#QOTD: Do you have any reading goals for 2020? #AOTD: I’ve set my reading goal at 30 books again on Goodreads, even though I didn’t manage it in 2019 🙈 I also want to read more books than I buy! I’m more dedicated to this goal, and even have a whole spreadsheet ready to keep track (so far I’ve bought 2 and read 0 😅) And my last goal is to read more children’s classics! I own a lot of them but most I’ve never read, so I want to rectify that!✨ #childrenofbloodandbone #tomiadeyemi #henryholt #bookcover #bookcoverart #yalit #yabooks #yabookstagrammer #yafantasy #bookgoals #bookgoals2020 #readinggoals #readinggoals2020 #bookban #booksbooksbooks #bookdragon https://www.instagram.com/p/B7HDxRqguyy/?igshid=1ltywxlla6tnb

My reading goal for last year was 12 books- it was low, but it was to compensate for how much time I was going to spend studying for my CCP exam. Well, I managed to overshoot that goal with a total of 21 books. My goal for this year is 29 books: 25 new ones and 4 rereads. And at least 5 of the new ones should be nonfiction. Do you see anything on my list you’d like to read? Or do you have a goal set for 2020? 📚 #tea #teaandbooks #booksandtea #teatime #teatimemagfeed #chip #chipmug #chiptheteacup #reader #ilovereading #booklist #booklist2019 #readinggoals #readinggoals2020 #bookjournal #booklover #novels #lists #blacktea (at Blaine, Washington) https://www.instagram.com/p/B66jC9dg3w_/?igshid=em8gcag94p1

“This book is a celebration of all the dresses that have made my heart sing - some ridiculous, some shocking and some so beautiful that they literally took my breath away.” 👗✨👗✨👗 The Dress: 100 Iconic Moments in Fashion by Megan Hess is a simply beautiful looking book filled with incredible sketches of memorable outfits from fashions biggest names. The book is split into 6 different parts (Designers, Icons, Weddings, Music, Film, Oscars) with a brief introduction to tie it all together. I enjoyed the brief paragraph or two explains the designer, the dress and the wearer, but as someone who doesn’t know much about the fashion world, I would have liked a little bit more information and depth. That being said, this book is both a quick read and a visually stunning one, from the cover to the end pages, the gilded gold edges to the illustrations depicting the dresses and the women who wore them. I think anyone who is even remotely interested in fashion would love flipping through this book. ✨👗✨ Thanks so much to @tomislavcielicki for gifting me this gorgeous book! 👗✨👗✨👗 The Dress is book 94 for 2020. #bookstragram #books #booksofinstagram #booklover #bookphoto #reading #aussieswhoread #avidreader #bookwhore #aussiereader #bookdragon #reader #readersofig #booksofig #bookcommunity #bookish #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #booklife #bookaddict #girlswhoread #readinggoals2020 #auskiwibooksta #bookquote #thedress100iconicmomentsinfashion #meganhess #meganhessthedress #beautifulbook #nonfictionreads https://www.instagram.com/p/CHWuswaABiI/?igshid=135hul9y69bdd

“Absence doesn't make the heart grow fonder. It makes people think you're dead.” ✨📇✨📇✨ I loved every moment that it took me to read this marvellous dip into literary history. Christopher Fowler has done a fantastic job with The Book of Forgotten Authors. Fowler’s enthusiasm and humour was palpable throughout the entirety of this book, and it was delightful to read about these 99 authors, some of whom I knew and some I didn’t. I loved how he not only included what they were famous for and their books, but as many facts as he could about their lives and the the times they belonged to. This should be read from start to finish, rather than skipping around authors, because he makes connecting points from one entry to the next. Due to these connections, the book flowed really well between one author/genre to the next. A couple of other things I was really pleased with was the focus on women writers, and the way he focused on multi-genres. There were little bits of everything, and it made for an incredibly interesting read. While I didn’t agree with some of the things Fowler wrote, I really loved this book and I’ve got a new list of books to eventually find and check out thanks to him. ✨📇✨📇✨ The Book of Forgotten Authors is book 26 for 2020. #bookstragram #books #booksofinstagram #booklover #bookphoto #reading #aussieswhoread #avidreader #booklover #aussiereader #bookdragon #reader #readersofig #booksofig #bookcommunity #bookish #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #booklife #bookaddict #girlswhoread #readinggoals2020 #bookquote #thebookofforgottenauthors #christopherfowler #amazingnonfiction #allaboutauthors #pinkandblack #nonfictionreads #fascinatingreading https://www.instagram.com/p/B9gCka3geFx/?igshid=f4iy6wh6vcaw

“That shit is totally fascinating and we’re all obsessed with it on some level, but at the end of the day, the only reason it matters is the victim.” 💀✨💀✨💀 Trigger warnings for murder, rape, assault, abuse, drug and alcohol addiction, eating disorders, depression and anxiety. ✨💀✨ Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered by podcasters Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark is part dual memoir and part true crime. It is an intensely funny, truthful and emotional book, and I am very pleased to have read it. Both Kilgariff and Hardstark talk about how they became Murderinos and what their favourite true crimes are, and both of them tell us a little bit about their history and lives before starting the My Favorite Murder podcast. It was such an amazing read, and I’ve learnt so much about a couple of true crimes that I’ve never heard about, and about both of the authors. I highly recommend this book if you’re a fan of the podcast or true crime. 💀✨💀✨💀 Stay Sexy and Don’t Get Murdered is book 25 for 2020. #bookstragram #books #booksofinstagram #booklover #bookphoto #reading #aussieswhoread #avidreader #booklover #aussiereader #bookdragon #reader #readersofig #booksofig #bookcommunity #bookish #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #booklife #bookaddict #girlswhoread #readinggoals2020 #bookquote #staysexyandontgetmurdered #georgiahardstark #karenkilgariff #truecrime #dualmemoir #autobiography #nonfictionbooks https://www.instagram.com/p/B9WMYwuAVpj/?igshid=1wiu58lqywd80

