blood tells (a tale all its own)

Darcy looks a lot like her mother.

Most of that is by nature, some of that is by choice.

With a name like “Current Events,” she thought she’d be safe taking the class. News and stuff, right? She could handle that. Darcy really should have known better. She should have considered that ‘current’ could have variable definitions depending on perspective. Unluckily for her, the professor took a long view encompassing most of the past fifty years. The syllabus was the only warning she had, the outline told her that on week six they’d focus on assassinations that shaped society.

She clicked on the corresponding link to find the assigned reading and felt her stomach do a dip and roll. “The President Who Wasn’t - Friend or Foe of Humanity?” was the title that jumped out at her. She debated dropping the class, but eventually settled on skipping week six.

It had been five years. It was still too soon.

She knows she’s lucky. She knows.

1. Her mutation is easily hidden. She can pass. 2. Her family loves her.

But she still wonders about the other side of her family. Her father was a foundling, albeit an oddly well-funded one from what her grandparents’ investigators could turn up. They never found anything on his family though, in spite of the money they poured into the endeavor. It’s a mystery, but they’re almost certainly the ones she got her x-gene from.

She knows that her father hated what she was. She knows. There are entire youtube channels devoted to his fiery speeches, preaching hate against her and others like her. Sometimes she can’t help but wonder what if. Would he have changed his mind if he knew about her? Probably not. She’ll never know for sure, but she wonders. She tries not to let it eat at her.

Sometimes she succeeds.

When Darcy was twelve years old, she woke up with buttery-gold eyes and blue freckles scattered like a thick coat of midnight stars on her otherwise fair skin. Her first thought was cool and then can I keep them? It didn’t occur to her to be scared until she smelled the fear on her mother.

Of course, she didn’t realize what she was smelling until Heather Lewis was well into the throes of a panic attack.

Her mother kept patting her hair and crying. “Oh baby, baby, it’ll be okay, we’ll be okay, we’ll figure something out,” she kept whispering it, over and over like a mantra. “It’ll be okay, we’ll figure something out.” Heather’s hands were shaking and tears were pouring down her face unacknowledged.

Darcy was terrified.

That was how her grandparents found them: Heather clutching Darcy close to her, shaking so hard she was near to swaying back and forth. Darcy holding her mother just as fiercely, crying just as hard in confusion and fear.

Grandpa took Darcy and grandma took her mom, in two hours they reconvened in the parlor. Darcy learned three things that day:

1. Her father’s name was Graydon Creed. 2. She was a mutant. 3. If either of the first two became well-known, she could be in danger. If both of the first two became known, she could die.

They danced around the ‘death’ thing, but even as a child she could read between the lines. Her father had been making a name for himself over the past few years, making waves in the political sphere with his group, “The Friends of Humanity.” He was making a campaign off of anti-mutant paranoia and if it ever got out that he had a daughter, out of wedlock, who was a mutant...the damage to his image would be catastrophic.

It was nothing but old money snobbery that had kept Graydon out of her life up to that point. Her grandparents had given her mother an ultimatum: keep her boyfriend or keep the child. If she’d chosen the former, they would have quietly arranged for her to have an abortion but allowed her to continue at her elite boarding school in much the same way she had, considering it a ‘warning’ of sorts. Heather chose the latter and allowed her parents to withdraw her from school and squirrel her away to a more remote estate where they could pretend that Darcy was her little sister.

That was the story they told. One of those polite society fictions that stood up as well as a tower of cards, remaining intact only as long as others were kind enough not to blow on it. It helped that Darcy’s grandmother was a society dame, the kind who could make or break reputations with a single word because she knew all the dirt and wouldn’t hesitate to use it. It helped even more that Darcy’s mother was quiet about her indiscretion, didn’t flaunt it or step out of the line her parents had drawn in the sand.

Heather chose her battles carefully and, nine times out of ten, she fought for Darcy rather than herself.

Darcy had been home-schooled by her mother’s choice up till the age of twelve. After the manifestation of her x-gene it became a necessity. She learned to metamorph away her more outlandish outward traits (the blue freckles and yellow eyes she got at twelve; the pointed canines and elongated ears she grew at thirteen; the retractible claws on hands and feet she sprouted at fifteen; the tail which she never told anyone about at seventeen) enough to go to high school.

All the while she watched her father’s support grow. She tracked his progress through papers and tv adverts, through her grandfather’s blustery remarks about his dim prospects to the very real fear behind her mother and grandmother’s eyes. If Graydon Creed won, the mutants, as a whole, would lose.

Her father’s success would be her people’s downfall.

It fucked her up.

Then, days after formally announcing his candidacy for president, Graydon Creed was assassinated at a rally in Ohio.

It fucked her up worse.

In college, Darcy meets her first out-and-proud mutant.

There had been none at the fancy private boarding school she’d attended. Even if there had been, she wouldn’t have been allowed to associate with them. Creed’s death might have made the world safer for mutants and, in a very specific sort of way, Darcy, but there were plenty ready to pick up his banner of hate and intolerance. The very last thing the Lewises wanted was for Darcy to come out of the closet and be hurt.

Darcy knows that that rule comes from a place of caring. She can literally smell it on them. That doesn’t make their active and aggressive denial of a very real part of her hurt any less.

So when she meets the girl called Lorna, it’s a revelation.

Lorna has green hair, and not just on her head: all of her visible body hair is green. She lives on Darcy’s floor and by the end of the first week of freshman year, they’ve swapped assigned roommates so they can live together. Lorna doesn’t say if her x-gene does more than give her awesome hair and Darcy never asks.

Darcy doesn’t tell her the truth, but it’s a near thing. The fear is just too deeply ingrained. She regrets it when the X-Men come for Lorna, halfway through sophomore year. She doesn’t even get a chance to say goodbye properly, stuck in class when Lorna up and leaves.

They still exchange emails though.

“Did you love him, mom?” Darcy asked, once, in that brief, awful period between finding out who her father was and seeing him shot on national tv.

Heather had shrugged, pulling her daughter closer to tuck under her arm. “Part of me still loves him,” she admitted quietly. “He gave me you.”

“But without me, you could still be with him,” she said, soft like a secret.

Her mother tilted her head to the side, thinking very carefully about Darcy’s not-quite-a-question. “I don’t know,” she said finally. “I’d like to think that I would have left him when I saw how deep the hate ran, but...” She smiled a little wistfully, “Your father was - is a very charismatic man. You’ve got a little of that spark. No, really.” Her lips pressed together and a wrinkle formed between her eyes, “I’m sorry I can’t give you a better answer. I don’t know what would have happened without you, but honey?”

