OCTONAUTS HEADCANONS + canon sprinkles part 2
-ˋˏ ༻ ♡ ༺ ˎˊ-
PROFESSOR NATQUIK
Tumblr media
— late 50s or early 60s
— speaks Russian and English (with a Russian accent, like he replaces “w” with “v” like “vas” and “z” like “zat”)
— if he gets pissed off, he’ll have the craziest Russian accent that you’ll think he’s trying to summon an ancient devil or something
— isn’t usually a drinker but flavored vodka hits different (he’s Russian, like be fr)
— Calico Jack and him are chaotic besties
— sometimes, if he doesn’t know what to respond, he just kind of goes 🕺🏻🕺🏻🕺🏻
— taught Barnacles how to do field research when he was a Polar Bear Scout (canon ofc)
— always carries at least two forms of radio/some kind of long range communication on him at all times after being stranded in the Antarctic; he does not risk sh*t .
— when he lost connection to the radios he spent hours freaking out, while trying to fix the connection, causing him to slightly go insane + due to being alone for so long
— befriended the penguins in the Antarctic and they got him food and such (here)
— has ✨trauma✨ (he’s in need of therapy)
— a bit paranoid
— his fear response, fight or flight, is fight
— can’t sleep with noise; a lot of sounds keeps him alert since his ears are sensitive and therefore he wouldn’t be able to sleep, he’s used to the silence of the Antarctic
— a father figure to Barnacles (and Bianca)
— adding: Barnacles gave him a father’s day present as a cub once and they both cried
— any even just slightly traumatized child he comes across, he adopts (that’s his kid now)
— if he sees someone that he cares about cry he becomes a Dad™
— the only one who has seen Barnacles lose his temper / have a full-on breakdown
— gets frustrated quite easily
— hasn’t had a home-cooked meal in YEARS; if you gave him, like, hot soup, he’d cry pt.1
— part of the Old Mens Squad™
-ˋˏ ༻ ♡ ༺ ˎˊ-
RANGER MARSH
Tumblr media
— in his 50s
— ✨a Florida man✨, need I say more?
— has definitely wrestled an alligator before at least once and then acted like it’s normal (“why are you shocked? this is a typical tuesday”)
— sleeps like a brick no matter what; could possibly sleep through an earthquake
— uses the same catchphrases as Tweak; he’s the one she got them from!
— has no idea how advanced technology works but is learning and doing his Best™
— Tweak wants to fix his radio because it’s falling apart but he insists that it works fine (“I can’t even hear you when you call!” “That’s because you live in the ocean” “LET ME FIX IT”) .
— Tweak chewed on his hat when she was a kid and that’s why his hat has that bite mark (he refuses to buy a new hat because this one carries a memory of Tweak and he adores it)
— lowkey a dad to 90% of the Everglades creatures; they’re like family to him
— enjoys Florida Man memes; when he sees one he just goes “haha, I did that once,” and Tweak nods along knowingly and the others are like “???” (except Dashi, who is the one sending them to him either herself or through Tweak)
— sometimes sounds the Octo-alert just to talk to Tweak; free Tweak button
— part of the Old Mens Squad™
-ˋˏ ༻ ♡ ༺ ˎˊ-
CALICO JACK
Tumblr media
— late 60s
— the oldest Octo-Agent (may or may not deny it)
— has a Caribbean origin
— his mom was a Calico cat, hence his name Calico Jack
— his fear response, fight or flight, is flight; tends to panic when he realizes he made a mistake (lets out curses when no one’s around)
— kind, but not nice: before Kwazii was born, he was a merciless pirate like the others, but once Kwazii was born? Dude did a total 180° and always tried to positively influence his grandson, wanting him to be kind
— adding: since Kwazii was already starting to take after the pirate side of him and does get mistaken for his grandfather Calico Jack most likely got scared that something would happen to Kwazii, so mayhaps Jack went on a spree finding all his enemies (thinking they might mistake Kwazii for him and attack) like Whitebeard, Pirate King, all of em and ‘took care of them’ so to speak
— has seen some truly weird and scary sh*t
— can’t sleep without noise; if it’s quiet he assumes that he’s in danger and therefore cannot sleep
— has ✨trauma✨
— adding: possibly in denial about it
— Pete is his Emotional Support Birb™
— hasn’t had a home-cooked meal in YEARS; if you gave him, like, hot soup, he’d cry pt.2
— Tweak tried to offer him a new, modern prosthetic but he refused because “it isn’t the pirate way”
— considered the greatest cat pirate ever; but what actually has meaning to Jack, is that Kwazii thinks he’s the greatest
— adding: definitely cried when he learnt that Kwazii thinks he’s great
— actually has a bad eye (unlike Kwazii) but can still see with it, just not very well
— has a sea-farer’s accent like his grandson, only deeper and gruffer in tone
— also, slightly less quick to blame mythical creatures for strange things that he and the Octonauts encounter
— since Kwazii originally thought that Jack died a long time ago, but found him alive in the Amazon, and pretty much able to leave whenever he wanted, Jack was most likely just hiding from the world (a mood tbh)
— like Ranger Marsh, pretends to sound the Octo-alert on accident to talk to Kwazii; free Kwazii button (he blames it on Pete)
— part of the Old Mens Squad™
-ˋˏ ༻ ♡ ༺ ˎˊ-
PAANI
Tumblr media
— late 20s
— Indian (canon but like, adding it anyway)
— a hydrologist (again, canon, but anyway)
— autistic? possibly.
— can sometimes take others too literally or not catch certain social cues immediately
— has a tendency to get attached to inanimate objects very easily
— despite how acquainted he becomes with most creatures on his travels, he struggles to keep closer friendships— probably has some kind of attachment issues
— has a habit of doing things without asking first, or like, considering how his actions may indirectly affect others before doing them, in the name of The Greater Good™
— is a lot like Kwazii but also has a lot of the same qualities as Barnacles ; the reason why he ends up in trouble is because he jumps in to protect creatures (without thinking much)
— definitely imitates Kwazii’s sea-farer’s accent and is actually kind of good
— taller than Kwazii (and teases him about it)
— gay or demiromantic demisexual
— impulsive and acrobatic
— sleeps in the most random positions that make you think how the f is he comfortable
— makes Kwazii reflect on his own actions because Paani does the same kind of stupid reckless sh*t that he does, so now it’s Kwazii who’s gotta to be like “you should have asked for help!” while Paani’s just like “I didn’t think I’d need it :3” (truly a Barnacles moment /hj)
— adding: Kwazii and Paani have a shared love for cooking, eating snacks, tiny/baby animals and telling stories
— sometimes visits Kwazii on the Octopod, holds story-telling nights with him and the Vegimals, and bakes with them
— enjoys surfing and paddle boarding a lot; goes with Dashi sometimes
— skilled at tracking storms and usually wants to see it up close (Kwazii agrees)
— likes birds a lot and has some kind of ability to bond with them easily
— got some sort of trauma; may or may not be aware of this (either in denial or has accepted it)
— favorite food is the jackfruit
— his comfort food is his Paani’s Patties and he brings them literally everywhere he goes
— when he gets excited about water, he kind of just forgets his surroundings and just talks and talks until someone stops him— because otherwise he’ll just keep going
-ˋˏ ༻ ♡ ༺ ˎˊ-
MIN
Tumblr media
— in her 60s? (I mean she’s in the same age range as Inkling since they’re old friends so)
— Chinese (canon, but adding it anyway)
— canon, but met Inkling when he got stuck clinging to bamboo after a storm, and saved him by carrying him down
— extremely flexible and talented when it comes to climbing trees/jumping through bamboo; she can jump high and flip while climbing rocky cliffs
— precise and accurate when drawing maps that it’s like black magic or something
— hosts tea parties with Inkling sometimes (and sometimes the others tag along!)
— sometimes hangs out with Ranger Marsh, Natquik and Calico Jack (the Old Mens Squad™)
— adding: she’s an honorary member of the Old Mens Squad™
-ˋˏ ༻ ♡ ༺ ˎˊ-
BIANCA
Tumblr media
— mid 30s or late 30s, the younger twin
— Canadian; she and her cubs live in a den in the Arctic, Northern Canada
— sometimes visits Pearl or has calls with her
— strong but nowdays isn’t just as strong as Barnacles; doesn’t stop her from calling him ‘Feather Paws’ though
— grew up with Barnacles as her only family
— learned independence and self-reliance at a young age, especially in the Polar Scouts
— when she heard the ship MV Manitoba, that Barnacles was on, crashed during a big storm she immediately went to look for him
— knows Russian because of Natquik
— doesn’t really admit it, but in a way, also sees Natquik as a father figure (maybe not as much as Barnacles does, but nevertheless)
— polar bears are the most carnivorous of the bear family, so she eats a lot of meat
— can handle a hot climate but not for very long; so she usually stays in the Arctic with the cubs (also since they can’t handle hot climate)
— sleeps with a picture of her and Barnacles
— when Barnacles comes to visit them in the Arctic and stays the night or two, Bianca and the cubs cuddle with him
— tells stories to Orson and Ursa about their Uncle Barnacles and her childhood
-ˋˏ ༻ ♡ ༺ ˎˊ-
PEARL
Tumblr media
— early 30s, older than Shellington
— a marine biologist
— has knowledge to everything there is to know about kelp forests and kelp plants
— looked after Shellington a lot when they were kids (has slight Older Sister Syndrome™)
— Scottish (yes I know otters don’t live there but idc, she and Shellington were born there end of discussion)
— now lives in British Columbia, Canada
— sometimes visits Bianca in the Arctic or has calls with her
— a bit more serious than Shellington and not as clumsy
— facetimes Shellington every week or Shellington facetimes her
— unlike Shellington, she’s not allergic to anything and also eats almost anything
— the Vegimals call her aunt (she finds it cute)

