i see you’re a literature major and wanted to ask what your favorite books are? i will use them as recs lowkey
what a nice question! thanks for asking i’d love to talk about my fave books. i will list some gen ones and then talk about my favorites!
i enjoy: wuthering heights, the bell jar, tender is the flesh, the vampire academy series is a guilty pleasure shhh, never let me go, karen miller’s sw books, persuasion, dorian gray, if we were villains, lolita, confessions of a mask, kim jiyoung born 1982, the thirst series (another guilty pleasure), norwegian wood, cursed bunny, milk teeth, klara and the sun.
my ultimate favorites however … have to be
“what’s left of me is yours” by stephanie scott. i believe it’s her debut novel and it’s so beautiful. the descriptions of japan and the immersive dialogue. fascinating family dynamics. it follows the store of a daughter looking back at her mother’s murder and basically we know on page one that her lover killed her. this lover was hired by the husband (in japanese: a wakaresaseya - literally “professional breaker upper”) to infiltrate their marriage, seduce the wife/mother and get caught. that way, the husband gets leverage in a divorce. but things go south when the wakaresaseya falls in LOVE with this woman and it results in her death. it tells you she’s dead and then works backwards, it’s fun, it’s stunning. please read it!!
“the song of achilles” by madeline miller. i think this one is obvious as an obikin and patrochilles truther AND classics student so i won’t say much more. just beautiful writing and really hits it out of the ballpark with the tragedy aspects.
“the forest of hands and teeth” series by carrie ryan. this entire series is just so lovely. each book has a new protag but it’s kind of a family line thing. in the first book we follow mary who lives in a very religious village in the middle of a forest, surrounded by a gate and zombies. everything about this is just beautiful and i cried so hard i snotted, so. a love triangle (with mary and two brothers) done well imo, religious guilt, obsession, zombies and tragedy!! i cant remember the second book very well bcos it’s my least fave but the third book is also KEKCLOCCL. it follows mary’s adoptive daughter in a new setting (i won’t spoil) and introduces a new set of characters, including my fave, “catcher,” who we discover is immune. it’s also super grimy, has twins and devastated cities, good romance and another like … love square … but it works out and is very good read. i love this series a lot and it’s been a fave since i was like 17. my fave topic ever is zombies and this was such a fun take on it. very introspective as well!!
and finally my fave book of all time “the secret history” by donna tartt. again… embarrassingly on point for my specific interests. but i love academic settings, dubious morals and pretentious idiots. i love mystery and guilt (or lack of), murder and undertones of queerness. this book is one i just finished rereading a few days ago actually. it’s annotated to Shit. as someone learning greek it also just pleases me. this aesthetic tartt flawlessly knows how to compose is just !!!! and i want to thank her for giving me the most god awful character known to man and still letting me enjoy him: bunny corcoran. who is fruity gay for henry no i do NOT accept criticism!!

CHAPTER TWO
She was like a mouse being trapped. She couldn’t place her finger on why Vivienne made her feel this way. It’s not like she was doing it on purpose, if anything she’s only been cordial with her.
She led the blonde to her room upstairs, Vivienne still clasping her hand, and Anitta couldn’t understand how someone who mostly ‘kept’ to herself was so comfortable initiating physical touch like this. But she didn’t want to speak about it and make the girl uncomfortable. If this was her way of making friends, who was Anitta to judge? Technically, it was just harmless hand-holding.
Breathe, Anitta. She’s just a girl.
The journey up to her room was a bit tiring, given the length of the stairs, but once they arrived, Vivienne opened the door for her, and Anitta couldn’t help but ogle.
She didn’t come from wealth, that much was obvious. Her mother was always jumping from job to job, and she couldn’t count the number of times they had to move in and out of homes at this point. It was always studio-type ones, she and her mother found a way to squeeze themselves into the littlest space they could find. Their current house was much roomier, located in a sketchy neighborhood where the other properties looked like they were about to collapse in on themselves.
But a home was home. She’s experienced what it’s like to sleep on hardwood and tiled floors. She’s never had a room of her own. She always yearned for one. Something spacious with a lot of windows.
And Vivienne’s room… Vivienne’s room is only something she could dream of having.
A king-sized bed was situated in the center of the room - and it was as if a cloud was yanked from the skies with how white, gigantic, and soft it looked. There were tall cabinets placed near the high windows, which were all closed and only allowed a sliver of sunlight to peek through the gaps.
The entire floor was carpeted, several oil paintings were hung on the wall, and a record player was placed by the desk along with a neat stack of vinyl and some stationery. There was a giant vanity that overflowed with makeup and perfumes that sat idly by the corner of the room, and as Anitta took a whiff of the space, the strong smell of pine permeated her nostrils.
If Vivienne was only a little bit older than her, her room made you think otherwise. It looked too mature for her age, there wasn’t a TV to be found, nor posters of any bands she liked.
There were, however, huge shelves of books that were mounted on the wall as Anitta turned to examine the room. She took a step closer to get a better look, and her selection was astounding. It ranged from several different classics; Ernest Hemingway, Sylvia Plath, Dostoyevsky, Oscar Wilde, Emily Brontë, Thomas Hardy, and Scott Fitzgerald.
