Biodad Bruce Wayne Month 2021
Day 5
Stories/Memories
Bruce walked through the quiet halls to his study with his head bowed. There hadn't been noise in a long time. The reason wasn't too hard to guess.
As he passed the grand staircase he looked up at the top.
Jason and Marinette were at the top, climbing into a box and pushing themselves down, riding the bumps of the steps, moving widely in order to keep the box moving and not tip over, getting to the ground floor and sliding with a spin all the way into the far wall. They crashed and were laughing so hard they tipped over the box, ending up on the floor. Bruce shook his head with an exasperated smile. They were absolutely insane.
He continued down the halls, taking a detour in the kitchen. A fond smile found its way on his face as he watched Tim and Marinette fighting over the coffee machine, bad mouthing the others coffee as Dick was pouring himself a bowl of cereal. They eventually got it figured out but everyone knew how they kept stealing sips of the other, though they refused to admit how much they admired the others coffee making skills. It was a daily routine at that point.
Bruce grabbed a croissant, looking at it was a hint of sorrow. It was store bought. Bruce frowned as he took a bite. It lacked the fluffiness of a Dupain-Cheng treat and the care put into it by Alfred and was bland compared to the many types they had made together, trying out new things to see if they were any good.
Bruce passed the living room where Dick was hanging from the chandelier tying another blanket to it while Damian and Marinette worked at the bottom, propping some blankets up and some blankets tied to random things like door handles as they created the biggest blanket fort ever. Jason and Tim came running in, pillows stacked to the max in their arms, heading inside of the fort and dumping them onto the floor Marinette had decorated with a very comfortable, fluffy pink rug.
"I'll grab the snacks!" Tim said excitedly as he grabbed his skateboard from the corner of the room and jumped on it to skate out.
"I'm not letting you burn down the kitchen replacement!" Jason called racing after him on foot.
Bruce continued on through the halls where Jason had taken a bat and hit every statue, shattering them apart and leaving them there for when he came home. Where Tim had skated with Bernard, knocking into desks as he taught his boyfriend how to properly skate. Where Dick had followed him excitedly, a small child with the biggest puppy eyes, so excited to go on patrol as Robin. Where Duke had asked him if being part of the family meant participating in the prank war. Where Cass practiced her ballet, Steph following behind her, copying her movement, granted much less gracefulness. Where Marinette had run down it giggling with arms full of treats with Damian besides her with his own running from whomever they had stolen them from.
Bruce opened the door to his office to see Jason screaming at him as he sat at his desk. Dick scowled, back against the wall and arms crossed as he glared at him. Duke shaking his head and walking out. Damian sweeping all the papers off his desk in a fit. Alfred looked at him in disappointment. Cass and Steph leaning against each other, Cass a wall of concealed emotions while Steph had angry tears in her eyes. And Marinette…
Bruce dragged his feet over clean carpet floors in his dark office, his hand trailing the desk where each paper was neatly stacked and organized, sitting in his worn chair that had seen so much. He looked up and saw…nothing. The manor was silent. It was empty. He was alone.
Bruce let his head fall into his hands as he let regret and sorrow sweep him up in a wave.
He missed everyone. He missed his grandfather. He missed his kids. He missed Marinette. He wished he could have done it all differently. Maybe then she'd still be alive.

De-Aged
Jason: holy shit- she's so tiny!
Dick: *agitated* Jason, focus, what do we do??
Jason: *coos at the baby Marinette* I haven't seen her this small in forever.
Dick: we need- Jason! Focus! what do we do???
Jason: *shrugs* wait it out? I don't know.
Inspired by @bambicambi
Annoyance coursed through Marinette’s veins as she saw the new Akuma of the day.  Of course it happened when her family came to visit.  Looking up to the sky and praying for strength she turned her back to the chaos, something she would soon regret.  Her brothers were asking her what the heck was going on, and as she opened her mouth a baby pink ray of light hit her, and Marinette poofed and in her place sat 4-year-old Marinette Wayne.
Jason and Dick stared at the small child on the ground in shock and after the moments were over Jason eagerly picked her up and spun her around.
“Holy sh*!  She’s so tiny!”
Jason called out as he held the small giggling girl to his chest.  Dick, was rightfully frustrated and walking in small circles and quickly said,
“Jason, focus, what do we do?”
Upon hearing Jason making cooing noises, he swiftly turned to look at Jason.
“I haven’t seen her this small in forever!”
He exclaimed, nuzzling his nose against the small Marinette.
“We need-Jason!  Focus!  What do we do?”
Jason shrugged as he held Marinette against his hip.  She giggled and tugged at his jacket.
“Wait it out?  I don’t know.”
Dick opened her mouth, but stopped when Marinette began to speak.
“Jay-Jay!  Ride!  Ride!”
Jason’s grin grew and gently set her down while holding her hand.  He squared down and carefully released her hand.  He could not express the pure amount of joy he felt when she climbed onto his back and wrapped her tiny hands around his neck.
“Jason, have you just forgotten the weirdly dressed flying child that not only turned Marinette, but all of Paris into kids?!”
He…had forgotten.  But can you blame him?  Marinette was so tiny when she was a kid, and he hadn’t seen her like this in forever.
“Look, contact Zatanna while I keep her safe and distracted.”
Dick sighed in relief replying,
“Alri-wait a minute.”
Jason was already running with a giddily screaming Marinette.
“No fair, I want to cuddle my baby sister too!”
He sighed in frustration, and no he was not pouting.  Quickly pulling out his communicator he dialed Zatanna.
“Hello?”
“Hey, so I’m in Paris visiting some family, and this flying kid in really weird clothes is going around de-aging people.  Could you come see what’s going on please?”
“Pardon, but what?”
“Yea, it sho-“
Dick quickly ran through the streets dodging beams that were now directed towards him.  Why did stuff like this always happen when they traveled?
A few moments later a portal opened and he had never been more relieved to see Zatanna in his life.  Zatanna looked around and looked at the villain.  As she studied it and was about to jump in, a neon butterfly mask appeared over the child’s face and she realized what this was.
“I can’t do anything, sorry Dick.”
“What?!  Why?!”
“This is ancient magic, probably the most ancient magic in the universe.  There should be others…, see,”
She said pointing to a cat-like figure in the distance.  Dick stared in confusion, what was happening?
While Dick was trying to figure everything out Jason was having the time of his life with Tiny Mari.  He was especially thankful that when she was blasted that her clothes were transformed into a white t-shirt and overalls with lions stitched throughout them.  He had taken so many pictures of them.  We’re people running around everywhere scared, yes, yes they were.  But that didn’t stop him from enjoying as much time as he could with his tiny sister like he used to.
“Jay-Jay!  There’s a fairy in my pocket!”
“How is there a fairy in the Pixie’s pocket?”
He asked jokingly while swinging the hands back and forth!
“Lookin lookie!  It’s a Ladybug fairy!  She’s so pwetty.”
Marinette held Tikki in both of her hands and jumped up and down trying to get him to look.  Jason chuckled and looked down at the toy.  It was cute, he had never seen something like it before.  Then it blinked, and flew out of Marinette’s hand, and oh gosh, IT CAN TALK?!
“Marinette, you need to help Chat Noir defeat the akuma?”
“Akuma matata!”
Marinette called out with a giggle.  Jason would have laughed, if it weren’t for the flying bug thing talking to his sister, who was currently 4, telling her to help someone defeat the crazed villain.
“Woah!  Are you insane?!  Look at her?!  How do you expect her to fight?!”
The thing looked conflicted before sighing and saying,
“Well, do you want to fight it?  You just need to wear the earrings, I can run you through what you need to do!”
“No!”
Marinette screamed.
“I want to be like you and daddy!  It’s my turn to help people!”
“Marinette, you're too young.”
Tears began to well up in the small child’s eyes.
“I-it’s no fair!  You al-always say that!  I want to help!”
She finished stamping her foot definitely with a sharp glare.  Jason sighed in exhaustion and turned to the floating creature.  He mumbles under his breath,
“Can’t believe I’m letting this happen.”
He knew by the way Marinette was gripping at her ears and the definence in her stance.  He could easily take them by force, but he didn’t want to hurt her or make her angry and feel betrayed.
“Can you assure above all else that she will be completely and utterly safe.  I will join as well in my hero suit to make absolutely sure.”
“Yes, she has a partner as well who will watch out for her.”
He sighed in relief at that, but there was a new and very heavy weight on his chest that wouldn’t leave until this event was over.  He listened to the fairy tell Marinette what she needed to do and almost smiled at the determined face she was making.  Her cheeks were so chubby and-no, focus!  He pulled out an extra domino mask he always carried with him and zipped up his leather jacket.  When he turned around there was a burst of pink light and where Tiny Mari once stood stood his sister in the cutest outfit he had ever seen!  It was similar to his old Robin outfit, but closer to Tim’s as she thankfully felt that there needed to be pants.  She had small wings on her back with a black cape with red bottom edges that shielded them from view.  And in her hands was a tiny yo-yo.  Before anything else could happen, he quickly pulled out his phone and took pictures.  He wanted to show this to Bruce and brag, sue him.
Soon after that they both left to the rooftops.  He was honestly surprised by how easily she maneuvered around the roofs and how easily her yo-yo grappled and released from things.  They soon landed next to a Cat Woman knock-off who turned to look at them in surprise and exhaustion.  When Marinette saw him she quickly turned to him and tugged on his sleeve.  Jason crouched down and Mini-bug leaned close to his ear and whispered,
“Does Selie have a son?”
Jason snickered and glanced up at the kid.  He seemed to have heard them if the ears twitching and confused look said anything.
“No Pix.  He was just inspired.”
“Oh, okie-dokie!”
“So, I’m assuming you two know each other and she was hit out of suit?”
“Yep, basically.”
“Right.  Well, we just need to break the wand, but I can’t get close.”
“Little Lady, cast your charm.”
Mini-bug puffed up her cheeks making her old —and most adorable— thinking face before yelling out while throwing the yo-yo into the air,
“Lucky Charm!”
“A red and black spotted rubber bullet dropped into Mini's awaiting palms.  Jason promptly took the bullet and loaded it into his gun, it was the perfect fit.  The hideously dressed child flew over to them and flourished her wand creating the opening Jason needed.  With one quick shot the bullet flew through the air and hit the wand causing it to snap.  A black and purple butterfly began to fly out and mini quickly caught it.  She quickly released it bouncing on her heels in pure joy as a wide smile grew onto her face.
“Told ya I coul’ do it!”
“Yes you did, good job Pix.”
Chat Noir, who they hadn’t noticed disappeared, came back with the bullet and handed it to the small girl.  She threw the bullet into the air jumping up as well and yelled out,
“Miraculous Ladybug!”
Millions of Ladybugs flew through the air repairing damages and Turing people back to normal ending with Ladybug herself.  Ladybug looked around confusedly and saw Chat on her right and Red Hood on her left.  Memories of the past hour flashed through her mind and she promptly hid her face in her hands and a deep blush bloomed across her face.
“This is a disaster, a complete disaster.”
“I don’t know Bug, was it?”
Jason asked with a crap eating grin.
“Yes.”
Came her mumbled response.  Jason laughed and ruffled her hair, Marinette was too miserable to care.
“We should go make sure golden boy isn’t panicking too much, don’t ya think?”
Marinette sighed tiredly and nodded, I guess so.
“Sorry Chat, I promise I’ll explain later.  Bug out.”
And as quickly as she could she swung away with Red Hood laughing and not too far behind.
“B is going to hate that he missed this.”
He called through the air causing a loud groan to escape her lips.
“Don’t show him!”
“Too late Pix, already sent them all to the group chat.”
“I hate you.”
“Love you to Babybug.”
Marinette groaned again and Jason laughed all the way to where they found Dick and Zatanna talking in an alleyway.

~~~~~~~~~~
Marinette really didn’t know what to do.
On one hand she severed any and all ties to not just the Red Room, but to the League of Assassins and her grandfather. On the other hand, her biological brother doesn’t want anything to do with her, her father has had no contact with her, while being with her brother, and her other brothers didn’t care enough to help her. Maybe they know her past, but even then, she knew they were there, and they just stayed there and watched.
She wasn’t originally planning on taking the plane she booked, but maybe it was wrong to come back. She hoped her brother could help her transition out of her past but the way he looked at her.
When he told her he thought she was dead, that he didn’t want to ‘end up’ like her. His face said more than his words. His eyes darkened, resolution clear. And his face at a glance was pleasant, but just underneath he was clenching his jaw, burrowing his brow, while trying to relax his features. Telling her that being like her that she is, nothing, that meeting was a mistake. That hurt her so she left, not looking back. When he found her after the attack, he almost looked like he cared, but she can’t forget his eyes, so she’s leaving Gotham.
Which brings her back to the airport. She had gotten a plane ticket for any destination that was the next flight out that had an opening. But first she needed to lose this tracker, she already had to deal with being tracked her entire life she didn’t need to continue being monitored. She noticed it in one of the pockets of her vest, on the way to her hotel to get her bag.
So, while waiting for her flight to be called, she went for coffee. While in line, she slipped the tracker from her pocket, kneeled down to tie her shoe, and tacked it on the nearest suitcase (that wasn't hers). Got her coffee then got on her plane
As luck would have it, she was going back to Paris. So, she started over.
She had a contact that set her up with a new identity, Amira Morningstar, the irony was not lost on her.
After a week, she decided to apply to university. Forging report cards wasn't that hard, given they were all homeschooled.
After a month, she needed to get out. She had some custom handguns that shot rubber bullets. However, she prefers her escrima sticks, that also happen to pack 50,000 volts. She added a mask that covered the bottom half of her face and red contacts.
That was how Black Widow became Paris' resident vigilante. Adrien Agreste vouched for her, saying she's the reason for Hawkmoth's downfall. That alone granted her their unwavering trust.
A few days after going out as Black Widow, she heard a soft thump on her balcony. There she found a little kitten, as an owl dove for it.
She opened the sliding door, shot out her arms, to protect the little kitten. Her arms got cut up by the owl’s talons, but she didn't care.
"Your all alone huh?" She took the kitten in, and immediately looked up what she could feed the kitten until the morning. She found a recipe that she had all the ingredients on hand, made it, and fed the kitten using a syringe for oral medicines.
Only after the kitten fell asleep did she treat the gouges on her arms.
In the morning she fed both her and the kitten then went to the vet. Where she got quite the surprise.
Turns out it wasn't a kitten but a newborn European Lynx cub.
So, she did the logical thing and went to the zoo. Where she got help from the big cat handler on how to raise the little guy, turns out its a boy. So, she called him Небо (pronounced Nebo), because it means sky in Russian, seeing as he fell from the sky.
The handlers at the zoo fell in love with him and looked forward to when they would visit, either for pleasure or a check up.
She soon found a passion for fashion design, and soon her designs were being sought after.
Once Jagged Stone saw her work and found out about her "Rock'n" furry friend, he officially named her his personal stylist.
Her commissions were so sought after it attracted the attention of one Audrey Bourgeoise. Who offered her an internship under her. Which she would be crazy to refuse, so she and Hебо got packed, and went to New York.
Was it a bit difficult to find a place that allowed not just pets, but a six-month-old Lynx cub, absurdly hard. Did she eventually find one, yes, on the outskirts of Metropolis, meaning she has to commute, but that’s not too bad. Seeing as she was fortunate enough that the zoo in Paris called the one in Metropolis and explained the situation. She was going to go the next weekend so that they can meet in person and not just over video.
Yes, she usually rode the subway for work, but because of Небо she got a small compact car, to not have to hassle for check ups. Yes, it was normal to see her walking him all over Paris, but Metropolis is different. When they got there, she placed him in his harness, attached his leash and he jumped into her arms. Luckily, he was still small, and she could still do so.
