Summary: Philip is trans, Alexander isn’t too happy.

“Dad? Are you busy?” Philip sighed into his father’s office. Alex, stressing out, replied back to his son. “Yes, Philip?” Philipa could see her father’s roots turning grey. Clearly from stress, she’s never seen a man work harder. She wasn’t quite sure how her dad would react to his son actually being his daughter.

“I have something important to say.” Alex nodded, “sure, i’m not too busy right now,” Alex turned in his chair. “whats goin’ on in that mind of yours?” Alex didn’t know that his wife, Eliza was patiently waiting for them both outside the door.

Eliza knew that Philipa is transgender, and she loves her daughter all the same. Eliza however, wasn’t too sure of how Alex reacts to this stuff, as he is a man of traditions, and she’s pretty positive the term ‘transgender’ isn’t too good in his vocabulary.

“Dad, i’m..” Philipa sighed, looking down. “i’m a girl.” Alex raised an eyebrow. “What are you telling me Philip?” Eliza could basically hear Philipa’s heart crack in half. Eliza whispered to herself, ‘c’mon alex, don’t do what i think you’re about to do.’

“Its just that.. my mind and body don’t match! To make it simple.” Philipa sounded so overjoyed to be coming out to her dad. Alex on the other hand? not so joyous. “You want me to call you a name that you just.. picked? Me and your mother gave you your name for a reason. You are named after your grandfather. Philip Schuyler,” Alex took a sip of his water. “Is this some prank? Are you and your mother up to something?” He sounded legitimately concerned. Not because his daughter just came out as trans, but because he thought it was a joke.

“Alexander. Do you know how much you just hurt her? Please, support her.” Eliza spouted out at her husband. By this time, Philipa left the room. Well, she stood outside the door, eavesdropping on her mom and dad. Her heart broke as she heard what her parents were saying.

“What about him Eliza? I raised a SON. Not a daughter. I need my son to carry on my legacy and so far he’s been doing just FINE—“ Alex dragged on.

“Alexander,” Her voice was stern, strong. “Your daughter is JUST as strong as anyone else. Please, Alex. Just try to understand her. I know.. I know it’s new to you. It was new to me too—“ Eliza felt hot tears welling in her eyes.

“Elizabeth Schuyler Hamilton, I raised a SON. For the past 18 years, I’ve wanted to teach him things i was never taught as a kid.” Eliza stopped him. “And you can still do that! We can give her the same life we’ve been giving her! It won’t be.. too different!” Alex had a stiff look on his face. “No. We can’t, and we fucking won’t. Because I won’t have that in our home.”

Philipa, still outside of the door, was sitting down, her legs in her chest. She let out small sobs, trying not to alarm her parents. She speedily and shakily walked to her bedroom, and packed some clothes she would need.

She knew where to go. Theo’s home. The Burr house was always accepting, considering Mr. Aaron accepting Theo as pansexual. She dragged her bag full of clothes along the street, seeing the Burr residence in the distance.

Sooner than she thought, she knocked on the door. “Anyone home?..” Philipa heard Mrs. Burr call out “Aaron, hon can you get the door?” Seconds later, Philipa was looking at a very confused Aaron. Theo was right on the side of him, grabbing onto his arm.

Aaron had noticed how frigid it was outside, so he immediately let the girl in. “Philip, what’re you doing out so late? Its freezing outside! Get in here!” Philipa shivered as she walked in the door, she probably should’ve worn a coat.

Aaron saw Philipa shivering, her teeth chattering. “Do you want a blanket?” Philipa nodded, seeing Theo concerned, still attached to her father. “When i get back, you’re telling me why you’re out here with a bag.” Burr stated.

Philipa placed her bag down by the couch she was sitting on, then cuddled up against the arm of the seat. Theo stayed behind while Burr walked off to get a blanket, so Theo sat next to her.

“Hello Philip. Why were you out so late? Aren’t your parents worried about you?” Theo asked her. Philipa shook her head, “They hadn’t known that i headed out. Its a.. long story.” Theo nodded. “I’ve got time.” Philipa and Theo have been childhood friends, considering that the two kids were born around the same time with their parents as friends, they’re bound to be at least acquaintances.

“Listen, Theo, you’re pansexual right?” The girl nodded. “Yes i am, why’re you asking? Something up?” Philipa nodded.

“You know of the term transgender then, don’t you?” Philipa’s hands were shaky.

“I do, is this about you being trans? I figured you were for a while. I was going to ask you about it tomorrow, but it seems that doesn’t have to happen?” Theo looked over to the kitchen, where her mother seemed to be eavesdropping on the two.

“Is there something else that you’d rather be called instead of Philip?” Theo questioned. Philipa nodded, “Yes, if you don’t mind. I’d like to go by Philipa now, if that’s alright.” Theo nodded.