She was silent as she gawked at them, and she didn’t even notice the amused glint in Vivienne’s eyes as she looked at the girl.
“Fond of reading?”
She blinked, turning to Vivienne who continued to stare at her with her head tilted “Yes, I do. Although I haven’t read as many classics as you have.”
Vivienne simply waved her hand at that “Reading is reading. People don’t even take a second glance at the shelves once they see them,“ she walked closer to Anitta, the height difference wasn’t much, but she felt towered over “See anything that catches your eye?”
Anitta bit her lip “I always wanted to read that one,” she said.
Vivienne grinned as her eyes followed to where Anitta was pointing “Wuthering Heights? Great choice, it contains one of my favorite passages.”
“Which is?”
Vivienne’s eyes softened “He is more myself than I. Whatever our souls are made of… his and mine are the same.”
Anitta felt her heart jump “That’s beautiful.”
“It is, is there anything here that you have read? A favorite even?”
Anitta deliberated as her eyes skimmed the spines of each novel “I like Emma, Pride and Prejudice is a guilty pleasure book.”
“Jane Austen is phenomenal.”
Anitta smiled widely as she nodded, Vivienne’s chest tingled at the sight “She’s my favorite writer.”
“Seems fitting,” Vivienne hummed, making the blonde blush “Favorite book?”
That made Anitta pause “Although Austen is my favorite I’d have to say… okay, it’s a bit childish, but Alice in Wonderland.”
Vivienne laughed softly at that “Childish? Why would it be childish?”
“I don’t know, I mean, I guess based on what you read Alice in Wonderland is a standard storybook. But my mother always read it to me when I was little. I love how quick-witted Alice is, and how she’s inclined to question everything around her despite how she’s stuck in dreamland. She questions the absurdity of it all. She’s smart.”
Vivienne hummed, never straying her eyes away from Anitta as she listened intently to the girl speak “Questioning the theoretical logic of Wonderland was always something I admired about her, and how she’s opposed to the systems,”
“Yes, exactly.”
Vivienne pursed her lips “Then again if she hadn’t been so detached, she wouldn’t have landed in that situation, but I digress.”
Anitta furrowed her eyebrows at that “It was an accident though, sheer curiosity.”
“Curiosity killed the cat, as they said.” Vivienne quipped, making Anitta huff.
“So you’re telling me you wouldn’t have gone down that rabbit hole?”
“I’m not reckless. you don’t go wandering around like that and not expect the consequences of your actions to bite you in the end.”
“But she was a kid. She’s still smarter than she lets on.”
That made Vivienne arch her eyebrow “Perhaps. In the end, she constructed the whole thing inside her head, how she struggled is her own doing.”
“She just wanted to get away from it all,” Anitta muttered “I would’ve done the same thing.”
“Tired of your reality?”
Her shoulders deflated “A little bit.”
There was an itch at the back of Vivienne’s mind that desperately wanted to be scratched, the rabbit hole of Anitta’s troubles tempting her “Maybe Alice wasn’t that much of a ditz,” she thinks to herself.
“From what exactly?” asked Vivienne “Would you like to get away from?”
“A lot of things,” Anitta answers “I’m tired of seeing my mom breaking her back to provide for me, I hate how she refuses to let me help her, adamant I finish my studies first.”
“It’s more practical that way,”
“It doesn’t make it any less difficult to watch,” Vivienne’s resolve was starting to chip away, finding it hard to stay nonchalant at Anitta’s melancholy.
“You’re a good daughter, Anitta.”
Anitta smiled, although it didn’t quite reach her eyes “I can only hope.”
“But you are. You’re young, you’re deserving of the luxury of escaping your worries.” she didn’t know what compelled her to do it, but Vivienne reached forward and placed a gentle hand on Anitta’s shoulder, as the younger one looked up at her, doe-eyed.
Vivienne clears her throat, pulling her hand away “How about music?”
The tension in the room quickly dissolved as Anitta lit up “Do you have any Fleetwood Mac?”
They weren’t able to keep track of the time or the things they talked about, all they knew was that one moment they were strangers, and then the next they talked endlessly about anything and everything.
At one point Anitta even finds herself lying on Vivienne’s bed, eyes glued to the ceiling as the record player hummed softly in the background, with Vivienne sitting beside her, looking down as Anitta babbled away.
“You do seem like the artsy type.”
Anitta couldn’t help but snort at that “What gave it away? The tattered clothing?”
Vivienne didn’t find any humor in the girl’s jab to herself as she spoke “It’s the way you carry yourself. From what I’ve noticed artists are timid when you meet them, they wouldn’t resort to creative expression if showing who they are authentically came easy, so they settle with art. It’s a way for them to let other people know what they’re like without giving too much away, and without the fear of being too overwhelming.”
Anitta blinked “I didn’t know you could take all of that away from me just being shy.”
Vivienne lets out a chuckle “It’s not just that you’re shy, but once you’ve loosened up you’re not afraid to talk about how books and music are essential to you. It’s clear you don’t have a lot of people to talk about these things with.”
