Ambush at the Magistrate's Moon Gate

From 1910 until 1945, the Korean peninsula was annexed by the Japanese Empire and became a colonial territory known as Chōsen. Korean language, culture, cuisine, currency, folk traditions, and family customs were suppressed for an entire generation, and several million Korean people were forcibly relocated to Japan, Manchuria, Russia, and Southeast Asia to address labor shortages in the empire's industrial and agricultural sectors during WWII. Koreans were also recruited as prison guards and comfort women for the military, which remains a sore subject among nationalist scholars and revisionist historians in the present. The end of the war did not result in Korean autonomy or reunification, instead Korea was subdivided along the 38th parallel N and occupied by more foreign authorities (the Soviet Civil Administration in the North and the United States Army Military Government in the South) preceding the Korean War and our modern unresolved state of affairs.

First off I want you to know that this entire night I have been waking up every 2 hours in wait for this (only for it to have come out 4 hours ago). It has been a very frustrating night and I’m not going back to sleep now

Anyways, so new Legendary. To be completely honest I’m confused why some people are shocked. I mean I suppose I was only assuming it’d be a Legendary, they hadn’t officially said prior that it was going to be one, so maybe it’s just that I was convinced, but still

To be honest I can’t really make out much of a silhouette. I mean I think that’s her hair at the top, presumably cloud like, but I can’t really tell the bottom. I know there’s supposed to be something on the right, but I’m not sure what. To be honest, to me it looks like a bug with little lightning wings

One thing I can make out though is that she has some sort of ribbon thing around her, like what Lotus has (idk what they’re called)

My personal guess is that she’s going to have some basis on some sort of eastern mythology, or at least take inspiration, but I’m not sure what specifically. I don’t have extensive knowledge on mythology in that region of the world (or most mythology tbh, but I at least have some knowledge on European ones)

Edit: I think she’ll be based on something from Korean mythology specifically, because of the spear. And also because in my search to find what the ribbon thing is, I found that it might be a Korean thing? Or like, there’s some sort of Korean being that has those flowing ribbons. I’m not sure what specifically, I can only seem to get a word that seems to translate to “fairy” and doesn’t have an easy English translation, or is a transliteration like the spear thing. But I’m looking at 선녀 for reference. I don’t know if it’s accurate to what she is, I’m just going down a rabbit hole. And also as I translate/read this article I found, it seems to also be a thing in Chinese and Japanese culture, it just doesn’t have a clean translation into English

Also I think now I’ve made out that the two lightning bolts are the top and the bottom of her spear. Though granted I’m not sure that looks like the weapon she’s supposed to presumably have (I think it’s this, called a woldo and apparently translates to “moon blade”, which fits the criteria)

I mean maybe it works with the lightning bolt having two points? I’m not sure

Weapons are few and far between; though he is skilled in swordsmanship it isn't his favourite method of combat. Too close, too clumsy in his height and comfort.

He is taller than most opponents, and he is smaller than the greater of beasts, but his weapon shouldn't make him step into their comfort levels of battle thus, the distance, the stretch, the reach, the swing - he adores the radius of carnage he can make with the extension of his arm.

Polearms are Beo's obsession. He challenges any other polearm user easily to see how talented they are with himself. He learns in every battle taken, asked masters of their crafts in foreign lands to train him in just one of their favourite moves or something of their literature about the weapon, as some schools of arts do not share their tactics for all manners of purposes.

Still, Beo is a man that shows his love for the polearm through his methods.

He is very fond of tridents, Sarissa's, the Dagger axe, the Eastern Ji, Gliave, Yari and Woldo - to name just a few.

He's also been blessed with the opportunity at times to make his own spears by blacksmiths.

Their gaze follows the path the wind carves through the quivering grass, stopping only once it alights on a familiar figure standing like a slash of inkstroke against the encroaching dusk. One of their elongated ears flicks. They straighten. The woldo gripped in the hand not wrapped in overlapping talismans lowers until its curved blade nearly kisses the ground. The barest hint of a smile tugs at their lips.

      "Out for another hunt tonight?" they ask, foregoing any true greeting but offering a modest dip of the head nonetheless. That slight smile widens imperceptibly. "If it's another case of a local begging for protection against me, then I'll earnestly apologize for causing you trouble again." Another scream slashes through the thin veil of peace. The dokkaebi's rectangular pupils shrink to vertical slits. Their gaze doesn't leave his face. "That sounds far more troublesome than me, though."

does Ahri has tattoos in her modern verse? I saw the photo u put in your carrd, so I was v curious 🥺

aww hi nonnie! modern ahri doesn't, aside from perhaps a few small tattoos here & there that aren't of much note. that image is more for the aesthetic than anything, i thought it was pretty hehe. while we're talking tattoos, however, i'll remind everyone that her challenger au does in fact have tattoos!

i'll also take this as a chance to expand on her challenger au a little bit more since i haven't spoken on it in a very long time, and it's one of my favorite au's despite never getting the chance to write it . . .

challenger ahri is based off of the season start skin line, but since there's no actual lore embedded in them, i made my own!

