So I started this story with very cardboard cut-out ideas of these characters. They're both traumatized and this one deals with that by being reserved and angry, and the other one covers it all up with jokes and flirtations.

Simple, right?

But now that I'm over 27k into this story, I'm actually starting to get to know them. They grow, they develop different ways of communicating with each other and it's just fascinating. The story is getting so much better with each new facet I discover.

Man, I love discovery writing.
