The force was so quiet for so long. So many living beings cut down, their communication and the waves that it caused in the force were just gone. So quickly. So suddenly.
And then for the first few years after, the movement continued to decline. Slowly it grew impossibly quieter. Until the force was so still. So silent.
It still flowed. So long as life existed the force would flow through it's natural paths. But where it had once been a river crashing over stones. Colliding with so many force sensitive beings it had become a slow still creek. Whose water remained glassy reflective and seemingly unmoving from the surface.
Ahsoka knew that the ones she had loved were in there somewhere, returned to the force flowing through all life. But not as themselves. Not as the living thinking beings she'd known before. They were passive now. Part of the will of life with no feelings or motivations of their own.
Until...there was movement again.
Subtle and nothing like anyone she'd known before. The gentlest ripple, like a turtles beak breaking through the surface. It was an old presence. or it felt that way. Like someone who was and had been a part of the force for some time. But who had managed to maintain...not a physical form but something wholly personal within the all consuming sameness of the force.
It was a fleeting visit. Like an animals eye cast in her direction to asses the threat she may pose only to disappear below the surface once more. It came and went always barely a flicker of movement on the edge of her senses.
When there were two, Ahsoka thought she understood what it was. As the observing presence surfaced once more, feather light ripples washing over her heightened senses, she felt something else as well.
Someone else.
Familiar enough in the pattern of ripples that, like echo location, Ahsoka swore she could make out a shape.
"Obi-wan?" She whispered hopefully. relishing in the way the force swayed between them like water beaten in gentle waves by two moving objects.
Once her former grand master entered the force he must have gone to work. Because while her first visitor had only become perceivable in proximity to her location, There was a distinct change to the flow of the force when Obi-wan entered it. Like the introduction of a new species changes the landscape, he changed the flow of the force. A fish making waves as it swam endlessly, never sleeping.
The dakside users stomped into the flow, kicking up stones and splashing but never catching the slippery target.
New ripples were forming like children reaching in for the first time. letting their fingers play along the surface. A new generation dipping their toes into still waters.
And then Yoda came. He changed the landscape once more. Not by making waves but by breaking them. By sitting his whole presence down in the force like a rock in a stream. Splitting the flow and breaking apart the ripples rings. The first stone for the flow to beat it's self against.
The waters were becoming alive again. Teeming with newness and oldness all the same. She was able to put a name to the little turtle beak. Ancient and observant despite their years, was Qui-gon.
Ahsoka was not afraid anymore of dangling her feet in the water. Where before she had crossed over stones to keep from rippling the surface, now she splashed through the water as recklessly as the sith did. calling attention to herself, but letting the ripples break along Yoda's back before they could be traced back to her.
She wasn't sure how they managed to preserve themselves in the force in such a way. And she doubted she'd learn to do the same. So she may as well make as much movement as she can now.
Then....there was Anakin. She'd become spiritually acquainted with every version of him. She knew the shape of his soul, light and dark. And when he passed into the force it was like the gates of a damn being opened. The rush of the force was strong again. Not raging like a river but moving enough that you could see the shapes bending along the surface. The various plant life bending with the flow.
And Ahsoka dipped into the flow like a child being baptized.
The force is alive again. Not just a by product of life, but full of it. Of the souls of the past mingling with the will of the living.
For so long she'd endured the still, now she'd bathe in the flow. whatever it brought. Wild waters meant hot spots and cold depths. Slippery algea and jagged stones. But come what may, it was the waters of life. And she'd been sitting on the banks for too long. So she'd endure all of it.

I can't hold it in any longer. I'm so deeply confused by Ahsoka. I just really don't understand who this show is for. Is it for regular people who watch The Mandalorian but have never seen the animated shows? Then the fact that all the main characters have years of history that those people know nothing amount basically guarantees that they will not find any aspect of this story compelling. If you don't know who Ezra is, why would you care if he's saved or not? If you don't know anything about Hera and Sabine's relationship, would you be interested in Hera's continuing presence in this show? If you've never seen Thrawn, how could you think of him as a genuine threat that everyone should be worried about? And if your only exposure to Ahsoka is in the live-action shows, then I'm sorry, but why would you want to watch a show about that character, who is very cold and appears to have no real emotions or inner life and whom you have been given no reason to be invested in?
