Dustin was hanging out with Steve and Eddie, and Scooby-Doo was playing on the TV. Steve’s head was in Eddie's lap as he napped. (The quote from Supernatural is italicized.)
Dustin: Eddie, what would you do if someone stole your guitar?
Eddie: Murder. I'd murder 'em all. There'll be torture first. There'll be, like, a lot of torture. And then there'd - it would end up with death. If I can't have it. Nobody can.
Dustin: You can't even kill a spider. How do you expect to kill an entire person?
Eddie: Well, that's what I have Stevie for. Isn't that right, Stevie?
Steve: *waking up* huh?
Eddie: You would do anything for me, right?
Steve: I told you before the perk of dating me isn't me becoming your personal assassin.
Eddie: Aww, don't be like that. Wait. . . Dustin, why would you ask me that? Dusty, did someone steal my guitar? Dustin. . .Steve! Get your bat!
Steve: No.
Eddie: Kill for me. Do you hear me? Kill. For. Me.
Steve: *snoring*
Eddie: Damn it. He's asleep again.

I am so in love with House of Leaves, you guys
So early on in the book, I noticed larger-than-usual spaces. Sometimes this happens when you have italicized and justified text, and some fonts can exacerbate the effect. So I just figured I was being anal. that's my job, when I have one
At first, I thought this might be due to the wrapping text by Johnny Truant. See, there are three narrators in this story: an editor, who technically compiled and observes everything; Johnny Truant, the nickname of an author whose text is displayed in Courier or something of the sort, to imply it was typed on a typewriter; and Zampanò, who wrote a large manuscript on a nonexistent (?? OR IS IT ??) documentary. Truant has some particular quirks and has already admitted to altering Zampanò's text, as well as being an inveterate liar, just to add a layer of confusion. Every now and then his alterations are obvious--his insistence on using "of" instead of "have", for example.
So extra spaces and missing punctuation and breaks in tone put me on alert right away. Truant is very laissez-faire when it comes to grammar. It's just this asshole. Somehow. Probably.
And then commas started disappearing in a strange-ass way. And then dashes between words, usually adjectival phrases. And now it APPEARS that the chapter title and quote for a whole section is gone. Extra spaces are definitely occurring now, too--sometimes in places where one almost expects them (such as around em-dashes), but grammatically and stylistically speaking, it's just too much. It's too often. They weren't being used this way before. When you edit a text, you try to keep to certain styles, you know? Why were there no spaces around em-dashes earlier? Why here?
I'm fucking onto you, House of Leaves. Fuck you for rewarding my autistic bullshit. Now I'm notating everything. Fuck
I'm writing everything down in the book itself. Like I said, I'm reading this out loud to my mother. We read about 2-15 pages every night, depending on time and the complexity of the prose. I like to think that we are a part of the story. "This is not for you" fuck you, book, you can't keep me out of your bullshit

I've been so curious for so long, I can't hold back any more. Why do you put show titles in all caps?
It's a leftover from Xitter, which doesn't allow italics, which is the generally accepted way of formatting a TV show title, as opposed to an episode title (which should be in quotes). Since I couldn't italicize properly, I chose to allcap instead.
Tumblr doesn't have that problem, but old habits die hard.

Play-By-Blog #5: The Isle by Luke Gearing
Welcome to my ongoing play-by-blog of The Isle by Luke Gearing! We are playing this adventure with its original system, The Vanilla Game (adjusted somewhat to fit the format). You can check out the Play-By-Blog Repository to get all caught up if you wish.
How Play-By-Blog works:
I write up the situation, NPCs, and more, just like a DM.
You vote in the poll to help decide the character's course of action.
I roll the dice, resolve actions, and write them up next week.
So on and so forth for the rest of the adventure!
Notation:
[Text in brackets is out-of-character/GM text!] "Non-italicized quotes denote text from the original adventure!" "Italicized quotations denotes NPC dialogue."
Our character: Medon Girou - Magic Cutpurse
Our map: The Isle
[You can use the link's above to find Medon's Character Sheet and map of the Isle. On the map, you are currently at B.]
Now, back to the adventure!
