You smiled to yourself as you popped in your ear buds. It was finally your 'me' time in the day. And to say the least today was exhausting and you needed some music in your life. Excitement rushed through your veins, it was finally time to listen to your favorite album and your favorite artist. You were bubbling with excitement, you just couldn’t wait. You unlocked your phone and tapped on your music app. You scrolled until you found your favorite album. Reputation by Taylor Swift. Out of her discography rep was most definitely your favorite and the best out of her other albums in your honest opinion. It was different and unique from the rest of her work that’s what made it special. Of course the rest of her discography was amazing but this album held a special place in your heart.
This album always pumped you up. It always brought a smile to your face when you were down. When you were sad it made everything better. They say books can take you to magical places but in your case it wasn’t a book, It was Reputation and any of Taylor Swift’s music. Her music was magical in your eyes, her lyrics were like poetry, they’re beautiful. They’re amazing. It’s what got you through the good and bad. But it wasn’t just her music that helped a certain cowboy, helped as well. You blush at the thought of your boyfriend, he always had this effect on you. You tucked a piece of your hair behind your ear, smiling at the thought of your boyfriend. You also couldn’t help but feel excited to see him in the next 30 minutes. Currently it is 2:30 and he said he’d be at your place at 3:00. So you have about 30 minutes to listen to tswift and relax. This sounded perfect. You headed towards your room, you twisted the doorknob and flicked the lightswitch.
Once you stepped into your room you plopped onto your soft, comfy bed. You hit play on Reputation and the first track started to play …Ready for it? The song started to play and after a minute you couldn’t help but move from your bed. It was a difficult move since your covers and pillows were ever so soft and comforted you greatly. But suddenly you were in the mood for a little dance even if you weren’t the best, at the end of the day it was all about having fun. You started to shuffle your feet, a giggle escaped your lips as you continued to shake your hips trying to match the rhythm of the song. Dancing hasn’t always been your forte and you haven’t always enjoyed it but when you're alone and not judged by others it feels good. It also helped you were listening to rep. Suddenly you felt a strong arms wrap around your waist. You squealed in surprise. And you may or may not be very, very ticklish. You whipped your head around to meet a pair of golden eyes. You put a hand over your heart, it raced fast.
You swat his arm, “You scared the crap out of me Jazz.” He chuckled at your response. “Sorry Darlin’ didn’t mean to startle ya.” He smiled dazzlingly at you.
You pulled your earbuds out of your ears to hear him better. You quickly pause your music and toss your phone on your bed. You admired his smile, you could never stay mad at him long.
You shake your head and a small smile graces your face. “I thought you said you wouldn’t be here until 3:00?” You question, raising your eyebrow.
“Sorry darlin’ I missed you too much.”
“You just saw me like an hour ago, you know!”
“Well excuse me darlin’ but I missed you and I’ll take any chance to see you.” You smiled at him like a dork. You blushed and closed the gap between the two of you. You pressed your lips against his cold ones. It made you shiver and yet it was a wonderful feeling. A warm feeling blossomed in your chest as you kissed him. You pulled away and giggled, you looked up at him and you couldn't help but look deep into his honey eyes. He smiled warmly at you, and caressed your cheek. “I also may or may not have felt that you're a bit exhausted and I wanted to do anything to help ya.”
Your heart melts, it's official you have the sweetest boyfriend. “Aww thank you Jasper, that is so sweet and considerate of you. I love you.” He beams and you lean in and hug him tightly.
“May I have this dance?” You smiled at him and took his hand. He pulled his phone out of his pocket and pressed play. The beat of lover came on, it was one of your favorites.
He wrapped his arms around your waist and you rested your hand on his chest. You both swayed together and danced to the slow beat.
You felt glad he came over. He always came when you needed him. It really helped that he could feel what you felt, it may or may not have come in handy at times. He has this wonderful talent of taking away your worries and making everything better. He had the best hugs and always knew the right words to say He really was the perfect boyfriend.
The End.

It was the night of the Melon Music Awards.
Award season was going strong and the Daesangs were passed around to the usual suspects, or so people thought.
This year things were different, very much so from the average year. This year there was one man, nay one phenomenon who had been sweeping the grand price at every award show he went to.
Y/n L/n, soloist under High Up Entertainment, whose only other noteworthy act was StayC.
Y/n, also known as the 4th gen IT boy, the nation's dream boy and many other, some of them not so PG, nicknames, had debuted this year and was on a streak of breaking records after records, earning him the title of "The Greatest Thing to Happen to Kpop since BTS"
The main appeal of Y/n was that he wasn't only self produced, an incredibly talented singer, songwriter and rapper, one of the best dancers in the industry according to a survey answered by idols in the industry, but also his ethereal visuals. Y/n stood out from the bunch due to his confidence, his height and his impeccable discography.
To many idols, both male and female, Y/n was the definition of crush material. And one of them specifically wanted to use today as an opportunity to finally claim the nation's IT boy as her own.
--3rd Person POV--
Yuna had been eyeing Y/n the whole night, some may even say the whole year. Ever since he debuted she was always talking about his music on Vlives, reposting herself listening to him on Instagram and so much more.
She knew she was wanted by damn near the whole industry and she knew she could have any of them, but none of them were Y/n L/n. None of them had what she truly needed, what she desired.
The night had been another one for the history books, with Y/n dropping another masterclass of a performance and sweeping yet another set of awards, but it was nearing the end.
"And the last award of the night, the award for the Album of The Year goes to......Y/n L/n!"
Soon after the announcer finished his speech confetti shot out on the stage. The camera pans towards a tall man, 20 years of age. He's wearing black a three piece suit, tailor made and exclusively designed for him by Dior, and a black Dior tie . His stance, his confidence, his fragrance, everything about him screams wealth and confidence. His handsome face shows a smile as he stands up and walks up to receive his award.
"I know you might be sick of seeing my face at this point and I'm sorry for that! I want to thank all my fans for everything they've done for me, coming from a smaller company I didn't really expect to achieve this level of fame yet but I am happy to give both me, our company and my lovely StayC sunbaenims more exposure! I want to thank Dior for making this outfit for me tonight and I want to thank everyone who streamed my music! I'll be releasing more next year so be tuned for that. Lastly, I'd like to thank all my peers, ranging from BTS, Red Velvet and TWICE sunbaenims, to NewJeans, IVE, Le Sserafim and Aespa and Itzy noonas for creating music. Your music is amazing and it definitely motivates me to continue making music myself! Please never stop because I love every single one of you! Thank you for another award and good night!"
And with that, Y/n left the stage while the whole building clapped for him. The groups mentioned, blushing while doing so, clapped even harder as they believed this would help them get closer to Y/n.
The night continued and after the event a party for all of the artists was held. To many, this meant drinking and letting lose but to others, it meant getting drunk and getting laid.
--Y/n POV--
I watched as my peers around me let lose a little. It was a nice sight to see if I'm honest. Most of them are way too stuck up due to companies putting bullshit rules on their dating lives and on their personalities. It was nice seeing them unfiltered for once.
Speaking of being comfortable, I finally got around to take off a bit of clothing. I had taken off my jacket and vest, leaving me only in my tie and dress shirt, of which I had rolled up the sleeves to get a bit more comfortable.
"Y/n congratulations on the win!~", a obviously drunk Karina told me as she went for a hug.
"Thank you so much Jimin. You and the girls were great during your performance, I loved your outfits", I replied while hugging her. Even with the strong smell of alcohol on her I still could smell her perfume.
"Thank you baby~ Say, how about we get out of here Y/nn? I really want to spend some time with you alone", Karina told me in a sultry tone.
"Rina I'm flattered but you're obviously drunk. How about I give you my number and we spend some time some other day when you're sober again?", I replied while holding her so that she didn't fall to the ground.
"Gladly~", she replied while giving me her phone.
I typed my number in and saved it before searching for her members and her manager. I looked around for a while before finding Winter and Giselle next to a sleeping NingNing. As I walked towards them Karina started hugging and snuggling up to my side, which made a certain blonde stare daggers into her head.
"Girls please help me with your drunk leader.", I started before dropping onto the couch next to NingNing.
"Oh~ Wha- Y/n? What are you doing here?", NingNing asked me, a bit startled.
"Sorry for waking you up Ning. I was looking for your manager because I think it would be better if you girls went home now.", I told her
Soon after that I spotted their manager appearing, seemingly out of nowhere and looking stressed.
"Manager-nim! Can we go home now? It's getting boring and Jimin had too much to drink already.", Giselle told their manager.
"Sure-" "
Y/nn I don't want to leave you yet~", Karina interrupted them while 'crying'. God knows why she started being cutesy but it was kinda working on me.
"Rina I promise I'll call you after I get home, we can definitely do something tomorrow but now it's better if you went home and slept for a bit.", I told Karina while holding her face forcing her to look me in the eyes.
It was as if she was in a trance and I'm not quite sure if she even heard me but all she said was "Ok" and with that Aespa said their goodbyes and left.
Now it was like before, I was alone and everyone else was having fun. Of course occasionally artists would come up to me and congratulate me. I was especially surprised and moved by Red Velvet and Twice appearing and thanking me for the words I said towards them, but also by Minji from NewJeans, who came up to me and asked me for my number while stuttering, which I found really cute.
However, it soon died down and with everyone being drunk I was about to leave until-
"Y/n wait up!", someone called me from behind.
"Yuna?", I stated questioningly before turning around.
"Wow you really know my voice that well?~ Am I your bias or how did you recognize me that easily?", the gorgeous blonde teased me.
"You are my bias, yeah, but I also noticed you staring at me a long time from that corner over there. Where you mustering up the courage to come up to me all that time?~", I teased her back which resulted in her becoming as red as a tomato.
"Y-Yah it's not my fault you're so intimidating. Doesn't help that you're that handsome either", She said while whispering the last part.
"Anyways, what's up Yuna? Why'd you call me?", I questioned her
"Ah right! You seemed really bored, just like me, so I wanted to ask if you'd like to do something? Drinking isn't really for me since and everyone else but you is damn near blackout drunk soooo", She said while looking up to me.
I smiled at her before agreeing to her offer, which seemingly flipped a switch in her as she now stared at me with lust and hunger in her eyes.
"What did you have in mind noona?", I asked her
"Aish I'm barely older than you, you can drop the honorifics Y/n", she replied while grabbing my hand and dragging me off.
