DCU from a Marvel fans limited perspective

recently i've accidently been sucked into the DCU universe, mostly Bat family, if i'm being honest, and although i've never watched a single movie/episode, this is what i have gathered from purely reading the occasional fanfiction/lots of tumblr posts

SPOILERS i guess

There are A LOT of batkids

Bruce Wayne adopts these motherfuckers like they're some kind of limited edition pokemon set

no one is actually sure how many there are but if you have black hair and blue eyes and live in gotham, Batman doesn't care if you've got parents or not. you're coming home with him

There appears to be five Robins and Batman goes though these children like a chainsmoker with a pack of cigarettes

people die a lot

Thats okay though because people come back to life a concerning amount as well

Jason Todd died and came back to life by being dumped in a pit of magical water

Damien Wayne is the only biological child of Bruce and he mentions this a lot

Dick Greyson was the first Robin and the first adoption and i think he and Bruce got in a fight and he left to become Nightwing

Jason Todd stole the Batmobile's wheels and became the second Robin. after he came back to life he became Red Hood

Tim Drake was not an orphan, he just fit Bruce's target demographic and was conveniently close (I mean come on, it's like express shipping) He is also some kind of super-genius. He was the third Robin but became Red Robin/Drake

Stephanie brown(?) was the fourth robin(?), not sure for how long. People get upset when other people forget. I think she's called Spoiler or something

Damien Wayne is the final Robin. Hes this assassins son and im pretty sure Talia dropped him off at the Wayne Manor and said, "I had him through the terrible twos, you get the teen years'

Not entirely sure if Tim runs Wayne enterprises

Brucie wayne is the funniest fucking thing i swear

He's so stupid

not sure is Tim, Dick and Jason follow Bruce's lead and become absolute airheads as well

Alfred is a butler

Again the sickness speaking but here's something that has been going through my mind since forever:

I feel like a good way to mitigate a lot of discontent with the doa arc ending and in general the whole Dazai-being-flawless issue bsd has going on is by comparing bsd to Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle. Please bear with me for two minutes.

When Sherlock Holmes was being published, people were intrigued and enamoured by Holmes' brilliant and charming, crimes-solving figure. People read the stories for the pure joy of being left gaping at his superhuman wits again and again; they didn't want to see him fail, they wanted to be shocked and amazed by his genius. When Holmes died and then came back, nobody lamented it being unrealistic, because realism was not what people were reading the books for! They were reading to be impressed, to cheer for the hero and then take satisfaction in seeing him turn out victorious. That's the author-reader deal that was made there: to impress and to enjoy being impressed.

As of recently I feel like we've been asking from bsd something it never promised us in the first place. Maybe it's just not that kind of series! Maybe it's more about surprising the reader with how the hero is going to make it and less about highlighting his flaws and insecurities. And like, that's okay! That's why Dazai getting away with it isn't it him getting away with it “again”, it's just how bsd is; in a way, it's what makes bsd bsd.

I think it really clicked with me like it never did before when I watched the last episode of season 5; because the arc ending felt so shocking and unpredictable, very deus-ex-machina trope, a little underwhelming in its lowering the stakes that were there the whole time, and yet so extremely on brand with bsd, I didn't even have it in me to be disappointed. It was so similar to the Guild's arc ending and even more to the Cannibalism arc ending, and maybe it really is just a pattern, maybe it really is what bsd aspires to be, and that's okay too.

Also, I can't stretch this enough: if it's not your cup of tea, that's fine. I can't say it's mine either. But I feel like criticizing bsd now for how it's always been falls quite short, because it really feels like demanding from it what it never promised to deliver in the first place. That's just as far as my current perception of the series goes, though, so feel free to disagree with me on this.

#Btw this is not me comparing Holmes character with Dazai character.#Holmes character is something Dazai character will never be (respectful of women)#The also real difference between Holmes and Dazai is that one author loathes the character with everything that's in them–#and the other author loves the character with everything that's in them #I've also briefly mentioned before that Atsushi is a very Watson-like figure in the way it uses as someone deeply human‚#sympathetic to the reader and that the reader can see themselves in‚#plot device so that Holmes has someone he can explain his deduction to and with his awe further underlines and uplifts Holmes' genius #Also sassy #osamu dazai #bsd #bungou stray dogs #bsd s5 #Wow and here's me putting my season 5 thoughts down after three months. tadashi yamaguchi - cooking genius

a/n = finally found some time to write something with the mess that is school starting last week, and i'm not really the happiest with this work to be honest T-T also i've been reading one piece lately and i absolutely LOVE sanji hence why using his character in this fic

summary = a (not so) secret admirer starts leaving lunches on your desk everyday at school.

warnings = nothing really, pure fluff.

yamaguchi was feeling gloomy from the moment you turned the tv on.

the two of you had a tradition; two times every week, you would meet up at either your or his house, watching different tv shows and movies together as a way to relax from school, volleyball, and other stressful things filling your lives. it was a perfect deal; you finally had someone to talk to about your current hyperfixations, and thanks to you, he finally had the motivation to watch all the things he never truly picked up.

so when you suggested rewatching your childhood favorite series, one piece, he was more than happy to agree. well, at least at first.

a grimace was almost stuck to his face the whole time since a certain blonde cook appeared on the screen, taking in all of your comments about your favorite character as the episodes went by. he listened as you gushed over the blonde, pupils almost heart-shaped at the sight of him in every scene, mumbling something along the lines of loving guys who can cook well as your hands went to grab the snacks.

but somehow, his lack of excitement went unnoticed by you; your focus being completely and utterly on the screen, invested in the story you already knew by heart. what you did notice, though, was a bento box lying on your desk at school a few days later, with a small note on top of it.

