Another very simple one, but it does the trick. I actually altered this one a fair bit from the original.  It said “I googled I hate ‘this person’ and it gave me 1000 results”.  So I was originally going to use that with someone googling Funshine’s name, with the idea being that he’s so annoying that it gets tons of results.  I kind of feel that would have been funnier. But, it’s hard to find shots of the Bears at computers, and I was thinking of using Grumpy, but I already do so many Grumpy/Funshine ones.   So instead I tried to find a shot of Good Luck, and the computer screen is messed up in this shot.  So I altered it to go with Bluster and I think that works better.

BPD Grumpy Bear
Reformatting this post from a previous post I made!
Tumblr media
I've watched only the recent care bears(unlock the magic) and I found it relateable that Grumpy had moments where he snapped at people he cared about or had his anger be more intense than he found manageable. As someone who has experienced similar things as a trauma response and still sometimes needs to be left alone when really angry so I don't inadvertantly hurt people, I related that to being similar to an aspect of my bpd.
more under the cut!
And grumpy's anger gets represented as a thundercloud due to his belly badge power which sometimes functions as an indicator of emotion. I sort of relate to not exactly knowing how you feel until it becomes visible or obvious, due to my alexithymia. Also he has one arc where because he was working on something that was important to him(Rain, Rain, Go Away), he didn't realise until later that he was frustrated and taking it out on others, which he then apologises for.
Tumblr media
He also appears to split on another character whos kind of like his friend/kid(?), (basically a young whiffle who joined the group and gravitated towards Grumpy) alternating between getting along with her and feeling very positive about her and then having times where due to frustration he wants to be left alone or gets upset at her(If it's Broke, Fix It).
He also shows similar emotions about the other characters he's close to and has a few taking accountability for the effects of his anger and doing his best to manage it type of arcs I suppose(Rain, Rain, Go Away and Sorry not Sorry). The latter episode also shows him to have difficulties with apologies which I relate to though thats due my aspd and npd rather than bpd.
Tumblr media
Also its not very noticeable but he has this thing where he feels the need to be alone usually due to being introvertedish or needing to work on something or due to intense emotions, but at the same time misses others when alone and seems to have doubts about himself. Sort of makes me think of the emptiness and possibly abandonment issues associated w bpd.
And in one episode he is shown to be likely the most suspicious of newcomers out of the care bears(Things That Go Plunk), and this suspicion towards others is something I relate to my bpd and trauma, more so the latter, as a hypervigilance type of thing.
Tumblr media
In one episode where his anger-formed thundercloud causes rain (Rain, Rain, Go Away) , the whiffles in the meadow where it rained(which as a result became messy and muddy and the plants got washed away), including Dibble(the one whos joined the care bears group), are upset at him.
Tumblr media
As a result, he thinks the best solution is pretending to always be happy and not prone to anger or frustration, basically the opposite of his usual personality, to the extent that his sense of self is eclipsed by his need to avoid anger. Its even physically shown by him sticking a sticky note with a smiley face on it over his belly badge and asking to be called Mr. Happyface.
Tumblr media
This I felt reminded me of bpd masking and having an unstable/variable sense of self. The storyline that results felt kind of iffy in that the other care bears try to make him angry so that it rains in an arid field in addition to telling him to be and accept himself. It felt like they were just trying to get him to make the raincloud at some points.
But at the end of the episode he also learns that its best to be himself and accept his emotions rather than pretend to be someone he's not which I feel can be similar to someone realising they're pwbpd and not feeling like they have to mask their bpd traits all the time. I guess I personally have been masking less since I realised Im pwbpd but also prefer to be left alone when some of the traits like intense anger show up due to that not always being safe for me to show around others.
Tumblr media
I will also definitely be making an addition here of the IDW comics arc he has because that felt very much like I related to it as someone with BPD. However when I made the initial post, I had not read the IDW utm comics (and in fact may not even have made my way through the entirety of season 1 at that time)
Okay, so, remember how Grumpy's cloud powers get more rain and storm like when he's frustrated or angry(and more unpredictable due to being in the silver lining)? I noticed a detail here in the comics where he's lifting cans with a cloud (as far as I remember he does not lift things with his clouds other than perhaps the entire cloudseeker, in the show) and as his mood changes the cloud turns gray and rainy.