Tumblr media
You continue watching the monk for a few more minutes. He is a capable fisherman, easily baiting his line and casting well (far better than you, anyway). He pulls a small fish up, dropping it in bucket resting near him on the jetty.
You feel like this may be your best chance at a favorable introduction with the monks, better to at least approach one and see, rather than face down the monastery itself. Still, best to keep your true purpose here quiet.
You step out from behind the rocky cliff side and holler down from the staircase leading down into the cove proper.
"Ho there! Beautiful day for it, isn't it?" It wasn't a beautiful day really, but it seemed nicer than most on this gray, wet rock.
The monk turns to you, surprised by the sudden noise and then shocked when he lays eyes on you and realizes you aren't a fellow monk. That you shouldn't be here at all.
He jumps to his feet, reaches into his robes, and looks towards the monastery, seeing the rocky cliff side of the cove blocking the building from his view entirely. He's too far from the others for them to hear him, but he yells anyway.
"INTRUDER!"
He draws a crooked fish-gutting knife out from under his robes. You can see a crude tattoo of a siren on his inner forearm. This monk carries himself like a sailor and one who certainly knows his way around a blade. [Reaction Roll: 3 - Violent]
[Initiative: 1 (Odd) - Enemies act first]
"I've seen your kind before. Here to put me and mine in the dirt, take our lord's wealth, put out the flame. Good luck then."
He rushes up at you, quickly scaling the short set of stairs leading up towards the path. Why couldn't you have followed a more elderly monk?
He swings in at you with the knife [Attack Roll: 5 (under AV of 10) - Success, Damage Roll: 5-1 (for small weapon) - 4 damage] and connects, slicing away at some of your traveling clothes, nearly striking a deep flesh wound [You have 3 Grit and 6 Flesh remaining]. You know that if you try to pull away from him, he'll strike at you again [This is called a Free Attack and you can do the same to him].
[Because you took damage this round, you cannot cast a spell due to the time and danger involved. You can do anything else though. For the purposes of the Play-By-Blog, I am going to create poll options that are overall goals for the combat - so we don't have to play out each round week-by-week.]
EDIT: [If you'd like to fight and subdue (but not kill) him, please vote for one of the Kill Him options and we'll adjudicate that in next week's poll - sadly, I can't alter the poll after the fact. Sorry for overlooking that option!]
[An exciting turn of events! See y'all next week! - Christian]

If Jungkook announced a stadium world tour today it would sell out before the day's done. That's the state of his success now*
It's not his success, it's BTS. Any member will sell a stadium no matter what they presented in this solo era. Army will buy tickets even if they don't like the music.
***
I'm going to spend this ask laughing at you.
This is exhibit 7∞ of what I mean when I say akgaes are just generally less intelligent people. It's why they're akgaes.
This is the quoted bit in full (bolded and italicized for emphasis):
"There's no success any BTS member can boast of that is inflated relative to Western artists. If Jungkook announced a stadium world tour today it would sell out before the day's done. That's the state of his success now..."
Like flat-earthers, all akgaes do is dumb down the conversation and set us back several years, because I'm now having to explain to someone I assume is an adult what subject continuation and transition looks like in a paragraph.
Anon, you probably already knew I'm saying any BTS member would have that success. Like, it's written there in plain English. But you couldn't stand to see it attributed to Jungkook, because you hate him that much. And I find that so hilarious but also sad tbh. Because it means life for you keeping up with a band like BTS must be miserable. Is the man you solo stan really worth the misery and frustration? Tell me, how is this really working for you?
Akgaes in general are just people so consumed with hate that common sense no longer applies. I mean we see this happen all the time when grown adults abandon their thinking faculties to show allegiance with political parties out of spite for the other, so it doesn't mean akgaes are that much dumber than everyone else, but it's sad that nothing is sacred, not even something as harmless as a music fandom is untouched from this mind disease.
Anon, whether ARMYs buy tickets for any BTS member's concert out of love for the music, or some other reason, is irrelevant. Obviously. Again, what's niggling at you is that you can't refute that Jungkook has a whole ARMY of fans who still love him and will in fact sell out his tour, the same as for any BTS member, you can't stand it so you look for any way to take away from it. Even if it means insulting your own fave in the process, because by your reasoning ARMYs will buy tickets for Jimin's concert even if they apparently hate his music.