“It just felt like I was never allowed.”
“Why?”
She shrugged “You have to be practical. Being passionate doesn’t take you places.”
Vivienne rolled her eyes “Maybe it’s just not my place to speak on the matter, given where I come from,” Anitta appreciated the self-awareness “But you’re allowed some escapism. The world is a cruel, cruel place. It sucks the life out of you more than anything and anyone.”
That made Anitta ponder “I guess,”
“Promise you’ll focus more on your art than letting it make you feel guilty all the time,” Vivienne said.
Anitta laughed, but quieted down when she saw the look in the other girl’s eyes “I promise, it’s summer now anyway, I have a lot of time.”
That visibly pleased Vivienne “I would love to see some of your art.”
“Nooooo,” Anitta was quick to deny “It’s… embarrassing. I’m not that good.”
“I don’t need perfect,” Vivienne rebutted “I just need you. To know more about you.”
That made Anitta’s cheeks flush, she didn’t know why Vivienne’s compliment made her sheepish, or why her words affected her in the way that they did, but she pushed the feeling down as she nodded “I’ll think about it.”
A knock on the door grabbed their attention.
“Vivienne?”
Anitta was quick to sit up and get to her feet, scared to be seen being too comfortable on Vivienne’s bed given the reason she’s here in the first place, but Vivienne was undeterred, and seemed annoyed even that their time together was interrupted “Come in.”
Pierre stepped inside the room with Camilla by his side, and following close behind was Lydia who took a peek to see where her daughter was.
“Ready to go home now, Nini?”
Anitta closed her eyes in embarrassment as her mother used that awful nickname, as Vivienne smirked “Um yeah, just let me grab my things.”
Vivienne stood up and walked to her desk where Anitta’s sketch pad was placed, as she handed them over, their fingers quickly grazing.
Just as Anitta was about to bid her farewell and walk out, Vivienne’s words made her stop.
“Will you come back?”
She paused, and maybe she was just imagining it but Vivienne’s voice almost had a tinge of desperation.
She felt the gazes of both the girl’s mother and father drill holes at the back of her head “Uh, I don’t know, it depends. Plus I wouldn’t want to bother you too much-“
“You wouldn’t be bothering me,”
“And I don’t wanna take up too much space-“
“Will it be a problem if she came back?” this time Vivienne turned to her parents, her once easy going demeanor melting.
There was a pause, a very long one, it was as if they were choosing their words very carefully.
“Of course not,” Camilla answered, although rather strained.
Anitta didn’t take that as a good sign “We’ll just see, okay? It was nice meeting you, Vivienne.”
Her hardened exterior quickly fell apart when she saw the sincerity in the blonde’s eyes, soft and mellow, she couldn’t do anything but believe her.
“I really had a great time with you,”
She started exiting the room, joining her mother who welcomed her with warm smiles, and as soon as her foot was out the door…
“Wait!” she turned only to have Vivienne shoving a book to her chest.
Her eyebrows furrowed “What…”
“Keep it, I know you wanted to read it.”
It was Vivienne’s copy of Wuthering Heights, and that made Anitta freeze as she was quick to push it back to her “Vivienne, I can’t.”
“I insist.”
“It’s too much and we’ve only just met.”
“You deserve it,”
She couldn’t help the heat that crept up to the back of her neck as Pierre and Camilla watched them with daunting eyes “Vivienne, please.” she pleaded with her.
Vivienne knew Anitta wasn’t going to allow her to give her things away that easily, and it’s obvious her parents’ disapproval of it, although it wasn’t verbalized, was obvious to Anitta.
“Then borrow it, at least? I feel like you would really like it.”
She knew it was too late to turn back now and to deny Vivienne of her wishes, so with a defeated sigh, she took the novel in her hands as Vivienne looked at her, triumphant.
“Okay, but I’ll be quick to give it back.”
“Take your time,” she said “Savor it.”
She gulped, nodding as she and Vivienne took a step back, although it felt like some intangible force was still pulling them back together.
“So that when you return…” Vivienne said, “We’ll talk about it.”

