#332nd battalion

sometimes i think about the fact that when order 66 went through ahsoka's battalion coming back from mandalore she had to try and survive murder attempts coming from men who loved her so much they followed her to fight death watch and maul on the other side of the galaxy and who painted her face on their buckets
imagine her having been confronted for days, even weeks maybe, to these men's love for her expressed through paint, only for them to inexplicably start trying to kill her in such an obsessive way that they completely stopped caring about their own survival
they died because they could not stop themselves from trying to kill her while simultanously wearing proudly her face marking on their armours as a symbol of love

If order 66 didn’t happen and Ahsoka spent more time with the 332nd I am convinced she would have snuck into their barracks and repainted their helmets to put their personal symbols back on them. Rex wakes up to his 332nd helmet painted with blue jaig eyes interlocking with the diamond pattern. He turns around to see Jesse grinning over his own bucket. Jesse turns it over and there’s the Republic symbol. Every other clone who had an individualised helmet also reports their symbol magically appeared on their new helmet.

Okay so I'm here with an update! Yeay!
Tumblr media
Just finished my little Shiny helmet, working on 332nd company trooper helmet.
I'm in love with Howzer's helmet to be honest, it was simple but that colour! In love, definitely in love.
I think the next set will be the bad batch or the commandos (commandos are really getting into my head), because right now I'm reading Karen Traviss Republic Commando Order 66 and guys, I have a lot favorite in Star Wars, and the clones are my weak point. But Fi. I can't. I fall in love, I can't get up, screaming, crying, throwing up. I don't care about anyone, I will marry that man.
So yeah, I think Commandos next.

Been playing some Fortnite with @british-hero and @milfcutlawquane (Rogue got me the 501st and 212th skinpack, bless). We have been having fun :)
Bonus under the cut ---

Depending on how you look at it, it's either a good thing that Sponge defected during the Temple March, or a bad thing because Vader would have not lived as long as he had if they'd stayed a little longer...

Order 69
I want a fic about the clone wars where everything is the same, except the Kaminoans had a small miscommunication and told Palpatine the Jedi kill order was Order 69 instead of Order 66. Instead of trying to kill their Jedi COs, the clone are now trying to seduce them and sleep with them.
Fun little musings for a few legions if you would like
212th
“The time has come Commander. Execute Order 69.”
“It will be done my lord.” Cody slips his helmet off. “Hey General.”
Obi-Wan looks around in confusion as Careless Whisper begins to play from an unknown source
The rest of the battalion watch as Cody quite literally sweeps their Jedi General off his feet and carry him back into the base
None of them have seen Kenobi that red in the face
“Do we need to... do anything? About the order I mean?” A shiny asks
“I think the Commander has it covered.” Boil responds
327th
“Execute order 69″
“Kriffing finally” Bly responds before shutting off his com
Palpatine stares at the dark com device for a few moments. That was unexpected
The Separatists are cleaned out in record time on Felucia, almost entirely by Commander Bly himself
Aayla didn’t think she had every seen her commander so driven by anything, it truly was impressive
No one sees Bly or their General for a long time when they finally get back to camp
104th
Plo Koon is not with the 104th when the order goes out
He is also in a star fighter and by the time he gets back to the ground the battalion he is with is panicking because Plo Koon isn’t their regular General and Wolffe would kill them
By the time Plo returns to his men the issue has been resolved
157th (Billaba’s Legion)
“Execute order 69″
Grey put away his com device before walking towards his general where she was currently talking to Caleb and Clone Force 99
“Well shall we let them do what they-oh!”
Grey wrapped an arm around Depa’s waist and dropped her into a dip before kissing her
Caleb and the whole of Clone Force 99 stared at the two making out infront of them with either horror or confusion
Echo clapped his hand over Caleb’s eyes
“I can still sense it”
“Sorry kid”
332nd
Ahsoka was very confused, one minute Rex was looking more panicked than she had ever seen him, now…
Now he had calmed down considerably and had begun... flirting with her?
She was very weirded out because it definitely sounded like flirting, why her brother was flirting with her was beyond her
Then Jesse, ever the womanizer, had strutted into the com bay and she had been truly disturbed
As soon as she could she escaped her weird brothers and went to look up the file Rex had said, one about Fives
She called both Rex and Jesse to her location and prompt whacked them both on the head before getting their chips out
Both were extremely horrified that they had tried to flirt with their sister and apologized a lot
Now that Ahsoka knew what was happening she found it really kriffing funny
They quickly spread the word about the chips to the rest of the GAR
501st
As soon as Anakin, freshly fallen to the dark side, marched into the hangar where his men were waiting he felt like something was different
He led his COs to the com table to go over their strategy to attack the temple and to cover all entrances
Appo siddled close, leaning forward to trap Vader against the com table with both his arms
Vader’s mind short circuited and lets just say that the march on the jedi temple did not happen
Morning After
Cody wakes up with Obi-Wan sleeping on his chest and his com blinking at him from the side of the cot
What the kriff did Rex mean by control chips?