On the flip side, as someone who has seen Rebels and The Clone Wars, speaking for myself I can say that this show is giving me nothing I want because it's simultaneously dependent on the backstory of those shows but is trying to be accessible. Ahsoka has a long, complicated, very fraught history with the Jedi order--something you'd have no idea about from what this show is giving us (the opening crawl called her an ex-Jedi knight! which she isn't! what is going on!). The intense bonds of love and family that tie together the Ghost crew members are alluded to here, but the actors can't really sell them, through no fault of their own, but because those bonds were so thoroughly established by separate versions of the character. I miss the warm, deeply intimate, sometimes fractious relationship that Hera and Sabine had, a weird cross between mother/daughter and older sister/younger sister that was such a lovely part of Rebels and that isn't really being recreated here. Most of all, I think Filoni's desire to keep the animated references down to a minimum has, in these first three episodes, resulted in the erasure of my personal favorite Ghost crew member! And to me it makes no sense! Ahsoka was never the main Jedi in Sabine's life--Ezra and Kanan were. The people who first taught Sabine to use a light(dark)saber were Kanan and Ezra. We got a Jacen appearance this episode, and he even says that he wants to be a Jedi, but a casual viewer would have no idea that Hera's pained reaction to this is because his father was a Jedi! Star Wars is all about legacies and the pain they cause and the ways that stories repeat themselves and the groundwork for that is all here, but we can't tap into it because this show is being made for people who neither know nor care who these characters are and where they are coming from!
And then there's the one bit of backstory that we're missing that makes me feel like I'm losing my mind. Multiple times in each of the three episodes that have aired so far, I have found myself thinking back through Rebels--was there a scene were it was suggested that Sabine was force-sensitive? The answer, of course, is no. So, given Ahsoka's kind of traumatic history with the Jedi order, why would she see a young woman with no kind of force sensitivity and think, oh, yeah, she should be a padawan? I just don't buy it. Ahsoka's ties to her Jedi life weren't severed when she was expelled from the order, or when she declined to rejoin it, obviously; we saw in s7 as well as in Tales of the Jedi that a lot of her journey is about coming to understand the value of the Jedi and the role that they played in the galaxy and how that legacy lives in her. But her path was different. She's a product of the Jedi order, but she's not one of them. Why she would think the only way to help Sabine to develop is to force her into a mold that a) isn't right for her, and b) ultimately wasn't even right for Ahsoka herself just makes no sense to me. And because we have no access to that first, unsuccessful attempt to teach Sabine, we have no idea why any of this is going on or what anybody is hoping to get out of this arrangement.
I should be done, but if I'm griping, one more thing. In TCW, Ahsoka is an endlessly compelling character. We see her grow from cute little brat to a thoughtful, compassionate young woman of deep conviction and principle, always questioning the world around her, always grounded by deep relationships. Her appearances in Rebels feel like the natural maturation of that character--she's older, calmer, more sure of herself, her personality that before was so bubbly having subsided into deep, flowing waters. But she's still animated by curiosity, kindness, and a sense of justice. She's obviously changed from who she was as a child, but she's still Ahsoka.
I personally see no continuity between this character I love in her animated form and the live-action version. It's not really a performance problem, it's that this Ahsoka just doesn't feel like Ahsoka, because she's missing the quality that I most associate with her: warmth. Ahsoka cares. Everything she does is out of a desire to help people. No matter how much she went through, how much she was hurt, she always came back to that. And that's just gone here. Here, she doesn't seem to have any kind of a personality (bizarre, given that she's nominally the main character). What drives her, what she cares about, the importance of her relationships in her life... I just can't see any of it. And it bums me out, because I love Ahsoka, and I want to watch more stories about her, but I want them to actually be about her, not this imposter.
