Today I decided I didn't want to set an alarm and I am happy I did that, I got a bit more sleep but I still managed to be productive. In the morning I got done more than I had planned, which makes me very happy. I then went to my brother's for lunch and to spend the afternoon together rewatching the hobbit movies. We watched a movie and a half and we'll finish sometime next week. I am really happy about the fact that lately we have been having these movie afternoons because ever since he moved out we have not been spending a lot of time together and I really missed it. I hope we can make this a sort of an habit to spend more time together like we used to when he was still living here.
today's productivity:
read first thing in the morning
Irish review on duolingo
read and annotated the Merchant Of Venice (I finished the third act so next week I will be able to finish my first reread and move on to other tasks like finding articles to help writing my paper)
started looking for a couple of articles for my paper (and I have yet to find out if I can access them with my uni credentials but that is a next week task)
did a quick monthly set up in my bullet journal to write down all the things I have to do next month (I have to get back into using my bullet journal since I have not been using it for a few months now, and I haven't find the perfect system for this period of my life yet)

End of the Year Book Tag 2023
Tagged by @the---hermit! Thanks friend!!
Are there any books you started this year that you need to finish?
AHAHA yes. Very much yes. I have SO many books that I started this year and need to finish; it's honestly pretty ridiculous. I think the official number is something like...36? So, yea. I'd say of those 36, I only intend to actually finish 4-6 by year's end. (Two of those are textbooks for courses that end in December.) I have a very long list of books that I "need" to finish, but I'm flexible on the timeline.
Do you have an autumnal book to transition into the end of the year?
Not really, no. I've just been doing my best to keep my head above water lately, so I haven't been doing book (read: vibe) planning or, like, conscious book transitions. I suppose I probably should find an autumnal book, though, huh? Would be nice! Cozy vibes are always good. I am writing this now while on break, and I have a bit of time to make that Deliberate Choice of an Autumn Book Selection. (Any suggestions, anyone?)
Is there a new release you're still waiting for?
YES!! Marissa Meyer's With a Little Luck comes out on February 13, 2024. Not this year, so I don't know if that's exactly what this question is asking, BUT I'M VERY EXCITED FOR IT. Ali Hazelwood's Bride is also coming in Feb of next year, Feb 6, and I'm pretty stoked! (I've been reading more romcoms lately, and it shows.) I can't think of any releases I'm waiting for between now and Dec 31, 2023 though.
What are three books you want to read before the end of the year?
I'm still finishing up the 23 books in '23 list. I just finished The Alchemy of Architecture by Ken Tate and Duke Tate (finished literally ten minutes ago lol), but I'm still trying to get to O Pioneers! by Willa Cather, The Lost Art of Reading Nature's Signs by Tristan Gooley, and Beyond the Last Oasis by Ted Edwards. (Planning to update that 23 books in '23 list very, very soon on my studyblr! YAY FOR BREAK AND HAVING TIME!)
Is there a book you think could still shock you and become your favourite book of the year?
I mean, I think if I anticipate the shock, it鈥檚 not really shock anymore, is it? So no. But ALSO, in a less pedantic sense, I think maybe I could really like How Far the Light Reaches by Sabrina Imbler. I've read quite a few good books this year though, so we shall see!
Have you already started making reading plans for next year?
Oh, I鈥檝e got a TBR that could stretch to Mars on TNR size .2 font, babey! The exhaustive list is, as always, available on my Goodreads. I do have specific plans and lists that I'm hoping to enact next year, though, yeah. Of those, I've got the 24 books in 2024 list (tentative, still making decisions about what I'll Officially Include), the Intro to Philosophy list (lots of Nietzsche, Jung, and Plato), the Psychology list (covering all things from neuroanatomy to neurotoxins to cognitive sci), and the Environmental Science list (lots of eco-anxiety fodder). From these lists, I'm particularly looking forward to Your Brain on Art: How the Arts Transform Us by Susan Magsamen and Ivy Ross, Wolf Wilder by Katherine Rundell, Hurricane Lizards and Plastic Squid by Thor Hanson, and The Republic by Plato.

Today felt like a busy day even thoigh it wasn't, mostly because I feel like my energies are all out at the moment. The weather isn't helping at all, with rains and cold that makes it feel like we are in November and then random days in which the sun feels so hot. I did spend the morning rereading and annotating The Merchant Of Venice with the goal of fiding passages that might be helpful with the paper I have to write. I will have to admit my ability to focus wasn't really there so I felt kinda unproductive because I was getting very dustracted. I still managed to get some stuff done so I am happy about that. I then treated myself with the latest tmagp episode, and then in the afternoon a friend came over and we played board games together.

First day of slowly getting back to my studying routine. Today was mostly organizational after my first week of lectures, but I accomplished a few things on my to do list. Tomorrow I will focus on fixing my notes, and maybe start planning everything I have to work on in the next couple of months. I am starting with small steps to get back into the habit and not to go from zero to a hundred and burn myself out again.
some things I did today:
read first thing in the morning
enjoy some good music
planned my to dos for the rest of the week
downloaded a bunch of materials for my class (which is technically a laboratory on modern history)
wrote down the calendar with relevant info for each lecture, and annotated some useful infos for the exam
spent the afternoon with my brother to finish our lotr rewatch and we had such a great time
practiced Irish on duolingo

The new books I got yesterday look so cool. The firat one has a sort of wooden texture to the cover since it's all about stories set in forests, while the second has a hudden picture under the black and white cover.

