It’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it, but the Alan Turing poster really tells us so much about Will that I consider it to be a significant piece of foreshadowing for S5.

First, let’s dissuade ourselves of the notion that Will chose Turing for his hero project for nerd reasons -- Will’s preferred flavour of nerdery is escapist fantasy, not computer science. He doesn’t know what an IP address is and the first thing he thinks of when he hears modem noises is a movie he likes.

No, he chose Turing because he admires him for being a gay man who accomplished so much in his short life.

On one hand, that’s pretty heart-warming -- the fact he’s willing to identify with other gay men and look up to them as role models shows us he’s making good progress in accepting his identity. On the other hand, it’s heart-breaking, because Turing’s story is not a happy one -- he was caught having a sexual relationship with a man and forced to choose between jail or chemical castration. He chose castration.

I remind you: Will identifies with this guy.

Will is growing up under the twin specters of AIDS and homophobia and likely assumes he’s destined to die young too. He’s been abused and bullied so much, I imagine he’s heard and internalized it all: that he deserves to die, that he’s disgusting, that he’ll never be fulfilled in life.

So when puberty begins crawling its way inside him and implants those shameful desires that make gay men so worthy of abuse... he chooses castration.

For all the sad pining he does in S4, we never really see Will express desire for Mike -- he never checks him out or shows signs of nervousness when they touch. He behaves with perfect platonic decorum at all times...

...unless we consider That One Scene With The Hose.

Sexual interpretations of this scene are controversial, and I can understand why; we’re so used to seeing Will as this innocent, immature little boy that it's shocking to catch him fantasizing so lustfully, even though these sorts of thoughts are pretty normal for a 15 year-old. But I think that’s the point. We’re supposed to feel uncomfortable about this, because Will feels uncomfortable about it too.

He’s done well in accepting his identity, but he’s an absolute repressed mess when it comes to accepting his sexuality.

So, that’s what the Turing poster tells us about Will. Here’s where the foreshadowing comes in: Will is not the only queer-coded character to have been metaphorically castrated.

Henry’s experience bears striking similarities to Turing’s: he too was caught engaging in a natural but forbidden behaviour and forced by his government to undergo a medical procedure to suppress that behaviour.

His villain speech to El in 4x07, which is ostensibly about his powers, also reads very strongly as a scathing criticism of heteronormativity, and it’s covered in rainbow motifs.

The metaphor here is obvious: Henry’s powers are a manifestation of his homosexuality.

Which implies that Will’s homosexuality can also manifest as powers. They’re repressed because he’s repressed.

It’s not a coincidence that the sexual tension was through the fucking roof in the infamous sauna scene. Every time Will’s supernatural ability to sense the Mind Flayer triggers in S3, Mike is also nearby.

What’s interesting about Mike is that his queer acceptance issues mirror Will’s: Mike has a healthy relationship with his sexuality (he casually checks guys out and plasters his bedroom walls with posters of buff dudes) but he just can’t bring himself to accept what this implies about his identity.

Always with the symmetry, these two. They complement each other perfectly; one’s hang-up is the other’s strength. They have a lot to teach each other about being queer.

And as repressed as they are, I think they want to learn from each other -- Will lets himself get flustered when Mike flirts with him in his bedroom, and Mike hangs on to every word of wisdom Will shares with him in their heart-to-hearts.

Internalized homophobia is a powerful force, but their bond is so strong that it empowers them to fight back.

Henry’s powers symbolize his anger at being mistreated and his desire to take that anger out on the world... but Will’s powers symbolize self-acceptance and love.

So he isn’t just going to defeat Vecna with his powers, and he isn’t just going to get the boy: these two things are one and the same.

Edit: (Old theory, but I still think some of this, like Will having a centrale role, is true)

Loved the Stranger Things Day. So many nice photos, and we even got the title of the first episode! But I’m fine. Not going crazy with theories or anything, lol

So.

What it probably means...

I love this title. It immediately gives you the sense of impending danger. A nice play on words to describe the spread of the Upside Down taking over Hawkins. Our heroes must do something, before it consumes everything.

But since we’re never normal about this show, theories are crawling, too. Everywhere. Everywhere...

A very normal and relaxed fan (Rae):

“And if I say this relates to both Steve’s “crawling forward” speech + Hawkins having a crawling infection + the team have to crawl/sneak around Hawkins, what then”

EDIT: Disaster spell caster tweeted this:

“The Stranger Things Wiki describes the tunnels as an organism itself that took the form of tunnels. What if the Crawl is Hawkins and the monsters are the tunnels themselves, coming alive again through the faults and helping spread the spores in the town?”

My take on this. It is also about Will’s role in stopping the “infection” once and for all at the end of the show. I say at the end, because the pen-holder was on the right side of the grid. Last episodes. Yep.

So. There could be new tunnels, of course, but there is only one person who can remember most of them. He even drew them, because they were Henry/Mind Flayer's now memories: Will.

If you read my analysis of the show you know what I mean. But to sum up:

In 1x08, the campaign ended but Will, Lucas and Dustin thought that it didn’t make sense. There still were mysteries to solve. And Will said this: "What about the weird flowers in the cave?"

A cave (tunnels). At the end of the story...

Weird flowers - The Mind Flayer as a super organism, a sort of a giant plant-mushroon (the spores) that Henry is using to control the creatures of the UD and infect the world, like he did in S2 and S3.

Owens talking to Joyce about viruses that can be cured. And then telling El he thought she was the cure (but then she lost)

The Little Shop of Horrors (a movie about an alien sentient carnivorous plant) AND The Cure posters in Will's room in S4.

Radagast as the password to enter Castle Byers in S1 as a hint that Will has Radagast’s power (the ability to communicate with animals and plants).

Yes. Imo, Will is the cure to the UD “crawling infection”.

Ed and Izzy: Cleaning up the mess

As of the end of Ep7, Ed has left Stede and his whole life behind because "he doesn't even know who he is". And I'd like to suggest in this rambling essay that Ed's journey to self-knowledge and self-love can't properly begin before he's come to terms with what happened with Izzy.

Although Ed has steadily been trying to make amends, at the start of Ep6 he's still feeling unsettled and guilty as hell about the terrible things he did (was capable of!): killing his dad, condemning his whole crew to certain death, Izzy's toe, shooting Izzy, being "killed" by Jim and the crew with Izzy looking on...

There's a surprising amount of Izzy in Ed's flashback (I was honestly surprised the toe cutting made it in - somehow the whole discussion around "Izzy deserving it" made me think Ed thought so as well? But of course he doesn't think that. Izzy does.)

And while Ed's central conflict is his underlying self-hatred and self-doubt, there still is a daily reminder of all of his worst tendencies and (still very recent) acts right under his nose.

I think I got all the poison out of my system...

...or not. The indestructible fucker's still here.

Izzy is Ed’s walking and talking guilt room and no amount of deflecting, story-telling or sugarcoating can turn that poison into positivity.

Stede, I love you for your sometimes naive, sweet outlook on life (and Ed does too), but Ed and Izzy, that’s years and years of love and devotion, resentment and hate, building each other up and tearing each other down. They’ve just come out of the absolute worst breakup in history, with so many things unsaid and unknown they’d need the whole of S3 to talk it through.