in this au, she is the definition of apex predator. as a young fox, ahri embraces the part of her that is monstrous and greedy, incapable of being loved; only seen as a violent creature. her vitriol for herself and the perception others have placed on her is channeled into honing her fighting abilities, but not as the elegant, cunning and masterfully magic self we all know, who dips in and out of the spirit realm as she pleases. no, this ahri is all claw and steel.

one day, she would enter a fierce battle with an ionian warrior who'd taunted her, making claims of slicing her tails and adorning them as trophies. the man was the lover of a woman she'd consumed. enraged, he made claims of her monstrosity and villainy, swearing to cut her down. although ahri was exceptionally powerful, the battle was long and arduous━━━her shame and grief gnarled and twisted into rage, into survival, into knowing that she could not be better than this.

as the sun set behind them, ahri finally laid claw into the man, striking his heart. it was over. drenched in the blood of victory, ahri caught sight of his woldo blade glinting in the light, and took it up as her own: a trophy, or rather, a reminder of who she was and what she was capable of.

from there, ahri set out to master the art of swordsmanship, her combat style taking great inspiration from the fluidity of traditional geommu 「 korean sword dancing 」 . she would become heavily tattooed over time & cut her hair short with her own blade, allowing it to sit just at her shoulders.

she would also adorn an intricate fox mask to hide her monstrous identity from the world. they would know not her face, but her actions. beneath, unique markings were painted 'pon her visage. over time, this ahri would subsequently become known as the ❛ DEMON FOX OF SMOKE & ASH ❜ , as she learned to imbue her moon - blade with spirit flame, rendering anything she cut down into just that: smoke and ash.

this is actually one of my favorite au's, because i think she's so cool in it . . . she fully embraces the monster within and extends it to the blade, cutting down all those who dare to hunt the demon fox as their prized trophy. she's all vitriol, bite, bitterness and complete loneliness, stifled guilt, and the constant urge to cry choking you. she's the fox who wants to be loved, but at every corner, the world only wishes to harm her and take from her. so she turns back on it.

as a side note, all of her tattoos are from the real life korean tattoo artist sion kwak, i recommend checking out their work because it's all very, very cool.

From a new WIP fic set when Seong Mi-na is taught by Kong Xiuqiang, Xianglian and Xianghua’s long-lost father.

In his dream, Kong cradled a small girl in his arms. Her little hands clung to his robe and pressed her cheek against his chest. He gently ran his fingers down her deep brown hair and dried her tears, but she sniffled and pouted.

With a trembling voice, she implored, “Bàba, don’t go.”

At dawn, he awoke with a pounding headache and Mi-na standing by with her woldo over her shoulder; her head tilted quizzically.

“I thought I heard you muttering in your sleep, uh, Master.”

I dreamt that I (as a human)was in a death match with a couple characters for like power or trust (or something, a title maybe). It was in a clearing in a forest, with boulders and elevation and such. I had with me a large Woldo (Korean Glaive; I had to look it up, because I remembered what it looked like, but not what it was called)

But the only contender I can remember is the weird Skeksis that I dueled. They were more dexterous (like they were in their prime; like SkekMal but it wasn’t him). for some reason would not die. Like, I had killed them multiple times (one of the times I split them in half) and they were somehow coming back. So I tried to run instead, because if I stopped I would die (death match). I ran through a forest trying to get away and ended up at a beach. I figure they couldn’t follow me in water, so before they could catch up I dove in. The moment I went underwater, I swam really fast and got a mermaid tail. Then I woke up.

My first thought upon waking up was “That’s not how Skeksis work” 🤣 But also, I don’t know how to properly wield a Woldo, so I don’t know where that cool badass is but I wish I was them.

im kinda mad at that post that was a cool video of someone with a guandao and then there were a bunch of screenshos of people being like ‘i love glaives’ or ‘i love fauchards’ and the like butterfly meme of ‘isthis a european polearm’ cause like . ok . a jian is very different from european swords. but like

a lot of polearms are the same fuckin thing, okay? so like. the ji, the dagger axe. that’s a pretty unique polearm. poleaxe, pretty unique. but like. and okay there are a few others. but basically every other polearm can be broken down into fairly similar categories all over the word . and like, come onnnn. you cannot act like a woldo or a naginata or a guandao or a podao or the thai one i think it’s the ngao? or a glaive or a fauchard or a sovnya or *some* bardiches or a couteau de breche are like. i mean they are different. but it’s like not that much of a difference. theyre all vaguely slashing polearms.

I've been fantasising with my friend how awesome it would be if we were Ascended irl. He started instantly ranting about how awesome it would be to become a one man army while i wanted more peacefull approach like some plant powers soo i could hide with Third World War survivors somewhere on far north and keep them safe and fed with my power there until the threat passes. This melted him a bit but in the end he decided that I would manage the society and he would conquer lands for us with pleasure.

Honestly I'm a little sad that he would probably become a Darkin material in case we were in Runeterra while i would hide from all the bullshit, but still nice!

Those standing guard of their communities certainly would not take pity on or show kindness to any unfamiliar faces tonight. She indicates the crackling fire a few paces away from her. "You're welcome to stay. I won't linger long." Too much ground to cover-- too many expectations to meet. "I won't mind traveling company tonight either. But it will be tiresome."
