My name is Allie.
a request from @daradiostarz
Allie stared at herself in the mirror, she looked at her long hair and into pale eyes. She gently cupped her own cheek stroking a thumb under her purple eye bags. The makeup she was wearing had clumped together slightly. She looked around her room and it was adorned with fluffy teddies and butterflies…girly. She remembered when it used to be blue and had famous baseball players on the wall and there were no butterflies or posters of ‘the spice girls’.
She never did like that kind of stuff.
From a young age Ale-Allie expressed an interest in more feminine items like dolls and makeup. Her mom would take her shopping for jeans, button-up shirts, and ties for family events. However, she would be drawn to the pink frilly dresses in the girls section. Despite her mother constantly telling her that she shouldn't wear that kind of stuff if she was expecting to be taken seriously. At school she was often mocked for her interest in dolls and princesses; he-she wanted to be the damsel in distress whenever they played princesses and knights. The other girls would want to play with their Barbies and makeup. It was always the same excuse.
“You are a boy!” she heard the words ring in her ear. It wasn't fair, but nothing is ever fair! She was born the wrong gender and never felt right in her skin like it was too tight or itchy alot like the stupid button up shirts her mum used to buy for her. She wanted to rip it all off and grow her hair out and wear sparkly lip gloss…but she was born wrong. He-she had been caught once with her mum's makeup trying to apply it in the bathroom mirror but when she finally told her, Allie had been taught to apply makeup properly.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
She remembered the first time she heard the word transgender. An article had been published in the newspaper about a young man who had changed his sex and was now a woman. She recalled looking at the picture and tracing her fingers over it. The women's hair and nails perfectly matched her eye makeup. That night, Allie researched the more in the article of the newspaper reading how people who were transgender never felt comfortable being assigned a particular gender at birth. The deeper she dug, the more she felt like this word described her. She looked at herself in the mirror the stupid short mop of hair on hi- her head and the adams apple that was still developing bobbed as he-she swallowed thickly.
She she she she she SHE SHE SHE...but he was a boy, just like everyone said he was. No amount of lying to himself could convince him he was a girl. WHY WAS LIFE SO UNFAIR?! He kept crying fat tears rolling down his cheek. He didn't dare cry in front of other people as he would be told to “Man up!” But he didn't want to ‘man up’ ; he wanted to sob and scream his heart out. He kept wailing in front of the mirror. His mum, obviously distressed by the noise coming from his room, bounded up the stairs and burst into the bedroom instantly cupping his face and kissing his cheek “Oh darling, what's wrong?” She asked cradling her son in her lap rocking him back and forth “come on you can tell me” she cooed.
Alex stiffened as he kept crying he didn't know what to say the word felt stuck in his throat he decided it was now or never and decided he was willing to tell her “mum…I think I’m transgender” Alex squeezed his eyes shut expecting something hateful like "don't be silly youre a boy!” But instead he felt a soft tender hand running through his hair, the sweet words of his mum in his ear “oh Sweetie…you should have told me” she kept hugging him and saying how ‘it was ok’ and ‘you can always speak to me’.
Allie looked in the mirror again, reapplying her makeup and smoothing down her t-shirt. She twirled a lock of mousey hair around her finger. Jen and the rest of Allie's family surprisingly supportive of her choice. They had started calling her by her preferred name even if they accidentally got it wrong sometimes.
They tried and she appreciated that they were trying. Her mum had taken her out dress shopping and bought her anything she wanted. Jen helped paint her room and eventually opened up to being bisexual, which Allie happily accepted…she finally felt comfortable and happy being Allie. Her mum thought it was a very pretty name and encouraged her that it was the right one. She also helped her grow out her hair, style it, and made her feel safe while loving and supporting her. Her uncle helped Allie pick out new paint for her room and the fairy lights she had strung around the room that twinkled like tiny stars. Yes, on the legal documents she was still a boy called Alex but she didn't care she was determined to live the rest of her life being a girl
Her name was Allie.

I have found the best ally
Straight and cis people will say that they are allies, but you will NEVER measure up to my dentist.
Me: "Hey, is it ok if I can change my name on my info from [DEADNAME] to Sai?"
Random woman that I wasn't even talking to in the chair next to me: "Honey, if that's the name you had at birth, [DEADNAME] is your only name."
My dentist, very slowly turning her rolley chair towards the woman: "Shush."
Random woman: "Excuse me?"
Destist: *closes privacy curtain while staring bullets at the lady*
Me: *pissing myself laughing*
My dentist while changing my name in my info (reminder that English is not her first language, she immigrated from Russia): "There, Sai, you have pretty boy teeth. Smile and make all girls swoon."
Me not having the heart to tell her I'm not transmasc but I'm Agender, and still pissing myself laughing: "Thank you [DENTIST NAME]."

