WHAT’S A SKIN BARRIER?
A skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin, which defends your skin from harmful environmental toxins and pathogens. It also prevents the water in your body from evaporating and leaving you dehydrated. It consists of tough skin cells called corneocytes that are bound together by mortar-like lipids. Inside the skin cells, you’ll find keratin and natural moisturizers. The lipid layer contains cholesterol, fatty acids and ceramides.
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF A DAMAGED SKIN BARRIER?
Inflammation.
Dark spots and hyperpigmentation.
Rough and uneven texture.
Tightness and flaking/peeling.
Dull and dehydrated skin.

HOW TO ACTUALLY FIX MY SKIN BARRIER?
Simplify your skincare routine and cut down on exfoliating acids and actives. Over exfoliating can cause breakouts, inflammation and loss of hydration. Instead, look for moisturizers that have skin barrier ingredients like the ones listed below in this post.
Just like over exfoliating, over cleansing can also ravage your skin barrier. To prevent this, start using gentle cleansers (unless you have a very oily skin) which is free from AHAs and BHAs. Remember to cleanse your face with lukewarm water and don’t apply harsh active ingredients that will dry the skin out.
REMEMBER TO APPLY SUNSCREEN !!!
DO NOT scrub or pick at dry, irritated skin. I know it can be tempting to pick at your acne and pop pimples but squeezing can push bacteria back and deeper into the skin, which in the long run will cause more swelling and redness.

DO NOT delete social media !!
If your phone is taking over your life, who’s the real culprit? Exactly. Social media is not bad per se, the problem comes in when the content that you surround yourself with is toxic and unhealthy. Use your phone and social media for motivation, productivity, inspiration… Mindlessly scrolling is the real problem, not social media.
Don’t you have something better to do?
Being on our phones and constantly scrolling mindlessly through social media gives us dopamine and makes us addicted to it. But the thing is, phones aren’t the only thing that can give you dopamine. Explore and experiment life to see what can give you dopamine. For example, I love reading and when I’m doing it I never think of going on my phone because doing something that I love already gives me the dopamine that I seek.
Discipline is key.
This is kind of obvious since discipline is the solution to most of these issues but you actually need to learn how to have discipline. Change your mindset to one that understands that getting used to comfort will only bring weakness in the long run whilst getting out of your comfort zone will build strength. Start by choosing to do something that will be better for you in the long run even if it’s hard than settling for brief happiness just because it’s easier.
Start by not going on your phone first thing in the morning.
Going on your phone first thing in the morning will pretty much guarantee that you’ll be glued to it the rest of the day because the first dopamine hit that you get in the day is what you will continue to look for throughout the day. Get an alarm clock or just leave your phone in another room (e.g. your bathroom) throughout the night so when the alarm goes off in the morning you’ll be forced to get out of bed and not crawl back in it with your phone.
Change your phone from color to black and white.
Accesibility > display & text size. If the only colors you see on your phone are black and white it’s just not going to hit the same, you’re not going the get the same dopamine hit and you’re not going to want to mindlessly scroll because it’s not giving your brain that reward and that satisfaction that you would usually get, which is what unconsciously keeps us coming back.

