So....you know about Naruto?
You may not know this, but there is a popular video on youtube back in the day taken from the premiere of Naruto Shippuden where Naruto Uzumaki is talking to his younger self.
Tumblr media
That clip was only seen on the original 2007 broadcast in Japan and the clip was not included in any DVD release.
The only reason any Naruto fan saw these rare broadcast skits online was thanks to fan-subbing groups getting their hands on the raw TV broadcast recordings as soon as possible to release translations to the internet fandom.
Imagine if the show came out a decade earlier, these clips would be a lost media goldmine.
Crazy, huh?

After literal decades of dealing with Konoha's disaster shinobi, that finance specialist probably wouldn't even know what to do with Naruto, who saves his receipts, doesn't expense everything, and brought home more resources than he used on a mission.
Finance Shinobi: *in tears and clutching a mission report*
Co-worker: *wincing* Ahh Kakashi-san again?
Finance Shinobi: *sobbing* N-Noooooo. It's Uzumaki
Co-worker: *scoffs* Ugh I can only imagine. Don't know why Hokage-sama let that one make it onto a team. Especially Team 7.
Finance Shinobi: *abruptly stone-faced* If you ever talk bad about my personal savior and future Hokage Uzumaki Naruto again I will gut you like I gutted ANBU Squad 6's budget after that fuckery with the chickens and the cabbage cart.
Co-worker: * pale-faced and sweating* w-what?
Finance Shinobi: Did I fucking stutter? That boy is going to single-handedly fix our economy. Did you know Team 7 got sent out the other day with incorrect paperwork that gave them a third of their normal Team budget? Did you? Huh? Did you know that?
Co-worker: ...n-no I did not
Finance Shinobi: Well they did! And normally that means Hatake, curses upon his name, would come back still somehow massively over budget and with bills. Uzumaki Naruto not only managed to get them back under budget but he brought in a new trade contract with a coconut merchant. I don't even know what coconuts look like but apparently, we'll be getting them at 1/4th the price for as long as Uzumaki Naruto wears a headband. The merchant wrote the contract on silk, included a marriage offer for Naruto with all of their children and then signed it in blood. If anyone ever stops that boy from handing me the most detailed and perfect financial reports I have ever seen in my life I will go rouge, murder everyone in this village and Hatake twice, and then run directly into the sea. Neither the gods nor Tsunade-sama could stop me.

AU where Harry says Fuck It with his entire childhood trauma filled chest, takes a fist full of gold to muggle London the summer after 4th year, gets his hands on a pistol, and then gives Dobby a call.
Imagine Voldemort chilling in Malfoy Manor when some house elf in 16 hats and 27 pairs of colorful socks rolls up with a .45 like "Mr. Harry Potter sir sends his regards."

I remember back before the MCU when spoilers were things like who died in the end or who the real killer was. Now spoilers culture is like someone accidentally lets the cast list leak and is instantly shot dead by Disney

Summer of Whump Day 7: Storms
Fandom: Naruto
Rating: T
Pairing: Mizuki/Umino Iruka, Umino Iruka & Uzumaki Naruto
WC: ~1270
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply; Domestic Violence; abusive relationship; gaslighting (I think)
Notes: An evening of domestic violence as seen through Naruto’s eyes. Normally I would provide more of the fic before the Read More, but the potentially triggering content starts early in this one.
A/N: I understand it’s a very loose interpretation of “Storms” but um. This is what I got y’all. Sorry for being a day late; still adjusting to new work schedule.
~
Naruto considers leaving when he learns that Mizuki is staying the night. The afternoon with Iruka-sensei had been great, even fun, until the bast—wait, Iruka-sensei doesn’t like that word. Jerk. Until the jerk shows up halfway through dinner.
Like a bad dream, Mizuki’s appearance coincides with a rumble of thunder. He’s not happy to see Naruto at the table; then again, most of the village isn’t happy to see Naruto, so what else is new. Iruka-sensei turns into a different person with Mizuki. He gets an extra plate and serves him, asks if he needs anything else, flinches, asks again if Mizuki wants anything else. And only once Mizuki waves his hand and grins baring all of his teeth does Iruka-sensei sit back down and continue eating.
“I’m going to stay tonight, Iruka,” Mizuki says.
Lightning flashes outside the kitchen window. The rain starts coming down.
“Iruka-sensei, do you want me to go home?” Naruto asks.
He doesn’t get to respond.
“This storm is going to get pretty awful, Naruto-kun,” Mizuki answers instead. “You should stay here tonight.”
“I wasn’t asking you,” Naruto seethes. “It’s Iruka-sensei’s house. If he wants me to stay, I’ll stay. Otherwise, I’m going—”
“You can stay, Naruto,” Iruka-sensei murmurs. He gets like this around Mizuki, but only when they’re at home. Naruto doesn’t like this side of his sensei, but he doesn’t know what to do about it. “I don’t want you catching a cold because you had to walk home in the rain.”
They finish dinner, and Mizuki takes Naruto by the shoulder and leads him out of the kitchen. He says they’re going to stay out of Iruka’s hair while he cleans up. Urgh; why does everything Mizuki do or say in these moments make sense?
The rest of the night goes by quietly. Iruka-sensei joins them on the couch in half an hour, his eyes puffy like he’d been crying. But he curls up next to Mizuki when the jerk opens his arm, and the three of them watch TV for a while. Naruto sneaks glances at them every few minutes and his confusion grows. Mizuki is running his fingers through Iruka-sensei’s hair and they’re holding hands on top of Mizuki’s lap. Iruka-sensei has his eyes closed and a small smile on his face. He’s resting his temple against Mizuki’s shoulder.
They look happy.
Iruka-sensei looks happy.
Outside, the wind whistles and the rain patters on the windows. Each roll of thunder echoes through the village’s valley, and the lightning that precedes it illuminates the night.
“It’s time for bed,” Mizuki says. He turns the TV off.
“Aww, I was watching that,” Naruto complains. He kind of was, and it was in the middle of the program.
“We all have school in the morning,” Mizuki continues. “Bed, now.”
“But—”
“Naruto, go brush your teeth please. I’ll be in to help you settle in a minute.”
Naruto glances between Iruka-sensei and Mizuki and wonders what he missed; if he missed something. He thought he’d been paying good enough attention that they couldn’t have said anything to each other without him noticing. He stands up anyway and shuffles off to the bathroom.
It’s while he’s spitting out a mouthful of foam that a flash of lightning lights up the bathroom, and then along with the crash of thunder comes a crash inside; something shakes the wall beside the bathroom door frame. Naruto stops in his brushing to listen.
Rain.
Wind.
“Do you like making me mad, Iruka?”
Another crack of—thunder—a body hitting the wall.
Naruto clenches his fist. Iruka-sensei told him after the first time to never interfere when Mizuki is in one of these moods. That he didn’t want Naruto to get hurt.
“I hate hurting you, but it seems like it’s the only way to make you listen.”
Naruto presses his back against the door. He can hear Iruka-sensei holding back gasps and sobs; he bites his own hand to keep the frustrated tears from escaping. There’s a tight growing pain in his shoulders and neck as he tucks his chin to his chest.
“I give you all of me, and you can’t even spare one evening for us to be alone?”
A thump. Fabric slides down the wall in scratchy stops and starts.
Another soft sob. More rain. Naruto wishes it were over. He just wants to go to bed. Maybe he should start inviting Iruka-sensei over to his apartment, to give him a space away from Mizuki.
“No one else can stand you,” Mizuki says. “You only have me. Stop trying to replace me, so I won’t have to remind you who you belong to.” Softer, slimier, “I don’t like hurting you, Iruka. But you make me so mad I can’t stand it. I’m the only one who can love you, okay?”
“Mizu—”
“I’ll be waiting in the bedroom. Don’t make me wait too long.”
Footsteps stalk away. A door opens, then closes. Naruto counts three, four, five, six—and then opens the bathroom door. Not even a meter away, Iruka-sensei is slumped on the floor, knees to his chest and forehead on his knees. His shoulders are trembling. Naruto crawls to be next to him and bullies his way under Iruka’s elbow.
Together, quietly, they stand and cross the hallway to the spare room Naruto uses when he’s here. He locks the door behind them and sits Iruka on the bed.
“Where are you hurt, Iruka-sensei?”
“I’m… I’ll be alright, Naruto. It’s not as bad as it could have been.”
“That doesn’t mean—”
“Did you brush your teeth?”
Naruto nods.
