The room is dark. It is some sort of dungeon, lit solely by a line of torches on my right-hand side. I can’t even see the far wall.
My body shivered, and at that moment I realized I was naked. It’s cold, but not uncomfortably so. The torches radiate, casting faint waves of heat and light onto my exposed skin.
“Hello?”
I called out but received no response. I started to worry. There was nothing around. What was happening? But that was when I saw him. He walked toward me, slowly, faintly illuminated in the dark. The slow taps of his footsteps were the only thing I could hear. He got closer, and closer, and closer, until we were almost touching.
He put his hand on my side, sending a shiver racing up my spine. He moved his head close, as if to kiss me, but then paused right before finishing the job. He looked at me with that awful, sarcastic smile. The one that has bothered me all year. And then, he asked me a question. Gently, but playfully, Sirius asked:
“Are you ready?”
“Y/N?”
“Y/N!!!”
The voice of my best friend Rachel jolts me awake.
“Huh?” I sigh groggily as I return to the land of the living. “What’s up?”
“Class is over sleepyhead! I know how much you hate History of Magic, but you’ll never pass your exams like that!”
“You’re right, you’re right. Wow, I can’t believe I fell asleep again!” And she is right. My work has been going steadily downhill these last few months. I can’t sleep at night, and I keep forgetting to eat. And those dreams certainly don’t help. Those dreams… they mean nothing, of course. Sirius is a prick. So arrogant, so vain, so… confusing…
“Hello? Did I lose you again?”
“Sorry, sorry.” You focus on Rachel. “You know I haven’t been sleeping well. I guess I’m just a little out of it today.”
“I can’t believe you, girl. You gotta get your head in the game! Now listen, are you coming down to my place this summer? We have Quidditch tickets, it’s gonna be so much fun!”
“Oh yeah, sure! I don’t think my parents will mind.”
We continued our conversation as we moved to our last class of the day: flying. The one I’ve dreaded going to for weeks.
We arrived at a commotion. “There he goes again,” Rachel sighed.
Of course, it’s James. He’s a natural on the broom and takes every opportunity to show it. Right now he’s doing some stupid stunt to get someone’s attention, probably Lily’s. I don’t have any problems with him, but what I do have a problem with is who he hangs out with.
At that instant, my gaze finds him. Off to the sides, cheering James on with all he’s got. Sirius Black. He’s jumping up and down, yelling, clearly very happy with whatever James is up to. He tries to get up on his broom too, but Remus grabs him and holds him down. As they are fighting for the broom, he turns this way. Our eyes meet, and he smiles.
I quickly turn my head back to face Rachel, a blush spreading across my cheeks. That smile. I can’t stand that smile. I hope he doesn’t think I was watching him. I only saw him at all because of what James was doing. Really, he’s the farthest thing from my mi…
“Hey girls.” My thoughts are interrupted by a voice right in front of me. I look up, and I see Sirius, with Remus tagging close behind. “Enjoying the show?” He laughs with that trademark grin.
“As if,” I retort. “You guys are such idiots. James is gonna get himself killed someday, and it’s gonna be your fault.”
“Come on, Y/N! You gotta learn to have some fun.” Sirius smirks and you feel the confusing mix of emotions bubble up once again.
“I love fun! I just have responsibilities and things I care about that have to take priority! Come on Remus, back me up!”
Remus shrugs sheepishly. “Hey, don’t look at me. I’m outnumbered.”
Sirius chuckles. “Guess the fun continues.”
“ARRGH!” I exclaim in frustration. “You are so infuriating sometimes.”
“Maybe,” Sirius replies. “Or maybe, I just need to show you how to loosen up.”
Before his words can get my mind racing, I hear a whistle. The professor has arrived, and she looks frustrated.
Sirius sighs. “Looks like the fun is over for now. Guess we should get to work and all that.” He turns back to me, and with a hint of mischief in his eyes, he asks me a question.
“Are you ready?”
At that moment, I lost all of my composure. I turn around and dash away before anyone can say anything. As I run, I can hear Rachel yelling after me. I don’t care. I need to get out of there. I’ve heard those words before, so many times.
Every.
Single.
Night.
I run, and run, and don’t stop. I have no idea where I’m going, and it doesn’t even matter. I just need to get away.
Eventually, I find an empty staircase. I collapse at its base, exhausted. My mind is spiraling, my thoughts are playing tug-of-war. I can barely think. At that moment, I feel a hand on my shoulder.
“Hey, are you okay?”
It’s Sirius. But something’s different. The usual sarcasm is gone, replaced with something I don’t recognize. It’s almost as if he’s genuinely concerned. Usually, this question would annoy me, but for some reason, his presence helps me relax.
“I’m fine, just needed some air.”
And as quick as it had gone his smirk returned. “Good, good. Just making sure all that fun earlier wasn’t too much for you.”
“You are so annoying,” I snap back with a slight grin. “I don’t know what you think of me, but I’m stronger than you’d expect.”
He sits down next to me. “I don’t know, I still think you could do to loosen up.”
I groan. “Oh, and I suppose you and your friends can help with that?”
“I don’t know about those guys, but I have a few ideas.” He pauses, as if thinking of something. Then he grins. “You know what? You’re already skipping class. Come with me.”
Without giving me any time to wait, he starts walking. My legs move on their own. It’s not like I want to follow him, but I can’t deny I’m curious as to what he’s up to. We pass through corridor after corridor, hallway after hallway, walking through Hogwarts’ endless sea of passages. Eventually, we reach a statue of an old hag with one eye.
“Dissendium,” Sirius whispers, and the statue moves aside. “What in the world?” I mutter as we walk into the newly-opened room.
“You like this?” Sirius chuckles. “This path leads all the way to Hogsmeade. Only a few students know about it, plus probably some of the teachers.”
“It’s incredible!” It truly was. After so many years here, I thought I had seen all that Hogwarts had to offer. It was enough to distract me from who I was here with.
“Well, then it can be our little secret.” Sirius pauses as we round the corner into a wider room. “Hey, Y/N…?”
I’m so engrossed in my surroundings that I didn’t notice Sirius had stopped walking. We were now mere inches apart.
“Uh, what’s up?”
The smile appears once again. “You were watching me in class today, weren’t you? In fact, I feel like I see you watching me a lot.”
The blood rushes to my cheeks. It is at this moment I realize how close we are, and that our surroundings are eerily similar to the ones from my dreams. I stutter out a response.
“W-well I don’t remember that! If anything you were just distracting me, you’re always so loud and annoying! It’s always so hard to concentrate-”
He puts a finger to my lips, quieting me. His smile grows wider. “I thought so. What were we talking about earlier? Loosening up? I say we get back to that idea.”
I’m shaking, I can feel goosebumps across my arms and legs. “W-what do you mean?” I barely have the time to get the words out before he whips out his wand.
“Evanesco! Incarcerous!”
With the first cast, my clothes disappear. Before I even have time to react, I fly against the wall, bound by ropes. I am suspended in the air, arms and legs apart, completely exposed to the elements. I can barely make a sound as I wait with bated breath for him to approach.
He tilts his head to the left and looks me in the eyes. “Cat got your tongue?”
I still can’t speak. He gets closer and closer. My mind is so confused, torn by the conflicting feelings brought about by the man in front of me. As he reaches me, he says three simple words. Three words that I have been unknowingly waiting so long to hear.
“Are you ready?”
Those words focus my thoughts. They calm the storm inside me enough to utter a response:
“Yes.”
With that, he smiles even wider. He leans in and kisses me. It starts slowly but quickly becomes passionate. His tongue explores my mouth as I give in to the sensations. I have very little experience, but he doesn’t seem to mind. My lips are on fire, and my entire body starts tingling. I’ve never felt like this before. All previous worries start fading away into our embrace.
He continues with vigor until after some time he breaks away. He gives me no time to rest, as his lips start attacking the rest of my body. He starts with my cheeks, then moves down to my neck. I let out a moan as he sucks on my eager skin. I try to hold it in, but the sound of my pleasure gives him even more determination. He moves down to my breasts, kissing and sucking on one while his right hand plays with the other. He kneads my soft flesh while continuing to explore with his lips. His fingers dance around, causing shivers to run across my entire body. He lightly pinches my nipple, sending surges of ecstasy across me.
“I’ve never felt like this before,” I say softly while he continues his pursuits.
He leans back, looking me in the eyes. That smile, so different from how it was before. “Are you ready?” he asks. This time, I am ready. I want him. I need him.
“Yes.”
Without a second’s pause, he dives down to my lower lips. I was already so wet from his teasing, I couldn’t bear to remain silent any longer.
“Oh Merlin, yes!” I let out a cry as he continues to devour me. He moves back and forth, making sure to pay attention to every last part of me. His tongue darts around, focusing especially on my clit. It’s a sensation I’ve never experienced before, and I never want it to end. I can feel an orgasm building as he licks and sucks my dripping pussy. Finally, as his tongue lashes deep inside of me, I cross the edge. The climax is so intense, if I wasn’t tied up I would have collapsed to the ground. Shockwaves emanate throughout my entire body, waves of pleasure that just don’t stop.
As I begin to come down off the high, Sirius laughs. “I hope you’re ready, because we’re not done yet.”
Before I have the chance to say anything, he traps me in a kiss and starts rubbing my clit with his fingers. After a few seconds, he plunges a finger deep inside of me. I gasp into his mouth, but he gives me no time to react. He inserts a second finger and starts moving.
The thrusts of his fingers rock my aching hole, sending more and more energy coursing through me. He then inserts a third finger, and with his other hand begins squeezing my breasts once again. My lips, my breasts, my pussy. Everything is on fire as the motions get more and more intense.
He starts pounding me with one hand while grasping deep clumps of flesh with the other. I can’t take it anymore. With one last thrust of his fingers, I climax once again. I go limp in his arms as he separates himself from me.
“I’ll give you a moment,” he jokes, as he casts off his own clothing. It’s almost elegant, as if he’d done it a thousand times before. I can’t admire his spellwork, however, because my attention is drawn elsewhere.
I can see his cock, illuminated under the torchlight. It’s large, so much bigger than I expected. It’s hard, throbbing, and violent. It scares me, and yet fills me with lust. I want it. I NEED it.
He walks up to me, lean yet muscular, his body in full display. He grabs my sides, once again triggering my deepest desires. He then says the words again:
“Are you ready?”
This time, I say it with confidence and desire.
“Yes.”
He grins. “There you go, finally loosening up. You’re such a good girl.”
I love the idea of being his good girl. I want him so bad, I can barely take it.
“Please,” I panted. “Fuck me.”
With that, he forces himself deep into my folds, his thick member poking against my deepest parts. He pauses for a second, to make sure I’m comfortable, before he starts his barrage at my insides. He goes in and out as I moan and beg for more. His pulsating shaft makes quick, fast thrusts, each one seemingly reaching deeper and deeper.
“You feel so good,” he says, and as he does I tighten around him. His words make me so horny. I just want more of him.
He continues his assault with his huge rod as I give myself up to the pleasure. I become a mess of feelings and emotions, no longer myself but a slave to the bliss.
“Oh, yes!” I exclaim. “Please, I need more. Deeper, faster! It feels so good!”
He does nothing but grunt as he obliges my request, increasing his already fast thrusting to an impossibly quick tempo. Each lunge fills me with heat, building upon the pleasure that just keeps growing. My mind is empty, all I can think about is his cock. As he keeps going, I get closer and closer to another orgasm. I can’t take it anymore.
With one last thrust, I have my most powerful climax yet. As I contract around his shaft, he finishes too, pumping large amounts of his seed inside of me. As he steps back, I lay limp, still tied up on the wall. Only now with my sweat mixed with his and his cum dripping down my legs.
With a quick spell, he cleans us both up, even getting all of his semen that had gotten in me. Once again, his spellwork impresses me even in my post-coital stupor.
“Oh, I should probably let you down,” he says with a smirk. As he removes the ropes and returns my clothes, I sink to the floor with a sigh, legs quivering, realizing I won’t be able to stand for a week.
As I pant on the ground, sweaty and tired, Sirius walks over and gives me a surprisingly gentle kiss on the forehead.
“See you tomorrow, Y/N,” he says as the smirk returns one last time. “Hope that helped you loosen up a bit. We should do it again sometime.”
With that, he apparates away. As I catch my breath, I realize I have no idea how to get back to my bed.
“What an asshole,” I chuckle as I start my trip back. After about an hour of mindless wandering, I’m able to find the common room. As I get back into bed, I know I’m going to sleep well that night. Maybe Sirius was right, and I did need to loosen up. And maybe, I’ll have to talk to him tomorrow. I mean, he might have some more to teach me. I’m always happy to learn new things. It can’t hurt to ask. Yeah. Good plan. Tomorrow…

Heavy self projecting onto Logan because I finally got a diagnosis on why my ears are messed up?
Probably should of written more but oh well.
CW- being in pain and description but not very detailed, brief mention of surgery but barely there, medical talk
“Ears again?” Leo asked Logan. The smaller boy was sat hunched over on the couch pressing orange earplugs so hard into his ear his hands were shaking.
“Mm hm.” He hummed and nodded his head.
Logan had always had ear pains. He probably started getting them when he was 8. Ringing, feels like he always has an ear infection, and very minor undiagnosed hearing problems.
His parents had never gotten it checked out properly, chalking it up to the family’s bad genetics and him just being a loud talker.
A few weeks ago Leo and Finn had finally convinced him to go get it checked out.
TMJ which stands for some fancy long word Logan couldn’t pronounce let alone remember what it’s called.
Basically he go hit when he was younger and messed up his jaw.
It explained a lot actually. How his jaw popped when he opened his mouth wide, why it hurt to chew gum, how Leo and Finn always teased him because his mouth moved to the side when he opened his mouth.
He still didn’t understand how it made his ears hurt, all he knew is that when the doctor stuck his fingers in Logan’s ear and told him to open his mouth it hurt like hell.
There’s no cure for it. All he can do is eat small bites, stop chewing gum, put ice on it, and down ibuprofen whenever it hurt.
Pressure help his ears, downside he couldn’t open his mouth without it hurting. Even steeper downside, his jaw can get locked easier when his ears are plugged so he has to open his jaw every few minutes.
“Here.” Finn handed him an ice pack.
“Thanks. Ow.” His jaw popped loudly when he tried to smile.
“You’re going to hurt your ears if you put too much pressure on them.” Leo walked over and climbed onto the couch behind him so he could massage his temples.
Logan just shrugged and pushed the neon orange earplugs in further.
“Neon orange earplugs have the same energy as a kid named Tyler,” Finn remarked.
“What the fuck baby?” Logan groaned with a small smile.
“Why does that make sense?” Leo laughed.
“Cause it does.”
+++
Logan cried out in pain as Sirius’s elbow came in contact with his jaw. He nearly lost his balance as he skated over to the bench, cradling the right side of his face.
“Fuck I’m so sorry.” Sirius apologized.
“It’s fine. It was an accident.” Logan shrugged it off as he pressed the ice pack Remus had handed him onto his jaw. His words were slurred and muffled from barley moving his mouth.
“You’re gonna lock your jaw Tremz.” Remus reminded him. “You should probably open it a few times.”
His eyes grew watery and pain throbbed in his ears as his jaw made an awful gritting sound as he opened it.
“Damn.” Dumo cringed at the sound. “Ow.” Logan pressed the ice pack harder.
“Can’t you get surgery for it?” Kasey asked.
“Yeah but if I get hit it’ll knock the plate out and make it ten times worse.”

In one of the few sunny and warm mornings left of the season, (Y/N)’s mother had dragged her to Diagon Alley to buy her school’s supplies. The term for her sixth year was about ten days away from starting and going there didn’t thrill her anymore. She had retarded the visit as long as her mother’s patience lasted (which wasn’t a lot considering the woman had belonged to Hufflepuff), and no one had been succesfull on finding the reason, althought her mum suspected it.
(Y/N) hadn’t felt the rush of excitement run through her body in a long time when she thought about going back to Hogwarts, and buying supplies meant she was only a step closer. Her first two years were more than she could ever ask for, but everything came crashing down on her at the young age of thirteen.
(Y/N) had started to notice the repulsive look on people’s faces whenever she tried to help them, all looking down at her green robes as if she had grown a third arm or a second head overnight. She realised, with now a heavy weight on her heart and a new insecurity over her mind, that not all Hufflepuffs were kind and inviting. Maybe, she supposed, they were too proud to accept help from anyone else.
Or perhaps, (Y/N) was too naive to think she could defy centuries of old stereotypes and unhealthy competitions while wearing a green and silver tie.
But the rude comments and weird stares had not affected her in such a long time. She didn’t show them how angry she got about those and how much she wanted to scream at those Gryffindors to get over themselves, because if she did, she was proving their point. All snakes, young or old, end up being violent creatures. Instead, a new feeling of uneasiness had settled in her mind, washing away her minor problems.
Peace no longer reigned over the Wizarding World. Rumors of a war were spreading like wildfire. Voldemort’s ranks got bigger and bigger with the passing time, and more muggle families and muggleborns were being wiped out, like they meant nothing. In those dark times, not having magic or being from a family with the wrong kind of ancestors, could determine your doom.
In her case, she wasn’t at the top of the Dark Eater’s food chain as a halfblood, but that didn’t ease her nerves. She was more worried about her father, a muggleborn, her grandparents and several other friends. Many of their families wanted to go into hiding and she knew that this year and the others to come, Hogwarts wouldn’t be so magical.
Once they passed through the brick wall at the Leaky Cauldron,  their first stop was the Apothecary, which (Y/N) had refused to enter because of the disgusting smell of bad eggs and something more repulsive she didn’t identify. Instead, she decided to visit Quality Quidditch Supplies. It’s not like she played the sport, Merlin knows how awful she was at throwing or hitting things, and playing as Seeker was not an option. But she always attended the matches, channelling every single piece of energy her body had onto cheering for Slytherin’s team.
(Y/N) made her way to one of the corners of the shop, wanting to see the newest Quidditch gloves her best friend had talked about so much in her letters. Maybe she could get her a new pair for her birthday, so she could start the season with brand new gloves. But looking at the price, she realized a cheappier gift would have to do. Her family wasn’t the richest and she knew her parents were struggling with money lately.
“Expensive, aren’t they?,” asked a voice from behind her. She turned around, one of the gloves still on her right hand, and noticed that the voice belonged to no other than Remus Lupin. She was lying to herself if she said he wasn’t good looking. Those dark brown eyes and soft hair had gotten to her when they were in their fourth year. (Y/N) had spent weeks, maybe even months, crushing on him and, of course, annoying her friends to no end about how perfect he was and how he was one of the few decent members of the lion house. But she never tried anything, she had a long list of excuses that, maybe, exceeded the many numerous reasons why she liked the Gryffindor so much.
“Definitely,” (Y/N) finally answered with a grimace in her face, “I thought I could get a pair for my best friend’s birthday since she’s a Chaser, but I’m not so sure now”.
Remus offered her a small smile and muttered something about how her best friend would appreciate anything she would give her. After that, neither of them said anything and only the noise of other people’s chattering could be heard. She looked around the store, trying to think about something that would lead to more talk, while Remus put his hands in his jeans’s pockets and changed the weight of his body to his left leg.
A few more seconds passed and (Y/N), not tolerating the awkward atmosphere anymore, was the one to initiate the conversation this time.
“So, um, Remus, are you, um, planning on joining the Gryffindor Quidditch team? Since, you know, you are… here”.
Merlin, her sister was right, she did need to start socialising more.
“Oh no, not a chance,” he answered letting a snicker escape his lips. (Y/N)’s mouth turned into a little smile because of the sound, not noticing at first. “I’m just here because of James and Sirius, they wanted to see some new brooms that came out this…”.
Remus words were interrupted by the same people he’d just mentioned. James Potter and Sirius Black, the most known students at Hogwarts, were walking towards them. (Y/N) tried to put on a neutral face, not showing her true thoughts on the two boys.
It wasn’t that she hated them. At some point, she had found her pranks on those horrible Slytherins funny, but after last year her opinion on them changed drastically. It appeared to be that they couldn’t distinguish who were the “good” Slytherins therefore they’d just played cruel jokes on every single member of the house. Or maybe, they didn’t think Slytherins could be nice and decent people, so all of them deserved to be made fun of.
“REMUS!,” they both shouted at the same time. Almost everyone in the shop turned to see them, and as (Y/N) moved uncomfortable with a scowled look because of the new, and unwanted attention, she wondered why they had to be so bloody loud all the time. “We were looking for you, but it seems you have found some company”.
Remus’s cheeks changed to a soft crimson after Sirius’s comment.
“Careful now, Rem, snakes tend to bite and some of them are poisonous.” James’s eyes shined with mischief as he spoke.
(Y/N) rolled her eyes at that, but instead of keeping quiet as she normally would, she responded to Potter’s remark, surprising the others and herself in the process.
“Excellent observation, James. Now, how much time did it take you to come up with that and for how long you’ve been wanting to use it? Perhaps, it was after that particular Quidditch match where Slytherin shredded you into pieces ”.
His face no longer showed a fun expression, but, in it’s place, was a face with narrowed eyes trying to hide the fact he had been caught. (Y/N) smiled at that, she was not this kind of person but it was good to see Potter embarrassed after he had humiliated her in front of half the school just a few months ago. She knew Sirius wanted to say something to save his friend, but as his mouth was starting to open to spill some sarcastic or stupid comment about her house, Remus stepped in.