They walked up to the front gate, and the girl luckily seemed to know who they were. “You must be Amira and Небо?!” She smiled brightly.
“That’s us.” Amira smiled as she responded.
“Here are your badges, make sure to always have them, and bring them back.” She put the lanyard around her neck and clipped the badge to Небо’s harness. “A handler is on their way to show you around.”
“Thank you.” Shortly afterwards like the girl said a handler came and gave them a tour of the facility and then they went to the big cat’s area.
Just like in Paris, they all quickly fell in love with the lynx cub. After the check up they decided to walk around the zoo, as it was a slow day.
She was letting Небоclimb a tree off leash, away from and exhibits, when someone noticed the leash in her hands and the badge on her neck.
“Hey!” He spoke and it was so bright and bubbly that she turned towards him.
“Hello.” She responded.
“Are you a caretaker?” He asked.
“Of one very mischievous cat.” She grinned. “Небо брифинг (pronounced brifing) [briefing].” He climbed down and sat on her left side. She crouched down and reattached his lead. “This is Небо, my European Lynx Cub.” She introduced.
That got the two of them talking. And when he found out this was her first time in the Metropolis Zoo, he of course had to give them a tour. Then she had to take a call, unfortunately, someone messed up several gowns for the next show case and she was the closest designer on call.
“I’m so sorry.” She walked back over. “But I have to go. See you around?!” She smiled, for the first time in maybe forever, she genuinely smiled. They were halfway home when she realized not only did, she not get his number, she also never got his name. Oh well it can’t be helped now.
---
“Sorry I’m late, Kent, there was an unforeseen delay.” A rogue decided that it was a good idea to take hostage of W.E. yet again, and he happened to be the first on the scene but had to wait for one of his siblings.
“No worries, Damian. I didn’t even realize you were late.” Jon answered him.
“And why would that be am never anything but!?!”
“I met someone with a pet lynx cub. You just missed her actually. She left maybe ten minutes ago.”
“That is a shame, I missed the cub.” Damian informed. “You didn’t happen to get her number so I can see the lynx, did you?”
The half Kryptonian’s face fell. “Nope, I didn’t even get her name.” He informed.
That was when a caretaker passed by them. “You’re talking about little Небо, right?”
“Yes.” Jon instantly shot up.
“Amira has to bring him back in six weeks for grooming and some vaccines.”
“Thank you so much.” Jon waved as the caretaker walked off.
“Why is she bringing in the lynx?”
“Well, the lynx cub is her pet.” He answered with a shrug. “You two would get along, I think.”
“That depends on how well she is treating that Lynx cub.” He grumbled.
summary: tim shot him a funny look. “tell luka about our nightly activities, obviously.”
ao3 | wattpad | masterlist | prompts | series masterlist
first - previous - next
“We should tell him,” Tim stated as soon as the family backed away from the door.
Bruce - still on a high because Luka liked them! - said, distractedly, “Tell him what?”
Tim shot him a funny look. “Tell Luka about our nightly activities, obviously.”
That caught Bruce’s attention. “What? No!”
“Why?” This time it was Dick who spoke.
Bruce faltered for an answer. “Because…”
Shooting him a pointed look, Dick asked again, “Why?”
“Because he just came. It’s going to freak him out!” Bruce managed to say.
“Freak him out?” Dick quoted. “That sounds wrong when you say it. Like really-”
Jason shot Dick a pointed look and Dick paused. “Oh, right. So? He didn’t run away when we went all crazy on him or his friend?”
“You mean crazier than normal.” Jason said with a grin. Damian snorted.
Dick glared at him. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Of course, Dickie.” Jason said.
Continuing, Dick glared at him and said to Bruce. “And even if we did hide it from him and told him, after three months, don’t you think he’s going to be mad at us for not telling him?”
Any retort Bruce had was smothered when he heard that because, well, it was true. Luka would be pissed if they kept it a secret from him.
And it seemed like all of his children knew that because they all shot him triumphant smiles.
◇─◇──◇─◇
At first, Marinette didn’t understand what was going on. What being Luka’s family suddenly doing things that only a select few of superheroes could do - specifically, Batman’s team.
It all started the next day when Marinette and Luka walked down the stairs with Tim spewing an impressive amount of information about the superheroes.
So much that it was actually suspicious because really, superheroes didn’t go around telling people this information. And Marinette knew that being one and everything.
“-and he totally kicked his ass. Red Robin just pushed him off the roof just like that.” Tim snapped his fingers to emphasize his point.
Luka listened attentively, apparently not realizing that was too much information.
There were two options, Marinette decided, one: that the Waynes were villains or at least something like it , or two: they were the Batfamily.
And honestly, Marinette hoped it was the second one because she was likely to go on a murderous rampage if they were villains.
◇─◇──◇─◇
Dick shot Tim a glare when he walked down with Luka and Marinette raving about himself.
Tim just shot him a smug smirk.
Upping his game, Dick launched himself over the counter into an acrobatic move that only Nightwing could have done.
Tim was still talking but he soon stopped with a scowl when he realized his audience weren’t paying attention to him.
Luka and Marinette were both gaping at him, though the latter had an odd expression on her face.
“How did you-” Luka seemed at a loss for words. “How did you do that?”
Dick gave Tim a smug smile as he bit into an apple, casually. “I was brought up in a circus. I learnt some stuff over the years.”
Marinette shot him a narrowed glare - seriously, what was up with her? “And does anyone else know that?”
“Nope,” Dick said cheerfully, unknowingly sealing Marinette’s suspicions.
As he walked out of the door, Dick muttered to Tim, “You owe me 20.”
Tim shot him the stink-eye.
◇─◇──◇─◇
Over the next few days, Marinette made a careful note of everything in Luka’s family.
When Dick said he was the only one to do that move, one thing became clear - the Waynes were the Batfamily.
Marinette wasn’t sure how she didn’t notice it before because once she put enough thought into it, it was kind of obvious.
Bruce was Batman, Dick was Nightwing, Jason was Red Hood, Tim was Red Robin (why was he glorifying himself so much then?) and Damian was Robin.
Once she was aware of what she was looking for, Marinette realized that, well, they weren’t trying to hide it.
Luka was oblivious to it, of course, he didn’t know. As far as he knew, they just had some amazing skills that varied from person to person.
But to Marinette it was very obvious.
And it became clear.
So, just to mess with them, she decided to suggest a design for Tim’s wardrobe.
As she walked down to breakfast that morning, Marinette smirked at Tim.
“So,” she said sweetly and Luka shot her a look because he knew what that meant. After all, she had used the same look on Lila before. “I had an idea.”
Tim looked up from his bickering with Jason about some bet about showing off. “Really?” he asked excitedly. “What?”
“I was thinking about doing something related to Red Robin.”
The reactions were so perfectly in sync, that Marinette almost thought they practiced it.
Tim choked on his cup of coffee, spilling some of it on Jason.
Jason, who was scrolling through his phone, dropped it and cursed loudly.
Dick who was pouring some milk into his cereal, froze and the milk just continued coming through, long after the bowl was full.
Damian threw his knives into a wall. Poor wall.
Bruce, who was reading the newspaper, tore it in surprise.
Alfred merely shot her a knowing look and Luka…poor Luka looked so confused.
Recovering, Tim hastily said, “Okay!” far too perkily. “What did you have in mind?”
His attempt at casualness failed miserably when everyone else was still trying to recover.
Seeing everyone else’s reactions sealed it for Marinette. “I figured you out.” Blunt and straight to the point.
Luka stared at her. “Figured out what?”
Before she could answer, Dick, still with the bowl of overflowing milk, said, “But you’re not supposed to know! It was only for Luka - we thought he’d figure it out!”
“Figure what out?” Luka’s voice had a hint of exasperation in it.
Bruce folded his paper decisively. “That we’re vigilantes.”
◇─◇──◇─◇
When Luka met his extended family, he genuinely did not expect this.
This being the fact that they were the vigilantes of Gotham.
“I’m sorry what?” he asked weakly.
His father - Luka still wasn’t used to saying that - repeated himself. “We are the vigilantes of Gotham.”
“And you knew?” He directed this question at Marinette.
Marinette shot him a sheepish look, her eyes pleading with him to not be mad - as if he would be, he was just curious. “I had suspicions. I figured it out yesterday.”
And as Luka ran through the last few days, it became clear- how had he not seen that before?
Especially with all the hysterical research he had done when he figured out who his father was.
Jason’s affinity with guns, Damian’s with knives, Tim’s with computers and…well, sticks and Dick’s with acrobatics. Bruce had no outward sign, but he should have figured the others out!
“Of course,” Luka said distractedly. “How did I not figure it out before?”
But why would they be so obvious about it? Anyone - except for Marinette, of course, she was Ladybug, she definitely had it figured out - from Gotham could have understood.
“But why were you so…” Luka struggled for the right word without seeming too rude.
“Obvious about it?” Bruce asked with a faint smile. “We wanted to tell you. But we weren’t sure how to. So-”
“We decided to let you figure it out on your own.” Jason finished. And then he looked at Marinette. “But how did you find out?”
Marinette shifted uncomfortably and Luka hid a smile. He knew the answer.
But he wasn’t going to out her. She could tell them if she wanted to.
Eventually, when her eyes flicked from one person to another, she said, “Because I’m one too?”
It sounded more like a question than a statement.
“How are you-” Damian asked confusedly, when Luka answered him.
“She’s Ladybug - superhero of Paris.”
Now it was their turn to be surprised.
“How did you know that?” asked Marinette.
Really, she needed to improve on her excuses - they were extremely see-through.
“You’re not as sneaky as you think, Marinette.”
Luka grinned smugly as the room burst out into shouts.
Ha! Take that.
Meeting For The First Time
Marinette felt nauseous as she boarded the plane for Gotham.  The whole War against Hawkmoth had ended about a month ago.  And in that month Gabriel Agreste denied Lila helping him “willingly”—which was bull as Lila had been so happy to take the akumas that flew towards her as shown in the camera footage— so she was declared innocent and cleared of any charges.  Lila had made a whole sob story about how Ladybug “betrayed“ and “accused“ her.  Of course her school bought it and Alya posted it on her blog.  “Ladybug, a liar and a backstabber.  Accused best friend of working with Paris terrorist Hawkmoth.”  Not to mention that her lies about her had gotten worse, and so did the bullying.
Marinette suppressed all of her emotions.  Not because she wanted to, but after 4 years of having to do it to not attract an Akuma, it was just habit.  Every day blurred into each other, and it just felt like she wasn’t even in her own body half the time.  And when her class decided to “teach her a lesson”, dissociation was her best friend.  Adrien, who had been her crush, who she thought was her friend, left her.  And after Ladybug took his miraculous, he was cruel and ruthless.
Tom and Sabine, to put it lightly, were pissed.  How dare the school do nothing while their daughter was suffering.  How dare they report falsehoods about their sweet girl.  They weren’t able to have kids, so being able to adopt the little girl was a miracle.  They knew the girl they raised, they knew her struggles, and though she thought she was sneaky, Sabine knew she was Ladybug.  She worked so hard, and all she got for her efforts was hurt.  Well no more, this was going to change now, even if it hurt her.  After discussing it with Tom they agreed on what needed to happen and called the number on the birth certificate.
________
Marinette stepped off the plane, the restless feeling she felt throughout the flight never leaving.  She was adopted, she was going to meet her bio dad.  She was going to live with him because Paris was too toxic for her now.  Marinette wrung her hands together nervously as she looked around.  She spotted an older gentleman holding a sign with her name and walked towards him trying to ground herself with the weight of her backpack on her back and shoulders.
“Hello Miss Dupain-Cheng, it is very nice to meet you.  I’m Alfred Pennyworth.”
“Hello M. Pennyworth.  It’s nice to meet you too.”
She refused to make eye contact.  She didn’t want to see if he was disappointed.
“Shall we go grab the rest of your baggage miss?”
She simply nodded.  The less words the better, no one could use them against her if she didn’t use them often.  They quietly grabbed her things before heading to a limo where he helped her put her things in the trunk and helped her through the door.  The car ride was silent, though he did ask a few yes or no questions where she either shook her head or nodded.  She didn’t know how as he never turned back to look, but he seemed to know her answers.  The car pulled to a stop in front of a grand entrance to a large beautiful manor.  In any other circumstance she would be in awe of it and want to learn more about it, but currently she just felt intimidated and horrified.  The door opened and a hand was held out.  Very hesitantly she took the hand and stepped out of the car, though she looked at the ground.  She could feel the eyes on her, there were many people there, but she didn’t want to look.
“Hello Marinette,”
A deep gentle voice began.  The voice got closer and the footsteps got louder till eventually someone was in front of her.  They crouched down and she felt a hand placed on her shoulder.  Marinette flinched back at the touch, and the hand quickly left.
“Sorry.  Welcome to Wayne manor.  You’ll be staying here till your parents give the ok to return to Paris.  Would you like me to show you where your room is?”
She quietly nodded again and slowly looked up to see the same blue eyes that she had looking at her gently.  Dark black hair lined the man’s handsome face and she could see some of the same features on the man’s face that she had.  This was her father.  Maybe everything would be ok.  Maybe things will be different.  Maybe she would finally heal.
Fantasy/Twin AU
Sorry for being late and not posting for a bit. Was a bit burnt out and had writer block. I will go back to write the other days soon though. Also, sorry, I suck at writing wing aus, this is my first time doing it.
Earth J-236, an earth full of mystical life.  An earth where everyone is born with wings.  Your wings represented who you are; well not really, but that’s what people believed.  If your wings were bright and colorful then you were obviously an amazing person, but if your wings were darker or had little color, then you have great evil in your soul.  Marinette was born seconds after her twin, Damian.  It takes a few years before your wings fully grow in, usually to about 6.  But with the accelerated growth serums used in their artificial wombs, it took them till they were three for their feathers to sprout.  Damian’s were black like their father’s with subtle hints of red like their mothers.  Marinette’s were pure black, devoid of any color, and her mother was so proud of that.  She was the League’s charm, for it’s believed that anyone with pure black wings was pure evil.  Her only purpose being to protect her brother, nothing else was more important than her brother’s safety.  She would die for him, because if he died she might as well have died as well as her only purpose for living would be gone.
Damian glared at his sister, his wings ruffling in annoyance.  She was hovering close to him again, and she never said anything to him ever unless she was completely sure they were alone.  He did not believe that his sister was or could ever be, “pure evil” just because of her wings.  In fact, her mannerisms are the exact opposite of what people believed.  She, in her own ways, is caring, sweet, and protective.  He had seen, and helped, her nurse a baby bird that had fallen from its nest back to health.  She would often place little things around the base for only him to find such as some extra baklava, a throwing knife, a drawing of someone, beads, or other random objects.  Grandfather had always been extra hard on her, making sure she wouldn’t betray them, she wouldn’t become “evil enough to lose herself”.  Sometimes she would sneak into his room at night, and it tore him apart to see silent tears run down his little sister's face as small black raven feathers fell onto the floor from her days worth of training.  He had been learning how to fly, her wings had been clipped every two or three months so she could not leave the base.  She had learned long ago to control her facial and wing expressions, but he could always see the droop in them and the sad shine in her eyes as she stood on the ground while he was in the air.