Not saying this means anything especially since TBSOAS (the book) only came out in 2020, more of a “hey this is weird” post but:
I’ve always thought these two looked / were similar as two wavy blond haired blue eyed men, and it definitely helps that they both premiered (in the case of film Corio) within one year of each other . But there’s like, more than that? And some of it is very strange?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First off, they are two characters who since the start of their chronological stories teeter between ‘good’ and ‘evil’ with a lot of forces in their life, including their evil scientist mentor, pushing them towards the dark side by use of manipulation tactics. Henry is much more of a direct victim to this than Corio is though, and the latter also does have more good influences in his life.
“Fueled with the terror of becoming Prey, see how quickly we become Predator?” - Dr. Gaul
“I could restore balance to a broken world… a predator, but for good” - Henry Creel / 001
Also, can I mention how both TBOSAS and TFS are set in the same exact time period? The Hunger Games uses retro futurism since the entire story is set centuries from now, but the era is clearly inspired by the late 50s to early 60s, especially given that it takes place 60 years before the main series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now here’s the actual weird part that had me making this post.
Both of their origin stories center on a romance with a female co-lead that ends with them killing her (heavy question mark). That’s not the weird part. It’s the way that the plots of both of these origin stories and said female characters are based off of old European folk-songs that were popular in Appalachia. TFS is based off of ‘The Tale of Barbara Allen’ and TBOSAS is based off of ‘The Ballad of Lucy Gray’ - Stranger Things just bothered to change her name to Patty Newby. Barbara Allen (Patty) appears as a covey sister of Lucy Gray in TBSOAS. Naturally, both of these characters are singers which plays a role in their respective stories.
I just have to say, it’s a very obscure source of inspiration to happen twice like this. There is a little part of me that thinks Kate Trefry and the writing crew on TFS might have been fans of The Hunger Games. But who knows.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Suzanne Collins wrote the TBOSAS prequel to answer the question of ‘nature vs nurture’ and how much choice villains have in becoming their future selves - which is the exact same question that is actively being posed by Stranger Things in regards to Henry.
And then how I got started on this line of thinking again today - the older adult versions of these characters both kidnap the respective sweet boy love interests and hijack them against the main characters. For strategic reasons and, in the case of Peeta, emotionally torturing the main character so she gives up. Will and Peeta are just both so similar as characters; soft and sensitive, traumatized, painters, both the poor underdogs with (seemingly) unrequited love for the protagonist though Mike isn’t really the protagonist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m not sure if there’s actual inspiration being taken here. I typically assume not on the basis that I’m someone who can find connections between any pieces of media I enjoy. But the whole Appalachian folktale angle of it all is strange to me.
While I don’t think Henry was conceived with this in mind, it’s possible the inspiration sprang up during the further fleshing out of his backstory and into writing The First Shadow. Maybe it will even have an impact on the final season.
One of the things I liked about TBOSAS was the theme of the past coming back to haunt Snow in the future through Katniss and the music Lucy Gray created living on through her. If this was in any way inspiration, I’d love to see Vecna haunted by how similar Will is to him and especially the ways that he is different and able to do better.

Part One: What we know
When exactly the rebels in the Capitol began gathering is unknown to us. We know there has been an undercover group “for several years” aiming to overthrow the Capitol (CF, 27). We also learn about Plutarch’s plans during the 10th Anniversary Interview, where Collins mentions that a tribute at the centre of the rebellion had been a plan for at least a decade, and hopes had been centered around candidates such as Finnick (SC).
There is no further information on when the underground group came into being, but we learn about several of their members, including Plutarch, Cinna, Tigris, Cressida, as well as her remaining team. We rightfully can speculate on Portia being included, too.
As this is my favourite element of the series to contemplate on, I have put together a timeline that  paraphrases my own thoughts!
Part Two: My own speculation
50 ADD: Haymitch’s Games as the spark for the rebellion
A young intern Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee watches the 50th Hunger Games and sees a fallen rebel in the Games. If only he had had a little aid from a powerful hand within. Painted by injustices that the mad king had done to the people within the Capitol, and a belief that democracy serves Panem better, Plutarch begins to think about rebellion in a riddle: How could one end the tyranny?
Late 50s: Plutarch recruits Caesar Flickerman
Among the first people he recruits is Caesar Flickerman, whose feelings on the Capitol have made a 180 ever since he began to work closely with the tributes. As he is close to the tributes and victors, he is the perfect person to recruit and stay in contact with victors, as well as manipulate the viewership to pay close attention to a potential candidate. Over the years, they become close friends.
60s: More allies join the rebellion
Victors such as Haymitch, Beetee, and Lyme begin to join the rebellion. Within the Capitol, Plutarch recruits people such as Tigris to join their forces. They consider an escape to District 13 as their plan begins to take further shape. Most rebels only know of a few allies as to not compromise the mission.
Late 60s: Searching for a Spartacus
As resources grow and a plan becomes realistic, Plutarch begins to look out for potential candidates. Several fail in the arena, and others do not spark a rebellion as he had hoped.
Plutarch establishes himself as a Head Gamemaker to have a stronger influence on future Games and their Gamemakers, as well as becoming a trusted advisor to Snow.
[The events of my fanfiction ‘She smelled like white roses’ take place here, where Plutarch befriends, falls in love with, and recruits Virgilia Snow, the wife of the President]
Early 70s: Reaching out to District 13 and recruiting more allies
Plutarch finds life in District 13, making his plan to escape to 13 even more viable. He also recruits people such as Cressida and Cinna, the latter who is an aspiring designer and promises to jump in on last notice to a potential District.
Cinna’s role in the rebellion is to wait for a potential candidate, and aid in their appearance before the Games. He has prepared several designs for several Districts.
74 ADD, 74th Reaping Day
Katniss’ volunteering brings hope to a stagnant underground movement. Several things are set into motion, including replacing District 12’s stylist with Cinna on very short notice.
74 ADD, Pre-Games
Katniss notes that a Gamemaker keeps watching her and we could assume that this is Plutarch (THG, 7). We also know Plutarch is present during her evaluation at least, as he is the Gamemaker who falls into the punch bowl (CF, 6). Possibly, he also pressed for a high score to give Katniss further attention, under the guise of punishing her. He might even have pressed to include bow and arrow ‘to make the Games more interesting’.
Caesar as a potential ally would have intentionally asked Peeta about a love back home and allowed for Katniss to spin her dress. The interviews work perfectly in the rebellion’s favour.
74 ADD, The 74th Games
I assume that the rebels, specifically Plutarch and Virgilia Snow, convinced Seneca to a rule change. As Plutarch would have been a former Head Gamemaker retired, he might have had a mentorship role over current Head Gamemakers. This, along with President Snow possibly pushing to quench hope at its height, might have moved Seneca to a rule change that was always meant to be temporary.
74 ADD, Post-Games
Katniss excels far beyond what the underground movement might have hoped for. The early waves of rebellion begin and grow fast, leaving the rebellion to try and set into motion Plutarch’s return to Head Gamemaker status—a process aided by someone close to the President; his wife Virgilia.
Shortly after the end of the 74th Games, the plans for the 75th arena’s layout begin.
75 ADD, The Victory Tour and the Quarter Quell announcement
By the time that Katniss arrives at the Capitol for her victory tour, the flames of rebellion have grown ever further. Plutarch only needs to fuel them and get the main part of the rebels to 13.
Many have questioned Plutarch’s words and how far his plans are when he talks to Katniss. His statement that arenas aren’t built in a day is, I think, code in the same way that his statement on the mockingjay watch is.
The arena that isn’t built in a day is the underground movement, wanting to hint at there being powerful allies who have been waiting for her for a while.
Plutarch wanting her as a mentor figure is, I think, his plan B. In my theory, he is currently pursuing the President to change the Quarter Quell but has not yet pushed far enough. If we look at the movies, then the rule change here, too, only happens after the victory tour. Movie!Plutarch would have assumed Katniss to NOT have been in the arena here, too. But that does not mean it wasn’t his hope to have her inside the arena.
75 ADD, Post Quarter Quell announcement
Plans are brought into motion, final arrangements with District 13 are being made. The rebels finally are seeing their plans brought to life.
Cinna begins his design plans for Katniss’ mockingjay suit and hands them to Plutarch shortly before the beginning of the Quarter Quell.
The victors are informed about the final plan of the Quarter Quell right before its start, and only for as much as they need to know. They learn about the bread code and several plans are laid out that Katniss can escape; the lightning tree not being the sole solution. I assume there are several plans as the bread code changes from four days (without Beetee) to three days (with Beetee). It would also be surprising if Plutarch didn’t have a plan B up his sleeves.
Lastly, I take it that the destruction of the arena was not truly that necessary, as hovercrafts get in and out all the time (with or without the help of an inside source). Plutarch might simply have liked the metaphor of a physically destroyed arena.

