one thing that I find really really interesting is that in practically every scene where it's just jiraiya and tsunade alone, kishimoto very deliberately draws at least a panel of the two of them being completely silent in each other's companies, even refusing to look at each other.

why this is important to me is cause I think it's an excellent way on kishi's part to show the dynamic and history between the two of them (and the sannin as a whole too). ((note this isn't a jiratsu post))

the few scenes we get of the two of them talking alone, you always get the impression that there's a secondary, entirely silent conversation going on in the background that only the two of them even know about. a conversation about all the things they cannot say. and he conveys that so well in these deliberate panels. you can SEE in their expressions, in the things that they do say when they choose to break the silence. there's so much between them, so much they yearn to say. and the weight of all of that, the depth of those feelings and emotions, is ultimately what makes them not say anything at all.

because you've known each other since you were SIX years old, you fought WARS together, this is a person you'd put your life on the line for without a second of hesitation. yet. there is a 20 year gap. you haven't spoken with each other for as long as you grew up together too. they've lived an entire lifetime together, but then an entire equally as long lifetime apart. they're the same person they've always been but yet... you can't really recognise the person in front of you. they both can see that they've become shells of the people they used to be. you both have gone through so much, and you know the the other person knows this. you know it so intimately, what things you can say, what things you can't. youre being so careful yet you both know there's this pretense going on.

there's so much left, yet so little. after all of that, what is there even left to be said? what CAN be said? they're already so intimately aware of what the other is thinking, there's nothing new, yet somehow, there's this gap. there's this emptiness that both know they can't really do anything about.

in the end, the sannin are a tragic trio. and kishi does an excellent job of showing this through their stories and histories, sure. but he does an even better job at showing it through their small interactions together. the way they always end up talking about the past, the attempt to bring up happier times (like tsunade trying to reminisce about their genin days as team hiruzen), yet how they ALWAYS come back to ultimately how they fell apart, and the world kept spinning, and all they can do is try to make sure the future doesn't make the same mistakes they did.

what can you even say to someone like that? it must've been so freeing, to have someone that understands them to such an extent. that would know them more than anyone else in the world ever could imagine. and yet. so suffocating. because they're a reminder. a reminder of what you used to be, a reminder of what could've been, a reminder of how everything went wrong, every single mistake you ever made. and so despite the person in front of you being the only person in the world that likely knows exactly how you're feeling, what you're going through, all your experiences, they're also somehow the last person you can ever speak to about any of it. because it becomes like a trap almost. they're constantly reminded of their pasts when they look at each other. how can you ever begin to move on with someone like that right in front of you?

once upon a time, they were the hope of konoha. they were the young shinobi, meant to bring in a new era of peace, meant to be the change. and they wholeheartedly believed this too. and then, to make it to 50, after everything they went through, and realising they were no better off than the generation before them. that everything they ever stood for, ever fought for, were all practically in vain. and how suddenly the people meant to be the change for the future can only hope to make sure there is still even a chance for change for the next generation.

really, what else are they meant to do around each other than continue their little dance or chess game and let the unspoken remain unspoken?

Peridot and Unlearning (Internalized & Externalized) Homophobia

i.e., here's why peridot's redemption arc is partially (a metaphor?) about unlearning homophobia

the title sounds crazy but bear with me here.

let's start off with saying NO, fusion does not = romantic love. that's an age old discourse and it can be so easily solved by stating there are many different forms of love, and sometimes fusion is just for power (which is a form of love in-of itself, albeit fucked; the love for power or toxic love) HOWEVER, in many cases, such as Garnet's, it most certainly is about romantic love. so to keep it as brief as possible, thats what we have in mind in this post. it's gay love okay.

now, let's talk about the scene i just captioned. this is from the episode "too far," which is an episode about developing a crush and accidentally hurting them in the process of trying to impress them. (however you want to look at it, but thats how i interpret it) the fact it starts off with casual homophobia is important, coz it shows peridot still has a lot of prejudices despite recently becoming part of the team, which is full of gay people, undeniably.

peridot's redemption arc is partially about coming to terms with your sexuality, retraining your mind from internalized homophobia after being raised in such a homophobic society/household, and becoming proud of your sexuality / identity.

