y’all !! hiii sorry i’ve been sm more busy lately than i expected but i’m coming on here like a week late to finally share with you my svt concert experience 🤩🥰 i miss them sm still like fr what i would do to go back :(( <//3 anyways let’s get straight into it shall we 🤩

so me and my friends actually got front row seats (not the floor but we were basically on the floor) this was my first time sitting here and i highly recommend. like considering the price, it’s super worth it. and like,, guys :’)) i saw dokyeom’s face clearly :’))) ahahaha cRYING

here are just some pics i would like to share :)) they aren’t the best quality but ugh the memories and feelings it brings me looking back at them :’))

and also since we were sitting quite close, i got lucky enough to be splashed by mingyu when he and the8 were throwing water and their bottles at the fans as well as got some of their water on the inside of my phone case !! if you’re wondering how that even worked, i had to take my case off of my phone cuz i was trying to charge it but my pop socket was in the way so i had to take it off, and then i got some of their water on the inside of my phone case 🥹🥹 hopefully that made sense djsjsj so now i carry mingyu and minghao germs in my phone with me 🥹 but yeah here’s a pic of gyu in action skdjsjdj

and then if you look on svt’s tiktok, you can find a video that minghao took at the concert i’m probs in there somewhere ,, at least i like to say that cuz then i get to “confidently” say i’m on svt’s tiktok 🤩🤩 DJDJDJD and yeah here’s a pic of him doing that and that’s mingyu there with him i believe 🥹

this was like a very brief story of my time at the svt concert (if you want me to share more pics i have over a thousand- sksjsjdj so don’t hesitate to ask 🥹🤲🏻) and omg like srsly ever since the concert, i’ve missed them so bad 😭 so much so that i may have been not keeping up with enha sm lately ??? it’s not on purpose tho 😭 i had the time of my life and it was such a cool experience. this was my second svt concert and seeing them so up close was so cool. the whole atmosphere was amazing (that’s a complete, complete understatement btw) and i was jumping, dancing, screaming and singing my lungs out. i miss them sm guys you don’t even know 😭 like me and my friends talk about it for hours every day still 😭 ugh 😭

also i’m dk biased (if you couldn’t already tell) and i came out of the concert still dk biased even though i may not always be loyal with the boys in enha i try my best to stay loyal within svt at least and plus dk has been my bias for years, there’s no turning back now i must stay loyal ✨🥰🤩 but !! (ok not me saying i’m so good at staying loyal within svt but then proceeds to say what i’m about to say) vernon and mingyu may have been on my mind for a while even to this day since the concert ,,,,, like mingyu’s hair that day omg 😭 and ugh they performed like three songs i think ?? that they’ve never performed before and we got to see the choreo for the first time and it was so cool omg 😭 but yeah. if any of y’all ever get the chance to go to a svt concert, i highly recommend. they’re so fun and it rlly shines through in their concerts and performances. i love them sm guys i wanna see them again so bad :(((

anyways i’m so grateful i got to see them again and for this day. idrk how to end this post lol pls why do i sound so awkward 😭 anyways thanks for reading and for sharing this experience with me even if t was just through a few words and pictures through your screen :) ily guys 🫶🏻🫶🏻 mwah mwah <3

After a grueling 6 months apart, you were more than happy to be in MetLife Stadium watching your boyfriend live out his dreams on stage. The Map of the Soul Tour was no joke; Jungkook was practicing all day and performing all night, and combined with your final exam season passing by it left little time for you to talk to each other.

Finally wrapping up the school year, you got in touch with Jimin to see if he could help you plan a surprise visit for Jungkook on one of their final tour stops.

All of the members had become like family to you, but it's no secret that aside from Jungkook you are closest with Jimin. He was like the older brother you never had, and you always ran to him whenever you needed relationship advice or a good hug.

As you watched Jungkook on stage you noticed his smile falter sometimes as he would be slightly out of position or dance off beat. You could only pick this out because you had spent hours in the practice room dancing with Jungkook.

You and Jungkook had come together because of your shared love for dance. He had first asked you out inside a very sweaty-scented Big Hit practice room, almost half of your dates ended with some form of dancing, and whenever one of you was frustrated you could always find the other teary-eyed, lying on the marley floor of a dance studio. You had always been there to whisper words of encouragement in his ear when he was feeling down, and you wished nothing more than for her voice to reach the stage at the moment.

Soon enough, the concert came to an end and you were flashing her pass to the backstage security guard to get to see the boys. Despite your uneasy feeling watching the concert, you couldn't ease the butterflies in your stomach at seeing your boyfriend for the first time in months.

Ever since you had planned this, you spent your nights imagining exactly how Jungkook would react: whether he would hug and kiss you first, stay frozen on the spot in shock, or start crying right away.

As you stepped into the Big Hit dressing room, you were instantly greeted with several smiling faces.

I didn't take you long to do a head count and realize that there were only 6 boys standing in front of you, and that your boyfriend was nowhere to be found.

Making eye contact with Jimin, you saw the softness in his eyes as he motioned for you to come closer so he could explain.

“He’s not feeling well Y/N, and none of us can get him to talk about it. We’re so worried. I swear I’ve only gotten like 2 words out of him tonight, and I even tried to make a nutella sandwich for him to cheer him up. I’m sorry this isn’t what you had planned, but can you talk to him please? For us?”

You took a deep breath before pulling back the curtain divider in the dressing room. Your nerves catching up to you, you considered just turning around and telling the boys you would surprise him at their next concert instead.

You had dealt with Jungkook being troubled and frustrated more times than you could count, but you were worried you had lost her touch after being apart from him for months.

Your mind also flew the other way. How many times has he felt like this after a concert and never told you? When he said "It was fun I'm just really tired now" after every concert was he truly feeling like this?

With that, you pushed forward because you knew that you had to be there to support Jungkook today, even if you couldn't be there for all the other times.

The sight that greeted you behind the curtain was not a pretty one.

Jungkook was staring blankly at the monitor in front of him, dark fringes of his hair matted against his sweaty forehead, tour hoodie zipped up completely with the hood on, and worst of all, his eyes were clearly puffy and swollen, with tinges of red coming through from underneath his makeup.

Jungkook barely even glanced your way as you sat down an ample distance away from Jungkook on the couch. It was clear from his lack of surprise at your appearance that one of the boys (probably Jimin) had probably told him about your surprise visit earlier in an effort to cheer him up after the concert, but even that could not get him out of this slump.

Of all the scenarios you came up with for how Jungkook would react to your surprise, somehow this one never crossed your mind.

You turned your focus to where Jungkook was staring - a TV monitor replaying video footage from tonight's concert. You watched as his eyebrows stayed furrowed as he glared disapprovingly at himself for making even the smallest of mistakes in the video, almost wincing as the TV monitor continued to play the footage.

"Do you want me to help point out things in the video?"

Jungkook didn’t even move a muscle.

You took the silence as a yes, and pulled a pen and the closest thing you could find to paper, a napkin, out of your purse to write on.

Working as a dance teacher had taught you more than a couple tricks about how to give constructive feedback, and you were a firm believer in the "give 2 compliments and then 1 thing to work on" approach. However, you knew the issue with Jungkook wasn't that he was truly bad at dancing, but rather that he was way too hard on himself for the smallest details that the audience wouldn't even notice - so she threw in a few more compliments than usual. Unsure of how Jungkook would react to seeing the list, you still threw some of those very nit-picky details on there, knowing that if he was still frustrated he would throw the list out all together if he thought you were just coddling him.

And so you both sat together in front of that grainy TV monitor, in complete silence aside from the sound of your pen scratching against the napkin.

- the ARMY at the corner of the screen during Euphoria had the biggest smile when you looked at her. I think she’s gonna remember that moment for the rest of her life.

And the list kept going on and on as you diligently focused on the screen and writing notes, taking occasional glances at your silent boyfriend.

Upon glancing over your shoulder and seeing your list, Jungkook smiled at your thoughtful and sweet comments.

All of sudden, a wave of consciousness and realization washed over him.

He finally has the girl he loves in front of him again after months apart, and instead of cherishing his limited time with you he was spending it watching himself dance, which is what he had already spent the last 9 years of his life doing. Most of all, you never let your smile falter once in front of him, even though he knew you may be upset with his response to your surprise, and you went along with whatever he wanted to do - even if that meant watching a very very low-quality video of his performances on a loop.