It was dark and I barely couldn't see where we were going, the light only allowed me to see what was in front of me.
We soon reached a door and Yuna walked inside, the bright light startling me due to the contrast to the dark corridors of the venue. I soon realised that she took me to a bathroom and I then realised what kinda of activity Yuna had planned for us.
I turned around and took in her outfit. The lighting in the previous rooms had not done her any justice. It was as if Aphrodite herself had stepped down from heaven and was now reborn as Shin Yuna. She wore a short black dress, designed by Prada for her, matched with high heels that made her damn near 6 feet tall. She had a Louis Vuitton bag in her hand. Her make up was impeccable, it was natural while putting focus on her beautiful features and bringing them out even more. Her lips were full and glossy, natural in their colour and still so beautiful. Her big eyes stared at me, lust evident in them, while blonde hair fell over her shoulders and covered a bit of her forehead. She still still had fake tattoos on her arm from her group's performance. To put it simply, she was ethereal.
"Take a picture it'll last longer", She said, taking you out of your train of thought.
"I'm sorry for staring, you're just really gorgeous", I told her while walking up to her.
She smiled and closed the distance. Our faces were now centimeters apart from each other.
"I'm sure you know why I took you here, don't you big boy? I know you've been given enough prizes already but theres one right in front of you and she wants to be taken by you too." She said before finally closing the distance completely.
It was as if time stopped for a second, my brain was overstimulated due to her scent and the taste of her lips. They tasted sweeter than the sweetest cherries I had ever eaten and it was addicting. Our tongues battled for dominance and we both tried, and failed, to take each others clothes off while making out. I grabbed the straps of her dress and let them fall off her shoulders while she fumbled to get my tie off.
I helped her with taking my shirt and tie off while she took off the rest of her dress. After what felt like an eternity, we both reluctantly stopped kissing in order to catch our breath. I looked her, seeing her only in her bra and panties, while she stared at my abs and chest.
"Take a picture it'll last longer", I told her while smirking
"Shut up and kiss me you idiot", She replied while closing the distance again.
This time she jumped onto me, which gave me the message she wanted me to sit her on the sink. I carried her over and continued making out with Itzy's maknae. My hands found their way towards her waist, gripping it firmly, while her arms interlocked behind my neck, forcing my tongue, which was now inside her mouth, even deeper down her throat. I removed one hand from her waist and expertly took off my belt in one swift motion, letting my pants drop to the floor.
We broke off our kissing and I looked at the goddess in front of me. Her lips were swollen, her eyes dripping with lust and her breathing rapid and uneven.
"I want to taste you.", I told her assertively.
She didn't respond but instead looked me in the eyes, practically begging me to do so, so I did.
I took off her bra and started working on her breasts. I sucked on the skin around them before moving onto the nipples. I played with one of them while sucking the other and vice versa, always making sure to threat them equally. I felt her look at me which made me assume Yuna looked down on me, probably smiling and taking a mental picture of the situation. I knew of her crush on me, the girl wasn't hiding it very well and I'm not stupid nor oblivious, but I can say that I was surprised of her courage to shoot her shot like this.
I continued moving down, liking up and down her toned, flat stomach before making my way to the main dish. She wore black semi see through panties and I quickly noticed that they were damp. I teased her a bit by kissing around her core, licking her inner thighs and biting the flesh, before diving in and pressing my tongue on her clothed vagina. She threw her head back and it was in that moment that I realized that her panties were not damp, they were soaked. I took them off with my teeth, sliding them down to her legs before raised them in order for me to take them off completely. I looked at her pussy. The scent was driving me crazy. It looked freshly shaven and, just as anyone with more than one functioning brain cell could've guessed, was very clean too. I didn't want to waste more time and dove in tongue first. I liked around her outer labia while making circles with my thumb on her erect clit. Yuna was in heaven as far as I could tell based one her moans and how hard she was gripping my hair, so I decided to add even more stimulation. I stuck my tongue inside her wet core, tongue fucking her while continuously playing with her clit and now also her nipples. After a while I switched it up, latching my mouth onto her clit before sticking two fingers inside her and fingering her. Soon enough she came, or rather erupted, as she squirted all over my face and onto the floor behind me. She looked satisfied, however I wasn't finished, so I continued eating her out and it seemed like the stimulation was too much for her sensitive body as she came again soon after, violently shanking and moaning before spraying her sweet nectar on me again.
I stood up and took off the final piece of clothing, my underwear, before taking a few tissues and cleaning my face.
Yuna looked down at me and her eyes widened after laying eyes on my dick before slowly getting off the sink and sinking down to her knees.
She took me into her mouth, trying to fit as much as she could into her before sucking on the tip. She looked up at me, still with lust, while bobbing her head up and down on my member. The bathroom was now filled with gagging and slurping noised as the blonde continued reciprocating the energy I just gave her and sucking me off. She slowly but surely took in inch after inch before going back up and gasping for air. Yuna stroked my cock, which was now completely coated in a thick layer of saliva, before getting up and bending over the sink and swaying her ass at me.
"I think that was enough foreplay, please get over here for the main course Y/n. Claim your prize."
I walked over and positioned myself behind her, however, before entering, I had an idea. I grabbed my tie from the floor and tied Yuna's hands behind her back, using my accessory as a makeshift handcuff, before penetrating her petite body. The bathroom was once again filled witg a loud moan, this time coming from both of us an a kind of perverse harmony. It was as if time stopped again. I felt every fiber, every muscle contracting on my dick. It was as tight as our schedule and as hot as magma. Yuna's pussy felt like heaven and it took everything I had in me to not cum inside her that second. I stayed still for a second, giving her time to adjust to my size before finally fucking her. I thrusted deep, hard and fast into her, fucking as if it was the last day on earth. With every thrust I felt her pussy clench around my dick and I saw her ass jiggle. With every thrust her moans reached a higher pitch, reaching octaves that she didn't even reach in the studio. With every thrust I felt the knot in my stomach growing bigger and bigger, I felt that familiar sensation boiling up and coming to a climax. With every thrust I saw Yuna's mouth hanging open wider and wider, more and more drool dripping out of her mouth. With every thrust her eyes rolled further and further into her skull. Her hands had gone limp, hands which she could've used for support had they not been tied up. All of this culminated into a climax, a climax as hard as either of us had every climaxed before, with Yuna clenching so hard around me that it was borderline impossible for me to go out of her again, before violently shaking again and dropping with her face down onto the sink. I continued thrusting throughout her climax and just as I felt the knot in my stomach about to explode I looked her into her eyes and they told me one thing- to not pull out.
So that exactly what I did. With one last thrust I buried myself as deep as I could inside her before finally releasing all of my semen into Shin Yuna's womb. Thick spurt after thick spurt shot out of my dick, coating her insides in a layer of cum, so much so that it started dripping down her thighs. I stayed inside her for a bit before finally pulling out, exhausted but still hard.
Still unsatisfied I picked Yuna up, holding her from beneath her thighs while having her back turned to him. I walked in front of the mirrors before entering Yuna again, making her release a long drawn out moan. I continued pistoling in and out of her like me life depended on it, making sure she could see her lewd expression on the mirror before slowly but surely feeling myself come to a climax again. I continued fucking her, slowing down a bit but thrusting harder than before until Yuna came, squirting onto the mirrors in front of her. Her head dropped down in exhaustion and a few seconds after I came inside her for the second time this night. I emptied out my semen before placing the exhausted girl down on the floor, seeing as a puddle of my cum was slowly building due to it overflowing or rather flowing out of her.
Yuna was breathing heavily, barely being able to hold herself upright before speaking for the first time in forever-
"We aren't done yet. I still need your cum in my mouth.", She told, no she demanded of me.
Yuna crawled towards me before taking my semi hard dick into her mouth, tasting a mixture of our cum. She licked around the tip, this time being unable to both support herself and stroke me due to her hands being tied up. She gagged on my cock, going further and further down each time, almost trying to increase her depth with each lick. I felt her throat tightening around me, making me feel things I had never felt before. She continued bobbing her head up and down until I decided that I had enough and took the lead myself. I grabbed both sides of her head and started throat fucking Yuna. The gagging got louder and Yuna got wetter. From where I was standing I could make out the shape of a smile forming onto her face. I continued bucking my hips back and forth, reaching further and further with each thrust until, for the third time that night, I felt my orgasm inching closer and closer. My thrusts became sloppier, my grip on Yuna's hair loosened and soon, with one last throb, my dick came undone in Yuna again, this time coating her throat in thick, white, hot, sticky spurts of cum.
I stayed inside her for a while, giving enough room to breathe but also making sure she kept all of my cum inside her mouth, until finally backing off and looking at what I had done to her. Her make up ruined, her chin coated in saliva and precum, between her legs was a puddle of my semen and her cum and our clothes were scattered around the bathroom. The sink was wet, the mirrors were foggy and still had her squirt on them and my pants were soaked in her juices. I looked at her and she innocently looked back, smiling sweetly before standing up and cleaning herself.
We both put our clothes back on before she walked, or rather limped, back to her members. The party was surprisingly still on going, however, it was more than appropriate for me to leave. I looked back at Yuna, bowing towards her members before seeing her wink at me and soon I left the party. I got into my car, asking my manager to drive me back to my house before checking my phone, seeing two new messages.
unknown number
>hi Y/nn. I hope you had fun, I already miss having you inside me baby. I got your number from Jihyo unnie, hope you don't mind. Feel free to call me if you want to 'spend some time' together again ;) I feel so full right now, thank you for your nutritious meal.
See you soon handsome~ xoxo -Yuna
'This girl will be the death of me', I muttered while throwing my head back. I quickly replied to her before looking at the second message.
Rina Noona❤️
>Y/nn~ I think you can tell who this is based on the name I put but I got home and I'm feeling better already. Please text me once you get home, or call me. No matter the time I'll pick up. I really want to hear your voice again baby~ I'll definitely hold you up to that offer too because I always get what I want and you just happen to be first place on my wishlist right now. Don't forget to hit me up or I'll be sad :(
xoxo your -your favourite Idol in the whole wide world.