________
Marinette looked up and watched as the fiery Phoenix flew through the air setting Nada Parabat aflame.  She didn’t feel much as she watched her grandfather get blown up.  She only felt great anxiety and fear as she could not find her brother.  She loved her brother, and if her job was to cause chaos, she would make sure she could prevent it from hurting him.  Grandfather had told her about how cursed she was, it’s why they had to be extra tough on her, and she understood that.  They couldn’t have her hurting anyone they needed, only the people they wanted gone.  She was angry at grandfather yesterday for taking some of her feathers for failing a task, this must have been her fault.  She didn’t want to hurt her brother, her wings had only proven nothing but destruction.  She had to leave now, then she could go where no one else was, and she wouldn’t have to hurt anyone else.  So like a coward, like the disgrace she was, she ran.  She kept her wings tight against her back making sure that no one could grab them as she ran.  An arrow hit one of them, but she didn’t have time to think about the burning pain as she ran and ran and ran farther and farther and farther away.  Tears ran down her cheeks as she silently prayed that her brother would be okay.
She didn’t know how long she ran, but she knew it must have been a really long time as she had just collapsed from exhaustion in the woods.  She looked back at her wings and slowly and carefully spread them out and hissed in pain from where the arrow had pierced her left wing.  Drops of red slowly dripped down her feathers and dropped on the ground.  She quickly closed them and made sure they were as small and put away as possible.  She looked up at the trees made of brass with different colored jade leaves.  Pearl-like apples growing on a few.  She watched a baby griffon follow it’s mother in the distance, turtle ducks waddling to a pond somewhere nearby, deer nibbling on plants, she could hear the rustling of leaves and branches from unseen creatures and everything was getting more blurry and dark.  She was cold, it felt very cold.  She slowly unwound her wings from around herself and closed them tightly around her, but that didn’t stop the chill that went deep down to her bones.  She was a failure, a mistake, she would only cause harm.  Here she wouldn’t be able to do that, and if she died here, then no one would be hurt by her again, and wasn’t that such a nice thought.
________
Tom and Sabine had finally been able to hire some trusted employees and explore places in Tibet.  They had made lots of money over the years with their successful bakery, and they thought now was a better time than ever to go on a real honeymoon as they hadn’t been able to afford it before when the bakery had first started.  It was during one of these forest explorations when they saw a trail of little drops of blood and felt they needed to follow it.  What they discovered broke their hearts.  There lying on the cold forest floor was what appeared to be a child hugging their very black wings around them.  They knew of the rumors and myths of black winged people, but they did not care.  They believed that their wings were not what made them evil, but rather situations put into their lives.  Sabine quickly checked for a pulse, and though it was slow she sighed in relief when she felt it.  She quickly handed the small unconscious girl to Tom and they both quickly went to the nearest hospital.  How could someone leave such a small child all alone to die like that?  It looked as if she had been injured if the dried blood on the small fragile wings said anything.  And worst of all, upon closer examination, they had been clipped, recently too.
As soon as they arrived they carried the small girl to the front and demanded that they take her in.  They waited until the doctors were done and gave them permission to visit claiming to be the girl’s adopted parents.  It wasn’t technically a lie, they would be soon even if Sabine had to force it to happen.
When Marinette woke up she knew something was off.  She was under a blanket, she’s never been given a blanket before.  The sent of bleach and chemicals were everywhere and it hurt her nose.  There was a beeping noise next to her that was giving her a headache.  She didn’t know where she was, and that was bad.  She opened her eyes a small fraction so nobody could see she was awake and looked around as much as she could.  The entire room was white and there were bright lights.  There were two strange people waiting in chairs near where she was laying.  She wondered if they were the ones who brought her here.  Slowly she opened them up all the way and silently sat up.  It’s best to make no noise, then she wouldn’t disturb anyone.
“Oh sweety, I’m so glad you’re awake.”
The woman said in a cheery and relieved manner, but she just continued to watch and study them silently.  Her wings felt stiff against her back, though she made sure they didn’t move or give anything away.
“How are you feeling dear?”
Silence greeted them, and her face remained as impassive as ever.  They wanted something, why else would they save a freak like her?  What were they aiming for here?
“Did your parents hurt you?  If so, we can take you away from them.”
Marinette’s eyes widened only a fraction.  These were randoms, innocents if you will.  They obviously had no idea who she was, and they seemed unafraid of her and her wings.  Did they not know how dangerous she was, didn’t they know that black wings meant she was cursed?  The man and the woman looked at eachother and spread their wings.  Marinette was shocked, but she wouldn’t show it.
The large man had light brown eagle wings while the small woman had white and black woodpecker wings.  She wanted to reach out and touch the feathers, but then something bad would happen to them, so she held her hands together.
“We don’t care what your wing color is.  Your wings don’t define who you are, it’s what you do with your life that does.  Can we please help you?”
The woman said sincerely as she gripped the man’s hand in hers.  She felt a pull to them, something telling her to accept.  She didn’t want to hurt them though.  But maybe she could protect them?  Maybe she could find a way around her curse and make sure they don’t get hurt?  Slowly she nodded and they both looked so happy when she did.  She hoped that she wouldn’t hurt them, they didn’t deserve to be cursed.  Maybe if she didn’t touch them things would be ok.  If she didn’t let them touch her then it wouldn’t spread.  She could do this!
________
Apparently she couldn’t do it because this is a very affectionate family, and the first thing that happened before they let her sleep on their —super fluffy, pure Heaven— bed was give her a hug.  She had made sure that her wings were tucked under her clothes and tight against her back the entire time though.  So they didn’t touch her wings, so maybe that meant they wouldn’t be cursed.
It was strange, because the next morning they went to a courthouse, and she was adopted.  She hadn’t said anything throughout the entire event, she just watched and observed what people did.  They stayed in Tibet for another few days before they flew to Paris, France.  This was supposed to be her new home.  The city of light and love.  Maybe here, it would stop her curse.  It was so bright that it had to block out her darkness.  She still always carried one of her knives with her, she felt naked without one.  Tom and Sabine seemed to understand somehow, and said that it was her business and that was enough for them till she was ready to talk about it.  It was strange not to be interrogated for now wanting to tell someone something.
Marinette had lived with the Dupain-Chengs for about a year now.  It was strange really, they were honest business people and their joy was always sincere.  They didn’t question much of what she did even though it was probably weird to them.  They didn’t punish her for messing up like the league did, and they never went near her wings without permission.  They never plucked her feathers, and they would often ask if they could preen her wings.  She would refuse every time, but she would often wonder what it would be like to have someone else touch them.  Think of what it would be like if she weren’t cursed.  When it was time for school she would always wrap them around herself then tape them so no one would see or be able to touch them.  Things were finally going well, she couldn’t risk it now!
There was a blonde brat that liked to act like she was above her, and because her wings were always hidden with no explanation she made sure everyone knew that she was “wingless”.  She didn’t care though, being wingless was better than being evil winged.  She never really said anything in class or to other students, she never gave much reaction keeping her stoic face up.  The brat left her alone soon after for being a, “ridiculous!  Utterly ridiculous freak.”  And nobody was the wiser.
Being Lady Chaos was….the best thing that ever happened to her if she was being honest.  Even with pure black wings, people still thought she was a hero.  She never flew, she was scared she’d fall and die.  She was never allowed to fly before, and even if she technically can do so now, it’s not worth the risk.  Her partner though, Mr. Bug has gold, red, and black wings.  He can fly through the air with ease she wished she desperately had.  Sometimes after patrol she would go to the very top of the Eiffel Tower and just stretch her wings out as far out as she could.  She would close her eyes as the wind blew past her and ruffled her feathers and pretend that she was soaring through the air.
________
Year three of living with Tom and Sabine she was comfortable talking to them more, and with Plagg there to control her chaos she finally let them touch her wings.  It was strange really, she never took care of her wings, never cared enough to.  When she first felt the hands on her feathers she had to will herself not to draw them back for fear of them plucking or ripped out.  But Sabine’s hands were so gentle and smooth that they seemed to move on their own and go closer to her touch.  Sabine would smile and hum as she gently preened the dark raven feathers that were soft and smooth.  Maybe she could finally tell the class that she wasn’t wingless soon, and maybe they would be okay with it.
No, they would not as she learned from listening to her classmates talk to the new student, Lila Rossi.  To them Lady Chaos was the only good black winged person because she was chasing after Mr. Bug to earn his affections.  Lady Chaos was obviously evil before she met Mr. Bug and she would always be evil no matter what she did.  Marinette felt nauseous that she ever thought about telling them the truth.  She had never felt more betrayed than she felt now, because she had given them her trust, and they broke it without even knowing it.  After that day, she made extra sure that her wings were hidden and wore a bit thicker clothing just in case.  Tom and Sabine are a little worried about it, but she calmed them pretty quickly.  She was fine, it wasn’t like they were all great friends to begin with.  That’s probably why everyone sides with Lila and decides that she’s a terrible person.
She had tried leaving her past behind, pretending that she didn’t hurt and kill people.  Pretend that she wasn’t a weapon.  She tried to push it far away, but it wasn’t enough.  It was never enough.  She had abandoned her brother.  She betrayed the league.  She did unspeakable things to please someone who would never care about her, just her use.  The city of lights seems duller than usual, it was probably her fault Hawkmoth came to be in the first place, afterall she was cursed to bring ruin everywhere she went.
________
Lila and Chloe thought it would be a great idea to bring everybody to the Crime Capital of the World for their senior trip.  Probably to watch people flounder and worry when things go wrong, which they definitely would.  She had stopped Hawkmoth a month before the trip, but Mr. Bug took all the credit for it. The arrogant self centered bas*.  Adrien kept giving her side glances that always made her feel uncomfortable and slightly disgusted.  During school he would try to touch her with every chance he’d get.  He almost discovered her wings at one point.  She couldn’t do anything about it before because of the stupid your-rich-so-do-whatever-the-heck-you-want treatment.  Now that Adrien’s family fortune is gone, and people don’t trust him because of what his dad did, so he has to be more careful.  He now kept some distance, which she was extremely grateful for.
She would have broken his hand, she had imagined it plus other things more than once.  But then Tom and Sabine would get in trouble by Gabriel for her actions.  They didn’t deserve that, they had been nothing but good to her since they found her abandoned in that forest.
She would be fine though, as long as Lila had a grip on his arm and she was in the back, away from him.  She listened to their tour guide, Richard Grayson, talk about the history and importance of WE.  The architecture was brilliant really, and you couldn’t blame her for having to draw and sketch it.  She often thought of Damian when she sketched.  She used to leave drawings for him around the base, little things that expressed her adoration for him without getting too close.  She wondered if he was still with the league, had he escaped, did he die?  She hoped that wasn’t the case, she hoped that he would be alive and well.  Bright orange and white wings nearly slapped her in the face if she hadn’t stopped right before the movement had occurred.
“Oh my gosh!  I’m so sorry Marinette!  Sometimes my wings just spasm out of control like that!  I didn’t hurt you did I?”
Marinette just silently rolled her eyes and took a few steps backward and watched the class glare at her waiting for her to comfort the liar.  She would never lower herself to do that.  She was still an Al Ghul afterall, even if she did leave it behind when she fled.  She was thankful when lunch came, she waited far away from the line and watched silently from a dark corner to make sure no one would hurt her.  Then she felt it, a hand touching her back feeling for something.  She quickly and instinctively grabbed the arm and twisted it behind them pinning it behind their back at a painful angle.
“Ukhti, let go.”
Marinette knew that voice.  She remembered that name and she could feel her heart stop.  The lunchroom was silent as they watched the small bluenette silently and quickly release the “Ice Prince”. Everyone watched with bated breaths to see what would happen next.  The boy’s wings were ruffled in agitation and fear.
“Where are they?”
He demanded.  Marinette knew what he was talking about, she simply wrapped her arms around herself and turned her head away definitely.
“Why are you hiding them, Malak?  Please.”
Marinette could feel her wings moving in defiance to what her brain was saying.  They wanted to be shown, they wanted to be touched by her brother again.  She looked down and slowly uncrossed her arms from her body.  Damian gently took her hands in his and looked directly into her eyes.
“Everything will be ok, Taw'ami.”
She slowly nodded and with shaky fingers reached under her hoodie and began to slowly unwrap the tape that kept her wings confined.  When all the tape was in her hands she hesitantly removed her hoodie and let her wings unfold from around herself and into the open.  She had made shirts that let her wings slip through slits in the back that were tailored to her wings specifically and were most comfortable.  Damian marveled at how big her raven wings had grown and how shiny they were.  He reached out a hand slowly and gently ran his fingers down the inky black that was her wings.
Shouts of fear and accusations were thrown at her, mostly from her class.  She didn’t listen though, she just observed.  The tour guide was coming over now, probably to kick her out.  He had such lovely wings though,  they were a deep navy blue that looked similar to black with dark red and light blue running through them.  They looked so well kept and soft.
“Damian, what’s happening?  Who is this?”
“Grayson, meet my twin sister, Marinette.”
“You have a twin?!”
Richard exclaimed loudly, drawing even more attention.  The insults and jeers stopped after that.  She looked over at the class and smirked when she saw their shock and confusion.
“Yes, keep up.”
Damian said brusquely.  They must know each other well then.
“Come, we must take her away from these imbeciles and take her to father.”
Damian grabbed her wrist and tugged, her quickly falling into line like she used to when he did this.
“Now tell me Ukhti, have you been taking care of yourself?”
She nodded as they came to an elevator and walked into it with Richard right behind them.  Marinette felt her feathers fluff up nervously.  She wasn’t in control of them right now, and she wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not. Damian ran a hand gently down her right wing trying to smooth it down.
“Things will be fine Marinette.  Just watch, father will be glad to meet you.”
She looked him in the eyes and squeezed her hands together.
“No, I have not told him about you.  Things will be fine though.”
He seemed to understand her weird way of communicating, she still didn’t understand how he did.  Richard cleared his throat and both turned to look at him.
“Sorry to interrupt, but um…I’m Dick, I’m Damian’s, and yours I guess, oldest brother.  It’s nice to meet you.”
He spread his wings in a welcoming way that meant and showed safety and peace. Her wings involuntarily rose up as well to reciprocate his greeting.  When the door to the elevator opened again she quickly forced her wings to hide on her back trying desperately to keep them from sight.  Damian didn’t seem to like it, but he just grabbed her wrist and dragged her to a large office room.  The plaque on the door read “CEO Bruce Wayne”.  Their father was Bruce Wayne?!  She couldn’t go in there, she couldn’t curse him and ruin his life.  No, she had already messed up at the league, and she was just barely not messing up with Tom and Sabine, she would definitely ruin Bruce Wayne’s life, and she would not allow that to happen.  She tugged at his grip desperately trying to get away.
“Marinette, stop.  Your wings are not cursed, that was a lie.”
Marinette shook her head and kept trying to escape the iron-like grip.
“Do you not trust me anymore?”
She froze at that and quickly shook her head.  Of course she trusted him, it was her that shouldn’t be trusted.
“Good, because we’re going in now.”
And that was that, because the door was now open and she was being dragged into the office room where their father and another boy with large bags under his eyes stared at them.  Damian puffed up his chest and feathers letting his strong, big, and brilliant wings rise into the air.
“Father, this is your daughter, my twin, Marinette Erebus Al Ghul-Wayne.”
They both stared at her in shock and Marinette slowly and cautiously raised her despicable black wings into the air.  Both stared at them in awe before looking back at her, but she didn’t meet their eyes.  She didn’t want to see the disgust and hatred in their eyes.
After a few moments she looked up and saw their wings greeting hers like Dick’s had.  Their father’s wings were a mix of black and dark grey alternating the color in each row of feathers.  The other boy’s were black at the top and slowly turned to red at the bottom.  But they were welcoming her openly, so that must mean something!  Well, it was time to get to know her father, she guessed.