Personally, I'm not sure why PJMs still follow me or haven't blocked me by now. All I do is laugh at y'all, and the few times I respond, like now, it's to humiliate you. So tell me, why are you still here? You can be honest - I promise I won't post it.

(yet another) rant: Please stop with the frivolous Trigger Warnings
(Note: If you want to skip the recipe blog intro and get to the actual important stuff, scroll down to the header that says, "Which Warning to Use on Your Post")
Sooo I made a text post that had a few words in capital letters mixed in for effect (the rest of the text was in standard formatting). Someone reblogged it with the tags "tw: all caps" and "tw: capital letters."
The existence of these tags, specifically in the form of a trigger warning, struck me as weird. I mean, I can see why someone might be uncomfortable with an all-caps text block, if they've dealt with abusive/angry capslocked emails or something, and I can see how large blocks of capitalized text could be difficult to read, and some users might prefer to avoid them. But...
Limited capitalization as emphasis (e.g. dropping OH WAIT in the middle of otherwise lower-case text to indicate a shift in tone) does not present the same issues as a solid block of capslocked text;
I have not encountered this tag in the plethora of posts that employ the meme/joke format of subverting standard case usage or alternating case (yes, the SpongeBob meme is a thing with an actual academic definition, and it also predates the existence of SpongeBob by some decades); and
Most importantly, while formatting definitely affects user experience and can be worth tagging for that reason, I wouldn't have escalated it to the level of a trigger, which is a term with a pretty specific definition:
The concept of ‘triggering’ describes the re-experiencing of unpleasant PTSD symptoms such as intrusive thoughts being evoked by exposure to materials which spark traumatic memories. Hence, content warnings have a long presence in psychiatric literature. [source: Typology of content warnings and trigger warnings: Systematic review]
(Full disclosure for anyone who hasn't already learned from reading my rants: I have a background in behavior science, so I'm all about scientific definitions and correct application of same.)
But I thought that maybe I was misinterpreting what was being tagged, and I like learning what I should tag in future posts, so I thought I'd look deeper into those tags and see if I was missing something.
Welp. It sure was educational.
Turns out there are established "trigger warnings" on Tumblr for all of the following (not a comprehensive list; these are just the ones I also saw when scrolling through the caps tags, since many of those posts had more than one thing tagged):
any text with two or more capital letters in sequence
any text in italics
any text underlined
any text in boldface
any text in a font other than the default
any text in a color other than the default (as well as tags for each individual color)
images in black and white
images in color (how dare color exist)
images with... subjectively brighter? colors
images without ALT text
posts containing emoji
and my favorite entry, which for obvious reasons I can't describe by the content it's supposedly protecting us from:
"tw just in case"
O_o
So... where to even begin.
I guess I'll get the promised rant out of the way (for those of you who prefer to stay positive, skip ahead two paragraphs): It's no wonder that much of society mocks the very concept of trigger warnings, when they're used this... I have to come right out and say frivolously. Heck, even I'm having trouble taking the greater Tumblr community seriously right in this moment, and I've been part of it for *mumble* years and practically live here. Who in the academic/corporate/entertainment/quote-unquote real world is going to honor a request for content warnings when they see that the """kids these days""" consider italicized text a psychological trigger they need to be protected from? And you can just imagine some dudebro saying, "Wow, these special snowflakes are so fragile they're even traumatized by seeing color, lulz. We should see what really freaks them out!" ...and that won't end well.
The obvious rebuttal to that point is to argue that these tags aren't intended for use by the outside world, most of which already thinks Tumblr died years ago. Not that this has ever stopped Twitter and Reddit and Facebook users from screenshotting Tumblr posts to claim ownership of mock before, but honestly the extra-Tumblr world is the less important concern here, so I won't labor that point. The more immediate issue is how this affects Tumblr users, the Tumblr community, and the experience we're all so proud of being able to curate for ourselves.
The critical point is this: Tags exist for Tumblr users to find things of interest and avoid things they don't want to see. Warnings exist for Tumblr users to protect themselves. Conflating the two can cause not only confusion, but the opposite of the desired effect of being able to curate your experience.
