The Batfam’s Pokémon Teams

Considering that I’ve already done the Justice League’s Pokémon teams and their enemies’ Pokémon teams, I thought to might as well give the batfam their teams. But since I already did Batman on the Justice League list, he will not be on the list.

Alfred Pennyworth

Indeedee (Male)- Alfred is most famously known as Batman's Butler, so giving him a butler pokemon would be both useful and helpful.

Leavanny- His day-to-day duties as the butler of Batman, Alfred is always repairing some type of clothing for the Batfam.

Drampa- It is commonly joked around in the community that Alfred is the one person in the batfam you do no want to mess around with. Drampa are known for their kind nature that comes with a destructive outcome if enraged or needing to protect the children it cares for which reflects Alfred a great deal.

Blissey- Another representative of Alfred's caring side.

Polteagheist- He's british and likes tea.

Inteleon- Alfred has a history in the military and being one of the few batfamily members to actually utilize a gun. Him having an Inteleon seemed like a No-Brainer to me.

Many of Alfred's pokemon were chosen simply because they could be found in Galar, which is the Pokemon equivalent of England. The exception of course being Leavanny, but it is still a fitting pokemon for him to have.

Nightwing

Hitmontop- This is a reference to Dick's beginnings as an acrobat in Haley's Circus. I can see this pokemon being one of Dick's first as he was given it when it was still a tyrogue.

Marowak- Both a nod to the fact that Dick is an orphan and how he covered for Batman.

Swellow- Visually speaking, Swellow slightly resembles Nightwing, especially if we're talking about his DCAU adaptation with the Mullet/Long Hair.

Rockruff- Yes, Haley is a shiny Rockruff with one leg.

Cyclizar- This was the last pokemon I had to come up with, and so my brain suddenly reminded me of Motor Cycle Monday from Teen Titans Go. Considering that Nightwing does use a motorcycle sometimes, this makes sense for him.

Greninja- A stealthy pokemon that relates to espionage in some way. Seems fitting for Nightwing during his time with Spyral during the New 52

I wanted to pay homage to everything well-known about Dick Grayson/Nightwing. With the exception of his bubble butt, his team references his time Haley's Circus, the fact he's an orphan and became batman, being Nightwing in General, and others.

Oracle/Batgirl

Swoobat- Considering her history of being used as just a love interest and not being regarded as an actual character, Barbara having a Swoobat felt like a decent choice.

Rotom- As Oracle, Barbara can hack and mess with enemy technology like how Rotom can infiltrate different machines.

Gardevoir- The reason I gave Barbara a gardevoir is sort of an edgy reason. Gardevoir's whole thing is that they are fiercely loyal to their trainers and will protect them at all cost. Now, what happened in the Killing Joke still happens in this universe, so that means that Bab's Gardevoir couldn't protect Babs. This would lead her Gardevour to become very depressed but overall determined to help her trainer more.

Mienshao- Barbara knows martial arts

Magnezone- Barbara is one of the most well-known (Idk if she was the first) person in the chair. So, her having a pokemon that can receive signals seems useful.

Venusaur- If you saw my Legion of Doom post, then you can recall that I gave Joker Toxicroak because of his adaptation in The Batman tv series. My choice in giving Babs a Venusaur is based on her relationship with Poison Ivy in that series. Not saying thats exactly the case in my HC universe however.

While some of the choices felt off even for me, overall I'm satisfied with what I did for Batgirl's pokemon team.

Red Hood

Old Team

Primeape- Many who think of Jason as Robin remember him as being angry and very impulsive, and while that isn't entirely true, this pokemon does reflect that side of him.

Fletchinder- The evolved form of the robin pokemon to represent Jason's intimidating side.

Snicket- Jason's Post-Crisis reintroduction showed him as a car tire thief of crime alley.

Cubone- A nod to how Jason was initially just a clone of Dick Grayson (in terms of character, not a literal genetic clone) and how it was his desire for his mother's love that got him killed.

Zorua- Although reflective of Jason's older-self, Zorua's tricky nature of disguising itself to hide from others is a good way to show what Jason would end up like.

Snubbul- Another representative of Jason's personality, many see him as a tough guy, but really he's just a sweet guy with attachment issues.

New Team

Annihilape- After the accident, Jason's Primeape would evolve into Annihilape. Annihilape reflects how the lazarus pit drove Jason mad upon his own revival.

Staraptor- An edgy bird pokemon that likes to be alone it does reflect Jason's isolating tendencies whenever he gets into fights with bruce.

Alolan Marowak- Since Batman and Nightwing both have Marowak, Jason holding having his Marowak post-accident is reflective of this. While his "Alolan" Marowak only became this way due to the Lazarus Pit, it still has the reasons for becoming one. Jason also possesses spiritual abilities thanks to his resurrection, and Alolan Marowak reflects that the best.

Hiusian Zoroark- According to the lore, Zoroark came back to life out of spite. While Jason had no choice in the matter, first being resurrected by one of Superboy Prime's reality-altering punches and then having his memories return thanks to the lazarus pit, if Jason could come back to life out of spite, he would.

Doublade- A reference to the All-Blades, Jason's Doublade is a meta-pokemon that has a new move Blight Slash and a new ability called All-Good. Blight Slash is a physical steel-type move that does super effective damage on dark type pokemon. All-Good resists the effects of any dark type move.

Hydreigon- For a while before the New 52, Jason was considered a complete villain against the batfam. Hydreigon's brutish nature is meant to reflect that.

The reason why I gave Jason two teams is because the explosion that killed him would also kill some of his pokemon.

Red Robin/Robin/Drake/whatever Tim goes by now

Talonflame- Talonflame is the most visually similar to Tim's uniform as Red Robin (I'm refering to the times he uses the Black and Red costumes of course)

Farfetch'd- A reference to the time he went by the Drake

Vikavolt- Tim is often regarding as the tech wizard Robin out of the five that have taken the title. This is also a reference to how Tim "died" by a bunch of drones firing at him.

Pancham- Given that Tim has many alternate versions of himself that are evil, Pancham reflects that given that it evolves into a dark type that needs the help of another dark type to evolve.

Komala- Tim is often given this headcanon that he is constantly sleep deprived and needs coffee. And while there is no coffee pokemon, there is a pokemon that is constantly tired.

Reuniclus- The time when Tim tried to clone Superboy to bring him back.

I will admit, I struggled with Tim's team. I wanted to give him a pokemon that represented his bisexuality, but none really fit.

Spoiler/Batgirl

Clodsire- You're going to look at me and tell me that Spoiler wouldn't own a Clodsire? It has her color scheme and everything (most of her color scheme anyways)

Swoobat- Steph was first introduced as a possible love interest for Tim Drake. She

Talonflame- A reference to her time as Robin.

Pikachu- This feels like a pokemon Steph would have

Espeon- Spoiler's whole gimmick is that she investigates a villain's scheme and then spoils it to the public. Espeon's ability to predict enemy attacks helps reflect this. Also gives her a counterpart to her bff, Cassandra Cain aka Orphan/Batgirl

Goodra- Goodras are silly and affectionate, and Steph is often portrayed so as well.

Most of these pokemon were easy to come up with.