'made these just for you :)'

your head immediately turned towards yamaguchi, a tap on the shoulder being enough for him to turn around to you with a questioning look on his face.

"did you see who left it here?" yamaguchi shook his head in response, a soft sigh leaving your lips as you sat down and opened the box, eyes scanning the food inside.

you barely missed the faint blush and shy smile on your friend's face as he watched you notice all your favorite foods inside, digging into one of them with the happiest look in your eyes.

as days went by, more and more boxes appeared on your desk, the food in each one, to your surprise, tasting better than previous meals you got. each one came with another sweet note; whether a compliment or just something nice to make you smile for the rest of the day. before you knew it, you were stuck wondering who could it be; yamaguchi being the victim of listening to all your (terribly wrong) speculations about who might be behind all of this.

"ahh, i wish i knew who it is." you mumbled under your breath, pen scribbling little doodles on your english notebook, the empty box lying next to it with a few crumbs of the food inside. "you know, i might just marry them on the spot."

yamaguchi's eyes widened hearing those words, a faint blush on his face as he listened to your rambling, tsukishima's comment of how corny you were being going completely unnoticed by him.

he could hear the exciting squeals from you when the next day at school, the note on your bento box was something completely different than before.

'meet me at the history section in the library after classes, please :)'

when the bell rang, signaling the end of your last class that day, you ran to the place as fast as you could, breath shortening with each passing moment as the adrenaline mixed with stress ran through your body.

the history books section was one at the very end of the library, your steps slowing down as you approached the place. when your head finally turned to face the person hiding behind everything that's been making you smile for the last few weeks, you almost couldn't believe it.

"you came." a shy smile appeared on yamaguchi's face, hands trembling as he took in your surprised expression. "i- i was a bit scared you'd back out last second because you changed your mind or somethi-"

"it was you this whole time?"

your body froze, a thousand thoughts flooding your mind all at once. how did you miss the fact that it was yamaguchi? he was the only one who could possibly know you so well to pull this off.

the only one who could actually put in so much effort.

seeing yamaguchi nod in answer made your body react before your mind could even fully comprehend the situation; arms wrapping tightly around the boy's figure, head hidden in the crook of his neck. soon enough you could feel his hands creeping around your waist as well, unsure movements as he gently pulled you even closer to him.

"you said you liked guys who can cook well," his words were a faint whisper as he started explaining, the lack of eye contact with you in this very moment helping him properly voice his thoughts. "tsukishima said it was stupid and i should confess to you already because in his words, it's obvious you feel the same way."

"well, he was right about one thing, at least."

you pulled away from the hug, eyes locking with his as your hands made their way to his, gently squeezing them. yamaguchi had no idea what made his face more red at that moment; the fact that you could feel just how shaky his hands were, or the fact that you just admitted to liking him back.

"i've always liked you, tadashi." hearing those words, he thought he was imagining things. and yet, this whole situation was really happening; it wasn't another one of his stupid dreams, another dumb fantasy of his. "you've just given me another reason to do so now."

yamaguchi blinked. once, twice. his body was frozen on the spot, and yet somehow he managed to let a few words out, said so quietly that you almost didn't hear them.

"so, does that mean... you'll go out with me?"

you leaned in, placing a quick kiss on his cheek, and you could swear that you heard him gasp as you did so.

"i would love to."

Mashing together this theory and another one (but I can’t find it for the life of me) where Grace is the reason NPMD happens, more specifically that the Lords In Black have a hold of Grace before the plot even sets in motion.

First piece of ‘evidence’ is the whole Dirty Girl scene. The whole thing is a sexual fantasy which Grace doesn’t even realize is happening until halfway through: “Max Jägerman? What are you doing in my bathroom?” And the fact that he’s wearing a crucifix which sorta seems out of character for him, but fits what I imagine Grace sees as the ‘ideal version’ of Max.

But also, she is woken up from her bath fantasy by her dad, meaning it was more of a dream than a ‘daydream’. Also, she holds her hand up in confusion as if she didn’t know she was doing that in the first place??? Very sus

Next piece is more the vibe of her character the whole musical. (Keep in mind I haven’t watched any of the Nightmare Time episodes so I don’t know much about Abstinence Camp but I’ve heard some stuff about her being unhinged there as well. Still, my theory is specifically about Grace in NPMD.)

Anyway, it seems really weird that this girl is clinging to the idea of being pure and not a sinner (she wouldn’t even let Max hold her books because ‘she’s only 18’, seeing that as being a step toward her and Max being “in carnal embrace”) and here she is lying to her family, lying to the police, stealing a gun, and cursing at God. Also also, SHE DISMEMBERED AND HID A DEAD FUCKING BODY. And lying is the sin she’s worried about? Talk about one fucked up moral compass lol.

And my last piece is the summoning. This one is a two parter cause there’s a couple things happening here. First is the actual summoning part. When Grace, Steph, and Pete are on the floor, they look pretty terrified and confused, but right before the Lords in Black show up, Grace makes a face of either pain or discomfort which is very different from Steph and Pete’s terror. Grace is literally wincing and curling in on herself. Just something me and a few other people noticed.

And the second part of the summoning is Blinky. He literally says that they’ve been watching her and they know all the bad things she’s done. Isn’t that kinda weird that the Lord’s in Black have taken an interest in Grace and ‘haven’t done anything about it’? Between Wiggly and Pokey, they love getting involved in their little shenanigans in Hatchetfield but this time they just sat back and did absolutely nothing? I don’t think so.

Anyway, maybe I’m delusional and none of that makes any sense or I’m a damn genius lol. I would love to hear your thoughts on this about whether or not it works!

only friends episode 3 thoughts/debrief

ok so this episode was mad. and there's a lot to talk about.