Random thoughts list for our optical appetite asuaging Mr. Darling & others!
-Say the kidnapped crew miraculously found a box with a note from one of the original crew's teenaged youths who figured out what was happening at the studio & poured their purest intentions into a '50s-'60s themed doll/puppet/poppet (the Bob Dilian Cap, 'fro, green flower shades framed in purple Ombre, funky flowery tunic top, love beads [their maker's gifted for protection], evil eye medallion, waist beads under their top, bell bottoms, flowing scarves, etc., etc.) & decided to send their parent help in protecting them but it was too late. The new crew opened the pink/white wax-sealed box to find a spunky, funky, unnamed, disco dolly that was specifically made to combat Wally's reign.
-What if Mr. Darling met the new puppet who was (by some mystical BS for plot's sake) 100% immune to his way of eating & when he tried to bite them he only gets whatever is behind his intended target? This varies in reactions depending on what was beside them if anything. He could have eaten the part of a table or counter their food was sitting on & they sass him for that or if their make-up was eaten they'd ask if he felt pretty on the inside. The scene that initially plopped into my head like a boulder falling into a big lake was:
Wally wonders upon the newest addition to The Neighborhood just to find them doing something he doesn't like & tries to use his eyes but he only catches the bush they were passing by/looking at or what-have-yous. They don't veer around, flinch, nothing. A simple chuckle & a lone, feasibly dominant hand to the respective hip is all the star of the show gets before they peek mockingly over their shoulder at him.
"What's the dealio, Darling Daddy-o? Too much to bite off~?" Thus, the war began.
-Jokingly, the new puppet said Mr. Darling is "wally, wally, blood & dolly" for them (wild about a person in a way that makes you blind to their faults) to whoever/everyone who'd lend an ear which caused Mr. Darling to become even angrier with them. They like him angry, it's so cute.
-All the early '60s-'70s jargon with all the trimmings.
-They have a Home, too. This one formed from a little die that (when tossed lightly on the desired spot) spawned in the chosen place, batting its frilled shutters as it came to life ready to welcome its lone occupant in & keep intruders out. The new crew placed it on the outskirts of The Neighborhood while the new puppet/poppet was distracting Mr. Darling. You can imagine his reaction when he heard it creak cheerfully as the new neighbor scattered through the twin stable doors [possibly decorated in/painted with the pattern of dark blue/pink/green/white/red evil eyes] as they slam behind them, leaving the "eyes" to glare at Wally before setting a barrier to protect the newest Bungalow (Bunny???) from his devouring gaze.
I'm sure there's more to write, but I'm tired rn. Bye!

Sudden question popped in my head: "How old is Gran Torino?"
Dude looks like he's supposed to be 80 or 90 yet he's spry even for anime fighting heavy setting old people.
Note a lot of this is gonna be riddled with a few assumptions based on character design and general character tropes as related to demeanor. The rest is applying math to known or estimated ages.
Also some minor spoilers due to some flashback sequence images used for reference but nothing major.
Tumblr media
Now since this is anime and across many many MANY different anime and manga the original artist or artist team tend to make character visual ages weird. I joke semi-often that kids look like teenagers, teenagers look like adults, young adults look like grizzled 40/50 year olds, and anyone past that look like they're in their 90s... unless you have a character who looks like a child. There's also even odds of the "child" being just that or actually being secretly immortal or 200+ years old.
So its possible that Torino's actually younger than he seems (shit ages you and we know he went through it). It'd also play in to his little prank/joke that he's a senile old man. I know people who look older than they really are due to one reason or another (usually stress) and I know some people in my mother's side of the family tend to look younger for whatever reason. (Some of us joke about having a portrait in the attic.)
But first: All Might is like what, 50? 60? We know he has an active career that's lasted long enough to make everyone else feel like he'll always be there. We also know he got OFA, attended U.A. (and presumably graduated), and then Toshinori got shipped off to America for his safety and to put a whole ocean between him and All Might. And since Gran Torino looked very tall at that time that means that we have a fully grown adult there (adding in to that "old people shrink in the wash" height joke thing).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
All Might was dressed in a middle school uniform when he first met Nana so that means he would've been between 12 and 15 when Nana was shown talking about him to Sorahiko after Kid Toshi's dream and drive won her over. Now he's TALL but that doesn't mean anything since I remember a couple boys in 4th grade towering over our teachers so he could be a very gangly one. But to make the Izuku parallels more strong we can say that the first meeting he had with Nana was when he was around 14 or 15.
But the only thing we can really know is that Torino would have to be at least 20-ish to have a pro hero license. Dude has the attitude of someone who's been around the block a bit so let's add in another 5 years for experience as that would be long enough to know the field. That said the characters we know best from canon with similar attitudes are in their early 30s or late 30s.
So that'd make him 30-something to Kid Toshi's 14.
But there's another character I can use as a benchmark for his age: Nana's son Kotaro. 32 when he died, when Tenko (at the time) was around 5-6. Tomura is 20 by canon's start, where All Might would presumably be in his 50s. Now I always assumed Kotaro was around 5 when Nana gave him up for his safety as that is generally the age when things go start to shit for characters in the setting. It'd also give Kotaro stronger memories of Nana and better awareness of who she was (a hero) and why his kids wanting to be heroes like her set him off (not that he seemed to need a reason with his apparent temper).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So if Kotaro is 32 when Tenko was 5/6, the man would have been 47 by the time Tomura appeared in canon. All Might - assuming he's in his 50s - would've met Nana when Kotaro was... well, if All Might is 59 at the series start then Kotaro would've been 3, if All Might is 55 then 7, if he's 51 then 11.
You know what? All Might at 55 sounds fair. Kotaro being 7 at that time also means the loss would've been still fairly fresh, explain a lot about how the letter was phrased, and possibly be part of why Torino was a bit leery of Nana picking a kid. All this without it being too close to her unintentionally replacing her son with another around his age.
Series Start Ages: All Might, 55. Kotaro, 45/46. Tomura, 18/19. Izuku, 14-ish/15-ish.
1-A Start ages: All Might, 56/57. Kotaro, 47. Tomura, 20. Izuku, 16.
So assuming all this... Torino could be around 72 to 77 by the time All Might first meets Izuku.
... you can see how crazy I'm making myself trying to make sense of the timeline.