Grabbing the napkin gently out of her hands and placing it on the table, Jungkook cupped your face and looked gently into your eyes.

"Thank you", he said softly, as if not wanting to startle you with his sudden character change.

In your head there was absolutely no need for Jungkook to be thanking her for anything she was doing. She knew dating an idol would have its challenges, and she made a promise to Jungkook that she would be by his side through it all, even if that included rewatching Euphoria on loop.

It was now your turn to sigh.

“There’s nothing to thank me for babe, it’s just me. I wanna be here for you when you’re like this - I didn’t just date you so I could be there to celebrate your Billboard #1s and daesang sweeps, I’m here for these moments too.”

Jungkook further eliminated the space between you both by wrapping his arms around you and pulling you into his chest. In that moment he realized that maybe all he needed was you. That all these hurdles he had been facing alone would have been much easier if he had just let you in on his problems.

“I just feel bad Y/N, I haven’t even seen you for months and the first time I see you I’m like this? I’m sorry.”

The gears started turning in your head. Batting your eyes overdramatically at your boyfriend, you smiled.

“Okay how about we make a deal then babe?”

Jungkook looked at you curiously and let you carry on.

“From now on, every time you feel like this you come to me okay? We can figure this out together, but I can’t help you if you don’t let me in,” you expressed, grabbing his hands in yours.

“Also, if you felt like making it up to me you could buy me some ice cream? It’s not the same when I eat it without you,” you joked.

Jungkook’s melodic laugh vibrated through the room.

“Just ice cream? You’re selling yourself short babe. I’d buy the whole world for you, my love.”

As you emerged from behind the curtained section of the dressing room, hand in hand with a smiley Jungkook ( a stark comparison from how he was a mere hour early), you were greeted with Jimin jumping up and cheering loudly upon seeing the maknae.

Unable to contain his excitement, Jimin ran towards the two of you, chiming “you did it Y/N!! You brought back our maknae!”

“Good to see you smiling, Jungkookie,” beamed Jimin as he stepped forward to ruffle Jungkook’s hair.

Jungkook chuckled and looked up at his hyungs.

“I think I owe you all some ice cream. Ready to go? It’ll be treat.”

If his hyungs weren’t already excited to see Jungkook feeling like himself, now they were ecstatic. And you definitely felt the same way as well. ♡

Wakana Anime Classic 2020 Live Report

The live is scheduled to start in about 30 minutes. Do not forget to tune in. Better go to the page early in case there is too much traffic. This is a fairly new streaming site and Wakana’s concert will be their very first big live stream so I am preparing myself to be met with some initial difficulties. Of course I hope there won’t be any but one never knows. As always I will do some live commenting so please look forward to that.

Wakana looks like a queen wearing a gorgeous white gown. Beautiful flower arrangements all over the stage and fancy 3D/AR art. Streaming quality sucks tho T_T I knew this would happen. Space Craft really managed to pick the worst site for this *sighs* Live2U’s servers were already struggling when people registered but apparently they didn’t feel it was necessary to do anything about it. Thank God we are getting this archived. They better provide a flawless video for the archived version. I feel really bad because they obviously put a lot of money into the production but when the streaming site sucks, it sucks. Btw, lowering your quality provides a fair bit of stability.

1. Toki ni wa Mukashi no Hanashi wo: A bit shaky initially but after the first few lines her vocals sounded solid. 2. Yasashisa ni Tsutsumareta Nara: Honestly better than the studio version. MC: 3. Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa: No thoughts yet but it was definitely nice. 4. Rain: Wakana’s live performance actually made me like this song 5. When She Loved Me: I don’t know it but WOW! I cried! So beautiful 6. Mononoke Hime: YESSSSSSSSS! THANK YOU LORD FOR BLESSING ME WITH THIS! MC: 7. Kimi wo Nosete: Ahhhhh! So good!! Can I use the opportunity to say that I really love 1966 QUARTET. Their playing is so good. They SLAY! 20 Minute Intermission (to air the hall) She is back wearing the same dress she wore for her session with Satoshi Takebe 8. Kizuato: I KNEW she would be singing Kalafina but why Kizuato XD Not among my favourite Kala-songs tbh. I was secretly hoping for “Kimi ga Hikari ni Kaete Iku” but Kizuato is probably a better fit for 1966 QUARTET’s accompaniment. Anyways, I am not mad. She sounded good. 9. Mirai: I certainly did NOT expect this :P Quite shaky at parts but some of those high notes sounded absolutely beautiful. Overall not my favourite Kala-self-cover. I think she should stick to slow ballads. 1966 QUARTET are once again showing their talent!! MC: 10: Utautai No Ballad : I thought I didn’t like this song but Wakana changed my mind 11: Get Wild: I cannot express how much I love this song. Wakana’s performance and the arrangement! PERFECTION! MC: 12: Ai ni Dekiru Koto wa Mada Aru Kai: Wakana’s version of this is so good! I don’t particularly like the original version but Wakana gives me chills the way she sings it. MC: Already the last song is coming up. 13. Yume no Yukue: One of my faves from the CD and the live version is even better! Encore: I am not sure the live stream will include the encore. According to the description, we won’t get to watch it T_T As expected, no encore in the stream. I wonder what she is gonna sing for the encore. Apparently she wore a yellow dress. Maybe the one from the photobook? It WAS the one from the pamphlet!!! I see some tweets mentioning “Country Road” from Whisper of the Heart... And she sang “magic moment”! 1966 QUARTET also played a little encore, “Radio GAGA”.

Overall thoughts: Shitty stream notwithstanding, this live was REALLY good and definitely worth my money (although it was tad shorter than I expected). I don’t want to complain too much because it is already a privilege to get to watch those lives. Hearing Wakana perform all these songs was a revelation. For the most part she sounded AMAZING and she sang some of my favourite songs from the album. And OMG, Mononoke Hime.

PS: Seems like the archived video is also lagging due to too much traffic. Will have to watch it once everyone in Japan is asleep. The video quality is definitely better in the archived version but it seems that certain sections were completely cut due to the site’s awful service during the actual live T_T. How can a streaming site like that claim to offer good service when they suck so much?? That’s pretty much fraud. I am sure they must have noticed the complaints from everyone so hopefully they will do something to improve their service. They have finally acknowledged the horrible quality of the archived video and are claiming to work on it. This is why the video is currently not available. They better fix this ASAP.

Quarantine Q&A

I was tagged by the lovely @gremlinquisitor ❤️ Sorry it took me so long to get round to doing this!

Tagging: anyone who feels up to it -- like Erin said in her own post, take care of yourself first, and if you don’t feel like you can talk about this, then please don’t try to force it. ❤️

Are you staying home from work or school?

My husband and I have both been working from home since mid-March. I was already pretty much working from home before that anyway (been doing it for about a decade), so I was used to it and therefore don’t feel my life has changed dramatically. We’re really lucky that our jobs can be done 100% from home -- March and April were really busy months for both of us work-wise, so I think that helped us both cope and feel useful.

In a weird way, lockdown didn’t/doesn’t upset or stress me out? I think it’s because I had a head start on worrying about the pandemic back in January: I have family in China/HK/SE Asia and I was really, really worried about them for a bit. I follow a few Chinese-language social media accounts of people based in China / East Asia and what was coming out of there was really, really bad -- sometimes worse than what was being reported in Western media -- and people over there were so angry and terrified for months before anyone in the West started worrying about it, I think.

So, by the time the pandemic hit the UK and lockdown was announced, I think I was just relieved that finally there was something I could “do” about what was going on in the world, if that made sense??? I’d been reading these first-hand anonymous accounts “on the ground” in Chinese for two months by that point, so I felt like I kind of knew what to expect physically and emotionally. (My family and family-friends out there are all fine as far as I know, btw.)

If you’re staying home, who’s with you?

My husband. 9 weeks into lockdown and we’re still very much enjoying having each other around! He misses his colleagues, but he doesn’t miss his commute. We have the odd Zoom party and catch up with his family on FaceTime (it’s weird how it took a pandemic for us to think of video-calling them instead of phoning them), but yeah, he’s been great lockdown company and I love having him home! I don’t want him to go back to work LMAO!

