While the Baatar/Asami friendship is everything I want, I also love the idea of Korra fixating on becoming Baatar's friend partially because she feels guilty for how she kind of had to abandon the non-bender's social crisis and also just because of what was done to him in particular, both by her and his family, so she just laser eye locks him in her sighs like "YOU. I will be your friend." and Baatar is just *kermit looking around in bewilderment meme*

Sooo... the Hacketteers in the ATLA universe?
So for Max I feel like he'd be an airbender. His care-free, go with the flow attitude screams young airbender personalities. His family moves to the fire nation to work for the fire lord when he was a kid and thats when he meets Laura.
Laura is the princess of the fire nation. A fire bender with a knack for lightning-bending. She learned how to do it at a pretty young age, but after accidentally electrocuting Max when they were kids she swore she'd only use it when necessary. She hates her father's tyranny and eventually runs away with Max to start a rebellion in the earth kingdom (and later they join the avatar crew to save the world).
Nick is definitely an airbender. Joyful and open, maybe a bit more shy than some of his fellow benders, but he's more thoughtful and wise for his age. Also Nick deserves a sky-bison bestfriend like Appa and when he joins the group he and his buddy become the best means of travel.
Abi would be a waterbender. Very passive and timid in nature, but a force to be reckoned with when she has to be. She likes to use her bending to make large art pieces and ice sculptures. She becomes bestfriends with Ryan when he moves to the southern water tribe and helps him look after his little sister.
Emma is 100% from the fire nation, but she's a non-bender. I picture her in Ty Lee's shoes: being a street/circus performer, master of Chi blocking, wild and performative, but still strong and able to hold her own. She ran away from her overbearing parents to join a traveling act when she was a teen and eventually joins the earth kingdom rebellion when she meets Max.
Jacob is an earthbender and he gives me major Bolin vibes. Him and Kaitlyn grew up together as orphans in the earth kingdom and looked after each other like siblings. He discovers his powers after her but develops the ability to lava bend much later in life. They meet the rest of the crew after Dylan gets his ass in trouble with the local earth kingdom gang and they have to save him.
Kaitlyn is also an earthbender but she's really good at metal bending so that's all she really does. She and Jacob lost their parents when they were young and they ended up just sticking together. (Kaitlyn likes to joke its cuz she couldn't get rid of him, but inside she cares alot about him). When they join the group she becomes the defacto "mom" and acts as the secondary leader.
Dylan is an earth kingdom refugee who fled to the northern air temple with others when war broke out. He's a genius inventor and has used his knowledge and skills to make life more bearable for him and his people, even invented a new hand for himself since he lost his as a child. He discovers that the last avatar may still be alive and sets out to find him, eventually succeeding.
Ryan is obviously that Avatar. Born as a waterbender he soon discovers he's the next avatar. But when he fears for his sister's safety and as war breaks out, he runs away with his baby sister to the southern water tribe where he hides his identity and tries to live a "normal" life. Until a certain squirrely-headed inventor boy comes along.
...
I could probably keep going but this is already too long lol

Spoken Truth (Ming-Hua x Ghazan)
Mingzan, because Mingzan. For my fellow Ming Hua x Ghazan fans. A fun, smutty one-shot. NSFW/18+ but no triggers. For those who prefer to read it on AO3, link is here. Story is included under the cut.