So, this post made me think about some conviction of mine and I wanted to know your opinions too.
For me, Elvis' voice is better in the 70s, end of story, which is not novelty for any one but naturally we have diverse opinions on the fandom, that's why I like sharing my views on it. I'm not going deep dive about the technical aspects on Elvis' voice because I'm no music teacher, vocal trainer or anything so I'll stick to my feeling as a mere fan. You may love Elvis' 50s voice better, nothing wrong about it since he rocked at all eras - no question about it - but denying his voice was way more amazing in the 70s is like saying Elvis didn't improve himself as a singer over the years which is totally untrue. Let me say it... My fav thing is hearing him singing the 50s songs in the 70s (and late 60s). On the '68 Special when he sang "When My Blue Moon Turns to Gold Again" I was like... literally hollering at my seat (and kept listening to the song over again, each time bringing me closer to watery eyes).
youtube
youtube
Understand what I'm saying? Both versions amazing, but the 60s one it's just... flawless!
Another of the '68 special's rendition of a 50's song I love happened when Elvis said Scotty Moore asked him to perform "Lawdy Miss Clawdy"… I gotta say, the first time I heard him singing this second song was the '68 version but a few days ago I played the 50s version and… not even close to impress me as much. Although is fairly good, it doesn't hold a candle for Elvis' voice in the late 60' and all the live 70s versions of it.
youtube
youtube
Anyway... Elvis' from the late 60's on voice is the most! I mean, listening to the 50s version of "Lawdy Miss Clawdy" don't you miss the Sweet Inspirations singing "Bye bye, baby" and "Won't be coming no more..." on the background? The 1972 "Elvis On Tour" version is the best one EVER! And that's what I mean… Elvis kept improving himself as a singer year after year! It doesn't matter how sometimes his sicknesses affected his vocals during the late 70s, because that's very understandable (even tho is a shame) and even when his voice was a weaker (in an Elvis to himself comparison scale), his voice through the 70s is better than his 50s voice alright anyways. C'mon! That's true! By the way, for me, Elvis singing with a sore throat sounds better than 95% of other performers (and the 5% that could possibly outshine him around the time his voice was weak are the 50s-70s ones - his own fellow music performers. Not even one of the today's artist could come close to what Elvis' voice was, even when he sounds a little weak during some late 70s live performances, much less at his voice's best powerful and full vitality moments). That's my opinion.
youtube
Anyway... sometimes I wonder: Was Elvis really "the King" in the 50s? I'm not talking about his numbers, the amount of fans, money or fame here, guys. I don't either wanna sound like I'm belittling Elvis' amazing, not ever seen before or after, tremendously impressive successful career. He totally earned being dubbed "The King of Rock Roll" in the 50s considering he's done what no one had ever done before and was really successful at it. We can say he was "the King of Hearts" since the 50's but in music... Okay, all his bold wild dance moves live onstage and his big charisma did it for him to earn the title "the King" too, but even so his voice was great and unique, it wasn't perfect... just yet. I think of him being crowned "the King" in the 50's somehow as "being a promise to be fulfilled" — and it was. During his career he was year after year getting better and better as a singer and performer, showing everyone he indeed was "the King", in spite he was doing movies or recording albums, Elvis never ceased to keep the world's eyes on him and he did it so effortlessly. Even tho he worked his ass off, his charm and talent was natural as day light. Elvis Presley definitely wasn't a regular performer and maybe that's why he was crowned as "the King of Rock and Roll" so early in his career but to me, the moment he absolutely triumphed and proved nobody could ever hold a candle to him was from the late 60's on.
The Elvis we see from late 60s on, performing soulfully onstage is undeniably "THE KING".

What are your thoughts about this? Do you prefer Elvis' voice in the 50s, 60s or 70s?

The Overdue Man
Have you ever had an uncanny or possibly paranormal experience?
I have.
It happened when I was in undergrad, I had a work-study in the Archivists Office in the rare books section of the library. The library is a classic modern building from the 50s, once ahead of its time, now well behind. The computer system was similar, my college being one of the first to adopt a digital library catalog in the late 60s
So, as you can see, this is, in part, a story of a haunted computer terminal.
I had returned early from spring break to pack in some extra hours in the library so I could avoid working during exams week. The campus was lovely in spring, dogwood trees shed pink petals on the quad, tulips tossed & bobbed sudden short thunderstorms. I got lost in my work on the solid library terminal with it's chunky keyboard & blue-green matrix screen.
My desk was under a little sky light in a hidden corner of the 5th floor. That's how I noticed the light changing.
The library was a modernist building, as I mentioned, and many people called it "ugly" I think simply because it was modern. Secretly it was one of my favorite buildings on the campus. Because, although built with clean minimalist lines, it was made with care. The architect clearly cared about light. During the day, the building hardly used any electric lights at all.
So, I was alarmed when the sky suddenly darkened so drastically that the runners came on. But, this was spring and I looked up expecting the thunder and another violent little thunder storm.
Gazing up through the skylight told me little. The window was frosted, and I could only see a steel gray haze. The green blue glow of the old computer lit my keyboard and I endeavored to keep working.
Before I could apply myself to my task the light shifted again. This time growing brighter... golden. The runners switched off. The air grew still. The library was empty.
The light from the skylight and from every window was a lustrous pink-gold, a sunset color although it was only early afternoon. The effect was beautiful, dust motes played near the stair well.
The bell at the front desk around the corner rang. Strange. I didn't hear anyone enter.
My main duty was cataloging, but if the head archivist was out I was tasked with lending out rare books in his place. I went around to see who it was.
The light was much more dramatic in the rare books library lobby where there were more skylights & windows, the whole space was bathed in that peach-toned light. And there, by the bell, stood a young man. Smartly dressed. Too smartly dressed.
In fact, a large part of the "paranormal" nature of this experience will require you to trust my (even then) finally tuned sense of fashion.
He had on tweed pants and a sweater, leather shoes and a button down shirt. All of his clothes were out of time. His sweater, to take one item, was a campy letterman affair in school colors. Hand knit. It was the kind of plain sweater that no one would bother to hand knit. It was hand knit self-consciously because whoever bought it couldn't afford store-bought and aimed to approximate the mass produced look as best they could. In short, it was very old.
But, it was also brand new.
The same was true of his plain, white shirt. I could see less than perfect hand stitching on the collar. Who, today would sew a white button-down shirt by hand?
Under his arm he held a notebook, and even it struck me as all wrong for the date of our existence. It was a composition book the likes of which I have never seen except in archives, the black and white dapple pattern was made by splattering ... not printing.
His outfit, though very plain, had that effect of a costume. I took all this in and decided he was from the drama department.
Not everyone could check out rare books. We had our own system, hence the computer in the basement and the beautiful, clunky terminals. I asked for his ID. That's when things got even more strange.
His ID was *laminated* and contained a *real photograph*! His name inscribed by typewriter. His student ID? In pen! I started to have my doubts about my theory that he was from drama. Maybe this was an elaborate book heist!
I tuned over the ID frowning with doubt. "This isn't-" "I'm a grad student." He explained quickly. "Have been for a long time. I know that photo is old..."
The photo didn't look old to me at all. Though, perhaps it was that strange light, concealing and repainting things, for as much as I'd noticed his clothing, I took more notice now of the man himself. He had an uncanny ageless quality. I could not have said if he were 25 or 45... or perhaps even older.
I peered at the photograph on the ID comparing it to the man. They were clearly the same. The clothing in the photo looked just as anachronistic. Even the background of the photo felt like something from a forgotten decade, a pull-down painted backdrop of the college rotunda. His photo beamed at me, and so did the man himself.
Some of the faculty had such ancient IDs. So, I decided to search him up in the system. I tried his last name, which was short an unusual. No luck. I tried his ID--
When I entered his student ID the terminal flashed. The screen inverting for a moment. I gave it wack, as I'd seen the head archivist do, and this seemed to clear it up... but the record I was now viewing was curious and incomplete.
His name had been entered in the wrong field, which is why the search failed. His first name was just an initial. I attempted to correct this but the system wouldn't accept my changes.
I scanned the book. And handed it over to him. He smiled, thanked me, and it seemed very sincere. Whatever else he was, whoever or wherever (whenever) he'd come from he seemed like a nice person, at least.
I watched him leave, and then leaned over to the window hoping to see him go out through the main exit on ground level below.
But he never came out. Instead the golden light began to rapidly fade. The library returned to normal... the charm that hovered over the place was gone.
Maybe he was just a quirky grad student with a thing for vintage clothing construction, a very old ID, uncanny ageless looks, and great timing with lighting. (and he could have left the library via the tunnels. )
I tried to look at his record in the system again, and NOBODY could edit it. Not even the head archivist. It kept changing itself back. Edits wouldn't stick. To this day, I can't shake the feeling that something more was going on.
I never saw him again.
If you are wondering, the book was "Physics and applications of secondary electron emission"