Tumblr media
(for reference he starts off pretty burnt out already from fixing things in this issue. He just really needs a break.)
Tumblr media
There is a plot point here where Bluster, Robbie, and the bad crowd are messing with these mirrors that are supposed to show one's ideal self to make the mirrors show their worst self. They dress up as the worst possible selves of Grumpy, Cheer, Goodluck, and Funshine (as they are the ones who enter the 'funhouse' with the messed up mirrors).
Each bear has an arc where they overcome the negative perceptions of their worst reflection. Grumpy's 'reflection' shows up the earliest and he did not look at the normal mirrors which show ones ideal self first like the others did.
Tumblr media
Cheer, Goodluck, and Funshine all see past the illusion but realise Grumpy's still in the maze. At this point Cheer goes in to find him.
Tumblr media
I do very much connect this to having an unstable sense of self (which I experience due to my bpd and other neurodivergences). It also really shows how much he cares for his invention (The Cloudseeker) and Dibble. (Also side note huh. They can get oil from rainbowson mountains??? Interesting. )
Tumblr media
At this point, Cheer reassures Grumpy that the crew knows he's not turned to the bad crowd like Bluster and Robbie try to convince them (and him) he is. She also reminds him that they know he cares and I think it's really cool how her leadership skills are shown in this arc!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And at this point Grumpy breaks through the illusion with the help of Cheer. I find it to be a similar arc to Rain, Rain, Go Away in the acceptance of having grumpiness as an emotion though this is also Grumpy realising he matters to the people he cares about. And I think its nice that this arc is portrayed.
Tumblr media
At the end, Cheer also gives him this piece of glass from the funhouse for his souvenir hat to remind him of his true self, and that was another way Cheer's leadership skills and ability to reassure others was displayed.
Tumblr media
Finally, the arc ends with Grumpy seeing his ideal self in the nearby mirrors. I feel the comics mostly spoke for themselves thus I don't have all that much to add on here.

UTM AU IDEA?
OKAY SO WHAT IF THERE WAS AN AU WHERE ROBBIE FINALLY STANDS UP FOR HERSELF TO BLUSTER AND LEAVES TO FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO LIVE WHERE SHE CAN FINALLY MAKE THE RULES FOR HERSELF.
BUT SHE DOESN'T GO TO THE CARE BEARS FOR HELP AND REFUSES THE HELP TOO, BUT INSTEAD GOES TO HIDE IN THE SILVER LINING FOREST TO BECOME ONE WITH IT'S NATURE AND CREATE A HOME FOR HERSELF FROM SCRATCH, WITH THE WHIFFLES HELP, BY USING HER INTELLIGENCE AND BLUEPRINTS.
AND OVER TIME, SHE FINALLY HAS A HOME TO CALL HER OWN, WHICH IS MOSTLY DESIGNED BY HERSELF AND SHE BECOMES A SCIENTIST / INVENTOR.
SHE STOPS TRYING TO DESTROY THE SILVERLINING AND BECOMES VERY FACINATED INTO IT, AS SHE NEVER GOT THE CHANCE TO LOOK INTO IT BEFORE WHEN LIVING WITH BLUSTER. THEN STARTS CREATING INVENTIONS TO HELP THE WHIFFLES, AND ALSO FOR HERSELF OF COURSE, ONES SHE HAS BEEN DYING TO CREATE FOR AGES BUT COULDN'T BACK IN THE BAD CROWD.
AND INSTEAD OF WEARING A BLACK LEATHER JACKET, SHE WEARS A WHITE LABCOAT INSTEAD, THE CRACK IN HER GOGGLES HAVE BEEN FIXED, AND SHE GROWS A BIT MORE HAIR.
