It was the soft light of dawn that stirred Changbin from sleep. He felt a warm weight on his bicep, his hand aching from the bruises on it. He made sure not to flex it as he turned his head to see the owner of that warm weight. He smiled to himself, looking at you, your body angled towards him, your angel plush koala’ed with your head on his bicep.
He fought the yawn trying to escape him as he looked at you. You always rested so beautifully. He could watch you for hours, if he was any good at art he would have a studio full of different mediums of the same subject, you. The walls would be covered with photos, paintings, and drawings of when you’re resting, awake, laughing… That was his favorite, it would look like someone turned on a light in a dark room. You always looked like that, too.
He almost giggled to himself when he thought about how much of an opposite to you he was. He never slept gracefully. Mostly landing on the opposite side of the bed where he started from and limbs either starfished or belly down smothering himself in the pillow. He was wondering if there was anyone else that he knows that looks as pretty as you do sleeping. Jisung looks cute but not pretty. Hyunjin looks almost angry as he sleeps, Minho can sleep with his eyes open which is just unsettling at times, I.N. sleeps in a ball (fox fits him perfectly), Chan looks catatonic, Minnie looks peaceful, but also slightly angry, Lixie however. He slept pretty. Sometimes Bin would love it when Lix would choose him as a pillow, especially during touring. Lix was always so nervous, so much so that sometimes Bin would get a call from his sunshine twin for help. Felix couldn’t sleep without cuddling him. So most days Bin would Tell I.N. goodnight after a shower and head to Lix’s room. He remembered just after day 2 of a Los Angeles show Felix showed up to his room. One minute they were talking, the next Bin woke up to Lix flattened like a pancake between the wall and himself. He remembers trying to move away from Lix’ and hearing Felix groaning and saying, “Hyung… no come back,” with grabby hands. He remembered looking down at him and saying, “You need to breathe Yongbok-ah” as he chuckled. Felix looked up and smirked as he said, “I’m breathing, now come back…” as Felix locked onto him. There Changbin was stuck for the better half of an hour as Felix went back to sleep.
Also like Felix, you would sleep like a rock next to Changbin, but when Changbin would wake up or even shift, your eyes would open, making sure he wasn’t leaving. If he was, he would need to either bargain or say where he was going. Changbin, now that he thinks about it, recognizes that you and Felix have a very unique relationship. It’s not just because you have a unique relationship with each one of the members either. You and Felix have been through a lot, him being the first you called a friend. There was a lot of culture shock when you moved from New York to Seoul. Felix stood up with you through all of the jetlag and, although you could speak Korean in a limited capacity before you moved, it was nowhere near what you needed to speak to survive.
Felix rented an apartment with you until you could get on your feet, so you didn’t feel so alone in a foreign country. He also did exercises with you in Korean, so you could learn the language better. He helped you form shortcuts for memorizing the Hangul and even helped you with the more advanced speaking by watching K-dramas with you. He’d pause it every few seconds to teach you about what you just heard. It’s because of Felix that you speak fluently after five years. Bin remembered those moments, coming over the apartment to help teach you. He knew there was nothing else expected behind Felix’s kindness aside from, “I understand that it’s hard, let me take some pressure off, yeah?” He could practically hear the thick Aussie accent as he reminisced.
Changbin looked at your hands, he could see the signs of anxiety healing on them. He knew all too well how your anxiety slams into you. You pick at your nails at times and your nails are short because of it, it’s something you’ve been trying to work on since you had teeth. However, now they seem to be healing. That made him feel good. They were a representation of your mood, your healing process. It was not often that he looked at you without a pang of guilt, however. Lately, it’s still touch and go. He always felt a slight worry at the fact that you were married to Chris and not himself, now it’s full blown panic, rightfully so. If he was married to you he would be able to be closer to you, make sure you’re happy; now that line was blocking him. He knew the line was there, he felt it in the earth between the both of you. That line that used to be so defined, now blurring. That guilt shifting focus, instead of guilt for looking at you fondly, now morphing into guilt about this entire situation. If he would’ve spoken up, you wouldn’t be like this. If he would’ve said what Minho, Felix, Han, and himself were thinking; you wouldn’t be here.
There were so many times that he’s found you in the midst of a panic attack, on edge thinking Chris would come home, just to have the rug snatched from under you. Sometimes he’d see you choking back tears as you are doing dishes, seeing no sign of Chan’s favorite mug, meaning he never came home. Smelling his cologne in the morning was the worst. Bin would find you curled on Chan’s side of the bed, asking why he left without saying anything. Questioning your worth. There was no stability for you, no peace. He wanted to tell you to get a divorce so many times. It was something that everyone who spent time with you wanted to scream. Seeing you suffer was and still is torture. Bin never knew how to bring it up though. He knows that you said that you’d leave Chan… But would you?
The press, the company, the fans, all of them would tear you apart. It’d be a massacre, if anything. The company made a show of it. The first public K-Pop couple, going public willingly. “The king and queen of K-Pop”, Chan from the Stray Kids falls in love with one of the best photographers in the business… The headlines made Bin choke at first. It shouldn’t have been that title, this situation, that circumstance. Chan’s hand should’ve never been in yours. Chan’s knee should’ve never touched the Earth, his hand should’ve never reached in his pocket to fish out a tiny black box. More than anything, the press should’ve never known anything. The backlash wasn’t terrible, with Chan protecting you for once. But now? That made his heart rate pick up.
He wanted to keep you here. Safe and content, sleeping on his arm in the dawn of the morning in the middle of a living room floor. Hair tousled, surrounded by plushies, cradling you as you rest. No, not here, he refused to think about it. He refused to believe that anything bad would happen to you, not in his arms, in the safe space he made for you the same moment he met you. The past three days have been from Hell, yet you and him found strength in each other. He goes back to the second episode, the way you clung onto him, your hand barely able to fit half of his forearm. You stood here for him. You breathed for him. All because he asked you to. You fell fully expecting no one to catch you, since Chan never did. Instead, just like the plushies, his boys, your boys, caught you. Bin lunged for you, grabbed your hand and didn’t let go. He refused to, not after what he saw. What you went through. Not with how much he loves you.
Love is a strong word, now that Bin thinks about it. It’s unconditional. When you truly love someone, you don’t care about the ‘what’s’in life. What if someone found out, what if something happens, what are the risks? None of them matter. What matters is that person. He can’t remember a day after he met you where his needs ever superseded your own. It was natural to him. Do you need help carrying something? He’ll carry it all! Do you need an opinion on this photo? He drops all of his responsibilities for you. Chan never loved you. That pang in Bin’s chest came back. He had to face it. Yes, Chan never loved you. Yes, Chan used you as a tool, a tactic. Yes, he broke you. If anything, Chan was shitty at acting like he cared, but everyone didn’t want to see it, yourself included. Not anymore.
You have gone through too much to be treated like an afterthought. Bin will chase any monster away, he’ll fight anyone who tries to come near you with any other motive other than to help you. You shifted a little in your sleep and your hair fell from your now messy bun. He smiled seeing the scrunch of your nose as a strand of hair tickled you. He laid on his side to completely face you. He gently moved the offending strand out of the way, drinking in your presence. You sighed happily and your nostrils flared, chasing Bin’s hand slightly. Bin knew what you wanted, he cupped your face gently as you smirked, still in sleep. It’s these little things that melt Changbin. The fact that even when sleeping you miss the people you love, even if they’re right next to you. You do the same thing to Hannie and Lixie as well. Mere seconds later you shivered. You blindly turned around, angel in hand and got closer to Changbin, making yourself the little spoon. Changbin used two plushies as stacked pillows so he could rest his head as he cuddled you.