We work in the same room, but tend to be very good at focusing on our work during the work day, so we don’t really distract each other and give each other space when needed (mentally rather than physically, though; we live in a tiny flat with only like 3 rooms so it’s hard to give each other physical space). We play endless games of Civ6 against the other during breaks from work.

Are you a homebody?

Before 2020? No, not at all. But after lockdown started? I’ve been discovering the delights of just chilling at home with my husband, being busy and in-demand at work, writing, reading books, teaching myself Photoshop (working through an online course LMAO) and playing Civ.

Also I’ve been really happy about all the money I’m saving from not going out and not buying anything apart from food and books LMAO!

I’ve not really felt very talkative this year; and after lockdown started, that even extended to many of my real-life friends -- I’ve just felt happy staying at home and not talking to anyone except my husband, for some reason. (As an aside -- sorry to all of you on Tumblr and Discord for not chatting so much -- it’s not personal, it’s just whatever phase I’m going through, both IRL and online!) I’m not depressed or anything, I don’t think -- just happy doing my own thing for a bit.

An event that you were looking forward to that got cancelled.

The one that I was most gutted about was the Euro 2020 football tournament (soccer to you Americans of course) -- I had tickets to go to the final in July. But the organisers said they’ll hold the tournament next year and tickets will be valid, so I don’t feel so bad about it now.

I miss the gym the most, I think. Everything else has kind of sorted itself out (even cancelled events), but the gym / working-out thing hasn’t. I started doing some home workouts with resistance bands at first, but I’ve fallen out of the habit of that somewhat -- it’s just not the same as having an actual barbell in your hands.

I was also meant to go on holiday to Greece with friends (12 of us) but that’s been cancelled. Funnily enough, when lockdown was announced in the UK I was secretly relieved, because I had a lot of social events lined up and my social life had been so busy up to that point that I was starting to get rather overwhelmed with it all. Turns out I’m an extrovert with a strong introvert streak.

What movies have you watched recently? What shows are you watching?

Hmmmm.... not really so much movies, I think. Aside from Frozen 2 (again). We’re currently working our way more through the 1994 BBC TV series of the classic novel Middlemarch (because I’ve been reading it), but we tend to play Civ, or read, or bake/cook, rather than watch TV.

What music are you listening to?

Gosh, loads, haha! The Frozen 2 soundtrack. Ibiza clubland tunes (to remind me of good times, LOL). Listened to old Eurovision tracks over the weekend (to get me in the spirit, even if Eurovision 2020 was cancelled). Attended virtual concerts that my friends in music bands have been holding. Pretty much everything you can imagine, whenever the mood strikes. Today I was listening to Suede’s Singles.

What are you reading?

Right now I’m reading “Middlemarch” by George Eliot; I’ve been getting through lots of books since February, both fiction and non-fiction.

That said, I’ve not really felt like reading fanfic much -- stopped reading Dragon Age fanfiction in December or January (and completely fell out of the fandom for a while, too) so I’m really behind on every longfic I was following. I’m only just starting to catch up on it all, in May, although I don’t see myself being in fandom/online that much. I’ll get to all your fics eventually! I’m just slow 😄

What are you doing for self-care?

Lots of things, and I think they’re helping because I’ve been coping OK so far (sorry this list is so long!):

Staying offline -- especially off Tumblr and Discord and Twitter -- more often, which has really helped me get work done (sorry I’ve not been around much, though) and finally getting around to doing all those projects I didn’t have time to do / wasn’t home often enough to do is helping, especially when I can see progress being made

Weekly therapy sessions -- started these last year when my brother got very seriously ill; the therapy sessions have now moved online via video-call rather than face-to-face and in-person, but I’m still keeping up with them through the pandemic. I haven’t felt like I need it, tbh, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to keep having therapy just in case...

Being grateful for how lucky I am -- I’m still alive and well for now, as are my loved ones, my husband and I are still in jobs / earning money, and things could be a lot worse; for example, at least I’m still able to go for walks in the park: my brother is officially a “vulnerable category” person who has to stay completely indoors and self-isolate for 12 weeks, even though he’s in remission; he can’t even go to the shops to get food

Working -- it’s been really nice sometimes to keep busy. The nature of my work means that unfortunately I can’t completely switch off from the news, so I tend to look at less of the bad and sad news and consume more the “how does the pandemic affect my specific specialism or field” news -- I find that limiting my news consumption is helping

Husband and I go for a walk in the park in the sunshine once a day (it’s been warm and sunny in London ever since lockdown started in March) for like 45 minutes a day. We have a really lovely park and I’ve taken lots of nice nature photos, and have discovered parts of the park and our neighbourhood that we didn’t know before, which has been very exciting 😁

We’ve been cooking and baking a lot more because we’re not commuting, and we’ve got time to cook ourselves nicer / healthier meals, and experimenting with baking puddings and cakes.

Taking multivitamins and fish oil every day, with boosters for Vitamin D3 and magnesium -- I actually think the latter has helped me sleep better and helped with motivation this year, but who knows LOL

FaceTime with husband’s family -- I actually think this lockdown has improved the quality of our relationships there, and they’ve been really happy to chat to us more often than usual

Just... not pushing myself on anything: usually I’m a really chatty and sociable person, but this year I’ve been far less chatty and just not felt so sociable, and just enjoyed being away from people to read and write or whatever. My one and only goal in 2020 is to survive it -- literally, given that there’s a pandemic on, LOL. Anything else is a bonus.

An Ode to Taylor Swift’s Approach to Self-Branding

In his book Stars, Richard Dyer discusses the way that movie stars’ personas are built and developed both within and outside of their films. Dyer suggests that the kind of characters that stars play feed into the overall narrative of their career. Taylor Swift isn’t a film star, unless you count a few brief cameos, but her persona is unique in that her personal presentation (Instagram, interviews and anywhere where she is pretending to be herself) and her performance persona (in photoshoots, music videos, live performances and arguably her music) are so nakedly constructed.

While she once may have claimed to have something in common with the girl she plays in the videos for Picture to Burn or Tim McGraw, these days, Swift is no stranger to drawing attention to how her image is created. If you don’t believe me, just look at the video for …Ready for It. She’s literally making a new Taylor.

Whenever T Swizzle releases new music, her fans are chided for combing through the lyrics and accompanying images with a fine toothed comb to find hidden clues or references to other parts of the Swift Mythos. Swift’s music videos are rife with call-backs, her lyrics shot through with veiled (and sometimes…not veiled at all) references to events in her personal life or previous work. As she proved with the Look What You Made Me Do video, you don’t need a cast of thousands of Hollywood stars and decades of comic books to create an extended universe; she did it with one name, one persona, reinvented over and over.

YouTube film academic Lindsay Ellis has pointed out that any text or product exclusively targeted at teenage girls (Ellis refers to the Twilight franchise of books and films) is received by audiences as being universally poor quality and worthy of spades of parodies and mean-spirited hot takes. A lot of media that is cherished by and targeted at young girls is considered extremely low art, and Taylor Swift, despite being a prolific songwriter and a consummate performer, is often dropped into this bucket with a loud, gangly thud. Regularly commenting on how much she loves Tumblr (a site often associated with the obsessive, single-minded fandom (you can read my Timeless reviews on this very blog btw)) as a way of connecting with her fans, Swift makes a big point of trying to connect on a personal level with the hordes of young women who connect with her music.

EM Forster wrote: “Only connect the prose and the passion, and both will be exalted, and human love will be seen at its height. Live in fragments no longer.” Swift seeks to connect with her fans who connect with her art. She’s attempting to turn a one-sided exchange into a kind of contribution triangle, whereby she’s inspired by her fans who are inspired by her work, and both contribute in the resulting music. By creating this pseudo-give-and-take, Taylor’s music and images become something more than a disparate set of marketing images and tunes, but one mythology – “fragments no longer.”

I think it’s admirable for any star to try and do this. As I mentioned at the start of this article, Swift’s persona is fully constructed. Her desire to connect with fans is extremely marketable and played up in interviews and even the way that she speaks to the literal thousands of audience members at her concerts. However, Swift’s detailed, complex mythos, full of symbolism and self-referential intertextuality is the net result of all that connection. It is a mad and brilliant scheme that ultimately acts as a cultural studies training level for her fans.

