I’m actually LOVING how Rick Riordan, and the other writers of the show, took his initial concept of a Percabeth rivalry fueled by that of their parents and kind of turned it on its head?
Now, instead of Annabeth being wary of Percy because he’s a son of Poseidon, he’s wary of her because she made a callous impression on him. They get off to a rocky start even before finding out who Percy’s father is, and when they finally do, Annabeth doesn’t care. Instead of them fighting because of who their parents are, they’re fighting over their own opposed worldviews.
Then, instead of them arguing over which of the gods is cooler and who was right in the story of Medusa, they realize that, just like Medusa, Annabeth is a victim of her mother and that, unlike Medusa, she is a far kinder and stronger person, unwilling to repeat the cycle of hurt. They realize that, like his father, Percy often acts without considering potential consequences and that, unlike his father, he is a far kinder and stronger person, willing to step up for someone he wronged and whom he cares about.
Instead of Percy and Annabeth’s rivalry being focused on that of their parents, it’s focused on who they are, themselves. But the path to friendship is still the same: a realization that they have each other’s backs, no matter what, because they’re not their parents after all.

"I'm sure this has been done before"
Yes me too but I want to hear your interpretation. I want to hear your play on it. I want to see how you connect the dots, how you shift the puzzle pieces and make them fit. Show me it through your eyes.

oh fuckkkkk from medusa telling annabeth “i was you” last episode to annabeth facing life-endangering consequences for percy’s actions (which i completely support btw) just like medusa faced athena’s ire for poseidon’s actions but nothing goes the same way because percy takes accountability immediatly (“i was the one who sent her head to olympus”) and also saves annabeth by sacrificing his ownself and all of this happens in athena’s fucking TEMPLE.

Kill on Sight Orders
The Flash fam has a secret. Okay so they have a lot of secrets, but there's one above all others.
A kill on sight order.
In the worst possible future (one of them there's a lot), a beast named Phantom decimated the world. He took out the entire Justice League, the entire Justice League Dark, any and all small-time heroes that stood in his way. All of it. Everyone.
If they see Phantom as a kid, to prevent the slightest possible chance of Phantom being a thing, it's kill on sight. They all have anti-ghost weapons that can destroy a ghost's core, locked away in a secure facility that they can just run to and grab real quick to get it done.
None of them like it. None of them can risk it.
Bart stumbles into a town that doesn't exist, almost gets got by a ghost that managed to possess him, and gets saved by...Phantom.
A scrawny, teenage Phantom.
He's funny, makes puns, worries about if Bart got hurt or not-he's nothing like the Bad Phantom!
He's not gonna kill his new friend! No way, no how.
But he's gotta keep it a secret from the other Speedsters now, because he doesn't know who came up with that rule but they probably won't understand, and then he'll have a speedster fight on his hands, and no one wants that.
But the government keeps sending letters of complaint to Max, and Max keeps asking why the government is mad at Bart now, and Bart can't tell him "oh it's because there's this town that is off the record and a secret and also where phantom is and i broke in" because that'd rat Phantom out, and even if he didn't mention Phantom Max would want to investigate.
The mailman doesn't understand why his letters keep disappearing but he thinks it might have something to do with the Flash, because there's always a red blur.

YOU'RE TELLING ME
THE TITLE CARD FROM CINDERELLA (1950) EXPLICITLY SAYS IT'S BASED ON THE PERRAULT VERSION OF THE STORY???
WE COULD HAVE AVOIDED ALL THE SANCTIMONIOUS EDGELORDS SMARMING ABOUT HOW "well Disney toned it down; the One True Grimms' Original akschully has blood and no fairy and feet getting cut up, so there" IF THEY HAD JUST
BOTHERED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE MOVIE AND THEN GOOGLE "PERRAULT CINDERELLA???"
excuse me I need to go scream into a pillow
(I'm not saying Ashenputtel isn't possibly older as a folktale than its 1812 publication date in the Grimms' book, but Perrault's version was published in the 1690s. so...)