I ALSO WANT PLUNK TO COME BACK, AND HE BECOMES ROBBIE'S LITTLE SCIENTIST SIDEKICK, BUT HE ISN'T TREATED LIKE CRAP BY HER. ROBBIE IS FINALLY THE ONE IN CONTROL, BUT MAKES SURE NOT THE REPEAT WHAT BLUSTER DID WITH HER AND THE CROWD. (Plunk doesn't rly live with her, since he's got his own home, but he works with her as co-workers and visits her the most. They become besties.)
I'D ALSO LIKE TO THINK THE CARE BEARS VISIT SOMETIMES FROM CARE-A-LOT TO CHECK UP ON HER, BUT ONLY ON SPECIAL OCCASIONS BECAUSE SHE LIKES HER OWN SPACE AND SHE DOES THINGS A LOT DIFFERENT FROM THE CARE BEARS. BUT SHE WELCOMES THEM IN AND THEY SEE HOW HAPPIER SHE IS WITHOUT BLUSTER, AND SHE FINALLY KEEPS HER ROOM CLEAN CUZ SHE'S NO LONGER MENTALLY ILL. I ALSO WANT HER TO GET CLOSER WITH GRUMPY, SINCE GRUMPY IS THE ONLY CARE BEAR SHE CAN PROLLY FULLY TOLERATE SINCE HE DOESN'T PESTER HER ABOUT SUNSHINE, CUPCAKES AND RAINBOWS. HE FULLY UNDERSTANDS HER WAY OF LIVING, RESPECTS IT AND LEAVES HER TO IT. THEY CAN ALSO SHARE GADGET / INVENTION IDEAS TOO MWAHAHA
I am a huge enthusiast for mad scientists so she'd prolly have her own laboratory in the basement of her home and work on experiments / gadgets.
Also I'd like to think Bluster is homeless with barely nothing so he can't destroy the Silverlining again. He's probably living in a cave and eating wild plants or something. HE DOES TRY TO BEG ON HIS KNEES TO ROBBIE TO LET HIM LIVE WITH HER, BUT SHE'S LIKE: ''Naw bruh, you'll only boss me around again and mooch off my stuff. Here's some materials, go make your own home, squirt!''. SHE PROLLY LETS HIM VISIT SOMETIMES, BUT HE HAS TO GO BY HER HOUSE RULES, NOT HIS BUT SHE ISN'T MEAN ABOUT IT. THEY BOTH KINDA GET ON GOOD TERMS WITH EACHOTHER AGAIN, BUT NOT TO WHERE THEY WERE IN THE BEGUINNING, THEY BECOME MORE LIKE MUTUALS AND SHE REFUSES TO LET HIM LIVE WITH HER. BLUSTER HAS RUININED THEIR FRIENDSHIP TO EVER HAVE IT STRONG AGAIN. But that's prolly a few months or a year after she leaves the bad crew cuz he eventually finds out where she's living at.
And Malcom, I'm gonna give him the funniest future story ever. He's gonna have a wife and children and owns a huge company that makes something rly dumb, prolly like tooth brushes or massage chairs and he gets into co-operate greed in the care bears universe equivalent of New York. And Robbie's like: ''Lol, I saw that coming tbh. His eyes were always on the prize. Good for him I guess?'', whilst reading a news paper.
I'M PROLLY GONNA NAME THIS AU, Care Bears Beyond The Silverlining (Care Bears BTS for short)........ Uh oh... BTS... PFTYDFSUTGGJ BYE (Or maybe Care Bears BTSL)...

The Main Five - Seal The Magic
Well, six. If you count the little Whiffle guy
🌸The CloudSeeker Gang🌸
The CloudSeeker Gang consists of Cheer, Funshine, Grumpy, Good Luck, Share, and Dibble. While all knowing it’s a big risk, the CS Gang and Caring Control all agreed that the group needed to stay in The Silver Lining on a multi-year long mission to protect it. Even though they all miss their home Care a Lot, their work is absolutely crucial to the safety of The Silver Lining, Care a Lot, and even Earth.
Tumblr media
^Closer looks later in post      All of their arcs in this are inspired by things that actually happen in UTM. Some more obvious than others.