“The storm’s almost over,” Iruka-sensei continues. “If you want to just stay up until it passes and then leave, that’s okay. I wouldn’t…”
Naruto waits for him to finish that thought.
He doesn’t.
“I’ll stay,” Naruto says. “I’m pretty tired anyway. I might just pass out once I hit the pillow!”
Iruka-sensei smiles. Breathes a laugh. Naruto counts a win, and inspired by it, continues, “But, um… could you stay with me for a bit?”
Iruka gives a questioning hum.
“The, uh… the thunder,” Naruto says. He’s lying through his teeth and they both know it. “It’s been pretty intense and I… I just wanted… um.” Now that he’s trying, he doesn’t exactly know what he’s asking for. He just knows that if Iruka-sensei goes into his bedroom, where Mizuki is, then he’s going to get hurt again. And he needs to prevent that.
“It is a pretty bad storm we had tonight, huh?” Iruka muses. “I thought you were too old to be scared of thunderstorms.”
“No! I am; I mean, I’m not afraid!”
Iruka chuckles. “Sure, sure. It’s just me, Naruto. I’m not gonna tell anyone.” He looks down and away, his shoulders hunching in again. “If I’m honest, I don’t like storms either.”
“You don’t?”
Iruka shakes his head. “If you want me to stay until it’s over, I’ll stay. We can be ‘not scared’ together, okay?”
Naruto grins. “Yes!” But… “What about Mizuki?”
Iruka waves his hand. “He can wait. You’re more important.”
They lay down on the tiny bed together, Naruto snuggled up to Iruka-sensei’s shoulder. He tightens his fist in Iruka’s shirt and closes his eyes. Outside, the wind howls down the streets of Konoha and rain pelts the sandy dirt paths. The sky lights up and then the valley growls.
Inside his bedroom, Iruka-sensei sleeps with bruises old and new. Naruto feigns sleep and keeps watch all night until the front door slams shut behind a stormy Mizuki. The next visit will be worse, but for now they’ll be okay.

Found My Tribe
Summary:
Family drives you crazy.
But they drive you.
Modern AU.
Tumblr media
Rating: Teen And Up (for swearing) Fandom: Naruto Relationship: Haruno Sakura/Karin, Uchiha Sasuke/Uzumaki Naruto, Namikaze Minato/Uzumaki Kushina, Uchiha Fugaku/Uchiha Mikoto Word Count: 1053 (Complete)
Written for @konoha-pride and the prompt ‘Found Family’, and for @dumbblossom who asked for Sakura/Karin.
The title comes from this quote by David Levithan:
“But none of that really mattered. I had found my tribe. It felt like a family reunion for the family I'd never really known, a homecoming at the place where I was always meant to be but hadn't known how to find.”
The summary comes from a meme which I’ve not been able to attribute.
Sakura waved madly to attract attention.
There was no other way to find people in this enormous crowd. In the sea of people, there were no handy landmarks. "KARIN!!!!" she screamed. "I'M HERE!!!"
Making good use of her pointy elbows, Karin struggled through the horde, like a salmon swimming upstream. "God, this is a madhouse! How are you even still upright? You've been here since lunch!"
Sakura pecked her girlfriend on the cheek. "It's okay, sweetie, I'm not the one who just came off shift. Speaking of which, here, hydrate!"
Karin took the offered bottle, but eyed it suspiciously. "This is water right? After ten hours at the hospital, I cannot have alcohol. I'll pass out."
"Yes, of course it's water," Sakura replied blithely, and Karin gratefully took a big gulp.
"Naruto has the vodka.” She stepped back as Karin choked, spitting water everywhere, and giggled as she patted her partner's back.
“You-" Karin had to cough a little more before she could speak. "You fucking did that on purpose!"
Sakura grinned and Karin huffed. "Fine. So where are the idiots anyway?"
Sakura pointed. "Up there."
Karin followed her finger and saw Naruto and Sasuke perched high on the head of a float shaped like an orange fox. Pinching her nose, Karin took a deep breath and muttered a few choice swearwords. "Why am I the only sane person in this family?! Why!"
Sakura hugged her comfortingly. "Because you didn't grow up with them?"
Karin nodded decisively. "Possibly true."
Then she filled her lungs. "WHAT THE FUCK! SASUKE! NARUTO! GET DOWN FROM THERE RIGHT NOW!"
People all around them cringed around from the sound of her bellow, and Naruto and Sasuke jerked. Karin felt satisfied. At least their idiots knew better than to ignore her.
Shamefaced, Naruto and Sasuke hopped down.
"Karin, hi!" Naruto rubbed the back of his head sheepishly. "We were just, I mean, er..."
Karin poked him in the chest. "You were being silly! Pretending to be ten again! You are twenty five! If your mother was here-!"
Sasuke rolled his eyes and interrupted. "It was a dare. From Suigetsu."
Sakura burst out laughing. "Of course it was! And Naruto can never turn down a dare, huh?"
"It is my shinobi way!" Naruto puffed up his chest like a proud peacock.
"YOU ARE NOT A SHINOBI!" Karin shrieked. "THAT WAS SOMETHING YOU INVENTED WHEN YOU WERE FIVE!"
For fucks sake! What had she ever done to deserve being saddled with a cousin like this?
She must have killed kittens in her last life.
For sure.
Sakura, obviously detecting her rising blood pressure, diverted all of them. "I found a ramen place!"
Naruto came to attention immediately. "Ramen?"
Sasuke folded his arms. "Ramen."
Karin let Sakura tow them all away, content to follow along. Pride was too much after a full night at work. Next year, she was going to take the day off.
For sure.

Fandom: Naruto
Character: Naruto Uzumaki
Tumblr media
Ever since Naruto had figured out that you were easily affected by his proud invention there had been very little peace for you.
“[Name]!” the blond called you, followed by a puff and the replacement of a debauched figure, wiggling and winking back at you for attention.
You groaned, unable to help yourself as you covered the lower half of your face.
“Oh, and what do you think about this!” the male continued mischievously, hands forming into the familiar signs again as you leapt forward and jumped at him.
“Nope, enough. You win,” you declared with a pout, ashamed at your own reaction as you pushed Naruto down.
You should have known that Naruto’s determination was greater than your own will.

(Now at Shippuden Era)
.
.
a/n: Anyway, everyone’s bi now.
Chapter 14:
I am compromised.
Safe for now.
Don't think O knows.
Kakashi glances from one scroll to the other. Naruto is back in the village and Sakura is… at least willing to be in the same room as him. Sasuke is in danger. In two years, his family has been flung far and wide, but it seems that now they're destined to be reunited.
He should recall Sasuke. He should report his intel to Tsunade. He should go find Sakura and let her yell at him some more. What would do the most good? Probably the intel, even if seeking out Sakura would feed his masochism streak.
Taking on ANBU missions again has eroded his sense of reality. ANBU allows him to drift, rudderless in a stream that carries him down. He is goalless, living in an eternal period of waiting. Waiting for someone else's mission to end. Waiting for someone to come back. Waiting for someone to forgive him. He has no thought for a life put on pause. He'll continue to hold his breath until it's all over, but it probably won't ever be. So here he'll stay, shallow breath and panicked heart, prematurely gray and sick with grief.
When will it be enough? When will kids stop having to give up their lives in senseless, ceaseless war?
He thought that time was over. He thought that his generation would be the last. But then again, he supposes all generations fight to be the last. Everyone fights for their children to live better, don't they?
Kakashi doesn't have any children, but he has Team 7. A tragedy as old as the world, yet still in the making.
It's over. He's calling it. He'll go to Tsunade, give her the intel and demand they bring Sasuke home. It just isn't worth the risk to keep him in the field. Sure Sakura and Naruto will be a little confused when he tells them the truth, but they'll be happy in the end, won't they?
He slips his shoes on and is about the poof across town, when he's enveloped in someone else's smoke.
"Welcome back, Rival!" Gai exclaims with his usual excess of enthusiasm. "Got a minute?" he winks. Because of course he does. The man has no shame.
He sighs very deeply. Gai is yet another thing that he long ago tried to put on pause, but the man is by no means cooperative. "If I must."
Gai grins. "I insist."
.
.
There are days when focus is difficult, anxiety's high and Sakura has to run away from her own spiralling thoughts.
She goes to the hospital first, but Hatsune turns her away. "It's your day off." she says, "you deserve a break!" she exclaims. "Leave or I'll tell Tsunade," she threatens.
Fair enough.