so i was searching for butch actresses over 50, you know looking for my perfect Gabrielle. given how she likes to cut her hair short and dress like a man, I figured she'd look pretty butch in our time.
(though unfortunately she can't have top surgery, or her boobs would just grow back, like her hair.) god, anne could have done so much more with her, and really leaned into the whole vampire/gender stuff she had going on. but i digress.
anyway, the internet does not know what a butch woman is, especially one who isn't young. and i'm looking for someone 50's-60's here. I mean late 50's to mind 60's, given how in the show Lestat is made into a vampire at 34. And he was her youngest, though she had a bunch of other kids. Like Lestat had 2 brothers who lived to be adults and 4 brothers (and maybe a sister, according to some website) who died as children, and/or in childbirth. I can't remember the specifics. What I'm saying is this woman popped out a total of 7/8 babies.
Even if she was married young to the Marquis, (I'm assuming as a teenager, though probably at least 16/17, as she had done some traveling before marriage) it takes 9 months to make a baby, and she was probably in her late 20's-early 30's when Lestat was born. (I've mathed it from different sites, one says 28, another maths to 30, so who knows for sure?)
The point I'm making is she'll be an older lady. If Lestat was 34 when he made her, she'd be like anywhere like 62-64ish. And I wanna see a lady that age cast in the role. But I also think modern Gabrielle would be cutting her hair nearly every night and dressing in men's clothes, and maybe possibly discover what binders are, though I don't know if she'd bother with them.
Ugh, I wanna know so bad who they are going to cast to play her.

Everyone is giving their predictions of the new musical so I thought I would join in. Some of these I genuinely think could very possibly happen, some I really wish will.
• Bryce's character will be an absolute girlboss. No questions asked.
• Lesbians somewhere. Everyone wants it to be the main characters. I just want them somewhere. I have a good feeling that this show will include the gays somehow.
• Some Starkids that I don't believe will be in this show are Joey and Angela. I love them both so much but I think they are both extra busy right now and I just don't think they will be in this one.
• Some Starkid friends might be in this one (Mary Kate Wiles, Esther Fallick, Tessa Netting, etc.) not so sure about this one, though.
• This will be Jae's first stage show with Starkid.
• Chanse will finally join Starkid. Maybe not if Angela isn't in the show, but if she is I think he very possibly will join. Medieval seems like a theme he would love.
• The stage set will be sickening.
• We will all be simping for medieval Kim.
• It will have pirates in it somehow. I was skeptical when everyone was saying this but now that we know it is medieval themed for sure, I think it is very possible.
• It will have a new iconic villain that everyone is gonna love.
• Lauren will reprise her role as a little (british?) boy.
• This will be the largest Starkid show cast ever.
• Joe will finally return. He has been doing a lot of acting stuff again lately and I think it could be possible. I will not say probably, and if he doesn't want to ever I fully understand and respect that.
• Jaime will have a bigger role than usual. She deserves it, and I mean just imagine her in a classic medieval knight sort of look. She would slay (pun intended).
• Nick might finally get back on the stage for maybe at least a short scene as a silly side character. I think he could have a lot of fun with a silly medieval character.
• This one is just something that randomly came to my mind over the hours of fantasizing about this show. I imagined Bryce's character and a character played by Curt that both have like similar to a Eugene/Rapunzel dynamic and personalities but completely platonic. This one is random and not really a prediction but I loved this idea.
• Matt Dahan will work a lot with Jeff Blim on the music for this one. If you have heard Matt's musical Starry, I feel like that music style would fit well in a medieval setting. So I think the style will be similar.
• I think it will be their most serious musical yet, but obviously still lots of humor throughout. Like if you say Black Friday is 50/50 funny and serious, this will be 60/40.
• I saw some good reasons why this will be very DnD themed so I agree with that. But do keep in mind that Nick has already stated that though we are leaving the Hatchetfield series, they aren't doing anymore parodies. So this will just be inspired by stuff like how Hatchetfield was.
• I am going to be brutally honest on this one, something tells me this is not gonna be one of my favorites. More on the quite lower side of my list. I love medieval stories but I am skeptical at how well Starkid will handle it. I also feel like their writing and humor has strayed a lot from the old Starkid, which some people seem to think is better but imo I heavily prefer the early days of Starkid to more recent stuff. But at the same time I love every single one of their shows so it being on he lower side doesn't mean much. I am sure I will love it, I just don't think it is gonna be their best.

Saw This in “The Oeder Games” and Wanted to Share.
At the beginning of the episode, I notice that Zeke's dad was sitting at a table with a lady in a blue blouse, some guy in a blue tie, and Zeke. More than that, the lady was sitting next to Zeke in the longer shots. (who knows where Zeke goes when they get closer though. XD) I notice she's either close to Zeke or Zeke's dad as seen in the images below.
Tumblr media
So since Cheryl has no canon face as of this moment, I headcanon that the blue blouse lady is Cheryl. Though, feel free to say I'm wrong and she appears in another episode under another name because I honestly want to know. I don't keep up with all the bg characters of BB so I'm not sure if the lady is in any other episodes or not. I also want to keep an eye out for the guy that's next to Zeke's dad in the first screenshot. I want to say he's Zeke's 44-year-old brother, but I'm not sure if he's already a character with his own lore separate from Zeke's family. The character he looks the most like, at least from what I found so far is Glen. I don't think he's Glen though because Glen has darker brown hair and the hair is not as smooth (also I think Glen has slightly tanner skin). Hopefully, I'll find him outside of this episode one of these days. Also, since Zeke's dad doesn't necessarily look like someone who could have a 44-year-old son, here's my headcanon. Zeke's 44-year-old is the result of teen pregnancy and Zeke's dad is between his late 50s and early 60s. He also dyes his balding hair to make himself feel younger than he is. Back to maybe Cheryl. I suppose there's still a possibility that the lady could be Zeke's bio mom and she just got a bigger redesign compared to Zeke's dad from what he looked like in "The Belchies".
Tumblr media
Then again, we still don't know if this lady from "The Belchies" was an early design for Cheryl or not either. Until we get an episode that actually reveals Cheryl or Zeke's bio mom, these two designs are all I have to go off of. So Occam's razor, since Cheryl gets talked about more than his bio mom, I'm going to assume the blue blouse lady is Cheryl and not his bio mom or some random woman until proven otherwise. TLDR, I headcanon the blue shirt lady as Zeke's stepmom but I'm still not sure if she could be just a random bg character with her own thing or even a redesign of Zeke's bio mom (if the woman from "The Belchies" wasn't a proto Cheryl that is). Many questions are left unanswered for now and not much proof to grasp, the nature of many headcanons for brief bg characters.