It starts when Taylor’s hidden a clue to her album title in her latest music video. Her fans interrogate the text, which is a CGI ridden 4 minutes that is so unreal in its aesthetic that every element has been consciously constructed. They dissect, they discuss, they write about their findings. You know, just like when a big controversial movie comes out. That’s right, I’m saying ME! is the Roma of the Taylor Swift world.

I’m a fan of Swift’s music (eye-roll all you want, she writes good tunes, bite me), but I recognised literally none of the symbolism that fans and super-fans and beleaguered entertainment correspondents across the globe are writing adrenaline-fuelled blog posts about. I’m 25, I work in media and I’m doing a masters in film – did I notice that the seven suitcases represented T Swizzle’s albums or that the whole damn video takes place inside a cocoon? No. I did not.

While the details that fans are going nuts about might not be ground-breaking or important in the oeuvre of film and cultural studies, it is so important that these fans are being encouraged to explore and interrogate these texts. They’re sharpening their teeth for tougher meat. Not every Taylor Swift fan will grow up into a film studies academic (although I would read a sci-fi short story where this bizarre phenomenon happens and somehow brings down society) – but the fans that engage on this level are learning how to explore media as constructed work in the context of its creator. THANK YOU TAYLOR! She’s not the hero that media studies wants, but she’s the hero it deserves…

We live in a media dominated age. Our politicians fight in snarky twitter battles, news breaking across the world is available to us pretty much as it happens, and our sexy looking lunches are tiny headlines broadcast from our social media accounts. Interrogating media is a really important skill in this age. Young women and men reading “too much” (don’t get me started) into Taylor Swift videos are learning three things:

1) Sometimes there is more to a media text than meets the eye, subliminal messaging is a thing.

2) Taylor’s persona is constructed and she’s consciously creating each new incarnation.

3) You can question the media that’s put in front of you, even if it is put there by someone that you like.

The way that people often dump on media studies and related fields as “reading too much into things” and “all bullsh*t” is frustrating. Not only is this argument kind of rude, it suggests that there really isn’t much more to a text than meets the eye. There is! Films, movies and music influence us every moment of every day, having the curiosity to ask how they’re doing that is not a bad thing. You’re not “making it all up” if you say that the way that Harry Potter valorises unrequited love is actually quite dangerous, or if you point out that the 2017 Baywatch manages to gently reinforce all the bad gender politics of the 1980s original (WOAH SHOCK) or if you want to write a gosh-darned 7,000 word essay on the bit where the snake bursts into a cloud of butterflies. That curiosity is empowering and exciting and exploring texts this way is fun.

There are caveats to this. Not everyone likes reading texts this way, and it is important to maintain your love for the movies, music videos and other texts that you explore even while you hit them with some cold hard theory. So here is my message to any Taylor Swift fan and budding media genius, stepping out into this wild world of media. Keep these things in mind:

Not everyone will share your passion, but that doesn’t mean your passion is bad - it just means that you might need to have other topics of conversation up your sleeve for when people just aren’t interested.

Be sensitive to your friends and don’t dump on all their favourite movies and musicians.

Be aware that a lot of people might not share your opinions.

Be quiet in the cinema because shouting “Dutch angle” every time there’s a Dutch angle will make people really mad.

But don’t ever be embarrassed to read into a text and ask questions about how and why it was made. T Swizzle has felt the brunt of a media age that says what it wants and airs your dirty laundry. She writes songs about how it feels to have a reputation you have no control over. Then she says to her fans “Hey, I’ve reinvented myself, come see if you can figure out what I’ve done! Dissect every frame of my video and every lyric of my song, and every damn pixel of my Instagram.” She sets up the media world as a puzzle which can be pieced together, and if not solved, then thoroughly explored.

Taylor Swift actually wants her fans to do this, and so do I.

aight ive been getting super emo over my favourite sunny eyed dreamboat boy mr sir van mccann so im just going to record my catb concert from three years ago here so it doesnt “wisp away with the sands of time” as i wrote in seventh grade (not after the catb concert) disclaimer i kno that some catb fans say that catb arent the same as they were way back when and im not here to counter that but this is what happened to me when catb were still small and it was 2015 and i know that things mustve changed but im here to document my own experience my hands are shaking btw

June 9 2015 - Varsity Theatre, Minneapolis MN

We got to the venue super early cos we wanted front row or something super fuckin close to front row and yeah man there were maybe like 5 people ahead of us super cool i had my clear backpack, my classic clear concert backpack, and im not really sure how we passed the time but eventually i was “sent on a mission” to see what lies in the alley between the venue and the adjacent building and so i walk over as casually as possible and i pass by the alley and turn my head and lo and behold tall boy Van is standing there in his green reflective sunglasses and dark outfit and i fuckign STOP cos van just he radiates this wonderful energy of that classic leo magnificence but hes smiling, hes friendly and he waves to me and i, being socially inexperienced, am too afraid to approach him so i wave back and WALK BACK THE WAY I CAME. so van watches me pass by the alley, wave at his wave, and then go back. super weird. i regret it but i think its funny. all i know is van smiled at me and he waved at me and i did something clumsy

concert: fuckin grand man i love the balcony, i love the red lights, i loved being second row dead center in front of dreamboat boy i love hourglass i still have my all time fav catb song rango on video fuckin class tops every concert ive been to so far bc i was second row (but am was so good too)

post concert: we were waiting s o l o n g for catb to come out. they didnt come out. I again was sent another mission back to the alley and there i saw a Very Tall Figure and was like fuck. somehow we approached and somehow I got pushed to the front so alas im standing in this narrow fucking alley at like midnight w a very tall man (whos beaming at me, sunglasses OFF) and since im in the front vans like approaching and i was yellin at myself like dont fuckign stand there bihinch so i muster the courage to meet him halfway and he greets me and holds out his hand for me to shake (I shake it) and here things start getting a little blurry in terms of order so here it is, most likely out of order but who will ever know for sure:

Somehow we hug. I forgot if i asked or if it just happendd but we hug. Hes very soft and very warm and he smiled.

i told him how great the concert was and how much i loved his music and how his concert “made my night.” He said something (while smiling) and then he said “youve just made my night” and of course i insist that hes made MY night cos like... no ones ever told me i meant something before so i told him again “you made my night” and HE SAYS “YOUVE MADE MINE” AGAIN LIKE BOY...... TAKE MY COMPLIMENT (he won the argument i left it at “no, you made my night”)

i remember that i got him a gift and a letter so at some point i pull it out and hand it to him. He smiles and says thank you, “i’ll be sure to read it” and tucks the letter into his chest pocket meanwhile i also hand him a little stuffed turtle and i, being a Weakling in social situations, quickly explain that i hope he likes it and that “im not sure if you like turtles, but-” and he cuts me off and reassures me that h eDOES like turtles and he takes the Little Turtle in his hand and bends down next to me (cos im small and van is Tall) and tells me about the time a fan gave him a little turtle bracelet ehich he wore almost all the time and pointed to his wrist of the arm he wore it with (i forget, oh dear. i believe it was his right?) (”but it broke”) and he looked at me and smiled while we were in that position his presence is very warm and then he straightens back up and holds the little turtle in his hand up against the golden streetlight where he “promises to take good care of it” and i swear the pure joy on his face the entire time made me fall in love (though it fell dormant until 2018)

At soe point i take a very bad, very poor quality selfy with van but to this day it remains on the back of my clear phonecase becasue we looked so happy despite the terrible lighting and it reminds me of him. van had to bend down next to me to take the picture, and his arm was around my shoulders. He was hesitant to stand back upright cos he thought i wanted ot take more. i didnt (another regret but boy do i treasure the one selfy)

I hand my phone to catbs old manager for group pics. He (the manager) and van take selfies on my phone, which i dont discover until later

we take group pictures. we r all happy. i havent looked at those.

i know its time to leave because i want the other fans to meet the band. I dont want to leave obviously. I ask van for another hug. I hold on to him very tight, and he does the same. i can only reach his collarbone, despite him bending down to reach me.