Without permission, her feet carry her to the bridge where Team 7 used to meet. It doesn't matter how many years have passed, she can't forget it. Whenever she's lost in thought and wandering, she always finds herself here.
She hoists herself up on the bannister and twists so she's straddling it. Then she lays back and stares at the perfect, blue sky. Below, the stream rushes by. In the distance, birds chirp. A gentle breeze stirs her hair—it tickles her nose. Sakura can breathe here. And think.
She wonders what her parents would think of her life. The only thing they'd ever asked her for was her share of the chores and good grades. They never told her what future they wanted for her. Sometimes she wishes for a roadmap; she's not lost, but there's too many directions to choose from.
Would they understand her, as she is now? Is she doing enough to make them proud? Would her parents tell her to work things out with her team?
Mebuki made them change grocers once because Urashi-san gave her incorrect change and refused to correct the mistake. She never spoke to him again. She could be petty like that. She demanded her due and accepted no less. Sakura tries to take that lesson from her. When she's put on missions with sexist jerks or an older doctor doesn't listen to her because of her age, she fights back.
So she thinks Mebuki would understand why she's mad.
She thinks about them all the time; what they would say. She wishes they could have met her team, wonders why they never did.
Nothing to be done about it now.
.
.
Gai is a good listener, but the best thing about him is that he's perfectly able to fill a silence all on his own.
Kakashi pours tea and Gai talks.
"-It was an innocent misunderstanding. Everything could have been avoided if Neji hadn't skipped the sharing circle."
In the choice between snorting and rolling his eyes, Kakashi does both. "Sharing circle, huh?"
"It prevents all manner of misunderstandings!"
All teams have lots of those to go around.
"It's always best to know peoples intentions," Kakashi concedes. "Wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea."
Gai's foot, which has mysteriously found a resting place against Kakashi's ankle, jerks back. "No," he clears his throat. "I'd much rather know where I stand."
He avoids looking at Gai's face, though he knows he'll find no disappointment there. He stands up anyway, taking the still warm teacups and placing them delicately in the sink.
"I have to go." Which is the truth. "I owe Lady Hokage a debriefing."
Gai's empty hands fist against the table as he pulls them back. He awkwardly knocks on the wood and laughs to himself. "Of course. I won't keep you."
.
.
The purpose of not speaking to Gai was, in its own way, self-flagellation. When Sasuke's life was put on pause. Kakashi's was as well. Most waking moments, when not on a task, have been absorbed by worrying about his wayward student's wellbeing. It wouldn't be right or fair to anyone…
So they leave the apartment together and part at the foot of the stairs. He feels Gai's eyes on his back until he turns the corner.
.
.
Tsunade reads the scroll Kakashi has handed to her and bites her thumbnail while she thinks.
"He has not asked for an extraction."
Kakashi's eyes narrow. "I'm asking for one anyway."
"He clearly does not feel that it is appropriate at this time."
"He's a child!" he shouts, which takes her aback.
Tsunade rolls up the scroll and carefully places it on the corner of her desk. He's too close to this, she knows she must be delicate. "He's a leaf nin, same as you. He knew the risks." And worst of all. "You're in constant contact. If he feels he's in danger, he will let you know. In the meantime, I'm sending you and your team to follow up on his intel on Orochimaru's base in the Land of Waves."
He shuts that idea down too. "They're not ready. We haven't functioned as a team in two years, we're unfamiliar with each other's skillsets and we're a man down. I need more time."
"Kakashi," Tsunade sighs, "Make up your mind. Do you want to extract our operative in Sound or do you want to keep the rest of your team in the village forever? Because these are conflicting points."
"Godaime-"
"Shut up," she lazily waves him off. "You're like a protective mama bear. My word on this matter, is final."
But of course he doesn't shut up. Why would anyone around here make her job easy?
"Let me take my team on a retrieval mission to the Kusagakure base. Under the guise of recapturing a missing nin. This way we preserve his cover, but provide an escape route if necessary." He takes a deep breath, "And we can confirm that Sasuke's intel is good."
This gives her pause. "Is there reason to believe it isn't?"
He shakes his head, but now that the doubt is in her head, the suspicion won't leave. "Only that they might be feeding him false information as a test."
Sasuke has successfully passed along dozens of tips over the past year, all of them have been good. There's no reason to suspect that will change, but she doesn't say it. She weights her peace of mind against Kakashi's proposition. What could it hurt?
Sakura, for one.
"Fine," she agrees. She's so tired of this. "But an additional team member will be selected to fill out your ranks."
"Fine," he replies in that false cheery tone that she hates so much. Now that he's gotten his way, he wants to be downright delightful. Well, if she can't relax no one else is allowed to pretend. "Will that be all ma'am?"
"What will you tell them?" Sakura and Naruto think the brat's a traitor. How's he going to stop them from accidentally killing him? Then again, she's not sure either of them have that in them. Sakura doesn't talk about it much, but they must have loved the kid. He loved them a lot anyway, enough to fight that hard for a goodbye.
"That they're finally getting what they want."
.
.
"This isn't where I wanted to be either," Sakura growls, arms stiffly crossed in front of her chest. "Waiting around for Kakashi again… I could kill him."
"Ne Sakura, maybe calm down a little, uhn? Sensei's consistent at least. Consistently inconsiderate of other people's time is what he is!" He starts out trying to defend him but midway through, his own annoyance pushes forward.
She punches his arm, but it doesn't bruise so he knows it's a friendly jab. She's so different. He notices more and more, but at least she'll never stop hitting him. That's kind of comforting, right?
One of the first lessons Kakashi taught Team 7 was to expect the unexpected. The unexpected arrives with paintbrush in hand, insults on his tongue and blank, blank eyes.
.
.
Kakashi's arrival is overshadowed by the intense shouting match already taking place on the bridge. This day is turning out no better than yesterday, that's for sure.
"Children," he greets from his crouched position on the bridge railing. Sakura decides she's standing too close and takes three long steps to the left. This puts her within kicking range of the squabble between Naruto and a stranger.
Naruto's big toe nicks her ear, which zaps her of any patience she possessed. Sakura shrieks and punches the ground. Earth rockets up around her, like a meteor falling to earth. Naruto and the stranger fly apart, rolling into the river with a splash and a tree with a thud. Both boys seem stunned. He doesn't blame them, he's only ever seen Sakura's destructive potential once in person. That little girl is scary.
The stranger looks familiar, now that he can get a better look at him. Could be he's seen him around. Maybe ANBU? Or maybe just on the street. Kakashi's got good recall, but he's struggling to place him. Which is strange, because he's very distinctive looking. Pale as a blank page and just as unreadable, inky black hair and eyes and fashion choices that would make even Gai incredulous. Seems like no one follows regulation these days; everyone wants to show their midriff.
"I don't understand why you are so upset, Uzumaki." He doesn't ask why; he just expresses confusion with an eerie smile.
"Don't talk about my penis!" Naruto shrieks and cups his hands protectively in front of the appendage, like the other boy's going to lunge for it.
"Alright, I didn't mean to offend you, Dickless. I can do that."
Naruto groans and covers his ears. "Don't you see how that's worse?! Don't call me that!"
"But everything I've read about team building indicates that nicknames and jokes facilitate trust between teammates."
Ah. I see.
"Children," Kakashi tries again and three sets of eyes fly to him as they remember his existence. "I see you've already become acquainted." To the stranger in the crop top: "You must be the fourth member of our team."
He uses the tree to push himself to his feet and bows slightly at the hips. The back of his head is matted in blood but he doesn't so much as flinch. "I am Sai."
"Him?!" Naruto demands, running up the riverbank. Kakashi wonders if Jiraiya has robbed him of all critical thinking skills with his indolence. Genius and dissolution so often go hand in hand when it comes to great artists.
"Shouldn't you have figured that out by now?"
"Hello to you too," Naruto grumbles and wrings out his jacket.
Kakashi smiles beneath his mask, "It's good to see you Naruto." He reaches out to ruffle his hair and it strikes him that he's so much taller than he was when he left. He reaches his chin. Sasuke is a little taller and when they hugged, his hair tickled his nose. This is a thing he knows now and they do not.
The boy beams up at him and Kakashi feels a little less like a failure.
"If we're all going to be on this team, we need to learn to work together," Kakashi proclaims, "And what better way than a test?"
He produces two bells from the breast pocket of his jounin vest, makes eye contact with Sakura and smiles so big his eyes crinkle at the corners.
.
.