Orphan/Batgirl

Banette- Banette is the most visually similar to Cassandra's costume

Noivern- Given that Noivern is the best looking Bat pokemon (fight me), it would be dumb not to give it to the best-looking batfam member

Sneasler- Given her ninja skills, Sneasler feels like a fitting option. And if you feel that isn't a good idea since Sneasler are probably extinct in the pokemon world, how do you know they're not in the shadows?

Umbreon- a representation of both Cassandra's nightly activities as well as her character arc.

Kommo-o- A representation of her time with the league of shadows.

Most of Cassandra's pokemon are reflections of herself like the other pokemon teams.

Robin (Damian)

Alolan Meowth- A reference to Alfred the Cat, Alolan Meowth was specifically chosen because of its...demanding nature and how it takes a close bond to make it stronger (or evolve it)

Noivern- A reference to Goliath, Damian's Noivern is a meta-pokemon with red fur and scales along with an extra set of wingless arms. It has the ability "Brutal Beast" which causes moves like Outrage to do 1.5x more damage.

Miltank- A reference to batcow.

Pawniard- Being that he was raised in the league of assassins, Damian would of course own a pokemon connected to

Fletchinder- He's Robin, of course he has a Robin Pokemon.

Lucario- A reference to Titus and how Damian grew close to him.

Damian's pokemon team was pretty simple given that he has his own collection of animals from his adventures of being Robin.

Batwoman

Gliscor- While a member of the bat family, Batwoman doesn't tend to follow the rules such as no-killing and no-guns. Yes I know Jason doesn't follow this rule either but still.

Bisharp- Given her military background, a Bisharp would reflect this. It would also hold an Eviolite.

Sawk- Batwoman has lots of martial artist training

I gave Kate a smaller team as she would rely on her guns more often. Also because I struggled to come up with anything else.

Catwoman

Meowscarada- While she is no magician, Catwoman is however quite elusive. Her having a Meowscarada as both her partner and starter pokemon felt fitting.

Persian- Selina Kyle in some continuities is the daughter of Carmine Falcone "The Roman". Persian is often seen by the side of the evil Giovanni, so the addition of this pokemon to Catwoman's roster felt fitting.

Sableye- Sableye reflects Catwoman's constant thievery of jewelry and such.

Lopunny- one of Catwoman's abilities is her athletic skill and she is often sexualized, so Lopunny is fitting for her.

Initially, I was going to give Selina a bunch of cat pokemon but then I felt that was too simple. She is more than just a Cat burglar after all.

The Signal

Midday Form Lycanroc- This pokemon was chosen because it prowls during the day just like Duke does.

Kilowattrel- Matches his color scheme

Gallade- One of Signal's power's is to see a little bit into the future by refracting light.

Same problem I had with Batwoman, couldn't come up with much.

Batman (Terry McGinnis)

Crobat- This one is obvious, but its because he's da Batman! (Or in this universe, he's Zubatman)

Toxtricity- This is why

Scrafty- Because of Terry's messy life, he picked pokemon that sort of reflect that attitude.

Revavroom- In Neo Gotham City, a new species of Revavroom started to appear because of all the advanced technology. Now Steel/Electric, Neo Gotham City Revavroom races through the place as it hunts prey. It has the ability Surge Surfer to help boosts its already high speed so that foes can never gain the advantage. This choice was of course because of the flying batmobile Terry has.

Marowak- Terry lost his dad in the first episode.

Incineroar- Terry has to fight through a level of imposter syndrome in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Incineroar reflects this through not being a fighting type but also having fighting type elements.

I'm the guy that does the funny draws (and music (and sometimes edits)).

Some of you have definitely heard that line way too many times before. Or some of you probably just know me as the Simple Yet Stupid guy. If you haven't seen me before, congratulations! You've successfully met "that guy" (me) for the first time!

This is my tumblr. I reblog stuff I think is neat and post art/music/stuff I like once every [unspecified time frame]. I dipped (sort of) from Twitter (ah, sorry一ECKS [X] as it's called now) like a year or two ago because some guy had too much fun ruining it. Now I'm here more often!

My Thoughts after watching S1 & S2 of TSITP

Disclaimer: I will not be hating on any ships or saying unnecessary bad things about ships or the ppl who ship whoever. Thats not what this is about. This is just my own opinion and thought process and what I’ve taken away from watching the show.

First off I want to say I’m so surprised how much I actually enjoyed this little show. I stumbled across it three days ago and have been throughly entertained.

I want to also say I wasn’t a book reader so I’m basing my opinions wholly based on the series.

Okay lets get into this,

I’m rooting for “Jelly” and here’s why.

Since S1 Jere has been very vocal about his admiration /crush on Belly. He has a positive & honest attitude toward life , which makes him a very likable character. Every time there was a scene with him in it I found myself literally cheesing no matter who he was with.

Something I noticed from the first few episodes in S1 alone was that Jere was almost always “Available” for Belly.

Which instantly established and showed me their dynamic.

I remember I said to myself while watching “Ah , that’s literally her best friend he’s her rock!”

Now at the time I felt like “Omg it’s so nice to see m/w platonic relationships being showcased like this.” I was honestly just so happy seeing that alone. As the show progressed , even in the flashbacks Jere just genuinely always liked Belly even platonically. He always includes her, makes time for her etc. It was honestly such a breath of fresh air seeing a girl actually being treated like an equal player for once . Also I want to add that, that this dynamic was actually balanced, Belly also did the same for Jere even though her head is full of Conrad at the start.

Back to Jere as a character,

Jere is seen as this happy go lucky guy that doesn’t have a care in the world. This isn’t necessarily the case though. That is his mask BUT he is not his mask!

( Thats important here)

All the characters in this show have a mask but I find myself relating to Jere’s the most. He is my favorite character right now( Also Steven) but I’m honestly going to try really hard not to be too biased and just state what I saw and what this show genuinely made me feel.

( I got so emotional watching this show and that hasn’t happened in a very long time 😂)

What I find interesting about Jere’s crush is that it feels more genuine. It grew organically. Not saying that Conrad’s crush didn’t either but its just different, Jeres crush grew from friendship… Conrad’s grew from him knowing Belly liked him.

What I noticed while watching is that Conrad needs to love himself. He needs to do that and work on himself before he’s with anyone. I do believe he loves Belly ( it’s obvious but..)he just cant love her the way she wants.

We see this with how his relationship with Nicole was just a mess and it wasn’t even Nicoles fault.. She like Belly wanted to be there for him. Wanted to love him, she also wanted to be loved. But he just cant commit to doing the work it takes to be in a relationship fully.( In this sense he is just like his dad … who he hates, and I’m sure he hates himself because he’s just like him. Maybe not in the unfaithful part but with commitment to be in a relationship )

Don’t get me wrong before the prom incident Conrad on paper is a really decent boyfriend. He understands Belly, they can talk for hours and once they are dating he does make time for her. but his main problem is not being able to communicate, he assumes and and shuts everyone out.. even the closest ppl to him and then wont even tell them why. Just like Steven said “ Your either up really up high or really down low” but they needed him to be in middle ground, and he just cant do the work to meet ppl half way.

That being said, Jere did the work or is in the process of it and so is Belly they’re moving forward … Conrad is stuck , he needs to be alone ( not forever) to figure himself out and then maybe fall in love just not with Belly … Because she has moved on. She’ll probably never love someone like the way she did Conrad but he also gave her so many important lessons.