So, uh, in conclusion, I really wanted a Rebels sequel and I really wanted more Ahsoka but this show is, for me, the absolute worst fulfillment of those wishes. And I'm sad about it!

I dunno if this has been talked about but what's your favourite dinosaur and why?
I've answered it before, but this blog is a decade old so why not do it again!
Maiasaura is my favorite dinosaur species! It was a foundational discovery in understanding complex behavior in dinosaurs during the dinosaur renaissance, and has since been an amazing model system (something nonavian dinosaurs don't have a lot of) for understanding dinosaur growth and life history. It's also an objective cutie patootie.
Second favorite overall is Ravens because they're ridiculously interesting and intelligent animals and I'm, personally, ready for them to take over the Earth from us. I welcome our Corvid Overlords. Also, they're super cutie patooties!!!! the way they play and talk and interact is adorbs!!!
Second favorite nonavian is Kulindadromeus (my prof pic!) because, like Maiasaura, it advanced our understanding of the complexity of dinosaurian evolution - specifically filamentous integument and the evolution of feathers. Kulindadromeus shows that it is likely protofeathers, inclusive of pycnofibres, are ancestral for Ornithodira. This plus the complexity of the feathers known from Tapejara showcase that feathers are a feature commonly found in Ornithodirans, not unique to the ones closest to birds. It also is a fricken cutie patootie and objectively the one we all want as a pet: roughly large-dog sized, herbivore, FLUFFY. it's like having a sheep crossed with a bird as a pet. who doesn't want this.
third favorite is a five-way tie between my individual pet birds, Ahsoka (cockatiel) Minerva (cockatiel) Ellie (my ESA, green cheek conure) Aurora (hybrid conure) and Willis (nanday conure)

The Clone Wars 5.17 ‘Sabotage' Reaction
aka FORESHADOWING KLAXON
Tumblr media
There is so much foreshadowing in this episode. The entire thing is basically just foreshadowing. You could just hold down the foreshadowing klaxon for 20 minutes and it’d do the same thing. There are so many lines in this episode that need a foreshadowing klaxon played after them. In fact, if I did that, my imaginary foreshadowing klaxon would probably be broken from over use by the end of the episode. I’m probably going to need a foreshadowing gong as well.
Cato Nemoidia?! Isn’t that where Obi-Wan jokingly told Cody that Cody had let him down in Revenge of the Sith? (How dare, Cody would never) What happened on Cato Nemoidia? I must know. Is this another thing that’s going to be like what happened in Budapest?
Hello to Barriss, who oh so conveniently appears in the background when Anakin first goes to question Leeta. Fancy seeing you here Barriss! I wonder what you could possibly be doing suddenly appearing lurking in the background after being completely forgotten for 74 episodes.
Why are the temple workers Russian?
I always thought Ahsoka was framed for the bombing of the Jedi temple but it turns out that’s not the case. I’m guessing she gets framed for killing Leeta; who fed the nano-droids to Jackar (her husband) and then blew him up in the Jedi temple hanger.
Jackar’s last name is Bowmani, which isn’t that far removed from sounding like ‘bomb’. It’s even got most of the letters from the word as well, all it’s missing is the second ‘b’. It’s not on the same level as General Ima-Gun Di but it’s also not subtle.
In the same vein, I realised that Saw Gerrera sounds awfully similar to Che Guevara. A rebel in a jungle? Wow, I wonder who that could’ve been inspired by. They even have the same number of letters in their first and last names. I know this is an “animated kids tv show” but that is not subtle either.
