My friend keeps asking how much of my dissertation I’ve written and every time I have to say none and it’s eating me alive so it’s for an accountability post!
Project: Masters Thesis Write-UP
Due date: 19th July
Word count: 60 / 15,000
I have my results graphs prepared so I literally just have to put them in in a good order, and then write the background, about the results and then a discussion conclusion 🫠🫠
As an incentive every 1000 words I’m allowed 20 minutes of reading time

Tracking my work hours made me realise that yeah, seeing I only worked 2 hours and spent the rest of the day scrolling this hell app makes me feel shitty. However! It also makes me go hmmm I need to Beat My High Score Tomorrow. So I’m seeing if this can be more widely applicable…

study tracker / sunny evening
03 JUNE 2024 | 86/100 DAYS OF PRODUCTIVITY
BIG NEWS! MY THESIS PROPOSAL GOT APPROVED! i will officially be completing an undergraduate thesis for one of my degrees this upcoming semester, and i am so so excited
otherwise i honestly was feeling pretty burnt out this morning/afternoon, and then the frustration about not being productive wasn't helping me productive, which is a whole fun spiral
didn't so much studying in the afternoon, but at least i answered some emails i had been putting off
got a lot done after dinner though! finally was able to get in the groove after a rough day
also spent some time graphic designing for my volunteer dance program that i'm running this summer
content revised: physics chs 8-9, ochem chs 6-10, 682 anki cards in bio and gen chem

was looking through my camera roll & realized i never posted about this?? but i did a check please theme in my bullet journal back in april & i am still beyond obsessed with how it turned out!
Tumblr media
task list & cover page
Tumblr media
april was all about finishing my fucking thesis (i earned my mfa in stage automation in may) & i used the task list to break down each section of my thesis & make it less intimidating. i still pulled a bitty & had to marathon write most of my thesis within a like 36 hour period. i slept so good once that draft was finished!
Tumblr media
when i started planning this theme, i flipped through the comic & decided pretty quickly i wanted the cover to be this view of faber from 4.25 "faber". i filled the outside with some of my favorite details from throughout the comic, including (clockwise from top left) the "text from chowder: i'm shouting!" from 4.2 "nonstop celly", jack's "oh" moment from 2.17 "graduation", the jack lego (?) figure from 3.1 "wag", dex & nursey's background roach & house bubbles & (i think it's) ransom's "et tu lardo?" bubble from 2.12 "post i: roadie", one of my fave senor bun appearances that didn't make it into a weekly from 1.16 "linemates", & bitty's phone (i don't think there's a specific appearance of bitty's phone that looks like this, at least not that i'm finding in the flip-throughs i've done to write this post. i think i did a lil freehand moment with it, but if anyone happens to find it in the comic, let me know!), as well as my usual little calendar & monthly focuses section
Tumblr media
monthly calendar & habit tracker
Tumblr media
the monthly calendar & playlist is inspired by the smh team roster hanging on the bulletin board in the haus at the beginning of year 2
Tumblr media
the habit tracker features a few other details from 2.1 “moved in”, namely the “haus sweet haus” rug & the sock pinned to the bulletin board. the shopping list bubble is a callback to the “jizz!” speech bubble also pinned to the bulletin board next to the sock
Tumblr media
meal & time trackers
Tumblr media
the breakfast, lunch, & dinner headers are a callback to the hockey puck taped to the bulletin board
Tumblr media
not much to add here, but it’s a great time to mention the “it’s tough but you’re tougher” speech bubble from 4.20 “spotlight on eric bittle” which was the quote i used to decorate my grad cap ❤️
Tumblr media
weekly #1 is modeled after y1 & features my favorite y1 senor bun appearance (1.18 “playoffs - i”) & line (1.8 “checking clinic”)
Tumblr media
weekly #2 is modeled after y2 & features my favorite y2 senor bun (2.10 "shinny") & line (2.4 "hazeapalooza")
Tumblr media
weekly #3 is modeled after y3 & features my favorite y3 senor bun (3.3 "meet the falconers") & line (3.26 "cup v - post")
Tumblr media
weekly #4 is modeled after y4 (the layout of the top panel specifically is modeled after the first panel of 4.16 "christmas in madison - iii" which shows a bunch of the christmas pics/posts from the rest of smh & tater) & features my favorite y4 senor bun (4.17 "senior thesis") & line (also 4.17 "senior thesis"). i has some extra space, so i included some excerpts from bitty's y4 tweets
Tumblr media
camp nanowrimo tracker, before the pen. the left is just a table for tracking time spent on & words written for my thesis & the novel i've been working on forever. my camp nanowrimo goal was to write 1 hour every weekend day & 2 hours every week day, for a grand total of 50 hours, which i am proud to say i achieved! the right is a visual tracker, where each pie was equal to an hour of writing. i included 50 pies for my 50 hour goal. the bubble near the top is from 1.4 "the haus" with 2 footnotes i added; one on "kitchens" that says "word docs", & one on "pies" that says "words". clearly i think i'm very clever lol
Tumblr media
visual tracker, filled in. i surpassed my 50 hour goal with about a week left in the month, & i wanted to include that additional progress on my tracker. once the month was done & i knew how much i needed to add, i made a tip-in (although this might just be a fold-out lol) to tape in. on one side, i included the dialogue bubbles from a panel of 3.19 "keagster"
Tumblr media
on the other side of the tip-in/flip-out, i included jam jars for the additional 10.25 hours of writing i did, plus "it's gonna be two trips" also from 3.19 "keagster"
& that's all the spreads! spreads were done in an archer & olive b5 notebook. supplies include: mildliners in the colors vermillion, dark blue, beige, & gray; a black papermate flair, a white gellyroll pen in size 08, and stabilo pens in gray and brown. oh, & a piece of masking tape, bc i couldn't find any clear tape lol

