They somehow never mentioned it again so they both think it was the other side who planned it till this day

Announcement for Urzai Week 2023!
That's right, folks! Urzai Week is coming back for 2023! And with Tumblr's new polls, everyone can vote on the prompts for this year's Urzai Week!
Currently, Urzai Week 2023 is slated for sometime in December; the exact dates have not yet been decided. We're letting you guys do that, through a Tumblr poll! (Our hope is for winter break, so that everyone has plenty of time to write what they'd like to.) We'll also soon be posting polls for you to decide which prompts you want for Urzai Week 2023, including both single and paired prompts.
And, well, we don't know about you, but we're real excited over here! We can't wait to see what you all come up with!

Urzai headcanon - Distance - Part of Ursa's deal for Zuko's life is that she receives yearly updates and proof of life about her children. Ozai sends messenger hawks to a secret location and Ursa gets the letters then returns the hawk. When Ursa gets nothing for Zuko after his fourteenth birthday, she sets out to find him.

Friday, Dec 8: Dance To her none bending eyes the way her husband moved in his firebending practices was like a dance, the way he flowed and dodged while he trained against opponents who he easily outclassed every time was impressive and masterful. However while she watched Ozai she couldn't help but notice he tried even harder to impress her. When he invited her to watch his highly skilled moves she notice his change and cockiness and pride when she smiled and clapped;
Ursa the fire princess of the nation clapped as her husband bowed to her and dismissed his opponent.
“I loved watching you, my love.” Ursa complemented
She stood as she flowed around trying to mimic her husband moves.
“It is almost like your dancing.”
The prince moved to his wife as he caught her into his arms.
“It is based on our teachers the dragons. From legend the dragons danced as they breathed fire.”
He moved her into a traditional fire nation dance movement for a moment and back away with a smirk on his face.
“However we can dance tonight within the royal court.”

I love that you care so much about the adults of atla. The kids are very interesting of course and very compelling characters, but the adults, including Ozai, deserve more fandom attention. Out of curiosity, what got you onto the Urzai ship to begin with? I like that you portray them more closely to how they were originally meant to be in canon. The relationship might have become abusive, but there was definitely love there once, if I understand correctly. But please correct me if I’m misunderstanding them! It’s a ship that isn’t usually depicted with much nuance except for “Ozai is the devil himself” and “Ursa is a poor abused little angel”
Also, after seeing previous asks, I couldn’t help but ask you what made you consider shipping Ursa X Hakoda and Ozai X Kya too? I’ve always enjoyed crack ships and those are some very interesting ones. With Ursa X Hakoda, I get the sense that feelings would develop due to shared trauma and the love would follow later. But with Ozai X Kya, I can see their relationship starting as hot and steamy, especially if Kya is a consort or concubine, then they begin to bridge the power/distrust gap and develop romantic feelings as equals. Wanted to get your opinion because I think what makes crack ships so fun is that they’re open to a variety of interpretations.

The kids get enough attention by the fandom anyway, especially certain ones... *cough* Zuko *cough*.
The reason I usually get drawn to the adult characters in a show where it's mostly about kids, is, a) I'm an adult too, b) I usually start thirsting for one them before ending up getting genuinely interested in their character lol.
Why did I start shipping Urzai? I guess it was the weather. It was just the very first Ozai ship I was exposed to, luckily (or unluckily) without context from The Search for good plot.
I ended up stumbling over some really old-school fanfiction where their relationship was portrayed that they were closer to being equals. If not in rank, then at least in mind. I remember in my early days in the ATLA fandom that I was really attached to the very romantic idea of Ozai banishing Ursa to spare her from the execution she would've faced for high-treason. Azulon's murder didn't go smoothly and there'd been clear evidence for an outsider's influence, a trail that would've led sooner, rather than later, straight to Ursa.
I wish I could go back to that time... The fandom has poisoned me like lead over those last two years.
Anyway, for a long time, my utter hatred for the comics got me into an outright Urzai rage. I got the honour of being one of the mods for Urzai Week last year, too.
But I digress, again.
Ozai is my favourite character in the franchise, so it was just a matter of time before I started shipping him with more characters apart from Ursa, and I'm not sorry about either of these facts.
Kyazai? Ozkya? is a ship idea that came pretty late to me. It seems most of the time based on the concept of Kya ending up as Ozai's consort/concubine, and even that is rare to come by. I've seen an AU idea where Ozai takes both Hakoda and Kya as his consort (because he's greedy like that), and I'm still thinking about that. No matter, it's hard for me to really... judge the ship, if you get what I mean.
Hakursa is a ship I read and liked once in a fic that was more centered around Urzai's emotionally messy divorce in a modern AU than anything else. In most other settings, that is, "poor Ursa finally ESCAPED that demon called Ozai", my Urzai heart just bleeds too much for me to even attempt to really get into it.
Both wife-switcheroo ships are really just crack ships to me, and I like them on a superficial level. That being said, they're all also DILFs/MILFs, and in that way, that's enough for me to keep wanting to mix them together in couples/throuples.