how many times have you watched ryan's movies? are there any other than only god forgives you haven't seen but plan to?
Hi sweetness!! 💙💙💙 What a fun question, thank you for asking!!
I'm gonna say real quick that these numbers are how many times I've actually sat and watched these movies all the way through. If I included how many times I've had these movies playing as background noise while working on commissions, the numbers would be wayyyy higher. I have almost all of these movies playing as background noise when I'm working but I dunno if that counts as me technically "watching" the movie haha
🎀 Barbie -- 98 times and counting!! Almost 70 of those were in theaters. I wanna do something special for my 100th watch but I dunno yet 🤔 maybe I’ll save it for my anniversary with Barbie and Ken hehe. I already have a comic in mind I wanna make :D
🦂 Drive -- 67 times I THINK. I lost count just a little bit so I can't tell if I'm in the late 60s or the early 70s... I think it's 67 though. Could be wrong but that's the number I'm gonna stick with. I have such a strong attachment to this movie and I have no idea why. I self ship with Driver and he's one of my main F/Os so it makes sense I like the movie, but, like... holy shit dude, I could probably watch this movie every single day for a full month and not get sick of it. There was one week where I watched it every single day with multiple friends in rotation and I was always sooo excited to see it every time. Just uh, just something about this movie, like Barbie, they PUT something in that movie bc it's affecting my brain chemicals
🎆 The Gray Man -- I lost count after 50 something and I don't remember the exact number. So. Over 50 times :D
🌃 La La Land -- This one I didn't even start counting so I couldn't even make a guess, but I know it's a lot... probably almost as much as Drive. I have the same Feeling towards this movie where I feel like mentally I am gripping onto it super hard and shaking every single drop of serotonin out of it as often as possible. I have some days where I'll watch it maybe 2 or 3 times in one sitting. Isn't that wild??? That's like 6 hours of my time dude. idk why my brain acts like this. I have THINGS to DO!!! but no, it's La La Land Time!! I GUESS!!! 😤💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙 RAHHH I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUUUCH
🧸 Lars and the Real Girl -- I’ve wanted to see way more, but I’ve only seen once. I wasn't in a very good headspace the first time I watched it, so I think that's why I didn't seem to fixate on it as much as I did with the others? If I rewatch it now with a friend I might feel better though. I watched it way back in September around my birthday, all these months later I would surely enjoy it much more now but I should have a friend with me just in case :]
💛 Blade Runner 2049 -- 11 times! But this one I have as background noise so often while working on commissions because the runtime is so long. I've played it in the bg at least once a week since September 1st, so that's uhh, [counting weeks on the calendar] holy shit 36 times. Not counting the weeks I'd have it on in the background more than once or the 11 times I actually sat and watched. K's one of my top 3 main Ryan F/Os so this movie is very very dear to me 🥰🥰
🔎 The Nice Guys -- 7 times so far! Like LATRG, I haven't fixated on this movie at all either... I watched it while in a Not Great headspace, so 🤷‍♀️ I guess it affects how often/how strongly I'll seem to hyperfocus on something??
🌲 TPBTP -- Never counted my watches on this one because the first time I watched it I was like "WHOA. WAHUAHG. HOLY SHIT" and then I thought I wouldn't watch it again, but uh, every now and then I get Luke on the brain and gotta go crawling back. Especially now bc he makes me feel sooo safe I've been thinking about him wayyy more often!! ;w; I'll only watch the first 40-50 minutes maybe once a week since... late October... so it's been at least 26 times. There are some weeks where I'll watch it multiple times so, who knows. The FULL movie however I've seen only ✌ twice
💌 Crazy, Stupid, Love -- I think I've watched this full movie 5 times with 5 different people, then watched it by myself just once or twice. I haven't counted how many times I'd just skip everything to only watch Jacob's parts... 10-20 times if I had to guess!! I've memorized all of his lines in this movie <3
💙 Blue Valentine -- Just 16 times so far!
🌹 The Ides of March -- 3 times! Still don't understand 99% of what's happening but that's fine. Stephen is sooo gorgeous he can do whatever he wants. Leaving lipstick marks all over his collar as we speak
🦢 The Notebook -- OH THIS ONE I HAD SUCH A WEIRD RELATIONSHIP WITH LMAO okay let me tell you bestie I watched this movie one (1) time when it came out in theaters during Flashback Cinema back in July a couple of weeks after Barbie was released, and then I thought "wow that sure was a movie :)" didn't have any attachment to Noah at all. Jump forward to March this year, I thought to myself "why don't I ever have The Notebook as background noise for my commissions?? Ryan's in that, why have I literally never thought about it??" so I pull it up, and then I just... I start watching it, I didn't work on anything that night, I ended up just watching the movie. over... and over. and over. and over. I watched it 19 times in one week. I don't know what happened there, I just had this... mini-fixation on The Notebook where I'd watch it multiple times in a row and somehow not be sick of it?? Noah FINALLY made it to the F/O list because of that, but I only really had Feelings for him, for like... 2 days, probably not even that long?? and now he's back to being someone I don't really think of SDLFHSFSDF but he finallyyy made it to the Mojo Dojo Casa Keri Ken Dreamhouse, so he's happy. He's got a cute little swan in his ship tag. Once you're an F/O, you're always an F/O... I don't have the heart to kick him out... kissed and thrown into the pile kind of boyfriend.
💕 Honorable mention: I have watched the first Papyrus SNL skit 22 times and Papyus 2... 54 times. I just. I love Steven Wingdings SO much. SO MUCH 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
I feel like I'm forgetting someone... OH yeah, The Fall Guy, I've seen that twice so far, and First Man I've also only seen twice. but I've had First Man playing in the background while working on commissions a few times ✨✨
And for your second question!! Movies I plan on seeing but haven't yet:
Only God Forgives ← I am the most excited abt this one :D
Gangster Squad
Song to Song
Movies I am kinda on the fence about seeing but will do it anyway because it's Ryan and I gotta keep this hyperfixation going somehow:
Half Nelson
Fracture
The Big Short
All Good Things
Stay ← MAYBE. I definitely need to be in a good headspace for this one
Whatever else he's been in I will probably try at least once, depending on the plot

Diplovertebron
Tumblr media
Publicity still from The Monster of Piedras Blancas
[By the late 1950s, the Hays Production Code was weakening, and many movies not made by the big studios were released without code approval. This eventually lead to the MPAA and the movie rating system by the mid 1960s, but in the meantime, you had all manner of indie films experimenting with what they could get away with. Which is the major claim to fame of The Monster of Piedras Blancas. This is a Creature from the Black Lagoon ripoff featuring multiple decapitations and the female lead skinny dipping (although no nudity is actually caught on camera) while the monster sniffs her underwear. Pretty intense stuff for 1959! It’s those decapitations that are why I have my version slotted in at such a high CR. I wanted to have it at least have a chance to perform its signature move.
Incidentally, the name Diplovertebron is a real scientific name, for a very incomplete and possibly dubious genus of early tetrapod. The real animal was maybe half a meter long, not even remotely humanoid, and couldn’t pull the head off of even a single skinny-dipper. I can only imagine some screenwriter paging through a paleontology textbook until he spotted a name he thought sounded cool.]
Diplovertebron CR 11 NE Monstrous Humanoid This creature is humanoid, with a fleshy nose with barbels drooping over a fanged maw. It has ridges of armor plating along its back and arms. Its hands are oversized claws.
A diplovertebron is an aquatic humanoid with a protective carapace and lethal claws. They can smell blood at great distances, and may travel from afar in order to scavenge or prey upon whatever has spilled it. They require water in order to survive, but twin snorkel-like appendages grow from its head, allowing it to smell the air even while it is submerged. Once it finds prey, it attacks with stealth, hoping to make a kill quickly. They are noted for tearing the heads from their victims, as they seek fatty meals and humanoid brains are an excellent repast.
Diplovertebrons are family creatures, living in kin groups and assisting each other at hunting when possible. A lone diplovertebron is an unhappy one, and they may try to “make” a family by kidnapping people instead of killing them. A diplovertebron can speak Aquan, albeit without much articulation, and some of them find life in sahuagin colonies or among other evil aquatic intelligent creatures. They have very long lifespans, and may survive between 300 and 400 years if not slain by violence.