For some reason BirdFlash gives me the look like nerds but are actually jocks vibe while JayRoy are the look like jocks but are actually nerds vibe. TimKon is the classical jock + nerd and since this came to my mind I can't unsee
Tumblr media
At first sight, birdflash gives off STRONG nerd vibes. wally’s actually known throughout the school for his science achievements, trophies, and awards. you don’t stand a chance against him in the science fair, don’t even try. and dick went to a fancy rich prep school where he scored some of their highest grades. just because he doesn’t like school doesn’t mean he isn’t good at it. and whenever they see each other in civvies, wally’s chattering on about this experiment he’s doing for fun and it seems like dick actually understands what he’s talking about, not just nodding along. and with a single visit to wally’s school, he revolutionized the tech department with a few careless suggestions. but really, that’s just their individual interests. wally might like science, but his entire life is running. he trains and trains, both with and without the speedforce. along with being trapped in that thing for years, wally’s pretty sure the reason he’s the fastest speedster is because of his strict track and cross-country training. and no matter what the circumstances, dick’s always happiest when he’s in the air. he possesses a natural athleticism that leaves others in awe along with skills finely honed to perfection for years that very few others could even hope to achieve. the two of them are long and lean and strong, and are in complete control over their bodies. they play different sports for fun, give each other leg warmers, socks, and water bottles for holidays, and go on early morning runs. the two of them are sports culture to the max (i actually made a post about that here)
now jayroy give off just the jock vibe, maybe even running into punk territory. first of all, lets get this out of the way: BICEPS. two of the biggest pairs of guns you’ll ever see, i swear. roy’s got a cocky smirk and he wears threadbare tank tops with dumb slogans on them and he never takes that trucker hat off. he makes his way into the basketball game going on at the courts on the bad side of town with a laugh. he squares up his fists for a fight any time there’s a hint of action. his nose is crooked from all the times its been broken and reset. not to mention his tattoos. and yes, roy loves lian with his entire heart and cares for her with everything he has, but that doesn’t change the fact that he was a teenager. now jason, jason just looks the part. he’s huge, and built like a goddamn brick wall. those muscles gotta be used for something, right? he’s always wearing those fingerless gloves, but his knuckles are constantly bruised anyway. you stop and take a double take anytime you see him when his lip isn’t split. almost everyone’s seen him with a gun. but he also spends his free time reading literary classics. his bookshelf is crammed full of old paperbacks, with everything from Frankenstein to Wuthering Heights to Farenheight 459 to The Importance of Being Earnest. The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy is a guilty pleasure of his. And he’s not just flipping through them either. no, he reads them. poking plot holes and other criticisms faster than a bullet. character analyzations sharper than his jawline. a lecture about the problem with many contemporary and modern novels longer than his dick. yea, jason devours those novels, and can tell you about all of them. as for roy, he’s inventive. always tinkering, always fiddling with a piece of tech, always creating. whether it be a new set of trick arrows or a coffee machine that spits out poison darts of a toaster that has 56 settings or a goddamn bazooka. he loves building stuff with his own two hands, a messy bun on his head, grease on his face, goggles shoved over his eyes as whatever he’s making sparks to life in his hands, bested only by the strike of pure creative passion in his eyes. textbook definition mechanic and geek, and we love him for it.
timkon is definitely the classic jock + nerd pairing. the only problem is that they always switch which is which. kon drapes his spiked leather jacket over tim’s shoulders when he’s cold, and later on at football games, tim cheers kon on wearing kon’s varsity jacket. but tim dropped out of high school because he has “better things to do” while kon just genuinely enjoys learning about stuff. kon does need help with his homework, so he calls tim, who always gives kon the math formulas he forgot the empirical formula of a compund that he doesn’t feel like calculating while simulaneously working on a couple other cases (he bounces his theories for a certain homicide off kon). but half of tim’s closet is made of sports jerseys for his favourite teams that he wears completely unironically even though they practically dwarf him, and he drags kon to all of their games while cheering and hollering, screaming at the tv when he can’t be there live,,,,and it’s not just one sport,,,,,nooo he’s got a good many he’s completely emotionally invested in. tim steals kon’s shirts so often that he just starts giving them to him, and dear god there’s almost nothing kon loves more than seeing tim wearing his clothes, looking tiny and misleadingly delicate and his. but tim carries around a skateboard and uses it practically 24/7, and one afternoon was spent teaching kon how to use the thing, including lots of laughing and falling over and steadying hands on waists, before a break at an ice cream parlour was followed by a sugary kiss. so yea, timkon is jock + nerd culture, with both of them being the jock and the nerd (also sorry anon i know you were thinking of kon being the jock and tim being the nerd, and honestly that’s how i usually view it too, its just this particular idea popped into my head and i had to write it) (also for timkon, i usually go for skate culture, and my hc for that is here)
ok wow this got a lot longer than i expected. i was shooting for a couple lines about my ships, and ended up with a whole new hc list instead. ooooof. tag list: @comicsandhoney @birdy-bat-writes @astroherogirl @anothertimdrakestan

Literary Quiz
Favourite literary hero: Atticus Finch - To Kill A Mockingbird Just don't read Go Set A Watchmen, it's not a prequel and nothing more than a first draft of TKAM that the publishers pushed an old woman to release. Favourite literary villain: Francisco Javier Fumero - The Shadow of the Wind A true bastard but so well written.
Most deplorable character: Heathcliff - Wuthering Heights Nothing about this man is redeemable. I once heard him described as romantic....he's a deplorably toxic human being. I don't think I've ever hated a character as much as him. Brilliant book though!    Delores Umbridge is a close second.
A guilty pleasure: Miss Misery by Andy Greenwald I don't particularly like the phrase 'guilty pleasure' you should never be ashamed of something you love. Although this book probably hasn't aged well in terms of how the protagonist treats the women of his life, yet it's an amazing time capsule of the early 00's emo/indie scene. Dostoevsky meets emo meets fight club. A book you loved that no one ever talks about: A History of Love by Nicola Krauss I rarely give five star reviews, but this book really got me.  I was bought it as a gift and totally judged it on the front cover and title. It sat on my shelf for years until I ran out of books to read and it ended up being one of the best i've ever read.  A beautiful novel. If you could recommend just one book: The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery I fucking bawled my eyes out, then read up on the author and cried all over again when I realised the parallels. A beautiful, beautiful book.