“Yeah?”

“I chose you over him. I will always choose you.”

Her mother is a librarian and her father was a politician and Darcy...

Darcy is a perpetual student of life, or at least that’s how she tries to sell it to her grandparents. She manages six years at Culver, ends up with a double major in political science and biology, one minor in social justice. It’s unfortunate for her that Culver requires more diversity in certain fields. She still has six credits of science requirement to kill and two options:

1. Take Rocks for Jocks. 2. Intern with a crazy astrophysicist.

Darcy takes the internship and never looks back.

She learned control out of necessity. It was learn control or be confined to the estate. Her mother did most of the real work, teaching her to meditate, helping her figure out how to associate scents with emotions and physiological tells. But sometimes Darcy just felt so pent-up, so caged.

She learned to escape into her own head.

She fell into music and let it express all the emotions she couldn’t. All the things she wanted to say and ways she wanted to react and had to hold back every moment of every single day. Her body, the one natural to her, had claws and a tail and fangs and elongated pupils and heightened senses -

Sometimes she wondered, didn’t her family realize those manifestations were more than just cosmetic?

Sometimes she wondered, did they care?

Darcy knew, on some level, that her instincts weren’t wrong just different.

It didn’t always help.

Jane is the second person Darcy wants to tell.

Not so much because she epically trusts her on sight or anything, but, well, Jane has a tendency to get a little too caught up in science and forget things like showering or cleaning. It’s a problem. Darcy grew up in a house kept clean by a weekly service. Darcy has always kept her dorm room as clean as possible because her nose demands it.

Living and working with Jane is...an adjustment.

The Thor thing? That’s enough to send Darcy’s entire world out of alignment.

this isn’t perfect but i’m too impatient to wait any longer. below the cut is a list of my most active ocs. if you look at my tags, i have a tendency to create plot bunnies ocs whenever i consume a new piece of media and then move on to the next hyper fixation within a week. but the ocs in this list are the ones i keep coming back to and are most proud of.

MCU OCs

Name: Sasha Harmon FC: Conor Leslie Species: Human Phase: Post Iron Man 1 - Endgame Love Interest: eventual Loki Laufeyson Series Title: Apostasies Pinterest Board Summary: (Tony Stark has a sister and that, somehow, changes everything) Sasha Harmon is normal. Perfectly, precisely normal. She knows so— she’s worked very hard to keep it this way. Always careful, always quiet. Trying not to draw too much attention to herself, trying to keep anyone from looking too closely and seeing how sometimes she completely disappears from sight—a strange ability she’s tried to control since childhood.

Her dad’s new boss showing up where Sasha works is a fun little anecdote to tell her roommate—Tony Stark orders jelly donuts with black coffee. But then it happens again—and again and again.

Basics to know: As a favor to her brother, Howard Stark helps Josephine become Dr. Erskine’s assistant during Project Rebirth. Josephine quickly befriends Steve Rogers during the candidate trials. She is a skilled nurse and often treats his various scraps and bruises from training as they discuss what ever books they’re reading. When the Project succeeds but Erskine dies, Josephine is determined to stay with Steve, watch over what Erksine’s work has created. Steve rescues the 107th Regiment (including Josephine’s brother) and Josephine becomes the official nurse for the Howling Commandos throughout the war.

After the war, Josephine is tasked by the newly formed SHEILD to recreate the serum. In 2013 she is found. When she is brought out of cryosleep, her memories are scrambled and she has no answers for Fury’s questions, asking where she has been all these years. She only has fragments of recollection—pain and cold and a metal hand around her throat.

Name: Briar Stilinski FC: Riley Voelkel Species: Grimm Love Interest: Peter Hale Fic Title: Atrophy Pinterest Board Summary: Nicer summary to come. Basics to know: Younger sister of Sheriff Stilinski and Stiles’s Aunt. When Briar is eighteen she starts to see monsters in the faces of people she’s known most of her life. For three years, the doctors in Eichen House tell her she is delusional—monster’s aren’t real, take your medicine. She does and she is allowed to leave. She tries to put her life back on track. She goes to college and studies folklore, rationalizing that monsters are just stories and lessons for children, nothing more. Four elements and Jae Shin couldn’t bend one. She’d tried, oh how she tried.

Her life had been spent in dedication to them—studying their philosophies, practicing their movements, surrounding herself with them, trying to become them. Wind in her hair as she spun at the edge of a cliff. Water in her lungs as she dove into the sea. Burns on her skin as she touched a candle’s flame. Dirt under her nails as she clawed at the earth.

She was the only child from Tenzin and Lin Beifong’s ill-fated relationship, born several years before her airbending siblings. She was the granddaughter of the Avatar, of the master waterbender Katara, of the metalbending inventor Toph.

This great legacy of bending, of the Air Nation, rested on her shoulders. But she was only a pretender.

She could wear the robes, say the words, and put on a mask. She could be the perfect airbender in appearance. She played this role well as she smiled in front of flashing cameras, as she guided people through the museum she built to honor Aang. All she has done has been for legacy. Always for legacy, for family. But pretense couldn’t change the truth.

She couldn’t bend. She couldn’t change. She kept trying anyways.

Name: Maru Occupation: Probender Radio Commentator Nationality: Foggy Swamp Tribe Love Interest: Iroh II Fic Title: Faultlines Pinterest Board Summary: Nicer summary to come. Basics to know: A waterbender from the Foggy Swamp Tribe and childhood frenemies with Tahno. Jae Shin’s best friend. They met when he first moved to Republic City and got arrested for the small mayhem his pet catgator caused. Jae Shin met him at the police station while she was visiting her mother and she arranged for the catgator to be taken to Air Temple Island where she could live in peace in one of the ponds of the island. Maru would visit often so he and Jae Shin quickly befriended each other.

