Lu Elementary School AU
Castletown Primary School
School colors are Green, Black, and Gold
Official name is "Castletown Primary Academy" but no one calls it that
The first and second school uniforms each semester are free, but any other uniforms after need to be bought by parents.
Kindergarten through 2nd grade, wear Forest Green Polos and Khaki shorts/pants/skirts. Shorts and skirts must be knee length. There is also an option for a forest green and black plaid dress, also knee length. Other than that, kids can accessorize as they please.
3rd and 4th grade wear white button-up shirts, and have the option between khaki shorts/pants or a forest green and black plaid skirt. Again, all skirts and pants are to the knees. They also have the option between a forest green blazer or sweaters. Ties are optional but must be black. Kids can accessorize as they please.
No uniform day is every Friday, and as long as nothing has profanity or crude images, all pants/skirts/shorts meet the length requirements, and no midriff is showing, all children are allowed to dress as they please. The rules are gender neutral and apply to all children.
Every Thursday is Book Buddy day, where the kids have a library day and read with their buddies. The buddies are from the neighboring high school who apply to the program for extra credit.
Tuesdays are half days
Every third Wednesday, if it's not a holiday, is some sort of field trip.
Clubs are available for the 2nd to 4th graders after school, and an after-school program is in place for kindergarten and 1st grade. They have drama club, art club, multiple sports, and a science club.
Free breakfast and lunch are provided for those that need it

The 10 Most Anticipated TTRPGs For 2024!
EN World's annual vote on the most anticipated titles of the coming year, and yes, some games have appeared on this list in previous years.
Tumblr media
10 Tales of the Valiant (Kobold Press)
1st appearance Kobold Press joins the 'alternate 5E' club with this rewritten, non-OGL version of the game! A million dollar Kickstarter last year, and a new one for the GM's book going on right now, Kobold Press announced this as 'Project Black Flag' during the OGL crisis of 2023, but being unable to trademark that name opted for Tales of the Valiant instead. The system, however, is still called the Black Flag Roleplaying System.
Tumblr media
9. Mothership 1E (Tuesday Night Games)
3rd appearance On this list three years running, the boxed Mothership 1E game should be coming out this year! This is sci-fi horror at its best -- you can play scientists, teamsters, androids, and marines using the d100 'Panic Engine'. Yep, it's Alien(s), pretty much.
Tumblr media
8. Monty Python's Cocurricular Mediaeval Reenactment Program (Exalted Funeral)
2nd Appearance Exalted Funeral made quite a splash when they announced this game last year, which went on to make neary $2M on Kickstarter. And how could they not? It's Monty Python fergoodnessake! A rules-lite gaming system, spam, a minigame with catapults, spam, coconut dice rollers, spam, and an irrepressible Python-eque sense of humour. Did I mention the spam? It was at #10 on this list last year, but it's claimed to #8 this year.
Tumblr media
7. Daggerheart (Darrington Press)
1st appearance From the Critical Role folks, Daggerheart is a new fantasy TTRPG with its own original system coming out this year with "A fresh take on fantasy RPGs, designed for long-term campaign play and rich character progression."
Tumblr media
6. Cohors Cthulhu (Modiphius)
1st appearance It's Ancient Rome. It's Cthulhu. It uses Modiphius' in-house 2d20 System. You can be a gladiator, a centurion, or a Germanic hero. Did I mention Cthulhu?
Tumblr media
5. Dolmenwood (Necrotic Gnome)
1st appearance The British Isles, a ton of folklore, and a giant Kickstarter--Dolmenwood is a dark, whimsical fantasy TTRPG drawing from fairy tales and lets you "journey through tangled woods and mossy bowers, forage for magical mushrooms and herbs, discover rune-carved standing stones and hidden fairy roads, venture into fungal grottoes and forsaken ruins, battle oozing monstrosities, haggle with goblin merchants, and drink tea with fairies."
Tumblr media
4. Pendragon 6E (Chaosium)
4th appearance Last year's winner was on this list waaaaay back in 425 AD, and it's still here! Well, maybe not that far back, but it's shown up in 2021 at #4, 2022 at #3, 2023 at #1, and now 2024 at #4! What can we say? People are clearly anticipating it... still.