Favourite short story: A Perfect Day for Bananafish/Teddy by J.D. Salinger The best short stories I've read, hands down.
Recommend a book that many people won't have heard of:  The Guest Cat by Takashi Hiraide The prose is just beautiful, a simple story that just captures life.
A Book to avoid: The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon It was marketed as 'The Next Potter' which isn't fair to the author at all, and I shouldn't have naively taken the bait.  It was awful, another example of YA fiction that perpetuates the toxic relationship theme as in someway romantic that in truth is incredibly damaging to its readers. Favourite living author:  Haruki Murakami His books are like dreams, they often don't add up, with certain aspects never truly being explained.  He's the David Lynch of literature.  I find something oddly comforting in his novels which take me away to a dream like place.
Favourite dead author: Gabriel Garcia Marquez One Hundred Years of Solitude is an absolute masterpiece, the king of magical realism.
A book that made you cry: White Fang by Jack London I've already mentioned The Little Prince but White Fang made me cry too. That book is such an emotional rollercoaster.
A book that made you angry: A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway An amazing book, but there's a very valid reason that Bradley Cooper threw it through a window in the film, Silver Linings Playbook.

Which books would you recommend to the ATLA cast, fiction and/or nonfiction
Wasn’t sure if you meant like the actual cast of voice actors or the characters themselves. So I’ll go with the characters because I only really follow Grey in terms of social media lol.
Aang - I put him first but actually got to him last because honestly I wasn’t sure for him. He’s a sweet and lighthearted kid. So maybe some comedy books like Diary of a Wimpy kid or something. NGL I can see him liking animal books like The Saddle Club or a book about dogs. I’d tell him to stay away from Where The Red Fern Grows.
Katara - I feel like she’d be into something more romance-y like Danielle Steel. I can see her liking Dancing At The Harvest Moon by Cathie Pelletier or something like First Frost by Sarah Addison Allen. Both have this charming cozy feel that I think she’d enjoy.
Sokka - I think that Sokka would like those choose your own adventure type books. None in particular come to mind (maybe Goosebumps?) but I think that it would capture his attention the most.
Toph - I would read Uglies aloud to her. Uglies is like this dystopia world where everyone reaches an certain age and then they get a surgery to be the perfect version of themselves. The series follows a girl who goes against this and questions it.
Zuko - I think that Zuko might be fond of self help books tbh lol. But jokes aside I would probably recommend comics to him. Idk he just strikes me as the sort who would like a well written superhero comic. They can actually get pretty deep from what I’ve seen.
Suki - I can see her enjoying Pretty Little Liars. Idk why but I feel as though she’d enjoy high school drama stuff. I feel like it would be a guilty pleasure thing.  I can also see her enjoying Uglies with Toph. Perhaps Divergant and Hunger Games too.
Azula - Azula is very much a horror fan in my mind. So for her I’d recommend King and Lovecraft novels because they make you think; they aren’t just horror and gore for the edge. Sometimes she’d be in the mood for more mindlessly gorey like The Ruins by Scott Smith. I can also see her being fond of the classics (because she only reads the finest literature or something lol), particularly Dante’s Inferno.
Mai - I think that she’d love the goth classics; Dracula, Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights, etc. As well as poets like Poe. But that’s kind of a given xD So there is this graphics novel series I started called Sandman by Neil Gaiman that she might enjoy as well. It’s dark and sinister and deals with some deep themes. I can see her enjoying Dante’s Inferno with Azula.
TyLee -  TyLee is very openly a Pretty Little Liars fan. I can also see her enjoying the Clique series and the Baby Sitters club. Also books like Warrior Cats. I can see her liking cute animal books.

whatever our souls are made of.
Obey Me! Shall We Date drabble; Pairing: Lucifer + (n)MC Warnings: mentions of sex Genre: self indulgent fluff, comfort, introspective Author’s notes: I really like the parallelism between Lucifer and Heathcliff, plus Lucifer being just as much of a literature nerd as Satan has always been an headcanon of mine. So, yeah. - “I’d love to be able to work my way inside your head, you know,” Lucifer mused. He had just put down his favourite fountain pen, a recent gift of yours, and was now keeping himself busy with a curious inspection of you face. It wasn’t an unusual occurrence by any means: you often found yourself reading in his study, comfortably sprawled on his recliner, as Lucifer expertly scribbled away. It was comforting to watch him work, a guilty pleasure you didn’t bother to keep hidden. Not that you could hide anything, not from him. Never. You had all of him, he had all of you. It was that easy.