Stede applying his motivational poster line to Izzy of all people is a little bit tone deaf, especially because it happens right while Izzy’s singing a bittersweet love song about/to Ed.

Which he continues, in French, while Ed and Stede are having sex for the first time so that's definitely not helping. I wonder how good Ed's French is, but it is honestly almost comical to imagine Ed cheating on Iz making love to his new boyfriend while his ex is singing his heart out about „It's only him for me, and me for him, for life - he told me, he swore to me, for life“.

So Izzy's still here. Izzy is still visibly hurting, physically (your fault!!) and mentally (your fault as well in so many ways). And you're already over it and having fun with your new boyfriend? Of course not.

Whatever they were/are to each other specifically, Ed and Izzy were as good as married. They spent almost every day together for decades. Izzy let himself be maimed and hurt over and over again out of love and loyalty. And Ed feels very, very guilty about it. Even if this guilt is not the first thing constantly on Ed's mind, it's certainly there in the background, simmering.

On the other hand, Izzy is the one who kept Ed stationary - they had a good, secure (for pirates anyway) life together, why risk change? I don't think Izzy had noticed (or wanted to notice) how bad it'd gotten for Ed for a long time. So there's also a lot of resentment there from Ed's side, all tied up with Izzy.

It's a very complicated mess and I think that all this is at least part of the reason for Ed's confusion and need to... just go.

But that's not all, by far.

History repeating itself...

...maybe this seems a bit familiar?

We don't know a lot of Ed&Izzy's backstory (apart from: it's a long one!), but I think it's (almost) canon that it is Izzy's job to make sure Ed is content and safe and, most importantly, to kill for Ed.

And even though their relationship (whatever it was) probably didn't start out as tender and sweet as Ed/Stede, I think they started out much more carefree and happy, possibly excited and adventurous. Until their lifestyle took a toll on both of them - Izzy as Ed's killer and constant protector and Ed as Blackbeard, who Ed started to resent more and more. In the end, all that was left were two broken people in a codependent relationship.

Now it seems like gentle, sweet Stede is slowly turning into Izzy 2.0 - swearing (as far as I remember, Stede almost never said fuck in S1), becoming a "real pirate", and worst of all, killing for Ed even though Ed almost begged him not to (seems familiar?).

Plus, this is happening when Ed, still freshly traumatized from his stint as pirate extreme wants nothing to do with violence in general and piracy specifically. Least of all he wants Stede damaged (or izzyfied).

Stede seemed like a way out of pirating, a chance for a loving, fulfilling relationship. Maybe even a way out of his relationship with Izzy, who I think Ed (subconsciously?) blames for the destructive path his life had taken.

Now he isn't so sure anymore if Stede actually wants this.

Talk it through...

...eventually, maybe. Hopefully.

Of course, not every obstacle Ed has to face, every step on the road to self-love and happiness is about Izzy. Vice versa, Izzy is much more than his relationship with Ed, and he has his own problems independent from him.

But this "marriage" with Izzy was Ed’s longest and most important relationship, and also the last relationship before Stede. The way their relationship became restrictive, damaging and unescapable in the end was both their faults. It'd be quite natural if Ed was a bit cautious with that kind of history. Am I a person who always ends up like this? How did we fuck up this badly? Is there a way out?

Most importantly though, a lot of Ed’s guilt and self-doubt is wrapped up in Izzy - if you're capable of doing that (and that, and that) to the person you love - what else are you capable of?

In conclusion, Ed and Izzy need real closure, one way or the other. Before that happens, Ed won't be happy on any way he chooses, and certainly not in his relationship with Stede.

At the moment, they're not talking, really. It's incredibly sweet though, the way they make these little concessions towards the other (Izzy doing much more than Ed, as per usual). They're almost shy, asking for advice, giving reassurance and understanding, and sharing bottles, smiles and looks.

Will they get a long heart-to-heart in the finale? Of course not, there's not enough time. I think we might get a symbolic moment though.

Ed already knows Izzy loves him. Izzy really doesn't know (on top of everything else, poor kid). The only thing he got from Ed was the "Sorry 'bout your leg", even the latch got a bit more.

Izzy needs to hear that too. "It's not your fault you're broken. You didn't break you. Just trying to do your job, weren't you?"

(btw, I love that Ed is softly blowing onto the latch here, while Izzy is doing the same to his little shark <3)

It's also possible Izzy will get his "I loved you, best I could" in person. Hopefully not exactly in those words. But, for both of them, this will be a start to open proper communication (which might happen offscreen between seasons).

And when we get S3, Ed will be (more) prepared to embark on his journey to happiness, with or without Izzy by his side.

So apparently well known stalkers were at the press night - which would explain why DT and GT didn’t show up and MS quickly left too. Whether that was the reason they didn’t show up I obviously can’t confirm but it sounds like a decent excuse if it’s true. There had to be a decent reason because David wouldn’t be showing his love on the opening night and on the press night if they didn’t show up because they didn’t care or whatever - I mean I’m sure even haters wouldn’t think that lmao. Or maybe it was something simple like sickness in family or he was doing something for work. Don’t know. Wouldn’t worry about it tbf.

I have a feeling that the day David took a selfie in front of the poster at the theatre, he went to see the final rehearsal before the big night. We know he was there for Michael which was sweet. Somehow more than going to the press night if I’m honest…

He will probably officially see it on another day.

I think it’s projecting and being so deep in their made up fantasy that they actually rejected the actual canon and made up their own and they believe it’s the true one. I have never ever been in a fandom that completely disregarded the canon. It’s like the fandom had a collective lobotomy.

I don’t want to be part of it. It was awesome at the beginning when people were normal but now it just upsets me. I hate seeing Crowley being reduced to nothing by this fandom because they have a need to make Aziraphale something he’s never shown to be. Plus I don’t think that majority of people are even aware how normal healthy relationships look like anymore. Both characters have been made the opposite of what they have shown to be over two seasons and on top of it made the extreme. It is just so striking because I’ve never ever witnessed before someone completely ignoring everything about characters and obsessing over 1 second scene and basing the whole personality of a character on it. What the fuck happened. Especially since the characters are so bloody good the way they are but the fandom just shat on it all.

The objectification and extreme sexualisation obsession is giving me creeps too. Especially with taking a character like Crowley who’s shown to escaping psychopaths who control people yet forcing him into a fucked up relationship, objectifying him, and reducing to nothing, making him brainless and dependant, and saying he’d love that. And making a fuck up out of Aziraphale too who’d love to do that to him and have a need to be a creep like that. Seriously fuck off. Nothing gave me bigger creeps in this fandom. How do people miss the point of the show so badly is beyond me. How do people see a character and make him the absolute opposite of what he’s shown to be is beyond me too.

I can’t rewatch the show at the moment because I watch scenes and wince what the fandom did with them. I hope that I disassociated enough that by the time S3 comes I won’t remember the sick theories and I will watch in peace with a clear mind just like I watched S2.

I definitely won’t be here to see what people thought about it to not ruin it for me again 🤣

If NG puts these two in the show, nobody will even notice them apart from fans obsessed with DT’s wife and MS’s female partner. And yes their fans will care more about that than everything else or pretend that online. But the 90% that remains will only care about the story and Michael and David.

