🚬🦇 Vampire!Price 🚬🦇
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Vampire!Price AU where he's 737 years old and has been through countless wars. One of the most powerful beings in existence who has the gift, or rather, a curse of eternal life. Now he's with the SAS, forming the Task Force 141, a team of soldiers with special abilities. In the modern day though, Price has sworn to only consume animal blood, because if he consumes human blood (even the enemies') his thirst will grow insatiable and he'll harm other people he grew to cherish, which explains his pale skin colour. He hasn't drunk any human blood since WWII. When he's at the height of his powers, he can control the blood flow of other beings with blood, and with that, their movements and even every pump of their heart. That is, until he met Gaz, who hadn't a single drop of blood inside his body. Spoiler : it's Mummy!Gaz 👀
What a fun experience ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Revisiting the Vampire!Price had been really enjoyable, plus the fact that I get to study more shading and colouring techniques (because I suck at colouring)!
That cup is definitely just a red tea.
Hope you love this art! ૮ ˶ᵔ ᵕ ᵔ˶ ა

Hi,
Hope you are doing well. Thank you for the response on my last query. I was reading a meta about the air bender extermination, which you had reblogged in one of my older queries on TSR.
Reading it properly. I realized two things
The fact that all the air nomads were exterminated makes no sense. Were they stupid enough to not escape when they were attacked? If we are to believe none escaped, then air nomads are actually dumb.
The above also goes against the fact that Aang's Avatar training was to begin when he was 12 instead of 16, because the monks seems to have realized that the war was approaching, and he needed to be ready, which is why they tried to take Aang away from Monk Gyatso, which led to Aang running away out of fear.
This goes into LOK territory, but there are some disturbing implications of the way the Air Nomads operate. The idea that every air nomad child born will be a bender is just not possible. Heck, two of Aang's children are not air benders, so that itself throws a wrench in that idea. It also makes them similar to Ozai, if they actually held such idea (this point is never made in the shows or acknowledged in canon I think, but the idea is dangerous, and well Air Nomads are not to be idealized.)
I would like your thoughts on this.
(The meta I am referring to is; " The Airbender Extermination Is Dumbo and I Refuse to Accept It" by tumblr user @whentheynameyoujoy)
@whentheynameyoujoy's atla metas are a treasure, and I agree with the above statements. One of the big plot holes in the story is not only that the air Nomads were all exterminated in one fell swoop, despite being Nomads, something the live action adaptation tried to explain by having them all come to the Southern Temple on the night they were attacked, and Sozin purposefully planning his attack on that day. But the other thing about it is that as you say, the reason Aang was told before sixteen was because the Air Nomads knew the war was coming. They were preparing for it, to the point where they were willing to put a child's life on the line before he was ready, but they weren't prepared enough to be ready to fly away the moment a threat occurred? If we factor in the live action, this also means they decided to all have a party in the same place on the same night that they knew the people who wanted them dead would be at their most powerful.
It also just doesn't make thematic sense. These are AIR Nomads, they should be able to go wherever the wind takes them, to scatter at a moment's notice, to rise no matter how many times an attempt is made to crush them. Wouldn't that be a satisfying ending, for us to find out that like the air, there were hidden pockets that remained, permeating even the fire nation so that it would be impossible to truly defeat them. Wouldn't that also fit really well with the whole illusion of separation thing?
Which brings me to point three, or, Eugenics is Good When Good People Do It, which is actually very bad. The only way the Air Nomads only produced benders is if they did not mingle with the other nations, which makes no sense, since they were nomads, or if they somehow got rid of nonbender babies, either through dropping them off at the nearest earth kingdom orphanage (which is similar to my headcanon on what people like Ozai might do with nonbender children, or straight up infanticide, which Ozai also is a fan of.
Unfortunately the first method does not explain why there were no airbenders just hanging out in the other nations. Since we know that bending can be passed to a child from nonbender parents, then even nonbender children of air nomads would be passing on the airbender gene, and there would be nonbenders all over the Earth Kingdom suddenly giving birth to airbender children. That actually would have been another clever way to reintroduce airbenders back into the world, instead of...whatever Korra does. It also fits with theory of people like Ty Lee having air nomad blood without knowing it.

I've recently finished TLOK & there for joined the fandom and... Did we even watch the same show???
(Very long & passionate rant under cut)
Like mf wdym Korra is the worst/weakest Avatar? It's physically not possible for her to be the weakest as the cycle goes on the Avatar spirt gets stronger so technically the weakest Avatar is Wan!! But I still want to point out the many reasons why Korra isn't the weakest or worst Avatar.
Firstly, I want to acknowledge vaid criticisms of Korra. Yes she constantly underestimated her opponents but in her defense she was severely inexperienced. She'd spent most of her life in that training facility in the south Pole and then once she got to republic city was almost immediately thrown into dealing with the equalits so she underestimated Amon due to lack of experience. She was then manipulated by her uncle so can you really blame her for not realizing he was evil till it was too late? THAT WAS HER FAMILY!!
Anyways, Korra has faults like every Avatar but she also has feats that you all seem to forget/over look!
My main example and my favorite to bring up in this argument is; Korra on harmonic convergence after having Raava RIPPED from her (need to emphasize the fact that Korra did not give Raava up willing like some of y'all like to think, she fought to keep Raava with her and was devastated when she lost her and the past lives. She didn't give it up willingly) meaning she didn't have the Avatar state and this fight was just her pure strength against UnaVaatu.
Tumblr media
KORRA BEAT HIS ASS WITH NO BENDING, NO AVATAR STATE, NO PAST LIVES, NO NOTHING. KORRA FIST FOUGHT THE SPIRIT OF CHAOS AND DARKNESS AND WON!
But I have more examples of how strong she truly is (there is no order to them lol).
Korra broke out of Blood bending without the Avatar state (something Aang couldn't do).
She had control over 3/4 of the elements at like five, and the only reason it took so long to master Air bending (which still only took like a few months) was because she didn't get a teacher until she was 17!
Tumblr media
Korra fought one of the strongest air benders WHILE DYING, like ppl forget she was slowly dying during that fight. She was weakened and still won.
Tumblr media
Now let's talk about another one of my favorite feats of hers, REDIRECTING THE AVATAR UNIVERSE VERSION OF A FUCKING NUKE. Like it was so powerful it ripped open a whole in space & time, creating a new spirit portal and she redirected it and wasn't even fazed. Like I'm 90% sure she didn't even break a sweat!
Tumblr media
She's the first Avatar to metal bend, ik it's likely because she's the first Avatar to exist when metal bending was more common but she was metal bending in like a week! That's not something anyone can do!!
Tumblr media
Another reason I have is technically not about her strength but more about the strength of Korra's version of Raava. When Korra re-fused with Raava, the Raava spirit was bigger than it was when it was ripped from her and alot bigger than the version Wan fused with meaning Korra has a stronger version of Raava than previous Avatars making her inherently stronger than them. When Korra re-fused with Raava, she was big enough for Korra to ride on her but when Wan fused with her Raava fit in a tea pot.
Now time to defend Korra's loses!
・Korra lost against Amon because she was inexperienced, she'd spent most of her life away from the world and wasn't prepared to fight a master water bender.
・Korra lost Raava because it was supposed to happen. Ever Harmonic convergence Raava and Vaatu fight so it's likely that ever 10,000 year's the avatar cycle will restart, also did we not watch Korra be absolutely DEVASTATED that she lost her connect with the last Avatars? Like she spends most of the time during the 4th season wishing she could talk to Aang!
・Honestly I don't even know if Korra won or lost against Zaheer but I do know she was slowly dying during the fight. She was no where near her full strength! Also, the red lotus was actively surprised at how well Korra fought against going into the Avatar state just showing her control over it.
・Korra got her ass beat in that ring in the earth kingdom because she was rusty and GOING THROUGH IT! Like she hadn't fought in 3 year's and she was still working through her turama, it's the samething when she lost to old Toph, she was rusty, still being affected by the poison, and traumatized. There was on way she was going to win in that state
・ Korra lost in her 1v1 with Kuvira because she was rusty, she hadn't fought in 3 year's and you expect her to be as good as she was before her hiatus? Bitch please! Korra quite literally goes on to go toe to toe with Kuvira at the end of the season when she'd worked through her rust.
In conclusion, Korra isn't the wort or weakest Avatar your just over looking her feats and dumbing her down because you can't except your fav isn't as strong as you think. She was ment to restart the Avatar cycle, and she also isn't even in her prime! She's 17 in the first season, 18 in season 2 & 3, and 21 in the last season, Korra is still at the beginning of her career as an Avatar. She's only going to get stronger.
Also no, I'm not a Korra glazer. She's not even my favorite Avatar, it's Kiyoshi.