Spoken Truth
StrawberryCatBeans: Not only do I and my co-author Haefaciel have our Tahnorra ship in common, but we also love Mingzan, and just as we did for Tahnorra, we put our minds together for this delightful work you see before you. We actually started this years ago and are pleased as punch to finally be able to bring it to the eyes of our fellow Avatar and Mingzan fans. Enjoy!
HaefacielSmilingTitan: It was a pleasure to roleplay Ghazan and Ming Hua because they both had awesome character designs, and watching these baddies kick ass with lavabending and water arm tendrils was entertaining to watch. They work so well as a team. Bolin’s comment about an “unspoken” attraction between the two characters planted the idea that hey, maybe Ghazan had feelings for Ming Hua a long time ago and now he can express that interest. We gladly had these characters enjoy some loving because villains need love too, lol.
Avatar the Last Airbender/Legend of Korra does not belong to us and is the property of DiMartino, Koneitzko, and all other copyright holders of the franchise. No profit is made off this, we're just Avatar fans creating fun content for other Avatar fans! Feedback and reblogs are always appreciated.
I have another Ming Hua story, called Arming Oneself, that happens during her childhood/teenagehood. It’s a short 3-chapter story that can be seen as a prequel to this though I wrote the two projects separately. Reading it is not required, but if you like Ming Hua, there it is because there’s little enough Ming Hua content in the world.
Content Warning – NSFW/18+ content (all consensual) Ming Hua/Ghazan
The story is set after Bolin made his observations about Ming Hua and Ghazan and their unspoken attraction.
o0o0o0o
Ming Hua rose from the campfire after dinner, in more than a mood for a bath after their recent tussle with Mako and Bolin and their time with the Earth Queen. She glanced over at P’Li. "Want to join?” the Waterbender asked her friend.
"Not tonight, but thanks."
Ming Hua shrugged and nodded, going over to the pond that lay just beyond the trees and used her water-arms to start stripping herself as she thought about how Ghazan looked at her over dinner, remembering what Bolin had said about them. It was surprising how much truth there was in the young man’s words, at least when she was concerned. She’d admired Ghazan for years, and it felt good being around him again, even just as a friend.
She’d been lonely in the volcano, and had felt almost overwhelmed being with her friends again, and had chalked it off to the high of freedom. But it’d been a while now, and she still felt the same thrill around Ghazan.
Now stripped and her clothes in a safe place, Ming Hua slipped into the water, eyes closing as she felt her element envelop her. With the warm dusty air, the water was a cool welcome, and she felt her muscles relax as she floated in the water for a bit of time.
As Ghazan reclined near the fire, he thought about the teenage Earthbender's words about unspoken attraction. Had the kid just been joking, and his prediction was a silly game that turned out to be an amazing coincidence? Or had he seen something between Ming Hua and himself? Either way, his thoughts about Ming Hua seemed to take a sharper focus ever since that comment and how Ming Hua responded, looking away from him. Yet she seemed to like being around him and they got along. It was confusing. Ever since Bolin made his comment, there seemed to be a bit of a shift between the camaraderie he had with his longtime friend.
He rose to his feet and made his way through the woods, hearing the quiet splashing of the pond. He paused, realizing that purposefully coming across someone taking a bath could be – was – pervy.
Before joining the Red Lotus, Ghazan had wooed a few women. His relationships with those women didn't last long, but he knew what things to say and do that were likely to make a woman melt. Ming Hua wasn’t like most women, though. Would she find a pick-up line charming?
As Ming Hua started moving water along her body, closing her eyes and enjoying herself, she heard the faint crack of a twig being stepped on and spun in Ghazan's direction, ice-blades coming from her water-arms and stopping within inches of him as she saw who it was.
"What are you doing here?" she demanded.
"I just wanted to take a bath too," Ghazan said, giving Ming Hua a non-threatening smile, and raising his hands. He briefly saw her breasts and toned curves, but now wasn't quite the time to admire her physique while she had ice blades drawn on him.
"But... we don't do that," she said, an edge of confusion in her tone. As most people did, she bathed either by herself or around those of the same sex. Not out of distaste for her brothers in the Red Lotus, but as with most people, it was ingrained into her by society.
"That may be true, but Zaheer is always preaching about a new era with no governments and how we are all equal. Men and women should work together and see each other as partners and all that. Who needs gender roles?" he said, parroting some of Zaheer’s words in a light tone. “… Besides, we’re friends. You know I wouldn’t hurt you and besides, you’re in a pond. I’d have to be pretty stupid to try anything there.” He gave her a warm smile.
She wanted to argue for modesty, but Ghazan did have a point. And how long had they known one another? It was a big enough pond, right? "I suppose," she said, conceding the argument to him. "Just let me know when you need the soap and I'll toss it to you."
She then moved into the deeper water and washed herself, turned away from Ghazan, yet she couldn't help but watch him out of the corner of her eye as she guided the soap and water along her body. He sat down beside the pond to take off his shoes before standing up to take off his shirt. Then he slid off the rest of his clothing, bundling them in a loose pile near her clothing, and she had to fight back the urge to stare at him full-on.
He waded into the water until he was chest-high and dunked his head. She heard a sigh of satisfaction after he broke the surface of the water, shaking his head.
“Hmmm. The water feels nice,” he commented. She was blushing from the glimpse of Ghazan's privates... he had a cock that matched his body, long and thick. It caused an ache of arousal in her, and she knew she'd be masturbating with a water whip later. She washed herself and then tossed him the soap, now simply massaging herself, guiding her water arms to work out the tension in her back.
Ghazan watched her, admiring what he was able to see. Her back was pale under the moonlight, and he wondered how it would feel if he ran his hand along it.
"You know, while I was imprisoned in a cage on that wooden boat in the middle of the ocean, I would often think about you when it rained."
She smiled a little at that. "And your face would have been a welcome sight in my cell. I was surrounded by lava, you by water. Funny how that worked out." He was gratified to see that she seemed more relaxed now.
"Being incarcerated for so long did make me think about you. I have desired to be with you before we got caught trying to abduct the Avatar. I thought I'd never get the chance but look at us now. Free from our prisons, naked in a pond together..." he stopped the sentence, smirking, trying not to be too lecherous, but he was sure he was failing. Dammit, it'd been a long time since he'd been laid.
"To be honest, I never thought that you might feel for me that way. I'm an armless woman, few men want that as a partner and the ones that seek out women like me are just… ugh." Ming Hua whispered. "I've admired you for your determination to master your element and life, and... I had the feeling that you respected me before and then Bolin said it and I caught you looking at me..." She was blushing now.
"I admire how you can use your Waterbending, arms or not. As for these idiots who only see an armless woman… well, I've seen you kick way more ass than most men who had arms. You’re pretty cool." He slowly made his way closer to Ming Hua. “I have a lot of respect for you.”
"But do you... really want me? Do you find me attractive at all?" She noticed what he was doing, and took a shy step back.
"Yes, I want you. You're a strong, beautiful woman. I enjoy your sarcastic wit. During the clear starry nights in my prison, I would picture your face in the constellations and I would miss you terribly."
"Oh, Ghazan." She had a misty smile on her face, and when he stepped forward, she did not move away. her heart was pounding from nervousness and excitement as Ghazan's biceps became more visible in the moonlight. Oh, to have arms so she could run her hands along these biceps…
"Ming Hua," Ghazan murmured as he reached to cup her face, leaning down to give her a surprisingly chaste kiss. She melted into the kiss, leaning into her would-be lover, her breasts coming into contact with his chest. His other arm wrapped around her as he deepened the kiss, seeking entry by prodding her lips with his tongue.
She felt the gentle probing at her lips and relaxed them, letting him pull her close. As she felt the arm wrap around her, she complied with it, allowing him to pull her body flush to his own, so she was able to feel his manhood against the inside of her hip.
Ming-Hua tasted like water to him and he loved it. His hands roved over her curves, enjoying the feel of her. He broke the kiss, groaning softly when he felt his manhood against her flesh.
With a shift of her hips, she ground against his pelvis, getting a good estimate of its size as she regarded him with a small smirk. "Being alone in prison with no pussy must have been hard, huh?"
"Fffff, yes." he groaned as his hand grabbed a breast and kneaded it carefully.
"Then... why don't we make up for lost time? Think of the things you've wanted to do to me while you were in prison, Let's do them." she purred. He stared at her for several moments, like a man who’d just been told that he won the lottery.
“Yes. Oh gods, yes,” Ghazan groaned, his voice thick with desire as he realized that he was finally about to deepen this attraction that was now spoken. She smirked and wrapped herself around Ghazan, her legs around his middle, and her water arms wrapped around his neck and shoulders.
“Baby… you have no idea how this makes me feel,” Ghazan whispered, cradling the back of her head with his hand as he pulled them out of the water. There was some nice and thick grass along the pond, and she shivered as she felt the blades on her back as she was lowered to it. Ghazan was a glorious sight in the moonlight, naked, his cock becoming even thicker in the warm evening air, and she felt a fresh stab of arousal as she imagined how he would feel against her, and within her. Under the moonlight, her water arms looked ethereal, glinting as they reflected the moon while they writhed around his neck and shoulders.
“Can I taste it first?” he asked, gaze moving downward. She gave out a velvety laugh of delight and nodded, loosening her grip so that he could position himself. He descended upon her hungrily, spreading her open with two fingers so that he could admire and taste her folds, feeling her shiver and clench as he slid a finger and then another inside. She sighed in enjoyment as his tongue flicked across her clit, massaging it as her thighs pressed against his cheeks.
His cock ached, but for the moment, Ming Hua was the star of the show and he treated her as such, loving up on her, using his fingers and mouth to the best of his ability, hearing her muffled squeal as she reached the peak of her pleasure, grinding herself against his face. He felt her water arms writhe against him, his cock throbbing afresh as he tasted her juices, continuing to work her with his fingers in a languid manner.
“Mmm. You enjoyed that, didn’t you,” he asked with a knowing purr as he raised his head to look down at her. The moonlight washed out the color in her pale skin, but her cheeks were rosy.
"I couldn't even touch myself in prison. Without water-arms, I was very bored, indeed." she moaned, welcoming his attention.
"Well, I'm glad I could lend you a hand. Let me know and I’ll do it for you any time." he joked before his tone became more serious. She looked beautiful in her afterglow, her eyelids fluttering, her breasts moving slightly with each breath.
She smirked at that and shivered as he sat up, his erection in view. It ached for attention, thick and hard. She rose to reach with a water tendril, giving it a firm stroke. It twitched under her touch, and she wrapped the water around him, letting the smooth appendage glide along his heated flesh. It wasn’t the first organ she had seen, but the first one she would deign to allow inside of her. It was a bit silly that she should feel so nervous as she’d not been a teenager for a good while, but a first time was a first time. At least she had found a worthy partner.
"Mmm... like that?" she whispered, seeing how he arched into that, oozing a bead of precum at the tip as she gave his erection a firm squeeze.
“Oh… yes. Way better than my hand, even if the water's cool." He wiggled his hip forward, highlighting the taut planes of his lower stomach and thighs.
"Yes, that feels good. Keep doing that." he grinned. She grinned and did just as he asked, wiggling her body closer to his. "Did you fantasize about me when we were in prison?" she whispered.
"How could I not fantasize about you?" he purred, reaching up to caress her face with his fingers. She leaned her head into his hand.
"And is this... living up to your expectations?" she smiled as she sat up. She let the water slide away from his cock before lowering her head to start kissing and licking him, tasting the warm, clean flesh, pushing back the foreskin so she could suck on the head.
"Ah! Yes." he groaned. Plenty enough fantasies to be had. A few about P'Li, and even Zaheer, but most of his fantasies centered around Ming Hua. Water snaked up and around his balls, giving him a massage, and he had to resist the urge to just shove her head down on him.
“If you keep doing that, I’m going to…” His orgasm was coming up on him faster than he’d expected. Probably from being pent-up for so long.
"I do believe that is the point," she quipped before she increased her ministrations, giving him his long-awaited release, which she happily swallowed, her head bobbing up and down. His head lolled forward as he watched her, running his fingers along her dark hair. It was so erotic to watch her lick him clean, and he felt his flesh stir to life again.
"Do you want to go further?" he asked. She nodded at that as she kissed her way up his chest, taking delight in the well-sculpted flesh, feeling his heartbeat as she kissed his solar plexus. She kissed up his neck and the side of his face.
"Ghazan, I would have no one but you to take me..." she whispered into his ear, happy that he was asking her, even though she would have let him do it anyway.
She felt his hands caress her sides as he eased her onto the grass, and she felt her heart pound a bit out of nervousness. She looked up at him as he pried her knees apart, caressing the inside of the joints with his thumbs as he did so, giving her a reassuring smile.
“I've thought so often of this. Of you like this, waiting for me, wanting to receive… and share… my passion. Fuck, but you're gorgeous, and I can't believe I'm finally getting to do this. This is a dream come true." His hands slid along her body, feeling her writhe happily in response.
“You’re not quite there yet…” She lifted her pelvis, wiggling it at him. “There’s one more thing to do, big boy.”
He laughed at that before his hands slid to her hips and he positioned himself at her quivering womanhood. He half expected to wake up and find out that this was all just one intense dream. She looked at him, lifting her chin in a gesture of invitation.
He took it, plunging forward, feeling her gasp and arch against him. When he was firmly ensconced within her, he gave her hips a firm squeeze.
“You good?” he asked, feeling her squirm around a bit.
“You’re so big, so thick,” she breathed, and he felt her clench around him, her lithe form responding to its girthy intruder.
“Few compliments please a man as much as that,” he replied glibly as he rolled his hips, causing her to give out a quiet keen.
“Ghazan… Ghazan…” She arched as he picked up the pace, shoving his thick flesh within her previously untried tunnel. There was an edge of pain, but the more he moved against her, the more that faded, her body acclimating to and then welcoming the intruder. She could sometimes feel the ridge of the head as it moved against her strained vaginal muscles, wondering how something could feel so good.
No wonder Zaheer and P’Li liked to sneak off to do these sorts of things. Looks like she would be doing the same in the future…
When he orgasmed and they kissed and cuddled for a bit, she roused him again and climbed on top, using her water arms for leverage.
“I’m never going to get tired of this,” the lavabender groaned as he thrust up into her, her head and breasts shaking with each jab. He reached up to grab one of her tits, massaging it and feeling her grind against him in an appreciative response.
“Fuck, I hope not,” came her gasping response before he rewarded her with a particularly sharp thrust that had her seeing stars.
If he could choose any one day in his life to relive over and over, this would be it, Ghazan mused to himself as he lay there with his lover who was loosely spooned to his side. One of his hands slid along her body idly, taking comfort in her presence. Even though he knew she did not register touch through her water arms like one would with flesh arms, he still took comfort in the water arms that were sliding along his body. He knew she had some sense of his form and skin, and whatever else she might manipulate with her water arms, and if she enjoyed touching him, then he wasn't going to stop her.
“I suppose we have to return to camp sometime,” Ming Hua said with a small sigh. “Only I don’t want to sleep alone…” Zaheer and P'Li shared their tent. Now that she was lovers with Ghazan, why sleep by herself, especially when his body was so warm...
"You're welcome to share my bed." he smiled. "We should get back to camp before Zaheer or P'Li come looking for us."
She nodded and slowly rose to her feet, looking glorious in the starlight with her naked body. She smiled and looked down at him, sprawled out on the grass. "I'm tempted to climb on top of you." she teased.
"And ride my ‘drill’ again? I think we would both enjoy that," he quipped.
She let out a soft, velvety chuckle at that. "Well, there's always tomorrow night," she said sweetly.
He grinned as he stood up and started to dress himself, Ming Hua doing the same. She filled her water gourds and the two of them ambled back to the campsite. Zaheer was meditating, P'Li was not seen as she was in Zaheer's tent. “Night!” Ming Hua called out. Zaheer gave a brief nod of acknowledgment, and she let Ghazan take her blankets and put them in his tent, mixing them with his own for added warmth.
The two of them cuddled, and she felt warm and happy in his arms. However later on it started to become warm in the tent, and her shirt started to feel too warm for her, especially with Ghazan shirtless. In the tent she did not have her water arms, so she tried to wiggle out of it without waking him up but was not successful as he rolled over, staring at her blearily.
"I'm hot," she whispered. "I was trying to take off my shirt and didn't mean to wake you up. Would you mind taking it off me?" Under the shirt, she had her tank top.
"Sure." He sat up and helped remove her shirt, placing a few kisses along her neck as he did so. "Is that better?"
"Mmm, yes." She smiled and laid back down, resting her head against his arm. She felt his hand gently slide along her side, relaxing under it.
“I’m glad I came to see you tonight,” Ghazan said. “After what that kid said, it was stuck in my head, and I came to realize that there was a reason why it was stuck there in the first place, right?”
“Out of the mouths of babes…” she said, shaking her head. She and Ghazan were no longer young. But they could still make up for lost time, come what may.