Moonlit Throne historical clarifications/references

i want to accurately represent the history from the joseon era, but sometimes for the sake of story/ease of accessibility, things had to be minorly changed. the following is a list of creative choices/changes i make in the writing of Moonlit Throne, as well as further information about the history/culture that i’ve found through my own research 💓 i hope this can also provide some more context for those interested. this list is to be updated as the series progresses so i always recommend you read the latest drabble before checking for more info here for risk of spoilers. please correct me if i get any info wrong!!

king gwanghae - as mentioned in the line “gwanghae flow” & in the rest of the MV, Daechwita was inspired by this historical king & the movie about him. Moonlit Throne is not inspired by any king. any event that is similar is purely coincidental!

topknot - various sources state that only married men were allowed to wear their hair up, though this is often not the case in popular korean media. even though Yoongi is unmarried, i chose to pay homage to the daechwita MV & give him a topknot throughout the series. *** same goes for the blonde hair color!

months - traditionally, they followed the lunar calendar in the Joseon era. but i thought that that would be a bit difficult to explain for modern audiences so i am choosing to use the months/modern equivalents of dates.

yoongi’s scar - i am aware that Scarlet Heart Ryeo depicts the facial scar as a reason that someone could not become king. i haven’t found much on this in the way of historical sources, so it’s not a factor in my series!

uinyeo - aka. reader’s mom, and eventually reader herself. at the time, it was believed that women could not be treated by male doctors due to the shame of showing a man their body, even in a medical context. this position was generally occupied by a woman that was ranked below middle-class & commoner (think merchants/fishermen/etc.) as it was not a very desireable role. reader’s mom, Eun-a, is the head uinyeo, which is why she is called “su-uinyeo-nim” by others.

***i haven’t found any information that says men couldn’t be treated by women due to the Confucius beliefs, so at least in this story, reader helps out the male physicians from time to time.

eunuch - eunuchs were impotent or castrated men (had all or part of their genitals removed) who worked within the palace walls, serving and attending the royal family. they had their own hierarchy, like head eunuch, etc. it was possible for eunuchs to marry & have families of their own.

***Eunuch Kim has a 🍆! it’s just his testicles that were removed.

yoongi’s name - technically kings use temple names that end in jo or jong instead of their given names, but i’m keeping it as Yoongi!!

age - it’s revealed in the march 1858 drabble that Yoongi is officially turning 10 years old that year, but this is in Korean age. his birth year is 1849, which would make him 9 years old in age as we know it internationally. Korean tradition dictates that people age up at the start of the new year (Jan 1), not on their actual birthday. traditionally, they also add an extra year as they consider the baby 1 year old at birth, not 0 years old. to do the math, reader is two years older than him, which would make her born in 1847 & turning 12 that year!

*** the average life expectancy around that time was ~35-40, so their understanding of a teenager would be very different than ours, at least in terms of maturity. thus, even though the main characters are relatively young by today’s standards, i’ve written them to come off as older. UPDATED INFO: it seems court ladies could live up to rather elderly ages, even up to 70, so i’m not sure if the earlier statistic was just mainly for men.

birthdays - i couldn’t find any information about whether they celebrated the actual day of birth as well back then, only about 100 day milestones, etc. but it is part of Korean culture to celebrate the birthday in modern times, so i kept it in.

jeonha - similar to mama, this is how you refer to the king as an equivalent to “Your Majesty”. wangseja-jeonha is the full title for the crown prince. usually people just call him seja-jeonha.

women’s rights - how much freedom you have kind of depends on what rank you are. most of the upper court/noble ladies (yangban) are born & raised within the palace. they were very, very rarely allowed to leave (& if they were married off, then they would have to leave with like guards/people with them). it’s unfortunate but they were treated like property, passed off from father -> husband. from what i can gather, the lower ranked women (like the uinyeo) had a bit more liberty about going into town (or at least ive seen in media), mostly bc no one cared about them.... sad truth but truth nonetheless.

king’s authority - even though the king is the ruler of the entire land, he doesn’t have absolute authority over everything. generally kings in the joseon era had to listen to the advice of the court officials if they thought he was making the wrong choice.

Minister Choi’s execution - so actually there were several types of executions for people of different ranks. someone of Minister Choi’s status likely would have been given a less gruesome death via. poison (sasa or 사사). but i’m keeping it as a beheading to pay homage to the daechwita MV!

***i also came across an article that said only royal blood could be spilled on the palace grounds so i’m not 100% sure where the public execution square was located, only that there was one & it was separate from the palace. also a lot of dramas seem to ignore this rule, so i’m not sure.

perfume - this existed back then! along with cosmetics. they were a luxury item for mostly the upper class, but they definitely existed.

Queen Jeonghui’s birthday - fun fact! i borrowed this real life queen’s name first, for drabble 3. then i found out, it just so happens that her real birthday falls in November as well. it was a total coincidence haha.

OC’s outfit/hairstyle - this is what she would have worn!

palace - the layout of the series setting is loosely based off Gyeongbokgung Palace! if you look at the map, i’ve set the private gardens at #24 (though the position of the island is different than how it looks in the map. it’s instead from the right side going towards the left), Yoongi’s private residence is #25. reader is moved into #23. #26-28 are libraries, which includes the crown prince’s private library.

*** also the palace is much bigger than you might imagine so to get anywhere takes some time & a bit of walking!

jipgyeongdang (집경당) - #22 on the map. along with #23 (below), were traditionally houses for concubines & palace maids before Yoongi moved them.

hamhwadang (함화당) - #23 on the map. where reader lives post December 1868.

sanggung - the highest rank available for women who served the palace/royal family. a woman could become a “favored sanggung” if she slept with the king, but not a proper concubine. normally from the “commoner” class.

sangmin - “commoner” class. made up about 80% of joseon’s people. were the farmers, fishermen, laborers, etc. these were the people that paid taxes and were ruled over by the nobles!

cheonmin - the rank below commoner, described in English as “vulgar commoner.” the upper classes considered these people “unclean.” among their numbers were butchers, sex workers, performers, shoemakers, and yes, uinyeo. they were normally given little to no respect at all within society.

concubine - women that had the honor of sleeping with the king. concubines had their own ranks within them as the king usually had many (think around a dozen). more info.

town - from what i can gather, directly outside of the palace is a small town. if you think of the Daechwita MV, it’s like the town that Yoongi walks through when he has black hair. this is where mostly people of the middle/lower class, like sangmin & those below that, live.

chuseok - Korean harvest festival! it means “autumn evening with the brightest moon”. it’s usually celebrated on the 15th day of the eighth month in the lunar calendar. that would put it anywhere around sept 9-oct 2 in our modern calendar depending on the year!

yangban - these are the “ruling class” or gentry of the joseon era. generally means their families own land, are somewhat (or very) wealthy, and they are well-educated. (think Mr. Darcy, for a British equivalent)

why does no one recognize the prince in town? - with a lack of access to pictures & internet, it was common for the normal citizens of the country to not know what their monarchs looked like. generally to identify people & rank, they had to rely on appearance. gold was a color only reserved for royalty, so only the king & his sons could wear the royal robes with gold embroidery. once Yoongi takes off those robes, it’d be hard to identify him from among regular yangban!

jeon - these are bits of shrimp/vegetables/fish/other small things that are deep fried in egg batter!

nokdujeon - this is like a small, savory pancake made with, you guessed it, mung beans!