I love your mdzs avatar the last airbender au so so sooooo much!!! Do you have any thoughts on what kind of benders/nations the other mdzs characters might be? (Also your art is so wonderful in general I've loved everything you've posted for this fandom, thank you for sharing your art with us!)
I’m glad you like it!! ATLA and MDZS are some of my pieces of media, so I love being able to weave their worlds together. I struggled between whether to make Wei Wuxian an airbender or a firebender, and that really played into my world building for this AU. While I think the dynamic, kick & flip-heavy fire bending martial style (alongside their dress code) really fits Wei Wuxian, I decided to make wwx an airbender due to his carefree and fun-loving personality, and Baoshan Sanren being an airbender.
Backstory-wise, Baoshan Sanren is the leader of a small collective of remaining air nomads living secluded on a mountain. Air bender Cangse Sanren left to roam the world, and she eventually met Wei Changze, a water bender from the Jiang swamp tribe.
The Nie live in hostile mountainous regions and are earthbenders renowned for their extraordinary strength.
The Jin make up another part of the earth kingdom, and are specialty metal benders. They’re very affluent due to their weapons and jewelry trade. I like to headcanon the Mo clan being sand benders— for no actual reason. I just think sand bending is neat. If Wei Wuxian were to be reborn as Mo Xuanyu in this AU, that’d make him one of them.
The Lan are the equivalent of the northern water tribe; they live far north & are surrounded by snow and ice. Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji are the first and second princes, respectively.
The Wen are the fire nation— as much as I didn’t want to fall into stereotypes, it just works too well. They literally live on a volcano & attack the other kingdoms in order to “share their wealth of knowledge”. They have the Jin crafting their metal tanks because Jin Guangshan is a power-hungry POS.
Additional points:
I like to think of Meng Yao as a really crafty non-bender; constantly underestimated because of his perceived weakness. He uses that against them.
Nie Huaisang is an earthbender. He just pretends he isn’t. All non-benders in the Nie clan are still extraordinary warriors— like the kyoshi warriors!
The Meishan Yu tribe are firebenders; lightning benders, to be exact. Madam Yu is a lightning bender. I’m as of yet undecided on whether Jiang Cheng's bending takes after his mother or father.
Jiang Yanli is a healer!! A really good one!!
Wen Ning is a non-bender, but a very good archer. Wen Qing uses lightning bending to defibrillate people.
Lan Qiren IS master pakku.
Wei Wuxian can see spirits!! He is a very spiritual boy!! Instead of inventing demonic cultivation, he invents spirit-bending and learns energy-bending from the lion turtles.
Blood bending is forbidden in the Lan Sect. Lan Wangji's mother was secluded for practicing blood bending.

Hi I don’t know if you’re a fan of Avatar the last airbender at all but I’d thought I’d ask what bending ability each character of Bily you think would have?
oh this is a really interesting question! of course i'm a fan! my cat is named momo after the charecter cuz she's got stripes on her tail too <3 but as for the bily packmates!!!
water - Namjoon (i think he'd greatly enjoy being a healer, but he'd also accidentally discover he had the power to blood bend and then never tell a single soul that he knew how to do it), M/c (because of her love for the ocean, i see her being very soothed by it. she'd help hoseok water the garden without him asking too and he'd get all plucky about it because namjoon usually helps)
earth- Hoseok (cuz of his whole plant thing) Yoongi (because he's a builder and would absolutely LOVE stone carving, he'd make a cathedral for the m/c like- all carved out pretty- i think it's interesting how the series never made earth benders artisans you know? yoongi would make it more than just moving earth)
Fire - Jimin (because i think jimin has alot of anger), Jin (because i think he understands the necessity of violence at times)
Air- jungkook (for his love of freedom and how much he'd absolutely love flying), Tae (in the gentle sort of way, i don't think she'd like bending very much, she might not tell anyone she had the ability and just do her little ribbon dancing thing <3)

This has probably been done before but whatever!
Avatar The Last Airbender but Hama managed to get back to the Southern Water Tribe.
It took some time to perfect bloodbending enough to escape but better late than never. After a couple of days she stumbled across a small town. The people were kind. Fed her, gave her clothes and even had a job ready for when she regained her strength.
Disgusting. Their spices and seasoning made her throat burn much like the air in her recent prison. Shades of red all over her body just the lashes they gave her and her people. A job...HA, they'll work her until she sweats blood...
She hates that she can't look any of them in the eye. Hates how the mere yellow of the flowers reminds her of the gleeful expression the guards had when punishing her. She hates how her body flinches and quivers when a child uses her bending to light a candle.
Disgusting.
It takes 2 weeks until she's healthy enough. It takes another until the moon is full. She certainly won't be going hungry for quite some time on her journey home.
After years of travelling she's built up a reputation for herself. The Puppeteer. Most places think of her as a spirit or vengeful ghost. But the places she lingered at know better, even after all these years some of those towns still have curfews.
After years of travelling she's gotten even better at her craft. She hopes that by the time she get's back home there'll be few little benders running around for her to teach.
Finally she's back. The tribe is joyous when she returns. A miracle they proclaim. She's dressed in her missed furs and blues, fed meals she dreamed of and tried recreating but alas it could never beat the real thing. It's wonderful to see old and new faces but sadly there are no more benders...the good news is that Kanna has a son now!
Decades go by and finally a bender is born! Kanna's granddaughter. Finally she has someone to carry on her work, and so eagerly too! Little Katara simply can't wait to train with Auntie Hama.

Ive just been watching Avatar The Last Airbender clips lately and like-- lol what if in SAGAU you teach them to control their Vision powers similarly to how characters in the show bend their respective elements??
So like-- i imagine that Anemo, Pyro, and Electro Vision holders would have similar moves and spend a lot of time with each other since i do remember Uncle Iroh calling the Air and Fire elements very similar to each other. It reflects in their bending as well, it just differs in their approach to it. While both have similar bending styles, the Air benders are much more passive and defensive in their bending while Fire benders are much more aggressive and offensive-- you can really see it whenever Aang and Zuko fight. I put Electro in there as well since electricity in the Avatar world is a highly specialized and advanced fire bending skill. I imagine a lot of Vision holders in Inazuma would DEFINITELY try to figure out the lightning redirection skill out of fear of the Raiden Shogun LOLLLL
The water element is STILL OP AS FUCK with Hydro, Cryo and Dendro learning a whole lot from each other. Cryo is there because of obvious reasons aka ICE IS JUST HARD WATER GUYS WHY THE FUCK DID YOU MAKE IT A SEPARATE ELEMENT-- and Dendro is there because plant bending in ATLA (yes plant bending is a thing) is just finding the water in the plants to bend them. The theory is similar to metal bending and blood bending-- you find the bendable parts amidst the unbendable parts and you move those.
Geo is just Geo because... its GEO. ITS JUST ROCKS. DO I NEED TO SAY MORE.
I imagine that the Anemo guys, Venti especially, would very much enjoy their new found speed and agility with Venti just yoinking the concept of an Airbender Staff for himself or even inventing new ways to Windglide using the gliders already there and just innovating the already existing skill. Heizou would also really appreciate it, considering how he doesnt really like fighting and prefers incapacitating criminals as swiftly as possible in or out of a fight. The fuckery you could do as an Airbender man--
Like i said earlier, the Pyro and Electro Vision holders would really take a special interest in each other. I can imagine Thoma trying to find someone with an Electro Vision so he can try to learn how to deflect lightning. (Haha ARCHON QUEST GUILT--) and ohhhhh my gOD i can already see cOUNTLESS cocky Pyro and Electro Vision holders in Inazuma AND EVEN OUT OF INAZUMA just going "STRIKE ME DOWN RAIDEN, YOU DONT THE BALLS--" just because they learned how to redirect lightning AHAHAHA
Cryo and Hydro would hangout a lot and like-- honestly, Cryo might hangout a lot with Geo as well considering how cryo is just Ice but Solid. Its kinda similar to bending earth in that way. I still do think that Cryo and Hydro users would learn a lot from each other but Hydro learns more from Cryo and Cryo learns more from Geo. In the bending sense at least. So i imagine that the closest Cryo can get to Hydro is turning the ice into snow or slush and the closest that Hydro can get to Cryo is slush as well but much MUCH more watery. Like a half melted Big Gulp from 7 11. Honestly, i can kind of see Eula using this as an opportunity to both better her reputation AND to better care for the knights under her since waterbenders are the healers of the bending world. So, i can see her visiting Barbara a lot and getting healing lessons from her or her like-- groveling at Dionas feet trying to learn how to heal her troops AHAHAHA
DUUUUUUUDE the Geo dudes are gonna have sO MUCH FUN SINCE LIKE-- even tho earth bending is SUUUUPER underrated, in the right hands its SO fucking op. I can already see Ningguang trying to master metal bending so she can literally just-- detect what metals are around her and the quality of them. Like "oh this ugly unrefined lump of metal is much MUCH more valuable than the necklace youre trying to sell me there. Tell me, youre not foolish enough to try and swindle the Tianyuan Qixing? Oh? How was I able to tell? With the knowledge and gifts brought by our Grace of course!" And Zhongli trying to master every aspect of earth bending, from seismic sense to metal bending to lava bending and so on, because even though he stepped down as Archon, he is STILL the Prime of the Adepti and Lord of Geo. And if this brings him a closer connection to the Overseer? Lol thats just an added benefit AHAHAHAH
The Dendro users thoooo, they would DEFFO take advantage of their inherent and direct connection to water to better connect with the plantlife around them. ACTUALLY i can see Collei kind of learning how to heal herself of Eleazar BECAUSE of her connection to Dendro and Dendro's connection to water-- the "healing" element. And i can also see Tighnari like-- using it as a different sort of "seismic sense" in a way. Thanks to the lessons learned from the Hydro users that can now fucking bend plants, he can turn that lesson-- the "finding the bendable parts amdist the unbendable parts" and turn it into his own! So he could, using his Dendro Vision, detect and identify any and all plantlife nearby by the way the Dendro element surrounds the Hydro element that flows within the plants themselves! If hes familiar enough with the plants, and honestly he probably is, he could determine its age, species, health, and any other aspects of it he'd want to learn
And ohhhhh my gOD-- dont even get me STARTED on them mixing in their own martial arts into their bending styles. Because like-- each bending style is based off and inspired tby many real life martial arts. Tai Chi for waterbending, Hung Gar for earth, Northern Shaolin for Fire, Ba Gua Zhang for air and so on. So, imagine them just mixing in the fighting styles of each nation or even their own personal fighting style into their bending style! So like-- i can see Thoma mixing into his Firebending some Inazuman Judo or Karate (both are Japanese martial arts and Inazuma is based off Japan) and some Mondstadtian Ringen (Mond is based off Germany and Ringen is German style martial arts/grappling) to really like-- personalize and make Firebending his very own. And, taking that further, even taking the lessons from the show-- the lesson that every element is connected and that you can learn from each and every element. You can actually see that in, as how ATLA goes on, you can see the Gaang and the other benders using bending moves from other elements-- not just Aang learning the other elements to become a Master Avatar but literally everyone-- Zuko using a move he learned from Iroh who learned from waterbenders, Katara using earthbending moves to bend ice, and so on. I could think of more but im currently sick off my ass and my brain is mush. So characters who already have a fluid connection with their Vision/Element or just have that fluidity thanks to their job or their natural personality, have a much more unique way of controlling the elements! The only ones i can think of rn is Yunjin and Childe-- Yunjin because of the slight and fluid movements she makes as an opera singer and actor, i mean-- have you even watched her attack animations? Theyre SOOOO smooth and pretty!! And Childe because of his Delusion, meaning hed already be trying to learn the other bending arts and, thanks to his fight brain, would definitely look for a way to incorporate each elements bending styles and moves into his own
FUUUUUCK dawg, i could go on and on and ON but im currently sick off my ass and i need the rest gjsjfnsjfi-- Feel free to yoink my idea and build off it!! Id love to see what yall think :))