Grand Army of the Republic Structure
So, looking at how the GAR is structured, there would be about 512 battalions total throughout all 10 system armies. (I can go into that later)
We know of (canon) 15.
Let me know if I missed any, here's the list:
21st Nova corp (wait, is that a battalion or a Corp in the structure? idk.) led by Ki-Adi-Mundi and CC Bacara
13th (the Iron Battalion) led by Jaro Tapal and Cal Kestis
41st Scout let by Luminara and/or Yoda, and CC Gree
104th (The Wolfpack) led by Plo Koon and CC Wolffe
187th led by Mace Windu and CC Ponds (I thought they were the 91st?)
612th led by Polla Royal and CC Granch (I'm assuming that's a CC)
Combat Engineer (I don't know either) let by Sergeant Gaffa
212th led by Kenobi and CC Cody
501st led by Skywalker, CT Rex, and Ahsoka Tano
332nd, which is an off shoot of the 501st, lead by CC Rex and Tano
(Carnivore is also a sub group of 501st, but I'm unsure if it is big enough to count as it's own battalion)
442nd, also led by Plo Koon at some point, and CC Verd
327th lead by Aayla Secura and CC Bly
184th led by Jor Aerith and CC Crane (again, guessing if a CC)
Rancor Battalion, lead by Shaak Ti and the Rancor ARC CCs
Coruscant Guard, which has no Jedi and is led mainly by CC Fox
Honorary member, but technically part of 212th, is Clone Force 99, lead by CT Hunter.
So that's roughly 15. Out of 512.
Good thing we fans like to make OC clones.
Also, I AM thinking about making a color chart for known battalions. And since there are so few, including those of OC made battalions too.
If anyone is interested.
Here's the link to the post that started this.