hi Raytorosaurus, in the beginning of your post you said Ray has done interviews, podcasts, and blogged in recent years, can you please link me to those things? I would be extremely and eternally grateful <3
yes ofc!! this one by tom bryant (author of not the life it seems) is my favourite! and not just because ray talks about how much he loves being a stay at home dad doing chores while his wife gets her master's degree. it's just sweet, and goes a little more in depth into remember the laughter's concept than some of these other interviews.
this one isn't remember the laughter related, but tom bryant also did this interview with him the year before, after he released for the lost and brave dedicated to leelah alcorn (cw non-graphic discussion of suicide). it's really fucking sweet. ray talks a lot about his family and about fatherhood and about how he wants to raise his kids to be as kind and socially conscious as possible in pretty much all of the interviews i've linked here, but i really fucking love this thing he says in this one in particular:
"If ever my son was having a rough time I would just hope that he would trust me and allow me to be there for him. It’s common for parents and older people to look at youth in a negative way and to not respect the young as people. My wife always says that a lot of parents treat their kids like property – the whole, ‘this is my house, these are my rules and you must abide by my law’. You have to put yourself on the same level as your kid, you have to relate to them as a person. I hope that there’s more understanding about the differences between people in the future that my son grows up in.”
at the risk of sounding like a broken record, this one is also really fucking sweet. again he talks about the values he wants to impart on his kids, and how his son is featured in the lucky ones playing his child's percussion set :'''')
this one is a bit longer and just rly cute lol like just fun vibes
there's a couple of shorter ones here and here that are also worth a read. there's also this review that i like - it's not 100% positive but the writer does make a point of saying he's shocked the album didn't get much attention despite ray having been in mcr. yeah me too dude :(
this is a podcast he appeared on - he did at least one or two others but i think sadly they've been lost to time :(((((( but god this one is so sweet he's just sooooo. so <3. ray also says the band broke up a few weeks after his son was born in september 2012 which is interesting lol.
sadly a bunch of his blog stuff has been lost to time because the wayback machine has done a spotty job of archiving it but you can try to explore around the archived pages a bit. if you click around to different dates or subpages you can see some of his photography (tho sadly a lot of it hasn't been saved :((( ) and a few blog posts. you might even come across his shitty vent poetry lol <3333
and then i love this interview sooooo much too like this writer really gets it. ray talks about how he got obsessed with this free climber after watching a mountaineering documentary which inspired the great beyond, so the great beyond actually features a fucking chalk bag as a percussion instrument because he's insane and i love him. it also has the line "enthusiasm leaking from him like a punctured capri-sun" LOL. and then it wraps up with this statement that i really love:
Mixed, engineered and almost entirely performed by Toro, ‘Remember The Laughter’ is very much this man’s pride and joy. Every nuance of the record is explained with intricate detail and the subject matter held within comes straight from his heart. Whether you like it or not remains to be seen, as its influences are often drawn from well outside the My Chemical Romance sphere. Whether you listen to it or not, though, really comes down to this: do you want to hear some honest music?
because honestly that's the one common thread through all of mcr's discography and every single one of their solo projects. they are all 100% earnest. they all access that honesty in different ways and ray's definitely not a super accomplished lyricist so some of the lines on rtl verge on corny or schmaltzy sometimes but they never, ever sound fake or inauthentic. he wrote the album imagining he was speaking the lyrics to his son to instill a sense of hope in him about the world so he'd grow up with the belief that he was capable of making it a better place and he fucking means every word of it bro. he's ray toro :( i like him :((((

i was lowkey tumblr stalking asks you’ve answered before (i apologize i just love how in depth u answer) and now i wanna know your tierlist (A/B/C/D/F) for the songs on GUTS. include deluxe pls bc imo the deluxe tracks are better than many main album tracks hehe
well first off you can ALWAYS stalk me and never apologize for it, i love answering stuff and i love that people actually read it HAHA! so please <3 stalk away <3 i love it
i LOVE this question. i was going to make one of those images like the youtubers do for tier lists but then i realized i would have to explain myself anyway so im just going to give each song a letter grade and a little blurb about why i think this... so here goes 🤓
i actually have to put this under a cut because it got so long that i am not going to clog up people's dash with my long and way too detailed thoughts on GUTS but please read this if it is of interest bc i would love to continue discussing haha
so first i'm going to say to me overall guts is like a solid A-/A for a sophomore album. i don't think it's perfect but i think as far as showing growth from the first album, expanding on themes and sounds that were explored in sour, and just maturing while still feeling like a natural progression -- i think it does all of that really nicely while also managing to carve out a unique niche for olivia in the industry. so like. YES! great. (i have been saying that while i see olivia compared to taylor swift a lot, i think it's actually a much better comparison to compare her to avril lavigne in the early 2000s -- avril was originally "discovered" via performing with shania twain (which in some ways we could argue for being a taylor/olivia situation but in the 90s) and a lot of her early work and songwriting is influenced by the country music scene, but, just like olivia, her first album smashed onto the scene and captured the teenage zeitgeist in a really unique and special that was really of the moment it was released and dug into rock inspired hooks and sounds that resonated with the audience of young teens. if "driver's license" is olivia's "complicated," i think we can easily argue that "good 4 u" is her sk8r boi. (and deja vu is her i'm with you, the best single and best song in both of their discographies I SAID WHAT I SAID!) anyway all that is to say i think that GUTS and under my skin ALSO share a lot of parallels both in how they were marketed and the way they dive deeper into darker themes while expanding on a lot of what made the first album great, if perhaps not spawning the level of radio hits as the first album. anyway it's just something i think about that i don't see talked about all that much and i find it really interesting. i could keep going but i know that was an insane digression so let's get to the grades.)
all american bitch - B+ i think this song is a great opener and it has some really great lines in it -- the sarcasm makes it so fun and tongue in cheek and i actually like the scream, my reason for not being able to give it an A is just that i do feel like it's very much "putting on a persona" of being a rock punk chick, which is absolutely cool and is extremely well done, it just doesn't feel 100% authentic to me. like, i like the scream but it feels more like an acting performance than a genuine scream of anguish, but olivia is such an appealing actress that i'm like, yeah girl go off
bad idea right? - A+ this is the deja vu of the album for me. it is SUCH A GOOD SONG and it has the best video by far of any of the singles, it's so clever and creative and i actually really love her vocal delivery, it's bratty and obnoxious but for some reason it DOES feel authentic to me in a way AAB doesn't, i think it takes its influences and manages to reinterpret and transform them into something totally unique and personal to olivia and it's just GREAT. (i think a great example of how good this song is is honestly the kelly clarkson cover she did, it was a really fun cover but you could just tell that olivia's version works better, it's a song that feels like it could only be done by her and i love it for that.)
vampire - B i actually thought i'd rate this lower bc it is my least favorite song on the album but like, okay it's FINE. my issue with vampire is that 1) it feels like the label said "write another ballad that sounds like drivers license and we'll use that as the lead single" which i don't like, and 2) i've written before that my main issue with vampire is that it DOES NOT COMMIT to the genuinely cool metaphor that it attempts. i actually love the line "you only come out at night" because i think it's really clever and creative to extend the "sucking me dry" metaphor of a vampire. i think following that up with "i used to think i was smart but you made me look so naive" is such a let down and so cliche that it annoys me every time i hear the song. like, if the song instead was like "i should have known it was strange, you only come out at night/you said i tasted so sweet til nothing was left in my veins" or something i would think it was a great song. but instead we get that clunky cliche of a line and it irritates me. the song has potential but it just doesn't deliver.
lacy - A- (tw: ed) so i think that this song is about struggling with an ed and i think it is really amazing if you read it through that lens. i don't even really want to say that much more about it because when i saw someone say that on twitter and i listened to the song thinking about that, it hit me really hard and i think it's brilliantly done but it's intense. i think olivia said that it came out of a poem she wrote and i think that lacy is the personification of that really personal struggle and i think it's a beautiful and deeply sad metaphor and the song actually does it really well. i also really love her vocal delivery on the recording and i think it's beautifully produced, the layered vocals at the end are really gorgeous.
ballad of a homeschooled girl - A- honestly i have the same comments as i do about all american bitch except i just think this song is slightly better and feels a little more authentic. i think the lyrics on this one are really clever as well and i love the little production quirks like "how to flirt" and the outro is SO FUN and i love the sort of fourth wall break of "can't think of a third line" and the la la la that just kind of smashes into the end of the song, i think it works so well with the concept of the song so yeah. great.
making the bed - B+ this is a song where i'm like, there's nothing WRONG with it i just don't think it's particularly special, like it's a good song and it has some really great lyrics i just think it's a decent song that accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do. it's good. no real notes. my favorite lyric is "they tell me that they love me like i'm some tourist attraction" -- i love when the pop girls talk about the complexities of fame, and olivia seems strikingly self aware in a lot of her lyrics and that one is really a hard hitter. (it reminds me of billie's getting older song, "the things i once enjoyed just keep me employed now" and "another thing i ruined i used to do for fun" which are both lines that i feel like really do a nice job of exploring how it feels when your art and artistic expression becomes a job and a persona. i think billie and olivia are doing so much cool stuff and they both just seem like such cool and interesting girls. they just give the vibe that it would be so fun to get dinner with them and talk about their experience of teenage fame because they both seem to have some really interesting and complex insights about it.)
logical - B- tbh this song is kinda boring to me. it's fine but i just think it's a theme that is explored better in other songs. the one line i really like is "if rain don't pour and sun don't shine" because i like to imagine that it's a reference to taming of the shrew act iv scene v.
get him back! - A+ SO GOOD COME ON GET HIM BACK IS SO GOOD AHHHHHH i get mad thinking about the music video bc the iphone lens makes it so weird and i think this could've had an even better video without the iphone gimmick but holy cow this song is so good. it's so clever, it's so fun, it ROCKS. (though this is the point on the album where i start to get annoyed by all the production quirks, i think they are fun on a couple songs but we don't need the "is this the song with drums" thing, just play the song. there's only so much studio chatter that makes a song fun before it gets a little grating to listen to every time i want to play the song.) but this is a brilliant song. I WANNA MEET HIS MOM AND TELL HER HER SON SUCKS. has anyone ever more perfectly captured how it feels to be nineteen. ugh this song is so good.
love is embarrassing - A i actually really like this song and i think it's a really nice spiritual closer to sour. it does such a nice job of reflecting but in a funny, tongue-in-cheek, self aware way that i think is so appealing and cute. i love "you found a new version of me and i damn near started world war three" as a callback to "another actress i hate to think that i was just your type" and i LOOOVE the outro with "i'm planning out my wedding with some guy i'm never marrying" which i think is a fantastic line. i love the vocal delivery on the outro as well. (also this is an example for me of a song with no studio chatter or production gimmicks, and it's GOOD bc it's like, it doesn't need that! it's just a fun song! and i like it for that!!)
the grudge - A- honestly a beautiful song that captures a very specific feeling. i love the melody and the way she delivers "how could anybody do the things you did so easily?" the second verse is an absolute gut punch of what it feels like to come away from a toxic love. it has a couple clunkers (i'm not a fan of "trust that you betrayed, confusion that still lingers" which i think is just a bit awkward) but overall it's a lovely song and so raw.
pretty isn't pretty - A again just a really solid work. i love the guitar sound on it. and i think it does a really nice job of capturing another specific teenage emotion. one thing i love on GUTS is that it feels legitimately balanced between songs about heartbreak and songs about personal feelings and this song is one that i think does that second part very well. i really love the second prechorus line "it's in my phone it's in my head it's in the boys i bring to bed" and i think this song is really insightful and personal.
teenage dream - B my issue with this song is my same issue with hope ur ok which is that it just feels so aware of itself as AN ALBUM CLOSER and i find it a bit cloying. i think the theme is interesting and has potential but the song just annoys me because it feels kind of overdone. idk. i just don't love it. i get it and i get why it's there but i think there was a better way of closing the album in a more genuine way.
