Mary Poppins is the Doctor
It occurred to me this morning that Mary Poppins is the Doctor, probably his 13th incarnation. I plan to do a full exposé on this later (with pix and video support), but here's just a quick sketch of the evidence: Firstly there's her TARDIS. What? You don't remember her TARDIS? She pulls the coatrack out of it. You know, the one the Fourth Doctor had in the console room and may have stolen from UNIT. Plus she flies away in it at the end (the TARDIS, not the coatrack, silly). Just like the Eleventh Doctor flies his TARDIS through space with the doors open and the environment extended to the exterior. Only of course she's fixed the Chameleon Circuit, so it looks like a carpetbag. Then there's her fashion sense. A hat like the Fifth and Seventh Doctors. An umbrella like the Seventh (with the parrot replacing the question mark). A scarf like the Fourth, and of course a bow tie like the Eleventh, because bow ties are cool. There's her fondness for anthropomorphized penguins, like the Sixth Doctor with Frobisher. There's her comfort in using apparently solid two-dimensional portals to enter other dimensions (like the Fourth Doctor in Warrior's Gate), her comfort in fictional dimensions (like the Second Doctor in The Mind Robber and the Seventh in Head Games), and her comfort in situations involving gravity distortions (like the Eleventh Doctor in Flesh and Stone/The Time of Angels). There's the fact that while not a medical Doctor, she still acts as a "Doctor", using a spoonful of sugar to help the metaphorical medicine go down. Then there's her ability to clean a room, probably using advanced technology, (like the Eleventh Doctor cleans Craig's flat). There's her ability to care deeply about her companions in a totally platonic way while they're madly in love with her. There's the way she always shows up just where and when she's needed, especially for children. And of course she's many steps ahead of the people around her. Let me know what I've overlooked. p.s. Google "Is Mary Poppins the Doctor" for some extra-textual evidence as well. Apparently I'm not the first to realize this. p.p.s. Practically perfect people never permit localized time disturbances to muddle their thinking.