aight Spy x Family Avatar AU headcanons because why not
(reminder that I am anime-only)
Twilight is the avatar, born as a waterbender. In that world though, the avatar is not a coveted nor a respected position. It's one the various nations want to take control of. A few avatars before Twilight didn't get to live past their early twenties because they were indoctrinated by various extremist groups (some backed up by totalitarian governments) and were eventually targeted and assassinated by other nations. The world is pretty much constantly at war as each nation tries to get the avatar on their side to use to their advantage. Even some Air Nomads abandon their pacifist way of life and join in the war. (In this world the Air Nomads weren't slaughtered, because people want the avatar cycle to continue so they can use the avatar, and because there would be different political situations than the ones in AtLA that led to the Air Nomad genocide).
At the time [redacted] was born, people knew the current avatar would be a young waterbender, so most waterbender kids were hiding. [redacted] proved to be a waterbender, and his mother advised him to hide his bending, even from his father (I'm thinking the mother could've been a non-bender and the father a waterbender). During an invasion of his hometown, a soldier killed his mother in front of him, then turned to him. The moment was so shocking and traumatizing that [redacted] entered the avatar state for the first time (without having control of it), creating strong winds that broke the windows, and as it was raining outside [redacted] made dozens of small ice daggers with which he stabbed the soldier, killing him. When he came to he realized what had happened, what he had done, and he ran away in shock and fear. The whole experience was so traumatic that he had no memory of entering the avatar state, so he didn't realize he was the avatar yet. With the war still ongoing, he was drafted into a waterbending army, and with the hate he carried for other nations for killing his family, he joined an extremist group of soldiers that taught each other bloodbending.
And thus came his darkest time, the one current Twilight carries the most regret, shame and guilt over (If you don't know what bloodbending is, the word is pretty self-explanatory. It's the process of manipulating someone's blood, thus controlling their movements and being able to kill them without even touching them. It's one of the scariest concepts in AtLA). Together with his fellow bloodbenders he would capture, torture and kill soldiers of other nations, until he accidentally used earthbending to protect himself from an attack, and the other bloodbenders turned against him. Faced off against both his ex-comrades and enemy soldiers, he entered the avatar state again and accidentally killed everyone. Again he had no control of entering the avatar state or what he did while in it, but this time he retained all of his memories.
Fellow soldiers found him later among the corpses. He was badly injured and weak, and they simply considered him a miracle survivor of a bloodbath.
While he recovered, the world reached a reluctant and fragile truce, ending up in a cold war situation where they started using more insidious means to locate the avatar. At this point many people were convinced the avatar died and was reborn as an earthbender.
[redacted] eventually trusted and joined WISE, who lost their fucking minds because we have the avatar on our side??? And like, aside from the avatar being an immensely powerful weapon for them, as a spy he could use any type of bending and thus take the identity of pretty much anyone.
As Twilight, he was provided by WISE with training for all bending types, including healing via waterbending. As part of his training, they made a reference to bloodbending as needed for a last resort situation but he said a decisive no. He became determined to never use it again, and up until the current story starts, he hadn't actually used it since the war.
Eventually, word gets around about Twilight, but many consider him an urban legend merely for the idea that the avatarTM would NEVER join a covert operation! The avatar would want to be recognized! ... yeah, some people are deep in denial.
Being able to control all four elements also helps with his forged identities. Lionel is a feisty firebender! Lawrence is a sneaky airbender! Robert is a meek non-bender! Loid is a humble earthbender! Definitely not the same person! (When he's on a fake identity using his own face, he rarely if ever poses as a waterbender, because there are a few people who are still suspicious of waterbenders his age being the avatar)
Yor is a firebender. It feels like it's fitting, idk, maybe it's the red colour she's usually connected to, so. You'd say, she's the Thorn Princess, shouldn't she be an earthbender? And I'd say no because earthbending has to do with rocks and ground, not with plants or organic life in general. As an assassin she'd only use physical weapons, to make people think that the Thorn Princess is a non-bender, and look! I can obviously firebend, see? Why would I use weapons when I can just burn people to death? Not that I'd ever think to use my firebending for that! *sweats profusely*
Her firebending could parallel her superhuman strength (yes she is super strong in this too) and so it's more of a cause of nervousness than anything else. Since she'd already accidentally hurt Yuri with her strength when they were young, she's afraid she might accidentally also burn someone (she hasn't, and she won't), so she doesn't use it in everyday life and is very meek about it, almost ashamed when someone finds that out about her.
Yuri is a non-bender, and that adds to his admiration of Yor. Look at my awesome firebender sister who is perfect and beautiful and supported me! Another reason he joins the secret police, because he feels inadequate in a world full of benders and such.
Anya is an earthbender, but she's pretty bad at bending even for her age's standards. She's still a telepath, and uses the "I can tell when someone is lying through earthbending" (like how Toph does it in AtLA) as a cover whenever she's caught being a little too perceptive - even when there's no earth between her and the person lying. A reason why she's bad at earthbending is because there was no earth in the lab and the scientists never let her outside, so she had no chance to practice until after she escaped.
She reads Loid's mind when he visits the orphanage, and Loid thinks about how he needs a kid with bending abilities for his mission, and Anya immediately tries to bend the soil from a potted plant, with weak results.. He's not impressed so she goes for the crossword and then he's tricked convinced.
Eden only takes bender kids and focuses a lot on training them to be good benders, so after adopting Anya, Loid poses as an earthbender so he can help train her. It goes as bad as teaching her about fractions.
Since a lot of people believe the avatar is now a young earthbender, Anya as well as other earthbending kids face discrimination at school, but it's subtle enough that Eden does nothing about it. It certainly doesn't help that Anya has to approach Damian...
Damian is an airbender, which he considers a curse because his father is a firebender, his older brother is too, but instead he had to inherit his mother's bending ability and thus be shunned by his father.
Franky is an airbender too, and he's the only one outside of WISE who knows that Twilight is the avatar (aside from Anya, of course). He's personally learned to use airbending to his advantage when obtaining information, like manipulate the air in order to hear a conversation or swipe an important piece of paper towards him.
The Handler is a non-bender, posing as a harmless secretary at the Westalis embassy. She can totally kick ass, however.
I'm thinking of making Fiona a waterbender, which would add to her "I'm perfect for Twilight!!" obsession since she knows he was born a waterbender too.
Bond was born as an experiment, where his DNA was mixed with old DNA of flying bison, and as a result he has airbending arrows on his skin (which are hidden by his fur) and he can fly. Only Anya knows about that, however. It would minimize his coolness but I doubt the government would allow a "simple" family as the Forgers to keep a flying dog.
The story could build and progress in a similar way, with any fitting changes put in.
Anya is SUPER excited that her papa is not only a spy, he's also the avatar and is on a secret mission to bring world peace! Yor feels very accepted by Loid and Anya, especially since they don't fear her strength or her firebending and accept her cooking. While Loid trains Anya for earthbending, for the first time he experiences bending training that isn't mean to be preparation for war or conflict in general. For the first time he's teaching someone how to use their skill for good and how to learn to control it and nurture it, instead of learning/teaching how to use that skill to protect themselves from harm or to cause harm to someone else. One time Anya uses her bending to draw a "family drawing" on the ground and it almost makes Loid cry.
Yor would first find out that Loid is a spy, which would make her feel angry and betrayed. It would be when their paths would cross on a mission that they'd both get into without knowing about the other, so he'd also find out about her being an assassin. But then they'd be lured into a trap where huge cascades of water would fall on them (make it full-on cheesy James Bond style traps) and having to choose between dying and revealing himself to Yor, he chooses the latter and uses waterbending to save them. Realizing Loid is the avatar and he also chose to save her after she found out he's a spy, Yor is very very conflicted with feelings of shock, with anger for Loid having lied to her, with protective feelings because she knows that being the avatar in this world very much sucks, and gratitude for him having saved her life.
They agree to keep up their pretend marriage... and things get very weird for Anya because she knows they both now know about each other and yet she still can't say a word.
One of the saddest parts of Anya's powers being revealed would be that Loid would ask her why she wanted the avatar as her father, and she would say because she found him super cool. It would break both Loid and Yor's hearts because Loid hates being the avatar, he hates what it has cost him and how much he's had to hide because of it, and only sees his multi-bending as the weapon that WISE considers him useful for. Similarly, Yor understands his position and feels protective of Anya's innocent mind that thought the avatar was simply "cool".
Eventually they'd settle more and more on being an actual family, loving and caring for each other... but then Twilight would be caught multi-bending in the act. The SSS would detain him and keep him captive. Using the media to confuse other nations and powers, they'd make different media claim on different times that the avatar has died and has therefore been reborn as an earthbender, while Twilight is still held and tortured in their secret cells. With different dates of death reported, foreign powers cannot be sure when the avatar has been reborn, earthbender new parents are panicking, and expecting earthbender parents all over the world are starting to flee. Tensions rise and the SSS are about to execute Twilight until Yor, Franky, Fiona and Handler all team up to rescue him. He makes a public statement through a protected TV broadcast that he is the avatar and is still alive.
Shit hits the fan and Twilight considers having someone kill him while he's in the avatar state (which would break the avatar cycle and stop the avatar from being reborn) but Yor changes his mind, promising him that if it comes down to no other choice, he can enter the avatar state and she will kill him herself. All Forgers, Bond included, run away together.
With the knowledge that the avatar himself has been fighting for peace, hiding in order to avoid becoming the weapon of a greedy, war-mongering nation, and that he made a public appearance for the mere reason of protecting young earthbenders, he gains a lot of supporters across the world... including Yuri. However, knowing all the powers of the world would target whoever helped him, he refuses to come in direct contact with any of them.
Long years of hiding and running ensue. He continually begs Yor and Anya to settle somewhere so that Anya can have a normal life but they know that a telepath on the run from a human experimentation lab would never live the life he'd dreamed for her, so she wants the best she can get, and Yor will go wherever Anya needs her.
About once a year he makes public statements about being alive, gaining more and more supporters as some political leaders start having earthbender kids and know they're safe from being targeted.
Across the years there are times that he hides on his own, while Yor and Anya are protected by Yuri and other supporters, and they reunite after a few months. At some point, ten years after his escape, they're surrounded by armed soldiers, all hope looks lost; Twilight enters the avatar state (stopping the soldiers from killing him) and is about to ask Yor to kill him, but realizing that would cause the soldiers to kill her and Anya, he turns towards the soldiers and bloodbends them, killing them on the spot. At this point Anya is old enough and has seen enough to not be horribly traumatized by it, but it takes a devastating emotional toll on Twilight, who had vowed that the one thing he'd never do again is bloodbend.
As Anya sleeps that night, Twilight begs Yor to kill him while he's in the avatar state so that their torture can all end. Yor refuses, he tells her that she'd promised him, and she says they still have a choice to live and forgive and move on, and that he only did what he needed to do to protect them. That same night, through their protected emergency radio, they receive a transmission from no other than teenage Damian Desmond. He says that his brother had run away and eloped with his earthbending girlfriend (whom Donovan most certainly did not approve of given the situation) a couple years ago, and she gave birth to a healthy baby two days ago. With the avatar still alive, they know the child is safe, and the two young Desmonds are willing to rebel against their father and offer the Forgers a refuge in Westalis.
The Forgers (technically, since they've been through a thousand names and now are on yet another fake name) settle in Westalis under the protection of their supporters. Anya has a proper reunion with Becky, and hugs Damian in thanks for his help and support.
Things slowly, very slowly, calm down. Gradually, instead of fighting with each other over who gets to have control of the avatar, two sides emerge; the one that wants to let the avatar live free as they were meant to be, a connection between spirits and humans, and the other side that still wants to control them. It will sadly never reach the point of the avatar living in total peace, so Twilight, after consulting his previous lives through the avatar state, decides to live his life and then, when it's time, have someone kill him peacefully while he's in the avatar state.
Of course, we never see that, the story would end with the family living together with the promise of a peaceful future and the implication that at the end the avatar cycle would also come to a close.