Boston: I hate him. i feel like we're all so busy debating whether or whether not Mew's a bad person that we just let Boston be diabolical. i hate the way he toys with Nick and purposefully give him hope also the way he manipulates Nick into being ok with their dynamic; reprimanding Nick's valid concerns by calling him dramatic and convinces Nick to be ok with their current dynamic (implying that a relationship may be possible as long as Nick "keeps being so lovely")

this episode further proves to me that Boston doesn't actually want a real relationship with Top he just wants the control.

i think Boston views sex as a transaction and is used to using his body/sexuality as currency based on the way he reacts to Nick turning down his offer of sex in return for the cctv camera's.

i don't know why but i feel like Boston had feelings for/was attracted to Mew and was shot down, my reasoning is his comment to Nick about Top and his tweets. him comforting Nick by telling him he prefers cute to hot got me thinking and his old tweets about entitled to someone felt too intentionally vague.

part of me feels like Boston does like Nick. Boston seems like a commitment-phobe he hates the idea of being 'tied down' but enjoys the idea of someone being committed to him. in the scene of him and Nick in the car he tells Nick that he can define their relationship however he wants and i genuinely believe he means that because then he get's to have his cake and eat it too, he get's to reap all the boyfriend benefits without having to actually be in a real relationship and Nick get's to decide what they are.

bottom line Boston and Nick are now basically label-less which comes with it's own set of problems, a lack of labels means a lack of boundaries.

Nick: Nick doesn't seem to have any friends outside of Sand or at least none he feels comfortable enough around to ask for advice causing him to tur to twitter.

i think Nick way smarter than we anticipated, seeing photo's of Boston and Top and immediately deciding to look into it instead of giving Boston the benefit of the doubt showing that while he definitely likes Boston he also isn't delusional, him bugging the car while crazy and invasive is also pure genius.

while i know Nicks going to use the video to try and get Boston to date him part of me doesn't want him to, i want him to either use it to get Boston to come clean or show it to Mew because he deserves to know.

Mew: the more episodes i watch the more i begin to doubt the whole 'Mew the master manipulator' thing.

i was expecting him to be completely sober when he shut the door but he wasn't.

i think Mew is to Ray what Cheum is to him, his biggest supporter, the way he hypes way up to talk to Sand shows how much he cares, i think the photos are completely out of context.

i personally think the reason we want Mew to be a bad person is because it softens the blow of all the shit that's going to happen to him, it's a lot easier to watch someone suffer when we think they deserve it.

Top: I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU, WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU HOW DARE YOU.

no but for real Top got on my nerves this episode, is he allergic to communication or something.?

him seeing a photo from two years ago and using it as a reason to cheat is crazy because what supposedly happened between Mew and Ray TWO YEARS AGO none of your business but also it's a picture of them kissing that doesn't prove Boston's point Mew said he's a virgin not that he's never kissed anyone.

it's mental that he thinks a 'kiss' between two friends TWO YEARS prior to their relationship as a justification for cheating on him in present day.

Ray: i think it's interesting that the only way Boston's plan worked was by implying Mew was in danger of getting hurt which leads me to believe that Ray's love for Mew is entirely selfless. while i think Ray will always love Mew i also think he's falling out of love with him.

i understand why Ray dropped everything to pick up Mew because Mew is locked out on his own drunk (we know he doesn't drink.)

Ray's issues being handled with a surprising amount of seriousness (i.e being told to see a shrink, someone saying he spends more time at the bar than college) it's refreshing to see.

Sand: while i completely get why sand decides to not sleep with Ray because he's afraid of growing attached but in my opinion he's shot himself in the foot because they're gonna keep hanging out and he's gonna fall for ray's personality which is a lot harder to explain away.

yeah today's episode was mad, this is definitely going to be a weekly thing.

Thank you so, so much for coming back with more, so I hope you won't mind if I'd gladly like to continue our dialogue of sorts.

Yes, Anna Foerster did wonders for OL and singlehandedly elevated what could very well be pathetic porn to flawless Art, which is spectacular and responsible for at least half of the immediate sympathy (and more...) tsunami, on behalf of These Two and of the whole project. I personally did find Gabaldon's gaze a bit wanting when it comes to intimacy, but cannot really blame or fault her: I think it might be a generational thing, rather. What the series brought to this was novelty and magic and (well, yes...) truth. When you add these three elements, the result is dynamite.

Take this particular (very loaded) moment, for example:

This is a woman's gaze on an intimate scene totally (shamelessly?) owned by another woman. He is under her spell and happy to remain there (for the rest of his life, as we know from the books) and this is Moment Number Two - not yet love (that would be Tartan Moment Number Three, in my book), but raw (and yes, very modern), devastating physical attraction. The genius is to put that very cerebral, almost subdued filter on the circumstance and let the tiny gestures (his hand throwing the shirt in concession) speak for themselves.

What episode of Season One did you like the most? And what do you think about the IC's work in the last seasons, ignoring for a moment the fact that, according to the last SAG-AFTRA agreement with TPTB, their presence on set is now almost mandatory when nudity scenes are scripted?

And yes. I shall definitely come visit. Now yes. More than ever :) I raise you a coffee in Athens or wherever I might be posted next on this planet. Deal, Anon?

LET'S BEGIN.

• FAVORITE KISS SCENE

I genuinely can't choose between two of them. From the same episode.

FIRST UP:

Team's heel is the star of this shot. Prem is a genius. Even if he didn't do it on purpose, his subconscious is a genius. I know some people didn't like this wide shot and wanted to stay rammed up on their faces, which I totally understand, but I love the wide shot because it introduced me to my good friend Team's Popped Heel.

ALSO.