OBSERVE:

i'm going to try to keep this short, but more under the cut.

IM SO BAD at organizing my words so this post is rly hard to make so im gonna do it like this.

MORE EVIDENCE THAT PERIDOT'S REDEMPTION ARC IS COMING TO TERMS WITH BEING GAY / UNLEARNING HOMOPHOBIA:

being frustrated about joining a lesbian/gay gang

coming from a society where homosexuality is forbidden

telling off your mom by saying youre joining some rebel lesbians/gays to fight her oppressive society

wearing pride flags (stars) everywhere after coming out

looking up to experienced lesbians (Garnet)

the scissoring joke (from "too far." if you know you know)

furthermore, i thought it'd be fair to include peridot learning how to respect how people identify in other ways, such as names / how they prefer to be addressed. this, most of the time, goes hand-in-hand with homophobia.

peridot, narrating: "he also said he wanted me to stop calling him "the" steven." steven: "its just, steven!" peridot: "i told him i'd call him whatever i want!" [hiss] peridot: "he told me that was rude."

i should add she also eventually learns how to respect Garnet's whole deal in the same episode (log date 7 15 2) which was also a huge moment in her unlearning homophobia. which, btw if you dont know or dont remember, Garnet does by comparing herself to peridot's (assuming) gay ship between Percy and Pierre from Camp Pining Hearts, saying she was the optimized version of herself (the reason peridot "ships" them; theyre the best team logically according to her analysis ship chart)

anyways, now the biggest most obvious point is the fact that peridot actually is gay. i've referred to this episode a few times now, but thats becoz it really is a huge point in proving my 'thesis';

in the episode "too far," peridot is shown to get obsessed with impressing amethyst. peridot experiences something they havent yet up until this point: a crush. i mean, you can interpret it as you wish, but thats how i saw it. the butterflies, the obsession with making someone laugh, the fact peridot states amethyst is objectively the best gem of the crystal gems and emphasizes "damaging her standing with the best gem here" with their apology to amethyst after hurting her feelings.

ok so while the au is about enerjak the main character is silver. he returns to his future after helping team fighters rescue mecha sally deroboticize her stop king naugus blah blah. wrap up the preboot threads quickly theyre not the focus. we need silver to go home (somehow). once he returns to his future he finds that the future is different. he recognizes it as similar to the future he encounters in dark mobius, and deduces that the timeline must have changed and enerjak was the cause for the ruined future at this point. while he is very devastated since he believed for almost all his life eliminating the traitor in the freedom fighters would fix everything he stills himself and goes to travel back in time again. (lets say the method he used to go back in the first place was that 2 way chaos control thing from 06) however the state of the future this time is a lot more intact than before, since eggman's takeover was much more destructive to mobius than enerjak's cleansing was (but silver wont know that). because of this, angel island is still intact and floating, although there is no master emerald. instead, the 7 time stones are keeping the island aloft (knuckles used the time stones to destroy little planet and freeze angel island in place but that will be revealed later). silver finds a library similar to the one he found antoine's diary in, but instead he finds locke's journal instead, mixed with assorted documents from haven (which silver won't be able to decipher very well). similar to antoine's diary, the last entry gives silver the information he needs to travel back in time, a description of what happened on the day of his death. and more importantly, the date. without reading any further than locke's description of the weapon to destroy enerjak and his transformation, silver grabs a time stone and warps back in time.