Please note that it is not wrong to tag any of the things listed above. By all means, tag everything in your post! Tag away! Tag your text formatting and images and colors! Use that whole tag space so people can find/not find your content as desired! But none of these things should be categorized as trigger warnings. Trigger warnings, content warnings, and tags are all separate things, and should be used appropriately so people know what to look for/avoid in a post.
Now, you may well ask: Why do the semantics matter? If something's tagged, why does it matter how it's tagged? Isn't it better to warn people about anything and everything that they might possibly not like?
For those affected by PTSD, trauma, phobias, anxiety, psychosis, optically-sensitive medical conditions, etc., being able to trust tags -- and the community's overall reliability where they are concerned -- can be critical to their health and well-being. When the community's tags become imprecise, sloppy, or unspecified -- for example, when people start throwing tags like "tw just in case" on their posts instead of actually describing what is in the post -- it becomes unpleasant or even dangerous for those people to exist in that community. And although doubtless well-intentioned, the kind of overzealous helicopter tagging that labels things like text formatting or the presence of emoji as a trigger does two things: First, it can confuse filters and sandbag search results (for search purposes, tags are treated like a word bank, rather than individual line items). Second, it fosters a general lack of regard for real, life-threatening triggers. If Tumblr users get used to seeing every tiny little thing called out as a "trigger" -- trigger warning, there's a picture of a bird in this post! trigger warning, I can't spell so there's probably a word misspelled in this post! trigger warning, someone used a heart emoji in this post! trigger warning, here's a photo with the color orange in it! trigger warning, there's a banana in this post! Self image trigger warning, I'm having the worst hair day, lol! j/k! -- then subconsciously, "trigger warning" becomes synonymous with "lots of things random people find mildly annoying, so tag stuff if you happen to think of it" instead of "a few important things we should be diligent about tagging because someone's life might quite literally depend on it."
I know categorizing tags can be confusing, and in recent years there hasn't been much consistency in usage on Tumblr, so here's a cheat sheet to help you decide what warnings to use (and to be clear, I didn't make these up; these are sourced from academic literature and teaching guides, and were -- back in the Olden Days -- also more widely used on Tumblr.)
For a more thorough description of the most common types of content to post warnings about, see this PDF.
Which Warning to Use on Your Post:
Trigger warning (TW): Used to denote content that may trigger a PTSD episode, a severe psychological reaction, or a physiological reaction due to a medical condition (e.g. epilepsy). Broadly speaking, this warning is intended to mitigate risks that may exist because of a viewer's personal experience and/or medical status. Examples of things that should be tagged TW: sexual violence; child abuse; flashing gifs
Content warning (CW): Used to denote sensitive material that may make viewers uncomfortable or upset, or that some viewers may prefer not to see, but not necessarily invoke a traumatic personal experience. Broadly speaking, this warning is concerned with a viewer's comfort level. This can include general concepts (e.g. discussion of homophobia) as well as specific instances (e.g. use of homophobic language). Examples of things that should be tagged CW: racism; nudity; death
Descriptive tags (not warnings): Used to describe the content of a post, without value judgment, so that it is searchable and/or avoidable. (And also to write rambling comma-free essays, because Tumblr is just Like That. But that's a whole separate thing.) Examples of things that can be (generally) tagged: the themes or topics being discussed; black and white images; capitalized text; insects; the color green; memes; rainbows; digital art; literally anything else that appears in your post
Can people still dislike/be upset by things that aren't on a broadly-accepted TW/CW list? Absolutely. But that's not quite the same as a trigger, and that's why we also have general tags.
Here's an example of the difference between disliking or being triggered by content (source: "The right way to use a Trigger Warning," emphasis mine):
Trigger Warnings are here to prevent people who have experienced traumatic experiences to be exposed to something that might trigger a physical and/or mental reaction. Trigger is the key word here. “Trigger*” is used to talk about PTSD and mental illness. “Triggered” and “offended/upset” are not the same concept. I can be upset if I see a picture of a beautiful cake because I cannot bake, but it won’t trigger a post-traumatic reaction.
