caretaker finds a terrified whumpee, covered in blood, and holding a knife.

this got a bit long and i kinda forgot about the 'terrified' part of it but i hope you enjoy! ive added a read more so it doesn't clog up feed

When Caretaker woke, the flat was quiet. At first they thought Whumpee was still asleep - which would be good, god knows they didn't sleep enough. Three hours passed, and Whumpee still hadn't appeared.

They didn't want to invade Whumpee's privacy (they'd had enough of that when they had been with Whumper), but Caretaker peeked into their bedroom.

"Fuck."

Whumpee's bed was empty. The sheets were a mess, still stained with sweat: probably from one of Whumpee's nightmares.

"Shit!" Caretaker said again, running to get their coat.

Outside there was still frost on the ground. Caretaker's breath misted in front of them as they tried to work out where Whumpee could be. There were alleys near the apartment block. That seemed like as good a place as any to start.

The first two were empty apart from the overflowing bins and rats. Caretaker was just about to leave the third when they heard a choked sob.

"Whumpee?" They asked cautiously, heading towards the bin where the sound had come from. Whumpee was curled up next to it, shaking and crying slightly. Caretaker gasped. There was blood all over whumpee. "Whumpee, what happened?"

Whumpee took a shaky breath, curling their legs in tighter. Then caretaker noticed the knife in their hand. The blade was stained red, still wet.

"You're going to hate me." Whumpee said, not looking at Caretaker.

"Just tell me what happened."

"I saw them." Whumpee's eyes seemed to glaze over as the talked. "In the supermarket yesterday. I don't think they noticed me but... It was easy to find them."

"Who? Whumpee - who did you see?" Who did you hurt? was what they meant to say. Whumpee looked at them, the fear replaced with burning hatred.

"Whumper."

Caretaker swallowed. They thought Whumper had been arrested - had told Whumpee that they had.

"Why didn't you tell me you saw them?"

"Because you'd just try and stop me."

"Where are they now?"

"It doesn't matter."

"Whumpee, tell me." Caretaker grabbed their shoulders and Whumpee flinched, shaking their head. "Did you... are they dead?" A small nod. "Jesus, Whumpee. Listen, you have to tell me where they are, if the police find out and-"

"I've taken care of it. I just want to go home."

Caretaker didn't want to know what Whumpee meant by 'take care of it'. They reminded themselves that Whumpee would know how to get rid of a body - or at least the evidence that they did it.

Caretaker nodded, helping Whumpee to their feet. They were shaking like a leaf, breaths short and erratic.

"Okay, it's okay. Let's just get you cleaned up."

Rage as Whump

Pain, fear, sadness - these are at the core of whump, but anger holds an equally important place. I don't just mean defiance towards whumper as an aspect of the narrative, I mean rage itself as a source of suffering.

Whumpee is shaking/screaming/sobbing with rage but unable to lash out at their target.

Whumpee has gone through years of resentment alone while the person who wronged them walks free, loved by everyone.

Whumpee being forced to act perfectly calm and content while socializing with the person they hate most.

Whumpee blacking out from rage.

Whumpee hysterical from rage.

Whumpee is capable of going berserk (either through supernatural powers or through just normal human force of will) and lashing out recklessly in a way that destroys their own body.

Whumpee risking their life for vengeance because it's all they have left.

Whumpee has a powerful sense of justice, and constantly feels a sense of "wrongness" about the way things are. It's always there, gnawing at the back of their mind.

Caretaker is going to help them get revenge.

Alright, so I love a Whumper that slowly and methodically breaks a Whumpee, as much as the next person.

But also... Angry Whumper who quite literally uses Whumpee as a punching bag. Short, (not) sweet, and straight to the point.

Maybe it's a once off thing, where a usually calmer Whumper, absolutely loses their cool due to whatever external factor(s), and takes that out on Whumpee. Slamming the door open to Whumpee's room, their enraged expression turning into a smile that stretches a little too wide as they approach.