I. YOU CAN’T NATURALLY MATCH WITH EVERYONE
First things first: You can’t be friends with everyone. apart from the obvious “a friend to all is a friend to none”, it’s quite unrealistic to expect everyone to like you, and that’s okay! You just have to acknowledge that you aren’t meant to be liked by everyone.
Find people who are like-minded, who give you the same energy back, who have the same values, people that have healed and don’t bring their baggage and toxicity into the friendship. quality >>> quantity. Not everyone is meant for you and that’s okay, because we are not seeking quantity, we are looking for quality friends who have all the values i listed before and the ones you also find important.
The world is your oyster. in this era it’s easier than ever to make friends: meet a lot of people, say yes to plans, go to events, network, etc. The more people you meet the more you will realize that you can’t match naturally with everyone, some people are just not your vibe and the more people you meet the more likely you are to find someone you do mesh well together with. I completely understand that it might be harder for some people who are introverted or have social anxiety to socialize, but in that case I really recommend to work firstly on yourself because a lot of the times those things are triggered by insecurities and a bad relationship with oneself. I also recommend to practice with people online or people who know nothing about you, because that’s the thing: they know nothing about you. If you’re insecure, they don’t know that. If you’re acting in a confident way even though you’re not, they’re also not going to know because they don’t know the way you think or act.
Maybe the problem is YOU. Ifyou’re always losing friendships and struggling to maintain them, maybe the common denominator is you because you have issues you need to introspect. Focus on yourself for some time and fix all the issues that might be making you repel high-value people such as being insecure, romanticizing your sadness, having toxic and jealous behaviors…
II. WHERE AND HOW TO MEET PEOPLE
Like-minded communities !! You need to utilize the resources you have to make friends. friends that last are the ones who think in a similar way and who share similar values and interests, and you’re more likely to find like-minded people in like-minded communities. Build up the courage to go and do things alone so you become comfortable in going to places to meet people alone.
Some like-minded communities can be classes in which they teach hobbies of yours because when there’s a community of people whom you have to coexist with you will be forced to work together in a team and talk to each other and that will make it a lot more easier to make friends. Plus, you’re taking the same class so you’re going to have an interest/hobby to bond over which means automatic conversations without any awkwardness. Another option is to become a regular literally ANYWHERE. Ranging from a coffee shop to a gym, when you become a regular you familiarize with the staff and other regulars.
We’re living in an era in which technology can help you with almost anything. Use this to your advantage! Make online friends, use social media to search for like-minded people, download apps to make friends such as bumble bff…
III. HIGH-VALUE FRIENDS.
Now that you’ve prepared yourself and know where to find friends, let’s talk about how to know when someone is right for you.
Look for people who strive to be the best version of themselves and who are surrounded by positive energy. You are who you surround yourself with, so make friends that bring you positivity and who inspire you. Make sure that you both share how you want your future to look like and have similar future plans. Meshing well with them is a must. For example, someone who prefers and feels more comfortable having low maintenance friendships won’t match with someone who prefers to have high maintenance friendships.
And of course, respect is needed. You cross my boundaries? You’re out. Any sort of toxic or jealous behavior is NOT normal and you should not be friends or be influenced by that type of people.
IV. WHAT TO TALK ABOUT AND HOW TO BE A GOOD FRIEND.
Do NOT come off as desperate. “What if they don’t like me?” Thinking like that will only make you be so immerse in your thoughts that all of your confidence will disappear. Focus on having a “How can I make them feel comfortable and understood?” mindset, you’re now not thinking only about yourself and being self-conscious, so you’re going to appear more confident and since now you’re focusing on listening and making the other person feel comfortable you will make an amazing first impression.
Ask them questions about themselves. People love talking about themselves and this will immediately make them like you. Do not make it look like an interview, tho. Make sure you provide your input too which shouldn’t be hard because every question you ask is going to be redirected to you. You can also start the conversation with a compliment!
Friendship is a two way street. It needs to go both ways and you need to follow up with each other. What are they offering you? What are YOU offering them? Think about what can you give without forgetting what can you receive. The type of friend you want is the type of friend you need to be
V. HOW TO MAINTAIN FRIENDSHIPS
Everyone has the type of friendship maintenance they feel more comfortable with, but it's a fact that low-maintenance friendships are tho ones that last. Even if you feel more comfortable having high maintenance friendships, make sure that both of you can accomodate to having to maintain the friendship even when both of you are busy.
COMMUNICATION!!! I assure you that there's probably going to be a lot of hardships and misundersatings in your friendships (And that's not bad, we're human) and no proper communication will lead to the deterioration of the friendship.