FUCK?

The panting as they change angles? GEE. ZUSS.

Okay, fine, this one is my favorite. Like, holy shit, to bring this out in episode two was brilliant. There's no, like, "Team was so shaken by his first time, he doesn't know what he really wants." Nope. This is clear attraction.

(The BU specials honestly worried me when I first saw them in 2021 because of how hard they leaned into the weird heteronormative Nooooo I Don't Want to Have Sex with You for I Am and Have a Pure and Chaste Bottom angle, so watching this kiss at, like, 2am while I was in Japan for work reassured me that they weren't going to show Win as, like, some predatory bisexual and Team as stereotypically reluctant. Team's just as into Win.)

That kiss is legendary. They just look like they'll die if they don't make out next to the pool on camera. (Moment of silence for Dean.)

BUT I ALSO WANT TO TALK ABOUT THIS KISS:

Not just "the locker room scene kiss" because 1) they kiss a lot while they're back there, and 2) this one specifically. Look at Team! You can't see his lips (because Win is on them) but you can tell that he's smiling.

And whyyy?

'Cos Win's a menace. <3

I love this whole scene because it doesn't exist in the novel! After their one-night stand in the novel, WinTeam don't kiss again until much, much later. Including this scene really establishes the nature of their physical relationship that, for me, made the upcoming struggle between True Intimacy and Casual Sex all the more turbulent and realistic.

I mean, you've got Team biting his lip, the wrist-pinning, the panting. They're viscerally attracted to each other. This isn't just Win pursuing Team like he does in the last scene of episode one; this establishes interest from both of them. Team followed him in episode one, but he didn't give it much thought there. And he looks kind of like, "……Well, fuck it, I guess."

In episode two, he thinks about it much longer, and his expression is

much more determined. He wasn't caught off-guard this time. Win asked for consent, he got it, they kissed, and then Win gave him space to decide if he wanted more. Team could have easily left! He already had his backpack, and he had his own car to get home.

Win, my Green Flag Son. <3

I think this was one of the more challenging scenes for Prem based on comments he made early in filming, and I can honestly see why. Kisses are difficult to film. You have to think about technical aspects like what the camera can see while balancing the authenticity of what you're doing, and you're working with another person, so even if you're doing fine, your partner might not be. Like, I'm obviously biased toward WinTeam and BounPrem, but I genuinely think this episode has the most realistic kissing I've seen in any series. Because they both look starving for it. They don't just mash their mouths together and wait for the scene to cut. The heavy breathing, where they're looking, all the little details create a really nuanced atmosphere to the scene.

I don't know that I'd call New a great director from an audience's perspective (especially if he was the one in the editing room for this series), but he's undeniably fantastic with actors. Filming a scene with this much raw honesty and physical passion could have been wildly awkward, but Boun and Prem are both visibly comfortable and that allows them to show the best of their abilities. Award-winning kiss, mwah.

• FAVORITE CUDDLY SCENE

OKAY SO. There are so many? SO MANY OF THEM in Between Us. And I'm very grateful for that because cuddling is my favorite. So it might be surprising that in the vast array of options I picked something so quick, but it's this:

It's only seconds long, but there's something especially soft about WinTeam asleep together on Valentine's Day. Win's arm around Team all bundled up because Team runs cold, Team tucked into Win's side, the two of them all peaceful before Tul ruins their night. :'(

Also, like, poor View. Win probably called him like, "Go next door, our brother is unconscious," and View just like, "How…did you know? HIA, ARE YOU PSYCHIC."

Like, it's the implication that this is their new normal. They know what they are to each other now, and they're happy and safe with each other. I'm going to cry I love them so much.

• FAVORITE ROMANTIC SCENE

Maybe it's an odd choice for this category but honestly, this scene:

For multiple reasons!

Because I think it's the first time Win actually decides to rely on Team, which is something Team's made clear that he wants.

Because I think it's the first time they're acting as true equals on an emotional level. Team wants to know Win better than anyone, and this is Win letting him see what he hides from literally everyone else in his life.

And I think my definition of romantic has changed as I've gotten older, but to me there's nothing more romantic than trusting your moments of fragility and vulnerability to someone.

• FAVORITE "TEASE" SCENE

Hands down this one:

Because as much as I love cuddly, sweet WinTeam, at their core they're a feral pair of loud dumbasses. <3

Hey yknow Glitch Productions? I’m gonna rank their villains.

Waluigi- 6/10. A funny interpretation of the “Everyone is Here!” Meme.

Bob- 8/10. The Rapper Bob Arc might be low stakes, but I really like how it twists a side character into a main antagonist. Bob slowly revealing just how twisted he’d become is amazing, and I’m glad they don’t forgive him right away.

Francis- 7/10. He’s the worst dude ever. Y’all remember when the Anime Arc was the darkest? Yeah me neither. In any case, Francis is also terrifying because if you’ve been on the internet for long enough, you’ve probably met someone like him.

SMG3- 8/10. Making a recurring villain the main villain of an arc was a solid choice, and it’s certainly menacing watching him replace the entire cast. I don’t have much else to say.

SMG0 (Or Eldritch Zero if you’re @itsgemystic)-6/10. He doesn’t really get much development other than his verses in the rap battle. He of course has to possess Axol because of course he does. We need some of that artificial drama and angst.

Niles- 8/10. The building tension in the arc of “Who is this guy? Why is he helping Melony? Why is his name Niles?” The slow realization of “Oh shit is this Zero?” has a looming presence. He doesn’t do much in the finale though.

Lawyer Kong- 4/10. He is essentially the representation of the existential dread that Nintendo has on the channel. But he’s not really utilized well. Small tangent, but the rap battle just feels so overconfident and exaggerated on the part of the SMG4 crew. I do adore his vocals just being drawn from the OG DK rap’s vocals. He sounds great, especially during the rap battle.