Today was quite prosuctive, I planned to do more in the afternoon, but I then had a friend call me while having an existential crisis, so I dedicated some time to him to at least try to calm him down a bit. It' scary how all of us somehow feel lost at the same time with the same struggles and het we are convinced we are the only ones to have those fears and thoughts. I plan on ending my day crocheting and then maybe reading a bit if I have enough energies for it.
cozy hobbit autumn activities and productivity:
read first thing in the morning
worked on a couple of recorded lectures
started reading one of the books I have to study for my philosophy class (I think I am more or less half way into it, in one more reading session I should be done with my first read)
continued my tma relistening
crocheted
daily Irish practice on duolingo
today's self care:
took my meds
switched my study enviroiment a bit, doing some reading around the house instead of sitting at my desk
馃摉: Odyssey by Homer, D'Alembert's Dream by Diderot

Reading in the morning + messy desk.
02|01|2024
The struggle to focus while working on the book I have to study for my exam is so real it hurts. Today I was very motivated to do anything but that. I still got something done which is good, and tomorrow I will do my best to try to finish it.
calm hobbit winter:
read first thing in the morning
worked on a couple of posts
practiced Irish on duolingo
started a proper review of all the duolingo units I have done in the past in French (which will be my main focus in the next weeks for getting back my french knowledge goal)
finished reading and highlight the 8th chapter of Nature,Human Nature and Human differences by J. Smith and wrote notes for it
started reading and annotating the last chapter (it's almost done I cannot wait for it to be over)
someone called me "beautiful soul" and that will be my only personality trait for the rest of the day
fixed a couple of spreads in my 2024 reading journal
continued working on my bullet journal spreads (in particular I worked on my goals page and started working on my language learning pages)
worked on a crochet project made with scrap yarn (no idea if something decent will come out of it, we'll see)

Again working today was not planned, but I had to cover my brother's shift, which means that again my study productivity was not what I was hoping for when I planned at the beginning of the week. I did finish the organized draft of the speech for the seminar, but it needs a bit more fixing and practice. I still feel like I did something so that's okay. Tomorrow will be a day to rest and recharge and then next week will hopefully be very productive. I need to get as much reading done for my power practices and men theories book, so that will be the focus of the second half of the week when I won't have to commute to lectures. I am feeling a bit anxious regarding exam season, but I have to stay focused on what I am doing now and not worry about that.
calm hobbit winter activities and productivity:
read first thing in the morning
worked in the morning and started planning ways we could reorganize some things
finished writing down my terrible speech draft for the seminar and tried to practice it a bit, but I need a key word list to do so well enough to time myself and see if it needs fixing so I will do that on Monday and Tuesday after I come home from class
continued my tma relistening
continued crocheting a hat for my mom
daily Irish practice on duolingo
today's self care:
took my supplements and meds
organized my tasks around my very low energy

I finally worked on a general plan of my study to do list for the next couple of months. As usual creating this kind of overview makes me feel way better because I feel like I have a clear idea of what I have to do. I spent the rest of the day reading and then out with my mom exploring old royal residences and birdwatching in a field.

Only Dull People Are Brilliant At Breakfast by Oscar Wilde
I read this collection of quotes a couple of years ago, and ever since I have wanted a physical copy of this book. I decided it was finally time to get one and have a reread. I love Wilde and this collection of quotes feels a lot like a trip into his brain, it got me really motivated to finally pick up The Ballad Of Reading Gaol.

I am still struggling to stay focused while studying, which means that tomorrow will be a full day off in the hopes of getting a bit of rest before my final week of studying.
calm hobbit winter activities and productivity:

daily Irish practice on duolingo
continued to write down the key phrases for each unit I have completed on duolingo (Irish)
continued my first big review of notes for my January exam

Today was my frist day back on my studying routine. I started working on lectures of a class that was recorded last year in the morning, and ended up not studying in the afternoon despite my plan. I simply ended up chatting with my dad and went with the flow ignoring my responsabilities. It might not be the best way to start, but honestly I think it was a good way to start slowly and get the habit back. Overall it was a good day, and I don't feel nervous about the new start.
Cozy hobbit autumn activities and productivity:
got back to my 6:15 morning routine and I hadn't realized how much I missed it? Waking up when the world is quiet and having time to slowly start my day as the sun comes up is probably my favourite thing of the day
read first thing in the morning
daily Irish practice on duolingo I am amost done with my big review so i probably start to work on new topics soon!
by 8 I was sat I my desk to study so I had plenty of time to be productive but to also take as many little breaks as I needed and believe me I needed many
started watching recorded lectures and taking notes for this class I am self studying at home about human theories and power practices in the modern era the recordings are not of the best quality but they could be much worse and the class sounds very interesting. I only worked on one lecture and a half so I'll need a bit more time to judge it
ended up not studying in the afternoon because me and my dad started talking about books and movies and we had a lovely fun conversation that lasted hours and honestly no regrets because this way I am slowly getting back into my studying routine without going from 0 to 100 right away