BONUS TRACKS RANKING LINK (i have to link a new post here since i hit the character limit on this post. geez lol)

💫𝐘𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 2023💫
2023 has been a year to say the least so lets get into this 😂. As usual this is in no particular order cause I cant handle putting these into a proper order.
𝐓𝐨𝐩 5 𝐃𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐚𝐬:
1. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐰 𝐂𝐚𝐟𝐞 (2022).
Tumblr media
I watched this on a whim and boy am I glad I did. The female lead is so unhinged but in the best way and our main guy is so in love with her I cant. Literally this drama was such a fun time and everything connected together so well. Just watch this drama pls.
2. 𝐁𝐨 𝐑𝐚! 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐡 {𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞} (2023).
Tumblr media
Yoo In Na shines and I love the character growth that both the leads go through, everything that happens makes sense and it really does show that working on yourself isnt a linear process. There will be set backs but you can over come them. I tend to not care for side couples but I loved all of them in this, they were just hilarious or adorable.
3. 𝐓𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧 (2023).
Tumblr media
I wasnt going to watch this drama but thankfully instagram reels made me interested enough to give this a chance. I love all 4 of the leads, they are my babies and they deserve all the happiness in the world.
4. 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐅𝐥𝐲 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐘𝐨𝐮 (2023).
Tumblr media
This was such a cute, fun drama. I didnt expect to love it as much as I did, the family dynamics, friendships, everything was so well done and the 2 couples were the cutest.
5. 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞 (2023).
Tumblr media
Literally Instagram reels made me watch this and I do not regret it. The melodrama, romance, revenge, plot twists... Everything was such a wild ride, I recommend that everyone watches it.
𝐓𝐨𝐩 5 𝐍𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐰𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬:
1. 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫 ~ 𝐒𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐧.
The irony, I always said that I wouldnt stan a group with more than 7 members 😂. Honestly I was just seeing too many funny reels about SVT and then I watched the Game Caterers videos without even knowing all of their names and Super was everywhere that I just fell into the rabbit hole that is Seventeen.
2. 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 ~ 𝐉𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐨.
My bias came and she ate. I love this song and it showed in my top 2023 songs its at number 6... The top 5 are all Taylor obviously.
3. 𝐒𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧 ~ 𝐉𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐤𝐨𝐨𝐤.
He came and took over the world. Nothing more to say about that.
4. 𝐁𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐦 ~ 𝐄𝐧𝐡𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐧.
Yall need to stop sleeping on Enhas japanese discography. This song is just so sweet and wonderful. I cant with it.
5. 𝐔𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐧 ~ 𝐋𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐢𝐦.
I just loved this whole song and the album too. Next LSF comeback when?!.
𝐓𝐨𝐩 5 𝐓𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐰𝐢𝐟𝐭 𝐒𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬:
So last time I only had the vault tracks but Speak Now was the album that made me a swiftie so not limiting myself to just the vault tracks this time.
1. 𝐇𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝.
This is my absolute favourite song. It is just such a masterpiece and can be related to in any situation.
2. 𝐄𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐝.
I love this song so much, I have a one shot of the same name 😂.
3. 𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐅𝐥𝐲.
Im a hopeless romantic okay.
4. 𝐈𝐬 𝐈𝐭 𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐨𝐰.
Do I even need to explain myself with this.
5. 𝐒𝐥𝐮𝐭!.
Most definitely not what I was expecting but I love it so much.
5 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐝:
1. Bestie got married, shes happy and Im happy for her. It was a proper desi wedding and it was good fun.
2. I FINALLY graduated from University😂. Only took me like 5 years, one failed attempt and repeating my third year.
3. Made some great friends from the school I worked at, we bonded over how messed up the school we worked at is.
4. Managed to travel and have such great experiences.
5. Im happy with the fanfics I wrote this year. Still shocked that people actually read and enjoy the stuff I write but Im immensely grateful for all the love and support I get.

You re-sharing your pinned post reminded me that Taylor and Aaron had done a bunch of writing at the very least for Midnights that got scrapped (or possibly pushed back?) and what we got on Midnights...was the subject of your post and Renegade. TTPD Anthology has the same really heavy stuff from her past littered everywhere as well. thanK you aIMee, Cassandra, The Manuscript, The Bolter, etc. all fit that theme that was just so heavily on the past that it could have been revisited works from a time when she didn't want to touch it yet because of what it said.
I think this is really interesting!
(I hope you don't mind me posting this publicly as I don't often do that and also never see my inbox unless I'm on a computer, but it really gave me food for thought.)
Obviously we have no way of actually knowing this, but I always felt like Would've Could've Should've was so important to the narrative of what became Midnights, and then when we found out that it was actually one of the *first* songs she wrote, months before Midnights was even a fleshed-out concept, it kind of reinforced to me that whatever she unleashed in that song kind of opened the floodgates for a whole other facet of her songwriting. (I've said many times that I think WCS is going to turn out to be one of the blueprints of her discography thematically, not unlike All Too Well. I think The Manuscript is going to be another one.)
Which is not to say she didn't write deeply moving, painfully honest songs before obviously, but I think the honesty to which she delved into that experience (and trauma) really paved the way to broach the themes on Midnights, and most certainly to the raw emotion we got on TTPD. I wouldn't be surprised if WCS maybe even informed the concept of the "sleepless nights" of Midnights, because a song like that could certainly make you think of other experiences that have marked you.
Obviously we have no way of knowing this, but there are kernels of WCS in sooooooo much of her work, and at least musically, it feels like opening up about that experience has helped her open up about others. It's glaringly obvious on TTPD too (Smallest Man, Clara Bow, The Manuscript, pretty much all of The Anthology in some way etc.) and it's even been fascinating seeing how she's used it on tour (e.g. mashed up with ivy) and how she's also reframed her existing songs in other ways. Much like how the rerecordings seemed to have also unlocked some new perspectives and feelings, I think the Midnights/3am/Vault music has unearthed a new level of understanding of herself and her music.
The Anthology really does feel like a sequel of sorts to the 3am tracks on Midnights to me in many ways. I think I said it in that post that the standard Midnights album might have been the things that kept her up at night, but the 3am tracks felt like the things that kept haunting her when she was awake and the fallout from those experiences. The Anthology feels like those themes finally coming home to roost. Sometimes in clarity, sometimes in anger, sometimes in grief, sometimes even in gratitude.
I don't know if these were concepts she'd been mulling before Midnights (I'm assuming they were actually written after, as she said), but I wouldn't be surprised if she had been mulling the themes/experiences during that time and when she kept writing after Midnights went into production, revisited them as they felt salient to her.
Thanks for this!

Yk with the added context of the Matty-Taylor relationship timeline, I was compelled to go back and reconsider certain songs from her discography and see them differently. Obviously we have The 1, Cardigan, Question..?, Glitch etc but what about the 1989 vault?
I have a strong belief that Taylor re-touches, if not fully edits the vault tracks before the album releases (as evidenced by the punchline lyric on ATW10MV).
Ofc, we don't know for sure, but in Now That We Don't Talk there's that line about the muse "growing his hair long" and Harry hadn't done that till late 2014 (atleast to a noticeable extent) so I felt that maybe that song was written later on.
Anyways, listening to TTPD got me thinking some thoughts. Like Taylor is very deliberate with her word usage on the songs. In Down Bad, the lyric "How dare you say that it's..." is supposed to be auto-filled with the word "over". This instantly made me think of Is It Over Now?
Was "Slut!" about Matty too? I mean if the rumours of a 1975 feature on that song were true, then obviously it has a connection to them? Also, I've always felt it was weird to have that song be about Harry for so many reasons, but whatever.
I mean ofc there's glaring references to Harry on the album, but by now we know that Taylor likes to merge her muses for a single song. She even liked a Tumblr post back in 2015 that related STYLE of all songs to Matty. Not a joke. Twitter recently rediscovered it and went nuts over it.
I feel like many songs we attributed to Harry over the years was just about Matty. I mean it always bothered me how much Taylor seemed to be affected by a 2 month situationship with an 18 year old all the way back in 2012. I mean she never brought up Kennedy or Lautner or Tom like she did with Harry in her later works....now we know that it was most likely Matty.
One part of me believes that So It Goes was also bout him. I mean "you did a number on me" means to mess someone up in a bad way, and I have no idea why she would put that lyric in there otherwise.
Also Ivy and Illicit Affairs were widely regarded to be about the Calvin-Tom-Joe situation...but in retrospect they might've been about Matty. These might sound like mindless rumours to most, but keep in mind that Guilty As Sin and Fresh Out The Slammer exist. Both Ivy and Illicit Affairs were fictional songs, but they expressed her inner feelings (swirled you into all my poems). Again, just theorizing here.
i guess he could be ~swirled~ into a few songs from 1989 tv (anything is possible! we didn't know the full story until the red vault! disclaimer!), but mostly i think what you are picking up on is that... taylor has a pattern in her relationships. and she has stories she tells herself about relationships, or herself, just like we all do, which create songs that share many themes.
like, obviously i don't know taylor, and i could be wrong about anything i write about her lyrics. but while ivy could be about matty (anything is possible!), i think it makes more sense that she has, on a few different occasions, left a dying relationships only after another person she liked came into her orbit. and this isn't even uncommon. lots of people only leave relationships when they have someone in the wings, or they've met someone who makes them realize the grass might be greener.