On the other side of the whole “animated kids tv show” thing, there is a lot of depth in this episode. I think this is one of those episodes that I’m going to have to come back to and write a much longer analysis about. That theme about the underpayment of workers for a large organisation was fairly clear. As was the other theme about public perception and anti-war sentiments, especially the anti-Jedi public opinion, which I’m sure is being orchestrated by Palps in the background. Curious that the anti-war/Jedi protestors used a symbol of the clones' helmets crossed out to convey their point of view, rather than an image of the Jedi that they’re protesting against. Though I suppose the clone's helmets are a more recognisable, closely associated, and repeatable symbol of the war than some random Jedi or a lightsaber.
Hello to whatever monitoring thing is picking up my recaps of these episodes. With the amount of times I have to include the word ‘bomb’ in these, I’m sure it’s flagging something. To the nice CIA/FBI/NSA/<insert government agency acronym of your choice here> agent who has to read all of my ramblings, I hope you’re not too bored, are comfy and have some tea or coffee and some snacks. If it isn’t already painfully clear, I’m rambling on about Star Wars and The Clone Wars tv series. May the Force be with you and all that.
Not much else to say about this episode. I’ve already rambled on about it for too long. I’m so nervous about watching the rest that I feel all shaky and jittery. I know what happens in the end and it is all just awful. Dammit, why is TCW just full of pain?

9 people you want to get to know better
I was tagged by @loth-creatures!
Last song: Tiresias song snippet by Jorge Rivera-Herrans. I heard this in a tmnt animatic and have been obsessed ever since.
Currently reading: I haven't been reading any books actually. If i read anything nowadays it's usually fic.
Current fic: I have so many fics open rn it's not even funny but the one that's captured my attention recently is we'll meet again, soon by @chiangyorange! I'm almost done with it and it's been so good so far!!! There's been some really funny moments that have made me die with laughter.
Currently watching: Ahsoka has captured my attention but while I'm waiting for the next episode it's a mix of Rebels, tmnt (mainly rise and 2012 but I've also been watching the 2003 iteration lately!), or whatever old fixation crosses my mind (like Transformers or Fairy Tail)
Next on watchlist: I've actually been thinking about giving One Piece a try! With all the hype of the new live action is getting it's kind of making me want to watch the anime. Though before I got back into tmnt I had planned on rewatching D. Gray-Man after I finished Fairy Tail so maybe I'll watch that.
Current obsession: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! More specifically Rise of tmnt (and even more specifically the Cass' Apocalyptic Series by @somerandomdudelmao. The comic is what got me back into rottmnt ☺️) but i also really like the 2012 iteration and I recently got to see the new movie, Mutant Mayhem! I've also been letting the 2003 iteration play in the background as I'm sewing or crocheting because it's easy to follow along with even if I'm not paying close attention. Honestly all the fics I have open rn are for tmnt.
and for my nine people I'll tag the people I've seen in my activity feed recently! No pressure to respond of course!
@jezebelgoldstone @thecraziestcorner @kiaraalazulu @pastatophhistory @panlord @brianwashere @stinkw333d @firapolemos05 @birbtails
(the two creators I tagged in the questions can do this as well if they want to 👉👈)

Update:
It's been a minute! Lol March has been very busy for me with cat sitting. I love it. If you told me ten yrs ago I was getting paid to play with kitties all day, I wouldn't believe you. Now I have 9 clients! Business is growing. Just met the new kitty Mittens. And I just got done with an overnight stay over the weekend. The new house is the farthest I've had to drive for a job. About 40 mins away. But it's on country roads, not the freeway, which I don't drive. It's not bad.