I've decided that Rex is the one who paints Kanan's eye mask with his bird of prey design.
Kanan's feeling pretty low still just after Malachor, he's still distancing himself from everybody, and Rex decides to go try to talk to him at one point and the first thing he comes up with to say is to point out that his new mask is pretty plain. It's awkward, he regrets it immediately, but then Kanan says that it gets the job done and Rex is abruptly reminded of himself so so long ago back at the beginning of the war.
He sits Kanan down and tells him a story about how, at the beginning of the war, only a few of the clones had paint on their armor, to designate things like rank and battalion in order to make it easier for officers to find them in the middle of a busy battlefield. The paint was practical and it was limited to a very select few. But the Jedi almost immediately started trying to encourage the clones to utilize the paint less sparingly, suggesting that maybe everybody could wear at least a LITTLE paint and use more individualized designs so that it was still easy to tell the commanders and captains apart from the others when needed.
Some of the clones had taken to it with gusto, but others had been more hesitant, and Rex remembers having been one of them. He remembers telling Obi-Wan that there was no real REASON to paint everyone's armor and especially not to come up with personal designs. The armor was practical and it served its purpose with or without the paint and special designs. But the Jedi had insisted on at least TRYING to come up with his own design and if he didn't like it, he could always take it off, so Rex had given in and chosen something to paint on the armor. And, somehow, it felt a little lighter the next time he put it on. It didn't erase the horrors of war or the pain of loss or anything like that, but it helped.
He tells Kanan that the mask right now is just a reminder of the pain of the injury and whatever other feelings he's still got all caught up in the Malachor mission (guilt over what happened with Ezra, grief over Ahsoka's loss). But if he puts his own design on it, it might turn the mask into something other than a constant reminder of something bad. Instead, it's a reminder of who he is, the combination of the person he once was and who he's become. He is more than just his injury or this mission and he can use the mask to declare that if he wants to.
Kanan says he never realized Rex and the other clones had cared so deeply about their armor and Rex says that the armor itself was meaningless. It's better than what's being handed out to stormtroopers, but not but a LOT. It was the design on it that had meant something and, more than that, it was what the design REPRESENTED: having a choice about how you were perceived by others.
Kanan asks why Rex had chosen his particular designs, the bird of prey eyes on his helmet in particular. Rex explains that he chose it because he liked birds and thought it looked cool, but he's kept the helmet for as long as he has because it's come to mean something ELSE now. It's not just a cool-looking design, it's a reminder of a better time in his life. It's a reminder of when he'd been a part of something greater than himself, with the other clones and the Jedi. It's a reminder of a time when he'd had hope that he and his people could one day come out the other side of this war towards a brighter future.
Kanan looks at the mask he'd grabbed from storage somewhere or something just to keep light from hurting his eyes as they recovered and to cover up the injury from other people's stares (even if he couldn't see them staring), then hands it to Rex and asks if Rex minds sharing that symbol because he'd like a reminder of that, too. Rex remembers the 332nd and their helmets that they'd painted to look like their chosen Jedi, almost blindly giving away their individuality in favor of that loyalty that had been stripped from them anyway. And then he looks at Kanan, choosing to make himself look LIKE REX, someone who had shared his face with millions once, because he wants to honor both the connections he'd lost as well as this new connection the two of them have built together now. And Rex says he'd be happy to share.