we're never getting reputation (taylor's version) and here's why:
1. the color-coding
taylor's discography is very obviously and deliberately color-coded, each album strongly associated with a particular color or shade. although there is some overlap (1989's light blue vs midnights' dark blue), the variations are distinct enough to avoid any confusion between them. in that sense, b&w is an extremely inflexible color assignment, on account of not being... well, not a color. b&w is b&w (not to be confused with folklore's grey; monochrome ≠ b&w), there aren't exactly many (or any, as it were) ways to stretch that palette to the extent it'd successfully take on an identity (album) of its own. which i believe blondie is aware of, and on that basis i believe it was a deliberate choice. and why? it's not as though she'd exhausted all of her options. there are colors she has yet to use, as well as different shades, tones, and tints of already used colors that would've been just as viable. why take this extremely particular and inflexible palette and, essentially, risk shifting that association from one album to another? unless she wasn't risking anything.
2. the pre-ttpd announcement period
as is customary for her, in the weeks before the official announcement of ttpd, all of taylor's social medias began taking on a b&w color scheme. the same had happened with purple and speak now (taylor's version), with light blue and 1989 (taylor's version), so on and so forth. a kind of unique mass-hysteria ensued as all signs pointed to reputation (taylor's version.) as it turned out, every last one of us was wrong in that assumption. if reputation (tv) were to drop, she'd have to go the b&w route again—which, for one, would in this case be predictable (we got bamboozled once, no way is it happening again) and that's very much not her style; and for two... there'd be no novelty. doing the same bit twice, really? not her!
3. the themes of reputation
reputation centered two core concepts: joe & falling out of public favor. a "good" thing and a "bad" thing. this would remain true for several years after the fact, yet no longer is—instead having turned into two "bad" things. i would not blame her if she chose not to return to this notably awful period of her life by way of re-recording, especially given the fact that the thing—person—that was once a shining star in all that proverbial darkness simply blends into the void with the way things are now. and while, yes, she had re-recorded songs about her exes, she'd only done so after a long while has passed. not only was this the longest relationship she's ever had and therefore likely uniquely devastating, the breakup itself is also very recent.
4. the contrast and the timing
and continuing the last point, only last year she'd dropped a couple devastating songs about this relationship on midnights, followed by more than a fair share of them on ttpd. doubtless she's still moving on/healing (judging by ttpd); i simply do not see her delving into an album that'd dredge up all those memories of the good times, the better times—not to mention that ttpd and rep are as antithetical to each other as it gets. if she'd recorded lover any earlier and had no ownership of it, for very similar reasons i wouldn't believe she'd re-record that one either.
4. the ttpd logo (NOT!!! my finding!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
now i never put much stock into this when i first saw it, as whoever had found it had taken it to mean "yay reputation (tv) soon!" and i simply did not agree. i actually thought it was a really freaky coincidence. bc, c'mon. let's be serious. however, i did realize it sort of fits remarkably well into my "ttpd is replacing rep because ttpd is reputation (taylor's version) in fewer words."
5. thanK you aIMee
kim? we're talking about kim now? who was maybe relevant around the year 2017? around the release of rep? oh. okay. i'm sure that means nothing
but that's just a theory... a game theory.

if you get this, answer with your top 5 music artists and send it to the last 7 people in your notifications Rose💜
This ask was more difficult then I suppose it's meant to be, because I mainly listen to songs, not artists. A lot of the time, I find one or two songs from the same artist that I really like, and then I have no idea what else they've done, so answering this required some thinking. Thank you @my-rose-tinted-glasses for making me sit down and actually think about what artists I like, and not just what songs I happen to vibe with at the moment!
Spoiler: it's a lot of Korean music, and what makes me come back to an artist is most often their voice.
Isaac Hong I found him through the OST for Strangers From Hell (along with The Rose, The Vane and Yaori) and then rediscovered him when I watched the reality show Super Band. I love his voice and I love the way many of his songs swell and sweep me along. He's done a few more OSTs lately, so if you've watched a lot of kdramas, chances are you've heard his music somewhere.
Give Childhood Memories 내 기억 속의 소년, Close Your Eyes and Ruin a listen!
LeeHi This woman has an absolutely amazing voice and can do widly different songs. She's got a lot of great songs of her own and has done a whole lot of fantastic collabs with various artists as well.
1, 2, 3, 4, FXXK WIT US and Breathe are some of my favourites, but be warmed: Breathe never fails to make me tear up.
Iniko What a voice!!! (Have you noticed a theme yet?) Their voice is otherwordly and all it took was a few seconds of a short clip for me to get goosbumps and be absolutely blown away. Their acapella videos are a treat. Their music is different and powerful and I love it.
Luna, The King's Affirmation and Jericho are definitely recommended!
Woosung and The Rose As mentioned, I first found the indie rock band The Rose through the OST for Strangers from Hell, and then some time later I found the singer Woosung and fell in love with his voice - and then it took me an embarrassing amount of time to realise that Woosung is the singer for The Rose, and his solo songs are what he did to stay active while the rest of the boys did their military service. (Yes, this is the level of research/knowledge I usually have about artists. Virtually none, that is.)
Sorry, Strangers and Wonder are some of my favourite The Rose songs, while Phase Me and Face are some of my favourite Woosung songs! Psst! I have been told that the piano key he's hitting in the Face MV is the G note...
Bibi Once more, as with all of these: The Voice!!! Bibi has a husky voice coupled with a bit of an attitude that I can't help but love! I found her through a show called The Fan (where I also found Car the Garden and Youra) and she keeps delivering!
Long Time Ago, Animal Farm, Vengeance are some of her songs that I think you should check out! The MVs are delighfully bloody, but maybe go for a lyric video if you don't want to see heads roll.
Long list under the cut, because I can't help but cheat:
BTS: the group that first got me into Korean music in 2016, when I'd previously only been interested in Korean movies. They put out so much music I can't keep up and they're possibly the only group where I've listened to enough of their discography to have a favourite album: Wings.
Mamamoo: a group of fantastic ladies who are excellent performers and fantastic singers! They know how to put on a show and how to have fun on stage. They're also challenging Korean stereotypes and norms, which of course gives them extra points in my books.
Jessi: now here's a lady who isn't afraid to speak her mind and who breaks Korean stereotypes for breakfast. She's a girlboss who raps and sings and does both hard-hitting hip hop and emotional ballads.
King Mala: a recent find, but what a find! So many good songs that made me feel like as absolute badass, and the lyrics are great fun and often delightfully kinky.
GSoul: a warm hug and a sigh of relief as you relax. Close your eyes and lean back and give his RnB songs a listen.
Jeff Satur: his music videos with his many different alter egos have given birth to the #jeffcest tag - need I say more? This guy sure has a vision and he seems to be having great fun doing what he's doing and we get to have great fun enjoying the stuff he puts out, so what's not to like?
Ten: now this guy is mainly on the list becuase of his performances, but what performances he puts on!! This guy can dance, and I don't know how many times I've rewatched his Devil performance from Hit The Stage which he did when he'd only just debuted. Apart from his individual songs, he's also part of NCT, so he's part of a whole lot of songs in a variety of different languages.

We got Nightwish's Tuomas Holopainen to rank every single album by the band from worst to best
We asked Nightwish founder Tuomas Holopainen to rank the band's albums from worst to best - and some of his choices surprised us
Tumblr media
From fantastical realms to elaborate filmic sagas and love-letters to Darwinism, the Nightwish discography is rich in intrigue – and low on dullmoments. As its central creator, Tuomas Holopainen is inextricably bound to the sounds, feelings and memories that saturate each of these nine albums.
His life is in this music. But if it came to it, in a castaway situation, which albums would he most (and least) want to be stuck with? It’s a tough call. “They are my children,” he pleads, “how would they feel if they saw the ranking? Wishmaster would be so sad!” Still, he did manage to settle on an order, and here it is...
9. Wishmaster (Spinefarm, 2000)
“It went to No.1 in Finland, but to me Wishmaster is one of those albums that was kind of ‘in-between’. It doesn’t stand out to me on a personal level. There was nothing revolutionary about it after [1998’s] Oceanborn.
It was made in a really good spirit – everybody in the band was happy after the success of Oceanborn – so this was just a natural continuation of that. But it didn’t really introduce anything spectacularly new for me personally. I think that’s my problem with it. If Ihad to pick a favourite song, I think I’d pick Dead Boy’s Poem; lyrically, it’s very much in the essence of Nightwish.”
8. Angels Fall First (Spinefarm, 1997)
“Our debut sounds so innocent because it was done as a demo. It was never supposed to be released, but we sent it to the record label and they said, ‘Let’s put this out!’ It still has my parents’ home address on the booklet.
“When I founded Nightwish in July 1996, I just wanted to do moody acoustic music. Since me and Emppu [Vuorinen, guitars] had a strong metal background, it was a natural transition to do something heavier, but that original acoustic band idea can be heard strongly. We couldn’t find anybody to sing, so I kind of dug a hole and fell into it myself.
"We played Elvenpath years later on the Decades tour, and I can’t understand how Floor was able to keep a straight face singing those lyrics – to her credit, she did! I just remember the kid that I was back then, writing those songs, and I kind of miss that kid, because it was all about Donald Duck and fantasy books and snowmen and things fantastical.
"Nymphomaniac Fantasia? Not my proudest moment. But it was done because there was a young kid who had some, I don’t know… issues, ha ha ha! Love-life gone wrong or something. It was a different time.”
7. Century Child (Spinefarm, 2002)
“After Wishmaster, I seriously considered quitting the band, especially thanks to the departure of the [original] bass player [Sami Vänskä] and my slight burnout. Then I went on a hiking trip in Lapland with Tony Kakko from Sonata Arctica, and he talked me over that.
"We needed a new bass player, and we needed management because until then it was me and Jukka [Nevalainen] the drummer taking care of the business side. So we got management, and we got Marko [Hietala, bassist/ singer until 2021], who was already a big name in Finnish metal – we were all big fans.
"There was a lot of bad stuff happening in the band as well – that’s reflected on the album. Slaying The Dreamer was a way to get rid of all that frustration. Artistically I found film music, Hans Zimmer above all, and that really can be heard on Century Child. But the album didn’t take us much on the next level. Artistically it did, but not commercially.”