What benders would the batfam be??
So, here we go with another one of my au thingies for my own au thingie. This time its Atla Themed! (Avatar: The last Airbender for those who don't know)
So when picking a time period of when this would happen, I thought about this quite a bit, I think it would be a couple of avatar cycles after Korra. Technology has progressed to the point where Bruce still does his dark Knight routine.
Okay, here we goooooo!
Alfred: He was a special operative in the Fire Nations army. He is a Fire Bender, and also knows chi blocking. After he retired from the army he was employed by the late Waynes as a butler and bodyguard where they lived in Republic City.
Bruce: Bruce is actually a Non-bender, although this does not mean he is less of a fighter against any bender. He's traveled all over the world and nations learning different styles of fighting. After returning back to his home in Republic City he started going out at knight as a masked vigilante based off of a bat spirit. He uses all the fighting techniques he learned while traveling as well as chi blocking, and technology.
Barbara: She's like Asami in the way that she is very tech savvy. Although she is an Earth Bender, who can use the subskill of Metal Bending. She moved to republic city with her father when he got a job on the police force there. They moved from a village on the edge of the Earth Kingdom, close to the Northern Water Tribe.
Dick: He is an Air Bender and is actually the person who taught Duck the subskill of Flight. His parents were Non-Bending Air Nomads and found their place in Haly's Traveling Circus. The circus was attacked while in Republic City, and not long after Dick was taken under Bruces wing and later adopted. He never got his arrow tattoos.
Jason: Before he died, he was sure that he was a Non-Bender, so he was trained in chi blocking. He was killed and was brought back by the healing waters of Lazarus, brought back as an Earth Bender with use of the subskill Lava Bending. His biological mother was and Earth Bender like him, and his father is from Fire Bender descent. There's the reason he can Lava Bend.
Cass: She is a Water Bender and uses a technique to use water to muffle her footsteps. She was trained in the subskill of Blood Bending while with the League. After joining Bruce, she was taught how to incorporate chi blocking into her fighting style instead of killing people. Her mother, Lady Shiva, is an Air Bender, and this allows her to bend the clouds (yes, they are made of water but also made of air. Only really talented benders or those that have Air Bending ancestry are able to do so. I'll explain more later if ya'll want.) and use them to shroud her presence.
Steph: She is a Non-Bender, this was something her father Cluemaster was not happy about. She took to the streets to fight him and learned chi blocking on her own, and later learned under Barbara and Bruce.
Duke: The Avatar of this time, born in the Earth kingdom. He is able to bend all four elements and also utilizes the subskills of flight and Spiritual projection from Airbending.
Tim: He is a Fire Bender, one of the few things he gets from his father. Along with his intelligence he also uses the subskill Lightning Bending, which he uses through his bo staff when fighting with it. he also learned chi blocking. As a result of his mothers Water Bending heritage he is able to make cold flames that people can walk through.
Trace: They are a Water Bender, from their mother's side of their family. Janet Drake wasn't a Water Bender like Jack Drake was a Fire Bender though. She discovered her ability for the subskill of healing after a nasty fight with a Non-Bender called the Joker landed some really bad hits on the people involved. They are able to heat their water to unbearable degrees because of their fathers Fire Bending. They are also trained in chi blocking
Damian: He is a Fire Bender, from his mother as Bruce is a Non-Bender. While raised in the League he was taught chi blocking as well as Lightning Bending. He was forced to try and learn the subskills of Lava Bending and Metal Bending. He was unable to Lava Bend but showed an ability for Metal Bending. He hasn't been able to hone his Metal Bending as of late, and is reluctantly learning more about Lightning Bending from Tim.