Turns out, Kakashi has not in fact seen the extent of Sakura's potential. And Team Kakashi is mission ready.
.
.
Gai's mind is still on his not-talk with Kakashi when he reports for duty alongside his team. He's unhappy and Gai understands this. If something bad were to happen to Lee or Tenten stopped speaking to him or Neji betrayed them all, he would be a wreck. He cannot blame Kakashi for his pain, but wishes that he would share it. A burden is lighter, carried by two. He supposes this liminal space is better than a definitive 'no'. They've spent so many years as rivals. When the possibility of more came into view, it was a wonderful surprise. Maybe is better.
"Sunagakure's emissary, Temari of the Sand requires an escort to return to her village," Lady Tsunade doesn't have a scroll to hand him. It's a simple mission, requiring no further details than the prescribed task. "You may remain a day before returning. When would you like to leave?" This, she directs at Temari.
The girl shrugs, "Now's good."
It's been a while since Gai has travelled to Suna. He likes the food, it's spicy enough that it helps with the heat. This will be fun!
.
.
"Maintain cover, expect us."
Generally, Sasuke and Kakashi communicate by written letters because it is the quickest and most accurate way to communicate information. It ensures that Pakkun does not remain in enemy territory overlong and his chakra isn't likely to be sensed. When he delivers messages by word of mouth is means that Kakashi was in a rush or he expected follow up questions.
Pakkun's face is always grim, but he has an air of resignation as he tells him that two years of work are crumbling.
"He's overruling me?"
Pakkun hesitates. "More like checking up on you. It's up to you how you receive them."
Sasuke understands, "So I have not been ordered to return."
"They're coming under the guise of a retrieval mission. You can use this as an opportunity to stage a capture or earn more trust by fighting back. In the meantime, try and find out who's discovered you."
Wait. Does this mean-? "A retrieval mission. So it's Team 7 coming."
He and Kakashi discussed them when they met covertly. Naruto hasn't been in the village for a while, but he was due back soon. And Sakura's doing well, according to their teacher. She's a chunin now.
"Yes."
Team 7 on a mission without him. To come get him.
"…Do the others know?"
Pakkun is not a very demonstrative dog. But he puts a paw on Sasuke's knee as he tells him, "No."
a/n: You may notice that I'm doing this thing where I skip over scenes from canon. This is because I don't want to rewrite scenes from canon, that's no fun to write or read. Instead, I'm letting you infer stuff, if it's confusing at any part, please let me know!
I've also moved around the Akatsuki stuff. It never made sense to me that they basically delayed their plans for 3 years for no reason? So I'm choosing to stretch out the Akatsuki arc so we can deal with Orochimaru properly first. This means that YES, we are headed to Suna for the Gaara/Akatsuki plotline, but other Akatsuki things are getting pushed back.
RE: KakaGai. Why? Dunno. My hand slipped and I love it./p
I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Thank you so much for sticking with me through this very weird journey. I love knowing what y'all think, don't be shy!

Hope you all enjoy it! :D
Fanfic title: ??? Word count: 1905 Fandom: Naruto Pairing: eventual Gaara x OC, cannon pairings Genre: Friendship, Adventure, Hurt/Comfort Warnings: None
Previous chapter / Next chapter
Ko-fi
Soon enough, the first day of the Chūnin Exams came. Shin was very excited about the entire thing, not only for the Exams themselves but also because she’d be able to introduce Naruto and the others to her friends from Takigakure. She had wanted to do so before the Exams began but the five days between Hajii and Aoni’s arrival and the beginning of the Exams were spending in inhumane training sessions led by Rashu. As a team, they had to learn how to work together and balance each other out so there was not much time left for much of anything beyond that.
And said training sessions exhausted all the girl’s energies. So much she would have overslept the First Phase entirely if it wasn’t for her hyperactive neighbour keeping an eye on her.
“Shin-channnn! Are you awake?! We’re gonna be late, believe it!”
Shin startled awake at Naruto’s voice coming from just outside her apartment and looked at the clock. She felt the blood freeze in her veins when she saw the time.
“Just a moment Naruto-chan!” Shin yelled back, jumping out of bed and changing clothes in a panic-induced frenzy. “I just need to put on my shoes!”
She knew Naruto knew it was a lie, but in years of oversleeping Shin had developed the skill of changing in two minutes so he let it pass without fuss.
Faster than should be humanly possible Shin opened the door, ready to go. Naruto was standing there with an excited grin on his face. “Ready?!”
Shin smiled and shoved a protein bar in her mouth. “Ready!”
---
Shin walked with Naruto, chatting excitedly about the Exams. Both had arranged different meeting places with their respective teams, but they were close enough that most of their path was the same.
And just before they split ways, they crossed paths with none other than the Sand Shinobi.
Shin and Naruto fell into silence as they stood face to face with them. No one said a thing, but the tension in the air was palpable, especially between Naruto and Kankuro.
And for a reason Shin couldn’t understand, between her and Gaara.
Once again the boy’s cold green eyes zeroed on her with scary intensity, and she half wished Sasuke was there so at least they could take turns on being on the receiving end of that glare.
“Good morning.” She said politely to the three, brown eyes zig-zagging between them.
Kankuro and the older girl exchanged a look and, to the duo’s surprise, the older girl responded.
“Good morning.”
Shin smiled awkwardly at that. “You guys are going to register for the Exams right? We’ll leave you to it.”
Shin grabbed Naruto’s hand and pulled him along to walk around the Sand-Nin. She watched from the corner of her eye how Naruto seemed to follow Kankuro with his glaring blue eyes and vice versa, but thankfully it didn’t seem like anyone would pick a fight today. Still, she couldn’t help but pay attention to the flow of the trio’s chakra, watching for any sign of violent intent. The unstable but controlled bloodlust in Gaara’s energy made shivers run down her spine.
This boy is terrifying.
Just as they were about to turn into a corner, Gaara spoke.
“You’ll be in the Exams as well, correct?”
Naruto stopped dead in his tracks, suddenly excited. “Of course I will! I’m gonna win this thing with a hand tied behind my back, believe it!”
“I wasn’t talking to you.”
Naruto deflated immediately and crouched by Shin’s side, mumbling to himself something about being better than Sasuke. Meanwhile Shin looked back at the redhead, swallowing a lump at the intense glint in his eyes.
“Yes.” She said, trying to force a smile. “I-I guess I’ll see you there.”
His chakra seemed to spike for a second and Shin noticed that the older Genins behind him exchanged a worried look over his head.
“Don’t be late.” Gaara said. “Temari, Kankuro, let’s go.”
Without another word the three turned their back to her and Naruto and walked away, leaving Shin to breathe out in relief as she dropped in a sitting position besides Naruto. The boy frowned and looked over at her curiously.
“What was that about, Shin-chan?”
“I’m not sure, Naruto-chan…”
---
Once Shin met up with Aoni and Hajii the three made their way towards the Academy for the Chūnin Exams’ First Phase. It was supposed to take place on room 301, on the third floor.
Just as Shin was about to walk into the floor’s corridor Aoni’s hand shot out and pulled gently on her arm.
“Shin-chan, this is the second floor.”
The girl blinked and stared at the large number three painted on the wall in front of them that showed they had arrived at the third floor.
“Pay a little more attention at your surroundings.” Aoni urged patiently.
As people walked by them, Shin looked around and to her surprise she found that the restrooms were in a different place than she remembered, also there was a bit of cracked paint in front of her that had always bothered her in her Academy days whenever she climbed up to the second floor.
“Ah, it’s a Genjutsu?”
“Don’t worry about it.” Hajii reassured, laying his arm over her shoulders and pulling her along to the stairs. “I hadn’t noticed it either.”
Shin couldn’t help but chuckle a bit nervously at Hajii. She remembered he used to be on the clingy side when they were children but as the days went by, he was growing to be a bit too much. He needed to be constantly touching someone, and more often than not that someone was her.
“Hajii, you’re making her uncomfortable again.” Aoni pointed out, pulling on her brother’s hand.
“Ah, sorry Shin-chan.” Hajii slid his arm from her shoulders, then grabbed her hand. His other hand quickly latched on his sister’s. “Holding hands is okay though, right?”
Shin smiled and nodded. “Sure, I don’t mind that!”
Hajii smiled back and tightened his grip both on Shin and his sister’s hands.
“Well, let’s keep going then.”
---
Team Rashu arrived at room 301 with a few minutes to spare, but the place was already packed with candidates. Shin scanned the room, looking for Team Seven’s familiar faces with no success.
