reading the witcher books after watching the netflix series is such a slap to the face (positive) mostly because of how much sweeter geralt is to everyone but also just because of. everything. I’m mostly talking about how he treats dandelion (jaskier) because the show did them dirty

tl;dr if you liked the netflix series (or even if you didn’t) you should definitely check out the books. the characters are so much more developed and the writing style is gorgeous. I’ve read three of them since getting the series last week.

Andrzej Sapkowski: "Personally, I like the Netflix series a lot"

Minute 8:13-8:17 ("persönlich da habe ich die Netflix Serie sehr gern")

He also says something about the Slavic influence: "When you say that in the Geralt Saga many things and matters are inspired by Slavic mythology, that's true, but not only, not only." (He really emphasises this!) ("Wenn Sie sagen, dass in Geralt Saga viele Sachen und Angelegenheiten inspiriert von Slawischer Mythologie inspiriert sind, das stimmt, aber nicht nur, nicht nur. Also keine Mythologie ist für mich schlecht zu bearbeiten.") (3:12-3:30)

When he is asked if he was influenced by Tolkien, he says yes, that he is a specialist at fantasy and has read everything and that his goal was to avoid all the cliche/sterotypes that you find in fantasy and to find his own way. ("Mein Ziel war, alle Klischees die im Fantasy sind, zu vermeiden, also finden meinen eigenen Weg." (6:39-6:55)

So, all in all, Netflix not just copying the exclusively white elves from Tolkien's world seems to be compliant with the author of the Witcher books's ideas. Maybe there could have been more Slavic elements, but that the Witcher is pretty much exclusively inspired by Slavic mythology like some people claim on social media is not true, according to the author (he especially mentions the Brothers Grimm as influences, for example). And that every fan of the books must automatically hate the show is definitely bullshit, if even the author himself likes it.

A new year, a new Witcher Monster MAYhem! This time it will be a 7- days prompt event, right at the start of the month of May (May 01-07).

If you have ideas for prompts that you would like to see for this week of Witchers and Monsters, fill in the google form here. It will be open until February 25th.

We can have all kinds of monsters, horribly evil ones that want to eat you in your sleep or cute, fluffy ones that wish to cuddle, whatever tickles your fancy!

You can create any kind of entry (fics, poems, gifs, art, etc.) for any Witcher medium and combine the prompts freely with other events (if they allow it)!

There will be an Ao3 collection for the event and badges for participants and completionists.

Jaskier dies.

Maybe it's heroic. Maybe it's not. Maybe Geralt and Yen were there. Maybe they weren't. Maybe Ciri still beats herself up about not being fast enough. Maybe she doesn't. Maybe Geralt knew when it happened. Maybe he didn't. Maybe it was traumatic. Maybe it wasn't.

Point is, Jaskier is dead. Jaskier has been dead for centuries.

Geralt and Yen and Ciri are on the path still, when they stop for the night. There's a fire burning, and they're all exhausted, but Ciri is still cold, and struggling to sleep.

She could swear someone just draped their coat over her. Is holding her close. Is humming a tune long forgotten by the world. There is no-one there, but somebody is stroking her hair regardless. She closes her eyes, pretending they don't sting, that she isn't deluding herself into thinking that he is singing her to sleep, because surely Yen and Geralt would notice if they had been being haunted for the past several hundred years.

Years later, Yen is striking out on her own for a bit. It's not that she doesn't love her family, but she does need a break from them at times.

She is taking the long route to what was once called Cintra, because if being functionally immortal has taught her one thing, it's that she has the time to get lost in the woods. If she didn't know better, she would say that she was being followed. But there is nothing there, magical or otherwise. Even so, she is being followed. Or, perhaps, haunted. She doesn't deal with hauntings much- it's more of a Witcher's job than a Mage's, but every Mage knows the basics.

For whatever reason, her ghostly companion can't or won't show their face, but are present enough that she feels followed. She abruptly sits where she stands, and addresses the air.

"I don't have the equipment for a proper seance on me, but I am willing to allow you to perform a minor possession on me." The air is still for a long moment, as is her mind, before she gets-

He leaves her be then, and she is grateful for it as she beats herself up over this, because they should have seen this coming. How had they not see this coming? Of course Jaskier was haunting them- he'd done so often enough in life that it must have been practically second nature in death!

It's not like the Witcher show has been a good adaption of actually good source material (books) that could have arguably been written in a different writing style that I personally think is one of the worst writing styles and simultaneously has some damn awesome moments I've ever come across.

But now the seemingly one and only person (apart from Sapkowski) to really care about source material (books), expansions of source material (games) and characters is leaving and I don't know what's worse.

1. My suspicion of the show having a rather quick death after season 4 or 5 because of deteriorating quality in story telling. Or,

2. A slow painful death because of dragging out a show that's become nothing more than a cash cow and making characters and story arcs more unbelievable by the episode just for the sake of producing stuff

one thing I love about the witcher books is how sometimes theres just this throwaway bit of worldbuilding or something that I cannot stop thinking about. Granted, I haven’t finished the books yet, but, in Baptism of Fire (I think), 

jaskier canonly curls his hair. 

like, he is mistaken as an elf because of his youth and the fact that his shoulder-length blond hair is curled. he “has taken a habit of curling it”. but this man has been traveling for days already? i know nothing about hair curling but i can’t help just wondering how he does it. like, does he have this heavy ass iron curling wand he has to put over the fire? does he wear curlers? is it magic? does it bother geralt? how often does he have to do this? 

they definitely have to think about what they pack for these long trips, its not like weight is unlimited, and the man has been traveling long enough that he should, technically, know what to prioritize. just, idk, somehow he makes sure his hair stays curled

Yk what would be really funny if when I got a Samoyed I named her Angoulême. Then I’d have Renfri and Angoulême, two important people in Geralt’s life!

PS: Ik Cirilla would be a better name, but my moms grandfathers name was Cirilo and she already said no 🙄😒.

Here’s a bit of a Renfri Puppy update cause I haven’t posted that stinker in a while. I also got a tatto of her so I’ll post it when I get a good picture of it.

PS PS: it’s good for aussies to go through at least one heat before they get spayed to lower the chances of cancer down the line. She is gonna get spayed. I will take no comments about this. Thanks.