The Legend of Korra isn't a bad show, but when compared to Avatar, it's definitely weaker in damn near all aspects. That being said, one of the main criticisms of the show is how the original gaang get treated. And the main one I want to talk about is Katara.
I want you to think about the Katara we are introduced to in Avatar. The girl from the Southern Water Tribe who had to take on the maternal role in her family after her mother was murdered. The girl who wasn't scared to stand up for what she believes is right. The girl who was the glue of the original gaang, because you know that they would've fell apart if she wasn't there. The girl who worked her ass off to become a master water bender. The girl who loved her culture, but still respected others. There's more to say, but this is one of those "a thought came to me and I had to put it down" posts.
What kind of future do you see for a girl like that? She would be involved in politics right? She would be seen as a hero along with the original gaang considering that she defeated Azula, right? She would become one of the most important members of the water tribe, considering that she became a master at the age of fourteen and challenged the traditions of the Northern Water Tribe, right? Her children would know about their Water Tribe side, because Katara would be ecstatic to teach them about it, right?
Well, what does LoK do? They give everyone in the gaang a statue except for her (and Suki). We see both Water Tribes and neither has a statue of her. She's not respected as a water bender. Sure, she taught Korra, but think about how Zuko and Toph are treated. Zuko is still fire bending in his eighties, has a whole statue, and is shown respect by members of the new Team Avatar even though he has abdicated from the throne. Toph is still regarded as the best earthbender for creating metalbending, has a whole statue, and helped get the mercury out of Korra's body. But Katara?
In book one, she is unable to bring back Korra's bending. In book four, she is only able to heal Korra to a certain extent because of the PTSD that Korra is suffering. She is basically used to show the severity of the actions. We are told that Katara is one of the best, so if she can't heal it, it must be impossible! We see Bolin fanboying over Zuko and Toph, but not Katara. She has no statues. And then her family life.
Tenzin is completely removed from half of his lineage, completely embracing the Air Nomad way of life. The relationship he has with Katara feels very strained too, especially compared to Kya and Bumi. We know that Tenzin spent more time with Aang and since he was expected to be the next leader of the Air Nomads, it makes sense that he would throw himself completely into that part of him and reject the Water Tribe part. Kya, on the other hand, seems to have more balance with her Air Nomad and Water Tribe sides. We see her meditate and she seems to know certain aspects of the Air Nomad culture, even though she is more connected to her Water Tribe side due to being a water bender. Bumi seems almost completely removed from each side though.
Sokka gets a statue, Aang gets a statue, Toph has a statue, Zuko has a statue, but Katara doesn't? Not even in the Southern Water Tribe, where she was canonically known as the last water bender of her tribe? Sokka is involved with politics, being the chairman of the United Republic Council. Aang was the literal Avatar. Zuko was the fire lord who led the Fire Nation after the hundred year war ended. Toph becomes a cop for some reason. But Katara? We get no hints of her being involved with politics in LoK except for that throwaway about her helping to outlaw blood bending. We see Bolin fanboyinf when meeting Toph and Zuko, but not with Katara. What is Katara in LoK?

When I visit my family I sometimes get to sit and watch Avatar the last air bender with my little brother and of course as I have consumed media that's my ocs problem now, so gonna make a list under the readmore of what kind of benders my two ocs would probably be lmao, feel free to rb with your bending headcanons for your twos
Axel: probably fire bender, could've been an air bender once when he was a mew but the manipulation of air combined with his pain and anger turned to heat became fire and he lost his airbending entirely for flames though he still uses air bending movements and techniques as that's what he learnt making his fire bending unique. Honestly could've been a candidate for the next avatar before his state was altered allowing him to pass on the genetics for different bending cause lmao his offspring probably shouldn't have different bending abilities but this is for me
Proto: non bender I think incredibly skilled with bladed weapons tho to make up for lack of elemental ability and pretty good at making up for his lack of bending, get bucket of water thrown at u idiot firebender ect. Probably pretty good at sensing seeing and contacting spirits
Scribe: Earth bender I can see him specialising in crystal formations and growth much like how the Unown cause all those funky crystal structures in their respective movie, kind of stunted power wise due to trauma has to only use one type of mineral at a time can't be messy can't mix dirt types can't hybridise crystals. He'll get over this in time, he's just been traumatised by his upbringing
Dusty: Plant bender, I know that's not canon probably spirit world gift specialises in the care and structural manipulation of plant matter and fibre maybe a weird earth bending subspecies he make vines grow cause brrrr, helps probably restore life to areas that have been devastated by natural fire or war
Darkness: Fire bending specialises in lightning bending using it with great satisfaction and joy to it's power and destruction, I'm pretty sure lightning is by mixing water bending moves so likely accidentally taught how to do it by May
May: Water bender however likely very traumatised so can't/won't use her bending it's locked in a sense. Can blood bend in a other worldly state under the full moon if necessary, possibly related to her trauma not sure. Will sit in water and gently holding water in her palms it brings comfort
Matt: Air bender, adapted to using the rest of his body to control summon and move air as no arms using his legs and such to move and channel air into attacks and just generally, could probably create air flows from his limbs once in more control like that water bender in LOK, more flowy movements again taught by May
Imp: Water bending gentle and flowing especially good at water healing and probably spends so much time in the water you wouldn't believe surrounding herself in it for travelling ect a constant secure pressure security blanket, can probably pull some Lapis Lazuli shit summoning water to completely surround and enlarge her form into a giant watery mecha looming over enemy ships like a horrific water deity "you should have left when I showed mercy." before rushing them capsizing them the water wrapping around and cradling dragging them down to a watery grave
MIA: Ice bending, freezes all water she works with due to her steely way and tense manner of bending it tenses and solidifies the water molecules into a frozen state sending deadly icicles and walls of ice to harm enemies. As she deals with her traumas of being forced to rely purely on herself she's able to start making snow rather than cold bitter ice, creating snow flakes that float down melting, flowing the water back up to refreeze it and repeat in therapeutic repeation
AI: Mud/Earth bending, learns the water bending techniques first but could never command water but finding wet mud would move mastering a flowy version of Earth bending first much like how Korra manipulates metal like water, would find the proper earth bending techniques later to achieve more advanced bending but her water bending training will always have an impact on her bending