6. Dark Passion Play (Nuclear Blast, 2007)
“It was a really easy album to write because all the emotions were there so strongly, after what happened with Tarja [Turunen, original vocalist who was dismissed from the band in 2005], and everything in my personal life. I was about to lose my mental health, and then doing the songs for this album saved it.
"I’m a very private person, but I write about some really personal things, and these people – Anette [Olzon], for this record – are singing it out for the whole world to hear. Ineeded to do a song like The Poet And The Pendulum, where I killed myself in the lyrics; I had to do it for my mental health, and it ended up being a wonderful piece of music.”
5. Imaginaerum (Nuclear Blast, 2011)
“Again, this was a pretty easy album to write – we all had a good time with it. When it comes to songwriting, I’m a morning person. I’ll wake up about six when I’m at home, then a litre of coffee and I’m off. Usually I’m done by two or three o’clock. I write songs upstairs in my little home studio – just a keyboard and a lakeside view. In the studio with the band, the other members and the engineers are more night owls. Also in the tour bus it’s always me up first, making coffee downstairs.
“It was clear from the start that this would end up being a film. We thought, ‘What haven’t we done yet? Let’s do a music video for every song on the album, and then somehow combine them to become this really weird film.’ It’s a very optimistic album. It just puts a big smile on your face.”
4. Once (Nuclear Blast, 2004)
“One of the best times that this band has ever had was 2003- 2004, making the Once album, and the first part of the tour after that. In late 2003 we flew to London to record the orchestras. I rang the studio doorbell and Rick Wakeman opened the door. I think I said, ‘Errr… [makes incoherent starstruck noise] Thanks!’
"We went to the studio, started playing Ghost Love Score and my face melted. Like, ‘I’m next to Wembley, listening to the orchestra playing a song that I wrote, this is really life at its best.’
"Something happened with that album – all the stars were aligned. I remember looking at the album charts and seeing ‘Nightwish, Michael Jackson, Anastasia’ and going ‘Really?!’ I don’t think any of us were quite prepared. You get sucked into this massive world of big tours and worship from the fans, then the money starts to flow in, and it’s easy to lose your perspective. Impulse purchases? I did a round the-world trip on my own, it was wonderful. But money has very little meaning to me."
3. Oceanborn (Spinefarm, 1998)
“Our ambition went through the roof after Angels Fall First, because we all realised that this is actually really fun. I was studying biology, Tarja was studying singing, I think in Germany, Jukka was studying to be a computer engineer, Emppu was working in a carpet factory.
"Music was just a hobby. And then we realised, ‘There’s something going on here, so let’s put all the focus in Nightwish for maybe a few years, and see what happens.’ It was eight hours every day in the rehearsal room, playing the songs and just really feeling it. It was the watershed album for us, it took us to the next level.
"All the guys, we had just gotten out of the army so we all had short hair, we had no idea about the metal scene at all. We were complete countryside hickeys who just happened to like metal music, and we were given this chance to show what we could do with a three-album deal. It shouldn’t have worked on paper, but somehow it did.”
2. Endless Forms Most Beautiful (Nuclear Blast, 2015)
“If Floor hadn’t come along, I think that would have been the end of the band. We got over an ugly divorce once [with Tarja], then again with Anette, then Floor comes along and everything shines bright again. She learned the setlist in 48 hours – when I called her, she was at her sister’s wedding. Even from the first show the fans embraced her. So we took a lot of that good feeling for Endless Forms Most Beautiful [named after a line from Charles Darwin’s On The Origin Of Species].
"We went to Röskö campsite in Finland to record. It’s a four-hectare area by a lake in the middle of nowhere, belonging to the Boy Scouts. We stayed for three months. Every morning we’d rehearse for a few hours, have lunch, go back, rehearse and then spend the evening with each other by a campfire, barbecuing, playing acoustic guitar, singing, going to the sauna and talking about the songs all the time. The Greatest Show On Earth, that’s the Nightwish desert island song. I’m sure we’ll play that at the end of the setlist until forever.
"We recorded Richard Dawkins’ part in Oxford. He’s quite the character. I’m a huge fan, so I was really starstruck. He did his parts beautifully, it was over in about 30 minutes and then he gave us a ride back to central Oxford in his Tesla. And halfway back he asks us, ‘So are you musicians or something?’ Ha ha! So his head’s somewhere… all the time! But he’s a wonderful guy.”
1. Human. :II: Nature. (Nuclear Blast, 2020)
“I immediately knew after Endless Forms Most Beautiful that ‘OK, we have to do more songs about this.’ And so the idea of Human. :II: Nature. was first to have songs about humankind, and then you play the other CD and relax and go into nature. My memories of making the album are of happy times, no conflicts. We returned to Röskö to make it.
"When the pandemic hit, it was like, ‘Should we postpone the release?’ But it was all printed and the advertisements had gone out to the papers. So the record label said, ‘Let’s go with it. Maybe people will have more time to concentrate on it…’
"Noise was a big single, but there’s also something about Shoemaker [named after famed geologist/astronomer Eugene Shoemaker]. It’s on the artsy side, but not in a pretentious way.
"Realising what evolution is… it’s about realising our mortality, at least for me. And it’s made all the difference. When I kind of realised that this is very likely the only life we’re gonna have – it’s only after that that I started hugging my dad. I never hugged my dad before that. I’ve just felt much more liberated and in the light ever since.”

high infidelity | twenty three
How’d we end up on the floor anyway? You say, your roommates cheap ass screw top rose, that’s how. We pulled up to Noah’s house and my eyes widened at the sight of it, it was beautiful. I didn’t want to creep him out and ask him if he moved but this definitely wasn’t the house he had during his twitch days. It was a bungalow hidden between a few palm trees and various plants, it had a perfect Californian vibe to it. He led me inside and my breath was taken away again, it had floor to ceiling windows that had a perfect view of the LA skyline, and open concept where his kitchen, living room and dining room blended together. I looked outside and saw he had a small in ground pool as well with an egg chair beside it, I always wanted one of those.
“Well, what do you think?” “Noah this is…wow.” I was speechless. Noah passed me a glass of wine as I admired his home like it was the Sistine chapel. “I wouldn’t give this up for Vancouver.” “Ah, it’s just a house.” He said taking a sip of his wine, “By the way, this is Jesse’s wine, don’t say anything to him.” I nodded as I brought the glass to my lips, realizing it was a sweet rose. My eyes wondered around more, I saw his vinyl collection and I immediately went over to it. I shook my head in amazement, he really knew how to keep me guessing. He had Taylor Swift’s entire discography, along with her re-records, all organized by release date. I really adored his taste in music since he didn’t stick to one genre, there was a mixture of everything in his collection.
“Big Taylor Swift fan?” I joked as I grabbed Midnights and put it in his record player. Lavender haze filled the room as I walked over back over to him. “She’s been such a huge inspiration for me. Evermore got me through so much during the pandemic.” His voice trailed off, as if there was something that happened to him during that time. I didn’t want to dig, I knew if he wanted to say something he would. “Good choice, by the way. This is my favourite opening track for an album, ever.”
“It’s so good.” I agreed as I took another sip of my wine. My eyes followed Noah as he pulled out his iPad and started typing away on it. I watched him intently, his fingers moving so swiftly, his eyes full of concentration…he did everything with such intensity, it turned me on with no effort. “I ordered from my favourite restaurant, it should be here in half an hour. I figured since it was so late we could just spend time here and I’ll take you out tomorrow.” “That sounds great.” I replied. Noah walked around the kitchen island towards me, he offered me his hand and guided me to the couch. Everything felt so romantic, he had his lighting set to a soft glow, had candles burning and put his faux fireplace on. I was curious as to what his intentions were.
“Can I ask you something?” I said now that I had a little bit of liquid courage in my system. “Why are you so hesitant to have sex with me?”
Noah sighed and put his wine glass down. “El, it’s not like I don’t want to, trust me I do. Sex has become something I take seriously now. During the pandemic when my depression hit an all time low, I was drinking so much and I used to have these girls I’d call, they’d drop everything and come over so I could fuck them to forget my problems. I had no attachment to them whatsoever and I would kick them out the second I got what I wanted. All of it left me so empty and I stopped having sex all together for a long time. Then I met you and I knew I wanted to be with you in that way, my anxiety made me feel like my old habits would come back.” He paused and I could see tears flickering in his eyes. “I just love you so much sometimes it scares me, I want to do everything right with you.”
“I love you too Noah and I know you well enough to know you wouldn’t treat me like that. I’m sorry that you went through such a dark time. I’m also sorry that I was selfish and thought maybe it was something I did.”
“You’ve done nothing wrong at all. You’ve been so patient and kind with me, I don’t deserve you.” Noah replied with a sad tone, some days this mans emotions went deeper than I expected but if anything it made me love him more. He wasn’t ashamed to show them.
I cupped his face in my hand, catching the tear that escaped him. “I think you got it wrong, I don’t deserve you.”
He softly smiled at me as he poured me another glass of wine. The more the night went on the more bottles of wine we emptied. We ended up on the floor of his living room after dinner, listening to records, laughing about nothing and enjoying each other’s company.
“You’re the greatest thing to ever happen to me you know that?” Noah drunkenly whispered as he crept up to me. I could taste his breath on me, it was sweet and strong. I watched him as his eyes focused on my lips, licking his own in the process. My heart was beating so fast and my eyes started to lose focus, I felt like maybe this was it. His lips crashed into me and I held onto the collar of his shirt as the kiss deepened. He pulled me onto his lap as he rested his back on the couch. He ripped my shirt off me and trailed kisses all over my shoulder, my collarbone and bit gently on the top of my breasts. I felt Noah growing harder under me as he took my bra off and let it cascade down my arms, completely exposing me.
“So, so fucking beautiful.” He exhaled as he caressed my breasts, tracing circles around my nipples. I was in complete bliss, every single one of his touches sent fireworks off in my mind.
Noah held the back of my neck as he gently laid me down on the carpet, he disappeared for a moment but suddenly he was towering over me. My breath hitched when I felt something cold pooling on my stomach between Noah’s lips. He had an ice cube in his mouth and was trailing it all over my body, making me squirm. When it finally melted, he undid my pants and slid them down my legs, along with my underwear. Noah’s tongue hit my clit, it was frozen solid as he flicked it back and forth. I knew I was done for as my toes curled into the carpet.