It would be a turn off for me too but you know what I’ve been thinking - why worry about it? It’s years away. Maybe we won’t give a crap about GO by then because our lives will completely change, or the show will never actually be finished, or their scenes will be cut out, or they won’t actually be in it, or… there is literally zero point worrying about this, honestly.

I hope that things aren’t as bad as they look because I’d question why dude kept on knocking her up if he’s as unhappy as he likes to show sometimes or with the songs he always chooses for them.

I hope that whenever she’s being humiliating or snarky or tries to put him down, or tries to make his accomplishments about herself, he thinks about being a national treasure with massive accomplishments on his back after having zero privilege, while she was born with privilege and had everything handed on a plate and yet she accomplished nothing apart from scoring a man, by getting pregnant on a one night stand and stalking him, who will need to support her until the end and she’s dependant on that. So what she was rich then when now he’s rich and she’s dependant on his money. His recent inserts about her felt so rehearsed and forced it was borderline sad. If he felt them they’d feel genuine so I think he knows what the truth is.

Her attitude only highlights her insecurity. Insecure and unhappy people bring others down instead of being happy for them. To have so much privilege and do nothing with it, yet try to put down the person who started as normal people do and accomplished so much through his hard work… girl please. Don’t be lame.

I hope he thinks of Michael Sheen who can’t wait to go on the radio to say how amazing he was and how good he looked in a kilt, who records himself going off about how hot David is and what a fantastic actor he is, and how he sometimes forgets his lines because he’s so lost in his performance, how he is his favourite actor, how he loves him and adores him and it’s so clear even just on his face. How he doesn’t shut up about David and needs barely a prompt to go off about his love for him. Who puts him on pedestal and shows him off and especially when it’s his big day. And seeing DT’s confidence skyrocketing… yeah I think he’s noticing and it’s working. And MS is someone on his level who understands the work DT does so his words have a bit more importance behind them…

I think everything you read online or anywhere really, you need to take it with a grain of salt and it applies to this article too.

Generally people didn’t scream “bullshit” at this article because GT herself admitted to stalking DT until he gave him and it’s not a secret that she got knocked up on a one night stand and they got married because of that.

There were many rumours regarding their open marriage and her trying to obsessively control media and succeeding a lot. If you care to dig it’s all there.

But conclusion is up to you as always.

BUT I'VE NOTICED THINGS !!! (this is s2 ep4) !! you kind of get an insight of what they all like to do and things they enjoy with these bedroom stills.

he's got a ton of books, rightfully so, I think he and tech would share this bookcase because it would have different manuals, blueprints and miscellaneous mechanical guides. robot guides. that too. i also think rev would be that person who re-reads his childhood books over and over again and not get sick of them ever

LOL oh Roy. I think this is backstory fodder I'm going to switch up differently literally every time I write about it because so many options are truly viable and could be made to work within canon. But if i had to pick one I believe fits with canon "the most," I agree with you.

I especially think you're right about Roy. Before s3 I could've easily believed Roy knew his sexuality, saw no need to ever come out but also didn't shy away from it, and had plenty of one- night stands or short stints with both men & women in past (I think it's pretty canon that he's never had a serious relationship prior to Keeley; I also head canon that Roy was pretty wild and a big partier in his youth). After watching s3 however it's abundantly clear to me that this man is REPRESSED-repressed. Honestly, I think I didn't even realize the full extent until the finale. After Man City I was still like oh, ot3 definitely had sex the night before the match--zero doubt in my mind that happened. Then after i watched the finale i completely recalibrated and was like oh okay so not only did ot3 not have sex, Roy also fully hasn't realized his whole thing with Jamie is that. He's still awaiting his "Oh" fanfiction realization moment that he's fully in love with this man. A man. and well, that's new.

Jamie I think I'm a little more open to anything goes. I'm adamant that he's known since childhood (he definitely knew what he was doing when he hung Roy's poster above his bed, lol), but I also think he put his career above all things and wouldn't have taken the risk, particularly at the times his dad was really in the picture. If he does have experience with men I think it's pretty brief and limited to something that happened as a teenager/at the academy level before he was really playing professionally, or after his breakup with Keeley before coming back to Richmond. I do think he and Keeley talked about it when they were together and acted out a lot of fantasies though. hehe.

so i've been seeing ppl talking about finn wolfhard "love songs" playlist on spotify and how he made it for byler. (he also made a playlist for his character richie so making this wouldn't be out of the blue for him).

i honestly thought it was a stretch at first but after further analysis... it's too perfect to not relate to byler (unless finn wolfhard has a love triangle situation going on himself).

anyways here's my analysis of each song on the playlist! (i'll only be talking about 6/7 because one of the songs is in an east asian language that i do not understand!!)

1. Boys Don't Cry - The Cure

so the first song on the playlist is boys don't cry which has been talked about and analysed multiple times because we see a poster of the song in wills bedroom. and although people say that it's will song, i believe that it relates to mike more! especially in the lyrics:

I would say I'm sorry if I thought that it would change your mind.

But I know that this time I have said too much, been too unkind.

we all know that mike wheeler says stuff he doesn't mean to (evident in the s3+4 byler fight) and he has a hard time apologizing. not only that but we don't really see mike getting emotional! will isn't afraid to cry but mike is. anyways this song has been analyzed lots already so moving on to #2

2. Let Her Go - Mac Demarco

i'm not gonna lie, when i first saw this song i was shocked to the very core because of how much it realtes to the mikewillel love triangle. the first lyrics being:

Tell her that you love her, if you really love her.

But if your heart just ain't sure, let her know.

obviously mike can't tell her that he loves her because he doesn't even know if he truly loves eleven or not. (and when mike did end up telling eleven that he loves her, there is obvious hesitation coming from mike and even el didn't believe him).

Growing by the hour, love just like a flower.

But when the flower dies, you've got to say goodbye and let her go.

hello???? literally the flowers that mike got her in ep2 and then we see the same flowers dead in the last episode. (not to mention this is when el hasn't talked to mike much in a couple days and their relationship is rocky). so is mike finally going to let el go?

3. Lovesong - The Cure

ok this song is absolutely adorable just look at the lyrics:

at the beginning of season 4, we see mike being closed off and definitely not like himself. he was a shitty friend to will at the airport and rink-o-mania because el was by his side. but once el had to leave to regain her powers, we started seeing more of the old mike as he spent time alone with will. i assume that will makes mike feel like he's home again even though they're in a completely different state and he makes him feel young again just how they were in season 2 (especially with the crazy together parallel in ep9).

However far away, I will always love you.

However long I stay, I will always love you.

i mean, come on even when they were in different states, they still loved each other! sure things were rocky the first few days mike came to california but then they went right back to being inspeperable!

4. Africa - Toto

this song has been used before in stranger things specifically in season 1 episode 1 in a stancy scene. and although there are multiple meanings behind this song, the more accurate one to our situation is "This song tells the story of a man who comes to Africa and must make a decision about the girl who comes to see him." in this case, mike comes to california and has to make a decision about el.

Hurry boy, she's waiting there for you.

It's gonna take a lot to drag me away from you.

we all know that el is infatuated with mike and is the first to meet him at the airport and she has clearly been waiting for spring break in order to see him again. as for the second line, mike and el are obviously bonded by trauma which makes it so difficult for the pair to break up. mike will have to go through a lot in order to end things with el in order to be with will.