Jere isn’t perfect but he’s literally perfect for Belly… When Conrad and Jere were talking by the vending machines I noticed one key thing that was different in their attitudes and this is what it was

Jere said “ I just want Belly to be happy, no matter who’s she’s with”

THAT right there this is not someone speaking selfishly.. Jere deep down doesn’t want to keep fighting and he’s willing to sacrifice his own happiness for someone he loves ( WHICH I MIGHT ADD BELLY IS LIKE THIS TOO! She is just manipulated more easily in s1 )

Because Jere knows happiness without Belly.. He does ..he’s his own person.. He knows it would be hard to let her go ( because he’s done it before) and it prob wouldn’t experience the same type of love but he would move on he knows he would. He also knows his relationship with Belly is strong enough that even if things went sour they always come back because their foundations were a super strong friendship. She’s his constant, not his stability. He even told her he’d be okay even if she decided he wasn’t the one for her.. he was fully ready to take that bullet all over again.

The way they “rebuilt”their friendship again in s2 was amazing to see ( take the romantic love out of it and love was never gone!) Like literally thats what they did..

Arguably Belly is also like conrad.. she never sees whats in front of her until she shes forced to see it, but when she does “ see” she doesn’t take it for granted. She Acts, she fixes, she makes amends , she actively trying to grow as a person.

When she realizes her constant is gone thats what cause her to be unstable.. BUT she’s also relentless, because she herself said she knows them .. tbh she knows the fisher boys better than she knows herself 😂. She truly is in love with both of them but only one relationship works romantically.

backtracking funeral : Something I wanted to add is that Belly got so angry with Conrad she said she hated him… she hated the mask he was showing her.( she hated him in that moment). When has she ever hated jere… ? (Again I’m from show perspectives so thats what I’m basing everything off of)

Even the very few times Jere and Belly fought she didn’t hate jere she aw through the mask, and he let her in.

Going back to the vending machine scene ,In that scene Conrad said something like this (srry if its not the exact quote)

“I cant live without her Jere,” ( I also think he hot into the physicality and mental aspect when the broke up and how it affected him)

He made it about him, not them and or what belly wants.

The thing is if their relationship was really deep, he wouldn’t say this he’d be okay with letting her go because he wouldn’t be losing her they still be friends. The way con asks is like he cant be friends with her now that they’ve been lovers… and thats a huge red flag. ( at least for me)

Conrad only agrees about Belly’s happiness after Jere said it .. and tbh he doesn’t even mean it.. Conrad only loves Belly because thats the only thing stable in his life.. he is not on good terms with his dad, mom is gone, things are rocky with Jere etc. He only wants Belly for his own “happiness “ and that’s horrible foundations… ( sure he loves things about belly but is very surface level its not as deep as their physical attraction to each other)

This is minor but it gave me the ick when he did this in the car, when jere asked if belly was cold, he was gonna turn the air down but Con just gave the jacket… he didn’t even notice she was cold like !?!? ( granted this is small because they were in the front but still, its the initiative that counts here .. Jere starts , Conrad follows )

I just I’m so tired of seeing toxic relationships exploited when healthy and actual loving relationships are what we should be celebrating…

Im not hating on Conrad ( I don’t think he’s a bad character in theory, he just needs work) On the flip side if he’s capable of moving on and dating other people why shouldn’t belly be afforded the same…?

I also don’t want to take away or diminish Conrads friendship with Belly either because I do believe they connect on like a nerd level and maybe physical attraction..But I don’t think their compatible because in every other area they fall short for each-other. Its more of a fantasy for both of them instead of something real? Idk , because when shit gets real they fall apart.. because Conrad chokes snd regresses nothing is solved.

Anyways I’m Team jelly , they’re relationship is sweet, fun, loving and sexy most of all though its easy.. they should feel safe. They understand life is short they leaned that and tackle it head on instead of wallowing in the saddest parts of life and letting that take over.

Its always going to be tough because of how things work ..the foundations are rocky but jere represents growth.. they can grow together.. I just idk jelly only feels right to me. It would be so odd for their characters to switch up like so odd and not truthful to who they are right now and the path their moving towards.

Also Taylor knew that too her best friends (besides the boys) even the debs picked up on if way before it was actually a thing…

So in conclusion Conrad deserves love but he needs to learn to live for himself first. He needs to learn how to live his life with out “thinking” about others ( not that he shouldn’t care) but basically stop manipulating himself and others into this toxic cycle of emotions. He needs to really commit and quite frankly grow a pair. He was the main one telling everyone to grow up… yet he did not.

He takes on these huge responsibilities like a martyr but really he just wants to feel important and needed to help his self worth…but part of growth is allowing people in and helping you when you need it. Also understanding that he will always be needed no matter what and he shouldn’t base his entire personality and values in wanting to be needed.

Belly represents his hope.. but without Belly is he hopeless? Can he still have hope.. Belly is teaching him hope but “he doesn’t love her because he wants to love her” not like Jere does. He loves Belly but he “needs” her to love him

Belly wants someone to want her…she wants to feel love and be loved at the same time. She also is a lover at heart she wants to give love , and she knows how to do this without manipulation. When she loves she loves hard…

Jere also loves hard… just saying he fought for Belly in his own way.. he sacrifices his own happiness for his brother time and time again, he sacrifices his happiness for belly time and time again… Honestly Jere really deserves better but I digress 🤣 Because Belly did become self aware somewhat and is active in being a better person.. no one is perfect as said before but being in love is about the path your working towards and how you go about it.. with said partner…Jere and Belly are on that path. Conrad is somewhere in the middle and he cant see his own cycles.

Im all up for a healthy and friendly debate , I don’t want to hate on any ships but this is my take away from the show alone not having read the book at all. idk if it’s different but As of right now having binged s1 & s2 in the past few days from the start as soon as I head Jere call Belly his future wife I was like damn… its him.

( plus she sees him first when it starts and thats a meetcute 👀 iykyk 😂)

Autistic! Greenbean AU Headcanons: Kid! Lloyd Edition

Now, some things you need to know before read:

English it's not my first lenguaje, I'm trying my best but I speak spanish, so if I have something wrong or I less some word conector, please! Let me know (I use Google Translate in this ocation because I got lazy lol).

WEELLLL, here I am again with more hc and a character sheet :D

I made another list with stimming hc:

- Lives with Wu after Garmadon murders his mother

- He witnessed the case :(

-His dad was probably autistic too jaja

- Probable selective mutism

- Hyperfixation in dragons, ALL dragons

-He has a lot of accumulated energy that he cannot release anywhere but at home

-Tics and spasms when he is stressed/anxious

-The first days after the murder he could not sleep due to the intensity of the tics and spasms

-He actually doesn't remember much of what happened that night, but he knows something bad happened

-He has a rather toxic relationship with Garmadon, he loves him very much because he was the most present father (despite everything Garmadon did) he generated a certain anxious attachment

-In his mind, Garmadon was bitten by an evil snake, turning his father into pure evil, because in his head it does not fit that his father did something bad

-He received therapy 1-2 times before moving in with Wu, but due to Misako's lack of time he couldn't continue (because Garmadon is a capacitist jaja)

- He returned to therapy :D

-He got him a sensory vest because he had a hard time doing anything (especially when Wu is not around or he has to do with being with other people)

-The stuffed animal he has (which is his favorite) was given to him by Garmadon

-He has a stuffed dragon bigger than his in his room, Wu bought it for him the first few days to help him cope with the situation

