Birthday at NRC

This made me think of Jane Doe from Ride the Cyclone. It's an amazing musical, you should listen to it rn 😠😠😠.

...

One day while hanging out with the first years, you off-handedly mention that your birthday is in two days.

The boys are stunned and appalled that you didn't tell them sooner.

You insist that it's not a big deal but they know how much it must mean, being your first birthday since you got transported to Twister Wonderland.

When questioned in this by Ace (who can't keep his mouth shut for 2 minutes), you tell them that all your memories before being transported are kind of foggy, like a dream you can't quite remember.

You remember the date but not any of the celebrations, though you must have had a birthday every year.

Knowing this, they do their best to make this birthday extra, extra special.

Ace Trappola is more into subtle affection than big gestures like birthday parties, but he really wants to make you happy after all you've done for him and the others.

He consults Trey to help him make a cake.

He really does try to make a cake for you but it doesn't turn out perfectly.

The cake is overdone and crumbly and he put the frosting on too early so it all melted off.

The top of the cake is covered in messy chocolate that is supposed to spell out "Happy Birthday Y/N!".

He presented you with his crummy cake on your birthday expecting you to hate it.

Despite it being messy and dry, it almost made you cry seeing it.

Just the fact that he had done that for your birthday, knowing he was horrible at it, made you tear up.

Ace would do literally anything for you even though he'll never admit it.

He just wants to make you happy and he would make a thousand stupid cakes just to make you smile.

Deuce Spade is very conflicted about what to get you.

If he gets something functional, yes, you can use it, but it's not very personal.

If he gets something fun, you have it but it will probably break or wear away or be eaten.

He eventually decides on something that will last much longer.

A memory.

It sounds stupid but he knows experiences with people you care about last a lot longer than anything he can give you.

He gives you a little hand-made coupon for "One Free Magical Wheel Ride around Sage Island".

It's a very cute coupon with lots of stickers and exclamation points.

He's gone on rides around the island before, never with someone on his bike before but he's scoped out some of the most beautiful views there are.

You redeem your coupon a couple weeks after your birthday when you both have free time.

He drives you out to the beach and the two of you play in the water for a while and eat a little picnic he packed.

The day trip helped you relax a lot and get away from the stress that seems to follow you everywhere at NRC.

Deuce is just happy he could help you feel more at ease (and that you've discovered the thrill of magic motorbikes).

Epel Felmier will do anything to please you.

He asks you if you want him to do anything for you, even wear something cutesy and feminine.

You assure him that you like him much better when he's being himself.

His own country hick self.

He breathes a sigh of relief because he did not want to dress up.

He would've for you but he would've hated every second of it.

He decided to carve your name in cursive letters into an apple and gift it to you.

You are a bit sad because you know the fruit won't last but he will just make you something else if you ever want.

You keep it on your window sill until it gets too brown and you have to throw it away.

It's better than eating it though.

You could never bring yourself to destroy a precious piece of art.

He teaches you a few simple carving techniques too.

Carving apples always helps him relax and he wants you to be able to relax on your special day.

Jack Howl is a big softie, though he'll never admit it.

He gets you little matching gifts.

Subtle enough that no one who isn't looking closely will notice that it's a set but the two of you know.

He had to learn how to braid and make bracelets for his little sister so he makes you a friendship bracelet.

Oh sorry, it's a "resistant Paracord bracelet" not a friendship bracelet.

(ps. it's totally a friendship bracelet)

You wear it everywhere, using the excuse that it's good for emergencies, just like he told you when he gave it to you.

He has one of his own in the same colors and he uses the same excuse to shake of accusations that he actually cares about you.

He also gifts you a bunch of dino Band-Aids because Grim is a brat about the kind of bandages you're allowed to put on him and you run out very quickly.

He's a big fan of practical yet thoughtful gifts.

The Savanaclaw jocks are total d-bags about Jack being a "momma's boy" but he brushes them off.

He's just happy you're happy, especially if that means you'll brush him tail while you all watch your favorite movie.

Sebek Zigvolt is aggressively caring.

He's one of those "hydrate or die-drate" people.

He can't be the most attentive to your needs when he's trailing after Malleus but he gets permission to stay by your side for one day.

You now have your own personal guard.

He carries around a Mom Tote™ like you usually have.

His birthday gift to you is basically taking care of you like you do him.

