm can I ask you something personal?”
You asked her so she gave you a smile from the mirrorview,
“I know you both have hurt each other and uhh ..well do you think you should have told him the truth back then when you weren't not entirely faithful to him?” She looked down for a moment as you questioned her.
“I have thought about it countless times, but no I don't think I should have told him the truth, our relationship was fragile at the time and we would have lost each other. I'd have lost these happy years I spent with him if i wasn't able to keep a secret”
You nodded as she said that.
But keeping a relationship that was built on lies, was that the right thing do?
“He's a good man” she said to you so you sighed,
“i know mum..i know he was a good man”
“I'm not talking about him sweetheart”
You looked at her as she said that
“Well..I know that as well. I know it's weird for you and everything but I can't..i can't help the way I feel for him”
“I don't blame you but you have no idea what this will do to him..once the truth gets out in the public he'd be the one to take the fall for it..just make sure you'd be ready for that”
“I won't let him fall..” you wrapped your arms around her shoulders and hugged her from behind before you placed a kiss on her temple.
After getting ready as Daemon went downstairs the living room was filled with your relatives, he saw you on the couch sitting next to your mum. He looked at you to gauge your reaction. You did glance at him once but quickly averted the gaze which honestly didn't make him feel any better.
Your uncle's voice rang louder as he was arguing over the content of the will your father had left behind, he didn't understand how Daemon got the shares in his business but his own brother didn't.
“Wow, are you really that surprised by his decision? Where were you in the last few months?” you chuckled as you asked him and your mom gave you a look to keep quiet but you won't be quiet anymore, your father knew what he was doing and who he could trust with his money and his empire, that's why he reached out to Daemon because he knew Daemon never harbored ill intentions towards him even though he had every opportunity to do so considering what your dad had done to him.
You had learned to stand up for yourself in the last few months and you won't have snakes and leeches around you or your family so they could harm you someday, especially Daemon, he'd do anything to protect you so you were going to do the same.
“Where was I? I have a life, I'm not an unemployed imbecile living on my friend's riches like that arse over here”
Daemon crossed his arms as he heard your uncle spitting venom against him, he was showing his true colors in the open now that your father wasn't here and he wasn't in the least bit surprised “And what does she know about the business world?” He asked your mum and that's when you knew you had to speak up.
“Daemon works for Panache, my dad hired him because he knew better and he's absolutely not going anywhere now that I'm the CEO..but you know who's going to leave this house right fucking now? You” Your voice was filled with anger as you said that and Daemon had never felt so turned on in his life as he did in the moment.
“Y/n behave yourself –” your mum interrupted you so you looked at her.
“Mum–”
“I said behave–”
She glared at you and you didn't want to disrespect her in front of everyone so you got up and left for your room upstairs, on the way out you looked at Daemon, hoping that he'd come talk to you as you really needed to talk to him.
A few minutes later as you heard the knock on your door you quickly pulled him inside by grabbing his hand.
“Are you alright?” He asked you so you nodded
“I'm just so sick of those leeches out there”
“That's not what I meant”
“What did you mean?” you looked at him confused so he sighed and placed his hands on his waist to contemplate his thoughts.
“Are we alright? I mean I know perhaps our lovemaking last night wasn't what you expected. I woke up and you're not there by my side and then you sent me that text that uhh-”
He stopped speaking as he noticed a smile on your face
“Awnnn I made you worry didn't i?”
You walked closer to him and grabbed him by the collar of his business suit to pull him even closer to you “Did you not see me almost passing out last night because of your gorgeous dick?” his brows furrowed as you cupped the bulge in his pants shamelessly
“I am just worried about you..you're grieving and perhaps I shouldn't have–”
“I don't regret it ..i could never..i promise baby..please believe me”
“You're going to call me baby now?”
“Mmmhm” you leaned into him to cup his cheeks and then you kissed him ..as lovingly as you could but before things could heat up he pulled you away.
“Hang on..why did you send me the text?”
“Well there's is something I need to discuss with you”
“About what?”
“About me being a CEO”
“Don't allow your uncle to hurt your confidence ..he knows nothing about what it takes to be in that position”
“It's not him Daemon ..it's me..it's a me problem"
“What is it darling?” He asked you softly as he cupped your cheeks
“I'll tell you but can we make out first? And maybe I will give you something to remember for the rest of the day?” he chuckled as he leaned down to kiss you
“I need to be at work and so do you”
“No you need to be in me Mr. Daemon”
“Shhhh naughty girl.. first thing in the morning jesus christ”
He shut you up real good by kissing every breath out of you and as you started to kiss down from his neck to his chest and then lowered down on your knees he knew what you wanted to do.
“Darling you're going to crumple my suit”
You looked at him as he said that.
“Are you always this iffy about receiving pleasure?”
“No ..only when I know your parents and the whole clan is downstairs and they're all wide awake and you want to blow me right against the door”
“Parent ..just one..i only got one now” as you looked up at him and unbuttoned his pants he let out an exasperated sigh.
“Please uncle?” you gave him the puppy eyes and the forbidden name which he responded to by grabbing the sides of your head. The next thing he knew you were sucking him in as if he was your first meal of the morning. He brought one of his hands up to run his fingers through his hair, his head was leaned against the door, he wanted to look at everything you were doing to him but he couldn't when you pleased him like that, however all his senses awakened when you took a five second break from licking and sucking to drop a bomb on him.
“I want you to take over the CEO position”

So Kris, I’ve been thinking about Cole and his relationship with Steve. He seems a bit…out of the whole vampire loop. Would you want to give us some insight into how Cole fits into Steve’s crew? And why Steve treats him the way he does?