-Stimming with sounds, but Garmadon found it irritating so he forced himself to stop doing it

-He has a Poly Pocket type box but with a dinosaur theme, so he took out the dinosaurs and put dragons instead

Barley developed lol say you don’t watch the show without saying you don’t watch the show. And coming from a korras/ami fan complaining about one half of the ship having a male love interest is hilarious. Your allowed not to like the show but it’s clear you are just making shit up for the sake of making things up. Also that locked tomb couple isn’t even canon which is hilarious your not shitting on that couple, book, or it’s writers like your doing with bumble/by. Grow up and ignore it.

mate i had been watching that show from volume 1 to the end of volume 8. i've been in this shitstorm of a fndm since volume 3, i think i know what the fuck im talking about.

also I wasn't complaining that blake had a guy love interest prior, more so stating the fact that the bees weren't 'always set up from the start' like how the shippers want to believe. and thats fine - writers change their minds about the direction of the show, but its irritating when these writers/cast act like its not the case. that they always planned from blake/yang to be a thing from day one when its clearly not true.

if they planned it, they would've acknowledge Yang flirting with girls (like she does with guys), would've shown more pining and actual romantic interest on her part towards Blake thats not just written as her 'charming personality'. Like y'all bring up that wink moment from v2 likes its evidence, but in reality thats just what Yang likes to do to anyone! she's winked to that dude from the club, Weiss & Ruby.

Then that dance scene, it lasted for what? a few seconds? Then Yang happily let Sun have a dance with her without a care. They could've had a small scene where Yang let her chill persona down for a second to see Sun/Blake dancing and with that being her realisation moment. Maybe talking with Ruby or Weiss idk. but in canon - none of that happens. cause the show rather focus on jaune/pyrrha & the whole weiss/jaune/neptune bullshit.

Why should i be happy that we spend episodes focusing on Pyrrha and Jaunes relationship, having Jaune constantly trying to flirt with Weiss despite her not liking it - but have to settle for crumbs of the bees that can just be easily read as platonic to please the homophobes.

R/WBY was very much a straight show with two transphobic jokes till like volume 5, when Ilia mentioned she had a crush on Blake. then we see her for one scene at the start of v6 and she disappears.

I'm not making shit up, y'all are just too up your own asses and licking crwbys boots to see the real picture.

Also I haven't mentioned the locked tomb cause i havent read the books, so have no authority to speak about it. And its not the fact of a ship being canon or not, its getting tired seeing that ship over and over again (despite having it blacklisted) and shippers acting all high and mighty now cause its 'canon' despite acting like the fucking worse towards other shippers.

cause apparently Blake & Yang can't be paired off with anyone else or you'll get harassed / angry comments. I dont even like b/lacksun - but Sun was treated like absolute shit by the bees. like in v4, i remember seeing posts of calling him a 'stalker' and glad he got slapped. When in reality he was a concerned friend who saw his friend running away again/ isolating herself.

I didn't want to hate the show, i had hope for it for a while - because i genuinely liked the characters and potential. but overtime that hope for potential faded and i grew up to realise... R/WBY aint shit.

Does Reiko have any specific triggers for his werewolf form?

Cool question hah. This might get a bit long so I'm going to put a crop here and continue bellow

Since Reiko is not originally a regular human, and he belongs to a different realm, Outworld in this case. It's interesting to think in what way does lycanthropy translates to his scenario.

To talk about his triggers, I feel it's better to start with which are NOT triggers for him

* The lunar cycle doesn't affect him in any way

* no type of metal (silver for example) affects him/ trigger him by it's own

*wolfsbane has no special effects on him (tho I do imagine he could get poisoned like any human would)

* some strong emotions are not a trigger in his case (he is a soldier, he lives with the adrenaline on top all the time. He is a bit used to strong emotions, at least the ones you'll say a soldier like him would constantly feel)

You see most of the usual werewolf triggers are related to things You find on earthrealm, such things I'm not entirely sure if they are also on Outworld, or if they work the same so I just took them out haha.

Now about his actual triggers and how does his lycanthropy works. He was at some point cursed/infected with it, how? Probably in some battle it got passed to him by one of his enemies, he probably doesn't Even remember the person who did that.

*The main trigger is his metabolism, diet and activity. Being a Lycanthrope in his case means to eat and spend the same amount of energy a big beast would. So he actually eats quite a Lot of protein and does a lot of exercise, not only because his discipline as a soldier, but because if he does not satisfy that, it will trigger the change. And he needs to do it everyday, but thats not difficult because he was alredy used to it Even before getting cursed/infected. Tho after the curse he did increased both things considerably

*Once every now and then theres an obligatory change (I can't really tell an exact time lapse because idk if months in outworld are the same than months on earthrealm. But just know that it would be a time lapse similar to that) Reiko knows when it's going to happen because he just feels it, his actitude also changes and overall he's just much MUCH agressive and emotional.

*Some emotions can also trigger him, specially fear. Which it's weird because he doesnt fear often but when he does, oh it gets bad

*Sometimes magic trigger him too, but it needs to be very specific and directed towards him.

And thats all for now haha, these could change in the future but as for now, this is the situation for werewolf Reiko

Can I dump some lore on yall real quick. Actually a pretty long post if you're interested but its

About Doleon, the Supreme, the Shards of Chaos, etc. Basically the beginning of it all.

Oc Universe lore has been on my mind recently (I may have talked about some of these things before, and if I have, HERES A BETTER EXPLANATION.)

FIRST, THOUGH! LITTLE WARNING BECAUSE THINGS DO GET VIOLENT TOWARDS THE END. NOTHING VERY GRAPHIC DESCRIBED, JUST A MENTION, BUT JUST IN CASE...

Before anything, the personalities and powers of the brothers, just a recap :

Akmad : The over-the-top, plays by the rules and makes sure you will too brother. NO CHAOS (fun) ALLOWED. We have a PURPOSE here and its OUR JOB to make sure we do it right. Doleon, Lorcan, no, you cannot use your energies to race around and go fast. Each "shard connection" grants them an ability to better protect them. Akmad's is light (the power of flashlight-)

Erebus : Cold, serious and secluded. He pretends not to care when he really does. His power is foresight, but its really random, and typically, no one believes him (until it happens)

Orpheus : Really silly, kind of dumb, acts before thinking. He's very kind hearted and gentle, despite his ability of overwhelming strength. The one who doesn't know whats going on most of the time but thats okay.

Ragnar : ANGY, short tempered, impatient. His ability goes well with him, pyrokinesis. (I imagine he gets angry and just starts flaring at the tips of his quills.)

Lorcan : The goofster, "I ain't gonna listen to no one," living by his own rules (or, trying to. Thanks for that, Akmad.) He can just go really fast 👍

Doleon : Doleon. Electro energy thing.

Kieran : Selective mute (except with Doleon, for some reason,) little baby man, scaredy cat. He doesn't really know his ability yet but he's made some funky purple portals once.

So to start, it all began with the Supreme. The earliest known guardian to all seven Shards of Chaos. But they've (behold, an all powerful enby entity,) been guarding and keeping their power safe from the universe for SO LONG, centuries, perhaps longer? That its negative effects start to take toll. The shards begin to corrupt them, and it takes EVERYTHING THEY'VE GOT not to go in too deep and stay morally good. But the power is killing them, they know they're going to die soon. But the Shards can't just be left unprotected. They need a new guardian. New GUARDIANS. One for each, so the power doesn't become too much to handle.