One way in which I relate to this character - I do have to admit I relate to being sad/empty inside and lashing out at people :/
Thing that gives me second hand embarrassment about this character - Honestly, how fucking extra his Phoenix King shtick is, with the flags and fire and everything, and that ridiculous outfit. And you get to thinking he's been planning that for weeks.

Ozai couldn’t believe he let the children talk him and Ursa into this. Aang attending a Fire Nation school was a bad enough idea. Now this?! Ozai swore he was going to go grey early with as many stressed grey hairs the young Avatar has given him.
“This is such a terrible idea.”
“Agreed. But you know they were going to go behind our back and do it anyway.” Ursa said. “At least this way we can keep an eye on them.”
Ozai grunted. He already caught Azula and Toph trying to spike the punch with cactus juice they got from Agni knows where. But judging from the slightly dazed looks and wobbly swaying, they managed to sneak some in after all.
“Besides,” Ursa continued. “Look at how much fun they’re having.”
Ozai hummed. Aang was showing off some “traditional” Fire Nation dance moves to the students as Toph and Azula laughed from the side while passing back and forth a cup. Katara even managed to cox Zuko onto the dancefloor. Ozai smiled to himself. It has been a while since he’d seen them this happy especially after Ba Sing Se fell.
Ursa grinned. “Careful Ozai. I have you know dancing is illegal in the Fire Nation.”
Ozai stilled. “The music is livelier than I expected.”
“Of course. Wouldn’t want to ruin your pristine reputation.”
Ozai smirked and held out his hand. “Considered it ruined, my dear.”
Ursa accepted with an amused expression. “You know how to dance?”
Ozai led her to the dancefloor. “Can’t be much different from sparing.”
“Well then.” Ursa pulled him close. “I’ll lead.”
They circle each other in slow careful steps like the beginning of a duel before dissolving into sharp twists and turns; the natural synergy was similar to covering each other in battle. Aang led the others into some sort of circle dance around them, whooping and cheering.
The feeling was incredible. Exciting. Fun.
It was actually… fun.
“WHAT’S GOING ON HERE?!”
The music stopped abruptly. At the entrance of the cave was the headmaster and a couple of Fire Nation soldiers.
“Where is the student with the headband? Bring him to me now!”
“Ash.” Ozai and Ursa both swore under their breaths.
It was fine though. They’ve planned for this. While the students distracted the headmaster and soldiers with their own headbands, the rest of Team Avatar slipped through the escaped tunnels. They had to be quick. The soldiers won’t hesitate to arrest everyone here by force if needed. Ozai glanced around to make sure everyone got out. He suddenly had formed a deep pit in his stomach.
“Wait.” Ursa whispered alarmed, echoing Ozai’s thoughts. “Where’s-“
“What’s all this now?” A stern looking man with a bushy beard demanded.
The soldiers straighten up immediately. “Captain Wang Fire! We-“
“I don’t want to hear it! You two are needed at the Eastern Gate now. There are some unauthorized benders lurking by there.” He looked directly at them. “You all should leave. Now!”
“That’s where he’s been this whole-“
Ursa shushed him as she led him out. Ozai sighed.
They were all so grounded.

Just Leave A Comment Fest: December 2023 Recap

Most of the fics I commented on were short ones, because I didn't have much energy to read longer ones, but I still left decent comment on each one I read.
For December 26, First Fandom, I went into the Percy Jackson fandom and found two drabbles by rhye on Ao3, Underwater (a baby Percy's feelings about the pool, 137 words) and The Seed That Took (Poseidon being in love with Sally, 167 words). Both of these had no comments before I came along.
For December 27, Bookmark Day, I left a comment on Significants (3212 words) by apartment on Ao3. It's a JJK fic, looking at Geto and Gojo finding Toji's personal things in his worm after he dies.
For December 28, Old Favorites Day, I went into my bookmarks (again) and found one of the first bookmarks I ever made, Desperation (2992 words) by Sky_kiss on Ao3. It's a demon AU for AtLA, an Urzai fic where Ursa grew up among the nuns who make perfume from the first season and Ozai is an incubus she ends up summoning (mostly) by accident. (It is rated M, though, for sexual content.)
For December 29, Fandom Curiosity, I decided to check out the Revolutionary Girl Utena fandom, and commented on a short work called Thunder and Rain (1786 words) by Wallwalker on Ao3. The summary is "Miki lies in his coffin, dreaming of a prince." and the author's notes describe it as an attempt at surrealism.
For December 30, I recced Corrie Red (24294 words) by musicmillenia on Ao3 here. (This one also fit Old Favorites, but I decided I wanted it under Rec A Fic so that I hit every theme.) It's an Eldritch!Corries fic for Star Wars, and it's part of a longer series. It's also a pretty popular fic, but still.
And the bonus comment: I left it before the fest started, on an Revolutionary Girl Utena AMV: BRUTUS | UTENA AMV by qwfwq on YouTube. I put this one under the Fandom Curiosity theme because I am, indeed, curious about RGU.