I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become.

we all know that mike has internal struggles and lashes out at people (especially will) when he didn't mean to.

Gonna take some time to do the things we never had.

and when they both find out that their love is requited, then what!!

5. Inbetween Days - The Cure

this song is about having to choose between two people, and feeling guilty because you don't know which one to choose! basically a love triangle.

And I know I was wrong, when I said it was true.

That it couldn't be me and be her in between without you.

those lyrics are basically this image. i really like this random person's interpretation of the song cause its so accurate: "it's the story of a guy being in now stagnant relationship with a girl but pining for someone from the past that he parted ways with, now he's realizing that the current relationship couldn't work without this someone always getting in the way." it perfectly describes their love triangle.

i also want to add how the singer is talking about apologizing for saying the wrong thing to his current girlfriend (which is very mike wheeler core) but based on what we saw in the last episode, el isn't taking any of mikes shit! (good for her).

6. Lost Weekend - The So So Glos

ok so i actually love this song, i have it in my playlist lol and i never realized how much it applied to byler!! this song is generally about youth and growing up with someone.

You and I, riding high, in a landfill building castles.

castle byers, obviously and i'd like to think that mike and will spent a lot of time in their youth there together!

And we can't speak, cause we're in too deep.

We've grown up eighty-sixed and ended up like this.

clearly mike and will aren't willing to confess their love for each other (and this is sort of on the nose) because they're so deeply in love with one another. also, eighty-sixed is slang for being thrown out or discarded which could relate to mike and will being heavily bullied when they were younger (which is canon). and then they went to each other for comfort and continue to go to each other to this day.

anyways that's all of the analysis i have in me! even if this isn't true, it was still fun to look at the lyrics of these songs and try to figure out how they relate to byler lol (and if it is true then finn wolfhard is one bold man).

Dante is a singer, usually his songs focus on upbeat fun things, or complaining about the music industry.. but sometimes he writes cute little love songs, and each one is typically about Travis.

Similarly, if Travis is relapsing back into his severe anxiety from high school, Dante knows exactly how to calm him down. Usually that involves quiet singing or humming, while holding hands.

Dante also has really bad anxiety, it's less consuming than what Travis experiences but obviously its still bad. Of course, Travis is right there for him as well. Grounding and calming techniques that involve Travis wrapping his wings around Dante, or letting him fidget with the fluffy little demon tail.

Werewolf Dante and Demon Travis, they hold tails instead of hands. Which is partly because Travis needs to fidget with his hands, and partly because Dante would just knock everything over if his tail was let loose....

Now, stuff specifically for s3 -

Travis cannot cook anything more than simple meals, but he has absolutely mastered the art of making pizza rolls taste amazing. Dante can only properly bake, not cook. But somehow when they come together and do it together? They create complex and amazing things, but they can never replicate the recipe again. It's a blessing and a curse.

They do have separate rooms, but they do not sleep separately. The different rooms are simply so they don't overwhelm one room with way too many posters on the walls or dirty clothes on the floor. And so they can rotate between different beds depending on if they're sleeping during the night or going to bed in the middle of the day - because Travis has a room that has way too many windows, and Dante has a room in the back of the house with like one window. Yes, they also did this with the basement in season one.

Alright. So, I wanted to talk about something. Because I find it interesting. Mind you, this is all just my interpretation of these characters and the story. I could be completely wrong or off!

This are the tags that inspired this thought process! I won't be putting the poster on blast but of course none of this is meant to be disrespectful at all! Under the cut, I'll be talking about some spoilers for s4 alongside just generally things to do with Reiner(including mentioned suicide/suicidal ideation) so thats your warning! Keep in mind I have not yet gotten up to date on the manga. This is from my knowledge with anime(current) and manga(roughly Marley/Yeagerist arc, just after Eren is a dick to Armin and Mikasa).

Everyone in aot has their own goals. Some are not known well, like Porco or Levi. There are others like Reiner, Eren, and Erwin that are well known. Erwin wanted to know the truth, completely unfiltered. It was his dream to learn more about, not just titans or the outside world, but the Walls too. About the world and society he grew up in. Erwin was willing to do anything to accomplish that, going against King Fritz, Zachary, and even Levi's wishes. Yes, his actions resulted in a lot of people dying. But as Levi mentions in the Female Titan arc, you can only make a choice and hope that its one with no regrets. Hell, thats what Levi's OVA is about. Erwin isn't selfish. Not anymore than Levi or Eren or, yes, even Marco.

Marco's own goals and dreams aren't as well highlighted as Erwin, so this might dip into moreso me over analyzing his character. Marco says to Shadis that he wants to be an MP to defend the King. Which is an honorable goal and met with ridicule from Shadis(pretty sure he ridiculed all of them though). Yet if we look deeper, consider why Marco wants to give his life to King Fritz. Because he views King Fritz as his king, he's showing loyalty and thinks that King Fritz is extremely important. Just as the society of the Walls tries to impresses upon everyone with that idea. However, his goal can also be seen as "selfish" as much as it can be called "selfless". In aot, it seems, that a major theme is that everyone has different dreams and ideals. Some are similar(Hanji wants to learn about titans, Armin wants to learn about the outside world, Erwin just wants the truth), some aren't(Reiner wants to be the perfect warrior, Marcel wants to protect Porco). To me, Marco wanting to "dedicate his heart" is neither selfless nor selfish but just a dream. His dream, his goal. Its as much for himself as it is for King Fritz and the Walls.

Now, I mentioned Reiner, Eren, Hanji, and Armin but I'm also going to talk about Mikasa. These are some of the most interesting people in the show. Hell, even Jean and Levi. Jean wants to be someone that Marco would be proud of and Levi wants to be able to make choices he won't regret. Those goals, like Marco and Erwin's, can be seen as selfless or selfish. But there are others who's choices change. Jean is one. He starts in s1 as someone who wants to just survive and becomes someone who's living for Marco. Like Mikasa. Her goal is to keep Eren alive but that drastically changes in s4. Where she suffers with having to come to terms with what Eren says/does, I believe thats the whole symbolism over Mikasa not wearing the scarf.

Eren, Armin, and Hanji have one solid goal until the end of s3. Then it changes. Eren's goal was to avenge those lost(but especially Carla) by killing all the titans. He does that. Or well, he indirectly does that. What happens when his goal has been accomplished? What comes next? Well, Eren saw the titans as an enemy, saw other titanshifters as enemies. He makes the jump in logic that his next goal should be killing all his enemies. Why? Because it happens in the future? Not completely. Because he loves his friends. He'll do anything for them. Sasha, Jean, Connie, Armin, and Mikasa are the only people he really has left in the world. They are his family. So, he sees that and knows that Marley is a threat. I believe it started as just wanting Marley gone but possibly saw that Eldians who didn't live in Marley were just as demonized, that the world all saw Paradis as a threat.

Armin's dream prior to s4 is to see the world, learn about that. From the get go, he was always vocal about that. Just like Eren was with killing the titans. Just like how Hanji wanted to learn about the titans. They were all very vocal about those dreams. What happens when he sees the ocean? The icon of everything he dreamt and read about? The very thing that motivated Armin, someone distinctly weak who's real strength laid in his intelligence, to put his life under risk time and time again? He changes, he learns and he grows. Armin still wants to learn like that but uts nit his main motivator anymore. Instead, he wants to live up to what happened in s3. He wants to live up to Erwin's name and prove himself an asset like Erwin had been.