“Of course, Philipa. If you’re happy—“ Theo had gotten cut off because Burr walked in with a thick blanket and 3 cups of tea. “Why don’t we all have a chat, hm?” Burr asked.

“So, Philipa? Is it? Why did you have to leave your house at,” he checked his watch. “11pm? Did Alex tell you something? You are his child! and if he did anything to you i’ll bea—“ Philipa stopped him.

“Please, Mr. Burr that won’t be necessary. He.. he’s probably just confused.. is all. I was listening to my parents talk and.. my father said he wouldn’t have ‘that’ in his home, so i presumed he wanted me gone. I won’t be able to go back there for a while, unless my mother can persuade him otherwise. Would you be as kind as to allow me to stay here until this blows over?” Philipa curled under the blanket and sipped on her tea, while she watched Burr’s face change from concerned to angry.

“Of course you can stay here dear! Do you have enough clothes for however long you plan on staying?” Theodosia asked. Philipa was already feeling better, Theo’s home was a nice place to be when she was stressed or needed a place to stay.

“I think i do, i just packed what i think i’ll need.”

Theo immediately got a smug look on her face. “Theo? what are you thinking?”

She lead Philipa up to her bedroom, Theo opening the door, introducing Philipa to tens of possibly hundreds of nightgowns and dresses Hercules Mulligan has made for her in the past. “These are my old dresses that the Mulligans made for me. They don’t.. fit me anymore. Maybe you’d like to try a few?”

Philipa turned a bright red, then nodded. Theo stepped out of the room, allowing Philipa to try on whatever she’d like.

What caught Philipa’s eyes first was this beautiful powder blue dress with a white section going down the chest. A gorgeous navy blue was sectioned off at the bottom of the dress. It had a faintly feathered out collar, along with long sleeves. Philipa took the dress off of the hanger, and slipped it on. She turned around to find a body-length mirror starring at her. She finally felt.. like herself. She picked up the sides of the dress, and dropped them back.

She let her hair out of the tight ponytail it was in, and let it drape around her face, covering her ears. “Theo? Come in please!” Theo walked in, gasping at the sight in front of her. Her best friend, was standing in front of her in her first dress from her very first Winter’s Ball.

“Does.. Do i look bad?” Philipa was worried, but then again.. not so worried. She felt okay. “Of course not. You look like you’re ready for a ball— and also ready to steal everyone’s man.”

They both broke out into laughter, it was the closest Philipa and Theo have been in a long time.

“Actually, i’m ready to steal everybody’s man. and woman.” Philipa sighed out. Theo raised her eyebrows. “Really now?” Burr and Theodosia watched as the two girls chuckled and made jokes.

Burr and Theodosia walked back downstairs. “Should i go and tell Alexander and Eliza that.. Philipa is here?” Theodosia asked. Burr shook his head, it was already getting late. If Alexander really wanted his daughter gone— he could wait. Eliza was probably worried sick though. The couple headed to bed, telling the two girls that it was getting quite late.

“Alright you two, it’s time for bed. Goodnight Theo, Philipa.” They both waved and said goodnight. Theo gave Philipa one of her old nightgowns, then they went to bed. Theo has 2 beds in her room, so they each got a bed to themselves.

Philipa felt secure and happy. For now.

Rachel (Trans Philip Hamilton)

(A/N: I am trans, but I’m FTM, not MTF, and I haven’t really come out, so I don’t know how that situation works, so if I got this wrong feel free to correct me and if I offended anyone please yell at me.

A ten year old Philip was standing in front of his mother’s mirror, holding a tube of lipstick and smearing it on his mouth messily. Next, he uncapped the mascara and put it under his lashes, blinking over it like he had seen his mother do. The effect left little pinpricks of black on the skin of his eyelids and he ended up getting some of the mascara in his eyes. The sting of it made tears well up, but he tilted her face up and blinked at the ceiling rapidly, not wanting to mess up his makeup.

Next, he grabbed one of the little pencils on the counter and looked at it curiously. Was he supposed to draw on the bottom lid or the top one? Maybe both? He tried to drag the tip of the pencil over his bottom eyelid and almost immediately poked himself in the eye. Hissing in pain, the tip of the pencil dragging against his cheek as he yanked it down, he slapped one hand over her eye and whimpered pitifully. How does his momma do this every morning?

Deciding to give up on the makeup for now, he pulled out the last addition to his new look from under the bathroom counter. It was a dress, one of Angie’s, - a dress that she almost never wore, because Angie hated dresses with a burning passion and only ever wore them on special occasions - light yellow and ruffled. It had little yellow roses printed on it.

He pulled off the clothes he had been wearing - shorts and a dinosaur t-shirt - and unzipped the back of the dress, stepping into it and attempting to rezip the back before giving up entirely. He looked at herself in the mirror.