^THATS THE PROLOGUE THE REST ISNT AS DETAILED

silver arrives in the past, on angel island when locke teleports sonic and julie-su there. he's more confident than normal, since he's beaten enerjak before and didn't get the facts wrong this time. however, by the time he arrives to the master emerald shrine, sonic already destroyed the enerjak weapon. silver thinks that he was too late to change history, and angrily tries to immobilize sonic with his psychokinesis. at this point nobody knows who he is, and so while locke, sonic, and julie-su interrogate him and he tries to explain the best he can the destructix slip out of the way like they did in the normal story. after he clears things up, sonic declares that he has a plan to stop knuckles and silver follows him to the emerald. however, he notices finitevus lurking in the shadows while sonic turns super, and recalling how knuckles was turned by a hex on the emerald, silver rushes to grab sonic again at the instant he turns super. since he disrupted the transformation, sonic turns super but is knocked out, lying on the ground (and does not detransform). the feedback strikes silver too, so he's pretty winded. knuckles sees the commotion and goes down to the chamber too, where finitevus commands him to attack silver. they engage in a fight while locke and julie-su check on sonic and finitevus disappears through a warp ring. silver tries using the same tricks he did during the dark mobius fight, but due to the strength of the hex he doesn't do much other than slow enerjak down. meanwhile, super sonic awakes, but is noticably more sinister than normal. (either he changes to an entirely different form due to the hex or hes the evil super sonic from the red emeralds idk which yet) however, he still goes to fight knuckles, knocking silver down. sonic isn't trying to restore knuckles here he just wants to beat him up. silver recuperates with locke and julie-su.

silver asks if locke has a second copy of the weapon or anything similar to which he obviously says no. meanwhile finitevus tells enerjak to teleport super sonic to one of his labs in downunda, and knuckles complies. sonic moves to attack him again, but is stopped by finitevus who has deduced that his hex worked. some way or another (idk yet) he convinces super sonic to ally himself with him, and they go back to the master emerald chamber. immediately, finitevus tells enerjak to KILL locke and for super sonic to fight silver. both comply, and locke dies. no noble sacrifice for him here he just dies. its pretty unceremonious. i bet knuckles would feel bad though. julie-su holds finitevus at gunpoint and tells him to break the curse, pretty desperate at this point. finitevus says the same schpiel of someone sacrificing themselves, and julie-su assumes she'll have to do it but archimedes (hes here too i forgot about him sorry guys) offers to do it instead. however at that moment knuckles (who finitevus told not to interfere when julie-su threatened him) shows up and is all nuh uh. no sacrifices for you. and motions for super sonic to come back. silver is vaguely chasing after him but hes kind of slow. in the meantime, sonic and knuckles use the master emerald to absorb it fully, causing angel island to fall into the ocean. theyve now become twice as powerful, and the blast knocks out julie-su.

silver returns after the trio warped out of there, and not really sure what to do and believing he fucked everything up he brings julie-su to new mobotropolis to ask for help. the freedom fighters (and shadow i guess) are obviously horrified at that. silver tells them that at this point, their best bet is sending him back to his future so he can prevent this from happening. he doesnt say that doing this will probably erase everyone from the timeline.he asks if anyone has a time stone, but nobody knows what those fucking are. he determines that their best best is using chaos control again, and tails mentions that the chaos emeralds are in the special zone. just then, they get word that enerjak has completely decimated new megaopolis and sonic is coming for new mobotropolis next. silver tells everyone to hurry (real fucking helpful silver.) and asks if tails and shadow can accompany him to the special zone. they agree, and enter the special zone through the star posts just moments before super sonic and enerjak attack the city. they do some miscellaneous challenge that doesnt really matter and then return back through the star post portal, where super sonic and knuckles are waiting. they reveal that they saw the portal and deduced who had came through, and wanted to wait before destroying the star posts so they could finish them off too. sonic asks tails and shadow to join them (he doesnt care about silver), since he doesnt really want to fight his friends more than he has to (implied here he didnt kill the freedom fighters or chaotix but their fate is unknown). obviously they refuse and knuckles fires a Beam at them. tails absorbs the energy however, turning into turbo tails and telling silver and shadow to hurry and send him to the future. as the three fight, shadow and silver each grab a chaos emerald and prepare to chaos control. shadow asks what will happen after silver goes back, to which he professes that he doesn't know. they chaos control to make the time portal, and as silver goes through he sees shadow turn into chaos shadow and join the fight before closing the portal behind him. THE END!