top 5 atla characters? top 5 lok characters?
ooh this is a fun one!! sorry if i end up writing way too much here lol
ATLA
1. Zuko - So much of my taste in fictional characters has undoubtedly been influenced by him, lol. An angsty boy who was abused and indoctrinated and who struggled so much, but broke free and realized the truth? Who went from trying to capture the avatar to joining him in achieving peace and balance for the world, and who revealed that underneath all of that anger and pain he's really a kindhearted, socially awkward dork? His growth is just amazing and I love him so much.
2. Katara "I will never, ever turn my back on people who need me" of the Southern Water Tribe is such a great character and I love how her rage at the world's injustice fuels her empathy, compassion, and drive to do as much about it as she can. She fought against misogyny to become a master waterbender. She saved an impoverished Fire Nation village from tyranny. And she's just so loving and optimistic despite everything she's been through.
3. Azula - Delivered SO many of the most iconic villain lines ever. "Don't flatter yourself, you were never even a player." "Maybe you should worry less about the tides, who already made up their mind about killing you, and more about me, who's still mulling it over". "I'm about to celebrate becoming an only child." She's such a fun villain. She's also fascinating to me because, as many people seem to forget, she is younger than Zuko and was raised in the same horrible environment as him. I love seeing her character be explored more in fics.
4. Sokka - The best possible way to write a comic relief character! He has so many hilarious and memorable moments. "Can your science explain why it rains?" "My first girlfriend turned into the moon". The fucking cactus juice. But he's also strategic and intelligent, and Sokka's Master is such a great episode for showing how the gaang would be incomplete without him. He has such great dynamics with all of them and the scene in The Runaway where he talks with Toph about Katara filling in the void that was left by their mom makes me so emotional.
5. Kyoshi - Okay, I won't say much about her because not everyone has read the novels and they're 95% of the reason she's up here for me. But seriously, her story in the novels is so cool and she's such a good character in them. She's every bit as fierce and badass as we see in the show, but we also see that she's compassionate and doesn't want anyone else to suffer the same hardships that she has. She has her own struggles and growth before becoming the badass that killed Chin the Conqueror and founded the Kyoshi Warriors. And she's bisexual and has a girlfriend!
LOK
...Okay, I won't write an essay here like I just did for ATLA. Partially because I don't really have the same passion for LOK as for ATLA, but I do still love the characters! I think my top 5 would be:
1. Korra - Idk how people can hate her, her personality reminds me so much of Zuko and I love her for that. I also think she manages to have the best character arc in the show, and she's a bicon!
2. Bolin - He's just so fun and I love his dynamics with the rest of the krew! And lavabending is so damn cool and I wish it had been explored more. I also really wish we saw some flashbacks of his and Mako's backstory because it's such an interesting concept.
3. Jinora - Something about her is just neat, her personality feels so unique among the LOK cast and I'm so proud of her for becoming an airbending master.
4. Asami - No way I could leave out the other bicon in this series! I feel like she did kinda get done dirty by the writing and, like with Bolin, I particularly really wish we got some backstory flashbacks for her. But I do enjoy her arc with her dad in books 1 and 4 and love how intelligent and creative she can be.
5. Kai - I really wish we saw more of him in the show, his backstory and personality are great and he and Jinora are so cute together.

Hey Bolin just wanted to ask if I could get something soft and fluffy with cuddling and warm drinks please thank you 🥰
Yes of course!
Do you remember that other night when it was SUPER cold out during our walk in Republic City? Thankfully we had our sweaters (you look AMAZING in a scarf, by the way) but we still had to cut our walk short because of how cold it was!
Then when we finished our walk, Pabu was at the door waiting for us. You were right, he did know that it would be extra chilly! Oh well, it was nice to stretch our legs. Then you had the best idea ever, some nice spiced tea would be great for warming us up. But you yelled, "Not it!" first lol real mature. Okay, I'm just mad you said it before me haha. I think it was my turn to make the tea anyways.
While the water was boiling, you found a pretty warm blanket, I was thankful for that. You looked so adorable snuggled up on the couch under the blanket. I found our favorite cups to use for tea. Mine had a little sun design, I was glad you believed me when I said it helps me think warm thoughts!
When the tea was ready, you braved the chilled air by lifting part of the blanket to let me in. That was so brave of you lol! But yeah, once I joined you under the blankets with our tea, we were much more comfortable. I think it was super nice of you to open the window curtains while I made the tea, I din't even notice that you had done that until I sat down. It let us have a quiet view of the city at night while we warmed up, thank you for that.
I think after a while, you fell asleep on my shoulder. You mumbled an apology or something but I want to sya again, I didn't mind it at all. That was such a cozy night. You can fall asleep on my shoulder anytime.

"Come on the waters fine!" You yelled out to Mako who was setting up a area for you both on the grass. You both were at Asami's lake house for Fourth Of July . You two decided to relax outside for little while the other two couples did their own things inside. "Y.N you're not even wearing a bathing suit to go swimming right now. " he explains.
You raise a eyebrow. "Who says I need clothes then" you teased. Hitting him with shock. His face turned red. "Y.N" he only says in a serious tone. "I'm joking. Relax! I rather not have your friends and brother see me naked. Just you Is good" you say smiling. He let's out a small sigh of relief. You took off your outfit and wore your under clothing as you swam around. Minutes later he takes off his clothes but tanktop and boxers. Joins with you . Causing small water fights and wrestling in water. Till you both started kissing each other. Then the others join in hearing them all way from the house. "Man can you both laugh any louder ? " Fire princess Misa laughs. But suddenly you splash her and she jumps in after you. Korra and Asami decided to steal Makos spot and take the lounge chairs to tan and talk. Bolin goes after Mako in the water. Seeing who can swim fastest.
All in all. You had a wonderful week at Asamis lake house!
Even shared a nice time with Mako in bed because you were scared of the fireworks noise. He made you hear music loud enough to calm you. Then made love to you till you slept peacefully on his chest.
((Sorry if eh bad.. trying to do more of these for yall. Next one is Kaen and Mako one . But this one for Yn and mako lol. )