He looked…. Silly. There was too much lipstick, and it tasted icky. Some of it was even on the tip of his nose! There was a streak of dark brown eyeliner running down his cheek, and the mascara was messy and made his lashes stick together. In short, he thought he looked like a circus clown.

The dress was too small for him. His shoulders were just a little too broad for the straps, and the flounce was far too short. He felt like crying.

The bathroom door opened at that moment, and now he really was crying, a single tear slipping down his cheek, because his momma was standing in the doorway, staring at him, in all his makeup smeared glory.

Eliza merely sighed, grabbing a moist towelette from its container on a shelf, wiping the makeup off Philip’s face gently.

Philip stared at the floor, shame-faced, his ears burning and tears now sliding down his cheeks heavily. It was only when Philip’s shoulders started shaking with repressed sobs that Eliza really noticed her child was crying

“Oh, honey, what’s the matter?” Eliza cooed, tilting Philip’s face up with a finger under her chin.

“I-I’m sorry!” he wailed. “I’m sorry, I s-shoul-shouldn’t’ve s-stole Angie’s dress or u-used your makeup, I’m so sorry, M-Momma!”

“Pip, baby, don’t cry,” Eliza said, pulling Philip into a hug. Philip sunk into the embrace, crying into her shoulder, a wet patch forming on the shoulder of Eliza’s light blue t-shirt. Eliza only pulled away from the hug when she was sure Philip had stopped crying.

“I think we need to talk about this, baby,” Eliza said. Philip nodded, not trusting himself to speak at the moment. Eliza sat Philip on the toilet seat, Eliza sitting on the edge of the bathtub that was just across from it.

“Why’d you get into my makeup, honey?” Eliza asked gently. Philip shrugged helplessly. “You don’t know?” Philip shrugged again. After a small stretch of silence, Philip finally said,

“I like the makeup. And the dresses. And I wanted to wear the makeup and the dresses, but I knew that you wouldn’t buy me some, so I borrowed one of Angie’s-”

“Pip, all you had to do was ask, and I would’ve gotten you a dress,” Eliza said. “There’s nothing to be ashamed of for wanting to wear girls’ clothing. Heck, your Uncle Laffy wears skirts more often than not, and we never say anything!” Philip nods. His mother had a point.

“It isn’t just the dresses,” Philip admitted quietly, voice wavering. “I think there’s something wrong with me.”

“And what might this be?” Eliza asked.

“I don’t… I guess I don’t feel like a boy? I mean...” Eliza gestured for him to go on. “I don’t like being a boy. I don’t like being called ‘son’ or being called a boy, or ‘he’, or my name- and I know that it’s not normal, people talk about how weird it is at my school all the time, but I just can’t help it-” Eliza shushed him, smiling at Philip warmly.

“It’s alright, honey, I think I understand,” Eliza said.

“You do?” Philip cautioned, voice small. Eliza nodded.

“I do,” she said, and Philip felt like crying all over again. “I want to explain all of this to you, okay?”

“Okay.”

And so Philip learned what the word ‘transgender’ meant, and how it applied to her. She learned that she would be considered ‘mtf’, and that, no matter what her DNA said, if she was more comfortable as a girl she would be a girl, and that her Momma and Pops would do everything in their power to help her transition.

By the time Eliza was done with her explanation, and done with answering all of Philip’s questions, it was already dark out.

“I think it’s time for all my little monkeys to be in bed,” Eliza said, standing from her perch on the side of the bathtub. Philip was turning towards the door to go to bed herself when Eliza suddenly said, “Wait! You said you didn’t like being called your name?” Philip nodded hesitantly. “Do you want us to call you something else?” Philip thought for a moment.

“I don’t know yet. Can you just call me Pip for now, until I figure it out? Not Philip?”

“Of course, honey,” Eliza said, pressing a kiss to Pip’s curly head. “I should go help your younger siblings get ready for bed. Good night, Pip.”

“Good night, Momma,” Pip said, smiling and leaving the bathroom.

A few days later, at the store with her mother and her father - all of his many, many siblings were being watched by Uncle Laffy and Uncle Herc, God bless their souls -, Pip finally settled on a name. She didn’t know why she hadn’t considered it before.

“Hey, Pops?” she said. Her father was looking at one of the many dresses on the racks, an utterly lost expression on his face.

“Yes, Pip?” Alexander said, looking grateful to be turning away from the rack of clothing.

“I like Rachel,” she said.

“Eh?” Alexander said, looking even more confused.

“My name? I think I wanna go by Rachel. Rachel Catherine. After Gran and your momma.” Rachel said resolutely. Alexander smiled at his daughter wetly.

“It’s a beautiful name,” he said. “For a beautiful little girl.” Rachel smiled, and Alexander scooped his small daughter into his arms, spinning her around, Rachel giggling madly all the while. Finally, Alexander set Rachel back on the ground, wiping his eyes with the back of his hand after doing so.

“I love you, Rachel,” Alexander said.