As for Tim Drake, Bruce adopted him after Tim's parents had been kidnapped and Batman had been unable to save them from being poisoned, his mother died and his father in a coma. stitched-up and mostly healthy except for the being-dead part spare nin drawn into the seal along with Rin, they really cont lose much. so, with lots of good luck and a shitton of hope, they activate the seal. a few minutes, three very drained children, and a bored Zetsu later, the dead person's heart starts beating. Isobu takes these three overtired and near-dead kids back to Konoha with a lot of THANK THE FUKCING SAGE because nobodys dead (except for the ones Kakashi+co killed) (5/?)

explains a cover story (a la SFU Kurama) to the gate guards to be let in shenanigans ensue. so these three kids are the only ones who know that this rando Kumo nin (i think it was Kumo?) is actually a damn BIJUU IN A HUMAN and are like 'well... we can't really tell anyone...' but Kurama of course can probably sense Isobu being so near and is like 'uh, wtf' and Isobu tracks down Kushina and spills the beans. SHE FEELS LIKE SHE HAS TO. ALSO part of her resolve to kill him is that she feels guilty for leaning on naruto so mcuh and relying on him to fix things, so she wants to deal with this situation for both of them which makes this like. very potently an obligation for her. she is killing him as (in her eyes) a noble act. she's tired bro SHES TIRED!

she drops it because naruto gives her hope that theres another way, not because she shares naruto's refusal to accept that there ISNT another way; she has to be shown what it is (understandably so, narutos route is bonkers insane that boy is unwell.) she has absolutely been put through the wringer BY sasuke more than naruto has (in terms of their own povs; in actuality idk im not commenting on that) and chasing after him feels less like an active choice on her part and more of an obligation to the memory of the old team 7, especially in the tail end of shippuden. and again she doesnt understand why sasuke acted the way that he did like naruto does, so immediately the room for understanding is way more narrow on her end in terms of blaming his circumstances rather than him. so for her to be not really able to stand him and way less quick to drop it all, in comparison to naruto, makes soooo so soosoo much more sense than whatever the fuck happens actually. she should be so mad

WHile I don't have all the thoughts to encompass this episode yet, it was overall really nice! i enjoyed the story overall and while the pacing was meh as always and you could tell where the budget went, the anime introduced really good characters that I really enjoyed. Beginning Gate quartet was so much more intresting to me than Secret Aliens. THe only thing I wish they could have done better is put some more focus on BAT and DH as it is their anime debut. Oh well, I'm happy with what we got anyways.

The otter sipped her lattè, feeling the slight tinge of pain from the still too warm liquid as it crossed her lips.

The cup was placed on her desk to cool as she pulled out her chair and sat down, ready to start prepping for another 7 hours of work before finally heading home. She pulled herself towards the desk only to hear an odd squeak from under her desk.

Janice was quite used to the odd squeak, wether it was from her sneaker shoes, an odd but comfortable part of her otherwise very professional office wear, sliding across the hard stone floor, or her cheap desk chair making its unoiled joints heard. But this squeak had been different, not rubber on stone or plastic on steel. This had been a terrified squeak.

Without a thought, the otter pushed herself back to examine the source of the noise.

It took her a moment to parse what exactly she was looking at. At a glance it could have been mistaken as a group of roaches, but as she stared their shape became more familiar. Three figures, with two arms, two legs, heads with two eyes staring right back at her. Three minuscule figures, two on the left of her right sneaker, one to the left of it sitting on the ground having just barely managed to dodge her sneaker, roughly an inch in height, clad in dark clothing, staring up at her. "Uh-"

Immediately the three scrambled away from her. Instincts kicked in and Janice did the first thing that came to mind and quickly reached for the tiny people. Though they had a few seconds headstart in her confusion, the difference in size made it so the otter could easily snatch them up one by one.

Janice held her clenched fist to her face, examining the three closer. They were three males, a bull, rat and eagle, struggling against her fingers pathetically, squeaking something too high pitched for her to hear. They were clad in dark clothing, looking almost like burglars. She blinked, not believing her eyes for a moment.

She jumped in her seat. Janice looked to her side to see one her desk neighbor, a bookish ferret named Brett, staring intently at her hand. "UH-"

"Woah!" The ferret exclaimed. "Are those tiny bank robbers?" Brett leaned in closer, drawing more squeaks from the fist held tinies. "No way-no way! I've heard about these guys!"

