Zutara my beloveds 💜💜💜 how about a snippet from the post-Agni Kai conversation Bryke robbed us of?

97.  ‘I will always protect you.’

When Zuko woke, everything hurt. He tried to lay still for as long as possible, hoping the memories would rush back to remind him why his head was pounding and his muscles ached and his stomach was sore as if he’d-

“Oh,” he grunted, blinking his eyes open to the warm glow of mid-afternoon light. He sat up with a gasp, the effort stealing all the air from his lungs, but he didn’t care. Zuko needed to see her with his own eyes, needed to know that her healing him wasn’t a dream, needed to know that yes she was ok.

“Careful Zuko!” Katara said, rushing from the desk to help prop pillows behind him. He let out a sigh of relief that yes, Katara was very much alive and here. “There. You’ve got to be gentle. I’ve done a few healing sessions while you’ve been asleep, but there’s still a lot to be done.”

“How long was I out?” Zuko rasped, his voice scratchier than normal with disuse.

“Two days, more or less,” Katara said, already bending a cup of water for him from a pitcher on the table. “You’ve woken a handful of times but you weren’t lucid. I was hoping you’d wake soon since your fever finally broke.” 

She gently raised the glass to his lips, slowly tipping the water back so he didn’t drink too much at once. Katara set the cup on the table and sat on the bed beside him, calling forth more water to glove her hands. When she spoke again, her voice cracked with raw emotion. “I wasn’t sure if you were going to make it,” she whispered.

“Katara I-”

“Why did you do it?” Katara asked, not meeting his eye as tears slipped down her cheeks, mixing with the glowing water she held over his chest. “I’m not worth it.”

“That’s not true,” Zuko said, a frown tugging at his lips. “I’d do it again. I’d do it a hundred times if it meant you were safe.” Hesitantly, he brought one hand to cup her face, wiping at her tears with his thumb.

Katara finally met his gaze, her healing water, forgotten, splashing on his chest and the bed. Even red-rimmed with tears, her eyes were the most beautiful blue he’d ever seen.

“But why?” Katara whispered, the furrow in her brow deepening. The words were on the tip of his tongue, but he couldn’t bring himself to say them.

Because you are good.

Because you make me want to be good.

Because a life without you isn’t worth living.

Because I’m falling in love with you.

It was too soon for that, but Zuko promised himself he would tell her. Instead, he answered simply, “Because I will always protect you.”

Katara bit her lip, her eyes flickering between his as she searched his face. “But you shouldn’t,” Katara said. “You have to be Fire Lord.”

Zuko chuckled, ignoring the pain it shot through his chest. “I wouldn’t make a very good Fire Lord if I let something happen to my Water Tribe Ambassador.”

Katara’s eyes widened, her mouth dropping open in surprise. It was so adorable, he couldn’t help but lean forward and gently press his lips against her cheek.

“I can’t ask you to stay,” Zuko whispered, “But there will always be a place here for you.”

“What if I wanted to stay?” She breathed, her voice so quiet he had to strain to hear her.

“Do you want to?” He whispered against her skin. Zuko felt himself trembling, waiting for her answer. 

Katara kissed him, soft but sure, her lips warm against his. Zuko sighed against her, bringing one hand to tangle in her hair. She leaned against him, pulling a groan from him at the wave of pain from the pressure.

“Sorry!” She said, pulling back abruptly. “I’m so sorry! I-”

“Katara,” Zuko cut her off. “Will you stay?”

If Zuko had any doubt about his choice, and he didn’t, her answering smile would have been enough to convince him.

“Yes, Zuko. I’ll stay.”

if katara had to create a patronus, what memory do you think she'd use? (can be from canon or your own headcanons!)

I had so much fun thinking of answers for this ask. (And so many emotions holy cow.)

I think that Katara's happy memory would evolve as she does. Before the discovery of Aang in the iceberg, Katara's happy memory would revolve around her mother. Those happy times with Kya are what Katara clings to in moments of sadness and darkness. They're what keep her going and what give her hope.

Once she and Sokka find Aang, though, I think Katara's happy memory would be finding him because he gives her concrete hope. I think it then shifts to mastering waterbending and/or handing Pakku's ass to him in front of everyone. That was her goal, right? Achieving that goal would be a huge thing for her.

But you know my little shipper heart isn't going to leave Zutara out of this right?