🌺Cheer Bear takes her role as leader very seriously, sometimes to a fault, and tries her absolute best to be a perfect commander for her team. She tries very hard to the point it can be draining, but keeps up her chipper attitude and manages to keep the group on track and upbeat. Though what the rest of the bears don’t realize is that the reason she takes her position with such pride is because she feels like she hasn’t truly earned it. Truth be told, she did get the job by being in the right place at the right time. Despite truly being a good leader, that fact looms over her any time she makes a mistake. Over the series she learns her talents and skill are truly there, and she slowly opens up and grows out of her imposter syndrome.
Additionally, because of her pride in her job, she ends up developing a large rivalry with Bluster. While she tries to be the bigger person about it…well it’s Bluster. We can all agree she deserves to cuss him out at least once.
🌺Funshine, despite not being able to drive, is the co-pilot of the group. Why did they decide that? Because what else is he gonna do. Even though at first glance it looks like he doesn’t do much for the group, he’s actually incredibly important to the group's personal well-being. His upbeat and care-free attitude keeps the crew happy during sour times, and he is essential to overall performances.
While the other bears go through one big arc, Funshine goes through two connected arcs. While he is a genuinely happy guy, Funshine doesn’t know how to process any of his negative emotions properly. Because of this he often goofs off when he’s not supposed to, and doesn’t take situations he should seriously. He doesn’t want to feel bad about work because he can’t process it, so he tries to turn it into a joke. This of course leads to things getting worse, more often than better.
Over the course of the series he learns how to process and open up about his emotions, and become a better teammate in the process.
🌺Share is the peacekeeper and negotiator of the group, and highly values her skill to keep things civil and calm. Her team however, do not have those same skills. While she doesn’t start off the series with this issue, she slowly develops a small feeling of superiority in the group. However, she feels incredibly guilty about it, and tries to push the feeling away.
(This arc is fully inspired by that once scene from One Wise Bear, but is supported by other moments in the show.)
After developing this idea (which honestly..she’s not really wrong. They do cause trouble a lot) she tries to ignore it, but of course that doesn’t make it go away. She learns to be open with emotions and eventually is honest with the group, which leads to them all becoming more on equal grounds. After this she also becomes more involved with the group itself instead of letting herself push herself away.
🌺Good Luck, the navigator’s, arc is probably the second simplest one here, being that he needs to learn to rely on his own skills instead of pure luck. The Silver Lining messing with their belly badges’ magic isn’t too detrimental for most bears. But for Good Luck it could be dangerous for him. While in Care a Lot he could do almost anything and it be fine, here he has to be much more careful and develop his own skills.
While in the silver lining he learns he can’t rely on fate, and takes more action to grow and becomes fully capable of his duty with or without his badge’s power.
🌺Grumpy Bear is the group’s mechanic who built The CloudSeeker itself, and definitely has the shortest actual arc in the show. He of course starts off as his usual Grumpy self, and stills ends the show that way, but does mellow out a bit. Mainly for the sake of raising Dibble. Though instead of accepting the role after one episode it takes a whole..wait for it…three.
….Yeah that Whiffle stole his heart. While he does mellow out a bit, he’s still easily annoyed and very sarcastic still. He’s definitely the most unchanged from the original show, but later on he actually plays an important role in another character’s arc.
🌺Dibble’s actual character is very unchanged, but her introduction is different. Instead of getting lost and the bears finding her by mistake, Dibble was actually going out of her way to find the bears. After the Bad Crowd attacked them for the first time in generations, Dibble escaped the raid and went looking for Care a Lot.
After this first battle is over, the bears decide to stay and protect The Silver Lining, and Dibble soon joins the mission.

6 and 69?
Thanks for the ask! From this ask game.
6. Can you remember what your parents used to read you before bedtime?
Holy shit, we could be here for days. My mom and dad alternated every night without fail (once we got into chapter books, they would each do a different book) and I was probably 12 or 13 by the time they stopped. It was an absolute nightly must-do in our family.
Here are some highlights off the top of my head:
Very young: Some of my more obscure favorites included Sparkle the Pony, Rosalind Sutton, Whiffle Squeek, Caron Cohen, and Bear Circus, William Pene Dubois (thanks for giving me a chance to look those up!)