Hanji's goal also changes. They started as someone angry at titans before they begun being curious. Which is what sets Hanji apart from anyone else. Whereas the others have this grim outlook on titans, they had an almost positive one. Hanji wanted to learn about titans. Not out of anything like knowing how to kill them better but rather out of a genuine scientific curiosity. Yet, in s3 they learn everything about titans thanks to Grisha. They don't even seem all that curious about titanshifters in s4 but Hanji is curious about the world. They wanted to reach out and say hi, to introduce Paradis as a potential ally to many countries. I believe at the end of s4 part 2, they have one reason behind their actions. The reason why they seem rather eager to make friends with Magath and Pieck despite how much bad blood there is. Their moral code mixed with them wanting to learn. Hanji has always been a curious soul.

Now, Reiner. Reiner is more interesting. Possibly the most interesting in the entire show. I talked about those who's goals changed once but Reiner? His changes several times. In s1, he wants to be a warrior. He wants to the strong "big brother". This is what leads to his split, his "soldier side" and "warrior side". After the rough start to his mission, losing Marcel, he is seen hugging Annie and Bertholdt. One of those being someone who he knows doesn't like or trust him. After all, how do you trust someone who actively threatened you and your status in a place like Marley? Then in s2 and s3, he just wants to go home. He lost Annie and Marcel, the mission went to shit. Why would Marley send so many of their warriors? Because for the plan to succeed they needed that many. Yet, Marcel and Annie were lost. The manga shows that Marcel's loss had a serious hit on even just breaking into Shiganshina. Reiner then lost Bertholdt and had to fight with himseld internally, grappling with his guilt and PTSD alone. Something that he likely leaned on Bertholdt for support with. Which is why he just wants things to end in s4 part 1. From his perspective, without knowing a thing about what Eren had been up to, he thought it was all over. He wanted to end everything, end his suffering. Reiner only found his intial reason to live in Gabi and Falco. Then in part 2, he actually wants to sacrifice himself so Falco could take his titan like his original plan with motivating Falco was. Yet Reiner couldn't do it. Whats his new goal then? I think its to finally stop Eren, to do anything for the family he has. After all, that was his goal behind becoming a warrior in the first place.

Fuck. Man. This show makes me feel such emotions hdndkdnd

I’m very curious about Luna and Visit Olympus 👀

Ah, Luna, my beloved. This isn't the title, just a reminder to me of what the doc is and I have not written much, if any, of this yet outside of an outline but it lives in my mind rent free.

Basically an AU where Tina and Quinn used to live near each other when they were kids (so when Quinn was Lucy, hence Luna as their ship name!) But Tina moved out of her foster house when she was adopted by the Cohen-Changs, changing her last name and moving to Lima. Lucy was devastated about this, because Tina was the only person she had who saw her as herself, not as this perfect little princess her parents wanted her to be. After Tina left is when the bullying started tenfold for Lucy, and then the bullying is what turned her into Quinn.

The fabrays then move into the district for McKinley and Quinn starts afresh during freshman year.

During the time apart, however, Tina has also changed, adopting her punk/goth/emo aesthetic, so the two girls don't recognise each other at all and canon continues as usual until Quinn is outed as Lucy in Born This Way. (though they do seem weirdly drawn to each other during S1 and 2, though neither understand why)

By this point, however, Tina and Quinn are Not Close, so Tina doesn't know how to bring it up to Quinn and keeps her own identity a secret (though Mike does find out about Tina's childhood with Lucy and is a Good Boyfriend/Bestie about it)

That is until S3 and Skank!Quinn. Quinn is now hanging out with the Alt crowd, and Tina knows in her heart that this is Quinn just wanting to feel seen, but also these are girls that Tina hung out with during freshman year and knows they're trouble. She's the one to go to Quinn in episode 1 instead of Rachel. Tina recognises that Quinn needs help learning who she is, and realises she is still the only person who knows who Quinn is at her core.

That's kind of all I have so far plot wise, except I know it's a Luna (Quinntina) endgame, with a supportive Mike and like a bunch of queer awakening especially on Quinn's side. The quintessential childhood friends to lovers pipeline. Oh also each others first kiss at like 10 or whatever. Oh also Mike is so supportive because he's also in love with his childhood best friend - who is of course Matt.

Okay so Visit Olympus is actually just my current cross stitch WIP - a Percy Jackson inspired one because I have gotten obsessed and I need things to replace my Harry Potter shit and there is like nothing on the market (come on Disney give us good merch, I need a Cabin 6 shirt please and thank you)

basically its one of those vintage looking travel posters of the empire state building at sunset with "Visit Olympus - home of the gods" next to it- here's my planning for it, it took me way too long especially as I'm using a pattern from the internet for most of it. Loving your theories! And the charts! So delicious! Forgive me, I obviously haven’t done as in-depth of a rewatch as you, but I’m not completely sold yet on ALL the kids within a family having the maternally inherited powers. I’m here for Max, Will & Joyce, and Holly & Karen for sure. Thank you for reminding me how baffled I was that Karen got a s4 poster. 😂 I hope you’re right, but it still seems just as possible that the power inheritance is so irregular that only one kid could get ‘em.

I do think that Will could sense the empty glowy space where the light bulb was via “true sight” or because of your theory about Joyce and the two-way electricity street. I just want to see a demonstration of Jonathan having powers because, although he does get drooled on by the s1 demogorgon, it sure seems like he’s going to get mauled. A hungry demogorgon could have come for Joyce and stayed/was lured by three regular-blood-bleeding teens for a convenience triple-yoink. The light show at the Wheelers could’ve been for just Karen and Holly. And it seemed like the possessed-flayed in s3 just wanted to normal-kill Nancy and Jonathan and have them regular-dead/absorbed. The s3 flesh monster at the hospital also drooled on Nancy, but it’s such a horror/sci-fi trope at this point. I also think the Lite Brite would’ve worked for any of the four older teens, not just Nancy. I just hope we see unquestionable demonstrations of Jonathan, Nancy and Mike powers, because one can even argue that both Victor and Alice were normies. Buuuuut if Nancy DOES have powers, and Vecna was using her as a messenger, was he inadvertently charging her with fear and guilt and anger as well with the taunting and visions of Barb? Not even half a charge because Nancy didn’t levitate, but if we see evidence of a little jolt in s5 I will squeal! Also, because Nancy survived a connection with Henry, wouldn’t she have the same spidey sense like Will (and Max)?

I wonder if people can age out of latent powers unless they’re given training at a very young age, and if they stay untapped into adulthood, maybe the most they can do is cause occasional electrical weirdness. Anyway, teens really are a perfect intersection of the most potential and the most vulnerable, and therefore the perfect target for Vecna to surge and consume.

During the glimpse of Vecna’s Cerebro, the audience is kind of led to assume he’s able to make a connection with anyone he wants and chooses to prey upon people with significant emotional damage. But now you’ve got me thinking that maybe the people shown are also just the portion of Hawkins that has latent powers.