“Sirius, don’t say anything, just leave her alone,” he began, giving the pair a pointed look with his eyebrows raised, “we were only talking, there’s no need to start acting as if she’s going to bite my head off”.
Dumb and Dumber, as one her Slytherin friends liked to called them, stared at Remus like he had transformed into a Hipogriff. (Y/N), as surprised as she was, glanced at him with a confused, yet somehow grateful, look on her face.  In return, he smiled at her and grabbed his friends from the shoulders, making them walk towards the door while mentioning something about having to meet up with Peter at Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlor.
Before reaching the door, Remus turned around, let go of Sirius for a moment and waved at her with a grin, one that made her cheeks blushed and her stomach flipped.
|||
It had been months since the interaction between her and Remus, plus James and Sirius. A small smile and a certain glow in her eyes stayed present on her face for the rest of the trip to Diagon Alley with her mother, who had not missed the sudden shift in her daughter’s appearance.
She hadn’t talked much with him again (only a few more times because of their prefect meetings), but the little interactions between them remained. Like the gentle and kind smiles they would send to each other while walking in the school grounds and greetings from afar with a short wave of the hand.
Winter break was just around the corner when they met again. Both wrapped around heavy coats, gloves and scarfs protecting them from the cold wind and the freezing fog. (Y/N) would have been pissed about her feet getting wet from the snow if it wasn’t for the outstanding landscape it created. A pure scenery, grounds and trees and roofs of the castle covered in white, in such terrible and corrupted times.
“Lovely, huh?,” he mouthed.
What is it with this boy and sneaking up on people?
(Y/N) nodded, still unable to tear her eyes from the view. When she finally did, she became aware of how close they were, elbows almost touching. Releasing a shaky breath, that quickly changed into what it looked like fog, (Y/N) peered at him. The end of his nose was red, matching his cheeks, while his lips were pale and dry from the weather. It was an adorable sight, perhaps even more worthy of her attention than the snowflakes falling from the sky.
“What makes you go to Hogsmeade on this particular frosty afternoon, (Y/N)?”
“I could ask you the same thing, Remus,” she exclaimed, the corners of her mouth quirking up as she mentioned his name, “but, if you really like to know, I’m heading there because I forgot about some Christmas’s presents. What about you?”
Without perceiving it, they had both started to walk towards the small town, making their way through the layers of snow.
“I just, um, wanted to visit Hogsmeade one last time before, you know, going home.” For a moment, (Y/N) had the idea of hearing some kind of hesitation while he spoke, as if he wasn’t entirely sure of what he was saying.
This time, (Y/N) would not let the conversation turn awkward so rapidly, after all this was her chance of having an actual opportunity with Remus. So she swallowed the majority of her nerves, which were quite a lot, and planted a smile on her face. But before the words could come out of her mouth, Remus himself had beat her.
“Would you like to come to the Three Broomsticks with me?,” he questioned.
It took her a few seconds to understand what he had asked because of how rushed he’d spoken. Her eyes widened at the notion of going on a date with him. Was it even a date? A small voice wondered inside her head. Ignoring it, she replied with a short yes. His entire demeanour immediately transformed. Remus’s eyes didn’t hold too much worry now and a large smile decorated his face.
The trip to the popular pub was shorter than it normally was, but (Y/N) guessed that had been for how much she and Remus talked while walking to the town. When they arrived, the warm and cozy ambient, although a bit smoky and crowded, received them like a bright lamp post in the middle of nowhere pointing out the pathway. Even if (Y/N) loved winter and snow, a hot butterbeer didn’t seem too bad after being exposed to the cold wind.
Sitting down at one of the tables from the right corner of the shop, right next to a large window and giving the back to one of the walls, she could see the entire place. But her eyes were now glued to the Gryffindor seated in front of her, who was trying not to look like he was going to pass out from the nerves of having a date (was it a date?) with the most gorgeous girl in Hogwarts, maybe even the whole world.
They passed the rest of the afternoon getting to know each other, chatting regarding the things they loved and hated from Hogwarts; complaining about professors and the amount of homework they sent; laughing because of some ridiculous story told by Remus (he swore his breath got caught in his lungs as he watched her throwing her head back while letting out a loud laugh, eyes shining with happiness and not caring, for the first time, about the looks from the people in the place). They discussed their favourite muggle authors, the most amazing films that had ever been made and their dreams after finishing their education.
(Y/N) had felt herself falling all over again for him while watching him talk about how much he’d loved being a professor and being there for his students. The passion and shine in his eyes rivaled even the brightest star in the night sky.
And Remus had seen the same expression in her face when she talked about becoming a known writer in both the muggle and wizarding world. Despite her excitement, he recognised something else in her eyes, perhaps uncertainty or even sadness. When he asked about it, (Y/N) confided in him the fact she was scared about trying it.
“What if it’s a waste of time? What I’m supposed to write about?”
“It won’t be a waste of your time if it makes you happy,” he reassured her, “and the ideas will come to you, don’t worry. You can even write about us.” (Y/N)’s eyes quickly made their way into his after hearing that. “I mean, about this part of our world”. She couldn’t help but feel quite disappointed.
“Wouldn’t I be violating the Statute of Secrecy?”
Remus raised his shoulders a little as he pressed his lips together, clearly trying to stop a smile from forming in his face.
“It’s not like the Ministry is going to find out,” he whispered, so only (Y/N) could be able to listen to him, “ who’s going to tell them about it? Me?”
A scoff left her mouth and she rolled her eyes playfully at him. Was this really happening? Remus Lupin, the boy she had a crush on in her fourth year, sitting in front of her, encouraging her to follow her dreams.
“Is the Golden Boy and Prefect of Gryffindor House actually saying that I should just break an International Law?” she joked while shaking her head in disbelief, “McGonagall would be so heart broken”.
Now it was his time to roll his eyes. Directing a smirk at her, he leaned back in his chair, more relaxed and with a new light glowing around him.
“Look, I would love to write about this world. But ambition is not the only trait that got me in Slytherin,” (Y/N) declared. She beamed when he furrowed his brows together in confusion, getting closer to the table and placing his elbows on top of it. “Violating that Law is having a death wish and self preservation is one of my top priorities”.
“I can’t help but agree to that”.
The hours kept running and people began to leave the pub, but not them. They had stayed until the owner told the teenagers he was closing. Not (Y/N) nor Remus had noticed where the time had gone. Quickly, they collected all of their belongings and left the establishment in a hurry. (Y/N) didn’t want to think about the punishment they’d received if they were caught.
Fortunately, they made it to the castle in one piece. Once they were a few meters away from the entrance, they started to laugh. None of them knew why, it just seemed like a good time to do it.
“What happened to you and your advice of breaking the rules?” (Y/N) said in the middle of a laugh.
“I hope this doesn’t become a tradition, Mr. Lupin, Ms. (Y/L/N),” a stern female voice said in front of them. Professor McGonagall was standing gracefully in front of the door, her arms crossed over her chest and a furious expression implanted in her face.
Remus and (Y/N) looked at each other, the same thought running through their minds. They were so screwed.

December 25th.
Dear (Y/N):
I’m sending this letter to wish you a Merry Christmas and a great New Year, even though it’s not the 31st yet, but well… that doesn’t really matter right now.
I remembered you talking about how much you wanted to read more classics, and I couldn’t help myself. Inside the box, you will find Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley, and Wuthering Heights, by some other lovely woman named Emily Brontë. I’m not so sure about why you would enjoy them as much as I did, but maybe they’ll inspire you on your journey of becoming a writer. It won’t hurt visiting new worlds to fill your mind with ideas.
Also, and I hope this doesn’t bother you, the books are not brand new. They were read by me and have some marks on the pages, but I don’t like giving new books as gifts. I think that if they were used, they are even more special and hold more value.
Can’t wait to see you once the break is over.
Sincerely, Remus John Lupin.

The grin on her face never abandoned her after reading Remus’s letter and opening the silver paper with golden stars all over it, in which he had wrapped the two books he had mentioned. In fact, it lingered on her for the rest of the day, accompanied with a special and renovated brightness in her eyes.
Before letting the owl return back to its owner, (Y/N) gave her some food and water, and when it was ready, she attached a small box with red paper on the exterior and a green bow at the top. She had also prepared a gift for him, even if it wasn’t that meaningful (at least, that was what she thought). (Y/N) only hoped he would enjoy the chocolate stash, full with different muggle and wizarding ones she had thought he could try, while the owl stepped away from her windowsill.
Around eight p.m, she finally went to bed and despite spending the day interacting with her family, (thing that tired her out pretty quickly), (Y/N) was more awake than ever before. Laying down on her bed with a cup of tea and an old blanket that had once belonged to her sister, covering her legs, she grabbed one of the books Remus gifted her, ready to dwell in Mary Shelley’s world.

first one shot ahhh
tw- minor mentions of death
us? never.
third year was the first time he asked her out officially. that infuriating hair and cocky grin he flashed her way before sauntering over to her with a confidence that no fourteen year old should have. ‘so what do you say me and you go on a date evans? you know, tell everyone that we’re an item.’ she grit her teeth because god if he was anything other than infuriating before spitting out ‘us? never.’
fourth year came and the marauders were still as exasperating as ever but she would be lying if she said they weren’t a welcome distraction for her. their constant loud energy let her think about something other than how these days behind severus’s words seemed to linger something so much darker. but all gratefulness for the distraction vanishes immediately when a filibuster bursts right above her at the gryffindor table and now there’s orange juice all over the front of her blouse and all she can see is red. she storms over to the four boys with the innocent looks one their faces and she doesn’t really remember what it was she said but she does know it would’ve been enough to make a grown man cry but not the marauders. especially not james potter. while the other three have the decency to look at least a little scared, potter just sits there with the most self satisfied expression on his face. and then he had the audacity to speak, ‘merlin evans you sure are creative with your swearing. godric’s burning ballsack? it’s inspired really. we could use that talent. your brilliance and my charm, we would make a pretty spectacular team don’t you think?’ lily just stares at him because god if he was anything other than infuriating but it was 8 in the morning and she was already drained so she just said ‘us? never.’
fifth year and she was on the train on her way home for christmas, her body filling with dread, already anticipating the colder than ice welcome she’ll receive from her sister especially now after the blow up in summer after she got the prefect badge. marlene, dorcas and mary were staying at hogwarts that christmas and alice was a bit lost in her newly found romance with frank longbottom and she didn’t want to interrupt their honeymoon phase so she sat alone in the compartment and tried her best not to wallow in self pity. then there was a knock at her door and in glided james potter in all his arrogant glory. she glared at him in an attempt to say ‘what in the living hell are you doing here?’ and he just stared back with a calm but equally challenging expression. she couldn’t tell how long they stayed like that for but after a while he accepted mock defeat and replied to her telepathic question ‘i just wanted to know why you were sitting here all alone and sad when such kindred and fun-‘
‘and glorious!’ called sirius black from god knows where.
‘-and glorious spirits are sitting in the compartment right across from you.’
she rolled her eyes and responded, ‘i’m not alone and sad.’
‘please you can smell the gloom the moment you walk in here’ he scoffed.
‘it’s a lot potter but we aren’t friends so it’s alright you don’t have to listen to my problems.’
he mock gasped ‘how dare you, it happens to be my life’s purpose to listen to your problems. and i must embrace my destiny.’
she could feel the corners of her mouth tug up and she mentally screamed at herself because no no no she is not smiling at something james potter said because this is james potter and god if he was anything other than infuriating. she looked at him and despite the humour in his words she saw genuine concern in his face. so she, as briefly as she could, explained the situation with her sister and they kept talking and somehow, by the time the last rays of the setting sun were filtering in through the window, they were still talking. ‘anything from the trolley dears?’ they both looked up to see the trolley witch smiling at them kindly and james nodded and bought some food. before she could reach for her purse, james was already paying. he fixed her with a stare as if to say ‘don’t even try’ so she just grabbed a licorice wand and bit into it. the trolley witch gave james his change and right before she left she smiled and said ‘so you both are finally together huh?’ and james grinned a smile wider than anything she’s seen before while lily choked on her licorice wand before spluttering out ‘us? never.’
sixth year came and lily couldn’t look at either snape or potter in the face because she was furious, but she was also so so hurt. she ignored the signs for so long and it finally came back to bite her in the ass. and now the damage has been done and whenever she sees snape watching her in the corridors or in the great hall, he was always with an expression of great sadness but she knows it was more for himself than anyone else. and potter. with snape she was sure what she was feeling, an unmistakable sense of hatred. but with potter it was a haze. she didn’t know whether to hate him or thank him for being the reason she saw snape’s true colours. so she ignored it. and she got away with it until one day, she heard him shouting her name from across the crowded hall. she put her head down and tried to blend into the crowd but apparently potter now has an eye like a hawk and immediately spotted her trying to slip onto one of the staircases. she hurriedly tried to climb up and a hand caught her wrist and pulled her back just as she noticed the step in front of her had moved to join another staircase ‘damn these moving staircases’ she internally cursed hogwarts and it’s incredibly horrendous timing. ‘merlin evans watch where you’re going’ came james potter’s slightly out of breath voice ‘you may be terrible at hiding but you sure are fast.’ ‘aren’t you supposed to be an athlete?’ she muttered, looking for the closest exit and then noticed james’s hand still gripping her wrist. ‘har dee har har,’ he replied sarcastically ‘i need to talk to you.’. lily sighed, she knew this was gonna happen eventually so she just nodded at him to lead the way. he gently pulled her down the school and a few minutes later, she was sitting in a well furnished secret tunnel, not surprised in the slightest because what else could you expect from the marauders. then james launched into a winded speech about how he’s really sorry evans and other than the few slightly inappropriate innuendos here and there it was a genuine apology and she found herself nodding when he softly asked ‘so can we put this all behind us and be friends?’. so a few days later the school was buzzing with news that james potter and lily evans actually walked to class together without any minor casualties. lily still found him and his puns exasperating because god if he was anything other than infuriating. but they were friends now and she didn’t mind it? not one bit. ‘should i be jealous now?’ marlene asked one day when they were walking to the lake together. lily looked at her confused and asked ‘what why?’
‘because you and potter are best friends now aren’t you?’
lily looked at marlene with a roll of her eyes and a very small smile
‘us? never.’
seventh year and they were so close to the end. in a few months it would all be over and they would leave the castle and all the magic it held behind. to become soldiers. like it or not they were all going to fight. and god was lily terrified. faces of the missing flashed through her mind at the worst times and she knew, everyone knew, this wasn’t going to end anytime soon. not unless they all fought and won the war or died trying. and she was so so scared for everyone she loved. marlene, dorcas, mary, alice, frank, peter, sirius, remus, james. james. lily thought of the quidditch captain and how absolutely stunned she had been when she saw him in the beginning of the year with the head boy badge. one glance and she could tell he had changed. he stood up taller, not with arrogance but with the stance of someone ready to lead. he talked with purpose and acted the same. james potter had grown up. and she could tell it was for his family, for sirius. and she noticed it all. yeah noticing is one thing but the slow fluttering in her stomach when she did? completely different. and she tried so damn hard to ignore them because she can’t focus on romance when she or anyone around her might die any day. and that was exactly what she was thinking about when she looked down at the daily prophet that day and read the front page article. death eaters strike muggle town. killed 4. she choked back a sob as she saw her town’s name on the smaller print and as she read the names she slowly processed the words. suzzane edward. she had known suzanne, been best friends with her as a child and even talked to her last summer. and now she was gone. her and her whole family. she was devastated for them. she put down the paper with a start and looked around the table to see almost everyone at the table clutching a paper in their hands, their expressions varying from horror to defeat as they took in the tragic familiarity of it all. the rest of the day went by in a blur and by the end of the day she sat in the common room trying as hard as she could to focus on the relevance of the goblin wars to today’s banking system. she could hear wisps of conversations floating from parts of the room and she heard marlene say ‘they were found lying next to each other. i’ve read so many people say that even if they died, they died having found their soulmate.’ and upon hearing that, something inside lily sparked. she had to do something and she had to do it now. she knew peter was attending a study group tonight and sirius and remus were merlin knows where and she did know james did not have practice today so she shoved her parchment aside and like a woman on a mission stalked up the stairs to the boys dormitory. and as she took the last few steps her mind caught up to what she was doing and she paused ‘oh god what am i gonna say when i go up there and what? james potter isn’t your soulmate.’ she sighed and turned around about to leave but then her thoughts interrupted her once again ‘isn’t he?’ and that was the last push she needed. she near sprinted up the stairs again, grabbed the handle and barged into the dormitory with the initials j.p. s.b. r.l. and p.p. carved into the door. she entered breathless, to find james sitting in bed in an old t-shirt and
‘bright red snitch pajamas??!!??’
‘evans!!??’
she couldn’t help her laughter, ‘you wear snitch pajamas!’ she snorted.
james was too startled to even look embarrassed ‘evans what are you doing here? are you okay?’ this sobered lily up immediately and she looked around and remembered what she was there to do and managed to stammer ‘oh- uh- yeah.’
‘yeah?’ james asked, still visibly confused.
lily took in a deep breath, ‘okay you got one chance, DO NOT screw it up.’
‘okay well- shit. okay so you know how there’s a war going on right? of course you do. yeah so i heard marlene talk about soulmates and how dying together is better than living without one and hell when i heard that the first person i thought of was you. all these years i kept turning you down cause i found you immature, annoying and quite frankly infuriating and i didn’t expect that to change and then you show up this year and god you changed. you stopped being an arrogant asshole, you stopped walking around like you owned the place and you changed for the better and i couldn’t believe it. then i saw how you were with the firsties and how well you took care of them and when simon hubell needed help with his transfiguration homework, you stayed up all night helping him. and everyone kept telling me you changed for me but i knew, it was for your brother and it made me want to punch a wall because you’ve become a 100 times better person than you already were and how was i so oblivious. and of course i saw what changed in you but i also saw what didn’t. your hair is still as messy as ever and you still run your hands through it whenever you’re nervous or anxious and your laugh, it still fills up a room with joy like it always did, it’s infectious. and you’re still so determined, i mean, whether it was asking me out or anything about the war, you never gave up and you inspired almost everyone in the school. and your eyes. they’re still the chocolate brown they’ve always been and they still turn lighter, almost amber when you’re happy and turn near black when you’re angry and there’s that shine in them that only shows up when you’re up to no good and lately i’ve seen that shine when you’re talking about the war and god those eyes. i’ve slowly fallen in love with them and i can’t help it anymore. ironic isn’t it?i guess your pining methods do work potter. cause here i am in your dorm almost at midnight declaring my love for you.’
she let out a giant breath and stared at james waiting for something, anything. he stared at her, right at her and slowly got up from the bed and walked across the room, never once breaking eye contact and came to stand less than a hair breadth away from her, his eyes shining in a way she’s never seen before. ‘you aren’t pranking me now are you evans? because if this is revenge for all the pranks i would like to let you know that you would’ve broken my heart, like completely shatter-‘
‘no you toerag. i’m not pranking you.’
‘oh okay-‘
‘because if i was, would i do this?’
then she reached up to cup his jaw and met his lips and she could see it all. the stars, the moons and her entire future. with him.
after what felt like an eternity of bliss they broke apart and rested their foreheads against each other’s. ‘i love you james potter, more than you’ll ever know.’ she whispered.
‘oh i know, because i love you an infinity times more lily evans.’
so as she left the dorm that night, both of their eyes shining with something new and so so much brighter, he called out ‘so does this mean we’re together now evans?’ with a grin in his words.
she turned around, smiling and eyes sparkling.
‘us? never.’

THE UNFORGIVABLE CURSES
Harry began his reading with high spirits, as eager as Ron to get to Moody's first lesson, no matter how much his inner mind was sending off pinging noises every time his name was mentioned.
The next two days passed without incident, unless you counted Neville melting his sixth cauldron in Potions.
"In his first week, I consider that impressive," James smirked.
Snape seemed to have attained new levels of vindictiveness over the summer,
"Can't say I'm surprised," Lily muttered bitterly.
and gave Neville detention, which he returned from in a state of nervous collapse, having been made to disembowel a barrel full of horned toads.
"Eew," Remus shuddered.
"That shouldn't be an allowed punishment," Sirius scowled hotly, "and Neville owns a toad, so that's just extra cruel."
"Actually Sirius, the horned toad is a species of lizard, not of the amphibian kind," Lily corrected.
Sirius looked stumped for a moment, muttering about insane people naming things, before he shook himself and got back on track, "it's still disgusting."
"No one's arguing with you there," James agreed.
Ron reminded Harry why Snape would be in a particularly bad mood for now, while Hermione showed Neville a spell to get the frog guts out of his nails.
"I didn't know better," Harry defended when Lily looked like she was fixing to repeat herself. "Just went by the name."
Harry agreed it was because of Moody.
"Let's just see him try anything against him," Remus snorted. "Moody'll turn him into a bat for us."
"Can't wait," Sirius said eagerly.
Everyone knew that Snape wanted the DADA job for himself, and this was the fourth year in a row he hadn't gotten it.
"Probably longer, as we don't know when he started," Lily corrected, while the boys rolled their eyes at such a minor thing.
Snape had hated everyone who had gotten the job before, and was never shy of showing it, but something was different about this time. Snape seemed to be going out of his way to avoid Moody.
James gave a maniacal laugh, as they all knew what that meant.
Harry suggested that Snape was scared of Moody, and Ron got a dreamy look on his face as he wished Moody would turn Snape into a horned toad for them and bounce him around his own dungeons.
"A dream come true," Sirius agreed solemnly.