“I can’t change what happened to you in the past, but together we may be able to use your experience to help protect other people.” ✨🗞✨🗞✨ She Said contains trigger warnings for sexual harassment, sexual assault, sexual abuse and rape. Please read carefully! 🗞✨🗞 She Said by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey was another incredibly hard but worthwhile read to start 2020 off. This nonfiction work is a complete look into the behind-the-scenes and the publicly known processes that the journalists used during the investigation and publishing of their articles of men in power sexually harassing and abusing women in their employment. Most notably, and for the majority of this book, it was Harvey Weinstein. The reporters share new and detailed information that helped them both break the case - everything from evidence to sources to leads. The focus was mostly on the structure of power that allowed Weinstein to get away with what he was doing for more than 25 years, which was supported with numerous interviews from his victims. This book was written with respect for the victims, the subjects involved, and the severity of the situation they found themselves in, and it was written in a way that was easy to read, but still imparted the significance of what was happening. They kept true to fact, without exaggeration, and I liked it all the more for it. This was a hard but interesting read, and I was pleased to learn more about the way these women had broken the story surrounding Weinstein and his treatment of women. ✨🗞✨🗞✨ She Said is book 2 for 2020. #bookstragram #books #booksofinstagram #booklover #bookphoto #reading #aussieswhoread #avidreader #booklover #aussiereader #bookdragon #reader #readersofig #booksofig #bookcommunity #bookish #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #booklife #bookaddict #girlswhoread #readinggoals2020 #bookquote #shesaid #jodikantor #megantwohey #redblackwhite #nonfictionreadsthatareworthyourtime #flaylay https://www.instagram.com/p/B7DguL8g2qV/?igshid=1uhr03s1d8tpb

“I’ve always viewed this project as a social biography, with Nick Cave at the centre of of a kaleidoscope of stories.” ✨🎶✨🎶✨ Sorry for the late post, it was my birthday yesterday and I was travelling to see my family, with my boyfriend! And then we got caught up with celebrating New Years! 🎶✨🎶 Mark Mordue’s biography Boy on Fire: The Young Nick Cave is an incredibly detailed and fascinating look into the life of Australian musician, writer, director and artist Nick Cave, along with his bands The Boys Next Door and The Birthday Party during the times that they were in the making and when they were making a name for themselves. I’ve been listening to Nick Cave and his various bands for as long as I can remember, seeing as my parents, especially my dad, is such a huge fan of his works. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds were the first concert I attended. So to say that I was intrigued in this book is a huge understatement. I loved how much in-depth background Mordue gave, not just about Cave personally, but also the places he grew up, the people he was involved with, musically and romantically, and the entirety of the music scene at that particular time in history. This was an incredibly well researched and put together biography. The writing was factual and smooth, and the chapters flowed smoothly into each other. This book was a pure joy to read, and I loved every moment of it. ✨🎶✨🎶✨ Boy on Fire is book 106 for 2020. #bookstragram #books #booksofinstagram #booklover #bookphoto #reading #aussieswhoread #avidreader #bookwhore #aussiereader #bookdragon #reader #readersofig #booksofig #bookcommunity #bookish #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #booklife #bookaddict #girlswhoread #readinggoals2020 #auskiwibooksta #bookquote #boyonfire #theyoungnickcave #markmordue #biography #oneofmyfavouritemusicians https://www.instagram.com/p/CJf2oIsgSOu/?igshid=49vu7mv4la12

“The eyes, touched in with a burning yellow, had intensely black pupils, and were fixed upon the throned King with a look of beast-like hate.” 👻✨👻✨👻 Ghosts Stories of an Antiquary is a short classic collection of horror and ghost stories by M. R. James that I didn’t really think much of, apart from one that’s going to stick with me for a while. While I do understand that this is a short story collection, most of them failed to be scary or even remotely interesting, and I really struggled to push myself to finish the book. The writing didn’t flow well, and I found it hard to connect with most of the settings or the characters - a problem I find I have with most short stories, if I’m being honest. The only one in this collection that did actually scare and intrigue me was The Mezzotint, and it was actually incredibly creepy. I think that the setting and the story worked perfectly well for a short story. I think if you’re interested in classic ghost stories or short story collections, you should give this a try! 👻✨👻✨👻 Ghost Stories of an Antiquary is book 105 for 2020. #bookstragram #books #booksofinstagram #booklover #bookphoto #reading #aussieswhoread #avidreader #bookwhore #aussiereader #bookdragon #reader #readersofig #booksofig #bookcommunity #bookish #bibliophile #readersofinstagram #bookstagrammer #booklife #bookaddict #girlswhoread #readinggoals2020 #auskiwibooksta #bookquote #ghoststoriesofanantiquary #mrjamesauthor #classichorrorstories #shortstorycollection #collinsclassics https://www.instagram.com/p/CJBJaLEAe1T/?igshid=10h9apnsxbqpx