“I love you too, Pops,” Rachel replied, eyes stinging slightly. Eliza finally wandered back towards them, at least ten dresses in Rachel’s size in the cart.

“What’s with all the waterworks?” Eliza asked teasingly.

“My dearest Betsey,” Alexander said seriously. “Allow me to introduce you to - Rachel Catherine Hamilton!”

And then they were all crying.

Yeah , Rachel thought, grinning as her parents hugged her tightly. Everything’s gonna be okay.

I’m wanting to read more about Greek mythology. What books do you recommend?

hello! hmmm, that's a good question! there's loads of places you can start!

you could start with The Classics™, like The Iliad and The Odyssey by Homer, and if you find the writing style of it a little tricky then I recommend the Oxford Children's Classics version (trans. Barbara Picard)! Please, don't be put off by the word 'children' in the title, it's basically just The Iliad and The Odyssey written in a more accessible, prose-kinda' style!

If you're interested in the gods and maybe starting from 'the beginning', if you will, then books like Theogony by Hesiod are pretty good, this discusses the origins of the gods and goddesses of Ancient Greece.

The Homeric Hymns are also pretty good if you wanna' focus more on the gods and that kinda' stuff!

If the Epic Cycle is more your vibe and you wanna' delve more into the likes of Agamemnon, Odysseus, Achilles etc. the I wrote a list here that talks about those books (sorry for being lazy and not retyping it all out SDFGHJK). But I will add on maybe the comic series Age of Bronze by Eric Shanower, this is a super accessible comic that tells the story of the Trojan War from it's conception to the events of The Iliad (it it still ongoing, but it's just a different way of reading about these things. I am a HUGE Age of Bronze fan tBH DFGH) [If Tragedy is your vibe, as opposed to like 'the epics', then the stories of Agamemnon and Oedipus are good examples of that!]

But, I don't think there's anything wrong with looking into those general 'Greek Myth' collection books, I think they're great starting points for finding maybe particular myths or characters that you really like or wanna' find out more about - especially when you're first getting into this stuff! Some examples of these books are:

Introduction to Mythology by Lewis Spence

Classical Mythology by A. R. Hope Moncrieff

Mythology by Edith Hamilton

The Greek Myths by Robin Waterfield

The Penguin Book of Classical Myths by Jenny March

The Greek and Roman Myths by Philip Matyszak

Greek Mythology by David Stuttard

Roman Mythology by David Stuttard

The Routledge Handbook of Greek Mythology by Robin Hard

The Greek Myths by Robert Graves

Tales of The Greek Heroes by Roger Lancelyn Green

Mythos, Heroes and Troy by Stephen Fry

... and so many more! Like I said, I don't think you can go wrong with these when you're just starting out? We all have to start somewhere! And when you find your niche or your interest and do more research, then the more specific and deep-dive kinda' stuff that you will find! These are just some I can remember off the top of my head!

A more kind of 'ancient' source for one of these mythology collections is The Library of Greek Mythology by Apollodorus. A source that is Roman, but runs in a similar kinda' vein is Metamorphoses by Ovid.

The Penguin Reference Dictionary of Classical Mythology is also pretty helpful! This is exactly what it says on the tin and basically just lists a lot of characters from these myths and gives a little summary about them, pretty handy sometimes!

Also, don't underestimate maybe looking into more Roman sources, I mean obviously be aware that they are Roman and not Greek, but the works of Seneca are really good! And obviously there's The Aeneid by Virgil!

I haven't listed any Historical Fiction in this list, because that's a controversial slope that I am Simply Not stepping on, but hey! They're accessible and get people into the Classics, so I'm certainly not against it! If they're the kinda' books that set you on the path of Greek Mythology than that's okay too! Never underestimate a good Historical Fiction!

Review: This is so so sweet! I love the way this Peter's reaction was described, and the way Pepper treated him with such kind gentleness, and how sweet Tony was after he found out what was going on. Just too freaking sweet and nice

Review: This story was great! The tension of Peter beginning to fall asleep and Tony panicking and doing his best to try and keep Peter warm was perfect, and I love how Rhodey was right there for Tony, waiting for him to wake up. So sweet <3

Summary: A fight with a magic-wielding foe leaves Peter shrunken and vulnerable. Luckily, Tony is there to take care of him until the spell wears off.

Review: AAAAAAAAA this story had so much emotion??? It was so cool to see Tony's reaction to certain parts of the musical in relation to Peter, especially the part where Philip died. I hadn't even thought of how Tony would react to that tbh, so it was almost a surprise, but it made perfect sense for Tony to react rather strongly to it compared to other parts. Loved this fic, 10/10

Summary: Not sure if this has been done before? But would you consider a prompt where Peter gets kidnapped but escapes easily, his kidnappers not even realizing that he's gone. So Peter gets home and is hanging out with Tony and then Tony gets a ransom call from the kidnappers but Tony just stares at Peter who just shrugs like its no big deal.