Maybe Whumper has anger issues and regularly pays visits to their favorite little punching bag. Maybe that's the only reason why Whumper got Whumpee; just to use as a stress ball. Maybe Whumpee is something a little more; an unfortunate pet perhaps. Or maybe Whumper doesn't even care, their main goal was to torture Whumpee for whatever reason(s), and if they can take care of some stress while they're at it, then that's just a win-win scenario for Whumper.

Maybe one time Whumper releases Whumpee from their binds during a session. Whumper takes a step back, arms opening in an inviting gesture as they say, "Fight me. C'mon, I know you must want to, after everything I've put you through. Now's your time to get revenge, don't be shy."

And maybe Whumpee's wanting to use this opportunity to their advantage to try and escape, or maybe they're just a defiant little shit that's eager to get some payback. They land a solid blow either way.

...Only to regret it shortly after when Whumper's sadistic smile somehow grows even wider, and they proceed to beat Whumpee into a bloody pulp.

❄️ Magical cold/comfort

Fantasy hurt/comfort ideas no. 6

Deep in the woods, Whumpee gets injured and passes out. Caretaker carries them as they stumble through the snow, desperately looking for anyone who can help. Eventually they find a lone cabin with someone who is very surprised to have visitors. Whumpee wakes up wrapped in a blanket in front of a warm fire, their injuries treated with some sweet-smelling home remedies. Their head rests in Caretaker's lap as Caretaker gently strokes their hair. Whumpee dozes off again, listening to Caretaker explain their situation to the odd stranger who has taken them in.

Whumpee accidentally covers themself in frost while trying to practice some cold-related spell. Caretaker steps outside to find Whumpee on the ground, practically frozen solid. Caretaker is quick to bring them inside and seat them near the fire, bundle them up in layers of blankets, and make them something warm to eat. When Whumpee takes the meal with shivering hands, Caretaker presses them on why they were trying to practice that by themself. Whumpee's face turns red as they admit they were worried they weren't strong enough to protect Caretaker from Whumper.

Huddling for warmth combined with nonhuman parts, like wings, tails, long pointy ears, etc. Nonhuman Caretaker uses their wings to wrap Whumpee up like a blanket, hugging them tight as they wait for the snow storm to pass. Caretaker tries to thaw Nonhuman Whumpee's long ears by rubbing them with their hands or putting socks over them. Nonhuman Whumpee and Nonhuman Caretaker twist their tails together, rub their wings together, etc to try to warm up. This can vary a lot depending on what species Whumpee and Caretaker are.

Whumpee with fire magic thinks they'll be just fine venturing into the cold, but as they use more and more magic they start to exhaust their power. By the time they get home, their power is depleted and they're freezing cold. Or maybe they don't even make it home, passing out outside where Caretaker finds them and brings them inside. They groggily wake up in front of the fireplace, leaning against Caretaker on the couch. As soon as they're lucid enough, Caretaker scolds them and makes them promise not to be so careless.

Caretaker with ice magic or cold resistance underestimates how dangerous the cold can be to Whumpee. While outside foraging for potion ingredients or doing some quest in the snow, Caretaker assumes Whumpee is right behind them. But when they turn around, Whumpee isn't there. Caretaker frantically goes back along the trail, and finds Whumpee collapsed on the ground, a layer of frost already forming over them. Whatever they were doing would have to wait. For now, they had to find some way to warm Whumpee up.

Whumper freezes Whumpee in an ice crystal as a decoration or trophy. They use magic to keep Whumpee alive and conscious, even as they're completely frozen solid. When Caretaker finally gets Whumpee out of Whumper's lair and breaks them out of the ice, they want nothing more than to get revenge on Whumper. Still, that will have to wait until Whumpee's doing better. For now, Caretaker settles for warming Whumpee up with cuddles by the fireplace, squeezing them tight and promising them that Whumper will never hurt them again.