Chelsea! Ok, here's a little drabble* that I hope, at least somewhat, answers some of these questions. Thank you for indulging all of the little avenues of world-building I constantly want to go down. 💜
*And by "little" and "drabble" I mean just over 1k.
There's no pairing or reader-insert character here, just Cole and Steve having a chat. With dinner crying in the background. This takes place about a decade before Everybody Wants to Rule the World.
This is My Four Leaf Clover
Warnings: violence, gore, death, a lot of blood. Vampire stuff, basically. Also, talk of being unhoused.
Tumblr media
Cole sat in the small bedroom, unsure what he was doing there. It was nice, well-appointed, luxurious, but a little bland. Probably a guest room. He didn’t belong there. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d bathed or gotten new clothes. Everything was ratty, every part of him was dirty. He didn’t know why he’d been brought here.
The door opened. The man who’d found him in the alley and brought him here, Steve, came in, dragging a young woman behind him. She was kicking out, flailing really, and sobbing. But she was so pretty. He noticed that right away.
Steve shoved her into the corner and then looked her in the eye. “Stay,” he said firmly and she stopped moving, but her whimpers and cries continued. Cole’s fangs dropped, he couldn’t help it. Steve then took a seat next to Cole. “I brought you something to eat,” he said gently, gesturing to the girl. “Actual food.” Cole blushed. Steve had found him trying to take down a raccoon to have for dinner. It hadn’t been going well. “But first,” Steve said, “I need you to answer some questions. You know what you are?”
Cole ran his tongue over one of his fangs and nodded. “I’m a vampire, right?”
Him asking for confirmation seemed to take Steve aback a bit, but he nodded. “Yes, sweetheart, you’re a vampire. We both are. Who turned you? They didn’t explain it to you?”
“Uh, it was a woman? Her name was Sadie, I think. I met her at a bar one night and took her home, then I must have passed out. When I came to, she was gone. There was–” he closed his eyes for a moment, remembering. “there was a lot of blood. And I felt… different. But I never saw her again.”
Steve scowled and turned his head, muttering, “Of all the irresponsible–” He sighed and turned back to Cole. “How long ago was this?”
“Uh,” Cole hemmed. “I’m not sure exactly. Time is– It’s been hard to keep track of time. But years, I think. Some years.”
“And you’ve been on your own this whole time?”
“Yeah,” Cole nodded.
Steve looked pointedly at his ratty clothes. “Ok. And where are you living right now?”
“Um,” Cole ducked his head and ran his hand over the back of his neck, embarrassed. “You saw it. Earlier.”
Steve looked pained at that. “Honey, why didn’t you find a place to stay?”
“I was living on my parents' farm when I was turned and when I woke up, I just– I could hear the blood flowing in their veins. I had to leave. But I didn’t really have anywhere to go, so. I don’t know. I ran out of money a while ago. And I figured out real quick that daytime is no good, so that eliminated most jobs. I take nighttime work when I can, but,” the girl in the corner caught his attention again, and he gulped, “being around people is hard.”
Steve looked confused. “Honey, we don’t work. We don’t need money. You sweet thing. Alright,” Steve moved on, “why the raccoon?”
Cole closed his eyes again. “Uh, I’m not very good at– at stopping. And then I didn’t know what to do with the bodies? It drew a lot of attention. So small animals seemed easier. But it’s hard to get enough.”
Steve sighed. “I can imagine. You’re gaunt, honey. Ashen. I bet you’re weak, too. You’re just a babe in the woods, aren’t you? You aren’t cut out for this at all.” He brushed a finger over Cole’s cheek and Cole couldn’t help the shiver that moved through his body. “Well, we can deal with the hunger right now.” He turned to the girl in the corner. “Come here,” he said, and shockingly, she did. She stood where Steve directed her, but the moment Cole touched her, she started fighting again. And in his weakened state, he couldn’t overpower her. “Make her calm down,” Steve directed.
Cole looked at him, confused, as he continued to try to fight her into submission. “What? How?”
Steve stared at him dumbfounded for a moment then recovered and chuckled to himself. “This explains so much,” he said. “Honey, we can make people do whatever we want. Give us whatever we want. We don’t need money. We have power. We take.” He grabbed the girl easily and made her look him in the eye. “Calm down,” he said. “Be still,” and now that Cole was paying attention, he could tell that this was different. More. She immediately stilled for Steve, who passed her over to Cole. “Now,” Steve said to him, “go ahead, take your time.”
Cole took a moment to just hold her in his arms. She was so soft. So pretty. He tried to look her in the eyes, make a connection, but her gaze was glassy like she couldn’t actually see him. He tried to swallow down his disappointment as he moved his nose over her neck. She smelled so good. So feminine. Maybe, if he asked, Steve would help him keep her. He’d be so good to her. He would. But right now, he was so hungry. He sank his fangs into her neck and drank, sucking on her throat, relishing the blood as it rushed into his mouth. He swallowed, over and over, as he held her as close as he could. Distantly, he could hear someone calling to him to slow down, to stop, but none of it registered. She was so good, so delicious, everything he needed.
When he was finally sated, he pulled away, her body dropping limply to the floor. He looked at her and was horrified to see that a chunk of her throat was missing. He looked down. He was covered in her blood. He looked up at where Steve was now standing, preparing himself for rage, or disappointment, or something, but the man was placid. Steve just sighed. “That’s ok, honey. It’s alright. We’ll work on it.”