The “Talk”
Continuation of Day 5
Marinette stared blankly at the board as Lila and Alya explained the class trip.  She honestly didn’t know if her heart had stopped beating or was beating too fast.  They were going to Gotham, and not just anywhere, they would be touring WE and other places owned by her da Bruce.  Maybe she would be lucky and her host, more like adopted at this point, family wouldn’t let her go!  She wouldn’t have to run the risk of seeing him, but then again it was probably him that had accepted the application, which meant he knew she should be there.  And if she wasn’t there then he would come to Paris, but that would be bad if he got Akumatized.  She wasn’t strong enough to fight her dad as a supervillain.
She sighed and rested her head against the cool wooden desk.  She was tired with all of the late night Akumas, homework, commissions, and tracking Hawkmoth.  She hadn’t contacted anyone in her family in a while, and when she said a while she meant about two years.  She used to talk to Dick and Dad often, but then communication went silent.  She thought it was for a short silent mission and that they would get back to her, but they never did.  Alfred and her talked on and off, she had last talked to him about a month ago.  Sure she missed her family, but they probably didn’t miss her.  She was replaceable afterall, that’s why Tim was adopted by Bruce last year.  Jason was replaceable to him because three or four months after his death there was a new Robin.  Then there was Damian who turned out to be Bruce’s “only” bio child.  She didn’t feel like going back, she’d have a breakdown, and she doesn’t want to have one.  She has to shove down everything, because if she showed any weakness, then the universe would bury her.
The bell rang and she was brought out of her mind.  She looked down at her desk and saw all of the papers needed to go on the trip.  She was honestly surprised Alya or Lila would give this to her.  They would probably find a way to get rid of her though, and she would honestly thank them for it.  She packed up and left for the bakery for lunch.  When she made it she greeted Sabine with a hug and felt that little spark when she hugged her back with a bright smile on her face.
“Hello darling, is everything going ok?  You look tired, do you want me to make you coffee?”
“Yes please.”
“Alright, but when you get home I’m going to make sure you fall asleep, ok?”
She relaxed against Sabine, Sabine’s hugs reminded her of Jason’s hugs.  They were so encompassing and warm and they made her feel safe.
“‘Mkay.”
“Good, now go sit down, lunch will be ready soon.”
Sabine gently pulled away and she quietly sat in one of the bar stools.  She was so happy to be with the Dupain-Cheng’s, they were so nice and real, and it made her happy.  Marinette sighed and brought out the papers and slid them towards Sabine.  She glanced at the papers and her eyes widened.
“Oh, the senior trip is to Gotham then?”
Marinette quietly nodded.
“Well, maybe it will be a good thing.  You should visit your family.”
Marinette didn’t want to, they obviously didn’t care enough to visit or think about her.  Well except Alfred, but he was always too busy making sure Bruce didn’t accidentally kill himself to visit.
“Do I have to go?”
She whispered, the void was creeping up on her again, but she pushed it back.
“I think it would be best if you do.  You need a chance to relax, you need to get out of Paris and let yourself go.  You’ve been so strong all of these years.  Besides, you should go visit Jason, I bet he’s missed you.”
Sabine said gently as she worked.  Marinette sucked in a sharp breath.  She hadn’t thought of visiting Jason’s grave, but now she wanted to.  She had so many things to tell him, and he always listened.  She could apologize to him for not being good enough, she hadn’t been able to do that last time with all the people around.  But in private, she could, and maybe he would forgive her.
________
The day of the trip arrived, and she was going to vomit.  Sadly Lila’s and Alya’s attempts to get rid of her didn’t work and she was in Gotham.  Her skin crawled with the memories that came back to her.  Every corner held something that triggered so many emotions, and she really didn’t want to remember any of it.  She had to stay guarded, she had to make sure her class wasn’t killed on the streets.  The first stop of the trip, Wayne Enterprise itself.
Marinette stayed in the back behind everyone.  They all kept sending her glares and whispering to each other, but she didn’t care.  She didn't even have to listen to the tour guide, she already knew everything about the building.  She watched as Mlle. Mendeleiev and Mlle. Bustier talked, well argued, about the class and their behavior.  Loud confident footsteps approached them and when Marinette looked up so did the ice.  Her brain felt clouded, blurred with grief, betrayal, and anger.  She could hear the gasp from her class, her fingers stung—when had she clenched it—?  She looked straight into deep blue eyes, the same ones she had inherited.
“Leave me the f* alone.”
Her tone was dark and cold, but she felt anything but.  Her heart was pounding in her chest so fast she could hear it reverberating in her ears.  Her breathing was harsh and her eyes pricked with nudged tears.  She couldn’t tell if she was shaking or not, or was the world just spinning?  Loud fast footsteps sounded an a voice called out,
“What’s going o-“
Why was the voice so familiar?  It was deep, but it sounded so recognizable.
“Pixie?”
Her head shot towards the voice.  It was so quiet and was she seeing things?  Was this some sort of nightmare?  It had to be, it certainly felt like one.  She was supposed to visit his grave today, maybe this is her subconscious playing some kind of joke on her.  Something wet was falling down her cheeks, was she crying?
“Jay-Jay?”
She whispered quietly, because there was no way this was real.  Strong arms scooped her up and she was being spun.  She quickly wrapped her arms around his neck, because if this was a dream she didn’t want to wake up.  Jay-Jay was back.
“Gotta tell the others you’re back.”
He whispered against her head.  That would be nice, but it was only a dream, she probably wouldn’t sleep long enough to see the others.  There would probably be an Akuma soon.
“‘Mkay.”
“Excellent form by the way, the punch was perfect.”
She could feel the pride in his words and something she hadn’t felt for a long time blossomed in her chest.
“Bas* deserved it.”
He took her away from her home and family, he stopped talking to her, he replaced both her and Jason.  If only she could punch Bruce in real life.
“He certainly did.”
Gentle hands ran through her hair and she melted into it.
“Marinette!  What on earth are you doing?!  How could you punch Bruce Wayne?!  Have you gone mad?!”
Alya shouted at the top of her lungs.
“We are so sorry Mr. Wayne.  Marinette has never done something like this.  We hope-“
Mlle. Bustier began.
He held up his hand as he stood up, a bruise already forming on his cheek.
“No, no.  It was my fault.  I’ll let you continue on your tour, though I would like to talk to her later, if that’s alright with you.”
“Certainly Mr. Wayne.  We apologize again.”
“I always knew Marinette liked going around, but did she really have to do it in public?”
Lila whispered.  She could feel the chill that entered the room upon Lila’s words and Alya’s snickers.  She felt the slow descent and felt her feet touch the ground, but there was still an arm around her shoulder.  She leaned into it, it felt so warm and real.
“How dare you speak of my sister that way?”
His voice was dark, and she shivered in fear, though the arm held her closer.  It was protecting her.
“Your what?  I’m sorry but Marinette is an only child.  It’s kind of pathetic that she had to pay you.”
The chill grew, and she desperately wished it would go away.  Is this the part of the nightmare where Daddy and Dick would fight again, then he would walk out the doors again.  It wasn’t a new dream, but that didn’t make it better.  Fast footfalls made their way towards them and she felt arms land on her shoulders.
“Hey Bean, hey, it’s okay.  Please open your eyes.”
Open her eyes?  They were open, but it’s dark.  When had she closed her eyes?  Steel blue looked at her, and she knew those eyes.  It was Tim.  Tim was here, he looked so much older.
“Tim-Tam?”
“Yea it’s me, Bean.  It’s been a while, why don’t we catch up away from everyone else?  You already know everything and more about this place anyways.”
“Only if Jay-Jay comes.”
“Of course.”
Tim glanced over at something and sighed.
“Can Bruce come too?”
Marinette flinched and followed Tim’s line of sight to see her dad watching them from a distance.  She really didn’t want to talk to him, but it was just a dream anyways.  It didn’t really matter, did it?
“It's fine.”
She said quietly.  The entire floor was silent as they all walked towards the elevator.  She would wake up any second now, and then she would actually go to Wayne Enterprise where she would be in the back and silently watch her classmates make fools of themselves as she heard facts she already knew about spouted off by a guide.
But her dream didn’t end when the doors closed, in fact she was pretty sure she felt more awake as all of what had just happened hit her with a wave of adrenaline.  She could feel the blood drain from her face and breathing felt harder every floor that passed them until they were at the top.  When the doors opened and she saw Dick and a smaller boy with black hair and green eyes she knew she was going to be sick.  Her breathing picked up and she ran out of the elevator, and not to Dick’s open arms, but to the trash can where she emptied out her breakfast.  Tears fell out of her eyes, they felt like acid against her burning cheeks.
There were people surrounding her, someone was talking but she couldn’t hear anything, there was a hand on her back and someone was holding her hair back.  Why hadn’t she woken up yet?  Why was she still here?  Shouldn’t she have woken up by now?
“-t’s ok Blueberry.  Hey, it’s ok.”
“N-no!  This isn’t real!  You left, Jay-Jay’s dead, dad shipped me off, dad replaced Jay-Jay and me.  This isn’t real, it can’t be real.”
The room was deathly quiet, but she could feel familiar string arms wrap her back into a hug with her back against a strong broad chest.
“We should go to the lounge area.”
Tim whispered and turned to leave.  She messed up didn’t she?  She always messed up.  Someone helped her into her feet, but they didn’t want to work.  Right before she fell someone caught her.  It was her Birdy.
“I’ve got you Blueberry.  Don’t worry, I’m not going to leave you, I promise.”
He said gently.  She leaned against him as he scooped her up and carried her to another room.
“You always say that, then you walk out the door.”
She mumbled, but he must have heard it as he stiffened slightly and let out a shaky breath.
“Not anymore.”
She didn’t respond to that and thought back to all the good times they had before everything changed so much.
The couch was soft and comfy, and she was squished between her two oldest brothers while Tim sat on Jason’s other side and the other boy, Damian, sat on Dick’s.  Bruce sat on a separate couch in front of all of them.  He was going to send her away again, wasn’t he?
“Marinette, it’s good to see you again.”
He said gently, in the same voice he always used when she was mad at him and he was trying to make it up to her.  She didn’t look at him though, just stared at her hands as she fiddled with her fingers.
“How is Jason alive if this isn’t a dream?”
She asked quietly.  There was a long pause before she was being pressed into Jason’s side.
“It was the pits Pixie.  The Lazarus Pits brought me back.”
“Oh.”
Because what were you supposed to say to that?
“Marinette, I didn’t, it was never my intention to make you feel abandoned.”
“Well about two years of radio silence will do that.  Especially with you adopting Tim two years after I’m gone, then you magically have a biological child, and apparently he’s your “only one”.”
“Well, maybe if you were better Father would have-“
“Damian!  You don’t say things li-“
“No.”
She interrupted Dick’s scolding as she glared at the ground.
“He’s right.  I wasn’t good enough, I’ve never been good enough.  I was never enough to go on patrols or get to be a hero like all of you, I wasn’t good enough for Jason to stay, I wasn’t good enough for Dad or you, Dick.  I could have been better…I could have been like Tim.  He was always-“
“Marinette.”
Her head shot up in surprise.  Tim had never spoken to her like that.  When did he get in front of her again?
“Marinette, you were the closest thing to a little sibling I had at the time, in fact you now are.  Mari, you were and are good enough.  Bruce didn’t abandon or replace you.  In fact, I think he owes you something.  Right B?”
Soft slow footfalls.  The sound of fabric sliding against itself as someone kneels in front of her.
“Marinette, sweetheart, my beautiful daughter.  I didn’t mean to-I didn’t know you felt like that.  I thought I was protecting you.  I was-I didn’t want-I couldn’t let…”
“You didn’t want me to end up like Jason?”
“I didn’t want you to be in danger.”
“What about the radio silence?”
“I got trapped in a time stream for a long time, and after-I thought that- I…. I didn’t want….”
“Why was Dick silent too?”
There was a pause before Dick spoke,
“I was busy helping Damian, then some things happened, then we were looking for Bruce, and I had to work with the Titans, and I know it’s not an excuse, but so many things happened and I…..I forgot.”
“Oh, ok.”
“Ok, that’s it?!”
Damian yelled out in surprise.  She looked over at him and tilted her head as she studied him.  He was quite a few years younger than her, his skin was tanned, and he held himself with a sense of entitlement.
“Yea, Dad and Dick get busy, and it’s not like I was alone.  Alfred talked to me sometimes, and I had Tom and Sabine.”
“And what when they were busy?”
“I had my work.”
“Who else?  Surely Drake contacted you.”
“No, he didn’t say anything.”
“So you were just by yourself and you accepted it with no fight or push back?!”
Damian sounded angry and she didn’t get why.  It wouldn’t do anyone any good if Dick or Dad stopped helping people because she was lonely.  Besides, once she became Ladybug she understood why everyone was always so busy.  Being a hero was a full time job, and no one ever said that it wasn’t a lonely one.  She mastered the silence years ago, she was fine.
“I understand the importance of their work Damian.  It’s not the first time there was radio silence for a long time, I just usually got a notice of how long first.”
Damian’s fists were clenched and he turned to dad with those fiery green eyes that looked like they would kill the person in their line of sight.
“Father, I demand you remove her from Paris and have her return back to the manor immediately.”
Everyone turned to look at Damian in shock.
“She is blood, and she should be treated as such.”
The silence continued as everyone stared at him, but he continued to stand there with his chest puffed pridefully and his stance was full of confidence.  She stared at him in awe.
“Marinette, do you want to come back to the manor?  You could spend your last year of school at GA, and Alfred would be happy to see you again.”
Dad said with a voice so full of hope, and she desperately wanted to see her family and her home again.  It’s not like she had anything to lose in Paris, and all she had to do was take the ring from Chat, and she knew who Hawkmoth was, so she just had to teleport and take it.  And she should get to know her little brother, especially if he was the one who wanted her to come back.
“Yes.  I-I want to come back home.”
Cheers erupted in the room and—no, she did not squeak, she didn’t—as she was lifted into the air.  She felt her lips tug up into a smile as a laugh tumbled out of her lips.  When was the last time she felt like this?  The void wasn’t gone, not at all, but it felt smaller.  There was something replacing the darkness that crowded her soul, it was so much lighter too.  A talk, that’s what they had, but it felt like so much more than just that.  She was home, and they wanted her home.  Things weren’t perfect, far from it.  She still felt hurt and betrayed, but maybe things would get better.  Maybe not today, not tomorrow, not in a month, maybe not even in a year, but it would one day, and that’s all that mattered.  Because all of her brothers were hugging and holding her, excluding Damian who had a hand on her shoulder, and she had never felt as safe or as warm as she had in that moment.
Memories/Stories
Marinette remembered a lot.  She remembered her dad and his bright blue eyes, the same ones she shared with him.  She remembered spending time with her daddy and Grandpa Allie.  She remembered going to the circus with the Drakes because they had a son her age, and daddy didn’t want her to be outed to the public yet.  Tim was her only friend, well, honestly he was more like a little brother.  He was always getting into trouble, so she had to get him out of it.  But that was only if his parents were gone, when they were home he always acted so strange.  He was always rigid, he talked differently, and all his mannerisms felt wrong.
At the circus they got to meet a lot of the performers, and Marinette laughed at Tim when they met the Flying Graysons.  He could barely keep still, and when the youngest Grayson said that he would dedicate his performance to Tim she swore that he nearly blacked out before he squeaked out a small, “thank you.”  Both of them got a picture of them with the Graysons.  She still had it, she kept it in her journal.
She hadn’t realized it would be the last photo that the family of Graysons would take together.  She still had nightmares of what happened next, because while the Drake’s covered Tim’s eyes, she was forgotten about, and all she could really recall from the blurry memory was the red on the floor and the sickening cracking sound that was made.  Her dad wasn’t happy when he found out that she had seen that, and she wasn’t allowed to go over to Drake manor anymore, severely limiting the time she spent with Tim.