"You h-have?" Janice stammered.

The ferret nodded. "Well, not these guys specifically. But I've been hearing about gangs using size tech to sneak in and out of banks with small valuables to be resized when theyre back out."

She still couldn't believe what she was seeing. "S-so these guys are thieves?" Janice asked. "We should call the cops!"

"Hold on-" Brett said. "They haven't stolen anything yet. The cops might just charge them with trespassing and let them go."

She narrowed her eyes at the downsized burglars. "S-so what should we do with them? Let them go?"

"Or just smoosh them." The ferret suggested.

Janice froze. Frantic squeaks erupted from the tiny intruders who began to push against her fingers with more fervor. She couldn't just crush them, could she?"

"Or-" Brett said with a smirk. "You could keep them."

"Keep them?" She repeated. "What for?"

The ferret smirked wider. "All sorts of things. Fun things. Like having them serve as your personal pedicure team?"

She glared at the ferret. "This isn't some weird kink, is it?"

"It's totally some weird kink." Brett grinned. "Come on, it's way more fun when you get into it."

She could feel the thieves squirm more in her grip. "I-isnt that kind of immoral?"

"I mean- so is robbing a bank." The ferret shrugged. "Hey, could I have one of them?"

"What?" She balked. "What for?"

Brett didn't answer, he just grinned wider.

Her face went red. Janice looked over to the little criminals, they were staring at her almost pleadingly. She couldn't just let them go, could she? "S-sure. Which one do you want?"

"The bull! I like them masculine." Brett quickly reached over to her hand and plucked the bull out, the tiny crook screamed and flailed between the ferrets fingers.

"Wh-" The otter asked as she watched her coworker move the tiny towards his belt. Using a thumb, Brett held open his waistband and quickly plunged the minuscule bull inside. "What are you doing?!"

"Don't judge me." The ferret mused. "I don't want him to get crushed in my pockets...that and it makes me feel huge." He said, adjusting himself in his seat.

Her face was beet red. She could hardly find the words. Janice slowly looked over to the two remaining shrunken bandits in her hand, both had resumed struggling against her fingers.

In a very sudden and quick movement, she moved her hand to her chest and pulled upon her blouse, shoving the two into her bra and closing it up again before anyone had a chance to see feeling the tiny bodies squirm against her breasts as she fumbled the buttons back into position.

"That's the spirit." Brett sighed as he turned his chair towards the from of his cubicle.

Janice only nodded, resisting the urge to bury her face out of embarrassment.

"So." The ferret said softly. "What are you gonna do with then when you get home?"

"I-i don't know." She croaked, feeling the two slide further down as they tried to fight their way out.

"... do you want suggestions?"

She swallowed. "...s-sure."

REEVE is on my screen!!!

Anyway my (not toxic but) Weird trait is because i played Dirge of Cerberus i am DESPERATE for reeve and vincent to somehow interact in Rebirth. It would make No fucking sense. Reeve will only be around as Cait Sith

But i want that old vampire emo berserk man to smash his face with reeve like barbies. I want Reeve blowing up his phone 24/7. I really loved Yuffie SUNSHINE CITY as Vincents partner in Work in dirge of cerberus, reeve chatting with em all the time, that game did something to me by not only putting characters together i NEVER wouldve expected to become a longstanding team, but also making me ridiculously fond of their dynamic. Its like when someone writes a bizarre premise of a crackfic but everyones in characrer and by the end ur like what the fuck happened? Now i ship this??? Well thats ME now. Because of Dirge of Cerberus. I want reeve vincent and yuffie to interact