“You respond so well to my touch, you have no idea how fucking hard that makes me.” He looked up at me, grinning like a devil between my hips. He spat onto his fingers before sliding them in me, making me arch my back. His hand pressed on my lower abdomen as he hooked his fingers inside me, throwing me over the edge. “Come for me, I know you want to.”
“Noah - “ I couldn’t hold it, I screamed out in ecstasy as my body shuddered from my orgasm. He left me panting and seeing stars for a brief moment, but he didn’t give me much time to recover. He just looked at me like he was about to show me no mercy.
“I can’t wait anymore baby…I need to fuck you now.”
“I’m all yours.” I breathed out. I helped him get undressed as he closed his eyes before making a home between my thighs. He leaned over and gently kissed me, twitching as I stroked his throbbing cock. He deeply sighed with relief as soon as he was fully in me, his eyes glazed with pleasure as I wrapped around him. He started off slowly but picked up the pace rapidly, gripping into my hips to get deeper in me. Our bodies glistened with sweat, our sighs were so heavy and my body was shivering as my orgasm flooded me countless times.
“Jesus fucking Christ, you feel so good baby.” he moaned into my ear as he clasped my wrists over my head. “I don’t think I can hold on anymore.”
“Then don’t.” I whispered, his face was mere inches from mine as his hair brushed my face. He gently nodded and started to thrust into me harder, making me gasp each time. Our eyes stayed locked before he couldn’t focus anymore. Noah crashed his forehead into my shoulder as he spilled into me, letting out the most ungodly moan in my ear. My god that was worth the wait.

so here’s the thing... if you asked me to rank Taylor’s albums, Lover would end up the middle of the pack. and my reasoning has always been it’s too long, it’s highs are really high but there’s so much filler they get lost. I stand by that, but I also completely don’t. That said, recently I’ve realized, it’s also the album I turn to the most...
Lover is complex and I’ve said in conversation with a friend ( @septembersghost ) that what makes it so compelling is that it is the most contextual of Taylor’s discography. It requires all 6 of its predecessors to be fully understood. It’s got lyrical reference to RED, clear sonic references to Fearless (Paper Rings) and debut (Soon You’ll Get Better). And you could make a case for thematic references to all 6 albums. Without understanding the whimsy and enchantment of Speak Now, can you understand the real intention behind “I like shiny things, but I’d marry you with paper rings”?
I said this to Jaime @cages-boxes-hunters-foxes in a conversation on her blog the other day, but it is also a glimpse and predictor of the Indie sound and vibe she would lean into on folkmore. We have bringing back fictional stories (which she hadn’t done openly since YBWM), exploring different productions and sounds, bringing back a country vibe (which would be very prominent on evermore), and centering plain and uncomplicated lyrical storytelling while letting the complexities of the production and sonic quality bring it to life in a way that she had never previously mastered.... which I would say is quite Indie in style...
But all that aside, the actual reason Lover is the album I turn to most is because its the album that has the songs I feel most understood by in my darkest moments (The Archer, Afterglow) and the songs I feel most understood by in my happiest moments (ME!, Daylight, Lover). The reason I said I still stand by my previous conceptions of Lover as too long and full of filler is related to that conversation with Jess I mentioned above. Lover is so contextualized with Taylor’s past work that every song will correlate to sounds or themes (or both) from at least one previous album. If a song from Lover feels like filler to you, chances are it correlates to albums or songs that aren’t your vibe. ITHK for me feels like it says nothing.... In exactly the same way AYHTDWS does. London Boy is one a lot of people feel is filler, but to me it’s VITAL! It also really correlates to the whole motif of London/NY that she’s been driving home since RED which has come to mean a fuck ton to me and might mean less to others.
So Lover is full of filler... but what you will hear as filler depends on your experience with the rest of her discography. The anti-ME! people will likely not jive with the other lighter more fun playful pop songs like Stay Stay Stay or Shake it Off or little Speak Now (and yes, I count her in this because she is a part of this story!!!). To me, ME! is one of the most incredible softest and beautiful songs Taylor’s ever released. I am still not a big fan of INTHAF, even though I like it more now than I used to. I hate the fact that we get the wedding at the end... anyway, KOMH is also not my favorite song (though I like it more than I used to).
Lover is however, incredibly complex.... and back to the fact that it’s the album I feel most understood by in both my dark and my light..... It’s the most holistic of Taylor’s albums. Lover isn’t just one thing, it’s all the things. Taylor said it was a love letter to love itself, and you can hear that in all of its complexities. Lover is every emotion rolled into one. It’s every emotion at the same time!
Those of you who love to hate it are either too immature to appreciate its depth and variety or too pretentious to appreciate its depth and variety or both. I feel sad for you and I hope you grow up... because damn Lover is beautiful.

Songs & Characters: Pedro Pascal
Album: Blue Lips     Artist: Tove Lo
Tumblr media
So I did this with all the Florence + The Machine albums and now I’m doing it with Tove Lo’s discography because why not. Basically what I’m doing is listening to the whole album and picking which sing reminds me of which Pedro character and the specific lyrics that go with it.
Some of the lyrics below are sexual/explicit keep reading at your own discretion.
disco tits /  Oberyn Martell
Live right now, peakin' on top / So wild now, I'm high as fuck / Don't look down / My mind, you can relax / I know how to dial it back / Not this time
You think I'm drunk now, but I am not / You're so pretty, come roll with me / I'm 'bout to get down, I'm high as fuck / I'm no chemist, but it's good shit
I'm sweatin' from head to toe / I'm wet through all my clothes / I'm fully charged, nipples are hard / Ready to go (oh, oh) / I'm sweatin' from head to toe / I'm wet through all my clothes (yeah) / I'm fully charged, nipples are hard / Ready to go
shedontknowbutsheknows - Dave York
Hanging by the bar at sunrise / With our bodies talking / Hooked up last week, had a good time / So I regret nothing / I see her come close, ooh / I wonder what you told her to make her stay
Don't even bother with your lies / Won't let you see her when she cries / Go on, unhappy in the night
shivering gold - Marcus Pike
A minute of truth time, talkin' 'bout stuff
Keep saying I'm danger, but thinking I'm love
I'm out on the dance floor, drinking my tears
Acting all cliché, and facing my fears
I feel that thing that jolts me, fucks with me good / Shivering gold / I shiver in gold / Wild, real / Got things like moon rocks rolled up in love / Shivering gold
I shiver in gold
Kissing it better, a physical face
Taking your body, I sit on your face
I see you smiling, covered in me
Moving too fast now, but fuck it, we're free
don’t ask don’t tell - Javier Peña
I'm curious to know who you are
Know what turns you on, turns you off
Know we're not kids anymore
Know we've both been here before
These butterflies scare me to death
Feel them beating out of my chest
Make me come, come so alive
And go with your moves through the night
And baby, don't ask and then don't tell / Already know you're fucked up / And it's cool with me / My past and don't ask and don't tell / No need to share too much / Come on, let it be
stranger - Francisco ‘Catfish’ Morales
You're my stranger in the dark / I am lonely, lonely heart / Waiting for someone to take me home / You're my stranger in the dark / I am lonely, vagabond / Hold me down, want you to bring me home
Let's begin, love making you beg for the win
I'm the prize you get if you do everything I say
Get you high, I get you high
I wanna be what you want me to be
I'd go anywhere, no rules, I don't care
Oh, oh just take me home, oh
So you're my last hope and, and I don't care what you do
Leave my heart open, I'm gonna leave it for you
You can walk on it, I wanna hurt, feeling used
Take the edge off it, just take the edge off it
romantics - Dieter Bravo
We could be romantics for life / Go wild with our scars unhealed / Ooh, ooh / We could be romantics for life / Like drugs make us feel unreal
They talk a lot, don't they?
'Bout your life
They talk a lot, don't they?
Why? Are you tired?
It's none of their business who we love
Drinking, destructive, kind, fill me up
Holding me down in my seat
Tell me, I know what you need
I know your head makes you lie, oh
cycles - Ezra
What's your name?
I can tell you a story before we get into the game
We fall head over heels overnight
See my face in your future
I'm in your future, in your nights, hmmm
I'm in a cycle / Don't make me hate you / Just 'cause I talk about the things I've done before you / I'm in a cycle / Swear this is different / Don't wanna end it, if you leave then I keep spinnin'
It's so romantic in a way / Why don't you catch me when I sway? / 'Cause when my heart falls out of place / I know (oh, oh, oh)
struggle - Max Phillips
So you're deep like the ocean / And got your bottles of potion / I believe in karma / Set the waves into motion
Cold, cold, cold, cold hands over me / Fuck, fuck, fuck some sense into me / Gold for loneliness, I will pay / Fuck, fuck some sense into me
The struggle is real
When you don't tell me how you feel 'bout this love
I've got my way with words
Don't believe me
Pretend like I don't hurt
I don't, I don't, I don't
I've got my way with pain
Don't believe me
I numb myself to blame
I don't, I don't, I don't
9th of october - Joel Miller
We never had coffee table books or dinner parties / We always had hazy nights and sex, cliché's in Paris / Don't disturb on the top floor / Getting high by the window / In bed with your eyes looked into mine / How perfect was it?
9th of October, I always remember / No bad things had happened then / Honestly, you never thought you'd fall for me / But somehow you got pulled in / Livin' so fast, makin' memories last / 'Til our hearts couldn't hold no more / Hear you explodin' while I am implodin' / Now, how did we let this go?
We never wanted
A normal kind of love
9th of October, I always remember
9th of October, I always remember those big words, I said them first
9th of October, I always remember
9th of October, can't think of it sober 'cause all of it fuckin' hurts
bad days - Maxwell Lord
Why cut so deep every word that we speak? / Triggers, shit we never thought / I still remember all the good times / If not, I'll recreate 'em all
If it was easy, I'd forget about you, baby
But I never really understood
How people move on from a heart to love another
Oh, if I could, I would
If it was easy, I'd forget about you, baby
But I never really understood
How people move on from a heart to love another
Oh, if I could, I would
Yeah, I try
But we're in the same crowd
Always at the same scene
So I don't know how
I'm supposed to act fine
When we used to be burning love
That died
Colder than ice
Why am I surprised?
But I guess that's how
I guess that's how we do it now
hey you got drugs - Pero Tovar
Ten years of highs just for fun
Not a height 'til I'm caught
Pain from the past like a small piece of glass in my heart
And this should be the time of my life
You fucking made it your deal, your deal
And I keep dancin' away 'cause it's all fun and games 'til it's real
We don't wanna go home
(Better dance for us)
You're fucked but, oh, you're so fun
(How you holding on?)