The day that her dad brought over Richard, or Dick, over.  She had a big brother now, and he was really cool!  He taught her how to do gymnastics and acrobatics.  Daddy was busier than usual these last few months, and she didn’t want to bother Alfred when he already had so much to do.  The months before Dick came were very boring and lonely, but now she had a big brother!  Nothing was boring anymore, though she hated how he wouldn’t tell her how he kept climbing onto the chandeliers!  She wanted to do that too!
Everything seemed to be going great, school was a breeze with her family helping and guiding her, she even managed to skip a grade!  Tim was in a couple of her classes too!  Then Dick and Daddy began to argue more and more.  It was always tense when eating dinner, she didn’t eat as much, just enough that it would be acceptable to leave and go to her room.  Then her birdy flew away and left to a new city, and she was alone again.  Daddy was always busy doing his detective work or WE work, Alfred did his work, and she stayed in her room and did her homework and drew.  She didn’t want to disturb anyone, she didn’t want there to be any more contention, and she was getting better with the silence again.
She remembered when Dad brought home another boy.  He looked all messy and too thin.  Alfred had been teaching her how to bake, maybe she could make something for him?  His name was Jason, but she preferred calling him Jay-Jay.  He called her Pixie.  She smiled at the name.  Dick had given her a nickname too, he called her Blueberry because her hair looked a very dark blue in the light.  It took a while for Jay-Jay to relax around, they said it was because he grew up on the streets.  She laughed when he told her he was caught stealing the tires off the Batmobile, and that he got three off before he was caught.
Everything was going fine until her birdy, Dick, came home.  She was so happy to see him again, and he seemed happy to see her too, but he didn’t look happy when he saw Jay-Jay and Bruce coming back from patrol.  They started yelling at each other again.  It was so loud, and it felt wrong, and she felt sick.  She ran as fast as she could trying to get away.  There was too much noise, everything was too much, and it was all so wrong.  She didn’t know where she was until she felt warm arms embrace her.  She opened her eyes—when did she close them again— and was met with deep blue eyes, Jay-Jay’s eyes.
“Hey, it’s ok Pixie.  You’re safe here.  They’ll get over it eventually.”
He wiped at her cheek, she hadn’t even realized she had been crying.  She looked around and saw she was in, what she liked to call, the “Secret Cove”.  A fairly wide space in the library trapped between two bookshelves with a small table and bing bags with lots of different types of blankets.  She often made forts here.  She snuggled closer to her older brother and cried.
“They k-keep fighting, and-and because of al-ll the tension Dick l-left and it w-was so quiet.  It was-wasnt right Jay-Jay.  Why do th-they keep yelling?”
“Hey, it’s alright Pix.  It will get better soon.  I’m here now, and you won’t have to worry about the quiet anymore, ok?”
She nodded her head against his chest and nearly melted against him when he ran his hands through hair.  She didn’t remember much else after that, but she remembered waking up surrounded by the rest of her family, and it was peaceful.  That was one of her favorite memories.
Then Jason left, and Dad left after him, and they both came back, but….Jason….he-he didn’t make it.  She remembered running out of the cave and vomiting as tears ran down her face.  Dick was in Blüdhaven, he didn’t know.  Everything was wrong, everything was so, so, so wrong!  It was quiet in the house, there was weight, one that had never been there before, not even when Dick had first left.  Not when he was gone with his teams.  Not when she was all alone in the house.  Not when there was a fight in the house.  Because this silence was permanent.  Because Jason would never come back to fill it.
She remembered when her Dad sent her away, right after Jason’s funeral.  She was forced to leave immediately after, and she dropped worse.  Her dad didn’t want her anymore.  She understood what Tim meant now.  She never said goodbye to him, maybe she could write a letter.  The ocean was dark above them, and there was a void in her chest similar to the one she was currently feeling.  Because she was abandoned, Dick didn’t want her with him, Dad wanted her gone, Jason left for other people because she wasn’t a good enough sister; then he died, and Tim probably forgot all about her by now.  So as all of the people she thought were her friends crowded someone else, ignored her, gossiped about her, hurt her, she didn’t show anything.  The void she felt before was back again.  She was still the same child she was before.  Nothing had changed from her past and now, just more loss.
She had good memories that she tried to hold onto.  Jason taking her on a ride in the Batmobile when dad wasn’t home.  Dick teaching her Romani.  Alfred teaching her how to cook.  Tim showing her his latest photos of Gotham during his nightly escapades.  Dad showing her the Batcave for the first time.  But those were all memories.  They were stories of a different girl.
She wasn’t Marinette Wayne anymore.  No, she was Marinette Dupain Cheng.  She wasn’t the daughter of a superhero or a billionaire.  She was the daughter of two simple bakers who lived normal lives.  She was her own hero here who set and made the rules.  Even if the void she felt almost everyday for the past 4 years continued to grow like it always did, she would be fine.  She had a job to do, and the mission always comes first.
Last Name: Wayne
continuation of day 13
You would think when the day came when she was supposed to fall out of existence she would be nervous.  No, she wasn’t nervous at all, because she was going to defeat Hawkmoth, get the ring, get rid of Lila, and disappear altogether all on the same day.  Mom had helped her plan this to the T.  Besides, it’s not like anyone would care if she was gone, nobody had ever cared.  So, when the day came, she teleported into Agreste’s office while he was working and tackled him to the ground.  She pressed her foot atop of his neck and created enough pressure he wouldn’t be able to move her foot and feel very uncomfortable while still being light enough he could slightly breath.  She grabbed her yo-yo and began to stream to all of Paris through it keeping it directed only at her face.
“Hello Paris, this is Ladybug coming to you alive from Hawkmoth’s home!  Now you must be wondering who has been keeping you all emotionally hostage, I’m here to show you that it’s none other than Gabriel Agreste.”
She turned the camera to the man’s angered face.  His hands gripped around her ankle as he tried to move it, but it was no use.  Mom had taught her how to incapacitate and hold her ground, the miraculous enhanced her strength adding to what she already had.  She bent down and yanked off his horrendous tie.  And this guy was a “fashion designer”, he had some taste to turn his akumas into such hideous fashion disasters.  She yanked the purple broach off his chest and watched in satisfaction as the garish gem turned into a small and simple purple flower with 4 silver petals in her hand.  The door burst open and a panting Nathile stood at the door.  Ladybug glared at her and placed the broach sadly in her yo-yo.
“Gabriel, tell me, who were your accomplices, besides Nathile that is.”
“The-there weren’t-“
“What about Lila Rossi?  I’ve got proof that she willingly worked for you.  Best to announce it now, and maybe I won’t send my mother after her.  Because juvie is much better than what she would do to her.”
There was a long silence and Ladybug pulled out a knife off screen of the feed and watched as he paled and her foot pressed down harder ever so slightly .  He choked and she smiled as he sputtered out,
“Y-yes!  She w-willingly helped m-me akumatize people.”
Marinette was pleased and completely lifted her foot off of his neck and stepped away as he gasped and coughed for air.  She turned to Nathile who was also pale at the sight of what had just happened.  She simply raised her hand out and watched as she shakily took off the peacock brooch and handed it to her.
“That wasn’t too hard, now was it?  Police, you can do whatever with these people, I’m done.”
She said as she placed the broach into her yo-yo.  She then closed her yo-yo effectively ending the feed.  She opened a window and flew out of it heading directly towards her old school.  She landed in the center of the courtyard and was not surprised to see the school throwing a party.  Everyone turned to stare at her and before she anyone could rush her she yelled out,
“Adrien Agreste!”
Everyone froze and parted for him as he rushed towards her.
“Ladybug I didn-“
“I know you didn’t know.  That’s not why I’m here.”
“O-oh.  Then why a-“
“Adrien Agreste, you have abused the Cat Miraculous and it’s powers.  You were unfit to be my partner and you have lost your worth that led you to have the miraculous in the first place.  I renounce you and forbid you from ever using another miraculous again.”
The courtyard was completely silent and Adrien was in so much shock she was able to rip the ring right off of his finger.  Then she left without another word.  She had to do one more thing now.
She watched as the entire school rushed out of it and silently followed Alya, Nino, Kim, and Adrien.  Others soon joined their group and that’s when the plan commenced.  Mother had been very particular about this and it needed to be timed perfectly.  Marinette let tears run down her face and she began to sob as she ran towards the group.  She ran right into them and fell over causing them to turn and look at her.
“Marinette!  What are you doing here?!”
“Alya I need you to live stream something for me!  Please, it’s the last thing I’ll ever need of you ever!”
Alya looked around hesitantly and sighed.
“Fine.”
She said stiffly.  She then pulled out her phone and began to play it,
“Hello everyone!  I was asked by an old friend to record this for her, say hello to Marinette Dupain-Cheng.”
“Hello everyone, I’m here to tell everyone that Dupain-Cheng is not my last name.  My last name is Wayne.”
Gasps and looks of confusion were shared by the students all around her.  They were at a bridge high above the Seine, so high that if she fell off it would cause some serious injuries.  Thankfully mother was waiting for her near the bottom with a lifeless clone waiting to take her place.
“Father, Dickface, if you’re watching this, I want you to know that I hate you.  I’m not going to be ignored, stepped on, replaced, or treated like dirt any longer.  To my classmates, screw you all as well.  You’ve used me for the last time.  This is goodbye, I know when I’m never wanted.”
And with that she jumped off the edge of the railing.  She could feel the hair pushing against her, here the sound of the water, the screams of her class and other random people.  She was grabbed out of the air and watched as the lifeless clone continued falling in her place.  The sound of the body hitting the water echoed and water splashed onto the ground.  She smiled up at her mother who was holding her tight to her chest.  Well, she knew she was wanted by at least one person.
________
Dick was confused when Tim called around 7:43 in the morning.  When he picked up Tim was in hysterics, and was he crying?
“Timmy!  I can’t understand you, I need you to calm down.”
There was silence over the phone with occasional sniffles.
“Dick, have you looked at Twitter recently?”
Tim said solemnly.  What?  What could be on Twitter that would cause Tim to cry?!
“No?”
There was another sniffle,
“Search up #Marinette Wayne then.”
He said with a weak and hoarse voice before promptly hanging up.  Had something happened to Mari?  When had she outed herself, she said she wanted to still be secret.  He knew that Tim and Marinette used to be friends when she still lived in Gotham, but what had happened that got him so emotional.
Then he saw it.  It was a short video, but he thought he was going to be sick.  His baby sister, she-she.  Oh gosh, and it was his fault.  He had done that, she was gone because of him.  What had he done?!  He pulled up news articles and felt warm hit tears run down his face as he read them.  Eventually he shut off his phone and began to sob into his hands.
What had he done?
Bruce and Alfred weren’t doing much better.  The house felt more broken than it ever had before.  She may not have been a dead Robin, but she was his daughter, and now she was dead as well.  He shouldn’t have pushed her away.  He should have talked to her.  Checked up on her.  He should have done better, been better.  He had failed again.  He didn’t leave the manor often after, rarely even for patrols mourning the loss of his sweet innocent daughter.
________
Marinette liked Nanda Parabat.  Here she had amazing teachers that actually taught her stuff and made sure she learned and understood the material given to her.  She learned different languages, she learned how to fight and use weapons, and as she and her baby brother grew older she got to teach him.  Jason had been placed in the Lazarus Pits by Ra’s while she was gone, so when she returned she was surprised to see his eyes light up when he saw her.  He understood what was happening, he was talking to her, what was he saying, he was hugging her.  Tears rushed down her eyes as she held him close and muttered how much she had missed him.
She wasn’t able to reverse the pit madness no matter how much she wanted to, but she was always there for him, always there to calm him and keep him sane.  They trained together and learned different styles of learning.
Then one day Jason said he was going to travel to different places to learn different things from some of Talia’s contacts.  He said it would help him when he returned to Gotham to kill the Joker and help with his plan to stop crime the right way.  Damian was three now, she had to be there for him to help him, besides, she could visit Jason whenever she wanted with her portals.  She could train here while he was away, so with a long hug they said goodbye as parted ways until he would return.  He had promised that he would take her with him, he promised that he’d let her help.
Marinette went on many missions to help her mother, and to be honest, she wasn’t too upset when she had to take a life.  These people were hurting others in terrible ways, they were terrible people that enjoyed watching others suffer.  So, a quick endless way for them to leave this world was all it took, and someone else would take up and hopefully make better decisions, or they would be next.
Damian was a fast learner —he was also REALLY adorable— and picked up skills she taught him quickly.  She often let him and Plagg play together, under Tikki’s or her supervision of course.  They don’t need the end of the world or the base to collapse.  She would read Damian stories and sing him songs that she had learned.  He was a hard worker, and she could tell that he would do great things.
________
Two years passed and like he promised, Jason returned for her.  She hugged Damian goodbye and promised to visit him as often as she could.  His eyes were so sad, but he made himself stay strong and gave her a sharp nod.  He was too young, but he seemed so old.  She placed a gentle kiss on his forehead and hugged her mom goodbye, and they were off to wreak havoc on Gotham and it’s villains.
________
Lady Noire watched from the shadows as Red Hood tossed down the bag of heads onto the table where the drug dealer heads stood.  She was mostly there if things went wrong, but it seemed like everything was going on smoothly without her.  So she gave a soft tapping on the wall that only Hood would hear and silently left.
Wandering around the rooftops of her home city was freeing in a way she hadn’t felt in a long time.  She sat on a roof and stared out at the lights that glittered below her.  Her ears twitched as she picked up movement behind her, it wasn’t Jason, she could tell.  Her tail-braid swished back and forth waiting for her visitor to arrive.  If it weren’t for her advanced hearing and heightened senses she probably would have never heard them coming, but she did and as soon as they were right behind her she tilted her head back to look at them.
“Hi Tim.”
Robin froze, hand stretched out and horror etched on his face.
“Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.  There’s no point, besides you're not why I’m here.”
“And why are you here?”
Tim asked, deepening his voice a few octaves.  She rolled her eyes and looked back out to the skyline.
“Private.”
It was silent for a few moments before she huffed and said,
“You can sit down, I’m not going to do anything.”
Hesitantly he sat on the ledge with her, but stayed a few feet away.
“So are you Cat Woman’s apprentice that we haven’t been told about or what?”
“No, though I did always admire her.  I’m something else.”
“Huh.”
“Is Dick coming?  I can tell your comms are in and recording this.”
Silence again confirming her suspicion.  Slowly she stood up stretching her arms over head before grabbing her staff.
“Well, good to see you again Robin, hopefully we meet under good circumstances like this next time.”
And before he could do or say anything she was gone and a few moments later Nightwing landed on the roof cursing under his breath.
________
Lady Noire was taking care of some trash that thought could undermine her and Jason by grabbing street kids in their territory(The Bowery) when a thump landed behind her.  She growled and hit one of the guys in the head with her staff while she turned to face her visitor.  Batman in flesh stood tall in front of her.  Bas* thought he looked menacing, but it’s really hard to do that when you’ve seen him wear a pink two-two and have a tea party with you.  That brought a smirk to her lips and she wondered if Alfred still had photos of that day.
“Batman.”
“I’m under the impression that you already know who I am.”
She gave him an innocent smile while moving her staff back as she held it behind her neck and on her shoulders.
“Maybe I do, maybe I don’t.  Question is what would I get out of it if others knew?  Answer, nothing.  So don’t worry your outside underwear about it.”
He took a step forward, did he really think that was intimidating.  She blew out a breath in frustration as her ears twitched signaling that there was someone above her and on the other end of the alleyway.
“Look B-man, I’m working.  I haven’t killed anyone….yet.  If you want to say you took these traffickers down and have the glory for it then just do it, I could care less.”
“What’s your name?”
He asked monotonously.  She raised an unimpressed brow,
“Lady Noire.”
