#what if i was the one people coddled and offered sympathy to for once in my fucking life

"how dare you want to nuke mantle? oops guess we dropped an entire kingdom on the city we were trying to save. oh well." the people who were in the city were in the portals when atlas fell they were concerned about the people dying
. and the show acknowledged the whole ruby doing what ozpin did ruby got worried because of what ironwood looked like and it was acknowledged as a mistake . if your complaint was that they were harsh on ozpin ozpin and ruby arent the same in that ozpin lied to them for a while and has done that to alot of people
well before he went off the rails and decided bombing the poor was a logical choice, his original plan was to take atlas and leave. salem did not care whatsoever about mantle, which was what everyone was oh so worried about. her sights were set on atlas for the relics and the maiden.
in any case, ozpin lied ONCE and i have said this so many times. he did not lie for "a while", the only lie he told was that the relic had no questions, and given the fact that the kids immediately wanted to ask questions / wishes, it makes sense that he said so? beyond that, he was truthful about everything they asked about. it's wild when people wanna spin it to "okay well then he lied by omission" because no?? also he gave them a chance to leave and not take part in the fight and that he wouldn't shame them for it.
also let's not forget he was just recently betrayed by someone he considered a close friend (leonardo), so he reasonably closed off to work through that. if it had been rwby in his position, they wouldn't have been treated the way he was. that's why it's unfair he was treated "harshly", because if one of the girls had been in his position (which they were!!!), there would've been coddling and sympathy.
anyway, a general and headmaster looking disheveled is hardly a red flag considering two schools were attacked, argus was nearly destroyed, someone on the inside helped bring down an entire kingdom. can we blame the man for looking like a caveman?
and this whole time, he showed no signs of being an enemy up until he learned that the girls lied to him. he trusted them, welcomed them into his kingdom and brushed off their theft, he helped them get upgrades, he openly shared everything he had to offer. they had absolutely no reason not to trust him. there's no excuse about it.
also for the record, he wasn't doing much beyond surveillance and enforcing a curfew which, again, as much as it's disliked, makes sense given the state of their world? everyone calling him a paranoid maniac failed to remember that a kingdom was destroyed and another school was about to become rubble. he was hardly doing anything suspicious.

So hopefully I got in on time! Btw, I’ve been absolutely loving your HC’s, the stutter one was friggin adorable! I love soft Dabi, there’s not much of him out there in stories 😢
Anyway! I was wondering if you could do HC’s with Dabi for someone who may be deaf or just hard of hearing? Ifff your comfortable, I would love to see what he would do for a male s/o (or platonic friend/league member, etc, whichever you choose!) If you don’t want to do this it’s completely fine and you can switch it to ambiguous/female (I don’t know if you have ever done men before haha!)
Hello! I’m so flattered for this ask because you’re trusting me to portray something that’s personal to you and outside of my own experience. I can absolutely do this with a Male Reader (my first one!).
I’m not sure what type or level of hearing loss you had in mind, so I did my best with this and went with an acquired hearing loss that’s moderate-to-severe. Also, I wrote Reader as someone who wears hearing aids. I hope that’s all right, since that’s typically the case for those with more severe hearing loss (otherwise communication is really difficult to do, since I don’t suspect Dabi would know sign language). Also, I got a couple of cute ideas that I really wanted to fit into this that follow more of a friends-to-lovers sort of vibe rather than established relationship. Anyway, I hope you enjoy!

Headcanons for Dabi x M!Reader who’s Deaf/Hard of Hearing (HOH)
Warnings: None.
Word Count: 1240
💙 When you first join the LOV, Dabi will be skeptical at first, as he is with all things. How could someone with a hearing loss really be of any value to the league? He can’t help but wonder what skills you’re bringing to the table to that convinced Shigaraki to allow you to join.
💙 Dabi doesn’t interact with you right away... he prefers to observe. Part of it is that he doesn’t care for attachments, even amongst his comrades. Another is that he doesn’t expect you to last very long in the League. If he does interact, it’ll be through snarky quips and insults. After all, he loves getting under other people’s skin... it makes him feel like has an advantage.
💙 So, it goes without saying that Dabi will be a hard nut to crack at first. He’ll definitely have some crappy preconceived notions about people with hearing loss that he’ll get to face as he’s forced to get to know you.
💙 For example, he learns super fast that your hearing has little to do with your intelligence. You’re fucking smart and more than capable of handling yourself, much to his surprise. You quickly become an important member of the team, and even Dabi can’t really argue your value. It only makes his interest in you grow, his skepticism giving way to curiosity.
💙 Another thing he learns about you... you value your independence and hate when others coddle or dote on you due to your hearing loss. The first time Toga had tried to treat you as something fragile (granted she was trying to be nice), you’d quickly put her in her place. Dabi couldn’t help but grin at that exchange...
💙 The great thing about Dabi sitting back and observing everyone else most of the time is that he gets to learn by proxy how to interact with you.
💙 Don’t mumble or talk too fast. Don’t look away when talking to you. Talk more clearly, and slower, but for God’s sake, don’t treat you like you’re dumb. You’re hard of hearing, not stupid.
💙 Even with all of that taken into consideration though, he’ll notice that while you seem to do fine in one-on-one exchanges in quiet environment, you’ll withdraw more in group gatherings. Is the chattering of multiple voices too much? Is the noise overwhelming? Even he can’t always tolerate the prattling of the social butterflies of the group, so he wouldn’t blame you if it got under your skin too.
💙 His interest will finally be piqued when he watches you retreat during a rather boisterously loud game night amongst the League. He’ll follow quietly behind you, watching as you pass your own room in favor of the stairwell leading up to the rooftop.
💙 You don’t notice he’s followed you until he sits next to you. Your eyes betray your surprised at his presence.
💙 “What are you doing here?” you demand.
💙 He’ll give you a grin and a cock of his head. “You didn’t seem like you were havin’ much fun back there. Got anything to do with these?” he’ll tap your hearing aid playfully.
💙 You huff at him. “If you want me to hear you better, you’ll need to sit on my other side. My hearing aid battery died.”
💙 “You don’t have a backup?” he asks as he adjusts his position.
💙 You shake your head.
💙 “Doesn’t sound too bad.” He’ll tease. “I wish I could turn off my ears, especially when Toga laughs.”
💙 You give him a glare at his insensitive comment. “You don’t know what the hell you’re talking about.”
💙 He raises an eyebrow at you and think for a moment, before looking back out over the cityscape. “Why don’tcha tell me about it then.”
💙 You give him a skeptical look but he waits silently for you to continue. His smirk is gone as his sharp eyes glance back at you. He's serious.
💙 You’ll finally open up to him, explaining how hard it can be sometimes. How noisy environments can make your hearing aids nearly useless when the noise is too much, when everyone is talking at once. How frustrating it is to not be able to follow a conversation let alone participate, and how it can sometimes make people assume things about you. At best, they’ll assume you can hear fine with your hearing aids and therefore assume you’re being aloof or don’t want to interact. At worst, they’ll think your slow or stupid, and look at you with pity.
💙 Dabi will listen, but he won’t offer much up except sarcastic remarks about the others in an attempt to make you feel better. After all, sympathy isn’t his strong suit. But you’ll find yourself feeling better by the end, just grateful to be able to vent to someone.
💙 When you smile at him and tell him thanks for listening, it’ll take him by surprise. Not because of your reaction – he expected that, at least. What’ll surprise him is his reaction to it – a strange sense of satisfaction will wash over him, filling him with an unfamiliar warmth. He realizes - a moment too late, before he can bring down his barriers - that he likes seeing you smile, especially when it’s at him.
💙 You’ll feel slightly closer after that, finding more opportunities to hang out on the quiet rooftop and chat.
💙 He’ll surprise you on your next visit with a brand-new pack of hearing aid batteries. You’ll give him a suspicious look, asking where he got them and how he knew what kind to get you, but he’ll give you a wicked grin and brush off your question with an evasive comment.
💙 It won’t take long for you to start developing a crush on him, and against your better judgment, you find yourself staring at him a lot more and finding ways to be around him more. Hanging out at the bar, going on missions together, sitting next to him during the LOV discussions… you try to brush it off as ‘becoming friends,’ but deep down you know better.
💙 It doesn’t take long for Dabi to take notice and begin to suspect that maybe… just maybe… all of your secret glances and increased attention aren’t strictly platonic.
💙 What a wonderful turn of events. He wasn’t sure if you were interested in men, but now he’s 99% sure you are... or at the very least, interested in him.
💙 It leaves his skin feeling hotter than usual, his heart pounding in his chest with excitement. He wonders if you know... or even suspect... that he watches you too in mutual attraction.
💙 He’ll start testing the waters, just to make sure, of course. Hit you with a few flirty nicknames to see how you react. As soon as he sees you fluster and flounder in obvious embarrassment, he’ll know he’s got you, and it makes your exchanges only that much more entertaining.
💙 The more he learns about you, the more interested he becomes. He’ll start to do research on ways to support you with your hearing loss. It’ll be purely out of curiosity, of course... it’s not like he’s gonna go out of his way or anything. But he ends up finding himself down the rabbit hole of hearing aid supports, and learns about Bluetooth capabilities, FM systems, infrared systems... ways to send targeted noise – like speech for instance – straight to your hearing aids, bypassing any pesky background noise.
💙 It won’t take long for him to get an idea – two birds with one stone, so to speak...
💙 You’ll be on the rooftop together, when he says, “I gotta surprise for ya.”
💙 He pulls out a box that’s labelled ‘Dynamic FM System.’
💙 If you try to reach for it though, he’ll hold it out of your reach. “ah ah ah... we gotta find the right place to try it out.”
💙 He’ll lead you downstairs and you’ll think he’s heading to the common space where the others are, but instead he takes you outside of the hideout, leading you down the street.
💙 “Where are we going?”
💙 “You’ll see.”
💙 The two of you will end up outside of a bar. Not just any bar, though… the line of patrons is already a huge hint of what you’ll find inside.
💙 “Wait isn’t this….?” You’ll start.
💙 Dabi will only smirk at you though, before he grabs your hand and leads you in.
💙 Inside will be loud. So loud you have to turn down the volume on your hearing aids, and too loud for you to hear anything of value. But as you look around, your suspicions are confirmed - instead of the usual opposite sexes pairing up like you find at most bars, this one is different. Men are pairing up with men, women are pairing up with women. Your heart is beating like a drum in your chest, your pulse racing with excitement. Of all the places for Dabi to bring you…
💙 You keep close to Dabi, holding onto his arm. He loves that, loves that you’re looking to him for protection. And protect you he does, his eyes threatening violence to anyone who stares too long at you.
💙 He’ll sit you down at the bar with him in the center of the noise while drunken gay couples flirt over their drinks and a group of girls laugh in the corner. He’ll say something to the bartender, and a minute later, two fresh drinks are place before the two of you.
💙 He won’t try to talk to you yet as he opens the box and begins taking out all of the pieces. He’ll plug in the small, cylinder-like component into your hearing aid - the receiver. He’ll be completely up in your space when he does it too, grinning at you with his ocean blue eyes. In his hand he holds the transmitter that contains a button with a microphone on it.
💙 Once everything is hooked up properly, he’ll speak into the mic, his finger on the button.
💙 “Hey there.” He says. His voice comes through crystal clear.
💙 “Hey.” You smile.
💙 Once Dabi knows you can hear him, his devilish grin will widen and he’ll lean casually against the bar counter as he stares at you, his eyes drinking you in. “Have I ever told you how hot you are?”
💙 That’s when it finally clicks… Dabi is actually interested in you. And he’s taken you out on a date.
💙 BONUS: If the bar scene ends up being too much for you, he’ll be more than happy to spend the rest of your date on your favorite rooftop spot with some take-out. 10/10 will kiss you by the end of the date.

Trapped in a basement with your boss is the last place you want to be, for so, so many reasons.
There's the trapped part, of course, which is less than desirable all on its own and for obvious reasons. Neither of you had expected part of the roof to cave in as you were exploring the basement of this abandoned building, scouting it out in the hopes of finding someplace for the League to lay low for a few weeks. And Shigaraki could decay away some of the rubble, but without knowing just what the situation looks like on the other side, he'd decided it was better to wait rather than risk the entire thing collapsing inward onto him with one wrong touch. Kurogiri and the others know where you are, after all, and even though there's no cell service in this pit of a basement, the warp villain will be able to easily extract you once he realizes something is amiss and sends someone to investigate.
It's a sensible decision on Shigaraki's part. Sensible, but awful—for you at least. Because the second reason you really, really don't want to be trapped in a  basement with your boss is that you are, generally speaking, very much not a fan of dark, enclosed spaces.
And the basement is very, very dark, and not exactly roomy. It’s just large enough that your phone light helps some, but doesn’t beat back the inky blackness in its entirety. And Shigaraki, practical as ever, had turned off the flashlight on his own phone the moment he decided it was better to wait this out.
Which brings you to the third reason this is the last situation you want to be in: it's embarrassing enough to be a grown adult who's scared of of things like this without Shigaraki of all people finding out about it.
The universe, however, is apparently trying to actively punish you for something (the villainy, maybe?) because just as you're fretting over that possibility, your phone battery dies and your plunged into true black. It has panic blooming in your chest almost immediately, your teeth sinking into your lower lip in a desperate bid to bite back a whimper. You lean back against the wall, try to focus on the firmness of the concrete you're currently sitting on, and the coolness of the air on your skin, anything but your anxiety. Despite those efforts to maintain your composure, however, Shigaraki—perceptive as ever—seems to immediately notice something is amiss.
"Why are you breathing weird?" he asks, his words a confused huff. It's only then you realize you'd started sucking in long, slow breaths, in through your nose and out through mouth, trying to contain your nerves so that he wouldn't notice them.
Instead you'd given yourself away.
You know sound meek, your voice quivering slightly, when you mumble, "It's nothing."
You'd hoped he would leave it alone, drop the subject, but of course he doesn't. There's only a long silence filled with the sound of nails dragging over skin, and then an incredulous scoff. "Are you scared?"
There's no point lying about it now, shrewd as he is. Any denials you offered would be too feeble to be convincing; you opt for defensiveness instead.
"So what if I am? It's okay to be afraid sometimes," you snap.
You don't expect any sympathy. Shigaraki isn't particularly gentle or tactful, though the fact that he's lacking in those qualities doesn't much bother you. He's other things that you find admirable—smart, strong, a good leader.
Handsome.
So, you don't expect taunts, necessarily, but you don't any coddling either. It's surprising when you hear a faint shuffling next to you, and then feel Shigaraki's shoulder brushing up against your own before he makes an unexpected offer.
"You can hold my hand," he mumbles, sounding more uncertain of himself than you've ever heard. "If you want."
It’s actually enough to distract you from your fear for a moment. You wouldn't have thought he'd bother to try and make you feel better at all, and you certainly wouldn't have expected him to offer something like that, or even realize it might make you feel better.
"Really?" you ask. You feel suddenly shy, and it's not just self-consciousness about your childish phobia. The two of you have never really touched, which might not bother you now if it weren't for the fact that you have definitely thought about it, more than you probably should have in the month or so since you joined the League. Wondering what that scarred, pale skin would feel like under your fingers, or what those calloused hands might feel like touching you.
And now you suppose you're going to find out, because he grumbles, "Yeah, really." It's followed by the sounds of his fingers digging again at his neck.
"Okay," you say quickly.
"Hold on." There's more rustling sounds beside you, followed by a hand groping tentatively at your arm and then tracing a path blindly downward, long fingers interlacing with your own. "Is that okay?"
You're not sure why he's asking, or why it wouldn't be, but you hum an affirmative all the same. You're half-distracted by the feel of his hand in yours, and the fact that it feels funny—wrong somehow. After another moment and adjusting your grip slightly, you realize why feels so strange—he's wearing a glove. The fabric is soft, and you let your thumb stroke hesitantly over it and along his fingers, feeling the place where two of those spindly digits remain uncovered.
"I didn't think you ever wore gloves."
He fidgets a little. "I don't, really. I only had Kurogiri pick them up a few weeks ago."
You consider that for a moment—a few weeks ago. I.e., not all that long after you joined the League. A coincidence, you think—it has to be. But that doesn't stop you from asking, tentatively, "How come?"
There's another long silence, one that feels weightier than first. Then his thumb is brushing tentatively over your hand, running along your knuckles and tracing hesitantly over you palm, sending the skin there tingling.
"Because of this."