I have only one week before my first exam of this exam season and I am so done. Due to the fact that I did not get more then two consecutive rest days during the "holidays" I am starting to feel burned out and I am not even half way into this. After my exam next week I will have a little over two weeks to fully study for another exam and I want to scream. I need to not thing about studying for a few consecutive days but I don't know how. And the week after my February exam new classes are starting again ugh. My physical health in the past two months has really fucked everything. On top of this can I say that I don't feel prepared at all for next week? Ugh this is not how I wanted my week to start.
calm hobbit winter activities and productivity:
read first thing in the morning
daily Irish practice on duolingo
finished my first outloud review for my exam next week
continued writing down the key phrases for each duolingo unit I have completed in Irish
continued my French review on duolingo
allowed myself to stop working earlier
updated my reading journal
crocheted a bit while rewatching the witcher (I am in need of fantasy to escape the horrors of reality)
馃摉: A Day Of Fallen Night by Samantha Shannon (I am two chapters in and I am already addixted to the story I need to know more)

Messy desk on a gloomy autumn day
16|10|2023
If you couldn't tell I get to the end of the week and I am too exhausted to even consider writing my daily post. This Saturday in particular was a really heavy day I was deprived of all energies, and to be quite honest I don't feel at my best yet. Other than being sick, last week I worked a lot, and had to wake up even earlier than I usually do, so it was a bad combination of things. I am now starting to feel a bit better but I am not fully recharged of energies. The good things that happened in the weekend were the fact that I found the time to sit down and watch the new episodes of Our Flag Means Death, and I also started a reread of the Something Is Killing The Children graphic novel series. The sixth volume has just came out in Italy, and although I have not found a copy yet I feel like the spooky season is perfect for a reread. Today had a quite stressing start, because I decided to tackle my most anxiety-inducing task: officializing the classes I will take on my uni's website. Of course it went terribly, I had to do the procedure twice, and there are some new techinical problems that will hopefully be resolved quickly. After doing that and emailing a professor I gave up on everything else because I felt like I just had a fight to the death and I barely got out of it alive. Thankfully in the afternoon I had a bit more energies and I managed to finish my first read of the play I am currently studying for my English lit class, so the day was not a complete waste of time.
cozy hobbit autumn activities and productivity:
read first thing in the morning
fought with my uni's website and won (kind of, because I also had to send an email to fix some problems but I dif what I could so I count that as a win)
emailed a professor to get his opinion on whether I could take his class with my unsure prerequisites and not only he answered very quickly, but he was also quite polite and told me that thankfully I can take that class and if I'll need more materials to help me with what we'll be studying he'll recommend me an additional book so that I can take the exam
did a bit of planning on what classes I will be taking this year and what I'll wait to work on next year (it's a very general guideline to help me figure out what I'll be doing with my academic life in the next while)
did a very quick weekly set up in my bullet journal
(finally) updated my reading journal
finished my first read of The Merchant Of Venice
daily Irish practice on duolingo
listened to podcasts to shut my brain off
worked on a series of future posts

Today I was more productive than I expected to be. I have been struggling a lot with focusing, and today it wasn't an exception, but I still crossed out all the tasks of my daily to do list. Autumn is definitely here, the temperatures got very low, and we also got the first rain today. Tomorrow it's going to be a bit annoying to commute if it will rain again, but I am not too mad at finally having proper autumnal weather. I am walking around the house wrapped in a blanket at all times, but that is my regular form for most of the year. I am still feeling a bit stuck with my crochet project, so I am trying not to force myself, because it's a hobby and not a job, but at the same time I would like to pick it up again because since my energies are so low I am spending more of my free time watching digital screens and it's not ideal. The thing is that I would normally read in my free time to shut off my brain and relax, but right now I am way too tired to also read in my free time. I end up listening to podcasts which are fun, but if I am not crocheting while doing that I am either playing some mindlss games or coloring on my tablet, which is still a digital screen, and my eyes aren't happy about it. I am thankfully getting a bit of reading done with graphic novels since I have decided to reread the first five volumes of Something Is KIlling The Children, but I feel like I haven't found the right balance for my free time yet.
Cozy hobbit autumn activities and productivity:
read first thing in the morning
daily Irish practice on duolingo (after creating yet again a review plan to go alongside the units I have not worked on yet. Because of course right after I was done with my big review they changed everything and now everything looks different and there is some vocab I never worked on)
listened and wrote notes for a lecture of my power practices and men theories class
finished reading and highlighting the article I had to read about The Merchant Of Venice
updated my reading journal
worked on a series of future bookish posts
continued listening to the mistholme museum podcast (which I am really enjoying! I found out about it quite randomly because it was recommended to me on spotify, but now I am really invested in it)
packed my backpack for class tomorrow and picked out an outfit already (being nice to future me so they won't have to worry about it tomorrow)
reorganized my sweater drawer