I went to an anime convention! Anime Milwaukee! It was my first con since 2013. I was very excited. I went as Lina. No one knew who I was other than our group (went with brother and sister in law (and her grandma)). But there was another Lina but on the way out. So I couldn't run down the very long hallway after her since I was tired from walking for 5 hrs. Heh But it was cool seeing another Lina there! It was stimulus overload. My friends came and brought their 2 little ones. Like really little, a 1 yr and 3 yr old. They didn't go into the con areas though, just in the public areas. But there were some little babies there which if I got a cold from there, I can't imagine bringing someone that small to one. But they were cute to see. There were some awesome cosplayers. Including all of us. My bro was a cross between Link and Kirk, so he had the Star Trek logo and Zelda logo in the same shape. And a Link hat. My SIL was Charlie in the red dress from Hazbin Hotel, her grandma was Sophie from Howl's. I thought it was so cool that she came! There was a giant Chewy that had the sound and everything. And giant Pokemon. There was also a Minion squad, which was pretty funny. But a lot of characters I did not know. I thought there would be a lot more from recent, but there were some Frieren and that was it. Well, that I knew anyways. It was a lot of walking and a LOT of people, but it was so worth it. Will be going back next yr. We basically stayed in the vendor hall, and I had expected to spend a lot more. But only got some pins, an Anya figure, and a Kirby figure. I could have gotten a lot more Kirby things, but I wanted to see everything. And by the time we were done I didn't want to go back and walk it again. I did get some Japanese snacks too. One was a Baumkuchen, a German pastry that the Japanese Aldo love. Never had it before. Loved it. It was like a more fluffy pound cake. And some strawberry wafer cookies that I didn't care for but my niece liked. Heh She loves anything sweet. But I am glad I went. Even with getting a cold, which has been pretty mild considering.
Other things. Haven't been doing much other than art and writing. I just finished Ahsoka live action and Dungeon Meshi I'm caught up on. Love it. Now I started Bocchi, Bride of Magus and for live action Resident Alien with Alan Tudyk. Anything that man is in is awesome. It's hilarious. I know it's been out for awhile. Kind of like Nathan Fillion where I like anything he's in.
But yeah. That's pretty much all. Hope everyone is doing well!

Hi, I love your work, can I "i don’t want you to be alone" with Ahsoka and a sad and exhausted Obi Obi, maybe after the deception arc? Thank you!
Hello Anon and thank you! I'm so sorry this took forever! (From these angst prompts) // prompts now closed.
Here ya go!
---
She finds him alone.
She doesn’t miss the way his eyes light up with just the slightest spark of hope when he answers the door.
“Ahsoka,” Obi-Wan says calmly, though the hope remains. “Do you need something?”
Ahsoka doesn’t actually need anything, well, anything except an excuse. “Uh yeah,” she says, “you know a lot about galactic history right?”
“I know some. There’s a lot of galactic history to know.”
“Ugh, tell me about it,” she groans, dropping her book bag at her feet.
He smiles and gestures to his small kitchen table. “Have a seat, Padawan.”
Eagerly, she clambers into a chair and pulls out her datapad.
“What area are you studying?” Obi-Wan asks, sliding into the chair next to hers.
“The Ilerian Revolutionary War.”
“Ah yes. That was a dark time for that planet.”
“But it ended well right?” Ahsoka asks. “The Ilerians got their freedom eventually.”
“Eventually yes,” Obi-Wan concedes. “Thousands died to receive it though.”
For the next hour, Obi-Wan speaks of the heroes and the betrayers and all the parts they had to play in the Ilerian war. He speaks of the long-lasting effects of the war on the planet’s landscape, its economy, its people. He asks her questions and she answers.
She had missed this—this version of him that is animated and impassioned and not weathered down by his own battles, literal or figurative as they may be.
“When did you learn all this stuff anyway?” Ahsoka asks him after he pauses in his teachings.
“Growing up, I always liked my own history classes. I would research the topics we would discuss on my own even after the classes reached their end. Then as a Knight, I taught it to the intermediate padawans. But that was before the war, before everything,” Obi-Wan says. A wistful look crosses his face. “I guess we just make our own history now huh?”
“Yeah, I guess we do.”
There is a silent pause between them. It is tenser, more delicate than Ahsoka is used to with him. Finally, he looks her in the eyes.
“Ahsoka,” Obi-Wan says calmly. “What are you doing here?”
Ahsoka stutters. “I already told you. I needed help with my studies.”