Possessed Pearl's
You know how in some ghost stories sometimes its not a person or a land that's haunted but the items?
Well what if, when looking for a mother's day gift for his mom, Danny is looking around a pawn shop and finds a necklace, it's missing some pearls but it's just enough to pass off as a decent gift. Danny humms but decides against it and goes to leave it....
That was until he gasped out blue frost and spots a ghostly woman appear out of the necklace with a somber smile. She isn't as seeable as the other ghosts in Amity though, meaning she doesn't have enough ectoplasm on her own (that might change the longer she's in Amity and around Danny though) and that right now only Danny can see her.
And Danny well... hes been doing his hero gig for a bit now, might go and ask if there was anything he can do to help.
And later Danny's good deed... bites him back. Oh boy. Because now he has the Bats looking into Amity Park... Wait what do you mean Martha is now strong enough to be seen?!

Contrary to popular belief, Dan actually did try to move on at one point. He may have been a ghost, but ghosts could have kids, and he had Vlad's old mansion with it's cloning equipment.
He ended up with a boy, a son. He loved that kid. He was just a baby, but every day brought Dan a little closer to how he used to be. He knew he was at a turning point when he actually felt bad for killing his human half.
He named his son Jason.
The GIW learned about him.
The GIW captured and terminated Jason.
That. That is what broke Dan and led him to salt the earth so to speak.
Now that he's been relegated to having a mortal form again (in the form of one of the clones Vlad had made), he's taken to going for walks through the Zone and into other dimensions. Just.
Taking it all in.
He's floating through a dimension in his ghost form, which still thankfully matches how he thinks he should look, when he sees a standoff happening.
Two people dressed in costumes and a clown.
He wanders closer out of boredom, when he realizes.
He knows that core.
That's Jason. His Jason. Rather, this dimensions version of him, but that's his fuckin' baby.
"Choose old man! Me, or the clown!"
Dan catches the weird bat-shaped dagger midair and materializes, shocking even the cackling clown into silence. Dan doesn't understand what's going on, but he understands the choice that Jason is laying out.
It's not a choice. Not for Dan.
"You every time, kiddo."
He reaches into the clowns skull, makes his hand tangible again, and squeezes his fist.
Then, he takes his kid, ignores the hoarse scream behind him, and hauls Jason into the Zone.
This may be this dimension's version of Jason, but that doesn't mean that Dan isn't gonna take the tyke to Frostbite to make sure he's okay.

Ohhh, I'm rereading Mystra's entry in the Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide... and this detail:
Tumblr media
This means Gale was punished for trying to restore and preserve what he thought was a lost piece of Mystra's magic. Gale being Mystra's ex-lover put aside. He as her follower, she his goddess, was punished for attempting to do the one foundational rule of her faith.
I'm seething and so sad at the same time.
Edit: I used the word punish loosely, as in, toxic/abusive people will take any small mistake or action and twist it into something they can take advantage of. This post was also largely from the stand point of a toxic deity rather than a toxic partner, but both takes are valid here. Especially with the, “you didn’t stay compliant so now I’m giving you the silent treatment” part of it—from a god and a partner perspective.

so this might be a bit of reach but this scene had been bothering me for a while because why tf was sally jackson’s face not visible for the first few dialogues??? the initial answers i could think of were: a dramatic reveal or showing us young percy’s limited perspective on things, both literally and more figuratively.
but then i started thinking of how medusa tells percy that sally and her are kinda like sisters and how their stories have similarities and then my mind decided to connect sally’s head not being visible when she's first introduced to medusa being eventually beheaded, not only as a foreshadowing but also as an ominous warning of what could have been sally’s fate in an adjacent alternate universe if things didn’t go the way they had.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
they have this entire conversation with the same angle, the same shot, with percy talking with a headless sally and then when they finally reveal her fully, THIS is the shot and THIS is the dialogue:
Tumblr media
i mean percy and sally are roughly alligned with perseus and medusa’s head in the statue, a sort of twisted parallel of myth and reality.
i don't even care if this wasn't how it was intended but it seems intentional to me and i really adore this show’s cinematography and subtle hints through imaging and motifs and wkiqpwodkqlfk just had to get this out somewhere.