Obviously you have to go to class but when you aren't, he is walking a few feet behind you, glaring at boys who look at you wrong.

You tell him that he is allowed to walk next to you but he insists that it isn't proper knightly behavior, even though he isn't your real knight.

You jokingly "knight" him with a wooden spoon, dubbing him "Sir Sebek of Ramshackle, knight and attendant to the Lady Y/N of Ramshackle".

He wears the title with genuine pride.

He goes and brags about it to Silver later, who honestly couldn't care less.

Throughout your birthday, Sebek makes sure you are never in want.

When you lose you pencil, he procures another one from the bag.

When you get thirsty, he pulls out a water bottle for you.

There's something distinctly magical about the seemingly endless carpet bag he carries around but you'll leave that mystery for a different movie.

He loves you a lot, though he would rather fall on his sword than say it.

His love is very linked to protection and that's exactly what he does: he protects you.

All in all, the boys do their best to give you all the comfort and happiness you deserve on your birthday.

You are constantly surrounded by people and things you love.

The whole night ends with all six of you (+ Grim) in a cuddle pile on your couch, watching your favorite movie.

You think back on the day as you drift off to sleep and realize that there's no one else you would rather have spent your first birthday with.

OK SO ! i have a lot to say and a good amount of it is emotion based , so ill get the art talk out of the way first ! this is slightly personal but i wont get too descriptive because thats My Business . please bare with me !

first of all , the first 3 fics are from the same author . i will not apologize because haze's work makes me scream and cry and punch things ( pos ) and i am emotionally attached to all 3 fics . Sorry i dont make the rules my brain does </3 anyways Yes i do know that a lot of them look very similar . thats on purpose . this is my reader insert character shin , full name hen shin ( last , first ) ! he is the character that i default to whenever i read inserts bc uh . as an aro person thats not my wheelhouse but it IS my little blorbo's here ! his whole thing is that hes whatever the author wants him to be Plus what my brain thinks he is .

i differentiate each version of him by the little details - each reader has a different eye colour , a fic specific name , and the same overall design with tweaks . like how the physicist ( sleep awake ) has Sharp / swoopy bangs w the ahoge and the barcode tattoo or how the fortunes ( tabf and jwtn ) have more Wavy and kinda elegant hair w tabf fortune in specific having scars ( check the hands ) . the only exceptions to this rule are cherry ( grayscale ) and kisaki ( my hero isekai ) . i made cherry before shin became my default and kisaki already has a canonical design so i coulnt do much there !

for the specifics - i tried to choose an identifying feature from the original work that could be used to easily identify each character !

with eye colours , the list goes ;

tabf fortune : the backpack and earring ( light blue )

jwtn fortune : the cherry blossom hairclip ( light green )

gli chan : the hoodie and sweatpants but i didnt remember what they looked like exactly so i winged it <3 i think the glitches count too ( orange )

black wolf : the mask ( pastel pink )

cherry : dress and jacket ( brown )

kisaki : the whole look really . it isnt the same as canon bc of my mind palace and Things ill explain later ( purple )

physicist : the glasses ! and the autism stance . You know the one . i do it too ( red )

ok so to make it quick , i spent a LOT of time on quotev in 2013/2014 . and a lot of that time was spent reading reader inserts for fandoms like naruto , creepypasta , fnaf and ... The main subject of this baggage . The accursed H . I will not invoke its name bc i only Barely just started getting over THAT but to put it simply : the accursed H kind of poisoned fanfic for me . it took me up until my kpop hyperfixation in 2017 to get me back into it and even then it was shipping rpf that i quickly stopped being comfortable with . 2018 and 2019 was when it really got better .

sometime in late 2018 and early 2019 i read toward a bright future and it Changed my fuckin Life bro . i braved a reader insert as the first step to getting over the last hurdle of my fanfic specific baggage and obviously its been going great so far ! it took give or take 4 entire years to get over the most weird associations and squicks i had w inserts that even now im Still working on . which is where we get into the next bit : all of my readers are masculine . on purpose .