“Warmer?” Bin asked as he looped his hand over your body and the angel, his arm resting in the dip of your waist. He had a smile creeping on his face, he was like Chan in the right circumstances, a literal furnace. So resting with him was the best. Like a heated pillow and blanket draped over you. He knew that when you’re cold you seek warmth, especially when drowsy so he was waiting for you to start to migrate closer to him.
Soon your shivers stopped as you said, “mhm thanks Binnie” and you kissed his bicep, your version of a “thank you” as you melted into Bin’s chest. That interaction, once again, isn’t new. You kiss everyone, in appropriate places of course. It’s just how you are. If you’re cuddling with Hannie you peck him on the palm of his hands, if it’s Lixie or Minho, it's the cheeks all day every day. For Bin you peck his chest and arms. Bin as well as the others communicate the same way with you, Bin’s favorite places are the crown of your head and your forehead. Most of the boys follow suit with that tight parameter, except for Innah who will peck your hands, your fingers, whatever is accessible, even on the shoulder if you are cooking or something.
Bin caught him pecking your shoulder once as a thanks and he yelled, “Yah! What makes you so special??”, just to hear you say, “Aye! Don’t yell at my baby! Lookathim, he’s just a baby,” you cooed as you squished his cheeks and scratched his scalp. I.N. just had a shit eating grin as he said, “Hyung, why are you mad at me? I’m just a baby…” Bin just said, “yeah tell that to your browser history.” You immediately went into a fit of laughter as Innah said, “How do you know about that??” Bin just looked at him and yelled, “get off the group email, you degenerate!” Bin, when he couldn’t get to your head, like that night, he’ll kiss your hands as he holds them. He remembered and held onto the memories between you and the boys, smiling as he watched you in your sleep.
Eventually Minho got up and took a picture of course, Bin didn’t care though, as long as you weren’t disturbed. A little after Minho came and went, Hannie popped out of Lix’s room, he had an intent to his movements.
See, there is this thing Hannie does. As soon as he gets up he is very cuddly, not to anyone else except you. He always saw you as his sister, the one he never had. It’s because of that he has this need to make sure you’re okay and he does that by early morning cuddles. That all started after you asked if you could sleep in one of the boy’s beds at night, missing the feeling of a body next to you. Han noticed that whenever you were either in your bed or Bin’s he would wake up with anxiety, his hands searching for you before his eyes even opened. It only dawned on him recently that for the first two weeks of asking, every night you approached Hannie. When he asked you why you hadn't asked Bin or Jinnie, you had said that you didn’t know how to ask Bin. Eventually, you did get around to asking Bin and he was fine with it. Hannie always knew mornings were the worst for you. He walked in many times, just like Bin did, when you’d be crying on Chan’s pillow. He noticed you didn’t do that when there was a body next to you. It didn’t matter how disheveled either of them looked, you would cuddle up and fall right back to sleep peacefully.
The first time Han did this, he found you in your morning ritual of crying, then you felt the bed behind you dip, knowing it wasn’t Chris but one of the boys. You could even tell which one, it was Han. He always stepped lighter around you, especially when you were crying or sad. He knew that you would get startled otherwise. His heart only cracked further when you didn’t flinch or question who it was. Han didn’t say anything, he just delicately dug his hands into the ball you made of your body and he dragged you to himself.  He covered the both of you with the blankets and he whispered, “You don’t need that Anya, let that go for me. Come here, hold on to me… there you go... Good job Anya”. You let go of your husband’s pillow and grabbed on to Hannie, digging into his chest as you cried. His deep rumble soothing you as he said, “I’m so sorry, my heart breaks Anya. You don’t deserve this. Worth so much more. I got you, breathe.” Ever since then, Han always searched you out in the mornings.
Hannie looked at Bin and yourself and laid down on the makeshift bed as he made himself known. At this point it’s so routine that you don’t even get startled. Hannie just turned you so you were now facing Bin, and Hannie dragged you to himself, gently of course.
“Hannie?” You groaned. You were so warm and all you could register was the feeling of being moved. You knew it was Hannie, you smirked to yourself as you waited for him to announce himself. Bin looked at the pair of you and couldn’t help but smile. This ritual that you and Hannie had was probably the cutest thing he has seen. The fact that it’s now routine is something that makes him so happy. The fact that all of the boys love you so much, it makes him not only proud of the boys, but it makes him happy to know that you will always have someone in your corner.
Han just whispers, “Mhm it’s me Anya, get some sleep, just holding you, that okay?” Forever the gentleman asking permission. You nodded and he pulled you in, the last thing you remembered was the momentary cold of the comforter as you were being pulled.  All that you registered after that was the rumble of the warm chest behind you as he spoke softly to Bin. After that you passed back out instantaneously.
“How did she sleep?” Han asked. He was worried about how the first night went. He didn’t want you to feel crowded, which is why he slept on Lix’s floor, no comforter but he packed his sleeping bag in his overnight bag so he had no problem sleeping there.
“Good, I think.” Bin responded. Luckily Bin slept a little better, but he wouldn’t tell anyone about the sudden episodes, waking with a need to feel you close to him. The last thing he remembers of the nightmares being images of Chris trying to get to you. Some being of you unmoving, or of you willingly letting go of him. Those times he was so grateful that you wanted him to be in the bed with you. He’d immediately feel you close and he'd pass back out, not needing to open his eyes.
“That’s good.” Han said. He could see it in Bin’s eyes. He’s been friends with him for almost a decade, in a lot of ways they grew up together, Bin may be good at hiding, but not good enough to hide from Han. “So are you going to tell me what is going on in your head now, hyung?” Han looked down, petting your hair back as he waited for the answer.
“Just trust me when I say you don’t want any of the ideas implanted in your head, Han. I know I am not okay right now. As soon as she starts therapy, I’m going right after her,” Bin’s face was hard as he looked at Han, if he didn’t have that scowl on his face, he knew he’d collapse. “I’m sorry I scared you earlier… I should have more composure than I did.” Han knew exactly what he was talking about. Han was terrified in that waiting room, seeing Bin’s entire demeanor shift. His happy, funny, go lucky brother… just gone, replaced with anger, pain, suffering incarnate.
Han looked at him, “I’m not going to lie, it did terrify me, you meant every word of what you said.” He saw Bin’s eyebrows drop, his lips went from tight to relaxed, almost downturned as his jaw clenched momentarily, his mouth opened in a tiny breath. Han continued, “But you also need to know that your reaction is justified. You had and still have every right to be enraged. It’s not your fault that all of this happened. Chris is a manipulator, he had this show well rehearsed. We didn’t see it. We all didn’t see it Bin. So please don’t blame yourself, because it’s just like what Y/N told Minho, we aren’t responsible for another man’s actions.”
“I don’t know why he did it. I keep on racking my brain. She did everything possible to make him happy. She tore herself apart for him.” Changbin always had that in the back of his head whenever he had time to himself. Even if he was just using the restroom, he couldn’t fathom why. That was when Changbin realized, anything you did, wasn't going to be enough. You already gave him so much yet he just didn't care. He wanted more, like a black hole in your life. You can never fill a glass with a hole in the bottom.
Han said, “The why doesn’t matter. What matters is her.” He tilted his head to you, “I got a call from management, they’re giving us two months off. Apparently Chris let them know what happened.” Bin’s jaw opened and Han cut him off before a syllable could be uttered, “I asked them specifically what he said, they told me. The story he gave checked out. He told them the truth. Which honestly scares me more, Bin.” Changbin’s heart dropped once he heard that. “Oh God. Okay. I’ll talk to PR and see what the plan is.” He responded. “I’ll do it later though. I… we just need peace right now. I need to go out. Get her some sanitary items and I’m going to grab more medicine, a heating pad, all of that.” This isn’t Bin’s first rodeo, he has an older sister who basically taught him everything about the reproductive system. Bin has also shared a bathroom with you for years so he already knows your size, your flow throughout it, all of it.