You aren't going to be able to anticipate every single person's likes and dislikes, phobias, emotional associations, and so on. There's a temptation to try to cover every base imaginable, but that's actually... less than helpful. Actively unhelpful, in some cases. In addition to the reasons I cited earlier, here's an example of how "I'll tag it just in case someone doesn't like a thing" warnings can be confusing:
Let's say I have two followers: WingHater96 has a deep phobia of butterflies, while ButterSuperFly78 adores butterflies. Tagging a post "butterflies" helps them both navigate my feed more efficiently: WingHater96 can block the entire "butterfly" tag, while ButterSuperFly78 can search for it.
However, let's say I tagged that post in the form of a warning like "tw: butterflies" and hid it below a Read More just in case someone following me didn't like butterflies. WingHater96 would still have that post blocked, because it contains the word "butterfly" in the tag. It would also still appear in ButterSuperFly78's search results for the same reason -- the presence of the warning doesn't affect search results at all. But when ButterSuperFly78 sees the warning tag, they might now be confused about whether the post is full of pretty butterfly photography (which they would like to see), or if maybe the reason I put a warning on it is because it's about butterflies being harmed, because why else would you warn someone about butterflies when they're the best things ever? But wait, does OP know that they're the best things ever? Is the warning there because OP secretly hates butterflies?? Do they need to unfollow OP now because they're a butterfly-hater??? and ButterSuperFly78 would not know whether to view the post or scroll past until they psychoanalyze me to determine my personal feelings on butterflies.
Adding the warning provided zero additional benefit for the person who already had the tagged thing blocked, but it caused additional problems for the person actively seeking out that thing.
Obviously this is a bit exaggerated (...though, speaking from experience, only a bit), but it's a lot more efficient to just list the things that are in a post in the tags without framing them as warnings. That way, people with different likes and dislikes can curate their own experience more easily, and know to take trigger and content warnings more seriously when they DO appear.
-
TL;DR Trigger warnings exist to help people avoid PTSD or adverse psychological/physiological reactions. Casually throwing the word "trigger" in front of things that are not triggers makes people stop taking the need for warnings seriously, and can confuse people trying to curate their Tumblr experience. Reserve TW and CW for actual triggers/sensitive content and use standard tags for other things.

Do you know why comics do the emphasis (bolding) all the time? I don't know how it is for other readers, but to me it makes everything read so sarcastic or deceptive, that, or it's on a word that throws off my entire reading and makes no sense to be. Like on the "thanks for letting me stop by" you just posted (at least i think this was the wording, I am on mobile can't check while writing an ask). Like, why put a stress on the by? It feels weird? Is it just me?
(since you post comic quotes i thought you might read them a lot and possibly know, please don't feel obligated to answer)
Hello, I believe that comics as a medium is harder to convey emotions through the text, hence the heavier emphasis on words through bolded text.
Unlike books and movies, comics rely primarily on the artist and text to tell the story and show the character’s emotions. In a book, you can describe the tone of voice and emotions. And in a movie (be it cartoon or live-action), the voice actor can sufficiently express the character's emotions.
That being said, this “emphasis” varies from writer to writer. I have read comics where there is hardly any bolded or italicized text (Like Robin 100-120 comics, I think? I forgot the issue numbers). And then I've read comics where there was too much bolded text and emphasis, so I think it really depends on each writer.
I do agree with you that sometimes it's unnecessary and makes no sense. There were several times when I considered omitting some of the bolded text while transcribing these quotes, but ultimately decided to keep it as it is.
(All this is just my personal opinion, but I hope it helps answer your question)

DTA First Read, Chapters 2-5 liveblog
Finally finished Week 1's chapters! Highlights, all in quote form with some comments italicized throughout and lengthier commentary at the end:
"To this day, he still isn't sure what he would have done if he was able to find Castiel's body in that reservoir; most of it is a blur of sleeping, eating, and searching that precluded anything like actual thought that only ended with Sam's insistence that he needed to stop, that maybe there wasn't a body to find." OKAY I am very glad we're getting this-Dean's s7 trauma worked out in these interesting ways
"for a second (only for a second) Dean feels a hot rush of bitter envy (of the Apocalypse, how fucked up is that?) because he's never been this to anyone, for anyone; no one's ever looked at him like this" I. Was. So. Fucked. by this line.