A little older: The entire Wizard of Oz series, L. Frank Baum, and A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens.
A little older still: My Antonia, Willa Cather (dad) and Little Women, L.M. Alcott (mom, which I don't think we finished, but we tried).
69. Hear a spoiler of a book’s ending or never find out how it ends?
I honestly don't care that much about spoilers. I'll even seek them out sometimes or flip to the end of a book or a chapter. The element of surprise isn't really what I read a book for.

Ni modo, toco verse care bears en inglés (como que hay una segunda temporada?)
Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Contexto: Bluster tiene miedito y "invita" a los osos a quedarse (esta que llueve afuera) y Robbie está molesta por eso (no la entendí ni maíz lo que dijo pero su rostro dice más que mil palabras)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media

Obscure Animation Subject #86: Care Bears: Unlock the Magic
This is an attempt to bring Care Bears to a new generation, and has a more modern art style, reminiscent of other cute-looking productions of the time period. An American-Canadian collaboration between Cloudco Entertainment and Copernicus Studios, the show premiered on Boomerang on February 1, 2019, and despite having only one season so far, is still ongoing with six new specials in 2023. It’s the sixth series of the Care Bears franchise, but unlike previous incarnations, this is aimed at a bit of an older audience.
The series follows a group of Care Bears named Good Luck, Funshine, Cheer, Grumpy, and Share Bear, as they embark adventures in Care-A-Lot through the Silver Lining, a strange world neighbored by the Whiffles, who are a group of innocently happy creatures that plant seeds to keep the magical land of Care-A-Lot and the neighboring Silver Lining growing. The Care Bears spread caring and sharing throughout the land as they learn to rely on their friendship, courage, and use a bit of their belly badge power. However, the ego-driven nemesis, Bluster and his Bad Crowd, try to stop the bears from succeeding at their mission, as his goal is to turn the Silver Lining into Blusterland. The Care Bears also retrieve help through the Caring Tower from their friends Bedtime, Tenderheart, and Wish Bear. Dibble the Whiffle accompanies the Care Bears along the way. The Care Bears are sent on the road for the first time in this series, as they explore wonderful and never-before-seen areas that surround Care-A-Lot called the Silver Lining. Due to this, they meet new creatures and employ their powers and wits.
This premise does sound safe, but in execution, its actually pretty good. It has a wide range of stories which could range from the Bears trying to stop one of Bluster's schemes or simple slice-of-life tales where the Bears try to help a creature or the Whiffles with a problem they're having. This gives the show a verity of stories thanks to the show having a decent amount of talent writers. The humor is also pretty funny, especially with Bluster, whose perhaps my favorite character from the series for how funny and egotistical he is. The series is fast-paced, which helps it give more of an exciting boost, especially since its aimed at an older audience, although it does have the charm of previous shows and features good morals. The animation is also good, while it is done in flash, the movements are very fluid, and the backgrounds are even painted by hand!
The only complaint I have is that it has rather weak characterization, with most characters being two-dimensional and forgettable, and while Bluster is hilarious, he isn’t that threatening and just seems more harmless.
But overall though, I think this show is solid. It’s kinda safe with its characterization, but the stories are great, the animation is colorful and the humor is pretty funny. I do recommend checking this out even if your a non-Care Bears fan like me, because its actually fun.

Maybe Dibble the whiffle wearing her eyeglasses playing with her pen pal, Kirby… I bet they will have a play date at the brave daycare! And don’t forget about UTM Care-A-Lot Bear doing her karate with her karate headband around her head! That will nearly help us wait until Kirby’s Return To Dreamland Deluxe is released on the Nintendo Switch!
I'm only doing Care Bear collabs right now. I've never drawn Dibble before and haven't seen the show though I want to. I'm sure you could ask someone else. I didn't remember the Care-a-lot Bear doing karate request, I might do that if I feel like it. You definitely have interesting ideas.
It'll be exciting for you when that game does arrive on the switch, I'm waiting for BOTW Tears of the Kingdom.