Yeah definitely could be that not every kid in a family actually inherits it, or could get equally strong if they all tried to develop it. Just that they have a higher likelihood genetically than the average person if that makes sense, or at least Henry thinks they do? like I can't think of anything distinctly powersy that Mike has ever done (although I have yet to do a rewatch with all of this in mind). one thing I actually don't like about my own logic is how common it makes the powers, lol. I was excited about Max and then once I started listing everyone I was like.. hm that's fun but also somehow it isn't, lol. if as many characters have potential as I think they do, I bet they won't all become active, because then it's just kinda.. A Lot.

I am with you about the Nancy-Jon-Steve possibly being a regular blood convenience yoink, it's just Holly, not bleeding and being targeted individually, that makes me look again at all the Wheelers. and if that demogorgon really wanted to kill/eat Jonathan it had more than enough time (compare to the Russian one killing dudes faster than you could blink).

You could very well be right about the meat flayer parts, I'm fairly undecided on all that stuff with regards to what victims have powers. and great question about spidey Nancy? I assume Henry can trance normies and that's how I envisioned Nancy's tbh, like possibly trancing someone isn't the same thing as Making A Connection? Will and Max both definitely having The Connection because he took/meant to take their powers, but he wasn't doing exactly the same thing to Nancy (wasn't trying to take powers, open a gate, or kill her)(I don't think he would even want her powers activated yet if he wasn't also going to kill her, or else that's just another person who could fight him). but hey who knows. she sure doesn't seem to get a spidey sense about the last scene in 4x9.

V interesting idea about aging out and teens being most vulnerable, I bet there is a lot to that, because yeah why choose all teens. I think with the cerebro thing they definitely wanted us to think he could choose any depressed normie, but since I don't think he stands to gain anything from killing normies I bet he has it filtered to just latent powers people.

Haha- talk about pandora’s box. Sure, personally i think the rainbows have multiple meanings -3 meanings to to be exact

1) Rainbows being associated with psychics + Will’s powers plot twist

*We see in the stranger thing novel 'suspicious minds' when overusing powers you may hallucinate rainbows (which are also associated with the void/ monsters in the series) .

Terry: “Spots bloomed behind her eyelids. Every color … as the sunlight turned to rainbows” ( p44-45), “streaks of rainbow appeared (p47)”,“The rainbow stayed with Terry for a long while, but eventually it faded and in its place: darkness. A pit.”(p. 48).

Alice (who sees visions of the future) : “Snarling, snapping monsters,RAINBOW LIGHTS playing in the air around them” (p. 121).

cough Will being in the upsidedown/being chased by “monsters”. And Joyce communicating with Will via “rainbow lights.”

The rainbow room (from s2) also has a rainbow on the door- according to the novel kali drew that rainbow. Similar to Will's rainbow drawing. Kali in the book also creates a rainbow allusion with sunflowers (Terry ref).

Kali: “field of yellow sunflowers grew up around them. A rainbow arcing over the golden tops.” (p. 139). “He noticed she’d drawn up there, a rainbow with her colored pencils. Maybe he’d suggest that for the playroom” (the rainbow room we see in s2) (p. 298)

I also already talked about how Terry saying "breath, sunflower, rainbow " is actually a reference to s1 Will- here (in link including pic of Will and Terry being told to “breath”.

*El in s3 also thinks of papa, her mother , and the rainbow room- cause she sees a cereal box with a rainbow (on it).

Dustin and susie sing a song from the film adaption of the book "never ending story". Which indicates how Will is subconsciously creating the supernatural creatures & people in the series . Before they sing, we also see susie is next to a ‘wizard of oz’ posters & she reads & talks to Dustin about the book "wizard of earthsea'. 2 of the 3 examples have rainbow-related songs (in their film adaptions) & all 3 hint at Will’s powers.

* wizard of earthsea:

It’s about a pre-teen wizard named Ged who has a bowl cut (Will) who casts a powerful spell, but the spell goes awry and instead he releases a shadow creature (by opening a portal between the living & dead- Will is a zombie boy remember?)! The new Archmage, Gensher, describes the shadow as an ancient evil that wishes to possess Ged. But the ‘shadow’ turns out to be a representation of the darkest aspects of his personality. It’ only when he calls the shadow monster by his own name “Ged”(cough mf=will the wise) does the monster stop acting out. The only way to save the world is for ged to then merge with the shadow(and for Ged to accept himself-and “become whole”).This also reminds me of the “Jungian shadow”

* never ending story:

Bastian ( who has a bowl cut- and is from single parent house hold) subconsciously creates a fantasy world being over run by darkness (symbolizing the loss of hope and dreams). One of the characters he creates is Atreyu (El). Atreyu ( was the child deemed the ‘chosen one). “Atreyu is knocked into the sea of possibilities. There he wakes on the shore of abandoned ruins. And Gmorick (mindflayer) then latches his jaws onto Atreyu’s (El’s) leg.”Pretty much what happened to El.”The Empress in the story later tells Atreyu, that despite being told he was the chosen one (he never was). And that it was always Bastian (Will) who was the chosen one-since his imagination created Fantasia (so he’s the only way to stop the darkness from over -running it).”

Will has mental health issues and accidentally writes a “story” about the shadow monster (reflecting his tra*ma). Bastian is depressed (over his parent) and subconsciously creates a story about darkness over-running everything. Like how Hopper describes his depression- like a black hole.

song Dustin & Susie sing:

“Written on the pages is the answer to a never ending story” (cough the books susie referenced - are explaining the answer to what’s causing the mindflayer/upsidedown/the lab...this story )

“DREAM a dream. And what you DREAM will be” ( Will’s imagination making his nightmares come true)

“Rhymes that keep their secrets Will unfold behind the clouds.And there upon a RAINBOW Is the answer to a never ending story.”

(the lyric “rhymes that keep their SECRETS” purposely pans to Will both times the song is sung). Because the ‘SECRET’ is -he’s causing everything. And thus he’s the only way to stop it- or they’ll all be stuck in a never-ending story. The only way to stop it is for Will to face his shadow/the mindflayer (aka the other Will) who is always shown within the STORM CLOUDS . Will needs to create a RAINBOW (out of those storm clouds). Like rainbows that show up AFTER a storm.He’d do this by accepting himself , his tra*ma/mental health relating to his dad, and or his gay identity- then the story will be able to end.Dustin even says “ defeat his RAINBOW of DARKNESS” (and later says a “rainbow is the answer ”(to the story). st book:”The RAINBOW stayed with Terry for a long while, but eventually it faded and in its place: DARKNESS. A pit.”AKA: Will has to face his symbolic darkness and the storm/and than create a rainbow from it- for the story to end...

When Dustin says ‘rainbow of darkness’ he talks about my little pony- where one of their friends became a dragon. in d&d wizards can become dragons &Bastian also summons a dragon with his imagination powers in ‘never ending story’. And Will is associated with dragons: s1he has dragon comic & drawing, s2 Will has dragon poster in his room + watches his friends play dragon game. And again... dungeons & dragons.

Also tw for s.a/parental ab*se (so skip to ‘wizard of oz’ if you prefer ). In the 4th book of wizard of Eathsea (20 years after the original, where ged was the protagonist). The new main protagonist - was r*ped and burned by her father as a child (and in the sequel she became a dragon as a form of empowerment ). which goes with my lonnie theory-sadly.