Since you were now cuddling Han, Changbin is now free. Knowing he had a few things to do he grabbed his overnight bag and opened it. Grabbing his shower gel, toothbrush, change of clothes and his razor. Bin hasn’t ever been more excited to shower and shave. He hasn’t done things like that since the morning of when it happened.
He headed to the shower and set up. As he undressed his mind was blank. He was focused on getting you what you need and coming back as quickly as possible. Bin was in the shower for a while, letting it seep into his bones. He could feel the sensation start in his throat. The recognizable tightness in his throat, his heart heavier than the previous time he had this urge. His breathing ragged, he wondered what he could’ve done differently, he didn’t want to lose you. Logically, he knew he wouldn't. But would you hold it against him for not saying anything about what he was feeling about the marriage? Would you hate him? He could hear you laugh and see your smile as his chest tightened. He saw all of the looks on your face that night and the pain that he tried to quell. He tried to remind himself that this isn’t his fault. He couldn’t hold it in anymore as he let the sobs rack his body silently. He focused on the sound of the water hitting all around him in the shower.
After letting some of it out. He looked up, letting the water rain down on him. It allowed him to breathe. He felt better after he finished his shower. As soon as he looked in the mirror on the wall just above the sink he realized something. Changbin hasn’t looked in a mirror in days. His eyes always focused on you. He wiped the steam away as he saw himself. His face dusted with the beginnings of a 5 o’clock shadow, his hair wet and already looking a little curly. He also noticed the slightest bags under his eyes, which didn’t surprise him. He reminisced at how obsessed you were over his curls.
You yourself helped him with his hair routine when you noticed how crunchy the curls were. You ran to the store to get all the necessary hair products and you taught him how to relax the curls and not fight them. He looked at the products laid out in front of him smiling. After he styled his hair he headed out.
It was maybe an hour later that the house came back to life, well relatively. Han wanted you to sleep as much as possible so he scolded whoever came in and made too much noise. It was only so long Minho could hold out though, so he decided to make Hotteok, a close to American pancake filled with sugar, walnuts, and cinnamon. For yours he put in extra things like dark chocolate, berries, and mango, for your iron count. Everyone else got the basic version. Which Han grumbled about but Minho just ignored him. As Han went to the restroom you stirred at the sounds and smells in the kitchen. You felt behind you for Han and you didn’t find him, so you reached in front of you, knowing Binnie was there, but he wasn’t.
You opened your eyes reluctantly as you got your bearings. You couldn’t really grasp that Bin could possibly be out but all you know is that your nose is still a little sensitive. For some reason you are craving Changbin’s scent. It happened a few times when you were carrying, but the urge was never this bad. You needed to smell his fresh scented cologne and the slight hint of him, the perfect combo you’d always get when you’d nestle into his neck.
You tried smelling his pillow, the scent too faint to quench your craving. You smelled the comforter and it wasn’t near enough for you. Then you saw him. You grabbed the plush and buried your face in it. It was exactly what you needed, taking a deep breath in and relaxing. You got up slowly, your body still sore. You grunted as you finally made it to your feet. You heard Minho humming in the kitchen and decided on going there.
Minho could hear the pattering of bare feet behind him. Then your sleepy voice spoke out, “MinMin?” Minho turned around and smiled softly at you, then he noticed what was in your hands.
“Beautiful? Why are you holding Gyu?” he asked as he worked on filling the pancakes.
You replied in the smallest voice, “Smells like him. Where’s Binnie?” Minho’s face softened hearing you say that. All of the boys knew that your cravings were still ongoing but it was something new that you craved smells too, well, to Minho at least. You had this problem even when you were still carrying, you would enlist Seungmin’s help. Seungmin’s scent was something you were obsessed with in the first month. Seungmin, of course being the friend he is, researched why you needed to smell him, finding that yes scents are a part of pregnancy cravings. Some days you would just ask to smell him and he had no problem coming over just for you to cuddle up to him on the couch for a few hours, unintentionally rolling around in his grip like a cat rolls in catnip.  Whenever Seungmin caught you doing that he would poke fun at you, but in all honesty it was the cutest thing he’s seen.
“Changbin went out to get you some things. He should be back soon.”
“Ok… what are you making?” You asked as you tried to see what he was up to.
“Breakfast, I’m making yours with mango, berries, and dark chocolate.” He said as you smiled excitedly. You heard Han’s voice behind you, “I told you not to wake her, hyung.”
As soon as you turned around Han’s heart melted as he said, “Wh-What are you doing with Gyu, Anya??” You could tell Han was three seconds away from squealing and waking up the house officially.
You answered in a tiny voice, realizing that you probably look very cute, hugging Gyu to your chest and still in pajamas. “Gyu smells like him… Waiting for my Binnie to come home.” You buried your face into Gyu as you looked up at Hannie.
“How are you this CUTE?!” Han squealed.
Minho immediately said, “YAH keep it DOWN!”
That made you giggle uncontrollably as you sniffed Gyu. Han ran out of the kitchen and came back with his phone, “Can I take a picture? You are too cute right now.”
You nodded, and just like that the picture was taken as you rubbed your eyes with one hand, making Hannie coo at the picture. He went into the group chat (Obviously without Chris in it.)

The Mystery of the Lynx - The Hunt
Semi Hero - Recently Joins the Heroes As Monarch gains strength, he can now akumatize two people separately, specifically Lila and Felix. They transform into opposites of Ladybug and Cat Noir, taking the roles of an anti-fox and anti-dog. While they don't possess the true powers of a miraculous, their akumas grant them enough strength to counter the real heroes.

Find the words 📝✨
An ask game proposed by @bittersweetresilience! The goal is to find specific words in our fics or WIPs, and share the corresponding snippets.
Without further ado, I give you my time machine the result of years of blorbo rotation:
1. Water
The water is warm against her skin — the polar opposite of the Tailtean rain, which stabbed through her cape and all the way to her bones.
“It was my responsibility.” Edelgard reaches for the pilled cloth, before Byleth gets a chance to do so. “When I started this war, I knew very well that it would end up with one of us killing the other.”
The truth is that she would do it again, over and over, as many times as required. Ever since the Holy Tomb, she has not regretted a single decision.
Enemy (FE3H)
A rare heavy angst piece from me but it’s OK, because I’m not particularly attached to Dimitri.
2. Shadow
“We don't have much time.”
Silver scratched Felix’s skin: cold, polished, foreign.
He knew better than to take the risk; knew, beyond the shadow of a doubt, what fate awaited on the other end of his trickery. But the fake ring was well-crafted, and Uncle was stupid, and he felt his amok’s absence like a phantom pain — burning its way up his arm, nestling into his chest.
“This again?” Trixx’s pout was expected; it did not make it any kinder. “Come on, Félix, we’ve combed through the entire mention. There’s no point.”
“Yes, there is.” Logging into the tablet was child’s play, a well-oiled routine. “I’ve come too far to give up now.”
The roof of his mouth had been left bitter from too many orders: some forced down his throat, some swallowed with a smile. He needed to wash away the aftertaste, to know this had not all been in vain.
The blueprints were silent as always, but he would make them talk.
Kill the Lights (Dog and Fox Senticousins WIP)
3. Yesterday
“So are we going in or what?”
Emmy walked up the door with tense shoulders and fiery eyes — as if she was trying to intimidate the handle.
It did not move an inch.
“There’s a puzzle on the lock,” she growled. “Something about a watch that’s lost its markings.”
“That’s… peculiar.”
“In the world we live in?” Flora chimed in, very rightly so. “I’d be more surprised if there wasn’t some kind of riddle for us to solve!”
“Not that.” Clive rested his chin in his palm, scanning his surroundings with journalistic precision. “Why would the owners close down in the middle of the afternoon, on a week day? I don’t even see a sign.”