Chun-ja calling Eunuch Kim “Kim-nim” - look. i’ll be straight with you i have no idea how a commoner would refer to a eunuch. i’m flip-flopping between his title (which i also cannot figure out bc idk which of the 18 political ranks he would be, but not for lack of trying y’all T_T) & his name with the respectful -nim. so just to be safe, i’m going with it.

***i also am not 100% on this, but i believe Eunuchs rank higher than commoners because they work in the palace? which is why Eunuch Kim uses “-ssi” for her.

hangul & hanja - so the Korean alphabet as we know it is called hangul, and it was invented in 1443. in the past, they used to use hanja, Chinese characters, to write documents.

female literacy rate - as related to above, it was rare for women to be able to read/write even up until the late 19th century. they weren’t allowed to learn hanja at all & only around 4% could learn hangul. of those 4%, it was mostly noble women, who received good education to be better wives.

***books were then thus read aloud by those literate to crowds, so people could still enjoy stories.

face - the concept of “face” is very much rooted in Asian culture. in Korea, it’s called chemyon, & is basically related to your reputation + how others see you. you can lose, build, or gain face through your actions or what rumors of you spread. for example, if parents have children with bad grades, they + the child lose face. people should strive to do things to build their family’s honor & face up. i’ve experienced firsthand how people go to sometimes extreme lengths to “save face” as the term goes. basically, if you’re going to do something shameful, it’s better to do it where no one can see. (this concept isn’t going to have a huge influence in the series, at least not so far & i use it rather lightheartedly in October 1865 but i just thought that it’s really interesting + important to know about Asian culture!)

French expedition to Korea (Byeong-in yangyo) - in October 1866, the second French empire tried to invade Korea (or Joseon as it was called at the time) because the king at the time executed seven French missionaries. after several months of fighting, Korea won with only four soldiers killed & 3 wounded (compared to France: 3 killed, 35 wounded). Joseon was able to stay relatively isolated from all the other countries, continuing the practice of isolationism.

gossip - i couldn’t find any laws prohibiting people from talking about court going-ons/battles, though i would assume that it’s punishable if you’re doing it to talk badly about the king. but even if there were laws in place, word gets around, as word tends to do. therefore, i’ve given Eunuch Kim a bit more freedom in his letters.

royal funerals - it could actually take up to 5 months for the coffin to begin its journey to the resting tomb, but i’ve expedited the timeline for plot purposes!

coronations - these actually weren’t super common in Korea or Asia in general, but it did happen once in the 1700s for King Yeongjo. i’m using that as inspiration for Yoongi’s crowning.

*** also i couldn’t find info on the exact wording that King Yeongjo used when he announced his succession to his deceased brother’s body so... i took some creative license there.

gama - how yangban & up women travelled, carried by their servants. here’s a visual!

the royal engagement - actually, Beom-su would not have lived within the palace walls. she would have lived in a detached palace that was further away from the main palace, and there would be a whole procession where the king goes to her during their wedding rites. however, i’ve seen several dramas have the bride-to-be hang around a lot, which seems to be true because she would have had to learn the customs of the palace, so i’m not sure how much she would have been around realistically. i’ve just chosen not to address it, like the dramas do.

Beom-su’s name - i chose this name for her because of one of the possible hanja for beom: “犯”, which i would pair with the hanja “秀” for su. her name would basically mean excellent invasion, which i thought was a bit cruel, slightly humorous, & overall fitting. it is normally a masculine name though!

why are Beom-su’s father’s actions such a scandal? - so all the unmarried women living/working in the palace were considered the king’s property. he could sleep with them if he wanted to, but essentially they belonged to him. by laying hands on the maid, the minister committed a double sin because he not only was he assaulting someone, but he was infringing upon the king’s territory.

civil service exam (gwageo) - this is an exam issued every 3 years that any man, commoner rank & above, could take in order to enter into civil service. it’s what Jimin takes to enter into the court! i’m not sure what month these were held or if it was just at the king’s discretion (could not find much info)

more on eunuch kim & the re-marriage process

royal tombs - these were often quite far away from the actual palace but looking on maps, i found that there were a few tombs rather close to the palace that people could have conceivably travelled to within a day, over several long hours on horseback!

on natural disasters - yes, in history, natural disasters like floods/earthquakes/eclipses were said to be the king’s fault because he wasn’t a good enough ruler! things like this could seriously derail the people’s trust in the king and was a big cause of concern.

on Queen Jeonghui being in court meetings - i couldn’t find actual evidence that said the queen couldn’t be at these daily meetings between officials. in fact, the real life Empress Myeongseong in the ~1870s was pretty involved in politics and was quite interested in matters of law, etc. so, i’ve decided to allow Jeonghui to be present and address the ministers alongside Yoongi!

Chunaengjeon - i kind of explain more about this already in the drabble itself but if you’re curious, it’s the only solo court dance in the Joseon era and the highlight of the dance is a moment where the dancer mimics a bird perched on a flower and smiles :’) i thought it was fitting for these two. here’s a video of a performance that i used as reference!

janae - there were quite a few different terms for couples to call each other during this time. “janae” was meant to represent wife and is kind of their equivalent to our... “honey”? it was mostly used among the commoners/lower classes to convey affection and closeness. (aka eunuch kim continues to be the cutest)

on adopting a child as a eunuch - the readings i found say that eunuch kim’s children must be eunuchs themselves if he adopts them directly, but they don’t mention anything about this particular case of a eunuch marrying a widow, aka the child is not directly adopted by Eunuch Kim himself. so Han-jae will not be a eunuch when he grows up!

american invasion of korea (shinmiyangyo) - this is a true historical event, as i’ve mentioned in my author’s note for “June 1871.” Americans repeatedly violated Korean soveriegnty and invaded their land, resulting in many, many deaths for the Korean side. they were hoping this destruction would force Korea to accept the trade treaty. Korea did not, and eventually were able to chase the Americans out of their land a month later. the wikipedia page goes into greater detail if you’re interested, and is a quick overview of the situation.

seong-min’s living situation - as i’ve mentioned earlier with the whole Beom-su situation, i’ve chosen to not use the detached palace again for this engagement as dramas tend to do.

the wedding ceremony - similar to my reasoning about the detached palace, i’ve chosen to focus on only a few parts of the marriage rites while only briefly mentioning the rest. why? well, while i would LOVE to explain all the details and intricacies of such an incredible process, i feel like that would take a lot away from the heart of the story and be distracting, especially at such a critical stage. so i’ve explained what i can, and given brief overviews where i am able. ofc i adjusted the parading ceremony because of the change of the detached palace custom. if you’d like an easy-to-read source on the whole process, please check out this link! basically the MLT chapter depicts a tweaked vers of steps 5 and 6. 1-3 happened behind the scenes, and i mentioned #4 in the “summer 1871″ drabble.

