Comment: Physicists are “attentive observers” of nature - just as most scientists (for instance as well legal scholars etc.) are primarily “attentive observers”. They sometimes develop a theory (based on their intuition and inspiration - which in turn is based on their profound knowledge acquired by learning and dealing with the subject intensively) that they may only be able to represent mathematically - but in „classical“ physics it is only the successful experiment that proves the validity of a theory. The theory then becomes an „universally accepted physical law”. Sometimes this is only possible years or decades after the theory was put forward.

Further: „Classical” physical laws only describe the „nature we know“ quite well. You need a different scientific approach and way of thinking in certain situations. For example, if you go into the spheres of quantum mechanics, things often do not exactly behave as described with “classical“ physical laws. The behavior of quite small things (like Electrons) is different than things on large scale. They can often only be described and predicted mathematically since it’s hard to prove the mathematical theory by experiments (at least with methods known today). There are people who can imagine this „small world“ because they have learned to think about it “mathematically”. For people who can't imagine that, it's „voodoo“ and needs to be proven to be credible. I refer to a very interesting YouTube video (Way Of Thinking) from physicist Richard Feynman that I have posted months ago - which could explain this matter much better than I can.

Feynman also explains in the video that he often does a lot of “translation work” when communicating on a high scientific level - because things that are completely clear to him, others cannot imagine or understand. Every person lives in fact in his or her „own world“ (reality) - because every person perceives its surrounding completely individually. Even when „normal people“ communicate with each other, they often do this “translation work” that Feynman talks about - especially when we talk with people who cannot follow us mentally. However, when we realize that we think similarly as other people, we feel connected to them. Two worlds connect - which is fantastic.

So what is „truth“ with respect to physics, or science in general? A current interpretation of an observation (theory) that needs to be supported by scientific facts (evidence) in order for it to become an „universally accepted scientific law“. Otherwise it remains just a “theory”. That is how science works. And that is how a society works which is based on reason, not on superstition - based on science, not on blind faith.

Robot characters who are given names like SL-308-62 but instead of their human friend going Well let's call you Sally for short, they instead ask the other if they Like their current name.

Because it's not your decision to make whether or not the robot will receive a new name. It should be theirs only. What's the difference? One is more complex and the other is simplified. They were both given by strangers instead of themselves.

What we need to do is convince all the disney adults in america that high speed rail would be a preferable way of getting to disneyworld compared to driving or flying. Live theater in the His Dark Materials universe must be wild. Surely an actor's daemon also has lines to recite, so their daemon's form probably also factors into casting decisions. Maybe some plays have vague character descriptions for daemons, but I bet other plays have really specific or central daemon characters. And sure, big-budget theaters can afford to hire a separate actor with a particular daemon to stand backstage while their daemon plays its part onstage, but community theaters don't have those kinds of resources.

Like if you're casting for Julius Caesar, surely the real historical Caesar had a pretty iconic daemon, right? Are you going to cast an actor with a pigeon daemon as Caesar and just have everyone suspend their disbelief that it's Caesar's lioness, ἁμαρτία?