ATEEZ MTL: Most likely to date a curvy Latina
This is requested by @mingisbride (sorry, tags ain’t working properly)
Most Mingi San Yunho Wooyoung Hongjoong Yeosang Seonghwa Jongho Least
Explanation under the cut
Okay so, like with my previous ATEEZ MTL post, this would’ve been more for ranking how quickly or easily they would get into a relationship with someone who is culturally different (since I’m sure the boys would be with the person they really love no matter the differences). However, since that’s already been done, I’ll be focusing more on the body type. Again, just to reiterate, if they really love someone, they would be with them more for their personality than anything else. Also, upon looking back, I realise that it kinda turned into slight scenarios than cold-cut reasoning, and I slowly get carried away with each one... Sorry 😅😅.
That being said, the first one on here is Mingi. Can’t explain why, but he just gives me the vibes of someone loves warmth and comfort. Boy is a precious baby. From experience (’cause I’m curvy myself and I’ve been told this by my friends), curvy people are very huggable and we also give the best hugs too. So that warmth of being in someone’s arms would be something he would like to see in a partner--that comfort and love they can provide with such a simple yet intimate gesture. Simple answer, Mingi would be one of those love-sick people who would count the seconds until he could see you again--more importantly, have you in his arms again.
San. Second verse same as the first, because let’s be honest here; he’s also another precious bean. The only reason he’s lower than Mingi is because I feel like he isn’t as in-need of receiving that warmth and comfort since he provides quite a bit himself. San’s a giver--a lover, and an intense one at that. So I don’t think he’d be in as much need of it than Mingi, but he’d definitely wouldn’t mind at all. If anything, he would probably search for someone who’s as much of a giver as he is--someone who will give him bear-hugs at random times in the day, someone who would run their fingers through his hair when he’s stressed, someone who loves skinship as much as he does.
We’ve all seen Yunho’s hands. Look at how damn big they are. Would you ever expect me to believe that those hand’s don’t itch to have something to hold? No, you wouldn’t. Yunho just screams that person you see when you’re just chillin’ in public--the one who’s constantly holding onto their s/o’s waist, thighs, butt, hands--anything they can get their hands on (obviously, this should happen respectfully and must be okay with both parties involved). Yeah, that person that makes you want to puke and fawn at the same time and remind you that you’re so single it hurts--Yeah, that’s enough of that. Point it, being curvy would be the best thing for him because his hands just get very trigger-happy at the thought of feeling you in them. Again, being part of the Precious Bean Squad, he’d ask if it would be okay since he’s still very soft-hearted and doesn’t want to make you feel uncomfortable.
Now, Wooyoung in my eyes is a playful lover, making him one of the affectionate types. He likes to hug, to grab, to hold (kinda like Yunho, but a lot more light-heartedly). He likes to throw his body on top of yours when you’re lying down, looking at your phone peacefully--too peacefully. Wooyoung is just as needy as the boys above, but what sets him apart is because of how playful he is. He’s not as much of a giver as San, nor is he in-need as Mingi, or grabby as Yunho, but he certainly loves to have fun with his s/o. Body type doesn’t matter as much to him since as long as he just enjoys being with you--most of the time that would include wrapping you in his arms or any other form of movement constrictions so you just stay with him and hear him ramble about his day (I don’t think you’d mind much though). Being curvy just makes the experience softer, and warmer.
Hongjoong, ma boi. I’m sure we all know how open-minded he is. Hongjoong sees the beauty in everything, not from looks but from personality. Be it skinny or curvy, as long as you’re a good person and your personalities compliment each other, he’d fall for you so fast you’d get whiplash. I’m not joking. Being curvy would have it’s own benefit though, since he would definitely need comfort after a long day(s) holed up in the studio, hunched over his computer like a man on a mission. Coming home to you, letting his tense, rigid body relax against your much softer one would be like having his own portable body pillow. He’d even bring you to the studio but it would end up with him being at war with himself to get some work done or the very tempting offer of relaxing with you.
And then there’s Yeosang. Lil baby is shy, there’s no doubt in that. And purely because of this, he’s lower than Hongjoong. He’s too afraid to get into a relationship--too shy around you to even consider that you might want to be in a relationship with him. With Yeosang, it takes time and patience. There’s something wired in him which makes him seem blunt and sarcastic when he actually wants to compliment you. For example, the thought “you look beautiful today” would translate to “you look decent”. He tries though, and that’s when you can see it; it’s when you realise that he’s not just a natural asshole, but just has some trouble communicating. But with you, he makes that extra effort because he knows about all the insecurities you get (especially about your body) and he’d much rather throw himself off the moon than hurt you (ignore the physics of gravity and space for me and just roll with the metaphor). Patience and a bit more communication is needed with him, but once you two are there, you’re set for life.
The meticulous Seonghwa is second-to-last because, honestly, it was process of elimination. Thinking on it, he’d be less shy than Yeosang, but he’d have a harder time with communication. He’s the Mum of the group and so out of habit he’d end up being your mother in the relationship. That is, until you show him that you have a mind of your own and have been able to look after yourself, especially being an ‘ethnic minority’ in the very western media. Being curvy had given you certain experiences (good and bad) that’s helped shape who you are inside and how you deal with things. Don’t get me wrong, being coddled by Seonghwa is nice, but you feel a bit of sympathy and would rather just help him relax instead. So, now I think I can put my finger on why I put him so low down; he’s apprehensive about being loved and cared for because loving and caring is all he can remember doing. Let him feel that it’s okay to hug you not just for you, but for him too. You’ve just got a lot more love to give than the average person.
Jongho is even shyer than Yeosang and even more of a tough cookie than Seonghwa. Personally, I see him as the kind of guy who’ll keep his thoughts of romance to himself and try to get on with life without causing too much hassle for the both of you. Problem is, he enjoys being with you, and you, him; it’s just sorta become something strange. Not quite lovers... not quite friends either. A best friend would be close but still, there’s a bit more passion, a bit more touchy-feely between the two of you (obviously consensual, ‘cause we love that jazz). After a long few hours in the gym, he’s thinking of going over to your place, of lying down on your sofa, your bed, and just breathing in the same scent that appears to be some sort of drug for his mind. Then he shakes his head and decided against bothering you this late at night, until you pop up behind the  door he just opened--already knowing his schedule like the back of your hand--with a food bag of some of your ethnic food in one hand and your car keys in the other. It’s because you have this sense that he needs you today a little more than before, but at this point, you already know he’ll be just as closed off--especially when it comes to being with you. A stress reliever to him, you’ve come to understand, since you can’t help but feel the tension in his muscles melt away when his arms wrap so cosily around your body. Like they’re meant to be there.

Pretty Thing
Summary: You’re feeling down about your looks, to the point where it’s brought you to tears, but Sean is here to coddle you as you cry.
Pairing: Sean MacGuire x gn!Reader
Word Count: 1113
Rating: SFW
Tags: Crying, Body confidence, Angst, Fluff.
Notes: I saw this post that m’lovely @anarchist-lolita wrote, and decided to do a lil drabble based on it :^)
Tumblr media
Everybody has those days, the ones where we aren't too keen on what we see in the mirror; our clothes look off, our hair doesn't fall how we want it to, our skin looks full of blemishes. As foreign as the feeling may sometimes be, it's normal - to not enjoy the sight of ourselves. And sometimes that sight gets a bit too much, sometimes it weighs us down, often to the point of tears. You've found a secluded spot on the outskirts of camp, sitting amongst the trees, looking out at the landscape as you lean against a trunk. Today is one of those days, and you've trailed out of camp to let it out of your system, to have a cry in private, and to hopefully pull yourself back together. But no matter how much you cry, the feeling doesn't want to go away. You've been here for quite some time, sobbing quietly, questioning over and over as to why you're built like this. It's unfair, life's unfair; you're tired of seeing other people, always in awe at how flawless and perfect they look. But when you catch your own reflection, you can't help but look away, brows furrowing as you grumble in disgust.
You're so caught up in your feelings that you don't notice the bushes rustling nearby, or the sound of footsteps getting closer and closer, but you do jump out of your skin when somebody lets out a polite cough. "Shit," Sean yelps, looking down at you. "I didn't mean to startle you," he apologizes, and tilts his head in confusion as you look away. "You ain't alright, are you?" "It's nothing, Sean. I'll be fine," you brush him off. Sean shakes his head, and crouches down to meet your level. "Must be somethin' if it's got you in tears," he sighs. You know Sean's loud and proud, boisterous and full of personality, but he has a soft side, one that only seems to come out when it needs to. "You need a shoulder to cry on?" Sean offers. You pause for a brief moment, questioning if you want anybody's company. No offence to Sean, but sometimes you really need to be left alone; but today you're comfortable enough to spend your sorrows with a friend, so you give Sean a nod, your eyes still not meeting his as he sits down beside you. Sean doesn't look at you for long, but long enough to take in how drained you look. He leans back against the tree, fiddling with the hem of his shirt, unsure on what to say. You sniffle, bringing your knees up to your chest and burying your head in them, attempting to cover up the sound and sight of you crying. It doesn't take long for Sean to catch on to what's happening. "Hey, look at me," Sean says softly. You notice the way his face drops as he finally gets a proper look at you, his heart melting in his chest. "Oh, c'mere," Sean fusses, waving his hands in a beckoning motion. It's hard to resist the red haired man, especially when he's urging you to scoot over to him, so you do so, letting him wrap his arm around you as you nuzzle into the curve of his neck. Sean's cheek squishes against the top of your head, holding you tight in his arms. "Let it all out," Sean urges, and gives you a squeeze once the tears begin to flow again. Sean's humming softly as you cry into him, your hands gripping at the fabric of his shirt, his beard tickling your forehead. The more you cry, the more sympathy Sean feels for you; he eventually scoots you onto his lap, your chest pressed to his as you continue to sob against him. "What's got you feeling like this, eh?" Sean soon asks, his voice as soft as a dove. "...Just some things," you whimper, giving him a light shrug. "Things? ah, I know what it's like to have 'things' gettin' me down," Sean jokes, letting out a light chuckle as he pulls you tighter against him. "C'mon, love, you can tell Sean what's up, if you'd like," Sean offers. It takes a while for you to find your words, but you soon tell him what exactly has been weighing you down. It feels good, lifting some weight off your shoulders, telling Sean about how you're not too keen on what you see whenever you look in the mirror, and listing off the things you're eager to change. Sean's tutting every so often, even letting out slightly sarcastic sighs; you know he means well, this is Sean MacGuire, after all. Sean eventually pinches the bridge of his nose, his eyes screwed shut as he shakes his head. "Ah, are you hearin' yourself?" Sean questions, cutting off your rant. "Huh?" you reply, still buried in Sean's lap. "Oh, love," Sean sighs, "is this really how you view yourself?" You nod, and Sean lets out another sigh. "Hey, look at me," Sean urges. He gently cups your chin, and moves you to sit up in his lap, your teary eyes meeting his warm ones. "This is gonna pass, you know that, right? you may be feelin' like this right now, but that's just because life's gettin' you down. Cut yourself some slack, we can't all be perfect in our own eyes, but we can be perfect to others, ain't that right?" Sean explains, chuckling at the end of his words. "I don't think anybody out there finds me perfect-" "-I do," Sean cuts you off. "You may not, but I sure do," Sean tells you with a smile so sweet that it melts your heart. "Oh, Sean," you sigh, wiping a few tears away. "Yep, that's my name," Sean jokes, flashing you a toothy grin. "Honest, I'm no liar. You're a right pretty thing, and you deserve to know it!" You bury your head back down into the curve of Sean's neck, hugging him tightly; Sean squeezes you back, and smiles as you reply a soft "thank you." "S'alright, love," Sean replies as he cuddles you, his cheek pressed against your forehead. Your body has finally run out of tears, and your eyes fall shut as you relax against the Irish man. Every so often, Sean gives you a soft nuzzle as he checks on you, followed by a soft kiss placed on your forehead. His fingers fiddle with the fabric of your clothes, eventually trailing up to run his fingertips softly along your skin, still cooing you whenever he overhears you sniffle. "I'm here for you, darlin'. Sean Macguire's always here for you."