One by one, Supreme "creates" each guardian (who needs childbirth? JUST LITERALLY CREATE ONE OUT OF PURE ENERGY. They're created using shard energy, and that gives each of them their connection to a specific shard.)

The order goes, from "eldest" to "youngest," Akmad, Erebus, Orpheus, Ragnar, Lorcan, Doleon, and Kieran. They technically don't have ages, nor can age physically. They're adults in the brain.

They were created as small children, raised by the Supreme until they could handle themselves (cough cough a few months cough) HAD THEIR OWN PARENT ERASED FROM THEIR MEMORIES TO PREVENT ATTACHMENT, and then sent into this weird little "world" that only they could enter. It was really to prevent any distractions from their main goal of protecting the Shards (which is a memory they're left with. Call it destiny. They know the Supreme EXISTS, they just don't remember ever being around them.)

They specifically aren't supposed to abuse the power of the Shards. It's always been DANGEROUS AND FORBIDDEN. Akmad especially enforces these rules (he SWEARS he remembers encountering the Supreme once before…he'll be the one to enforce their will.) Of course, though, A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time passes (remember the ageless thing?) and Doleon is kind of sick of it? Always just being told to DO THE THING BECAUSE ITS WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO. Like, what if he's a little curious? All Akmad or anyone will ever tell him is that its their PURPOSE or some crap. He needs MORE THAN THAT. Why CAN'T they use the Shards energy unless its to protect them? He's used it for fun a few times before and come out just fine! Maybe he would…experiment a bit.

So he does and the results are a disaster, obviously. He overloads on the energy, whoops.

Essentially, it takes the connection Doleon has with the energy of his shard, breaks a sort of "barrier" meant to keep him safe from its negative effects, and disguises itself as a good thing. Like look, you let me use you as a host for more power? You get more power. Simple as that. And that's what it is, he's able to use his energy without barriers. In other words, he overloads on it.

So despite how terrible he felt afterwards, when he WAS able to use it it actually felt pretty good? Like he was the most powerful person in EXISTENCE. THERE WAS LITERALLY NOTHING THE ENERGY DIDN'T ALLOW HIM TO DO. NO LIMITS! Kind of addicting, really. A little too much so. If ONE shard did all that…what kind of power would ALL SEVEN give him?

So Doleon knows he probably cant get the shards on his own. If the guardians aren't around, the little temple thingies they're secured in have slight defense mechanisms. Still not enough to keep them fully protected without their guardians, which he probably needs to lure away somehow, but still risky. He needs help. Maybe from someone who would do anything for him…? No matter how crazy it would sound to everyone else…?

That's right, I'm roping Kieran into this mess.

"I just wanna try something out! It won't hurt anyone, promise!" Oh Doleon if you knew. It seemed a little odd, but Kieran would try and be as helpful as possible!

Summary of the whole process bc its too long to describe in full : They find ways to get the shards however they can. Sometimes, it was pretty easy (especially with Orpheus…easiest one yet) but other times, it proved difficult. A few times, they even accidentally managed to activate the defense mechanisms (one of these being…particularly traumatizing for Doleon, where the temple might have sort have began to close up on him and if Kieran couldn't find a way to stop it in time, he would be killed through two walls literally colliding against his body and squashing him to death slowly and painfully. How silly. Wonder where he got that claustrophobia from.)

Little by little, the more shards they collect and hide from the other brothers, the more changes Kieran notices in Doleon. It scares him, but he'll keep going. Just…maybe keep a close eye on him. Eventually, they run into Erebus, not really paying much attention to where they're going, and Doleon just crashes into Erebus, much to the older brother's annoyance. But something happens. He sees something. A quick little flash in his mind, but still. One of what looks to be one of his own brothers still stands, he can't really see who, but the others? Nothing but shadowy, blurred corpses on the ground. When his two younger brothers have already left and he's alone again, it snaps him back to reality. Remember when I said he pretends not to care about anything? Well shit, what he just saw looks bad. REALLY bad. Someone must have…broken through, somehow. Hurt all but one. He NEEDED to prevent that. So he goes to his other brothers to tell about what he saw, all while Doleon and Kieran go about getting the last shard remaining. No one could FATHOM one of their own hurting the others…it makes no sense! Ruled out automatically.

But what if I said.

Doleon doesn't even know what he's about to do. Literally, mind disconnected from everything else. Once he decides to do what he planned to try with all seven, the shards are in control now. But it doesn't fully happen until he decides to SNAP. And when is that? During an argument with Akmad over his recent strange behavior where Doleon insists nothing is happening or wrong. The shards take over and whoops! You stabbed your brother with an energy spear straight through the heart! Cool, heres some more energy to do a little more violence to the rest of them.

You have to But you know who he snaps out of it at. Poor little Kieran, who could do nothing but watch all that time…the others all fought, so why didn't he?! Why did HE have to be the coward?! Why did HE have to be the little weakling good for nothing at all?! And to make it all worse, he HELPED cause this. He was SOOOOOOOOOOOO WILLING TO HELP! Did that make the half of it his fault?

He's just so done with Doleon now. He may be blaming himself too but Doleon killed all the rest. He's actually angry. He's never risen his voice before, but look at him now. Neither of the remaining two are themselves anymore.

He just turns away. Doleon knows he's not coming back. That hurts…but the shards tell him it shouldn't. You're all powerful now, aren't you? That's what you wanted from the start! Do something with it! Forget Kieran, forget your brothers! You never needed them anyway!

And he turns away too. Shame, they had the strongest bond out of all seven…

And for the rest of his immortal life, Kieran decides he needs to be better. Just. Never care again. And what does that turn him into, centuries later?

In the oc universe au, Kieran is in the place of :

Black Death :) Now, I'm aware that Doleon and Kieran being brothers...does not make Shadow and Eclipse brothers. But here's the thing about that, idk WHAT they are actually. Bc to that extent they aren't canonically "brothers" either. In canon, Doom created Black Death, and he created Eclipse. Who knows what that makes them. Due to that, I headcanon that "brothers" in the Black Arms is just the general familial term. Therefore, to me, it makes sense. Sooooooo...random lore drop! Hooray!

listened to a podcast talking about this a bit, so im gonna be unhinged for a hot second about the orange cassidy belt corruption arc

i would love one day to write a kinda comprehensive "guide" to all of this, but i'd have to go back to watch a lot of stuff for it (so it would probably have to be after im done with all kip vs oc rewatch stuff. ofc if theres critical changes to this situation that might change idk let me know if this is anything of interest?), buttttt heres a few misc highlights for what i can pull out from the top of my head

first of all, here. what i believe is one of the most pivotal moments in this whole thing. so during the match with pac where oc won the title, danhausen threw a curse at pac literally right above the title

now this was because pac was trying to cheat by using a ring hammer (twice). which honestly kind of already tells us a lot about corruption, i dont remember if he was already kind of mean and wicked with the hammers before his reign, i mean pac has always been a bastard, but you know. did he start doing this after he won the title? cause that would be saying a lot

this also goes hard in this match, cause after pac is caught trying to use the hammer, oc also almost uses it on him. at this point, its just almost tho. its very close, but he chooses to throw it away, and win the match clean. the key here is, what the title is already doing to him before he even gets his hands on it