for writers who will be attempting nanowrimo this year (or writers who just want to write), i published my notion template that i've been using for around two years now. it's super minimal and emphasizes brainstorming, jotting down quick ideas, rearranging scenes/chapters as you write, and constant reminders about your story's thesis. you can get it for free here 🤍🍧🍡
credit: the original word count tracker (which i lightly edited for my template)

Moby Dick Modern AU
Captain Ahab isn't actually a captain but instead a professor in the marine biology department. He does, however, answer to "captain" instead of "professor", and will never call the captain of the ship he is currently on the captain.
Ahab is obsessed with the white whale in that he's been trying to put a GPS tracker on it for years but it always fails someway. Moby Dick is such a distinctive whale, and he really really wants to study it, but it just keeps getting away or moving at the last moment so that the suction cup gps doesn't stick...
The Pequod is a research vessel owned by Ahab's university, Starbuck is the actual captain, but is called the first mate by Ahab because.. Ahab is Ahab. So, the others started calling him that, too.
Ishmael is also a marine biologist by trade however because of his controvertial opinion (whales are fish! most species we consider fish aren't that closely related anyways! it's a description of ecological, not genetic, importance! so whales should be considered fish, too!) he has been largely shunned/considered of no importance in the scientific community. He teaches biology at a highschool instead.
Ishmael is also a trans man. That is also canon to Herman's novel but I need to underline it here bc naming yourself basically "Is-male" is such a funny joke.
Ishmael signs himself up for a research cruise under the guise of not being a biologist but a simple sailor - this ruse is discovered incredibly quickly (it only takes one infodump).
Pip is one of those brilliant kids who skip 5 grades. He's 16 and in the final year of writing his bachelor's thesis. Ahab is his supervisor.
Queequeg is the ship's chief engineer, making him 3rd most important person on the ship (after the captain and first mate; source: my childhood bff's father was one) and also making him a lot of money. The university's usual chief engineer was unavailable and Ishmael was hyped to get his hubby on the same expedition as him.
Speaking of, Ishmael and Queequeg met at a motel in Vegas, got high, cuddled all night, and then got married the next day.
Queequeg usually works on all sort of ships, spending a couple months home with Ishmael and then doing engineering for the next couple months away on the sea.
Tashtego is working on his master's in marine biology and unfortunatelly Ahab's his supervisor same as Pip except Ahab loves Pip's ideas but hates Tashtego's
Daggoo is on a scientific exchange from a university from his home country, he's just a researcher (as in, doesn't study or teach)
Fedallah is there even though he's like. Completely unrelated to marine biology. He's like a professional olympic-level archer but Ahab forged his papers to bring him aboard so that he can finally put that tracker on the Moby Dick.
The rest of the crew are a combo of researchers and regular sailor folk who are, y'know, needed for the ship to function as a ship.
Pip falls into the ocean multiple times while trying to take samples but is saved quickly every time. They just force him to essentially wear buoy marker attached to him at all times in case he was submerged and unseen.