“It’s an antique clockshop in a deserted part of town,” Emmy groaned, squinting at the instructions with resigned diligence. “It’s probably abandoned.”
“No chance. The paint is pristine — I could almost believe it opened yesterday.”
Flora scratched her head, rebellious strands escaping from her carefully tied ribbon.
“Maybe they just really like puzzles.”
The Lucky Ones (Professor Layton role reversal WIP)
Thank you for the tag, Sunny! ☀️
@dragongutsixofficial, @paracosmicat and anyone who might be tempted: your words are time, embrace and sibling. If you can’t find these, how about ocean, sun and myth?

The wind hit Allegra in full force as she pushed open the heavy doors out to the Transfiguration Courtyard. Normally filled with students during the warmer months, the courtyard was bereft as the wind whistled sharply between the cliffs by the Lake — the archways where the heartbroken statue lay in pieces (again) only served as funnels for its howls.
Tugging on her scarf, she started to stride briskly across the cobbled path to the opposite side when movement caught her eye. She inhaled sharply. Elland. He looked worse for wear where he sat alone, his shoulders hunched. Without knowing why (though she convinced herself afterwards that it was out of common solidarity), she found herself unravelling her scarf before him.
“It won’t do for you to catch a cold. Who else could I rely on to handle our little fox?” She teased, her words at odds with her soft tone as she looped her scarf around his shoulders. Her hands lingered for a heartbeat longer than necessary as she silently mused how much green and silver suited him.
He has been deep in thought, confused and unsure about how he feels, so many things happening at once. First, it was losing his Crossed Wands partner and friend. Then — being disoriented by Will's behaviour in the Great Hall with Felix. And now — a bit hurt by the Slytherin spending so much time with Montrose after giving all those mixed signals when they danced at the Halloween Ball.
Changes can be good and changes can be bad. But what to do with changes somewhere in the middle that you don't know how to go on about? If only—
"—handle our little fox?" he hears a familiar voice. Oh, he wandered outside on his way to a class and got distracted by his thoughts, didn't he? The familiar person comes into focus in front of him and whatever Elland wanted to say after registering what was said before got frozen just like the water in the fountain beside him.
There was something about Allegra's voice that sounded different. Soft and caring, such a harsh contrast to the cold outside and the ever-present guarded mask on the Slytherin's face.
Elland lifts his hands slightly to touch the soft fabric of her scarf and accidentally brushes Allegra's hand just as the girl begins to pull away. Elland has half a mind to catch it but he has no reason for it so he focuses on the scarf. It smells faintly of pines and the same crispy early winter air that is all around them, and yet it distinctly makes him think of her.
"I— Thank you, Allegra. It's alright, we are heading to Charms anyway, I wouldn't want you to catch a cold either."
He is more than touched. He knows he looks tired and distracted but it is not like there are any solutions to his distressed mind. But if Allegra of all people is trying to look after him? He must be a mess. And Elland de Strontium doesn't like looking like a mess.
The Hufflepuff smiles at his friend gently, weighing his main rhyme options.
You ground me like no other: Be it my brother or my mother. You are logic to my mind: Without you I would go blind.
Do not worry, I will manage, You dismiss my disadvantage. Shall we go? It's getting cold. It's your hand I'd like to hold.
Elland says it and stretches his hand out. And then visibly gets a little self-conscious.
"I don't mean you have to take my hand. That just rhymed really nice, a slip of the tongue. But at least it'll be warmer while we walk?
[Allegra does not take Elland's hand, of course, but Elland was prepared for that.]

Fox Paw Faux Pas
TIMING: Before We Begin Again LOCATION: The woods PARTIES: @thunderstroked and @chasseurdeloup SUMMARY: Kaden finds a certain kitsune stuck in a trap. Mona does her best to communicate with him as they try to help her find her way home CONTENT WARNINGS: head trauma tw (very end/last reply)
The fox clawed at the cage she’d gotten stuck inside. Heart beating fast, she repelled from the edges, as if the metal that touched her skin might somehow singe her fear. A low whine left her as she arched her back against the metal, claws piercing through the small holes of the man-made crate. It was on the smaller side, meant for something the size of a raccoon, maybe. She was going to die here, and it was that spellcaster in the wood’s fault. She’d never see Felix or Inge again, she’d never have her favorite wine– she’d never return the photography studio to Esther. She was done for.
In her panic, she missed the exchange of words– the padding of footsteps. She was shaking violently within the small cage, doing her best to try and claw her way out. Another high pitched whine left her, this time reminiscent of a small child’s scream. Agony washed over her, and panic ensued. Her heart rate picked up and she shoved her shoulder into the opposite side of the cage, gaze leveling with that of a man after a few moments where she lowered herself to the ground, panting heavily. Was he here to kill her? She would burn him, if so. He would release her, and she would burn him, and she would run. She had to. She couldn’t die here. She refused to die here.
Weird fox in one of the traps. That was the call Kaden got to animal control. He could only speculate what the fuck that meant in Wicked’s Rest. His questions were met with no real answers like information had been passed third hand to the hunter. Time to prepare for the worst and hope for the best. For all he knew, the fox was just a normal damn fox but was gray or maybe had mange. Hell, it could be a raccoon. Wouldn't surprise him if that was the case. Maybe it was even that fucker that had tormented and evaded him and Cortez a while back. Yeah, no way he’d get that lucky. Time to plan for a raiju. Kaden grabbed his rubber gloves along with the crate and snare from the back of the truck before trekking out into the woods to see what he would find.
The closer he got to the spot in question, the more chills ran down his spine. Kaden furrowed his brows, checking that he was headed in the right direction. Sure was. Great. So he was walking directly towards a monster. Hopefully it was still in that cage.
He spotted the glint of metal before he could see what was waiting for him across the way. Goosebumps covered his arms as he walked closer. Definitely something supernatural. Beast or shifter, surely. Whichever it was, it was panicked and whining. The sound pierced his ears and it was all he could do not to wince. Deep breath. Kaden crouched down to get a better look at the little fox. The little orange fox with a splash of blue fur and two tails.
Yeah, not a fox, then. A kitsune. Kaden sighed, not sure if it was relief or something else that he was releasing. “Hey, hey, calm down,” he said, holding his hands up in surrender as he dropped down to one knee to try and meet the shifter eye to eye. “I know what you are, okay. You’re safe. I promise.” Slowly, he reached his hand out to the cage door, ready to open it. His fingers hesitated to grasp the handle while the kitsune was still so frightened. He knew that he wasn’t dealing with a wild animal, sure, but the same rules still applied. Frightened animals were dangerous to deal with. “You’re going to have to calm down, alright? I don’t want to deal with that fox fire shit today, got it?”
I know what you are.
The fox thought briefly to the moment she’d watched Twilight with Inge and the two of them had cackled at the scene splitting between Bella and Edmund– no, Edward. She pressed herself against the metal, ears pinned back as she glowered at the man who appeared. If he knew what she was, either it was by sight or by something else.
His fingers hung around the lock of the cage and the fox watched intently, fur sticking through the holes in the cage as she backed up further. He was speaking to her, acknowledging that he knew what she could do to him– how did he know? Most would see two tails and equate it to something out of mythology, but this person knew past that.
In response to his request, the fox let out another high pitched whine before relaxing slightly. If he tried anything, she would light him up and have no issue doing so– she was not a fighter in the slightest, but there were exceptions to that rule. The fox waited patiently for the door to drop open, and once it did, she rushed out, half-tempted to escape the man, but she turned at the last moment, studying his features. Could he help her if he knew what she was?