anyways. so oc does this title reign. all is swell up until the point kip challenges for it, cause thats where the mind games begin which i believe is an important part of this whole deal. kip separates him from his friends effectively, continuous taunting and mind games, he pushes oc to his limits mentally, forcing him to tap into a very dark place in his mind to overcome the odds to beat kip (also oc was showing the first cases of more vicious behavior in this match so like)

like literally this whole storyline is confirmed by the man himself to be about this like. how could this not tap into and mess with ocs psyche going forward tho

also this is just my things but. at revolution, that one time he tagged with danhausen to challenge for the tag titles, oc was the one to change his gear to black. tbh this is personally for me where this whole corruption brainrot started, but its worth mentioning, cause he has not done it since. even when teaming with hook, it was hook who changed his gear colors to match the denim. im just saying (as in, danhausen has to have a finger in this pie somehow. he just absolutely has to)

i didnt watch a lot of what happened with house of black, but thats where the physical issues started. im just inclined to believe that the physical pains just amplified his need to push himself, to show the world that hes worthy of holding this belt and being a champion despite being injured - cause thats what all this was about, right? oc having to prove to the world that despite how hes been viewed up until this point, hes actually an incredible wrestler and a worthy champion. come hell or high water, he will prove that

and thats part of why the belt was so important to him, which could easily be also turned around to be the so called "siren call" of the belt. get me and keep me with whatever way is necessary to prove yourself as a worthy champion. yes even if it costs your mental and physical health and all your friends

and so this got pushed until he literally couldnt do it anymore as mox took oc to his limits and defeated him after physically beating him down worse than before (or i mean, a week after stadium stampede? yeah both of these are factors here lbr). and you saw the miserable creature oc was after losing that title. finding solace in friends that were champions (hook and kris. i think this is an important plot point, i dont think we saw him around chuck and trent during this time. the best friends with no titles....), maybe trying to grasp for some of that former glory that he used to have

until he won the title again. and he was HELLBENT on getting it back. and after he won it, well.. i shared thoughts about this here. which is a very interesting contrast to the first time, a year ago, when he won it the first time

i dont know if i had more thoughts rn, i have lost the plot so heres everything for now. just.. yeah. i have way more things somewhere in my blog and like said i should watch all this back to get everything, but quickly putting it together heres few key points of things. anyways enjoy or whatever. feel free to share thoughts im all ears (especially if i missed anything seemingly key stuff)

Been reading your posts about Jason Todd, which admitedly was kind of hard, and i've found that i agree with a lot of your posts, but maybe because ive start paying attention, i kind divided between the idea that Jason was more interesting before the New 52, and also wishing him to be something else than just a batman villain, it's weird and i don't how to feel about this character, and in kind of curious about something, if you had to make a redemption, or at least a less villanous writing of the character, how would you do it?

For redemption, I think it could be somewhat difficult but not impossible. I do want to point out that Countdown to Final Crisis (link) kind of had like an arc for him where it seemed like they were maybe leading to him being less supervillain/crime-lord-y, but they swerved at the end. like he was like "actually u know what? never mind." which I think makes sense for him there, b/c its coming right off "not killing this guy I thought was a threat* lead to a universe getting destroyed, so I should always go ahead and kill people if I think it's right."

I recently got another jason ask so putting that here (link) but I think another thing new earth Jason generally suffers from is black and white thinking. like lots of people equate "oh willing to kill" as "more morally gray, less black and white", but all Jason does is find a category of people he thinks it's OK to kill and then kill them, and if people who wouldn't otherwise fall in his category of 'ok to kill' happen to get hurt... that's just how it is. There's not really any nuance in his worldview.

i would have his worldview challenged by maybe having a character who is like a reflection of young him (dad or mom involved in organized crime) get involved in the plot. Jason kills their dad/mom (whoever was involved in crime) and the character wants revenge.

we should also just see jason be genuinely WRONG about being judge-jury-and-executioner. not as in "obviously it's wrong" but as in "he doesn't think a ton before he kills people, generally assumes he's right, so he kills someone he otherwise wouldn't have thought deserved it". I think that'd be an easier way to challenge his worldview than addressing the whole "no one should be extrajudicially murdering people" thing.

Like fandom makes a big deal about it, but Jason does not primarily go after rapists or human traffickers or w/e. he will kill human traffickers if he stumbles across them, as seen in red hood: lost days, but he seeks out people involved in the drug trade and drug dealers. and it's not even "he always kills people who break his 1 rule of don't deal drugs to children". he kills people regardless when it helps him intimidate other crime bosses or when he's done recruiting his organization (link) ... I realize that doesn't segue into a less-villainy-arc but i typed it out so leaving it here :P

anyway so how i'd write the arc is have jason remember his childhood and be forced to confront what he's doing via a character who acts as a parallel to young him, and him killing someone who he thinks wouldn't deserve it just due to a misjudgment at his case. I think it could be interesting if he interacted with Damian and Cass, in that both of them have killed people (cass once, damian a bunch) and then are the more anti-killing superhero guys**. I especially think Damian would be well equipped to be condescending to Jason while trying to poke holes in his logic. But IDK fandom kind of flattens Damian and Cass when Jason is involved so many not.

*as pointed out in that post tho, Jason was pro-killing him out of ignorance, tho, he didn't really know what was going on he just happened to be right.

Greetings everyone! So uhm. its been a while since my last liveblog post. there have been some circumstances that made me really not wanna read, but now they have passed and I have risen from the ashes like a glorious phoenix and I can resume my divine mission of complaining about this mediocre-at-best book series to an audience of as many as 60 people if you can believe it. Also we're back to the style of post where I just jot down all my thoughts bullet-point style because my life is in shambles

Anyway, last time we had a chapter where literally nothing happened except for Lucien showing up at the very end, so lets see what he does in this chapter 47

I still cant believe its been only two months since Feyre started permanently living at the night court and forgiving Rhysand for torturing her, its taken me longer to forgive people at my school who mildly annoyed me. Also wait, Feyre was UTM for three months, shes spent more time consecutively being tortured by Rhysand than consecutively having a good time with him wth

Feyre stop fuckin jacking the bat boys off challenge (impossible!!)

Ive seen this part where Feyre talks about the bat boys being so much stronger than Lucien in english where shes like "Lucien may have trained to be a warrior, but Cassian, Azriel and Rhys were Warriors" like oh fuck, we gotta get out of here!! those guys are Proper Nouns!! But in the german version, this line is just "Lucien may have trained to become a warrior, but Cassian, Azriel and Rhysand were warriors" because nouns are always capitalized in german and not just when theyre Super Epic and Cool so you cant do that thing that english books do with proper nouns, and Idk i think thats pretty interesting

Something about Feyre being all like "theyre hunting me, its like Im their prey" really pisses me off, I think its because it could be cool and thematically relevant but instead its just kindof nothing

Speaking of which, Lucien coming ip to her and saying "We've been hunting for you" is so forced, it reminds me of how Tamlin would say these weird objectifying things to Feyre alllll the way at the start of ACOMAF even though hes never said shit like that before, except this is way worse because who on earth would say it like that?? hello?? If you were looking for someone who went missing, you'd say like, we've been searching for you or we've been looking for you, not we've been hunting for you thats just insane

'whore's son') so it gains this additional layer where Lucien is not just insulting his mom also using a word that's like a trigger for him which makes it much more impactful imo. good job, Ms. Ernst