chungin - our equivalent of “white collar” workers, or the upper-middle class. this rank was made up of low-level bureaucrats, accountants, physicians, etc. some royal servants would also be part of this rank because they’re allowed to enter the palace. there is an exam (chapkwa) to become this rank!

conception dreams (taemong) - as uinyeo-nim explains in the drabble, these dreams were often seen as omens of impending pregnancy. depending on what you see in your dream, there are different interpretations. possible symbols are animals, fruits, elements of nature, children, and jewels. eg. if you dreamed of fruits, it was often considered to be a sign of having a baby girl.

other conception myths - i know from my own experience that Asians often have a lot of superstitions regarding conception and pregnancy and medical things in general. however, i couldn’t find any specific conception myths for the time period in question (most of my research only uncovered superstitions for after you’re already pregnant), so i’ve taken some creative license here, using the conception dreams and current beliefs as inspiration!

on Queen Jeonghui calling oc “dear” - since I prefer not to use Y/N, ___, etc. for reader’s name and just generally avoid mentioning it, it’s nearly impossible for me to convey the tone with which Queen Jeonghui would’ve been calling OC in this chapter. in Korean, she would be saying “[name]-yah/ah” depending on the ending syllable of the name. adding that suffix to the end of a name conveys closeness and intimacy between people. I’ve chosen to substitute it for “dear” to make things sound more natural in English. it’s not an exact match, but it’ll have to do!

Ocs Core Family; The Barnes-Lewis [ 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐓𝐑𝐎𝐋 ━━ 𝘸𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 ]

The Barnes-Lewis family is made up of two mothers, Darcy Lewis and Freya Laufeydottir, as well as having one father, James “Bucky” Barnes. They have two children, their eldest daughter begging Adore Barnes-Lewis, and their youngest begging Kara Barnes-Lewis!

❝ Freya Laufeydottir, for as long as she can remember, had never planned to fall in love or have kids. Which, now that she actually thinks about it, is ironic coming from the literal Norse goddess of such various things like; sex, fertility, and love. But, the goddess did. Freya had ended up falling deeply in love with a formerly brainwashed super solider that was out of his time and a brilliant young girl that had sarcasm that could match her own twin’s. The trio were certainly an odd pair, but, in a way, that’s why they made sense to be together. They we’re also excellent parents. With pasts like Freya and Bucky’s, it made them definitely know what they didn’t want they’re daughters going through and some perspective on what to do better. Now when it comes to Darcy parenting, well, simply put, she the one that probably spoils them the most... ❞

Jack Kelly

A salesman at a local paper company, a job he originally sees himself as getting out of fairly quickly despite sticking around for ten years.

He’s a talented, but insecure artist, longing to go to school for art and eventually make a living off of his work

Growing up, Jack has two older brothers who are difficult to get along with as they both were jocks and loved to pick on him

Also growing up, Jack had an abusive father and a mother who walked out on him at a very young age.

Upon beginning to work at Dunder Mifflin, Jack finds himself falling for the quiet receptionist

Finding out that said receptionist is and has been engaged, he starts on the hardest waiting period of his life

Jack is the prankster of the office, choosing mostly to blow off his actual work and mess with his desk mate Sean whom he calls “Spot” just to mess with him more

This catches on until the whole office calls Sean “Spot”

Jack often gets bored as he claims that he hates his job and is looking for ways around actually doing it, especially in the beginning

He’s a huge baseball fan, though he admits he wasn’t a huge fan of playing sports even though he was on several teams in high school, as he wanted to be able to match his brothers’ accomplishments.

His sarcasm is a sort of escape from the world around him.

Does not like costumes very much

Everybody loves Jack except for Spot, who is convinced that Jack is his worst nemesis.

It takes Jack a long time to admit his feelings for Katherine, the receptionist he’s fallen in love with, and when he does, he is overall rejected, prompting him to request a job transfer

Eventually moving on, Jack ends up dating one Davey Jacobs from another branch of the company before that branch is closed and he’s moved back

He’d always been scared about being openly bisexual, but he liked Davey

Eventually, he realizes that despite liking Davey, he’s still very much in love with Katherine and breaks up with the other man, asking Katherine out on a date.

Davey eventually becomes his best friend

After asking Katherine out finally, the two end up staying together and getting married

Jack proposes at a gas station in the rain when he eventually goes away to art school for three months

Together, Jack and Katherine have two kids.

They find out they’re pregnant on accident before they are married

He often lives spontaneously, never running anything by anyone and hoping for the best

Eventually becomes one of the most trusted people within the company

Is forever devoted to Katherine

His father dies before his wedding and Jack can’t bring himself to cry and, when faced with going back into his childhood home, finds he can’t do it

Becomes protective of his friends, including his coworkers (especially Crutchie once he begins working there)

Is attacked at one point by Katherine’s ex-fiancé

Is very soft and romantic

Is often teased for being bi, especially by the “traditionalists” in his office who claim he practically has slept with everyone in the office

Brushing things off fairly easily, again using sarcasm and jokes to mask his feelings

Is slightly protective of Henry who is very young and naive and continuously goes back to a relationship that is toxic for him

Finds humor in any situation he can.

Genuinely likes to make people happy and will do a lot to make that happen

Katherine Plumber

Is shy and quiet when she starts working at Dunder Mifflin

Is often referred to as boring and solemn

Is in an endless, slightly abusive relationship that she’s convinced is meant to be for eight years, ever since high school.

Grows up as an only child with well off “normal” parents who end up divorcing each other when she and Jack are engaged

Is the “hottie” of the office and is one of the few women who work there, the youngest actually

Jack often has to subtly get people to stop harassing her

She enjoys writing and even has her own blog and publishes her own journals online. Jack reads every single one of them

Is very close with her mother and has a strained relationship with her father who does not like Jack and likes her previous fiancé better

Katherine is very meek and shy towards the beginning of her career, but often gravitated towards Jack because he brought out the humorous, adventurous side of her

Had been dating the same man since her freshman year of high school, despite him bringing his brother on their first date and abandoning her at a basketball game having forgotten about her.

Despite being engaged for three years, she often jokes that there’s no end in sight

Tries to convince herself that Jack is like her brother in the beginning to deny her own feelings for him

Jack teaches her how to fight, telling her that she’s a woman who often walks alone in New York City and she needs to have some training on her side

She comes from a rich family who she denies funds from in an attempt to be independent.