“Where are your friends, Shin-chan?” Hajii asked. “I want to meet them.”
“Weird… it seems they aren’t here ye-”
“Shin!”
Suddenly, Shin’s free hand was pulled from behind her and next thing she knew Ino was beaming at her with Shikamaru and Choji standing behind her.
“Ino-chan!” Shin greeted with a smile. “I didn’t know you guys were taking the Chūnin Exams as well! Hi Chouji-kun, Shikamaru-kun!”
Chouji smiled at her as he ate his chips, while Shikamaru lazily nodded his head at her, hands in his pockets.
“Of course we are! Team Ten will beat everyone here!” Ino spoke confidently. “So, where’s Sasuke-kun, huh? You guys are on the same team so he should be here too!”
Before Shin could answer, Aoni and Hajii flanked her sides with polite smiles, with the later crossing his arms over his chest as he laid his head on her shoulder.
“Shin-chan is on our team now.” Hajii explained, widening his smile when he noticed a blush creeping up Ino’s face. “Nice to meet you guys, I’m Meguyuta Hajii.”
“And I’m Meguyuta Aoni.” Aoni said with a friendly wave. “We’re old friends of Shin-chan, from before she came to Konoha.”
Team Ten exchanged confused glances among themselves, but one by one made their introductions. Just as they finished, the doors opened once again and in walked Team Seven.
Immediately, Shin’s eyes fell on Naruto and her smiled widened. The boy was vibrating with excitement, and his confidence was contagious.
“Hello everyone.” Shin greeted her other team. “You guys arrived just in time.”
Team Seven smiled at seeing her, but before anyone could say anything Ino had tackled Sasuke, which ensued an argument between her and Sakura.
Of course…
Shin sighed and walked between the two of them to make peace. Meanwhile, Naruto fixed his eyes on her new teammates, and his smile quickly died.
“So you’re the guys who took Shin-chan from us, huh? I don’t care that she’s taking these Exams with you. She’ll always be a part of Team Seven. Believe it!”
Shin’s attention moved from the bickering girls to Naruto, startled at his sudden outburst, before settling on Aoni and Hajii. The twins weren’t smiling anymore.
“And who are you?” They asked as one.
Naruto’s eyes shone and Shin knew right away whatever resentment he had been feeling was quickly shoved to the background at finally being recognized by someone.
“I’m Uzumaki Naruto! I’m gonna the next Hokage!-”
It seems it was enough to make him forget about me changing teams.
“-and also I’m Shin-chan’s best friend, believe it!”
Or maybe not.
“Seems like you’re popular, Shin-chan.” Ino teased, watching as a new argument began.
Shin sighed as Aoni threw Naruto a mocking smirk. “We’ve known Shin-chan since we were toddlers. If anyone is entitled to the best friend title, it’s us.”
Smoke came out Naruto’s ears but before he could say anything else, Kiba and his team showed up to join the party.
“Hey there! Would you look at that? It looks like the whole gang got together again.” Kiba spoke, thankfully diverting Naruto’s attention. “And who are these two with you, Shin?”
Hajii and Aoni introduced themselves to Team Eleven and soon enough they all fell in a loud chatter as each and everyone seemed to suddenly have some jab or provocation to say to one another. Shin fluttered about the large group, trying to keep the peace to no avail.
She failed miserably so someone broke out from the crowd of candidates to scold them.
His name was Yakushi Kabuto, and he had a lot of information to give.
---
“Now, Sabaku no Gaara. Mission experience: unknown number of D-ranked missions, 8 C-ranked missions and 1 B-ranked mission. There’s not a lot of intel about this kid. We all believe he’s a rookie from the Wind Country. But there’s one thing… he survived all of his missions without suffering a single scratch.”
Shin swallowed at Kabuto’s description of Gaara. If she had believed there was something off about the boy before, she was certain of it now.
Sure our mission to Wave Country was A-ranked after the whole Zabuza ordeal, but it was never meant to have happened in the first place. To be actually sent on a B-rank mission as a Genin… he must be strong.
Shin’s eyes darted around the room again, easily spotting the boy’s head of bright red hair. Gaara seemed to be in his own world, arms crossed over his chest as he stared at nothing in particular. However, feeling her eyes on him, he turned to her, green eyes unwavering as he stared directly at her.
Shin blushed at being caught staring but didn’t look away. She nodded at him instead as some greeting.
Gaara… I wonder if we’ll face against each other.
Shin couldn’t lie. The idea was as exciting as it was terrifying.
---
After some yelling from Naruto’s part - as per usual - and a weird attack against Kabuto by the Genin of Otogakure, the Village of Sound, Morino Ibiki, the examiner for the First Phase, arrived.
And so the First Phase began.

tagged by literally my damn self cause nobody tags me in these jawns anymore and I fucking wanted to do this goddamn it
Pick 5 shows, then answer the following questions. don’t cheat. tag 10 (or however many) peeps.
this is funny cause there are so few shows I’ve watched all the way through
Boy Meets World (cause I can watch it over and over)
Supernatural (even tho I quit in like season 12)
Pretty Little Liars
Brooklyn 99
The Good Place
Literally idek why I did this to myself I like don’t watch tv these days but damnit I’m committed now
1. who is your favorite character in 2?
um Sam ig? Yeah I think he was always my favorite but probably cause I big loved Jared Padalecki
2. who is your least favorite character in 1?
In this 90s sitcom? Is there someone to dislike? I chose the worst shows haha um.... I honestly was never a big fan of Rachel. She ain’t do nothin she just bored me
3. what is your favorite episode of 4?
BRO the mumps episode is forever iconic I literally never laughed so hard at a tv show
4. what is your favorite season of 5?
uhhhh season... 1 I think. I like all the other seasons but I think the first season really did the damn thing
5. who is your favorite couple in 3?
Haleb. By the end of the show I was honestly only watching to know what happened with them
6. who is your favorite couple in 2?
ha ha. none sorry the fandom high key ruined destiel for me before I even started the show and no others appealed to me
7. what is your favorite episode of 1?
You would think since this is a show I’ve watched 3493948 times I’d know off top. I think it might be An Affair to... Remember? Ironic that I can’t remember if it’s called an affair to remember or forget but it’s the one where Cory and Shawn can’t be friends because of Shawn’s bitch gf.
8. what is your favorite episode of 5?
The last one in season 1, whatever it’s called. Really hyped me up for the next season
9. what is your favorite season of 2?
Ummmmm hmm. I’ma say season... 5. I think. I mean it’s 2, 4, or 5. Good seasons for sure
10. how long have you watched 1?
Uh I saw reruns on cable every once and a while for like ever but I rewatched the show in full some years back, idk exactly when, and since then at least once a year I rewatch the whole show cause it’s just a lot of fun
11. how did you become interested in 3?
This is like lowkey gonna sound sad but I was on a group call with my friends in middle school and it was fun until the two of them started watching pll live without me and like forgot I was there. I felt left out and instead of hanging out I just sat there and listened to them watch the show and talk about it on the phone without me until the call ended and probably started watching the show like... immediately after
12. who is your favorite actor in 4?
Andy Samberg because he’s fucking GREAT
13. which do you prefer, 1, 2, or 5?
Ugh um. Idk those are like completely different shows. I mean comparing 1 and 5 are a little easier but even then. I’ma say 1 cause it’s... easier on the mind. I mean 5 got philosophy and shit and it’s fun and funny but I’ve honestly never said, huh let me go back and rewatch this season, which I’ve said about 1 many times. 2 too tbh but I’ma say 1 over 2 since I actually finished 1 and 2 is still going and i have no desire to catch up. Early season Supernatural might beat out bmw if I sit and think about it tho...
14. which show have you seen more episodes of, 1 or 3 ?
Uh 1? I think? Idk both have 7 seasons they probably have about the same number of episodes and I don’t feel like looking it up but I’ve certainly rewatched 1 more
15. if you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?
Um... Rosa? Yeah probably Rosa, what an icon honestly.
16. would a crossover between 3 and 4 work?
It would actually cause let’s be real the people in b99 would have figured out who A was in a single episode and could have ended the show before it got too bad haha
17. pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple.
I like highkey wanna say Cory and Shawn but they’re not even unlikely and strange they’re practically a couple. If they were bold enough for that back then, that’d be the true iconic love story of bmw. So since that’s over I guess I’ll just say Cory and Angela? Idk Topanga and Shawn came to mind but they don’t seem quite as unlikely on the real and maybe it would have been cool to see the main character be in an interracial relationship. Be cool the stories that might come from that. Damn... now I kinda wish that happened
18. overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5?