Vorpal Critical (Ex) If a diplovertebron rolls a natural 20 on a claw attack and confirms the critical hit, the creature struck must succeed a DC 22 Fortitude save or be decapitated. This kills most living creatures instantly. This does not function if the target creature doesn’t have a head. The save DC is Strength based.

Okay, so, I rewatched “Toy Story 2” last night, and there’s something about it that really puzzles me. I’m sure it’s been brought up before, but I still just wanted to ramble for a little bit.
So, the “Toy Story” films most definitely take place with ing the mid 90s, into the 2000s/2010s. We know this, because “2” confirms that the Buzz Lightyear toys came out in 1995, which must have been when Andy got his Buzz, considering the excitement he caused. In “2” we also see that Buzz is still a best seller, as he has an entire aisle of Al’s Toy Barn dedicated to him. This likely means that the Buzz Lightyear TV show came out in the early 90s. So, Buzz is still very new in “2”.
The same cannot be said for Woody and the rest of the Round Up Gang. The show they came from, “Woody’s Roundup”, was cancelled after Sputnik, around the mid 1950s. For a show that old to continue to release merchandise, it would have to be one that gets continuous renewal every few years, and therefore keep up interest. Shows like “Scooby Doo” spring to mind. But there is never an implication that “Woody’s Roundup” was ever remade. Even if it continued to release tie ins, such as books, or comics, it is unlikely it would have garnered enough popularity with children for new toys to be made. Especially in the late 80s and early 90s. So how old is Woody, exactly?
For Al to be wetting his pants over finding Woody, he would have to be pretty old, or at least a limited edition. He would also have to be of some significant age to complete the Roundup Gang, as an original set. This is another implication of Woody’s age, Jessie’s flashback. In the flashback we see of Emily playing with Jessie, it would seem to have taken place through the 60s. The biggest implication of this is the patterns and colours we see in Emily’s room, evocative of flower power. This would mean that Jessie dates back at least as far as the early 60s, if not the late 50s.
Something I never caught before, was a line Woody says when he sees the record player in Al’s apartment. “I haven’t seen one of these in a long time.” It’s unlikely a kid Andy’s age would have had a record player. So, either Andy’s family used to have one, and got rid of it, or Woody is old enough to have lived in a house where there was one.
All this leads me to believe that Woody is a hand-me-down toy. I think he was previously owned, either by Andy’s mother, or his father. The fact that Andy’s father is never seen, or talked about, could imply he is either divorced from Andy’s mother, or possibly even dead. This would explain Andy’s attachment to Woody, apart from an interest in Cowboys. He could be something left from his father. This is even implied by Andy’s mother, when refusing to sell Woody to Al. She says “It’s an old family toy.” Not “It’s my son’s toy.” but an “old family toy”.

Admiral Jackson "Volcano" Vesper. He'll feature throughout Hearing Problems in flashbacks, and as such I need to get this up before chapter 8 is finished. He will also present as a main antagonist when I write Any Way The Wind Blows.
Possibly the most unhinged villain I've ever created. Bit proud of him, to be honest. Only a bit. For the most part, he just gives me the full-on heebie jeebies.
I used Bing AI to generate his likeness because I really wanted something accurate, once I can get a bit better at photo editing on gimp or get back into drawing again (time and stress are huge issues where that's concerned), I'll do better.
Name: Jackson "Volcano" Vesper
Age: late 50s to early 60s at death

Black suit, white tie, white admiral's coat. Carries a sabre, a large bowie knife, and a standard issue flintlock pistol. Always at least a dash of crazy buried in his one remaining eye.
Black hair streaked with white. Right eye is bright turquoise, left eye is missing completely with heaby tissue damage around the socket. May or may not wear a false eye if the mood strikes, usually solid black if he does. Black and white goatee. Heavy burn scarring on left side of face, heavy tissue damage to left ear. Lean build. 6'2" height.
Personality:
While capable of putting on enough charm to keep suspicion of him and his goals manageably low, he is known for having an incredibly short temper. Mastermind when it comes to planning operations, but all but loses his mind when his plans don't come to fruition, part of what earned his monicker of 'Volcano'—he can and will blow his top at a moment's notice of everything around him isn’t perfectly in order, and there's a chance that heads will literally roll. Or burn. Whichever.
His explosive temper has led his subordinates as well as some of his superiors to fear him, which helped him move quickly through the Marine ranks and achieve the position of admiral at the age of forty. When he's stable (as stable as ge can be), he comes across soft spoken, eloquent, and levelheaded, if not downright charismatic; amd as such, incredibly manipulative. Not at all outwardly self-conscious about his scars and flaws, instead wearing them like a badge of honor; but alone, can't stand the sight of his own reflection, a constant reminder of the vengeance he has sought for decades that continues to evade him.
Pure hatred for pirates and anything to do with them, firmly oposing the warlord system for example and not shy about voicing his opinions on the matter. Strong of both will and body, he was banned from attending warlord meetings early on in his career as an Admiral, as his snide comments would often turn the meetings physically violent in a matter of minutes, and he absolutely reveled in the oportunity to see any pirate—government sanctioned or not—dead.
Abolities/Powers:
Haki: Conquerer's Haki and Armament Haki exclusively, better with the former than the latter.
Devil Fruit: Mera Mera no Mi (Logia type, fire, precursor to Ace). Has had decades to become adept with the fruit; found on one of several expiditions searching for clues as to the whereabouts of his self-proclaimed mortal enemy Helena "The Siren" Lionne, he recognized it as a gift from some unknown higher power that could help him combat the woman's prowess with her own devil fruit (Mizu Mizu no Mi, water) and consumed it without reporting it to the World Government, at around the age of 30 while he was still a vice admiral. He was heavily reprimanded for doing so but otherwise unpunished as he gave the reason that he intended to use his newfound powers not to strengthen himself but the Marines as a whole. Not the first time and definitely not the last that his charisma would get him out of trouble. Easily as adept as Ace is with the fruit later, if not even moreso, having had decades to master it.
Charisma/speech/manipulation: Slick bastard can talk his way out of any situation, make even the least gullible of people believe any lie he feeds them.
Blades: Trained from his youth by his father, a now deceased Marine Admiral, Vesper can use nearly any weapon with a blade adeptly. Temds toward one-handed weapons to keep one hand free to direct and control his devil fruit abilities.
Relationships:
Helena Lionne (OC): Vesper was an eighteen year old cadet stationed as a guard at Marineford when Helena Lionne plowed through the gates and tossed the severed head of his father at the front steps as a warning (his father, Jackson Magnus, had murdered the pirate captain's first mate without fair trial after taking her prisoner in the middle of negotiations; Vesper was unaware of the details and didn't particularly care to know them, anyway). The forces at Marineford were wholly unprepared for the unexpected assault from the dangerous pirate, and she easily escaped with her ship and the rest of her crew, but not before causing billions of berries in damages and taking the lives of several pursuing Marines. Vesper himself was caught in an explosion set off from a powder keg, resulting in the permanant disfigurement of the left side of his face, neck, shoulder, and upper torso/left arm. He lost his father and several friends and comrades to Helena's vengeance—and hos life's aim became to exact his own vengeance in return. He considers her the most vile pirate he has ever encountered.
Lyon D. Rollo (OC): Lyon knew next to nothing about Vesper when he attacked his ship, and wouldn't learn more for at least two decades. Vesper saw Lyon as nothing more than a tool to use in his hunt for Helena; essentially intended to torture him for information and kill him when his usefulness expired.
Monkey D. Garp: At one time Vesper respected Garp as the pinnacle of what a Marine should be—his superior was a ruthless, powerful presence, responsible even for taking down Gold Roger himself. Vesper, a captain by then in his late twenties to early thirties or so, was present in the crowd at the execution. It was here, after Roger's final words sparked an immediate influx in piracy, that Vesper first approached Garp and all but begged the older man to mentor him. At the time had no knowledge of Garp's close relationship with Helena, only knew that Garp was the only marine that had ever managed to capture the witch. His suspicion of Garp became prevalent when Vesper recognized Lyon D. Rollo and set out to go after the young captain; Lyon bore a striking resemblance in both countenance and namesake to Helena Lionne, and Vesper was vetond certain he had to be her son, and thus a potential source of information. By this point Vesper was an admiral in his late 40s, amd Garp was second in command on his ship when he led the expedition. Vesper killed more than half of Lyon's crew to get to him, before Garp, in an act of insubordination, was unable to restrain himself; he knocked out the admiral with a strong left hook and called for a ceasefire, allowing Lyon and what little remained of his crew to escape his sinking ship on a dinghy. This left Vesper suspicious of Garp, his mentor and one of his closest friends.
Gaspard DesLauriers (OC): A marine captain, possessor of the Mofu Mofu no Mi (Zoan type, morphing physical features, human type only), who would become the permanent second in command of Vesper, and the Admiral's only confidant. Gaspard both feared and respected the Admiral beyond all measure, and assisted heavily from Marineford in the unsanctioned operation that Vesper led to Conch Cove when he finally discovered where Helena had been hiding for all these years.
Karimi Lionne (OC): The granddaughter of Helena, who Vesper discovered when the girl snuck out of her hiding place during the attack on Conch Cove while her grandmother was in a bad position and managed to sever his first mate's achilles tendon with a throwing knife. Her resemblance to Helena was uncanny and it left no question of who she was. Vesper responded by quickly taking the girl hostage and using her as a bargaining chip—he could either kill the girl and take Helena's life by force, or Helena could give herself up willingly and allow her granddaughter a chance at life. Helena gave in immediately when Vesper began to cut into her granddaughter's neck with his bowie knife. Vesper slaughtered and took Helena's head right in front of her, and told her she would be allowed to live—provided she could find her own way off the ruined island. He left her there, content that his retribution had been delivered in spades, content with the fact that he and his entire crew would likely be executed on their return to Marineford, where he would toss the bitch's head at the front doors just as she had done his father's decades earlier.