i wanted to start off this week with something productive. ive already gotten into a rough start by waking up late. i should be stricter with myself so that i can get things done on time. a week of productivity should not be followed by a week of the opposite. especially when it's easy to get carried away by relaxation and other leisurely activities.
to start it off, i did some journaling and decided to put a bit more effort into its layout and composition. later when i get back from my haircut, i'm hoping to make even more progress on my thesis.
ik ive been saying this over and over, maybe i should have a visual tracker so that i can see how much it's moving as well as to actually motivate me to finish it off. the revisions are done but because of the changes in my methodology i might have to make changes to the instrument. these are taking quite some time... especially since i'm doing this thesis solo and research isn't exactly my strongest suit.
rant ahead if you want to keep reading
i'm kinda excited to get my haircut, though. i wish i could say i was very excited but i can't enjoy it because of how controlling my parents are abt it.
not to trauma dump on the internet but it's my blog so here goes. my parents are kinda being dumb about me wanting to cut my hair. i initially wanted a bixie cut that was similar to winona ryder's. when i asked my mom (yes, i have to ask permission to cut my hair bc i'm not paying for it and i'm using their money for it), she was quick to make it all about my sexuality (i'm pan). she even ranted to my grandma about it. so i'm getting a layered bob cut instead, but my parents are adamant that i go to this family friend hairdresser so that he can advise me (?) on how to cut and maintain it (??) so that it looks good on the graduation pictures (???????). that threw me off bc the reasons why i want to cut my hair are:
it's flipping hot, my guy, the humidity isn't giving my hair gets so brittle and dry. ik i can just tie my hair up but sometimes i don't want to bc i need it to breathe. but i don't want to have to feel my hair act as a towel, collecting my nape sweat.
i never liked having long hair. it's too much work for me. the constant hair brushing, the longer showers, the long hair drying, and the long strands getting everywhere? i've never been able to properly take care of long hair. i prefer shorter hair bc it's easier to maintain and easier to style. and personally, i think it suits me so much more.
but my parents want me to keep my hair long for a bunch of graduation pictures that i won't even be taking right now since i'm not graduating this year.
and my mom? i don't understand but ever since i came out as pan to her, she never truly made steps to understand what that means. ugh, idk. might make a long post abt this sometime in the future.

overall: i didn't hit my goal, but i'm still pretty pleased with my progress. it was a rather productive writing year and i had a lot of fun and only started one new story, which is remarkable