The fact that Feyre is getting on Lucien's case for siding with Gamlin over her is mighty ironic when you consider whats gonna happen in acosf, but also Lucien right now and the IC in acosf are making the same choice of listening to their close friend of several centuries over his gf that theyve known for like a year. Like, yeah, obviously its super shitty in both cases but I do get why they did it. And thats not even factoring in the political power Tamlin and Rhys have over their friends, like, it really doesnt matter if you "dont enforce rank" because youre the super special ones who were literally chosen by god to rule, you have an inherent authority over the people around you

This is all so frustrating because I do sympathize with Feyre for feeling abandoned by Lucien because that is essentially what he did, but I really dont like how hes portrayed as being unambigiously in the wrong for caring more about politics or himself than Feyre when its like, first of all, politics impact sooooo many people of course making sure that the SC at leats looks stable from the outside is more important than Feyre's mental health, and second of all, Feyre also pretty much only cares about herself. Which is her right btw, she has been very traumatized, she should be prioritizing herself for a while now, i just dont like the way the narrative frames this whole thing

Burn - Oh narrator again! Hello narrator! - See yeah I’m really not being sold by the continuing tonal whiplash. this feels too hamilton-esque and it doesn’t really fit?  - i’m so confused by this song, there’s so much going on.  - oh hello is this the catholics? trying to pick Bradley’s voice out and struggling. - okay yeah i liked the narrators first song but i’m not on board with this one. it would be really good if it was separate from the other vocal parts but having the two combined in one song is kind of muddling my brain.

Take Things Into Our Own Hands - Immediately i’m excited to see if Bradley gives us that beautiful high note that Oliver does. I know I shouldn’t pit them against each other, but I’ve seen so much of Oliver’s stuff that I know what he basically always brings to a character, and having seen Bradley in only a couple things, I’m excited to see how their versions of Thomas differ. - I like this Catesby. I think this is the first we’ve heard from him all musical so far, he sounds really good. - Okay that was Thomas’s verse but that wasn’t Bradley. I’m fairly certain that wasn’t Bradley.  - OH OKAY THEY JUST CUT OUT THE ENTIRE BUILD-UP AND THE END OF THE SONG. WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT. HELLO???? WHAT.  - absolutely not a fan, i really love the build on the “haaaands” before they split off into their vocal parts and do the harmonies. bring that back. bring that back right now. bradley would have killed that high note, i know he would have. 

The Inevitable - I cried the first time I heard this song. Blind Faith - Okay this was my favourite song so lets go! - carrie aceing it, of course. come on bradley. - opt up? - oohhhhh no he’s sticking with the lower range from the acoustic version. yeah, i think this song is where his and Oliver’s approach to Thomas differs the most. he sounds super good though. - i think i prefer the opt ups that we get from oliver but bradley sounds gorgeous either way. - i know bradley has the upper range, i just wanna hear it. he’s a lot stronger though i think? that might be the lower notes but he feels very booming. i’m conflicted as to how well it fits with the thomas we’ve seen seen so far. and i know bradley has a different approach than this to No Happy Ending. - not sure this one holds up unfortunately. not that i’m giving out points, but if i was, it would be a point for oliver. 

The Plot Reprise - See now THIS is what i wanted to hear from bradley during Blind Faith. - oh this is super good. i love this. do i remember what the non-reprise version of this song sounded like? no, but this slaps.  - okay i just scrolled back up and checked my notes, back on board.  - sidenote, terrified to reach Caught in the Crossfire in case that’s Thomas’s death song. 

As Far as I Can Tell - OH DANIEL SONG AGAIN. - he sounds so good i’m a daniel stan fr.  - oh this is jazzy. i hope he gets some good choreo for this. i want some jazz hands, a couple of kicks maybe.  - “...oh for gods sake” Daniel you’re incredible.  - pls stop giving daniel massive notes at the end of his songs, he’s got to do an entire run of this. i have complete faith that he’ll manage it but still. come on.

describe their canon relationship/dynamic

SAE NIIJIMA. AND GORO AKECHI. HAVE. THE LITERAL FUNNIEST DYNAMIC OF ANY CHARACTERS IN ANY PIECE OF MEDIA, EVER.

They’re, like, coworkers, which is already incredible bc they’re like. a 27 year old woman and a 17 year old boy. i dont actually know how old sae is but you get the idea. can you imagine being sae and working so hard to earn a position & respect as a young female prosecutor and then theyre like. can you confer with this Teenage Prettyboy. shes so strong for not just walking out.

But It Gets Better. Every interaction they have is stellar. The very first time we see them interact, which is also The First Time We See Akechi, At All, is, god i dont remember the Actual conversation they have i only rememebe the end of it, the most important part: akechi trying to get sae to buy him sushi and looking so miserable and pathetic when she’s like “only the cheap stuff :/“. Fucking…. incredible. 10/10 introduction to their dynamic all on its own. I cannot remember if akechi ever asks her to get him sushi again in the game or if im recalling something that happened in the anime or a fanfic. but. god its so funny. akechi, AKECHI, trying to pester this adult woman he works with into treating him to food. and her refusing. its incredible i could talk in circles abt how good this is for years.

and then it gets even funnier bc of like. the scene where sae realizes that Her Laptop Has Been Tampered With, and she asks akechi if He did it because they had a Disagreement recently. sae thinks akechi is petty enough to like. illegally take important and classified case information from her computer. over some difference of opinion that like, i imagine we see in the game, but if we do its so Understated that ive never noticed it. and she goes Did you try to get revenge on me. you bitch. like its so so funny

AND IT STILL GETS FUNNIER. BECAUSE. makoto says like. she got the impression sae had more trust & respect for akechi than for her. Sae is like “this guy I work with can be annoying and full of himself but he’s genuinely smart and he gets the job done i respect that” and then the guy in question is A TEENAGE CELEBRITY.

I don’t think we ever get to see akechi talk about sae all that much but like. It seems like he does Genuinely Like Her. And also is constantly passive aggressive at her!

In conclusion i. They’re incredible. They’re coworkers, theyre enemies, theyre very good friends with deep respect and even a kind of admiration for each other, theyre one businesswoman and the weird as hell teenager she works with that she feels compelled to be nice to because she has a little sister his age.

Again yet another case of like. ^ All That is just like. Their actual canon interactions. I cant improve on that. The only way it can be made better is by having More of it. GOD I wish we got more of it. Oh also I think they talk shit about other people theyve both worked with together. With the utmost professionalism.

theyre a combo of “GOD i want akechi to have friends. so bad” + “This is the funniest thing ive ever seen. in my life” i wish i was big brain enough to come up with something as riotously hilarious as their dynamic. the whole concept is so singularly unique. i dont know if that was even INTENTIONAL. its all There and it just gets skimmed over. just….. completely fascinating

I read this one a whiiiiiile back but its like, my fave fic ever, im not even into dresden files i have no idea what happens there but the characters are interesting and the way they all interact is super interesting, the supernatural elements really blend incredibly well and THE DUELS OMG, some yugioh fics dont bother writting duels or just do the minimun but the duels here actually serve a purpose and AUGH its just so good, the author has another 5ds/marvel crossover but i have not read that one yet LOL.