Thursday arrived, showing the whole of Harry's class lining up outside Moody's class.
Lily couldn't help a little snort of laughter. She could just imagine McGonagall or someone coming by and seeing that and getting exasperated at this display.
The only person missing was Hermione, who turned up just in time for the lesson.
"I'm sure that's a first," Remus chuckled.
She tried to explain to the others where she'd been, but Harry cut her off saying they knew it was the library, before waving them inside saying he wanted good seats.
"Seats?" James asked.
"I guess this is a form of show for them," Sirius shrugged in agreement, he was sure they'd have been the same way at Harry's age.
The trio managed to sit in the front row, pulling out their assigned text. Not moments later, they heard the distinct clunking noise of his wooden foot headed their way.
"Can't sneak up on anyone anymore can he?" Remus said in surprise.
"It's not like you couldn't put a muffling charm on that if you need to," Sirius shrugged, "he just doesn't while in school."
"Still, he's got to be a lot slower with that thing," James sighed for the guy.
He entered and told them to put their books away, they wouldn't need them today.
"Always the best way to start the lesson," Lily smiled.
Everyone did as told, still looking excited. Moody began calling roll, his normal eye scrolling down the list, his magical one zeroing in on the person who raised their hand.
"Because that's not creepy at all," James couldn't help a shiver.
When he was done with that, he told how Professor Lupin had left a letter about this class,
"Bet that was all kinds of interesting," Sirius snickered.
"Did it start with, warning Harry Potter will give you hell, because everything in the school tries to kill him, so you need to teach him every deadly spell you can," Harry grumbled.
"I doubt I would have phrased it like that," Remus said gently, while the others looked like they wanted to laugh, or would have if that hadn't been so true.
about how they'd gone over several Dark creatures,
"Sad that Remus is the only teacher who's actually given any value to this class," Lily sighed.
such as boggarts, red caps, hinkypunks, grindylows, kappas, and werewolves.
"The last one was involuntary, but sure that's about right," Remus grumbled.
The students gave a murmured agreement, as Moody continued that these students were very behind on dealing with their curses.
"Well he's not wrong," James shrugged.
"I'm blasted you know any useful offensive spells," Sirius agreed.
"I can do my own studying," Harry defended. "I've looked up some stuff for other classes, and just ran across others."
"We're not blaming you dear," Lily quickly corrected, "we're just sad is all. This is a really important class, and the fact that you're so lacking isn't going to help you later."
"You're showing an immense display of skill knowing what you do even with the problems with this class," Remus agreed.
Harry blushed slightly at the praise, since as far as he was aware everyone was at the same level as him except Hermione of course, but the compliments were so unexpected he couldn't find it in himself to argue.
He continued that was his job for the year, and he only had that time to do it.
"He's not staying longer?" Sirius pouted.
"Guess Dumbledore can only find a temporary fix now," Remus sighed.
"Maybe we'll get lucky and he'll find a reason to stay," Lily said hopefully, as having a head auror hanging around would certainly make her feel better with all the problems Harry got up to.
Harry couldn't help but wonder why his gut reaction was to correct her, say he wanted nothing of the sort to happen, but then there was again this conflicting feeling inside like he'd enjoy this very much, as he knew Moody to be a good person. He'd never felt such opposite opinions about one man, and to have no idea where they could stem from was starting to drive him crazy.
Ron interrupted to ask why he wasn't staying longer.
Moody's magical eye lingered on Ron then, who looked suddenly apprehensive, but then Moody's mouth twisted, making his face look even more contorted than it should,
Sirius couldn't help a little chuckle.
as he smiled. Moody confirmed that he was Arthur Weasley's kid, and told how Arthur had gotten him out of a tight spot a few days ago.
"Least someone acknowledges it," Lily grumbled, still smarting about that article.
Then he agreed it was only for the year, special favor to Dumbledore, then he'd go back to his quiet retirement.
All of them gave a laugh at that, clearly his retirement was more entertaining than he was leading on if he set dustbins on people, or cats. At the reminder, they were almost hoping to hear Moody's side of the story to that now.
He got back on topic then, speaking of Curses. He pointed out that the Ministry guidelines did show that Moody was only supposed to be teaching counter curses, not to show anything illegal or Dark until sixth year, that supposedly they weren't old enough yet.
Lily was getting uneasy at the way this was starting.
Dumbledore agreed with Moody though, and decided they could cope with whatever they needed to.
"Well as long as Dumbledore thinks so," James said with much more sarcasm then he ever would have thought possible, but after everything had come out about Sirius last year, James really couldn't say he was in the headmaster's corner one hundred percent anymore.
Pointing out how were you supposed to defend yourself against something you've never seen.
"Merlin help it, they're fourteen, I don't want to see them having to defend themselves against anything," Lily sighed, more upset than she could put into words that even in this Voldemort free world, she still couldn't bring herself to argue this too much. Oh she'd complain about it, she didn't want her son to have to learn to defend himself, but she couldn't find it in herself either to say that he shouldn't know this either, better safe than sorry.
He explained that a wizard who was going to use a curse on you wasn't going to warn you beforehand,
"Not wrong about that," Remus nodded.
so they need to be prepared, and watchful, and to put that away Miss Brown!
James did a double take, not sure if he'd heard that last part right.
Lavender jumped and blushed, she'd been showing Parvati her completed star chart under the desk.
Sirius let out a surprised whistle, saying, "this thing keeps getting cooler. It can see through desks now! Wonder what else it can see through?"
Apparently Moody's magical eye could see through solid wood as well. He kept going, asking the students which curses were the most punishable if caught using.
"Oh, so we're starting at the tippy top," Lily raised a brow.
"It's not a bad idea," James shrugged, "start with the hardest and work your way down, by the time you get to the bottom you'll breeze through them."
"The opposite usually works better," Remus countered, "starting with the basics means you'll have a better handle the farther up you go."
"Both can work for different people," Sirius waved them off, "you really want to sit around and debate the school system, because I don't."
He turned pleading eyes on Harry, who was more than happy to keep going.
Several hands went up, and Moody called on Ron, who said his dad has mentioned one, the Imperious Curse.
Harry noticed his dad go a few shades paler in shock at the mention of that curse, so said, "So that's where I learned this," aloud, remembering he'd gone over this with his family back during his second year. James gave him an absent smile as he quickly came back from wherever his mind had been.
Lily was still chewing over the cut off argument the boys had been having, wanting to argue that they were still a spot too young to be learning this, it was seventh year material, but also couldn't push that it was wrong for them to know this either. So long as he didn't teach them the actual incantation, there was no harm in making them aware of these.
Moody agreed that one used to give the ministry a world of trouble.
"Living that time," Lily scoffed aloud, "and trouble doesn't quite cover it."
"The people who do have it used on them usually are so torn up about what they did, they don't want to come forward," James explained for Harry.
"While those who probably did it of their own free will, have no problems coming forward and pretending they were forced to," Sirius grumbled.
Moody went to go fetch a glass jar from his desk then, which contained three spiders.
The four of them shivered as they realized what was coming, Moody was going to demonstrate these spells on those arachnids. Lily's feelings of unease began rising another few degrees. Now this was definitely pushing the limit.
Harry felt Ron recoil slightly next to him, Ron hated spiders.
"And there's that," Remus nodded, thinking this was as close as he'd been to one since his time in the Forest, and it probably wasn't a pleasant reminder for him.
Moody caught one, and then used the spell 'Imperio.'
"He couldn't have at least done that silently," Lily sighed.
The boys, really weren't going to argue the point. They all exchanged wary looks, rather as upset as Lily for once on this matter. It wasn't just Harry, but he was the one they were thinking of when the thought of preserving what little innocence he had. He'd already been through so much, and hearing about him learning these spells was just that little extra saddening to them. None of them were still going to say this much out loud, they didn't want Harry to think they thought he couldn't handle it.
The spider began doing flips and cartwheels around the desk, then rose up on just two legs and began a tap-dance.
"I didn't even know spiders could do that," Harry said in surprise, unable to imagine the little black body contorting like that.
"If the bodies physically capable of the ability, even slightly though it won't do it voluntarily, the Imperius can have you do it," Remus sighed.
Everyone was laughing, except the teacher.
Lily shook her head sadly, thinking this was a good reason right there why these kids shouldn't be shown this spell quite yet. They clearly weren't old enough to realize how horrible this was, even to something like a little spider.
He growled at them if they thought this was funny, maybe they'd like it placed on them.
"Least he's keeping them on track," Sirius muttered.
Explaining that this spell gave total control, he could make anyone do anything. Jump out a window, drown themselves, force this little spider hear to jump down someone's throat...
James gave an involuntary gag at the mention.
Ron gave a terrible shudder at that idea.
Moody went on to explain that years ago, the Ministry had trouble sorting out who was and wasn't acting of their own free will because of this curse.
"So there's no way to tell the difference?" Harry sighed. "No looking at a memory through a pensive, or anything?"
"Sadly not," Lily explained. "You can erase the memory of that person being Imperiused, and then you'd just witness what did happen. It's not concrete."
"Veritaserum wouldn't work either," Sirius sadly tacked on. He hated talking about this, it was bringing back bad memories of how he kept picturing his own trial had gone getting him sent into Azkaban, but Harry deserved to know this no matter his discomfort. "Since you'd just admit to the things you did, and if the spell was done up right, you probably wouldn't even know you'd been doing it under the curse."
Harry sighed, thinking that while magic had its advantages, there were clearly so many faults in the system it was sad how easily it could be manipulated for all the cruel people of the world.
This curse could be fought, which he'd be teaching them,
"He'll be doing what now?" Lily snapped sharply.
"Chill Lil," James waved her off, "I'm sure he's just going to explain the concept. Even Dumbledore couldn't allow him to actually use that spell on these kids."
Harry got double vision for a moment, his tongue locking up before he settled back and grumbled about his stupid memory messing with him.
but it took real strength to fight this off. You'd better try and avoid it if at all possible, then he screamed 'constant vigilance!'
Harry had shouted that so loudly, that he made the others jump, lighting a smile on his face for spooking them like that and managing to distract them, mostly Sirius, from wherever their thoughts had been lingering.
Moody put the spider back, then asked for another curse. To Harry's surprise, Neville raised his hand.
"I don't want to know how he and his Gran got into that conversation," Lily shivered.
Harry was getting a foreboding feeling, like he'd be much happier if Neville had no idea about some Unforgivable spell in particular...
The only class Neville ever volunteered information was Herbology, even Neville looked surprised at his own daring.
"Poor kid," Remus smiled lightly, wishing that Neville had more confidence in himself more often. He'd clearly done well in this class given the right encouragement, hopefully Moody would help that along more.
Moody called on him, and Neville managed to get out the Cruciatus Curse.
There it was. Harry felt a distinct blow to his gut, hearing Neville talk about this put him on edge in a terrible way. He tried to shake it off when the others noticed, but it wasn't working that well. Something was lingering, something he knew deep down would be terrible to learn.
Moody's eyes lingered on him, asking that his name was Longbottom? Neville gave a nervous nod, but then Moody moved on.
"Why did he ask?" Lily couldn't stop herself from asking, her voice cracking with unease.
No one answered her, a thought flickered across their mind at the implication both Moody and Harry had given, but none of them could press it without finding something they didn't want.
He went back to his jar of spiders and got a fresh one, explaining the spider should be bigger for them to see this effect, then used the spell 'Engorgio.' Ron recoiled in horror and pushed his chair back as the spider swelled.
"Guess Ron regrets his front row seat now," Sirius muttered.
Then Moody switched spells, and shouted 'Crucio.' The spider rolled onto its back and began rocking from side to side, its legs spasming. Harry could tell that if it could, it would be screaming.
The four of them felt a terrible shiver. They'd all felt the brunt of that curse, it tended to be a favorite of Death Eaters trying to incapacitate someone long enough to run, and the reminder on something even as small as a spider wasn't a pleasant one.
Harry felt lucky, if sad for thinking so, that he only had to witness this happening to a spider, hoping dearly right now this was all he'd have to deal with in regards to that spell.
Moody kept at it, until the spider's movements began to become more jerky and it was shuddering, until Hermione screamed at him to stop it.
Lily couldn't help but sigh with relief. She had no shame in admitting that was starting to disturb her, and wasn't surprised it would get to several kids in that class.
Harry looked at her, but saw that she was watching Neville,
"Oh dear," Remus muttered, leaning into the couch in fear as this wasn't helping them lessen their worry of why Neville would be reacting so badly to this.
who was white knuckled and gazing forward with wide, terrified eyes.
"Ooh," Lily muttered, wanting to go over there and give the boy a hug. She wasn't sure if they were guessing insanely wrong, and she hoped she was, and he had some kind of personal experience with this curse or if he in particular was having a bad reaction, but either way this was a moment where a boy should be reassured it was okay to be freaking out.
Moody released the spell and shrank the spider back to normal size, explaining to the class that you didn't need knives to torture people when you had the Cruciatus. That had been a very popular one at a time to.
"Here's to dying out spells," James shivered.
He put the spider back and asked if anyone knew another. No one answered, like they were all afraid to see what would happen to the next spider.
"I already know, and I don't want to see it," Harry sighed.
Then, for the third time, Hermione finally gave a shaky hand raise.
"Why does she know this?" James balked, realizing this for the first time. "Just what the bloody hell kind of book is she reading to have come across this, you'd think this would be restricted section material."
"Merlin only knows," Sirius sighed, "we can hardly claim we were saints in getting to know some information. Hermione's just doing the same thing, but not exactly putting it to the same uses."
Moody called on her, and Hermione answered 'Avada Kedavra.' Moody agreed with another twist of his mouth.
"I don't like it when he smiles anymore," Lily grumbled.
Agreeing the last and worst, was known as the Killing Curse. He went back to the jar and placed the spider on the desk, where it stood frozen.
Lily couldn't help it. She wasn't a fan of spiders by any means, but she could feel her face tightening in displeasure for what she knew was coming.
Without any kind of hesitation, Moody raised his wand and cursed the spider with 'Avada Kedavra,' and with a flash of green light, the spider lay dead.
"I personally wouldn't have demonstrated that spell on a spider in front of Ron," Sirius tried in vain to shoot some humor around again, this depressing mood was driving him crazy. "Now that's going to be Ron's solution to every spider he sees."
"Hopefully Hermione will convince him his boot will work just fine," James added on out of obligation, still to on edge to really have his fun.
Several students almost screamed, Ron nearly toppled out of his chair as the body went skidding in his direction.
Moody swept the tiny black body off his desk without concern, addressing the class to explain that there was no countercurse to that spell, no way to block it. Only one person had ever survived, and he was in here.
Harry watched the faces around him drain of all color. They had certainly guessed this, evidence had been piling up since Harry's remembered dementor memory coupled with his knowledge that if he struggled to remember on his own he'd find a flash of green light and that was it. It was just, put like that, it seemed unreal. How had Harry survived that? How had Lily actually found a way to protect him from it? She'd died to save his life, Dumbledore had made that clear, but how on earth was this possible? Lily couldn't have been the first mother to step in the way of her child's death, so why wouldn't any of those instances counted in saving another child's life. If they were understanding this right, then Harry's situation shouldn't have been as unique as it was.
Yet Moody himself had just confirmed as much...which meant that something more was going on. Something had to have happened other than just Lily staying in that line of fire without moving.
Harry sat there in a state of unease as he tried to understand why Moody would even know that. How would anyone know these details?* He'd only worked them out because of his dementor experience, but then he presumed that the rest of the populace must have just pieced it together from the scene they'd walked in on. After all, the Avada Kedavra curse seemed a preference of Voldemort, and they would have seen the effects of it being used on James and Lily. Then they most likely would have seen the body of Voldemort, but Harry still sitting in his crib, and rightly assumed it had rebounded from the child, hence his fame.
Lily was starting to get goosebumps all up her body as she tried to piece together what else could have happened that night, if somehow James had also been involved, but the longer she thought about it the harder it was getting to breathe. No one wanted to think about their final moments, even if they had been the reason her son had lived.
James wasn't any better, his throat tightening like he was being forced to hear about Lily's final moments all over again, the thought of his only son being abandoned in that crib for Merlin knew how long before Hagrid found him with only the corpse of his mother for company. He couldn't get his brain past that appalling image to think on anything else.
Remus and Sirius exchanged an unspeakable look, knowing that it would break them apart inside to do so, but they were the best ones who could actually sit around and talk about this, they wouldn't dream of keeping the others around for it, but someone had to figure out what the bloody hell had happened to make this possible, it could save their lives if they could find a way to activate this earlier somehow.
They couldn't do anything now though, it would be disastrous if they tried to convince them to cut the chapter off for now because all three would protest they could handle it and try to join in, they were that kind of stubborn. So the two of them silently agreed they'd wait until later, and for now they did what they did best, caused a distraction.
Remus snuggled up next to Lily, platonically wrapping his arm around her and giving the baby in her lap a playful tickle and saying, "well this sucks."
Sirius gave an extra loud snort, telling him, "you have a way of understating things. You're not wrong though, so how about we get to the end of the lesson. I want to gripe at Moody for giving you homework."
James was still shaking his head slowly from side to side, clearly vacant to everything around him, so Harry wriggled up to his side, only hesitated for a second, before throwing an arm around him and promising, "I get it. Do you want to stop, or-"
"No," James muttered, "just keep going."
Harry exchanged a look with Sirius, but couldn't find a reason to argue either.
Harry felt his face flush in shock, as all eyes turned to him. Harry stared down at the dead spider, and wondered if that's what his parents had looked like, unmarked and unblemished?
'Okay, I lied, I want him to stop now' James tried to rasp that out, his mind certainly screamed it loud enough in his head, but the words closed off and Harry kept going almost feverishly, clearly struggling to get this out loud.
It was one of those terrible moments where Harry was actually pretty bitter at this book for publicizing all of his personal thoughts like this, something he never would have shared with those around him.
Was the last thing they'd seen a flash of green light, before nothing?
'Yeah, that about covers it' Sirius whimpered, desperately latching onto the first memory he could to stop himself from crying, thinking of his brother that way, and instead he saw a white ferret bouncing around, and it cultivated into a strange look on his face that the others chose to ignore.
Harry had been picturing his parent's death for three years now. He knew they'd been betrayed by Wormtail,
The three Marauders still gave an involuntary flinch every time that was mentioned.
and handed over to Voldemort,
Because they had just loved hearing about all of that the first time through.
Not one of them could say a word to Harry though, what could they say? Snap at him for dwelling on all of this, they'd probably be more concerned for his well-being if he pretended he never did. These were his private thoughts, terrible as they were, and they just wanted this part to be over, so none of them dared speak a word.
who had arrived and killed Harry's father first. James had tried to fight him off, telling his wife to run with their son, but Voldemort had killed him, then his mother, before turning his wand on Harry. Harry knew these details, because whenever he was around a dementor he heard his parent's final moments.
Harry speed read through all of that, detesting how it made each of them look likely to faint any moment, hating himself for dwelling on it when it only caused them pain. If there was anything he ever wanted to skip in these books, it's whenever mention of this came up.
Moody was still talking, and Harry had to struggle to pay attention.
'Thank Merlin for that' was the first thing Lily coherently thought, twisting a strand of hair around her finger in agitation, the comfort of Remus at her side and her baby on her lap all that was holding her together. It was taking everything in her not to go over and curl into James chest here and now, but she refused to show just how upset this was making her, she had to be stronger than that.
He was still talking about the curse, how much magic it required to use. The students could pull out their wand right now and try, and Moody wouldn't even get a nosebleed.
"Be fun to try," Sirius said viciously, irrationally blaming Moody for having brought all of this up again.
Moody wasn't here to teach them how to use the spell though,
"Could have fooled me," Remus growled so low no one was sure of the exact words.
he was here to show them the worst of the world, so they'd be prepared. Then he screamed 'constant vigilance!' at them again.
Harry couldn't stop himself from shouting that again, though this time not a smile was seen. Harry had let that loose with primal emotion, the need to shout his frustration at his family's soon to come situation coming out in those two words. He regretted it when he saw how hard they all jumped, it clearly hadn't done anything to help, but when a rebuke didn't come he kept going, realizing they all understood why he had.
He went back to teaching, saying that the three curses were known as the Unforgivable Curses. Using any of these three on another person would get you a sentence in Azkaban.
'That's not the only way' Sirius couldn't help but hiss, forcing himself to only say that in his head, no need to bring up something he preferred to avoid.
This was what the world was up against, what you were going to be fighting! You had to be prepared, armed, and always vigilant.
'I don't want to be an auror anymore.' James hadn't even realized he'd thought that for a moment, but then he considered it, and realized how deeply he meant it. He'd pictured himself being the hero, hauling in all those terrible Death Eaters who dared harm Muggles and Muggleborns like his wife. It wasn't until Moody had showed off all of this though did the full impact of that job really sink in, how much it would cost him if he did pursue this. Sure he knew about a lot of this stuff from his own time in his DADA classes, but none of his teachers had ever managed to make it seem so realistic. He tried to brush all of that away for now though, knowing better than to try and make a life decision in the heat of the moment.
For the rest of the lesson they took notes on the Unforgivable Curses, and no one spoke again until class was dismissed. The students barely made it out of the door however, when they all burst into excited chatter about all the spiders had done. Harry watched them speak of the lesson like they'd just seen some great show.
"This probably went without saying, but I'm saying it anyways," Sirius grumbled, "I still prefer Moony. He would have gotten through those kids thick heads this isn't a stupid game."