Hello. It's been a while. :) Post-Miracle Queen: There’s an Akuma who turns people into cute baby animals. During this state, people don't have memories as humans. They act like an animal would. Marinette gets hit and becomes the class pet until Ladybug fixes everything. Lila doesn't like this and having to pretend to coo over her rival. Her fake enthusiasm and plots to get Marinette banned temporarily from school gets her caught eventually by angry classmates.
Baby Mari
This is a draft
It’s annoying when your older siblings pull the whole “I’m older” card on you. Sometimes it can lead to deep, negative emotions. Something Hawkmoth takes advantage of when he akumatizes Perrine, fed up with her bossy older brother telling their mother she isn’t responsible enough for a pet yet.
So she is transformed to the Pacifier, and is heading for Dupont, where her brother is.
With a shake of her rattle, Pacifier sprinkles glitter on her victims, who turns into adorable baby animals.
The students were used to akumatizations and ran for it. Except Marinette couldn’t just leave Alya behind to film. And she got caught in the glitter as well.
Alya picked up a baby....bunny? (What? The ears could resemble pigtails when flattened)
https://youtu.be/_v94XqFW4Qw
Somehow Tikki avoided discovery. This is terrible. With the Guardian gone, Chat Noir will be on his own! Well, Mr Bug will be on his own, because the akuma has to be purified.
After Pacifier departed with her new pets, she went to find her mother.
School resumed. Alya had permission to bring Marinette to class since her parents didn’t allow pets in the bakery and it would probably take an hour for the akuma to be defeated. Otherwise, the bakery would be shut down for a while as Tom and Sabine looked through pet care guides.
As the class cooed over Marinette, Lila scowled over the loss of attention. With Chloé gone into hiding, there was one less contender for the spot of class queen.
Rose noticed Lila hanging back. “Come give her a pet Lila. She won’t bite. Marinette is such a cute bunny, and her fur is so soft!”
Lila plastered on a relieved smile, like she was glad people think she could get close to Marinette now.
Except as soon as the bunny smelled the liar, she instinctively bit the finger.
Lila: OW!
Lila recoiled, clutching her bleeding finger.
But instead of trying to comfort her, the girls actually chided Marinette in soft tones. “No, Mari, we don’t bite people.”
Alix: Wow, even in bunny form Marinette doesn’t like Lila.
Kim: you should go to the nurse Lila.
Lila: is no one going with me?
Everyone stared at her like she was being ridiculous.
Alya: Lila, it’s not a major wound. You don’t need us to follow you around everywhere. You’ll be fine.
Mylene: maybe Marinette’s hungry?
Adrien: does anybody have snacks? I have some Camembert but I read that rabbits shouldn’t eat those.
And just like that, Lila was dismissed from their minds.
As she stared in furious disbelief, Max glanced back to remind her to go.
That’s it. Time for the rodent to go.
Lila waited until lunch before grabbing Marinette with the lunch lady’s gloves. She just caused a food fight before grabbing Marinette as everyone turned to look at the spectacle.
As Lila headed to the second floor, she intended to drop Marinette from that height on the concrete, but the class quickly noticed her absence and spread out, calling for her.
Of course someone had to notice Lila was wearing gloves.
Lila quickly claimed she was trying to get Marinette to the safety of the class. That got her some gratitude, until wrinkled noses pointed out that Marinette must have confused rubber gloves for a litter box. Said gloves were currently dripping on Lila’s favorite shoes.
Alya managed to get Marinette out of Lila’s grip before she strangled the bunny.
Maybe she should try shooting the bunny instead. People hunt bunnies right?
Nah. Too much work.
Fine, how about insisting that pets are not allowed in school? But Damocles has been turned into a baby owl and Ms Bustier was all for letting the class bond over a class pet. ...is it too late to pretend she has a late-acting allergy?
Ooh. Lila’s got it. She goes to talk to a school assistant instructing some students on how to care for their new class Chinchilla.
Lila goes up, praising him for his hard work and knowledge but also offers her sympathies for cleaning up after the animal messes. And don’t they shed too?
Unfortunately the assistant turns out to be Mylene’s father. Wasn’t he supposed to be an actor? And he calls over Mylene to tell Lila where she put the gloves and poop bags.
And as for the shed hair, even humans have hair loss.
Mylene thinks it’s wonderful of Lila to volunteer for poop duty, but she shouldn’t be surprised. The excited Mylene hands Lila her new equipment before she can protest.
Lila is furious. But she eventually makes use of an opportunity to sweep Marinette into the pan and throw her into the dumpster. Everyone else backed off when Lila suggested they take her shift, hence they didn’t see Marinette getting swept up.
Except there was no way for them not to notice Marinette was missing once Lila had gone. Suspicious, Adrien stopped Lila.
Inside the pan, they found a stinky bunny.
Lila: oops, I must have accidentally caught her.
Adrien: how do you accidentally catch a bunny when her....um...business is smaller than she is?!
Lila: I don’t watch while sweeping.
Kim: that is just plain stupid.
Mylene: aren’t you supposed to be an expert at this sort of thing?
Lila nearly squawked in outrage at the idea that being a frequent volunteer means being experienced at clean up.
Alya: maybe you better take a day off? You don’t seem to have a way with animals. You can get away because the akuma is still out.
Lila couldn’t believe it. They were actually kicking her out. She was going to protest before Rose started insisting they give Marinette a proper wash.
Lila tries to volunteer for that but Max interrupted, “Sorry Lila. But with what has already happened, you’re more likely to choke Marinette with soap than otherwise.”
He wasn’t that far off. Lila would have likely drowned the baby animal.
Lila stormed out of school. As luck would have it, she crossed the Pacifier’s path.
A sprinkle of glitter.
Where once stood a teenage girl now stood a crow fledgling. Shame how nobody was around to witness this. Lila the crow lay helpless on the ground, until the Pacifier plucked her up and dumped her into a pram stuffed with other baby animals. It was a tight squeeze, and suffocating since the baby crow was smaller than the other animals.
It took some time for Mr Bug to defeat the Pacifier, though it helped that Pacifier was distracted by the sight of a baby bunny rolling around in flour.
When the Miraculous Mr Bug was cast, Marinette found herself safe at home. Lila found herself on the street sucking on a worm.
Lila spat it out. “Ew!”
Tumblr media
When Marinette returned to class, her friends still coddled her and pampered her, much to her bemusement. Lila just glowered from the back. She never wanted to see another baby animal ever again.
Caline: alright class, settle down! Welcome back Marinette. Since we had such fun taking care of Marinette, I thought of a fun project for home economics.
Ms Bustier moved aside to reveal hamsters in their own cages.
You have got to be kidding me! Lila thought furiously. Her assigned hamster likes to bite too.
To rub salt in the wound, Marinette and Adrien were the proud new parents of Fu the hamster.

Caleb X Herman: Accidental martyr
Since starting his arrangement with Herman, Caleb had to admit that his time in this neverending hell had become a lot more entertaining.
Whether it was getting roped into questionable experiments, late nights drinking cheap whiskey in the saloon, or his own sporadic visits to the old hospital, being around the doctor was a great way to alleviate the boredom between trials.
Unfortunately, that often came at the cost of Caleb’s sanity.
This moment was a prime example of such an occurrence. After Herman had showed up to their latest encounter with a torn jacket and fresh wounds, Caleb was practically forced to play doctor to make sure the man didn't succumb to his injuries.
That didn't mean he had to be nice about it, though.
“Figures ye’d be cocky enough to try to take the bitch out on yer own,” Caleb snarked.
He attempted to clumsily dress one of the numerous gashes marring the doctor’s shoulders; the Entity’s handiwork, no doubt.
“What can I say? I’m a man who likes to push the limits—shit!” Herman hissed out a curse when Caleb tightened the bandage a little too forcefully.
“Don’t do it again,” Caleb growled, masking the uneasy feeling in his chest with anger.
Herman waved off both the threat and concern with a simple "Yes, yes, now get on with it" and Caleb went back to his mediocre job of caring for the wounds.
Since that first night in the saloon, they’d never talked about whatever this was between them. And that suited Caleb just fine; he was a man of few words, and if anything, he should thank his luck that the blabbermouth he kept for company hadn’t deemed it a subject worth discussing.
Tumblr media
Apart from a few snide comments of Herman getting his ass kicked by the Entity, Caleb didn’t bring up the incident again.
And he’d probably have forgotten about it completely, if he hadn’t happened to pick up some spare parts from Autohaven a few days later.
“Are you alright?” Philip asked as soon as Caleb arrived at their designated meet-up spot.
“Just dandy,” Caleb drawled, inspecting the Wraith’s latest haul of scrap from the junkyard.
“You don’t have to act tough, Caleb,” Philip insisted, clearly not getting the hint.
Caleb whipped around to give the other killer a properly disgusted look that he hoped conveyed just how little he appreciating being coddled like a damn child.
“It’s okay; we’ve all been there. I understand,” Philip said, giving a look of sympathy that made Caleb’s skin crawl.
“The fuck you on about, boy?” Caleb spat.
“The Entity,” Philip said.
The Wraith flinched at his own words, quickly glancing around to make sure nobody was eavesdropping.
“It… punishes us when we’re not brutal enough or efficient enough,” Philip said, lowering his voice. “And after your leg—there have been rumors, you know.”
Caleb felt the anger bubbling up. Not only did he hate people bringing up his brief time of injury and subsequent uselessness in trials, he also had an inkling of just who had been spreading these specific rumors.
“What kind’a rumors?” Caleb asked.
“You’ve been going to the hospital a lot to treat your wounds,” Philips said. “Herman even had to borrow ointments from Sally, since you’ve been coming in so often.”
Caleb’s eye twitched as he tried to reign his temper. Herman knew damn well that Caleb was insistent on keeping their whatever-it was a secret, yet he seemed to happily gossip to anyone he came across.
“‘Scuse me,” Caleb said. “I’ma need to have a chat with the good doctor.”
Tumblr media
When Caleb slammed open the door to Herman’s office, the man didn’t even flinch.
“I’d prefer if you didn’t break my furniture,” the doctor merely offered, not even looking up from his book. “I could hear you stomping here from across the hospital.”
“You,” Caleb snarled, grabbing Herman by the collar. “What did you do?”
“You’ll have to be more specific than that,” Herman said, infuriatingly calm even when face to face with a very dangerous and very angry gunslinger.
“Why does Phil think I’m gettin’ beat up by spider-bitch?” Caleb spat. “Why does Sally know I’ve been comin’ here and you need a bunch’a salve for it?”
“Oh,” Herman said, finally getting his point. “That’s not something you should worry about.”
“Try me,” Caleb snarled, tightening his grip around the man’s jacket collar.
“It might be easier to talk without the strangulation,” Herman countered, his voice strained from the pressure on his neck.
Caleb released his hold but didn’t back off, crowding the man against his office chair.
“Then talk,” Caleb commanded.
“Very well,” Herman said. “As you may or may not know, our Eldritch overlord closely monitors our performance in trials. However, if said performance isn't up to par, it isn’t afraid to take disciplinary measures.”
“So ya didn’t fight it, it fought you? That what yer sayin’?” Caleb asked.
“In a way, I suppose,” Herman said, still annoyingly secretive.
“So what’s that gotta do with me? And stop fuckin’ horseshittin’,” Caleb said.
“Well, in a nutshell,” Herman paused, as considering how to phrase the message simply enough for Caleb to understand. “There was word of the Entity being more agitated than usual. I concluded it was only a matter of time before it chose you as its target, and as a precaution, I deliberately attempted to draw its ire.”
If Caleb was confused before, he was even more so now. The doctor had… volunteered to be the Entity's pincushion? And for what?
“Why?” Caleb asked, hesitantly stepping back from the man and his unknown motives.
“You’re my patient,” Herman simply answered.
“Oh, like these sorry fuckers?” Caleb said, pointing at a human heart sitting neatly in a jar on the desk. “You wanna cut me up yerself, that it?”
“...No.”
“Then what? Ya get off on bein’ tortured?” Caleb prodded, angry at still not getting a real answer. “Well, what is it!?”
“I don’t know!” Herman snapped, slamming the book shut.
It was the first time Caleb had seen the doctor lose his composure, and on reflex he reached for the empty holster on his hip.
“I’ve spent over a decade studying the human psyche, and I don’t know,” Herman said, moving to stand up. “I have no illusions of morality, yet seeing you in agony over your leg—”
“I was fine!” Caleb rebutted.
“The thought of inflicting more pain on you was simply out of the question. So I offered myself up in your stead, until you were recovered. And then I… just kept going.”
“Hold on,” Caleb realized. “You’ve—for all this time!? It’s been, what, months?”
“Fifty-three days, according to my calculations,” Herman said, so matter-of-fact.
“You’re fuckin’ bonkers,” Caleb said. “That shit ends now! ‘M not about to let you deal with my punishment!”
Herman was silent, for once, and Caleb could see his jaw clenching and unclenching. There was a sudden realization that Herman probably felt the same way that Caleb did, a few days ago when he saw the man badly hurt.
Protective.
The anger slowly released from Caleb’s body, and he took a step toward the doctor in a silent peace offering.
“I’ma big boy, doc,” Caleb said. “Been through shit none of yer experiments even come close to. I'm not fuckin' made o’ glass."
"I realize that," Herman said, sighing. "It wasn't my intention to patronize you."
"Pfft, like that ain’t your goal most days," Caleb shot back, the good side of his face drawing into a smirk.
"Well," Herman said with a dry chuckle. "Not in this particular instance."
An apology was left unsaid, but Caleb didn't want one. Still, he kept unwavering eye contact, waiting for a promise that never came.
"And?" Caleb asked when neither of them were budging.
Herman sighed in annoyance, most likely peeved at having been out-stubborned.
"I will make sure it doesn't happen again," Herman reluctantly assured.
"Good," Caleb said, and then inexplicably felt unsure about where that left them. "So, uh… we good, or…?"
Herman smiled. He usually just grinned, or giggled or laughed like a psychopath, but now he looked stupidly handsome with a smile stretching over his lips and making his eyes crinkle at the corners.
"Splendid," Herman said.
Caleb could only withstand another few seconds of looking at the damn smile before his patience ran out.
"Get over here," Caleb said, tugging the doctor closer by his lapels and into a kiss.
They didn't do this often, and feeling the warm, chapped lips against his own, Caleb couldn't help but think what a damn shame it was. After the injury to his jaw that felt like a lifetime ago, Caleb didn't think he'd be doing much kissing for the rest of his days, but Herman never seemed bothered by it.
Large hands settled on his hips and Caleb could feel the dormant energy lying underneath, electricity always at the doctor's fingertips. It was absurd to think that their hands, constantly used for killing and more often than not caked with their victims' blood, could be used to hold each other this gently.
Realizing he was getting alarmingly sappy from nothing more than a kiss, Caleb pulled away from the liplock and reluctantly stepped away from the doctor's embrace. He adjusted his hat in an attempt to hide the reddening of his sickly pale cheeks.
"Alright, now come on," Caleb urged, cocking his head in the direction of the door.
"Are we going somewhere?" Herman asked.
"Yer comin' to Glenvale where I can keep an' eye on ya," Caleb said. "Don't trust ya not to break a promise."
The words came out harsher than he meant to. Luckily, Herman didn’t appear to take it personally, instead going to grab some of his things without any further fuss.
"If you wanted a romantic getaway this badly, you should have just asked," Herman teased.
"Shut up," Caleb said half-assedly.
Watching Herman pocket a jar of an unknown substance, Caleb suddenly remembered something crucial.
"Oh, one more thing," Caleb said.
"I'm all ears.”
“Tell Sally to keep ‘er fuckin’ trap shut,” Caleb snarked.
He received a fit of maniacal giggles in return, and Caleb realized that the sound that once grated on his nerves now brought a sense of belonging.
He still didn't know what this was between them, but he'd be damned if he let it go.