The fox calmed down just enough that he risked opening the cage door. Kaden expected them to transform back right then and there. He waited and gave the fox a look. “Go on.You don’t have to hide it here. No one around, no cameras. You’re safe.” The kitsune just looked up at him with a blank stare and for a second, he questioned if he was wrong. No, those were two distinct tails. There was no way this was a normal fox. They were a kitsune.
So why weren’t they turning back into a human form? Kaden furrowed his brows and double checked that they were alone. Yeah, very alone, no one else there. Were they shy? Could they not shift while someone was looking at them? Embarrassed? Maybe afraid to reveal their identity.
“I mean it. You can shift back now. I promise, I’m not going to tell anyone or hurt you or anything. And it’s going to be easier to speak to each other, as cute as the fox form is.”
Still, nothing. Was there something he was missing?
Wait, did kitsune keep their clothes when shifting? Werewolves didn’t. Maybe they were worried about being naked in front of a stranger. Kaden shrugged off his jacket and placed it on the ground in front of the kitsune. “Here. I don’t know how much it’ll cover you up but it might help. If that’s the issue.” And if that wasn’t the issue, the ranger was officially at a loss.
As much as the fox wanted to shift back and give her thanks and then be on her way, that wasn’t possible. Then again, that might have been stupid of her. What if this person was waiting for her to reveal what she truly looked like, and in turn use that against her? She wouldn’t have risked it, even if she were capable of returning to her human form.
The fox huffed in response to the way he urged her to shift back. She attempted, but there was no puff of smoke, no reveal of who she was beneath the blue and orange fur. The scar that replicated itself in the patterns across her fur burned with frustration– something that typically happened when under duress.
At his insinuation that she might be embarrassed due to the act of being naked, the fox cackled– or, rather, chirped. The idea that she would be embarrassed over her body was laughable, even in her current state. Had he only read about her kind in books? Did he have no idea that she’d keep her clothes? That her shifts weren’t as animalistic as others?
The jacket was now on the ground, though, and the fox committed the scent to memory. She’d follow it after this was said and done and show her appreciation so that she wouldn’t have the guilt looming over her in the form of his help. Though, the only help he’d given her was getting her out of the cage. That was good enough, she decided. The fox watched the man intently before stepping atop his jacket, tails flicking in response to his words. She pawed at the jacket pocket where she felt the weight of a cell phone. Maybe she could use her nose to type something out? Sticks and scrawling words into the dirt hadn’t really helped her case before, but maybe this would work.
Did the kitsune just laugh at him? Kaden’s mouth pulled into a thin line and crossed his arms in front of his chest. Couldn’t believe he just got laughed at by a fox. Sure, alright, they were a shifter but all the same. His brow raised as he watched them approach his jacket and… stand on top of it? That wasn’t going to help. What the hell were they doing? “Hey, careful,” he said as soon as she started pawing at it. “Don’t scratch the leather, alright?” As if the jacket wasn’t already well worn and scuffed and scratched in various places. It was the principle of the thing, though.
When he looked down, he saw that the kitsune had wedged his phone out of the pocket. Right. Might have been a smart idea to take that out before handing it to them. Kaden reached down to grab it and looked at the device, unsure of the best way to go about this. It’s not like there was a fox to English translation app he could use. Even if there was, he was pretty sure he wouldn’t be able to figure out how to get it without help from Alex or Mack or even Andy.
It was clear from all the huffing and visible frustration from before that the kitsune wasn’t shifting there and then for whatever reason. But they hadn’t run away. Kaden eyed his phone again. Did they want to communicate? Well, probably, since their current back and forth left a lot to be desired. How were they going to do that with a phone? They still couldn’t talk. Maybe they wanted to call someone? And say what, exactly? He tried to wrap his head around it and remembered that incident at Masque of the Red Death when he was monochromatic and silent. What was her name, the mare, Inge? She’d mentioned using a phone to communicate when silent instead of the whiteboard. Honestly, shame he didn’t have that with him now, it would have helped. Still, maybe she was onto something.
Kaden tapped through the lock screen and found an app that looked like it took notes or something. Either way, seemed like you could type on it. Though he wasn’t sure if the kitsune would have the dexterity with their paws or nose or hell, maybe their tails, to navigate it. He went to set it down but hesitated. He knew there was a way to make things bigger and the buttons larger, mostly because of the number of times he did it by accident. “One second, let me see if I can make this easier,” he said as he desperately flipped through various settings and options. He did what he could to make the text larger and the buttons bigger and hoped it would be enough before placing the phone back on his jacket facing the fox. “Hope this is what you wanted,” he told them as he waited for them to type away.
The man took the phone away and the fox let out another annoyed huff. Then again, she wouldn’t be able to do much to unlock it. It wasn’t like she could press his thumb into the home button for him. She watched him expectantly as he seemingly threaded her silent request together.
Just as he was about to return the phone to her, he was saying something else and the fox let out a whine, finally moving off of the man’s jacket. The last thing she wanted to do was scratch up the leather, it did smell authentic, and she knew how pricey they could be. She wouldn’t make much of a case for herself if she did tarnish something he clearly cared about. Finally, the phone was back within her reach and the fox was leaning down, amused by the way the buttons took up pretty much half of the screen. It would make things easier though, she had to admit that.
Before moving to tap her nose against the screen, she rubbed it against her side at the risk of not wanting to get any dirt on his phone. She’d been traveling like this for awhile now, there was no telling what state she was actually in. Finally, she dipped down to tap her nose against the words S-T-U-C-K. Instead of spelling it outright, it said S-T-I-UU-C-JJ-K. Though, with the help of context clues, she was hopeful that he’d be able to understand what she was trying to say. She watched him carefully as she nudged the phone with her nose back towards him, a low whine building in her chest.
Kaden had to admit, he was fascinated watching the fox trying to type on a touchscreen. Definitely not anything he would see in any nature documentary, that was for certain. He was glad he made the buttons bigger because even then, it was clear they were struggling to get the right letters. They’d managed to type something, though, which was honestly impressive all on its own.
He leaned down to get a look at the phone and read what they’d written. “Stiuucjjk,” was what was there on the phone screen. The creases in his forehead deepend as he tried to figure out what the hell they were trying to say. “Is this English?” he asked, looking back at them.
Right. A stupid question considering they’d demonstrated understanding of everything else he’d said prior to now. “Sorry, looked like it was Swedish or something.” He rubbed the back of his neck and glanced over the letters one more time. What the hell was it? Sticky? No, that didn’t make sense. Their fur looked clean and so did their paws for the most part. At the very least, they didn’t look like they’d gotten doused in honey or something. Sick? Maybe, but they seemed mostly okay. But he figured it was a good idea to check. “Sick? Are you sick? Is that why you won’t change?” He tilted his head and tried one more time to sus out what the word translated to. He looked at the letters on the keyboard, trying to get an idea of what letters were next to each other, hoping it would clue him in on the mystery word.
“Stick?” he said out loud. Before he could get confirmation or denial, he reached down on the forest floor and grabbed a stick. “Would this help you type? This it?”
The fox let out an annoyed huff as the man asked her if it was English. Couldn’t he read between the lines? She knew that she needed to be patient with him, but it was hard when she was the one stuck like this with no foreseeable way out of it. She was frustrated, to say the least. She hoped that because he seemed to know what she was, he would be able to help– that somewhere in some book there was an explanation of what was happening to her, but then she remembered the stupid spell and how this wasn’t natural to her kind at all. She was fucked.
She watched in disbelief as the man ran through the words, not nearing what she’d actually been trying to say. She sat down, tails flicking in annoyance as he continued on. Sticky, sick, stick. She had half a mind to bite his hand, but he was the one trying to help her, wasn’t he? Or was this some kind of ploy? To keep her distracted for enough time for someone else to swoop in and steal her away? Her ears rotated slightly as she tried to welcome in any sounds around the perimeter, but aside from the sound of birds, they were alone. The fox exhaled, staring at the stick in the man’s hand. She grabbed it from him with her mouth and threw it at his feet before nodding towards the phone again, nose pressed against the deletion key.