This isnt an unboxing vid but rather an unboxing description. A review, i guess, of volume 20. I think i did a kickstarter backing when i was like 12 or possibly 14, which was also when i took the resulting book to my therapists office and ranted about gg for like twenty minutes, but my mom backed it that time and i didnt get nearly as much Stuff as i did this time

So, first off:

I have multiple copies of beetleburg clank as it happens, but theyre either pdf or black and white on newsprint so this is easily the highest quality print copy ive got. IT LOOKS GREAT! Obviously i love the first volume cause thats the first one i read and i was soooooo obsessed with the art when i saw it as a kid. One of the best things about the big paperbacks is being able to see harder to read details like the honk lessons in the bg, for instance. Weirdly though, some of the panels with gil look really different than i remember? I may have to cross reference them to see if im crazy (im probably crazy)

Also, cheyennes coloring is really so good in volume one! I really love the subtlety that was put into it, and also i think he should do more monochrome sometimes. The way he uses value is great to begin with

No real comment on the story cause like, its beetleburg clank. I was there. In beetleburg. It was rad and i have no notes. The inclusion of the side story is also really fun. I remember this one from the website, and i wasnt really expecting it in the paperback for some reason

Volume twentyyyyyy! LOOKS GORGEOUS! Absolutely delighted. Money well spent. Fascinated that trogulus has a character entry and not rakethorne. Or kjarl, for that matter!

Something i think is interesting is how the pages kinda fly by when theyre uploaded one at a time. Most of this book really is the exorcism, and then we get the seadwellers. A lot of pages covering a relatively short amount of time in canon. In general i tend to forget how much has actually been posted until i look up something for reference, and realized i have to crawl through like twenty pages to find the one im looking for, lol

Even so, the amount of actual story being covered hits on some really good plot points in this volume. Weve got BOTH exorcisms, a lot of godqueen shenanigans, ardsley (rest in peace, darling), seadwellers, kjarl nonsense, oggie backstory, higgs backstory, and overall just a lot of answers and obviously more questions. And i like that it ends with the martellus & seffie convo. A really fantastic way to wrap up the volume itself

Some of the colors here I like a little better in print than i did digitally, too. Thats always a struggle with art, the difference between how different screens display color vs what different printers are capable of. So youre always gonna get slightly or sometimes even dramatically different values and saturation depending on how you view it. Interesting to see in action like this

Some of the more high impact panels also really pack a punch at a size this big, too. To me this is especially the case with the exorcism, theres a lot of really dramatic panel layouts during that sequence, and it makes me very excited to see all that mess on giant rat island and how that will shape up in print

I picked heros & villains for my sketch collection, and its really cute. I think it's funny how i cant tell sometimes whos supposed to be a hero or villain, and i also like that tarvek and theo are next to each other in the book. Thats very amusing to me. My favorite sketches are probably both agathas, lucrezia, and zeetha. I always appreciate how lucrezia and agatha dont look exactly like each other, but theres still a family resemblance

... My envelope of madness definitely has a lot of madness in it. I LOVE the lil bookplates theyre very cute. Even though im not sure what a bookplate does. Got a cute sticker, my arch nemesis is some sketelon guy (what else is new 🙄), a bunch of bookmarks (especially love the exorcism engines one), some sort of guild of monsters... Poster? Thing? Which is delightful, and a TPU student ID, which is terrifying as someone who managed to graduate after like 8 years. YOU CANT DRAG ME BACK, MAN!

Especially delighted by how much of the stuff ended up having a muse on it. I love the muses dearly

it truly does jokerfy me a bit how overlooked they are and have always been. like this is sort of a deep cut so idk how relatable it is, but i remember i would be at the mall in middle school at dELiA*s (who remember!! lmao) looking at their wall of band shirts seeing like the killers, kings of leon, etc thinking shit like, "i dont understand why spoons not up here or why i dont hear them on the radio and people dont know who im talking about when i mention them, but all thats true of these bands. but spoon is better than all these bands is the thing. with the same amount of appeal imo" ...like maybe in a less sophisticated and more annoying middle schooler way, but that sentiment. and i still feel that way! and i get that that is justifiably said of soooo many groups and musicians, truly, across all genres. art and creative fields in general really. but with spoon i think about it especially not just because im particularly sentimental about their work, but also bc i truly feel like they have a really broad appeal. i mean their songs end up on the soundtracks of all sorts of films and tv episodes bc theyre good, they capture a mood, they just have that oomph that a scene needs. but theyre just not very well known. a blessing and a curse i figure, feels like theyll never get the respect and clout theyve rightfully earned for their artistry which is a bit crazymaking but otoh theres allll sorts of downsides and indignities to fame 🥄

exactly like they really do have a Commercial Appeal (pun intended) and they truly do have a wide spread of genres covered, and covered well. it’s interesting they never cracked outside of their scene given they really well could have given the rise of indie rock/pop/general alternative adjacent scene in the main charts. and as you mentioned, they did have a lot of boosts in media that actually helped to catapult a lot of their contemporaries, it just seemed they never managed to bubble above the surface.

tangent after the cut sorry spoon-anon but i have A LOT on my mind. hopefully u stick w me thru this and get where i’m coming from (tho im sure u do)

however, what i mean w cult-status is like in reference to some of their contemporaries like the national, interpol and a lot of the NY scene when i think about it – sort of being viewed as these cult like bands with an actual document of their history straight from the go in some cases.

as u would know spoon has this unique story to them that makes them perfect fodder for this for anybody else reading below the cut: band releases a well received debut album on a cult label (matador), leaves them for a major to release a lauded follow up that does terribly sales wise and gets thrown to the dogs like meat straight afterwards due to horrible mismanagement but somehow defy that and go on to continue to release some of the most critically acclaimed albums of the last 20 years despite the fact they may as well had just given the fuck up.

if that had happened to any of those NY-adjacent bands i feel the history would have been covered so much different if that makes sense? like they’d have somebody down there in the trenches with the band covering this shit for a low quality documentary that’d be like the gospel for fans. imagine seeing footage of britt curled up at the times square hotel pay phones he would call up his lawyer on during his 15 minute breaks at citibank lol trying to shop rough copies of girls can tell to labels because he was that hellbent on getting it released. you can only imagine it because it doesn’t exist!! if it was any other critically acclaimed blog era-band it probably would exist!! hell any kind of proper document of any of their post-sneaks albums would have been so fucking good and so deserved. i feel all we really know about them is merely just crumbs in general as a band imo and a lot of good preservation just doesn’t seem to exist at all. like yeah we have the decent oral history of gimme fiction but i kinda want that for the whole band more thoroughly? i like knowing things! i want some sort of meet me in the bathroom kind of coverage of them. i want them to be respected for the band that they are because they are just that good and utterly destroy their contemporaries in terms of output AND consistent critical acclaim. kinda mad at myself for putting them in the back of my mind for almost decade smh 😔

still i just feel they don’t get even close to enough love or respect from people although their contemporaries are regarded as darlings and have devout groups of fans and that stuff. a good majority of them probably have no fucking idea who spoon are even though the band themselves have probably done something with them or have heard of the band in passing/other media. with all that considered, it’s all very strange to me how they’ve just ended up being some band from austin. maybe that’s just how it was meant to be. i’m not sure.

EDDIIT: i just realized after that last post that arcade fire was actually given more light than hell by merge than spoon were when they were literally on the same label like um where the FUCK was that level of attention for them when they were literally both on par with each other quality wise musically and critically like hello?????? what's up with THAT... much to fucking think about also fuck win butler btw.