Twilight Spite: When the Tables Turn
Well, since Midnight Sun is coming out later this year, I figured I’d dust this off and share a “what if”.
__________________________
Nobody quite knew what to say to Leah’s announcement.
“Bull.”
Well, almost nobody.
“Sam.” Billy Black called, a warning in his tone.
But the alpha didn’t seem to hear him, remaining resolute as he glared at Leah. “There’s no way that it’s true.”
“Well, it is.” Leah replied with a smile that totally wasn’t a smirk as she watched his growing outrage. It said something when not even the touch of his precious imprint could calm him. Leah could practically see the fur starting to form on his skin as he barely held back his transformation.
“You’re making it up. She has to be making it up.” He insisted, turning from Leah to the rest of the Council, his words taking on an almost pleading lilt as he looked to them for support.
But the Council members seemed hesitant. Uncertain, even. Because…well…it could very well be true.
“I assure you, I was just as surprised as you when it happened.” Leah proclaimed sincerely. Because, well, she had been surprised.
___________________________
“Hello, Leah! We come in peace! And with a special offer just for you!”
It all started with an appearance by an overly cheerful vampire bearing an offer she couldn’t refuse.
Well, that wasn’t quite true. Everything really started with her boyfriend disappearing, then coming back only to break her heart and dump her for her cousin she just met, and said cousin deciding it was totally cool to break her heart further by getting with him regardless. The whole reservation cheering them on certainly hadn’t helped. Nor had turning into a wolf and having to have their “happy relationship” shoved in her face AND her head. Nor her father’s death, which seemed to be her fault for reasons she hadn’t known of and couldn’t control, and no one would so much as give her time off to grieve for. Being used simultaneously as a scapegoat and wank material for a group of teenage boys was just the fucking cherry on top.
So yeah, the unexpected visit from the leech wasn’t technically where it all started.
Just where it finally started getting good.
Alice was…perky. Annoyingly so. The more time she spent in her presence, the more Leah was certain that was as much of a permanent, unchangeable aspect of her personality as her annoying and incessant need to know and control things.
Leah was apparently another thing to control. If that wasn’t a common trait shared with everyone else in her life, Leah would find herself particularly insulted and ready to attack.
As it was…well…at least Alice had an offer to make it worth her while.
Given that this offer was coming from the enemy of her tribe, the obvious answer shouldn’t have just been “no”, it should have been a clear and resounding “hell no” followed by a death gurgle. But Leah’s tribe hadn’t been the most loyal or supportive by this point, what with the cheating and disparaging comments and the constant degrading of her when she’d already suffered so much because of them. So no, Leah wasn’t feeling particularly loyal in return.
To the contrary, she was feeling particularly petty and vengeful—which they all knew and not only did nothing to help, but actually went well out of their way to encourage and nurture within her. So really, it was their own fault if she made the choice to give them the finger.
So that was why she decided to at least listen to the leech’s offer.
And oooooh, what an offer it was.
It was no secret that Leah….kind of hated her life at the moment. And could anyone blame her?
…okay, yes. They clearly did. Acting like what Sam and Emily did was HER fault, that them leaving her was deserved, and that her transformation—a traumatic experience for her, by the way and one that cost her her father’s life through no fault of her own—was something she should be happy with. So regardless of the situation and how much she never wanted it, she should just “shut up and deal”.
But could anyone who WASN’T part of the “all boys’ club”, only there for the free—if plastic-like food from Emily, or otherwise had their heads up Sam’s ass blame her?
Alice couldn’t, surprisingly enough. And maybe it was all a trick to get her guard down and have her help their enemies, but it kind of said something when the freaking soulless vampires offered more sympathy for her situation than her own family.
Yeah, thanks Mom. Thanks, Seth. THANK-FUCKING-YOU, EMILY. REALLY appreciated the support during her time of need. Always great to have your family with you...on the other side of the house, setting up dates with your father’s best friend, gushing about how “awesome” your ex is after he crushed your heart, and picking out wedding dresses to be married to your ex in not even a year after he dumped you for her. Family of the fucking year, let her tell you.
And yet she couldn’t help but love them still. How sick was that?
It was messed up. The whole situation was. She couldn’t deal with it there, not with them, not while everyone just wanted her to shut up and smile like she wasn’t being torn apart inside.
So when Alice approached her with a promise to help, Leah found herself surprisingly willing to at least hear her out. She expected to laugh at whatever she offered. She expected to tear her a new one. She even expected to go to the Council and warn them of the trick.
She…never expected she’d be agreeing to it.
“We don’t want a war.” Alice assured her, pleading. “We like Bella. And we like it here in Forks. We don’t want to fight. But the Volturri know about Bella now, and they are insistent she HAS to become a vampire to preserve the secret or else THEY will kill her, and possibly all of us.” She let out a breath, looking up at Leah in worry. “And possibly your people as well once they discover you.”
Okay, she had a valid point. But…
“Why not just go to Sam and the Council about this?” They were all about “keeping the peace” over all else—Leah was on the receiving end of THAT well enough to know. So surely they would be on board with this one sacrifice to keep everyone else safe.
“It’s the truce. We can’t come onto your land. And the wolves we’ve spoken with have been…very insistent on us not turning Bella.”
Ah, Jacob. Yeah, sounded about right. The brat had been doing nothing but moaning about Bella and her preference for dead guys who could give her immortality and a fancy life over him and his…him. Even in the same breath he shot snide comments at Leah for losing the relationship she—y’know…ACTUALLY HAD.
Not that she was resentful about the blatant bias and double-standard or anything as everyone coddled him for a relationship with a girl that was clearly never “in” to him in the first place. Not at aaaaaall…
“Why come to me with this then?” Surely they had to know that she…wasn’t exactly a pleasant person to work with right now. Even—especially with her own people, much less outsiders. And that out of everyone, she would be the least inclined to work with the monsters directly responsible for her people turning into wolves and effectively ruining every aspect of her life because of it.
YES, she was still bitter about it. And she would be for a long time. Maybe the tribe should invest in some therapy instead of a new house for the “happy couple”?
“Because you’re the best choice, Leah.”
AKA, “I used future sight and this was the result I liked.” Leah wasn’t sure she liked the idea of placing bets with someone who used visions for everything the way most people use their cell phones.
“You’re clearly not happy here, but you can’t do anything about it. We could help each other!” Alice explained, rocking on her heels. “I know you don’t like us, but you don’t want a war anymore than we do.”
There was a tense pause.
Then Leah sighed.
“Fair enough.”
Alice cheered up at that, smiling widely. “Great! So if this works, we’ll take you with us when we leave Forks in the next year. We’ll give you money and documents—anything you need to set up a new life! You could go to college! Ooo! You could go to a really fancy university and get a fashion degree and become a model and marry a rich socialite and—!”
Okay, cutting that off right now. “And in exchange?”
That got a frown—though whether it was because she cut off Alice’s gushing rant or because it reminded her of just what she was asking Leah to do, it was a bit hard to tell.
“In exchange, we need you to do just one thing…”
___________________________
“You can’t be serious, Leah.”
“Dead serious.” Leah replied, cackling madly on the inside. But on the outside, her eyes seemed to shine with a joy that anyone could be convinced was because of her claim. A claim that had half of the room sending one another glances of abject confusion, and the rest of the room as some variant of enraged and—in Emily’s case, probably secretly happy.
“It’s just…it’s not possible!” Sam insisted, sounding almost desperate.
“Neither was a female wolf, and yet here we are.” She said with a blithe shrug.
She’d been bitter and “a harpy”. Everyone knew it. Everyone held that against her, regardless of the reasons all of them knew yet none of them wanted to acknowledge were wrong. Even those that sympathized were pushing her to simply “get over it”, completely blind as to why she was acting the way she was.
It was only because she was stuck in a situation forced on her—one where she was trapped and degraded and imposed upon in every way possible, and forced to defend herself the only way she could.
But now she could fight back.
And by every single god out there, she was damn well going to use it. Even if she had to lie through her teeth. Even if she had to fake feelings she didn’t have for someone she didn’t like.
If that meant getting some sweet SWEET payback on her ex? And throwing his own actions and justification for those actions back in his perfect little face? Well…
“I imprinted on Edward Cullen.”
Watchu gonna do about it?

Chapter Seventy-One
Stepping outside of the oppressive atmosphere of the Ark, I found that Lincoln hadn’t gone far to escape after his attack.
He stood leaning against the structure, staring into the distance in what I could only assume was an attempt at calming himself and as I stepped closer, I noticed that he wore an intense expression. There was a stream of blood down the side of his face from the deep gash in his head, which clearly needed stitches and I leaned carefully into his eyeline.
“Linkon.”
I addressed him gently, speaking in Trig to ensure that our conversation would remain private as I pulled his attention from his thoughts and as he met my eyes, I could see his vulnerability which flared my protective nature.
“Let me take a look at that.” I offered as I gestured toward his wound and he took a moment to consider me, before bending down to my height so that I could reach.
Using the rag that I’d taken from inside, I gently wiped away the blood from his face and examined the laceration with a grimace. My temper bubbled in my stomach as I treated him, wishing that I had the strength to beat some sense into his attacker, but I had to force myself to remain calm. He already seemed to be battling his own emotions and it would be selfish to allow mine to influence him now.
“This is a deep wound, Linkon.” I advised as I gathered the rag and pressed it over the wound to protect it, ensuring that it was completely covered. “Hold this here for now. You need to keep the pressure up until we get to Medical.”
“No.” He answered abruptly as he took responsibility for holding the rag, but straightened his posture so that he was out of my reach and it was clear that he was not ready to face Abby or the others yet.
“They’re wrong about you.” I stated firmly, unwilling to allow him to sink into despair and he studied me with an unreadable expression. “You do belong here, but not because you are no longer Trikru. You are still one of them, too. In fact, I would say that you are their most valuable member, because you were willing to leave behind everything that you know to help them.” I divulged, pausing to shuffle slightly as he met my eyes and I smiled as I continued.
“We both know that our medical knowledge could help your people enormously. We also know that because of our weaponry, going to war would cause countless deaths for your people. That’s why you are doing everything that you can to secure peace and a better life for them. Your people may not recognise what you’re doing for them, but I do.” I rambled, holding his eye contact unflinchingly and he sighed as he absorbed my words.
“Your people still view me as just another grounder.” He stated with frustration, allowing himself to lower his internal walls to me and I nodded in understanding. “They do not care for all that I have sacrificed. To them, I am no different to Azgeda. Will it ever be enough?”
“You’re entitled to be hurt by what just happened in there. I would be too, especially after everything that you have done for us. It’s vital that you remember that the people responsible for this unacceptable incident are ignorant, small minded idiots whose opinions do not represent this camp. The people who supported you before we found Farm Station still support you. You haven’t lost anything, Linkon. We still consider you one of us and we always will. Oso thro daun ageda.” [We fight together.] I asserted, passion filling my voice as I spoke and I watched as the hurt in his face gradually melted away, until he smiled appreciatively at me.
“Oso thro daun ageda.” He repeated calmly, his eyes sparking with emotion and I smiled at him in return. “You have become a wise warrior, Indigo kom Trishanakru. You would make an exceptional second to Arlo.” He praised, causing my heart to swell at the kindness of this compliment and I touched his arm in a fond gesture.
“Thank you, but I’m plenty busy enough with keeping an eye on all of you.” I remarked with a cheeky wink, before fidgeting to regain my balance as my head spun again.
“I have to get back to Medical. Come on. You can help me and get your head treated whilst you’re there.” I instructed in the hope that he wouldn’t fight me this time and he simply nodded slowly, before falling into step with me.