i think i summarized it pretty well in the description of a thing i did for wttwop , here it is copy and pasted w minor edits to take out useless context : " because of the way that i engage with reader inserts , my readers are always more masculine than the authors describe - as a person who identifies as male / masculine myself i usually switch around the readers pronouns and sometimes even rewrite phrases or sentences in my head to reflect a more masc reader since most inserts have female or feminine readers . "

i wont get into my even more complicated relationship with gender bc thats My business but its kind of why i still havent completely gotten over my hangups w reader inserts yet . fem readers are frustratingly common , and ive combated this by changing my interpretation of the character . feminine clothes are kept but pronouns , compliments , terminology and sometimes entire conversations or scenes are rewritten in my mind palace bc of it . of course its not a bad thing for a reader to be fem , far from it . these rewrites are for me and me alone and its how i enjoy the inserts i consume .

its just .. i wish there were more fics with gender neutral or male readers that either dont Suck Ass , arent sexual , or arent one shots or drabbles . if it isnt obvious i LOVE long fics with a main plot and lots of chapters , and non fem readers are already uncommon enough as is but theyre even Rarer in long plot driven fics . personally i would LOVE to write a gn or male plot driven reader insert but unfortunately my writing isnt good enough , and even then itd be original work and characters . which has basically no audience on ao3 . sucks ig shrug

to be honest the way i wrote my baggage doesnt make it seem that bad but it was more an emotional / psychological thing than anything , and i dont think i explained it very well but whatever ! i did my best [: anyways the point is that Yeah . theyre right it does actually get better with time . i thought that id never be able to consume fanfic again after the Accursed H stole my enjoyment of it and i was fully convinced that id never even be able to look at a reader insert without feeling Viscerally Squicked out but nowadays i find myself actively searching for them ! its growth !

and this post is proof of that growth . it may seem stupid or dumb but its a big step for me , the Accursed H took a lot more from me than fanfic and the rest of that is my business but this is the first step in getting over its influence and finding enjoyment in the content i consume [:im proud of myself .

a lot of what i wrote here was toned down because the finer details are personal but the overall picture is pretty clear i think !

More TWST Event Outfit Designs for Yuu!MC

Fairy Gala

Originally the design was more feminine with a lot of ruffles and lace but decided against it because although the gala designs for the boys have a lot of embellishing, the cloth textures didn't match

Took aspects of the 2 events' style

Poofy, relaxed style clothing and embellishments like Silver's and Leona's

Jack's lower half cause I really liked the poofy calf pants + strappy slippers combo

To compliment Ortho's design (the best one objectively) I wanted a firefly-like design where the wings are more narrow

The colours are a lot more akin to Ortho's because iridescent colours are peak fairy designs (with ivory as the base)

I also wanted to add another element which are fluffy wings because SSR designs vs. SR designs lmao

Fluffy hair!!!

Comfortable flats!

Wish Upon a Star

The hair is combed and styled to resemble the moon

The floating moons and stars are projections or magic, your choice

I took Idia's clothes as the base inspiration and wanted to make a flowy, ethereal and free look with her dress

I wanted the WUAS event outfit to look cute because I like variety in clothing styles

Note- this ended up being kind of a character analysis so I hope you enjoy an in-depth exploration of how I characterize the first years.

...

At first, you would only trail after Ace and Deuce because of Grim's involvement, cleaning up the messes they left behind.

Once you got to know them though, you started hanging out with them outside of fixing their mistakes.

It didn't take long for you to be adopted into the first year friend group.

You adore all of them and, with some time, they come to adore you.

Upon meeting all the first years, you realized one crucial fact:

None of these boys have any self preservation.

Ace and Deuce's squabbling and scheming have gotten them into more than one inopportune situation.

You've had to hold Epel back from punching someone who called him cute one too many times.

Jack refused to take care of himself no matter how many times you urged him to practice healthy self care.

And Sebek of courses has screamed at many people for undermining the importance of the Great Malleus Draconia.

You always have to come prepared when you hang out with them, often carrying a full first aid kit and snacks to class with you.

People around NRC have taken to calling you the campus mom.

While your love and affection is reserved for the first year group of friends, if someone come up to you needing a band-aid, you are happy to oblige.

You do a lot for the first years and sometimes they forget to thank you for it, but you know they love you.

Deuce Spade comes to you for tutoring.

Seven knows he needs all the homework help he can get.

He's a bit slow to understand complex concepts so alchemy is his worst class.

Now you aren't at the top of your class but your a quick learner and you are very good at explaining.

Deuce has called you for homework help in the middle of the night many times.