“I’m just very concerned,” you replied, an automatic smile curving your lips. “Can you believe Elizabeth insists on keeping poor Darcy at bay?” “Such outrage,” Lucifer played along contentedly, just as you knew he would. Granted, he didn’t exactly look like the sweet, compassionate kind of man - the type to warmly receive affection and reciprocate it in kind, always striving for intimacy in the most mundane of moments, but he was. Oh, he was. This time was no exception. “Besides, it’s not like Darcy’s completely devoid of any fault, is he?”. You can’t really counter his point, so you opt for a dignified sulk instead. Undeterred, Lucifer chuckles lightly. “May I suggest going back to the classics, my love?” You gasped then, comically affronted. “Pride and Prejudice is a classic, mister!” “Apologies, miss.” The apparent sarcasm in his velvety tone makes you roll your eyes, but you graciously let him finish. “I should’ve made myself clearer. I meant our classics.” Oh. You feel your cheeks catch fire at his remark, which has Lucifer let out an elegant chuckle. Ugh, ever the gentleman! That man knew precisely what buttons to push to get all of his favourite reactions out of you, and it drove you mad. “We read Wuthering Heights together a thousand times, Lucifer”, you note. “I can practically quote it by heart!” That claim was in no way a fabricated brag: you really could. In fact, both of you could. The fiery passion you shared for English literature was the thread that first connected your heart to his, after all. Emily Brontë’s was the first novel you ever read together; the very first time Lucifer ever made love to you, intense and untamed, was also the day you reached the last chapter of the book. You’re not exactly proud of it now, but it made you erupt in unceremonious sobs, your face plainly reflecting the sheer grief in your heart. It wasn’t just a cursed romance, it was a proper tragedy. A terrifying prospect, really, especially for someone so enamored with the characters. For someone so in love. He must’ve shared your feelings back then… well, not that he expressed it directly, of course. You felt it a while later, after Lucifer’s comforting hugs turned into his lips openly assaulting yours, his chest pressed impossibly closed to you. As you ran your trembling fingers through his hair, he made short work of undressing you, tearing apart your clothes with an urgency that made you beg and beg for more. That was the very first time his body whispered all of his secrets to yours, unfolding and opening up his soul for you to see. Desires, regrets, aspirations and shame: you two shared it all. The back of Lucifer’s cold hand coming to rest on your cheek forces you back to reality. You look up to him, who’s now standing right next to the recliner you’re currently occupying, hovering over you with a knowing smile on his face. “I can definitely evoke some of it, yes,” he agreed, nonchalantly. Lucifer went silent for a moment, seemingly pondering something. “Be with me always, take any form, drive me mad,“ he then whispered suddenly, enunciating every word as clearly as he could. “Only do not leave me in this abyss, where I cannot find you.” Your body reacted to his words faster than your mind ever could. Stretching your arms forward, you hooked them behind his nape and hastily pulled him down with as much strenght as you could muster. It was admittedly impossible for a frail human like you to force a demon into any sort of movement, but Lucifer met you halfway in a second nonetheless. He kissed you with a tenderness you’d come to expect from him, but it made your eyes sting with grateful tears all the same. “ I cannot live without my life,” Lucifer breathed into the kiss, handily quoting your cherished book word for word and sending your heart flying to your throat. “I cannot live without my soul.” There’s a line Catherine delivers at some point in the book, you recall. It’s always been your favourite, even before stumbling upon hell itself. Even before finding the love of your life there. He’s more myself than I am, Catherine tells Nelly. You close your eyes and welcome Lucifer’s kiss all over again.  Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.

Answer ALL the "Classic Author Asks" ! =) =) =)
All!? Very bold of you...which I greatly respect. Shall we?
Mary Shelley: Were you a goth, prep, nerd, or jock in school? I was none and all. I was a theatre kid who was in Quiz Bowl and Model UN while I failed classes. I  used all of my jokes on the jocks and taught Blair Witch Project to my favorite goths.
Zora Neale Hurston: Do you write in your free time? If so, then what do you write? I do, a lot in fact. I write a little bit of everything honestly. Currently I am working on a series of horror/historical short stories for a collection and my first Southern Gothic novel.
J.D. Salinger: What was the last movie you watched? What Lies Beneath! My friends and I watched it last night. It is so good. A fantastic lesson in dread and using 19th century Gothic troupes.
Alice Walker: What was the first “adult” book you ever read? First adult book... does anyone remember this? I can’t decide if it was Wuthering Heights or The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. Certainly it was one of those.
Bram Stoker: Do you prefer suspenseful horror movies, gore, or jump scares? This is my love language. All of the above? Each satisfy a starving need. I love all horror, even the terrible ones because it is such a fascinating subject. Historical horror however is lovely!
Oscar Wilde: What book have you read more than once? Ironically The Picture of Dorian Gray. Also Alice in Wonderland, Fever 1793, Cathy’s Book, and Look Homeward Angel.
Beatrix Potter: Do you like reading inside or outside? INSIDE. Preferably when it rains, in front of a open window.
Ann Radcliffe: What’s something you’re known for among your friends or family? Oh dear...I am known to offer fiery debate and conversation, especially about media. Also, I will always go on a trip.
Lord Byron: What’s a negative quality that you can admit to having? Ha, well thats quite the conversation starter isn’t it? I am terribly stubborn and a perfectionist which usually leads me to not acting on good ideas.