The ward was surprisingly busy when we entered, as they seemed to be overwhelmed with sick grounders and though I was taken aback by this sudden development, I focused on handing Lincoln over to Abby for treatment. She seemed relieved when she noticed us and led him to a bed to examine the wound.
Kane rushed into the ward with Pike following close behind him, both making a beeline for Abby and I decided to return to my own bed, suspecting that Lincoln would likely already be overwhelmed enough with them arguing around him, without my contributions.
I’d only just placed myself sideways on the mattress, my hands on my knees as I stared at the floor and waited for my dizziness to pass, when I felt someone approaching me.
“I heard that you were hurt.”
A strikingly calm voice announced and I glanced up to find Nyko examining me with the same controlled face that Lincoln often wore. It had been a while since I’d last seen him, but I could tell that he had a similarly noble nature to Lincoln and I appreciated that he continued to support his friend in securing peace.
“Good to see you again, Nyko.” I smiled politely, shifting my position so that I could view him better. “I’m alright. Just need a bit of recovery time. How are you doing after your treatment?” I enquired, remembering how severe his wounds had been when he last came to us and hoping that he’d managed to recover well enough without our assistance.
“I am much better. I wish that I could say the same for my people.” He answered regretfully and I glanced around the ward to notice that many of the grounders here were either coughing, or vomiting. “There was a sickness in a village nearby. Many recovered quickly, but some have not been able to fight it. Abby offered to help them.” He explained, seeming exhausted as he glanced back at them and I regarded him with sympathy.
“Well, we have to take care of each other, right?” I offered with a warm smile and he seemed pleased to discover that I was supportive of this decision. “I’m sorry. Any other time I would offer to help, but getting Linkon here has kinda wiped me out.” I confessed, feeling utterly useless for my current weakness and Nyko nodded in understanding.
“Abby said that you were badly hurt in the attack. I am sorry for what happened at Mount Weather.” He remarked with an expression of genuine remorse and I flashed him a grateful smile. “Rest well, my friend.” He muttered as he bowed his head to me, before returning to caring for his people.
With a deep sigh, I laid back on the bed to catch my breath and stared up at the ceiling, struggling to focus. Everything felt more draining than I was prepared for and I already grew tired of my new limitations.
Hurried footsteps warned me of Jackson’s arrival as he frantically ran around me to take another set of obs and it seemed that he was too flustered to even hold a conversation as he worked. His pen scratched rapidly over the charts as he filled in the results and once it seemed that he was satisfied with his findings, he rushed away to care for the rest of his patients.
Abby was still attempting to treat Lincoln whilst also balancing an argument with Pike and Kane. As I watched her struggling to multitask, I understood why she felt that she needed to pass on the role of Chancellor to someone who could give it their full attention.
“Lincoln. We need to set an example.” Kane pleaded, allowing a slight hint of his anger over this incident to peek out from his careful demeanour and I smiled.
Kane’s consideration for Lincoln gained my respect, as I had never expected for him to be as accepting when we first met and was pleasantly surprised at the leader that he was blossoming into. Meanwhile, Pike sighed at his side, as he fidgeted around in a stressed manner.
“Yeah. We do.” Lincoln muttered, clearly far more relaxed than he was when I first found him outside and I wondered whether it might have been wiser to encourage him to respect his anger, as now he seemed to be taking a more lenient approach to his attacker than I approved of.
“The man just lost his son, Marcus.” Pike argued, seeming shocked that anyone could even consider punishing the instigator and I huffed in annoyance.
Pike had been blatantly coddling the Farm Station residents since they arrived, unable to accept even the mere suggestion that they could do any wrong and my patience with his golden child syndrome was growing thin.
“Lincoln didn’t do that.” Abby pointed out, staring at Pike over her shoulder whilst she worked and I was relieved that she remained stern in the face of his favouritism.
The doors to the ward swung open with a clatter as Octavia entered, her face filled with a mixture of terror and rage. Though I willed my legs to stand to join her, I couldn’t lift myself from the bed and simply had to watch as she strode toward Lincoln in a fluster.
“What happened?” She demanded, sneaking a glare at Pike as she passed that silently enquired as to why he was even present and I couldn’t help a sly smile at her attitude.
Octavia began fretting over Lincoln as they shared a hushed conversation and Pike moved to leave medical first. He had barely reached my bed when Nyko momentarily blocked his path, fixing him with a stern glare that conveyed his distrust and he maintained it even once he eventually allowed him to pass. Pike seemed shaken by this encounter as he hurried out and I caught Nyko’s eyes with a meaningful look.
“He is bad news. Watch him around your people.” I warned, already fearful for the safety of those in the ward and Nyko nodded in agreement, seeming grateful for my support.
My attention was caught by Abby loudly asking Lincoln to assist with translation for the grounder patients and Octavia wandered over to my bed with frustration poorly hidden in her face.
“How are you feeling, little miss kamikaze?” She interrogated, raising a bro at me critically and I shook my head at her as I prepared myself for another scolding. “Honestly, if you didn’t already look so sorry for yourself, I’d hit you. You really worried us this time. I thought Bellamy was going to have a heart attack. I’ve never seen him that frantic. He was losing his mind!”
“I know. I’m an idiot. Believe me, I’ve already got that message loud and clear from a host of people.” I answered with an apologetic smile and she seemed pleased to hear that I was being grilled for my behaviour. “Give me a little recovery time and I’ll be fine.” I added gently to answer her question and she seemed relieved, though the tension in her brows didn’t completely disappear.
“You look stressed, Sugar. Talk to me.” I offered, unsettled by seeing her upset.
Octavia chewed on her lip for a moment, seeming as if she was too proud nowadays to allow herself a moment of weakness as she had always done in my company in the past. I patted the bed as I shuffled over to make space, making it clear that I was absolutely willing to still dote on her when needed and she sighed, before she carefully sat beside me.
“Lincoln’s not going to press charges on that Farm Station asshole.” She grumbled with anger filling her pretty features and I sighed in disappointment.
If I was honest, I had expected this outcome, but I had hoped that Octavia might be able to convince him to reconsider. I had no doubt that she had already tried, but as she clearly had been unsuccessful, I decided that I would need to provide her with calming answers, rather than riling her up further.
“There has to be a consequence for assaulting him like that. I mean, he’s got stitches in his head, Indie!” She exclaimed and I struggled to keep my mouth closed as I nodded. “Pike’s people already think that they’re untouchable as it is. This won’t help anything.” She added bitterly and I took one of her hands in mine in an attempt to calm her from her outrage.
“That’s Lincoln’s way. You know that better than anyone, Tavi. He wants to set a good example of grounders. That they can be compassionate and compromise.” I advised, caressing her hand comfortingly and she huffed as she absorbed my words. “Plus, it sounded like Pike was pushing pretty hard for no charges. He’s certainly not making things any easier by insisting that our rules don’t apply to them.”
“Tell me about it. You know, the guards were trying to throw Nyko and the others out when they arrived. They didn’t even give him a chance to explain that their treatment had already been agreed with Abby.” She recounted with aggravation and I furrowed my brows at this revelation. “I had to help carry them in by myself. No one else would help them.” She revealed, her voice gradually softening from anger to fear and I glanced around at the sickly people surrounding us with shock.
“A lot of the people here have been anti-grounder for a while. The Farm Station residents moving in and then the Mount Weather attack has only boosted their confidence. We’re going to have to be careful in how we deal with this. People are angry and scared, and we both know how easily that can go to shit if it becomes a mob mentality.” I analysed, feeling uneasy about the divide that I could sense in the camp and Octavia glanced at me with a similar discomfort in her eyes.
“I asked Linkon if we could leave to join Trikru. The Commander lifted the kill order on him, so we’re free to go. Indra seemed interested in having me back at the Summit. I thought that maybe I could convince her to take him too.” She whimpered, switching to Trig to be extra cautious that none of our own people could overhear her plans and though I was upset by this suggestion, I understood her desire to escape. “He said no. He wants to stay, but I don’t feel safe here.”
“Linkon feels like he has a responsibility to represent his people here. He’s too noble to walk away from that. He still has hope that an alliance could work.” I reminded her, despite feeling doubtful about the reliability of this concept myself and she scoffed under her breath, though her expression revealed that she knew I was right.
“You’re always safe with me. No matter what state I’m in. I’m never gonna let anything happen to you and neither will your man. You know that, right?” I confirmed, squeezing her hand tightly and she snuck a rare smile at me.
“I know. The same goes for you. We’ve got each other's backs.” She confirmed and I was pleased to have at least taken the edge off her anxiety. “Love you.” She whispered, sniffing emotionally before she leaned her head onto my shoulder in a way that she hadn’t done in a long time.
“Love you too, Tavi.” I breathed, placing a light kiss on the top of her head and leaning into her too.
We stayed like this for a few minutes and I treasured the feeling of closeness between us. Since we landed on Earth things had never been the same, but I was grateful that I could always fall back on Octavia. Her love and commitment had kept me strong in the worst times of my life and I knew that no matter what happened in the future, or how far apart we ended up, I would always be able to depend on it.
“Sorry to interrupt this super adorable moment, but I’ve gotta move you.” Jackson announced with an apologetic smile as he crept into the area around my bed and I glanced up at him in confusion.
“The grounders that we are treating are suffering with an illness that is causing breathing difficulties. It’s not especially serious, but if you were to catch it, it would majorly affect your recovery. We’re gonna move you to a private room for tonight and then we’ll see if you’re looking well enough to rest up in your own quarters after that.” He explained as he busied himself with gathering my stuff so that I wouldn’t attempt to carry it myself and I looked over at Octavia reluctantly.
“It’s okay. You need to focus on taking care of yourself. We’ll chat later.” She soothed, giving my arm a supportive squeeze, before she left me to Jackson’s care.
Using his arm for balance, I allowed him to lead me to a small room beside the main ward that was available for any intensive care cases. He assisted in setting up the room and checked that I was settled comfortably in bed. Once he’d wheeled in all of the necessary equipment, he connected me to an IV for another dose of pain relief and ensured that I ate a full meal, before he returned to assist Abby in the main ward.
For a while, I managed to concentrate on reading The Iliad again, before I became restless and my mind began to obsess over Bellamy, worrying over what could take this amount of time. I recalled Raven’s earlier words with a flinch, fearful that they were hurtful enough to cause him to do all manner of stupid things and I was already considering whether I had the energy to sneak out to find him, when he finally appeared.
“Hey! Are you alright?” He enquired immediately, seeming flustered and lost as he made his way into the room and I nodded with confusion, unsure what had caused such a distressing attitude. “I panicked when I couldn’t find you. What’s going on?” He breathed, sounding out of breath and I smiled at his protectiveness.
“Oh, sorry. Jackson and Abby don’t want me to pick up anything from the grounders that they’re treating whilst I’m still in recovery.” I explained, casually placing the book on a nearby surface and he glanced back toward the ward in annoyance.
“If they’re so sick, maybe they shouldn’t be here!” He stated frustratedly, his entire demeanour radiating aggravation and I knitted my brows together at the absurdity of this statement. “We shouldn’t be taking grounders into Arkadia if it’s going to endanger our own people.” He argued as he glared toward the ward again and I could hardly believe what I was hearing.
“Well, that’s why I’m in here now. The illness isn’t especially dangerous, according to Jackson. They just didn’t want to slow my recovery.” I clarified gently, but he remained distracted by this change and I could tell that something else was bothering him.
“Come on. Sit down.” I requested, tapping a chair that was beside the bed and he paused to ensure that the door to the room was fully closed protectively.
Once satisfied that no germs were going to reach me, he reluctantly shuffled over to my side and dropped into the chair. Even his posture seemed irritable and I knew that he wasn’t coping, despite his best efforts to keep this information to himself. It was agonising for me to witness him suffering and wished that I could simply take his pain away.
“Bellamy, talk to me. Please.” I offered, reaching over to take one of his hands in mine and he simply fidgeted in his seat as he viewed me. He didn’t grip my hands in return, seeming completely removed from me and I felt anxiety building in my chest at his strange behaviour.
“Baby. What Raven said earlier was awful-”
“I don’t want to talk about it.” He cut in abruptly, clearing his throat to ensure that his voice didn’t divulge any emotion and I chewed on my lip.
“Well, clearly not talking about it is doing wonders for you.” I blurted, thinning my eyes at him and he avoidantly turned his face away.
Everything about his posture was closed off, as if he was making every effort to keep me from breaching his defences and I couldn’t imagine why he felt that he needed to manage this alone. Ever since I first woke up in Arkadia, I knew that there were things that he wouldn’t tell me and in the months that followed the feeling only grew, seeming like a disease that slowly poisoned him. Now I knew that he was lying and the pain that he battled to disguise was written all over his face, in capital letters.
“She needs someone to blame for what happened and it’s not fair that she picked you.” I stated, keeping my voice gentle as I addressed him and he sniffed loudly. “This isn’t your fault.”
“Isn’t it?” He asked sharply, startling me with the sharpness of his tone and I noticed when he finally brought his gaze back to me that there were tears glistening in his eyes. “I chose to trust Echo. I vouched for her, even when you told me to be careful. They were all my decisions. Going to Polis to warn them was my plan.” He pointed out, his voice shaking as he spoke and hurt came off him in waves.
“I almost got you killed, Indie!” He hissed, the pain in his face causing my heart to break and I could hardly cope with how broken he looked. “Jackson said that when he found you, you were drowning in your own blood. You barely made it through surgery. I had to sit here and watch you fight for your life, knowing that it was my fault if you died.”
“You didn’t do this to me, Bellamy. This one is on me. I hid the broken ribs and I stayed in the mountain for too long. I did this to myself.” I insisted, unwilling to allow him to blame himself for my injuries and I could recognise that this aspect had caused the most damage to him emotionally.
“Please. Tell me how this blood isn’t on my hands, because I can’t see it.” He whispered, hardly able to get the words out as he stared at me in desperation and I longed to wrap him in my arms, holding him until he came back to his senses.
“Earlier today, you reminded me that we are still just kids, doing the best that we can. You could never have known what was going to happen. The only people with blood on their hands are the ones who plotted to kill us. You don’t get to punish yourself for being human.” I asserted with as much strength as I could and he finally allowed a tear to roll down his cheek. “You did what you believed was right. You can’t be blamed for what happened after.” I confirmed, reaching out to brush the tear away, but he leaned away from me.
“I’m pretty sure that Raven would disagree.” He divulged in a hoarse voice, roughly wiping his tears aside as if he were frustrated at himself for showing weakness and for a moment, I felt lost for words.
The distance between us felt like miles and I couldn’t think on how to reach past the blame that he was determined to carry. For the first time since we’d been together, he felt like a stranger to me and it strung to realise that I hadn’t known him for long enough to know how to handle this. The only remaining truth that I could offer was my own insight and I took a deep breath as I returned my mind to the weeks that I spent captive in Mount Weather.
“When I thought that I lost you, I was like a totally different person. That kind of grief, combined with all of the what ifs and missed chances, it brings out the worst in you. She’s dealing with so many constantly changing emotions and she just needs someone to direct them at.” I expressed, using my experiences to try to remove some of the impact of Raven’s attack and he listened obediently whilst still keeping his gaze trained away from me.
“You’re an easy target for her and she needs that right now. For me, it was Miller.” I admitted, causing him to finally glance up at me in confusion. “In my mind, I lost you because he took me when you were fighting Tristan. I couldn’t bring myself to acknowledge that he was just protecting me as you’d asked. I believed that I could’ve saved you and he stopped me from doing that. I was so angry with him.” I divulged, feeling the familiar pain of shame in my chest as I recalled the way that I had spoken to Miller back then and Bellamy seemed equally shocked by my confession.
“But you got me back. Raven won’t get a redo like we did.” He sighed, seeming even more remorseful as he considered this and I felt at a loss for anything else I could say to help him.
“I did. And I will always be grateful for that.” I confirmed, squeezing his hand with appreciation, but he barely even reacted to me. “I forgave Miller long before I knew that you had survived. It took a lot of soul searching and I think it probably made a big difference that we had to work together to survive, but I accepted that it wasn’t fair to blame him. I’d even consider us friends now. Raven will forgive you in time. For now though, you need to forgive yourself.” I urged, staring into his face with concern, but he remained distant as if I hadn’t even spoken at all.
“We will need to work together to survive again soon if Kane doesn’t act.” He muttered, running a hand through his hair in a gesture of stress and I tilted my head at him in question.
“We’ve got an army of grounders surrounding us at this very moment. If the Commander decides to change her loyalties again like she did at Mount Weather, we won't stand a chance.” He presented as if this threat were obvious and I leaned away from him slightly in shock.
This was the last thing that I had expected him to say and it took several minutes for me to form a response as I struggled to understand who he was referring to.
“Indra’s army.” I pointed out firmly, but he stared back at me with an unchanged expression. “They’re here to help us fight Azgeda. This isn’t like before. We’re the thirteenth clan now.” I argued, confused that we were even discussing this and he scoffed at me in an antagonising manner. “We can trust Trikru. Indra has proven herself too many times for you to disrespect her like this.”
“Indra is a grounder! Trusting a grounder just got thirty six of our people killed.” He hissed, seeming as if he were losing his patience with me and I felt my eyes widen at his attitude. “You are too attached to them to see this for the danger that it is. It’s time that you remembered who your people are and started thinking of their safety.” He lectured, already warming into a familiarly protective attitude and I felt my temper rising at the sight of it.
“I am thinking of my people, despite the fact that you are currently behaving like children.” I spat, my sympathy rapidly being pushed aside for anger as he seemed to have suddenly forgotten the months of work that had gone into campaigning for peace, in favour of viewing every grounder in the same light.
Bellamy clenched his jaw at my words, avoiding meeting my eyes as he fidgeted in place and I crossed my arms defensively. A few moments of silence passed as we both attempted to calm ourselves and I couldn’t allow things to fester any longer between us, as I decided that it was time to address his behaviour.
“If you’re so concerned about our safety, why did you quit the guard?” I asked in a cold tone, allowing my expression to reveal my annoyance for his dishonesty and he whipped his gaze back up to me in panic. “Kane told me. He hoped that I might be able to convince you to reconsider, but if I’m honest, I wouldn’t feel comfortable with you working as a guard right now. I know that you feel like you need to keep us safe, but you’re being paranoid-”
“You don’t know what you’re talking about!” He yelled as he rose to his feet in anger and I flinched at his unexpected outburst, staring up at him with wide eyes.
“You’re so blinded by your loyalty to Arlo that you can’t see what's right in front of you. My decision to trust a grounder opened us up for betrayal, again. We have to be wiser. Wake up, Indie! Kane’s got you dancing to his tune!”
“And it sounds like Pike’s finally got you dancing to his!” I snapped viciously, causing him to curse under his breath and storm out of the room without another word, leaving the door hanging open behind him.
“Bellamy!” I yelled after him, hardly able to believe that he’d walked out on me when he knew I couldn’t leave and I threw off my covers to prepare to follow him, when Jackson rushed in.
“Woah, woah!” He gasped, glancing back out of the door with disbelief. “Indie, don’t even think about getting out of that bed! You’re not well enough.” He ordered, barging his way over to push me back and due to my weak state, I couldn’t fight as he lifted me slightly to prop me back on the mattress.
“Jackson. I need to-”
“I understand that you want to go after your man, but just give him some time to cool off. He’ll come back when he’s ready.” Jackson argued, blocking the door from my reach and I reluctantly flopped into lying down with exhaustion.
“You might as well get comfortable, honey. You’re not going anywhere. I need to get these dressings changed, anyway.” He added as he approached to ensure that I was secure in the bed, before he busied himself with treating my burns and I had no energy left to argue as I began to stew in my thoughts.
❖ ── ✦ ──『✙』── ✦ ── ❖
The effect of the pain relief was so strong that I didn’t even realise that I had fallen asleep until someone was shaking me. It was a battle to pull myself from the allure of sleep, as the exhaustion I felt was so intense that it felt unbeatable. Between blinks, I caught sight of Octavia standing above me with a panicked expression and the fear in her face spurred me into action.
“Indie, wake up! We’ve got trouble.” She hissed urgently and I sat bolt upright so quickly that it made me flinch in pain.
“What’s wrong?” I gasped, almost falling out of bed from dizziness and Octavia grabbed my shoulders to stabilise me.
She seemed to regret her decision to wake me, as I stared at her though unfocused eyes and I knew that she worried over my condition. After a few moments of staring at her insistently, she eventually cracked.
“It’s Bellamy.” She sighed awkwardly, causing alarm to course through my body and miraculously, I was no longer tired.
Octavia had to practically restrain me to prevent me from launching out of the bed and she hurried to explain so that I would cease fighting.
“He’s not hurt!” She gasped in exasperation and I paused in place, viewing her with a feeling of intense dread. “He helped Pike’s crew to sneak guns out of the armoury. Lincoln and a couple of guards caught them trying to sneak out of camp. They were going to kill the army whilst they slept.” She explained as her face displayed her hurt at this discovery and I stuttered in shock, struggling to find any words to respond with.
“What?!” I spat, rubbing at my temples whilst my brain strained to comprehend this situation. Octavia watched me sympathetically as I wondered if I had somehow caused this, replaying our earlier conversation in my mind obsessively.
“That’s not even the worst of it.” She confessed in a careful voice and I could barely bring myself to meet her eyes as I steeled myself for more. “Kane and Abby came out to arrest them all and obviously it caused a scene. So, Pike started using it to preach his bullshit as usual and Bellamy publicly suggested that he run for Chancellor. Indie, he started the whole camp cheering for him.”
“They’re not going to allow him to run, are they?” I breathed in horror as I understood that she had been correct to feel afraid in this camp and my anxiety was running in circles as I realised that she could be in danger.
“I don’t think they have much of a choice. He has more support than we realised. There would be riots if they refused.” She mumbled, the colour draining from her face as she considered this and I rubbed at my face with a groan.
“This is insane!” I stated in disbelief, feeling as if I simply wanted to hide beneath my covers, but I knew that she was counting on me, amongst many others.
Pain pulsed in my head as I tried to push through my shock to form a plan, but I was overwhelmed with guilt and betrayal that clouded my judgement. It seemed utterly childish now that I had been so upset over Bellamy lying about his guard jacket when compared to something as extreme as this and I struggled to match this decision to the kind, understanding man that I knew. Octavia watched me with a similarly lost look in her eyes and I was glad to have her at my side to sympathise with the conflicting emotions that I battled.
“Alright. Did Bellamy get arrested too?” I enquired in a forced attempt at a calm tone and she nodded without hesitation. “Good. It's a long shot, but if I can get in to visit him, then I might just be able to talk some sense into him before it’s too late.”