After the war, it's hard for Katara to conjure a patronus for a while. She's experiencing and trying to process so many emotions that it's hard for her to discern what's happy and what's relief and what's just exhaustion. Once she starts working through everything, though, I think the memory that would become her go to is the earth shattering happiness she felt when Zuko opened his eyes after the Agni Kai. At first, it's hard for her to pick that thread loose from everything else--the adrenaline that comes with fighting Azula, the heart-wrenching fear of thinking Zuko might be dead or dying, the constant worry over her brother and the others on the other side of the world, the panic of trying to save Zuko's life, the fear of inadequacy that must hit her when she thinks she might not be able to... There's just so much that happens to her in that brief amount of time.

It's my personal headcanon that sometime around the beginning of TSR, Katara starts to realize exactly how much her hope for world peace rests on Zuko and not just Aang. So she needs him to live in the finale. She knows what the world will become if he doesn't. I think she also knows her world will never be the same and her heart will break if he doesn't.

So when he opens his eyes and thanks her, there, buried beneath everything else that's overwhelming her heart, is a brilliant, bright thread of happiness that she gets more time with him. Happiness that he's going to be able to help perpetuate good in the world. Happiness that she won't have to live the rest of her life wondering what if. And I think that moment would be the one she uses to create a patronus for a long time afterward.

Ooooh, can't give much away about this one because *spoilers*. It's the final fic in my The Worlds Through Which We Weave series, and it's the one that ties everything together. I'm hoping it'll make the sad endings from earlier on in the series at least a *wee* bit better?

Alright, Blue, you majestic, beautiful person, you. 💙💙 This one was ENTIRELY TOO MUCH FUN. I am so glad you sent me this specific playlist ask! First of all, I LOVE the idea of Zutara being allowed to go feral. Feral Zutara rights! LET THEM LOSE THEIR SHIT IT WILL BE FINE. I especially love the idea of feral Katara so much that I already had some songs in store. HOWEVER, this ask allowed me to find my new favorite Katara Song ™️: "Water Witch" by The Secret Sisters. That's the song this playlist opens with.

NOW. I KNOW WHAT YOU MIGHT THINK. Musically, it doesn't sound too feral, BUT CHECK OUT THOSE LYRICS. MAN ALIVE.

Oooooh, okay, so the whole thing for ZKW 2021 is gonna be based around the difficulties and push-back that Katara and Zuko face trying to be together post-war, particularly given Zuko's position as Fire Lord.

On Our Side focusses on a point when things get difficult, when they're reaching their breaking point, and they get a sign (from the spirits? who knows? not me) that maybe they're not alone in their fight to be together.

Thank you for asking! I've been meaning to interrogate you about your socmed fic so be prepared for that!

1) What are three shows in your watchlist that you’ve been meaning to get to?

Ooof top is Shadow & Bone (I’ve been putting it off cause even though I haven’t read the books, from what little I do know it seems similar to my own original idea 😅and I want to finish a solid first draft so as not to get intimidated and quit lmao). 

And then my brother is trying to get me to watch Attack on Titan and I’ve been meaning to catch up on the past season or so of Handmaid’s Tale, but I’m a notorious rewatcher --looking at you New Girl 👀 (round 6?)

14) What are some places where you feel most at home?

In the highlands, in water, on the floor with my dog, in a family member’s embrace or surrounded by friends 💙

18) What’s one historical event that you would have liked to have witnessed?

So I answered that here, but I’m also going to say the first Olympic Games. Cause I am also a nerd for that sort of thing lol I am so competitive that I also love watching people compete. 

46) What’s the last thing a friend recommended to you that you looked into and actually liked?

I have a friend who has become quite the game expert. Card games, board games, etc. you name it. Anyways, she recommended Among Us to play months ago (like ya know right before it took off) and that was a blast. I miss that phase of quarantine...

hi hi hi! fortnight, september, and tomorrow for the ask game!

so for fortnight: so probably credence!(an zk/atla fic) i started a few months ago, I got busy & kinda insecure with my writing so there’s two versions of it up! (had i stopped being so insecure I would’ve just kept with the first one!)

september: “Ouchers mate.” has to be one of my fave comments ever 😂. For a while after i took this writing break I would only post my angsty shots(tangled related..) and people would tell me I made them cry or feel emotional haha...and that’s really cool ya know?

tomorrow: so I think for zk especially their kind of fluff would be teasing each other or even little small little tokens of appreciation! I really love tapping into this bond with them that they share! (And in its own honor is fluff to me)
