Spn Opinions That’ll Have Me Burned at the Stake Pt. 2: Electric Boogaloo

I’m back and bitchier than ever. For reference, here’s part 1.

• Season 5 wasn’t that great.

• D*stiel isn’t real, it’s a sucky ship, and that confession scene was just the writers pandering to the rabid deancas fans cause they knew they were the only ones still watching the show lol. And they left it ambiguous enough that they could still say it was meant platonically if they needed to.

• I hate how they watered down both angels and demons post-season 5ish.

• I liked Ruby 1.0 better than Ruby 2.0.

• I hate Honey!Cas. They just did that cause they didn’t know where to take his story from there, needed him out of the way, and thought it would be funny. It was insulting.

• Jack should’ve been played by an actual child so everyone’s abuse of him would resonate with the audience for what it was (casual fans are brain dead and need to be spoon fed).

• Victor Henrikson deserved more time on the show.

• I said it in the last post, but Alex is way more interesting than Claire and should’ve been given the lead role in the wayward sisters storyline instead.

• Dean is canonically straight and for Christ sake if you guys wanted bi rep, there’s about a thousand other characters that are strongly coded or implied to be bisexual (including Sam!) but y’all didn’t focus on them because it wasn’t actually about representation, it was about making it more plausible for your dumb fetishised gay ship to actually happen (spoiler: it didn’t).

• Season 3 and Season 6 were some of the best ones, you guys just don’t have any taste.

• Claire is not Castiel’s daughter and saying she is erases Jimmy and insults her, and even Cas himself acknowledged that on the show.

• Castiel is canonically NOT gay and Misha constantly saying he is is annoying and airheaded. He’s been attracted to women IN THE SHOW and he’s not even really male, so calling him a Gay Man is reductive and just plain wrong. Also, it’s veeery sus that- given how bi/pan folks are even more underrepresented than gay people- that one of the rare times where the bi/pan label actually fits a character BETTER in CANON……. the allies and monosexuals adamantly reject it. Hm.

• “Curing” vampires or werewolves or demons shouldn’t have been a thing.

• The Winchesters cause most of the bad shit that happens and then they just force supernatural beings to fix it for them- tell me again how they’re Super Special Heroes.

• It shouldn’t be possible to make angels human by removing their grace, because (unlike demons, werewolves, etc) they were never human to start with. If you drained me of all my blood, I wouldn’t magically transform into another species, I’d fucking die.

• Making Billie go crazy was dumb.

• Rowena was one of the most interesting and charismatic characters on the whole show- they just didn’t know what to do with her character.

• The archangels, Lilith, and Azazel should’ve been the biggest threats on the show. No other knights of hell, no god and his sister, no Cain, nothing like that. Having every villain just get progressively more overpowered made the show unbelievable and repetitive and annoying.

• The kernel sanders king of hell guy was hot.

• Dean is misogynistic as HELL, homophobic, likes racist porn, is a narcissist, pervs on teen girls, & thinks all non-human people should be exterminated… and that is all CANON.

• Most of John Winchester’s abuse is fanon.

• Fans portraying Cas as a smol bby who colours in colouring books and has a bee plushie is so fucking annoying.

• Instead of having so many gigantic cosmic storylines with god and his sister and alternate dimensions and even the angel and demon tablets, they should’ve just scrapped those and made the stein family and the bmol and the alpha vampire storylines way bigger than they were. Less cosmic stuff, more earth-based stuff.

• They ruined Lucifer’s character post-season 5. Before that, he was more sympathetic and reasonable than Michael. After, he was a spoiled child hurting people for fun.

• Everything from season 7 on is garbage. All of it. There’s bits of goodness here and there but overall seasons 7-15 are trash.

• How the fuck are there actual people who are deangirls and hate Sam?? The space where your brain should be is empty, I swear to god.

• If there was gonna be any lgbt rep in the Wayward Sisters group, it should’ve been Jody and Donna instead of Claire and Kaia. Those two were boring as hell and had zero chemistry or build-up, but Jody/Donna had plenty of chemistry and was very believable.

• Meg has the best and most realistic redemption arc of anyone on the show.

• Chuck was not likeable or charismatic enough to carry off as big of a villain arc as they gave him. Also that whole thing was stupid and WAY too Out There.

• All the angels should’ve been aroace. All the demons should’ve been pan.

• I stanned Cole so hard up until he changed his mind about hating Dean. That was disappointing.

• Sam went through the same shitty childhood Dean did (plus Bonus Abuse on top of it) and he didn’t turn out Like That.

• I cannot think of a single person that was asking for a spin-off about the Winchester family, like that has to be the most boring thing.

One of the things that baffles me to this day is the fact that both Dean and Cas’s are based off of canonically queer characters, and yet the idea of us jumping to the conclusion that they themselves are queer is regarded by the writers as ridiculous.

For example, Castiel is a direct rip off of the character Constantine in the Hell Blazer comics. Constantine is canonically either bisexual or pansexual, depending on how you look at it. it is not a fact about him that is up for argument, seeing as how he has had both female and male partners throughout the run of a comics.