Summer Study Challenge!
If you’re like me and have a thesis due at the end of this month yet have no motivation whatsoever to complete it - then this is the post for you! I’ve created this vey adaptible and casual summer study challenge to give you an opportunity to set goals, stay motivated, and make significant progress in your academic pursuits during the sunny season (as well as hold myself accountible for my thesis!)
🌟 Setting Goals: Start by setting specific and achievable goals for the summer. What subjects do you want to focus on? Are there specific skills you wish to develop? Whether it's mastering a difficult concept, improving your writing skills, or completing a challenging project, define your objectives to give direction to your summer study journey. My Goal: Completing my Master’s thesis a week before the deadline.
📆 Time Frame: Determine the duration of your Summer Study Challenge. It could be a week, a month, or the entire summer break. Consider your availability, commitments, and the level of intensity you want to dedicate to this challenge. Remember, the key is to find a balance that keeps you engaged and motivated without overwhelming yourself. My Time Frame: July
📚 Choose Your Focus: Select the areas of study you want to prioritize during the challenge. It could be a specific subject, a series of textbooks, or a set of skills you want to master. Ensure your chosen focus aligns with your goals and interests, making your study sessions engaging and rewarding. My Focus: My thesis topic
🗓️ Study Schedule: Create a study schedule that outlines your daily or weekly study sessions. Set aside dedicated blocks of time for studying, reviewing, and completing assignments. Structure your schedule in a way that fits your lifestyle and commitments, and be sure to include breaks for rest and rejuvenation. My Schedule: 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, with Sunday’s free
📌 Track Your Progress: Keep track of your progress throughout the challenge. This can be done using a study journal, a digital tracker, or even a dedicated bullet journal spread. Record completed tasks, milestones achieved, and any insights or reflections you have along the way. Tracking your progress serves as a motivating visual reminder of your accomplishments. My Progress: Tracking each chapter of my thesis that I complete e.g. Intro, State of the Art, Methodology, etc.
🤝 Accountability and Support: Share your participation in the Summer Study Challenge with the studyblr community or a study buddy. Engage in conversations, ask for advice, and offer support to others embarking on their own challenges. Creating a sense of accountability and camaraderie can keep you motivated, inspire new ideas, and provide encouragement during moments of self-doubt. My Accountability: My lovely followers (no pressure guys!)
🌈 Bonus Challenges: Consider incorporating bonus challenges or themes into your study journey. It could involve studying in unique locations, exploring different study techniques, or engaging in interdisciplinary projects. These challenges add a fun and adventurous element to your summer study experience. My Bonus Challenge: Study in at least three places that are not my campus library
🎉 Celebrate Your Achievements: Celebrate your accomplishments throughout the Summer Study Challenge. Recognize and reward yourself for reaching milestones, completing challenging tasks, or making significant progress. Treat yourself to something you enjoy, whether it's a day off, a special meal, or an outing to celebrate your hard work and dedication. My Achievements: Graduating with a master’s degree (I hope!)
Remember, the Summer Study Challenge is about personal growth, self-discovery, and enjoying the process of learning. Embrace the opportunity to expand your knowledge, develop valuable skills, and make lasting memories during this sunny season!

Bullet journal spread with a mini tracker for my holidays and space to annotate bookish stuff since I didn't bring my reading journal along.
03|08|2022
I am finally on holiday, which means doing the bare minimum for my thesis, and just reading and relaxing for the rest of the day. Today it's actually the first day I have been doing some thesis related stuff, by working on some archival sources. I have been keeping up with practicing Irish daily on duolingo, although my internet connection here is terrible. As said my days have been mostly dedicate to reading, so things are going splendidly. I am currently reading It by Stephen King, I am a little over 400 pages in, and I am really into the story. I somehow managed to avoid all spoilers on this story so I have no idea what to expect and I am really excited to go on with it. I am particularly enjoying the friendship these kids have, I am emphasizing with all of them for different resons, I am invested in all characters, and the friendship they have is so pure. The way they support each other so naturally fills my heart with joy. I have also been reading Time Is A Mother by Ocean Vuong. I am reading a couple of poems each day, and I am definitely enjoying my time with it. I have been wanting to get back into poetry for a long time, and I still fill a bit out of place when reading it, but I am so happy to finally get to this goal of mine. Overall I'm having a great time with these books, and you'll surely get to see more updates on my thoughts in the nest few days.

talkin about a revolution by tracy chapman (mostly tracker i love thinking about her going around and changing the world, partially sparked by brennan giving us crumbs abt it in the boys night one shot)
tolerate it by taylor swift / naked in manhattan by chappell roan / i'm your man by mitski / right side of my neck by faye webster / fourth of july by fall out boy
always thinking about those two- truly not going to survive the next 5 months of the season forever thinking abt them
i need you to know. that i dont like. super listen to music i mostly listen to podcasts but i have been listening to the playlist literally religiously its my favorite thing in the world its helped me like get into the mindset for writing them recently.
tracy chapman is so so real and true. also chappell roan holy moses i. i saw her live on halloween and she is applicable to every queer relationship in the world and i love her