Had an idea for the Avatar Bolin AU: what if the Beifongs & Zaofu are like a sanctuary, of sorts, if the Red Lotus still occurs?
Basically the arrival at Zaofu is the same, and Lin and Su still make peace. although I think unlike Korra, I can see Bolin getting more involved as a calmer mediator between the two of them & maybe gives them the space to still have their fight but also forces them to sit down and actually talk to each other about their issues.
He strikes up a friendship with Opal and Wei, to which he forms an immediate connection too. Bolin spends increasingly more time with Wei and they realize they've fallen for each other and begins a romantic relationship that ends up being very intimate but also very grounded. Mako being Mako is very distrusting/suspcious, but he eventually warms up (maybe Su and/or Lin privately talks to him?) And of course, Wing is one of the Wingmen along with Opal.
Regarding Wei & Opal, perhaps they're possibly the two individuals who Bolin feels he can be pretty open with? Like, Mako is very paranoid, Tenzin is basically on Dad mode, Korra and Lin will throw themselves at anyone trying to actively harm him... so with Opal and Wei he can sort of feel comfortable enough that he can talk to them about anything without the underlying anxiety that they'll freak out or tell him "I'm doing what's best for you/it's for your own good"? And like, Wei emphasizes his point that he loves Bolin, NOT the Avatar (Opal backs her brother up on this notion). Wei couldn't care less about Bolin's status at all. The three's relationship ends up being one of mutual, calm emotional support & trust; and considering how close the two are with Su, she totally ends up adopting Bolin into the Beifong family. Maybe she's like a mother/cool aunt figure?
What do you think of all this?
Oh my gosh that sounds so great! Yeah, i think that most of the plot of this AU would go quite similarly to the og show, so there would definitely be a stop in Zaofu. Lmao I think Bolin would either do really well with mediating the conflict between Lin and Su or make it 50 times worse.
Honestly the idea of Zaheer the renowned short king having to lug Bolin's beefy body around like he did with Korra is really funny to me.
Suyin would absolutely look at this lost puppy himbo of an Avatar and go: is anyone gonna give him the warmth and safety of a mother's love? No? Gotta fo everything by myself here.
But yeah, I can certainly see Wei giving Bolin a more "grounded" relationship than the rest of the Krew, maybe with the exception of Asami. Since in this AU I'm thinking of Korra maybe being Katara's apprentice, who joined the Krew to basically bodyguard the Avatar.
I think Wei and Bolin's dynamic would be kinda similar to waht I envision for them around the og show. With them bickering and butting heads at first, due to the fact that they see thtough one another's bullshit, before eventually coming to respect, admire and like each other. And then fall in love.
Both of them not being very well socialised would make them incredibly awkward when flirting, I think?
I think they can also both bond over the experience of being "handled" by other people. They'd defined try to support one another in becoming more independent and the idea of Wei being Avatar Bolin's biggest supporter is really cute. Think Katara threatening to beat up anyone whose mildly mean to Aang lol.
This honestly adds even more comedy to the sparring scene in B3. Because Wei seeing the Avatar, a literal demigod, with the power of the 4 elements and going: "I'm gonna throw a meteorite at this loser" is both in character and hillarious.
Also while pondering Bolin as the Avatar I remembered that this monstrosity actually exists in the canon show.

for the meta meme: I noticed how you write Bolin's tendency to ramble. it is very ic ! I was wondering if you have any thoughts about this.
❖ || send me a topic to write meta about my muse on!
Tumblr media
Oh gosh, thank you so much!
I guess for any character I write for, I really like to pay attention to those little things they do with their speech when I watch back for reference (because it's okay to rewatch things to keep your characters fresh in your brain!) — even their hesitation markers, where they speed up/slow down, how much they talk, when they interject/join conversations, how they speak when they're specific emotions like disappointed, bashful, excited, etc etc. When I'm typing, I try to also hear them say the words I type in the my head, and if I don't like how it sounds/can't hear them say it, I backspace lol.
Especially with characters like Bolin and Wu, they have BIIIIIG personalities and wear their emotions on their sleeves, so it's fairly easy for me to capture their emotions in order for me to write replies lol.
With Bolin specifically, I like to think that his mouth is faster than his brain — very much talk now, think later. And then when he actually has a moment to understand what he said, he backpedals a little to make sure that he's actually understood in his (very fast) train of thought. When he's trying to be thoughtful, his speech is slower, but he also gets caught up in his feelings which will make him deter and ramble again.
He also likes to just say things for funsies, no matter how absurd they are — if the situation calls for it (some of the time). Like who the heck exclaims "I'm a boy!" when Meelo says he's going to take the boys to the boys' side of Air Temple Island? Like, Bo, you goober; people know this already — why did you have to say that lol

Everyone in the Krew is Problematic
I was inspired to go on this rant by someone who recently brought up a question in a server I’m in, asking why so many people in the fandom seem to hate Mako and Makorra and why. This wouldn’t be the first time I defend Mako and it most likely won’t be the last, but it might be the first time I tear him and everyone else in the Krew down in the process, only to bring them back up. Hear me out though.
I think I’ve totally accepted that a lot of people in this fandom will always hate Mako and that I will have to perpetually defend him, I understand that this is the relationship I’ve chosen with this world. But what I still will never understand are the reasons why people hate/dislike him because compared to how much they love other characters in the Krew who honestly aren’t that much better than him (in some cases, even worse!), it doesn’t make any sense.
Let me also preface this by saying, I love these characters with all my heart and soul, probably more than I should love fictional characters, but this is the life I live and with that being said, I am going to tear them apart just to prove a point. Okay, here we go.
MAKO
Most of his detractors list the usual criticisms, which are valid when isolated. He cheated on Asami, he lied to Korra, he was a terrible boyfriend and essentially he treated the women he claimed to love or care about horribly. Gee, it’s almost like the man was a teenager with no experience in having long-lasting, healthy relationships and was raised in the streets by gangmembers while doing anything to survive and provide for his younger sibling after seeing his parents killed right in front of him and suddenly being orphaned…
I think Mako has been torn down enough, so I won’t get too deep into the tearing down part for him. It really does baffle me how someone can claim to be woke and not comprehend how someone coming from poverty could possibly be a product of their environment. Like, does everyone think that poor people automatically have hearts of gold and turn out like Little Orphan Annie? Why are people surprised that when someone has a shitty life, they might do shitty things?
Also, sooo many people love Zuko, who actively tried to cause harm to Aang, Katara and Sokka numerous times, and sympathize with his troubled past. But like, sure Zuko had an abusive father and his mother peaced out of his life for whatever reasons but at least he had his uncle. Mako had his parents for maybe 8 years before they were murdered in front of him and then had...no one for the next 10 years? Except for Bolin, sure, but no other parental figure in his life. Dude literally had to become him and his brother’s own parent and joined a gang to survive, and after all that, the worst he does is acts as a bad boyfriend toward Korra and Asami and he is instantly thrown to the wolves. Something doesn’t add up. It’s just...I don’t get it.
Yes, the way he treated people was bad, but people can grow? That’s a thing humans can do. And he was a teenager, my god. No, we cannot allow our past to be an excuse for how we treat others, but we have to be aware that there is a growth process to being human. And being human in and of itself, isn’t pretty. You think Mako is problematic? Don’t get me started on your fave.
KORRA
Ok, I love this woman to death but she is ridiculously problematic. She pursued someone in a relationship and essentially forced Mako to cheat on Asami by kissing him against his will, that’s already pretty awful and shows a lack of empathy on her part, also kissing people without their consent is no bueno. But also I just have to say it for the people who might not know this. One of the fundamental reasons why Makorra didn’t work was because KORRA WAS ABUSIVE. Okay? It wasn’t just that Mako was inadequate at relationships and didn’t know how to people, it wasn’t that she was secretly confused and wanting Asami the entire time (biphobia at it’s best) one of the main problems in the pairing was that Korra was crazy abusive towards Mako. Seriously, why don’t I see this more often in those discussions??
If we need examples, I have dozens. Honestly, it’s really easy to see how terrible Korra was to Mako, I’d actually argue that she treated him worse than he treated her. I mean, they were both terrible to one another, but in Korra’s case she went through the motions of being completely infatuated with your first teenage crush, getting with said crush, then crashing and burning once you realize that you have no idea how to treat a romantic partner so after the butterflies wear off you subject them to all the wonderful aspects of your anger issues. Not only did she scream at Mako during every argument they had, she also threatened him with bodily harm if she got really angry. Remember how their relationship crashed and burned in Book 2? Here are the things that Korra did during that time. Let me reiterate, this was not okay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mako is visibly shaken by this!
This woman burst into her boyfriend’s place of work and violently kicked his desk out from in front of him with all his coworkers present. That is not normal behavior. That is a red flag. And after she came back, had amnesia or whatever and forgot they broke up after that scene, let’s not forget that Mako was legitimately Afraid to break up with her again. Korra made her partner frightened that they might suffer bodily harm if they upset her. Again, and I can’t stress this enough, this is not okay!
The little scene in Book 3 when Korra is lifting Mako like 100 feet off the ground with airbending while he’s screaming in fear just to make Asami laugh is cute, right? I’ll admit, I loved that little moment too, it’s one of the only instances of Korrasami development that we got, but also, there were sooo many things wrong with that scene lol. Not only does Korra terrify Mako for literally no reason, it’s also sort of just her continuing to exercise some degree of power over him for her own amusement. Almost like a subtle reminder to him saying, “I am stronger than you in every way and I can break your femur like a twig if I wanted to… but I won’t, so look how much fun we’re having!”
Now of course, there are reasons why Korra acts like this. She was isolated for almost her entire life and never learned how to treat people and be around people. The Avatar is human because they must live amongst the people they protect and that helps them develop empathy and cherish life. The White Lotus deprived her of that fundamental aspect of her duty as the Avatar and it showed throughout the beginning of the series. Clearly, she was young, didn’t see how her actions could negatively affect others and hurt the feelings of not just her partner but also friends and family (she was really awful towards a lot of people in her life!). But as the series went on, we see her having less outbursts and learning to control her temper more.
One can only assume that she does not have the same behavior with Asami because for one, I don’t think Asami would play that shit, she seems like she would electrocute a bitch in a heartbeat and not hesitate if needed, but also Korra is not the same shitty partner she used to be as a teenager. Again, kids do stupid things. Adults do stupid things. And we learn and we grow. Korra will probably make some more mistakes in her relationship with Asami. I don't think anyone can have one bad relationship and suddenly learn all the lessons they can from it and have a perfect one the next go around. I can totally picture Korra losing her temper and raising her voice at Asami if she gets frustrated and forgets who she’s dealing with. Managing anger issues is hard, I know this from experience, and it doesn’t magically get easier. Of course, if Korra does pop off, Asami would definitely put her in her place because she’s a bad bitch who doesn’t take anyone’s shit, next character.
ASAMI
You know her, you love her, you fantasize about her and you probably have her on your list of fictional characters you would totally bang if you had the chance (I know I do), yes, even your best girl is problematic. It’s interesting to me that a lot of people sympathize with Asami and very few openly criticize her (so few that I’ve never seen anyone say a bad thing about her). What’s there to criticize though? The poor girl was cheated on by Mako, had her feelings disregarded by Korra, who claimed to be her friend but pursued her then-boyfriend behind her back and then made up for it by simping for her for the rest of her life? Also her mom was murdered when she was just 6 years old, her father threatened to kill her once and physically abused her, then died right after they started repairing their relationship, essentially making her an orphan at the ripe age of 22. Suffice it to say, Asami has been through it.
So, how could she be problematic, you ask? Why, of course, through the classic Bryke technique of romance progression in storylines called Kissing People Without Their Consent
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To be honest, I did gloss over this with Korra, simply because there were sooo many other issues with that woman and I just couldn’t go through every single one in as much detail but that doesn’t negate how serious this whole sneak attack kissing thing is. Sure, Asami is very emotional and lonely and sort of desperate too, (it's a little sad, really) but Mako is clearly uncomfortable and completely caught off guard by the kiss. This is also the second time this happens to him in the series! There are a couple factors that might contribute to why Asami does this and acts this way, maybe Korra’s general awfulness rubbed off on her (don’t make a dirty joke) but this is still wrong.
AND that’s...pretty much it. Kissing people without their permission is a big no no, though. Not wanting to gloss over that, but Asami really is a good person who just did a not-so-great thing. Getting burned by Mako twice probably made her a little less inclined to be as forward with anyone though, and it looks like she now takes her time and is patient in her relationship with Korra. It even seems like Asami is the only person Korra is afraid to upset, as Korra does seem more gentle and calm when around her. And who knows? Maybe Asami living a life where a majority of the time she got whatever she wanted when she wanted it might have also influenced her to be more assertive or even imposing within her relationships.
If anything, those three fools getting into relationships with each other just showed how not ready they were to be in relationships in the first place and also how not okay they were.
BOLIN
Originally I titled this as “Everyone in the Krew is problematic (except Bolin)” but then I remembered that Bolin totally kissed a woman without her consent so I deleted the shit out of that!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This asshole looks genuinely pleased with himself after essentially assaulting Ginger. Not a good look.
Sure, Bolin is baby. He will always be baby to me. But that does not erase the fact that he also actively supported a fascist dictator. Not only was the kissing without consent thing bad, but there’s also that. No matter how many times people around him warned him about the fact that he was on the wrong side of things, that he was helping someone who was putting people into concentration camps...Bolin wanted to believe the best of Kuvira. He ignored obvious signs that the woman was a dictator committing human rights violations like crazy and you know, there’s gotta be a reason for that too.
Maybe Bolin wanted to feel like he was doing something good for once. When you think about it, with his role as the comic relief in the Krew, and sort of constantly being infantilized by his older brother, I wouldn’t be surprised if the man developed some insecurity in his ability to do anything good or useful for anyone without screwing it up in some way. In Kuvira’s army, it seemed like he was actually taken seriously, he felt like he was doing something that mattered. Korra had being the Avatar, Asami had her business and mindblowing philanthropy (honestly, her ability to be as charitable as she is profitable is insane) and Mako had his police work (ACAB, tho). Bolin had...the role of being a joke. A superficial actor. A former pro-bending meathead.
Bolin lived his entire life following after his brother that once they were adults and Mako finally decided to live his own life for once, it left Bolin completely lost. And lost young men are perfect recruits for fascists.
Tumblr media
So, in conclusion, my whole reasoning behind destroying the integrity of my favorite characters is to prove a huge point. All of these characters are problematic. They have flaws, some bigger than others (looking at you, Korra. Just...wow), but ultimately, even if your fave is problematic... that’s okay. A lot of people, mostly younger people it seems, are really obsessed with being right about everything that they do and stan. And that’s a wonderful thing, so much change has come about by the younger generations calling out people who do fucked up shit, don’t want or try to improve, and get away with it. But it’s also caused a lot of people to be unforgiving and completely unwilling to acknowledge when people do improve and try to be better.
Personally, I love my problematic Krew because having issues that you’re constantly working on internally is human. It’s human to make mistakes, it’s human to grow from those mistakes. And it’s inspiring to me, who is wholly imperfect, to see myself reflected in fictional characters who aren’t perpetuating unrealistic ideals of human nature, characters who are messy, crazy and ultimately human.
As one of my favorite manga artists and queen of impeccable character creation Rumiko Takahashi once said:
“I think that perfect people are not very interesting.”
And I will always wholeheartedly agree.