After Jack admits his feelings for her, she lets him kiss her, resulting in her calling off her wedding without explanation

Losing touch with Jack for a long few months, Katherine finds herself wanting to be more assertive, saying what she wants and making sure she gets it

Realizing she’s in love with Jack after seeing and accidentally picking up a call from him over the months he was gone, she embarks on a waiting period similar to Jack’s as Jack is in a relationship with Davey and she fears it will never end

Davey and her actually end up becoming pretty good friends, and after Jack and Davey break up, he becomes a sort of confidant and best friend to the both of them. After a while, obviously. David’s not too happy with Kath after Jack breaks up with him

During Jack’s relationship with David, Katherine ends up going back to her ex, lasting for a while before she wants to be honest with him.

She tells him about Jack’s kiss resulting in him having a hissy fit and starting a bar fight and later attacking Jack at their workplace.

Jack and Katherine start to grow closer again after this

Once they start dating, Katherine starts to break through her shell

When Jack goes away to art school she’s disappointed he didn’t propose to her but ends up accepting his proposal when meeting him halfway

She finds out she’s pregnant after twisting her ankle playing volleyball, which she’s rather good at, at a company picnic before the wedding

Jack and her run away from their own wedding when things go wrong and get married on a boat before having the wedding they planned

While going into labor, Katherine admits she’s terrified and sees herself as unfit to be a mother before Jack promises her that they’re in this together

She has two children with Jack

Her and Race have a strained relationship despite the fact that they both constantly try to be friends

While she often helps Jack on his pranks with Spot, she is kind to Spot and is one of the only people who knows about his secret relationship from the start

When Jack starts a business that takes off in Santa Fe, she and him begin to fight but eventually get over their single rough patch and end up drawing closer together

She stands up for herself and her family above all else

Spot Conlon

Is a born and raised traditionalist according to everyone else

Lives on a beat farm

Believes that there are strict rules for men and women that should be followed as he’s basically been brainwashed since he was born

Is in an on again off again relationship with a man, which he is at first ashamed of, as men were not supposed to sleep with other men

Is a purple belt in karate

Is the highest ranking salesman at Dunder Mifflin

Believes his biggest nemesis to be Jack who is constantly trying to prank him in various ways, ranging from simple and childish to well thought out and expertly orchestrated

Main goal in life is to become the manager at Dunder Mifflin despite being loyal to the current manager who’s not quite as big an idiot as Michael Scott is

Is named Assistant Regional Manager but if often referred to as Assistant to the Regional Manager

Volunteer Sheriff’s deputy for a while

Wants to be the leader of his workplace but would also do what needs to be done in order to protect his coworkers at any cost (ex: saving Jack from getting beaten to a pulp by Kath’s ex)

Is an expert paintball player

Falls in love with the head of accounting (his on again off again relationship) and is actually able to make his partner happy

Had a somewhat abusive and distant father and basically raised himself and his younger cousin Vince

Spot enjoys having control over things, making life a bit harder for the people around him as he enjoys acting as somewhat of a vigilante.

Is in a relationship with the head of accounting, Race, until he murders Race’s cat and is dumped, sending him spiraling into depression

Upon this break, Race starts dating and gets engaged to Albert DaSilva, a salesman who came back with Jack

Towards the end of that engagement, Spot wins Race back in the event of having an affair before both Spot and Albert have enough and walk away

Eventually Spot ends up in a relationship with a friend of Katherine’s named Riddle (@bexlynne’s amazing OC)

Moves from this relationship back to Race after a while and then back again until eventually realizing that Race is the only one for him and running Race off the road to propose to him.

Regards Katherine as his best friend despite her marrying his worst enemy

He loves Katherine’s kids who grow up calling him “uncle Spot” against Jack’s wishes

Learns sign language for his boyfriend

Knows German as he mostly spoke German growing up

Is fairly closed off

Will do anything to protect the people he cares about

Racetrack Higgins

The head of accounting at Dunder Mifflin

Raised in a very religious home for most of his life before being moved around in different foster homes, most of which were bad

Is mostly deaf with one hearing aid that allows him to work normally even though he often shuts the thing off to actually concentrate

Learns sign language from a teacher at his school who wants him to be able to actually communicate in a proper way that he can easily understand.

Is often cold towards people who talk down to him or talk slower so he can try to read their lips

Owns several cats

Head of the party planning committee

Craves validation

Is perceived as homophobic before his romance with Spot Conlon is found out by Katherine

Has a strained relationship with Katherine who he constantly tries to be friends with when he’s in a good mood.

Bottles up his emotions as best he can out of force of habit

Hates people who put their relationships on display as he views it as indecent

Is unapologetic

Is in an on again off again relationship with Spot Conlon who often calls him “Monkey”

After this relationship officially ends for the first time, he is asked out by Albert DaSilva

Accepting this, he finds he’s easily annoyed by Albert but likes how sweet the man can be when he tries

Eventually Race begrudgingly accepts a proposal from him, one that spoils Jack and Kath’s original plan for a proposal

Has an affair with Spot towards the end of the engagement, leaving Spot and Al to fight over him in an old fashioned duel

Jack finds Race crying in the bathroom and looks up the signs to promise he won’t tell anyone

Race connects with the receptionist that takes over for Katherine, as Crutchie also grew up in the foster system, but has a much more positive outlook on life

Race tries to protect him, much like the rest of the office

Later, after Spot’s next relationship, they end up sleeping together again only for Spot to move on eventually

Race is later hit on by a politician who eventually asks for his hand in marriage.

Race agrees, only to later find out that the man was in love with someone else and eventually get dumped and kicked out.

Oscar, whom Race has never truly gotten along with, offers to put Race up while he gets back on his feet, resulting in Race admitting to him that he’s still in love with Spot

When Spot runs him off the road to propose to him, he gets down on one knee and signs to him, making Race cry

Race and Spot adopt a son together and live on Spot’s farm

At the wedding, Jack is Spot’s best man, Katherine is Race’s

Oscar is named their son’s godfather

Race has a really hard life that he refuses to open up about, but he turns out alright in the end

5. What OC has, like, one friend?

Darcy has never really had friends. There were kids at his old school that he got along with, would sit at the same table for lunch with and chat with if he saw them at the library or something, but they never made a point of hanging out together. He’s not good at being social, and finds it much easier to talk to adults than his peers.

6. What OC is the Mom Friend?

Meet the new Mom Friends ™ : Elise, Kayla, and Christine! (I mean, you don’t have to, since you literally helped make them, but … anyway.)