Review: HAHA this fic was hilarious, I loved Peter's complete nonchalance, and I love how Tony was still worried about him even though Peter was right there and perfectly fine lol

That Would Be Enough by @superherotiger (Pt. 3 of Estranged Irondad AU, Pt. 1 & 2 linked ^^^)

Summary: Nicknames and Tony Stark seemed to come hand in hand.

With a single glance at someone he could conjure up a title that would brand them for years to come, much to the amusement and frustration of his close friends like Rhodey, Pepper and Happy. Sometimes the names were designed to annoy -the clench of Steve Roger’s jaw when he’d first called him Capsicle had been entertaining to say the least-, but most often they were affectionate. Playful. Reserved for those Tony cared for the most.

And his son Peter was no exception.

When Your Colour Has Faded (We Will Paint It Back) by @littlemissagrafina (Pt. 3 of Discord Challenges)

Summary: "Peter, wha-" May started to ask before Peter cut her off, words suddenly spilling over where a moment ago there had been none.

"I don't have colour anymore. I'm dull, faded, and I don't know how to get myself back." Peter's voice was small, the almost numb resignation in it striking May and Tony to their cores.

"I'm not who I used to be. I'm a broken pallet with dried up, cracking paint where I used to be bright, and colourful and I don't know what to do. I don't- I don't know how to get me back." The teenager's voice cracked on the last few words, desperation and despair shining in his eyes.

Review: This fic was really sad but really nice at the same time. I like that both Peter and his parental figures noticed that something was wrong, I feel like it's usually one or the other in most fics, and I like that Peter asked for help when it was starting to get too bad. We definitely need more stories about characters getting help for their depression instead of suffering through it :']

Here are some basic things to know about requesting a matchup!

Unless otherwise specified for a certain fandom, a request yields one romantic pairing AND one friendship pairing as well as information on why I think you work well with the individuals I choose. Bruises and New Friends

Things were getting difficult in the Hamilton household.

Rachel had experienced violence at her school - from both the students and the teachers. Kids hitting her on the school bus, death threats left by older students in her cubby, rude, scathing comments made by her teachers…

She came home from school every day with fresh bruises, blossoming purple against her freckled skin, and tears stinging her eyes.

But, she told no one. This was her burden to deal with and hers alone. This, in her ten-year-old mind, was just the price she’d have to pay to feel comfortable in her own skin.

She started wearing long sleeved sweaters to hide the injuries on her arms, as well as leggings. She put on a smile for her family so that they had no reason to worry for her. She played them all.

School was Hell. But, she was happy enough now. She got to grow out her hair, just like Angie, and wear the dresses and the skirts and the leggings. Her hair, now, was even long enough to pull back into a small ponytail.

Her parents found out what was happening at school when Rachel came home with the ponytail sheared off, hair uneven and choppy.

Alexander had raised Hell. Had sent email after email to the school board, had publicly dragged the school system’s name, had even threatened to sue. Nothing much changed, other than the fact that the teacher’s hurtful comments mellowed down into heated glares.

Eliza and Alexander pulled Rachel, and the other children, out of school when their oldest daughter came home with a bloody nose.

They’d moved to New York. They’d had to drag John and AJ, kicking and screaming. Angie had cried. Little William had wailed. None of her siblings talked to her on their way to their new home.

While the adults unpacked everything, the children were sent off to their new school - a private elementary school that was probably more expensive than necessary but, as her father had stated, completely worth it.

On her first day, when Rachel had corrected the teacher calling attendance when she’d called her ‘Philip’, the teacher had merely nodded and continued on, as if it was nothing. The students hadn’t even batted an eyelash, perhaps too young to know what it meant that her birth name was a boy’s name, perhaps not caring.

It was only half way through the school year when things started stirring up again.

The school was in a small, very liberal-minded area. Not many people really cared if she was trans or not - and if anyone did care, they hadn’t come up to her yet.

But, of course, nothing good could ever last.

Rachel wasn’t even sure how it had happened. Just that, one moment, she was walking down the hallway and, the next moment, she was being dragged off by two older students. She had kicked and yelled for help. Had bitten them and cried and had used every swear word in her vocabulary - most of which she had learned from her father.

It didn’t stop them. They had still taken her to the gym’s locker room. Had still locked her in one of the ugly, mustard coloured lockers.

It smelled like sweat and old socks and it made Rachel gag.

She didn’t know how long she had been trapped in that locker. Maybe only five minutes. Maybe as long as five years.

When the door to the locker swung open and she fell out onto the cold locker room floor, she felt like sobbing in relief. After a moment, she looked up at who had saved her.

It was a boy. Perhaps a little shorter than herself. His skin was dark while his hair, curly and messy, was a light brown, like cinnamon. His face was long and angular, still soft with baby fat, and his shoulders were rather narrow. He looked slightly familiar.