(Also if you ever play Crisis Core... Genesis and Angeal are like that too. Although they make more sense. But u go into the game going OH okay. Weird they made 2 more overpowered super unique characters - but theyre the ONLY first class soldiers so i guess theyre all special boys like sephiroth. Then u find out theyre CHILDHOOD best friends, both made monsters from birth, families lied - but still not nearly as fucked a backstory as sephiroth sorry buddy - and Genesis is the lookalike of a POP star, and hes a THEATER NERD quoting an eternally unfinished play at his old best friend fellow soldiers and flying with wings and shit. And Angeal loves his old buddy so much he goes to find him. And sephiroths left behind - which IS sad, hes worried too mind you, but even with 2 other first class soldiers experimented on well He was experimented on different... so at least they have Each other. To understand. And anyway you blink and go wait why am I so emotionallh distraught over ANGEAL AND GENESIS i didnt even know them before this!)

i know ive whined about this before but since people are talking about vault start values for GB and brazil and italy and how important they are for the team score now that TF is wide open, its on my mind again:

its fucking ridiculous that vault is scored the way it is, both in terms of d score and the e score

D score issues:

the original open-ended code in 2006 had 10 skills counting for the other 3 events' difficulty scores, and when they brought it down to 8 for 2009-12 the vault SV were never adjusted

they were reduced by 0.4-0.5 after they god rid of the dismount CR on the other events after 2016

but the original ratings relative to expected/average difficulty of entire routines on the other 3 events was never addressed

its an INJUSTICE ! knock them all down by 2 or 3 tenths AGAIN.

E score issues:

it is plainly ridiculous that the same general execution faults on the other 3 events apply at the same value to vault

why is falling on a beam dismount, after an entire 80-90 second routine of 7+ skills, the same deduction as falling on your ass on a vault? or even a low chest or big step on landing, for that matter?

vault is more than just landings, yes i agree, but the landing is literally half of it at least lmao. im too lazy to do the exact breakdown of maximum possible pre-flight and block deductions vs max possible post flight and landing deductions, but i can guarantee that the latter carries much much more weight. especially getting into how pre-flight deductions are very rarely taken at the level they deserve to be for people doing very difficult vaults. (thats not even necessarily the fault of the code i think its mostly just human psychology tbh and the fact that judges arent allowed slo-mo replay video in real time while theyre judging. because if you see a shitty paseka starfish entry in real time and then the post flight is even worse then ur brain is going to hone in on all the faults of the latter and not hammer the former) (especially bad considering that the pre-flight being egregiously bad and the post-flight being super clean, or vice versa, is crazy unlikely)

and my last point, related to the one above, i have to consult the CoP for this [i wont bc this is just a tumblr post im making off the cuff lol] but isnt there a maximum E score deduction you can take on vaults with no major pre-flight deductions (such as a 1 hand block à la skinner) ? if there is then that needs to go away because for all the reasons above that is mathematically fucking stupid

i rest my off-the-cuff case but my bottom line is:

WHYYYY, in a TF that is shaping up to be SO closely contested (in a battle of mediocrity), is this a battle of vault start values? this isnt NCAA where a FTY is a 9.950 and its a question of quarter tenths. and this isnt the former 10.0 elite code where every event was capped at 10 for some semblance of parity.

why, at the end of the day, is vault difficulty STILLLL the difference maker? why has it been literally 16 years since we switched to the open ended system, and 13 years since it went from 10 skills to 8, and we haven't fixed this yet?

and we dont even have stupidly high bars scores to match it like there were in 2007 and 2008 lmao

i guess its just about them (individually speaking), we know they all have a whole team but at the end its about them, what they like, what they can do, schedules we dont know about, like ..we can see its not all about music anymore (not a bad thing, i mean like they have contracts with fashion and stuff) so they have other things going on too

yes, you're right. thats what I wanted to say there. but what i said did it imply that jeongguk was having more promo? if so i want to apologize because that was not what i wanted to say at all. what I wanted to say there is that we already saw that the promos will be different for each member. that from what we've seen so far, we're going to see different things for each member. I think I even mentioned that I really didn't like some things but that its "okay". like for example jimin wanted to have more mvs but that didn't happen. and I really wish that had happened. the little time difference there was between namjoon, jimin and yoongis albums. and i think the same thing looks like it will happen when tae releases his album. i really think there's a big chance that as soon as sevens promo is over bighit will announce taes album. that's all I wanted to say there. I'm so sorry if I implied something completely different from what I really meant to say.