Van has an endearing way of hugging, ive noted, where we hug at the side (my right, his left) together while the other sides are kinda separate, not touching, but u have ur arms wrapped around eachother, my right arm underneath his left and onto his back while he can quite literally put his entire arm around me, the opposite arms are kind of around each other. I try to go onto my toes to hold on to him closer because he feels like a safe haven and he makes me feel like i belong somewhere and he makes me feel tranquil and warm and everything positive but not in the jittery excitement kind of way, just peaceful. I hold on to him very tight. its the last time.

We wave goodbye. its very cold without him despite being warm enough to wear a skirt and short sleeve

I go home and remember that i have another little turtle, but this one is blue and a bit worn (thus i gave van the green one). I name it Van and keep it on my bookshelf.

#sometimes when im upset i repeat these details to myself in order to ingrain it into my memory forever becasue #im so afraid of losing it and of losing the memory of him.#and this is why its so hard for me to believe that hes changed (for the Not Better) because when i met him #you couldnt mistake the pure happiness on his fasce and no one really has ever looked that way because of me before #and so ever since then i like to call van my best friend because tast how he made me feel like we were best frineds #but i know we arent and i think it would be sad to call him that when these days i do have friends so i call him my 'Best Fendi' cos hes a #'designer boy' and fendi is pretty close to friend in terms of spelling and ive realized the yellow lights are the yellow of fendi hahah #oh man im oging to cry i havent iver tried writing stories that are based off of this but ive never written anything so specific #like plotlines tossed this is what happened this is what i remember no characters to hide behind nothing this is it #its been htree years and i still havent gone back to listen to tyrants or watch my videos i know ill cry if i do #it was the first time i felt like i belonged somewhere because up until then the only friends i had were toxic friends #so i like to think of van as my first friend #ok im fuckign rambling now im going to stop here hahahhahhah #ignore me #june 9 2015 #if if if #this is why im so in denial of what youve been saying about van changing i just after that i couldnt believe #i cant believe that what they say and the boy i met are the same #even though rationally i know they are right but Emo Me loves to disregard it thus this blog is still functioning #with love letters and sappy tags and heart eyes #maybe i wont ever come to accept it #and so van became one of my fav boys not just catb as my top 4 bands but van himself #i dont knwo i dont have enough control over the english language to descrive everything i dont i wish i did #💚💚💚

1. do u ever wish u were someone else?

yes. i wish i could be like a dolphin. they always look like they are smiling, no matter what. a baby dolphin’s mom could have been caught by a tuna net, but it still smiles. dolphins are strong.

6. ur opinion about ur body and how comfortable u are with it?

i don’t like it. i have so many stretch marks because my weight has fluctuated a lot. i’m hairy. my chest isn’t perky and feels really heavy. i wanna hide most of the time. i don’t like to be looked at. i used to feel comfortable enough to wear dresses and i wore a lot of makeup, but i now wear loose ts and leggings a lot. i also used to seek validation from others in the worst ways, like posting and sending nudes. i’m sorry if this is negative, but it’s honestly how i feel.

however, i will say it’s not all too bad. my skin is really soft and warm. one time, my little sister and i were walking in sprouts. she comes up behind me and says, “soft!” :D it made me feel good. at least i am soft.

7. do u have any tattoos or piercings?

oh my gosh. i saved up enough for a belly button piercing! i hope to get it this fall. i am of age, but latino parents wouldn’t let that slide. in the fall, it’d be easier to hide since i’ll be in school. i really would love some tattoos! i’d like a dolphin, a bunny (because i loved mine so much), two strawberries, and a bear. i’m going to work later this summer, so hopefully i can get some of them

8. what would u say is ur best quality?

that’s really hard oof. i’m really soft. on the inside and outside. i get hurt really easily, but i also get happy really easily!! and that’s a good thing. i laugh at the dumbest things, but that is good a nosy bitch curious. i want to make a living out of learning.

9. what are u really bad at?

everything. i have really poor self-discipline. and i am a very selfish person.

kinda, yeah. it was traumatic. i still feel very bad because i can’t bring myself to forgive the offender. for the longest time as a kid, i hated being touched and the grown ups in my family thought i was being cold, but i just didn’t want anyone near me. i felt disgusting, i still feel disgusting. i was really aggressive to others, including my little sister, just because i wanted to be alone so bad. and she is my strength, but even then i was so angry. i was also convinced i could never see men the same way again. i love girls, but i was still uncertain about my sexuality. i found some boys attractive, but felt such fear and hesitation. and for the longest time, i didn’t know why until i went to therapy as a young teen and was told, “this isn’t right.”

i shared a lot, but u get the idea.

I JUMPED WITH JAE: My Experience at the Day6 Live and Meet in NYC

Hello! If you read the title right, yes that did happen, but I’ll get to that later. I would have posted this sooner, like right after I got home from the concert, but being a college student in the middle of midterm season, I was too stressed to even get to this until now. But here I am! So without further ado, here is how my night with Day6 went!

So first of all, I got myself a P2 ticket, which means that I didn’t have to get in the line super early for the hi touch since that starts after the concert ends. I still got there by like 4 hehe. Anyway, as soon as I got to the venue, I was already met with familiar faces from the KARD concert in NYC (that I also went to and that was LIT), so I was able to wait at the door because of them. It hasn’t even been 5 minutes since I got there and I’m somehow already on Subkulture’s Twitter, like holy crap they’re fast. Trying finding out who I am from the posts that night heh. While waiting there, I got myself a free banner for the fan project (which went decently from what I saw) as well as some high quality fan made photos of my bias Wonpil for four dollars, and I thought it was a pretty great deal for four dollars!

To whoever made these photos, you are amazing. She made so many more photos of everyone else as well, and they all looked incredible.

I met some P1 holders in the line as well, and before I knew it, all P1 holders were going in to do their fansigns. What I didn’t expect was for them to come back outside, since they didn’t do that for KARD. What was great about this though was that I could see everyone through the glass door walking out just moments after their fansigns ended, and I saw everything from happy and ecstatic to sobbing and crying, and even to some just looking flat out DEFEATED. Those kinds of reactions make my day even better hehe. On a side note, to the girl in the green sweater with P1, you almost made me cry with your beautiful reaction TT

Some of the fans came prepared to show how dedicated they were, as someone brought a Bob the Builder plushie to support Sungjin and someone even made a We Want Bald Jae 2K17 banner which was HILARIOUS xD

The people around me decided to do some sing alongs to Day6 songs, and before I knew it, I’m in the venue with $100 already spent on merch. (YIKES) Though $60 were from friends, so no, I am thankfully not too bankrupt hehe. Going further into the venue, My friend, who shall be referred to as ‘A,’ and I decided to take pictures of us sitting on the stage with the tour sign and instruments, and even though we got yelled at for doing so, we still got the pictures. Worth it!

An hour later, the concert starts, and I felt even more excited when Day6 came out than for a lot of other Kpop groups and bands. I grew up listening to alternative and pop rock music Paramore and Fall Out Boy, so I already had the familiarity of listening to a band in a concert. But at the same time, I’ve also grown to the familiarity of the Kpop chants, so that’s two in one for me! They all looked beautiful on stage, and they were all very charming, both while they’re performing and just sitting around. Some of my favorite performances of the night included I Smile, Noah, Congratulations, Dance Dance, and Free하게.

Some highlights of the night for me include Wonpil wearing a suit, the majority of the audience not knowing what Sungjin likes, and Jae getting lit during the encore. As one of my friends described it, Wonpil wearing a suit is like a child wearing his father’s suit, which just made it even more adorable to me. I actually can’t get enough of this man, like I need help. (No pictures, sadly) As for Sungjin, during the game, I feel like using Overwatch as the picture for video games baited us so hard, and when Sungjin said he likes sports more than video games, it was just so hilarious looking at almost everyone sitting down because they thought wrong. Though I felt so bad for Sungjin, like I really wanted to just hug him after that.