Elise is the Aunt Mom Friend ™ who keeps her distance, because she’s not your mom and it’s not her place to tell you what to do, but will let you know when you’re about to make a dumb decision, give you advice whenever you ask for it, and let you crash at her place for as long as you need. And if you hang around her for long enough, you are learning some basic first aid. No exceptions.

Christine is closest to the Mom Friend ™ archetype: she gives excellent hugs, wants to know if you’ve eaten recently, has a listening ear for anyone who needs it, and checks on the ones who hang on the outskirts of the group -- if they prefer it out there, she won’t force them in, but everybody needs some human interaction now and then.

Kayla is the Practical Mom Friend ™ around whom you’d better mind your P’s and Q’s, keep your elbows and feet off the table, and clean up after yourself. Follow the rules, and she’ll make a point of encouraging you for doing a good job. Go too far off the reservation, and you’ll get the scolding of your life -- but then she’ll dust you off and help you back onto your feet, because rules aren’t there to make people feel bad about themselves, they’re there to make things move smoothly and keep people safe.

7. What OC really needs the Mom Friend around?

Kira, Darcy, and Susanna are all still minors, so maybe it’s cheating to say them, but … well, if their story ever goes anywhere, it’s going to become very obvious that they could use someone to tone down Kira’s dramatics, Susanna’s … Susanna-ness, and get Darcy to look up from his book once in a while.

8. What OCs are an old married couple (literally or figuratively)?

Ash and Lanzo can do a solid impression of one, at times. By accident on Ash’s side, possibly intentionally on Lanzo’s. By this point messing with people is such a big part of his MO, it’s mostly automatic.

9. What is your favorite platonic relationship between your OCs?

There are a lot of people who would expect Connie and Niner not to get along at all. Werecats and werewolves tend to get along like … well … cats and dogs, thanks to their very different lifestyles, philosophies, values, etc. Of course, how well a particular werecat gets along with a particular werewolf has a lot more to do with the personalities of those individuals, and Connie and Niner are an excellent example of that.

Connie and Niner are not social people, but they’ve learned to cohabit with other people peacefully (er, mostly peacefully), and it’s nice to cohabit with someone who doesn’t talk a lot or expect you to. They’re both inclined toward independence and not sticking too closely to societal expectations, albeit Niner far moreso than Connie. Julie and Elise. Most of my various OC families love each other, but they don’t all understand each other, and they don’t all get along. Julie and Elise manage all three, and not just because they’re the sort of people who get along easily with other people. After everything that happens with Jack, they’ve learned to love, understand, and support each other even in situations where that’s hard.