Tumblr media
3. 13th Age 2nd Edition (Pelgrane Press)
2nd appearance 13th Age is over a decade old now, and was our most anticipated game way back in 2013. Now the new edition is coming! It's compatible with the original, but revised and with a ton more... stuff! 13th Age 2E was #3 in last year's list!
Tumblr media
2. The Electric State Roleplaying Game (Free League)
1st appearance Free League is always on these lists, and for good reason. This gorgeous looking game is described as "A road trip on the verge of reality in visual artist and author Simon Stålenhag's vision of an apocalyptic alternate 1990s".
Tumblr media
1. Shadow of the Weird Wizard (Schwalb Entertainment)
3rd appearance First announced by Rob Schwalb a couple of years ago, this is a more family-friendly version of his acclaimed RPG, Shadow of the Demon Lord. SHADOW OF THE WEIRD WIZARD is a fantasy roleplaying game in which you and your friends assume the roles of characters who explore the borderlands and make them safe for the refugees escaping the doom that has befallen the old country. Unsafe are these lands: the Weird Wizard released monsters to roam the countryside, cruel faeries haunt the shadows, undead drag themselves free from their tombs, and old, ancient evils stir once more. If the displaced people would rebuild their lives, they need heroes to protect them. Finally at the top of the list after being #7 in 2022, and #6 in 2023!

Bella's Book Club FAQ 🍎🌲📚
What is Bella's Book Club?
Bella's Book Club, (sometimes abbreviated to "BBC"), is an interactive virtual book club created by the Three Books One Plot podcast. Each month, participants read a selected book from the list of Bella Swan’s (really Stephenie Meyer’s) favorite books and authors as it appears in Chapter 13 of Midnight Sun, then come together to discuss it on Discord and other social media.
Where can I find Bella's Book Club?
We post most of our important information here on our Tumblr, as well as in the #announcements channel of our Discord. You can also follow along on our Goodreads and Storygraph (mainly used to keep track of past and present books we’ve read/are reading.)
Who can join Bella's Book Club?
BBC is open to anyone! You do not have to have participated in previous discussions, or even be a listener of the 3B1P podcast (though we’d love that, of course.) All we ask is that you be prepared to encounter mature themes and situations in some of our books (and discussions.)
How do I participate in Bella's Book Club?
BBC is designed to let you choose the level of participation you’re comfortable with. Most of the action (and fun) happens over on our Discord, during our monthly real-time discussions, but you're also welcome to share your thoughts or fanworks on a book by tagging us on tumblr or sending an ask/submission. We also sometimes post challenges, ask/tag games, and “scavenger hunts” to go along with our book of the month, and encourage each other to get creative. Past BBCers have made moodboards, fanbinds, playlists, shitposts, written fic and parodies, done scientific research, and even recreated recipes from the books we’ve read! The pressure is totally off, though—you’re welcome to read along and lurk from the cozy corner of your choice.
Who runs Bella's Book Club?
BBC is run primarily by bookworm nerds M (@gashousegables) and G (@volturialice) with occasional help from Shannon (@flowerslut).
M (she/they) is an Australian book nerd with librarian aspirations. From Animorphs to a Smeyer-adjacent Dragon girl phase, she's also the weeaboo in residence for the book club. When not feverishly promoting their Virtual Best Friend known as the Libby App they are swallowing pulpy Romances and mandatory sociological theory.
Favorite books: Imagica, the Locked Tomb series, Friday's Child, Picnic at Hanging Rock
G (she/her) is an American book nerd who grew up devouring like 3 high fantasy doorstoppers a week and considered the Scholastic Book Fair a national holiday. She enjoys reading gory Jacobean/Elizabethan tragedies for fun and has worked in Shakespeare education when she’s not stanning her local library.
Favorite books: Annihilation, The Bloody Chamber, the Locked Tomb series, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell
Shannon (she/her) is an American jock who read oodles of fic but thought books were mainly good for propping up wobbly tables until she had her own Reading Renaissance in 2022. Now she's on a quest to discover new favorites by seeking out recs and devouring every book in sight!
Favorite books: We Have Always Lived in the Castle, the Locked Tomb series, The Vanishing Half
When is Bella's Book Club?