"If Dean needed him for something, Cas would show up. Late," he adds with a faint smile, almost affectionate, reminding him that Chuck is probably just as crazy as Cas these days. "But I'm pretty sure that was deliberate." "Dying of Croatoan is the least of our problems," Chuck answers with a snort. "Weird thing, international epidemics cause panic. Like mass panic, social breakdown, fragmentation revolution, any of that ring a bell?" I have got to admit this part was Something to read in 2022.
"Destiny is bullshit." "Destiny is a word far more vast than the definition would imply...sometimes, what you've become makes it impossible to see all potential paths. What you know limits what you believe can be achieved." "You can't believe that." YO this is the free will shit that I am here for exploring.
"We weren't always on speaking terms, but neither were we always...not on speaking terms." ohhhhhh
Commentary:
I highlighted approximately 75 quotes from this swath of chapters, and I also hit the part where I stopped reading before -- the very beginning of chapter 3, right before Chuck and Cas have their conversation about Dean and they go on the saving-Dean's-ashes mission. I DO NOT KNOW WHY I STOPPED GOOD LORD.
I think it's official that I'm in, now, and highly invested. I also realize how little I know about this fic beyond its basic premise and I am so stoked to see where the plot is going.
The Chuck/Cas dynamic is one that I'm very interested in, as well as exactly how Chuck's prophet-status will play out in both revelations of the past and in the current plotline.
The entire fucking scene where they get shitfaced and end up cuddling and then the immediate SHIFT in the morning after Dean takes a shower was such a sucker punch to my gut. "You seem to be under the impression that we have developed a bond due to excessive alcohol consumption while you shared your feelings in monotonous detail and I pretended to care." STOP.
The undercurrent of Sam's presence is both heartbreaking and comforting. I find fics where Sam is dead/permanently gone (as far as I currently know/expect) to be quite hard to read sometimes because either they ignore Dean's grief or else acknowledge it and it's all consuming and I am too Dean-coded to read it, but this story is treating Sam's presence with this tenderness that I am very grateful for. Dean is such a little SHIT to Cas (entirely warranted) and the layers of character interactions that happened to push their relationship forward in the span of 3 chapters is an absolute masterclass that kept me devouring it the entire time.
On to week 2! Chapters 6-10 liveblog coming later this week...follow the tag #camppodsquad!

There's a myriad of problems here.
First, while it's nice of Stark to FINALLY use his incredibly overpowered affinity, I still don't understand why he waited until they were in range of Dallas to do so. As soon as you have the trail, shoot out his Achilles tendons or his knees so he can't keep running. Tada! You catch up to him way faster now!
I'm going to continue harping on about using "notch" instead of "nock". Also, you don't draw back the entire bow, just the bowstring. And then there's the fact that Stark, a trained archer, calls the fletchings "feathers". Like, it's not technically wrong, but it does sound like the word choice of someone who doesn't actually understand archery.
Lastly, there should not be a comma after "Dallas" because what follows does not function as a dialogue tag. Moreover, the italicized text isn't actually formatted like internal monologue, which usually is framed with single quotes in this series.

Trigger/content warnings for: abuse
Tarot Journal for June 16, 2023 The Star Tarot Card Spread: A Tarot Spread for Hope and Healing
1 - Wound: The Sun. "You might have just stumbled upon a big discovery or revelation that's astonishing, amazing and helps you see things in a new and beautiful way. This new perspective is the result of your hard inner and outer work, and now it's time for the reward."
I think I knew?? The word "abusive" came into my mind from time to time, but always accompanied by "you're overreacting" or "but it's not always like this" or "really it's not so bad" or "well I did fuck up so..." and gaslighting myself into forgetting. My therapist helped me name it a few weeks ago and it's become the bell I can't un-ring - now that I know the word is real and someone outside myself sees it. It gives structure to my thoughts around the future and past.
2 - Guidance: Four of Swords (inverted). "...you have forgotten to take care of yourself. You are worn out, so take a break. Relax, close your eyes, meditate. Take a nap. Do what you need to in order to recharge."
Yeah that's fair ... I think the challenge here is figuring out what's actually self-care and what's not truly serving me. Like - making sure I'm checking in on myself "okay am I playing the sims for several hours after work every night because it's fun or because I don't want to feel things?"