“No you didn’t,” Obi-Wan says. “You knew the answers to everything before I could even give them to you. A talented Jedi you may be, but a liar you are not. Why are you here?”
Ahsoka blushes. “I don’t want you to be alone,” she admits.
He offers her a smile—the kind of smile that betrays melancholy in its curve.
“You are a kind and compassionate young Jedi,” Obi-Wan says. “But I cannot ask you to stay here.”
“Master, I—”
“Go,” Obi-Wan interrupts. “Go back to Anakin before he realizes where you are.”
“But—”
“Go. I will not have you putting yourself in between our petty squabbles.”
Ahsoka stands up. “I’m not a youngling,” she says defiantly. “I can go where I want to go. See who I want to see.”
“You’re still a padawan, like it or not. And you know as well as I do that, to him, it will not matter.”
“But he’s wrong. I mean, I wasn’t happy with what you did either, but it’s been weeks and you’re alive and I think that’s more important.”
“It does not matter who is wrong and who is right. It does not matter what is and is not important,” Obi-Wan says sternly before he softens. “I do not want him feeling betrayed by someone else he loves.”
Ahsoka’s shoulders hunch at the weight of his words.
“Now go to him,” Obi-Wan encourages. “I’ll be alright, Padawan.”
Ahsoka sighs and makes her quiet exit.
She leaves him alone.

I HAD A BRAIN WAVE MOMENT
DO YOU REMEMBER WAYYYY BACK WHEN EVERYONE HATED ASOKA? DAVE DID THAT ON PURPOSE SO HE WAS IN CONTROL OF WHAT PEOPLE HATED ABOUT HER. OK NOW THIS MIGHT BE A LONGSHOT THAT HOPEFULLY DOESN’T END UP LIKE LONGSHOT THE CLONE, BUT, IM HOPING THATS WHATS DAVE IS DOING WITH TBB. BEING IN CONTROL OF WHAT THE FANDOM HATES ABOUT IT AND THEN IMPROVING IT SLOWLY BIT BY BIT.
PLEASE IM DESPERATE FOR A EXPLANATION!
(also where’s my explanation about why the clones are white washed, dave? hmm? where is it dave?)
OMG LOOK.
It wouldnt excuse the whitewashing or the weak scenario, because he got us used to some good stuff now (tcw s7, Mandalorian, that kind of things)
But it would make sense - to a certain extent - to work that season as a "cliché team in a cliché scenario" and see how people react to be able for a second season (if there's a second season) to improve it
_
Disclaimer: I'm a white, abled person so I'm not trying to speak on behalf of poc/disabled people, but I think it's important to support them and listen to the critics they make about SW and it's content
Also this is quite long I got carried away but worth it it is!
I linked some of @rebekadjarin 's post here because I read a bit through her blog today and agreed with her posts; and I invite you to check out the "#whitewhashed tbb" if you want more extanded and developed information about that matter! (As my knowledge on the matter is still quite limited/ incomplete due to my privileges, and this post is more of a summary than a real analysis)
_
So here, we know that the fans are unhappy about:
- the whitewashing of the Bad Batch (especially since they proved they could animate dark skinned people/ more generally poc with the first seasons of tcw, Kanan in Rebels and the Separatist in the latest TBB episode)
It is a real problem and it shouldn't have happened in the first place. Even if they are different, the Batchers are still clones and it's really not that hard to show their enhancement while keeping Temuera's features and skin colour (I mean, look at all the artists who did and do it everyday on this app; no excuse here)
Star Wars has wasted a lot of potential on numerous occasions because they keep doing stuff like this; and it's quite ironic (and very sad) to see that racism, ableism and stereotypes are prevalent in a universe where people fight for equality and peace...