"Thanks," Remus said sincerely.
"I think this just proves they were too young for that lesson," James sighed, "I still don't think we can claim any better if we'd been shown that our fourth year instead of seventh. Even Moony might not have gotten that through to them."
"Thanks," Remus repeated with a touch of sarcasm this time.
Hermione wasn't listening though, forcing her way through the crowd and hurrying her two friends along, and when asked where she was trying to rush off to, she pointed down a side corridor where Neville had hidden himself.
"Oh the poor dear," Lily sighed, wrapping her arm even tighter around her own infant. Neville had seemed like a really sweet and sensitive boy to her so far, she hated to think what this had done to him.
Neville was alone, looking vacantly out the window, his eyes still as wide as when he'd seen the Cruciatus Curse in action.
"He definitely knows someone that's been through that," James gave a blistering sigh at finally having said what they were all thinking.
"Or it was used on him," Sirius said lowly.
"Sirius!" Lily shirked, "he's fourteen, what the bloody hell-"
"You can't pretend it's never happened," Sirius cut her off with steel gray eyes.
Harry was watching all of them with a deep sense of fear now. He wanted desperately for them to stop talking about this, he didn't want to keep hearing about it, because the more they did, the more sure he was they were on the right track. Thankfully he was the one with the book in his hands, so he kept going loudly.
Hermione whispered his name quietly, and Neville turned around on autopilot as he began trying to ask what dinner would be.
"Don't think I could eat a bite actually," Remus sighed.
"He wasn't actually speaking to you, ya twat," James made his first attempt at a smile this chapter at teasing his friend.
Hermione asked if he was okay,
"Oh he's clearly peachy, and you," Sirius huffed.
Neville agreed everything was great, speaking of the interesting dinner and what would be for their lesson, err food.
Lily pursed up her lips so tight they went white. She'd already felt horrible enough today because of the confirmation of her death, which felt imminent at this point. To see the effect it had on her family was terrible to watch, but to see it even being put on another innocent boy somehow still managed to make it worse.
All three of them were watching him with a half terrified look, unsure of how to comfort him, when the clunking footsteps of Moody announced his arrival. He instructed Neville to come have a cup of tea with him.
"Aw," Lily cooed, her eyes finally shining with light other than threatening tears. "He actually recognized what he did bothered him, and he's trying to help."
"Moody's an old softie, especially on those he deems worthy," James gave a slight smile.
Harry didn't hear a word of this, because he was fighting back the urge to start swearing colorfully. Something about the idea of Moody trying to comfort Neville, of even being in the same room with him, set him so terribly on edge. He tried to lightly dig into this feeling, wondering if Neville was in danger and he should be worried, but all Harry felt was a sense of wronged. Had Moody done something to Neville? Bright spots were beginning to flash across his eyes from the pain of even doing this, and by the time he phased back into the conversation, he realized they were all watching him with real concern.
"Harry, are you okay?" Sirius got out first with something like genuine fright on his face. "You looked really ticked off there for a second, does Moody take away your broom or something?"
Harry shook his head sadly, sighing deeply before saying, "can't say, just know that bothered me for some reason. I'm sure it's nothing, I think I'm just worried Moody makes things worse, or something."
"That could be it," Remus agreed fairly. "He's not exactly the cuddly grandpa type."
"At least he's trying," Lily defended.
Harry gave them the best smile he could muster, couldn't quite hold it long enough to be believable, but still he pressed on reading before anyone could keep going.
Neville looked terrified at the idea and looked wildly to the trio, but none of them could come up with a way to protest. Moody turned to Harry and asked if he was alright, and Harry gave a defiant yes back. Moody nodded like this didn't surprise him, then turned back to Neville and explained he knew this seemed harsh, but they had to know this stuff. Then he began steering Neville away, telling him there were some books he'd have an interest in.
"Maybe if he was Hermione that would have helped," Remus tried for a laugh, which fell flat when he noticed Harry's unease at Moody giving Neville a book somehow seemed significant to him. What on earth could that be about?
Neville gave one last pleading look back, but followed in Moody's wake. Ron asked what all that could have been about, but none of them had an answer.
"I can't even honestly say I want to know anymore," Lily shivered, too many horrible thoughts fleeing across her mind.
They started walking towards the Great Hall then, Ron still talking about the lesson as he agreed with Fred and George, Moody really knew his stuff. He was still impressed by that Avada Kedavra curse, the way that spider had just snuffed it-
"That's right Ron, focus on the spider," Sirius said in a too high pitched voice.
but he quickly fell silent at the look on Harry's face. All three of them remained quiet as they made their way down to dinner, where Hermione began eating at top speed again before running off for the library.
"Missed but never forgotten," Remus said, meeting James's eyes fleetingly, but continuing as if in a joke with a rather forced smile he'd never admit to. "I'm starting to get the feeling that's just going to be the pattern for most of the year until she finds whatever's bothering her."
The boys ate before going up to their tower, where it was Harry who brought up the curses again, asking if Moody or Dumbledore would get in trouble for showing them those curses?
"The ministry doesn't interfere in Hogwarts," Lily shrugged. "It's at the headmaster's discretion what his students learn. Dumbledore clearly thinks you can take it."
Ron agreed they could, but Dumbledore has always been able to do whatever he wanted. They found their favorite spot by the fire and decided they should get started with their Divination homework.
"Well don't get too excited," James muttered, "it'll ruin all the fun of the work."
They went up to their dorm, to find Neville alone
"Oh good," Lily chirped, more than happy to be thinking on anything else now, even if Neville wasn't exactly a happy topic. "You didn't mention him at dinner and I was a little worried."
reading a book. He looked more like himself, though his eyes were a little red rimmed.
They all let out pitiful sighs, wanting to know what had struck him so bad, terrified of getting the answer.
Harry asked how he was doing, and Neville happily said he was doing fine now, showing off the books Moody had given him 'Magical Water Plants of the Mediterranean.'
"And Neville's best subject is Herbology," Remus smiled warmly.
"So Moody really did go out and help him," Lily crooned happily.
Harry put up a strained smile in agreement, he knew this was a very good thing that had clearly made Neville feel better, so what about the mention of this book was sending off alarm bells for him?
Professor Sprout had mentioned to Moody that his best subject was Herbology, with some pride now in his tone.
"Which should be there more often," James said fairly. "Everyone's got their strengths."
"He's been getting more confidence every year," Sirius nodded happily.
Harry smiled, pleased to hear that Neville had been cheered up like this. Moody slipping in Sprout's praise was a tactful way to do so, it was something Professor Lupin would have done.
Remus flushed bright red at the praise, but no one denied that they'd actually been thinking the same thing about him.
Harry and Ron went back downstairs to do their work then, which was tedious at best. Hours later of working on sums and symbols and they hadn't progressed at all.
"You're putting way too much strain into a class that you both hate, and is irrelevant to your life," Sirius snorted.
"Don't be like that," Lily scolded. "I don't like the class much either, but you don't want him getting a T in the class just to spite the teacher, that's like cursing your own nose to spite your face."
"I doubt he's getting a career to do with Divination," James sided with Sirius, "and everyone's got one flunk class. No need to deter him from more important things."
"It's not as if he's got any other homework to be doing," Remus sighed, "so it's good he's keeping his priorities up and doing that first."
"Why did we keep you around again?" Sirius snorted, now trying to get Harry to move on.
Ron finally suggested they just do the old Divination standby.
Causing all three Marauders to laugh at that.
Lily gave Remus the stank eye in particular, saying, "you'd just agreed with me he should be doing this, why are you laughing that he's not even going to be doing it properly."
"I agreed it shouldn't be ignored," Remus admitted with a smirk, "I never said to what degree. It's a class where for his final exam last semester he made up something. I think you can get away with the homework in the same style."
"Now I remember why we kept you around," James cackled.
Harry quickly agreed to the idea, and watched Ron begin jotting down on his parchment that on Monday he'd get a cough because of Mars and Jupiter. Then he reminded Harry that all they had to do was make it bad things, and she'd eat it right up.
"It's sad how true that probably is," Lily finally acquitted.
Harry started his own now, saying that on Monday for him he'd likely to be burned. Ron agreed that was true, as they'd be dealing with the skrewts again.
"Harry's obviously pretty good at this," Sirius snickered along, knowing it would be pointless to offer a few suggestions, but wanting to anyways.
Harry moved on to Tuesday, where he decided he'd lose a possession. Ron began writing that Mercury would cause him to stab a friend in the back.
Harry was starting to get an odd sensation at Ron saying that...had Ron just made a real prediction in the form of a joke again? It wouldn't be the first time, though he really disliked this one.
Harry wrote that on Wednesday he'd lose a fight, and Ron agreed on his own that he'd lost money to that fight.
"At least they're having fun doing their work," James beamed, "can't say that about too much homework."
Lily couldn't help a light giggle at that.
The predictions became steadily worse as the night wore on. Crookshanks joined them at some point, sitting in a chair and watching them with a disapproving look as if his owner were there instead.
"Even Hermione couldn't get at you for this one," Remus pouted, "she hates Trelawney as much as you."
"Wouldn't stop her from lecturing us on the proper procedures of homework," Harry smiled indulgently at the thought of his friend.
"Still love that cat," Sirius inserted with high amusement.
Harry was looking around the room for some inspiration when he spotted Fred and George off to the side, looking over some parchment with a quill.
"Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes again?" James asked hopefully.
"Their mum can't tell them off for it now," Sirius agreed happily.
Harry though wasn't so sure. He didn't know why, since his initial reaction had been that Fred and George would keep at their joke shop dream, so this would be a perfect opportunity for them. What else could it be about?
This was an odd sight, as those two were usually in the middle of everything, not tucked away.
"Best place to be," James sighed, trying to look back fondly at some old memories that hadn't been tainted yet. He and Sirius were the sort of spokespersons for the Marauders, always the center of every crowd, whereas Remus and...well he kept off to the side and preferred to stay out of the limelight, which was better for him.
There was something secretive about their behavior now, and Harry didn't think it had anything to do with Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes, as otherwise they would have invited Lee.
"Maybe, maybe not," Sirius shrugged. "It depends on how much they trust him as a business partner, or just an idea generator, or what."
"Maybe he's out doing something else at the time," Remus agreed, "and they'll show him later."
"Good ideas don't come at your own timing," James nodded sagely.
He wondered whether it had anything to do with entering the Triwizard Tournament.
"Now that I'll believe," Lily grumbled.
Harry though still didn't look satisfied with any of these answers. Something wasn't clicking right.
Most everyone had gone to bed by now, so though he spoke quietly, George's words carried across the common room about how they couldn't phrase it like that, it sounded like they were accusing him.
"Err," James said with a lot of unease that time.
"Accusing who of what?" Remus frowned.
"If we knew, you wouldn't have just asked," Sirius snarked at him.
Remus stuck his tongue out at him, but no one really could come up with an answer for what that could mean.
George looked up and around then, and Harry quickly turned away so that he wouldn't be spotted listening, but not moments later the twins went off to bed.
"Well that's not encouraging," Lily muttered as her face puckered up in thought.
"Accusing?" James repeated with a ruffled brow. "You think they caught someone doing something illegal?"
"Can't be anyone at the school," Sirius muttered, running his hand through his hair, "can't imagine why they'd write out a letter for that, they'd just confront the person."
"We haven't really seen the twins doing anything that none of the other Weasleys have though," Remus grumbled. "So when could they have come across this?"
"You think this is the same thing they were doing over the summer?" Lily offered. "Which means it had to have happened around the time of the Cup."
"The only difference there was the bet they set up with Bagman," Sirius shrugged, "and he paid them back."
"Maybe they're looking into whoever mugged Bagman," James said, clapping his hands together as he thought he got it. "We thought something like that had happened when Harry saw him in the forest, remember? What if the twins figured it out, and they're trying to get him to turn himself in."
Harry was starting to fidget a bit, getting the feeling they were definitely on the right track, but there was some glaring oversight that one of them had said that made the whole thing fall through. He couldn't imagine what though. He had seen Bagman pay the twins back, and Bagman had looked pretty tossed around, so surely his dad was right.
They were out of ideas for now though, so Harry kept going.
Hermione came in a while later, with a sheaf of parchment and a rattling box. Ron finished his homework with a flourish as she took her seat, and she automatically pulled his work towards her.
"I swear that's second nature to her by now," Harry chuckled lightly, happy to move on to a subject that wasn't depressing or didn't give him a headache, which is what the majority of this chapter had been doing to him.
Hermione sarcastically asked that they weren't going to be having a good month. Ron happily lounged back as he said at least they were warned.
Giving them all a light moment of laughter again.
Hermione was reading down the list and pointed out that he was drowning twice.
"Guess it can happen to the best of us," Sirius happily shrugged, while Harry felt yet another twang inside him, something about Ron in the water?
Ron reached over to change that to being trampled by a hippogriff.
"Now that's out there," Remus said mildly. "As you avoid the Forest."
"But he was forewarned," James said back with wide insistent eyes, unable to wipe the smirk off his face. "So now he would know not to go in there."
"You're all impossible," Lily chuckled.
Hermione told them that it was obvious they'd made these up,
"So?" All five of them muttered, as they doubted Trelawney could prove otherwise, or would care.
but Ron said in mock outrage that they'd worked really hard on these! Harry finished his as well, his final prediction being that he'd die by decapitation.
"Now that's a lovely one," James snorted.
"You should get an O just for that," Sirius nodded eagerly.
Then he asked what was in the box, and Hermione gave an annoyed look at Ron as she said how happy she was he brought it up,
"She can't even take a joke," Remus sighed, though admittedly intrigued as clearly they'd been right, whatever Hermione had on her may have something to do with her sudden house-elf fascination.
She took off the lid and showed them several brightly colored badges that said S. P. E. W.
"Spew?" James asked in confusion.
"Why did she make a bunch of badges encouraging people to put milk out their nose?" Sirius agreed.
"You're disgusting," Lily snickered.
"What, it's what people do when they-" Sirius began to defend himself, before James reached around Harry and whacked him to get him to stop, waiving Harry on so they could see what this was about.
Harry asked what spew was, and Hermione corrected you were supposed to say the letters, it stood for the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare
"And that is?" Remus asked with his head cocked to the side, must be something really new.
Ron said he'd never heard of it, and Hermione agreed that was because she'd just started it.
"Oh," all five of them finally caught on.
"Well, I guess I can see Hermione's line of thinking," Lily said slowly. "She couldn't find anyone to care about what was going on with the elves, so she started her own campaign. I rather like it," she finished, clearly warming to the idea.
"Could have gone through some better names first," Sirius snorted.
"Like you lot are any better," Lily said back stoutly. "Marauders? That's not exactly original."
"I blame McGonagall," James said a little too loudly, and Harry and Lily were a little surprised to see some strain coloring all three boys now. "She called us that during our first year, when we were all caught together the first time, and ah, it- it just kind of stuck-"
Harry turned back to the book quickly now, trying to keep reading loudly to change the subject. Neither him, nor his mother, really needed further explanation. Cleary McGonagall had called them that first, but if the boys reactions were anything to go by, it had been Pettigrew who suggested they use it as their group's name. Thinking back, they'd also mentioned it had been the rat's ideas for their own nicknames. It must hurt them dearly to have an almost constant reminder of how much he'd had to do with their life, and Harry wasn't going to let it linger longer than he could.
Ron asked how many members she had going, and Hermione said when they joined, three. Ron asked why he'd want to walk around with a badge that said spew.
"That'll get you attention at least," Sirius tried to get out around his gritted teeth.
Hermione again corrected to say just the letters, saying that she'd wanted to call it 'Stop the Outrageous Abuse of Our Fellow Magical Creatures and Campaign for a Change in Their Legal Status'
Remus forced his mind to concentrate on every letter, it was far easier to think on then other things at the moment, and instead said, "S. O. A. O. F. M. C. is kind of a mouthful, how would you even pronounce that?"
"Still think it would have been better she'd gone with that," James shrugged, "less easy to make fun of.
but decided that would be their manifesto instead, now showing them her parchment.
"It's actually rather nice to see she's trying so hard," Lily grinned, "if anything, I believe it will draw attention to what she's trying to do."
"For better or worse, let's find out," Sirius sighed.
She'd been doing research in the library since she got here, and discovered that elf enslavement went back centuries. She found it shocking no one had done anything before now.
Sirius opened, then closed his mouth, deciding he didn't want to start something with Lily again.
Ron said an extra volume too loud to get her attention, that they liked being enslaved!
Though thankfully he seemed to have Ron to say it for him, as Sirius gave a slight laugh. That'd been pretty close to what he was going to say.
Sirius managing to give a genuine laugh again finally managed to distract James and Remus from their school thoughts again, and Harry eagerly kept going now that he had their full attention.
Hermione kept going like she hadn't heard him, stating their short term goals, which would be to get house-elves common pay, and their long term goals were to include changing the laws for non-wand users and getting an elf representative into the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.
"Ironically, it's the short term goals she may have the most issue with," Remus said with honest interest. "As you'd be going directly into the house-elves way of life trying to get ahold of that. It's the other two that I can see her really making a change of, as house-elves aren't the only ones suffering those problems. She could rally more troops for that cause."
"I think I know what Hermione wants to do when she grows up," Sirius said brightly, "take on Lily's job in the Legislation department."
"She could be the next Minister of Magic," James agreed with only a small portion of that being mocking.
Harry asked how she planned to do all that, and she said their first goal was to start recruiting, getting members to join. It only cost two Sickles for the badge, she had a collecting tin upstairs she needed to give to Ron as he would be treasurer, and Harry was to be secretary, so he should start writing all of this down as their first meeting.
"Oh that's nice, tell me all this after you've said everything," Harry snorted.
"I just love how she automatically assumes they'll go along with this," Lily chuckled, "as they've given no indication before now they care."
"Good friends don't need to rely on their backup," Sirius said wisely.
Hermione paused for a moment to beam at them, and Harry was torn between exasperation at Hermione, and hilarity at the look on Ron's face.
"Can't deny I'd have loved to see that," Remus laughed.
They were saved from responding though by Hedwig tapping at the window.
"Yes!" They all couldn't help cheering. None of them would admit until this moment just how truly terrified they'd all been Hedwig wouldn't show up again, and the next time they'd get a mention of Sirius would be in the papers announcing his Kiss.
Harry bolted to the window, shouting how it was about time. Hermione eagerly asked what Sirius had written,
"Give him a chance to read it," James said with an undisguised sigh of relief.
but when Harry opened it, he found it was incredibly short. He chose to read it aloud, starting with Sirius saying he was flying back.
"You're what?!"
The baby began wailing in shock, but Lily quickly tried to soothe him down without taking her eyes off of Sirius.
James, Remus, and Lily had screeched that at about the same time, Harry had kept looking dumbstruck at the page, making Sirius wince and rub at his ear in pain, but he had a fighting look already set in place as he shot back, "good for me."
"Are you insane?" Lily got out first, she looked like at any second she was going to start strangling him, a menacing accomplishment while holding a child. "You can't come back, it's too dangerous for you. You're bleeding lucky those dementors aren't back at the school this year, but you still can't risk anyone seeing you on the grounds!"
Sirius was glaring around at all of them, clearly seething, but-
"I'm with Lily on this one," James surprised him by saying. When Sirius turned to argue with him instead, he found something quite surprising.
James looked almost fragile as he watched Sirius, a description that no one could usually give to James Potter, but he looked it now. Sirius reflected that after everything that rat had put them through last year, well the way James was looking at him now made it clear what he was thinking. He confirmed as much when he kept going in a still too tight tone, "I can't hear about you going back to Azkaban Sirius. Unless something really, really bad is happening, you need to stay as far away from Harry as you can."
"Harry's scar hurting again is a bad sign," Lily quickly agreed, "but there's no need to put yourself in extra danger until something more concrete happens." She was still trying, futilely, to deny that the Dark Mark was just as terrible a problem and would bring Sirius back just as much.
Sirius sighed as he glanced between the two, then he glanced at Remus who'd remained quiet through this. He however just shrugged, saying, "Look, I'm not judging you Sirius, you've got more than enough people in this world doing that, I'm just begging you to think for a second. It's not logical, in fact it's the opposite, not to mention it terrifies me! You really think I want to sit here and read you got yourself killed, well, being you!"
Sirius grumbled under his breath for a moment, but clearly outvoted he instead redirected, "okay, fine, but I don't know what you're all yelling at me for! It's not like I'm going to do this tomorrow!"
That at least gave them all a pause, recognizing that though they feared for his future, telling him off for this now really wasn't doing any good.
Harry at least managed to keep going without his panic bubbling over. Surely if they could convince him of this now, Harry could get the same thing through to him before he made it back.
News had reached his ears about what all was going on, and it was good that Dumbledore had put Moody in the school, at least he was reading the signs.
"What signs?" Harry asked.
The four of them exchanged unhappy looks, but they weren't going to lie to him either.
"Your war has started a lot the same way ours had, did," James sighed, skipping past the time jump. "Random disappearances of people, or at least one that we know of. Maybe it's just because we know who did kill poor Bertha, but I'm sure there's a lot more going on you're not hearing about."
"I'd like to think Dumbledore may be keeping me in on that loop though," Sirius kept going. "So maybe I know more than I put in so far."
"That Dark Mark probably gave you heart failure as well," Remus sighed.
Harry smiled around at them all, happier than he could put into words that they'd actually bothered to explain all of that to him. He wasn't sure why this in particular would mean so much to him, but it was nice they weren't trying to hide this from him at least. It didn't exactly put him back in a good mood as he kept going though.