Wren- 9/10. He has some buildup as this greatly skilled champion during prior episodes and some allusions to him being looked down upon in recent years. Him being a villain isn’t too surprising, as the simulation itself builds him up as a dangerous outlaw. He immediately makes an impact on Meggy and the audience from just a few scenes. Overall, he’s a great execution of the “Pure Evil” trope. He doesn’t need to be redeemed. You understand his actions and know that he was influenced by someone else, but he’s still a terrible person.

Derek Lucks- 8/10. He’s a prideful businessman who won’t let morality get in the way of making money and advancing the industry.

James Sheridan- 8/10. He’s a scientist who spent years in the shadows, never getting recognized for his accomplishments. So now he’s going to show the world what he can do. He could’ve used more buildup, but he’s still a menacing villain whose presence is felt through the whole season.

Evelyn Claythorne- 9/10. She’s a spoiled rich white girl. That’s about it. She has some nuance, but it’s really not much. It’s incredible watching her getting slapped in the final episode imo.

Benedict- 7/10. He’s an evil genius crime boss who wants to be immortal. He’s not too complex or too threatening, but he’s definitely dangerous and immoral. Why does Meggy always have to fight the irredeemable ones?

EDIT: Okay so a few episodes of Murders Drones later and I have to rank…

The Absolute Solver- 8/10. Comedic and scary, but mostly exists to get the plot moving. Definitely menacing as of now, but I might update this once episode 7 is out, and definitely once episode 8 is out.

Apritello Express Evidences: Movie

First of all, I would like to note that the turtle movie is NOT a romantic movie. This film focuses on the family, on the development of the characters of Raph and Leo in the first place, hences all the attention to them. Most of the timing, scenario tricks are designed to HIGHLIGHT, to show it.

I would also like to emphasize that this is MY opinion, you can either agree or disagree with it. I will be glad to see your own in the comments below. And also - my deepest gratitude to @jazzymarie1006 for your support and messages. And Kris, of course (I love ya buddy) And now - after this preamble, I'd like start.

As it was revealed earlier, Apritello is not just a peering in the forehead, this pairing is not about imposing or shoved our dear buns into your face from the screen, as it was in the TMNT-12. I sincerely believe that there is a connection between A&D, and not a connection at the level of a brother and sister, but deeper and more tremulous, more tender and gentle than friendly or even best- friendly. Again - Apritello is served contextually, natively, through certain gestures and small phrases.

I adore this scene with all my heart, moreover, this scene repeats and IS evolving , changing in the course of the film.

Firstly: the composition of the scene itself is built so that the viewer sees the interaction of Donny and April, and not Donny and the family WITH April.

Donnie explains for his ways of dealing with anxiety, and their interaction here is pure gold. It's just cute, in addition, it feels like Donnie is explaining his reason to April. His gaze, his posture - everything here is so telling that I don't even need to add anything.

And if you doubt that Donnie's attention is really focused on April, look for yourself: the truth is born in comparison.

But I WILL say: they are cute. Just cute. And moreover, as I said, these pokemons are also evolving.

The connection between April and Donnie is felt much deeper than it was shown in the series:

Such a great picture full of details. A bunch of references, hello there: a microwave oven (episode war and pizza, with a flying microwave oven, as well as a Splinter microwave - Donatello's creations; huge hammers - very often Don uses huge sledgehammers in battle, cute reference. Donnie's stomach, I believe, is a reference to the episode "Pizza puffs", on Tummytello himself.

But this whole list is important not only by nods in the direction of certain series. This whole brainstorm diagram is confirmation that April O'Neill has an incredible level of power in this family. I dare say that April is the only one in the family who has full access to Donatello's laboratory, to his developments and inventions. And this access was granted to her by Donnie himself for sure.

Let me clarify: Don is very scrupulous when it comes to his territory. Don's lab is his and only his space, so it was shown in the show. The brothers did not have access there, the laboratory itself is locked as a rule and has many degrees of protection. Given that April was aware of Donnie's nickname long before the brothers, it would not be at all surprising that April is aware of how to get into his lab.

Microwave, laser, black hole, acids, jackhammer… it's all 100% owned by the greatest turtle genius™.

Funny easter egg: Zettaflare is a powerful magic spell used by Donald Duck at a pivotal point in Kingdom Hearts III. Donald is also the used form of the name Donatello in the family (from Leo and Mikey mostly).

An equally delicious scene: Splinter and April escape from the lair, and again - details.

April does not contact Leonardo directly, who is in charge of the mission. We just don't get to see the moment that April can't get through to him, as it was with Leo:

Leo: Donnie, Mikey, anybody?

While Leo contacts to every turtle he could, April April contacts Don directly right away. Directly.

This is indicative on the one hand, and logical on the other. In a moment of panic, April calls Don directly, who will be able to come up with a way out that will be able to coordinate her, because he is usually aware of everything that is happening. Let's also add that April DOESN'T know what condition the guys and the operation are in. She DOESN'T know how they are divided, or if they are alive at all.

April: Donnie! Come in! They found us. Where should we go? Donnie?!

And - her face. Her face changes as soon as she cried his name, because Donnie was still able to get in touch. April is genuinely worried, and her experience becomes even deeper when Don describes the situation. She rushes there at the first call.

And can we talk about this whole situation?

Donnie keeps April's bat. It's not only nod to the show itself:

but also made me think about Commander O'Neil design.

Some points here:

- April’s weapon is not a bat or gun. It’s bo-stuff. Pretty close to one before Hamato Nimpo's one and this one.