She said dramatically bowing while twisting her now smaller staff between her clawed fingers.  She looked up and saw Jason distracting Nightwing.
“It’s been lovely, but I’m afraid I must be going.”
With that she saluted and extended her staff upwards into the sky.  She landed on the roof and began running, Red Hood quickly disengaging from the fight and following after her.  The sound of fast footsteps and grappling hooks sounded behind them causing them to run faster and escape before anything else could happen.
________
Marinette was tired, tired and hurt.  She had seen what happened when their dad was forced to choose between Jason and Joker.  Of course he chose Joker, he threw a batarang at Jason!  She laid on the roof refusing to go to Jason knowing she had to see the void eyes she saw when he first emerged from the grave.  But staring here and just staring at the sky with no thoughts was fine.  She was fine.  She needed to always be fine.  That was fine.  She didn’t have the energy to do anything when Robin landed next to her head and parted down at her.  She had to fight Dick and keep him distracted while Jason did his part with Batman.  She was so tired.
“So, did you know?”
“Of course I knew, we’re partners.”
She snipped back frustratedly, having lost all her patience.  He nodded absently.  They had talked a few times without the others eavesdropping.  She let him rant or tell of ideas of villains and she would just listen to see how much things had changed since the last time she had been there nearly 8 years ago.  After what felt like hours, but was probably minutes, of silence he asked,
“If Hood is Jason, does that make you Marinette?”
Marinette shot up at that causing her to accidentally smack her head against his.  She rubbed her head in annoyance having higher endurance in the suit causing it to hurt less.  Poor Tim though, was really rubbing at it and muttering curses.
“I’m sorry, but what?!”
“Well, he said with a slight wince.”
“It would make sense, and after going over the footage of your death a couple hundred maybe thousand times while the execution of the death was flawless, something always stuck out to me.  Something just seemed wrong about it, and it wouldn’t be the first time someone’s faked their death around here.”
Marinette stayed silent and didn’t even flinch when Robin sat right next to her.  The wind blew against her face as she stared at the horizon.
“Claws off.”
She whispered, green light surrounded her, but Tim didn’t even look at her.  Hesitantly he placed an arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer.
“I missed ya Mars-bar.”
“I missed you too Tim-Tam.”
They stayed like that just sitting there together in silence for a few hours before Tim said that he needed to go.  Marinette nodded and stood up before she called on her transformation and headed back to the safe house she and Jason were currently using, but not before giving Tim a quick hug goodbye.
________
There was an explosion in the building she was in, and she knew she needed to get out of there, but there were still some kids she needed to rescue.  The miraculous could help her breath in situations like this longer than most humans, and she could use her staff to breath.  But as soon as she found the kids she split it and gave the kids part of it and made sure they switched users ever so often as they ran so they could breathe and make it out okay.  She ran a bit deeper and found the last of the kids, but they were trapped by debris.  She called up her Cataclysm and destroyed the debris and gave the last part of her staff to the kids and made sure they all made it out of that part safely.  She was about to follow the kids when a flaming pillar fell atop her.  She screamed in pain and tried to get it off of her, but it was too heavy and she had used her one Cataclysm on the pillar that had trapped the kids.
Coughs wracked her body as her suit’s magic began to slowly fade as her time ran out.  Everything was starting to get blurry and she was too weak to do anything.
Batman rushed through the collapsed building and came across Lady Noire trapped under a burning pillar.  As quickly as he could he lifted up the pillar and pulled her limp body out.  When he dropped the pillar he turned around and was met by a glowing green light, and in Lady Noire’s place was….No.
It couldn’t be possible.  But, Jaso had died and had come back, what was stopping her from coming back too?  She was so much older now, and…he had to get them out of the building, now.  He quickly scooped up his little girl and ran out keeping her tucked under his cape so no more debris could fall on and hurt her.  When he finally escaped the building he was met with a panicking Red Hood, and…how could he be so stupid?  They worked together and had such a similar relationship to a younger Jason and Marinette, it was so obvious.
Jason rushed over to them and practically yanked her out of his hands.  He held her gently and looked her over for any wounds and though he couldn’t see his face through the helmet by the fall of his shoulder he could see how relieved he was.
“Thank you.”
Was all Hood said before taking off, his daughter in his son’s hands.  He quickly rode home and called Dick telling him he needed to come to Gotham and it was very important.  Dick had quickly agreed and drove over only a few hours later.
“What is Bruce?”
“Marinette is alive.  She’s Lady Noire, she’s been living with Jason this entire time.”
Dick stared at him and he could see tears well up in his eyes.  He turned to the cave’s entrance and left.  He would find his baby sister and apologize, and beg for her forgiveness.  Because of course she was alive, no Wayne stayed dead for long he guessed.  He knew were a few of their safe houses were and checked them all until he finally found the one they were at.  He softly knocked on the window and felt his nerves rise as he saw Jason stomp over and open it.
“What?”
He asked annoyedly.
“I need to see Mari.  Please, I need to apologize.”
Jason stared into his eyes for a few moments before he sighed and moved aside to let him through.  Dick smiled and quickly crawled through and would have hugged Jason if he hadn’t dodged away from it.
“First door on the left.”
Dick gave him a thankful smile and nod and quickly ran over to it.  The door was closed so he gently knocked on it and waited.  The door slowly opened and he was staring into his baby sister's blue eyes again.  He took off his mask and smiled at her.
“Hey Blueberry.  Long time no see, huh?”
Marinette gave a weak smile that looked more like a grimace back and nodded,
“Yea, it has.”
An awkward silence took over before Marinette opened her door open completely and Dick couldn’t help but hug her and twirl her around.  He thought she was gone, and it was his fault, his fault, his fault.  But she was right here, she was safe in his arms and she had grown so much, and she was a hero now, and she was here and alive!
“Stop being weird and come here dad.”
Marinette mumbled, still trapped in Dick’s arms.  Dick glanced back and saw a cowlless Batman standing a few feet away from them.
“I’m not mad anymore, I’m sorry I did that to both of you.”
“No Marinette, we should have done better and made you feel loved.  I’m sorry.”
Dick said, squeezing her tighter.
“I’m sorry Marinette, I shouldn’t have pushed you away after Jason died.  I’ll never make the same mistake again.”
Then he turned to Jason,
“I’m sorry I hurt you Jason, I love you both so much.”
“You better tell Tim you love him!  His parents were pieces of sh*.”
Dick gasped,
“Marinette!”
“It’s Jason’s fault!”
She yelled out pointing at a scowling Jason in the corner.
“You little sh*.”
Jason grumbled with an eye roll, but his smirk gave him away.  A few seconds later Tim came into the room and looked around anxiously before spotting Nightwing hugging Marinette who was in fluffy pajamas.
“Umm…”
“Tim!”
Marinette yelled out happily.
“Join the hug!”
“Yea Timmy, come on!”
Tim hesitantly walked forward and was being crushed by Marinette and Nightwing, but he found he liked it.
“Jay-Jay, dad, come on!”
Jason rolled his eyes and grumbled while he walked towards them and was also crushed into the hug, Batman stood in between Dick and Marinette and wrapped all of his children in one encompassing hug.
“Marinette Wayne, you are coming back to manor and will be grounded for life.  I love you all so much.”
“Love you too dad.”
Marinette whispered as she leaned into her father’s arms.  She didn’t realize how she missed him until at this moment.  She loved her family, and she was proud that her last name is Wayne.
Death
Death was nothing new in Marinette’s life.  In fact it played a large role.  Her friends and city had died a hundred times over.  Her brother.  Her funny, smart, loving, dramatic brother had died at the hands of a mad man.  She didn’t think it was wrong for her to use the horse miraculous to visit her brother's grave.  It was officially five years after all.  He would be 20, he would have loved to plan out her 16th birthday this year.  She sat down and read Pride and Prejudice out loud, only a few tears falling as she glanced at the grave every so often.  She had also brought a bouquet of white lilies, statices, red carnations, and white daisies.  Soft grass laid over the dirt, the sun gleamed above, and sometimes when she would lean against the grave it was almost like she could feel him.
Dark storm clouds began to cloud the sky, and she knew she would have to leave soon, though she didn’t want to.  Dad would be upset if he caught her, though considering how many weeds she had to remove from the grave and how abandoned it looked, she doubted anyone had visited any time soon.  Suddenly the rain began to pour down and it felt like the earth shook.  She felt a great imbalance, but where, and how?  She touched both of her ears and she could feel her miraculous still there, Tikki even poked her head out from her bag with a look of fear.  A shiver ran down Marinette’s spine as rain came pouring down soaking everything in sight.  She looked around, and she kept spinning searching for something, anything that could have caused or been affected by the imbalance.  She waited there for many minutes just waiting, when she felt the dirt beneath her feet begin to shift a little.  She quickly moved away and watched as the dirt slowly moved and shifted.  She felt sick, because the dirt moving was directly where Jason was lying in eternal rest.  This couldn’t be right, this must be some mistake!  Her brother had died, she had seen the body, it haunted her nightmares for so many nights.  He’s been gone for five years!  This can’t be possible without some type of wish.
The grass began to move and shift away, and a fleshy mud covered hand raised from the ground causing a scream to rip from her lungs.  Her body sprung into action before her mind caught up to her beginning to help dig up her brother's grave, and when she saw the jet black hair covered in dirt and mud she knew that it was him.  She heaved him out from the hole and stared in shocked horror as he just sat there staring at her.  His eyes were the same blue she remembered, but they were so clouded.  Fear, confusion, and nothing shown in his eyes, like he wasn’t even truly there.  This must be a dream, it has to be, no, a nightmare.  Her brother shouldn’t be back, he died, she saw his limp body in dad’s hands, even if Alfred and bluebird tried to stop her.  But the imbalance was real, she could tell, and he was affected by it.
Slowly she raised her hand and hesitantly placed a hand on his cheek.  He leaned into her hand, though his eyes were still clouded and void.  He may be alive, but he wasn’t fully…alive.  She tackled her older brother into a hug and began sobbing onto him, but just sat there, head leaning against hers.  Pressing her ear against his chest she could hear his gentle heartbeat, and just for a moment everything seemed like it would be ok.  Then she felt a sharp prick in her neck and the world faded to black.
________
Marinette awoke to darkness.  She tried to sit up and felt her hands held behind her back being held together by something cold and thick.  Memories flooded back into her mind and she snapped into awareness and looked around.  It was dark, though there was a small light coming from a window far above where she could not ever reach.  The walls seemed to be made of thick stones and there was a heavy iron door a few feet in front of her.  Jason wasn’t there though, he wasn’t in the room, she didn’t understand.  Suddenly the door opened and she looked up and saw her mother’s green eyes.  Her panic grew again, how did she get here, was she captured too?  She had visited her often in Paris.  She was very vague about her job, and she knew it was probably sketchy, but could it be bad enough to be captured?
“Marinette, My Darling.  I apologize for your treatment, I did not realize that you were part of this.”
Talia rushed towards her daughter and unlocked the chains.  She was pulled into a tight hug that Marinette quickly returned.  After a few moments she pulled away but held her shoulders gently.
“I must show you something, come.”
Talia quickly stood and helped her daughter to her feet and walked swiftly through the calls of Nanda Parabat.
“What is mom?”
Talia smiled at that, she had always loved when her daughter called her that.
“It’s a surprise, My Flower.”
A few more twists though hallways and they stopped in front of a thick wooden door.
“I want you to meet someone.”
The door was pushed open and there sat a small baby in a crip with dark black hair, tanned skin, and dark green eyes.  Marinette gasped and covered her mouth,
“Meet your brother, Damian.”
Marinette slowly walked over and stared at Damian through the top of the crib.  He silently watched and studied her without making a sound.
“He’s about 3 months old.”
Talia said, smiling happily as she watched her daughter run her fingers through Damian’s small tresses of hair.  With a snap of her finger one of her shadows stepped next to her.
“Bring Jason.”
And with that order they were gone returning a few minutes later with a boy who was alive physically, but was mentally gone.  She could fix that though, it would be the last resort if all else failed, but she could fix it.  Marinette looked up when she heard Jason’s footsteps and her bright smile fell slightly into a small sad one.
“Jay-Jay.”
She whispered softly as she took slow steps towards the boy.  She quickly ran and hugged him again.  He no longer smelled like mud and he wasn’t wearing his suit, and he was….he was alive again!  Tears fell down her cheeks, because she missed him so much.
________
Marinette stayed with her mom in what she learned was Nanda Parabat.  She trained with Jason, but he was catatonic, just going through the motions blankly.  It worried her, especially as she watched her mother grow more anxious.  She cared for her little brother, and wondered if her dad knew, or if he would even care.  She often looked at Paris news for when she needed to go for Akuma attacks, but if her host parents even realized she was gone.  They hadn’t, nor had any of her “friends” apparently as they hadn’t sent her a single thing from the weeks she’s been gone.
Marinette knew that Nada Parabat wasn’t a good place, knew that the people were bad, knew that her grandfather was the head of it.  He didn’t seem to care who she was, he just thought she was some nurse for Damian, and she was thankful for that.  She knew that the Lazarus Pits were here, what they did, how they were made, how her grandfather used them for selfish purposes.  She didn’t do anything though, she was mad at her father for sending her away, mad that he adopted a bee kid only a year after he sent her away, mad that he never talked to her, mad that Dick never fought for her or looked for her, mad that Jason was forced to wake up and climb his way out of his grave only to be practically brain dead, mad that her classmates believed lies over her, mad that her host parents believed them and treated her like dirt or an invisible object meant to seen and not heard, mad that Chat Noir would leave her during battles because she didn’t return his affections, and mad that no one cared that she was gone!  So she trained as hard as she could, made sure that she perfected everything her mother threw at her.  Took care of her family and made sure they knew how thankful she was for them and loved them.  Then when she finally got a text from someone it was insults for being a horrible person and hurting Lila when she hadn’t been there for weeks!
She threw her phone at the wall and the crack echoed around the room.  Her breathing was harsh and ragged and then the tears she had been holding back finally fell.  Sobs wracked her body as she bit her lip to keep silent.  She tried to take in deep shuddering breaths, but it was no use and the sobs came out.  Her knees felt weak and she crumpled to the ground.  The door burst open and she saw her mom there knife in hand looking around the room with swift deadly eyes.  When she didn’t see any visible threats she kneeled in front of her daughter and looked directly into her eyes.  Eyes a storming blue that flooded with tears and made her heart ache and her want to murder whoever made her precious daughter look so broken.
“My Flower, what’s wrong?”
“N-nobody cares ab-about me!  No one cares that I’m g-gone.  Everyb-body hates me, and I’m so tired of it!  I’ll n-never be enough for an-anybody and I’m t-trying so h-hard to do wh-what everyone needs or exp-ects me to be!”
Marinette stuttered out between sobs.  Talia glared at that and felt anger at Bruce.  She thought that he at least checked in with her every once in a while.  She had guessed wrong then.  She pulled her daughter into a hug and let her cry against her shoulder.
“Shh, shh.  It’s okay.  You are perfect the way you are Marinette.  You don’t have to prove anything to me.  You’re such a good sister, you train so hard, and you have so many amazing skills and talents.  You are enough, don’t let anyone say anything different.”
Marinette gripped onto her mom and they both just sat there in silence as Marinette finally just cried.  After who knows how long Marinette gently pushed away and looked her mom directly in the eyes with complete seriousness said,
“I want you to help me fake my death.  If everyone wants to pretend I’m gone or wants me to disappear, then fine.  I will.  I don’t want to be seen anymore.”
Talia stared at her daughter in shock for a moment then gave her a small smile.
“It will be done my dear, you will be free.”
“Thank you mom.”