The boy helped her up and she was, indeed, an inch or so taller than him.

“Are you alright?” the boy asked, voice slightly frightened. It was only then she noticed how anxious he looked. She wiped at her eyes.

“Yeah,” she said. “I’m okay.” She stuck out her hand. “My name’s Rachel Hamilton.”

He took it reluctantly.

“Theo Burr,” he said. “Short for Theodore.”

“Nice to meet ya, Theo,” Rachel said, smiling happily now that she wasn’t trapped in a locker.

“If only it could’ve been under better circumstances,” Theo said dryly. Theo glanced at the plain black digital watch strapped to his wrist. “I’m gonna be late for algebra...”

“Wait, you’re in algebra-”

“I have to go, I’m afraid. I’m going to miss the bus to the high school...” Rachel nodded, still reeling from the fact that one of her ten year old classmates was in algebra.

“Uh, okay. It really was nice meeting you,” Rachel said. Theo smiled awkwardly.

“Yeah… um, you too.”

“See you around?” Rachel said hopefully. It would be nice to have a friend here, after all.

“Oh, yeah, definitely. I take my morning classes here, and I’m in your reading class, so...”

“Oh, right, right.” Rachel crossed her arms, rocking back and forth on her heels.

“Well. Uh, bye then,” Theo said, waving and turning around to leave the locker room. Rachel grinned.

Yeah. She was definitely going to be friends with Theo Burr.

Theodosia looked at herself in the mirror. Her body was adorned in a pair of dress slacks and a royal blue dress shirt and a white bow tie. She sighed. It wasn’t what she wanted to wear to Philip’s birthday. Not even close. But what else could she do? He didn’t know yet.

A knock tapped on the dressing room door. “Theo, baby?” Eliza was outside. She had taken Theodosia shopping while Philip was out with Alexander and Aaron, doing gross boy stuff. Theo had been invited but luckily, Eliza had stepped in and brought up the fact that Theo had mentioned needing new dress clothes.

Theo opened the door and peeked out, shielding her body from Eliza’s gaze. “Yeah?”

“I’ve got something I want you to try on.” She reached behind her back and held out a blue dress.

Theo stepped out from behind the door and slowly reached for the dress. “For me? Can I really try it on?”

“Of course, sweetheart! I didn’t pick it out for me.” Eliza grinned as the dress was whisked from her hands and the dressing room door snapped shut. Eliza heard fast shuffling from behind the door and a gasp pushed through.

“Wow,” Theo breathed. She pushed open the door excitedly. “Look at me, Aunt ‘Liza!” She twirled in circles, the skirt floating around her. She laughed as the skirt flowed against her legs. “Look at me!” Her laughter tinkled through the air and her dark eyes were smiling. Her hair brushed against her shoulders as she whipped around to stare into a mirror.

The dress was the same bright blue as the dress shirt had been, a gorgeous contrast to her light caramel skin. Theo’s hands smoothed the skirt around her legs, a smile stretching her cheeks, one that hadn’t waned since she put the soft fabric on.

“You look gorgeous, Theodosia. Absolutely gorgeous.”

“Thank you Aunt ‘Liza. Can we get it? Oh please, can we?” Theo begged.

“Of course baby doll. We’ll get both outfits, okay? That way if you decide to wear the pants instead, we have them. Do you want any underwear? We can go look at bras and panties.”

Somehow, Theodosia’s smile brightened. “Can we Aunt ‘Liza?” She began bouncing on her toes.

“Of course! What kind of lady doesn’t have cute underwear?” She asked winking.

“Did you know that I’ve started taking hormone pills? I started right after I told daddy, after momma…died.” It had been almost three months since she had died. “Do you think if I take off my tank top anyone will notice?”

Eliza laughed. “I guess we’ll wait and see baby. Go get out of that dress, toss both outfits in the cart, and we’ll see what we can accessorize with.”

Theo pushed into the dressing room, not wanting to take the dress off, but filled with giddiness at the prospect of finally going clothes shopping- for girl’s clothing. She was ready.

Theo passed Philip sitting on her living room couch and ran the shopping bags upstairs, hiding them in the closet. She could hear Philip moving up the stairs behind her and she latched the closet door just before Philip walked in, flopping himself on the bed.

“So whatdja get? Lemme see.”

“No!” She screeched, causing Philip to jerk back in surprise. “No,” she tried, laughing it off. “It’s a surprise for tomorrow. You’ll have to wait until your party.”

She stepped to the bed and sat down, immediately pulled into Philip’s body, his lips finding hers. “You always taste so sweet,” he murmured. “I love it.” Another soft kiss. “I love you.”

“I love you Pip. Are you excited for tomorrow?” She fell on the bed beside him, snuggling into his chest as his arms wrapped around her.