Theory: ''Badlands'' might be a forgotten past from Margaret White.
(Warning: this theory was only made for fun, please don't take this shit seriously XD)
Hello to everyone, as the title says, I would like to tell you a theory that I've thought after reminding to a conversation I used to have a friend during Filmow website few months ago and one of our themes is about one of the possible reasons that made Margaret White, Carrie's mother to turn into a very religious woman and her whole rage and violent reacts towards sex and a lot of things that she considers dirty and impure in her eyes. According to my friend, one of these reasons could be because in her youth times, she used to do a lot of unhealthy things as drinking, smoking and having sex before marriage and her shaming from the own past, she've drought herself on religion too much, but so seriously until she couldn't realize which is really sinful and which isn't anymore.
And taking this piece of information, I had watched another Sissy's movie named ''Badlands'' (and honestly, didn't see that movie so special as they said. I think it's very overrated.) and by the times I watched it, I got some evidences that could proof this theory and here we're gonna start now:
Well, first of all, we're gonna resume quickly about how does ''Badlands'' narrative works:
The story happens to late 50s. We have two main characters: Holly Sargis and Kit Carruthers. Holly's a 15yo girl that lives into a small and dead-end town from South Dakota, she lives with her dad and a dog because her mom died years ago by pneumonia and one time, she was rolling around the baton until she met Kit, a 25yo greaser and garbageman that was collecting trash when she fell in love for him have a charm and James Dean's mannerisms. Since she took the eyes from that guy, she didn't want to live into ''a boring and bland'' anymore, now she want to live an adventure. A emotional romance in side of that cool guy.
But her dad was against this relationship and made Holly to avoid him. Kit tried to convince, but nothing worked - So, in a furious feeling, he murdered her dad, burned her whole house and then, took her, driving very far away. At first, Holly thought it was like a dream came true, however this dream turned into nightmare and after many stolen lives, Holly was tired and didn't see her once boyfriend in the same light anymore and in the end, both got arrested but Kit's been sentenced to execution, while Holly was exonerated (Even when she didn't deserve ¬¬)
And this was ''Badlands'', now I'll gonna tell you guys my own theory that has connection towards this movie and 76' Carrie.
After having a chance to get a new beginning, Holly changed her name to ''Margaret'' and moved to Chamberlain, where she've converted from religion. However, even living a new life, she've never left her previous traumas and her older shadow as "Serial Killer's girlfriend'' and holding a heaviest guilty and fear from Hell and Eternal Punishment, she worked so hard to purify herself but after to living inside an unhealthy relation to religion, she became fanatic and unable to difference between which is sinful and which isn't.
So, one day, now at early 60's, she met a man named Ralph White, that followed the same radical thoughts and got married, living a ''peaceful" life. In the first days of married woman, Margaret and Ralph laid together, however because from both thinking as they sinned, they prayed as promise to never do again. But in one night, while Margaret was doing domestic stuff, Ralph arrived after job, smelling as whisky (According to Margaret's words on last part from the movie) and then, both did again but this time, she got pregnant and in this pregnancy, came Carrie White. After more complications during the marriage, Ralph met another woman and ran with her, leaving his ex-wife and daughter by themselves. And this where we have Carrie's story and all the abuse she've suffered by her religious mother.
Evidences that follow these connections between the movies:
Same actress: Holly and Carrie were played by the same actress, Sissy Spacek. And as a game towards this fact, I've thought as if you has Sissy as Piper's daughter, so there could have the own Sissy playing Piper's character but as younger version;
Appearence: Red hair and quieter personality to both characters (Holly and Carrie) but to different perspectives. (After looking to both characters, I thought that how long the girl had growing up, more Margaret would notice as how similar Carrie looked like her on youth times and disgusted and raged by her past-self, she thought that punishing Carrie was like punishing her own past as Holly - that girl that because a dangerous passion, killed her dad and most people that nothing had a deal to their issues);
Some Holly's quotes: Still on the first part from ''Badlands'', when Holly was still in love for Kit, she commented a quote about never being noticed by anyone before Kit and that she would rather to ''spend a week to someone that loved her than years of loneliness'' (And when we think about Carrie as character and her relation to school, this quote could remind her a bit);
Margaret's rage and disgust towards anything related to sexuality: If we remember on ''Badlands'', there's a subliminal scene that indicates as Holly and Kit ''laid together'' and after this scene and then, the time that Margaret got pregnant, we consider as Margaret/Holly being so traumatized and ruined mentally that she think all boys would exactly like Kit or Ralph: Or being a serial killer and take Carrie away from her or get Carrie pregnant and leave her to another girl; (Which it can also explain her agressive act after Carrie told her about being invited by Tommy for prom.).
And with all these consequences, Carrie grew up into a depressed and sadder girl that never knew how was having a normal life and fitting on society without taking everything for religion, also someone that never knew how was the feeling to being loved and cared by someone. Her life was definited by violence and cruelty, even when she didn't deserve it.
(And here we finish this theory, sorry if it was too short - I know it wasn't that much but informations enough. Once again, this was made more for fun, don't take it as real serious stuff ^^')

Call me crazy but….
Don’t you think he and Louie look like they could be related somehow? Maybe cousins?
Nah, you got a point, the similarity between these two threw me off when I first saw the episode. I will give in and admit that the two do look like they could be possible relatives.
Tumblr media
However, Jimmy does look a bit older, rendering him as maybe in his late 50s and early 60s while Louie is somewhere in his early 30s.
As cousins though? I can’t imagine that. But what I do believe and just as a theory now, I think Jimmy could be his uncle.
As in Louie’s father’s brother, fitting since when Louie was 6 his father had already died and once he turned 9 with the passing of his mother he was now an orphan.
He had no other relatives who were alive other than Jimmy Walters, Louie’s Uncle.
Who took the role of legal guardian after the court had appointed him to Louie, which Jimmy was not all so happy about now that he had to take care of a 9 year old-
OH I HAVE to write this down as a new headcanon, this is just too god damn cute.