just saw your old post about the fandom from legend of korra's early days and you said this "very young or new fans who just could not understand why Korra wasn’t Aang’s daughter" what even? okay if they were young but ???? 😆
Lol yeah, very young. Those fans were centered on the Nickelodeon-run message boards, so we're talking, like, 10-year-olds probably. If even. I imagine many of them were kids whose storytelling and story comprehension muscles were too young to have gotten much exercise yet, so they were likely operating off of standard tropes they were familiar with - ie, the sequel is about the original hero's child and successor.
To be fair, given their probable age in 2012 and the fact that the only ways you could watch ATLA after it ended in 2008 was either DVD (if your parents bought it) or steadily-decreasing reruns (legal streaming wouldn't be available for years), I also suspect a lot of those kids just hadn't seen much of ATLA, or barely retained any info if they had.
The only reason the fandom took note of the whole phenomenon is because Nickelodeon really pushed advertising for those message boards. Practically every commercial break and post-episode timefiller included the same advertisement encouraging people to join up and talk about the show; I think only the infamous Madagascar 3 Circus Afro was more common. The commercial included a few extremely fake forum posts with voiceovers - one was a girl saying something like "I love Bolin! He's so funny!" and I distinctly remember a guy saying "I know who Amon really is." You could tell they were fake because of the grammar quality and the fact that there seemed to be actual coherent thought put into them. They were very much not indicative of the sort of conversation to be found on the Nickelodeon message boards.
But the commercials were so common that many fans did indeed go check out the message boards, and they all came back to Tumblr and ASN and wherever else to report that it wasn't worth older fans' time, and also that "There are...a lot of kids asking why Korra isn't Aang's daughter."
Needless to say, it just kinda became an ongoing joke.

Oh oh oh THAT I do wanna know. What do the mallrats steal at their jobs?
mallrats 🥺🥺 that's the cutest nickname for them wtf lmao HERE WE GO
sokka: he used to steal way more when he first started out, but even then it wasn't really that much, and he'll admit that stealing loses its thrill when you don't actually have much of a need for any of it so he's largely lost interest in doing it—that is, until the holidays come around
all those free posters and displays and string lights? taken straight to his car in january and reused for other projects lol bc that is the kind of free stuff he can get behind. he's not gonna let that good foam board go to waste!!!
also: stealing from his store may be boring but stealing from the jasmine dragon isn't, and when i say stealing from the shop i ofc stealing from zuko. he takes whatever he can get away with bc sokka is five and this is one of the ways he flirts, apparently lmao
he refuses to tell zuko just how many of his flannels he's taken from him tho, mostly bc he's pretty sure zuko is letting him steal them on purpose and he's not about to acknowledge his victories could be falsely earned
(he has three. including the exact same blue one he owns, but he couldn't let zuko know he knows he's being set up so he was forced to take it too lol thankfully they wear the same size bc he has no clue which one was originally his now)
zuko: he doesn't pay for his drinks (it's his uncle's shop c'mon) and sometimes he'll take home samples to see if he likes it enough to buy a canister, but nothing much more than that
so zuko steals from sokka's store more, in retaliation to sokka stealing from his store, but unlike sokka he actually goes for the store supplies lol just small things since there's cameras around, and whenever he gets caught sokka just sighs and rolls his eyes at him
(ex: pens, t-pins, receipt paper, sokka's clipboard, sokka's bracelets, sokka's sanity bc he swears if zuko doesn't try to start stealing kisses soon......)
got a little long, so the rest of the cast below!
korra: doesn't really care about stealing anything bc wtf does she need from a clothing store?? but she does inflate her email+phone rewards numbers occasionally by using fake ones
(sokka knows but doesn't really care, since he does it sometimes too. he just keeps track to make sure corporate doesn't catch on)
bolin and opal: aside from taking home the occasional name tag, they play fast and loose with the time clock (if they're getting paid by the second, then they're not going to clock out until sokka is yelling at them!). altho opal does have a habit of hiding things around the store so that she can purchase them later lol
isda: is the reason why 'workplace theft' is even something the corporate retail worries about lmaoo she's worked at this store for ages, she can decide her own personal bonuses, and at this point, she couldn't even give you a ballpark monetary value of all the stuff she's stolen. just know that if you ever suddenly need a cardigan that goes with your outfit, she's got like twelve in her car
toph: she screwed up by working at a place that doesn't have anything cool enough to steal, so she fills this void by stealing zuko's wallet whenever she's bored. it's turned into a competition that sokka tried to join in on, but one sly comment from her about how zuko keeps his wallet in his back pocket made him stop Very Quickly lol
suki: if her store is missing any sort of office supply, you can assume suki stole it. that and all the different types of S hooks they have bc yue uses them for her crafts <3
chit sang: his quitting may have looked spontaneous, but he actually knew he was going to leave with a bang for a good three months. the only reason why it didn't happen earlier was bc he wanted to steal so much shit without getting caught, so he had to spend the time carefully phasing things out of the store first!
(the best thing he stole was one of the rolling carts with the portable tag detacher on it. he has no clue how he got away with that one)
iroh: it's his store so technically you can't call anything he takes as 'stealing' bc at the end of the day the money still comes out of a bank account with his name on it
bonus! katara and bakoda: ok they don't come in often but when they do they steal two things every time:
1. deals, thanks to sokka's employee discount
2. hearts, and sokka suffers literally so much
(he'll never be able to erase from his memory the sound of korra going "oh" when his dads walked in, followed by the extremely far more interested "oh" when she first saw katara. absolutely wretched!!!!!!!)
read mallrat here!