Hi. I hope you are doing well. Can I please put in a devil fruit request? I have always wanted to do a water fruit (which seems stupid since water is a devil fruit’s arch enemy). The user could still be unable to swim like other users. It could be similar to water bending in avatar the last air bender. But one thing I know that is needed is the ability to cancel out other Devil fruit powers (since water is the weakness of Devil fruits). I feel like it would be on par with the mera mera no mi or the ope ope no mi. I’m not sure if any of that makes any sense. But I can’t wait to see what you do. Thank you! 🧡😊
No devil fruit is a stupid devil fruit! Look at all the ones I've made! Do any of those seem stupid? OP maybe, but not stupid! There's literally a guy in the anime (I only know about it vaguely) who's entire power is just wind blades. Nothing else. Just blades made of wind. Also! I made this using what I know of water, or what I think I know of water and its various properties, as well as working from some of the ideas from avatar and water benders. If you want more after reading this, let me know and I'll see if I can't come up with more, or if you don't like it, I can try and rework it, just let me know. That being said, I hope you like what I came up with.
So a water fruit (Mizu Mizu no mi/water water fruit) so we’re gonna make this into 2 different fruits (under the same name for sake of ease). One is logia, the other is paramecia.
The paramecia one is the one that’s (kind of) like water benders. You have the ability to manipulate water. Without practice, it’s not much water, just small amounts or small things. I hate equating this to water benders but kind of like how Katara is. She starts with small water whips and such, but moves on to huge shit like freaking tidal waves! For the sake of not making this too op, no bending water in the body, no blood bending bs, no manipulating water in plants, otherwise you have too much control over people and things. That being said, you’re still a devil fruit user’s worst nightmare. You can literally trap them in a sphere of water and take away their power! Especially fruits like the mera mera no mi. Luffy can stretch and sort of get out, Crocodile can… absorb the water through weird sand powers or something. But the mera mera no mi is fire, what happens when you put water on a fire? Not including grease fires, NEVER PUT WATER ON A GREASE FIRE! Powers would include water weaponry like whips, though no cutting weaponry. While water can be used for cutting, it takes particularly high pressures to do so (as far as I understand). That being said, you can create a certain amount of pressure by focusing a large amount of water through a small exit point. Like a water gun or putting your thumb over a hose, you make the exit point smaller but the same amount of water wants to escape, creating a higher pressure (again, to the best of my understanding). While water can be healing in certain situations, I’d keep it to a minimum, water can help with burns, relax the body, and ease muscle pain, but water can’t inherently heal cuts, mend stab wounds, or any of that. I’d also allow for some heat change in the ability, but nothing too drastic. There’s an ice ice fruit already, so allowing the water fruit to create ice with ease is kind of encroaching on that. You can make that water warm or cold, even hot or near freezing, but not steam or ice kind of thing. At full awakened power, you can create huge whirlpools or things like the knock up stream. Huge forces that are devistating and powerful. You could seriously whirlpool an entire ship to the bottom of the ocean! Provided it isn’t an insanely massive ship. Speaking of the bottom of the ocean! Anyone who’s past the 2 year time skip remembers the Sunny going underwater. This is another area where this devil fruit power would excel. You can’t make the air in the bubble last longer or anything, but depending on your level of practice and ability, you can influence the water currents, nothing like creating your own underwater current, but making the current move faster or slower. On top of that, the element necessary for your abilities is right there! Uninvited guest? Whoosh! Water into the bubble, grabs them, then leaves the bubble! Bubble looks like it’s about to pop? Well, if you’re strong enough, you could basically force the water to stay in place and not let the air out. I mean, it would take a lot of effort, especially if you’re moving, but you can.
Logia version! Most of the powers are the same with a few exceptions. The first and most obvious power, you are water. Being made of water allows you some things that any logia does. Weaponry without haki? Nice try! Wanna get through bars? Who’s going to stop you? You’re water, water doesn’t have a specific form like human bodies. You can literally slip right between them. Obviously, you’re still weak to water, but that has a secondary weakness. You’re made of water, if you enter a large body of water while in water form (yes, this has a water form), you don’t just get weak, you die! The water that you’re made up of disperses throughout the body of water, your form is lost and you’re dead! Like adding food coloring to a glass of water, if you drop it on a counter, it’s a bubble of coloring, if you drop it into the water, it disperses throughout the water. While you don’t suffer from the effects of dehydration, that doesn’t mean they don’t effect you if pushed far enough. I once again bring up Crocodile, his sand powers allow him to absorb water, if he absorbs water from your arm… well… This allows me to bring in another ability. Regeneration. Let’s say Crocodile absorbs your entire arm, but oh look! There’s a pool right next to you! You can take some of the water from that pool and bam! New arm! Because again, you’re made of water! I debated this next power, so I’ll leave it up to whoever uses it, but adding or subtracting water from yourself. This kind of goes hand in hand with the whole regeneration thing but to a different degree. You can add more water to yourself and since you’re made of water and what not, it can change your shape. You wanna be curvier and thicker? Just absorb more water, move it to the correct areas, and now you’re nice and shapely. Wanna be thinner? Just take water out. Taller? Shorter? Same thing. However, this has its limits. If you’re 5 or 6 feet tall, you can’t add enough water until you’re Whitebeard’s height of over 21’10” (666 Cm). Similarly, if you’re 10+ ft, (304+ cm), you can’t shrink down to 5 ft. As with the paramecia devil fruit, you can control water to a degree, but it’s a bit different. You can turn your entire arm into a water whip, or you can control the nearby water and make it into a weapon. Like with the paramecia, you can do all that cool healing stuff, but again, nothing too drastic, and you can cancel out powers because again, water, but in this case, let’s say you’re out of water to cancel someone’s powers out, oh wait, you are water! I headcanon that while logia are the strongest powers untrained, paramecia are the strongest after training (personal headcanon), therefore, the logia version of this doesn’t get the cool whirlpool powers at awakening or the knockup stream level of power. You can take water out of the air though. And just because you don’t get the cool whirlpool powers, doesn’t mean that you don’t get super powerful. At full awakened power, you can still create whirlpools, still create tidal waves, and all that fun stuff, you just can’t sink a good sized ship with it. At full awakened power, you can pull water from the air and your attacks are, of course, stronger. Also, at full awakened power, you don’t immediately die if you get tossed into the ocean while in full water form. You have a few seconds to ‘pull yourself together’ and return to your regular form so you don’t die. As I mentioned earlier, you have a water form. This is exactly what it sounds like, it’s you but as water. The water looks like water but it retains your original shape. Almost as if the water was being held in a you shaped container. While normally you can only slip between bars and such, in this form, you can fit through cracks or (ugh) drains. You can use your entire body as a weapon in some form or another. In some sense, you’re kind of like Buggy, if part of you is touching the ground, you can basically fly. You can have a single cm of water touching the ground, attached to a thin stream of water, attached to the rest of you which is 20 ft off the ground!
That's all I have for now, enjoy!

Random water bender I drew once
Tumblr media
And yes, before you ask, I don't know how to draw water AT ALL. It might as well be slime or sth XD.
Also: What's the most op Avatar-the last Airbender element and why is it water?
Serious though, most people don't seem to understand the full potential water bending has. It has ALL the advantages and no disadvantage.
Disadvantages:
...
Most of the advantages can only be used if you're a skilled water bender, I guess...
Advantages:
Healing (an ability that none of the other benders poses)
Stop yourself and others from bleeding to death because of fatal wounds (by blood bending)
Get any kind of poison or penetrative objects (such as bullets) out of your system (by blood bending)
Create your own weapons and shields/armor out of ice (and that stuff can be hard af, almost like stone)
Cut through anything if put under enough pressure (yes, even stone and metal, as shown in the show)
Get to basically anything that isn't water proofed (by bending water in a way that opens for example a lock)
Fast travel by ice skating
Obstacles can be easily moved (by putting ice under it) or heck, even destroyed (think about stones and glass bottles filled with water and then you freeze them)
Obstacles can be simply avoided (by creating your own path around it)
Trapping opponents by freezing them in ice, which even works against skilled fire benders (think about the Agni Kai/fight between Katara and Azula at the end of the show)
Underwater breathing, by forming an air bubble around their head (I guess theoretically they could also bend the water in a way that would pull all of the oxygen around them, basically becoming "water bender fish")
Water can be found literally anywhere. From air, to plants, to animals (including humans) to even astroids in space. And it doesn't even matter in which state the water is in, since we saw that benders can change the state of water at will during the show plenty of times. Heck, you could put a water bender into fire nation territory without any obvious water surroundeding them and they'd still be the one with a high adventage. Why? Because to water benders, humans are nothing more than walking, talking, water buckets. You can literally use any bodily fluids for bending. And we tend to have a lot of them (around 60%/39 liters).
And on top of all of that they get a power boost every full moon, as if they weren't op enough already
And those are just the things I could think about from the get go. Be more creative when it comes to abilities, guy! Think outside of the box!
Feel free to add any other dis-/advantages of water bending, as well as arguments for another element being the most op one if you're opinion differs from mine. :)
For more discussions, reviews as well as other original stories and more, check out my master list of series.