Now as for Jae, I first have to thank ‘A.’ She found me a spot closer to the stage to sit at, and it was an isle seat so that I could see Dowoon even clearer than before. If it weren’t for her, I wouldn’t be writing about this, so thank you so much ‘A.’ Free하게 was just playing, and all of a sudden I see Jae get off the stage and run straight forward in my direction and all I’m thinking is “BOI WHERE ARE YOU GOING HOLD ON.” He got so close as he stood on one of the seats across from me and began hyping up the crowd to start jumping, and before I know it, I’m jumping with Jae, who’s like only a few feet away from me, along with the people around me. No words could express how happy I was during that moment like… damn man. You’re amazing, Jae.

One thing I noticed was that halfway through the concert, I realized that I just never look at Dowoon playing the drums. Like I always forget that he’s a part of the band just because he doesn’t sing, and that made me feel really sad. So to compensate, I took a video of mainly him playing the drums for Congratulations, and it was just really nice seeing him in his element playing the drums. He looks really comfortable back there, and it made me happy seeing him just doing his thing.

Something that I also noticed is how RUDE Young K can be. Like he can get into the music like anyone else, but sometimes he’ll just be getting his groove on a little too much and all attention goes straight to his hips. Don’t you dare do this to us Young K! I don’t have any videos of this, since he kinda does it really sparingly. (And tastefully too hehe)

I honestly am trying to think about other things that have happened during the concert, but they’re all in this happy and beautiful blur, so if I missed anything else that would be a disgrace to forget, 미안해요 ㅠㅠ

So the concert ended, which means that I’m now waiting to do the hi touch. One of my friends wanted me to record her doing her hi touch and she said she’d do the same for me, but the thing that I thought was that if it was anything like the SVT concert in NYC, you would literally cut a random corner and all of a sudden you’d see the members. And that’s exactly what happened! Like stop giving us heart attacks! I was pretty much as shook seeing Young K first after cutting the corner like how I was shook seeing freaking Minghao first in line for SVT’s hi touch. The staff wanted us to go at a pretty fast rate, as seen by the Day6 members just holding their hands out, not looking to grasp your hands for longer than two seconds. The order btw was Young K, Dowoon, Jae, Wonpil, and Sungjin. So besides just saying “Hi [insert Day6 member’s name],” I tried adding personalized statements like “You’re so amazing Young K,” “You’re so cool Dowoon,” and “You were so lit Jae.” I did say all those things and they just smiled and nodded their heads, and then I get to Wonpil and things already feel a little different LOL. Like everyone else including Sungjin is like leaning in towards the table to get to eye level of their fans to say hi and high five them, and then you have freaking Wonpil who’s standing a little further back, and he’s also puckering his lips inwards, squinting his eyes a little, and doing this kind of nod that could translate to something like, “Yes I know, I know I am.” The most adorable man in the world like I actually can’t even. I didn’t personalize anything for Wonpil as a result of that shock, and then I ended up doing finger guns to Sungjin?? Cute, heh. All of that took like seven seconds, like I even said to myself “Wait can I do that again?” But yeah that was that, and like any other hi touch, I wish it lasted a little longer.

I thought I was gonna go home right after that, but then I notice the van that Day6 would be leaving in, so I decide to wait around there until they came out. The wait took nearly an hour, but the experience was more frustrating for me in the end, just because the van decides to move after the long wait, and ten seconds after that, you hear the fans at the other side of the venue scream for Day6 one last time. No, I didn’t see them there. Sad? Yeah. The screams lasted like ten seconds at most, so I assume the members just walked out, maybe gave a wave or two, then rushed into the van. I thought I’d go home in some disappointment, but one last thing actually happens as I walk back to the train station. As I cross the street, I notice a van that was “very similar” to the van the Day6 got in, and me obviously being very curious, I take a peep through the windshield and believe to see Dowoon’s silhouette. I was kinda just looking in disbelief, like “that’s no way that could be Day6′s van, but what if it is?” Because I’m a little too considerate, I end up not saying anything to the van and just look at the van in pure confusion for the next twenty seconds before they went off. Assuming it was actually Day6′s van, I wonder if, one, they actually acknowledged my existence, and two, if they recognized me from the concert. I’m pretty different from a lot of the people that went to the concert for ‘one main reason,’ so I think there’s a good chance that assuming it was them, they did. I’ll leave a picture here to ponder over.

But yeah, that’s how my night went. I took the train with some friends, slept, went to class, and went back to the rough school life. It really was one of the best concerts that I went to, like it’s at least in my Top 3. I could argue that there were some downs in the night, like how I didn’t personalize anything to Wonpil or say anything to the van, but I’m not sad about any of it really. I enjoyed my night with great friends with one of my favorite groups. It was a good night~

so i am back from got7′s melbourne fanmeet and here are my thoughts!!

ok so, i’m ngl, i was not very impressed with the organisers of this event?? everything seemed like such a mess, and it made things awkward and weird. i’ve been to lots of kpop concerts/fanmeetings since i first got into kpop, but this one was the most messy imo :/

and it’s funny bc got7 aren’t even my fave group out of all that i’ve seen, but i was soooooooo excited for this fanmeet, more than for some other groups that i consider faves.

i got there kind of late though (5pm), and so most of the merch was gone (though i don’t think i had plans to buy any so that was prob good for my wallet), but most of the freebies ppl were passing out had gone too. i managed to get a pack of cute photocards and a banner but that’s about it. i was too busy in the gold queue for wristbands. i got the yellow one!

that being said, even at the very beginning when they had technical trouble (the curtain was supposed to drop and reveal the members but it never did so they had to bring guys in to manually remove it from the hanging), it was kind of like an omen of what was to come (this sounds so dramatic).

that being said, this is no slight on the boys at all!! they were wonderful! (and dealt with the curtain malfunction perfectly). just other things could have been handled a lot neater by the organisers tbh.

i think they performed q and sign first?? i’m trying to think back on everything... i really love q esp btw, it’s one of my faves on the album (just kind of sad that they didn’t do my fave: paradise).

so at the beginning, andy (the host) asked them a bunch of questions based on the arrival letters. idk i feel like that concept made things a bit awkward, esp when he’d have to prompt the boys to talk. i always like it better when one of the mcs is in the group itself bc since they all know one another, it kind of makes it easier to get a conversation/banter going? they did good though! and mark talked quite a lot in this portion, which warmed my heart. he was pretty good at getting the others answering the questions, and it was all really cute :’) (esp when it was revealed that he and jb have been stealing jinyoung’s shampoo and jinyoung told them it was ok bc “we are one”...he touched jb after that and i’m sorry but my jjp heart launched itself right out of my chest i love them i can’t believe i witnessed that live...I WILL GET BACK TO JJP IN A MOMENT THOUGH).

also, when he got to the letter V, bambam started talking about taehyung?? then he and the translator had the most awkward exchange ever bc bambam joked about it being nice when he’s next to taehyung?? something like that, and the translator thought he said the sun (taeyang), and bambam was like nope this is bad joke sorry. it was so awkward to watch but thinking about it now makes me laugh so much though oh my god.

everyone seemed in a good mood but jackson :( idk if something is up with him, whether he’s not feeling well/he’s tired/misses his mum (bc it’s her birthday) or maybe even his brother and niece, but i don’t think he even talked at all during the first question round. he kind of just sat there looking sad while everyone else talked. i have seen jackson get like this in varieties and stuff, but it’s really heartbreaking to see in person, esp bc jackson is usually so hyper, and he’s my fave too. however, he did talk more towards the end, and i just think he was having an off day (which i don’t blame him for at all bc the amount of stress and work that they have is ridiculous). i think i spent most of the performances staring at jackson and feeling really worried about him, which gave what i was watching more of a sense of realism that i usually don’t feel when i’m at a concert. either way, i really do hope he feels better soon whatever the case.

also, i didn’t talk about youngjae yet!! he wasn’t there (he’s in korea bc he’s not feeling well. he’s with coco according to mark :p), so we didn’t get to see him :( he did have a video message for us though, and the cheers were so loud for him every time they showed him on screen it was great :’D i hope he feels better soon too!