*wizard of oz:

it’s about a Dorothy creating a mythical world based on people she both likes and dislikes . Dorothy sings in the movie a song about a ‘RAINBOW’ and references ‘DREAMS’ coming true in a mythical land -much like the ‘never ending story’ song (referencing “rainbows”/”dreams” coming to life).

“There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby Somewhere over the RAINBOW, Skies are blue, And the DREAMS that you dare to dream, really do come true...”

We see in s1 Hopper cop-partner calls the lab “emerald city”. Murray in s2 says people “don’t want to look behind the curtain” (to see what’s causing the supernatural -in the film what was literally behind the curtain was a wizard-cough like Will). We also have -lion, tiger, and bear stuffed animals (as a ‘lion, and tigers, and bears-oh my!’ quote )from the film. And David harbor (Hopper) when referencing the s4 rainbow room (quotes the song) and he also quotes a speech from Dorothy-when posting about the cabin the mindflayer destroyed.

2) Rainbow cups (hinting at Lonnie’s return)

We see 2 rainbow cups in the series.

in s2) when Mike & Will are sitting together & saying they’re “crazy together” . This cup next to them says “happy birthday” in rainbow. Later that season- they talk about Will’s birthday-rainbow drawing, Mike&Will meeting & Lonnie leaving. And in s2, we also see in Will’s room a card that says “sorry, I forgot your birthday”(most likely from Lonnie). So both Lonnie & Mike are associated with Will’s bday.

in s3) We see a woman yell “I don’t want her in my house!” (while she sits next to a rainbow cup). reminiscent of Joyce saying to Lonnie “get out of my house”. We also know there are rumors s4 takes place during Will’s birthday & Lonnie’s actor may have been spotted on set. Along with the fact (it’s pretty much confirmed) Mike will be visiting the Byers in s4. However, the woman (next to the rainbow cup) also says “2 visitor only. 2!″

THE 2 VISITORS ARE MIKE &LONNIE (for Will’s b day).

Also, in s3, when El is drinking from cup- she sees a rainbow. And what’s the first word she thinks of? “Papa.”

so rainbow+cup= shitty dads (lonnie & brenner) probably returning

*And of course if that’s the case -Lonnie (the same guy who called Will h*mophobic sl*rs) will not be supportive of Mike & Will’s “friendship”. And will not be nice to Mike (to say the least). Like... imagine Hopper in s3 - but we know he’s not bluffing and the audience won’t have the option to take it as a joke... and yes the s4 movies hint at that...

3) gay symbolism

First we have Mike wheeler. He in s1 has rainbows sheets, rainbow bedroom blinds , and in his basement there’s a heart propelled by a rainbow. This is like how in s3 Mike kisses El and there is a drawing that says "Mike'. And on the drawing is a heart propelled by a rainbow. I already explained how its symbolic of him trying to be straight/fighting his feelings for Will, but wherever he goes a rainbow still follows (even when he tries being romantic with El). He’s trying to hide his “rainbow heart” by dating El- why in s3 (the rainbow-heart in his basement) mysteriously disappeared from his room (but a similar symbol follows Mike even when he kisses El).

Even in s2 when talking about Will (in the AV tech room): Mike is placed in the center of 2 objects : an object with 11 on it & on the right a rainbow apple (this apple is supposed to be an ode to the gay father of computers- but also about the forbidden apple). Hinting at the love triangle of Mike (with El/Will). PLUS, in the ST book ‘worlds turned upsidedown’ they literally show Mike in the AV room- and put the caption “FALLING IN LOVE- with tech” (and placed rainbow flags next to the caption). And of course we have Mike & Will pose next to the rainbow apple- in the AV room.

We also see when Mike and Will says they’re “crazy together” (aka LOVE-as Flo stated) and they’re next to a rainbow cup that says Happy birthday .

And later that season they ref the rainbow ship Will drew for his birthday-which Joyce was "proud" of. And while dancing with a girl (Will according to the script was looking at Mike instead of her) . That girl is wearing a rainbow heart hair pin. This is essentially a parallel to Mike . Will (next to a rainbow heart) is dancing with a girl, but is secretly thinking of Mike. Mike (next to a rainbow heart) is kissing el but secretly thinking of Will (and immediately goes on a movie double date with Will after this). The lyrics of both these scenes indicate they're not happy pretending to be straight. The lyrics for Will are "every smile you fake". And Mike while kissing el is "just a little uncertainty can bring you down" (and during this lyric is when El puts her hands on him-and he removes her hands from him *aka he’s not as confident in the relationship as he pretends to be.

We see in s4 bts that the rainbow heart hair pin (worn by the girl Will dances with) is also worn by nancy while standing next to Robin (who is gay). So being near a ‘rainbow-heart’ is prob a hint a character is gay. Aka robin & Will & Mike.

tumblr user “awhstrangerthings” pointed out the nancy -hair clip detail.

In s1 when troy is calling Will h*mophobic sl*rs (in front of Mike) he wears a rainbow shirt. And max while often critiquing m*leven (in s3) (to Mike) often wears rainbow shirts. I talked about how I thought Troy and max subconsciously remind Mike he isn't straight - so they're associated with the rainbow iconography-post here. Like we see Max with rainbow sheets (like Mike) and than she immediately talks to him on the phone. I mean she could be queer- but I lean to that theory at the moment.

The whole being near rainbows when associating with a queer character makes sense (it’s like a ‘gay-dar”). Similar to Nancy’s hair clip when being near Robin/ that Girl having the same rainbow hair clip when dancing with Will. If we assume this theory than see a pattern with other characters (when speaking about/being near queer coded characters)....

it’s similar to how : When lucas (via subtext) criticizes m*leven- he is also next to a rainbow (in Erica's room). I explained here- why it’s about m*leven.

or when Jonathan says he’s going to hang out with Will (it’s near a rainbow).

This Jonathan moment -Is similar to when Steve ( who has a rainbow bandaid-from the Byers’ house) calls Mike “Nancy” (which is slang for a gay guy)

*another addition: you see in the comments of this post ghostgirlsatin mentioned Dart has a rainbow blanket. But, I noticed a couple of other things.

notice Dustin says "we have to talk- its about my friend ,Will". As Dustin is near rainbow lights and a rainbow bed sheet. Like how

A) rainbows are associated with the supernatural creatures + Will

B) rainbow lights associated with Will

C) rainbows near straight characters when talking about /near queer characters... similar to how Jonathan is near a rainbow when talking about Will

*also can’t tell if that is a ‘rainbow ship’ poster?

We also see Erica has a sunflower & rainbow drawing in her room... at the moment not sure if its just a random easteregg , foreshadowing something supernatural we're not aware of yet? or just for the m*leven diss?

(although given the fact i think some characters were created by Will- and given all the Max &Billy/Will & jonathan parallels ... the rainbow stuff may be a hint Will created them? I mean they even made a Troy comic just to show his dad is a bully.) But, at the moment, i still lean to (some) characters having rainbow iconography because they’re referring to/are near a queer character.

I watched ep 6 of The Book of Boba Fett yesterday and I still have a lot of thoughts about it so I'm just gonna ramble.

