The Barbie movie: The Ken's need to find who they are outside of pursuing Barbies, a clear allegory for how real life men should not define themselves by trying to attract a partner and building their personality around that, something that would be healthier and better for them overall
Misogynists: barbie movie is so anti-men :(( how could they do this :((((

Whilst watching the Barbie movie with my friends I started to make some sympathetic noises at the part where Ken brings patriarchy to Barbie Land and overthrows everything and starts going all frat bro on Barbie and she still turns him down.
My friends chastised me and said heās literally brought the most toxic male behaviours to Barbie land and you feel sorry for him?
And Iām like, well yeah.
Sure heās being the worst, doesnāt know how to take a hint, and heās ruined everything but I did feel bad for him. Because male or female I think itās safe to say weāve all felt unseen and unrecognised and though he went about it all wrong, going your whole life with the words āsheās everything and heās just Kenā following you about would make you do some shitty things too so that you could be more than someoneās āandā
Honestly, the movie is amazing at showing what a double edged sword both a world of alpha patriarchy can be as well as what a hyper-feminine society can be.

Klaus - grab the tissues I need to go cry now!
SPOILERS AHEAD!
So as you all know, the Christmas season begins in 7 days and Netflix is all ready blowing out all new Xmas movies and this includes the new animated film Klaus. Before we begin letās take one moment to appreciate the beautiful animation of this movie, like seriously why are so many movies CGI today! I would happily watch all new movies in this animation style. Ok, now that Iāve gushed over the most important aspect I can begin gushing over everything else (mostly). Now the plot is simple and elegant. Young Jesper, son of the CEO of the World Postal Service or something like that, is badly spoilt and his father decides to teach him a lesson by sending him to be the postman for a small snowy island town. If he can send 6000 letters by the end of the year he can return home to his white privileged life. But the residents are in an all out feud and therefore have no use for mail. One childās sad drawing is sent as a letter, delivered to the woodsman Klaus whoās pretty crafty may I just add. Together, Klaus and Jesper form an unlikely bond and begin delivering toys to all the children who send letters. Now the feud of the towns people really pissed me off through the entire film. Why? Because like many things in the cinematic industry today, it reflects us as people. The two clans of the town have been at war since the dawn of time and the only reason they continue to fight is because they are ārespecting their heritageā. In actuality, they are doing this solely because it is how they were raised and what is expected of them. Personally, my family are not very accepting of things and as such people expect the same from me. But Iām not like them, I choose not to behave that way because I want to be better and change things. And thatās what the children do! They begin to treat each other nicely and do nice things for everyone in town no matter what clan, in the beginning itās in the hope for new toys from Klaus but as th movie continues they seem to do it more for themselves. The parents soon follow suit and the town becomes a much better place. I hope if people take anything away from this film, itās that it shouldnāt matter who you are or what your heritage is. It is worth being kind and giving people a chance! Another thing I love is how when the children realise they cannot write and send letters to Jesper and Klaus, they return to school and remind the towns teacher Alva why she wanted to become a teacher to help kids develop and become better people and watching the light return to her is very moving. The ferryman provides comedic relief through the movie always provoking and annoying Jesper. The only part of the film that is fuzzy to me is Margu and the Sami people. Margu comes from an even smaller Icelandic type community and continuously follows Jesper, acting as a friend who he confides in despite not understanding one anotherās languages well. When Klaus and Jesper give Margu a present it ignites something in the both of them that makes them want to make Christmas special for the towns peoples. Soon the Sami people join Klaus in his workshop, making toys and acting as what we can only assume are his elves. Now my absolutely favourite thing in this movie, is the relationship between Klaus and Jesper. Actually, no because guess what the creators ruined it! I went into this film fully expecting a relationship between a daddy-bear Santa and a twinky mailman and after A WHOLE HOUR of homoerotic bonding only for Alva to swoop in and wreck it! Her and Jesper end up together, marrying and having two children while Klaus who obviously shared a spark with him, DIES! Of course, he doesnāt die just becomes a spirit Iām guessing just like his dead wife (yes, I know donāt get mad that Iām shipping two Hetero males) and isnāt it cool that he comes back once a year and stuff for Christmas. Wow! Very magical but still very disappointing. My theory is this is some prequel to the life of Santa Claus from Rise of the Guardians, another masterpiece (if you donāt know the film go watch it now you wonāt regret it).
To conclude, I loved the film despite not giving me the gay Christmas couple Iāve been dying for. Itās sweet, itās funny, itās mind opening and thoughtful. I mean how did someone create a movie that has a great plot line and runs smoothly in a 1 hour and 30 minute period then a movie that nears almost 3 hours which makes absolutely no sense!!!! Sorry for that. Now I must go as I have an array of Netflix original Xmas movies to watch! š