Nebraska hasn't passed a single bill this year because one lawmaker keeps filibustering in protest of an anti-trans bill: 'I will burn this session to the ground'
Damn. I thought she was just gonna up and make a fuss and her swearing to protect trans kids was a bunch of empty words (again).
But no. She's one-woman filibustering the entire Nebraska legislature into a complete standstill until they agree to protect the rights of trans kids.
She was 100% serious when she said she'd make it as painful for everyone as it is for trans kids. Gahddamn.
This is why small elections matter. She's not a country wide senator or president or shit. She's just a local official representing District 6 in Nebraska.
This is why the "smaller" elections between the presidential elections matter.

His ass does not pay attention enough to know all of their genders. Toph wears baggy clothes, he squinted at her and went “yeah that’s a boy. Or boy adjacent. Probably.” and moved on. Ally???

Terfism is targeted at radicalising older-middle-aged women in order to sever the otherwise naturally-forming bond that makes trans women and older-middle-aged cis women the strongest of comrades via our shared interests and experiences.

literally on my fucking knees begging and pleading for cis allies to stop saying things like “no trans kid is getting surgery” “no trans kids are transitioning” “trans kids just take reversible puberty blockers until they’re older” because these statements are not only demonstrably false, therefore giving transphobes an open window to completely debunk your argument and boost their own (”if it’s not happening why do you care if it’s made illegal?”), but you are not helping us or protecting us and our rights. you are hurting us.
i started hormones when i was 14 because psychological and reversible medical treatment did not ease my dysphoria enough to improve my quality of life! me, my family, and my doctor(s) decided that hormones would be the best next step to help me, so that’s what we did! trans kids DO take hormones, and they DO occasionally get surgery, and that is COMPLETELY FINE!! because preventing a family from accessing what they and care providers decide is the best healthcare for a child is CRUEL AND UNETHICAL.
multiple studies show trans people who are forced to wait until late adolescence or adulthood to medically transition have worse mental health than both their immediate peers and continuing on into adulthood.
if i hadn’t started HRT when i did i would have flunked out of school or killed myself before i turned 18. trans kids have a right to access best practice medical care, whatever that may be for them.

I've met him in person btw and he's a fucking sweetheart

[ID: Text-intensive Twitter thread from the Shapeshifters chest binders Twitter account in reply to a post by artist and author Ursula Vernon. Vernon says, A non-zero number of you apparently did not know that The Last Unicorn was a book before it was a movie. It is by Peter S. Beagle. It is made of spun glass and fairytales and iron knives and there are individual lines that I would give my lungs to have written. Shapechangers replies, I saw him every year at NYCC for several years straight, bought something at his table, asked him to sign it, and we spoke. He remembered me from year to year, no small feat at that con. He remembered which stories he'd told me. One year I came back with a different gender on. He squinted at me a bit and said thoughtfully, "I've seen you before in this place." All I had to say was, "last year you told me the story about the inoshishi." And his face cleared, and he leaned in with a grin and told me about a German guitarist who he traveled with, twice. Who transitioned between the first and second time, so he'd gotten to meet this person all over again on the second round. It was a wonderfully kind way to let me know that everything was fine. I was fresh out of the closet and I needed that, and maybe he could see it. The Last Unicorn is the best book in the world and I will defend it and its author til I die. the end. /end ID]
I don't usually talk about celebrities; artists, when I do, and I'm keenly aware that one needn't be a good person to be a hell of a heartwrenching artist. But Peter S. Beagle has written a few of my favorite things in the world, he's an excellent singer and filker, and this Twitter thread was dreadfully important to me. I don't want it going away as Twitter becomes Shitter, because it's so often bad news, isn't it? It's important to me to share trans joy.

"I’m Lola, a Black transfemme living in Nigeria, where my existence is illegal with two decades of jail time. I got kicked out by my parents after I was forcefully outed and am currently in a homeless shelter.
I’ve been harassed multiple times, and recently, I was followed and harassed by four men near the shelter who threatened to kill me and split my head open. My life is in danger, and I’m facing homelessness as the shelter will be shut down by this month’s end. Being homeless as trans woman or transfemme in Nigeria is a death sentence
I’m also dealing with suicidal thoughts from gender dysphoria and a lack of access to HRT.
I’m seeking help so I can afford safe housing and gender affirming care so I can transition safely and save my life. This GoFundMe is the second one created because of problems with the first."
Lola is currently living on the streets because their homeless shelter kicked them out when they reported transphobic harassent and violence. they've been attacked, and they need food and money for a place to stay.
if you prefer not to donate to the GFM, you can send money to Lola through P*yP*l here: paypal.me/angelsaxis