You always smile and talk him through the assignment, explaining the details when he gets stuck.

He just wants to be a good honor student and you really admire him for that.

He's told you how much he wants to make his mom proud of him and you do everything you can to help him feel proud of himself.

When he gets a B- on a test you helped him study for, he's beyond excited to show you his progress.

And he didn't even need to sign a contract for it!

You tell him how proud you are of him and he almost bursts into tears.

He immediately texts his mom a picture of his test.

He's so happy to finally be on his way towards a new future.

Ace Trappola comes to you for impulse control.

He has a big mouth.

There's no way to sugarcoat it. He speaks his mind and gets into a lot of trouble for it.

While you love how honest and upfront he is, you cannot condone the fights he's gotten into because of this.

You are aware that Riddle would be furious about one of his first years tainting the Heartslabyul reputation so you make sure to stop the quarrels before they start.

Ace has a few tells when he's about to say something stupid.

For example, the corner of his mouth quirks up when he knows he could destroy someone's whole career in a few seconds and his eyebrows twitched when he starts getting annoyed.

He doesn't mean to be contrary, he just hates when people don't get what they deserve.

So when he sees some thugs saying something mean about another student, he's going to march up to them and give them a piece of his mind.

When this happens, you grab his shoulder and lead him off somewhere quiet to cool down.

He has a very strong sense of justice but you're still at a school.

You report the bullies to a teacher and go do something relaxing with Ace.

Usually you color in coloring books.

He insists that he's not a kid and he doesn't need coloring books, but it's actually really calming and fun.

While he's not an absolute hot-head, he's headstrong and sometimes needs someone to reign him back in until he can learn how to regulate his impulses by himself.

Epel Felmier comes to you for comfort.

It can be really difficult being in Pomefiore, constantly being poked and prodded, being criticized on your body and your etiquette and your posture.

Epel keeps a delicate persona while he's around other people but when he drops it whenever he's with just you.

He feels comfortable enough to use his real accent and slouch because he knows your the only person who wouldn't judge him for it.

When he's especially upset with Vil on a particular day, he practically sprints to Ramshackle and vents all his frustrations to you while you brush his hair.

He can't really be vulnerable with anyone else, even himself but you helped him to allow himself to feel.

Sometimes he'll just barge into your room and throw his arms open for a hug.

He's always welcome when he needs any kind of comfort.

You listen when he talks and just sit with him when he needs the reaffirmation.

You know how insecure he is about his masculinity and that he doesn't want to be perceived as so fragile and feminine.

But looks don't amount to masculinity.

How other people perceive you doesn't matter as long as you know who you are and you allow yourself to be that person.

It's a bit hard, since Epel has to change quite a bit to fit into the Pomefiore mold but being with you helps him remember who he is and who he wants to be.

Jack Howl comes to you for self care.

He's obviously very determined about his goals and aspirations but sometimes his determination turns into obsession.

When this happens, he won't let himself rest or eat until he's satisfied with his own performance.

He tries to push himself to work harder, hike farther, run faster.

It often just leaves him with exhaustion and a feeling of inadequacy.

Oftentimes, you've had to drag him to his bed when he stays up late exercising.

He just doesn't know how to practice healthy self-care while still striving for self improvement.

You teach him that self-care is the exploration of things that make you happy and help your brain and body to relax.

He eventually discovers that he really enjoys crochet.

He tries to brush it off, saying that crochet isn't manly or that the Savanaclaw students would make fun of him.

You assured him that it does make him any less masculine to enjoy something stereotypically associated with femininity and that it's actually very brave of him to do something that others may not understand.

The two of you crochet together every other evening and listen to audiobooks, usually romance mysteries.

He says he doesn't actually care about the romance bit but you always catch him smiling when the main characters finally kiss.

Being with you has helped him develop healthy habits and take care of himself more.

That usually scares them off but if they continue to bother you, one of the first years, usually Jack will corner them in a secluded area to tell them to leave you alone.

If it still doesn't work, that's when it gets violent.

They know you would never condone any of them getting into fights but as long as it's for your honor, they are ready to throw hands.

They may get in trouble with the headmaster but they don't care that much.

When you get sick or injured, the boys are practically your servants.

You tell them that they really don't have to do anything for you but after all you've done for them when they're vulnerable, they need to repay the kindness.