As he stared down the door in frustration, the blonde considered the ramifications of knocking down the barrier between himself and the owners of the home that he stood in front of. While such an act had its positive points, it was the threat of bodily harm and exasperated glares from his friend and his wife that caused Fandral to let out a weary sigh as he moved to lean against the welcoming white brick that stood as an outer wall. He knew as he peered out toward the cars passing by that his presence was not expected; the Allfather requesting the member of the Warriors Three to accompany both his son and daughter-in-law to the BiFrost and Asgard. While such an opportunity to assist the Allfather was desired, Fandral wondered if it would have been better for anyone else connected to the family. Glancing at the infuriating black door with its silver door knocker, a was about to turn around to return his attention on summoning either the Prince or his wife before the aforementioned door opened suddenly; the Prince standing in the threshold with an annoyed grimace. “Your Highness!,” Fandral exclaimed before sketching out an elegant bow; a smile of relief adorning his face before he stood to better address the dark haired Prince. “Good morning, good morning! I am here to escort both you and the Lady Jane to As--” a loud, passionate moan echoing from the upstairs greeted his ears as his blonde eyebrows rose up in surprise, “Loki, is something amiss?” The double eyed Fandral in pure annoyance only to shift toward a mischievous smirk as the pleasure filled sounds continued to fill the house. Whomever had designed its structure had made certain that any and all sounds would be able to successfully echo throughout the house itself. The sounds only grew in earnest; his name being part of each as the God upstairs began to lose focus on maintaining his double; the noticeable struggle growing steadily as the lustful sounds originating from upstairs reached its highest peak only to decrease just as quickly. Embarrassment as well as amusement flooded Fandral’s senses; the blonde wondering if he should have made his presence known at a later time. At first he had wanted to continue his line of questions with the Prince, but as he took in the recognizable waver and shimmy of the double in front of him, he shook his head with a faint chuckle. The relationship between the former Ms. Foster and his friend truly did seem something one would only read about; the love the two of them had for each other having been easily spotted during their visits to Asgard. Recalling when the Prince and his new bride would be caught wandering the gardens of Asgard; their hands locked securely between the two of them as Loki pointed out various species of plants and flowers that he had taken the time to plant, Fandral had to excuse himself as quickly as possible as he caught the two newlyweds busying themselves with each other. The sight of his friend making his way down from the upstairs pulled the blonde away from the memory; the double in front of him fading away as the Prince approached him. “You are the real one, I hope?,” Fandral inquired; his lips quirking up slightly in an amused smirk. Shaking his head briefly, the dark haired Prince moved toward a forgotten lamp that had been left on from the night before. Reaching for the chain that was attached to the mechanism that turned the lamp on and off, he gave the silver chain a slight yank as the room became a bit dimmer. “Why are you here, Fandral?” “Your father asked me to escort you and the Lady Jane to Asgard. Given that I’ve been growing bored assisting with tonight’s party to announce Thor’s engagement to Sif, I figured a much needed trip would liven things up. How lucky of me to be greeted by..-” he paused as he considered the best way to explain his reaction to the sounds that he had heard coming from upstairs, he shook his head before continuing, “the sounds of your name throughout the house. For goodness sake, I could hear it outside!” Loki could not resist smiling as he had been the direct cause of why his lovely wife had been moaning as loud as Fandral mentioned. Choosing to turn the conversation away from Jane’s voice and the pull she had on him, “Make yourself comfortable, Fandral. I just need to gather a few necessities and my wife and I will be down shortly.” With that, he turned around and headed back to their bedroom. ***** The sounds of both her husband’s voice as well as Fandral’s greeted Jane’s ears as she finished getting dressed; her left bare foot disappearing underneath a grey sock. Realizing that both she and Loki were going to be gone for a few months as he was Thor’s best man; a tradition that Tony Stark had mentioned to Thor during one of his many visits, Jane reached for her mobile device that was attached to her wall charger. Unlocking the phone with her password, Jane was greeted with notifications from both Darcy as well as the period calendar that had been recommended to her by Darcy. Opting for Darcy’s notifications first, she soon read in surprise that her brunette intern had sent her photos of baby clothes for her on-the-way baby. Smiling slightly at Darcy’s expressions in each of the photos, Jane’s mind wandered back to the calendar as she recalled the fact that her period had been a no show for the entirety of this month. Chewing on her bottom lip anxiously, she forced her thoughts away from the numerous reasons as to why her period was late, Jane switched back to Darcy’s messages to ask if she’d be willing to get the mail as well as water the plants periodically. As the message was sent to Darcy, Jane rested her left hand along her lower abdomen as she considered the loudest possibility: pregnancy. In the beginning of her marriage to Loki, the two of them had decided they wanted to wait to become parents as they were in between houses and Jane was needed to assist S.H.I.E.L.D with various issues while Loki spent time going to and from Asgard. Now as she contemplated the idea of becoming a mother, she could not help but feel a mix of joy as well as anxiety. Before Loki, she never considered the idea of having a baby; too lost in understanding the stars and so on. Still, like almost everything where Loki was concerned, her life had changed and grown in ways she had not expected whatsoever. Letting out a worried sigh, she knew she was going to need to purchase a pregnancy test and considered when the best time to do so would be when her phone beeped at her as Darcy’s message came through. Glancing down at the forgotten phone, Jane smiled faintly at Darcy’s agreement before setting the device down. It was times like these, Jane mused, that she wished Darcy was there. As much as she valued Loki, she wanted a woman to talk to. Peering down at her still flat abdomen, she found herself wondering if this had been the same reaction her mother had when she found out she was pregnant with Jane. Letting out another sigh, she chuckled humorlessly as she felt her eyes start to sting with the threat of tears. It was, she recognized, times like this when she wished her mom was still around. She had no idea how to be a parent; memories of being part of a mandatory parenting class in high school that resolved in her failing because she had not woken up in time to take care of her crying baby that was, in actuality, a machine that was programmed to cry at random intervals. Taking a deep breath to try to calm the change of mood, Jane brushed both of her hands along her face to wipe away any physical sign of tears. She did not want to alarm Loki; especially as she was not fully certain they were pregnant. Standing in the hallway, the God of Mischief paused as he listened to the sounds coming from the bedroom. Stepping quietly toward the partly opened door, his eyelids narrowed only to widen in concern as he watched Jane draw her hands to her face. Had she been crying? Thoughts of all varieties filled his mind as he tried to consider the cause of his wife’s mood. Frowning to himself, Loki could not think of why she was upset and moved for the only other option that he could think of. As he made his way in, he sat down next to her and placed a hand on her lower back, “Jane, what is it?,” he inquired; his voice low and soft with concern for his wife. Blinking and jerking slightly at the unexpected presence of her husband, Jane forced herself to focus as she stood up and moved to her dresser to start packing. “Is Fandral ready to go?,” she answered his question with a question; the idea of bringing up that she was worried they were going to have a baby being a topic that she was not ready to bring up. Much like the coward that she felt she was. As he watched her get up, Loki sighed as he recognized the fact that she avoiding his question. Given his history of lying, he felt confident in the fact that he knew when someone was doing the same. Standing up, he moved over to Jane and wrapped his arms around her from behind; his lips brushing along the top of her head, “Love, tell me what’s wrong.” Both the soothing warmth of his voice as well as the equally warm embrace of his arms around her threatened to tear down her cowardly attempt as she leaned into his arms. Tears threatening to spill as she chuckled, she began to feel more and more that pregnancy was the reason she had missed her period. “Once I know, you’ll be the first to know. I promise.” Her voice, to her ears, sounded small and scared; much like the thoughts rotating in her mind. “In the meantime, let’s pack up what we need. Oh and--” she paused; the need to purchase a pregnancy test blaring in her mind before she continued, “we need to stop at the drug store before we go to Asgard.” The tone of her voice made his heart ache with increased worry as he longed to protect her from whatever was troubling her. But, he also knew that she kept her promises and so he nodded; letting go of her to pack what he needed. “All right. I will notify Fandral when we’re finished.” **** Carrying the heaviest bags down the stairs, Loki reached the bottom step and glanced over at Fandral. “We need to stop at the drug store before we go. Jane is need of something.” His wife’s footsteps greeted his ears as he heard her moving to stand beside him; the same look of anxiety etching itself on her features. Peering curiously at the worried woman before glancing at Loki; he saw the similar expression looming in his friend’s eyes. Something was definitely amiss between the two of them. “Of course, of course. Lady Jane, may I help you carry anything?,” he gestured at the shoulder bag draped over her body. She shook her head and forced a faint smile to grace her face, “I’ve got it, thanks.” Sparing a glance at Loki who also looked at Jane with concern, Fandral sighed faintly before nodding. “Let us be off to this ‘drug store’!,” he exclaimed, feeling mildly awkward at the tension between the couple. The need to find out whether or not she was pregnant propelled Jane to move ahead of Fandral as she made her way out the door; the sound of her husband’s worried sigh greeting her ears. She began to wonder if it was better off to let him know what was going on, but she was worried about the reaction. Parenting was something they had talked about in the past; names of their hypothetical children filling their bedroom one night as they cuddled close. Shaking her head, Jane continued to step forward; a headache beginning to form as she found herself wanting to sleep. “My friend,” Fandral began as he moved to walk with Loki who had stepped over the threshold while watching Jane walk to the drugstore that was, conveniently, at the corner. “Is something wrong with the Lady Jane? She doesn’t seem herself.” Casting a glance at Fandral who was one of his oldest friends, Loki focused briefly on both closing and locking the door with his magic. “I do not know, Fandral. When I came into the room, it looked as if she was crying. When I asked her about it, she first refused to tell me.” Looking forward, his green eyes focused on his wife who had made her way to the store and disappeared inside. “She, thankfully, did promise that she would tell me once she knew though, in all honesty, that does nothing for me. While she’s no longer a mortal, what if she’s sick from some malady?,” he announced one of the many fears that had presented itself in his mind before he started to walk after her. Frowning himself at the worry emanating from his friend, Fandral too looked in the direction that Jane had gone to. “Loki, whatever it is, Asgard has the best healers so I insist you focus on getting home. Lady Jane is far too strong to be taken down by any illness. I am sure it’s nothing,” he said; attempting to soothe his friend’s worries. The two of them continued onward as they started to talk about Thor’s wedding. (Well! Not the end, haha. Since I’ve still been given ideas from this Lokane muse, I might as well keep going!