Use the 54321 technique when something triggers you or you’re having an anxiety attack.
Focus on identifying 5 things that you can see, 4 things that you can touch, 3 things that you can hear, 2 things that you can smell and 1 things that you can taste. This will help you bring yourself back to the present and focus on your surroundings so you can calm down and regain focus. I recommend telling your friends to do this in case you have an anxiety attack so they can instruct you what to do if you’re feeling too anxious to think about it.
Use affirmations every morning.
Choose a set of affirmations ( i have a post about general affirmations ideas but i’m open to receiving request of specific affirmations ) that makes you feel safe and that you can link to the state of safety and protection. Become accustomed to them by meditating and using them every morning so when something triggers you thinking about those affirmations can help you bring back the feeling of safety.
Stay out of drama or anything that can make you feel burnt out or triggered.
When you’re all the time receiving toxic energy or doing things that make your social battery run out and feeling burnt out is going to be easier for your anxiety to get to you. Make sure you’re always well rested, don’t engage in toxic gossip or drama, stay away from people who are not meant for you, take part in activities that make you feel at ease, focus on your hobbies and have at least some time to yourself every day.
Know yourself and when you need a break.
It’s totally fine to need a break sometimes, especially when you feel like you’re being bombarded with information or you just simply don’t feel comfortable in that social setting anymore. Don’t be afraid to set boundaries !!! We as humans need them. Take a break until you feel comfortable again or just wrap it up for the day.
Start journaling.
Pour down your feelings into paper ( physical journal ) or even your notes app. This can save you from having a mental baggage build-up and reaching your breaking point on public. Cry if you need to. Pour every feeling you have in the safety of your home, write about everything that bugged you, everything you would’ve liked to say…

Rory was always well-mannered, kind, serene and hard to offend. She treated people with respect and kindness but still had her boundaries clearly set and fought for what she thought was unfair.
organization will make your life easier.
Rory NEVER left her homework to do right before the due date. Always have your homework and projects done before hanging out with friends or doing activities that can be classified as non-productive.
set a goal of books you want to read every year.
Reading gives you power. Books make you realize things you didn’t know about yourself, educate you, expand your vocabulary and are a great entertainment activity.
get out of your house and breath fresh air once in a while.
Go on coffee dates with your friends, go on a walk, go to the library, the cinema… Having a change of scenery will help you relax and not feel stuck.
explore new study methods.
I promise you that studying doesn’t have to be hard nor boring. There’s a perfect study method for you out there, so don’t be afraid to explore and experiment with them ! (I can make a post about this if y’all want)
romanticize school.
Take cute notes so it motivates you to study more, stay out of drama so you can maintain a quiet and calm life and make moodboards to help you get in a studying mood and to remind you of the results you’re going to get.
what other people think of you means nothing, focus on your future.
NEVER be ashamed of focusing on your future and ambitions. Prove people wrong and show them what the results of hard work are.
keep aware of what’s going on in the world.
Know your stuff. It doesn’t always have to be about political or important stuff, Rory doesn’t skimp on pop culture references or jokes, and it genuinely makes you a more interesting and funny person!
be relaxed and confident.
I really like this one episode of the first season in which she’s scolded for not interacting with the other Chilton students and she accidentally joins a secret society whilst Paris has been trying her whole life. Act confident and calm, even if you aren’t, because one thing about confidence is that no one can tell if it’s real or fake. A confident person is a lot more appealing than an insecure one.
keep a positive balance in your life.
Rory spends a lot of her time studying and her academics are really important to her, but she still manages to have a good time and keeps a positive balance between her academic and personal life.

Invest in some satin/silk bedsheets. Ever since I saw Blair’s bedroom I KNEW I needed a comfy-looking bed like hers, and now that I have satin bedsheets I feel like a princess.
Spend time dolling up. Blair Waldorf never leaves her house without looking absolutely perfect. Spending time dolling up can help you feel more aligned with yourself and can boost your self esteem.
Host an annual sleepover with your friends: A night in which you can just focus on having fun with your friends and having a sweet tradition.

you need to have at least 3 hobbies:
one to keep you in shape: going to the gym, cardio, pilates, jogging, lifting weights, dancing or a sport.
one to keep you creative: reading, writing, playing an instrument, learning a language, drawing, crocheting, baking, bullet journaling, sewing …
one to make money: studying, editing, and anything that you can make a business about like doing nails, baking or drawing; or that can help you get a job like learning a language.