anyway after that, they had a games round and i think the first one was the cheek to cheek round and the JJP LET ME TELL YOU. so basically, it’s that game where two ppl are blindfolded and then there’s an object held between both of their cheeks and they have to guess what the item is using only their cheeks (jackson: “any object?? even a PINEAPPLE”). jb and jinyoung were put together and i y e l l e d bc i never thought i’d get to see jjp live but boy did i. i actually legit got choked up and i’ve never felt that way at a concert before. like my bias could be dancing right in front of me but give me my otp and i am a fucking goner. THEY DID THE JJ CROSS THING. also one of the members (bambam??) took away the object at one point and jjp were cheek to cheek/sort of kissing?? i can always trust the other members to give me A++ quality jjp content so thanks guys!! (btw their object was an apple). jackson and yugyeom were next (object: plush toy parrot) and then (after some discussing) it was mark and bambam (foam plane).

either way, the jackson/jinyoung/bambam team lost and jackson had to do a girl group dance (aoa’s excuse me) and it made my life. he’s so cute. also at one point jinyoung had to do aegyo and he apologised after but it really was adorable i love aegyo.

i think they did the x2 dance speed game after that? this is another thing that annoyed me. the speed was wayyyy too fast, and yugyeom even brought it up after the first round...that not even weekly idol did it that fast, and whether the organisers could make a bit slower, but nope, just as fast during the second round... and idk. i just didn’t like how the organisers dealt with that.

but before they started dancing bambam was like “i need to take my earrings off for this”. i love this kid.

mark/jb/yugyeom lost and their punishment was another fast dance oh man.

i’m prob messing up all the order with everything that happened, but i can’t remember too well haha.

i know that they performed fly and skyway at some point in the middle though. and it’s funny bc fly isn’t my fave title track of theirs at all, but i loved watching that performance.

i haven’t talked about how cute both yugyeom and bambam were though!!!!! they were so fun and if i didn’t have my bias already locked in place they would have threatened that position so easily :D also bambam kept dabbing but does that come as a surprise to anyone. pls. they seemed really happy :)))

so at some point they had a draw to win an all member signed placard, and they were supposed to pull seat numbers from a box. like a lucky draw type thing. each of the members was supposed to pull a seat, BUT when they started they kept drawing blank pieces of paper?? and so andy had to go backstage to see what was up with the blank pieces, and then got7 were told to entertain the crowd in the mean time, and it was just so disorganised? like the members were kind of confused, and the organisers were kind of scrambling to figure out some way to choose ppl (at first they wanted the members to point out ppl from the crowd, but then they managed to get the lucky draw thing to work somehow idk). anyway, to distract us all, bambam made yugyeom do a sexy dance which was awesome, but also yugyeom is a BABY to me. he’s younger than my lil bro and he can sexy dance all he wants but i still feel like his mother haha.

also, at some point a fanboy won one of the placards and bambam (and mark) got super excited about it. bambam wanted another fanboy to win one it was cute.

they did their ments then. it went: jackson, jinyoung, jb, mark, bambam and yugyeom. all of them did it in english except jb haha. jinyoung’s english is REALLY good. like i knew he was good, but i didn’t expect it to be THAT good, you know? i also really like how whenever jackson tells everyone to stay healthy, he always stresses both physical AND mental health. it’s nice :’)

they performed hard carry and never ever then, i think? suuuuuper hype!!!!!

ok so another awkward moment is that during encore, one of the members (mark?) told everyone to get up out of their seats and literally everyone started rushing to the front of the stage. like everyone in gold. and then the security guards had to yell at everyone to go back to their seats, and bambam was just like “...i just meant get up, guys. not go forward...” and it was just a confusing mess of awkward but also kind of funny now that i think back on it. but then they came out and performed out and go higher and ppl swarmed to the stage again, but i don’t think the security guards could do anything at this point since they were performing already. either way, i got a good view of all the boys since the ppl in front of me had headed to the front and it was BEAUTIFUL. got a good view of pretty much all of them tbh since they moved around the stage a lot.

LASTLY, HI TOUCH!! so everyone in gold was given an armband at the start (either green, yellow or pink). they announced at the end that green and yellow were hi touch and pink was the photo opp. i’m actually SO GLAD that i got hi touch bc i wanted that more than the photo opp. so yesssss, i’ve actually seen up close and touched all the members (except youngjae ughhh). order was: yugyeom, bambam, jb, mark, jinyoung and jackson. i was telling myself that THIS TIME i would gauge their heights (bc i always want to do it when i do hi touches but never end up managing it bc it goes by too fast). i was soooooo nervous when we were lining up. maybe even more so since i waited longer than previous hi touches, and when we were lining up all of us got a nice view of them and they’re so good looking irl it actually pains me. and no, i didn’t remember to check our their heights. hah.

it went by so fast (like most hi touches), but i remember yugyeom and bambam’s hands are pretty soft. jb and mark smack five you a bit more. i don’t remember what jinyoung and jackson did bc i literally forgot how to word and exist the moment i saw jinyoung. he is GORGEOUS. you think you know but you don’t k n o w. i also very clearly remember yugyeom bc he was first and there was a tiny lag in the line so i was prob in front of him the longest. bambam was really cute. jb gave me direct eye contact. i love him. mark tbh i don’t remember all that much bc it was too fast :( jinyoung, like i said, ethereally beautiful. and then jackson wasn’t as smiley. i think he still wasn’t feeling so great, so he just looked a bit sad/serious :( anyway, i didn’t manage to say anything other than “hi” to them, and i don’t think any of them said anything either? just smiled mostly.

also, when i was lining up the security guard told me that her fave was jackson and i was like saaaame girl.

either way, the last person i touched was jackson and the first person i saw was my bro who told me to touch his face so i rubbed jackson on him haha.

and it’s funny but i don’t feel that post concert/fanmeet depression feel as much lately when i go see groups. i just feel kind of happy and a bit nostalgic, which makes it a lot easier to deal with. i’m so happy and fortunate to have had this experience (despite my qualms), and i like feeling like this. it’s a lot better than being devastated that it’s over. of course i’m sad that it’s finished, but i’m also really looking forward to looking back on this whole experience as a fond memory in years to come. and there’s something really nice about that, i think :’)

#TrashTalk 4: Could You Really Enjoy Your Photo and Video Which is Directly Recorded from Your Smartphone?

Tell you what, 2 weeks ago I watched 2 concerts for 2 days in a row. At friday night, I was persuaded by my friend to watch Danilla's concert at the opening of Clicksquare, a newly community-based concept mall in Bandung. Then, at Saturday, I went to Balai Kota to watch Raisa for the closing of Asian-Africa Conference Carnival.

I couldn't be happier because those 2 singers I watched are two of my favourite women singer.

Who's do not know Raisa? Raisa alone is really a Diva wanna-be in Indonesia. A naturally beautiful has perfectly good voice and the most important things is she's not a “drama queen”. Yes, she chased her carrer without any scandals and controversies till she become as well-know as nowadays. Shortly, she becomes a really good singer is purely because her talent. That's really fascinating for our entertainment world that full of weird simulation and unimportant news. Btw, congratulation for Raisa for your engagement with Hamish Daud, hopefullly everything will be okay till the D-day.

And now, Danilla. Anyone knows? Thought Danilla is very underrated singer in Indonesia. Maybe just a few people knows her. It comes to she's really not that famous because she is very rarely performing on TV. But if you are addicted to indie music, you would certainly know her. I’m merely not an addicted to indie, but I like her because she's well-talented musician with unique voices. In addition she seems a friendly and pleasant person. Danilla has some good easy-listening songs and I'm sure her calmful song is could soothing your aching soul. and I reccomend you to listen "Berdistraksi" and "Ada Di Sana". Brace yourself, earworm likely will strike you once after you start to repeat her song.

Back to my topic about my experience watching concerts. I was happy because I could watch and listen two really good singers directly from their vocal cord. But, I'm a bit interested with the culture of using smartphone while we're watching a concert.

The use of phone camera is increasingly prevalent in concert or music festival now. Phones with camera bring up the habit of taking photos during concert. The development of social media is also influential in the habit of watching concerts or music festivals. Now, people can easily tell where they are, mostly through social media that have geotagging facilities. Or via short messages, either sms or apps like WhatsApp and Line. In addition, we could share our hysteria and joy through social media. No longer merely through the stories spoken through the mouths. At least, now we could create status on Facebook, Line, Twitter or Path during the show. Furthermore, there's an Insta-story now, so we could "show off' our joyful experience easier and more interesting because we could share photos and videos there.