Is unlock the magic supposed to be a continuation of adventures in care a lot or is it supposed to be standalone(have only watched utm btw) ? Because I was watching clips of Grumpy Bear (my favorite care bear!! <3) and noticed that in the first episode he mentions the care bears having helped kids on earth but its not shown onscreen?? Also how old are the care bears in adventures in care a lot? Their adventures in care a lot designs look like kids(and the wiki mentions they act younger in that show?) but in utm they seem like adults?
-Rift
So is one of those things that there’s no definite answer about.
I’ve seen some people try to come up with timelines of all of the different series and movies to try to figure out how they’re supposed to go chronologically. An different people have come up with different versions that make sense.
For me, though, I tend to prefer each as its own stand alone version. It’s kind of like the multi-verse in the latest Spider-Man movie….basically all of these universes are existing at the same time on their own in my eyes.
That’s why you never see any characters directly mention any of the other versions.
However, there are a few little Easter eggs in UtM that references the First Nelvana movie. But I view those as more of a little nod to that version from the creators, not part of the actual canon.
So when the UtM Bears mention helping kids on earth, I think they still do that just like in the other versions…we just don’t see it directly. But that’s been a part of every other Care Bears version, so I think they didn’t want to completely ignore it even though these Bears focus on the whiffles in the Silver Lining.
I’m not a huge AiC fan, but I also tend to view them as a little less mature…like kids, teens, or young adults.

What if the UTM version of Care Bears got hypnotized?
Hmmm.
A plot for an episode where hypnosis plays the main factor?
You might be on to something...
Say Bluster creates some sort of "hypno-ray", tests it out on some whiffles (because obviously bluster is the bad guy), then plans to use it against one of the bears, though i don't know what would be more entertaining, hypnotizing one of the bears? or Dibble?
Ooooh, and near the end, the hypno-ray would go haywire (via Care Bear Stare) and ends up zapping Robbie and Malcom, leaving Bluster on a cliffhanger note to fix it and change them back.
Just a thought.

What's the difference between Share Bear and Penny Ling?
I think this is the same anon as a while back, who asked some other lps and care bears question?
Anyways this ask makes me think of how similar they are actually. Not just in voice (although they are voiced by different voice actors they have a similar soft calm sort of voice I'd say)(also lps is notorious for voicing basically bipoc coded pet and bipoc human characters w white actors and thats what they did w Penny Ling too but thats another story- I just think its weird especially since they fake the accents) (and they hired a VA of Chinese descent to voice the Korean character Youngmee) (anyways. questionable casting authenticity aside)
They both seem to be kind and they like nature. Share additionally paints, and may have other hobbies also? At least in unlock the magic. Penny Ling is notably easily scared in some instances and may be shy at times, while Share is generally not. And Penny Ling is more affected by emotional distress, but I think unfortunately utm doesn't show Share have importance in the plots as much thus doesn't often show her in distress, except maybe times when she couldn't help others get along with each other.
I don't know how old the pets are supposed to be but I think Penny Ling just acts younger and less mature than Share Bear (I consider the cloudseeker crew bears to seem like they're in their 20's maybe, since they seem to handle adult responsibilities like going on their missions, taking care of the baby whiffle Dibble, and driving, etc. w the control room bears maybe 30-50 since their voices sound older and theyre implied to be old enough for cloudseeker crew to view them as parental figures)
I think Penny Ling may value connections with others more, as she is very excited to meet the pandas at the zoo. Its not that Share doesn't, but she just doesn't seem as openly interested in meeting new people. Share Bear is good at roller skating, and Penny Ling is good at dance and storytelling. I imagine Share Bear would not like pranks mostly because she would find them to be inconsiderate to others, whereas Penny Ling is more upset by pranks/comedy insulting others(as shown in some episode where Pepper does this).
I may not know entirely how to characterise Share Bear personally as I feel the show doesn't fully examine her personality and stuff, and mainly seems to have her in the show to mediate some conflicts or play a smaller role? I feel the show doesn't focus very much on her or Good Luck.
