PBS Kids Shows I Have Nostalgia For
Sesame Street (don’t @ me, it was the only thing on at 7:00 am or whenever the heck I’d wake up for school)
Super Why! (didn’t mind it. The pea girl actually inspired one of my current EAH OCs)
The Magic School Bus (duh)
Bill Nye the Science Guy (duh again)
Arthur (not my fav, but a classic)
Clifford (I was OBSESSED with the movie as a kid)
Liberty’s Kids (my dad showed it to us via YouTube. It’s amazing)
Curious George (didn’t like it as much, but it was on all the damn time, so I still remember a lot about it. Now I feel a tad bit of nostalgia for it)
Word Girl (not my fav for SOME REASON. Love it upon rewatching it. Still loved the villains as a kid)
Word World (rarely watched it, but sometimes caught it, and it facinated me)
Martha Speaks (yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhh baby now we’re talking. Mainly my sib’s fav, but I grew to love it, and we named our dog Martha. I also have most of the theme song memorized)
Sid the Science Kid (hated it, but I had a short attention span, so I would watch it anyways. Might’ve had a crush on the teacher. I liked the repetative formula. I still remember the germs episode)
The Electric Company (2009) (underrated. Facinated by the lore. Love the opening. Cried when it was cancelled)
Dinosaur Train (same feelings as Curious George)
The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That (I found it both annoying and fun)
Wild Kratts (FUCK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! >:DDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!! This show was my special interest for years. It goes hard. My dad still makes references to it. We memorized the theme song. I love this show so much. Martin was my biggest crush at the time. I would die for this show)
Odd Squad (Masterpiece. Can’t get enough of it. Didn’t watch every season, but still love it to death. Bought the movie and I still watch it sometimes. Mom loves it too. Me and my sib would never miss an episode. I still remember the premiere. We were eating breakfast in front of the tv, when a new show came on. “Huh, must be a new show,” my mom said. We decided to just sit through it and watch the first episode. And oh boy, by the time it ended, I decided that I was gonna watch this show every morning and Wild Kratts every afternoon. And that’s how it all began. Still need to finish the series)
~~~~~
So yeah, I was a huge PBS Kids kid growing up. Didn’t have cable, and I’m honestly glad, because then I wouldn’t have had all these growing up. And I’m so glad I had them.
Propaganda Below
Google: "A goofy group of animals are 'WordFriends' that teach preschool kids how to solve problems by building the right word. They journey on funny adventures together discovering that letters form words and that words have meanings. Characters like brainiac Frog and fun-loving Dog learn the alphabet on "WordWorld.""
I was like a self taught handicraft artist, you walked through my heart's congested street, bargained for the biggest apartment, i ruptured the clots to make space.
leaving meant shutdown and you didn't care. My sadness was handmade by me - my poems were the exibition of my tears, Everyone was in awe but no one felt sorry.
Whomstever Itspeeebs is, how absolute dare you rank Sagwa and Zoboomafoo so low.
Sagwa was teaching us Mandarin way before Firefly. Zoboomafoo introduced us to the Ring-Tailed Lemur YEARS before King Julien graced our movie screens.
The shows chosen and ranked seem rather arbitrary. Missing: Wishbone, The Magic School Bus, Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?, Sid the Science Kid, and Word World.
Objection. Objections all ‘round.
I have some serious questions about this show's world
Tumblr media
Where do the letters even come from? Are they naturally occurring or are they man made? i mean, the sun is a word so letters have to be a natural resource, but we also see characters construct words out of sand? how does that even work?? How does the word world determine what is a letter and what isnt? if you combined some natural letters and man-made letters into one word, would that work? Does the word world only work with the English alphabet, or can it work with non-Romanized scripts like Japanese or Arabic? If i were to spell "Duck" in Spanish, would the duck speak Spanish?
How is it that when you spell out a word, there are just parts of that object that aren't made of letters? Like if you were to spell out "Cake" the cake itself would be made of letters, but the frosting and strawberries on the cake would not be made of letters. When you spell "Goat" the goat's horns are not letters. Heck, there are even just parts of the word world that are just not made of letter. If we remove the goat's horn, is it its own thing, or is it just a part of the goat? if you were to spell out "strawberry" to get a word strawberry, and took a non-word strawberry from the cake, would the word world citizens notice the difference? would there be a difference outside of visuals? would word strawberry be more "real" than non-word strawberry? What are the non-word parts of word world made of? are they still made up of letters, just really small ones? are the made up of atoms? would the atoms be made up of letters? where would those letters even come from? are those letters made up of even smaller particles or are letters just the smallest bit of matter possible in this universe? would that mean that the bigger letters are, themselves, made of even smaller letters?
When you spell out the word "House" it looks like the word house. If you were to spell out the word "Wood" and built a house with that wood, would the house be constrained into looking like the word, or could you make the house look like whatever you want? if you were to spell out the individual ingredients for a pie and baked them, would the pie be word or just a normal looking pie? would a baked pie taste better than a pie that was just spelled out?
Would you be able to use things that kinda look like letters in place of letters? could you use a U-shaped magnet as a U? would the word world know what you're trying to do? Would Word World stop it or let it happen? what would happen if you took a donut and used it as the O in the word "Donut"? What if you take that donut donut and used it as the O in another donut? how far could you go with that? what if you had a capital I and tried to use it as a lowercase l? what about using an N on its side as a Z? Would that work in this world?
If i spell out the title of a film, would that be considered piracy? if i spelled out the word "Money" would that be counterfeit? would there even be a need for money in the word world? i mean, if you want something, you just spell it out, no? There is absolutely nothing stopping word world civilians from living completely hedonistic lives.
What would happen if the word you spelled was not a noun, but a verb? what if you spelt and adjective? What if instead of spelling a concrete noun, you spelt an abstract concept like "Love"? how would the word world react to these circumstances?
In the show, words sometimes fall apart and stop being the object the word spelt. What would happen if you removed one letter from an object and then put it back? would that object just go on doing its thing or would it reset the object? what if the word you did that with was a sentient being like the Duck? If you removed the D from Duck and put it back would the Duck just go on as if nothing happened or would the Duck reset? what would resetting be like? would Duck lose all his memories of his friends? what if you removed the D from Duck, but replaced it with a different D? Would Duck even be the same Duck? what if you replaced ALL the letters in Duck one by one? Surely that would make a different Duck than we started with. What if we took the original Duck letters and respell Duck? Would that be the same Duck as before? Would both Ducks be identical, or would they have noticeable differences?
What if you took the Ant character, and added a P and an S to turn the Ant into Pants? Would the Pants contain the conscious or soul of the Ant, or would all that disappear into nothingness? where is the soul of word world civilians stored? is it stored in the letters or just conjured up whenever the letters just so happen to spell out the word of a conscious being? if you take the A from ant and used it to make a different conscious being, for this instance an Ape? would that A still hold parts of Ant's being? or would that consciousness just be... erased... replaced with a completely new Ape consciousness. what if after that, i removed the A from the Ape and gave it back to the Ant? would the Ant regain its original consciousness? would the Ape consciousness be retained. or would it just be... another completely new ant consciousness. Surely some of the soul must be in the letters, right?? but if that letter is used for a different conscious... surely some bit of the soul would be lost for that new consciousness. how long could you go on swapping letters before the original soul is just... gone...
completely replaced...
