Something about Ace just draws me in slowly but surely…

When I first saw him in Alabasta I remember thinking oh it’s that greasy man that everyone’s hot over and sure he’s cool but in between his appearances I never thought much about him

Then his clash with Blackbeard was when I got more intrigued because he was so strong and the fight was amazing

Then Marineford happened and although I long knew he wasn’t going to make it, his death still surprised me because I didn’t expect it to happen while he was already getting away. And I didn’t really process his last speech about being loved when it happened cause I was still reeling from him dying but ohman to thank everyone for loving him when he never thought he deserved it?? Ace you deserved the world.

I think Luffy’s grief over him affected me slowly through the series and made me love Ace even more. I just finished Dressrosa and seeing Sabo carrying on Ace’s Fire Fist made me so sad although no one was a better fit. To have to carry your brother’s legacy is such a curse and a blessing.

Then the short ASL brothers flashback at the end of Dressrosa just did it for me. The ASL brothers truly deserved all the happiness in the world but they were robbed. Ahhh what we’d give to have them back together