3 - Grounding: Death (inverted). "Death is the moment of letting go. Maybe there's a memory that haunts you, or a thing you desperately want to believe about yourself and will into existence."
So, I'm not really a journal person? I forget and only use it once, or I get bored, or it becomes a 'vent' journal and I'm so worried about it being found that I stop using it. That being said, I also have a tendency to gaslight myself and forget the bad shit (is it a coping mechanism or some fun ADHD short-term memory effects? who fucking knows 🙃?) and so I found some password-locked note apps and am throwing things in there as they come up. Even 2 weeks in, I'm finding that reading back some of these entries I've already forgotten the incident - I think that's really valuable and may help keep me focused on the reality of this situation, not the wishful thinking.
4 - Inspiration: Knight of Wands. "This Knight is all action and doesn't spare any time to stop and think. They pursue their goals singularly and recklessly; their unstoppable passion is inspiring but comes with risks."
Seems legit. I think taking action, taking baby steps is really empowering and creates momentum. But I also want to be careful and be patient and thoughtful while I process things, and make sure I'm comfortable with a decision before I make it.
5 - Blessing: Five of Cups. "It's okay to feel defeated and mourn. Sadness is part of the process."
Why this is a blessing: I'm okay with feeling uncomfortable things. That's w i l d. I'm (at least right now) taking things in, not just wash over me as "part of the scenery" or something. This isn't normal, this isn't okay, and I'm not okay with what's happening - recognizing that is HUGE for me.
6 - Wish: Ace of Cups (inverted). "...your cup is so full it spills out into a pool below. You'll feel yourself filled with radiant positivity, happiness and joy."

Deck: Modern Witch by Lisa Sterle. Italicized quotes are from the accompanying book.
A note about inverted cards - I am for the most part using the upright interpretations as I build comfort and familiarity with reading tarot.
I am not looking for advice about abusive situations. I know my situation and the context surrounding it. This journal is focused on using the medium (pun not intended) of tarot to think through things for myself.

Theatre Shenanigans
I'm stage managing for my college's production of SchoolHouse Rock Live!, and just in the first few rehearsals we've made a wonderful collection of quotes. (italicized is actual scripted lines)
---
Cast: *singing* Mother Necessity, where would we be?
Music Director: On measure 25, that's where we'd be
---
Dina, (about Lolly, Lolly Lolly): This seems a lot like child exploitation, where are the labor laws?
Stage Manager: It also seems like a terrible business strategy. How do they make money if all the adverbs are free?
---
Tom: George? What are we waiting for?
George: The President
Tom: You mean Joe?
George: No, Joe is backstage. I mean Bill
Tom: Bill?
George: That's me!
---
Tom: Listen to all those congressmen arguing. Is all that discussion and debate about you?
George: Lol no. They still can't decide which Republican they hate the least
---
Dina: Do you realize how many pronouns you just used?
Dori: Enough to put a conservative into a coma!
---
Music Director: So, there's a note in the script that we can change the lyrics about Pluto, since it's not actually-
Dina: Hold the fuck up!
Joe: Oh, absolutely not. I don't care what the astronomers or whoever the hell say
Assistant Stage Manager: I took an astronomy class, I know why its not considered a planet, and I still think they're dumb
Music Director: ...okay. Got it. Not changing the lyrics
---
George: Darn! You just lost the game!
Tom: Aw god damn, now you made me lose the game
Everyone: Noooo please, now we've all lost the game!
---
Dina *singing*: He worked hard and pulled the switch, he was smart...
Shulie *yelling*: And a bitch!
---
(and now for my personal favorite)
Dina *singing*: So when you're happy-
All (including the directors) *shouting*: Fuck!
Dina: Or sad...
All: Fuck!
Dina: Or frightened...
All: Fuck!
Dina: Or mad...
All: Fuck!
Dina: Or excited...
All: Fuck!
Dina: Or glad...
All: Fuck!

ruth/melanie with 12 please
Thanks for the prompt! This was fun to write. This is taking place in S2 before Melanie leaves for the research station and Layton is still on the fence about letting Ruth know about the plans to mobilize against Wilford. Ruth's train of thought is italicized. More under the cut :]
12. things you said when you thought i was asleep
"I just don't think it's a good idea, Layton," Ruth heard Melanie's voice in a hushed whisper. Ruth opened an eye briefly to see Melanie sitting at her small table beside her bed, talking into the wired phone in her room.