At first I wasn't sure how I feel about this ep cause on the one hand I absolutely loved how much Luke content we got it filled me with an unexpected amount of joy and glee, I love that we got to see him train Grogu and him running with Grogu on his back was a great reference to the original films, at the same time I was a little torn on his characterization because I just don't know if Luke Skywalker of all people would really follow and teach this rule of no attachments and make Grogu choose between returning with Din or training in the ways of the Jedi; it seemed kind of OOC to me.

But here's the thing I'm a surface level fan when it comes to Star Wars so I'm not sure if it is OOC or not. So I went looking to see what other fans are saying and gain the perspective of people who are more knowledgeable than me and I saw some really good points being brought up that I hadn't considered the first being what attachment means in the Star Wars franchise. I will reblog some posts that explain this more properly than me but my simplified understanding is: lack of attachment in the Star Wars universe doesn't mean lack of love, or lack of connection and bonds. You can still love, you can still wish to protect those you care about but do so freely, do so unconditionally and selflessly don't grip on to them so tightly that it drives you to madness; part of life and loving someone is that eventually you'll have to let go. I'd argue we saw an example of this in this episode when Din didn't insist on seeing Grogu and giving him his gift, it broke his heart to walk away but he wants what's best for the kid and if seeing him again is going to hinder his path, is going to hurt him in some way then he'll walk away.

Another thing I saw pointed out is the mention in the previous ep of Tarre Vizsla, who was both Mandalorian and Jedi. And then in this episode we see Luke telling Grogu about balance. So, I don't wanna jump the gun and get angry at this show when they're clearly setting something up to be explored in s3 of The Mandalorian- and actually as I'm typing this I am remembering the posters that were released at comi-con, one was Grogu with Luke and the other was him with Din who had the Darksaber and that matches so perfectly with what's being set up in these past two episodes.

And now after reading those points and thinking about it I feel much better about the way that Luke was presented in this ep, and I see the end not as Luke making Grogu choose but giving him the choice to choose his path and letting him know in general that he does have options, that he can choose his own destiny and he doesn't have to be a Jedi if he doesn't want to be while also letting him know what each path entails. Seems a lot more loving when one looks at it that way- although I still don't like how it was worded in the script 😅

The other thing is while I am loving the content these past two episodes have given us cause I love Din, I love Grogu, I love Luke, I also feel bad for some of the fans because I know Boba Fett is an iconic and beloved character, and some were really excited to see him get the spotlight, and that didn't happen. I am greatly enjoying getting The Mandalorian content, it's making me super excited for s3 but I've also been on the other side of the coin. I know what a slap in the face it can be to have a show completely ignore its supposed to be main character, and this show does it in not one but two episodes this one stinging probably even more because even though Boba appears it's only for maybe less than a minute, he doesn't speak, and the show is stolen by Din in the corner. And I get that these shows are supposed to be interlaced or something but this isn't interlacing, connecting storyline this was putting two episodes of The Mandalorian into the series. Which again, I don't mind I've actually really enjoyed it but I do understand some fans anger and dissapointment on the series as a whole.

Thoughts On The Sparrow Academy’s Powers

because oh boy do i have MANY thoughts

Number 1 - Marcus: Marcus is described as ‘charming, chiselled and colossus’, as well as ‘keeping the family together’ and being ‘a natural leader who oozes confidence’. They seem to be leaning pretty hard into the Luther parallel, which suggests he likely has a similar power. In the comics, the sparrows’ number 1 has super strength, just like Luther, so i think Marcus either has that or has some form of super resistance like Luther has also demonstrated.

Number 2 - Ben: Ben is an interesting case because he may just have the same power. However, his character description is decidedly far from umbrella!Ben’s personality, as well as being a fairly good parallel to Diego. I think it would be interesting if he has Diego’s breath-holding power from the comics, as it would be in-keeping with him being number 2, as well as being somewhat fitting when compared to umbrella!Ben’s power.

Number 3 - Fei: Fei is described as ‘seeing the world in a special way’ which is intriguing as fuck. My best guess is she can give people visions, Scarlet Witch-style. This would be a fitting parallel to Allison’s rumours, although it’s overpowered as all hell.

Number 4 - Alphonso: Alphonso is described as ‘bearing his scars from years of crime fighting’, which sounds very Diego-ish tbh. In the comics, one of the sparrows can apparently ‘release blasts from their face’ which makes sense with the scar thing. It would also be a good parallel to Klaus, with them both having powers that would really fuck them up with consistent use. I also think Alphonso might be blind (likely because of this power) but i’ll get back to that.

Number 5 - Sloane: Sloane is described as ‘a romantic and a dreamer’ who is ‘eager to see the world and experience life outside her upbringing’ which says to me that she maybe wants to distance herself from the academy and possibly her power. In the comics, one of the sparrows (’Carla’) can heal injuries in some way, which i think would fit Sloane quite well. I’ve seen some people say Carla specifically can transfer injuries from one person to another, which I personally find really interesting. It would be a nice parallel to five, if she can ‘teleport’ injuries (ok i know its a stretch but just go with it). Also, if her power is quite literally injuring people, it would make sense for her to want to get away from the academy and maybe find a way to help people that doesn’t hurt others.

Number 6 - Jayme: My favourite sparrow! Jayme is described as ‘a loner under a hoodie’, who ‘has a fear-inducing snarl you’ll want to avoid at all costs’. To me, this suggests she has some sort of Medusa-esque power where if someone looks her in the eye they are maybe paralyzed (given the phrase ‘paralyzed with fear’). This would be a nice parallel to Ben, since they would both have powers inspired by mythos. In one of the leaked posters for s3, we see the silhouettes of the sparrows with dots for eyes, and one of them has a red line across their eyes instead, which looks like some sort of mask. This would make sense to be Jayme. This also brings me back to Alphonso; unfortunately i can’t find a source, but i remember reading that he’s Jayme’s ‘only friend’ or something along those lines. If i’m correct about their powers, it would make sense that he would be blind.

Number 7 - Christopher: Since we already know Christopher’s powers (’telekinetic’, and ‘can turn the room freezing cold and induce paralyzing fear’), i’m going to propose another theory: he isn’t one of the 43. He’s said to be ‘of unknown origin’ which suggests his origin is a plot point of some sort; if he was one of the 43, why say that? Furthermore, if i’m correct about the others’ powers, Christopher just seems to have a combination of Fei and Jayme’s. Given what we know about Reginald, i think it’s possible one of the sparrows died before the kids were old enough to fight real crime. Reggie, being the insane person alien he is, maybe tried to replace the dead sparrow (presumably number 7) with a robot of some sort (after all, he did the same with the nannies). Maybe he took dna from some of the others and suspended it ‘psykronium’, creating Christopher. Yeah, this is a bit of a crack theory but i didn’t know what else to put here and it’s in character for Mr. Veggie to do something like this.

BONUS - The Etymology of ‘Psykronium’: I assumed it was a pre-established sci-fi thing but apparently not so i did some digging. ‘Psy’ seems to come from the prefix ‘psych’, which is of greek origin and means ‘mind’. ‘kron’ likely comes from the greek ‘kronos’, meaning ‘time’. and ‘ium’ is a suffiix that comes from latin and generally refers to a metallic element or biological structure. so ‘psykronium’ literally means ‘mind time substance’. do with that what you will.