Can I ask what your season 1 Lok reboot looks like?
this is about 3k words i checked lmfao dont say i didnt warn u
a key part of the whole thing is that korra gets way more perspectives and more experiences representative of like, normal people in republic city bc i think something that really defined what a good avatar aang was was how many people he met and got to know and how he didnt exclusively or even mostly associate w cops and bureaucrats and leaders. so mako and bolin. well first of all their backstories are a little more fleshed out and we get a less black and white view of the “triads” (lol) and mako and bolin’s experiences w them. cuz the show very much does the whole thing of like Criminals Bad but dont worry even tho mako and bolin did commit crimes theyre not Criminals!! so just a little more nuance on the alleged gang problem and the poverty in the city
korra does start out very naive w very black and white ideas (ex. “you guys are CRIMINALS?”) i think a really good way of developing her away from her sheltered naive worldview is putting her in whats clearly an incredibly complicated city w an absolute cesspool of political conflicts, ethnic tensions, the lasting effects of colonization, etc and having her try and understand the needs of “the people” in a more complicated way than “i have to save the good guys from the bad guys” ykwim? and i think the absolute WORST way to do that is what they did. bc we get mako and bolin who could contribute genuinely compelling thematic elements to the story: one parent who was indigenous and one who was from a colonizer background in the decades directly following the end of the war, kids who grew up in poverty apparently without any familial support, and who now are trying to be “respectable” members of society (especially mako). and then most of that is pretty much tossed aside bc asami swoops in w her capitalist dad and her piles of money and the class issue is just never talked about again.
so the way i’d fix all that is like. introducing more, like, normal people. some nonbenders, more workers, more immigrants, etc, to show what daily life is actually like for people. because. we dont know! we dont have any context about whether the nonbender oppression thing is actually an issue bc we dont KNOW any nonbenders with normal lives! and spoiler: the nonbender oppression thing is not an issue. bc it doesnt make historical sense. lok is set 7 decades after the end of the war. that is not by ANY stretch of the imagination long enough to heal from the scars of imperialism, ESPECIALLY not when lok is also set in a settler colonial state. like that fact should have featured PROMINENTLY in the political and social setting! realistically, nonbenders arent an oppressed class, earth and water nation people are, regardless of bending status! as in all settler colonial states, the colonizers and their descendants (in this case fire nation people) retain most of the financial and political capital, leaving the colonized and racialized immigrants (in this case earth kingdom and water tribe people respectively) generally impoverished and politically suppressed. like aside from the fact that theres no way toph would have become a cop, it’s so ridiculous to think that an established privileged class of fire nation colonizers would EVER accept being policed by earthbenders!
imagine how much more nuanced and interesting it would be to set republic city as a remnant of a colonial past still fraught w the violence and tension that colonialism and the associated ideology imposed?? instead of some vague ideas of criminal who wear 1920s outfits and harass shopkeepers think about why extralegal and violent groups like that might form! earth kingdom people trying to push for the reclamation of their land? ethnic groups protecting themselves against corrupt cops? ESPECIALLY w the history that the fire nation has of SPECIFICALLY jailing and killing earthbenders and waterbenders BECAUSE of the potential they have to resist against fire nation imperialism like it just makes no sense at all that earthbenders would be privileged on land that, 70 years ago, they would have been imprisoned on! like these various paramilitary groups falling along these different ideological or ethnic lines, fire nation or earth kingdom or water tribe, pro colonization or anti colonization, pro cop or anti cop, pro immigrant or anti immigrant, and then you juxtapose that w depictions of a govt thats failing to keep this all under control w tenzin trying desperately to keep it together despite the fact that it’s becoming increasingly obvious that the state has no interest in taking the conflicts seriously and would rather just point vague fingers at criminals and gangs? and THEN you bring in korra, who has no idea about any of this and thinks that all its gonna take is kicking some ass every couple days, meeting normal people who offer all kinds of different opinions abt the efficacy of the state and the different violent or nonviolent groups and ideologies clashing in the city and the way all this shit is affecting people’s lives and livelihoods and relationships w other citizens??
theres so much good shit there so many incredible things u could do w that like Where do we go after colonial atrocities? is it possible for a settler colonial state to take revolutionary or indigenous ideas seriously? is liberal reform enough in a state like this? and then all the growth that korra could do going from a simple black and white life about mastering the elements to this messy complicated sociopolitical knot of a city? and all the different kinds of characters u could introduce in this city? like why would u EVER think that the most interesting characters that this story has to offer is a police chief a congressman and a billionaire????
but anyways. that’s what the Setting of my idealized version of lok is. as for the actual plot, it is as follows
it starts out similarly as the show. republic city is MUCH more fraught w political tension and violence and korra knows this but assumes that it’s just a matter of throwing a few gang leaders and corrupt officials in jail. tenzin manages to come see them in the south pole and intends give korra real lessons while he’s there but they receive news of a terrorist attack in republic city only a few days after he gets there so his family has to pack up and leave again.
korra stows away to republic city (katara catches her leaving and gives her blessing im a SUCKER for that moment). she does have a hard time adjusting but she doesn’t do what she did in the show lol the first person she meets in the city is this older woman who works on the docks, directs her to a place where she can eat and gives her a roof to sleep under for the first night. so korra’s first exposure to republic city is just about forming connections w ordinary people like ship workers and a family owned restaurant and people practicing their bending in the park. and by the time she reaches air temple island a day or so later her head is spinning w all this new information and the way that nothing is really what she expected it to be. tenzin gives her his own perspective on everything and pema gives her her own perspective on everything and even those two seem wildly different from all the people she’s already met. and so korra starts to get a kind of outline of the conflicts plaguing the city as extremely complex and a lot more influenced by older ideas of fire nation imperialism and earth kingdom land reclamation than she had any idea about.
mako and bolin are still pro benders but not like. super famous like they are in the show. korra’s picked up a couple friends by now and one of them takes her to a gym where a lot of amateur pro bending (is that an oxymoron? lol) matches happen and thats how she meets mako and bolin and joins their pro bending team. Unfortunately for korra, this gym is run by lin beifong, and also has the distinction of being one of the most notoriously anti settler state organizations in the country. lin beifong is NOT a cop but she runs this gym (and the pro bending league) as a way to offer support to local earth kingdom/water tribe youth, teach self defense skills, a center of community organizing, and sometimes to act as a front to hide revolutionary/combat organizing against the pro fire nation paramilitaries/police force. tenzin is DISTRAUGHT that korra does this and this is where the friction btwn them comes from bc (from tenzin’s perspective) she does things like this without thinking or even fully understanding the context behind them and tenzin will have to deal w the political fallout of the avatar openly aligning herself w a very divisive figure in the community and (from korra’s perspective) tenzin is too unwilling to take sides in a conflict that’s claiming lives and when the state is clearly not taking sufficient steps to protect people well then why the hell shouldnt she align herself w lin beifong, who IS taking steps to protect and support people?
as korra more fully integrates herself into the city and learns more abt how different people think abt everything going on this is where the real exposition abt the equalists begins. they’re a paramilitary group w an ideology thats gaining increasing support among middle/upper class fire nation people, esp nonbenders. on the face theyre abt putting checks on “bender oppression” but really it’s an excuse to persecute and surveil earthbenders waterbenders and airbenders, bc fire nation people have all this leftover fear about benders who arent fire nation Rising Up Against them and these people who r using their Savage Excuse for Bending to terrorize good innocent (fire nation) people. theres all too frequent terrorist attacks that the equalists claim credit for mostly against monuments to earth/water/air nation people and earth/water nation community centers (one like it was the event that forced tenzin back to republic city) but also like the govt doesnt take a lot of these seriously or if they do only a couple people are charged without doing damage to the entire organization
this is also around the time that they meet asami and she becomes part of their friend group. asami likes pro bending but her dad HATES it so she sneaks out to watch matches at lin beifong’s gym (korra says ironically like don’t u know how ~divisive~ that is and asami answers that the only reason its Not divisive is that gyms like beifongs are the only place where nobody recognizes her). and asami alongside korra is also kind of developing a more nuanced perspective on the city that she lives in cuz obviously the only worldview she’s ever been exposed to is her father’s right? and she keeps pushing it off making excuses not to bring mako and bolin and korra around to her house or even not to be seen w them in certain neighborhoods until they call her on it and she’s like Well honestly my dad might do something awful to u! and i dont wanna risk it!
and as time goes on we see more abt asami’s home life like her father’s hyper conservative politics and asami keeps these secrets abt her hobbies and her friends from him but she’s still clearly under his influence and mako bolin and korra r getting increasingly worried abt it cuz like...asami seems to tend to make excuses for him so that she wont have to be drawn into conflict and originally they think its just her being privileged and thats def part of it but the more they find out abt it the more they realize what a tight fucking grip he has on her and the way that like. asami sneaking out once or twice a week is the Only thing she does for herself. and it really starts freaking them out how influential this billionaire is and all the information theyre getting from asami abt what a piece of shit he clearly is. and so that whole plot thing comes about and shows us how deeply embedded these “equalist” ideas are in conservative republic city politics and how much influence theyre actually having in policy making and law enforcement.
asami suffers in the aftermath of this like being forced to truly confront the harm her father is doing both to the city and to herself. and she ends up leaving home when this discovery really breaks. but bc of the deep corruption in govt and police sato isn’t really....dealt with? like this big story breaks and everyones like Oh, My God! Hiroshi Sato Is Funding An Illegal Paramilitary Group! and theres all kinds of inane political discourse about it and he’s arrested but he bails himself out immediately and his finances are examined but he maintains control over them and after a few weeks the gang (bc they Have become close among all this w much less interpersonal drama lol) has to admit that this news story hasnt done what they thought it was going to it hasn’t dealt the equalists a real hit its just given them a very high profile ally
and this is when things really start to ramp up in terms of action like up until now korra’s daily activities are mostly like hanging around in the city w her friends  (which in part entails doing little avatar stuff that people dont feel comfortable going to police with, like Can you help me my ex husband wont pay child support or Please help i got robbed and i really needed that money for rent next month or Help my son keeps skipping school can you talk to him cuz im worried abt him being safe and doing well in school) and pro bending and airbending lessons (which i know ive neglected this part of the story in terms of her whole spiritual/physical conflict but it’s more of a subtle thing like it’s one of tenzin and korra’s more frequent arguments like tenzin says she needs to focus on spirituality and korra asks why she even needs to bc republic city is a sociopolitical problem not a spiritual one) but now the equalist threat seems to really be looming on every level of society like the storyline of equalists preventing pro bending matches happens here and everyones just at a total loss of what to do next. plus increasing and scary rhetoric about tenzin and his family that destroying the last airbenders is necessary to preserving the integrity of the united republic
and so theres the equalist takeover of the city. the people who are mostly resisting this are lin and ragtag group of people who have been resisting colonial rule for a long time (including suyin, who is part of a communist anti colonial community outside the city, because i said so and i think it would be fun), people who have been visiting her gym for years, members of her amateur pro bending league, plus asami and korra and tenzin. korra and tenzin have a sweet moment (bc they do genuinely care abt each other a lot even if their relationship has been marked w a lot of tension and arguing) where tenzin says like you know i think that ive lost focus on the kind of spirituality that might actually help you. korra says what do you mean? and tenzin kind of gestures to where theyre sitting with people buzzing around organizing to take care of innocents and civilians and to fight the equalists and he says this is a kind of spiritual too, isnt it?
and something something plot plot blah blah i havent decided on the details of the plot climax yet but that’s the climax of korra’s character development and what helps her connect w her spiritual side in order to protect the city: the realization that community is its own kind of spirituality. and it kind of represents the real development that i want her to have going from somebody who thinks that the world is divided into criminals and victims and she has to save the victims Into the kind of avatar who understands the people that she’s bound to serve. she becomes an avatar of the people!
and then happy ending lol korra and asami get together lin and tenzin reconcile after years of being at odds the show ends on a hopeful note that the inhabitants of republic city and the united republic as a whole Can move on from the scars of colonialism by reckoning w the remnants of fire nation colonial ideology and reparations to the earth kingdom people whose land this is and destruction of colonial systems that have maintained and enforced colonial violence all these years