Fucking Good Place is beast like let’s be real they eat PLL for breakfast (I did genuinely enjoy PLL I swear lol) and they know when to quit while they’re ahead. Even if the constant reset to Eleanor and Chidi is driving me up a goddamn WALL
19. which has the better theme music, 2 or 4?
Uh idk I guess Supernatural because even tho I don’t watch anymore I can still jam tf out to Carry on my wayward son but then also to consider there’s the iconic I want it that way scene. But for the sake of the question I’ll say Supernatural
This was a disaster but I did it anyway sue me
@ipoddymouth @my---druthers @vibrant-falkon @hypermania @mrs-n-uzumaki @bellamyblakesz lol the thing is I do actually know ten people to tag I just have no idea what they’re doing with their lives and their tumblrs cause I really only still interact with the ones I just put down but whatever fuck it @bonneibennett @darwinquark That’s 8... that’s enough. Wait *edit* adding @succcdrake cuz you my friend toooo sorry I didn’t include you from jump? My bad?

here have 1,740 words out of 17,600 words of narusaku headcanon
.............i’m goin’ in deep y’all sry not sry (ok i AM kinda sry to those on mobile who have to scroll past this....... i wish mobile didn’t suck like that so you can avoid watching me be a huge dweeb instead of pro’lly what you decided to follow me for hnnnnggh)
these are 2 separate moments I came up with that I eventually tied together after some editing (/fantasizing about my own ideas) passes:
at a gathering with their friends, they both got insufferably cocky about a game involving pairs against pairs, and the stakes kept rising, eventually hinging on some pretty risky bets. when they lost, they were mortified in having to eat the brightly colored crow their friends (conspirators, the useless lot of them!) came up with. they had to temporarily dye their hair the other’s hair color, and couldn’t wash it out for a whole week (or use a genjutsu?). so sakura had to work around the hospital with blonde hair, and pink-haired naruto was at the mercy of his sharp-tongued genin students. people wonder if sakura meant to and if she wants to look more like her shishou, which is cool and all, but most everyone says they like her pink hair better, which is a relief. The most annoying part is the humiliation she feels since she had to do it as the result of her own hubris. he complains about the relentless teasing savagery of his genin students while they’re walking along the canal on their last evening of this punishment, but admits to sakura he doesn’t mind the hair so much and shares he’s often wondered what it’d be like to have his mother’s hair, and pink is similarly distinctive and beautiful and in the same color family. It’s the first comparison of one of her features to his mother’s he speaks aloud, and his heart starts racing because he momentarily forgets she doesn’t know about his mother’s words to find a girl like her. Completely unaware of his thoughts and sudden nervousness, she serenely replies, “I’m sorry she’s not here to experience how sweet her son can be to her… I wonder if she would have liked me? I think I’d have liked her” she actually doesn’t take his silence personally, sort of because she doesn’t think what she said requires a response, but mostly because she’s distracted. they get around some trees at the edge of the pathway right at that moment, allowing a beautiful view of the brilliantly warm-toned sunset. she makes a noise of appreciation and with a childlike wonder he hasn’t seen on her in a little while, she cheerily says, “this sunset has all our colors, Naruto!” “Yeah” he says, a little breathless. “All our colors.” He watches her until she notices (trrrooopey as fuuuuuuck, i know, shut up) and smiles real big at him but humorously admonishes, “Don’t look at me, weirdo! You see me all the time, but you don’t see the same sunset twice” then she faces it again. So he puts his hands in his pockets to stop their quivering as the scene soaks in and suddenly it’s just really hard to see her green eyes with his blonde hair. he turns to take in the sunset too, and he thinks, “she would have loved you, Sakura… we can bet on it” (originally all i’d written here was the first paragraph, and then I think my subconscious LEAPT OUT AT ME the next time I read it to provide this sunset scene -- they’re my rainbow sherbet fighting dreamers ninja family!!!)
~ & ~
In my headcanon world, Naruto and Sakura have five kids, two of which are adopted and three conceived. * I want to note here that I almost never go the “lots and lots of babies” route w/ my otp’s. 3 out of my top 5 do not go on to have kids in my interpretations of them. But for Naruto and Sakura it makes sense, and this is especially based in my conviction he would want to adopt and he would want a big family to experience the exact opposite of his childhood. So, yeah, 5 makes a lot of sense to me. I tend to think they are resistant to the idea of kids for a while bc of the threats to their lives, but they eventually decide they both really want to have kids after fostering two boys and it’s so hard to eventually let them go on to their adoptive parents. Sooo.. their youngest are twins; they’re named Konohana and Sakuya. And my reasoning for this, as well as for all the other names, is pretty in depth. Here: I first heard about Konohana from @yellowflasher‘s great fanfics. She has a Konohana and Kae (not twins), and I asked her once if she named Konohana after the myth, and she said she actually hadn’t seen or heard it before. It obviously stuck with me tho!! Uzumaki Konohana = from the Konohanasakuya-hime mythology. I just discovered with this name theme of using myths I coulda inadvertently referenced Kushina and Minato as well!! -- Kushina’s name could have been derived from Kushinadahime, a goddess of rice/life, and Susanoo is her husband, the god of STORMS aka Namikaze Minato. (Maybe other peeps in the fandom already knew this but I’m late to the party. Oh well! I was shocked when I learned this yesterday.) And it honors Konohagakure, and honors Sakura: ‘flower’ is part of the name. Konohana was conceived (twin to Sakuya)
Uzumaki Sakuya = from the Konohanasakuya-hime mythology. And see above for the comments about the possible Kushina/Minato connection. And it honors Sakura: it’s literally 2/3rds her name; one different ending syllable. & naruto calls her Momo-chan, and I explain why below.
After deciding all this, I came up with this moment: Naruto and Sakura love the names from the princess myth but also love they are referring to Konoha and Sakura. tho, because Sakuya can sometimes sound too similar to Sakura, confusingly so-- and as Naruto’s the only one who has to say both names in the household (y’know, because it’s either “Sakuya” or “mom” said by everyone else, the kids don’t call her Sakura) -- he often calls her “Momo-chan.” as a kid she’s not sure why but just rolls with it and then one day in her later childhood it dawns on her: orange + pink = peach (note: momo means the fruit and momo-iro means the color but I think naruto would just keep it short and simple as momo-- he’d probably argue an orange plus a cherry equals a peach anyway, somehow……... hahhh! I actually looked it up and peaches are in the same genus as cherries and apricots, and apricots are orange :P not that naruto would know this but sakura would be like me and probs research it lol). Sakura expresses concern that Konohana will feel jealous or excluded if he doesn’t give her a nickname too, and he forlornly / guiltily (at having not even thought of that) approaches Konohana with this. She’s rather young to be considering this so thoughtfully -- maybe 4 or 5 -- but her answer never changes as she grows up (though the vocabulary / phrasing she uses might mature…. But I say might, haha); “don’t change me; I love my name!! it is like our home so it means I will become hokage like daddy!! and it is like flowers like mommy’s flower so it means people are happy and have a party when i show up!!” (she’s talking about hanami) naruto immediately bursts into tears bc holy shit he just loves this kid so!! much!!! ( ᵒ̴̶̷̥́ _ᵒ̴̶̷̣̥̀ ) sakura’s doing better at keeping it together, tho not by much, lmao
Some months into the nickname of Momo-chan settling in, there’s a morning where it’s brought into question again. while sakura and naruto are folding laundry, the twins rush in from the backyard to show them something they’re excited about in their grubby cupped hands. “Look! loo~oook! polli-wolly-wogs!!” (tadpoles-- i have great affection for this term for them bc mei in the english dub of totoro calls them that, and totoro is a defining touchstone of my young childhood) naruto intones, “eeehhhh? How cool, konohana-chan!! Momo-chan! Maybe uncle Gamakichi knows ‘em, huh?” and they laugh and stick their tongues out at him, “he’s not our uncle! He’s a toad!” yet they’re making ribbiting sounds as they run off to return the tadpoles. Sakuya trips and just narrowly regains her footing at the last moment to prevent toppling herself and the tadpoles across the floor. “careful, momo-chan!” Naruto offers in a loud voice, but calmly-- he holds back his concern, as he’s learned that a lot of the time kids decide whether they should cry based on their parents’ reactions, namely whether they freak out a lot, and he’s done a lot of freaking out, and is trying something new now, pfft. He watches her right herself, check on the tadpoles in her hands, nod once firmly and give a determined “mm!” in acknowledgement of his caution, and they scamper off.