Caretaker is just chilling (no pun intended) in their house when a portal opens up. Their rival Whumpee collapses through it. Caretaker just barely catches them before they fall face-first on the floor. Whumpee is badly injured, soaked to the bone and shivering uncontrollably. Caretaker is just a little bit tempted to throw their rival back into the portal and close it behind them. Still, they reluctantly decide to warm Whumpee up and wait to do that until after they've recovered somewhat. Caretaker really wants Whumpee to tell them what happened. After all, as much as they dislike Whumpee, not even they would put them in this condition.

Possibly a continuation of the last prompt, rivals Caretaker and Whumpee bickering as Caretaker tries to warm Whumpee up. As they try to get the ice off with fire or a blow-dryer, Caretaker calls Whumpee an idiot. Whumpee's face turns redder, and they snap at Caretaker to shut up and get them another blanket. Caretaker makes Whumpee some hot tea to help thaw them out, but Whumpee refuses to drink it because it's too hot. Both of them want to cuddle, but neither wants to be the one to suggest it.

Ok ok so-

We all love our whumpee-turned-whumper and caretaker-turned-whumper BUT

HAVE WE CONSIDERED

Whumper-turned-whumpee and whumpee-turned-caretaker?

Idk I'm just obsessed with the idea of both of them being reluctant to fulfil their roles (ex-whumper doesn't want to accept help from ex-whumpee of all people and ex-whumpee still has nightmares, not that they would admit it)

But eventually someone budges, perhaps ex-whumper is in too much pain and practically begging, or ex-whumpee remembers what it feels like and is cursed with a strong moral compass and ultimately the roles are changed and it's a really awkward but almost therapeutic? situation.

Bonus points if ex-whumper is stuck recovering in ex-whumpee's house/apartment and learns all sorts of things about ex-whumpee that they never knew and begin to feel guilty for what they did because now ex-whumpee is a human making breakfast while scolding their pet with a bedroom full of model aeroplanes from when they were little.

I don’t know if it’s an ‘unpopular opinion’ but personally, I always prefer whumper-turned-whumpee to whumpee-turned-whumper, because I think the vulnerability of whumper the moment they turn from whumper to whumpee is just so… delicious? I mean, the angst, the feels, and obviously the whump. most of my writing is whumper-turned-whumpee, so I’m just so happy that you feel it too. (obviously, the classic whumpee-turned-whumper is also great, I love the moment where the character no longer has to endure all the wrongdoings that were done to them and gives themself a well-deserved revenge, but I’ll always have a soft spot for whumper-turned-whumpee.)

and yes to whumpee-turned-caretaker too, as well as the reluctance both parties go through while trying to fulfill their new roles. whumper-turned-whumpee not being able to understand why whumpee-turned-caretaker is helping them. but more importantly, they don’t understand why they’re given this kindness because, after everything they’ve done, they simply don’t think they deserve kindness. but I mean, apart from the high moral compass, maybe whumpee-turned-caretaker also sees good in whumper-turned-whumpee, knows there’s good inside them and refuses to give up on them the way everyone else did.

Whumper attaches a chip to the back of Whumpee's neck that gives them control of their nervous system.

Whumper only controls Whumpee's voice. No matter how hard they try, Whumpee can't say anything about them. Whumper forces them to lie to the cops and Caretaker. - Bonus if they have to say bad things about Caretaker and/or themselves instead.

Seeing through Whumpee's eyes, learning every secret about them.

Whumper controls Caretaker, but only occasionally and without a pattern. They black out when this happens, so one minute they can be cuddling them and the next they find Whumpee curled into a ball and covered in bruises.

Caretaker begs for Whumpee to stop hurting them, but they can't. The only thing they can control is their tears, which only increase as they stare at their friend's fresh corpse.

That moment where Whumpee falls to their knees and screams into the sky, clutching their head as they try to get Whumper out of it.

But that was better than being left alone and on their own now that they were weak. It was better.