He promised he'd be in touch, then signed off.
Harry was gaping down at the letter, while Hermione voiced her worry that he was coming back, and Ron asked about the signs?
Hedwig was sitting on Harry's lap, but gave a startled jump when Harry hit himself in the forehead, exclaiming how he shouldn't have told him!
"Oh come on pup," Sirius began whining at once. "You're first reaction to something I'm doing, is to turn and blame yourself."
"I don't want you coming back Sirius," Harry said at once with too wide eyes. "You're safer out of the country, and if telling you my scar hurt is what made you come back, and then you got-"
"Okay," Sirius waved him down, as Harry's voice had started edging towards shouting levels, mostly directed at himself, but with the baby in the room they were trying to avoid that. "Alright Harry, calm down. We've talked about this, remember? You cannot go blaming yourself for everything that I do." He had to speak a bit louder, as Harry looked to cut him off, "if hearing about something going on with you was a motivating factor in me coming back, then I regret nothing. Now give me some credit, the lot of you," he added on harshly as he turned hard eyes on everyone in the room. "I got away with it for a year, and I was only caught because of Snape."
Harry was still dithering, unable to shake this terrible fear he didn't want Sirius coming back, it would be best if he stayed far away, which would keep him alive. He clearly wasn't winning this argument in this timeline though, so he hoped dearly he would in Sirius' future.
Sirius frowned as Harry kept going, as he'd hardly agreed Sirius was right and this wasn't Harry's fault.
Ron asked what that meant, and Harry shouted about how Sirius was coming back because of him, now slamming his fist on the table and watching Hedwig hop around indignantly.
"Poor Hedwig," Lily muttered absently.
Sirius was coming back because he thought he was in trouble, and he wasn't!
"I disagree," Sirius grumbled, "you've got some real mental problems."
Harry shot him a nasty look, thinking this shouldn't be joked about, which Sirius matched back, as he'd argue tell he was blue in the face Harry was safer with him around.
The two sat glaring at each other for a few moments before Remus cleared his throat, and Harry turned back to the book with a touch of indignation.
Hedwig was clicking her beak at Harry in reproval, and he snapped at her that he didn't have anything for her! She took off with a shriek of protest, cuffing him in the head with her wings.
"Temper, temper," James sighed, unable to say he wouldn't be acting the exact same way Harry was in that situation. Sirius never admitted how dangerous his actions could be, and coming back was one they all but him agreed was a terrible one.
Hermione tried to soothe him, but Harry wouldn't hear it and stomped off to bed.
Harry knew that if Sirius came back and got caught, it would be all Harry's fault.
Sirius' hand twitched like he wanted to smack Harry for saying that, but Harry turned sharply and snapped, "I was just reading it, you can't tell me off for doing that yet."
"Exactly," Sirius grinned back, "I ain't done it yet, so knock it off with the attitude."
"You haven't denied that you would do it though," Remus sighed.
Sirius scowled at him next, but when he still said nothing to the contrary Harry continued in seething tones.
He berated himself why he'd even told Sirius.
"That I'll disagree with," James sighed. "I'm glad you did tell Sirius, he's the best person to have told, but his reaction to it isn't what we were hoping for."
"Well I'm so sorry my coming back is such a bother to you lot," Sirius snarled. "I don't regret it for a second though."
"And that's our problem," Lily snapped. "You won't admit that it's even vaguely a bad idea."
"Because I'm staying closer to Harry," Sirius ground out. "I don't know what you lot have been listening to, but you can't pretend that stupid first chapter never happened. Something is definitely up with Voldemort this year, and I want to be there for that."
"Please let me strangle him, just a little," Lily turned beseechingly to James and Remus.
"Not until he actually does it," James sighed. "If in fifteen years or so he does it all again, despite our warnings, then have at him."
"Hey!" Sirius pouted, though there was nothing mock about his outrage.
Remus at least gave a small laugh, though Harry still didn't look remotely appeased. His dad's joke had only been yet another reminder that Harry should be as adamant as ever about keeping Sirius safe, none of them could stand the thought of this future actually happening to him.
Ron came up moments later, but didn't try to speak to Harry. As the dorm fell silent, Harry's mind was too busy spinning to realize the absent snores from Neville's bed meant he wasn't the only one lying awake tonight.
"Chapter's over," Harry groused, giving the book a toss to Remus.

Experiment MJ001
TW: Drug and alcohol use. Mentions of drugs and alcohol use by minors.
Marjiuana is legal in my country. It has been for a while.
I’ve always been very nervous about things in my life. Not anything in specific, just things in general. I had spend so long being repressed by my parents, I had cotten it in my head that drugs = bad and since marjiuana = drug, QED marjiuana = bad.
Today, I decided to do something out of the ordinary and purchase a (legal) chocolate bar from the pot store and try it out!
So, I am currently high for the very first time in my life! (I’m in my late 20s)
I had an idea that I thought was brilliant at the time to write Wolfstar fan fiction about Remus getting high for the first time WHILE I was high and see what happened!
I also decided that I’m going to POST IT. Without editing it! (Pure, unadulterated chaos!!!) Now, for your viewing pleasure, the ramblings of a T on Pot. I have no idea if this is good or not. I haven’t read through it yet. I’ll probably wake up tomorrow, read this, regret it and delete it. But until then... enjoy!
((I’m sorry if it’s terrible!!!))
((I am also currently still high while typing this, so I apologize for any errors!!))
Remus had never consumed marjiuana before. Growing up, his parents had been very strict with what kinds of medication he was allowed to consume, particularly in regards to his lycanthropy. “You don’t know how it will affect the wolf, Remus.” “You don’t know what will happen…” “We can’t predict how the wolf will react…”
Magic had always been the go-to remedies for colds or maladies; Muggle drugs were never to be trusted in the LUpin home.
So when Remus got drunk for the first time, he made sure that his friends were around to help him through the experience.
Now, in his seventh year of school, Remus finally built up enough courage to ask his friends to, once-again, monitor Remus while he was testing the waters.
Remus sat with the three other Marauders, staring at the brownie in his hand.
“Are you sure this is safe?” he groaned, internally terrified of what may happen. The scent of the brownie wafted through the air, and Remus cursed his wolfish senses as his mind began convincing him that this might be worth it for the chocolate alone.
“”Yeah, I’m sure, Moons…” Sirius teased, licking his lips like a cartoon wolf sizing up a prized pig as he stared at his own brownie.
“Yeah, Pads and I have done this hundreds of times!” James chimed in, already  half way through his. “It’s fine!”
“You’re not werewolves,” Remus grumbled as he turned to Peter. “You’re the sensible one, Wormy. What do you think?”
Peter stared at Remus for a moment before breaking out into a smile.
“I say fuck it!” he said, taking a bite out of his own brownie. “You only live once, Moons!”
Remus closed his eyes, took a bite from his brownie, chewed and swallowed.
Nothing happened.
No big bang, no swirling in his brain, no sudden rush of feeling.
“It’s… not working?” He said, turning to Sirius.
“Give it a bit, Moons! It takes time to work! It’s like alcohol!”
“Okay,” Remus said with a shrug, finishing the rest of his brownie. “So… what do I do until then?”
Sirius shrugged, but his smirk gave him away. He sat back onto the pillows and blankets that they had dragged to the ground, his head resting precariously close to Remus’ lap. He grinned up at Remus before reaching for his wand and giving a lazy flick into the air.
Sirius’ record player began to spin, and All Along the Watchtower began playing, filling the entire room and seeping into Remus’ bones.
Remus laid back on the pillows, his head next to Sirius’. He closed his eyes and let Hendrix drift through his mind, trying not to let Sirius’ scent drive him crazy.
Remus didn’t feel anything.
Not for a while.
He didn’t think it was even working.
The boys had spent the next hour talking, chatting, chilling, as they usually do on Saturday evenings. They talked about girls (James complaining about Lily), boys (Sirius’ trists with that Ravenclaw boy), and everything in between (Peter’s insistence that, yes, James, he is still Asexual. And no, James, he doesn’t need to double check.)
Remus didn’t notice the time passing as he laid on the pillows next to his friends, for the first time in his life actually being able to participate fully. They normally spend evenings hanging out in the middle of the room. James and Sirius always got high. They had since they had discovered Muggle weed last year. Peter had partaken on occasion, but usually insisted that he preferred a couple of beers over weed. Remus, on the other hand, remained sober all night, watching his friends fall into various states of inebriation, testing their limits, seeing new sides of themselves.
This was his first time.
Remus smiled to himself, thinking about how much fun it is to participate, even if he didn’t know what being high felt like yet.
“What’re you smiling about?”
Sirius’ voice was practically a purr in Remus’ ear, and he felt his heartbeat quicken.
“M’not… Not really. Just… happy to be here with you lads....”
“Mmm, same, Moons. Happy to be here… Today’s a good day to be alive…”
“That’s a weird thing to say…” Remus rolled over and looked at Sirius.
Was Sirius always that handsome? Did his eyes always sparkle silver in their conjured lights? Did his hair always look that soft and touchable? What would happen if Remus touched it? Was his skin always so pale, so milky while, Remus had to resist leaning over and tasting it. Remus edged his arm over slightly, comparing his own freckle-dusted arm to Sirius’. One was slender and perfect and tattooed and lovely. One was broken and scarred and ugly.
It was no wonder Sirius never noticed Remus.
“Whatya thinkin’ ‘bout?”
Sirius’ voice distracted Remus from his thoughts.
“Mm? What’d’ya mean?”
I can see for miles and miles and miles and miles and miles…
The Who was playing in the background and Remus watched as Sirius’ head bobbed up and down to the music, a wide grin spread across his perfect cheeks.
“I mean you’re thinkin’ of stuff. We all are… I am… That’s what makes things so cool when you’re high… You think of stuff…”
Remus blinked. What was Sirius even saying? What had he been doing? Was he thinking? He seemed to be thinking…
His brain felt like the needle was skipping across the record. Or that more than one record was playing at a time. Everything that was said out loud was one record in one player, and a vision of him talking to Sirius from a bird’s eye view was another record. And the way the music blended into his brain was another record.
Was this what being high was?
“I’m thinking of the music… I guess. And… Mrs. Robinson…”
“Ha ha! That’s that one Hufflepuff chick, ya?”
“What? No… it’s… coo coo ca choo?” Remus closed his eyes. His mind was feeling a bit foggy.
Put it in your pantry with your cupcakes…
“Oh! Yeah! Jesus holds a place for those who pray…”
“Hey hey hey!” James’ voice came from miles away. Or across the room. To Remus, it felt like both at once.
“Yeah,” Remus said with a grin, rolling over onto his left side to face Sirius. “Coo coo choo, Mrs. Robinson….”
“BOYS!” Peter hollered from the other side of the room. “Hot Blooded! This is my jam!”
Remus grinned, listening as the sound of guitar filled the room. He tapped along to the song, watching Sirius watch the ceiling.
“What are you thinking about, Pads?”
Sirius tilted his head towards Remus and gave a wink.
“That I’m hot blooded,” he said, his tongue resting on his fang.
“Pfftt… You’re just a horny mutt…” Remus teased. He felt an immediate pang of regret as Remus realized that Sirius was likely horny for a certain Ravenclaw boy.
“Mmm, bet you are too. Not that you’d ever date anyone… But I bet you’re real bad, Moons… “
Remus rolled his eyes, trying to keep his heart from exploding from his chest with terror. Why was Sirius talking about how horny Remus was? That wasn’t something Sirius ever talked about.
“You know how it is… not allowed. The whole… furry little problem…”
Oooh, I’m picking up good vibrations, oooh she’s giving me excitations…
“I’ve told you, just date one of us…”
Remus chuckled, trying not to show how much he wished he could.
“Oh yeah, James would totally ditch Lily for me,” Remus teased, listening to the Beach Boys suddenly start the quiet part of Good VIbrations.
“I didn’t say date James…”
“Oh, Sorry… Peter then… Yup. That seems like a great idea…”
Good good good good vibrations!!
“Are those really your only choices?”
Sirius was on his side at this point, facing Remus head-on, giving a sly grin.
Normally, Remus would laugh this off as a joke and change the subject. Perhaps talk about the fact that Sirius had American Woman on his magical mixed-record.
Today was different though. Today, Remus was feeling a little bolder. A little dizzier. A little more capable of looking at the situation differently.
Most days, from the very beginning of his life, Remus had been taught to be small, demure, less than other people. He knew not to make waves or say what was on his mind, because he was not to draw attention to himself. Today, for the first time in his entire life, Remus was starting to understand what it felt like to be a normal person. Someone who wasn’t a werewolf. Someone who didn’t grow up being told that they had to hide themselves because of societal pressures. Today, he could suddenly just say whatever he thought and felt and there was absolutely nothing keeping him from saying it.
“I can’t very well date you, Padfoot. What would that poor Ravenclaw boy do without you in his life?”
“Who, Spencer? Nah, we were never an item. Just fooling around…”
“Fine then,” Remus said with finality, trying to shrug while on his side. Whoooo are you? Who who, who who? “I suppose you’re the only person in all of Hogwarts who I can date.”
Sirius grinned his wicked grin, inching closer to Remus, his eyes positively smouldering.
“I suppose so. Guess we’re to call it, then. We’re dating now…”
Whooo are you? Who who? Who who?
Aaaawww, who the fuck are you?
“Hear that Prongs,” Remus said, playing along with the joke. “Sirius and I are dating now.”
“Well it’s about goddamn time,” James yelled back.
Remus chuckled to himself, but when he opened his eyes, Sirius was there. In front of him, their noses almost touching… There was a moment…
Whoooo are you? Who who? Who who?
Remus inched closer, rubbing his nose to Sirius’, just playing along, just being silly, just keeping up with the game.
Sirius closed the gap.
Remus sank into the kiss, feeling Sirius’ lips against his own, Sirius’ tongue tasting like chocolate and pot, Sirius’ hands suddenly around his waist.
Then Remus pulled away.
Who are you? Who who? Who who?
“Who the fuck are you?”
Sirius laughed, pulling himself slightly away from Remus.
“I just wanted to see how far you’d be willing to play along! I didn’t realize you’d actually let me kiss you!”
“Fuck…” Remus swore, starting to feel angry at Sirius. “Shit... I thought maybe…”
“Maybe what?”
“Nothing…”
“Maybe what, Remus?”
“Nothing, Sirius.” Sirius’ lips were against Remus’ again, but the werewolf knew better this time. He pulled away, his eyes narrowing. “Stop dicking around.”
“I’m not dicking around…” Sirius whispered, his voice dropping low and rumbly. Remus felt a chill down his spine as House of the Rising Sun played in the background.
“Don’t kiss me if you don’t mean it,” Remus grumbled, before he had a chance to think about his words and and regret saying him, Sirius was kissing him again. Remus tasted his tongue and lips and the thrill of kissing someone he had wanted to kiss for as long as he could remember. Sirius pulled away, his eyes gleaming and ravenous.
“I mean it,” he cooed. “I—”
Before he could continue, Remus was pressed into Sirius, taking advantage of his inebriated state and lack of over-thinking.
“Get a room, you prats!” James called across the room. Remus didn’t care. He didn’t care about anything except the feeling of Sirius’ body against his own, Sirius’ hands around his hips, Sirius’ tongue in his mouth, Sirius’ teeth nipping his lower lip. Everything was Sirius.
Remus closed his eyes and lost himself in his Padfoot. He silently prayed that things could stay this easy forever, but deep inside, he knew that would be a dangerous path to head down...

A Second Chance Chapter 219
I received an amazing number of reviews on this chapter and I wanted to share them/address some of them here to show my immense appreciation for those who take the time to drop me a line or two for what I write.
Some of you have decided after this chapter you can no longer follow my story and while it saddens me, I expected it.  I write first for myself and I know where I want this story to go and while I hope you all keep reading it -- I know that not everyone will continue it.
Devereaux13: I can’t. You really just did that to us? Started this story with a oh! Sirius is gonna live! But NOO u had to frick us all over. Oh my god. I love you for this story but hate you for this story. I cried more this time than the cannon one. Goddamn
Lightningscar: Huh, well, judging from the reviews, this chapter is getting you a lot of heat... personally, I though it was great in many ways, both in action, description of thoughts/feelings and great descriptions of what was going on. My biggest beef, though, gotta be this: *Ginny grabbed Luna's hand and the two of them climbed onto the wolverine's back* Ehm, it is likely it was explained in previous chapters, and if memory serves, Animagi are generally slightly larger than their natural counterparts, but... a wolverine is generally about the same size as a medium dog, shoulder height being around 30-45 cm (12-18 inches), 65–107 cm (26–42 in) long (not counting the tail). Basically, Ginny and Luna are crawling on top of a Spaniel or a Golden Retriever (on the small size) Yes, wolverines are ridiculously strong compared to their size, capable of carrying prey many times its own size... carrying dragging it. One big difference between carrying something in its powerful jaws, compared to carrying something heavy on its back. A few other minor beefs Ehm, why did Voldemort pull a Jafar on the cat (Lady G, was it?) and not outright kill it? So they got giants wandering down mid London without anyone being the wiser? I'm sure you have thought of the logistics about it :) Well, all in all, great chapter. Things have advanced rapidly compared to canon, for better (less Horcruxes) and worse (Ministry bye-bye)... though, in the latter case, it can be interpreted somewhat ambigious. Fallen as in the place (which was a given, seemed to be completely overrun suddenly... makes one wonder where all of the defence forces went, guess we will find out sooner) or if it has fallen as an orginazation like they did in canon. Curious to see what happens next. Yours sincerely, Lightningscar
Menna Taha: Ok let me just say.. Sirius was going into battle with the intent to save his son, knowing that his Fiancée who he was very much in love with was pregnant with TWINS. I mean you’d think he would be more careful than in the books where he was reckless, lonely, rusty and under house arrest in a place he hated. Also the ministry fell! Just like that! After all the preparation and the relations with the french, Bulgarian and Russian ministries AND the fae and the army they made AND the warning they recieved! What were they fucking sleeping! I love you please don’t hate me.
They were not sleeping, but they weren’t prepared like they should have been.  It’s a problem that will be addressed.
HGRHfan35: Well...shit... This was a really bad idea: to read this in bed. How the blazes do you expect me to sleep, now?!
Daddy: WTF! Why end it here. WHY!
Wade Bradford: Noooooooooooooooo!
AZfangirl: i cant believe you killed sirius. this one really hurts
Ofglitterandgiggles: I’m broken
axelvaz: Started this about a week ago and I’m finally all caught up! But oh my gosh! What a cliffhanger! Sirius!
Emeralds and Rubies: I thought we might get off easy when Pettigrew fell through the veil, butI’m heartbroken for Harry and Zee, but you definitely did this whole plot point justice.
maximusrexmundi: Eeeeeehhhhh so I was with you until the very end. I just can't imagine a Voldy who is objectively in a weaker position (than in the books) being able to muster a force that could attack and defeat a FULLY prepared ministry who both knew he was coming AND had international allies
Runningtwiceasfast: I have to say I am incredibly impressed with this chapter. I am obviously sad as I was in canon when Sirius died but due to the more uplifting tone of your work overall that you would shy away from a turn like this. Sirius' death is so important in canon a it really is a turning point in the story. Obviously when Cedric died it was sad but Sirius' death made everything all the more real. Your Harry has gotten so much more of a life and childhood than canon Harry but he too is now faced with the reality of life without Sirius. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Joanne: Wow! I’m so sad. I’ve been listening to Led Zeppelin in honour of Siri. I had hoped that this part of canon would be ignored but alas. War is war. Amazing storytelling: you made us feel this loss and that takes talent. I both dread and look forward the next chapter. Will Harry take Ginny with him? Will the breakup occur? Did Remus and Tonks make it out? Will there be a funeral? So many questions! Enjoy your birthday and rest while we all grieve.
Ahugefun: I need you to undo sirius death. Im not joking He shouldnt Not with zee pregnant and harry so attached to him Its not fair to us the readers who enjoyed your story so much andddd already mourned sirius a little bit when he was kissed before you changed that.. Im hoping that you wont kill remus and tonks in the end of the war. U are your own story and if somthing happen in jkr world doesnt mean it should here!
Everything that happens in JKR’s world is what inspired me to write my story so of course it affects it.  Some will be the same, some will not -- includes character death.  Not everyone will die who did in canon, but some will, and some who survived in canon, will die here.
jakegarrett94: nooooooo not sirius
Leaf Ranger: ...I'm sorry...but this...this is exactly why I called fucking bullshit in the last chapter. Because of all this. This. My problem isn't the pacing of your story. My problem is all this death and carnage and bullshit happened...not because of something realistic...but because the Grey lady, for no reason, was a cryptic dumbass. That is my problem. While it'd be hard to swallow, I'd have accepted most of what happened in this chapter if there was an ACTUAL reason, in the story, as to why they weren't able to be told where the diadem was. but there wasn't. The only reason was solely because YOU wanted it that way. And it's your story, fine, but at the very least, there should be a damn good reason WHY, in the story itself, things happen the way they do. It should never...EVER be just because you, the author, want it to happen that way. because then it breaks the immersion of the reader, if something happens solely for the sake of you, the author, having it happen that way. *sighs* To be honest? I'm sorry, but this, this just is too much. You killed off Sirius and had the Ministry fall DESPITE the preparations they had already made, despite the warnings they had. That just...no. I'm sorry, but no. I'm done. Thanks for what was a pretty entertaining story up to this point, but after this? Just nope. It's not worth it. It really isn't.