So then Sakura asks, with some humor in her voice even tho she’s going for annoyed: “naruto, why’d we even name her sakuya if you’re just gonna keep calling her momo-chan?” “aahh, sakura-chan. She’s just little momo to her daddy. Out in the real world she’ll be called the name inspired by her mind-blowing mom.” the tinge of pink on her cheeks does not get past him and the side of his mouth starts to twitch into a smirk. He roguishly continues with, “I thought about making you the one I address with a nickname instead, but all the ones I could come up with aren’t appropriate in front of the kids” she tries to look aghast but she’s fighting her mutinous mouth starting to veer into a big smile, and to distract his gaze away from this very visible and losing battle across her face, she twists a towel and snaps it at him. They play fight until they fall onto the bed, halfway into the now half-undone laundry. They rest a little bit, soaking in the calm moment, his upper body on top of her lower body-- resting his head on her stomach and holding her around her waist. Her eyes are closed and she’s absent-mindedly running her fingers through his hair. Then he softly voices, “little peach... she’s our colors, Sakura.” and she does vividly remember the sunset he’s recalling. She answers with his words from years ago: “Yeah. our colors.”
(god i’m really driving home this rainbow sherbet ninja family theme aren’t i???? Don’t care!!!! I love it!!! They are my faves they deserve everything I have to offer!!!!)
THE END.
(....except not bc..... there’s...... uh..... 15860 words left...... yeah those figures..... weren’t hyperbolic, i am actually that much of a dork)

Drabble for an AU I’m Writing
Hey guys, I wrote a fairly large drabble for a fic I’m writing. It’s just something small and unrelated to the story.
I hope you enjoy reading it a little haha.
Fandom: Naruto
Wordcount: 1419
Link to the actual fic: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12472329/1/Speak-no-Evil-Hear-no-Evil
There was something strange that occurred when Naruto Uzumaki slept in open spaces.
It wasn’t immediately noticeable. The blonde genin would first show all the signs of sleepiness and then find somewhere to settle down for a nap. Usually, he’d get comfortable under the shade of a tree, or against a stump, but sometimes he could be found snoozing away in patches of grass or under thick bushes. Naruto would grumble before shutting his eyes, his face falling slack as he dozed off.
For a few minutes that would be it. Just Naruto’s light snores and the sway of the growth around him, calm and quiet. Then, a sound would emerge. Its starting point would vary, the bushes next to the sleeping boy? The tree he’s lying under? Despite the varying places the sound may appear from, it would happen, without fail, each time Naruto fell asleep outside.
The disruption would soon reveal an animal of some sort. Sometimes, it’d be a family of cats, the mother guiding her kittens up to the sleeping figure and curling up beside him. Other times rodents, foxes, dogs, and just about any other creature you could conceivably find in Konoha. Most slunk in hesitantly, as if making sure the boy wasn’t dangerous to them, before lightly finding the most comfortable place to rest in the genin’s space and quietly settling there, trying its utmost to settle down as unobtrusively as possible. The movement might rouse Naruto, causing him to shift and spook his new companion, but he would quickly fall back into slumber.
This would open the proverbial floodgates, as different creatures would crawl out from the surrounding brush and cuddle up to him, fully intending on getting some well-needed rest. This might further disturb Naruto’s rest, causing him to mumble, before his face would relax again, his breathing evening out.
This is the scene that the rest of the Rookie Nine and their respective sensei’s would stumble upon. Kurenai had been the first to suggest a joint training session between the three genin teams. Asuma rubbed his beard for a moment and nodding his head in agreement. The two discussed a time and date, proceeding to then forcefully drag Kakashi along.
The place they chose to meet just so happened to at Naruto’s usual training spot, to the boy’s glee. His sensei had made the knowledge known by appearing on his windowsill, spouting off the place and time, and disappearing just as abruptly and as he came.
Naruto, who at the time was watering a plant sitting on that very window ledge, blinked once, then realized he couldn’t remember the time he supposed to show up. His eyes widened and then let out a strangled shriek, proceeding to freak out for the next five minutes, right up until he tripped on a pile of clothing he had left on the floor and fell face first into the wooden tiling.
Rubbing his sore nose, Naruto figured he could always just show up early and wait for them.
-
Naruto had shown up early. Too early, to most. Most people could say what they wanted about Naruto, that he was talentless, stupid, and definitely not ninja material, but they could all admit the genin was completely and utterly over the top. You could give the boy a bucket and tell him to fill it with water and he’d come back with three baskets of inedible fruit, live fish, and none of what you asked for.
In short, he tried to go so above and beyond in any task given to him that he usually ended up sabotaging himself.
It was the same for this. Naruto had reset his alarm, and in his fear of missing the meeting, set it to the earliest possible time that he thought the training session could occur. That time turned out to at around 3 AM, and so, an utterly exhausted Naruto woke up before the sun even rose, immediately filled with jittery anxiety at the thought of missing training. Naruto hopped out of bed, rushing to get dressed. He was out the door at 3:15.
He ran at a full sprint down dark and empty streets, taking a shortcut through the forest itself and bursting free from the bushes.
No one was there. This didn’t spark any second thoughts in Naruto, there was no epiphany in him that said, “Hey… maybe I arrived too early.”. No, the boy only saw this as an opportunity.
A smirk split his face, and despite the bags under his eyes, he was suddenly hit with a jolt of energy. If they see him training when they enter the grounds, they’ll be so impressed and finally take him seriously! The boy picked up his shuriken and loped cockily towards the targets. This lasted for all of thirty minutes before his lack of sleep caught up with him, hitting him with a dizzying wave of exhaustion in one fell swoop.
Now effectively impaired, Naruto plodded over to a patch of grass under a tree, fell to the ground, and leaned against the trunk, already unconscious. Time sped up the world around him. The eerie quiet and still feeling of early morning passed, the sun rising and sending sweeping rays across Konoha, waking up a slumbering town.
It was 8 AM sharp when Kakashi languidly stepped into the ground, nose in his book. He took a cursory glance at the clearing, before stopping short, inhaling harshly. Kakashi stared at Naruto’s sleeping form for a moment, before stiffly turning the other way, hopping into a tree, and shoving his book directly into his face.
At about 8:15, the other three teams filtered in, having all met up along the way to the training ground.
They all stopped dead, Kurenai and Asuma jolting back to avoid bumping into any of their students, because at the other side of the grounds laid Naruto, asleep under a tree, and utterly covered in creatures of varying shapes and sizes. The group crept towards Naruto with an air of perplexity while Kakashi, out of sight and with his chakra masked, watched them all from over the top of his book.
Naruto’s clothes scuffed with dirt and plant particles, dulling the color of his bright orange jumpsuit, a cat curled up on his chest. It had long, mottled fur, smeared in browns and oranges, and was flicking its tail ever so often. A small brown squirreled had itself burrowed into the crease between his arms, while a chipmunk lay sprawled across his stomach. Near his head was a fox with its muzzle stuffed into the crook of Naruto’s neck, fitting its small red body around Naruto’s shoulder and making happy wheezing noises every so often, and finally, in Naruto’s hair, was a small sparrow, wings drawn tightly to its body, eyes shut in slumber.
As Kiba stepped forward, to get a closer look or wake Naruto up, he froze. A small green snake uncoiled itself from where it had wrapped itself around Naruto’s arm, flicking its forked tongue out in the ninja’s direction.
Sakura let out a shriek, startling Naruto and all the other sleeping creatures awake by proxy.
“Wha- huh...?” he mumbled, raising the arm the snake uncoiled from to rub at his eyes, blearily peering up at the blurred shapes around him. The fox resting its head on his shoulder gave a long whine, while the chipmunk stood up on its hind legs and chirped haughtily at them, clearly annoyed by the disturbance.
Groaning, Naruto righted himself, carefully scooping the cat lying on his chest up into his arms while giving the fox a comforting pat. The sparrow nestled in his hair swiftly flew up into the tree Naruto sat under, letting out an aggravated peep and fluttering its wings.
Naruto squinted, “Eh...? Akamaru and.. Kiba? Is it that time already?”
It was then the cat in his arms flattened its ears against its head and hissed at the dog seated on Kiba’s head, causing Naruto to tense up and his eyes to widen. The blonde boy hopped to his feet, dislodging all the other animals and causing them to skitter back into the brush. The cat only lets out a weird trilling noise and pawing at his cheek with narrowed eyes, possibly annoyed at being jostled.