She attempted it again, this time carefully prodding her nose against the screen. S-T-Y-U-C-K. That was much better, she decided. She pawed at the side of the phone, urging him to take a look. This had to be easily decipherable– there was no way he wouldn’t understand what she was trying to get across now.
When the fox took the stick from his hand, Kaden felt a small swell of pride for having cracked the code. It faded as soon as the stick hit his shoes. “Aright, fine, not a stick.” He grumbled and put the phone back down for the kitsune to type away again. He waited until she looked back up at him, pawing the phone to let him know the message was ready.
“St-yuck,” he said, pronouncing the word aloud exactly as written. Right, that sounded stupid, especially since he realized what it actually said before the second syllable left his lips. “Stuck. Okay, got it.” Well, at least that was solved. The fox was stuck.
Wait, what did that mean? Kaden’s brows furrowed as looked at the fox, back at the cage he had freed them from, and then over to the fox again. Stuck, how? They weren’t stuck anymore. “But you’re out of the cage, what do you mean stuck?”
He didn’t need to be an expert in animal behavior to sense the frustration coming from the tiny furry creature. Obviously the cage was not what they were talking about. “Right, not the cage. Clearly. Not stuck in the cage anymore but still stuck.” And not in place, either. “Stuck… as a fox?” It was said more like a question than a statement even though, in hindsight, that was clearly what they meant the whole time.
“Okay, stuck as a fox. Can’t shift back, I take it. Right.” Kaden scratched at his beard before rubbing his palm down the rest of his face. “Not sure I know how to fix that.” The ranger searched his mind for anyone else who might be helpful. He knew a lot of undead, he knew werewolves, but that wasn’t going to do a kitsune a whole lot of good. “I can take you home or wherever you want to go and we can find someone who can, I guess.” It was the only solution he had at the moment. “Which, um, not sure how you want to direct me to wherever that is.”
Finally, the fox thought– he got it. She watched his expression carefully, noting the way in which he seemed to work through the text she’d typed on the phone. Would he think it was something else? Look at her paws for a rock, maybe? She might have to bite him then, she thought. She stared at the man, ears drooping slightly as he came to the wrong conclusion. She had to keep in mind that he was doing most of the communicating, and he was only able to take cues away from her if she’d give them to him.
Once he’d gotten it, the fox nodded. She wasn’t sure what he’d be able to do to help her, if anything, but at least somebody had gotten it right. Only, as soon as he’d come to the grand reveal, he was falling back on his heels. The fox let out a huff and laid down, paws outstretched in front of her. Out of everyone she’d run into today, he was the only one to really figure her out for what she was, and what was wrong with her. The idea of possibly directing him to Felix came to mind, but if he recognized her for what she was, who was to say that he wouldn’t recognize Felix? She couldn’t put them in any kind of harm’s way.
Getting to her own home, and then finding Inge or Felix would be her only way, she thought. She looked at the phone in his hands and sighed, knowing that typing out her address would be one hell of a feat. But if that was her only way…
She nodded towards the phone, snout pushing through the air as if to mimic the way she’d pushed her nose against the screen to spell out what was needed.
“You want to try and type again?” Kaden wasn’t sure how well that was going to work out, given how long it took them to spell “stuck.” With typos. “I think it might be easier if you try to direct me once we’re in the car. I’m pretty sure we can find a way.” The ranger was about to turn and indicate for the fox to follow when he realized there was a lot of town out there and a lot of people, too. Wandering blindly with a fox to navigate probably wasn’t the best idea. “On second thought, give me a rough location or someone to head towards. Or a part of town at least. Then you can point the way from there.”
He bent down to place the phone on the ground so they could press their snoot up against the glass to type out each character slowly and carefully. The device brushed the forest floor before Kaden yanked it back up. “Hold on, I have a better idea.” He may not have had those often, but he was pretty sure this was going to be easier than waiting for the fox to type. Not that he had anywhere better to be, sure, but he really didn’t want to get bitten by a frustrated kitsune today if he could avoid it.
Kaden opened up the map app on his phone and zoomed out to an overview map of the town before finally placing it on the ground. This time, however, the ranger stayed crouched next to it. “Okay, I’m going to hover my finger over the map. Yip or howl or whatever it is when I’m over the right place. I’ll zoom in. Same shit.” He went to start and realized he hadn’t figured out how they could tell him he was going the wrong direction. Or anything else but yes, really. “Uh, if I’m wrong, paw me or the phone or something. I guess. And, hmm…” He paused and scratched his beard as he pondered a little more. “Use your head to tell me which direction to go? Or point your paw? Something like that. Make it obvious.” He really hoped this would work. “Alright, ready?”
The fox stared up at him unblinking, waiting for the moment that the phone would hit the ground again. She wasn’t sure how directing him would do any good, mostly considering she had no idea where she was. She looked around them in an attempt to get a better idea of where she might’ve gotten herself trapped, but all she saw was underbrush and trees. She turned her attention back towards him as he went to put down the phone, ears flattening back as he scooped it back up within the time it took him to lean down to set it back down. She looked up at him as he explained, realizing that he’d finally come up with a good idea.
At least this would be easier in the grand scheme of things.
This was a better idea than simply getting into his truck and finding the way back home. She wasn’t even really sure if home was where she needed to go at this point– she needed to find Felix or Inge. Still, she was a little apprehensive about bringing somebody who seemed to know what she was right away to her friends who were… not quite human.
At his instruction, the fox nodded, looking down at the phone. As he tapped around, she barked out the orders, scraping her paw through the dirt to the right– then the left. Finally, she saw the neighborhood that Felix lived in. She could figure it out from there, she thought. She stood up and pawed at the dirt in the direction of his truck, trotting over. Maybe he’d get the memo that’s where she wanted to go.
Or, at least she hoped his braincells hadn’t deteriorated in that time.
Scrolling through the map for the fox seemed to be working. Kaden was shocked he came up with it at all, to be honest. It was easier to understand than their typos, that was for sure. At one point during the whole thing, it hit him how ridiculous this had to look. There he was, kneeling in the dirt, swiping on a phone while a goddamn fox was giving him directions. It sounded like a bad punchline.
But hey, it worked well enough. The area was easy enough to get to and he was pretty damn familiar with getting around the town by this point given his job. He nodded and followed the fox as they trotted to his truck.
“Hop in the front,” he said as he swung the passenger side door open for the fox. Once they were in, door closed, he went round the front of the truck and slid into his own seat. “Okay, uh, let’s see. You can tap your paw on me to turn right, that’s easy enough. Uhhh… yip once to turn left? That work?” Kaden looked over at the kitsune and had to stifle a laugh. The whole thing had to look ridiculous. An animal control officer with a fox in the front seat playing navigator. This was going to be a wild ride, that was for sure.
Kaden was about to head off when he saw someone down the road, arms waving above their head, clearly trying to get his attention. His mouth pulled into a thin line as the woman approached the car. He couldn’t say what it was, but something felt off. “Get down,” he muttered to the fox, his eyes never leaving the woman as he spoke. “Hide yourself best you can.” There was a towel bunched up in between the seats that he grabbed and tossed in the fox’s direction.
By now the woman was close enough that Kaden could see the weapons strapped to her: a crossbow, knives, what looked like a shotgun, among other things. She was well prepared for these woods by the looks of it. That didn’t mean she was a hunter, sure.
But it didn’t mean that she wasn’t one, either.