I finally started watching Legend of Korra. Just finished Book 1.
It was ok? Even though ATLA is one of my favorite shows of all time, I’ve never been super interested in watching LOK, mostly because the more modern, urban setting doesn’t appeal to me per say. But I needed to watch something while feeding my newborn, so here we go! Finally doing it.
Random thoughts:
I like Korra. We love a nice, impulsive hothead. They were smart to make her so different from Aang.
I’m meh on the rest of Team Avatar so far? I was warming to Mako before he got pulled into the love triangles (because who can resist a broody firebender). Bolin I wanted to like but I find him a bit annoying so far. Asami had a few nice moments but was also injured by the love triangle. This is rough because the ATLA characters were just so lovable, even very minor ones.
I am warming up to the older characters. Tenzin grew on me. He had me when he was getting all annoyed a probending refs. (Side note, but if Aang were around he would totally be giving Tenzin a hard time over bending too serious for probending - Aang in center the air scooter, he loved games, he would have probably liked bending games.) Lin is gruff but who doesn’t love gruff? She reminds me of early Murphy from Dresden Files but in a good way.
Given that ATLA had airships and tanks, the fact that there are cars and airplanes isn’t that weird. But it does feel a little weird.
A bender vs non-bender conflict could have been very interesting, but it wasn’t well done and the escalation made no sense. Might expand on this. I have lots of notes for how this could have been improved.
The pacing and the tension of the season wasn’t bad. It just… there were missed opportunities.
Amon’s mask was cool though. He wasn’t bad as a villain.
Tarrlok too. I guess I enjoyed the villains more than her heroes, hmm. His last scenes got to me.
I am so annoyed that season one is about learning airbending, but we spend way more time on pro-bending. It’s basically ignored until the last episode.
Same for the spiritual stuff, which… makes the last scenes interesting.
Like I said… I have notes.
Probending is kinda boring. I can think of way more interesting bending sports. I wanted to like it. But every time it was featured, I just thought about earth rumbles and Agni Kai’s and Katara encasing Azula in ice… we could have such a cooler bending sport.
Tenzin’s kids should be way older. He waited until later in life to have kids, which is a bold move for the last airbender. (But whatever, these are the people who said Roku is Zuko’s great grandfather which makes no sense mathematically.)
I don’t like Tenzin or adult Aang’s beards. Just not a fan.
Katara’s alive. Aang, Sokka, and Toph appeared in flashbacks. Zuko is the only one we didn’t see. But we did get his grandson! Who is around the age Tenzin’s kids should probably be.
I noticed in the avatar wiki that Jinora’s (and all the air kids) ethnicity is listed as Air Nomad and Water Tribe. But they have a mother! And she does not look very water tribe. So I submit to you my first head cannon: Pema has both earth kingdom and fire nation ethnicity. Meaning Aang’s grandchild have the blood of all four elements.

Review Everything 43 - Avatar The Last Airbender 2024
Tumblr media
I have a thing about adaptations.
If you're making visual media based on a book there's merit in doing your best to recreate the story as faithfully as possible. It's going to feel and look new because a book isn't a visual format. So even if you quote lines word for word and have shots set up exactly the way the book describes them, the visual format thing you're making is still new, because it isn't a book.
You've given me a reason to come and watch the visual media instead of reading the book again instead. The visual thing is gonna be a new experience, reading the book again would be enjoyable, but not new.
Now, if you're adapting something that's already a visual media thing into a different visual media thing... What's the reason for me to watch that? Especially if the thing you're adapting is so well written and beautiful to look at that it's enjoyable to revisit?
Is your reason an all star cast? Because that's not a draw for me personally. Is the reason that it's live action instead of a cartoon? I'd argue that most fantasy stories are better told as a cartoon, especially if, as in the case of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the story was created to be told as a cartoon. There's lots of stuff that works as a cartoon that's goofy or distracting in live action. How much of that is gonna plague your adaptation?
Cause listen, one guy already tried this. And it was a disaster.
Tumblr media
Now I want to clarify my thing a little. I genuinely think Shyamalan was on the right track with some of the decisions he made. If you're gonna adapt something ADAPT it. Give me a reason to watch this instead of re-watching the cartoon again.
However. Don't change shit like the pronunciation of the main character's name. Don't make Bending look MORE goofy then someone Hung Gar-ing rocks at you already looks. Don't take a climatic fight with a giant kaiju born of a character's sacrifice of self and turn it into a wave of water that makes the character sleepy to summon.
For instance, the one thing I think the 2010 Avatar movie got right was changing the fire Bending. Every other Bender has to have their element with them or else be deprived of their bending. The first two times we have that rule broken, with Toph and Katara, Toph invents a new kind of earth Bending and blood Bending is treated as horrific. Fire Benders can somehow always bend fire? The two explanations you get for this in the fandom are usually "they're getting fire from the sun" or "they're getting fire from their body heat". Okay, sure. How do the fire benders Bend fire when they're underground with only non-Sun light sources then? How come water benders can't just get water from the air as long as there's moonlight? How come using their own body heat doesn't appear to be detrimental? It's not a huge issue, granted, but I thought 2010 Avatar's answer of, "Well they can't they need to have fire around." Was interesting! That's new! There's all kinds of cool story telling opportunity there!
All this to say I WANT to see changes with new adaptations. If I wanted to watch the same thing over and over again I would go back to the objectively better version of the story and just re-watch the original cartoon. But I want the changes to be made with story telling and forethought in mind.
My biggest complaint with Avatar 2024 is that Katara and Sokka have been flattened. Many of their character flaws have been smoothed away to make them more palatable to what the creators perceive is their... IDK how to say this. Sensitive? Socially aware? Audience. It feels like some of their statements, particularly the removal of Sokka's sexism, reflect this trend that I've been seeing in a lot of media which is that "your fave shouldn't be problematic." But like, yes they should? If you want to have a character that is a paragon of virtues make them work to get there. Without Sokka's sexism his treatment of Katara in the first few episodes just makes him seem like a spoiled brat without any reason for him to be that way, and as the show goes on and he starts to pick up skills which come to define him as a character it makes him feel a bit like a Gary Stu, for lack of a better term. Like, a big part of Katara and Sokka's dynamic in the early part of the show is Katara being strong and brave and capable and Sokka scoffing and saying, "But girls aren't that so whenever you're done with this delusion let me know." This also makes Katara determined to prove to Sokka, and the world, that she is strong, though it makes her a bit of a reactive hot head, which she has to figure out how to deal with. And then Sokka has his ass handed to him by several by powerful women, one of whom he has more incentive to be as likeable as possible to, Suki. Katara's big moment in the Southern Water Tribe vs Fire Nation battle where she shows master Pakku that she's a very capable fighter shows Sokka that not only is Katara worthy, but seeing Yue's selfless act, added to his time with Suki, Sokka starts to see that woman are just as worthy as men are. And Katra starts to learn that she can't Bend her way out of all her problems. AND THAT'S GOOD SHIT. There are hints of that in Avatar 2024, but I think they're really only there because I expect them to be and know what to look for.
Also, taking away Aang's fear of fire bending because he never accidentally burns Katara is... a choice. One I don't understand.
There were plenty of decisions like that that made me raise my eyebrows, but there were plenty of them that also actually made me really enjoy the show.
So because the internet is full, I'm sure, of lists of what makes Avatar 2024 bad, here's some stuff I liked. Not stuff that I think the cartoon should have done, I honestly would have a hard time coming up with ways to change that show for the better, but stuff that I thought made making a new thing worth it, new stuff.
The chronology change: Confronting us with the Fire Nation's atrocities right at the beginning was interesting. Many [most?] of the people watching this are fans of the original, and while the cartoon makes us wait for the reveal of who killed the air benders, the show gives it to us right away. We already know its coming so making it a brutal reminder of why the story happens instead of a not surprising reveal later did the show well. Some of the other shuffling, like the Secret Tunnel stuff was good too.
Avatar Kyoshi: I'm gonna treat this as with cautious optimism as a good change. Yes, it's a translation of a thing that happens in the cartoon, but previous Avatars being able to swap in for the current Avatar? That's a super interesting concept. The scene where Aang begs Kuruk to take over his physical form but there being story reasons that doesn't work? And Aang being delivered visions of the future that "have to" come true? I wanna know if he'll get a vision about killing the Fire Lord and then go on that big ol quest to figure out how to not do that again and how a vision of a "have to" future might change that element of the story. So many cool possibilities with this which I hope they take advantage of in the future.
Bumi: I think he's perfect in the cartoon. I don't think that would have worked for live action. I think the translation of him to this story is also a perfect interpretation of the character. I wish they had foreshadowed him a little better, or just told us he was coming like in the cartoon, but other than that I really like how they handled Bumi.
Zuko: Dialing up his whiny bratiude works. I've seen many people complain about the actor's delivery of his lines but I think the casting and acting for Zuko is great. Dallas Liu is doing a good job. I liked giving him a little more agency in the Agni Kai too. He's trying so hard, which is a super important element of his character!
Uncle Iroh: You can't beat Mako, you just can't. Paul Sun-Hyung Lee though? A perfect fit for this version of the character.
Avatar Roku: I like making him a bit of a goofball, it helps separate him from what the Fire Nation is doing. There's no reason he can't be a little silly so that Aang can relate better to him and also be a stoic, calming presence for the young Avatar when he needs that later, too.
Every actor seems to be loving getting the chance to be in Avatar. At least all of the adults are very capable and acting their fricking pants off, and their drive makes a lot of the show super enjoyable to experience.
Could this have been done better? Yeah, sure. Was it done pretty good? Yup! And, to me, most of media is just "good" or "pretty good". I think if these folks can get their feet under them and understand their main characters a little better then I don't see any reason season 2 couldn't be even better. I like Avatar, I've been a fan since it was first on TV. I've seen both cartoons, the Movie, read some of the comics, and now watched this show. My text tone was "My Cabbages!" for years. I like this world and, so long as the stuff coming from it continues to be creative and have new ideas I would love more from it. I look at the future of Avatar with cautious optimism. I am just as weary of an Avatar story set in "modern day" as I am a live action adaptation of the rest of the show. I hope both the original creators and the folks involved in the live action adaptation treat the series with all the love the fans have for it. This world deserves it, as do the fans who've stuck around for 18 years.
In Summary: My expectations were at ROCK BOTTOM. But they didn't need to be.
Overall: 6/10