Tumblr media
The door slammed open and you bounded in, throwing your head gear to the side roughly. Frustration rolled off of you in waves, and your teammates sensed it as soon as they caught up to you and entered the locker room.
Too bad only one of them understood why you were so mad.
“Damnit, (y/n)!” The earthbender on the team yelled as he yanked his own gear off. “What is wrong with you? We could have won this, we’ve been training nonstop!”
“Hey, Peng, calm down...” your other teammate urged gently, his hand reaching out to pull Peng back. The earthbender jerked out of the hold, and whirrled around.
“No, Nidik, I will not calm down!” He mimicked the waterbender. “We’re a good team; I know it, you know it, and (y/n) knows it. We work hard, and we do our best, but every time we go up against that fucking team we always lose! You don’t think that’s suspicious?”
Silence followed his outburst. You stared at the wall, back straight as a board, Nidik’s lips were pursed as he was locked in a stare down with Peng, who’s breathing was ragged.
“We had a lot on the line tonight,” Peng spoke again, much calmer this time, still looking at his waterbending friend. He sighed, and closed his eyes. “You need to tell me what’s going on, (y/n).”
“I-” you hesitated. This was so stupid. He was so stupid. “That idiot earthbender on the Fire Ferrets...” you mumbled. You wouldn’t say you hated him, but the dislike you had for him lit your veins on fire whenever you so much as thought about him.
“Bolin? What about him?” Peng questioned, finally turning to look at you.
“Ugh,” you groaned, rubbing your forehead. “You know I don’t like him, but every time he looks at me I blank,” you sighed, lowering your head. You were frustrated with yourself; you didn’t like Bolin, you’d barely spoken to him and it had proven to be a less than exciting conversation, so why did he have this affect on you?
“You’re kidding me, right?” Peng deadpanned, his face blank as he stared at you.
“P, don’t be so mean,” Nidik chided from his corner of the room.
“You have a crush on him, (y/n). We could have won the money to get new uniforms because ours are falling apart, and moved one step closer to the tournament, and we lost it because you have a crush on Bolin?”
Your face grew hot; whether from anger, embarrassment, or guilt, you didn’t know. You were actually feeling all three as you stood from the bench and grabbed your bag. “Can we talk about this tomorrow?” You mumbled, and didn’t wait around for an answer as you darted out of the room.
You headed to the bathrooms with racing thoughts. You were angry, at Bolin and yourself. You were embarrassed, because you were starting to think that maybe Peng was right. And you were guilty, for costing your team the match and the rewards you were in need of.
And as you left the arena, the cold chill of the night air causing you to blow steam from your nostrils, warming yourself up from the inside, these same emotions stuck with you. Shock joined them as someone called out to you. “Hey! (y/n)!”
You turned and scanned your surroundings, though it wasn’t easy to miss the boy with a wide grin and arms waving through the air. You sighed deeply.
Bolin.
Leave. Go home, you told yourself. And you so desperately wanted to, this boy was the cause of many negative emotions tonight and conversing with him didn’t exactly sound fun. But as he barreled towards you, and his green eyes became more visible, your feet stayed glued in place.
“Shit,” you whispered as you realized you had waited too long, and it was too late to run. He was almost there, and your heart raced for reasons you weren’t ready to unpack yet.
“Hey, (y/n)! That was a good match back there,” he complimented as he reached you, reaching a hand back to rub his neck.
You hated how handsome he looked. Dummy.
“Yeah, sure was...” you trailed off at the end, an awkward smile presenting itself on your face. You cursed yourself.
“Uh, I was wondering if you wanted to maybe grab a bite to eat with me” he shyly questioned, but blushed a moment later. “A-and Mako and Korra, of course,” he chuckled nervously.
You hated to say it, but you blanked for a few moments. No thoughts, no emotions, just the question the boy you were supposed to shoot fire at just hours earlier proposed. When your senses decided to quite their bullshit, you scrambled for anything to get out of it.
But your stomach churned with everything that came to mind; coming up with an excuse felt wrong and made you and uncomfortable. But you at dinner with Bolin? Someone who looked very cute and punchable?
“Yeah, I can’t tonight, sorry...” you apologized weakly, looking over your shoulder briefly, in the direction you needed to go to get home. “Uh, thanks, though.”
“Oh,” the disappointment dripped the word. “That’s-that’s okay.”
Your heart constricted in your chest, and you couldn’t breathe for a moment, and nothing made sense; so you turned away from him. “Maybe another time,” you offered lamely over your shoulder as you stepped away from him.
“Yeah, sure,” he nodded, shoulders slumping. “I’d like that,” he said softly, and you stopped mid step. Thoughts raced through your mind, and your heart sped up in your chest. Your cheeks were flushed and your nose was becoming slightly runny from the cold, but you turned around and called out to him before you could convince yourself not to.
“Actually,” you paused. Bolin had already started to walk away from you, his posture screaming ‘rejection’ and feet dragging on the ground, but he perked up at the sound of your voice. His head turned, and hope shined brightly on his face, and you cracked a smile.
“Yeah?” He questioned, and you worked up the courage you needed to get your words out. There was no going back now.
“Actually, I think I will go,” your eyes flitted from the ground, to the sky, to the building beside you, anywhere but his face. “If the offer still stands, that is,” your cheeks flushed.
“Of course it does!” He exclaimed reaching forward to grab your hand and pull you along, heading towards his brother and the Avatar, and you wondered for a moment if this was the right choice.
But as you looked down at Bolin’s hand wrapped around yours, and up at his happy face, it wasn’t hard to lean towards yes.