This year, Bella's Book Club runs September 2023 through June 2024, followed by a break for our summer reading challenge. Books are announced one month in advance, and discussions take place once a month on Monday nights at 8 PM EST (Tuesday mornings at 11 AM AEST) during 3B1P’s off weeks. In the event of a postponement, we announce it on Tumblr and Discord.
The current discussion dates for 2023-4 are:
October 2nd
October 30th
November 27th
December 26th (Tuesday!)
January 22nd
February 19th
March 18th
April 15th
May 13th
June 10th
Nominations/recs for the 2024 Summer Reading Challenge will open May 20th.
Do you do movie nights?
Yes! We sometimes take a break from reading to host Bella's Movie Club. Many of the books we read have been adapted for film and TV (and when no adaptation is available, we often watch a thematically similar movie.) We host movie nights on our Discord, scheduled according to demand and availability. We usually announce movie nights on Tumblr and Discord a week or so in advance, and schedule them on weekend nights (US)/weekend or Monday mornings (Australia) to accommodate the max number of time zones. If you’ve never watched a movie on Discord before, it’s super easy—anyone who wants to watch joins in via our voice channel, mutes themself (if you don’t know how to do this, the mods can do it for you), and then chats (mostly jokes) in real time via the #movie-discussion channel. It’s a rollicking time.
What books have you read in the past?
For our Season 1 (Twilight) lineup we read Jane Eyre, The Princess Bride, Sense and Sensibility, Tooth and Claw, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Little Women, and Northanger Abbey.
What’s the BBC Summer Reading Challenge?
The Bella's Book Club Summer Reading Challenge is our yearly summer break activity, designed to coincide with 3B1P’s hiatuses. Phase 1 of the challenge involves recommending up to 5 books through a Google form. In Phase 2, everyone’s recs are compiled into a list. Readers then choose 5 books from the list to read (and, optionally, review) during the summer months! You can find last year’s list here (and reccer spotlights here.)
Why are the books on your list Like That?
The list we’re pulling from was made by a white Mormon woman for her Not Like Other Girls YA protagonist. (We’ve found that Stephenie Meyer’s taste in books varies from “a quality classic but uninspired as a rec” to “this is actually a pretty cool deep cut.”) But don’t let that put you off too hard—we love reading through a more intersectional lens and Queering The Narrative, for example! We also take summers off to read each other’s book recommendations, which can be of any genre and include more diverse characters and authors. Even when choosing our lineup of monthly books, we try to schedule so that we end up with diversity of genre, era, style, and subject matter if nothing else.

Week 1: Burns, Clubs, and Animals
G’day everyone!
It's been a whole week in this beautiful city and time has never moved so sweetly slow. We finally moved into the Airbnb we’ve booked for the first month (we still don’t have a place after that). It was bittersweet leaving the 6 person dorm-style hostel room, the already cramped room wasn’t made better with our 5 months’ worth of luggage. The looks on our hostel roommates' faces when we blundered in on the first day said it all. Everyone we lived with in the room was at the very least kind and kept to themselves but were usually eager to meet us and share where they'd been.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The left photo is the inside of our dorm room and the right photo is the view from our Airbnb looking over the valley that empties into Coogee Beach.
The Australian sun has a special amount of power that I had drastically underestimated. During our UNSW abroad summer term orientation, one of the presenters flat-out declared "most if not all imported sunscreens are not going to cut it"…
Tumblr media
But anyway, every day has been different! After our orientation on Tuesday, Jan 2nd, we explored the surrounding streets of Randwick. Committed to trying new foods, “Korean Street Food” caught our eye, and we ordered the potato tornado with chicken salt. It was one of the tastiest savory snacks I’ve tried.
Tumblr media
Here’s Joe posing with it
The next day we went snorkeling in Clovelly Cove, a naturally protected hotspot of sting rays, schools of fish, and BLUEY, the friendly neighborhood Grouper known in the area for dwelling under a specific shelf of rock. We dove with recently purchased gear and my friend Jack let me use his underwater camera to take some videos, diving down to get near the beautiful variety of organisms. I haven’t gotten the videos back yet but hopefully, I can share some screenshots of good frames at some point in a future post.