I don't know tomorrow
(If it comes or not)
But I promise for life you can brag 'bout tonight
You won't save the night for me
You won't save the night for me
You won't save the night for me
And I ain't never gonna go home

Tom’s Top Ten | ALBUMS 2022
Ok, 2022 has been a wild ride for music, there have been some absolutely incredible releases across the board, probably the hardest time I've had getting the definitive top ten since 2016 in terms of there just being so much good stuff! Also been something of a wild ride for this blog, I broke a thousand followers (and thank you all so much 🥰) and started getting a lot more asks from you guys than I used to have, which has been very cool — but anyway, let’s get into what you’re really here for: the music! Without further ado, here are my personal Top Ten Albums of 2022!
10. Harder Than It Looks by Simple Plan
Tumblr media
This is one of my favourite start-to finish releases from Simple Plan in a long time; their past few albums I was meh on, but this one worked for me - the singles The Antidote and Ruin My Life were absolute bangers that both made my Wrapped, super cool for them to be working and touring with Sum 41 after all this time, an absolute solid record from SP here.
Favourite song: Ruin My Life (feat. Deryck Whibley)
9. Crisis Of Faith by Billy Talent
Tumblr media
This one was a long-time coming; with a fairly sparse distribution of singles over the lockdown years it feels like the wind got knocked out of the sails in the build-up to this album, the album itself didn't disappoint. While I don't think it's as good as Afraid Of Heights was, it was certainly a very solid output with some incredible catchy songs.
Favourite song: Hanging Out With All The Wrong People
8. That Ain’t It by Gold Steps
Tumblr media
Contrary to the album's name, this one very much was "it." Now various sources went back and forth over whether this was an album or EP, but y'know what, it's got enough songs and they're all fucking BANGERS! I vaguely knew of these guys before this year because they'd toured with Settle Your Scores, but I'm so glad I started paying more attention to them this year because this record was great.
Favourite song: Love Song
7. Distance Or Decay by In Her Own Words
Tumblr media
Had never heard of these guys until I saw the video for their song with Derek from State Champs, and from there I was hooked. I'm definitely glad I found these guys during the run-up to this album, because the album itself is stellar. It earned itself several repeat listens from me this year.
Favourite song: Raining In Toronto (feat. Jonathan Vigil)
6. I Went To Hell And Back by As It Is
Tumblr media
Rarely do As It Is release an album that does't end up on this list and with IWTHAB they'd done it again! A bit more experimental than their previous work, but stacked to the rafters with banger after banger, definitely a great one to listen to during a frustrating time early on in the year.
Favourite songs: I Miss 2003
5. Luv Sux by Avril Lavigne
Tumblr media
I am honestly quite surprised by how much I liked Avril's new album, but from the moment Bite Me was released I had a strong incling it was gonna end up on this list - a return to early 00s' guitar driven sound is present throughout and her voice is still as great as it ever was.
Favourite song: Bite Me
4. Planet Zero by Shinedown
Tumblr media
Shinedown!!! This was definitely the year of my Shinedown awakening, after previously only really knowing 'Enemies' and 'Unity' by them, I saw them at Download Festival and realised I had been sleeping on them before now. Since then I have been listening hard to their entire discography, all the way up to this year's release, Planet Zero, which was phenomenal! And it got released on my birthday, so that's an added bonus!
Favourite song: The Saints Of Violence And Innuendo
3. f.e.a.r. (fuck everything and run) by Stand Atlantic
Tumblr media
The vibes of this album are IMMACULATE. While I've liked StAts previous albums a lot, it feels like in this one they have really hit their stride and found their sound. Bonnie's voice is great, the features are great, it's got such a fun atmosphere throughout the whole thing. Definitely Stand Atlantic's best work yet.
Favourite song: molotov (ok)
2. Upright Animals by Dragged Under
Tumblr media
Last time I had Dragged Under on a top ten albums list they just snuck in at the ninth or tenth spot. With the last album I liked it well enough but I wasn't blown away by it. This album? I was BLOWN AWAY by it. Similar to StAt, it feels like they really found their sound in this one, I had this on a damn-near constant repeat after it came out, there's not a single skip on the album, every single song is just top notch. There's still a good variety keeping the balance between the more pop-punk stuff and the heavier stuff, but this time they don't feel like they 'kinda sound like ADTR' - this time they feel like they are definitively Dragged Under. This whole album was banger.
Favourite song: Long Live The King
Ok so now I’m gonna pull a WatchMojo and throw out some Honourable Mentions; those go to: Suckerpunch by Maggie Lindemann, Baku’s Revenge by Magnolia Park, Imposter Syndrome by Action/Adventure and Run by Future Palace
So now, to reveal which album made the number one spot 🥁🥁🥁
My ALBUM OF THE YEAR for 2022 is…
Tumblr media
1. Kings Of The New Age by State Champs 👑👑👑
I honesty had a really tough time figuring out what order these final four were gonna go in, but as I was putting them into this list it became clear there really couldn't be any other choice for AOTY this year. After a, not bad, but not stand-out release in Living Proof, KOTNA brought the Champs back with a Bang! You know what I wanted to do the first time I finished listening to this record? Listen to it again! I will say the one thing that I thought could've been better on this was more integration with the featured guests in the songs, but the guest spots themselves are all really good! Especially Ben Barlow's and Four Year Strong's. As the guys themselves say, they are 'here to stay' and I for one am glad. This era of State Champs is glorious and I cannot wait for what's next, because it really does seem like it's all uphill from here.
And there you have it! Those are my Top Ten Albums of the 2022!

Patricia Taxxon Album Tier List
Tumblr media
Here is my defininitive "that's like, just my opinion, man." tier list of Patricia Taxxon's discography, despite what she's said I found a lot of her pre-little spoon stuff interesting and I was noticing a lot of albums seemed related to each other, I can tell why she's annoyed Punk is so highly rated, she's done a lot of interesting and good plunderphonics albums that I think independently make good thematic points. I bullied Aeroplane and Xanthan Gum a lot on this list, moving them around between A, B and C as I changed my mind so I gave them a couple more listens to be sure. TECHDOG felt like such a bulwark, a lot of times when I was rating these I was thinking "It's good, but is it better than TECHDOG?"
Honestly I had a lot of weird feelings as I dug deeper into this, I have a weird anti-parasocial relationship with artists I like, any time I rated one of her older works higher than something more recent I felt a tinge of guilt as I imagined her getting offended at me for it. A lot of her older stuff is very somber and painful in a specific way I can empathize with and some of what Taxxon has said about making art really shines through her experiences with these albums. I don't want to say I feel closer to her or that I know her because, well as I said earlier, but it was exciting and fun to get to connect the dots.
My rating system obviously got a little unhinged so I guess I'll explain it if anyone actually gives a shit im not an art critic or something im just an unemployed house cat who loves music:
Not My Thing But Not Bad Per Se: Albums that fall into a genre I find too "out there" to understand or approach with "I dislike how this sounds but can understand that someone out there would really enjoy this, it's just not me" this is pretty much entirely all of her Drone stuff, I'm a big fan of Drone Metal but when it comes to pure Drone at best it's a bit boring and at worst it hurts my ears and brain in a way I don't enjoy.
D: Albums I actively disliked, I wanted to give these a fair shake but the idea of listening through them again just to be sure put a bad taste in my mouth. As part of this I also watched Arbuckle and the video essay The Killer was scored for, and I didn't really enjoy The Killer and associated it with parts of HBomberGuy's video that I intensely disliked. The only good thing I can say about it is that it's a Vsauce type beat. Trickle Down is a slightly more than okay album that shoots itself in the foot twice. I have a feeling both of these vibes for these albums could be intentional but that would require assuming the thought process of two youtubers I've never met before.
C: Okay, inoffensive, if I passed you the aux capable and you started playing these I wouldn't really feel one way or the other, the strongest feeling I get from these albums is "I don't get it" towards the end of the spectrum and "I could imagine shopping at a forever 21 to this music" at the start of it. I did not play Soul Waste as part of rating its score, sorry.
B: Pretty nice, I don't know if I could "jam" to it but I like the ideas these albums present and a lot of them I consider okay with two or three really good tracks, basically the antithesis of what I think about Trickle Down, I could see a lot of these being someone else's S-tiers
A: Very good, albums I will seek out and listen to in the future on a regular basis, albums that make me bob my head and say "fuck yeah I love this part!"
A+: Closer to an "honorable mentions" section of albums I think are amazing but fall just short of S tier for certain reasons, I think Pix and Bit is a very definitive PT album that showcases her style well, listening to all of these brought me a lot of joy.
As Good As Sex: The reason why Inhumane isn't in S tier is because I might have enjoyed it a little too much. It was an amazing sensory and psychological experience for me, but the album is also older and comes off as depressed and insecure in a raw way, I feel like if this album was a girl I'd think about flirting with it and asking it out but I know that she's not really in a good place right now to enter a serious relationship and doesn't take compliments well, but deep down, I still love her. I enjoyed spending time with her a lot.
S: Basically an A that I could feel on a deeper level and understand its themes, something more than just a vibe and get a full, satisfying understanding of. Stuff I could personally sympathize with or brought back certain feelings or memories all the while I was having a good time. I think part of why I said my B tier could be someone else's S tier is that I felt this way about Sir Pentagon but didn't think it was as good in other regards.
I don't have much to say about my Top 3 that isn't already obvious if you've listened to those albums. I'm an autistic transgender kitty cat that has struggled and failed in both art and relationships and my fucked up brain makes me call people I love nicknames that make people feel icky and I have gross autistic kinky kitty cat sex and that's fun but its also probably partially due to a lot of private and bleak circumstances of my life I don't want to talk about.
I think if you want to Get Into Patricia Taxxon I wouldn't recommend going down the list here from best to worst, I'd say start with Doremon and Pix & Bit, definetly Agnes and Hilda if you have the time, it gives you a good spread of her style if you don't have an entire day to chug TECHDOG 1-7, and unless you have a taste for outsider art or okayish bedroom pop-y vaporwavey indie stuff listen to her own words and don't pay her discography that came out before Little Spoon much mind, but I personally enjoyed a lot of it and it has a sound she doesn't really have anymore in her more polished stuff.
