This will likely just be a vent blog bc I don't really have any other anonymous corner of the internet to talk about this. And there isn't really much of this sort of content here that I have been able to find so far.

In August, at 27 years old, I learned that the man who raised me was likely not my biological father. In September, it was confirmed via Ancestry DNA that he is not my biological father, my brother, with whom I was raised, is actually my half-brother, and I have 3 other half-siblings through my biological father.

Yesterday was thanksgiving in the US. I happen to have COVID this week and also recently NC with my toxic family so this holiday was already weird. But then.

I never knew who my biological father was. Earlier this year I had done a 23&Me to see if I could find anything out about my heritage or whatever. I ended up finding a first cousin from my paternal side but she had no idea of all her uncles. Until yesterday.

While visiting her father’s family, we found out that she had an uncle she didn’t know much about, and through a quick back-and-forth confirmation, we determined that he is my actual birth father. I also discovered that I had younger siblings I never knew about. It’s been…bizarre to say the least.

I’m not trying to replace my other family with this new one. I’m in my 30s, my true family is my friends. Found family will always be closer and better than my blood family. But I won’t deny that I’m excited about this prospect of learning more about this side of the blood family I never knew about, and I’m hoping that maybe at least some of them I could develop something akin to an actual relationship with. I don’t care about a relationship with my father. He’s never been in my life and I don’t need him. But some cousins sound nice. Maybe even a grandparent. And maybe, one day, my siblings.
