Everyday wear for the warrior class - Nagakamishimo and Hankamishimo
(as worn by samurai of the Edo period - great charts by Nadeshico Rin). You can find more about samurai ranks and their regulated attires under the tag "samurai kimono".
The Nagakamishimo (here with noshime)
Tumblr media
長上下 Nagakamishimo was worn by all upper ranked samurai.
肩衣 Kataginu - sleeveless overvest, with startched shoulders. It bore back and shoulder 紋 mon (family crests). It's said to be an evolution of 素襖 Suô attire with detached sleeves. Formal ones were also entirely covered with tiny dyed patterns, the 小紋 komon (clans tended to have their favourite ones, used by all their retainers).
長袴 Nagabakama - hakama pants with long trailing legs. Formal look required it to match the kataginu.
熨斗目 Noshime - kosode (=ancestor of the kimono) with stripes or lattice pattern at waist area. Note the mon family crest on the sleeves and back. Noshime was also worn under more formal sets, like the daimon, suô, hoi, etc.
小さ刀 Chîsagatana - small katana
The Hankamishimo
Tumblr media
Also called 継上下 tsugi-gamishimo, 半上下 hankamishimo is the official everyday wear for all Edo period samurai.
Main difference with nagakamishimo are the shorter pants, far more suited to everyday life. Colors and fabrics were not especially regulated.
半袴 Hanbakama - ankle lenght pants, shorter than the more formal nagabakama. Today, it's simply called hakama.
脇差 Wakizashi - short sword worn by samurai, depending on the era is part of the 大小 daishô (sword set with a katana and wakizashi)
紋付小袖 Montsuki-kosode - kosode (=ancestor of the kimono) adorned with family crest

I truly believe this topic needs to be talked about (the well-being and respect of wheelchair users and other disabled people)
I have had enough how some treat me and other disabled people who use some form of aid may it be a wheelchair, a walker or a service animal etc etc.
We are people too and we also want to be treated with respect and care. I truly wish I could do something more for those who feel they are treated like trash 🗑 cus that's how I often feel at cons.
I added the text of my post of the usagi yojimbo Facebook group in the photos since that text won't fot in here.
I truly hope that one day things in prove, I would also love to talk to you and have fun conversations with you. Same goes for photos I would love to. But what I see all the time is photographer looks at me and quickly walks off. Or that people only talk to my friends but never a word to me even when it is about me..
Incase you are just worried that I don't want contact etc, don't worry I would always love to same goes for questions 💖 😊
Remember you are loved, you are a beautiful person 💜

Citadel – Bamboo Wakizashi
Limited Edition - Only 20 produced!
Citadel’s swords and knives are completely hand-made one off customs made entirely in their small shop in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We’ve asked them to make for us a few in the same style, but made in the same way as their custom swords. Crafted individually from start to finish, each one is of course a bit unique in it’s own way. Limited to just 20 swords, each is signed by the smith on the nakago with the sword number and comes with a matching certificate.
The “Wakizashi” or Short Sword was worn with the longer katana, when the pair matched in theme they were considered a Daisho. However, when the katana was surrendered upon entering a home the wakizashi was not, making it truly the side-arm of the Samurai!
The tsuba is hand cut and engraved from pure iron. The “nanako” or stippled pattern on the tsuba is accomplished by hand, quite a feat of patience with a stunning result. The tsuba also features “seki-gane”, metal inserts at the top and bottom of the hole for the blade to slip through. These are of a softer metal (copper) than the iron of the tsuba and allow easier shaping of the hole to perfectly fit the tsuba to the blade. Over time if this fit becomes loose or the tsuba is fitted to another blade the seki-gane may be adjusted easily to tighten it back up. This is a small detail usually only found on hand-made Japanese tsuba and is indicative of the level of care and craftsmanship given to these swords by Citadel.
The “tsuka” or handle and “saya” or scabbard are hand carved to fit each individual blade ensuring a proper fit. The handle is wrapped in genuine imported silk from Japan and tightly wrapped around the full same-gawa or ray skin wrap around the wooden core. The saya is lacquered in black to a nice semi-gloss finish with a ray skin wrap near the mouth of the saya to strengthen this area.
These are extremely limited in numbers to be produced (20 only!). Each blade is signed on the tang with the model and number and includes a stamped certificate of authenticity.

Here's probably the painting I've worked the most on. This is my Kensai (Sword Saint) for some Tabletop Roleplaying Games : Mizu no Yume Mayumi - Mayumi of the Water Dream.

Here are a few of the photo's of my orange/red version of my Tomoe Ame cosplay.
That was also the day i started to feel really unwell from my medication, so that sadly shows on the photo's. I'm still happy with the photo's, the Kimono just looks so pretty

The Wakizashi vs The Katana. Basically a Japanese version of seeing a Shortsword vs Longsword fight.
Interesting see how much difference reach makes. Not as much as I would have thought.