This used to be a regular occurence, Melanie sneaking into her room like this, before Wilford. Before she learned that her best friend had been lying to her for seven odd years. And while she was still angry, it was nice, Ruth thought to herself.
"Well why not? It'll cause us a lot more trouble if we tell her about what we want to do. You know how she feels about Wilford." Layton rebuttled. Melanie could almost feel the man's eyebrows furrowing through the phone.
Christ. What's all this about? Surely they weren't talking about her, were they?
Mel exhaled. "Ruth is not the kind of person you want to keep things from. I promise you. She's loyal to a fault." Melanie muttered, crossing her legs and glancing at Ruth once more. Sound asleep, she assumed - Ruth was a heavy sleeper, from what she'd witnessed. "You want her on our team."
On our team? I wasn't on anyone's bloody team. I was kept in the dark for seven years.
"That's your reasoning? Is there something you're not telling me, Melanie?" Layton sounded puzzled.
Melanie licked her lips, exhaling. "Look. I can't continue keeping these secrets though, Layton. I - we - can't lie to her. I hurt her, I don't want to have to do that again."
Don't want to hurt me again? I would sure hope not. Does she really care about me that much?
"Ah. So that's the ulterior motive." Layton hummed. Melanie could nearly hear him smirking, even though he was trains away. He was cocky sometimes, and she hated it.
Melanie rolled her eyes, stretching out her legs for a moment. "I just want to protect the people I love."
Love?
Ruth's heart was racing. She wanted to interrupt Melanie, to ask her what exactly she had meant by that - but she physically bit her tongue, pretending to snooze away.
"Well, I can't make any promises. I have to do what's best for the train now. I'm sure you understand that." Layton said cooly. Melanie, gritting her teeth, hung up the phone; it took a lot of self control to not slam the phone onto its dock out of frustration, but she didn't want to disturb Ruth's slumber.
Ruth, trying her best to act natural, began to "wake" up, stretching in her bed. Melanie perked up at this, folding her hands in her lap.
"Ah. You're awake." Melanie looked at Ruth with a slight smile. There's no way she could have heard any of that conversation, right?
"I'm just here to check in on you. How are you feeling?" Melanie continued, watching the blonde as she sat up in her bed.
"Well, I dunno. I guess just fine for a gal who found out that her mate pulled off the biggest lie for seven years and it was right underneath her nose the whole time." Ruth rubbed her face tiredly.
Melanie sighed softly. She didn't expect Ruth to come around to her anytime soon, by any means - she just missed the way things were.
"I'm sorry." Melanie said quietly, getting out of her chair to sit on the edge of Ruth's bed. "I didn't like what I had to do, but I hope that at some point, you'll come to understand why I had to do it."
Ruth pursed her lips, eyes scanning over the raven haired woman. Ruth could tell how tired she was. Thinking about how she wanted to pull Mel closer to her so that they could just rest together - but she also wanted to slap the bloody woman for keeping such a big secret from her. Feelings were confusing.
"But... you won't be keeping any more secrets from me, right? Cause you want to protect the people you love?" Ruth quoted what she'd overheard from earlier, just wanting to tease Melanie.
Mel felt her cheeks grow a little warm. "You heard that?" She tilted her head to the side, studying Ruth's smug expression.
"Just a smidge." Ruth replied, and Melanie flopped back on Ruth's bed, laying horizontically.
Ruth moved so that she was laying next to her. "I'm miles away from forgiving you. I think you've probably figured that out by now. But I want to be able to trust you enough to assume you wouldn't do anything like that again." Ruth said, and turned on her side so that she could have a better look at a flustered, frazzled Melanie.
"Can I ask that of you, Melanie?"
Mel turned on her side as well, the two of them facing each other.
"Yeah, Ruth. You can." Melanie murmured, scooting a little bit closer to the blonde, close enough so that their foreheads were touching. Even though it felt like her entire world was shifting, which it was - even though she was due to leave Alex, Ruth and the others to further her research at Breslauer, Ruth's presence brought her a sense of peace.
Even though she knew she wasn't being forgiven anytime soon.