Edna St. Vincent Millay: Do you have a favorite poem or one you can recite? I used to be able to recite ‘O Captain, My Captain’ and ‘Jabberwocky’ (great for Lit parties). My always favorite poem is Paula Becker to Clara Westhoff by Adrienne Riche and my new favorite poem is A Woman Waits For Me by Walt Whitman
Jane Austen: Have you ever fallen in love? No. My heart has been broken for less.
Langston Hughes: If you could be part of a literary era, which one? Victorian Gothic Revival or Lost Generation. Trust me I have thought about this a great deal.
Emily Dickinson: What’s the last book you were reading? Last book was Alice Isn’t Dead, but I couldn’t finish it.
Stendhal: Have you ever hid a book you were reading because you were embarrassed? Oh of course, I am slightly ashamed when I read the young adult books of my youth. I also have the guilty pleasure of reading time travel romances. (if you have recs hit me up)
Charles Dickens: What book are you currently reading? I am reading Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and The Alienst by Caleb Carr
Thomas Hardy: Are you a city or country person? Both. I was born in the country and found it mindless and soul sucking, but there are no waterfalls in the city nor old trees that tell stories. I need a balance
Virginia Woolf: What book has been on your TBR longer than a year? The Jane Austen Bookclub, it never quite fits the mood.
Edith Wharton: What’s your favorite season for reading? Winter. I lounge in the sun room, that frosty white light streaming in. Smell of cooking chocolate and evergreen candles and warbled record of old winter songs nearby.
(Deep breath. Lord that was an exercise in thought.)

“Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.” ✨📖✨ After We Collided by Anna Todd was my guilty pleasure read after Spinoza’s Ethics. I felt I needed something light and easy to read, and I enjoyed my time back with Tessa and Hardin. I found most of the story to be slightly repetitive of the first book, and found that Tessa and Hardin just seemed to be repeating the same cycle of the first novel over and over again. I did love all of the book talk though, especially that of Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights. ✨📖✨ After We Collided is book 78 for 2020. #bookstragram #books #booksofinstagram #booklover #bookphoto #reading #aussieswhoread #avidreader #booklover #aussiereader #bookdragon #reader #readersofig #booksofig #bookcommunity #bookish #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #booklife #bookaddict #girlswhoread #readinggoals2020 #auskiwibooksta #bookquote #afterwecollided #annatodd #annatoddafterbooks #guiltypleasurereads #seriescontinuation https://www.instagram.com/p/CFZkuHYA7yT/?igshid=1cznapdbumtc

The Reading Tag
I was tagged by @neoncathedrals! Let’s do this thing!
1. Which book has been on your shelves the longest?
It’s funny because I just got rid of a lot of the books that have been sitting on my shelves. But I guess the oldest one that’s still there is the complete tales and poems by Edgar Allan Poe. I’ve had that thing forever! (Though I still haven’t finished reading all of the stories.)
2. What is your current read, your last read and the book you’ll read next?
Current: The Stand by Stephen King
Last: the last book I read was a textbook about journalism, but the last not textbook was Passing by Nella Larsen
Next: Revolution Has Come by Robyn C. Spencer
3. Which book does everyone like and you hated?
The House of Night and the Parthalon series by P.C. Cast. The deeper into the series I got, the less and less I rooted for the characters.
4. Which book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t?
The Edgar Allan Poe stories. I don’t know if I’ll ever get back to those!
5. Which book are you saving for “retirement?”
I’m not sure. There are lots of books that I want to read but haven’t read. I want to read more Octavia E. Butler, but I’m hoping to get to that sooner than later!
6. Last page: read it first or wait till the end?
Yep! I used to feel guilty about reading the last page first, but now I don’t.
7. Acknowledgements: waste of ink and paper or interesting aside?
I think they’re cool. I tend to skip them, but I don’t mind them. What I don’t get is why there’s sometimes three or four literally blank pages in the backs of books when the story is over. What’s the deal with that?
8. Which book character would you switch places with?
I would so love to be like a witch or a psychic. The problem is that the main characters of those books have to make decisions that I’m not sure I want to be put in the position to make!
9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life (a person, a place, a time)?
Yeah. I did most of my reading in high school (college classes don’t give you a lot of opportunity to read for pleasure). The books I still have from that time remind me of why I wanted to be a writer in the first place.
10. Name a book you acquired in some interesting way.
When I was a senior in high school my friend and I were walking to her house to hang out and we passed a box of books that had been abandoned by a trashcan in front of a house. It was clear that they didn’t want to have them anymore, but they were all in good condition, and I couldn’t in good conscious just leave them behind... so I took them. They’ve been with me ever since.
I keep telling myself that I’ll read the books. It’s mostly filled with a lot of the older thriller novels by James Patterson, but the box is a little intimidating. I don’t think I’ll ever get to it :P
11. Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person?
No one special. But I have loaned out books... only to never see them again >.> I don’t do that anymore.
12. Which book has been with you to the most places?
I don’t take books with me unless I need them for class.