- April’s torso armour is built alike Donnie’s plastron. Unlike his brother’s, Don has smooth plastron without a “bump”. It makes sense: among the brothers Dee has the most similar to human’s body. It will be perfect fit at April’s anatomy and protect her inners.

- goggles. April wears a cat-like red glasses in present but in future her goggles are quite similar to Donnie’s one. It’s sad we didn’t gain Future Donatello’s design but i do believe he worn something like that. You see, his trade mark hasn’t change with years, I have strong doubts about Donnie changed hard in future. His gear hadn’t change since he was 12. It’s a statement.

- her knee-pads is designed like Don’s.

From those details only it’s easy to say how strong their boundary was. April WANTS to remember Donnie, her gear is his legacy.

Don, in turn, always keeps April's weapon with him, which is somewhat sentimental. In this way, I suppose, in his strange way, he protects her. Thus, the Apritello team has unlocked a new achievement: Partners in crimes Arms.

And well, they really are, because they even fight side by side:

The bat! Which magically appeared thanks to Don, because April threw the contents of her bag when she tried to fight off the Krang sister and she ain't have any from the beginning unless breaking out from the lair.

Both them fighting WITH each other and FOR each other is important. Usually April is more openly to her saving activities with Donnie while he seems to be total stranger to it.

I may assure you: it's nothing like that. April's coming to the rescue of booty one certain turtle, moreover April is quite... showing off. Like a knight in a shiny armour.

And Donnie feels secure about it. They both is a great team. April has an inconceivable energy plus rad, even mad and sick skills, Donnie works great with it.

Donnie: Is it late to join April?..

(Jeeez. Those vibes. I'm dead every time)

And thing I like the most - Donnie protects April, too. In his own specific way.

Yeah, he was checking on her. He did it immediately. Just sayin'. nothing to see here, right? (Said aeempress with not even a slightest hint on sarcasm).

Full circle, guys! FULL-GODDAMN-CIRCLE!

Oh. And this. My precious treasure. My guilty pleasure of sore eyes of mine.

I'm sorry, but Donnie, who is experiencing the tactile contact with someone for quite a long scene (7 seconds), and feels absolutely comfortable about it. And it's NOT MIKEY. This pose of April is a bit possessive, showing April's sympathy for Donnie. I'm clinging to this scene because it's a hug option for Apritello.

During the whole show, we saw their hugs only once, and then - in a rush of shared and very strong emotional stressful occasion. We didn't get them for the whole movie either, and here it's about Donatello's character. As it seems, Donnie has autistic features such as: flat voice, hyper-fixating at some of his areas such as math, engineering, tends to classify everything about himself and pushing others to get along with that (which fails). He's self-invested and more importantly - he has low empathy (emotional issues) and tactility issues.

He doesn't really like tactility (with the exception of Mikey and group interactions, most of that was initiated by him). Donnie is just not the type of turtle that handles it easily. The fact that he lets April rest her elbow and lean on is an indicator. The silently yelling one. On the other hand, just think: this is the most inconvenient for April. The softshell is much taller, besides, there is a battleshell on his shoulders, which also does not contribute to the comfort. However, April doesn't take her arm away even when Don gestures (it's even harder to hold her shoulder and elbow like that when someone moves).

Don is in a battleshell and will not take it off, because of vulnerability - he has suffered enough without a battleshell in the film. The second reason is his extremely high sensitivity to touch, which was as shown through out the film:

The fact that Don is uncomfortable when someone hugs him spontaneously is also evidenced by Raph:

Raph: Don't worry, Donnie! It's NOT a HUG, IT'S RESCUE!

And Still we DO have indirect huggings:

So - yeah. It's not many, but still - we've got something. Something - more than nothing, we should cherish that. Do hope to see their further developing and jou these two will bring in.

♡ Intimate Moments | Autumn & Darion

* Autumn and Darion are talking in the shade lounge*

A: Ok, so let me get this straight… you, your father, AND your grandfather allllll have been following each other’s footsteps in the military? That is so amazing, and definitely what you call a legacy.

D: For sure. You know, its in my blood and I can feel it. It’s crazy, when I tell people I feel comfortable traveling across the globe to undisclosed locations to help lead a whole crew into conflict… People look at me kind of the way you are right now.

A&D: [laughing]

D: But enough about me, I wanna know more about you. What makes you tick?

A: Well, I don’t have as grand of adventures are you do… But let’s see… I graduated at the top of my class and am currently enrolled in the fashion institute of technology. Right after I started there I also started working for a magazine called allure, and that’s what I have been working on for a while now… So, yeah! That’s pretty much it for me.

D: So you are a true genius, I could tell. But, what do you do for fun?

A: What do you mean? I love what I do for work!

D: I get that, you don’t have to tell me about having passion for your job… But, what do you find yourself thinking about when… Hmmm, let’s say you get a whole week off of work, you have no homework, no responsibilities. What do you find yourself doing?

A: Oh my gosh, its been so long since I haven’t had something on my schedule… But, I actually love to play the violin. I don’t do it as much as I should… or want to.

D: That’s incredible Autumn! You should always make time to do what you love. If you don’t mind me asking, what motivates you to play when you do get around to it?

A: No one has ever asked me that before, but honestly, when I get going, the sound of the strings vibrating together in perfect harmony, it makes me feel like… Oh wow, this is going to sound so stupid!

D: Nothing you say could ever be stupid.

A: Ok, well you asked for it. When I hear the music I’m playing, I feel like I’m in the middle of a really great conversation with my closest friends. The kind where everyone is engaging and involved, and the beauty of our voices echo and create a symphony of pure togetherness.

D: That is so beautiful Autumn. You really are the most incredible, inside and out.

A: Thanks… You know, I’ve never told anyone that before.