Sorry to hear that, but again, it is obvious to us the readers where the diadem is, but not to them.  The Grey Lady can be cryptic if she wants as she’s dead and has nothing to lose, it’s up to our heroes to find the answer.  Sorry you feel it’s not worth it, thanks for reading as long as you did.
Redplayer1998: Please tell me it's a trick sirius can't be dead not after 200 chapters of building his character please no
Dutchie: Oh man Sirius died, bummer! Still a great story.
Whiton: Hey I’m a bit late but I wanted to say happy belated birthday. I love this story it’s fun it’s sad it’s thought provoking and is just a wonderful thing to read. Hope this finds you well and hope you keep writing.
AkashiyaHyrule: What the... this can't be it. What's the point of creating all that military platoons, and gathering allies-if the Ministry are just going to fall so fast? This feels waaay to early for this story plot to occur. But that's just my opinion. Hopefully you got a plan that works, and it's believable. It's also in my opinion that if Sirius Black's "death" is true (hope it's not), Zacharias should not be with anyone else or find someone else to replace him. I suspect you might do something of that nature. You haven't shy away from all the random romances that occurs, even in minor characters. Don't think I haven't notice your tendencies to ship characters! Anyways, it would be annoying, weird, not the same, awkward, and off-putting. I hope that will never happen. But then again, this your AU, so you have the final say on what you want to implement. I invested a lot of my time in this piece of fanfic, so I don't wish for it be ruined by very disagreeable choices (it's all subjective, of course). I mean no disrespect, as I know writing is a tough pastime, and you deserve to be commended for the amount of time you put into your AU. So, good luck. You deserve your break, and hopefully things will be explained Chapter 220! P.S: He's really dead, isn't he? I guess I would have to expect the death of Remus, Tonks, Fred Weasley, Colin Creevey, Lavender Brown (at least in the movies), Dumbledore, Snape, Moody, Dobby, etc, etc. P.S. Why the hell am I just naming character deaths?
Guest: There . Are . No . Words. Saz J
Guest: I, like so many other readers here, have absolutely loved the changes you have made to the story of Harry & Sirius - it has been a wonderful story that we have looked forward to reading every week. However, as much as I love your story, I am upset and disappointed that you had this last chapter play out the way it did. You have, for 218 chapters, written about great changes and strengths for Harry, all the others, and especially Sirius. To have this last chapter happen almost like the original version (book & movie) is a bit of a let-down to your earlier chapters. I will still look forward to reading your story, but maybe without the enthusiasm I have had this past year.
KittenWithAnAx: damn it! I'm crying! Why do I always hope that Sirius survive? even when I watch the movie I hope he don't die! I hate and I love you! yes A break is need! let us mourn in peace! my baby died! and I know that in two weeks I will be back! because I'm too curious and I love how you write! I will still mourning Sirius but I will be back... anyway I will go cry in the shower! have a nice two week break! (and Happy Birthday!)
Blitz90: Hello Breannie ! First of all, I wanna say that your story is awesome ! I really like many of the change that you bring to the HP world! Congrats on that ! Now, about chapter 219, nice chapter all around but I felt that the training they got change nothing but maybe because of the stress to fitgh Death Eater explain it to... maybe you can show me the light on this ? Second, the death of Sirius... I must say that I am disapointed about that. I know that you said in the beginning that it will be ultimately a Hinny story but for me, Sirius was the heart and soul of you fiction. Lets hope that he is just in shock or king of a coma !
Qarz: You put a lot of effort into this, writing so many words is nothing to sneeze at and it shows dedication. However, you don't seem to understand that actions have reactions. If you make changes in Canon then the whole story has to change to make any modicum of sense. You didn't do that and the more than 1.5m words are a waste since it led to the same place and somehow things are even worse than in said Canon. I truly pity those who read this huge story just to be disappointed.
nesciamema: Kinda disappointed by Harry's shoddy fighting since they've all been training for a while, the only one who seemed to be thinking strategically was Ginny before she was taken out. Hoping Zee doesn't miscarry and fights for the babies rights as heir to the Blacks. No way in hell should any Malfoy hold the title with what just happened.
goldenone: thank you for posting this on my birthday it was a great gift but also HOW COULD YOU IMA CRY
aj613: ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod I was hoping Sirius would be spared holy shit oh my god whyyy? Amazingly written as always, BUT WHY?! THEY WERE GONNA GET MARRIED AND HAVE BABIES AND HARRY CALLED HIM DAD I—
Rufus777: I understand why you had to kill Sirius. But it still makes me sad. Well written as always. I've been a fan since chapter one. I had forgotten about the Dursley stuff. Good on you to remind everyone of those memories. Keep up the awesome -rufus
kyle.grimm90: I am so sad that Sirius died again... I was really hoping he would survive this time. I love you story is so addictive but I wish that would have gone different. I was so excited he didn’t go through the veil I was jumping for joy and then wammm he died. I won’t stop reading but it killed me when he died.
Haillie: WHAT! OH COME ON!
yunkol76: HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Thanks for the present! Now time to enjoy another GREAT chapter
coloredwords: First things first. A very happy birthday to you. I hope you have (had) a wonderful day. Second I wish you no riot reviews for your birthday. As much as I want to know what happens next, I respect you too much to shout and riot. But what a chapter! Damn. When Peter fell through the curtain I thought for a second Sirius would be safe. But alas. My last hope lies within some time turner or time room miracle. And all of a sudden we skipped right to the beginning of DH. I'm so curious to see what happens next. Have fun writing and enjoy your two weeks off. I will be here, waiting patiently.
Fruitcake49: I would rather this entire chapter be a nightmare. Why do Sirius and Harry always get the short dirty end of the stick? Such terrible childhoods and Sirius has to die leaving Harry alone. I gotta tell you if anyone other than a character in a story were put under this much pain and unhappiness they would crack and cease to function. As much as I like this story, Harry needs Sirius. I'm tired of people killing him off.
Steelcode: NO NO NO NO NO! HE WAS GOING TO GET MARRIED...HE HAS KIDS! WHAT ABOUT HARRY'S KIDS! WHAT ABOUT SIRIUS' FUTURE! PLEASE TELL ME THIS IS ANOTHER JOKE PLEASE!
X.pix.X: Happy birthday, and great chapter
Undead Gothic Princess: you are mean and a god all at once! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time reading this, then took a sigh of relief when pettigrew died cuz I thought "hey, Sirius will be fine now, he survived!" then wham! I dont think he's really dead dead though. they'll either be a way so that it was polyjuice or maybe they use a time turner. something better happen so that he just appears through the front door/hospital wing and is like "whys everyone so down when my hansome face is here?!" please let it be true, otherwise I dont think I can go on in this cruel world xxx
HarryPotterLover2422: Such an amazing chapter! I have enjoyed reading this story for quite some time now and look forward to each new chapter. I am so sad with what happened to Sirius, but I am looking forward to what’s to come! I loved the Lucius called Theo his son that was amazing! I think one of my favorite things about this story, other than how amazing it is, is how you humanize especially the Malfoy family in terms of Draco and Theo. Amazing as always! Happy belated birthday! Can’t wait for more! ️
Leo: Happy Birthday! I was so excited to see that you have written this chapter, until I read it, I can't believe you've hit us with the double whammy. This chapter both made me cry and amazed at your incredible writing skills. I hope you carry on and finish this story. However, most importantly, please, please please, please, puppy eyes please can you post the chapter. I know you said you won't but imagine puppy eyes, you know you can't say no to that. Keep us the brilliant work.
I am imagining puppy eyes, but no, I’m sorry.
GoldenPotterFan: Chapter 219 and the first time I am commenting. Started reading this story between Christmas and New Year 2018 and read all chapters up to then by the time I went back to work. Since then I have waited for updates every week. Somehow, I don't believe that Sirius is dead. Just a feeling I have. I also think Lucius might be working against Voldemort while still not quite working for the Order. I would not be surprised if he saves Sirius somehow. I cannot wait for another update. PS Happy Birthday, I hope you had a great day :)
devonleney27: HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! Thank you for the gift of this chapter, sorry I didnt get you anything!
DoodleBug78: OMFG cannot believe that! Really?!
witchyromy: mmmm i would have thought that with the time living in the magical world, and all the extra training harry has done, with sirius and remus and mischa and the rest of the group as well in the extra defense lessons that this would have gone better, they almost only used stupify and some 1st year spells. The whole thing is 80% the same as the original... i have to say i am a bit disappointed.
Sorry to hear that, but I kept what I needed to keep in there for a reason and I hope you will stick around to see that, but if not, well thanks for reading.
Guest: Welp, I’m crying. I’ve been following this story for a while, and honestly didn’t expect to be so upset about Sirius’ death, again. You’ve done wonderful work at recreating this moment. There are so many tiny complexities in this rendition and I can’t wait to see what comes next. Hoping zee’s fall didn’t hurt those babies. Thank you for your work. ️
snowball0709: Happy birthday! Hope you have a great day:) Now to the story.. HOW COULD YOU KILL SIRIUS? This story is all about his second chance! And the wedding, the twins... come on, siriusly! I really hope you have something up your sleeve and that he miraculously lives somehow. Can't wait to read the next chapter!
Lolikiano: I'm so excited you posted early! I can live with the cliffhanger as an exchange! Your stories have inspired me to write my own fanfiction and I can't thank you enough for that! I'm looking forward to your next update in two weeks! P.S. I love the "Surprise" pregnancy (which i TOTALLY called when Zee got ill!) I can't wait to read Harry's reaction!
Maggie1874: I'm so sad and disappointed that Sirius died. I was really hoping he'd live in your story.
Krazyasibe: Happy birthday! But why would you do that! I love Sirius!
alix33: No need for anyone to shoot Nott senior in his undersized wanker, Ginny will just have bat bogeys coming out of it rather painfully (and satisfactorily for us readers) in a jiffy. Dumbles had sweet fanny adams to do with the six being able to turn into animaguses. I like Lady Godiva's way of dealing with Death Eaters far better than I do any of the light side's humans' only effective for a couple of seconds stupefying. That vile bitch Bellatrix killed Sirius! I wonder which charm was used on the statue which made it keep Harry away from Dumbles and Tom Riddle junior.
wheezing-reader: Happy Birthday! Your story is probably one of my all-time favorite fics! Saying that WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK! No. This is not okay. I'm not okay with this.
Josh: Can't believe you killed Sirius! Hope something miraculous is going to happen. This is supposed to be about "A Second Chance" for him, so he needs to be alive!
Menna Taha: Happy birthday! But still how fucking dare you
jmdaz44: I know Sirius canon-ly dies in the fifth book but I was hoping you’d spare us somehow, especially after the proposal and pregnancy. Instead you were just fattening us up to be slaughtered. You’re cruel. I love the story and your writing but it hurts. It hurts. I truly hate your Bella. I should have waited to read this until this evening because now I feel like my whole day is ruined and it is just starting. I hope you’ve got something feel-good planned because I’m pretty down on this right now. I guess that parallels where we are in the story; things are getting real and nothing is for certain anymore. Hope is a dangerous thing.
alyson3il: First of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope you have a wonderful day, and short hiatus to get everything straight! Second of all, WHHHHYYYYYY?! WHY? Why? Y? y? WHHYYYY! I thought Sirius would be SAFE, you lured us into security with Peter, but then it just HAD to happen. I got my hopes up that it wouldn't be him, he had Zee, he had the twins on the way, HE WAS GONNA GET MARRIED! I get that things happen, BUT THIS THING DIDNT NEED TO HAPPEN, or maybe it did. You're the author, you have a plan in place, and you know what you're doing. I'll just be hurt for the next two weeks.
Miss Elyon: 1) Happy birthday dear ! All good for you! 2) Thad Nott - It was too late! (I loved that Lucy killed this son of a troll) And Wormtail ... I'm sure you will be very well received in hell! 3) Bella ... fucking crazy bitch ... something will come to you and it won't be pretty! 4) More importantly - You made me cry so fucking hard with Sirius. I went into depression until you post again. I truly love your story (although it makes me cry like a baby!). The pain at his death was more brutal than the book. I know you have something planned (I hope) and I will be reading (with a sniffling nose) the next chapter! To cure this chapter I'll read the whole story again and cry all over again ... I think I like to suffer ... kkkk See you in the next chapter ;)
chefke: o.m.f.g. omfg. I'm freaking out
xcherry91x: OMG NOOOOOO! I was hoping that Sirius wouldn’t die. I cried when I read that. The babies! They gots no daddy
SuperBossy: Not happy at all.
rolly21: I can’t believe you killed Sirius. I was really hoping that you wouldn’t.
LilyBlack18: I was so not expecting that. I was sure Sirius wouldn't die . My god, reading his death again was pure torture. At least Harry still have Zee, Remus, etc. I'm so sad, though... I really thought you wouldn't keep that part of the story, and you gave me false hope when Peter died x)
greg.is.wilson: You are evil.
Mutt N. Feathers: Yes my dear, I do trust authors. Needless pain is never inflicted by them. I made readers think I killed Sirius too, but instead had other plans. You love him too much. I live in hope. Mutt
supersandman86: Oh man! Not Sirius! He just got his life to perfection. Loving son, a fiance and a child on the way. Nice to see Wormtail redeem himself by shoving zee out of the way and Thaddeus got what he deserved. Now we just need to give Crouch and Bellend Lestrange pain that even they can't endure. This was always the dark point in the whole franchise in my opinion, where Harry felt the most hopeless. Let's see how it goes.
Sirius black411: You are so cruel...so so soooo cruel. They were going to get married...have twins and raise them.. How could you?! I can't imagine what Zee must be going through but she is still there for Harry. She will be a great mother.
Wodril: This Sirius didn't really seem like the guy to be done in while taunting. Not being hit by the killing spell, and the whole "he'll writhe in pain as he dies" spiel makes it a bit more uncertain. I never really appreciated him coming back to life after the dementors, and kinda hope, for the sake of the story, he'll stay dead this time. He will probably show up as an inferi anyway?
Jewels46: Omg... I’m crying! You’ve reduced me to tears. I know it was a very real possibility, but I hoped it wouldn’t actually come to fruition even though I understand the significance. I do really like how you wrote his death though, a much more fitting end. The bit you added with Peter had led me into a false sense of security that the lovable mutt would be safe. I just can’t even right now. Wonderful chapter. I’m going to cry some more and eagerly await the next one
Dianne: Yes I need atleast 2 weeks to emotionally reconstruct myself after this bombshell of a chapter. Deep breaths in and out. Curious about how you've brought a 7th year canon event now itself. I'm not sure I even took in everything coz I was crying so hard and couldn't read clearly, was reading this at clg and I surprised everyone by suddenly crying out loud and sobbing :'( and everyone was baffled when I said one of my most favourite characters just died painfully and I was crying for that, but they don't understand the power of reading or the power of HP thankyou for an early update and kudos you're an amazing writer!
purplevictory: That wasn't nice. I mean, happy birthday and everything, but did your present to yourself really have to be the torture of your fans? I know Sirius will be fine, I just don't know how you're planning to get there. Thank you for the early chapter. But, when your birthday celebrations are over you really ought to write "I will stop being mean to my readers" 50 times. You don't have to use a blood quill.
Write lines as punishment?  I don’t have time for that, I need to write the next chapters.
xXMizz Alec VolturiXx: Noooooo I can’t believe that after all this you still killed Sirius! When his life was finally all good with babies on the way!
eternal king of fire: wow this chapter was a tear jerkier poor sirus and zee
speedsONEandONLY: No. Nope. No. I refuse to see this as a real chapter. None of this happened. I mean what was the point of letting them be happy, of getting rid of the Horcrux early. Only to fucking destroy them. To make him want to sacrafice, kill himself anyway. This chapter didn't happen. This is a "what couldve been" I doesn't make any fucking sense. Nor does it for the narrative. So, No. I refuse to think, Believe, You could be so heartless to characters/people you love. That you made us love. I don't see anyway how the story Could really go on, if this chapter actually happened. It reads more like the last Twilight movie from when Aro rips off Carlisles head. Sorry, but no.
Sorry, I guess I’m heartless.  Comparing me to Twilight though, that’s heartless.
Ari Black-18: I know that this is a war, but please let Sirius escape death again, don't do this please, please make this better, tell me that Remus and Tonks somehow save him, tell me that even tho he is in bad condition he's still alive, don't leave his twins and Harry without a father, don't live Zee without her love, don't rip away Remus's brother from him, give him a second chance from the original story, let him be there with Harry at the end, the world it's already too shitty for it even to suck in a fanfic. Call me naive or delusional, but I actually believe that this is not over, I trust you enough to know that you wouldn't do this, your story it's to damn good to lose such a character just like that, so I know you are going to fix it, you're going to pull a surprise under your sleeve and make us love it so much. I believe in you, I mean you wouldn't just kill Sirius like that, not this Sirius, your Sirius. I trust you, I know you wouldn't do this. Please enjoy your break, chill, eat a lot of snacks, maybe even party a little, and then, please, bring our uncle Siri back.
Seriuslypadfoot: Hey Breanie, very well written as per usual. I hope Sirius isn’t actually dead, as this story is one of the few Sirius and Harry fics that I have thoroughly enjoyed and don’t want his character to end this way. Powerful moment with Malfoy in this chapter, but I wish he showed more backbone and fully went against the death eaters like his family wants. Again, hope Sirius doesn’t end here, the death will really hurt the story in my opinion. But this is your story so write it how you will. Thanks for your hard work!
Thank you!  Malfoy doesn’t have much of a backbone, but I do have a plan for him.  I’m sorry you feel that Sirius’ death hurt the story, I think it’s important for what’s next.
DetroitNate: A review? I hated this chapter. Oh the writing is great as usual, but what happened in it? I hated, loathed, detested it. I hope justice comes and comes quicker than Hinny did in this story cause it is getting too difficult to read of how these vicious bastards seem to get away with anything they want. JKR did two things I can't stand in canon kill off Sirius and Fred and now I'm wondering if this story will follow her on that pattern... I hope not, I really do.
Thank you and I promise, justice will come quicker than Hinny -- as in it won't take another 197 chapters, maybe 196, just kidding!
Paola1991: So is this death for real or is he coming back? I mean you tricked us once. I guess i kind of assumed you’d never kill him off because it was kind of a sirius fix it story? Where he gets a better life? This took me by surprise. Its primarily why i hate book 5. I thought someone else was gonna die instead. Hes the one character i would never kill i guess. Especially with zee having his kids! Not sure how i feel.
Guest: can i honestly beg something? can you please bring back sirius alive? please? i know u wont do it.. u have a plan with ur story... but as a big big fan of ur story im really really begging will u please?
Queen Raja: Wow. And I thought the book’s death was heartbreaking! Seriously, bravo. I don’t cry easily, and this chapter made me UGLY cry! Waiting until two weeks will be very hard, but I’m glad you’re able to take some much deserved time for yourself and Dusk. Happy Birthday, Breanie!
Maisie: how and why could you do this to mee im cryinggg please say its looking better in the next chapter
midnitewanderer: Dumbass went and reread it. Not gonna lie, it was a brilliant chapter but I am still this close to hunting your ass down and forcing to rewrite Sirius back in. Where’s my angry emoji when I need it. I can’t help but feel that you wrote Zee the way you have specifically for this chapter. Not only does she come into their lives and becomes the best pseudo mom ever written in any HP fanfic, she basically adopts Harry into her entire family. Sure there’s stories out there with the Weasley’s treating him as one of their own but not like this. ZEE’S ENTIRE FAMILY ADOPTS HARRY. Your sneaky ass has been prepping us from the beginning of her intro! He calls them all Grandad/Grandpa, Grandmama/Grandma, etc. so that eventually he sees that he’s never truly alone. Then enter the Weasleys, McGonagall, Rem&Tonks, Andi&Ted, Dumbles, Nev, Lu, Mione, he’s surrounded by so much love. I just know the next chapter is going to be hard for me seeing as I’m a crybaby but damn it to hell, I can’t wait. 2 whole weeks. What am I gonna do?
Thank you.  I guess I was kind of sneaky like that, wasn’t I?
Zacnelson0628: Breanie... I kinda had a feeling that was going to happen. Still really sad though. I hope you kill of bellatrix in a spectacular manner.
I will do my best -- I do know exactly how it will happen and who will do it.
notthatchhavi: Oh, wow!  I don't know what to say!  This was a extremely well-written chapter When Lucius said that Theo was his son...it was such a moment I went ooooooohhh Well other then that..I cried I literally cried when Sirius died and yes I am still in denial I hope atleast Remus and Tonks will be okay.. Harry needs some support from one father When Sirius died.. it broke my heart.. Harry calling Sirius Dad.. and Sirius saying that Harry was the best thing ever happened to him I feel that he was not saying that just to Harry.. it was to James too because the Potters were the best thing which happened to Sirius I feel really bad for Zee...being pregnant with your fiancée's children and then him dying is not an easy thing to go through But the most importantly...this chapter made me cry I have read many fanfictions.. but i have never cried.. they might have been super good.. but has never made me cry I think the ability for a writer to make the reader both and laugh and cry is extremely important and difficult...I think by this story you have proven yourself as a damn good writer
Having Harry call him dad was vital and every time I tried to change it, I came back to it.
josht1987: Just know, that I am very mad at you you right now. We'll see what happens after the next one. An extremely well written chapter, but... You know what you did.
Daerwin45: not Sirus oh please he is so important it was going so good im sorry i am just a fan and it has been such a great story i did not mean to question your reason. i just was enjoying harrys and Sirus' relationship.