The result of this phenomenon is hundreds of amateur photographs, some are good quality, but there are also so many ugly low quality photos. Similarly on the Youtube site, which is now flooded with thousands of amateur concert videos. There is something nice to watch, but the others are some videos that could make deaf our ear (bikin kuping budeg) because of the cracking sound (suara pecah-pecah), also there're some videos could make us cross-eyed (mata juling) because the videos are terribly shaking.

"Taking photos and videos of the concert is a way to let me remember this moment, this important moment."

Some Psychologists mention that using the camera simply does not help the refreshment of memory. Psychologists called this Photo-Taking Impairment Effect, or the effect of memory attenuation due to photographs.

Also reminded by that article is, we often equate the photo as a moment recorder and memory freeze. That is wrong. Photos will not change any time you see, but memory and memories will change at any time. But this does not mean taking photos is the wrong activity. It's just that psychologist suggested that we should be more aware when taking photos. Enjoy the moment, then take one or two photos.

"The objects that they had taken photos of — they actually remembered fewer of them, and remembered fewer details about those objects. Like, how was this statue's hands positioned, or what was this statue wearing on its head. They remembered fewer of the details if they took photos of them, rather than if they had just looked at them," - the article says.

In addition to the problem of memory attenuation, excessive use of mobile phone cameras when the concert can trigger resentment. Starting from the another audience who feel disturbed, until the musicians themselves. The usual problem is it's like we do not appreciate other audiences, yes it's true that it's really up to us to record, but sometimes some people bring a tablet that is fiercely too big for a picture or recording, so the audience behind it must be disturbed, right?

Actually, if you think it deeper, almost all the photos and videos taken by us through the device when the concert is performing is not at good quality at all. Could you really enjoy your video footage that's directly recorded from your device?

Finally, I have a perfect closing statement from Beyonce about using of cameratized phone on concert, "enjoy your concert with eyes and brain, not with your ugly photos and videos"

「KEIKO First Live K001 ～I'm home～」First Impression

1.Be Yourself: Live instruments sound so much better here than in the studio version but Keiko is quite shouty and out-of-tune during some parts (mostly the chorus). Maybe not the best start but hey, I still enjoyed it. 2. 始まりは | Hajimari wa (Beginning): Better than the studio version imo but overall pretty similar. 3. Ray: Definitely better than the studio version. A lot more ooomph if you ask me. By now KEIKO is really into it and not as shouty as she was for “Be Yourself”. Unfortuantely they kept those weird electronic sounds from the studio version in the live back-up track. I had hoped they would get rid of those.

MC:She greets everyone at the venue and watching at home. She hopes we will all have a great time. Next up is a song that hasn’t been revealed yet.

4. 溜め息の消える街 |Tameiki no Kieru Machi (A Town Where Sighs Disappear): New song for the album. I like it but it’s not my favourite. From what I can make out, the lyrics are lovely though. Love the rainy vibe

MC:Keiko loves how the following song opens up wide sceneries. She has always liked that about songs so after consulting with all kinds of people, she decided to pick this song for herself even though it’s quite different from all her other songs. It’s actually the oldest song among all her pieces.

5. 茜 | Akane (Madder Red): A very traditional sound with some Chinese elements I think. Kinda like Wakana’s Kinmokusei but not quite as good imo. But still, I am blown away, such a beautiful ballad. Fits Keiko’s voice perfectly. LOVE IT (just a few tiny little off-key moments but nothing too bad)

MC: Self Introduction. 10 years of Kalafina and vocalist at YK’s lives. Some promotion for YK’s upcoming live. For the next section she wants to cover some songs that she has sung during YK lives in the past.

6. 宝石 | Houseki (Jewel): The musicians don’t do a good job here, the drums in particular sound quite out of place and borderline grating to my ears. Or is it just me? Keiko is providing lovely and solid vocals but imo they aren’t quite on par with the FJ performances I have seen in the past. 7. 風の街へ | Kaze no Machi he (Towards the Town of Wind): This one on the other hand is absolutely FLAWLESS imo, KEIKO hits every note and I just love how she chooses to sing her lines. It’s different from her old style so I don’t think you can compare it to those FJ performances from the past. But it does remind me of the more recent performance I saw during the YK live in Taiwan. The musicians also sound much more balanced here.

MC: Keiko talks about the venue being in Shibuya which is a very important place for her. She would come here weekly during her time in school since she took voice training lessons here. At one point she heard a song by Yutaka Ozaki at Shibuya Scramble Square and immediately fell in love. During her time in Kalafina she would always name him as the artist that has influenced her most. So of course she has to cover one of his songs for this live.

8. I LOVE YOU (Yutaka Ozaki Cover): This made me cr even though I have never heard this song before. You can tell KEIKO feels strongly about his music.

MC: Introduction of musicians & reading some comments Bass.目黒郁也 Ikuya Meguro (she loves his solo in Kaze no Machi he) Key.ミトカツユキ Katsuyuki Mito (he sings a bit in Hajimari wa) Gt.和田建一郎 Kenichiro Wada (Hajimari wa, Tameiki no Kieru Machi) Dr.北村望 Nozomu Kitamura (she met him at the PrincessPrincipal live)

Everyone is going crazy about Kacchan (the pianist) in the comments. She shows off her haribo gummies and M&Ms in the clear bottle. Lots of fans are having dinner while watching the live which Keiko finds super cool. She had steamed buns for breakfast. I love that she is wearing her super old boots that she used to wear back in her Kalafina-days (during live-house encores in particular). She chose an outfit in which she feels relaxed. Keiko wanted some up-beat songs for her live so the following two were chosen quite quickly.

9. エンドロール (End roll) : So the bracketed lyrics are backing vocals provided by herself. No guest vocal unfortunately. Either way, a really good song that gets everyone hyped just as promised in the tweets. Reminds me of a song but I don’t know which one. I guess this is Keiko’s “Ongaku”, maybe it even reminds me of that? 10. Change the World’s Colour: Her deep voice is back!!! Combined with a super high vibrato voice during the bridge (just wow - that singing style is gorgeous, reminds me of her singing in Sans Toi M’amie). Btw, for a second there I thought she was gonna sing “Mata Kaze ga Tsuyoku Natta”

MC: She talks about her countdown tweets where she wrote down some lyrics of the previous two songs and was teasing everyone with some hints. Keiko probably wouldn’t have chosen those two songs if it hand’t been for this live stream concert. She thanks everyone for waiting so long for her return. She is super grateful to be able to hold this live.

11. 命の花 | Inochi no Hana (Flower of Life): Stunning! As gorgeous as the studio version but much more impactful.

ENCORE: Album Release => December 2; It was planned for autumn but it ended up being winter. She apologises for letting us wait. Her excitement when she mentions that YK has written a song for her album and Kore-chan has provided the guitar playing is so freaking cute. She is the most precious human-being on this planet.

12. 七色のフィナーレ | Nanairo no Finale (Finale of Seven Colours): my first thought was that it sounded kinda futuristic XD Also, you can definitely tell it’s a YK song but it really fits Keiko’s solo style. Love it, a super catchy tune, the chorus in particular. And those lalalas!!! *is dead* 13.& 14 Double Encore Synchronicity & Nohara (Venue ONLY): Wish I had been there T_T

Can’t wait to rewatch the archived version. My faves (in no particular order) were probably Ray, Akane, Kaze no Machi he, I LOVE YOU, End Roll, Change the World's Color, Inochi no Hana and Nanairo no Finale.

You CAN STILL BUY tickets so be sure to SUPPORT KEIKO! It’s totally worth the money. The live lasted about 1 1/2 hours, pretty short but an okay length for a first solo live I would say. The audio and video quality are great and now that the live is archived till September 13 you won’t have to deal with any streaming issues. Find my TUTORIAL here. Keiko sounded fine for the most part but occassionally she was a bit out-of-tune. She is really straining her voice with this new singing style. It’s a bit of a hit and miss I feel. But I think she will eventually figure out how to sing her songs in the best way possible. Wakana did the same thing.

Now I am gonna try to order the live goods. Will let you know whether it works or not. EDIT: Okay, I couldn’t do it since the payment needs to take place on delivery...Stupid methods from the dark ages...Need to find another way to get my hands on the goods.