Naruto squeaked and his face flamed, causing the group to stare at Naruto for a long moment before they all let out an exasperated sigh.
Naruto had some explaining to do.

An Unexpected Addition
Category: Friendship Fluff/Mild Romantic Fluff
Fandom: Naruto
Characters: Naruto Uzumaki, Sakura Haruno, and Sasuke Uchiha
Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura splashed across the sidewalk, holding their jackets above their heads to stave off the pouring rain. The swell had come along unexpectedly while they were on a trip to the corner store to buy a six-pack of beer for a typical Friday night, and has caught then unawares. As lightning crashed overhead and thunder rolled across the story grey clouds, the trio of young adults hurried through the night to their apartment.
“Agh! This is my favorite jacket!” Naruto whined as he took the steps to the apartment two at a time, grimacing as the water pouring from the roof crashed over him like a violent waterfall, drenching him from head to toe. He shuddered as he felt the streams of storm water running down his back, making him wriggle uncomfortably. He stamped his feet on the mat as he bundled with his friends by the front door, and Sasuke cursed as he fumbled in his pants pockets for the keys.
“This sucks,” the raven-haired boy muttered, flicking his bangs out of his face and sending droplets of water arcing through the air. Finally, the boy managed to retrieve the set of apartment keys and shoved past the blonde-haired boy to stick them into the lock and open the door. Abruptly, Sakura unleashed a shrill scream, and the two boys glanced down to see a furry something darting past their feet to bolt into the entryway and scrabble across the linoleum floor into their kitchen.
“What was that?” Sakura wailed in distress as she clung to Sasuke's back, her jeans leg soaked from where the little creature had shot past her. Naruto raised his eyebrows uncertainly as he stepped into the apartment, following the little wet puddles of water down the hallway and into the kitchen. Whatever it was sat huddled in the corner of the room, trembling violently. It had curled up into a tiny ball, and so it was impossible to tell what exactly it was.
Sakura peered over his shoulder, blinking as water dripped from her bubblegum pink hair, and Sasuke came up on his other side with a raised eyebrow.
“What should we do with it?” Sasuke asked grumpily.
“Poke it with a stick?” Naruto suggested. Sakura blinked, and then grabbed the next best thing- a wooden spoon. She shoved it into his hands and shoved him forward, and the rapid movement startled the little creature, making it squeak in alarm and push itself father into the corner. Naruto swallowed and slowly crouched down, holding out the wooden spoon gingerly toward the little furball. God, I hope it’s not a rat! He thought with a small whine as he squeezed his eyes shut and prodded the sopping wet thing with the end of the spoon. He heard Sakura cry out, and his eyes shot open to see that the little creature had raised its head.
“It’s a kitten,” Sasuke remarked. Indeed, the small, baby cat was gazing at him with wide blue eyes. It was a bedraggled thing with matted gray fur and unusually big ears. The kitten mewed pitifully and came tottering over to him, and Naruto hastily dropped the wooden spoon to pick the kitten up in his hands. It was so tiny that it easily fit in his palm. He held the pathetic creature to his chest and stood up, turning around so the other two could see.
“Oh! It’s so cute,” Sakura cooed and reached out to gently scratch the top of the kitten’s head. Naruto smiled sweetly as he felt it begin to purr loudly. “Awww… Poor little thing. He’s drenched…” she frowned.
“I guess it must have got caught in the rain just like us,” Sasuke remarked, reaching out to grab a dish towel and toss it to Naruto. He caught it and wrapped the kitten in it, rubbing it vigorously to dry its fur and warm it up. The kitten made mewling sounds and squirmed in his grasp, making him snicker. Sakura walked to the cabinet to retrieve a bowl and then to the refrigerator to grab the jug of milk, and then squatted down to pour some milk into the bowl. Naruto bent down and set the kitten back down on the floor, smiling as he watched it totter to the milk sand begin lapping it up eagerly. Due to the vigorous rubbing, it’s fur was sticking out in all directions, like he was some fluffy pincushion.
“He is so precious! Oh, can we keep him?” Sakura laughed as she petted the baby cat happily. She looked up pleadingly at Sasuke, who snorted and looked away as he scratched his neck. Sasuke, being the major provider of the household since he was the only one with a job at the moment and the primary lease holder, had the final say.
“Please, Sasuke?” Naruto pleaded and clapped his hands together in a form of begging.
“Come on, guys, I don’t have the money to take care of some scrawny cat,” he mumbled as he gazed down at the bedraggled creature. It looked up at Sasuke and mewed, milk dripping from its little mouth. Sasuke raised an eyebrow and went lightly pink, then sighed heavily and shoved his feet deep into his pockets. “Ugh. One night, and then we take it to the shelter in the morning,” he compromised and went stomping off through the apartment, shoes squelching as he walked. Sakura and Naruto pouted in disappointment, while the oblivious kitten wobbled about exploring its new environment.
After the three of them had changed into warm clothes, they gathered in the living room with their six-pack of beer to sit in front of the television and watch the Friday night football game. Even though Naruto was the most interested in the sport, they still made a little tradition of it, because it was something to do and an excuse to drink. Naruto propped his feet up on the table and sipped his beer, and an eyebrow crept up as the little gray kitten scampered into the room and began nosing around. It wasn’t long until it sauntered up to the couch and began jumping up, meowing at them.
“Hehe,” Naruto smirked and bent down to grab it by the scruff and pull it onto the couch. It stood up on its tummy and stared at the television, its little tail waving, before yawning and curling up on his belly. It began to purr again, so loudly that its entire body vibrated, and Naruto smiled and stroked the little kitten’s back soothingly.
“Look at it, Sasuke,” Sakura pressed, wrapping her arms around her boyfriend's and tugging on it pleadingly. The man gave a sidelong glance at the kitten and sniffed, obviously not impressed. He just took a long swig of his beer and settled down into the couch, staring blankly at the flashing screen.
After finishing off the six-pack and a particularly uninteresting game, the three ended up fast asleep on the living room couch. Sasuke awoke groggily and was perplexed to feel a small weight on his chest, and he glanced down to see that the kitten had wound itself around his neck, snoozing under his chin. His eyes widened slightly at the slightly uncomfortable feeling of the fur against his skin, and as he shifted slightly, the kitten raised its head to stare up at him with wide, curious blue eyes. It meowed quietly, then licked his chin with its tiny, scratchy pink tongue. He felt the heat rise to his cheeks. Now that I think about it… It is kind of cute… he thought, reaching up with a finger to scratch it under the chin.
The kitten began to purr loudly, its eyes drifting closed in happiness. A smile formed on Sasuke's face; he couldn’t help it. Little furball…
“Well. Looks like Sasuke isn’t that tough after all, huh?” came a snide voice, and Sasuke blushed to see that Naruto was grinning stupidly at him. The cat raised its head at the sound of his voice, then hopped down from Sasuke's chest to crawl up Naruto's and begin licking his chin. His friend snickered and wriggled under the tickling sensation, petting the kitten happily. At the commotion, Sakura stirred and sat up sleepily, rubbing her eyes.
“Ah, he slept with us,” she smiled gently. “He has no idea that he’s about to leave, does he?” she added with a small sigh. Sasuke wrinkled his nose as surprising guilt welled up inside him, and as he watched the little kitten waddle over to Sakura and begin mewing. She looks so happy, he thought as his girlfriend’s face lit up with delight. Talking it a high-pitched, nonsense voice, she began playing with it, flipping it onto its back to tickle its belly. “Haha! It’s a boy!” she laughed.
“… Let’s keep him,” Sasuke said abruptly, and both Sakura and Naruto gasped as they looked up at him in surprise.
“Really? What about all that stuff about not having the money?” Naruto cried.
“Eh. I’ll be getting a promotion soon. Plus, he’s small, he probably doesn’t eat that much,” Sasuke smirked and reached out to pet the kitten. The little thing was still in a playful mood, and so it chomped down onto the end of his index finger, nibbling at it eagerly. “Huh. What do you guys think about naming him Nibbles?” he mused.
“Nibbles,” Naruto nodded in approval. “I think it’s great.”
“Yeah. Nibbles, how do you like that?” Sakura giggled and picked up the cat to hold it up in front of her face. The cat mewed happily, and that was how the three young twenty-somethings landed the unexpected addition to their family.