Okay, she could do this.  Keeping this from her host parents would be easy.  They didn’t really care what she did as long as she was responsible and safe…..ish.  Her dad and siblings though….that was a whole other issue.  How was she supposed to keep this from them?!  She looked over at the small floating creature in front of her, and while she knew that she could do this, she desperately wanted to let her family know.  They were out of Paris, they could help her with the detective work, and she could have an excuse to go to the cave to train more often.
“Can I please tell-“
“No Marinette, you can’t tell anyone!”
“But they’re heros too, and they aren’t in Paris!  They are our best bet at ending this quickly!”
Tikki seemed to consider it for a few moments before ultimately shaking her head.
“I’m sorry Marinette, but I don’t make the rules.  You can’t tell anyone.”
Marinette felt annoyance and frustration course through her.
“Then who does make the rules?!”
Tikki shook her head,
“I can’t say.”
Marinette groaned and she really needed to let her frustrations out on something!  The gym should still be open right, maybe she could take it out on a punching bag.
Then her computer started ringing.  She looked over and saw the icon she set for Babs.  Quickly clicking the accept call button Babs and Tim popped onto the screen.
“So we may have set up something on the cameras in Paris.”
“Barbara began with a hesitant smile.”
Marinette smiled and sighed as a plan popped into her head.
“Yea, it’s crazy right?”
-.-. .- .-.. .-.. / --.. .- - .- .-. .-
Her fingers tapped near the mic on her desk as she leaned on her open palm calmly.
“A year after I came here there’s new heros and a villain that controls your emotions!  None of you are allowed to visit until it’s dealt with.”
.- .-.. ... --- / -. . . -.. / -.-- --- ..- / - --- / -.- . . .--. / .- / - .- -... / --- -. / - .... . / -.-. .- -- . .-. .- ... .-.-.-
She picked up a pencil and fiddled with it, tapping against her desk and twisting it between her fingers.  She glanced over at the little fairy that was staring wide eyes at the screen unaware of the secrets she was silently telling.
“Yea, that would be bad, especially if The Demon Spawn and Jason went.”
Tim tapped his finger against the desk calmly, though he looked slightly panicked.
“Yea.”
The word had a double meaning, and Tikki was none the wiser.
________
It had been a year now, and Marinette was now the official Guardian.  She had worked with Zatara with learning how to use her magic, and found out Wonder Woman had knowledge through her mom, who once was a past Ladybug herself.  Thankfully everything in Paris was kept on the down low and the rest of her family knew nothing.  She did not want Dick’s mother Hening, Jason was even worse.  She shivered at the thought of telling them now that she was so far in.
But now she made the rules.  Master Fu was gone, and it was her decision on what she did next.  So, Tikki couldn’t stop her, not anymore.  So she waited just outside of Paris for her family to arrive.  She was going to be in so much trouble, but maybe they would understand?  No, she’s going to be in trouble, then they won’t trust her again, they’ll bench her for life, and-
Thump
The sound of quiet feet landing brought her back to herself.  It was time.  She turned and saw her family staring back at her, well, everyone excluding Duke, Steph, and Babs.  Someone had to keep the city safe after all.
“Ladybug, it was brought to our-“
“I know.  I asked you here because as I am now the guardian I make the rules on what to do.  And before you say anything I’m really sorry I didn’t tell you before, it’s just I was told I wasn’t allowed to.  And I was afraid that if you guys found out you would all try to come and I didn’t want to risk it.  I’m so close to figuring it out though, so if you could ground me in like, two months since that’s when everything should be ready that would be great.”
It was silent, but she could hear Tim snickering.  Traitor.
“I apologize, but I don’t think I fully understand.”
Batman said, confused.  Right, she was in suit and the magic blocked people from finding out.
“Spots off.”
A bright light surrounded her and when it disappeared Marinette stood in place still wearing her lounge clothes which consisted of comfy sweats and a giant oversized sweater.
“What the- Pixie?!”
Jason called out quickly as he removed his helmet to make sure he was seeing things correctly and his sensors did it have an error.
“Hey Jay-Jay.”
She said with an awkward wave and what was supposed to be a smile, but was more of a grimace.
“Remember, it wasn’t my fault because I was forbidden to tell anyone by the past guardian, I told you when I became guardian like a responsible person, and I said you could ground me in two months when everything is done.”
She rushed out voice dying into a small squeak near the end.  She could feel her dad’s disapproving look.  She glared in Tim’s direction as he stood there smugly in the shadows.  Damian had a smug look too, the brat.  Her lungs felt like they had stopped working because she was being squeezed by Dick and one of his octopus hugs.
“You have a lot of explaining to do, Cupcake.”
Oh good, nicknames.  He wasn’t too mad then.
“I want a full report, Marinette.”
And there was her first name.  She was in a lot of trouble then.  All well, hopefully it won’t be too terrible.
Bonding
Continuation of Day 1
“Do you want to meet your siblings?”
Bruce asked gently.  Marinette bit her lip and thought it over for a few moments before giving him a small nod.  Bruce gave her a small smile and nodded and slowly stood up and motioned towards the group of people in front of them.
“This is my oldest son, Richard.”
He said motioning to a tall well built young man with dark black hair and ultramarine blue eyes.
“It’s nice to meet you, Marinette.  You can call me Dick.”
She wanted to question the name, but thought better if it lest she be shunned.
“This is my second oldest, Jason.”
“Nice to meet ya.  It’s been a while since Bruce got another one.”
The others snickered, but she didn’t really get it.  Her face must have shown her confusion because he waved it off and said,
“You’ll understand soon enough.”
She just nodded.  The man was very muscular and fit.  He wore a dark leather jacket  and gave off the bad boy biker feel.  He also had dark ebony black hair and blue green eyes that almost seemed to glow.
In a slightly more tired voice her dad—and was that weird to think about— continued.
“This is Tim, my third oldest.”
“Hey, welcome to the family.”
He looked slightly older than her, but only by a few years.  He had steely blue eyes and midnight black hair that framed his face nicely.  There were dark prominent bags under his eyes as he held what looked to be a flask of what she assumed was coffee.  She could feel for him.
“This is Damian, he’s older than you by about three months.”
Damian’s chest seemed to puff up a bit at the statement.  He also had dark spot black hair, but unlike everyone else his eyes were a very prominent green.  She felt a little sick looking at them as she thought back to the green eyes that decided to hurt her with the others.  To betray her and use her for whatever sick game he wanted.  She looked away, she didn’t want to think about it anymore.  If he had said something, she hadn’t heard it.
“This is-“
“Hi, I’m Stephanie, Tim’s girlfriend, it’s so nice to have another girl!  Your outfit is so cute, we have to go shopping!”
Marinette perked up at that and looked at the girl.  She had blonde hair and blue eyes.  She seemed very eager and genuinely happy.
“Cassandra.”
Another girl with black hair and brown eyes quietly spoke.  Both girls studied each other and seemed to come to a silent understanding.
“Hey, I’m Barabara, but you can call me Babs.  It’s nice to officially meet you.”
A girl with fiery red hair and blue eyes in a wheelchair said.  She nodded and gave a small wave to all of them.  She didn’t feel like talking, but was it rude not to say anything?  She really hadn’t spoken in a few days, and her voice would sound weird if she did speak.  Then they would think she was weird and they wouldn’t want her.  They can’t afford to have someone like her in their family.  They would kick her out, then she would go back to Paris where people bully her and mama and papa would be disappointed.
“Marinette, hey, I need you to breathe.  It’s ok, you don’t have to do anything.  That’s it, you’re doing a great job.”
She hadn’t realized she had been on the brink of a panic attack.  How embarrassing.  She looked away as her cheeks flushed in embarrassment.
“It’s ok, come on, I’ll lead you to your room.”
She nodded softly and followed her dad to her room.
_________
The next day everyone was at the table for breakfast.  When she got to her room and was left alone she promptly face planted onto the giant bed and fell asleep and missed dinner.  So, this would be her first meal with her family.  She hoped that she wouldn’t do anything embarrassing or cause a disturbance.  What she didn’t expect though when Alfred showed her to the dining room was the noise.  Alfred let out a tired sigh and as they walked in she was stunned to see the chaos.  She expected it to be a more formal and uptight kind of thing, but this shattered everything her brain thiught up.
“Hey Mari!  Good to see you, hope you’re hungry because Alfred made crepes!  Sunday crepes are a sort of traditional.”
She simply nodded as she stared up at Dick who was speaking to her….hanging upside down….from the chandelier.  How on earth did he even get up there?!  She looked around the table and saw Damian sharpening a katana, Stephanie drawing something on a passed out Tim’s face, Barbara working on her computer, Jason reading some old book, and Cassandra sitting quietly watching the room.  Her dad wasn’t there yet.  She quietly sat next to Cass who gave her a small nod and continued to just sit and watch.
“Hey Mari, want to go shopping with Babs, Cass, and I after breakfast?  We could show you around and have a girls day!  What do you think?”
Marinette froze at the question and thought back to the last strike she had just hung out with other girls with no expectations other than to be there.  She nodded shiny, and that seemed to be the right thing to do because Steph’s smile got brighter.  She turned to Cass and whispered,
“Is it always like this.”
Cass nodded solemnly, but had a fond smile on her face.  Well, this would be interesting.
_______
Shopping with the girls had been the most fun she had had in a long time.  She didn’t remember the last time she had smiled and laughed like she had.  She even felt comfortable enough to openly speak with them.  She just knew that they wouldn’t betray her.  Maybe she was too trusting, too naïve, but she wanted to trust them.  They were family after all, and her family had stuck by her even though everyone else tried to turn them away from her.  She even got some news clothes to wear.
Bonding with the boys was different for each of them.  For Tim they had similar insomniac tendencies, so she helped him with work and his hobby if slicing cold cases while she would embroider.  Whe both of them were burnt out they often just watched a crappy movie they could make fun of or watched vines and memes.
For Dick, they bonded through acrobatics and gymnastics.  They would work in the personal gym when he visited from Blüdhaven.  She had to pretend she didn’t know how to do a lot of things to keep her cover of being Ladybug, but it was fine.  He was never condescending, and he was a really fun teacher.  Though, he never told her how he was able to get atop the chandeliers, said it was his way of being a “cryptic”.
For Jason he sparred hand to hand with her and would talk about books with her.  She wished she had had Jason as a teacher during Hawkmoth’s Reighn.  She could have avoided so many hits and the fights would probably have been much shorter.  He also really helped her with her English, she was thankful for it, especially when school started and she had to read The Scarlet Letter.
Figuring out how to bond with Damian was….difficult to say the least.  He would avoid her as much as possible, and he really reminded her of Chloe with his mannerisms.  That was fine though, she had put up with Chloe for years on end, she could deal with him.  One day she stumbled across him painting the manor’s gardens and watched.
“What do you want Dupain-Cheng?”
He asked snippidly, not even turning to look at her as he continued to paint.
“Just watching you work.  Your art is beautiful. I love to draw, but I’m not good with this kind of thing.”
It was silent for a few minutes before he sighed and said,
“I could teach you.”
She couldn’t believe her ears.  She had been here for nearly 4 months, and she knew that this was not normal for him.
“Pardon?”
He sighed annoyed you and carefully laid down the brush he was using to turn to her.
“I can teach you if you don’t act like a fool and be annoying like the others.”
“Yea, that would be cool.  Thanks Damian.”
He simply nodded and turned back to the canvas.
“We’ll meet here tomorrow at noon.  Bring a sketchbook and some pencils.”
“Alright.  Thanks again Damian.”
She was stunned, but in a good way as she left and a smile spread wide across her face.
After that they would often meet and discuss styles and different artists that they liked or disliked.  Sometimes they would even meditate together.  She was happy to spend time with her brothers.  Damian even said he would teach her how to fence soon!
_______
It was 6 months in when she finally got to do daddy daughter bonding, but it was worth the wait.  That night Ladybird went on her first patrol with the rest of the bats, and when it was time to split she went with Batman, her dad.  So he was where she got her hero instincts from.  Her smile was the widest it had ever been as she soared across the sky.  Was beating up muggers, drug dealers, and other villains an orthodox way of father daughter bonding?  Probably not, but to her, it was perfect.  She had missed the way the wind rushed passed her as she swung around, missed the thrill of danger, and the joy of being able to help and save others.  He even took her to get ice cream in suit when patrol was over!
Marinette loved her family, she felt like she belonged, and her soul sung out in joy every time she was with her family.  Sure it was chaos everyday, but she wouldn’t change it for the world.
Marinette was tired!  She had been up all night doing commissions, homework, and working on the Hawkmoth problem.  She needed coffee, and she needed it now.  Curse Tim for infecting her with his insomniac lifestyle.  She could hear the jerk laughing at her from an ocean away.  As she sipped at the concoction she called, “Resurrection” and she could actually see clearly she realized that the laughing was not in her head, nor was it an ocean away, it was a few feet away from her laying casually on her couch.
She stared at her brother while still sipping her coffee waiting for her brain to log back on.
“Going to offer me any?”
He finally asked with a smirk.  The cheeky ahole.
“No.”
She said blankly.
“Please Bean?”
She placed a finger to her chin and pretended to consider before repeating,
“No.”
He rolled his eyes and stood up taking quick steps to reach and hug her.  She rolled her eyes and held the coffee over her head.
“I’m not letting you steal it either!”
He grumbled and pulled away.
“Now, where are the others and why are you here.  I have to be somewhere soon.”
“We can’t just visit our baby sister.”
She raised an unamused brow making him sigh and roll his eyes.
“Fine, B took away the WiFi and Babs helped so I can’t hack it.  So….”
“So, you thought you could mooch off mine?  In Paris?”
“Well, since we understand the importance of finishing work I thought you’d understand?”
She paused and blinked at him, taking a slow sip of her coffee before sighing.
“Yea fine, just as long as you don’t do anything stupid and keep your emotions in check.”
“Thanks Bean.”
He said going in for another hug, and she quickly— it was graceful, she did not trip or stumble— ducked away.
“Nope, I know your tricks.”
She said as she hugged her mug to her chest and glared at the pouting man before he trudged back to the couch and laptop.
“Do the others know you're here?”
She asked as she finished off her mug and rinsed it in the sink.
“They shouldn’t.”
Marinette hummed and went upstairs to get ready for her group hangout.
_________
Marinette laughed at the joke Nino made.  She felt so happy being surrounded by her friends, that was until she spotted someone.  Quickly she excused herself and calmly and walked up to the man.
“Whatcha doin’ here Dicky?”
Marinette asked innocently.
“Oh you know, seeing the attractions, eating the food, looking for a sleep deprived Tim.”
“Tim?”
She asked, “confused”.
“What’s he doing here?”
“Bruce cut off his internet and I assumed he would come to you.”
Dick asked scanning we face for anything.  But she had been trained by Tim, Jason, and Damian to hide all traces of anything from both her dad and brother.  She learned the puppy eyes from Dick though, and they were very effective.
“I haven’t seen him.  Maybe he was just smart and went somewhere else.”
“Hmm, I guess that could be true.  Well, let’s go meet your friends.”
“Wait what, no-“
It was too late, he was already moving towards them and she knew this was her punishment for lying to her brother.
“Hey Marinette’s friends!”
Marinette rushed towards them and looked around anxiously as a few of her friend’s mouths dropped and some just glanced at him not knowing who he was.
“Oh my gosh, y-you’re-“
Alya turned to look at Marinette with wide eyes.
“You didn’t tell me you knew the Wayne’s!”
“W-well…I- th-they commissioned me!  I didn’t expect them to come all this way though.  See his fitting wasn’t for another few hours.”
Marinette covered. No one knew about who her real family was except her host family who let her take their name so she could go to school in peace.
“Yea, guess I just got excited.  Me and my family are just huge fans of your work.”