PotterBlondie: Oh my god, I wasn’t expecting Sirius to die! Or for anything to go this badly in one chapter! I hope he gets to escape death again? Pretty please? I hope you had a wonderful Birthday!
midnitewanderer: Nope. I’m done. I’m done. I AM FUCKING DONE! I will have no more toilet tissue by the end of the night. My chicken is currently burning on the stovetop. My emotions are freaking fried right now. Not only was he... UGH! I can’t. I literally can’t right now. I know this is fiction and whatnot, but my heart is hurting. How in the hell did I get so emotionally invested in this damned story?! Now, I’m going to remove my burning chicken and cry in a corner.
scrappy8: OMG what a chapter Poor Sirius is gone
Covley Hatake: Please let Sirius some how had lived. I like cheered when Pettigrew went in the veil instead and then that. You like ripped my heart out with Sirius. Like come on. Still good story but wanted Sirius to be there for the happy ending. I picture Harry though being the best big brother to those babies and protecting the hell out of Zee and the babies. Betting she tells Harry soon as well. Also question if he is dead what does that mean for them claim the Black title? With out him to claim them they would be seen as illegitimate and as the deal with Malfoy was made he could take it? curious on that one.
akshutalankar: well this is a really bad chapter to be posted on birthday... plz give us next soon... make Sirius alive pretty please
shooter124: O my god, I am crying. Please don’t take Sirius from us, Zee needs him and so does Harry! However that death scene was crazy good. I’m hoping that you have this elaborate plan as to why Sirius had to fake his death or something. Please please please say he is still alive, Sirius and Zee have not finished their story yet and Remus needs his best friend. This is my favourite story I have read on FF, you are a fantastic writer and I get excited every time you post!
Wolf's scream: Nice set of Bat-Bogeys, Miss Weasley! Yeah, a ticked-off wolverine is NOT something I'd prefer to cross. Greengrass is there? That's ... something I was not expecting. Yeah, Theo's advice to smash the Prophecy seems pretty sound to me. (With the possible caveat that certain DEs might lose whatever semblance of control that they have...) Seriously, Hermione? That's not a "baby." And in any case, Petrification is not intrinsically harmful: it merely decreases the probability that the Petrified one will pose a danger to himself or others. Sheesh. Somebody needs to get her priorities sorted. :-) I'm a little surprised that the DEs that trapped the teenagers in the Brain Room were using less-than-lethal spells. Granted, I'm rather glad that they did, but I don't understand whys. Well..! Lucy IS good for something, I guess... It's rather a pity that Harry hadn't smashed the Prophecy and grabbed another as a decoy. :-} Oh! What would happen if Harry were to chuck the Prophecy through the arch...? Ah - excellent move, Lady G! :-) Remus was dueling Dolohov? But Harry had Petrified Dolohov just a bit ago... maybe another DE released him, or the spell wore off? So - the Rat did something useful before departing... BTW, a fairly effective dueling technique might be to blast the floor/ground out from under one's opponent. Or merely make it incapable of supporting the opponent's weight. Especially if one is in a structure and not on the bottom floor. Well, at least there's no ambiguity at all regarding Sirius's fate. :-/ Well, laughing at Bella is a pretty good way to ensure that she's even more off-balance, yeah. It's good that Dumbledore addresses Tom by his given name (vs. the nom de guerre that he made up)
Guest: You cant do this Sirius can't be dead! Please let him live! P.S. happy Birthday Seriously though bring Sirius back.
dhnysports88: for the love of god tell me they planned to fake his death, DON'T DO THIS TO US
minerdude: Wow this is a great story, even if you killed Sirius, although with the next chapter I hope we discover thinking he was dead was part of the fog of war. If Sirius is dead it was truly well written to get our guard down by sending Peter though the veil
Old-fashionedAnglophile: What. The. ACTUAL. HELL?! Are you trying to destroy us? And you're making us wait for it? Damn your excellent and captivating writing. I'll be waiting for the next chapter with bated breath.
Thank you (I think).
littlehughesy: WHY? Why must you keep killing off characters that I love!? It's like Game of Thrones all over again! I get that it is canon for Sirius to die at the Ministry, but for fuck's sake can't Harry just have a little less suffering for once? For the love of God, if you kill Remus and Tonks in this story, I am done. Just done. I cannot handle my emotions right now. Okay, venting over. As much as I don't like it, your story is still fantastic. And hey, cheers for the early update and happy birthday!
Atea1793: You... are... absolutely... evil... YOU KILLED SIRIUS, KILLED DEADALUS DIGGLE, LEFT ZAHIRA A PREGNANT WIDOW BEFORE SHE EVEN GOT MARRIED, MAY HAVE LEFT HARRY AN ORPHAN AGAIN, AND HAD THE MINISTRY FALL A WHOLE YEAR EARLIER THAN IN CANON?! I'M STARTING TO THINK YOU'RE AS SICK IN THE HEAD AS VOLDEMORT IS! Excuse me while I spend these next two weeks gathering a mob to go after your twisted ass. The Death Eaters will seem like playground bullies when we come for you...
Guest: Omg. Omg. You actually killed Sirius. I cried. I honestly would have rather see Remus die, but maybe that’s what makes this story stronger and more intense. I definitely need 2 weeks to process this. Poor Zee and poor Harry.
lcwintersoldier: Goddamit how could you kill Sirius :'(
LifeonEarth: Oh come on you hand to bring Marauder into this. This hurts.
I’m sorry, but I thought Marauder deserved to be in Harry’s thoughts.
White Squirrel: Why does everyone feel the need to kill off Sirius even when there's good reason for events to play out differently? Honestly, this whole section felt like it wasn't up to your usual standards. You copied so much from the book, even when they had different people there and a different plan. It would have made more sense and wouldn't have been that hard to choreograph a different battle sequence.
I felt that it was important to keep it similar which I will explain later on, but of course you’re entitled to your opinion.
love reading20613: Oh god no please no
alistark94: What an ending! I gotta say I'm suprised you still killed off Sirius. Great story by the way!
Anixara: Wow, I find this story just in time for the latest chapter to be THAT. God damn it. Now I have to figure out if waiting for the next chapter is even worth it with how much that fucked with my emotions.
Breaniefan: This was so unrepresentative of your characters to just shove them back into JK's exact plot. This Harry would never have been so impulsive, Ginny and Theo would have escaped, the well trained Order would have been quicker on the mark and more effective. This was just lazy writing, taking so much of the original story and just shoehorning it in - I'm so disappointed! Also why the fuck would you kill Sirius? The whole point of fanfic is to FIX those stupid character deaths from the original, not go and do it again. I've followed this story from the start and loved it, but if Sirius is still dead next chapter... You've lost a reader.
I’m sorry that I’ve lost a reader over this, but as I said, I knew he would die from the first chapter.  Harry would be that impulsive because Ginny was kidnapped and there's no way he wouldn't try to save her.  She and Theo may have been able to escape but not unscathed.  I don’t believe that fan fiction is made to “fix” stupid character deaths because the original story is amazing and I’m getting the chance to play with the characters we all love so much and Sirius had a second chance on life and he lived it.
Adelite: AAAAH. aaAAAH. I came here for a BETTER WORLD and you killed SIRIUS BLACK of ALL PEOPLE and just when HE LEARNED HE IS HAVING TWINS?!?? I swear to god AaaaaahahahAH the original didn’t hurt this bad I read 219 chapters in 2 weeks just to be welcomed with this I am absolutely gonna riot and also what happened to Tonks? P.S if you kill Rem, Tonks and Fred in the battle of Hogwarts I will personally pee your pants
Pegg7: I can not believe it!!It has been chapter that i'm saying something bad was about to happen, but not this bad!!!!!The only think i can do now is wait and speculate: you had wormtail die through the veil and not Padfoot, so, maybe, there is a chance, i have hope! By the way, the chapter itselff is good, nothing less to say... I'm going to have a lot of speculation as how the thing are going to be next, so i'll dread this 2 next weeks Love you (a little less) as always
lovelyellie: that really hurt my feelings damn
phoenixmaiden13 (Lady Phoenix): I so hate this chapter, yet it was so good. Still can't believe you killed off Sirius, I thought he was safe for a minute but I guess not. At least they will have a body to bury. I'm going to go cry now.
They will have a body to bury and I hope that chapter makes you all feel the emotion as much as I did writing it.
MrToddWilkins: But he is still alive! The blood-Harry’s right!
Bosma18: Happy birthday but why did you have to kill Sirius he was one of my most favorite characters he and zee where supposed to marry and live happily ever after I wanted Sirius to die of old age while being surrounded by his grand children
Jmcglynn522: You killed him.... you killed him... he just found out that Zee was preggers, with twins(FYI: Taking antibiotic potions and birth control potions = Twins. Mine just turned 20.).And there’s no do over this time....no time turner.... just... you killed Sirius Black.I love your story, I’m bawling hysterically right now, but I don’t like you very much at the moment.... you killed him....why??? (Happy parts: Ginny preforming the “bat bogey hex” on Thaddeus’s dick for Theo! Lucius killing Thaddeus for hurting Theo, “his son!”. Ron touching “Uranus”. Lady G not dying. Zee not dying. And Pettigrew’s death was to kind.) And Happy Birthday!!!(Even though I may be traumatized for life.)
Pettigrew’s death may have been too kind but I think it was an important turning point for him in that he saved Zee for Sirius.
LordSmidgeon: I'm hoping so much all this was pushed in his head by Voldemort after the brain room to mess with his psyche. I'm hoping he comes to and they are just getting him away from the veil. Or it was all what he saw in the veil. Like honestly, if you have to have someone die please dont kill Sirius (at least not yet).
Siriuslover: Im in denial. He’s not dead.  How could you kill Sirius!! He was the main reason I’ve loved reading this!! Ugh please take it back I’m so sad
kellykat1889: Your evil.
RiverFord: I think I’m going to need two weeks just to recover from this. I’ve absolutely loved this story so far but you literally just killed off my favorite character and I can’t even...
archiveScrapper: Happy birthday! I'm a long time reader and first time reviewer, but I finally felt like I had something to say (plus wishing you a happy birthday is important). I'm actually weirdly... proud? of you for keeping Sirius's death at this point in the story. In the books it's kind of the point at which Harry has to officially grow up, and realize that even though he's a kid, he's the center of a really vicious war where his actions have very real consequences. And he has no one left to fully protect him either. Even in a fic where Sirius matters a whole lot more, and Harry is gonna be a thousand times more hurt by his death, that moment of change, and of Harry accepting his inevitable place in this fight is really important? So I just wanted to say that as much as I'm really sad about Sirius being gone, because I really did enjoy him getting to be happy for once, i think it's an important moment for the story and I'm really happy that it's one that you kept even in a version of this story that's a lot happier than the original story ever was. I've been wondering how you were gonna handle this moment for a long time now, and although I'm definitely gonna go cry about Sirius's death now, I'm really happy with what you decided to do.
xXQueenOfDragonsXx: NONONONONONONOSIRIUS! I WANT TO HATE YOU SO MUCH RIGHT NOW BUT I CANT ‘T
TheOneWithWritersBlock: Please tell me this is a dream. Please tell me that Sirius didn't actually die. Please tell me that the ministry hasn't actually fallen. Please tell me it's all one big giant nightmare.
leflemmeenrose: Happy birthday!A break is definitely needed. I'm gonna spend it crying until you upload the next chapter haha. Take your time.
Zerius: Yay! Pettigrew's dead!I am struggling so hard not to say I hate you. I don't actually, but why did you feel the need to kill off Sirius?! He was Harry's family, he had Zee, he was in love, he had such an amazing life and now... Now he's never going to see Harry and Ginny get married, he won't see his children grow up... And Dedalus Diggle? What was the meaning of his death? Why did he have to die? And so cruelly... I love the new battle though. I've got a love/hate relationship with this chapter. Great job, can't wait to see what happens next. Please heal Sirius! Maybe he's not actually dead? Maybe there's a cure? Please say there's a cure! Again, amazing job! Update soon! I love it!
LaureWithAnE: I don’t really like you at the moment. But, happy birthday! How is it, after 17 years, the death of Sirius Black still makes me cry?
PurpleLotus (Person of Earth): Why did you have to kill Sirius? I just can't even process everything that happened. You made me cry and my heart is broken for Harry and Zee and the twins. I don't know what is going to happen and it's killing me. The ministry fallen already...I have no words for the desolation I feel. You have emotionally annihilated me, so congratulations. I understand the need for a break, I will be waiting impatiently for the next update. Happy Birthday and Happy Writing!

Chapter 4 : Oh, Just a Little Bit Wrong
Flashback to 8 years ago… James was about to go on his first date with Lily Evans, Sirius had been disowned and kicked out by his family and due to reasons he remained unaware of, Remus Lupin was no longer talking to him… and things were about to get a hell of a lot worse for them both…
Soooo I may have gone a bit nuclear on the ANGST level here, apparently... oops!!!!

(That’s me thoroughly ashamed of myself!!!)
But if you are okay with angsty marauders, read on....!
Chapter 4 : Oh, Just a Little Bit Wrong
“Any plans for today?” James asked, flopping down on the 🛋️ opposite Sirius.
“No,” Sirius replied, without looking up from his 💻.
“Why don’t you come to the gym with me?” said James.
“No thanks,” Sirius said.
“Coffee shop? The Italian one you 💛?” persisted James.
Sirius shook his head.
“Pads, you’ve been hiding away in here for weeks now, you need to start getting out a bit more,” said James frowning. “Mum and dad are 😟 about you.”
Mr. & Mrs. Potter adored Sirius. He had taken to spending more and more time in their 🏠 over the years, and they had welcomed him with open arms, treating him as part of the family. Now that he had been disowned by his parents, Sirius had been told to move in permanently. James was right, they were all concerned about his wellbeing. Sirius was looking decidedly thin, he thought. His usually tight jeans looked baggy on him, his hair unkempt, his eyes dull.
“I’m 😟 about you,” he sighed.
“Don’t worry about me, s’fine,” said Sirius, leaning back on the arm of the sofa.
“God Sirius, when you do that 😔 😁 that doesn’t reach your eyes, it cries out that you’re fucking miserable!” said James, leaning forwards and clasping his hands together.
“Psychobabble,” muttered Sirius, closing his eyes. “🆗, fine, I’m miserable. Plenty of people have had their hearts broken. My family are all horrible and they’ve always hated me, nothing new there. And I wasn’t even in a relationship with Remus, I’ll get over it soon enough, don’t worry.”
“Fucking Lupin, wanker!” muttered James crossly.
Sirius opened his eyes again.
“Don’t you dare bad-👄 Remus,” he said tight-lipped. “He’s not obliged to go out with me.”
James opened his 👄 to protest and thought better of it. Remus Lupin had been downright rude and obnoxious, refusing to even speak to Sirius since that night.
“Any word from Reg?” he tried, immediately regretting it.
“Not. A. Thing.” said Sirius darkly, drumming his fingers on his thigh. “I’ve tried contacting him on Facebook, texted him, even emailed him and tried to call him. Nothing.”
James grunted angrily.
“I’m ⚰️ to him, 🆗? I don’t exist, erased from all records of the Black family. I looked at Reg’s Facebook page before he blocked me and all the photos with me have been deleted, any childhood pics gone. Same with my cousins, and obviously my fucking parents…”
“Fuck!” said James.
He hated 👀 Sirius like this – hurting, vulnerable, rejected. He wanted to fix everything for him. Do something. Anything. But he couldn’t. He had already tried to contact Reg himself, tried to corner him leaving Grimmauld Place, to no avail.
“Alright, look, come on, let’s get out of here for a few hours,” said James, trying a new tack. “I need a distraction before I meet Lily in town later on.”
“Nervous, Prongs?” smirked Sirius, momentarily diverted.
“Yes, you bastard, sod off!” James replied, throwing a cushion at Sirius.
“Fine, only cause I’m an excellent best friend,” said Sirius, standing up unenthusiastically. “But I need a 🚿.”
“You really do, you stink!” said James, grinning.
“Some best mate you are!” said Sirius, rolling his eyes.
James smiled happily and headed for the kitchen. He was famished. Rooting around in the fridge he took out a protein drink and switched on the 📺, which he rarely 👀. He was about to stretch out on the sofa when he heard a long, urgent ring on the doorbell. Wandering to the 🚪 barefoot, he threw on a 👕 over his running shorts. When he opened the 🚪, his 👄 gaped.
“may I come in? Please, it’s urgent. I only have a few minutes.”
It was Sirius’ younger brother, Reg. He looked harassed and fearful, carrying a sports bag, wearing 🕶️ and a ⚾ cap, and glancing over his shoulder repeatedly.
“Come in,” said James immediately, stepping aside.
Silently Reg entered the Potter’s 🏠, standing uncomfortably in the hall.
“Can we stand away from the windows please? I’m concerned I may have been followed,” he whispered.
Nodding swiftly James brought him into the library where the curtains were already drawn.
“What’s wrong, Reg?” he asked bluntly.
“Everything. Everything’s fucked,” he said.
His breathing was shallow, and James was pretty sure he was starting to have a panic attack.
“It’s 🆗, you’re safe here, Reg,” James said, squeezing his shoulder. “Sit down, I’ll get you a drink.”
“No time,” rasped Reg, taking deep breaths. “I need to talk to Sirius. Immediately. It’s a matter of life and death.”
Those brothers certainly had a flair for the dramatic, thought James.
“I’ll get him,” said James, turning to leave.
The 🚪 of the library opened, and Sirius came in, a towel wrapped round his waist, hair and body still dripping from the 🚿.
“What’s going on?” he demanded, looking from Reg to James in agitation. “I thought I heard your voice.”
“It’s… I have to…” Reg froze.
“For God’s sake, tell me Reg!” yelled Sirius, grabbing Reg by the shoulders. “Did they hurt you?”
“They will when they find out what I’m doing,” said Reg, locking eyes with his older brother. “I’m going to the media with it.”
“Fuck. What did you do?” asked Sirius urgently, his grey eyes piercing.
“I’m telling them everything. That new wonder drug that was in the news recently, Salazar, the one that was meant to be a miracle cure for MS sufferers?” said Reg.
“Yeah, James’ parents’ lab was developing it originally, I know, what about it?“ said Sirius, looking confused.
“That’s right,” said James. “Some whiz scientist, Tom Riddle, was responsible for most of the work, he’s supposedly a total genius. My parents sold it to Slytherin Pharma two years ago, Riddle had said he needed more investment to complete its development and refused to continue working for them. They weren’t keen cause they knew your parents run that company, and there have been rumours about unethical practices for decades, but nothing was ever proved. Riddle made them feel guilty, saying they were responsible for depriving sufferers of a potential cure for MS. The share price for Slytherin Pharma shot up in the past few months, as the research papers published recently supported the hype. I don’t get it… that drug was due to be launched next week?”
“It won’t be launched now. Not if you agree with my plan,” said Reg, turning to Sirius. “It’s all a lie. I heard Riddle talking to mother and father about it. The drug has serious side effects, it causes potentially lethal problems. The 400 people who were involved in the trial are starting to develop liver and kidney complications.  Riddle said he thinks they will all develop organ failure. Riddle has lied to each of them so they each think theirs is a one-off case and told them they have randomly developed an autoimmune disorder unconnected to the drug. He’s referred them to a consultant who is as shady as he is and who is involved in the cover up. No doubt our parents are paying him handsomely for his help. They’ve decided not to call a halt to the development of the drug, which ethically they have to. They plan to release it onto the market as planned, so the share price will continue to sky 🚀. Then they plan to sell Slytherin Pharma to one of the big American drug companies that has been interested in a possible take over for the past nine months. The side effects only become apparent after around a year of treatment and they are permanent. When patients start to die, and the law suits start, it won’t be their problem any longer. They plan to transfer the 💰 into a secret offshore account, so nobody can touch it. They may get fined, but they’ll probably lie and declare bankruptcy, if needed, and nobody will have proof they knew about these problems. Riddle has altered the blood test results; the data any investigator will find is all fake.”
“Fucking hell!” said Sirius, staring at his brother dumbfounded. “They can’t do that!”
“Oh, they are doing it, trust me,” said Reg. “I confronted them about it and they confirmed it. They think I’ll stay quiet as otherwise we lose everything. They also threatened me if I go to the media. Said Riddle has contacts who will make sure I end up ⚰️ if the story is leaked.”
“What?” said James, looking horrified.
He had been listening to the story in shock. His parents, his poor parents, were going to be so upset. But this?
“I wouldn’t put it past them,” said Sirius grimly, eying his brother with concern. “You need to disappear stat, hide out in Europe till this whole thing blows over. You can’t afford to hang around, too dangerous, give me the proof and I’ll do it immediately,” said Sirius.
“They don’t know that last night I managed to get into father’s 💻 and sent myself all the incriminating data, it wasn’t difficult when his password is England4theEnglish,” said Reg bitterly.
“The slogan for the Nationalist Liberation 🙌,“ said James, looking disgusted. “Should we not call the police?”
“Afterwards,” said Sirius. “My parents have connections everywhere, old Eton ties, family loyalties going back hundreds of years. I bet they have contacts in Scotland Yard, or even in MI5.”
“Agreed,” Regulus stood up. “I need to leave, I don’t want to put you in danger.”
Sirius shook his head.
“Reg, don’t! Is there anything I can do? Come with you?”