Departures
Thancred/f!WoL with Alisaie&WoL. Takes place before the patch 5.3 segment of Bozja. SFW :) I feel a bit rusty and have struggled with writing something I feel happy with, but wanted to try and finish something at least so I can move on to other stuff.
----
“I still wish I could go with you.”
Alisaie’s exasperated tone made Viana look up from her travel pack to offer the young woman a small smile. “And I’d love to have you,” she replied earnestly. “Both of you.”
She looked over her shoulder to Thancred where he was seated by her desk. Clearly sensing her eyes on him, he looked up from her gunblade. The furrow between his brows deepened, but he turned his attention back to carefully cleaning out the disassembled chamber.
Not that he needed to say anything; it was obvious he shared Alisaie’s sentiment, though he knew there was no point in him trying to argue for it. Without a word, he’d taken her gunblade from her and sat down to clean it while she packed the rest of her things ahead of leaving early the next morning.
Sighing, Viana walked over to her cabinet. “But as much as I may want to have you by my side out there, I wager Krile would sooner physically restrain the lot of you than let you travel to a warzone.” She frowned at the small rack holding the pre-prepared potions, and picked up two healing ones, leaving one vial behind. Making a mental note to ask Tataru for a restock, she turned back towards Alisaie, just as she with a huff settled down on the bed, next to the open bag.
“But I feel fine.”
Viana snorted and raised an eyebrow. “You say that now,” she retorted as she put the vials into their designated leather travel case. The antidote vial in the case was still nearly full so no need to get more of that at least. “But you don’t know how you’ll feel after a few nights of poor sleep, and several hours of fighting. A few starved and desperate gryphons are a far cry from an imperial legion and magitek units.”
“She’s right,” Thancred chimed in, his tone the same firm, matter-of-fact one he would usually take when he and Ryne were disagreeing on something. He didn’t look up from the cylinder he was reassembling as he continued, “We’re all still recovering physically. If we were out there, we’d be a source of distraction, and not nearly to as much help as we might want to believe.”
Alisaie threw him a sour look, like she felt betrayed by him not siding with her on the matter. For a moment, it looked like she might argue with him, but instead, she turned her head to glare down at the floor. “I know. I just…” She bit her lip, her shoulders tense as she dug her fingers into the bed cover. “I don’t like sitting here, useless,” she continued, her voice tense. “Especially when you’re walking into yet another warzone, and this time, you won’t have Lyse, or Yugiri and Hien, or anyone else you know and trust there to back you up. The last time I should have been...” She fell silent, but the unsaid words hung heavy in the air.
Viana paused, her chest knotting with sympathy and a faint unease - the memory of Ghimlyt still haunted them both it seemed. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Thancred’s hands briefly still, before he continued tinkering with her gunblade.
“You’re not useless,” she responded firmly as she walked back to the bed.
It did nothing to make Alisaie relax or cease with her attempt to glare a hole into the floor. Attempts at coddling were never appreciated by her, that much Viana knew. Hells, at that age, she’d never liked it when people older than her had tried to talk down to her either. But youthful eagerness to leap into the next fray, heedless of one’s limits, was always something to look out for, and gently but firmly redirect elsewhere.
Reaching out, she put a hand on Alisaie’s shoulder and squeezed. “The best you can do right now,” she continued, “is what will make your recovery the swiftest it can be. Running headlong into an dangerous situation may at best result in you pushing yourself beyond what you’re capable of at this moment, or at worst, you might injure yourself and just set yourself back even more.”
Finally, Alisaie looked up, their eyes meeting. For a moment, her brow remained creased and mouth pressed together in a thin line, until finally the steel in her gaze softened a little. “Well, I suppose moping about it won’t do you or me any good.”
Relieved to see her mood shift towards something better, a crooked smile quirked the corner of Viana’s mouth. “No it won’t.” When she felt Alisaie’s shoulder relax, she gave it another squeeze before letting her hand drift off it. “Besides,” she continued while lowering her voice, not really trying to keep herself from being overheard in the stillness of the room, “someone’s got to make sure Thancred doesn’t slack off while I’m gone.”
“I heard that.”
Thancred’s deadpan voice made them both burst into quiet laughter. And with that, the air felt a little less thick with tension.
As her laughter subsided, Alisaie’s posture relaxed completely. “Fine, I get what you mean.”
“I’m glad,” Viana replied and turned back to the parts of her gear lying on the bed. Picking up the bag she usually attached to her belt, she put the case with the potion vials inside it as she continued speaking, “Hien and the rest of Doma might not be able to aid the resistance directly, but Yugiri volunteered to personally run any messages I might have for you all. Alphinaud knows how to get in touch with her as well, should the need arise.”
“It’d be good to see her again,” Alisaie responded, her voice soft and a bit more cheerful.
Viana made a quiet, humming noise of agreement while continuing to pack some spare clothes into her bag. “Wager she feels much the same.”
A comfortable silence settled over them for a short moment, until Alisaie spoke up once more, “You’re leaving early, right?”
“I am, yes.”
A smile broke out on her features as she stood up from the bed. “I’ll leave you to finish packing then. Come say good-bye before you go?”
With a soft laugh, Viana nodded. “I promise. Sleep well.”
“Good night, Alisaie,” Thancred said lightly, his attention still on the gunblade.
Alisaie paused with one hand on the door handle and glanced back at Thancred. “Don’t keep her up for too long while ‘saying good-bye’.”
There was a sharp pling of metal hitting metal accompanied by a startled noise, barely audible under Viana’s scandalised shout of the young elezen woman’s name. Before either of them had time to formulate a reply, Alisaie had already slipped out the door with a cheerful “Good night!” thrown over her shoulder.
Viana crossed her arms and stared at the closed door, her cheeks burning furiously. Of course she held no illusions whether Alisaie, or any of the others, remained oblivious to what was going on between her and Thancred - the sly quips and jabs from all of them made that quite clear - but the blatant insinuation had caught her entirely off-guard.
A heavy sigh from behind her made her turn to look towards Thancred just as he leaned down to pick up the small metal ring he’d apparently dropped. “Perhaps I should count myself lucky that she mostly holds her tongue in public,” he grumbled. “Not sure the shreds of my dignity would survive.”
It was hard not to quirk a smile at his grumpy tone. “She just enjoys teasing you.” A glimmer on the floor in the lantern light caught her attention and she moved to pick up a screw that had rolled out onto the floor. “Well, both of us, I suppose,” she added softly as she walked over to him.
Thancred murmured a ‘thank you’ when she placed the screw in his hand, but before she had a chance to return to pack the last of her things, he swiftly wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her down into his lap.
Viana huffed out a quiet laugh through her nose, but he silently returned to reassembling the cleaned components, arms on each side of her.
“Not exactly the most productive working position,” she commented softly as she rested her arm over his shoulders and idly drew random patterns onto his back with her fingers.
“Works well enough, my dear,” he replied in that effortless, well-practised tone she knew was meant to mask whatever feelings he truly had.
She pursed her lips as she watched him work. For a moment, she considered calling him out on his bluff. It wasn’t as if they could avoid speaking of it. Which, if she guessed right, was precisely why he’d caught her like this in the first place. Sighing quietly, she dropped a kiss to the top of his head while still stroking his back.
Thancred’s hands stilled for a second, before he turned his head and pressed his cheek against her chest, the arm around her back tensing. “A moment.”
She replied with a quiet hum and brushed her fingers over the nape of his neck, her eyes still on his hands. Usually she quite enjoyed watching him work like this; to just quietly observe his nimble fingers twist and turn the small components of a gunblade, fiddle with a lockpick, or merely playing with whatever piece of string or fabric that might be within reach while he was completely absorbed in a book.
Stuck as he’d been reading his old journals and Riol’s reports to refresh and catch up on events in his absence, learning the ins and outs of her new gunblade had given him something else to occupy his hands with.  By now, she was fairly certain he knew it just as well as his own. Which was why, despite that it didn’t take too long for him to finish up, she had the suspicion that he stalled a little just to gather his thoughts.
Finally, he held up the blade and gave it a critical once over, before setting it back down. With quick, efficient motions, he began wiping down the cleaning rods with a stained rag. “You need to refill your bottle with oil,” he commented while setting the rods back into her leather kit.
Viana glanced at the nearly empty bottle sitting on the desk. “There’s a flask of it in the cupboard,” she replied softly.
He nodded. “I’ll get it then.”
“Gonna have to let me up if you’re gonna do that, love.”
Thancred leaned back in the chair while his hands settled on her waist. He looked tired, his jaw tense and a hard edge to his eyes when he met her gaze.
It was a look that made her chest draw tight with concern. It felt like there was something other than just her impending departure that was on his mind. The silence stretched out between them, thick and heavy. Unsure of what to say to coax him into speaking of whatever was bothering him so, Viana raised a hand to caress his cheek before leaning down to press her lips to his in a chaste, hopefully soothing, kiss.
It was short and sweet, and a gentle reassurance that she’d be fine was right at the tip of her tongue, but they never made it past her lips.
With a sharp inhale, Thancred chased after her when she tried to part from him, his fingers digging into her hip while his other hand was quick to cradle her jaw. He swallowed her surprised gasp when he tugged her down to deepen the kiss, the scent of the cleaning oil that clung to his fingers sharp in her nose. A blazing warmth rushed up the back of her neck, while her heart quickened its pace and her thoughts scattered under the all too familiar yearning that he so skillfully stoked within her. The warm touch of his hand swept up beneath her shirt, leaving a trail of sparks behind as he let it idly roam over whatever he could reach of her, while still keeping her securely in his embrace. It was tempting to just surrender to it, to bury her hands in his hair and let the unspoken words die in favour of that carnal pleasure every caress of his lips promised.
Yet she would not let herself be swept up in it - not when she could all but taste the hard, cold undercurrent of something bitter in his fervent kisses.
Finding her voice, she pushed her hand against his chest. “Thancred.”
Immediately, he froze. “My apologies,” he rasped out, his breath a puff of hot air against her lips. The hold he’d had on her loosened, and she could sense that he would not stop her if she were to try and get up.
Rather than doing so, Viana relaxed and rested her forehead against his while she caressed his cheek. “What’s on your mind, love?”
Sighing, he nuzzled his nose against hers, before he finally responded, “Alisaie is right.”
“Whatever happened with ‘We’re still recovering’ and ‘we’ll be more of a distraction than help’?”
Thancred made an annoyed sound at the back of his throat. “Twelve, I know what I said.”
There was something he was not letting on. His tone was too guarded. Idly, she stroked her thumb over his cheekbone before leaning back a little. There was a stubborn set to his jaw and furrow between his brows. Unease bristled in her chest, a sharp and prickling concern for what was weighing so heavily on him. “You did not seem this worried when I ventured out to track down the weapon projects with Gaius,” she ventured carefully.
His expression darkened with a deep frown. “Because we all knew that Cid and the Ironworks would watch your back,” he responded firmly. “But out there, in Bozja, with the rebel forces? Who knows what’ll happen, who the Empire might have bought off with pretty promises or snuck in amongst the rank and file soldiers? We have no idea where Zenos is either. I should-” He abruptly fell silent and turned his head to the side, glaring off at her bookshelf like it was the sole source of his foul mood.
Viana raised an eyebrow and nervously wet her lips as she let her hand fall from his cheek to instead rest against his chest. “I don’t know where your head is at right now,” she began slowly, while trying to think of the right words to say. “But we’ve spoken of this. We both have our own duties to see to, and I know that you agree with me on the importance of that, so I can only guess that’s not why you’re bothered right now.”
She felt his fingers press into her hip, and tapped her fingers against his collarbone in turn. He glanced back at her, the grip on her hip tensing for a brief moment. The muscles at his jaw shifted as he clenched it, until he drew a deep breath and slowly exhaled. When he lowered his gaze, he relaxed his hold on her. “Forgive me… I… think I’m not used to you going off on your own, least of all into an active warzone,” he murmured. “Usually you have one of the twins with you at least, or that I’m close at hand myself, or… you’re with some other ally we know and trust.” He made a vague, hopeless gesture with his hand. “Bozja may as well be on the First, for all that I - or any of us - can help if something were to happen to you there.”
Despite his gruff tone, the little ball of anxiety in her chest loosened up. With a soft smile, Viana cradled his jaw and sought his gaze with her own. “Thancred, you’re allowed to be worried.”
He glanced up at her, his mouth still pressed together in a thin line and eyes stormy with emotions, but the hard lines in his expression had softened out a little. “I know you can take care of yourself,” he added firmly.
Humming softly, she brushed back a few strands of hair from his eyes. “Just like I knew you could take care of yourself while you were tracking Elidibus.” Quickly, she leaned down to brush her lips to his. “That doesn’t mean I did not fear that every hour I spent here at the Source was several hours I was not readily at hand in the First if you all needed me.”
With all that had been happening then, it had been hard to shake off the constant lingering fear that the moment she went to sleep, Feo Ul would be in her dreams to tell her that Elidibus had made his move in her absence, or that Thancred’s body had been found somewhere. Or worse, that they’d lost track of him entirely. Finding out later that he’d been hiding his dizzy spells from her hadn’t helped.
The memory of their hushed, hurried argument over that particular bit brought a bitter taste to her mouth. One bump on the road of them both learning and adjusting to being together with someone like this, but they had worked it out.
Thancred made a low, thoughtful noise that stirred her from her ruminations. Taking her hand in his, he pressed a light kiss to the back of her fingers. “Fair point, I suppose.”
Viana offered him a gentle smile. There was still some tension lingering in his expression, but she felt him relax against the back of the chair, his shoulders visibly slumping a little as he seemed to finally let go of whatever root cause for his mood had been. “You better now?” she asked.
He huffed out a tired chuckle. “I’d still be happier if we all were going with you.”
“Hmm, well, it’s like what I said to Alisaie,” she answered softly. “Best you all can do right now is to rest and recover. Fair chance there’s not much time before some matter or another requires you all out in the field once more.”
Thancred’s eyes softened and his smile turned a little rueful. “You too deserve some more time to rest.”
He raised a hand to cup her cheek and she leaned her head into his warm touch. She’d miss it in the coming weeks - miss all of them, now that she’d finally gotten them all back home once more. “I fear the world has other ideas,” she hummed. “It’s either now, or let the IVth legion solidify their hold on the region while the empire crumbles around them.” But he knew that - he, Riol and Alphinaud had all read the reports provided by the resistance just as diligently as she had.
Gently, Thancred pulled her back down for a slow, tender kiss that made her heart flutter in her chest and warmth rise on her cheeks. The kiss melted into another, his hand sliding up to cup the back of her head, until they somewhat reluctantly parted to catch their breaths. “I suppose barring the door is out of the question, hm? For just one more day at least?”
Chuckling at the rather well-worn joke - forever just a hushed whisper beneath warm covers they did not want to leave or a wistful remark in the lantern light on a eve such as this one - she pressed another quick kiss to his lips. “Afraid so, love.”
Thancred sighed softly, “Then I better get that flask refilled so you can pack everything away for tomorrow.”
“We have the rest of tonight.” She brushed one more kiss to his lips, craving those small intimate gestures with him that she’d have to go without with the coming of the morning light. “Let’s make the best use of it.”
“That sounds good, my dear.”