Marinette subtly rolled her eyes but brought a blush to her cheeks so she didn’t seem suspicious.
“Oh-well, thank you.  I-um…thanks.”
Her friends snickered and she shot them a non-threatening glare.  How was she supposed to warn Tim without Dick noticing?  He was obviously going to come to the bakery now.
_________
It was late at night when she saw a shadow move on the building she was on.  She had just finished her patrol route and her team would be meeting her for reports soon.
“Dad, Robin.”
She greeted without looking back at them.
“Tt.”
“Ladybug.”
As she opened her mouth she heard the sound of her teammates coming to the roof.
“Hey LB, how are-holy….i-it’s Batman!”
Chat whispered in awe.  Immediately after his statement Ryuko, Honey Bee, Rena Rouge, Carapace, and Viperion landed on the roof.  Only Chloe Kagami, and Luka were able to hide their shock and awe, one with indifference, another with stoicism, and the last being his normal serine self.
Ladybug sighed and rubbed her forehead in exhaustion.  It’s a family reunion she guessed, all she needed now was Red Hood and the girls.  Then again the girls were the only tolerable ones, besides Alfred.  It was going to be a long week at least.
“Guys, this is my dad, Batman and brother Robin.”
“DAD AND BROTHER?!”
Everyone, excluding Luka and Ryuko, basically shouted.
“Yes, and they were just leaving.”
She almost growled as she glared at her family.
“No we aren’t.  We are here to-“
“As the older sibling, and as this is my terf, I get the last say.”
Damian glared back at her and opened his mouth but closed it when Batman placed a hand on his shoulder.  His frown deepened and he refused to look at her as she smirked in victory.
“We’ll talk later then.”
“I guess we will.”
“Wait!”
Rena shouted getting out of her styler and pranced towards him like an overly eager fox.
“Could I get a picture with you, or maybe even an interview?  I won’t show anybody, but it would be so amazing!”
Her eyes were basically glowing as she asked.  Marinette glared at him and nodded.  If he did something stupid like this he deserved the punishment of her over eager friend and inner fan girl.  He sighed and stoically stood beside her.
“Wait, everyone needs to be in it!”
She said pulling everyone and arranging them into place.  She tried to touch Robin, but quickly thought better of it as he grabbed the hilt of his sword.  Ladybug had to hold back her snort.  It took about ten minutes, but they finally got the picture and her father and little brother finally left.
Reports went by quickly after that, but seemed tedious after the event that had just transpired.  Quickly she swung home and face planted onto her bed.  She could feel eyes on her and looked up to see her dad staring fondly at her.  She rolled her eyes before face planting back into her pillow with her middle finger raised in his direction.  She was too tired to put up with anything right now.
Seven Deadly Sins x Maribat
Medieval Au
@maribat-bdbwm
Based on this idea
~~~~~~~~~~
Ten years ago.
On the outskirts of the city of Liones, of the capital of the country Liones, in the land of Britannia, homes destroyed, and countless holy knights laid butchered in the streets.
That day will go down in history for its infamy, the day the Seven Deadly Sins betrayed the country of Liones.
---
This is a tale of ancient times, an era before the human and non-human worlds were forever divided. When the Holy Knights, defended the realm, wielding their magical powers they were feared and highly respected. But among them a group emerged, that betrayed the kingdom, and became mortal enemies to all Holy Knights. They were known throughout the land as the Seven Deadly Sins.
---
Present day.
Near the Kaynes Village, there was a new tavern that was a buzz with customers.
“Here you go, drink up.” A young girl placed five steins of ale on the table. She had dark black hair that shown blue, pulled into twin pigtails by two pink ribbons, and bangs that framed her face and blue eyes. She wore a collared off-white shirt under a black vest with green panels. A pink skirt over leggings that reached halfway down her calf. And wore black and green boots. As more people come in, she directs them all with a smile.
“For a little lady, she is one hard working waitress.” A customer acknowledges.
“Oh no, I’m not the waiter, Buddy” She turns around. “I’m the owner of this place.” She turns to walk away.
“She’s the owner?!? A young kid like that.” But she doesn’t hear them.
“Alright, fresh from the oven. The meat pie that made the Boar Hat famous. Enjoy.” Three patrons dug into the pie, and promptly got sick. “You should have known. Our reputation is for having really good booze, but the food not so much.” She said with a completely straight face.
“Are trying to mess with us you little punk.” One shouted ready to fight.
“Wait guys, she’s packing a sword.” Another of the three pointed out. The handle was an emerald green and looked like a dragon with ruby eyes.
“Well, you guys, looks like we have a problem.” Her smile fell and she snapped her fingers. “Now let’s fix it.”
“Come on you call that a mess.” Out trotted a shiny black pig, wearing an earring tag. “Really what do you need me for?”
“Wait!!! That pig. He’s talking.”
“Yes, I’m a talking pig, what a bunch of dum-dums.”
“Plagg, we need to get this floor cleaned.” She spoke.
“Ugh, what a hassle.” Plagg complained. “Scrap disposal is a tough business.” He ate leaving, but before he did, he retorted. “Next time there better be some decent sized scraps.”
“You know I have an old family recipe for whole roasted hog.” She spoke to no one in particular, but with a deadpanned expression. Which changed Plagg’s tune quickly.
Then someone barged in. “I saw it. I really saw it.” He sat down. “I swear to all that is holy. I saw the wandering Rust Knight.”
“That’s just a made-up story, like how parents get their kids to stop misbehaving. The Seven Deadly Sins will come in blood rusted armor, oooh ahhh.”
“The Seven Deadly Sins?” She asks from behind the bar.
“You’ve never heard of them? They’re wanted posters are hanging everywhere, like those over there.”
She looks at the board and there were seven faces and seven names. Marinette, Chloe, Adrien, Luka, Felix, Lila, and Kagami.
“How long has it been? Ten years. When all those holy knights were slaughtered so fast, they couldn’t defend themselves. It was the Seven Deadly Sins that did it. From what I've been told the way the holy Knights’ grandmaster was killed was too gruesome for anyone to look at.” They began to talk amongst themselves.
“They say their captain, Marinette, is the scariest of them all. It's even said that she's brought down whole countries on her own.” Everything went quiet.
Until another patron spoke up. “Well none of them have been caught yet have not a single one.”
“They’re dead, they have to be the new Holy Knights would never let them live after what they've done.”
“Yeah you've got a point even now with the kings sick. The Holy Knights are making sure that the Kingdom stays safe for all its people. But those notices up on the board get updated every single year. Doesn’t that mean those seven criminals are still out there?”
“Yeah well some spooky knight walking around in rusty armor sounds pretty ridiculous to me.”
“You’re right.”
A crash, scraping, and banging was heard just outside the Tavern door.
“That smells an awful lot like rust to me.” Plagg sniffed the air and then cowered behind the counter.
The door opened and there stood the rusted knight. “The Seven Deadly Sins…” Hhe moaned as he entered the Tavern.
Screaming, panic, and everyone rushing out of the Tavern ensued. Fleeing from the rusted knight.
The girl jumped over the counter and stood her ground defiantly looking at the Rust knight. “Now who are you?”
The Rust knight swayed and then fell to the ground collapsed. His helmet rolled off of him. And then they saw his face, his eyes shut tight in the pain and exhaustion, his black hair short and messy stuck to his face from the sweat. And he wore a singular earring, a true blue engraved with something in red and gold.
“This kid is one of the Seven Deadly Sins?” Plagg asked the girl, and they took him up to the room taking the armor off of him. “He's just a boy.”
“Let’s just make sure.” The girl went up to the boy and started poking him first on his thigh, then his stomached, his bicep, she was leaning over him and was about to poke his cheek when his eyes flew open. “Yep, he's a boy.”
“Um, pardon me but what am I doing here?” He was quiet and soft spoken.
“Oh yeah you came into my bar then you passed out cold.”
“Your bar?”
“Yeah, the Boar Hat, my Tavern.”
“You’re the owner?”
“Is that so weird?”
“I just saw that sword, so I naturally assumed.”
“Oh, this old thing.” She motioned and pulled the sword from its scabbard. “Ha ha ha. Yeah, I guess if you only see the handle, it can fool ya huh.” All that rose up and out with her hand was the handle and a small stub was left of the blade, which was practically worthless in a fight. “It makes guests think twice about skipping out on their tabs.” She put the sword handle back into its scabbard on her back.
Which was when they moved downstairs to the raven again. Marinette cooked up something for the boy, and set the plate in front of him.
“First you nurse me back to health, now you're feeding me, how can I possibly thank you enough.” He barely choked out.
“First before saying thanks you should probably try the food first.” Plagg’s nasally voice cut into his words.
“What do you think? Awful isn't it.” She leaned down on the bar now watching him eat with a grin on her face.
“Yes.” He responded.
Which caused both her and Plagg to respond in unison. “Knew it was.”
But then something shocked them, he started to cry.
“Still its delicious.” Tears fell down his face.
“So what exactly were you doing walking around in that old armor, anyways?” She asked the boy.
“I'm on a personal quest to find the Seven Deadly Sins.” He answered.
“Why would you do that? You don’t even know if those guys are even still alive or not, and they’re serious villains.” Plagg reasoned.
That was when banging was heard on the tavern door, knights banged on the door, and ordered them to open up for them.
That was when she noticed the boy got slightly afraid at the mention of Knights.
After a moment of the Knights bickering to themselves, that gave her just enough time to think. She went and opened the door.
“Who are you?” One of the Knights asked her as she opened the door.
“I'm the owner of this place. What do you want?” She was relaxed.
“The Rust Knight is in there, send him out!” The same knight answered.
“Alright.” She turned around and looked back. “You might want to come out now.”
They all looked past her and saw Plagg dressed in the armor that the boy was wearing walk out.
“You have some nerve mocking the Knights of this land like this.” He grabbed her by the shirt and lifted her up off the ground. She was small, sure but he still held her up a meter off the ground.
That’s when the boy had snuck out of the back and made a run for it into the forest. Unfortunately, he was seen. “Look a boy just ran out, after him.”
The knight threw her back to the ground and she and Plagg shared a worried look.
The two of them ran after the boy and the Knights, Plagg mowed down, tackling each and every one, while she went after the boy. The last knight got pushed down off of the cliff at the edge of the forest by Plagg. While she and the boy were safely out of the way in one of the trees at the edge.
“So why are you looking for the Seven Deadly Sins anyways?” She asked him once they were back on the ground.
“To stop the Holy Knights.” He answered.
“Are you serious!! Why in the world would you wanna do that?” Plagg exclaimed. “The Holy Knights are the king’s men, the knights are here to protect us they are heroes.”
“But what if they were behind a plot to start a war in our country. Except for the king himself, the entire royal family was arrested and is being held by the Holy Knights.”
“Does that mean the king isn't really sick in bed?” Plagg asked the boy.
“That’s just a cover story the Holy Knights are using. I don't know what they think they can accomplish by driving the nation to war, but now they're drafting people. Taking men wherever they can get them they're preparing for war everywhere you look. So their reach will even extend all the way out here.” He shook his head.
“Yeah tough break, huh?” She finally responded.
“Wow you don't have any empathy at all. How does this tie back to the Seven Deadly Sins again?” Plagg shook his head.
“If there's even the slightest hope of preventing the Holy Knights from doing this. I know they're the only ones who can.” He was resolute.
“Just checking here.” She Butt in again. “You’re trying to find those guys even though you know what kind of people they are?”
“The Seven Deadly Sins are the most vile Order of Knights the Kingdom ever produced, made up of seven vicious bloodthirsty criminals each one branded with the mark of the beast. Ten years ago when they were suspected of trying to overthrow the Kingdom the Knights of the realm launched a full force attack scattering them to the four winds.”
“Well if you believe the rumors they each died a long time ago.” She spoke distractedly.
“Such amazing people wouldn't possibly let themselves get killed!”
“But they are criminals aren't they causing the suffering of the people right now?” She asked confused.
“When I was small, only five or six years old, my father would tell me stories about them and that's when I learned they are the most powerful Knights!”
A rumbling was heard and then the edge of the cliff they were on started to crumble and fall beneath them, dropping them down.
“I did not confirm whether or not they were people named in the report. Conclusion two individuals of unknown origin dead. What do you think men that sounds about right?” A man wearing red armor, silver grey hair and mustache.
“But Sir Twiggle, one of our knights was still under the cliff.”
“Simply put three fatalities in the report then.” Twiggle answered haughtily.
“But Sir, you can't! That’s too far even for you”
“How about seven fatalities instead?” The knight in red armor moved towards the rest of his men, but that was also when she jumped back up on to the cliff with not only the boy and Plagg in her arms but also the knight who fell.
“When I give a signal to you run into the forest got it.” She spoke quietly to the boy.
“Which one of them would you believe to be a member of the Seven Deadly Sins. Neither bears any resemblance to the wanted posters?” He then noticed something. “God is smiling upon me today, the crystal earring you're wearing is from the royal family. Conclusion you are Prince Jonathan!”
“Wait hold on Prince Jonathan?” The knights shouted.
“You're a Prince?” She added softly.
“Orders from the Capital are to determine your whereabouts. the order was to capture you alive and in healthy condition, but if you lost your life in an unfortunate accident…” Twiggle spoke aloud.
“I can't allow myself to get captured not yet!”
“Conclusion accidental death.” Sir Twiggle let off a shockwave of air magic chopping the entire forest down to the ground.
“Hi there, you alright?” She had pulled him down and covered him from the blast. “Plagg?”
“Seriously I'm a shaved pork on a skewer.” He cried. A single small little twig had splintered in his back. And he went off crying and screaming Tikki.
Johnathan stood and started to walk towards Twiggle. “Johnathan. Hey! What are you doing?” She called after him.
“There’s no escape.”
“Wait hang on you just said you couldn't afford to be caught or to give up.”
“Maybe if I surrender myself peacefully, he'll agree to take me back with him and your life can be spared.”
Sir Twiggle sent off another blast cutting into everything again, but she was able to tackle him out of the way just in time.
“Please get out of here while you still can.” He begged her.
“I think he wants to make sure neither one of us gets out of here alive.” She noticed as She was above him once more. After the attack ensuring he was fine yet again, the only real damage done to her, and that was her left sleeve was completely torn revealing her entire arm from shoulder to fingers. A mark barely visible on her shoulder.
“I was so happy when I met you. Searching for the Seven Deadly Sins, I so scared alone in that rusty armor. There wasn't any help I could ask for. Then you show up and show me such kindness, someone that you've never met before. I don't wanna see you hurt my problems anymore when I don’t even know your name.”
Memories flashed behind her eyes and a smile spread on her lips.
“Marinette. If you really wanna know.” She grinned from ear to ear.
“I… I don't believe it you can't be you're just.” Tears threatened to fall from his eyes.
That was when the knight who fell with them regained consciousness jumping up. “Where's the girl the one with the sword. I saw it when she saved me from the cliff the symbol it was right there. The symbol on her shoulder it… it… it’s her.”
Sir Twiggle struck again now closer, right on top of them. The magic was unleashed but Marinette stood up and was now facing the Knight.
“How is this possible? My technique was flawless I am certain my blade struck her!” Twiggle began to look even more and more frazzled. “But I was the one who felt the force of the blow. How could it have hit me?! And what is that in your hand?! A broken blade! Broken blade… now your face is beginning to look familiar. Truly it can’t! How can you look exactly the same as you did then?!? No matter your time's up! How dare you still exist!”
Their blades clashed their magic erupted, which sent Twiggle and his men flying high, high into the sky almost like a meteorite.
“Extraordinary power.” Johnathan breathed.
“Captain of the Seven Deadly Sins, the Dragon sin of Wrath, Marinette.” She announced.