13. Any “required reading” you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad ten years later?
Wuthering Heights. I’ve had to read that book at least five times. The first three times I didn’t like it. I hated how awful everyone was to each other. There isn’t really a character you can root for in the book. But these most recent times I’ve started to enjoy it more. I love how it’s written and I love how raw and complicated the characters are. Now I love it.
14. What is the strangest item you’ve ever found in a book?
I’ve never found anything strange.
15. Used or brand new?
Both! I do prefer new, but you can find so many cool things in used bookstores.
16. Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses?
Literary genius! Although, I don’t agree with every choice he makes when he writes.
17. Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book?
I don’t think so. Jaws is based on a book, but I’ve never read it. I love the movie though.
18. Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to celluloid?
I’ve never read Valerian, but I didn’t enjoy the movie. Not one bit.
19. Have you ever read a book that’s made you hungry, cookbooks being excluded from this question?
Not exactly... but I am often hungry when I read books.
20. Who is the person whose book advice you’ll always take?
No one! I’ve accepted and rejected book advice from everyone I know. I don’t even follow my own book advice lol.
Yay! That was fun! I’ll tag a few people for this: @elisawinther, @hklunethewriter, @thatwriternamedvolk , @brynwrites, @sevenandtwo, @ink-ravn and anyone else who sees this and wants to do it!

Childhood Sweetheart Favourite book from childhood
I don’t ever remember a time when I didn’t read or was read to.  As a child I loved reading fairy tales, while I loved the Disney versions of them I also found the original folk tales endearing and attractive.  I loved Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella.  From there I moved on to Phantom of the Opera which I some may find strange as a childhood book but in my family the musical was loved and adored so it seemed only natural I would adore the book too – even if it is a lot darker than the musical or movies have ever portrayed
First love The first book you fell in love with
I had a beautiful copy of A Christmas Carol my mam and dad gave me.  It was beautifully illustrated and I’ve always been a bit of a Christmas nut so that book was always on my beside table.  I think it’s the epitome of Christmas and probably what drives my internal imaginings of what makes the perfect Christmas.
Biggest book crush The book character you’re totally in love with
Books were always my best friend, I was a bullied as a child from the age of five to sixteen so for me friends where the characters in books.  They were the people I could rely on, identify with, feel safe with, they wouldn’t judge me or hurt me in the way others did.
I remember sitting watching Pride and Prejudice when it was dramatized on the BBC with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle and I fell in love with those characters and their relationships.  I loved Darcy and how complicated he was, how deep down you knew he was likable but his actions always made him seem the opposite.
Weirdest book crush Well… duh
Wuthering Heights – there’s something so dark and disturbing about the story of Cathy and Heathcliff, I had a real obsession with the book when I was younger.  There’s something enticing about Heathcliff as a character and I think I was often intrigued about what had happened to him in the time he spent away from the moors.   I think because it’s not explained in the book it made me more anxious to know.

Secret love Guilty Reading pleasure
Probably a love for Young Adult books every now and again I go back to reading something like Harry Potter or the Hunger Games.   I used to love reading Point Horror and Point Romance as a teenager so sometimes it’s nice to go back and re-read and relive what you used to love.
Love one, love them all Favourite series or genre
Miss Marple – I love Agatha Christie, her crime novels were always a cosy fireside read.  The crimes were never so detailed and horrific as you sometimes get in modern thrillers and crime dramas.  I loved the little old lady who people assumed because of her age and her background she knew nothing.  She was highly intelligent but to me she had the measure of everyone else, she knew how much they would underestimate her and she used it to her advantage.  She was brilliant and I loved reading every adventure she had.
Your latest squeeze Favourite read of the last 12 months
Shadows of the Work House – Jennifer Worth.  I read the first Call the Midwife book a couple of years ago, I’ve had the second and third on my TBR pile for quite a while.  I started this one around Christmas and it was just so well written and the characters so real, it had everything love, laughter, sadness and hope.
Greatest love of all Favourite book of all time.
Pride and Prejudice – it always stays with me, I have this love of a golden age and I gravitate to books that offer that.

Thanks Claire. Some really classic choices in there. I loved reading all the Ladybird Fairy Stories like Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast as a child so that’s really brought back the memories there. And I love a bit of MIss Marple. If you’re talking TV/Film adaptations then I don’t think anyone will ever beat Joan Hickson for me. She was Miss Marple, in every way.
What do you reckon folks? Agree with Claire’s choices? Any books you would recommend?
Have a fab weekend of bookish fun all

old english, hot cocoa, mint tea, iced coffee
Old English : You’re stranded on an island, who do you bring with you?
Well, if we’re going to pick anyone it would most liked be Finn. Cause who else would be smart enough to get us off said island? If I can get him to stop panicking first...
Hot Chocolate : Are you an affectionate person?
I enjoy a nice cuddle now and again. Usually only if I really like the person.
Mint Tea : How do you relax?
Typically with a nice tea in one hand, and a book in the other. Any place outside when the weather is nice as well.
Iced Coffee : Do you like reading? If so, what’s your favorite book?
I do! I really love the sappy romance novels, they’re a guilty pleasure. But I also love the classics, Wuthering Heights is my favorite, by far.