Here and here are two posts about it (if you're the author of these posts and want me to delete them from my post please tell me so; I took the liberty of adding them because I think they highlight quite well the issue and do a clear job at showing the whitewashing in SW/ around the clones)
~
- the way Crosshair is treated; both by the Batchers and the writers, he's manipulated by the chip yet no one is talking about rescuing him and we see nothing about the effect of his absence on the Batchers (they don't mention him, don't try to save him, and Hunter is more distraught by Omega's absence than by his own brother's)
And don't get me wrong, Omega is a kid and she's nice, of course they have to take care of her and protect her
But they also don't know her purpose; why is she here? She could be a bad omen (maybe she doesn't even know it! The Kaminoans probably didn't tell anyone about her real purpose and I stand by the idea that the infos they got about her are all wrong and purposefully misleading) and I have the dark feeling that she will be the end/ death of the Batchers by the end of the serie, even if she didn't wanted it that way
But Crosshair is never mentionned, except for when he's needed in the scenario. Which is a shame, because he's a Batcher too even if he's mind-controlled and (for now) working for the Empire. He's supposed to be a main character, and he's a key element to the plot; yet out of 10 episodes we saw him in only 3, and only the moments where he was acting bad (i'm excluding the lonely moment at the end of ep2 because it had a lot of potential about him fighting the chip but that was all we had and i'm still bitter about it lol)
Here is a post about it
~
- speaking of plot; I feel like it's always the same disk playing since episode 2-3: They have a mission given by Cid, they do it, things go wrong, Omega saves the day and they get the money.
Crosshair is doing bad guy stuff so no need to tall about him (haha right?)
Now. I'm a good public. I know when to activate the Dummie™ in me and enjoy a show about a found family doing crazy jobs for a criminal and raising a newly adopted daughter at the same time. It's fun, it's sweet, sometimes it get emotional and the animation is beautiful (the lights are amazing I am always in awe)
I can enjoy it and be in awe and see Echo sniffing food and Tech smiles and Wrecker playing with Omega and feel happy about it.
But I also expected more. I hadn't any clear idea because I didn't wanted to set expectations (how ironic) but I can't help but feel sad about the wasted potential around Empire! Crosshair and the rise of said Empire.
If you want to antagonize one of the main character, do it, but do it fully and do it well. Show us Crosshair getting really invested in a plan to catch the Batchers and suddenly making a scene for a tiny detail that could blow it up; show us Crosshair and Hunter fighting each other hand to hand after they disarmed each other, and Crosshair getting the upoer hand until something holds him back; just enough for Hunter to take control again
Show us a complex character who suffers but doesn't fully realise it, and show us brothers mourning yet hoping to get the family back again you know?
~
- the way Echo is treated by the Batchers. And as much as it saddens me, they do him dirty in the show.
Echo is a war veteran, an ex- prisoner and a disabled character. He went through a lot; first he lost the Domino squad, then he lost brothers on Kamino (including 99 who was close to his squad), then the Citadel happened and he lost both his legs, an arm, his freedom, his brothers and probably any hope to be saved.
Then they found him in that freezer, and he probably realised that, if Fives wasn't here to save him, it meant he lost him too.
Then he left Rex to go with a team of 4 because he probably didn't feel like he belonged with "regs" anymore; he chose strangers over brothers because he thought he couldn't find his place there. Which in itself is sad and problematic.
And now he's with the Batchers, and they don't seem to grasp the importance of his trauma. I mean; they always had the 4 of them and never lost a brother (apart from Cross; which is another wasted potential here because they could have exploited that trauma and made a parallel with Echo being so used to losing brothers and them experiencing it for the first time on such a personal level you know) and they do some crappy stuff to him.
Selling him as a droid? Not cool.
Brushing off his trauma for a mission and some credits? Not. Cool.