Kaden pulled up closer to her, car still running. He wasn’t going to risk putting it in park. Even so, he didn’t want his damn tires blown so he rolled the window down and gave her a small wave, half smile on his face. “Hey there. You need something? I’ve got to head out if–”
She didn’t let him finish his sentence. “Hey, sorry I just–” She was still catching her breath as she leaned on the side of the car, practically hanging in the window. Kaden noticed her eyes were darting back and forth, searching the interior of the truck. She was likely trying to be subtle but it didn’t work. “Sorry, I have a trap out here and I heard there was something found in it and–” It was clear she was frantic and having trouble choosing her words. “Well that’s my trap and if you picked anything up, it could be dangerous. Also it’s mine and, and…”
Kaden’s gaze hardened the more she spoke. She was young, couldn’t be more than twenty-something, if that. “Calm down, breathe.” He tried to angle himself to block her view of the interior as he turned to her. “There wasn’t anything in that trap, sorry. Not sure where you heard that but I have to go, there’s an emergency at–”
“Bullshit,” she spat back at him, her friendly demeanor gone. “I know there was a ki– fox in there. I heard the call in to the station.” The confused look on Kaden’s face didn’t phase her. “Look, I tapped into the radio, whatever, sue me, I don’t care but I need to get that fox. Now. It’s dangerous. And sorry bud, but you definitely don’t know how to handle one like this. Just trust me. Please.”
He’d be lying if he said he didn’t sympathize with the kid. He knew that tone, he knew this song and dance well. It was normally him on the other side. Or it had been, when he thought the same as she did. Putain de merde. He didn’t have time for lessons in ethical beast hunting right now. Especially since he was pretty damn sure she wasn’t going to just listen to him. “Thanks for looking out for me but I promise you, I have it handled. I know a kitsune when I see one.” He didn’t wait for the shock to leave her face before he continued. “This was just a normal fox. Nothing more. And even if it wasn’t, I have it handled. Ranger.”
His heart was pounding in his chest as he waited for whatever came next. Kaden didn’t have a clue how this ranger would react or, worse, how the kitsune in the passenger seat would react. He hadn’t exactly told them he was a ranger. All he could do now was hope that they trusted him enough by now to know he wasn’t out to hurt them.
For one second, it looked like the kid was going to back away and Kaden was ready to take off, foot slowly lifting from the break.
Not his luck, apparently. “Show me,” the ranger said, determination burning in her irises. One of her hands had slipped down out of sight and that could only mean one goddamn thing with a hunter. She had a weapon in hand. And he had a truck, sure, but he didn’t doubt that she knew damn well how to make sure the truck didn’t go too far if she wanted. “Show me the fox. And I’ll go.”
Putain de merde. Kaden’s eyes hovered towards the passenger seat for just a second, even though he didn’t mean to look their way even a little. He didn’t want to reveal them. He wasn’t going to give them up. But right now, they really needed a way out of this.
The fox considered turning her back on him in that moment, but he was the only way she’d get to either her apartment, or to Felix or somewhere in between, so that she wasn’t dragging somebody else into harm’s way. She looked at the door for a moment longer before finally deciding to oblige, hopping onto the front seat of the pick up.
The sound of a second set of footsteps set her on edge. Ears rotating slightly, she looked towards the open window, eyes narrowing. The man at her side seemed to be on edge, and the words spoken sent her hackles upwards. The fox followed the orders given to her, slipping below the passenger seat, trying to ignore the way it felt like it was closing in on her. The woman could sense her, and the man could… tell?
Ranger.
The fox’s ears burned with the word. She’d anticipated this moment; realizing that the man who she’d hoped would help her had been on the wrong side. But he hadn’t tried to hurt her. She knew deep down that she couldn’t trust him, and her father’s words came to mind as she blinked up at the dashboard of the truck, head pulled back just enough so that the woman wouldn’t be able to see her if she peered in through the window.
There was desperation in her voice, and it didn’t seem like the man she was with was willing to give her up that easily. She had two choices; believe in the one who had helped her to this moment, or allow her fight for survival to win.
The former eclipsed, and the fox darted from beneath the seat, scrambling out of the passenger side window. In an attempt to trip up the woman before she could be followed in the direction she thought she was headed in, the fox slipped beneath the vehicle, teeth sinking into her ankle. It tasted bad; like dirt and bug spray. Then again, she never found human fun to bite, anyway. It felt primitive, in a way.
The woman shouted, swatting down at her, and the fox sent a orb of fox fire towards the opposite ankle, hopeful it’d deter her from being followed.
She didn’t spare a glance backwards as she dashed back into the brush, avoiding the traps that had been clearly set for those like her.
Kaden was just about to slam the gas pedal and get them the fuck out of there when he saw a flash of fur fling itself from the window. “Putain!” he shouted as he scrambled, trying to figure out what to do. Park. Put truck in park. That was step one. He threw the gear and tried to throw himself out of the car just as fast but he wasn’t quick enough. He heard the scream of pain from the ranger and turned just in time to see the fox dart into the distance.
Fuck. Fuck. They were going to get themselves killed. He’d tried so damn hard to help and he couldn’t even–
His thoughts were cut short when he noticed the other hunter limping away, ready to take off after the fox. “Oh no you don’t,” he mumbled to himself. Kaden charged towards her and slammed his body into hers, pinning her to the ground.
“What the hell?!” she shouted back at him, clearly confused as to why another ranger was going after her and not the shifter sprinting into the forest. She fought back, of course she did, but even with her own hunter strength, she couldn’t break free. She was no Keira, that was for sure. His sister would have managed to flip him over and knock the wind out of him with a kick to the gut for good measure by now.
Right. Focus. He wouldn’t be able to keep her there forever and she would go after the kitsune. He had to give them a fighting chance – it was the least he could do. The ranger was young, eager, upholding what she believed to be her sworn duty. It was hard to hate her or even fault her. But he couldn’t just stand up and let her go, not at this point. “Sorry about this,” he said before he swung a fist at the side of her head. Her body went limp as her consciousness drifted away. Her heartbeat was still loud and clear, though.
Kaden shoved down the guilt creeping up his throat as he dragged her body off to the side of the path. He’d call 911 for her. Anonymously. After he was a little ways away.
All he could do now was hope that was enough for the kitsune to find a way to get unstuck.

Will the powers of the miraculous be different in the ladybug!luka au, cause looking at vipress makes me think she will have poison or potions-related powers (though this might just be me wanting the miraculous to have more magic-like powers)?
I am still fine tuning the other powers and just who will be part of the cast, but I can share what I have for the ladybug!luka au called Salvation.
I will be putting a focus on the abstract concepts that are the kwamis. They will play a big role in shaping the characters as they progress through the story. For example, Kagami will be subject to the destruction aspect that is Plagg, becoming a living embodiment of destruction as a result due to her repressed desires.
Furthermore, the same power scale as the first AU is in effect here. The more they use their powers, the stronger they are. The stronger the bonds with the kwamis, they are safeguarded against other holders and their powers.
But this is what I have so far with the current holders for Salvation (NOTE: These are subject to change at this point in time):
Luka Couffaine (Ladybug/Creation) - Power: Creation (as the name implies. Passive: Aura of good luck.
Kagami Tsurugi (Black Cat/Destruction) - Power: Destruction. Passive: Bad luck aura.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng (Bee/Devotion) - Power: Devotion (think Charm Person from D&D) Passive: Enhancement (for each person that admires, adores, or idolizes her, she is stronger, resilient, and more agile.)
Adrien Agreste (White Cat/Freedom) - Power: Defiance (defy the rules of reality) Passive: Teleportation.
Colt Fathom (Butterfly/Transformation) - Power: Alter (allows the holder to transform a number of things, which is where the Akumas can manifest) Passive: Warp (An aura that drastically changes people when near the holder)
Gabriel Agreste (Peacock/Beauty) - Power: Beauty (allows the holder to alter/adjust how attractive a person is the traits that make them beautiful) Passive: Enthrallment (gives off an aura that makes everyone perceive him as the most beautiful creature alive)
Felix Fathom (Bat/Fear) - Power: Terror (Allows the holder to warp people's fears, bring their fears to life, put them in horrific nightmares, etc.) Passive: Fear aura.