Idea 1 and 2 spawned this, while in turn lead to this :)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Kix wakes up screaming with his first breath.
He's alone so alone where are his brothers?! Why can't he move why can't he breathe why is he cold someone help him!
He's still screaming when he feels hands, the blood pounding through his veins drowning out hushed mando'a until someone clamps a hand over his mouth.
"Breathe vod'ika, you're not alone."
He knows that voice, it's his own but with a slight drawl on the mando'a.
Jesse, it's Jesse he knows Jesse
Jesse is young, younger than when they had first worked together but he knows Jesse. He gasps for air when Jesse moves his hand from his mouth, the ARC holding Kix's face in his hands as he tries to breathe between sobs.
"Focus on me, it's okay it's okay." Kix wants to snap out at his own words being spoken to him, but a second lifetime of being alone in a world where all his brothers had been long dead kept the sobs coming. He can hear there are others nearby, he can feel the warmth of their body heat, hands that rest on his trembling arms and legs for a moment before hurriedly being removed. It feels like hours before Kix stops sobbing, the medic coughing a little when Jesse finally moved back to give him a little bit of space.
There are dozens of brothers when he finally is able to focus on the room around him, some he knows and others he'd never gotten the chance to, but they all share the same look as they take in Kix and each other.
You have another chance, take it for yourselves my children
"We're alive." No one knows who spoke, but they voiced the same thought that ran through their minds. All of them turn to the door suddenly opens, revealing a brother who was just as shocked as everyone else was.
"This isn't a dream?" Kix idly recognizes them as one of the few assigned to Ahsoka's battalion, and before anyone can respond, a shadow falls over the clone.
"Is there any reason you are not in your assigned bunk?"
Oh...oh Sithspit they were back on Kamino.
"Uh, I, I thought this was my room." The trooper pulls off the nervous young clone off well as everyone in the room darts for their beds, having barely enough time to look asleep when the Kaminoan peers into the dark room with a disapproving tut. "It won't happen again."
"It had best not. Off with you, or you will be punished." The future 332nd trooper vanishes as the longneck stares at the room of "sleeping" troopers before shaking their head and closing the door.
"We need to be careful." Jesse spoke a few minutes after tense silence, everyone sitting up and looking over with matching frowns.
"We need to know when we are first." A splicer Kix recognized spoke up, the name Tracer flitting across his mind from another lifetime. "It will do us no good to try and do anything without knowing."
"Then that's the first order." The 501st stood on his bed, looking at the door for a moment before taking in a deep breath and exhaling. "I know it's been too long since we were this young, but we gather intel first before anything else. Go to classes, follow schedule, whatever the longnecks want until I find some of the others."
"We should find the Alpha's, they'll be able to go around without much interference." Someone points out, and there are some nods and murmurs as everyone agrees.
"Good call. Unless the longnecks are not around, we should use the signals to communicate." Jesse cuts in, and there are some more nods before he sighs. "Let's try and get some rest, and feel free to bunk up."
He doesn't need to say it, bunks carefully pushed together as those who found old friends and battalions clung together, and those who had no one as of yet sticking together to feel the life in each other.
---------------
It's five years before the War.
Five years before they're given to Jetti to fight for a Republic that had never cared for them.
Eight years before they're ordered to turn on the Jetti they loved and cared for, paving the rise of an Empire.
The Kaminoans don't seem to notice the difference in their clones, just idly watching as they're put through what should be a normal day of studies and training. They don't see their training bots spliced to ignore absences in classes by the second day, so that brothers could sneak out of sight and have reunions that mostly ended in tears and countless apologies like they'd done after dying before. It felt more raw these reunions, able to feel the steady beating of hearts and the warmth of life as they cling to each other, promises of beskar that this time no one would die.
Is it a useless thought?
No, not this time.
By the end of the first day Rex suddenly appears in one of the few areas that allowed free time, eyes red as he scans the room. Fives is already darting over some tables and chairs to run to his captain, and the two go flying to the floor at the force of his hug. Neither of them knows who is crying more, Rex all but molding Fives to his body as he holds onto the man he'd last held in death, and Fives is so overwhelmed none of his jokes make it past whatever is lodged in his throat.
"Dramatic." No one had seen Wolffe behind the captain, and for the first time it's clear the difference between a generation one and two clone is, with Rex and Wolffe closer to the end of what natborns called "teenagers", while Fives and the others in the room were closer to mid-teen years. Wolffe kneels down beside the duo, and with a comforting hand on Rex's shoulder, the captain lets Fives go with a weak cough. "Come on, we need to get back before we raise suspicion."
"Sir, is Fox alright?" Thorn speaks up, and doesn't miss the way Fives flinches.
"No." Rex and Fives get to their feet, and share a quick hug before Rex steps back, Wolffe watching the way the Corrie's shoulders slump. "Still guilty, but right now we need to look past that."
"I already heard rumors we're going to take Kamino." A trooper from the 327th signs, not daring to speak aloud in case the longnecks were paying attention for once.
Well news travels quick.
"Stay on your toes, and when we strike you'll know." Rex signs, and he can see the men in the room perk at the news, some of them cracking knuckles while others grinned at the fight ahead.
"We need to move." Wolffe hissed, and with a firm nod Rex moves to the door, pausing to look back at the clones staring at the two.
"Stay strong."
He doesn't need to say it, but with emotions running high for everyone, the saying was a lifeline in that moment.
The Kaminoans wouldn't know what hit them soon enough.