Dean is directly based off of Dean Moriarty from Jack Kerouac’s, On the Road- a character who is heavily implied to be bisexual throughout the course of the novel- and this isn’t just some speculation. This is heavily implied throughout the entire book, and this subtext from this book is also paralleled and reference in supernatural. Sam and Dean were based off of the two main characters in that book, Sal and Dean. Only in the novel they were not brothers. In fact, they were imply to be sexually interested in one another, and I think that this dynamic is what caused a lot of the running gags about Sam and dean being confused for being gay in the early seasons of supernatural, so making a nod to this implies that the writers were very much aware of the subtext that the character Dean is bisexual. Adding to this, the character of Dean is based off of the writer who he himself was confirmed to be bisexual after his death, which adds more credence to the argument.

“In his book Subterranean Kerouac, biographer Ellis Amburn called [Jack Kerouac] a “homophobic homoerotic” – a guilt-ridden Catholic who concealed his bisexuality via gay-bashing on the page. The sexual undertow of On the Road is very strange: while Sal and Dean refer contemptuously to “queers” and “fags” and Dean calls New York “a frosty fagtown“, we’re also made aware that he turns tricks with men to make cash. Even more apparent is Sal’s adoration of Dean. The narration sparks to life whenever Dean is around, and our attention is drawn to his muscular body and joie de vivre; by contrast, Sal’s descriptions of the many women he meets feel pedestrian and uninspired, more schoolboy fantasies than living flesh-and-blood romances. The strength of On the Road, and the source of much of its tragedy, comes mostly from the sparks that fly between Sal and Dean, two men who love and need each other but who are too conflicted and damaged to make it work.” (Hooray for Dead White Males)

They knowingly based Dean off of the bisexual man and then laughed at us when we brought up the possibility of Dean being bi, gaslighting at its finest.

As Bobby's ranch faces threats from the railroad company, trying to force him off the land to make way for a new rail line, Cas uncovers discrepancies in his family's intentions and accountant books.

The connection between the families is soon uncovered, and they are thrown together as they work to discover the depths of the mysterious corruption.

At the same time, Dean and Cas have to work through their own mysteries regarding each other and how life moving forward would look for them.

I absolutely fell in love with this story because it held my attention with a plot while also making me root for these two knuckleheads. I love western AUs, but I am also rather picky when it comes to depictions of the American West when it comes to this time.

I'm actually picky when it comes to fics in general!

But I loved this from the moment I read the first page, and I purposefully held off on reading any updates while @follows-the-bees was editing purely so I could have the joy of reading it again "for the first time."

If you're into action-packed westerns with a cute love story with real stakes, I recommend this story 100%! I'm sure you'll enjoy it from start to finish! <3

Yeah, blatantly transparent nonsense like this is exactly why no one should ever take them seriously [X].

"Erasing a canon character's sexuality makes you a homophobe!!! Also, only the parts of this character's sexuality I want to be true count!" 🤦

Let's agree for the sake of argument that Misha and Berens' last minute, lowest effort, intentionally ambiguous AF queerbait is definitive evidence of Castiel's sexuality. Not even because of the actual canon, but Word of God from the notoriously inconsistent cast troll and a bitter loser who thought he was entitled to get his knockoff spinoff greenlit and stuck around specifically to write that scene. Castiel was still canonically attracted to women and female vessels. Daphne, Meg, April, random women on the street when he became human. There are a few different orientations that might apply - or none at all since he's a wavelength of celestial intent in a human suit. But to say he's gay? No. That's so obviously not about his actual canon sexuality, because [gestures at the actual canon].

This is just like how they consistently insist Dean MUST be bisexual because of cake and eye contact and other random nonsense ... but then as the show went on and they became more convinced their ship was going to happen any day now when they worked themselves up on their own hot air over and over again? Whenever the show depicted him having any attraction or even connection to a woman, which should be perfectly acceptable if they were genuinely reading him as bisexual? It was fucking epic meltdown time. Because they didn't *really* want him to be bisexual. They wanted him to be into men so that they could demand he be into Castiel specifically. In contrast to all their farcical meta reading twenty layers deep into him making eye contact with someone he was just talking to or how Castiel not being present made it clear how much Dean was totes thinking of him? Well, not at all surprising they were deeply threatened by examples of Dean actually showing interest. They don't want him to be bisexual - for the most part, they don't even really want him to be gay. They desperately want him to be Cas-sexual. Which is so embarrassingly far from canon, I can't even.

They make it clear over and over again that they don't give a single flying fuck about respecting a character's canon sexuality or expanding good representation in media as a cause. They care about forcing Dean and Castiel together any way they think they can badger their way into making it happen.

Dean Winchester is Transmasc and Bisexual

Castiel is Gay (as confirmed by Misha) and non binary (preferences are He/Him or They/Them)

Sam Winchester is Pansexual and uses He/They pronouns

Jack Kline is Pansexual and uses all pronouns (he’s just a happy little nephilim :D)

Gabriel is Pansexual and Gender Fluid

Lucifer is bisexual and doesn’t care what pronouns people use

Michael is Gay and uses He/They

Adam is Gay and a cis male

Crowley is Bisexual (apparently confirmed???) and Transmasc (it’s canon that he kisses men when they make deals)

Bobby is a straight cis male but he’s probably one of the biggest allys