i hope this isn't a bother or a distraction to you right now, but could i get a little taste of an heir of life? i'm pretty sure i've seen you do other heirs and i really wanna see what amazing analysis you might have in store for the future when you do heirs!!
Of course you can have a small preview of, arguably, possibly one of my favorite Classpects! I can also promise you are most definitely not bothering nor distracting me from things, either!
For the sake of time and my wrists, I’ll drop in here what I’ve already said about the overall Heir Class!:
Heirs are those who subconsciously, almost instinctively, drift towards any and all instances of their Aspect. Whether it is always finding themself taking charge and being the leader, having a life of misery, suffering and pain with no real comfort to speak of, or fading into the shadows and remaining ignorant to the truths of a flawed system. The Heir is one who both gravitates towards their Aspect, but it is one that rarely often helps them - at least in the beginning.
It is because of this subconscious gravitation that the Heir is at risk of becoming fully submissive to the whims of their Aspect, losing every other sense of who they are in the process. While some Heirs may not see any problems with this, it is a thought that may startle and even turn Heirs into those who try to fight back against the strings their Aspect has tied to them. They are the only ones who can control their fates, whether it is by fighting back against and taking full control of their Aspect or allowing for it to fully overtake and override who they are, leaving them to be an unfortunate husk of who they once were.
Heirs are those who usually passively Manipulate their Aspect, or Manipulate through it. Their powers come to them naturally, after all, but their main problem is having to learn how to use their powers to benefit the team rather than only themselves. Overall, their personalities are often ones filled with passion and loyalty, especially when it comes to their opinions, values, and beliefs. Changing an Heir’s mind on something they enjoy can be difficult, sometimes even to the point where it feels like you are talking more to a wall than an actual person.
Now, as for the Heir of Life themself, they are simply someone who often tries to give too much of themself at once - they seek to heal and mend and fix what has been broken, wash away the scorched scars that cover those they love and the planet they love on, but they can’t. They are only human, and they can’t fix all that is wrong in the world. The Heir of Life does not care, though, as they will continue to try over, and over, and over again to fix as much as they can, to help as many people as they can at once, always taking on more weight of people’s issues all while trying to juggle their own. Although some of the Heir’s own friends may try and tell them to take a break, take care of themself, make boundaries, practice what they preach, and more, the Heir of Life may smile back at them oh-so-sweetly while promising that they will try, that they will do better about taking care of themself. Everyone knows, though, for they have all had this conversation one too many times, that the Heir of Life will always find a way to once again stretch themself too thin, set themself ablaze to keep others warm, sacrifice their own health so as to give more kindness and prosperity to the people in their lives who would not even think twice of returning the favor. The Heir of Life does not mind, though, because knowing they have made others happy is all they need. Right? Right?
The Heir of Life is someone who may naturally gravitate towards Life, the Aspect of growth, happiness, life itself, positivity, healing, and more. Because of this, they are someone who will often be the first responder to when someone asks for a shoulder to lean on, or a soul to listen to them vent. They are the person - the friend - who will drop everything they are doing and try to help someone find their way through the darkness of negativity they are experiencing. While they may have extensive knowledge of how to fix things, how to make things better, oftentimes the Heir of Life will find that their good-hearted actions will go to the people and places filled with selfishness. People who, admittedly, do not want to be fixed, or healed, or mended, but rather just want someone to coddle and enable their self-destructive behaviors while also leeching off of their loving ways. Yet they have so much love to give, so much empathy, sympathy, and compassion in their heart, that to even say no to giving love and healing to even the most rotten soul is something the Heir of Life can’t even bear to think about, even if it means continuing to hurt themself in the process.
However, while the Heir of Life may be able to ignore their own pain and suffering as they continue to coddle and enable the toxic, leeching behavior of others, as well as healing their own friends of their worries and problems. Except, there is one worry the Heir of Life will never be able to truly heal away from their true friends - and that is the worry that the Heir of Life may fully lose themself in the ways of healing, mending, and sewing things back together. Their friends - their true friends - are the ones who must sit and watch as the Heir continues to scratch themself out too thin until, finally, something snaps and the Heir of Life is sent spiraling into a mental state of pure and utter despair and anger. An Heir of Life at their worst can be a truly vicious and venomous person to be around, as they spare no expense as to who will be met with a snap and a bite from the Heir themself. Someone so sweet and unassuming becoming a force of overall destructive, for the self or otherwise, behavior, and who will take down anyone they deem to be worthy of experiencing the same despair as them is often a trademark trait of the Heir of Life.
It is a vicious and ever-spinning cycle for the Heir of Life; being an unrelenting healer, offering their help to all who will take it, falling prey to those who only seek to use and abuse the Heir, leaving their true friends to become bystander witnesses to the Heir’s suffering and grievances, and finally, the Heir having enough and reclaiming their right for self-care and self-love, all the while hurting many other people, good and bad, along the way. While it may be a cycle, much like of life and death, it is a cycle that can be broken. For as much as the Heir of Life loves to help as many as they can, once they come to realize how much their self-destructive ways harms not only themself, but also the friends who love and care for the Heir, they will discover that this isn’t who they truly want to be - they don’t want to give away all of their help to those who don’t deserve it, especially when they have people who are far more deserving of such tender-love-and-care. As such, the Heir of Life would have to find a way to break away from the strings of their Aspect, while also continuing to be the healer they so deeply desire to be.
For the powers, they are rather interesting when one takes a moment to contemplate them. After all, what does it mean to manipulate Life or even manipulate through it? Well, let’s try - keyword being try - to go over both options very, very briefly, so as to avoid any big spoilers before the time comes for the Heir of Life to fully shine! To start off, let’s go with the far more simple option of manipulating Life - though, as easy as it may sound, the fact that Life can stand for so many different things can put quite an interesting twist on this power. For now, let’s look towards the more literal version of Life, primarily with people’s life force as well as that of plant-life. An Heir of Life could come along and manipulate the life force of anyone they wanted to, whether it is by expanding a mortal’s lifespan by hundreds, thousands, perhaps even millions of years, or doing the exact opposite - manipulating someone’s life to become far more disheveled and closer to death. Of course, they could also manipulate someone’s Life in the form of aging certain parts of that person, while leaving everything else relatively untouched. If the Heir of Life so wanted, they could turn their enemy’s skeleton and/or insides into dust, leaving them hollow on the inside and, of course, dead. Then there is the manipulation of Life in the form of plants - which could become more akin to that of, perhaps, a type of Cleric or Warlock who has a domain or pact that allows for them to bring about a horrific army of plants. While they can’t exactly create these plants from thin air, so long as there is any sign of plant-life in the immediate area, the Heir of Life could so easily take it and turn it into something as simple as an ocean or mass of thorned tendrils, or give far more sentient life to the plants, making them an entire plant-based animal to do the Heir’s bidding more than anything.
As for the ability to manipulate through Life, this power is one that could take a far darker turn, especially if the Heir of Life using it has simply had enough of feeling like some old, beat-up, and thrown away doll. They would still be a healer, oh most certainly, but there would always be a small price for their helpful services. Heirs may be somewhat awkward individuals, but they still are people who attract others to them, one way or another. Because of this, if the Heir of Life truly wanted to play a little dirty, then they could use their Life powers as a means to twist the arms of those that have wronged them. After all, wouldn’t it be just a shame if people were to find out the star of a show was secretly some criminal, or that the person with a tragic home-life is just simply spoiled and not getting their way? Wouldn’t it just be a shame if all of these deep, deep dark secrets were to get out? The Heir of Life thinks so, and since people just love to come to them and talk about all of their problems, then the Heir believes their enemies would also agree how truly devastating it would be for the harsh truths to come out. If the Heir of Life wants to get something, then they know exactly how to get it.
Hopefully this helps to give you a little taste as to what the Heir of Life has to offer for when Month of the Heir comes rolling around!

Get Well Soup
Wild didn't get sick easily, but when he did it wasn't pretty; headaches, fever, sore throat, puffy eyes, dizziness, nausea, the works.
It started out as a a dull throbbing in his head. Nothing too serious. Little did he know it was the harbinger of much suffering.
It crept up on him like a Molduga; lying in wait until finally the illness reared its ugly head and struck him with such intense force that even the faintest whiff of food made him almost disgorge his stomach contents and before he knew it he was curled up in a loving mom-hug delivered by Sky who was whispering soothing words while he stroked Wild's sweat-dampened hair.
"You know, you don't need to baby me. I'm fine," Wild said as he tried to escape the embrace, though his congested, gravelly voice did nothing in the way of assisting his argument.
Sky shushed him, gently but forcefully pulling him back to his chest. "You don't need to act all tough just because you're a hero. Everyone gets sick every once in a while."
"But I'm fi-"
"Hush now!"
Wild let out a loud, annoyed sigh of defeat. He was too drained to fight back anyway. Despite his insistence that he was fine he was most certainly, in every way, shape and form, not fine. In fact he felt positivity awful; His throat burned like he had swallowed a litre of acid, he was so congested that he had nearly choked while taking a long drink of water, his body ached to the point where he could barely stretch a toe out without wincing and his head pained as if Twilight had repeatedly struck it with his ball and chain. To top it all of Wild couldn't even think about food without feeling sick to his stomache.
"You're insufferable. Why are you the one taking care of me anyway? I'd have thought Twilight would've jumped at the chance to play caretaker. Especially since he's the one always yelling at me for not taking care of myself"
"Oh he wanted to, but I volunteered first. Trust me, I did you a favour. Time sent him to go get firewood instead. Hyrule went too. They should be back soon incase you want to get rid of me," Sky chirped.
Wild inwardly groaned. He just wanted some space. It had only been three days since he'd gotten sick and he was already sick of it, quite literally. Twilight tried to be there for him, but by the grace of Hylia he was out running errands all day and so Sky played nurse for the time being. Though WIld just assumed Twilight didn't want to get sick himself.
"Fine then. I hope you're prepared for Twilight's specialty." He crained his neck to look at Sky's expression, apprehensive at the mention of the feared dish that was still shrouded in mystery.
Because of the condition Wild was in they elected to have someone else be the temporary cook. Twilight offered to cook when nobody volunteered and said he was going to make his 'specialty', whatever that was. Everyone hid their dread and fear, but Wild caught it. Dinner was fast approaching and everyone was famished, so consuming the mystery dish was unavoidable. It was declaired when he joined the group that Wild was the only one that knew how to cook, but despite that Wild was in no mood to suffer the wafting aromas of food right under his nose.
But because cooking had been one of the few activities he would partake in that consumed a lot of his time he found that he had a lot of time freed up from avoiding the task. But nobody would let him do anything! Hyrule practically tackled him when he tried to get up to stoke the fire and Twilight made his bed on Wild's chest to make sure it didn't happen again. Warrior avoided him like the plague. Something about not wanting to catch his germs. Understandable, but he didn't have to make his disgust so obvious. Wind kept giving him understanding glances; being the youngest of the Link's he was used to being coddled, so his sympathy was warented. Other than Sky, Legend was the most motherly out of all of them. He would do stuff like fluff his pillow or play soft harp music to make him fall asleep. It was wierd, but not totally out of character. He seemed to care a lot about people's wellbeing, he just doesn't broadcast his concern that often. Four also avoided him, though unlike Warrior he was more subtle about it. He would keep his things far away from Wild and sit at the opposite side of the fire, but wouldn't mind bringing him something when asked.
Time was something else entirely. He made his concern known, but he was quite strict when it came to eating and resting. He would give him the neutral face of disapproval whenever he volunteered to stay up for watch or crawled out of bed to stretch his legs. Unexpected but not a total shocker. He probably wouldn't have been able to do much stretching anyway given his aching limbs.
Twilight and Hyrule returned from collecting fire wood and Hyrule made his way over, Twilight suppressing his amusement over the scene before him before heading off to do who-knows-what erand.
"How are you feeling," Hyrule asked him as he watched Sky continue to stroke his hair.
"I would feel a whole lot better if I could just take a walk-"
"Out of the question," Sky chimed in, his words spoken firmly and with finality. Hyrule laughed at his friend's misfortune.
"But-" before he could complete his plea Wild released a sneezed so fierce that Sky and Hyrule flinchedaway. He sniffed and looked up sheepishly.
Wild really just wanted his mobility back. He felt suffocated being encumbered by the mass of blankets and being unable to wriggle out of Sky's tight hold.
"Sucks to be you," Hyrule said in between chuckles, "but seriously, Sky's right, you should get some rest. You never sleep anyway. Now you have the perfect opportunity to catch up." He clapped his back then walked off to set his bundle down. Sky made a pleased noise and Wild sighed again. He wasn't made to stay still for so long. He wanted to run around and climb some trees, but Sky wouldn't let him get out of bed, and Time's constant watchful eye kept him still. Not to mention his physical incapability of performing the actions he so longed to do. Wild's heart nearly jumped out through his mouth when he noticed Time staring at him across the campfire.
"I'm going to get Twilight. He should be back with ingredients already," Sky laid him back down and stared at him sternly. So that's what he left to do. "If you so much as lift a finger out of this bed I will have Twilight sit on you the entirety of the night. Do you understand?"
Wild nodded slowly out of both fear and surprise.
Hyrule came back over to keep him company. He probably guessed Wild wasn't going to sleep anytime soon.
"This sucks," Wild said.
"I know," Hyrule replied, "but it's humbling," he said with a smirk.
Wild rolled his eyes.
"I am not looking forward to tonight," Hyrule said miserably. He would eat almost anything, but for some reason he was very unsure about Twilight's cooking.
"What is everyone's problem anyway? Food's food."
"Yeah, but last time Twilight cooked for everyone, you know, before you joined, it wasn't particularly..." he trailed off, trying to think of the right word, then just settled on, "good."
Wild huffed out a weak laugh before releasing a mighty, painful sounding cough.
Hyrule winced in sympathy. "Anyway, I guess I'll just suck it up and swallow," he said as he made to get up, leaving Wild by himself. "Get some rest, will ya?"
Wild decided to heed his advice rather than succumb to boredom and silently dozed off.
0_0_0_0_0_0_0
When Wild woke up a light splattering of stars twinkled in a sky that was painted a menagerie of colours. The moment his teammates have been silently dreading; supper time. Twilight was working diligently next to the fire, leaning over a cooking pot, his face twisted in concentration that was both unnerving and reassuring. At least he put effort into it, but why did he have to concentrate so hard?
Wild snickered at his friends' uneasy anticipations. He didn't see what they were so worried about. Twilight didn't seem to have any suspicious ingredients with him. Wild saw fish, pumpkin, and cheese. Maybe he was making some kind of pumpkin stew or something?
"You're going to have to eat too you know," Time said, seeing Wild's smugness.
Wild made a disgusted face at his words. "I'd rather not." He really didn't want to eat. He didn't want a repeat of last time Time force fed him whatever preserved food Wild had stashed in his satchel. The result was pretty messy.
The neutral face of disapproval made its appearance once again and Wild found himself with a bowl of Twilight's speciality. A simple, underwhelming soup. He wasn't picky in the slightest, and though he was sure it tasted fine - it certainly didn't smell too bad- but Wild really didn't want to eat it. The steam billowing from the bowl churned his stomache. But Time stared at him so intensely that he forced himself to swallow a spoonful of the thick soup. He... found it surprisingly tasty.
Everyone else seemed to really enjoy it as well.
Soon enough Wild finished his bowl before everyone else.
"Twilight this is great! What is it," Wind asked, delighted with his meal.
"My speciality," Twilight replied with a smirk.
"Well yeah, but what's in it? It tastes great," Time acknowledged.
"Yeah. I even feel much better. Is this some miracle soup or something," Wild asked.
"Nope. Just a recipe I learned on my adventure. Though it does have some pretty spectacular properties," Twilight said with a wink.