Juleka Couffaine (Snake/Health) - Power: Flourish/Decay (Flourish is a heal that restores the body, mind, and soul. Decay is the opposite) Passive: Mender (salves, poisons, and potions created and applied are guaranteed to work with a 100% success rate.) (She is essentially an alchemist)
Alya Cesaire (Mouse/Perception) - Power: Bend (allows to manipulate perception) Passive: Perception (enhanced hearing, sight, and smell.)
Lila Rossi (Fox/Deception) - Power: Trick (illusions) Passive: Deceive (those who come in direct contact with the fox (not an illusion) will believe every word she says, no matter how farfetched.)
Nathalie Sancoeur (Spider/Betrayal) - Power: Shatter (can destroy the bonds on lovers, friends, family) Passive: Whispers (those that draw near the spider will hear the whispers of betrayal that push the victim to commit terrible acts)
More will be revealed later once I get a feel for who else will be part of the line-up.

I've been brainstorming my guy for the Fallout 3 role playing game, who will be the Lone Wanderer/MC in my playthrough/headcanon. Settled on a name for him this morning and feeling satisfied with it. 😌 He's called Felix Crevan. Here's some info about him cause I'm a big Fallout fan and enjoyed coming up with ideas for him.
Felix means happy, lucky or successful in Latin. Crevan means fox in Irish.
Personality-wise, I picture him as a warm-hearted treasure hunter who splits the bounty when it's due and uses his tracking, stealth and combat skills to help bring justice to the Capital Wasteland. Felix has a short fuse however, and he's easily aggravated by the remarks of bullies, punks and others thinking the kid is an easy picking. Interpersonal skills are his weakness, but his loyalty and devotion to his few friends and family, as well as his beliefs in altruism. He faced bullying and exclusion from some of his peers growing up in Vault 101. They found him to be easy game or intimidating, respectively. Felix put his studies and vault duties first. He honed his skills with the BB gun and practiced baseball in his spare time.
A curious fellow, Felix liked to sometimes sneak out of bed past curfew as he got older. He felt something strange about the vault and grew curious from overhearing secret conversations between his dad and the medical technician, Jonas, about water and purifiers. This led Felix to sneak into his dad's office and hack into his terminal in search of entries related to those mysterious conversations. He, of course, reset the security after he was done snooping around and couldn't mention it directly to his dad.
Though Felix questioned him about his mother and the overseers' proclamation about never leaving the Vault. His dad was cryptic in his answer but made it clear that all he and his late wife wanted for him was for him to be safe in the Vault. Felix remained suspicious, but he trusted his father. However, it would all come crashing done one morning after he turned 19. Alarms were blaring, and he was jolted awake by his best friend. Her tone was urgent, and nothing about it said something good, rather the polar opposite...

Fruits basket au could be mixed with housebroken or not where when every child gets a gift it comes also with a curse. (The curse is meant to keep them humble) they turn into animal/animal people. I researched for zodiac signs that aren't the Chinese. For Bruno, Julieta and Pepa they're Libras. Bruno becomes a raven, Julieta a Bunny and Pepa a grey wolf, Scorpio Luisa becomes an Eagle, Gemini Antonio becomes a panther cub, Leo Isabela becomes a peacock which is humbling since female peacocks are plain looking, Virgo Dolores becomes a Fox, pisces Mirabel becomes a crow, and Capricorn Camilo becomes a Squirrel.
What triggers them to change into animals is if they're overly stressed or sick or hugged by the opposite sex. They're able to hug those who are in the family or have the curses. Though if Agustin hugged Pepa or Dolores they would turn into their animals and the same if Felix hugged any of his nieces or Julieta. The curse has mercy by allowing married couples to become immune to the curse so they can be embraced. Alma is able to hug since she's a relative.
While the triplets only got their curse after they were gifted, nobody realized they were cursed until the first time they got stressed out. Mirabel was the only one to get a curse while not getting a door. It indicated for the family that Mirabel probably had a gift, they just didn't know what it was or why she didn't get a room
I haven’t watched Fruits Basket yet, but I have seen a ton of clips and kind of??? Have a grip on the basic plot. ANYWAY. I think this is a cool idea! Again, I really need to get around to watching it, but from what I’ve seen, I think this would be like, super awesome????
Very cool, very cash money ❤️❤️ can’t have them getting too cocky, gotta see to it that they get humbled rq 🗿 Also??? Since Mirabel still cursed so they treat her differently or nah??? Just wonderin tbh

What are your opinions on Lukanette, Felinette and Adrigami?
Lukanette
I think Lukanette is a good ship with a lot of potential. Luka is a calm and patient person, which is what Marinette needs to help her get through her chaotic life. Just them being together would already help take care of one of Marinette's problems since it ends all the love schemes.
Plus, on a bit of the practical side, since I'm always looking at that angle if their relationship gets to the point where Luka learns Ladybug's identity, and she gives him the Snake Miraculous like she gave the Fox to Alya, one of the more overpowered Miraculous wouldn't be given to Hawkmoth by Felix.
Felinette
The canon version of Felix I don't ship with Marinette. However, the fanon version that was crafted long before Astruc made his official debut is okay in my opinion. He's basically a more snarky version of Adrien, which is something I can get behind.
Adrigami
Adrigami has potential in an 'opposites attract' type of way. Adrien, who would prefer to avoid conflict, versus Kagami, who isn't afraid to talk back to people like with Chloe. It opens the chance for a lot of growth between the two. Their similar backgrounds also help.
On another practical level, it would get rid of Cat Noir focusing on his love life with Ladybug. Which would improve team dynamics and help open a path for more people to have a Miraculous permanently.
Honestly, the two canon ships that ended in less than five episodes had a lot of potential. I think it would have been better if Marinette and Adrien realized they were chasing shadows, and the love square fell apart so Marinette could date Luka and Adrien could date Kagami. It could have been a cool twist to the show. That's just my opinion, though.

@headstrongblake sent: [ TRUST ] for a scenario where sender’s muse is the only one receivers muse will let close. Mob!parents
He’s in a Mood today, with a capital M. She doesn’t know what happened but whatever it is, he’s on edge and no one wants to be around him. His henchmen are, of course, it’s their job or whatever, but they clearly want to be anywhere but here as sharp blue eyes, sharp enough to cut a man if he’s not careful, scan documents in the back booth. She brings coffee, and more coffee, and a piece of pie he didn’t actually order. But eventually he does snap- the diner is empty, even Felix has gone, needing to be with his family but unwilling to even attempt to kick Nicklas out and instead leaving the closing key with Fox- and a loud, metallic clunk betray his gun on the table and his henchmen scatter, some out the door to try to fix whatever was fucked up, some merely to the other end of the diner, one stopping her to warn her they weren’t leaving anytime soon.
‘ don’t go back over unless he calls you. he’s not in a mood to be trifled with today. ’
She watches him in the corner booth, and glances back to the unobtrusive man who’s name she doesn’t actually know.   “ Go take a smoke, yeah? ”
‘ girl, you don’t know who you’re fucking with- ’
“ Not a suggestion. Go, and take Rambo and Rocky with you, yeah? ”   She ushers him and the others out, feeling the weight of Nicklas’ eyes on her like his gaze was physical. She shut the door behind the men, and with a loud click, locked the door behind them, flipping the open sign to closed right in his face and turning back to Nick, sauntering closer to his table until she was at his, leaning against the seat opposite him, unwilling to sit there unless he wanted her to. The matte black of his gun lay between them, and she raised a brow at him.
“ So. Bad day? ”