“Of course. It’ll be your name that adorns my chest for the rest of my life. Why wouldn’t I be excited about that?” He moved his body so he was hovering above Theo, his elbows braced to support his weight framing either side of her body. His knees pushed between her legs and he leaned down to kiss her.

Theo wrapped her arms around Philip’s neck. “Pip, what if-” she paused. “What if it’s not?” Or worse, she thought. What if it says Theodore?

“It’ll be you Theo, it’s always been you. It’ll always be you.” He pressed a kiss to the hollow of Theo’s neck, making her shudder as he continued kissing up her neck. “Let’s go sit on your chair,” he whispered against her ear, referring to the giant beanbag chair against the wall.

Theo nodded slightly and Philip pushed himself up and moved swiftly across the room, dropping himself on the mint green vinyl. Theo swayed over, her legs falling to either side of Philip’s lap, straddling him.

His hands fell to her hips, her body was starting to round out after having been on testosterone blocks and estrogen pills for almost three months. “You’ve been putting on weight,” he murmured. “I like it.”

Theodosia sighed in relief. She was relieved he hadn’t put two and two together. It was surprising that he hadn’t figured anything out, actually. She shook her head slightly, glad that he had noticed her changing body. “You like that?” she said softly as she rest her forehead against Philip’s.

“I do,” he countered. “I like it very much. There’s more of you to love.” He nuzzled his head into her chest, just above her budding breasts, flattened by the tight tank top beneath her t-shirt. “You look good. Healthy,” he said. “And you’re glowing. You’re gorgeous.” Theo blushed and angled Philip’s face to hers so she could kiss him.

The kissing soon got heated and Philip’s shirt was being yanked off over his head. Theo just loved to feel the smooth ridges of his chest. It was obvious that he worked out. The muscles were strong beneath his skin and Theo roamed her hands over the tight sinew of his body.

Their teeth clashed together excitedly and Theo pulled back laughing, pulling Philip backward so he was above her on the floor. “I love you Pip.”

“I love you too Theo. I love you so much.” His mouth pressed against her lips again and his hips bucked against hers.

“Philip!” She admonished, the stern reprimand coming out as more of a moan.

“Problem?” There was a smug grin on his face as he looked down at her and rolled his hips once more.

“You’re too cocky for your own good,” she mumbled to herself before catching him off guard and pushing him off her. She straddled him and sat on his waist line, her hands pinning his wrists to the floor. She giggled and Philip’s eyes grew wide.

“Can you not giggle like that again?” It was Theo’s turn to grow wide eyed. Had it been too feminine…? “That went straight to my dick. God that was hot.”

Theo laughed and launched herself off Philip, falling back into the beanbag chair once more. “You’re disgusting,” she teased.

He held his hands up in surrender. “Hey, it’s your fault. You did it to me. I can’t help it that you turn me on.”

Theo blushed at his words and glanced at the alarm clock on her dresser. “It’s almost bedtime, huh?” She stood up and grabbed her pajamas and disappeared into the bathroom.

“Hey Thee? How come you don’t change yourself out here with me anymore?” She could hear him wrestling with his jeans. He always just slept in boxers.

“Uh,” she stuttered. “I’m just self conscious of my body, I guess.” It wasn’t a complete lie. She pulled her pj shirt on over her head and shucked her pants to the floor, stepping out of them and tossing them in the hamper. The door swung open behind her and Philip stood in the doorway, causing her to scream. “Philip, get out!”

He stepped in and pulled her into his arms, his hands wandering down her back to cup her ass. “Self conscious baby? You’ve got nothing to be self conscious about. You’re gorgeous.” He squeezed Theo’s ass that was cupped in his hands and Theo jumped closer, her body pressing against Philip. “Do you feel what you do to me, Theo? You’ve had this effect on me for years, and you gaining a little bit of weight isn’t gonna turn me away. Sorry baby, but you’re stuck with me.”

“Can we just go to bed Pip? It’s been a long day.”

“Of course. Wrap your legs around my waist.” Theo looked at the plaid pajama pants in her hands. “You don’t need pants baby. You always slept in just a t-shirt before. Just come sleep with me,” he whined. Theo tossed the pants to the floor and jumped up, wrapping her legs around his waist. “You trust me, don’t you?”

“I do.”

“Do you trust me to love you forever and always?”

Theo paused. The silence was deafening to Philip’s ears. “I do,” she whispered. They slept wrapped up in each other’s arms all night long.

Theo woke up the next morning and Philip was sitting on the beanbag against the wall, sleeping with his chin tucked to his chest. She slipped out of bed and straddled her sleeping boyfriend. “Baby, wake up,” she whispered sweetly, kissing his neck. “Happy birthday, Pip, my love.”

His eyes fluttered open sleepily. “Thanks babe,” he whispered, kissing her lips.

“Pip, why’re you not in the bed?” Theo murmured, burying her face in the crook of his neck.