D: Well I feel honoured

Oh a lot happened in that episode. I was actively annotating it in my notes app the whole time but that got really long so I'll summarize my thoughts for you.

First of all, boy was that a roller coaster ride. I was taken so off guard by Kellin in the beginning there. That is such a good choice from a writing perspective, hearing Kellin of all people answer raises so many different questions at once, it's brilliant. And then for a good portion of time in the beginning you're utterly unsure what's happening and you just occasionally hear John panicking in the background and it's so good. It's so good.

Secondly, we just summed up all of Arthur's self loathing in a single episode here, didn't we? Plus got even more new information about Bella and Faroe. I cried. This episode made me cry. Arthur's tragic backstory just keeps getting tragicker with no sign of stopping.

The line "I can't live for someone else" hit me like a punch to the stomach. The way it applies to so many things. He was talking about Bella, but also the guilt he feels for enjoying life after Faroe's death? It made that hurt so much more. And John. It was something that Arthur said in the past, but the implications of it about John are. So interesting.

On the topic of John. He's hiding something. And Arthur knows it. I just need the two of them to have an open, honest conversation where John explains what happened with Kayne and Arthur trusts him again and then their friends and everything's good and their both fine. I know that's not going to happen.

And now I think it's time we address the proverbial elephant. So Arthur was sleepwalking. And was tricked into releasing this Mr. Scratch. What the fuck is Mr. Scratch? I don't know. Arthur doesn't know. But it's out now. And going to go inflict some nightmares and horror on other people. But not Arthur. Arthur's it's favorite. Also the editing in this was so good. The way you could hear the audio from different ears as it paced back and forth.

And the radio. The radio at the end. Just like in the first episode. What's the deal with that.

Hearing so many different voices in this episode made me appreciate even more the pure talent of this man. And so many little things about the writing were done with such skill and care and it's beautiful. Harlan Guthrie is an amazing insane genius.

Also I kind of laughed a little bit at Arthur referring to Larson as Wally. I think he's picking up habits from Kayne. That and the fact that when he said "fuck you, James" it sounded exactly like the fuck you in I'm at soup malevolent version.

Anyway, that's all today's edition of me going insane over podcasts, drive safely and have a good night!

PHEW. Okay. Same GAD + SAD anon back one last time (at least, one last time introducing myself like that, I am too lazy to keep that up forever. I need a more concise way to identify myself.)

Just as I thought, I fell for cringefail darling. She’s just…so me. I want to put her in my pocket and protect her from Chrollo.

I could write a whole essay about Idée Fixe if I had the time, but I won’t let the cringefail in me win like that today.

For now, I’ll just talk about how much I loved how you wrote the darling this time. Your descriptions of anxiety were spot-on—it really put everything I feel during moments of intense anxiety into words. And your way of addressing darling’s aversion to physical intimacy and the irrational anxiety despite knowing (or, well, thinking) she’s safe with him was absolutely perfect. I was able to really see myself in a darling for the first time—sincerely, thank you for writing cringefail darlimg with an amazingly accurate depiction of anxiety without eliminating the fact that she is still a capable human being…despite being the embodiment of cringefail.

And Chrollo…all the signs were there, and obviously I knew how things were going to turn out, but I still found myself wanting to believe that he had nothing but pure intentions. He’s just so…frustratingly genuine, even in his deception. The way you write him evokes this frustration from me every time without fail, in a good way! And then he just turns around and drugs dear cringefail darling to keep her anxiety in-check during what is likely one of the most anxiety-inducing moments of her life (and also probably to keep her from being able to function at 100%, but let me pretend he has nothing but good intentions). He’s such a genius—you’re such a genius—and I hate him so much for it.

I’ll stop myself here to save us both the time it would take to read/write any more of this, but these are only a fraction of my thoughts on the fic. Just know that all the time you put into writing Idée Fixe was well worth it, and just…thank you again for writing a reader I can see myself in so well 💖 Maybe I’m just cringefail anon at this point. Who knows.

we are forming the protect cringefail darling coalition™, one member at a time.

portraying anxiety in this fic felt different compared to other yandere stories, so i was hoping it'd come across decently. in my experience, even if you aren't feeling anxious, you're just Hyper Aware of everything. the slightest change in tone, body language, etc. you're just perpetually going 👁👁. i thought this would be a neat similarity to chrollo, who is also rather perceptive. he can finally get a taste of his own medicine. although, cringefail darling doesn't have malicious intent.

chrollo and deception... name a more iconic duo... he spices it up by sometimes being genuine, but even that is calculated with some sort of end goal in mind. revealing elements of his tragic past is an example of this . the man knew it'd tug majorly on cringefail darling's heartstrings. he kept out the more macabre details, yet included enough of the truth to really earn her sympathy.

him using the beta blockers. whew. he figured it'd be killing two birds with one stone. while he likes messing with cringefail darling some, he doesn't derive any satisfaction from her being in a major anxiety episode. how nice of him. so he gets to avoid that (at least for now) and have her in a better state to receive all the unfortunate information he's been tactfully omitting for months now. it's a win win.

Let's take a moment to appreciate everyone who got knocked out in round one, and everything I like about them.

Mammon (Obey Me)

Mammon the love of my life Mammon. </3 Yes he's a demon, yes he's the avatar of greed, yes he's "the scummy brother", but with a heart of gold, deep down inside. Very deep down. Plus he's funny and secretly sensitive and he likes to cuddle. <3 I'm honestly shocked he got knocked out in round one, I always thought he was quite a tumblr darling.

Hercule Flambeau (Father Brown)

Everyone loves a gentleman thief, don't they? Especially one with a homoerotic relationship with his narrative foil? A master of disguise? A secret sadboy with a tragic backstory? A man who broke out of prison? World's sluttiest absent father? When will your man ever.