That night Joe, our new roommates: Vivian, Sam, Michelle, and I played a quick round of classic 3 vs 2 ping pong before booking an Uber into the heart of Sydney for “Sheaf Wednesday”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The next couple of nights were “Ivy Thursdays”  and then a “Fun Friday” night of our own invention. We strolled around an artsy district of Sydney called Newtown, accidentally spending hours in this sprawling park. We also encountered… "wait is that a Baby Kangaroo”!?!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sadly no, this was a Brushtail Opossum, still gave us a massive fright
Speaking of animals, this week has been filled with birds, bugs, and who knows what that has left us all floored. Here are some of the highlights:
Tumblr media
“Bin Chickens” - because of how they use their beaks to rummage through the “bins”
Tumblr media
Hordes of bats swooping over UNSW's campus around dusk
I hope you enjoyed the blog!
Take care everyone and until next week.

Netherlands, Feb 2023 - Day 1 of 4
While at work on Thursday 2nd of February, it dawned on me that once I was finished for the day, I wouldn’t have any work until Tuesday afternoon and I decided to head over to Amsterdam as I had never been and it sounded like a better idea than rotting on the sofa (my usual time off activity).
So I booked my coaches, hostel, and museum tickets and rushed home to pack.
Coach: Searched using Rome2Rio, taken through to Omio, which booked a Megabus outward and a BlaBlaCar Bus return. Total cost £66.67.
The coach was a mistake. Apparently I was not the only person who decided Thursday night was the best time to travel. The coach I was booked onto didn’t actually exist/arrive, so the driver of another coach was told to take us. So we all squished into a bus. I had a chatty seat neighbour who snored. Dull.
We took the ferry, rather than the tunnel, and had a brief stop in France and Belgium. Eventually making it to Amsterdam just after 11am local time Friday morning. We were only an hour late!
Hopped on a train from Amsterdam Sloterdijk to Amsterdam Centraal for €3.60 (£3.22)
Breakfast was the first order of the day, though by then it was slowly becoming a Lunch. I half wandered towards my hostel while perusing the options. I knew I desperately wanted pancakes, but so did everyone else as most pancake places were busy. Some even had queues out the door, which my stomach was not prepared for.
I managed to find Madame Pancake, busy but without a queue.
Tumblr media
€18.20 (£16.30) for Bacon + Chorizo Pancakes and an Iced Oat Vanilla Latte.
The lack of queue did not mean lack of quality as it was delicious and just what I needed. Satisfied and happy, I headed to the hostel for a drink before checking in.
Hostel: Durty Nelly’s Inn. £143 for a bunk in a mixed 10 bed dorm for 3 nights. Official Website | Booking.com
Obviously, I had to have a pint of Kilkenny Cream.
Tumblr media
I drink slowly so by the time the glass was empty, check in was open (1400). The receptionist was super friendly and helpful. (As were the bar staff)
Room was clean and (as a green lover) nicely decorated. I had the bottom bunk so I could drunkenly stumble into bed without risking death. I had a lockable (with padlock) wire tray underneath that wheeled out.
After a much needed nap, I went out for an explore in search of cocktails. Finding a good cocktail bar is always a priority when I travel solo. Lucky for me, I found one in no time.
Tumblr media
Dutch Courage: prices ranged from €8 - €10.50 for the different cocktails.
I had to have the one called a Van Gogh, inspired by his sunflower series, as I was having a Van Gogh heavy weekend. The bartenders had great recommendations, and were really happy to chat and were asking me about my trip.
After a few (several…) I caught a train off to Leiden, a city about 25min from Amsterdam Noid, for €22.20 (£19.88) return, to meet a friend who works nearby.
Tumblr media
We went to a strange bar in a disused warehouse building to meet some of his coworkers. After it closed, we sort of ambled around trying to find a club. The club scene is not poppin, as they say, in Leiden. I was back in the hostel by about 2am.

Productive Things to Do Instead of Being on Social Media
Tuesday, 6/27/2023 - 5:00 PM
Letting go of social media is hard, especially when it has been ingrained in every aspect of your life. You may be asking, what do I do now?