It's Yeto's soup just in case you were wondering.

Loki x Reader - Scars
Part 2 to Warrior Girl
A/N - Because I want to focus on this little plot I’ve got in mind (also bc I just want my guys and gals to be happy) all the Avengers are together and they’re all staying at the Avengers tower (bc that’s one of my favorite marvel fanfiction tropes).
×
The scars weren’t attractive.
They stood out against your [S/T] skin, unsightly reminders of the time spent building walls around your mind and heart on Sakkar and before.
You spent every morning glaring at your reminders in the mirror in your room—something you adamantly requested the removal of. The remains of what you’d done to your neck were the most visible, deep and still healing—hopefully still healing—and you’d seen the others’ eyes drawn to the area more than once.
The others were far more accepting of you—who Thor hailed as much a hero as Valkarie—than of Loki, at least, they were to your face. You’d been told why they seemed to tread so carefully with Loki and it only served to make the looks they gave you all the more insulting.
You had nothing against Loki—after he had pulled you from your panic attack, you’d even grown to find his presence comforting, following him around like a puppy as subtly as you possibly could—but he had attacked them. You’d done nothing of the sort and still received looks of distrust and it ignited the spark of bitterness that burned so bright within you. So, you avoided them, keeping your lips sealed when hearing the plans of missions that you knew you could be an asset on and keeping yourself to your room in their waking moments. After all, how could you be an asset when they couldn’t say to your face what their problem was?
Besides, you’d earned rest many times over. Not being a performer for once in your many long years of life was a relief, even if it meant the distrust of the Avengers.
You took to wandering out after the tower went quiet, making yourself food and heading outside to gaze up at the stars—or down at the passing vehicles.
“Trouble sleeping?” You jumped, pivoting quickly away from your third cup of coffee and nearly dropped the creamer in your hands, “Sorry,” Loki’s tone was apologetic.
“It’s fine,” you shrug, turning back to your cooling coffee, “nope. You too?” You rubbed your neck, hiding your scars, as you turned to lean against the counter, “Coffee?”
“No, thank you,” he responded to your offer first and rolled his shoulders before answering your question, “not exactly.”
You cringed. You didn’t think the clatter of dishes disturbed any of them, but you’d been proven wrong. “Sorry, didn’t mean to wake you.”
Loki was far from blind, least of all when it came to you. He’d been keeping an eye on you, noticing the distance you placed between yourself and all other inhabitants of the tower, save himself and Thor. He’d seen you fight and knew you didn’t need him to coddle you, but he couldn’t help but worry. “Are you alright?”
Ice traveled down your spine as you felt pressure behind your eyes. No, you weren’t and you don’t know if you ever would be or if you ever were. What right did you have to complain though? Even if the Avengers looked at you like they knew what you had done—like they knew you were a killer, a monster—you were hailed a hero that was enough to make anyone alright at the least.
“No.”
Both of you were frozen, your eyes locked with his own and you could see the sympathy there and you didn’t want it. You didn’t deserve it. Not from him, not from anyone as beautiful as him, not when you were scarred and ugly outside and in.
“You should talk to them.”
Of course you should, you knew that. Give Tony more than a harsh request for removing that awful mirror, look them in the eyes, take Steve up on his offer for training, anything would be better than your attempts at avoiding them.
“That’s not it?”
He could read the expression on your face and you gave a single nod. It was only a small fraction of the storm inside of you. “I’m…” You didn’t know how to say it because, you knew, Loki had killed, but your own actions felt like something you could never wash away. Loki could have stabbed you and gave a halfhearted apology and you’d still forgive him without a second thought.
You’d forgive him for anything but you could never forgive yourself.
No.
You had sworn you hadn’t but your mind seemed intent on proving that you had feelings for the man in front of you. The kind of feelings that got people like you hurt. The kind of feelings that you wouldn’t be able to resist even if your heart wasn’t so eager to latch onto someone.
You couldn’t wash the blood away.
And you couldn’t wash away the affection clouting your judgement and slamming against your chest.
“I…” You clutched your chest, everything you felt and everything you were clashing within you in the makings of an unstoppable storm, “I need to go.”
And you did.

It had been days since Bandit had come to the camp at the edge of the Farm.
She didn't go to the Farm itself. There were too many people, too many eyes, hungry and tired like she was, and she didn't know what to do about that. She didn't know what to do about Iota either - or Jericho, or Mute. They gave her space, let her rest when she was tired, fed her when she was hungry. Iota and Jericho asked questions, sometimes - always in that gentle, quiet voice, like a wrong noise might shatter her. She didn’t like that.
Rough and chafing: the feeling of their voices in her aural array, the feeling of her bandages against her frayed sensors. It sunk into her, this discomfort, crawled deep inside and clawed at her tendons, pried at her plating. It made her nauseous - or at least, the memory of nauseous - a dizzy, hollowed-out feeling in her core. It raked and spat and hissed, making her squirm when the others got close, when they offered looks of their soft and sickening sympathy.
Her fist clenched, and she yanked off an entire branch from the bush she'd been inspecting. The small barbs dragged her back to herself, her body, away from the swirling cloud of violence and humiliation that threatened to sweep her away. She shook her hand from the sting, and deposited the berries into the small pouch she'd made out of her cloak.
She might have been vulnerable, small… scared. But she would not be useless.
"Maybe you should take a break," Pyxis said. He'd started somehow to know when the pain in her leg started to mount, when her mood started to spiral. He called it their bond. Bandit called it spying.
She shook her head, plucking a few more mushrooms from the beds of moss at her feet. Her hands were filled in with scrapes and dirt, something that would surely earn a look of alarm from Iota later. But now, she'd gathered a fair pile of food for him to use. So it didn't matter, she thought.
"You should probably stop sneaking off while you're supposed to be resting," Pyxis said. Bandit simply held up her bounty proudly.
A crashing noise, from deeper in the trees. Bandit stood fast, staggering on her ankle, whirling toward the sound with wide eyes. Was it Cabal?
It was coming closer. Bandit heard branches snapping under the onslaught, the rhythmic thundering of heavy boots. Her fingers scrabbled for the knife at her belt. Closer. It was coming closer. She gripped the knife hilt firmly. The war rhythm was unrelenting. She saw a dark shape moving through the cover of leaves. She drew her arm back. It was almost on top of her now.
In one explosive, fluid movement, she flung her knife forward. It felt so easy, so natural, like the knife was a part of her one moment, rocketing from her fingertips the next.
She heard a light thunk as it collided with heavy armor and dove out of the way just as Mute came rocketing through the underbrush.
Tumbling to the ground, she lay there for a moment, stunned. She watched as the large exo casually shrugged through the trees, giving the knife buried in his chest armor a mere cursory glance before yanking it out and tossing it aside.
Bandit cocked her head to one side, watching Mute’s retreating form for a moment before climbing to her feet and gathering her collection of food, clenching her bundled-up cloak in her fist. She bent down to pick up her knife and followed after him.
Back at the tent, Mute was signing in a frantic flurry to his two companions. He seemed to be practically bursting at the seams, little hums and grunts accompanying his too-big movements. It was like all that gentle brightness in him had taken on a new energy, and he was swept along, hands fluttering, legs fidgeting.
“Are you sure?” the pale one - Jericho - asked. Mute nodded emphatically in response, and the two others seemed to brighten as well.
“Alright then!” Iota said, his voice quivering. He clapped his hands, sweeping up his helmet in a single movement. “What are we waiting for? Let’s go kings!”
Bandit dropped her cloak at her feet, the feeling of the soft fabric running through her fingers and sliding to the floor rhyming with the feeling of that cold and fearful beast slithering into her chest. The rest of them turned at the sound.
"Oh, kid-" Iota started. His eyes flicked over her face, then the cluster of foraged things now scattered at her feet. "You…! Uh, I mean, whatcha got there?"
Bandit felt her fingers go stiff around the hilt of her knife, joints freezing and locking like they had in the mountains.
Iota looked to Mute appealingly. The larger exo gave her a sideways glance - just for a moment - and Bandit felt as though he looked like he was apologizing with only his eyes. She focused in on his hands as they moved - sharp, emphatic. "You know how I feel about this," he said.
Iota made a kind of huffing noise, flapping his hands quickly in frustration. "Really? Here?" he hissed.
Mute frowned. "She'll be safer here," he said.
"She'll be safer if we teach her how to-"
Bandit had had enough of this. The coddling, the concern. The comfort. She felt everything boil up, felt the beast in her coil and smoke and writhe, now surging through her arms trailing white-hot flames. It was an angry, living fire, and it demanded its voice from her. Exploding with the sudden force of it, she threw her knife to the ground, and for a moment, she could have sworn she saw it consumed by witch-green flames, hissing and crackling with life.
She stomped her foot as they all stared at her, then turned on her heel and stormed off.
"Hey, wait!" Iota called after her. She didn't stop, she didn't turn. She kept her gaze on the treeline, arms swinging, fists clenched. She tried to hide her limp, clenching her jaw against the jarring pain in her ankle.
"I got her!" came Jericho's voice, this time from… above. That made her whirl around, skittering to the side as she saw Jericho in the middle of a leaping bound into the air, landing softly at her feet.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to… okay, listen." They seemed unsure what to do with their body language, their hand almost reaching out to her shoulder before thinking better of it. "You can go if you want- when you want. You can run off back into the woods. I wouldn't blame you, honestly." They smiled at that, and the smile was kind, and Bandit stiffened. But they were still talking, and she felt like she needed to listen. "Or you could get on a ship. Come with us. Learn how to be a Guardian." They looked at her, their blue eyes expectant but calm - like a pool of still water, Bandit thought. "It's your choice, though," they said. "No one's going to make it for you."
She looked at them, eyes searching their face for some motive. Maybe she wanted to stay with these people. Maybe they were dangerous. Maybe they'd hurt her, or leave her, or…
She didn't want to think about the last option that sprung to her mind, the one tethered to images of the Tower as it fell.
Finally, she nodded, and Jericho's still face brightened. They turned and led her back to the other two.
"She's coming with," they announced. "End of."
Mute hesitated, then nodded. "Let's go," he signed.
The three turned all their attention to packing up their tent and belongings. This time, Bandit helped.
"Where do you think we're going?" Pyxis asked, his voice vibrating with nervous anticipation.
Bandit didn't look up from her work, but she felt the beast in her chest spark warmly. Somewhere new, she thought, and the thought didn't terrify her as much as it once had.

Ozpin how do you comfort students who attend Beacon because of desperate situations? Like if they're an orphan or if they're village was destroyed or a family member or friend died? What do you do to help them?
Tumblr media
“Personally, I do very little. Tragedy is no rare occurrence in our world and the students that enroll at my Academy do not do so out of a wish for sympathy or coddling. Rather than rudiment in their misery, they have decided to instead change the world that has caused them suffering, and for this we at Beacon supply them the tools.
We provide them with teammates for which to build a support system and healthy social ties, friendships that in all likelihood will last a lifetime. We offer instructors at the tops of each of their respective fields, passionate individuals that want nothing more than each and every student in their classes to succeed. We make certain that our curriculum involves skill-appropriate missions at least once every term so that they feel connected with the people they will be protecting, so that they never lose sight of why they are here.
I have no doubts that many of the students here have suffered great losses, but Beacon, and the Academies like it, are not the choices of victims seeking comfort from the world, but of survivors looking to change it. Each and every one of our students is incredibly strong, physically, mentally and willfully, and I have a great admiration and respect for each and every individual that comes through these doors for that reason. I ask that rather than pity them, you award them the same respect which they deserve.”

taehyung plays with yoongi’s hair and massages it in all the right places. never fails to make yoongi fall asleep