Inspector Mallory (Father Brown)

I LOVE HIM SO MUCH YOU HAVE NO IDEA. He's such a funny character. Little angry northern bastard man. He's awful, and should be easy to hate, but he just suffers so often and suffers so beautifully, you can't help but root for him to win, just once. And he loves his kids! A short king and a DILF.

James E. Negatus (Yonderland)

Listen. Listen. I could never love anyone like I love Negatus. He occupies a special and unique part of my heart just for him. He's babygirl. He's daddy. He's cringefail. He's badass. He's gender. He's really really kinky. I cannot understate this, this is the fetish fuel show and it's like 70% his fault. He's on a mission to kill the hero but he's also sort of in love with her. I'm never not going to go feral for that. He has a tragic backstory and a softness for small children and small animals. He's canonically committed multiple warcrimes, several murders, and also demon-genocide. He's done nothing wrong ever in his life <3

Louis Fairhead (Casualty)

My sweet prince when will he return from war? It's been so long since the show ever even so much as acknowledged him. He wasn't even at his own father's wedding to a woman Louis was practically part-raised by. I think he's fallen into a crack in space and time. Anyway I love Louis. I don't even think he's a bad guy. He's had the most traumatic life imaginable. His mother died in a car accident while he was in the car. He got kidnapped once. One time he nearly got blown up. This was all before he was ten. Then as a teenager he became a drug addict. And as a young adult he had a heroin overdose. I think he's within his rights to be an angry and emotionally distant man. I would defend him to the death. I just want him to be safe and happy and healthy. Feel like pure shit just want him back.

Aristide Valentin (the Father Brown books)

First of all Aristide Valentin did nothing wrong so jot that down. YES he committed murder. But he murdered a Catholic pro-guillotine billionaire so it barely counts. He also stole human remains but this is tumblr, we're used to that. He's a skilled swordsman with a vast sword collection which is just the sexiest thing imaginable. YES he's rude to everyone but you don't UNDERSTAND, he's a genius surrounded by idiots, he gets frustrated. Also he's Parisian, they're just like that I think, he can't help it. Honestly his only real crime is smoking while on the underground platform at Liverpool Street station. That's unforgivable.

Barclay Beg-Chetwynde (BBC Ghosts)

Honestly one of the funniest characters in the show, I don't even care. Every episode he's in is a delight. Every single line delivery is so deliciously bastardly. And he makes a brilliant foil to my two favourite characters, Julian and Alison. He's great.

B.Z. (Santa Claus The Movie)

I love this movie. I love this movie a lot. I've watched it at least twice a year every year since I was a toddler. Often more. I could quote the whole film by heart. And my guy B.Z. is by far the most quotable character. Highlight of the whole film. Every single line of his lives rent free in my head. He has beef with Santa Claus for literally no good reason. He chained up a child for even less good reason. He invented Christmas 2. He exited the movie by eating too many magic flying lollypops and floating away into the stratosphere. Utterly unhinged from first scene to last. Literally no-one could ever compare.

Kerr Avon (Blakes 7)

Ah, Avon. I was obsessed with him as an edgy teen. I think in many ways he is the edgy teen appeal character of his genre. He's like the Shadow the Hedgehog of dystopian sci-fi. I mean this as a sincere complement. And he's once again by far the most quotable character in the show. I feel like that's a very important factor for a good bastard man. Quotability.

I won't say I could fix him, because I don't think anyone could. But I wish someone could.

Cat (Red Dwarf)

My sweet underappreciated boy. In many shows he would be the beloved bastard man. It's not his fault he shares a show with Arnold Rimmer, and you simply can't outdo the do-er.

But everything he does, he does it in ~ style ~

Randal Graves (Clerks)

This character means such a lot to me. He's the worst, of course. He sucks. You wouldn't want to know someone like that in real life. But that's part of what's so tragic about him. He's already resigned himself to the fact he's an unlikeable asshole loser, and has long since given up even trying to make new friends, and now he's a deeply lonely weirdo trapped in a toxic co-dependant relationship with the only real friend he has, who he's simultaneously obsessed with and sort of in love with (no homo) (maybe homo) and would die for, but also treats terribly. He's just such a sad odd man. I think about him often.

Ray Carling (Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes)

Ray my best friend Ray. Yes okay so he's wildly homophobic and misogynistic, but like. Underneath that he's a very sweet and compassionate man, I promise. He's just trapped under the crushing weight of insecurity and self-loathing and societal expectations of masculinity. His backstory is heartbreaking. Absolutely devastating. I won't go into details because spoilers but Jesus Christ. He's the world's number one most single man, being the only one left not paired up out of the seven main characters across both shows, which hardly seems fair. He deserves a nice love interest I think. The way he always tries to join in with the group only get pushed out because everyone finds him unbelievably awful. The way he so wants to be Alan's friend. The way he only has the two friends he's got because he pays them to be his friend. Poor little guy. I have to believe he got it together eventually. I have to believe him and Justin were pals by the time they went to sixth form together. I have to.

Ralph Passmore (Tucker's Luck)

It's Mr Passmore! He means such a lot to me. I'm so happy they started portraying him sympathetically in series 2 because honestly? His rage is so justified. He's unemployed and he's already been cast aside as unemployable. His family have already given him up as a lost cause. His only friend and ally in his family is his younger sister, who ends up leaving home to get away from how verbally abusive their parents are. He drinks to cope and joins a gang for the companionship. He finally gets a job after years of unemployment but finds out it's exploiting vulnerable fellow working class people in his community so he angrily and aggressively quits, after befriending and supporting an old lady. What a king.