Love Conquers All
Zuko x Male Reader
Word Count: 1856
-------------
Y/n could understand where Zuko was coming from, but he knew he wouldn't be surprised if it didn't go as well as he had perhaps envisioned.
It was all very well and good that he had finally found his way, but he had hurt the Avatars group a fair bit before finding his way. Y/n also knew that as someone who had been a part of Zuko's attempts to hurt them, he had no leg to stand on in helping smooth the situation over. He hadn't been as single-minded in his focus on capturing the Avatar, but he had only cared because Zuko cared.
He didn't think that would matter to them, but then, Y/n didn't particularly care one way or the other how they felt about him. The only person who mattered to him was Zuko. Well, and Iroh, but that was a given of anyone who had met the calm old man.
When they made it to the kids campsite Y/n hung back, staying by the exit. It wasn't that he didn't trust them not to ambush him and Zuko, oh wait, it was that. Never mind.
Y/n watched the exchange carefully. He could feel it in the air mere seconds before she struck.
Faster than their eyes could follow, Y/n moved. By the time that everyone had caught up with the events, Y/n was standing in front of Zuko, sheathing his sword after having deflected Katara's water whip.
Silence reigned for a single heartbeat. Then Katara shrieked in outrage.
"How dare you!"
Y/n was sure she was still speaking, but he had a habit of being selectively deaf when it most benefited him.
And then, with almost no warning she was throwing water at him with increasingly wild movements.
It was no match for Y/n's technique.
It wasn't common knowledge, in fact, he had hidden it for most of his life, but Y/n was an airbender.
Yeah, literally the biggest lie in their world was that there were no more airbenders. The Air Nomads had had the practice of removing non-benders from their society and giving them to the other kingdoms.
What they didn't know was that all it took was for the right circumstances to happen and suddenly you had airbenders in the descendants of those non-benders.
It didn't change much ultimately, they were so few that they wouldn't ever be considered a threat to anyone, not that the Air Nomads had been when the Fire Nation had attacked them a hundred years ago.
What it all came down to, was a confused child suddenly developing powers that no one was able to control anymore.
Luckily for Y/n, the only person who had been around the first time he had bended was Zuko. As secrets tend to do, it had bound the two closer together than anyone would have thought ever since that day.
It was a loyalty that had seen Y/n stowing away on the ship Zuko had been banished on, and one that had been returned by Zuko had never once considered that the apparently Fire Nation child could be the reborn Avatar.
What it came down to, was that Katara was having no luck besting Y/n. Much as he wanted to put her in her place properly, Y/n knew that what they were trying to accomplish here would be hurt by that. From the looks of things though, they might have lost that chance.
Y/n stayed on the defensive, letting her tire herself out instead of outright attacking. He was worried about the look the Avatar was giving him though. That wide eyed expression couldn't mean anything good for his secret. He had always known that it would come out eventually, but he had hoped it would last longer than this dammit!
"Katara stop!"
The kid was trying to get in between then now, but the water tribe girl was apparently past the point of caring. She was just not backing down.
"Wait, I wanna talk to him!"
"No! They need to get out of here and never come back!"
Y/n was sure that her words might have been more intimidating if she weren't so clearly out of her league. He decided to ignore the voice in the back of his head that whispered that if he had used even half of his abilities properly before this they might have caught the Avatar long ago.
The element of surprise couldn't be taken for granted after all, and judging from the kid's reaction just now, all they would have had to do was show him Y/n's powers and he probably would have stayed on the ship that first day.
Y/n pulled himself out of his thoughts with a shrug. It was a bit late for that right now.
The Avatar had managed to get between Y/n and Katara, and seemed to be trying to talk her down from her rage. Y/n watched, only mildly interested. This wasn't how he had thought today would go.
He turned to Zuko, who was still standing behind him.
"Are you okay?"
He just looked Y/n over, head to toe looking for injuries.
"I'm fine, but are you sure it was a good idea to show them that? I could have taken a few hits. I've had worse before, you know that."
Y/n clenched his jaw at the reminder.
"I know. I'm sorry. You know how I feel about you willingly putting yourself in danger though. You didn't even try to defend yourself. Don't think I didn't spot that."
Y/n leveled a flat stare at Zuko.
He at least had the good grace to blush in shame and hide behind his fringe.
Y/n turned back to the group of kids gathered in front of them.
He gave them his best blank stare. He had nothing more to say to them, this was about Zuko teaching the Avatar firebending after all.
Besides, he was sure that anything he said would be twisted around and spat back at him by the water tribe girl.
"You're an airbender!"
Y/n refused to give up his secret that easily.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
The little blind girl perked up.
"You're lying. You are an airbender? I thought they were all wiped out."
Y/n stubbornly refused to respond. He could see the water tribe girl's eye narrow at his silence. She was just about to explode on him again when Y/n felt a shift in the air. Less than a second later he felt Zuko's hand on his shoulder.
He slumped slightly. Damn Zuko's soft heart.
"Yes. I can bend air."
The shout of pure joy that the Avatar let out was enough to make Y/n feel slightly guilty about keeping it from him the whole time he had been after him.
"I'm not alone! There must be more, right? Some of the monks survived and hid right? Please tell me!"
Man, this kid was excitable, and as happy as he was, Y/n didn't want to be the one to tell him that he was wrong. He couldn't take the soft option of letting Zuko tell him though, they would probably turn on the both of them and Zuko wouldn't be able to fulfill his destiny.
"No."
"No you're not going to tell him?"
That girl was really starting to get on Y/n's nerves.
"No, they didn't survive."
That shut her up.
It also made the kid tear up, but there was no point building a lie just to make him feel better in this moment. That would be more cruel than the truth.
"The only reason that I exist right now is because of your ancestors though. Your people had a practice of testing their babies for airbending potential."
The Avatar was nodding along. Good, this wouldn't be a surprise to him.
"Well, when they showed to be non-benders your people gave them away. They were sent off to the other kingdoms, not welcome in, nor considered to be, a part of the Air Nomads."
"Air Nomads are airbenders, so if they aren't airbenders they aren't Air Nomads. That's just the way things are."
Y/n grit his teeth. It was an old hurt, but it still stung. He pulled in a deep breath and the only thing that stopped him from screaming about the injustice of it all was Zuko's hand that was still on his shoulder lending him the strength to continue.
"Your people were wrong. Occasionally their methods would be wrong, and they would let a bender slip away into another kingdom. But more than that, its in our blood, in the thing that makes us who we are. When enough of your ancestors were born from the Air Nomads, no matter whether they could bend themselves or not, you have the possibility to end up as a bender."
The Avatar's jaw was hanging open as he stared in horror at Y/n.
"But, they couldn't possibly have known that! If they had, maybe they wouldn't have done what they did."
Y/n's eyes shone with a dark light. This was something he would ultimately have to give up, but it was worth planting the seed if he could.
"So your saying that the only possible use non-benders have is the possibility of benders being born from them?"
The Avatar stopped cold and stared at Y/n in horror.
"What? No! Of course not!"
"Then what? You had no problem with the idea that they would be thrown away like yesterday's garbage up until now. The only thing that's changed is this piece of information."
Y/n pulled back as he saw the tears form in the Avatar's eyes.
"Think on that for a while. You have a non-bender in your group. Do you consider him to be useless?"
The kids all looked like they had been hit over the head.
Y/n was sure that this would be the end of their interaction for the day.
"We'll come back tomorrow. Maybe then we can talk without resorting to violence."
He turned back to Katara who looked like she was getting ready to unleash whatever thoughts had been happening in that head of hers.
"Before you put your foot in it, consider this. We have two things you want. One you desperately need, the other, something you desperately want. Have a good night."
Zuko turned and walked back the way they had come, with Y/n bringing up the rear. He didn't trust them not to attack them from behind.
Y/n hoped that with the reminder that they needed Zuko to teach the Avatar firebending, they would be more open to meeting the next day. If that weren't enough, then there was the added bonus of Y/n being the only other airbender that they knew. He was sure that the Avatar wouldn't be able to resist the pull to be around someone who was like him for long.
Either way, they still had a long way to go to convince them that they didn't want to hurt them and that this wasn't a trap.
'Oh well,' Y/n thought as he lay sleepily beside their fire, 'things always look better in the morning.'