“No, it’ll be much easier to escape notice on my own. I’m not as extraordinary looking as you are, pretty hard to blend into the background when you look like a male model!”
Sirius rolled his eyes fondly.
“Just promise you’ll release this before they can stop us!” said Reg.
Sirius nodded.
“How do you know you weren’t followed?” asked James.
“You don’t. We need a disguise!” said Sirius. “And I have just the thing, from a recent fancy-dress 🙌!”
………………………………………………
A slim woman with long blonde hair and 🕶️ emerged from the Potter’s 🏠 a short while later. She slung a Hermes bag into the front seat of the maroon coloured vintage Porche in the Potter’s driveway and drove off at a leisurely pace.
“Who’s that?” said Crouch, training his surveillance equipment on her.
“Some posh bird, probably Sirius’ girlfriend,” shrugged Lestrange, speaking into the hidden 🎤. “We stay put till they move, and then we don’t lose them, especially Regulus. We were told to cause serious injuries today as a warning, and kill him if he leaks the story to anyone.”
………………………………………………
The Guardian’s UK News Editor, Kingsley Shaklebolt, couldn’t believe what he was hearing from Sirius, but a quick scan of the data sent to him was convincing enough for him to make a decision. The Black family were often in the media due to their huge wealth. Walburga, with her stunning beauty and eerily preserved youth, was always noticeable at society gatherings, and the brothers’ good looks resulted in their photographs being splattered Everywhere. Sirius was instantly recognisable as legit. This was going to be a massive story.
“Sirius, I’ve seen the data and that YouTube video of your brother summarising what happened and what he was told. I’ll contact all media outlets, it’s going to hit the headlines immediately.”
…………………………………………
The doorbell rang and both Sirius and James jumped.
“Fuck!” hissed Sirius. “Who the fuck is that?”
“Don’t know,” said James, advancing towards the 🚪 warily. “Sirius, can you lock yourself in the library and call the police straight away? I’m better off playing dumb and pretending Reg hasn’t been here, I’ll keep them occupied till the police arrive, yeah?”
“Fuck!” said Sirius, glaring.
How bloody helpful, possible heavies at the 🚪 and him with nothing but a towel wrapped round him!
“Move!” said James.
He opened the 🚪 as the library 🚪 clicked shut.
“May I – oh, it’s you,” said James, staring at Snape’s scowling face in the porch. “What do you want?”
James glanced nervously around and cursed Snape, he needed to get that idiot out of there as soon as possible, given they might be getting an unpleasant visit soon.
“Charming as ever, Potter,” sneered Snape, looking positively livid.
“I’m in a hurry Snape, what do you want?” repeated James, keeping his voice stern.
“I want you to fuck off and leave Lily Evans alone, do you understand? We are dating, in fact we live together. She was too intimidated to say no to your request for a date, so she asked me to tell you. I believe her exact words were to tell you to fuck off and leave her alone, or she’ll contact the police and get you charged with stalking her,” said Snape, looking triumphantly at James.
“What the ever-living fuck?” said James, looking completely bewildered. “Look, I don’t have time for this 💩! I will certainly clarify with Evans when I meet her if this bullshit is true, or if you’re a lying git. Alright? Now get the fuck out of here!”
He stepped forward menacingly. He had to get rid of Snape, and fast.
“Don’t you threaten me, you entitled, little stuck-up bastard!” shouted Snape, as without warning he aimed a 🥊 at James’ face.
James fell backwards, and his head hit the floor with a thud.
The library 🚪 flew open and Sirius emerged looking like thunder.
“You greasy fucker!” he screamed, still only wearing the white towel, holding the poker he had just picked up and advancing ominously. “Get the fuck out of here, or I will personally beat you to within an inch of your life!”
Snape looked at him in fear and began walking backwards.

((Mod post!! Gonna answer some questions for me that have been sitting around for a while, sorry the response is so late ;w;
Everything’s under the cut to save space 0w0 ))
Anonymous said: Okay but totally loving the concept of Michael as Gil and Jeremy as Oz??? Like, freaking Alice is Christine (even tho its totally a personality clash apart from the childish aspect but shhhh) and just yes
YEAH MAN...any type of PH crossover is good hhh but GOSH imagine Michael like. After growing up and spending ten years looking for Jeremy like Gil did ahh my heart aches!! And Jeremy coming back pouting like “You’re taller than me now that’s totally not fair, M” Christine would make a really cute Alice I think, just seeing her dress up like Alice and having her kick ass as the B-Rabbit?! Hell yeah!
zekromztk2 said: Out of all of the Pandora Hearts characters, who is your favorite? Mine is... probably either Alice or Oz
HELL I LOVE GILBERT I’D DIE FOR THAT MAN LEGIT;; I love Oz and Break a lot too and! RUFUS BARMA AS WELL I ADORE HIM
Anonymous said: did I hear Harry Potter?
Ye man talk to me about the Marauder days any time I love talking about Sirius, James and Remus getting into shenanigans at Hogwarts hoo boy
Anonymous said: (Hey mod, so basically Jake and Rich are just gonna be background characters with kind of their own stories?)
Yes! Jeremy and Michael are the main focus here, but Jake and Rich sort of have their own thing going on in the background as more minor characters to the overall blog! I want to make a more developed backstory for the treasure hunter girls and Christine as well, so we’ll see how that goes~
Anonymous said: Thank you so much for introducing the novel this AU is based on to me!! Now that I've finished reading, I understand a lot more about this AU and now I want to ask... Would you consider Mr. Heere/Reyes as Morrow?
You’re very welcome, it’s a great novel so! I’m glad more people are reading it after having run into this blog, I must spread the pureness that is Aech to all of humanity //shakes fists And yes! Mr. Reyes is Morrow, I can imagine him sort of contributing to the hunt with lots of theater related things, which Christine specializes in! Book!Squip is Halliday, and there’s actually a little more about that and his relationship with Jeremy that I want to get into later.
Anonymous said: ((I had literally never heard of ready player one but I lov this blog so much I actually went out and bought it. Consider me murdled dead))
Yeah man like;; I didn’t read the novel until this past summer and after that I just got so into it and BMC at the same time so? I combined the two and here we are! Aaah I’m so glad!! Like I’ve said before I love it when people come tell me they went out to buy the novel and read it because of me, it makes me so happy :’) Hjrhjd please don’t die lol
emibeani said: ((I just finished reading Ready Player One, and thank you so much for this blog.))
I’m glad to hear it!! And you’re very welcome, I honestly didn’t expect so many people to get into but I’m super appreciative of all the interest you guys have shown so far so?? Thank you!!
Anonymous said: THIS IS NOT A ASK, BUT, OMG, THIS AU IS FUCKING PERFECT.
Glad you like it, ty! ;D
aslyn-is-artsy said: Your art is absolutely amazing
Hrhrhgfh I’m blushing thank you wow;;
aslyn-is-artsy said: Thank you so much for showing me this amazing book. I now aspire to become the real version of Art3mis. Just with short blonde hair instead. ;)
No problem!! It’s such a fantastic read and I was honestly blown away by it, so yeah...! Haha yeah I love Arty! She’s such a badass character and she doesn’t put up with any of Wade’s shit, which is great, she’s so empowered and I adore her
theitalianscribe said :I don't remember if this was answered, but is Michael trans male in this au?
Nope! I mean if you want to headcanon him that way that’s fine, I won’t stop you! I’m not going to endorse that since I myself don’t see him being that way, but you all are entitled to your own opinions so! And even if he were trans that wouldn’t be the main point of the blog anyway, I’m focusing more on their actual relationship, not their sexuality or gender or anything like that ^^
Anonymous said:i checked the book Ready Player One out from the library just because of this blog! are there any other books you recommend? (i havent finished the book but i like it so far i think!)
Oh nice!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Ahhh hmm well if you like supernatural teen stories, there’s a series called Darkest Powers by Kelley Armstrong about this girl named Chloe who finds out she’s a necromancer after being sent to a “troubled teens” home, and she meets these boys named Simon and Derek who also have special abilities and then all sorts of crazy things happen! I first read it back in high school and I still love it a lot, so yeah it’s a trilogy and all of the characters are really great so! (I looooove Simon like. So much.) Check it out if you have the time, it’s a good read!
kitikat101 said: Random potential song parodies: I Love the OASIS (I Love Play Rehearsal), Find That Egg (Be More Chill, pts. 1 and 2), Two-Player Game (but with Joust), Oases In My Head (Voices In My Head)
Kit can I say how much I adore these song titles they fit so well I’m really tempted to make parodies for all of them, absolutely brilliant
geeklychic1012 said: So are we allowed to send in fanfics based on this blog? (Cuz I submitted one but my wifi is shit and I think Tumblr might have eaten it haha)
YES!! Please do I’d highly enjoy reading stuff from you guys! And yes I saw and it breaks my heart like. Why. I’ll post it soon for everyone else to see too! They must all suffer as I have hfhdjhgjg
Anonymous said: Who would be I-r0k in this au? Or would I-r0k still be his normal jerk self?
I’m actually...not sure :0 There aren’t enough characters in BMC to properly cross over with all the rest of the RPO characters so;; I might have to go through the BMC novel and find some obscure background character to sneak in as I-r0k lol, because I would like to have all of the RPO characters replaced by BMC counterparts, if that makes sense!
theitalianscribe said: Does someone else take Halliday's place in this au? Also, do the gunters have a shared obsession with pop culture from a certain time period? What time period?
Yeah, I mentioned that up above! But Book!Squip takes over the role of Halliday, and musical Squip is Sorrento, of course~ Honestly I’d say like, probably the early 2000s, since that was when I was growing up and I can actually make references back to that time lol? I mean I love the 80s as well, just as it is in the book, but I feel as if I don’t know enough about that time period to actually. Make proper references and constantly. (I mean I could ask my parents who lived during that time too but;; haha.) Most of the stuff on here are me self-projecting, like with video games, books, and anime, that’s all me lol
Anonymous said: " “You don’t need to sell me on anything, Wade,” she said. “You’re my best friend. My favorite person.” With what appeared to be some effort, she looked me in the eye. “I’ve really missed you, you know that?”My heart felt like it was on fire. I took a moment to work up my courage; then I reached out and took her hand." aka perfect au is perfect how does it fit S O well
!!! yEAH MY DUDE I LOVED THAT PART and just imagining Michael saying that to Jeremy I wanted to cry;; I don’t even know but the INSTANT Aech was introduced I was like “Ohhh man. I’m getting major BMC vibes here” and bam, a week later this blog was born lol
Anonymous said:Would you be okay with cosplay of your character designs? I can't do one anytime soon, but they look really cool (and jerm's hair honestly looks fun to do)
YES!! OH MY GOD I’d probably die of sheer happiness if you guys cosplayed these dorks! If you want I could draw a character ref sheet so you actually get a proper look at their outfits! But yes I’d highly enjoy that;; like the cosplay doesn’t even have to be accurate I’d still love it anyway, and doing things like acting out some of the asks here (I’ve seen it be done before and it’s so cute!) would be totally okay too! But yeah as always TAG ME or submit it here so I can see it aaaa I’d love love LOVE that! ^^
Anonymous said: SPECIAL BOY SPECIAL BOY SPECIAL BOY SPECIAL BOY SPECIAL B
YEEEEEAAAAA IT’S ABOUT TIME I MADE AN OUTFIT FOR RICH RIGHT I LOVE HIM SM
maysurprisedyou said: Hi! This isn't quite an ask, but!! I started reading Ready Player One because of this blog and it's really interesting so far so thank you!! All of your posts seem to make my day ahah <3
Oooh I’m happy you’re liking it so far, I’m glad my blog inspired you to read it! And aaAAAA that’s so sweet I’m?? Hhhhfh thank you! :’)

I love you you amazing person💚 can you do a one shot of the crazy family life that Ariel and Harry might have had eg, a younger Ariel and Harry playing with Sirius and Remus as James and Lily watch and then boom! Severus shows up to take Ariel for the weekend! It would make my day!
“Again!”
That was all Lily had been hearing from the incredibly hyper soon-to-be-five-and-six-year-olds since she and James had walked through the door. Leaving Remus and Sirius in charge for a few hours usually wasn’t cause for any concern, but today, Ariel and Harry were acting like they’d been given and endless supply of sugar. As Lily and James had waltzed in the front door, greeted with an extra-loud chorus of “MUMMYDADDYMUMMYDADDY,” they’d nearly become victims themselves, only Remus and Sirius had been able to intercept before the groceries they’d been carrying had gone flying.
“How long do you give them?” James asked out of the corner of his mouth as Lily handed him the milk.
Her eyes flickered through the archway and into the living room. Sirius was holding Harry at bay with a minor levitation spell, but Remus didn’t seem to be having any such luck. He’d made the terrible mistake of Transfiguring flower pot into rabbits to keep Ariel occupied, and she was demanding more.
Lily grinned as Remus groaned. Ariel didn’t seem to care much for his obvious discomfort; instead, she tackled him to the ground when he tried to put away his wand. Remus fell back with a dramatic shout of surrender, though, it did sound a bit more relieved than anything else. He’d lie there, with Ariel on his stomach, and fall asleep, if she let him.
“Another hour, at least.” Lily nudged James’ arm. “You could go give them a hand. I’ll put away the rest.”
“No, I’d feel bad.” James said quickly. “It’s no problem.”
She snorted. “You’re awful.”
“It’s part of the godfather-bargain.”
Lily quirked an eyebrow. “Bargain?”
“They get the title, but they have to handle the dirty work.”
“I heard that!” Sirius growled from the next room. “There was no such agreement made. Come and wrangle your kid, Prongs.”
“I don’t want to ruin Harry’s fun.” James called back. “It would keep me awake at night.”
“I’m going to spike your tea – that’ll keep you awake at –”
Before Sirius could finish making his empty threat (or maybe it wasn’t – Harry was climbing his trousers to get on his back now) Lily heard the lock from the front door click. James’ head immediately whipped towards the sound, but Lily let out a breathless little sigh of relief as both kids stilled.
“DADDYDADDYDADDY –” Ariel began before Severus even stepped inside. James grimaced, and busied himself with the groceries with much more interest than Lily had ever seen him use before.
“DADDY!” Ariel shrieked, flinging herself out of Remus’ hold to run to Severus. He bent down and caught her, like he always did, lifting her into his arms. She wrapped her tiny arms around his neck, giggling as Sev kissed her hello.
“Uh oh,” Sirius said, his lips twitching as he stood, finally putting Harry atop his shoulders. “watch out, the fun police have arrived.”
“More like calvary,” Severus said dryly, making his way over to them as Ariel continued crowing. “it’s a wonder you haven’t lost the boy by now.”
“Oh please,” he snorted. “it was one time, and hasn’t happened since.”
“Once is more than enough.” James gave him a sharp look before Lily could.
Sirius gave a sheepish grin. “Believe me mate, you’ve let me know.”
“Daddy, Moony is making fireworks!” Ariel squealed, leaning over to get a glimpse of Remus, who was lifting himself up off the group, where Ariel had left him. “They’re for Monday – Harry’s turning five! Are you gonna come and watch? Can you stay the whole day? Mummy’s making a cake and inviting everyone, but I want you to come so you can see the fireworks.”
Sev kissed the top of her head again. “We’ll see. You’re very excited today.”
“That’s because I’m going home with you! Right?”
"Right,” he glanced over at Lily and James. “This is my weekend, isn’t it?”
Lily nodded as she stood, smiling as Ariel beamed from Sev’s arms. His grip around her tightened when she nuzzled his neck, giggling into it.
“How was France?” Lily asked him, trying not to smile knowingly as she leaned against the wall. He hadn’t wanted to go, the idea of spending two weeks a country away from Ariel not appealing to him in the slightest, but Lily had encouraged him to take some time away to get a better foothold in the potions world. It wasn’t exactly a competitive career path, especially with Sev’s talents, but he was made for better things – better than co-running an apothecary.
Sev scowled. “What do you think?”
“I told you you’d love it.” Lily’s smile broke through.
“I didn’t ‘love’ it.” he rolled his eyes. “It was, however… extremely beneficial.”
“Did you miss me?” Ariel piped up.
“Hm… perhaps.” Sev smirked.
“I missed you, Daddy. Mummy said you’d be back soon, but you were gone for sooo long that I thought you maybe got lost. James said might’ve fallen in a cauldron and gotten stuck, but you’re too tall to fit inside one, so I told him he was just being silly.”
James snorted, and Severus looked like he was trying hard not to say something – he stayed quiet, but Ariel didn’t seem to mind. Instead, she started playing with the buttons on his robes.
“Will you be coming Monday, then?” James asked, nonchalantly.
Lily elbowed him in the ribs. “You’re more than welcome, Sev. We all want you here.”
Before he could answer, Ariel tugged on his hair. “What’d you bring me from France, Daddy?”
Sev deadpanned. “Who says I brought you anything?”
“Cuz it’s almost my birthday.” Ariel said, very matter-of-factly. “I asked Mummy for a kitty, but she said not till I’m bigger.”
“Why in Merlin’s name would you want another pet?” he smirked. “You already have your stepfather.”
Ariel giggled madly into her hands. Lily gave him a look as Sev gave James the faintest of lip curls. They never went at it when Ariel and Harry were around, which left them to make small jibes disguised as witty jokes in front of the kids.
Lily gave him a strong, disapproving look. “While we’re on the topic of things she can’t have – no potions, please. The fumes make her hair oily.”
Sev looked offended. “What else am I supposed to do with her?”
“I wanna do potions, Mummy!” Ariel protested, racing over to tug at her dress. “Daddy says I need practice if I’m gonna be any good when I’m big!”
Sev smirked smugly. “See? You’re going to deny her the only joy I can offer her?”
“That’s depressing.” James said out of the corner of his mouth. Lily elbowed him as Sev shot him a dirty look.
Lily sighed. “No poisons.”
Severus gave her a scandalized look. “I would never.”
“Ariel told me you do – she recites them in her sleep.”
Sev glanced down at her. Ariel gave him an adorably sheepish grin, the same one that she used on James when she wanted seconds for dessert. It had the same exact effect on Sev that it did on him.
“No spying for you when you’re older.” Sev frowned. “They’ll sniff you out in a second.”
“No, that’s because she actually does smell.” Sirius made a face. “She was playing in the river out back earlier. Remus and I were going to bathe the two of them, but we couldn’t get them to stay still.”
Lily sighed, looking down at Ariel, who quickly hid behind Sev’s legs. “What did I tell you about playing back there?”
“I was playing mermaids!” she protested.
“You said we were playing spies!” Harry screeched from Sirius’ arms. James and he burst out laughing as Lily took him from Sirius’ arms, bouncing him comfortingly.
Ariel pressed herself deeper against Sev’s legs, pulling his robes around her so that her face was hidden.
“Mind your mother.” he ticked her elbow. “She’s the smartest person standing here.”
She peeked out. “Sorry, Mummy.”
Lily’s face softened – Ariel might’ve had Severus under her thumb, but the one-eyed apology was her own kind of kryptonite. “I know you are, love. Come here.”
Ariel immediately ran out and wrapped her arms around her legs, grinning as Lily gave Harry to James. He reached for James’ glasses, sliding them down his nose. Lily bent down and picked her up, relishing the tiny sigh into her neck Ariel gave, like she was finally back where she belonged.
“I’ll miss you.” Lily pecked her on the cheek. “Be good for Daddy, alright?”
“I’m always good for Daddy.”
Sev snorted. “In what universe?”
“She’s always good for me,” James said loudly.
“No, she’s not.” said Remus.
Lily ignored all of them. “Give me a hug, love.” she gave Ariel a tight squeeze. “I’ll see you Monday, okay?”
“Okay Mummy.” Ariel started playing with her hair. “Daddy and I are gonna make a potion that turns me into a mermaid.”
“Sounds good,” Lily kissed her one more time. “listen to what Daddy says while making it.”
“I will.”
Harry whined from James’ arms. “I wanna go now!”
Sev looked at James – James looked at Sev. Then, they both looked at Lily, who darted her eyes to Remus. He looked like he was trying hard not to laugh.
“Another time, love.” Lily said quickly. “Say goodbye to your sister.”
Lily (reluctantly) lowered Ariel down to the ground so that she could make her usual rounds. As always, she nearly tackled Remus to the ground, earning herself one last spin through the air before he handed her off to James, who was handling a squirming Harry.
“P.U.” Ariel said as he set Harry on the ground. “he does smell.”
“Just like you,” James teased as he scooped her around the middle, ticking her stomach as she screeched in delight. “Don’t have too much fun, okay?”
She stuck her tongue out at him, but kissed the tip of his nose.
Sev smirked, kneeling down as Ariel raced back to him. “Ready?”
Ariel gave a jerky nod as Lily Accio’d her overnight bag from her bedroom and handed it to Sev. He took the bag with one hand, picking up Ariel with the other, and gave Lily a nod.
He never said goodbye. It was almost like it was too hard for him to do so.
“Alright, I think Remus and I can take care of Harry.” Sirius said, appearing as disgruntled as James was as Sev disappeared back down the hall. “Team effort yeah?”
“Good luck.” James muttered as they carried him away.
Lily leaned against the kitchen table. “Moping isn’t going to make you feel any better, you know.”
He looked away. “I don’t like it… but she’s happy. That’s all that matters, I guess.”
Something nestled under her heart, something strong that Lily had kept with her for the past six years.
“You think they pick up on it?” James asked her. “How weird this all is?”
Lily paused, and heard Ariel babbling excitedly as the front door creaked open a second time.
She smiled. “Nah.”