Tumblr media
Taking the time away from social media allows you to explore things about yourself in a way that you haven't before. The first thing to do, is making a list for yourself. Write down your interests, hobbies, likes, and dislikes. Write down things you've done before and things you haven't done before. Then make a plan, try to do something on your list at least once or twice a week. It can be as small as going for a walk or doing a picnic. If you need some inspiration, here is a list of things that you can do:
Create a vision board of all the things you want to call into your life
Learn a new language
Do a deep breathing exercise
Read a book
Free write
Make a gratitude list
Volunteer
Join a book club
Mini Roadtrip
There is a variety of things to do beyond social media. You just need to take the initiative to do something. If you would like some accountability and take the first step to detox social media, join our Social Media Detox Challenge!!
Tumblr media
Take some time each day, up to Saturday, July 1st, away from social media! Do something that you written down, or from the list above! You can share what you have done on our IG and TikTok pages @aeudt Make sure to include the hashtag #AEUDTdetox
Those who participate in this challenge will have a chance to win a 4 night trip with Getaway House! This will allow you to take some time to disconnect, spend time alone, or with a loved one!
We will contact the winner on Sunday, July 2nd!
Here are some useful links to come up with ideas to do something new:

COUCH TOUR: LEW TABACKIN with Jeremy Pelt, Boris Kozlov, and Jason Tieman, SMALL’S JAZZ CLUB, 21 MARCH 2023, 2nd Set
ALMOST COUCH TOUR: JEREMY PELT with Jeb Patton and Conway Campbell, 10 MARCH 2023, 2nd set
The addition of JEREMY PELT to LEW TABACKIN’s working trio made that gig Tuesday even more appealing. I had seen Tabackin earlier in the season with curiosity about how he handles the tenor (and flute)/bass/drums trio and to see if I missed anything by not paying attention to the Akiyoshi/Tabackin Big Band that was around when I was coming into the music and not interested in big bands. He is a melodic not chordal playing and, it strikes me now, that is related to an arrangements/big band sense even in the trio. His solos have that kind of construction. When I saw them before Boris Kozolov was the band’s glue as such bassists usually are. This time he was lower in the mix and Jason Tieman was the one who sparkled with just the right seasoning.
Jeremy Pelt gets my vote for the working trumpeter of his generations (Josh Evans and Giveton Gelin are a generation younger and, in Gelin’s case, it may be two though they share a deep knowledge of tunes and a rich melodic sense), so I wanted to see him in such a pianoless band. He has played a Mezzrow’s gig with bass and drums though, but he, like Tabackin, is a melodist. Tabackin’s tunes are tricky and thoughtful and there were raucous conversations—as in the opener and the four way free for all that settled into Monk’s Dream (everyone picks a Monk tune, a key, and a tempo with the tune as an end point). This isn’t Ornette/Cherry, but it’s also not Mulligan/Baker either. Pelt illuminated the proceedings in that I think I understand Tabackin better—for wanting to play with him and that they share an approach. And I saw another facet of Pelt—not his Mezzrow’s ballad sets nor with Wayne Escoffery/Victor Gould/Vicente Archer in the Black Arts Jazz Collective. And they closed conversationally with Ask Me Now right after Monk’s Dreams.
JEREMY PELT’s late night trio date from two weeks before became all the more compelling as a point of comparison with the Tabackin set. I had to abort the first set which had Just Friends as the opener. But there were pauses and glitches, so I returned a night later for the second set. He’d had a Christmas run with Jeb Patton one night, Bruce Barth the other, with Vicente Archer holding things together. I was glad to see Barth but Patton seems to be the regular and he was impressive in December. He was great again but stately, fluid, and supportive until the fractalized How High the Moon which came together in the last chorus. That was the cooker. The opener was slinky but Pelt was more aggressive and higher registered than he settled into. Still it was a moderate tune as they all were—a What is This Thing Called Love contrafact, a Henry Mancini tune, and a song that Engelbert Humperdinck sang but Sonny Rollins covered. All reflected Pelt’s command of the reaches of the book but also a capacity to find riches in unlikely places. Vicente Archer wasn’t there that night but young Conway Campbell served with big insinuating lines. He will be a force.
Jeremy Pelt already is a force, one I try not to miss.