The memory of Philip sitting up in bed, tracing the faint name that appeared on his body. He had gotten up, nearly tripping to get to the bathroom to see it. He wasn’t sure if he had felt more of a surprise or a sickened twist in his gut when it didn’t say Theodore.

It was Theodosia.

He slipped back into her room, quickly finding a shirt and pulling it on, too tired to mull over why he had his best friend’s mom’s name tattooed on his chest.

Instead of falling back into bed to cuddle with her, he sat on the beanbag chair, rubbing his eyes. He tried to rationalize the situation, maybe this was a dream? Had he imagined it?

Pip felt the edges of his eyes prickling with tears. “You sprawled out on the bed when I got cold and got up to put my shirt on. I didn’t want to move you.”

Theo sat up, tugging at his shirt, trying to hide her anxiety. “Is it there…?” She mumbled. Pip quickly pulled the neck of the shirt up a bit, shaking his head.

“Um, I don’t want you to see it yet,” He said. “It’s like, bad luck. You gotta wait.”

“Pip, you’ve never been superstitious, lemme see it,” Theo insisted.

“No, Theo, please-” But Philip couldn’t keep her from tugging at the shirt. He panicked, shoving away her hands skittishly.

“Pip….” Theo protested, but stopped trying once she saw how hard he was trying to keep it hidden.

“I just wanna show everyone all at once, okay baby?”

Theo nodded slowly, looking away from him. “Yeah. Yeah, okay,” she trailed off, dejectedly.

Pip cupped her chin. “Hey, look at me,” He whispered. Once he got her attention, he kissed her for a moment before barely breaking away, pressing his forehead against hers.

“Just wait, okay? I love you, it’s nothing to be worried about.” He tried to reassure her.

“Okay,” she whispered. “You always did like the spotlight.” She smiled, but it was a sad, forced smile. “I’ve got nothing to worry about.”

Philip couldn’t shake the hollow feeling of dread that settled in his chest at her words.

“Happy birthday Philip!” Eliza wrapped her arms around him tightly, smiling. Alexander squeezed his shoulder, also sporting a wide grin.

“How’s it feel to be 16, Pip?” He asked.

Pip shrugged. “I feel the same, I guess.” He said, but grinned back in a joking manner. No one seemed to catch his antsiness, especially since he could feel the tension between him and theo.

Within the next ten minutes, six different people asked him how he felt. “Not much different than fifteen,” he mouthed off. It had become his standard answer.

“You ready for cake and ice cream, Pippy Longstockings?” John Laurens sauntered over and tossed his arm over Pip’s shoulders.

“Uncle John, Theo braided my hair once. We were six. Can’t you stop calling me that? It’s been ten years.”

“Hmm,” John mused. “Don’t think so, Pippy. Now let’s go get some cake.”

Overall, the party was actually pretty fun. It wasn’t till it had come time to open presents that Philip began to shift nervously in his seat. He was surprised no one had asked him about the tattoo yet, but he knew it was coming soon.

“Hey, Philip,” Alexander appeared in the doorway, having disappeared a few minutes ago. Philip turned to look at him, and he held something up in his hands.

“Dad…?”

Alexander tossed something at him, and Pip caught it. It was a set of keys.

“Your mom and I weren’t sure if we could pull it off, but… we did and we got you a car.”

Pip jumped off the couch, running over to his father. “Are you serious!?” He ran out the door and launched himself toward the driveway, only to get an armload of snow shoved down the back of his shirt. “Holy fuck all!” John and Gilbert were laughing so hard they were crying as Philip jumped around, trying to get the icy snow out from his shirt. “Fuck!” He pushed past the throngs of people standing in the doorway laughing.

“C’mon, Philip. Let us all see the tattoo! Take your shirt off!”

That’s what this was about.

He rushed into the living room and stripped off his shirt, his body red from the sudden shock of the ice pellets that they called snow. He jumped around, shaking off the snow and turned around to see Theo, dressed up in her navy dress shirt and dress slacks, staring at his chest

“Theo, it’s not-” he stammered. “I don’t-”

Theo ran out of the room, tears streaming down her face as she pounded up the stairs to Philip’s room and locked the door behind her.

“Fuck you people!” Philip yelled as he ran up the stairs. “Fuck all of you!” He began pounding on his bedroom door. “Theo, please. I’ll always love you. I don’t want anyone else. Please.” His knocking on the door was constant, until his fist fell away, resigned. “Theo, please, I love you.”

Suddenly, the door unlocked and opened slowly. Theo stood in front of him, in a navy blue dress, the same color as her shirt had been, a silver bow wrapping her waist. Her hair was falling in waves just past her shoulders and she was wearing a pair of silver heels. Her body was shaking, from her heeled feet, to her lips, painted a gorgeous ruby red. Tears were still streaming down her face but she was laughing, a smile shining bright on her face.

“I’m Theodosia.”