How would Olevia like to spend time with her kids?
Bruce: Olevia and her firstborn, I feel have a special connection. As one does with their first child lol. I think she would watch him train, Bruce explaining to his mother moves Bolin taught him. Olevia would try to give him pointers where she saw fit, even offering herself to practice with. Especially if Dai Tai is busy. They would also talk. Taking advantage of the open land they own and appreciating the plum trees. Olevia knows whether he admits it or not, that Bruce has a lot on his mind. So walking and talking alone is great stress relief. Another activity is flying. Olevia loves flying with Bruce. They've been doing it since he first started to float. They'll fly for as long as they can before dark. Often times they'll race each other to see who can get home first (great practice). Other times, they just take in the view the world offers them.
Tumblr media
Cindy: Olevia knows how much Cindy adores the piano. So, she likes to watch Cindy practice too. Or Olevia lounges about on a chair reading while Cindy's elegant melodies play in the background. Nothing needs to be said, their presence is enough. Just knowing the other is there is enough. They also do mini spa days together. At least twice a month Olevia and Cindy pamper each other. Of course, Dai Tai is always welcomed to join. They get their nails done as Cindy gushes about JJ or rants about school. A spa day is basically a more frequent Mother's Day. Also, since they have similar hair, they'll spend hours in the mirror coming up with different styles that'll suit their look of the day.
Tumblr media
Dylan: Olevia's hyper boy loves playing video games with his mother. Admittedly, it's because it's one of the few things he can beat his mother at. Everyone is aware of Olevia's lack of gaming knowledge and Dylan takes advantage of that. Olevia knows and indulges him anyway. She likes seeing him get hyped and it makes her get excited too, even though she has no clue what's going on. (Olevia is better at slow games like Animal Crossing. I imagine Dylan got her a switch to play it on.) Another thing they do that Dai Tai doesn't like is Dylan teaching Olevia slang. You'd be surprised how long it takes for Olevia to get a little close to understanding, but bless her heart she tries. Executing words like "thot, buss it, square up" leaves Dai Tai dying on the inside, while Dylan busts a gut laughing. Finally, they take naps together. Olevia loves humming French lullabies as Dylan drifts off to sleep.
Tumblr media
All 3: Family dinners. Growing up in the Master's Estate, dinner time was always quiet. The scrapping of forks the only voices at the table. Now, with how rambunctious and outgoing her children are, she wouldn't trade their time together for anything.

kai from tlok or hakoda, maybe even bumi ii?
hello, my beloved :) jeg siger undskyld (i apologize in danish) for the uh. belated response. work got uh. a lot. and then i got far too invested in sds for my own good anD THEN I MOVED lol aNYWAYS here's all of them as a treat:)
kai
how i feel about this character: i absolutely adore him. i think he has a lot of really good moments--especially when everyone thought he was dead but then he wasn't and rather than saving himself, he risked his life to save the people who, essentially, saved him from a rough life on the streets. not to mention that this was probably the first time they realized people cared about them. like, the group was so happy to see that he was alive, and before he joined the air acolytes, he probably didn't have anyone who would have mourned them. he shows so much courage and passion when he gets invested in something and i love them for it.
all the people i ship romantically with this character: kainora my beloved !!! and like shipping him with pretty much anyone but jinora and maybe ikki would be. weird and kinda gross tbh. but he and jinora balance each other out yet aren't afraid to encourage the other and have fun together and that's just. that's so good.
my non-romantic otp for this character: mako and kai !!! like... they both have a lot to learn from each other and i love them for that. it's after mako realizes that bolin is old enough to take care of himself, he fixates on kai as his younger sibling to try and make up for that and to feel needed and able to protect someone because he sees bits of his younger self in kai. and it's kai showing mako that he doesn't always need to be the big brother, that he can depend on other people but also loving having an older brother figure and not knowing how to process that so they act out because that's all they've ever known... it's messy and weird but it's them and their odd sibling-esc relationship and i love it<3
my unpopular opinion about this character: idk if this qualifies as unpopular but demiboy he / they kai rights !!!
one thing i wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: i wish we got more backstory for him--like, that we learned more about his life as a child and that they explored the mako and kai sibling-esc relationship more but's it's all good--i can always headcanon :)
~
hakoda
how i feel about this character: hakoda my beloved !!! ngl, at first i didn't like hakoda because he seemed like the perfect person for awhile--swt chief loved by everyone, best warrior ever, can do no wrong... and that bothered me a lot when i first watched the show two years ago ??? anywas, i love he now. he's a good dad and the love he has for his kids is extraordinary and heartwarming and i love it and him<3
all the people i ship romantically with this character: bato !!! sometimes i forget that bakoda isn't canon... like... genuinely i forget that it's a fannon ship. that is how deeply i ship bakoda.
kyoda is obviously wonderful too! bakoda just holds a special place in my heart. but i wish we got more kyoda scenes in flashbacks or something because they were adorable.
my non-romantic otp for this character: hakoda & sokka, hakoda & katara are my two biggest ones. i mean,,, that reunion hug at the end of boiling rock ??? like,,, yes that family is everything to me. plus, as much as i love the possibility for great dynamics and healing with hakoda being a father figure to zuko, there are more fics under the tag 'hakoda & zuko' than there are with both watertribe siblings which is just. very sad. so i feel like zuko's possible relationship with him gets more attention than hakoda with his kids. like... don't get me wrong, i love the hakoda and zuko dynamics... but like. sokka and katara...
also hakoda and toph. i feel like they'd get along really well and would be too powerful for this world.
my unpopular opinion about this character: that... hmmm... idk if i have an unpopular opinion about him... yeah, i can't think of any oihgvhj
one thing i wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: i wish we had more scenes with hakoda and his kids, but that's me being greedy. i also wish canon would just admit that bakoda is canon already p l e a s e they !!!
~
bumi ii
how i feel about this character: oh boy, where do i staRT !!! i love bumi ii. he is my 1.5 favorite lok character and i absolutely adore him. i wish we got more of him--i do. and that is me being greedy because i think we got more of him than kya ii, but still. he is everything i love in a character--feels useless compared to the others because he can't bend, feeling disconnected an unimportant in his own family because they're all super powerful benders and he's just... he's just bumi ii, the nonbender. acting out for attention because, at this point, even negative attention is better than constantly being overshadowed. and despite the resentment he may feel towards his siblings for being "better" and "more important" than he is, he's still a big brother at heart and would do / sacrifice anything for them.
all the people i ship romantically with this character: no one !!! bumi ii is aroace thank you and goodnight <3
my non-romantic otp for this character: bumi ii & izumi. i just,,, i just feel like they would get along so well??? like. i cannot describe it, but in the gaang's kids crew, they are the best friends. izumi is one of the first people he comes out to as aroace and bumi ii is the first person izumi comes out to as nonbinary. they find solace and peace in each other and understand parts of the other that no one really understands.
bumi ii & sokka also. they have so much in common and they deserve to be besties. bumi ii needs reassurance from someone who understand being the resident nonbender, and sokka needs someone who recognizes and verbalizes that he's amazing and someone worthy of looking up to.
also, naturally, bumi ii & his family. i mean, the sibling relationship was a bit strained, but the three care about each other so much even though they don't get along well. bumi ii is used to looking out for them and taking the blame if kya ii or tenzin did something bad because he wants to protect his siblings the best he can and he may not have magic bending powers, but he can do this. and bumi ii's relationship with aang and katara is definitely better than how they made it seem in the show--change my mind. aang may accidentally give tenzin more attention due to, ya know, airbending, but there is quite simply no way that aang or katara would ever neglect a child as much as the show made it seem. the kataang parents are good parents and i stand by that.
my unpopular opinion about this character: bumi ii has tourette's !!! he got it from his uncle sokka and actually, i headcanon that he actually doesn't curse or say vulgar things a lot because he has some form of coprolalia and always has to curse / say vulgar things against his will, so he does his best not to curse if he isn't being forced. also aroace bumi ii rights.
one thing i wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: i so desperately wish that bumi ii had tourette's in canon... y'all have no idea... i also hate the way that the show had him join the military like ??? that's just weird and i just. did not like it that much ??? so i wish it happened differently. no. you know how i wish it happened? since he has coprolalia, he struggled to find jobs willing to hire him. the other sailors didn't care that sometimes he yelled inappropriate things--it didn't matter to them.
and, lastly, may i suggest reading never been in love (and it's all good) by my bestie @zukkaclawthorne ! it is an aro bumi ii fic about him coming out and it's the content we don't deserve but cherish <3