And Echo can't say anything because he chose them, and now he has nowhere to go anyway because Order 66 happened; and he probably doesn't want to be a burden to Rex, and he probably doesn't want to abandon his brothers especially now that Cross is gone and they have a child to take care of
But yeah there are a lot of things happening - or NOT happening - around Echo and his trauma and his disability that are wrong and people are right to talk about it
Here is a post I read and I agree with it
~
- Overall, the way the show and the characters are handled; they often feel very stereotyped/ cliché and the basic plot doesn't really help for character development or improvement
I read a post about it and it was really interesting; they linked the whitewashing of the characters with their abilities/enhencement
Tech and Crosshair are the smartest and the whitest in the group (which is bad)
Wrecker is portrayed as the Bid Dummie™ and he's the one with the "darker" skin and the features closest to Temuera/ Maōri features (also very bad)
Hunter is straight up a Rambo with a face tattoo, and Echo - and you guys know I love him - is whiter than a sheet of paper (all so bad)
Not only this, but there is no improvement in their personality or thinking
They don't seem to evolve, and just like their mission, they end up playing the same song over and over again
Hunter is the broody soldier and though people enjoy talking to him as a Dad (count me in) but he's not a good dad for Omega (he calls her soldier and is always acting awkward and uncomfortable around her)
Wrecker could be a better dad for her; but again they display him as a big dummie and give the impression he couldn't take well care of her
Tech is here to be the smart one, we only see him when they need someone to do the smart speaking and the complicated computer things
Echo is the grumpy reg, the "more droid than man" and sometimes the Mom™ but they never show him talking about the Empire or the trauma or how the I am not Freaking Out™ I did came back for this Shit™ he's just here to... Be here and be grumpy and bring the oldest clone wars fans to watch TBB
And Crosshair is almost non-existent.
Here is another post about it
~
What could it be then?
So either Dave is pulling a Ahsoka on us; but he'll still have a lot of things to correct and explanations to give because I can excuse a bad plot but I draw the line at blatant racism ans ableism (especially when they KNOW the fans and they KNOW what people want and they KNOW it would probably bring more people to enjoy and get invested in the show)
- If he's doing this, he will probably work with the animator to correct the whitewashing (because it really is the only really wrong thing in the animation, the rest of it is quite good to be honest like the light, framing and all)
- Understand that Tbb and Mandalorian are two different shows and cannot be treated the sale way; so he'll get back to the main plot and hopefully work on Crosshair's arc and hos his absence/ him being controlled by the chip affects him/ the Batchers/ their relation
- He'll probably work more on displaying the effect of their trauma; collective and personal, and see how it reflects on their relations (and give Echo the healing he deserves)
- By extension, give the characters more depth and complexity, dig their stereotypical surface and reveal their true nature (show me a ruthless yet easily overwhelmed Hunter; a smart but constantly anxious Tech, a very emotional Wrecker playing the big explosive dummie to protect himself, etc.)
Well, that's what I would do
Or he's just... Doing this and not planning any changes; in which case I'll probably do what I did with SPN s15: stop watching, scroll through tumblr to get some infos and gifs and tell everyone about how dirty they did the characters, and they did us.
~
But I really hope he's hearing us and taking our remarks into account; the show in itself had a lot of potential and I'm still hanging on the thin hope that the ending could "save it"; but I also have no expectations and am in fact waiting for a disappointing ending
On a brighter note, I'm glad the fandom exists because I see artists and writers and gif-makers and theorists and all kind of people creating and sharing their own content, headcanons, art, writing and they all feel right and better than the canon
Like yes, give me a in-character dark skinned clone who deals with his trauma and the sudden changes around him in a realistic way
Tell me about the real effects of the war on soldiers, and the truth behind the corrupted government taking over the galaxy, and the efforts everyone has to make to survive, exist and live together
If Dave and his team cannot do it, I know you guys can and that's why I'm glad to be here too; you give me hope when they fail to do so 💙
~
I hope I like... Answered this correctly? 😂 I got carried away but yeah, though I'm usually not vocal about it and try to enjoy it with my Dummie Energy™ I still see and read about what you all think, and usually I agree with you; the show deserved better and we deserved better
Now back to ignoring the canon and writing a fic about my very much alive and beloved Fives 🥰
